Hi! I saw you did Riddler finding out he had a teenage daughter he never knew about and meeting her so can you do it with all the Scarecrow's too? I dunno the limit to how many charachters can be in a post so just take your time and thank you!
Hell ya Jon being a dad!
Scarecrows with a teenage daughter
Tw:death,fear toxin
Arkham
Tumblr media
A man already dealing with quite the past Jonathan crane was of the opinion nothing could surprise him at this point
Oh boy how wrong he was
williamina was the result of a relationship long since dead that he never considered becoming a variable in the future
Mina only being 16 was told repeatedly to avoid any possible contact with her father after the Halloween incident.
Just like her dear old dad,she was quite the rebellious one
Jonathan can’t exactly ignore the resemblance especially the look from the eyes
Turns out with mom mostly being rather on the negligent side Mina needed someone to be there with her during the big years of her life
Jonathan starts finding out he has some rather ingrained parenting instincts
His old teaching habits really come back to him!
Teaching such a young mind his years of well earned knowledge really invigorates his spirit
He certainly doesn’t intend to turn the little prodigy into a lab rat. He’s the master of fear but he’s not a heartless monster
He’s definitely one of those dad’s who sits down and has heart to hearts with his kids over something like tea.
“Come have seat a young one, tell me what clings to your soul.”
He more than anyone knows the kind of someone so young around someone like him needs to be checked on here and there.
She’s definitely going to inherit her father’s more theatrical side let’s be honest with ourselves here.
She’s getting taught every little bit of chemistry he knows, both out of a way to expand his child’s intelligence but also to keep her safe.
Mina helps him when his leg acts up. According to her it’s the least she can do for him
He greatly appreciates it though he’s not always vocal about it
Btas
Tumblr media
Very similar to Arkham Jon btas jon is a man who is surprised by such a thing
He was never a ladies man, his previous partners be dammed but that certainly won’t stop him from being apart of Jenna’s life
Especially when Jenna reaches out actually wanting to meet her old man
15 and yet very clingy of her old man, understandable seeing as she doesn’t exactly have a lot of people to turn to
Is definitely the kinda dad who enacts curfew because he’s so damm worried about where his daughter is
Overprotective as hell
“No jenna I don’t want you on the streets after 8! I may be the master of feet but I know Gotham.”
Helping this girl with her homework constantly.
Doesn’t exactly want her involved with his criminal work directly, last thing he wants her is going to Arkham
Kids don’t belong in a place like that
Edward and jervis easily become her “uncles” Incase something happens to her hold man
Jenna has giggle at one of his master of fear rants
He was grumpy for hours after it
BTAA
Tumblr media
Let’s be completely honest here, this man is the most likely to end up accidentally getting bun in the oven, risk is his territory.
The fact he’s even surprised when Lilith shows up to the office of one dr Jonathan crane is a joke in itself.
He doesn’t initially think she’s telling the truth.
Gets corrected almost immediately when he recognizes her mothers name and really takes a good look at the kid
A little apprehensive about even having a kid around.
His general customers are indeed kids around her age range
Lilith however for good or bad inherited daddy’s charisma and charm
He doesn’t immediately tell her about his……….culinary behaviors
Would probably never forgive himself if something happened to her
That doesn’t mean she doesn’t slowly put together whats going on
“You scare people……with drugs?” “I’m providing a service kiddo! Why I’m basically paying for your college education!”
Girl is gonna get spoiled with the amount of drug money he’s pulling in.
Miss autumn ATTEMPTS to help Jonathan navigate the turmoil that comes with one so young
Extremely “your parent is your best friend” relationship
Movie nights are a weekly tradition
Year one
Tumblr media
He certainly hasn’t had a lot if healthy relationships in his existence
It wasn’t long ago he went on that hunt to find his own father,Vera was just another who had too.
Genuinely a guilt ridden soul when he finds out.
He may not have known about her but that still doesn’t mean he doesn’t feel like a fool
It’s not out of obligation by blood he takes Vera in but more so because he understands what it’s like to be alone at such a young age .
Definitely a relationship based upon slowly warming up to one another
He’s definitely the over protective type always making sure she isn’t bullied
Lord forbid if they’re ever were they’d be dead within an hour of finding out
Absolutely fosters an adoration for reading

Okay Iris' chapters shook my very core I'm not ready for Magnus' chapter. Although I have to say I love that LBAF 1 started with a Magnus chapter that was kind of a disaster and LBAF 3 ended with a Magnus chapter that everything went beautifully (cursed seashell and Marcus finding it aside). I hope you pull something like that with LBAF 5/6/7 (again-cursed seashell and cursed Devlins aside).
Iris fliring with a million years old warlock-taking after her uncle
I feel like Madeleine is too busy to be a good mother to Regine or that she leaves her alone a lot and I'm feeling kind of sorry for her🥺 (still don't know how I should feel about the Bellefleur women so I'm going for neutral for now)
Regine spying feels like something that will bring trouble😬
Okay I don't ever remember a couple in your fanfics getting butterflies for someone else, this Hermes-Iris situation makes me very worried about her and Malik in a sort of they could break up permanently kind of way
Okay reading about Iris thinking she fooled Hermes has me concerned that he's either playing her or getting obsessed with her to a dangerous point
Otherwise though, Iris' instinct gets 10/10 honestly, she suspects Kincaids gay, she believes he has a good soul, she doesn't like Madeleine for how she treats New York, she's the only one worried about Lucifer- she does take after her mother (only one with braincells in her generation's gang)
There are literally so many different plots going on at the same time I have a hard time keeping up , I have no idea how you do it (unless they're all connected👀)
I can see Kyle blaming Victoria for Kincaid being gay and turning on her or both of them turning on Kincaid
The Warlock Council mainly looking Other Max for time traveling kinda calms me because it means that Max isn't to blame, but they probably found him easier because Max leaves breadcrums with the blood selling so he is kinda to blame
Isn't the Other Counsil aware of Other Max time travelling? Don't they sense something wrong with the ley lines? Also, Other Magnus knows about it, does he just accept the danger Max brings to the world?
I have an awful feeling that bot Maxs are going to get punished and David will lose them both (but you'll find a way to get them out of it for the shake of David's and everyone's sanity)
Iris cursing her uncle-irony is real
Predicting the reason Lance will attack is for love, my guess is out of love for David like Max fucks up reality out of love for David (he went to hell for David just like his daddy after all so like father like son)
I feel like if they survive everything, time travel will end with Other Max and current Max won't attempt it
The cousins not connecting hurts😢
Iris knowing the importance of facts and not leaving room for denial, what an icon (even though I feel she's a little in denial about what she feels for Hermes, perhaps she hasn't figured it out yet)
Can we talk about how much did Nicolas Thorn know about the way Max would use warlock math? Because if he knew about the time travel then he knew about the consequences why did he do it?
While I am trying to remain netral about them, Madeleine and Regine being nice to everyone, especially the lbaf gangs thinking it's okay to treat Max and David like shit is pissing me off
TEDDY! Oh I'm so happy we got to see her, (waiting for Mina's daughter), and Teddy wanting to marry Lance, thinking he's the best was so cute! I am ready to bet real money Theia rants about Lance to Teddy because she's the only person she can do it with
Okay Kyle has an unhealthy obsession with Selena
I think Kyle's relationship with Kincaid is already crumbling
Who has that feather oh my godd-my money is on Madeleine, and then she passed it to make Kincaid's sword?
Iris understanding the importance of showing up, again, what an icon
So the warlocks are siding with Lance? Or something extreme like not taking sides? Can't wait to find out
Also an interesting plot is that most of your cahracters like Lance/Kincaid/Max fight for love but I feel like Lucifer's motive is greed so it will ne really interesting to see which motive is stronger and how you choose to explore that.
Iris gave us a lot of fo9d for thought like the boss she is. I didn't expect to like her as much as I did.
On a side note, my tik tok shows me a lot of Ginny and Georgia clips and I kinda got obsessed with Marcus and Ginny and then I went to see all of their scenes together and can I just say, they gave me major Lance/Theia vibes, like there is this scene where Ginny tells Marcus he could call her something cute like baby and he ends up calling her poo? It felt like something very similar could happen with Lance and Theia. I couldn't find a clip but it's season 2 episode 4 if you want to check it out! Okay I'll stop writing now🌷
PS: This also gave me huge Theia and Lance vibes, especially after the scene where they discuss their music tastes, I love Tom and Zendaya🤭
LET'S FUCKING GO.
Omg I didn't even think of that lmao.
This is a very astute observation and very true. Madeleine is the kind of mother Anjali would be if she wasn't married to Rafael (yall know it's true). We'll learn more about Madeleine from her children soon enough!
Or maybe it'll lead to something good! 🤭
I'm just mixing things up, bro.
He's just a guy 😔
She IS the moment.
Everything is always connected ;)
Ughhhhhhh.
This whole situation is messy ngl. Can't wait for it to get messier hehe.
That's a good question, Vicky. That's a very good question.
I mean, I do love me some Max angst sooooo
We love irony in this household.
Maybe leading to Dark David? *gasp*
But Max loves time travelling and is very excited to do it :(
It really does, fam.
It's all new with Hermes (she's known him for a day) so we'll let it slide...for now.
The thing about Nicolas Thorn is that he doesn't always know why he has to do things, but he knows he has to do them (which can be frustrating for him but bebe had time to get used to it). I'm not saying he didn't know what would happen if he taught Max warlock math, but perhaps he thought the pros outweighed the cons?
I'm ready to throw hands at all of them at this point.
omg Theia 100% rants to Teddy. Teddy: I'm going to marry Lance when I grow up. Theia: GURL ME TOO.
I'm glad we're talking about this. It's creepy.
:(
How did you even guess that shnjksnds
She's the only woman I care about bye
you'll find out in the next chappy ahhh
heeeey that's not fair. maybe he is fighting for love too 😔
I've actually watched both seasons (I love Georgia so much. Fuck ginny, that girl is sooo annoying) although yes Marcus does have Lance vibes...
I LOVE TOM AND ZENDAYA TOO. And that clip is sooo blackbane I agree (not Lance being annoying about music the same way Max is about movies lmao except that David gets away with what he wants to watch anyway but poor theia is stuck with lance - but it's fine because she likes that hehe)

I’ll Always Love You
Masterlist
Let It Go | Next
“Mom?” Ryu whimpered the moment he heard your voice, tears coming down his face like an uncontrollable waterfall.
Katsuki stepped to the side knowing this wasn’t his moment, and you kneeled down to meet your son’s eyes in the doorway of his father’s massive home that gave you chills despite only giving it one glance. You smiled gently at Ryu as you caressed his cheek, giving him a moment to let all his emotions out before you comforted him. After all, you were his mother, and whether he really did hate you or not won’t stop you from being the best damn mom there is.
“I’m sorry, mom,” Ryu sobbed with his eyes shut tightly and fist clenched at his sides. “I’m supposed to be a hero like dad and I hurt you. . I was just so mad.” He did his best to explain, and having already been where he was at a much older age, you understood.
“I was wrong for not telling you when there was a chance you could meet him, and one day I’ll tell you why I couldn’t. . but I need you to believe me when I say you aren’t ready yet. You can hate me all you want for now, but just know I’ll always love you no matter how you feel about me, okay?” You smiled, taking your hands off his face so he could wipe it with his sleeve and give you the smile that you had grown accustom to seeing every single day.
“Don’t worry, even if dad is some cool hero, you’ll always be better!”
“Eh?! What did you say, you little-“ You looked up sharply, daring him to call your precious boy out of his name. “Whatever,” he huffed and turned his head like a child.
“Y/N?”
You stood up and looked past Katsuki to his living area where a familiar redhead sat wide eyed looking at you, and you gave him a polite smile. Kirishima was one of those ones who wasn’t persuaded by your dad’s money to befriend you, but he treated you kindly back in the day when you ended up around him through Mina or Katsuki. He looked great now, especially still in his hero costume that exposed his entire torso, and you were glad to see that he was alive and well as a hero.
Kirishima was floored, on the other hand, remembering you being a pretty girl back in high school, but you were a grown woman now. He couldn’t figure out if it was bearing a child that turned you into something fiercely gorgeous, or how well you dressed your body even in casual clothing to make you look like you belonged on the cover of every magazine. It wasn’t hard to see how his friend had become so domesticated in the span of a few days when you looked like that, and the way you talked definitely wasn’t dimming your light.
“Hello Kirishima, or should I call you Mr. Riot?” You joked, and Eiji nearly combusted.
“C-Call me whatever you like,” he stuttered out with a blush spreading across his cheeks.
Katsuki’s blood pressure sky rocketed as he watched you two interact — he didn’t know whether it was because you treated him like an enemy, or the fact that you had hooked his best friend — and he growled before snatching you by the wrist. His touch wasn’t aggressive, which is why you didn’t immediately attack him, but you were still very uncomfortable with contact with him. Still, you would let it slide for the sake of peace now.
“I need to talk to you,” Katsuki said with his red eyes staring deep into your soul like he was trying to predict what you would do. “That freeloader can watch Ryu while we talk, he’s good with kids.” He persuaded you using Ryu’s safety, and after receiving an accepting nod from your son, you nodded in compliance yourself.
He lead you into a room you assumed was his, and you gently pried his fingers off your wrist. “Alright, let’s really talk this time.” You said, mentally preparing yourself for what he had to say.
“I want to apologize”.
“. . What?” You blinked several times in shock at the words that came out of his mouth.
“Don’t look at me like that,” he snapped but composed himself with a sigh. “I’m sorry. . for everything. I didn’t realize how bad you probably had it, and I know you weren’t ready to tell Ryu about me yet. . but I want to be in yo- his life .” Katsuki said, silently cursing himself for letting his apology run off into something that could piss you off.
He was surprised to see that you weren’t giving him that same defensive attitude you had been — to be fair, that was his own fault — looking like you were seriously considering what he was saying. You had to really think about how Katsuki would do in his life, because it wasn’t like he was an everyday civilian like you were. His life was in danger at all times and that danger could easily transfer to your son if the press caught wind. As strong as your boy was, you didn’t want to think about a villain trying to use your baby as leverage.
Neither of you talked about it, but the press already had your face on magazines and online articles after that one restaurant incident and you were completely aware of it. They’d never be able to recover who you were though, as most of that information was buried well enough by your father to keep you from having any connection to him that they’d end up in jail for trying. All the information they could find was about your rehabilitation company that was faceless to the press since you didn’t want them hounding you when you lived in a small and accessible home with Ryu.
“Can you honestly tell me you can keep him safe after those press monkeys attack?” You asked, crossing your arms over your chest and looking at him expectantly.
A malicious smile came on his face, “If anyone even looks at him I’ll blow their asses to Hell!”
“Good. You’ll have to tell me when you have days off to come pick him, and I’ll make a list of things you need to know in case of an emergency. I’ll work on it when I have time at work tomorrow. Anyways, thank you for watching-“
“Wait,” Katsuki cut off your rambling about the changes you’d have to make. “Mina told me what happened with your idiot of a father, so you take care of Ryu on your own?” He questioned and you shrugged in response.
“Yeah, why?”
“. . If you’re having trouble with money you can stay with me so you don’t have to live in that small-“ The realization of where he was going clicked in your head at the mention of your house, and your mouth fell into a small ‘o’ for a moment.
“You think I’m living there because that’s all I can afford,” you said matter-of-factly, but you didn’t feel offended. “Dynamight, I have enough money to live next door to you. . In several different countries. It’s just that I don’t like all this open space with no one but Ryu and me. . . . It feels lonely and unnecessary.” You explained your situation, and his brow furrowed.
“You used to live in a mansion.”
“Exactly,” you responded. “Speaking of your home, I have to leave. Who knows what Ryu could get into when you haven’t child proofed this place,” you laughed lightly to yourself.
Katsuki would never admit it, but he really preferred to hear you laughing over yelling at him.
You walked back into the living room where Kirishima was. . doing push ups with Ryu on his back. The boy sat cross legged on the exposed back of Kiri as he went up and down with a mischevious grin on his face, and Kirishima looked so focused you would think he had just been challenged to a life or death battle. You didn’t know whether you were impressed with your son’s ability to persuade people, or frightened by how much devious intent he could hide behind that cute face.
‘I’ve created a monster,’ you internally laughed nervously.
“Ryu, it’s time to go. Say bye to uncle Kirishima and your dad.” You instructed going to stand by the door with your keys in hand.
“Uncle Kirishima.” You watched as the red haired man collapsed on the floor with tears in his eyes, “that’s so manly!”
‘. . . The fuck is so manly about that? How is he still even friends with a psycho murder machine when he lives by the code of manliness?’ You thought, rubbing your temple gently.
Katsuki walked out just in time for Ryu to jump off Kirishima’s back and wave at them both, “bye uncle Kiri! Bye dad!” He cheered and ran to your side.
“I’ll see you later, kid. Be nice to your mom, alright?” Katsuki said gruffly, but he didn’t meet your curious eyes that stared at him after his last request.
“Hope I’ll see you soon, little man!” Kirishima said after he composed himself, and you nodded at them both in a silent goodbye.
When you left, Kirishima found himself watching as Katsuki as he sat back down on the couch leaning forward with his arms on his legs, staring at his hands with a lost look in his eyes. Kirishima knew that look, it was how he felt when he thought he wasn’t good enough to be a hero; the look you get when the things you care about aren’t there or attainable. Katsuki was so out of it that he hadn’t even though to kick him out yet like he usually did after a short while.
“Bakubro, I don’t know a lot about this , but I can tell you that a man would do whatever it takes to chase his dreams,” Kirishima said as he stood and clapped a hand on his blonde friend’s shoulder. “Don’t let something good get away from you.”

Request for anon: Can you do single dad Kalamiri?
• People think he's daft but honestly? He'd be such a great dad.
• He got married young, made the wrong choice with who he wanted to be with
• they had a kid, a beautiful baby.
• then she decided she didn't want to deal with a pro-hero husband, and she took them and left
• Obviously he was crushed
• Happiest day of his fucking life was seeing them for the first time, holding them was the happiest he ever felt
• that really takes a toll on him, he refuses to speak about it with anyone
• not like he could could through a sentence without crying about it anyway
• a couple months later, she comes back with them, handing them off to him and saying she'll be back
• Only she never is, (years later she signs off her parenting rights- finding some adventure with an older man in another country)
• He's relieved to have you back, he is
• but he's also frustrated with her- how could she do that?
• theyre gonna have to grow up without her and the fact that she never fuckin cared
• but he's determined to give you the best childhood possible
• and he does just that
• it's hard being a pro hero and a single dad but he makes it work
• definitely a group effort omfg
• Sero becomes the godfather
• Kiri, Bakugou become uncles and Mina becomes the auntie
• when Kalamari is on duty, he has one of them babysitting
• his kid grows up particularly close to them
• Denki is one of the most caring and fun parents you will ever meet
• People will joke he's not actually raising the kid- or he wouldn't be the best and he cuts them off fr
• he won't have none of that
• and anyone could see, just by watching the two, that he's phenomenal with them- theyre in the best place possible
• "Just because I'm not verbally abusing my child, doesn't mean I'm not parenting."
• shuts a whole lotta people up
• he learns whatever he needs to
• braiding hair? Yeah no problem
• painting nails? Okay
• Rules about football or some sport so his kid can join? Say less.
• whatever his kid needs, he's on top of it, learning everything he can to help.
• won't give his kid the answers to everything- they'll work TOGETHER to find an answer
• because as much as he wants to give his kid everything- he knows they have to learn to be independent.
• They need to learn team work and critical thinking.
• he is EXTREMELY supportive
• yeah sometimes they do things (especially when they're older) that make him go 'damn stupid as hell' but he always has a conversation with them about why it's not the smartest and tries to understand the reasoning and mindset behind it
• Also teaches them that ultimately it is their responsibility to further their life and/or deal with consequences
• still v supportive tho 😫
• Definitely packed their lunch everyday with a clementine that was already peeled for them
• until their last day of HS
• the clementine was left unpeeled with a lil note
• 'we all got to start sometime kiddo, love you ♡'
• They cried in school that day
• Kaminari loves them with all his heart. That is his pride and joy and not a day goes by when he doesn't thank himself for being young and stupid.
• if the subject of mom every comes up he tells the truth, and reassures them that it was not their fault
• Absolutely HATES lying to them
• refuses to do it unless he absolutely has to
• Bottom line is, Kaminski raises a very well mannered child and they've got the core lessons down.
• He's an amazing parent.

