I love that in the Podcast they specifically said they wanted to frame the hospital fight not as this action packed scene, but as sad. Because Joel has completely disassociated. He’s checked out because trauma can do that to a person, let’s you separate what’s happening. They said this is him burning his soul for this one girl. He’s doing what needs to be done in the same way Marlene did but while her focus was humanity, his focus is just Ellie. It’s tunnel vision. He kills anyone who is a threat and even if they drop their weapon, they could change their mind and still shoot him and then Ellie dies. He doesn’t kill the doctor until he becomes a threat by wielding the scalpel. And them saying Marlene actually signed her death warrant the moment she said “let me go” because it meant she planned to try and survive her wound. There would be a tomorrow and in that tomorrow, she would try and come after them. So of course she had to die because her living meant Ellie wouldn’t be safe.

#who needs a mommy when you got a tommy #the first time shes does this its preschool teacher maria’s idea #shes four and mothers day is coming up and its usually a hard time for her so joel lets maria know just in case she has any behavioral issue #miss maria is like 🫡 i gotchu #she makes sure to emphasize to the kids that families are all different #they spend every day of may leading up to mother day reading books exploring diversity in families and talking about what mom really means #that it doesnt have to be the person who had you in their tummy or a girl or even a person we call mom #for example miss maria’s real mommy wasnt so nice growing up so miss marias TRUE mommy is just her daddy and her auntie rose #because those are the people that loved her no matter what and kept her safe and taken care of and fed #thats all mom is #it just means someone thats there for you every day and loves you and cares for you #someone who is one of your favorite people and who would say the same about you #all the kids go around and say who they think are their moms #mosy say some iteration of ‘mommy’ and ‘mama’ or ‘grammy’#but then baby ellie says ‘tess and auntie marlene’#and baby sarah says ‘uncle thommy’#one of the other littles says ‘daddy and miss maria’ 😭#and they all make heart cards for their mommy firgures #they cant write or really read anything but a few letters yet #(even though hyperlexic baby sarah does have pretty incredible letter recognition for her age)#so they tell miss maria what to write on their cards and then decorate with oil pastels #sarah’s says dear uncle tommy thank you for being my mommy you are so funny and i love when we play horsey and princesses. happy mommy day #when he picks her up at the end of the day shes like HI MOMMMMM all giggly and hes like ????? hi???? whats this???? marauders ice hockey headcanons i have and need to get off my chest:

James is the youngest on the team and was drafted last for his team, his dream is to eventually get drafted into NHL if he's lucky

When Sirius was first drafted he insisted Remus be drafted to and refused to join until Remus was

Remus became their designated team goalie after one match as he wasn't afraid to injure himself to keep the other team from scoring

Barty has been on time out the most out of everyone and is the most aggressive on the team

Marlene and Evan are both the fastest players and typically team up on whoever has the puck on the opposite team to fuck with them

James is by far the strongest and has flipped someone on the ice before—on accident, sort of

Their team colours are black and red

Marlene tends to get a lot of shit for being the only girl but not only do the boys stand up for her when this happens, but she has been known to get very physical with anyone twice her size or not for talking shit

Their after parties when they win are INSANE

James was a bit of a player the first couple years of playing since their University was very proud and supportive of their team, but then he met Regulus and he immediately forgot anyone else he had been seeing

Frank Longbottom is the team captain

Their jersey numbers are: Sirius - 17, Marlene - 24, James - 13, Evan - 21, Remus - 33, Barty - 69 (obviously)

Sirius was trained in figure skating before ice hockey, as was Regulus, so his warm ups tend to be spins and speeding round the rink

The fights usually start because someone has hit or tackled Remus and the entire team will turn on that other player if this happens

Speaking of, Sirius has targeted players for hitting Remus in the past

James always blows a kiss to Regulus before a match

Marlene has Dorcas' lucky number as her jersey number

Evan is the best at skidding on the ice to stop

Barty tends to skid a lot on the ice to tackle people

Barty has also lost a tooth to a fight on the ice—he was proud of it
