I wonder why each little bird has someone to sing to, sweet things to, a gay little love melody (*´∀`)♪🎶
This drawing is a little celebration for Crowley’s card that will be dropping soon on the 19th! The lyric above is from Sleeping Beauty 🎶 Crowley and Lilia give me the vibes of those older couples who always like to dance or sing along to music, no matter how bad or good they may be at it. The Magical Gramophone is in the background, which can apparently play any song from memory. What song would they listen to? 🤔
(More headcanons and reference image credits below the cut! ^_^)
Ever since the Crowley-Levan theory became more well known, I heard many say that it meant that there would be potential romantic undertones (past or present) between Crowley and Lilia, and…I genuinely thought that was part of the appeal! 。゚(゚´ω`゚)゚。 Levan theory or not, I really like them. What is their ship name? Crowlilia?? If anyone knows, please let me know!🐦‍⬛🦇 Crowlilia nation where are you…
I don’t really think about headcanon stuff that often, so I thought it would be fun to think of some random headcanons as I went along with the drawing!
It would be fun if Crowley had feathers on his body that are usually covered up by his suit (I absolutely adore Falin from Dungeon Meshi). I see some incredible JP artists draw Crowley with these puffier sort of pants, which I also love. I think it would be interesting if Crowley had a sort of greyed-pale, slight splotchy purple and yellow skin tone, like a deceased body that has reached the pallor mortis stage? (*゚▽゚*) It causes an uncanny and uncomfortable feeling whenever most students look at him…there’s just something wrong with him and no one wants to ask NAJXJSJD (I’d like to think that it’s blot related, and his long-term exposure to it has Not Been Good for him 💀)
For Lilia, I think he deserves some bat-like ears ^_^ I imagine him to have scars all over due to his past as a General. I ended up drawing his torso and legs less as thin as they are in canon by accident, but I kept it because I think he’d have a better diet now than his General days as well! (*゚▽゚*) I am jealous of Lilia,,,I’d like to dance with Crowley! (● ˃̶͈̀ロ˂̶͈́)੭ꠥ⁾⁾
I’m really no good at thinking of relationship headcanons haha, so I’d love to hear everyone’s ideas about them! Even though their silliness would technically be combined in a relationship, I feel like Crowley and Lilia could balance each other out? Despite all the antics they would certainly get up to, there’s a mutual acknowledgment of each other’s life experience and age. I can imagine them idly talking about parts of their own pasts over tea or a stroll in nice weather…maybe not huge chunks of backstory, but just little moments from their long lifespan that has stuck with them since. Crowley could potentially become more responsible because he’d be fretting over Lilia’s gaming time ANJDJXBD. Crowley would absolutely eat Lilia’s cooking and to him it would taste good…crows/ravens can eat pretty much anything like meat, berries, garbage and carrion so I don’t think Crowley would be upset about the chopped liver randomly inserted into his meal 😭 Even if they don’t really look it, to me they really give off the vibes of the typical image of an older couple! 🤣🐦‍⬛🦇

Here's why I personally believe Taylor Swift is a lesbian 🤍
Many see her as bisexual and that's absolutely fine! She could be but I personally see her as a lesbian (and that's coming from someone who's bi) because from what I've seen of all her male relationships it just seems... off? I can't exactly put my finger on it but the way she acts with Travis for example is more of a "hey look how happy I am with a man! I can be happy with a man!" instead of genuine happiness. If it is genuine then that's absolutely incredible and I'm happy for her but that's just the vibes I get from it all.
While with women it's pure, ecstatic joy and happiness all over. She glowed when she was with Karlie, her smile was brighter, her eyes shined more. You could feel the warmth they gave each other.
There's so many songs to reference about her being with/loving a woman (i.e. dress, ivy, maroon, etc)
I'm sure I don't have to point out all the sapphic lyrics in her songs but I did want to point out in her new album, TTPD a lot of songs are sort of like "I'm straight, see?" while simultaneously having queer undertones or outright not making sense unless they were gay.
Big example is But Daddy I love Him & Guilty as Sin? These two reference religion repercussions of being in a forbidden/not socially accepted relationship which if you're familiar with the queer community and religion trauma you'll know exactly that would be code for. Honestly it isn't even code.
Back to why I don't believe she's bisexual though. Aside from how she acts with men, she often refers to them as "Ken's" (Ken in the Barbie world is often seen as just an accessory to Barbie, not important or relevant as she is) or something that isn't personal. Every time someone's mentioned that's personal and loved it's almost always non gendered pronouns. She's never spoke of a man the way she has a woman.
If you disagree that’s completely okay! We gaylors are in this together so no hate to anyone<3 If you agree and have more to add absolutely feel free to do so!

Sword gays showdown preliminaries
Propaganda:
For Kazuma Asogi:
ok so he’s not CANONICALLY queer but it’s ace attorney. so… he does, however, canonically have a katana! a sword so integral to the plot it gives me shivers just thinking about it. the sword also has a name, it’s karuma (translates roughly to karma) and it gets passed onto the main character, ryunosuke naruhodo (who he calls partner), after kazuma (spoiler alert) dies in case 1-2. except (SUPER spoiler alert!) he isn’t dead! he comes back in case 2-3 and would you look at that he has ANOTHER SWORD, a more european sword (cause he ended up in england after his amnesia brain said he REALLY had to go to england). once he gets his memories back, ryunosuke gives karuma back to him and proceeds to use it to destroy the wax figure of his dead presumed serial killer dad (long story), and now he has, you guessed it, TWO SWORDS! for the next two cases he wears both swords at his sides, and also he broke the tip off of karuma attempting to murder someone (he didn’t actually murder anyone but still) and then turns out karuma’s hilt has the REAL serial killer’s will in it. very VERY important sword. in the end, kazuma gives karuma back to ryunosuke which is really symbolic but that’s besides the point, and they cross swords and it’s a whole big thing. 10/10 gay sword guy.