Falling and Rising: Chapter 4 Preview
Of Races and Ruses
And like that, the three girls got started on their pot. It was like clockwork for Ruby. She could recall each step engraved into her memory with ease. She went about her work with almost a flourish, as if she had done it about a million times. Well, in hindsight, that was probably because she had. Mina, as she came up to help following her duty finishing up, took notice of this.
“Ruby, you’re really good at this,” she said, staring at the pot that Ruby had just now added her precious meat cubes to it. “You sure this is your first time roughing it?”
“Yup,” Ruby replied with a nod. “There was never a lot of time to go camping, so…” Especially with their guardians as busy as they were. Closest thing Ruby had ever gotten to camping as a kid was a tent in the backyard.
“So, what? Is this like… you’re just really good at cooking?”
“Yeah, no. I’ve just been making this kind of stuff since I was little, so it’s kinda engraved into my brain at this point.” Ruby grabbed the lid and put it on top of the pot. Now all they had to do was--
“Oh! So you helped your parents in the kitchen?” Mina’s words made Ruby pause.
Her mind flashed back to her early childhood. Her earliest memories, the ones that she could recall the most clearly. Dad was too tired to get out of bed — either because he had worked himself to the bone doing hero work or couldn’t find the strength to get up — and Uncle Qrow not being there, leaving Yang to step up and keeping Ruby distracted by helping her make dinner.
“I guess you could say that,” Ruby said in the end, lying right through her teeth.
It was dark by the time both classes were done cooking, but at least the food was made. It was messy, and not as good as it could've been aside from a few people’s, but it was fine nonetheless. They were practically inhaling their homemade curry with how hungry they were from the day’s training.
Unfortunately, a problem arose when Mandalay let the kids know that they were having nikujaga stew for dinner tomorrow. Again, it sounded pretty easy for the kids to make after working hard all day, so there was no complaining on that front.
There was both beef and pork available for the classes, and each class would only get one. The kids — primarily the boys — started arguing over what to get. The A and B representatives jumped into action to calm things down.
“We had better make up our minds!” said Iida, standing up and glancing over to Class B’s own rep. “Wouldn’t you agree, Kendou?”
Kendou stood up herself. “Sure thing. How about a round of rock-paper-scissors? Winning side it's the first pick?”
Iida nodded, and no one made a move to say anything. “No objections? In that case—”
“Now, now, wait a minute!” Ruby groaned around a mouthful of curry as the second Monoma decided to say something. Why did he have to open his mouth? “A silly game? To decide something so important? No fun. Why not a more worthy battle?”
“What’s wrong with rock-paper-scissors?” Kendou said with a huff, sounding already fed up with whatever was going through Monoma’s head right now.
Monoma snorted. “I expected more from you, Kendou. This is a rare chance to go head-to-head with our mortal enemies in Class A. What a waste to do so with a trifling match of rock-paper-scissors.”
“There are no mortal enemies here.” Everyone agreed to that. The only one who really had any beef with the opposite class was Monoma, and it would stay that way no matter what he did. They also agreed to their reps’ suggestion. Kirishima and Tetsutetsu are at the head of that, having gotten really close since their internship at the same agency and the Sports Festival. Unfortunately, Monoma knew the right way to get what he wanted.
“True nikujaga must feature pork. Everyone knows that. Ah, but if Class A really doesn’t care either way, then we can skip this little showdown and just have our class choose. I can’t abide by beef in my nikujaga, so class B will get pork, okay? Does that sound fair, Bakugo?” Ruby froze in place, another spoonful of curry halfway to her mouth. Oh no. He pushed the Bakugo Button. That’s a button that should never be pushed. She learned that the hard way.
Monoma sneered in Bakugo’s direction and Ruby groaned again. There goes a peaceful dinner after a hard day of training. Bakugo started yelling, insults spewing out of his mouth in the process. That in turn, got Class B riled up, which did the same to some of the boys of Class A. Ruby sighed as the argument escalated. This argument was about meat. Meat. To her, nikujaga would taste the same, either way. It was food, it was good. End of story. This argument was stupid. It was made worse and when Mr. Aizawa refused to do anything about it.
“This is so stupid…” Ruby muttered to herself. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw one of the girls at the table get up, starting to walk over to the chaos. “Hey, Yaoyorozu. Where're you going?”
Yaoyorozu turned, almost startled that someone saw her moving. “I was going to take this chance to warn Kendou and the other girls of class B.” Ruby blinked. What was she talking--?
“Oh right! Mineta.” Yaomomo nodded. The Pussycats had staggered out the bathing times later after the mess that was yesterday. But still, the girls of 1-A felt the need to let the girls of Class B know about Class A’s perverted grape. It ticked Ruby off that he would even try to do that. Was there any way to get him to stop…?
A thought came to Ruby’s mind. She reached back and grabbed her friend’s wrist before she could move away.
“Actually… I have a better idea,” she said as the gears of her mind went to work. “Instead of just warning them, why don't we set a trap to get that little perv to knock it off once and for all?”
And all of the girls agreed with that.
The full chapter will be up on Ao3 on April 24!

Shinsou has a thing for blonds. Had a crush on Monoma and Ojiro
Realizes that monoma was using him for his quirk
First, notice Kaminari around the college campus and found his dumbness amusing and cute as hell
Kaminari is failing in his college courses so Aizawa and Hizashi ask Shinsou to be his tutor
Saves Kaminari from Mineta during a Halloween party
Begins to tutor Kaminari in November
Shinsou is kind of the counselor to midoriya (he has a gay panic moment for Todoroki)
Shinsou runs into Kaminari at a club and is turned on by Denki’s leather pants
The first kiss for ShinKami was during one tutoring session in Kaminari’s room and both were done for the night. Kaminari was showing Shinsou his favorite music sharing headphones.

Chapter Seventeen: At Fault
Tumblr media
Minori's heart raced when Midnight announced the start of the battle, and wasted no time lowering herself to the ground and creating enough distance between her opponent. Although Minori couldn't see her opponent, she came to rely on her hypersensitivity towards the shifts in the molecules around her. Grinding her teeth, she readied herself for Hagakure's attack.
Wasting no time, the invisible girl dashed across the cement ground toward Minori. Prepared, Minori knew what was coming and hastily maneuvered around the oncoming attacks. She could only feel the wishes of air pass by her as her opponent threw consecutive strikes at the reserved girl. No one besides Hagakure knew whether or not she was throwing kicks or fists at the girl. Minori was quite literally fighting the air at the moment.
The attacks stopped, and her eyebrows furrowed, confused why the onslaught of attacks paused and frustrated because she absolutely had no idea how to push someone, who she couldn't even see, out of bounds.
Using the time as an advantage, Hagakure created a blinding light, flashing Minori. Flinching in surprise, Minori clenched her silver-grey eyes shut, her notably long lashes connecting as she raised her arm to cover her eyes. Hagakure surged forward the moment Minori became distracted and knocked her down, sending her tumbling to her knees. The impact had Minori reeling, and she rolled over, clutching her stomach. The pain left Minori stupefied. Leaving no time to recover, the invisible girl sent another attack right against Minori's gut. At this point, the excruciating pain caused her to curl over coughing, staining the ground with the blood that she retched up.
Minori groaned in pain as she was thrown backward, the hand that made its way through her unruly white mane forced her back, grating the back of her arms and hands on the rough cement ground. In her current state, Minori couldn't help but take it. As she tried to regain her footing, Hagakure seized her arms, entrapping her with her weight. Minori's breath labored at the crushing blow to the back of her head as her opponent grasped the sides of her head and roughly smashed it against the ground.
Minori could feel hot thick liquid pooling at the back of her head and dripping down around her. Her large eyes wandered to latch onto a pair of unseeable orbs in her blurry state as she asked: "what are you doing?!" At the corner of her eye, she could see Mina's worried expression from the stands, and the rest of Class 1-A shared the same confused look.
"It's your fault!" Hagakure finally yelled. The hatred in her voice seemingly spelled out her pain with her voice hoarse and rigid, a gathering cloud that foreshadowed storms. The burning anger was one Minori was familiar with, but what had prompted the invisible girl to pull something like this?
This had to be the vilest fight that resulted in the U.A.'s Sports Festival in all of history. There had never been an air quite like this. U.A fights are known for its sportsmanship, not viciousness. At that, Minori let out a low groan as she realized, Hagakure wasn't doing this for the tournament. No, this murderous intent radiating from the invisible girl was unmistakable; she was trying to kill her.
"You murderer!" Hagakure yelled.
Panicking, Minori struggled against the girl that sat atop of her. She shot her right leg out and attempted to wrestle the girl off her, but her agile movements were far too slow. With a little gurgle, Hagakure slapped her foot back down, and with the other hand holding her head tight, she brought Minori's face down sharply onto her bent knee. A metallic taste entered her mouth as blood oozed from her nostrils.
"It's all your fault," Hagakure repeated, tears dropping onto Minori's already grisly appearance. "He's dead because of you!"
Minori coughed at the sudden kick aimed for her side the moment Hagakure had lifted herself off of the girl struggling to breathe. If Minori had been an ordinary student, the match would've ended a long time ago, with the crowd yelling out their protests. Yet the stadium resounded with silence and unease as everyone became piqued with interest at the mention of the death of a loved one.
"My uncle is dead because of you!"
Minori's eyes widened at her statement. Her uncle?
"He was a good man! A civilian who woke up every morning for a better future, and you took that from him!" She screeched, her voice cracking with the tears that Minori knew were falling down her cheeks. "My uncle never did anything to deserve to die the way he did. To have his last breath stolen from him! A breath you stole!" her announcement elicited a gasp from the crowd as they choked back a sob.
Suddenly, everything clicked in Minori's mind. Blame was a common after-effect of the Hecate incident. After the tragic event, Ki Minori had been the only one left in debris and the stench of death. And just like the victims, innocence and life were stolen. From then on, Minori was dubbed as the curse that befell the city of Japan. If those who suffered a loss on November 1st couldn't blame the one who caused it, they go for the next best thing-- the remainder of that day; the fear of a repeat. The one who did nothing to stop it.
Hagakure condemned Minori for the death of her uncle. She didn't blame the invisible girl. After all, here she was, pursuing her dream of becoming a hero while her uncle, who lived for a better future, died because she hadn't done anything to protect him. And although Minori sympathizes with the girl, the thought of being treated as the culprit enraged her.
Hagakure's imperceptible hands raked through Minori's hair again to induce another blow that would prove significant injuries, but she forced herself to roll over, dodging. Despite her injuries, she forced herself onto her feet. Without thinking, Minori conjured the blood that pulled in her mouth and spat in the direction that she hoped was her opponent.
Miraculously, luck seemed to be on Minori's side as Hagakure took a step back at the sticky substance that landed on her skin. Finally, having the upper hand, Minori was able to spot where her opponent stood as she latched her grey orbs onto the blood-red target.
In pure media fashion, every single camera was trained onto Minori's bloodied and battered appearance, emphasizing every bit of tension.
Her silver-grey orbs brewed pure animosity toward her opponent, sparking a fire between them. The cameras zoomed onto the blood that exuded from the back of her head, which matted her white curls, and the smears of red that stained her plump lips from where she had spit earlier.
"I'm," Minori's voice came out as barely higher than a mutter, but was amplified by the t.v. crew's microphones, "not her."
"Liar!" Hagakure insisted, lunging forward. "You caused this! He died because of you! His last breath was stolen from him because of you! You didn't do anything! You let him die; I'll never forgive you for this! Ever!" Minori dodged, shakily jumping out of the way just in time, thankfully due to the blood that stained her opponent, but staggered as she struggled to stand her ground.
"I'm not a liar, and I'm not going to excuse every malefaction she committed, especially due to the loss you've been through. But I'm not just going to stand here and watch as you accuse me of murder!" Minori snapped, clenching her fists, the hairs around her body tingling as she awakened her Quirk. "I'm not her."
Steading her breath, Minori relaxed and perceived the subtle shifts and vibrations in the surrounding air currents. Building up a large amount of energy, Minori began to speak. "I'm not Tatsumaki-- I'm not my mother!" With a powerful whip kick, Minori untwined the molecules around her and conjured a crescent-shaped wave of compressed air at the red-stained girl. Effectively capturing the girl in its midst and swiftly forcing her out of bounds.
The media crew effectively captured every shot of what had happened, including the moment the blue line smudged as Hagakure was pushed off the platform. With the loss of her uncle and loss in her match, it overwhelmed her senses, and Hagakure finally broke down, collapsing and letting out an anguished sob that moved the audience to tears, relating to her very circumstance.
"Out!" Midnight declared, holding up a flag. "Ki Minori is the winner!"
The whole stadium fell silent, the only noise being Hagakure's cries. Minori staggered and fell onto her knees the moment the spectacle ended. Her fists clenched, and she sniffled as she tried to calm her emotions. When Present Mic made the official announcement that Minori would be advancing onto the next round, she forced herself to look up around the stadium. She cast a gaze toward where Class 1-A was seated, her eyes locking onto them; although it had taken a few seconds, they let out a cheer, inviting the rest of the audience to shout their hurrays at Minori's win. She was bruised and stained with blood, but she won.
This was so much more than winning a match. It was like Minori stood on the largest mountain in the world and jumped like a weightless feather. Finally, the demon that constantly plagued her mind for the majority of her life dropped to its impending doom, and she stayed floating above.
Wobbling onto her feet, Minori walked toward the cries of Hagakure. "I'm sorry about your loss," she said, using her Quirk to gently rid the dirty red splotches that she had splattered onto the invisible girl. "But I'm going to become a hero for the victims. To right my wrongs, and never allow anyone to go through the same pain you have." Nodding, Minori stood up, "I'm going to do better," she confessed before limping toward where the medics were standing, knowing her injuries would need treating.

Pale blond hair, keen emerald eyes, and a gentle, honeyed smile cresting on her face, she is the darling of the hero’s world and an angel sent from heaven to tame that unruly father of hers – only a fool with think that – but Eijirou knows her by another name: Kasumi-chan, the monster princess.
People often forget behind that pretty smile of hers is Bakugou Katsuki’s daughter and just like her ornery father, she also needlessly wields a sharp and callous mind that cut down anyone stands in her path. Mercilessly and relentlessly, she’s a hell raiser. It’s in her blood.
“Uncle Eijirou,” she smiles sweetly at him as she approaches, which immediately set off the all alarm bells in his head, “I heard you and Auntie Mina have been trying for a baby.”
“W-what?” Eijirou sputters in his seat. “Where you hear that?!”
“Around.” She gestures vaguely into the distance as though that explain everything. “Now, I have an offer for you: how do you feel about taking in Hanabi? I know he’s not good for much right now since all he does is cry, eat, poop and sleep.” She makes a face. “But I’ve been told that babies outgrow of it eventually and because he came out of Papa, I’m sure he’ll be handsome one day, so you don’t have to worry about him staying ugly for long.”
“W-wait!” Eijirou makes a hacking sound like he’s choking on air as he stares at her incredulously. “A-are you seriously trying to pawn off your new baby brother to me?!”
“Yes!” she chirps up unrepentantly, leaning in close. “I don’t think we need another kid in our household. I’m already perfect.” At that, she puffs up her chest proudly. “Babies are kinda useless, don’t you think? I don’t know why everyone is so fascinated by them when I’m right here.” Her body deflates as her face scrunches up in displeasure. “I just don’t get it!”
Eijirou looks around helplessly for any kind of cavalry coming to his rescue, but the devious brat had zeroed in on him right away when he decided to separate himself from the party for a moment to take a breather. She’s definitely taking no prisoner by the fierce glint of her eyes.
He’s in deep shit this time.
“Kasumi-chan, you know how much everyone and your parents absolutely adore you,” he tries as she preens under his praise, “and Hanabi-chan.” Her face crashes immediately. “Especially to your parents, because you’re both their precious children and they could never choose between you two.”
“Why not,” she snaps, her eyes narrowing with a predatory sheen that keenly reminds him how very much she is Bakugou Katsuki’s ridiculously spoiled daughter. She has been an only child for far too long. “He not only keeps my parents up late at night with insistent crying but they never have enough time to play or pay attention to me! Babies are the literal worst! They’re so gross and annoying, and I just don’t understand why adults go crazy for them!” She rolls her eyes, bristling with contempt. “Just take him back wherever he came from!”
Eijirou’s next words must be chosen with extreme care. “You were like that once too, Kasumi-chan,” he points out.
Kasumi cocks her head, brows furrow, and frowns. A gauntlet of emotions run across her face: confusion, annoyance, and then finally, it settles into disbelief. “Unlikely,” she scoffs. “I was never that irritating. I was the most perfect baby. Grandma Mitsuki always said so.”
“That’s—well,” he starts, thinking of Katsuki’s early years with Kasumi and the anxiety and fear that had bled from him. How even Katsuki, who had bulldozed his way through U.A. and the hero rankings so easily, can be brought down by a babe swaddled in a pink Hello Kitty blanket.
Children can humble even the fiercest of men. Bakugou Katsuki was no exception.
Reluctantly, he acquiesces, “You were a pleasant baby.” She squints at him so he hurriedly corrects himself, “an excellent, wonderful, and most perfect baby.” Which immediately has the effect of lightening her mood up dramatically because someone got to feed that Bakugou’s ego of hers.
“I know,” she agrees amiably, and there’s smugness in those words.
“But,” and this is where he might die, he thinks somberly, “it’s not really Hanabi-chan’s fault he can’t do anything right now. You know he’s young, so he needs a lot of help to do things like you once did. And I’m sorry that you think we’re ignoring you, but he’s just a baby, and he needs so much from us. From you too. You’re his big sister now and he’ll look up to you one day, so won’t try to be kind to him?” Eijirou doesn’t so much go on his knees and beg, but it’s a close thing.
It sounds pretty reasonable to him, a sound defense of Hanabi’s existence while appealing to Kasumi’s powerful sense of pride. Kasumi, for all her the crazy ideas that she get stuck in her head, is logical and thoughtful. Thankfully, that part of her is all Izuku’s. Hopefully, that’ll be something she’ll channel instead.
There’s a beat of silence too heavy between them that makes his skin crawl as Kasumi’s face goes blank and indecipherable. Then, slowly and coldly, she says, “Are you asking me to sacrifice my happiness for that wet diaper rag?”
“No!” he says, aghast. Of course, she took it the wrong way. And, “Is that what your baby brother?!”
She folds her arms across her chest. Impertinence lines her body. “I call it as I see it.”
He sighs long-sufferingly. A thing, he quickly finds, to be extremely common around the Bakugou. They’re all going to drive him to an early grave.
“That is not what I meant at all,” Eijirou tries once more. “Just think of a little brother as an investment. Like a tree. He’s small and, uh,” he cringes, “useless right now, but as you care for him one day, he’ll grow older and will bear you fruit of happiness in return.”
She wrinkles her nose at his attempt at persuasion. “That’s dumb,” she points out, cutting through his nonsense with childish bluntness. “Trees can grow by themselves in the wild even without my help and what can Hanabi even give me when I’m not lacking anything? I’m happy with my life,” she insisters with narrowed eyes. “Hanabi’s existence doesn’t improve my life in any way. I can’t even think of anything that he did to make me happy since he’d arrived here, so I doubt he’ll be able to change my mind about it in the future too.”
Eijirou shakes his head and almost cry into his hands. Her sheer stubbornness is truly profound. “Kasumi-chan, he’s your brother! You can’t just give him away.”
Frowning, she places her hand on her hip as she stares him down and he feels like he’s pinned to her bull eyes. “If you think he’s so great and all that, then why don’t you just keep him. Take him home with you tonight.”
And they’re back to square one again, he thinks hopelessly. He groans out loud.
“Well, do you want Hanabi or not?” she demands, tapping her foot impatiently.
“I would very much like to keep my head intact,” he answers solemnly, because if Katsuki doesn’t kill him first then Izuku’s disappointed frown would.
Kasumi looks heavenward for a second. “Coward,” she mutters lowly under her breath.
But, clearly, not low enough because he heard it all right. “Hey,” he says defensively. He’d tried. Like, a lot given who he is dealing with and for all the years he had known her, barely able to walk on her own two feet, he’d only won a handful of battles against her. It doesn’t speak much of his successes.
“Fine,” she huffs, “there’s plenty of other people at this party. I’m sure I’ll find someone else who can take Hanabi with them when they leave tonight.”
Eijirou’s eyes widen and before he can tell her to stop her crazy plan, because seriously, she runs off to find her next victim. For a horrifying moment, he just sits there and considers either going after her, or—or he can get a drink to erase this entire fiasco from his memory.
Yea, a drink sounds about right about now, he thinks hysterically. There are days when Bakugou Kasumi is a trial as much as she is a blessing to the world. This is one of those days. Let’s leave it to her parents to rein her in. He’d already lost the battle, no need to lose the war too.

