I got my grounding on - what I like to call skin-to-skin contact with Mother Earth - on Earth day

Hahah so as a conclusion to this series of fun events:

I was hoping that somehow the partner whose team I'm actually on and whom I work with most often would find out without me having to tell him (I didn't know how to say "Hey, did you hear I'm so great another team wanted to steal me?" without being an asshole) so that he would know I had valuable skills and continue to assign me interesting work.

The week before last several of us were out at lunch together, and the partner brought up that two people in our office would be leaving at the end of the month because they were following the other, aforementioned team to the new firm. I was like "oh no!" at first because I liked those people, though I then realized it would mean the rest of us would get more work, which isn't always a bad thing (I'm at a stage of my career where I still have a strong thirst to prove myself). I also realized that word might get around that I had been almost-but-not-quite propositioned, as well.

It did. I don't know who said what, but the partner I work with came by today and said that he had just heard that the partner from the other team had reached out to me. I said he had mentioned some things to me before he left about how much his team liked my work, but that he knew I had just started a new position and it wasn't the best time to jump into yet another opportunity. And I of course wouldn't have want to start any kind of drama by doing so. (As an aside, I can't imagine the other firm would be too hot on it, either. They would assume I was fickle and disloyal.) And he said he appreciated that I didn't try to leave. He also said that my work has indeed been good.

So overall, I think the situation put me at an advantage because it's now known that multiple people think I do good work and that I had the opportunity to be a jerk and did not pursue it.

remember when the "lean in" book was a huge thing? i never read it but i think i did it anyway lol.

background: i am less than 2 months into my new job but i need the pace to pick up so a) i can prove i'm worth keeping around and b) i don't go stir-crazy.

there's this partner at my office, a middle-aged dude, who knows my coworker who started with me on the same day. the partner was always stopping by his office, right next to mine, to talk to him and ask how he was doing. i wasn't sure this partner knew i existed but i could hear their entire conversations.

last week, he was talking to my coworker again and my coworker was telling him that he was getting bored because all the cases that got dumped on him were about the same type of thing and he also needed more work. the partner said he would try to find him some other work because he had a lot of cases with outstanding tasks. i poked my head out of my office and said i was in the same boat. the partner asked what my med mal experience was. i, being honest, said none and i was looking to learn more. so he said he would find me some summary judgment motions. and got me something big to work on the same day.

then yesterday, i was in the office, and this other partner (also a dude) who normally works in another location happened to be there, and he stopped by and said he knew i was looking for work on summary judgments. he said he would probably have something i could do sometime in the next couple months and asked if there was anything else. i said (honestly) that i still often found myself wondering what to do next and would be happy to help out with anything. so he said he'd find me something and today emailed me with a big task to do for the rest of the week.

sometimes all you have to do is put yourself out there and then take advantage of the opportunities that come your way.

Bold of emma to think that's not exactly what they want to convey.

What's to be gained is we finally get some honesty from this corner of the protest, even if they don't represent everyone. And if they don't maybe we could get some vocal condemnation out of them for this kind of thing.