Second Chances-Chapter 9
Author’s Note: Ok so this chapter is a bit shorter than normal for me, but I feel like I’ve left it off in an ok place. It was a struggle to write as it didn’t go where I was thinking, but I am ok with where it did go. Feedback welcome please!

Chapter 9: Fallout
They had finally made it back to Atlanta, where they went their separate ways. Willa didn’t want to be seen with Sebastian while looking like a hot mess. She knew her make-up was going to be running soon, due to the heat and didn’t want that image associated with Baz. He had enough to deal with. A girlfriend he abandoned to come rescue her. She didn’t envy him the anger that was waiting for him back at his hotel. She had to deal with an Uncle, who was going to call a hitman and a pig farmer to deal with Tony. She’d always been confused about the pig farmer thing, until he’d told her it was one of the best ways to get rid of a body. Pigs will eat human flesh and bones, leaving only teeth behind. So now it was a running joke, whenever she was upset, did she need him to call a pig farmer and a hitman. It never failed to make her laugh. Something she desperately needed right now.
Sighing Willa pulled out her phone and dialed Susan’s number. She knew Robert would still be on set and Susan would be the only one available to pick her up. Maybe she could get one explanation out of the way and a good breakdown again before she needed to explain it to Robert.
“Hello?” Susan Downey asked as she answered her phone. She didn’t recognize the number. She expected it to be a telemarketer or something like that.
“Hey Aunt Susan.” Willa said as she sat down in the Starbucks next to the airport. “Willa? New number? Why?”
“Long story. Will tell you after you pick me up? I’m at the Atlanta airport.” Willa said as she took a sip of her iced coffee. It was hotter than Satan’s taint today and humid too.  She was inside and her hair was already sticking to her neck. The air conditioning wasn’t doing much to cool the air. Susan sighed and grabbed her purse. Luckily, the kids were eating dinner and the nanny was still around, so she was able to go pick up her niece. “I’ll be there in twenty minutes.”  Susan as she hung up the phone and let the nanny know what was going on. She sent a quick text to Robert as well.
Willa fanned herself as she took another longer sip of her coffee. She knew she’d have to call her parents to let them know what was going on with her and Tony, but she didn’t want to deal with them. They weren’t the most loving family on the planet. They hated Sebastian, no correction they loathed Sebastian. Being an actor, he wasn’t nearly good enough for her. Now Tony they loved, and he wasn’t even successful. Just a waiter while he was trying to get published. Of course, Tony was tall and built like a Greek god. Dark brown hair and brown eyes and a smile to make you melt. Her mother had become a simpering fool for him the minute he smiled at her. Her father had tried to convince Tony to go to law school saying he’d foot the bill for him, but Tony declined politely having said he was just waiting to hear back from several publishers on his book.
Hearing a horn honk, Willa looked up and waved at Susan. She slid on her sunglasses and headed out to the SUV getting into the passenger seat after stowing her suitcases and carry-on in the trunk. Susan merged back into traffic and headed back to the house. She knew something was wrong with Willa, but she couldn’t figure it out. Hopefully, she’d open up about it once they were home. Willa was silent the whole ride home just staring out the window.
Arriving home Willa got out of the car and pulled out her carry-on and suitcases. She headed into the house and up the stairs to her room and flopped on the bed. She needed a shower, but sleep was calling to her. It had been a very long stressful week. Forcing herself to get up she grabbed a change of clothes and headed into the bathroom. She turned on the shower to as hot as she could physically stand it and stripped. She stepped into the shower and hissed as the water burned her skin. She didn’t move, but let the water wash her make-up away and winced as the water hit the bruises, but she didn’t turn her face away.
Sebastian was debating if he should get another room for Margarita after he talked to her. She might just leave and go back home, but he couldn’t be sure. He just knew she was going to be pissed. He took a deep breath as he slid the keycard into the lock and opened the door. Standing in the middle of the room was Margarita. Her hair a wild curly halo, perfect lips pressed tightly together and fire flashing in her brown eyes. “Who’s this friend you just had to drop everything for?” she asked in a dangerously calm voice. She was nearly shaking in rage but hiding it well. She didn’t want to fight with him, but she wasn’t going to be made a fool of.
“She’s an old friend. She just ended a 5-year relationship and it ended badly for her. She called me crying asking me to come get her. Nothing happened. We slept in separate beds, packed her up and came back here.” Sebastian said as he looked at his girlfriend. She wasn’t happy, but she wasn’t’ throwing things at him yet. He might get out of this unscathed.
“Old friend? I seriously doubt that Sebastian. Who is she really?”
“It’s Mina.” Sebastian said as Margo sat down hard on the bed. She knew that name. He talked in his sleep about Mina. She was his first real love. He held a lot of guilt about how they ended. Margo hated her. She was the one spot in their relationship that was keeping him from loving her fully. She’d been out of his life for a decade nearly and he still was besotted with her. Margo had found the box of pictures that Seb had in the closet of him and Mina. She wanted to destroy it, but something in the back of her mind knew better. So, she put it farther back in the closet and piled blankets in front of it. Then she went and tried even harder to be the woman he would love forever.
“I’m sorry Margo. I know I shouldn’t have left without letting you know. What can I do to make it up to you?” he asked desperately wanting to make it up to her. Willa had made it clear they had no future, so he was going to make one with the woman in front of him. A woman he did love, but did he love her enough? He’d been sure he was going to break up with her, but now he was in front of her and she was beautiful, and he did love her. He didn’t want to lose her, so he was going to push all the feelings he still had for Willa away and continue to move forward with Margo.
“I don’t know. I need some time to process this.” Margo said as she turned away from Sebastian. She wanted nothing more than to curl up in his arms and have him tell her it would be alright, but she wasn’t sure it would be, especially if Willa was back in his life in any capacity. “We’ll talk about it tomorrow. What would you like for dinner?” Margo asked as she stood up and headed for the door. She was determined to try and have everything go back to normal at least for tonight.
Willa finally got out of the shower and threw on a tank top and shorts. She was so tired, but she knew she had to face Susan and Robert and let them see what was going on. She had a feeling like she knew how this was going to go and how both would react. Steeling her nerves, she walked into the kitchen and stopped. Susan gasped and the plate she was holding slipped from her fingers and crashed to the ground, shattering. Willa jumped as Robert grabbed her shoulders and looked her in the face. “Tony did this?” he growled. Willa nodded as he let her go and stalked off to his office. Willa stood in shock as the sounds of furniture breaking could be heard. Susan gathered Willa up in her arms and ushered her into the living room and down onto the couch. “What happened?”
Willa leaned on Susan as she told her everything that happened. She told her about dating Sebastian and how it had ended, something they didn’t even know about her. She told her about all of it. Susan held her close and let tears slide down her face. She knew Robert would calm down once he got his anger out. He just needed time to cool off.
“Willabee?” Robert asked as his anger finally dissipated, and he came back out of the office. Willa stiffened and turned to look at him. She wasn’t sure how he was going to react, but what she saw broke her already broken heart. He was crying. He NEVER cried unless a role called for it. He was always the strong one, but now he looked lost and broken. Willa stood up and rushed to him as she threw herself in his arms. Susan stood and gathered both into her arms as they all cried.

Lxvly, this is for you, and I hope you don't mind if I drew from your headcannons for Denki Kaminari as a boyfriend)
Tumblr media
Hungry Eyes: A Denki Kaminari x Shy & Clumsy Female! Reader One Shot
It all started with a dance....
As the daughter of a pro hero, I had to be ready for anything. A villain attack, random people wanting an autograph from my Dad, and my Dad's infamous loud as hell outbursts to name a few. Considering that the Pro Hero I'm talking about is Present Mic, it's actually kind of ironic that his daughter is a silent, shy klutz that has a similar quirk to his. Mine is literally a sonic scream.....
My clumsiness is going to be my death one day. It's why I've never danced at any school dances, preferring to be either sitting on the sidelines, or next to the DJ booth (sometimes in it if my Dad was the DJ). I'd already embarrassed myself several times tripping over anything and everything, no reason to do it with an audience. To be fair, my Dad did try teaching me how to dance..... Hours of sore feet on my Dad's end later and me falling on my rear way too many times, we were both ready to call it quits. Speaking of my Dad....
There's only a handful of people I've ever talked outloud to: My Dad, My Mom, and my Uncle: Shota Aizawa (yeah, Aizawa is my godfather, get over it). Everyone else, I talk to using JSL or writing down what I want to say. I only talk to people I'm not comfortable around when it's an absolute necessity. Why? Allow me to take you back a few months ago....
See, when I first started at U.A., I started dating this guy... You actually know him. Remember Monoma from Class 1-B? Yeah....
Well, everything was going great with him... Until I caught him making out with a different girl. He had the audacity to tell me it was my own fault for not measuring up to his "perfect standards" and told me I'd never be good enough to live up to my Dad's rep as a Pro Hero, that I was a waste of space. I kinda just shut down after that, refusing to talk to my Dad or Uncle Shota for a while, especially since Monoma spread a rumor around school that I was quirkless. That got me bullied a bit until Dad got wind of it.....
Boy, was he mad....
But don't worry! Everything's fine now. The rumors died down about a month ago, though I think that was mainly due to me joining the BakuSquad.... For those who don't know, the BakuSquad is a group of a bunch of loveable goofballs and their explosive pomeranian of a leader: Katsuki Bakugo. Mina was the one who brought me into the group, and thank god, they never pushed me to talk. I mainly just listened to their antics and tried to hold back fits of laughter. It almost felt normal...
Almost....
Since we broke up, Monoma has a bad habit of cornering me at my locker after school to try to get me to go back to dating him. I always tell him no, and he pushes me around until either Kirishima, Bakugo, Sero or Kaminari come looking for me. I think deep down, he's scared half to hell of Kaminari, because the one time Monoma didn't stop when Kaminari told him to... Oh boy, Pikachu Boy went all out on Monoma, shocking him until he made a run for it. It was actually really funny to watch, I won't lie.....
Back to what I was saying: As the kid of a pro hero, you have to be ready for anything. But, that's where fate'll get you good...
When you least expect it, fate can just (excuse my french) bitch slap you out of nowhere. For example.....
"You did what?!" The only reason I was talking to Mina and Jiro at that second was out of shock. We were in my dorm room, so there was no one around to hear me talk anyways outside of Mina and Jirou.
"Mina decided to nominate you and Kaminari for the couple to do the first dance at the Mid-Summer Dance this year for the first years, and you guys won the school's vote." Jirou told me. I let out a humiliated whine and plopped facedown onto my pillow. The Mid Summer Dance was a school wide dance party to have fun in the final days of summer. One couple from each year did the first, second and third slow dances, the first years being the ones to kick off the actual dance. I felt a hand on my back.
"Aww, come on, Y/N, it's not that bad." Mina's voice told me. I sat up faster than Iida can run, and looked at her with a look that told her I thought she was crazy.
"Are you forgetting who you're talking to? The resident klutz of U.A. High, that's who! I'm gonna die, that's it! Game over, no pro hero career for me! Y/N Yamada, dead at 16! Cause of death: Embarrassing tumble in front of the whole school! I'll be lucky if the dress I wear that night doesn't rip or something on the way there." I burried my face in my pillow again. "Besides, I don't know how to dance. I've always avoided the dancefloor at parties or anything like that."
"Why don't you just ask Kaminari to teach you how to dance?" Jirou asked.
"I've never talked in front of him, remember? And I can't ask him, it'd be too embarrassing." I reminded Jirou.
"Fine, if you won't ask Kaminari to teach you how to dance, I'll ask him for you." Mina's words pierced me with more horror than any thriller movie. Believe me, that's saying something because I hate horror movies.
"No, no, no, no, no!" I shouted, jumping up, but Mina was already out of my room, calling for Kaminari. I raced out of my room after her, but by the time I caught up, she was already telling Kaminari. Crap....The second Kaminari locked eyes with me, I bolted back into my room and hid in the closet. Damn it, Mina! I felt heat rise to my face. Great, now I'm blushing.... Just a few minutes later, I heard footsteps. They stopped before I heard voices.
"Jirou, have you seen Y/N?" Kaminari's voice.
"She's hiding in there." Traitor. I heard footsteps walk away. Okay, maybe Kaminari walked away. Maybe he...
"Y/N?" Damn it, he didn't walk away. "Why didn't you tell me you couldn't dance?" I slowly came out of the closet and signed my answer in JSL.
I thought it was obvious. I'm the resident klutz of U.A., so....
"You're scared of falling in front of everyone? You always seem so fearless." Kaminari told me, sitting on my bed. I gave him a You've gotta be kidding me look as I sat down next to him. "I'm serious!"
Looks can be deceiving. I'm scared of everything. I put on a facade during training to make it look like I'm not scared when I actually am.
"You're still such a badass... Anyway, back to the dance. What were you gonna do when the night of the dance came and you still didn't know how to dance?" Kaminari asked me. I shrugged.
I would have figured out something.
"Like what, bailing on the dance all together?" Kaminari asked, raising an eyebrow. I opened my mouth, but quickly closed it. That had been the last resort. "That's what I thought." He stood up and offered his hand to me. "Come on, the dance is a couple weeks away, but we'd better start now if you're gonna be ready." With no other choice, I placed my hand in Kaminari's, a sudden spark flowing from me to him.
And it wasn't from his quirk.
I didn't have time to ponder what the spark even was, because Kaminari pulled me up off my bed and started pulling me to the gym where the dance would be held. I had just enough time to notice how perfectly my hand seemed to fit in his. What's wrong with me?
It was then that the real work began. While keeping up with studying and homework from all my classes (which I had to help Kaminari with most of), and planning the dance with the Dance Committee, I was taking dance lessons with Kaminari. Surprisingly, no matter how much I stepped on his toes, he stayed patient and helped me through it. Everytime I tripped and started falling, he caught me easily. "Now that the worst's happened, you don't have to be scared. I've got you." Kaminari had told me with a wink the first time I had tripped and he had caught me. I have no idea why, but I started blushing like an idiot around him, and kept tripping outside of our dance lessons, worse than my normal clumsiness. If this is what having a crush was, I was falling hard for the human Pikachu.... Literally.
Before I knew it, it was the day before the dance. Kaminari and I danced alone in the gym, and much to my own surprise, I didn't trip. Not once. Kaminari was grinning wider than a Cheshire cat when we finally finished.
"Yes! I knew you could do it, that was awesome!" Kaminari exclaimed with the biggest smile on his face as he pumped both fists in the air. I covered my mouth to keep a laugh in, but it slipped out in a giggle. When I looked up, Denki was looking at me with the most adorable look ever. His head was tilted to one side slightly, and his eyes held this just... Adoring look. "Y'know... Your laugh is adorable." I felt the heat rise to my face as I looked away from him. "I mean it." He made me look at him, giving me a sweet smile. He was so close, one single move from either of us, and we'd be kissing. He cleared his throat after a good long minute, giving me a sheepish smile. "Want to run through it one more time?" He asked me. I nodded and we danced again. I couldn't stop the smile on my face as I danced, feeling happy for the first time in a long time. I noticed that the more I smiled, the more Denki smiled. As we finished the routine perfectly for the second time that day, I felt Denki interlace his fingers with mine, the look on his face serious. He raised one hand, gently cupping the side of my face. My heart started pounding fiercely against my chest. What was going to happen next? "Y/N.... I want to ask you something...." He told me, his eyes and his voice soft. Just as he opened his mouth to continue, my phone rang. I groaned.
"Sorry, I gotta take this." I shrugged before answering my phone.
"Y/N, where are you? We have to do the final preparations for the party!" Mina's voice shrilled at the other end. Iida must have been right there, otherwise she wouldn't have called me about something like this.
"Do I really have to be there?" I asked.
"No, I just need you to answer a couple things over the phone." Mina told me.
"Go for it." I told her, giving Kaminari an apologetic look. He gave me a thumbs up as if silently telling me it was fine. I leaned against the wall behind me as I listened to Mina's questions, answering each one. Everytime I talked, I noticed Denki having that same adoring look on his face. Just as I shifted against the wall a bit, I saw Kaminari start to walk over to me.
"Y/N?" Kaminari called my name, and I noticed he had a determined look on his face."I was wondering... Do you want to go to the dance with me?" I put the phone down for a second, feeling a little confused.
"Yeah, I mean, the BakuSquad's all going together, right? I think Bakugo has us leaving the dorms around 7 or something..." I told him. I heard Mina call my name and put the phone back to my ear. Jeeze, how many more questions did this girl have?
"No, I mean, with me." Denki told me. What was he getting at?
"Yeah, I can swing by your dorm around 6:30." I told him. He did mean arrive there as a group with the squad.... Didn't he? Mina asked me another question before I could think about what he meant. "Yeah, when you're facing the stage it has to go on the left... Right." I shook my head as Mina sounded confused. "No, the left, not the right." I heard Denki mumble something under his breath, something along the lines of,
"Oh man, this is gonna be hard." I suddenly felt his hand on mine as he placed his other arm on the wall next to me. Is he... Doing the kabedon on me? I felt my cheeks turn bright red, as he was really, really close to me now. I was forced to look into his gold eyes, which held a very serious look. "Y/N..." He moved my phone fully from my ear, keeping my closed hand in his. I swear, Mina was intently listening in, because I could hear her suddenly go silent on the other line. "Would you.... Be my date for the Mid-Summer Dance?" A smile crept onto my face, which caused him to chuckle a bit. "And... If you don't absolutely hate me by the end of it... Would you... consider... Maybe, being more than friends?" I smiled up at him brighter. I was getting asked out by my crush! "Maybe?"
"Like... Boyfriend and girlfriend where we can... Hold hands instead of just fist bumping and slugging each other all the time, and... We can text, and I can tell you how great you are, because, Kaminari, you really are great, and I'm the luckiest girl in the world, you're so sweet and adorable, and..." I suddenly felt something warm and soft against my lips, effectively cutting me off. Despite the dark blush on my face, I melted into Denki's kiss. When we finally pulled away, he grinned down at me.
"First of all, you call me Denki. And second, if anyone's the lucky one, it's me, sweetheart." I closed my eyes and blushed darker, if it was humanly possible, as he softly kissed my forehead. I giggled and hugged him, feeling him hug me back. "Well then, milady, until tomorrow night." He grinned goofily as he held my hand in his, bowing and pressing a soft kiss to the back of my hand. With a wink and the most adorable smile, he was gone.
When I got back to the dorms, I was greeted by all the girls, each one having the stupidest smile on their faces as they all sat in the common room. I blushed under their stares and said only two words, knowing Mina had heard what had happened after dance practice and had told all the girls. "Shut up." I told them, causing all of them to burst into a giggle fit.
Right after school the next day, the girls of 1-A practically dragged me to my room to get me ready for the dance. Mina, Momo and Ochaco teamed up on picking the dress while Toru and Jirou teamed up on curing my hair. Once my hair was finished being curled and fully hair sprayed, Toru pinned one side of my hair out of my face with bobby pins before Mina, Asui and Ochaco carefully helped me into the dress they chose: an adorable white, off the shoulder sundress that fell to my knees in length. While Ochaco grabbed a pair of white heels for me to wear, Mina did my makeup for me. I put my heels on myself once Mina was done and grabbed my purse, blushing when I saw that all the girls were admiring their work. "Twirl, Y/N! Twirl for us!" Toru cheered at me. I blushed and twirled. The dress spun before falling back into place, the girls awwing before I spoke up, looking at the time.
"Uh, guys? It's 6:45." My words forced them into action, a unanimous:
"Oh, crap!" Leaving each of the girls as they scampered off to go get ready, realizing they had very little time left to ready themselves because of fawning over every little detail when it came to me. I giggled and looked at my reflection. I didn't look completely like myself, but for the first time in a long time... I felt... Beautiful.
At 7, I left the comfortable confines of my room to join everyone else in the common room. I felt my face turn dark red as the chatter from the boys suddenly stopped, all attention on me.
"Damn, Yamada, you look great." Kirishima spoke up first, a grin on his face.
"Great? Try goregous!" Sero spoke up. All the boys except for Bakugo, Midoriya, Todoroki and Kamin... I mean Denki, started arguing about what word was best to describe me. I snuck a look at Denki. That teasing bastard was wearing black dress pants with really nice black shoes and a tucked in, white button up shirt with the top two buttons undone. He just had to dress like that for tonight... I exchanged glances with Denki, and I swear, there was a shit-eating grin on Kaminari's face as he wrapped his arms around me.
"Man, if I'd known you'd get all cleaned up this good for me, I would have asked you out weeks ago." Denki told me as he looked down at me.
"Blame the girls, they wouldn't let me out of my room until I accepted their wish to do a full on makeover." I blushed darker. "You cleaned up really nice too, by the way." He grinned down at me before pressing a kiss to my forehead.
"Only for my baby... Besides, girls should know you didn't need to put on makeup and style your hair just to impress me, princess. You're beautiful to me no matter what you look like." He whispered in my ear before softly kissing the tip of my nose. I hid my dark red face in his chest as Kaminari spoke up over the guys, cutting off their arguement. "It's all very flattering, but the best word to describe her is simple: Angelic." I could practically feel the cheesy smile he was shooting at me in that second. I looked up at him and opened my mouth to respond, but the girls had joined us just then.
When we got there, Dad was blasting music left and right, doing his DJ thing as always. I laughed a bit as I saw him living up. I had to admit, the decoration committee did an awesome job at turning the big old gym into a dancefloor. I felt Kaminari kiss my cheek and I turned toward him. "Go ahead and say hi to your Dad, I'll grab us some punch." He told me. I smiled and nodded before pulling him down into a quick kiss... Which he turned into 3 sweet little pecks. I giggled and he winked before leaving my side. As I made my way toward the DJ booth, Jirou caught me.
"Y'know, we all knew he had a crush on you. As soon as you guys started doing dance lessons, he suddenly stopped flirting with all the girls and started keeping Mineta in line." She told me.
"Seriously?" I asked. She nodded.
"Yeah, Mina and I knew it was a matter of time before he asked you out. We just weren't expecting it to happen yesterday." She told me. I smiled. "I really am happy for you guys. You especially look extremely happy."
"I haven't smiled like this in a long time, Jirou." I told her honestly. She smiled and we exchanged a hug before I continued walking toward my Dad. He grinned when he saw me and exited the DJ booth for a second to give me a hug.
"You look beautiful, baby bird." Dad told me, tucking a stray curl behind my ear. I smiled up at him.
"Thanks, Dad." I told him.
"You nervous for the dance?"
"A little. But, I've been practicing for the past two weeks, so I think I'll be okay."
"Who is your partner anyway? Everytime I was about to find out, I got pulled away."
"You'll see, Dad." I winked at him before leaving to rejoin Denki. Instead, I ran into the only person who could ruin the night for me.....
"Wow, Y/N, you never dressed like this for me." Monoma crooned at me.
"I never felt comfortable until now, please excuse me." I said as I started to walk away. My heart came to a slamming hault in my chest as Monoma grabbed my wrist, stopping me from going anywhere. "M-Monoma, let me go!" I told him, feeling a panic attack coming on. My anxiety was shooting through the roof....
"You're not going anywhere with him." Monoma hissed at me. "You're mine."
"Not anymore." I yanked my wrist out of his grip, gingerly holding it. "Denki cares about me way more than you ever could care. You don't care about anyone but yourself, and I'd take back dating you if I could." I told him, trying to calm myself down. He growled, roughly grabbing my arm and pushing me into a corner. My breathing got so short, I couldn't breathe.
"Wrong move." He snarled at me. Right before he could touch me, he yelped, a spark of electricity zapping through him. Behind him was Denki, his quirk crackling in his right hand, and boy did he looked pissed.
"Denki." A breath of relief left me as I scampered behind him, feeling his right hand hold mine as Monoma growled angrily, getting back up.
"Nobody puts my baby in a corner." Denki snarled, aiming a bolt of his quirk at the ground near Monoma's feet. That blue eyed, selfish blond screamed like a girl and ran for it, his classmates laughing at him while Kendo scolded him. As soon as Monoma was gone, Denki deactivated his quirk, turned around and wrapped his arms around me protectively. "You okay, babe?" He asked. I nodded.
"I am now." I told him before kissing his cheek. "Thanks for saving me." He grinned down at me and winked just as my Dad announced that it was time to dance. He let go of me and offered his arm.
"Shall we, milady?" He asked. I giggled and took his arm.
"Do you even have to ask?" I questioned in counter. He chuckled before leading me to the dancefloor. Once of the floor, we took our starting positions before the beat of the song started. (A/N: Start listening to Hungry Eyes by Eric Carmen for this part ^.^).
As soon as the beat started, we started to move, our eyes never leaving each other. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see all of Class 1-A gathered around us, watching us as we danced. "Everyone's watching us." I whispered to him.
"They don't matter right now. It's just you and me right now, baby." He whispered back with a grin. I giggled as I had fun, dancing with him. I knew, without a doubt, that my Dad was watching us, and I mentally cringed. Denki wasn't exactly popular with the teachers in a good way..... My thoughts distracted me enough to make me trip over my own feet after the second verse. Thank God for Denki, because he caught me and made it look like he was dipping me, which caused our classmates to cheer. He winked. "Told you I'd catch you." He softly told me. I smiled and we continued to dance, Denki spinning me at certain points and the next dip he did being during the instrumental after the bridge after twirling me again.
We continued dancing until the music started to fade out, stopping in the middle and slowly bringing our conjoined hands down. A roar of applause thundered from the crowd and Denki pulled me into a hug. I did it.... I danced with my boyfriend without getting embarrased! I felt him tense a bit after a second and I turned to see my Dad giving Denki the "I'm watching you" look. I rolled my eyes and pulled Denki into a kiss, feeling him hold me tighter as we kissed.
This night couldn't have been more perfect.....
Epliouge ( A/N: Extra just for fun!)
A couple days after the dance, Monoma tried to corner me again, this time being stupid enough to do it while the BakuSquad was still around me. I heard a snarl leave my boyfriend, but I put my hand out, stopping him from doing anything as I glared at my ex as he fired off insult after insult at me. But, he really crossed the line, pissing me off in the process, when he insulted Denki. Finally having had enough, I slammed my locker shut and faced Monoma with the sharpest glare on my face. If looks could kill.... "Monoma, you are absolutely pathetic. You can say whatever you want about me, but insulting my boyfriend? It's about time you GET A LIFE!" I used my quirk on Monoma, letting out the loud energy I had contained for months on end thanks to him. He flew backwards and hit the wall while Sero, Kirishima, even Bakugo laughed their asses off. Denki smirked as he wrapped his arms around me.
"Told you: You're a badass." Denki told me.
"Come on, guys, let's get the hell out of here." I told my friends, walking out beside my boyfriend.
(A/N: Tada! ^.^ Hope you guys enjoyed!)

Their Hero Academia – Chapter 70: Food for Thought
Presenting the next installment of my on-going, nextgen, MHA fic! Earlier chapters can be found here
“I can’t believe you forgot your laptop, Kenta!” Kimmie said, her arms flailing through the air. Or so Kenta assumed, anyway.  She was wearing a sleeveless tank top, so he could only go by the light motions of her shoulders and the rest of her body language.  Oh, and the fact that she was yelling at him.  Kimmie’s yells were almost always accompanied by arm flailing. Not nearly as precise or regular as Iida arm flailing, of course, but equally dangerous to be around. Especially if she was actually aiming for you.  Of course, given he’d known her just about all his life, he was very good at reading it. He was also really good at staying out of smacking range.
Kenta shrugged, helplessly. Even though Takuma was still on I-Island, since it would be a few days before they felt comfortable letting anyone leave after everything that had gone down, Kimmie had insisted on filming another episode of “Gossip Corner” and had drafted him in as cameraman.  Given that it meant he got to spend time with his girlfriend while she did something that made her happy, he wasn’t about to say no. It had even been worth it putting up with her younger sibling Nao trying to use his own invisibility Quirk (unlike Kimmie, Nao was visible unless he didn’t want to be) to try and sneak in on them. He had, however, forgotten his laptop at home, so they couldn’t edit it at her place.  Dumb mistake, really.
Which is why they were heading back to his home, the apartment near U.A that he lived in with Dad when he wasn’t in school.  Sure, some stuff they updated raw and untouched, but they were also trying to up their production standards after Shoji’s girlfriend had given them some advice on monetizing their content, which meant a lot more work to make sure it was of high quality and not just them randomly filming themselves doing stuff. Kimmie’s segments had always veered in that direction anyway, so it was best to start with her anyway.
Of course, with Hero training only likely to get more intense as the year rolled on, he wondered just how much time and energy they’d have for side projects like that.  Of course, he kind of wondered what exactly he was going to be able to do to improve his Quirk at the training camp coming up.  He wondered a lot lately about what kind of Hero he was going to be and how effective. Sure, he’d gotten praise for quick thinking and level-headedness during the final exam, but that only took him so far.
He shook his head and tried to push his self-doubts down.  “I told you I was sorry about that, Kimmie,” he said.  “But hey, if Dad’s still home, he’ll probably offer to make us lunch, so there’s that.  And you know he’ll probably make some dessert too…”
That, apparently, was all it took to get Kimmie to forgive him.  “Ooooh, your dad makes the best desserts!”  She clapped her hands.  “If there’s chocolate, you’re completely forgiven!”
“What if there’s no chocolate?” Kenta asked, he put his key into the apartment door.
“HOW COULD YOU EVEN SAY SUCH A THING?!”
Kenta just laughed as he opened the door.  He thought he’d been smelling something in the hallway, but as he headed inside, he could already see that Dad was in the kitchen, carefully stirring a pot of curry. He turned when he heard the door opening and for some reason, he looked surprised.
“Oh,” Dad said. “Kenta!  Didn’t expect you home this early.  I thought you were going to work on videos with Kimiko?”
“Forgot my laptop,” he admitted.  “So we thought we’d come here to finish up.”
“Hi, Uncle Rikido!” Kimiko said, stepping inside.
Dad smiled.  “Hey, Kimiko,” he said.  “Almost didn’t see you there.”
Kenta felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand up.  “Dad, you didn’t…”
Dad’s eyes went wide.  “Oh, oh, no, I didn’t mean it like….”  His hands traced fast patterns through the air.
Kimmie just laughed. “It’s okay, Unc.  I know you didn’t meant it.”
Dad breathed a sigh of relief.  “Good.   Well, as long as you’re here, there’s plenty of food.  We were just about to sit down to eat.”
We?  Who was we?  As far as he knew, they hadn’t been expecting company.
“Is someone there, Rikido?” a voice said.  It was one Kenta instantly recognized.  High-pitched and sharp.
“Just the kids,” Dad said. A guilty look passed over his face.
Kenta moved further inside so he could see who was in the living room.
“Aunt Habuko…?”
***
It was unmistakably Aunt Habuko.  There was pretty much no one else on the planet with that same shock of red hair coupled with the head and face of a snake.  Who honestly, wasn’t that surprising a presence in their home.  She was an “Aunt” for a reason, after all, having been one of his mom’s best friends, going back to their Hero-in-training days at Isamu Academy, and still being a family friend now.  She and her daughter, Kayda, were frequent visitors. She’d been one of many people they’d been able to lean on in the days and months after Mom had been killed.
Which did nothing to explain why she was here in the middle of the day, nor why Dad seemed vaguely embarrassed about it all.
Aunt Habuko blinked slowly in surprise.  “Oh,” she said, struggling to regain her composure.  “Hello, Kenta.  And it’s Ojiro, right?”
“Yes, ma’am,” Kimiko replied.
“Hello,” Kenta said. There was a nervous energy in the room now, radiating from both Aunt Habuko and Dad.  Especially from Dad.  He really wasn’t sure what was going on and he was growing increasingly sure he didn’t want to either.  “I didn’t know you were going to be in town,” he added.
Again, an awkward look passed between her and Dad.  He heard Kimiko make a small “Hmm” noise.
“Yes, well…” Aunt Habuko began.  Her tongue flicked in and out a couple of times.  “I had a day off, and Kayda is out with her school friends, so I thought I would drop by.”
That made sense. Maybe he was just reading too much into things.  He didn’t know every detail of Dad’s every day, but he hadn’t seen her in a while. Of course, she’d just drop by for a visit.
“Son,” Dad said, “maybe we should talk, later, when you don’t have a guest?”
Or maybe not.
“I could just go…” Kimmie began.  She wasn’t usually one to shy away from other people’s drama, but this may have just been a little too personal for her.
Kenta held up both of his hands.  “Nope, stay here, Kimiko.”  He turned to look at his Dad.  “You’ve always said we should always be honest with each other, Dad.  Anything you want to say, you can say in front of my girlfriend.”
“Can we at least sit down?” Dad asked.  “The curry needs to simmer for a little anyway.”
He shrugged and headed to one of the couches, taking a seat on the far end of it.    Kimmie sat next to him and he felt a warmth wrap about his hand.  It took him a moment to realize it was hers.  He looked in the direction of where her face would be and gave her a small smile.  She gave his hand a squeeze and he returned it.  Dad and Aunt Habuko took up seats on the opposite couch, sitting next to each other for a moment, before seemingly realizing better of it and moving slightly further apart.
“So,” Dad began, his hands folded in front of him.  He tried to speak again, but only succeeded in opening his mouth and closing abruptly. “Really wish I’d thought more about what I was going to say.  I knew this was coming, but, you had exams coming up and we weren’t sure how you were going to take it.”
Yeah, that kind talk rarely heralded good news.  “Dad,” he said.   He was trying to be understanding here, he really was.  Whatever Dad wanted to talk about it, it was clearly important to him. But Kenta hadn’t seen his dad this uncomfortable talking about something since they’d had the “sex talk” a few years ago.
“Dad,” he repeated. “Just tell me.  Please.”
Dad and Aunt Habuko exchanged another look.  Dad hesitated for a second, but Aunt Habuko nodded.  Dad nodded in return and took in a breath.  He held it for a moment, then let it out.  He reached over and took Aunt Habuko’s hand in his.  Dad was a big man and her hand looked very small in his.
“Habuko and I, we’re dating,” Dad said.  “We have been for a few weeks now.”
***
“You’re… what?” Kenta asked.  He had to have heard that wrong.  Because there was no way he could have possibly heard what he thought he heard. His dad and godmother were not dating. It wasn’t possible.
Kimmie gave his hand another squeeze.  He was honestly surprised she wasn’t squeeing or asking a million questions.  This kind of “shipping” was right up her alley.  He supposed it was nice to learn she had her limits.
“Dating,” Dad repeated. He reddened a little.  “Man, feels good to actually say that.  I really didn’t like keeping this from you.”
“I guess this means we should tell Kayda soon too,” Aunt Habuko added.  “She probably wonders where I’ve been going off and on all this time. We were hoping to only have this conversation once, but…”
“How long has this been going on?” Kenta asked.  They made it sound like it had been going on a while.  A while where they weren’t telling him.  Or Kayda for that matter.  The two of them weren’t super close, but she probably wasn’t going to take it well.
“A few weeks,” Dad said. He rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly.  “A couple weeks before you had final exams.”
Yeah, they’d said that, hadn’t they?  Still, asking the question helped him wind up more mental space.   Early in the school year, Dad had confessed that Aunt Mina had been trying for some time to set him up with her single friends.  And he’d even told Dad that he deserved to be happy and that if it was what he wanted, he should give it a shot.  Dad had even shared the details of a few particularly disastrous dates he’d gone on with some of the women.  He honestly wasn’t sure if Aunt Mina had completely misunderstood who was compatible with Dad or if she was picking horrible match-ups for her own amusement.
It was honestly a fifty-fifty shot.
He hadn’t realized it at the time, but at some point, that had stopped.  And yet whenever he’d talked to Dad, he’d seemed happier than he had in a long time.  Given that Dad worked at U.A. running the cafeteria, they still saw each other all the time, even with him living on campus.  There had been a kind of spring in Dad’s step, he realized now.  He hadn’t known what to think of it at the time; he’d just been happy for him.
Knowing this, though, put a whole different spin on it.
“Okay, better question,” he said.  “How did this happen?”  The two of them were already friends, of course.  But wasn’t that a big jump from friends to dating?  Then again, did he have any room to talk?  He and Kimmie had been friends pretty much all their lives and now the two of them were dating.
“You want to take this one?” Dad asked, looking over at Aunt Habuko.  He also appeared to be trying to send some kind of silent signal, judging by how much his bushy eyebrows were twitching.
“Oooh,” Kimmie said, quietly.  “I love a good meet-cute story!”  Well, she’d obviously reached her limit on keeping herself contained.  She probably thought he couldn’t hear.
Aunt Habuko nodded, closed her eyes, then nodded again.  Her tongue flicked out quickly.  “I might as well start it.  I was having, pardon my language, an amazingly shitty day.  I’d had a big fight with Kayda’s father, not to mention trouble at work, a fight with Kayda… and well, I tried to drown my sorrows.   When that didn’t work, I realized I needed someone to actually talk to, so I called your father.”
Dad picked up the thread. “So I immediately jumped in a cab. By the time I got there, Habuko had already had a couple of drinks.  Only, honestly, I was having a pretty bad day myself.  It was the anniversary of the day me and your mom met.  Just one of those alone feeling days.  I was actually just about to call Habuko, so I could talk to somebody, when she called me”
Kenta lowered his head and closed his eyes.  He understood that feeling.  He’d been so young when they’d lost Mom, sometimes it was a struggle to even remember her clearly.  But what memories he had were dear ones.  And he looked at his friends, with their moms, and couldn’t help but be jealous and feel a little empty sometimes too.  He was glad for all the support he had.  With Takuma and Kimmie, he was rarely alone, but sometimes, even that didn’t much help.
“So we were both drinking, and we were both talking,” Aunt Habuko said.  “We both had a little too much to drink, and this place was closer, so we came back here.  In the morning, after we’d sobered up, we realized how alone we were both feeling and, well…”
Dad went red again, deeply red.  He coughed into his free hand.  “We connected,” he said, rather quickly.  There was something not being said here, Kenta realized.  They weren’t lying per se, but they also weren’t telling the entire story.
Kenta wasn’t the Iida twins or Midoriya, but he wasn’t stupid by any means either.  And he considered himself fairly observant.  He was usually the one to figure out the flaw in whatever plan Tamkuma had come up with, the Superego to Kimmie’s Ego and Takuma’s Id.  Which also meant that he was smart enough to put two and two together here.  Drinks plus dancing around certain topics plus now dating equaled…
Nope.
He was not going to finish that equation.
“So we thought we’d give it a try,” Aunt Habuko went on.  Her facial structure didn’t allow for much smiling, but he could tell by her voice (having an invisible best friend made you real good at listening to tone) and the way her eyes looked that she was.  “And it seems to be working out.”
“So yeah,” Dad said. “I’m sorry we didn’t tell you sooner. Just never seemed like the right time. You always had something going on. Not exactly the way I wanted to do this, but here we are.”
So.  His dad was dating.  Dating Aunt Habuko, who was practically family, and who had been Mom’s best friend.  He was fine with this.  He was. He wanted his dad to be happy. He’d told him as much, months ago. It had been a clichéd, father-son bonding moment and everything.
So he was absolutely fine with this.
He let go of Kimmie’s hand and stood up, abruptly.  “I’m going to my room,” he said distantly. He was already moving by the time he said it.
***
Someone, he’d navigated his way to his bedroom and managed to shut the door behind him.  Kenta stared up at his ceiling, as though it might reveal the secrets of the universe to him.  Or at least make the last fifteen minutes make more sense.  He shouldn’t have been this conflicted.  He knew that.  He wanted his dad to be happy…
A knock on the door broke the silence.
“Go away,” he said flatly.
There was another knock.
He rolled over in the direction of the door.  “I said ‘go away.’”
“Kenta…”  It was Kimmie, he realized.
“Go away, please,” he ammended.  “I just… I just can’t right now, Kimmie.”
“KENTA YOU OPEN THIS DOOR THIS INSTANT!  I WILL KARATE KICK IT DOWN IF I HAVE TO!”
Kenta blinked slowly. Kimmie had one hell of a set of lungs on her and could yell like nobody’s business.  But even she wouldn’t be that loud through the door.  Which could only mean…
“Kimmie,” he groaned, a hand on his face, “are you in my room?”
He watched as Kimmie’s clothes suddenly appeared out of thin air, less than a foot from him.  “How’d you know?” she demanded.
“Lucky guess,” he said, because anything else would have surely led to an arguement.  “What’re you doing in here, Kimmie?”
He felt something hit his shoulder.  Dammit, Kimmie without sleeves was dangerous!
“Because I was worried about you, dummy!  You got up like a zombie!  You didn’t even respond when anybody tried talking to you, so I turned my clothes invisible and followed you so I could sneak in before you shut the door!”
Okay, he was probably going to have to talk to her about boundaries at some point.  Though given her obsession with the details of other people’s relationships, that ship had probably sailed a long time ago.
Sighing, Kenta shifted so he was sitting on his bed.  Kimmie plopped down next to him.  “You okay?” she asked.  “That can’t have been easy.  I mean, it’s a completely adorable story, two broken hearts finding love again with each other…”
“You realize they got drunk, hooked up, and decided that was a good start, right?” Kenta said.  He must have sounded harsher than he meant, because Kimmie seemed to flinch.   “Sorry,” he said.  And then he winced, because he really hadn’t wanted to follow that thought to its logical conclusion.
“Oh,” Kimmie said. “Oh.  Ooooh.  How did I miss that?”
“I wish I had,” he said. He looked down at the floor and sighed. “They’re dating, Kimmie.”
“They are,” she said. He felt a hand on his back.  “I know you told me Aunt Mina was trying to get him to go one some dates…”
He nodded.  “And he did.  I even told him he should let her.  Dad’s the best.  He’s such a great dad.  But now that I’m on my way to being a Hero, he should be able to start living for himself again.  I wanted that.  I wanted him to be happy.  I told him to go on the dates! So why am I freaking out so much over this?”
“Well,” Kimmie began, “he’s your dad, Kenta.  And even if she’s family, she’s not your mom.  That’s got to be hard to see, no matter how much you think you’re ready for it. Even if you gave him the go-ahead, seeing it actually happen has to feel a little bit like he’s replacing your mom.”
He tilted his head a little and looked over at her.  “Since when are you this reasonable?  Or this well-versed in relationships?”  The words spilled out before he could stop them and he felt his face flush. He brought his hands up instinctively to protect his face from her flailing and braced himself for an outburst.
However, no smacking or yelling followed.   “I read all the celebrity gossip mags, remember?” she said.  “People get divorced, remarried, date, widowed, date again, all kinds of stuff all the time.  Sometimes they talk to the kids about how they feel about it.  Not all of them are happy about it.  And even the ones who are say it was an adjustment.”
“Well, if you can’t trust celebrities, who can you trust?” he asked.  He gave her a small grin and this time he did get a slight smack on the shoulder, which got him laughing.  “Thanks, Kimmie, I needed that.”
He pushed off the bed and walked over to his desk.  Some of his stuff was still in his dorm room; it hadn’t been worth it to bring it all back for just summer vacation before it would have to go back again, but he’d brought back the most important stuff.  Among those was a framed photo that he had sitting on his desk.  He picked it up and a bittersweet smile crossed his face.
It was a picture of his family: him, Dad, and Mom.  He couldn’t have been any older than three, but he was riding on his dad’s shoulders, while Mom and Dad grinned for the camera.  In the background, he could make out vague details of a park and a banner reading “Class-A Reunion.”  He didn’t remember the day, but it was still a favorite picture of his.  His younger self had certainly seemed happy.  His fingers traced over his mom’s face.
“She was killed when I was five,” Kenta said.  Kimmie knew that, of course. All the other Class-A kids did.  “I barely have any real memories of her. Most of the ones I do have are fuzzy. And we’ve got plenty of video. But I remember that she loved me and she loved Dad.  But ever since… it’s just been the two of us.”
He closed his eyes tight, fighting back tears.  “I just… I don’t know.  I want him to be happy.  I really do.  But if he’s with Aunt Habuko…”
“He’s still going to be your dad, Kenta,” Kimmie said, getting up off the bed herself.  “And he’s always going to love you.  And he loved her.  That’s really clear. I don’t think anything can change any of that.  Aunt Mina always said that your dad being such a good one was what would make him so attractive to single moms.  Wait, was that too much information?  Sorry.”
He just shook his head at that.  Kimmie and Aunt Mina were very close; it was where she got her love of “shipping.”  And Aunt Mina was definitely a bit… much at times. “It’s fine, Kimmie.”
He heard her let out a breath.  “Okay, good.” There was a brief moment of silence, then, “Do you want to just stay in here?  Because that’s okay.  I can go get some food or…?”
He stole a glance at his room’s door.  In here, it was safe and unchallenging.  He could stay here and not have to worry about anything, whether that was measuring up to the more powerful Quirks of his classmates or the family drama that was now unfolding.  He could even sustain himself for a while on the everyday objects in his room, so food wasn’t an issue.  Having to go to the bathroom eventually would probably prove a problem, but…
Shaking his head again, he set the picture down.  “No,” he said, “I can’t hide in here forever.  Might as well get this over with.”
***
When they came back out, Dad and Aunt Habuko were at the kitchen table, talking and eating.  Both paused when they heard Kenta and Kimmie coming. Dad pushed back from the table and stood up.
“Kenta,” he said, slowly, “son, I’m sorry, we shouldn’t have…”
Kenta held up his hands. “No, don’t apologize.  You really don’t have to…”
“I should at least apologize for keeping this from you,” Dad said.  “We’re always been honest with each other, told each other everything. We’ve always been able to talk.  I was… I was kind of afraid of how you might react.  I never, ever, want anything I do to hurt you.”
Well, Dad was right about that much.  They did have a great relationship.  He’d always felt like he could tell him anything.  “Okay,” he said.  “I’ll take that one.  But I should apologize too.  I shouldn’t have just gotten up and run off like that…”
“It was a lot to drop on you,” Dad said.
“A completely understandable reaction, Kenta,” Autnie Habuko added.  “But it looks like we were right to trust your friend to help talk you down.”
“More like smack some sense into me,” he said.
A smack on the shoulder from Kimmie followed.  “And I’ll do it again, if I have to!”
Now Aunt Habuko pushed back from the table and stood as well.  “Kenta, I want you to know that it’s not my intention to replace your mother. Your father and I, we’re just two lonely people who’ve found a little happiness.”
“We were talking though,” Dad said.  “You’re still my number one priority.   If this is a problem for you, then we’ll break it off.”
It would have been so easy to just say that he couldn’t deal with it. He still wasn’t completely sure that he could.  But he knew that he’d seen his dad happier lately than he had in a long time.  And he also knew that Aunt Habuko had had an awful year, with her now ex-husband cheating on her, a bitter divorce, and a lot of dirty laundry having been aired in public.
Certainly, there was a hole in him that still missed his mom.  His thoughts drifted to her in odd moments of the day, sometimes when he thought about what being a Hero had cost his family.  The way Dad still talked about her, the way his friends parents spoke of her, he knew she had been a truly remarkable woman.  Dad has always said he’d been lucky that a woman like her had fallen for a guy like him.
His dad deserved to be happy.  So did Aunt Habuko.  If even half of what everyone said about his mom was true, then, he realized, she’d have been happy to see the two of the most important people in her life finding some happiness together.
They weren’t hurting anyone. And there was no replacing his mom. His dad would always be his dad. And Aunt Habuko had always been a fixture in his life.
And he was going to be a Hero.  And Heroes did the right thing, the thing that helped people, even if it meant putting themselves at risk of being hurt.  His dad had done so much for him, spend so many years just focusing on raising him up, on making sure he had the best life possible, even without a mom.
All he was being asked to do was be okay with his dad having someone special in his life, someone who made him happy in a way he hadn’t been in more than decade.  He couldn’t possibly be that selfish, could he?
Kenta took a breath to steady himself.  “If you’re happy,” he said, “I’m happy.  I’m not going to pretend I’ve got my head wrapped around this yet, but I’m working on it.”
He looked his dad in the eye.  “We’ve always been honest with each other.  And that’s not going to stop.”
He looked over at Aunt Habuko.  “And it looks like you’re making my dad happy.  So thank you, for that.”  If it had been anyone else, he’d have been tempted to throw out some vague threat about not hurting his dad.  But he wouldn’t do that to her.  She’d been hurt enough herself.  He didn’t have to worry.
“Thank you, son,” Dad said. “Anytime you want to talk… I’m always here to listen.  Nothing’s going to change that.”
“Yes, thank you,” Aunt Habuko said.  Her tongue flicked out a few times.  “I can only hope telling Kayda goes this easily…”
Kenta doubted that. Kayda was a fierce girl, one who could give Kimmie a run for her money when it came to switching moods.  As upset as she’d been when she’d found out her dad had been cheating on her mom, she didn’t have a lot of tolerance for secrets anymore.  There’d probably be a lot of yelling involved when she did find out.   He hoped he wouldn’t be in the room when it went down.
“Still plenty of food,” Dad said.  “You two want to join us?  Cake should be coming out by the time we’re all done.”
“Cake?” Kimmie repeated. “There’s cake!  Is it chocolate?”
Dad just laughed at that. “Of course it is.  I know it’s your favorite, Kimiko.”
“You’re the best, Unc!”
Kenta’s own stomach was rumbling.  Now that he wasn’t wound up with anxiety, he realized how hungry he was.  “Oh yeah,” he said.  “I’m hungry enough to eat a car.”
Dad just rolled his eyes. “This is a kitchen, kid.  Not an autoshop.”  Dad always ribbed him about his Quirk.  It was mean good naturedly, so he wasn’t bothered by it.  Even he knew his Quirk was kind of weird.  Though he really wouldn’t mind a little scrap metal, come to think of it…
They all laughed at that, as he and Kimmie joined them at the table.  And things, things weren’t so bad.

START OF SOMETHING NEW
Tumblr media
“Tavvy, on your left!”
Rafael swivelled off the tree branch, landing gracefully on the floor and quickly wiped off the dust from his coat. They were in the middle of a fight, but his Bapa had taught him that one always had to look their best - especially during a fight.
“Rafe?” his parabatai called out, grabbing another seraph blade from his boot.
Rafael’s fingers pulled on the bowstring by instinct and muscle memory. The arrow slashed through the air and landed on the Shax’s demon’s forehead - or whatever that body part was. It was always so hard to tell with demons.
“Thanks!” Tavvy clasped his shoulder. “Let’s go find the others.”
Rafael nodded and they both ran toward the garden. Mina and his brother had been separated from them during the fight. He hadn’t applied a speed rune, but he didn’t need one when it came to Max.
His dad had taught him everything about what it means to be a good shadowhunter. But the first lesson was simple - always have your family’s back. Always.
They spotted Mina as soon as they made it to the garden. Mina, who was the youngest among them but probably the boldest, was fighting off a Shax all on her own. Rafael noticed another one creeping up behind her. He raised his bow and aimed his shot.
“Not my bestie, you bitch!”
A bolt of blue magic appeared from above and Max landed on the ground, his blue curls falling over his forehead. The Shax turned into goo as Mina skilfully took care of the other one.
“10 points for Ravenclaw for that reference,” Mina high fived Max.
“Nerds,” Tavvy chuckled as the two of them ran up to them.
“Nicely done,” Rafe told the team as he checked Max for any visible wounds.
“Hermano, no!” Max shooed him away. “There is something you both should see.”
Rafe stared at Tavvy, who shrugged and followed the others. They walked into mansion..or what was left of it.
“By the angel. What the hell happened here?” Rafe gasped.
“There were too many Shax demons,” Mina explained. “Max and I had to release a fireball. A big one.”
“Max, Bapa has told you not to do the fireball unless it’s an emergency!” Rafe sighed.
“Excuse me but if battling twenty shax demons doesn’t count as an emergency then I don’t know what does!” Max argued.
“Twenty?” Tavvy echoed. “There were only five!”
“The rest of them turned up after we got separated,” Mina pointed out. “I think they were hiding in the mansion.”
“Do we have any idea who the mansion belongs to?” Rafe asked, already calculating possible damage costs. “Is it a mundane?”
“We don’t know,” Max shrugged. “Can we go now?”
“We can’t!” Rafe said. “You just blew up someone’s mansion. Protocol says we need to do something about it.”
“Protocol is the worst,” Mina and Max mumbled.
“We need back up,” Tavvy looked at him.
“Oh no,” Mina pouted. “Not back up!”
Calling for back up usually meant the mission had gone out of control - and that usually meant no more missions for a while.
“If we call for backup, then they probably won’t let us go on a mission for another three months!” Tavvy grumbled. “Remember what happened in Shanghai?”
“Let’s not,” Max winced. “I think the only reason we got away with it is because of Uncle Jem.”
“Well, we can’t call him here now,” Rafe replied. “He already helped us last time!”
“Then what are we going to do now?” Mina asked. “We need help. But we can’t let the Clave know about this. No offence, guys!”
“None taken,” Max and Rafe said at the same time.
One would think that life would be easier when your dad was the Consul. But that wasn’t the case for Max and Rafe. Their dad was extremely protective of them and would probably take them off field duty for god knows how long.
“Alright, gang!” Max said as they stood in a circle. “We need to find someone who will help us handle this quietly without getting into trouble.”
“We can call Kit,” Mina said. “You know he won’t say a word.”
“But he is in the Moscow institute with Ty,” Tavvy groaned.
“We can call Uncle Jace,” Max beamed. “He is the perfect man for the job.”
“But he is in faerie,” Mina sighed.
“Anyone else borderline concerned that both our options are Herondales?” Rafe inquired.
“We need more Herondales goddamnit!” Max swore. “What are we gonna do now?”
“Well,” Tavvy rubbed his neck. “We are in a helpless situation and need someone to save our asses. Historically, there is only one person we can rely on.”
“Nope,” Rafael said immediately.
“Already texted him,” Max grinned as he put his phone away.
A blue portal appeared in less than a minute and their Bapa stepped out, striding towards them in a hurry.
“Are you all okay?” He started checking them for wounds, even Tavvy and Mina.
“We are fine, Bapa,” Rafe smiled. “But we can’t say the same for the mansion though.”
“Yikes,” his father said eloquently as he took in their surrounding. “Well, it looks like it was badly in need for a renovation anyway.”
“Uncle Magnus,” Tavvy gulped. “Why is the portal still open?”
Rafe turned around immediately to see the portal shimmering behind them.
“Um, about that,” his Bapa fiddled with his rings. “I might have bought some backup.”
“Dios mio!” Rafael gulped.
“It’s not my fault!” Bapa put up his hands. “Max texted 911! I freaked out! Besides, he was right there when you texted me! What was I supposed to do?”
Before any of them could answer, their dad, and the mother effing Consul, stepped out of the portal.
He immediately ran towards them and scanned them with frantic eyes.
“Is everything okay?” He asked. “I was on a call with the Alliance and they can get here-”
“Bapa, we are fine!” Max reassured him. “It’s just…well.”
“Just some collateral damage, darling,” Bapa chuckled.
The Consul looked around at that and gasped. The mansion was still slowly falling apart slowly.
“Paperwork,” their dad whispered, mostly to himself. “So much paperwork.”
“Darling, it’s just a little mess.”
“Little?”
“Alec, it isn’t like we didn’t blow things up and cause a mess back then,” Bapa said - ever the support of mischief.
“I have never blown up anything in my life,” his father said indignantly.
“True,” Bapa shrugged. “But I do recall you making questionable decisions. Remember how you almost ripped apart that vampire because he insulted me?”
“Wasn’t that last week?” Mina chuckled.
“Exactly,” Bapa grinned at her. “They are still learning.”
“Magnus, I get that. But they ca-”
“Dad, I’m sorry,” Max bit his lip.
“It wasn’t his fault,” Mina said quickly. “We were outnumbered. We had to do a fireball.”
“Blueberry, I know fireballs are a cool aesthetic. But I’ve told you that strong magic must be preserved for serious situ-”
“There were twenty Shax demons, Bapa!” Max pointed out. “Mins and I got separated from the others. We couldn’t fight them all off on our own. We didn’t do it for the aesthetic. We needed to do the fireball to survive.”
The Consul, who was listening them intently, rubbed his beard. Rafe had told him to shave it off multiple times, but their Bapa apparently liked it and thus the beard stayed on.
“Twenty Shax demons isn’t normal!” He pointed out. “We need to launch an investigation.”
“Can we do it?” Max asked, already excited at the prospect.
“Max, all of you are too young-”
“We are almost the same age as you were when you battled Valentine,” Rafael pointed out defiantly.
He saw Bapa smile fondly but dad didn’t falter.
“We’ll be careful, sir,” Tavvy said in a way and that reminded Rafe so much of Julian. “We’ve been tracking the demons since last month. We can handle it.”
Alec looked at Magnus - they were clearly communicating in a way only married people could. Rafe looked at Max who just shrugged. Either of them had been able to break their parent’s secret communication code.
“Alright,” their dad finally said. “Octavian, you will lead the team. You must report to me directly. But I will be nominating one nephilim and downworlder adult to assist you in the mission. If something goes wrong next time, you must directly contact them.”
“Thanks, dad!” Max threw himself at their father. “I knew you are the best Consul.”
Their father only grinned and ruffled Max’s curls. Rafael slowly made his way to him and hugged him from the side.
“Sorry about the mess, dad,” he mumbled. “I promise I will watch out for Max next time.”
“You need to watch out for yourself too,” their dad whispered softly.
“Mr. Consul,” their Bapa said in a formal voice and their dad rolled his eyes. “I would like to volunteer as the downworlder representative for this Taskforce.”
“Hells yeah!” Max pumped his fist in the year.
“Not gonna happen,” their dad shook his dead.
“What? Why?” Their bapa pouted.
“You’re gonna sit this one out,” his father said sternly. “You have a pathological need to get involved in shadowhunter business.”
“No, I don’t!” their bapa gasped. “You’re the weirdo!”
“You will be working with Drusilla Blackthorn and Lily Chen,” their dad said. “Rafe, I need a report on today’s mission by the end of this week. Octavian, arrange a meeting with Drusilla and Lily immediately. And Max and Mina, try not to blow anything up in the meantime.”
“We have one more request,” Max raised his hand.
“We do?” Rafael questioned.
“This is clearly a serious mission,” Max said in a serious voice. “We need more manpower.”
“Maia and the others are busy with the Allia-”
“Actually, we were thinking of someone younger,” Mina pointed out.
“Someone whose last name might be Herondale,” Max grinned.
“No,” their dad whispered softly. “Not the twins.”
“It’s a dangerous mission that involves fighting demons and blowing things up. If we leave Alex and Charlotte out, we will never hear the end of it,” Rafe pointed out with a smile.
“Fine,” his father relented. “Only because they are excellent fighters and would actually be helpful.”
“In blowing things up,” their bapa chuckled softly.
“Oh oh!” Max put up his hand up excitedly again. “Can we ask George to join us too? And Becca?”
“Max, this is not a birthday party!” His father sighed. “You can’t just invite all your friends.”
Max looked Rafe with a sad face. Rafael had never really been able to say no to that.
“We get it, dad,” Rafael nodded. “So if aunt Izzy asks why we didn’t include her kids in our mission, we’ll just say you said no. Is that correct?”
Their bapa covered his mouth from laughing out loud. “They do have a valid point, Alexander.”
The Consul looked at all their faces and sighed tiredly. “Fine. But if one more person is added to this list…Magnus and I will handle the mansion. The rest of you are dismissed!”
“Dad, quick question,” Max raised his hand - again. “If we add Elyaas to the gang, does that count? Cause he is technically not a person-”
“MAX MICHAEL!!!”

206. Sonic the Hedgehog #138
Tumblr media
Return to Angel Island (Part 1): The Message
Writer: Karl Bollers Pencils: Jon Gray Colors: Jason Jensen
We're in for a big one, guys! This is another four-parter, and it's time to finally find out what's going on on Angel Island! But first, Sally and Sonic have to deal with the blowback from the king about their little Tommy mission. King Max chews them out for a while, with Sally tersely accepting the scolding, but Sonic actually attempts to cover for Sally by lying (badly) that she only came along because he kidnapped her. Of course, the king doesn't believe him, and after coldly calling into question Sally's ability to rule in his stead when they leave on their tour, he sends them off.
Tumblr media
Yikes. Seems things are going to stay frosty between these two for a while. That afternoon, the king and queen, along with Uncle Chuck as their advisor and Antoine as their bodyguard, depart for their world tour. Shortly thereafter, everyone is hanging out in Chuck's diner, which is currently being manned by Jules and Bernie, while Sonic confides in Knuckles and Julie-Su about his troubles with Sally. Julie-Su points out that Sally's feelings are understandable to a degree, as she herself struggled for a long time after Knuckles' return from the grave with feeling comfortable about him going back into battle. The conversation is interrupted by a sudden crash at the door, and everyone is shocked to see a badly injured Charmy and Saffron enter the establishment and immediately collapse. They're immediately taken to receive medical attention, and after that Sally questions the two on what exactly happened. Charmy and Saffron relate, stricken by grief, how Eggman attacked their home at the Goldenhive Colony, and try as they might, they failed to save anyone - and they mean literally anyone. Their parents, all their friends, every single other member of the colony is dead now. I have to say, while this is certainly an… effective way of kicking to the curb Kenders' weird plans to shunt Charmy away from the spotlight, it's also an incredibly brutal way. I mean, how many others here have lost literally everyone they care about? Oh, wait, Knuckles is getting there! Fittingly, at that exact moment a transmission comes through on the Technolo-Tree, but the only thing that can be made out through the static is that Locke is apparently being held prisoner on Angel Island. And at that moment, Knuckles' patience, so carefully maintained just a couple issues ago, finally snaps.
Tumblr media
Sally, you have to remember that it's been almost an entire year that he's been off his island, and he knows he still has friends and family stuck there, with Eggman doing who knows what to them. Can you blame him for wanting to rescue literally the only home he's ever known from Eggman's brutal occupation? Sonic sheepishly leaves with Knuckles, and together they, Julie-Su, the Chaotix (back together again! Also this time including Ray, who's been severely sidelined for quite some time now, and Saffron), and Bunnie all pile into the FFS and fly to Angel Island. Bunnie remains behind at Sonic's request, since he wants to make sure Sally still has a heavy hitter watching over Knothole while they're gone, and everyone else airdrops in, landing in the Marble Garden Zone. Sonic races away to do some split-second recon, and comes back with some pretty horrendous news - there's an honest-to-god prison camp not far from there location, sponsored by Eggman, run by dingoes, and filled with enslaved echidnas being worked half to death by their captors. So, naturally, the intrepid infiltrators race directly in and start causing some havoc.
Tumblr media
Okay, this is something I've danced around for quite a while now, but… I really don’t like the portrayal of the dingoes as this weird military hive mind. Penders very obviously based them off of Nazi Germany in many ways (like… as we saw before in KtE#22, his hints toward this weren't subtle at all), and I believe he's even said that he deliberately only ever showed male dingoes, avoiding portraying women and children among their ranks, so they didn’t appear too sympathetic. Quite aside from the fact that that's a kind of ridiculous and sexist position to take especially given that one of the comic's current most threatening villains is in fact female, this just turns the dingoes into cardboard cutouts of villains instead of an interesting opposing faction in this world's political landscape. I mean, how much more interesting would they be if the story bothered to humanize them, make them relatable? But of course, that would mean that Penders would have to portray his precious echidna society as less than honorable for discriminating against them, and we can't have that, so instead they're all just military hardasses who love xenophobia and hate democracy. Hell, even the actual Nazis had more depth to their evil actions than the dingoes. And, to be fair, I know that this arc is written by Karl, not Penders, but he's just building on everything that Penders has established here, so I'm still putting the blame on Penders.
Anyway, the heroes make quick work of the dingoes stationed in the camp, though Knuckles takes a bad blow that Sonic has to save him from due to his lack of powers. Knuckles begins to protest at being helped, but he's suddenly drowned out by chanting… from the echidna slaves they've just freed. They're all bowing down to him and calling him the Avatar, hailing his return. A flabbergasted Knuckles spots Remington among the crowd and asks him what the hell is going on, and Remington explains that there's been a bit of a, eh, religious revival shall we say, among the echidnas on the island ever since he returned from the dead. Apparently, there's an old prophecy from the Ancient Walkers stating that someone will come back from the dead and deliver everyone on the island from their suffering, and, well, Knuckles fits the first part of that criteria. However, he'd barely come back from the dead before Eggman made his move on the island a year ago, preventing Knuckles from returning until now.
Tumblr media
So things have kind of deteriorated to a severe degree in Knuckles' absence. Echidnaopolis is now Dingo City, and the dingoes are led not by General Stryker, who is conspicuously absent, but instead General Kage, a cyborg underling of Eggman's in charge of finding the Master Emerald somewhere on the island. Of course that's what Eggman is really after here, and they've captured Locke with the intention of getting the location from him one way or the other. He's been chained upside down in some dark room, and Kage has been torturing him nonstop for the past few days trying to get him to crack, to no avail. Eggman merely encourages Kage over video call to keep it up, while we transition to the Lava Reef Zone, which is where Knuckles has led all the rescued echidnas to, away from the prison camp. He's here because this is approximately where the message informing him of his father's capture originated from, but suddenly the group finds themselves surrounded by smoke, and out of the smoke steps an army of Dark Legion soldiers, surrounding them with weapons drawn…

Writer: Ken Penders Pencils: Steven Butler Colors: Jason Jensen
…but who cares about all that interesting plot stuff when we can watch some forty-something moms chat next to a pool where their annoying kids and husbands are playing? Apparently, despite their husbands' rivalry, Julie-Su and Sally have actually become pretty good friends over the years, and lament that they barely get together anymore because of Knuckles and Sonic's hatred of one another. Sally is upset because of how distant Sonic has been acting lately - according to her, he barely talks to anyone he doesn't have to anymore, including Tails, whom he hasn’t spoken to in three whole years now! Excuse me, what?! Okay, Sonic and Knuckles at least have some precedent for their rivalry, however weak that precedent is, but I cannot even begin to imagine a world where Sonic just straight up ghosts his best friend for apparently no reason. Literally, no reason is given! He just doesn't like Tails anymore now! Also, in this timeline, Tails is married to Mina and he's moved to Downunda, because why the hell not? Who needs to make sense or give reasons for anything in their plot? Oh, but that's not all! If you thought that was the extent of Sonic's incredibly out-of-character writing, you thought wrong!
Tumblr media
That's right - Sonic the forty-one-year-old father, war hero, and king of an entire nation is apparently so petty about not being able to hit a volleyball in the pool that he thinks it's acceptable to shove his own young son under the water so he can get to the ball instead. And this isn't just some case of me taking these panels out of context - on the very next page Manik rightfully calls him out on this, only for Sonic to irritably say that Manik has been "getting in his face all afternoon" and that this was the only way he could get to play with the ball. And then, just as if to rub this in our horrified faces, Knuckles also comes over and points out how terrible of an action this is, and when Manik speaks up SONIC FORCES HIM UNDER THE WATER AGAIN TO GET HIM TO STOP TALKING. I just… I cannot even begin to express how bad this is. This is literally the opposite of Sonic the Hedgehog. You cannot get further off the mark than Penders just has right here. Everything about Sonic's characterization in this arc is bad and inaccurate to who he really is, but this interaction right here is the cake topper, the prime example of just how much Penders does not understand the characters he is trying to write. I can pinpoint this as the exact moment I lost all remaining respect for Penders as a writer. I've defended him before, and I stand by my opinions that I do enjoy many of his earlier stories for the comic, but this is a goddamn travesty. Penders. Needs. To. Stop.
*sigh* We have to finish today's issue, so let's… let's just get to the end. Everyone goes inside for dinner, with Sonia and Manik heading out to play with Lara-Su while the adults have dinner together, because apparently they're so stuffy they don't even let their own kids eat with them. Knuckles and Sonic start arguing at the table, big shocker there, while Abby desperately tries to serve them dessert and their boring wives try to rein them in.
Tumblr media
Are we gonna hear anything about what the "drone problem" or the "Overlander uprising" entailed? Those sound too interesting, so NOPE! Instead, the kids walk by and overhear the argument and promise each other they'll never fight like their parents do, while Manik tries to put the moves on Lara-Su, who is not having it. The argument ends when both Knuckles and Sonic belch simultaneously while their wives scold them disapprovingly - I think Penders is trying to go for a comedy movie sketch type thing here where classical music ramps up in hilarious intensity behind the bickering over the family dinner before everything ends on a few sharp notes from the string section, but it just comes off as utterly cringeworthy. Knuckles finally - finally! - manages to get to the point of this entire arc, which is to tell Sonic about how the world is ending. Yes, it took this long for him to tell the main character of this goddamn comic about the main conflict of this goddamn arc. Kill me. Someone please kill me.
Tumblr media
…are you kidding me?! You mean all this time we could have been exploring the ramifications of a planetwide environmental disaster caused by dimensional travel, and the possibility of having to evacuate the planet's population into space, and instead we got to watch two boring husbands belch at each other over goddamn dinner?! I'm done. I'm so done. Everything about this sucks and I hate it. Ken Penders, if I ever see you in person, I will be throwing these hands.

Darksiders Arthurian Tales Revisited
Chapter 11: The Oncoming Storm
Uther meanwhile had placed the coordinates of the rune into a crystal, and used it as a pendulum on a map. After some time spinning, the pendulum went still, pointing at Vortigern's home.
Uther actually facepalmed, "Should've known better. My own brother. Don't make this hard on yourself."
With that Uther turns in for the night, hoping for the best. That his brother will 'listen to reason'. The next morning he awoke and was actually a bit nervous. He still cared for his younger brother, as he'd always supported him before. Especially when he first took their Father's throne. With all these concerns in mind, Uther prepared a carriage to ride out to his brother's home.
Meanwhile Morgen began to hear a voice in her dreams, "Ilona.....Ilona.....my sweet Ilona....I'm coming.....coming back to retrieve you....."
"Who's there? Uther? Is that you in my head?" Morgen calls out.
"Uther.....funny.....how long has it been my sweet Ilona? Don't you remember? Can't you see me?"
"My name is Morgen, so why keep calling me that? Finally, no I do not remember you nor can I see you." Morgen explains.
The void she's currently standing in begins to reveal stars. But upon closer inspection, she only sees eyes. Naturally her knee jerk reaction comes out, and she screams in terror.
The voice laughs, "My sweet Ilona....how long has it truly been my sweet Ilona?"
"Who are you?! What do you want with me?!"
"Look behind you." The voice says tauntingly.
Morgen does so nervously and sees a sheep horned being with eyes sewn shut and body looking rotted. Almost partially mummified as a dark veil surrounded him. She also sees red jewels upon his head and horns that seemed like eyes. More eyes. As Morgen stared in horror the voice spoke again.
"Ooooooh.....my sweet Ilona......"
Suddenly Morgen felt herself being pulled backwards through a portal that spewed light as far as she could tell. She dare not turn around again however. With a jolt and scream in horror she awoke in her bed. Breathing heavily and hugging herself in fear.
Barrcus was instantly alert and wrapped her in his arms, "Shhhh....what's wrong what's wrong?"
Morgen explained as best she could what she'd dreamed off. Although Barrcus was stuck with her rushing through it in her panic.
"Slow down slow down, what was it?" Barrcus pressed her.
Death then came into the room, "What's wrong, what the hell happened?"
"She had nightmare, it seems familiar but I don't really know she's saying."
"She's panicking, that's why she's rambling. You have to calm her down first, then figure out what happened." Death explains. He then sits beside her, grasping her hands, "I'm here, I'm here."
Soon Morgen does start to calm down, it helps that Fuzzball hops in after Death. Noticing he hadn't come back to feed him yet. He of course helps Morgen where he can too. Giving her affection and kisses. After snuggling Fuzzball and getting a gentle sidehug from Death she calmed down completely. From there she explained the dream she had in better detail. Fuzzball seemed a bit scared by the things she described to them.
Death looked at her oddly, "What in the nine hells, was that? I've never heard of any demon, of any kind looking like THAT. How stressed have you been lately, given everything that's happened?"
"Not terribly so in all honesty. If anything I.....uh....Barrcus what's wrong?"
"You used to have that nightmare as a child, before being turned into an Unseelie. You also had these horns when you were little, but you lost them, again, when you were converted." Barrcus explains.
Death then looked at him funny, "Wait horns? Show me."
Barrcus parted Morgen's hair where they were. Death then noticed Morgen was reacting to Barrcus touching them.
"So you can feel your horns?"
"It would explain my dizzy spell from last night." Morgen says.
"I would somewhat surmise but why would have that? From just growing horns?"
"It started when I went to leave your room. I had sensed you needed me, and felt compelled to help. Something kept telling me to reach you, then to touch your head when I approached you. I then entered your nightmare." Morgen explains frankly.
"Wait a second, moonlight, horns, that was you?"
"Yes, were you unable to see me?" Morgen inquires.
"Throughout most of the experience I was in a delirious state, so I don't know if I saw you or not. It's all a little fuzzy." Death admits.
"I see. Well I was indeed in your head, and after I made sure you were at peace I went to leave. I got dizzy on my way out and the next thing I know everything went black."
"Next time you have one of these urges, let me urge you NOT to go through with them." Death insists.
"Very well, I only meant to help."
"Well I would say take caution with this stuff but, I feel like I'm out of my element with this. Wait a second, I do remember Merlin bringing up Dream Magic at one point. It was involving the Wendigo." Death states.
"Then let's speak to him, right away." Morgen replies.
Then suddenly her younger cousins come into the room looking scared.
"Cousin Morgen, Uncle Uther's here." Anna says.
"Yeah, he doesn't look angry but he's still scary." Elaine adds on.
Morgen hugs the little girls in their terror, "Easy sweeties easy now."
Death meanwhile immediately begins thinking of measures to keep Morgen away from Uther. "Stay behind me, get your brother."
Morgen nods and hurries to do so with Death making sure to keep ahead of her. Upon finding Arthur playing in his crib she quickly scoops him up. He gets upset though as he drops his new toy. Morgen gives it him but makes sure she has an excuse ready as to why it exists. Arthur calms as soon as he gets his toy back and Morgen hurries after Death. Only to bump into Uther talking to Vortigern at the main doorway.
"There a reason why you're here brother?"
"I left a tracker to find an enemy of the state. It led me here, I need to...search the grounds for him." Uther states.
"I can't just let you into my home brother."
"Why not?" Uther inquired.
"It isn't ready for guests."
Uther then points out, "You're living here are you not. This was a gift for you, was it not? Pray tell, who gave it to you?"
"You did."
"And I can easily take it away. The only reason I don't is because I care about you, and your children. Besides, it would break Morgen's heart dearly if she found out what happened. She's always spoken so highly of you little brother, and she adores your daughters. I also know that whenever she disappears she comes straight to you. Though this is the first time she's taken Arthur with her I must say." Uther states.
Morgen meanwhile, is quietly having a panic attack and tries muffling her frantic breathing by placing her face against Death's back. Death feels her breaths on his back and quietly tells her, "Relax, I won't let him take you. Besides, he doesn't know you're here right now."
"Anyway, I'm here to see Morgen, to see how she's doing." Uther then says.
"Last time I checked she ran off yesterday." Vortigern tries to tell him.
"My sources say otherwise, so again would allow me in your house. Besides I need to check for the 'criminal' in question."
Morgen felt faint at this and Death finally turned around, "Relax, he doesn't know we're here right now."
"So are you going to let me in?" Uther asks Vortigern again.
"No, last I checked I had no 'enemies of the state'."
Morgen grabbed Death's arm and pleaded, "Death please......I can't....I can't breathe.....please....get me away......please."
Death quickly brings her back to Barrcus and questions him, "What's her best memory?"
"There's a coast by where her original parents used to live. I'll tell you where it is." Barrcus states showing him on a map.
Death keeps it in mind and quickly inquires, "Should we take Arthur with us?"
"I'll keep him safe, don't worry. Just make sure Morgen calms down. I've seen what happens if she melts down." Barrcus explains gesturing to himself partially.
Death nods, "Right. Just let us know when he's gone."
Barrcus nods as well, "Ok. Now quickly."
Death then rushes Morgen away to get her outside, making sure she's at least calm enough to be quiet. Keeping her close to help ensure she isn't taken without him noticing. Finally he makes it out of the house with her and summons Despair to ride out of there. Morgen holds onto him the whole way, course eventually he stops Despair so they can 'take a break'.
Morgen hugs him right away and implores, "Death, why have we stopped? And be honest this time."
"Cause right now apparently you need to remain calm. So, tell me something about yourself that you've not told me yet."
"Uhm ok....well....my actual name is Morgana. I just go by Morgen because it sickens me when Uther says my real name." Morgen explains.
"Ah, whatelse about you? Like uhm....what's your favorite kind of meal?" Death asks before thinking to himself, "Seriously imbecile? Seriously? That was the best you could do?"
"Hmm well I actually like soups, particularly anything fragrant and cooling." Morgen says earnestly.
"Uhm eh.....ok.....What's your favorite kind of music?"
"Folk music from various places. Mina was a big influence in that front. Always preached openness with music. What about you? What's your favorite music?" Morgen replies managing a smile.
"Aggressive....probably aggressive..." Death tells her a bit embarrassed.
"Plenty of orchestral pieces can be aggressive from what I've seen."
"Heheheheheheh....you've haven't heard aggressive, until you've heard metal mixed with orchestra." Death insists to her.
Morgen snickers a bit, "I'll bare this in mind then. Shall we push on? Unless you'd rather remain a bit longer?"
"I don't mind talking, as long as it's with good company. But I think it's best that we continue."
"Right, the further away from 'him' the better." Morgen states in agreement.
She hops back onto Despair with Death's help before the two continue their ride. Soon enough the smell of salt in the air tells Death where he is. He finds the coast easily enough, overlooked by an abandoned castle. It looked as though it could fall into the sea at any moment. Morgen herself hopped off Despair once more and walks out towards the water. She actually pulls a crystal from her belt pouch and then with the snap of her fingers her clothing disappears. Then her crystal lights up, indicating the clothes were there for later. As Morgen looked through the crystal's inventory for a towel, Death glances her way,
"Dah! Was not expecting that...at all. Didn't mean for that, my bad, I'm sorry. I'll be over here...."
"Oh I'm sorry, I probably should've warned you huh?" Morgen inquires nervously.
""Uh yep, warning would've helped, it definitely would've helped. Didn't know were on a nude beach to begin with." Death says sarcastically.
"Oh very funny. Give me a moment."
Morgen went back to looking through the inventory and ended up finding a swimsuit. She'd actually gotten it once sometime back, having enjoyed the look it. Deep blue with gold trim and gold corset style laces over the slit in the skirt and the breast pieces.
Once she got it on she hollered at Death, "Better?"
Death looked back over after a moment of calming the dragon down, "I uh.....woah...just woah.", all the while he prayed to the Creator that he wouldn't have to tame the dragon again.
"Is it too much perhaps? I know it's still a bit 'showy' but...." Morgen begins to say.
Death closed the distance quickly and placed his hand under her chin, "It's fine. Besides enjoy the water, I'll be there in a moment."
Morgen smiles heading into the sea. The water was cool and clear as the sky above. The breeze was actually quite pleasant as well. Morgen couldn't help but feel at ease as she dove beneath the waves to explore. Using a spell to make sure she could breathe underwater, before dancing slowly with the sea's current aiding her in the movements. Doing the occasional slow twirl or flip was equally enjoyable as well. Course she heard a hard dive above her and glanced up in confusion. She saw Death swimming frantically to her and quickly hurried up to him. Seeing she was fine gave him peace but he wanted to be sure, and so pulled her back above the surface.
"Next time you think about heading under, tell me. Just in case you know?"
"Forgive me, got a bit excited. It's been so long since I've enjoyed the sea like this." Morgen explains apologetically.
"How long has it been since you've been here?"
"I actually can't say with certainty. It's....just been that long." Morgen replies a bit solemnly.
"How long has he been keeping you locked up in that castle?"
"I want to say....it was ever since my Mother passed. After that I found myself closed off. Rarely allowed outside the castle, and rarer still that I visit anyone. Usually they'd have to come see me, and very few people could put up with Uther for long. Especially with him watching like a hawk and listening to everything." Morgen tells him.
"How the hell did he become King?"
"I'm told he wasn't always the way he is now. Vortigern always states as much. Saying how he'd once been an honorable man. Both of them served their people and Father well. But their Father had soon proven himself 'inadequate' as my Uncle likes to put it. So much so, that they were left with only one choice. To end their Father so that Uther might usurp him, being the eldest of the two. Uther took this option with as much reluctance as my Uncle, according to him anyway. He ruled properly for a time, making allies in grand places and strategic plans for any scenarios that came up to threaten his reign. However, over time....he became more brutal, and less sympathetic to his enemies. It all came to a head when he met my Mother. Only my Father stood in his way, and was met with hostility for it. Uther wanted blood, and my Mother. And he gladly achieved both goals. Then after my Mother died, he suddenly developed a persecution complex and became fiercely overprotective of me. Only for that to turn into something far worse for me." Morgen explains.
"You think there's anything left of the good man he used to be?"
"I've seen....glimpses...I think. Personally it looks like pure madness to me, but it's at the same time different. His hair and body will go pale, he'll appear almost sickly. His personality will also shift suddenly too, and he'll be actually somewhat nice to people. But it never lasts long, he also tends to look far angrier when he comes out of those episodes of calm."
Death narrows his eyes in thought, "Strange. Does he ever stand in the middle of a room, not knowing why he was there to begin with?"
"No, not once."
"How angry does he get when these 'episodes' happen?" He questions her.
"Angry enough to throw things across rooms when he 'comes to his senses' so to speak."
"Even stranger. I've no idea what is going on, that much I do know. I'm sorry, wish I could help." Death expresses.
"You are helping, more than you think. You listen to me for one, and secondly you've been a big support to me."
"Hmmm.......thank you."
"Thank you as well." Morgen replies.
"Have you ever been close to marine wildlife before?" Death asked in a quick spark of an idea forming.
"Only small things usually. Why?"
"Hmm...let's see if we can fix that. Follow me."
Death then brings Morgen back under, and waits for her to redo the spell for breathing. She goes to put it on him as well, but he gestures that he's fine. Then he begins leading Morgen to the reef below them. Morgen was delighted to see it teeming with life. With several small fish and other little critters darting around the coral. She watches them before Death gently pulls her over to small cave. Inside it is an octopus tending to her eggs. Death couldn't help but smile behind the mask as Morgen gushed. Course he quickly pulled her back once the Mother octopus got too annoyed with them.
As they began to back away from the cave, a shark made it's way over to them. Morgen quickly began tapping Death, but he simply held his hand out. The shark gets close only to immediately turn away. Death keeps his hand out for a time before finally stopping. Then he points out to Morgen to look at the reef again. She does so and cocks her confusion but Death has an idea. He taps a structure nearby that seems to be coming out from under the reef. After a second of that the 'structure' moves and Morgen realizes the whole reef is moving now. Death pulls her up ways quickly, and it's then that Morgen realizes the reef is actually on a massive crab. It looks like a hermit crab mated with a decorator crab. They remain to watch the giant crab head on it's way, and then head back up to the surface. Upon breaking the surface, Morgen can't help but express her excitement.
"That was incredible. An entire reef on a massive creature. What a perfect place for one."
"You should hear about giant sea turtles with the islands on their backs. I've even seen some that can fly." Death informs her.
"That sounds amazing in all honesty. Although I imagine the turtles probably get irritated easily hmm?"
"Depends, the older they are the less likely they are to get frustrated. I've seen an entire civilization on one before." Death explains.
"That's amazing. Thank you for showing me the reef. It was wonderful. Although why did the shark leave us alone?"
"Magnemancy, I learned a few tricks here and there. For one thing, Sharks don't like magnets. Two, multiple, powerful magnetic pulses to sharks means something big is in front of them. Simple science, that's all." Death states simply.
Morgen nods in understanding, then gets a sneaky idea. She decides to use some magic of her own. Using some water magic, she amplifies a splash of water his way. Not too much of course, but enough to drench him. Course Death looks at her with a cocked head, and a sly grin under his mask as she laughs.
"Really?" Death asks before flexing then creating a splash of his own to drench her, "There's some magic for ya."
Morgen and Death then go back and forth for a bit. That is until Death restrains Morgen in a hug.
"Ok that's enough. Let's head back to shore, relax a bit there savvy."
"Sounds good to me." Morgen says relenting and following him back.
She lays on her beach towel and Death finally sees just how pale she is. Naturally he does have to ask about how bad sunburns are for her, "How easy is it for you to get burned, by the sun?"
"Oh right...I should probably use lotion." Morgen says looking in her crystal.
"Yes that would be a very smart idea."
"Said the pale gray man. You sure you don't need any yourself?" Morgen inquires.
"I have a natural healing ability, you don't. Plus I'm half demon, burning isn't a thing that happens."
"Alright alright, quit your flexing. Think you could help me out? I can get most of my body on my own. But my back....not so much." Morgen says.
"Ok then....welp here goes nothing." Death says before checking the SPF on the bottle she has, "Now let's see what we got here. SPF fifty, that should be a hundred. Given how pale you are."
"Ok Mr. SPF one thousand, very funny. Check my crystal for more if you wish."
He jolts before grumbling at the fact that she's keeping up with him. He looks through her inventory crystal to find a better bottle and ends up finding a book that has an interesting title. One he recognizes from a collection one his old friends has.
He can't hell but laugh, "Stars on the Sea? Are you serious? This is a poor attempt at romantic space horror, for a reason."
"Yes it's pretty cheesy, although...how is it you know that Horseman hmm? Got a little curious one night?" Morgen asks coyly.
"I have a certain friend who enjoys these kinds of books. She likes to describe them to me, or read em out. I lost a bet, and I had to read this one. Ugh.....at least she found the event humorous."
Morgen contains most of her laughter, but snickers do escape, "Oh that must've been so horrible for you."
"Even worse when the others showed up unexpectedly. Strife NEVER let me forget it, he even RECORDED IT. It's ok, I got him back with a similar twist. True torture, for him not for us. We were laughing our asses off, well subtly." Death explains chuckling a bit towards the end.
"Sounds like something to witness. Guessing you recorded it as well?"
"Ehehehehehehahahahaha....yeeees. Wanna see?" Death tells her.
"Believe me, I do." Morgen replies giggling.
"Just sit still so I can put the lotion on ok? Don't need to...touch anything by accident."
"Right." Morgen says softly before relaxing on her stomach.
Death gives her his own crystal with the recording on it as he works on her back. He works to be gentle on her so he doesn't hurt her. Course he can't help but notice something interesting, the wing tattoos on her back had an iridescent look to em. This wasn't something Fae had, so perhaps Morgen was something more than that. He couldn't readily tell what she may be race wise though. He would've gotten the back of her legs as well, but he figured that'd be a job for her. He didn't want to intrude on any boundaries. Course when working on her shoulders a bit and her neck he noticed she reacted strangely. Well it looked strange until he recognized what she was doing. Apparently her shoulder and neck were a bit sensitive.
"Uhmmmm....think my job here is done." Death immediately says before going to wash his hands off.
Morgen naturally begins working on the rest of her body and can't help but laugh hysterically as the recording reaches the most uncomfortable moments for Strife. As he's forced to read the novel he was given. Death glances over and sees just how flexible she is. A certain thought or two flashed through his mind before he quickly set such thoughts aside. He then turns around again, having yet another dragon to tame. Luckily it's not as bad this time. Course Morgen chooses to lay down after getting the lotion on. When Death looks back to her he sees her somewhat sprawling out on her towel. He checks up on her and sees she's just fine. Death then leans against a fallen tree log, his arms behind his head. Morgen soon rolls onto her side and begins absent-mindedly humming. Course Death heard it become softer over time and soon she went silent. He looked over to see her sleeping on her towel. Course he began to feel himself falling asleep as well, and immediately tried fighting it. His efforts were futile however, and soon he fell asleep himself. A couple hours later he wakes up to a singing feeling in his chest, particularly his nipples. A mix of a growl and groan leaves his mouth as he awakens. He decides to grab some shade but then hears Morgen groaning in her sleep as well. Placing a shadow mist over himself, he briskly walked over to her. He saw the horns on her head and realized they seemed a bit more noticeable now. He finally decided to wake her up as she didn't do so on her own.
"Morgen, wake up."
"Nnnnngh.....Death?" Morgen asked still partially asleep.
"Morgen?"
Morgen rolls over towards him and begins reaching around for where he is. Before Death can grab her hand, she accidentally touches his right pectoral. Death flinches instantly and quickly grabs her hand to stop her. This action woke Morgen up and she immediately apologized.
"Oh Creator I am so sorry!"
"Nngh.....that part of me is tender right now....just be careful...oww."
"Again Death I am so sorry. I....AHHHHAHHH! HaaaaaaaaAAAAAAH! AAHN!" Morgen repeated before suddenly being hit with more pain in her head.
Death quickly looked Morgen over and questioned her, "Morgen what is it?! What's going on?!"
"My head....aaahhhh.....!" Morgen yelled in her pain.
Death quickly checked around her head and noticed the horns again. This time, he felt them growing, "What....what the hell?"
Morgen only continued screaming in pain, prompting Death to call for help. He grabs a crystal and calls Strife, "Strife! Get Barrcus, we need his help!"
"Barrcus isn't here."
"Well get Merlin then, and hurry up!"
"Ok going to get him." Strife quickly says before hanging up. He's of course careful not to get caught too.
Merlin soon teleports to Death the second Strife reaches him with the word that something went wrong.
"What's seems to be the problem?"
"She's in massive pain and her horns are apparently growing." Death informs him.
"What? Horns? Ok when the hell did that happen? And why has nobody told me about this?"
"I'll explain later, now help her!" Death shouts.
"Easy easy easy, this may take a little bit of time." Merlin expresses.
Eventually Merlin does find the right spell, one that stops the pain for Morgen. But of course the pain left her drained and a bit lightheaded. Death kept her upright and inquired of Merlin, "Now what do we do, mage?"
"First off, you need to start telling me when the horns started growing. Second off, after you're done explaining that I need to tell you something."
"Alright, but we need to take her inside. She can't rest out here in the open." Death expresses a bit concerned.
"Alrighty, up to the scary ass castle." Merlin states.
"That....was my family's home....you know this..." Morgen protests.
"Save your energy." Death tells her before lifting her up princess style. The pains on his chest becoming trifles as his concern for Morgen takes over.
He can feel Morgen shift every so often in his arms and can't help but glance at her each time she does so. Gently he begins to stroke her face with his fingers a bit. As he keeps checking on her, Merlin notices him.
"Eyes of a hawk I see."
"What do you mean by that?" Death inquires.
Merlin gives him a suggestive stare, "Really? You still gonna pretend to be dense?"
Death cocks his head, "Seriously? So have you figured what's wrong with her?"
Merlin facepalms, "She needs to be on a bed first. Also, YOU NEED TO EXPLAIN TO ME WHEN THOSE HORNS SHOWED UP."
"It happened last night. She said she went into my dreams and this happened after that."
"Hmm, was it a nightmare or a dream, or both?" Merlin inquires.
"Started off as a nightmare, ended in a dream."
"Ah. Also again, there's something I need to tell you. Barrcus has been taken." Merlin explains.
"Wait what?!"
"Yeah Uther came by as you remember, forced his way in fact after you left. And upon being unable to find Morgen or you, let's just say he took Barrcus instead. Mina's currently freaking out about it." Merlin tells him.
"He's being used as bait, to get Morgen to go back. We can't let her find out, not yet. She'd be reckless for one, and two I am not putting her back in that situation. I promised I wouldn't let him take her."
Merlin could definitely tell now, how much he really cares for her, "Alright you lovebird, so what are we going do we do to get him back?"
Death smirks under his mask, "If I could get Harker, I could get Barrcus."
"Right. Even still you can't go on your own. Uther's most likely going to be expecting that. After all, if Morgen doesn't show up, nine times out of ten it's gonna be you. Besides, when it comes to Morgen, I'm currently out of my league. But I know someone that Aspen knows who can help."
Death grabs his shoulders, "Get to the point."
"Anyway, the person in question can help Morgen. I think. He's a very strange person, very odd, to say the least."
"Like you?" Death asks sarcastically.
"Hey, I'm normal compared to him."
"Alright, can he be trusted?" Death inquires.
"As far as I'm concerned he boths hates Uther but also doesn't care. Aspen could explain better than I can in this situation, given the fact that they're uh sleeping together."
Death gets a weirded out look, "Ok that's too much to know."
"Better you hear from me than him. Cause that is guy is apologetically open and honest."
"Is he a demon by chance?" Death inquires.
"No, but some consider him to be a demon. The dude has like strange tattoos in some parts of his body."
Death cocks his head, "How strange are they?"
"Eh they look like runes of sort. Oddly enough though, they look straight from the Dream Realm."
"And you think this means he's familiar with the Dream Realm? Enough to help Morgen at least?" Death asks.
"Perhaps. We'll just have to see. Although be warned, he will ask VERY odd questions. He literally asked me one time about my sex life."
Death only laughs, "Let me guess he asked how much?"
"He overheard me and Aspen talking about it and wanted to know And I told him. He was both surprised and yet not surprised."
"Noted. Now should we get Morgen over to Aspen or not?" Death asks.
"Technically the dude can make house calls, we just have to tell Aspen we're borrowing him."
Death facepalms, "I'm going so feeling so awkward after this."
"Yep."
Death sighs then calls up Aspen. After getting the explanation she goes to a lone tree in her wood. One close to her residual tree in fact. Sleeping at its roots is a tall, shredded man with horns upon his head. Any at first glance may mistake him as a demon, but Aspen knew better. This was a Fomorian, at least that's what he looked like to her. He never corrected Aspen on that either, so she just continued to assume he was a Fomorian. Aspen came to his side and gently began to stroke his face, "Nergal?"
"Mmm....yes my dear?" Nergal inquires in soothing yet intimidating tone.
"A friend called me, said he requires your assistance with something. Although I don't know how he knew of you. I never mentioned our relationship to Death."
"Hmm, did you ask him to call Merlin?" Nergal asks.
"I didn't think to, although I thought I could hear the man snickering nearby when Death called."
"Well, if one of the Horseman is calling me I mustn't keep him waiting should I?" Nergal states before holding Aspen close for a moment, "When I get back, I would like to show you a very lovely evening."
"I'd be delighted, just don't rush things alright?" Aspen tells him before receiving a kiss.
Nergal then rips open a portal, swinging his hand in a slow chopping motion. Once done he waves to Aspen and smiles coyly at her before going through.

PS-Ugh, I’m sorry, but Globgor and Eclipsa won’t meet until the next chapter! It just felt right to stop the chapter where it did. I hope you all enjoy this little extra backstory for our main heroes! Take heart in the fact that by the end of the chapter, they’re on their way to meeting each other!
Prologue CH1
 Ages
 Globgor: 8
 Eclipsa: 7
CH1-I’m Not Good at Making Friends
Booted feet skid down the stairs as the Solarian Warrior sped towards the entrance in order to meet up with her most adored queen. She had her arms filled with paperwork as she took the stairs two at a time. Of course, this caused her to drip and send her work flying. She mentally cursed as she quickly gathered them up again.
“Mina, what’s taking you so long?”
Mina jumped and zipped over to the side of the Her Majesty. She gave a sharp salute, making sure to stand tall and proud. “Ma’am, please forgive my tardiness, ma’am!”
Solaria raised an eyebrow. “Is that toast in your mouth?”
The young woman was quiet before she spit out the offensive breakfast that she had stuffed in her mouth at the last minute.
The queen sighed, but smiled at the loyal soldier regardless. “Well, it’s nice of you to finally show up. I really don’t want to attend this pointless negotiation without my support group.” She threw a saddle on her unicorn as she continued to grumble. “Just the very thought of sitting in the same room with these savages is enough to make me want to lose my lunch.”
Mina didn’t look much happier. “With all due respect my Queen, why’d ya agree to even toy with the idea of talking things out?”
“Believe me, if it was up to me alone, I’d strike our enemies down while their guard is down.” Solaria made a fist and glared, as if she could see her hated foes right in front of her. “However, the High Commission ‘strongly suggested’ that we attempt a temporary truce with the monsters. Their attacks on the castle have been too frequent.”
“Ah, so what?” Mina took a battle pose and threw a few mock punches. “If they try anything, me and the rest of the Solarian Warriors will show ‘em what for! Just like we have been!”
Solaria put a hand on the young woman’s shoulder and lead her off the side. “Yes, Mina. My warriors’ loyalty and strength are second to none, particularly yours. However, I can’t take the risk. I can’t allow any of my servants to be harmed, or the loved ones of my allies…” The queen held a hand up to the balcony of Eclipsa’s room. “Not to mention the princess of Me-“
Her words cut off as a small body suddenly leaped from the spot she was pointing, giving a little cry as she landed squarely in the bushes below.
“Eclipsa!” Solaria ran over to the bush and immediately dug her daughter out. She held her up and examined her for any injuries. She seemed fine with just a few sticks and twigs sticking out of her curls.
Eclipsa looked sheepish as she went under visual interrogation. “Eheh…..Hey Mommy. I thought you’d be gone by now…”
Solaria, seeing her daughter was unharmed, set the small girl back on to the ground. Okay, worried mommy was done. Time for angry mommy. “Eclipsa, what in the name of corn were you thinking?! Did you actually jump down from your balcony like some sort of crazy beast?! Answer me, Eclipsa!”
The princess sighed and put on a familiar face of guilt. Anyone could tell that the girl had been scolded like this many times in the past. She was used to it, but didn’t really enjoy upsetting her mother all the same. “I-I was aiming for the bushes…..I made it, didn’t I? Aren’t you impressed?”
“My pride in your courage and agility is not what’s important here! I told you to stay in your room!”
“But Mommy, I can’t anymore!” Eclipsa wailed, giving her curls a sharp tug. “I want to go outside! I haven’t been outside the castle in so long! I’m going crazy!”
Solaria sighed. She knelt down beside her daughter and patted the top of her head. “Yes my sweet, I understand. It must be hard for your free spirit to be contained as much as it is. However, that doesn’t change the fact that the monsters have made it unsafe for all of us, most especially a young girl like you. One day you’ll be able to go about freely without a care in the world. but not until we’ve put those monsters in their place.”
Eclipsa couldn’t suppress her groan. That was all she ever heard. No Eclipsa, you can’t do this because of monsters, you can’t do that because of monsters, only after monsters are gone, Eclipsa. This wasn’t fair. How long was this fight going to go on? Mewmans and monsters had been fighting for what she was pretty sure was her entire life. What if this went on forever? What if she was never free?
“Mommy…..I’m tired of this. I’m so lonely….”
Solaria sighed again and closed her eyes. She shook  her head, her long braid swishing back and forth. “Lonliness. Such nonsense. One thing a royal should never feel is lack of companionship. There’s always someone around, needing your immediate attention, and then another person right on top of them.” She opened her eyes. “Still…I understand you’re still young and are not yet burdened with the heavy weight of running a kingdom. I can understand why you would still feel the need for companionship.”
Solaria turned her head to look at her purple-haired companion. “Mina, you’ll stay behind and keep Eclipsa company.”
Well, that wasn’t meant with a positive response.
“WHAT?!” both girls cried in horror.
“B-But your majesty! Y-You need me beside you in case the negotiation goes south, which I’m pretty sure is more likely to happen than not! I can’t just stay here and be the kid’s babysitter!” Mina wailed, giving the young princess an accusatory look, as if she was personally out to get the warrior.
Her words were instantly silenced by the steely glare given to her by the queen. “That ‘kid’ is your future queen, Mina. I’d advise you to watch your tongue.”
Mina gulped. “Y-Yes, your majesty. I meant no disrespect…”
“But Mommy, I don’t want to play with Mina! She’s crazy!” She exchanged an unkind look with the warrior before continuing. “Plus, I want to be around kids my own age! I mean, I love Uncle Jushtin, but I’m tired of being around adults all the time!”
“Well, I’d hardly call your uncle an ‘adult’, but….” Solaria nodded. “I do understand  where you’re coming from.” She once again looked at Mina. “Go fetch the princesses from the Spiderbite and Ponyhead families. They should be in the courtyard with their parents. Send them a formal invitation for a playdate with Princess Eclipsa.”
Mina saluted her queen before zipping off to carry out her commands.
Eclipsa looked up at her mother with a large smile. “Thank you, Mommy! Now staying inside won’t be so bad! This is going to be a lot of fun!”
~~~
I was wrong, I was wrong, I was wrong….
This was way worse that being alone.
Oh sure, Eclipsa enjoyed herself a nice cup of tea as much as the next girl, but she could do with far more entertaining company. She had thought hanging around kids her own age would allow her to get away from the boringness and dreariness of politics, but not so. Not so. The princesses from the Ponyhead and Spiderbite Kingdom were just as obsessed with talking about the future of Mewni. For crying out loud, they weren’t even queens yet! Didn’t anyone just want to have a good chat with a spot of tea?
“The monsters still consider us one of them, despite our totally clear alliance with the Mewmans! They just, won’t get the memo!” Pom-pom Ponyhead said with an eyeroll.
Grissy Spiderbite nodded, resting a hand against her swollen cheek. “I hear you, but count yourself lucky! At least you don’t live next door a monster stronghold. It’s almost impossible to go anywhere without running into their ugly little faces. Not even the spiders can keep them out!”
Eclipsa tiredly dipped a finger in her tea. “Hey, do you girls want to play hide-and-seek or something?”
“-If they go around killing all your spiders, you guys may have to rename your kingdom!”
Eclipsa blinked. Did they not hear her? “Or maybe we could draw something?”
“-don’t be ridiculous. The Forest of Unlikely Spiderbites will always have spiders on stand by. Trust me, the breeding is insane.”
Eclipsa leaned back in her seat, staring straight up at the ceiling. Well, this was the absolute worst. If she stayed there much longer, she was pretty sure she was going to die. Or fall asleep. One of the two.
Her dark eyes looked around the playroom, desperate for something to occupy herself lest she be defeated by the iron grip of boredom. The talk between the other princesses was just white noise to her by this point. The Butterfly princess did manage to brighten up a bit as she saw a lone guitar sitting in the left corner of the room. How long had that been there?
Without even excusing herself, Eclipsa made her way over to the instrument. She giggled mischievously as she put the strap over her shoulder and gently touched the strings. It was time to liven up this dreary tea party a bit!
Eclipsa lifted her hands and began slamming heavy notes out of the guitar, the noise somehow sounding like a high-pitched wail. The princess bobbed her head sharply to the music, sticking her tongue as she felt the harsh sound ring deliciously through her body. Yeah! Nothing made her feel as free as the sound of her blaring music! Sadly, her guests didn’t share her enthusiastic opinion.
“What are you doing, Eclipsa?!” Grissy groaned, covering her ears and shaking her head.
Pon-pon was in a state of near panic. “Grissy, help! I don’t have hands to cover my ears! This is torture!”
“What? It’s just music!” Eclipsa called over the sound of her tunes.
“That is not music! I’ve heard music, that ain’t it!” Pon-pon wailed.
Grissy quickly snatched the instrument from Eclipsa, holding it away at arm’s length. “Why can’t you play like a normal person? A calm, classical tune? Hammering away like is barbaric and an insult to my ears!”
Eclipsa gave a small smile while shrugging good-naturedly. “I don’t have anything against slow music, but what I was doing was a new form of music I’ve seen some Mewmans do. Doesn’t it sound so exciting? Really gets into your blood, right?”
The princesses stared at her, their faces clearly lost on the notion.
“……You’re so weird,” Pon-pon said.
“I guess it’s not your fault though.” Grissy adjusted the guitar so that she was holding it in a position that could be played. “I mean, just like at your mother. It seems madness is just a key factor in the Butterfly bloodline.” With that, the Spiderbite princess began to strum a quiet melody while humming an old song passed down by her people.
“……” Eclipsa watched the two play for a moment before deciding she could be spending her time doing something better. Almost instinctively, her mauve-colored eyes roamed over to the window positioned behind her.
…..
In retrospect, if she stayed in a location that had Mewman adults, she didn’t have to worry about coming under harm’s way. They’d protect her and she would still be able to get a little fresh air.
But what would her mother say?
…..
Eclipsa didn’t bother to give the princesses another glance before making her escape.
~~~
The rat had been minding his own business in his little self-made hole. He hadn’t been bothering anyone. He had just been collecting a few unwanted scraps of food in order to store away for later. So of course, when he saw a tiny scrap of cheese delivered right in front of his hole, of course he didn’t think anything of it. Maybe the monster residing here had noticed his presence and had decided to provide him with a welcome to the neighborhood party.
His theory was quickly crushed once the minute he left his safe haven, a small, red form leaped on top of his back and pressed a stick against his neck from behind.
“You’ve met your match, you pest!” the tiny monster cried. No matter how hard the rat ran and tried to buck off his captor, he didn’t gain his release. Instead, he felt himself being steered against his will towards the wall he had been living in. Instead of being sent straight into his hole however, he was sent headfirst into the solid wall. His world began to spin as he finally submitted to the terrible beast and slumped on to the ground. He gave one last thrash before his world went dark. The last thing he saw was two sets of eyes on top of one another, all four gleaming at him with satisfaction.
~~~
“Well, that’s it! I got ‘em all!” Globgor declared as he returned to his average size. He picked up the rodent he had just rendered unconscience and tossed it in the pile of the rest of his captive pests. There had to have at least been a little over a dozen.
“So you did. Heh. I guess you really do have a bright future as a soldier, if that’s how quickly you can dispatch your enemies.” Gooblah gestured towards the front door with his head. “Now, if you could just carry them out, I’ll be happy to-“
He stopped his words as he watched the young monster gobble up the pile of KO’d rodents as if they were nothing more than a pile of potato chips. “Did you say something?” Globgor asked, before slurping up a tail like it was a noodle.
Gooblah grimaced. “Um, no. Nothing.” He handed the boy a large sack tied with a knot on the top. “Here. Breakfast and lunch in exchange for you handling my little rodent problem.”
Globgor took the package hesitantly. “Our deal was just for breakfast.”
The older man shrugged. “Yeah, well, everyone deserves a break once in awhile, and I had a little extra food.”
Globgor shook his head and sat the sack on the floor. He opened it and began handing the other back some of the food. “Then it should be going to the really young kids, or the crippled, or the sick. I don’t need any handouts. I can earn my keep.”
“I can’t tell if you’re selfless or just stubborn.”
“Well, what about you?” Globgor folded his arms and gave the man a frown. “Are you seriously going to meet the Monster Carver in person and not bite her head off?”
Gooblah sighed, obviously having had this conversation many times. “Honestly Globgor, it hurts me to hear you say that. This is a sit-down. We agreed to meet in peaceful terms. You would have us go back on our word?”
“For the sake of monsterkind, I would.”
“Then you have no honor. And that makes you no better than Solaria.” Despite his rising temper, Gooblah didn’t take joy the offended and even hurt look that appeared on the boy’s face. Still, he had no father to teach him these things. The two of them only shared a kinship due to being the only Size-Shifters in Mewni….maybe even in the whole multiverse. They were hardly family to each other. That didn’t stop the older of the two from feeling sorry for the younger though. It was hard  having to watch a hardworking child be corrupted by the selfish mistakes of adults. There didn’t seem to be anything he could do to help him though.
Globgor snatched up his breakfast before heading to the door. “I don’t know why they agreed to your stupid sit-down plan. As if the Monster Carver would ever form any kind of truce. We had her backed into a corner with the attacks on Butterfly Castle! We could be taking the whole place right now!”
Gooblah frowned. “Oh? ‘We’? I wasn’t aware you were out there risking your life with all the adults.”
Globgor glared. “She’ll smite you the minute she lays eyes on you!”
“Then she will be the villain, not me.”
“You’re an old fool. You deserve whatever happens to you.” With a slam of the door, Globgor was gone.
A melancholy sigh escaped Gooblah as he listened to the boy run off.
“Maybe, child. Maybe.”
~~~
Globgor grumbled angrily to himself as he quickly scarfed down his hard-earned breakfast. He didn’t have time to waste. Not on breakfast and not on that foolish old man he had the misfortune of sharing his breed with. He needed to get down by the river and see if his net caught any fish last night.
As he was scarfing down the last bit, his ears perked up at the sound of nearby laughter. His face twitched as he looked to the side to see a group of monster kids playing with a ball nearby. They were playing keep away from one member, who still seemed to be enjoying himself regardless. They teasingly pushed each other followed by endless bouts of laughter and cheering.
….
Globgor shook his head at their childish behavior. How could they act so carefree like that? Didn’t they know that the adults were out there fighting for their very lives? That at any moment the Mewmans could come and steal away their home? Their food? Their very livelihood? Monsters were being robbed of everything they held dear, and what were these guys doing? Playing a game, like it was the most important thing going on in their dull lives.
Globgor stood up and straightened his tunic out. He didn’t have time for such nonsense. He knew what was truly important. Every monster needed to lend a hand if they were ever going to win this war. Let them have their ridiculous games. He had fish to deliver.
“But Globgor, you’re not even a teen yet! Aren’t you due a little fun before you actually grow up?”
The boy blinked in surprise before looking up to find the owner of the voice. Once he saw who it was, he simply rolled his eyes and continued on his trek to the river. “Not now Banana Hat Muscle Whale. I have work to do.”
The muscular mammal floated after his creator. “C’mon, why don’t you ask them if you can play too?”
“Ha! I wouldn’t be caught dead!”
“You act like you’re so tough, but I’m starting to think you’re just a snob!”
“It’s called being an adult!” Globgor hissed. He hadn’t stopped walking. “Not that you would know what that is, considering you’re not even real!” He crossed his arms and stuck his nose up in indignation. “I’m not going to be one of those kids who act like everything is fine and there aren’t monsters out there fighting and dying for us. Not only is it a disservice to monsterkind, but everyone is already expecting things from me. Don’t you realize what it means to be a Size-Shifter? When I learn how to increase my size, there’s nothing that will stop me from bringing justice to my people. I’ll be able to swallow up an army in one gulp! I’m going to be the best soldier ever! And a soldier doesn’t waste time acting like a fool, playing a bunch of mindless games. Let the kids do that. This monster already decided to grow up!”
Banana Hat grinned teasingly. “Yeaaaah. You’re really grown up, being so lonely you had to make up an imaginary friend to keep you company!”
“That’s it. I just decided you lose again Lord Ridex. It’s canon now.”