For Raiden:
Man catches knives with his heels and uses a sword to cut through robots 20 times his size
He's such a tragic character! Raised to be a super soldier from birth and is constantly being exploited by the government. As for the lgbt part him and his rival in the latest game he's in have so much tension it's unreal (gay). I headcanon him as trans too because he has a feminine figure, his voice gets more masculine as the series goes on (testosterone) and his entire body gets replaced with cybernetics (trans allegory...)
For Claudine Saijou:
Fights with a longsword! Should be number 1 for this line alone: “For heroes, there are trials. For saints, there are temptations. For me, there is you”, said to def not her girl crush but rival btw (stream Revue of Soul) Vote for my disaster theatre kid its what she deserves!
Her gay levels are off the charts. She has a homoerotic rivalry with another classmate (Maya Tendo/Tendou Maya) that is integral to her character, as she was always first until she met Maya. She’s also half-French, but that’ll be important later. When she’s looking at pictures of Maya stretching (to study her form of course) and another character asks her what she’s looking at, she panics, blushes, and says none of your business. Her and Maya have a heartfelt conversation while stretching with Claudine’s face pressed into Maya’s chest (between her stomach and breasts). Some art from a magazine has Maya pushing Claudine into a deep stretch, but it looks like something a lot different (Claudine blushing doesn’t help. Also I realized that there’s a lot of gay stuff related to stretching with these two).
During a two on two duel (I know it’s not a duel), they fight together. Not only that, but at one point they hold hands and take a pose typical of romantic partners in dancing. For no reason. They just pause and do it to show off. They aren’t even fighting. Anyways, when they lose, Claudine starts crying, not because she lost, but because Maya lost. So, of course, Maya starts speaking to her in French, with one of the things she says being “You’re cute even when you cry, my Claudine.” All of this is stuff that’s happened in the series (except the magazine thing).
Now for the gay stuff in the movie. Their duel with each other is so dense with sapphic undertones they can hardly be called undertones. For starters, the song that accompanies this revue is called “A Beautiful Person, or Perhaps it is.” While this title is incomplete, the director states that he wanted the watcher to fill it in and this removed the end of the original title. That title is “A Beautiful Person, or Perhaps it is a Love Song.” The duel is framed as a fight between a hero (Maya) and a devil (Claudine). Maya is in an outfit reminiscent of Renaissance Italy and Claudine is in a suit. Thus, Maya signs a contract giving her soul over to Claudine, as is the case with marriage. With her own blood, in the shape of Position Zero (an important symbol in the show), which happens to look like a T, for Tendou. After a few minutes of fighting, Maya disappears and monologues, appearing in a white dress. This means that Maya has signed her soul over to Claudine, and they are now both wearing a white dress and suit. Not beating the gay marriage allegations. Maya finished her monologue with “For heroes, there are trials. For saints, there are temptations. For me, there is a devil.” They continue to fight, Maya proclaiming herself emotionless and empty. Maya then cuts the medallion from Claudine’s chest (they wear medallions and you lose the duel if it gets cut off).
Claudine falls. Maya attempts to claim victory by stabbing her sword into Position Zero, which is then covered by steel doors. Claudine sits up and reveals she has another medallion in her mouth, which she does by sticking out her tongue in a uhhhh. Anyways, after a bit of back and forth, Claudine tells Maya that she’s full of arrogance and pride and envy and longing. She then says that “No matter how many times I die, I will revive! Tendou Maya! To beat you, my rival, into submission!” She then makes her stage entrance, taking Maya’s usual entrance speech and mocking it. She also says “I fill myself with exploding passion, now, and bash it into your heart!” After some talking, Maya makes her stage entrance, taking Claudine’s usual entrance speech and mocking it. Up until now, they have been playing characters, but still letting their own emotions shine through. Now, they are entirely themselves.
They begin to fight again, running downs white aisle before clashing swords, with Maya saying “Such an ugly, emotion drenched appearance-“ and is cut off by Claudine, who says “Show me more, Tendou Maya! Right now, you’re the cutest you’ve ever been!” To which Maya responds “I’m always cute!”  The song starts up again (duels are accompanied by songs), with Maya singing “With a grin of deception I’ll tear this piece of cloth.” Deception in Japanese is mayakashi, a reference to Maya’s name. Maya then sings “I want to show you my feelings becoming dyed in black.” Black is Kuro in Japanese. Claudine, in Katakana, is Kurodine, with her nickname being Kuro, so that line could also be interpreted “I want to show you my feelings becoming dyed in you.” Claudine then sings “Only me, always, forever,” before they sing in unison “You only need to look at me,” as they lock blades. Some fighting happens and they’re falling through the sky, holding onto each others clothes and Claudine says “Only I can make you lay everything bare!” To which Maya responds “I’ll expose my everything, on the stage!” Claudine shoots back with “There’s a partner you can expose everything to, on the stage!” At this point, there’s a short time with independent vocals for Maya and Claudine in addition to their talking. Maya has been singing “If I’m on the stage, if I’m in front of you,” for the last two lines of dialogue. Claudine sings “Be it ugly or beautiful,” as Maya sings “I will expose, anything and everything, all of me, all of me.” As this happens, Maya is saying “We love the stage,” which is continued by Claudine saying “And we can’t part from the stage!” Maya calls them both “Pathetic clowns!” To which Claudine corrects “No, rivals!” Maya says “If you’re there, I have to strive higher!” Claudine says “You make me even more beautiful! Maya!” Maya then yells “Claudine!” Claudine yells “For heroes, there are trials!” Maya continues “For saints, there are temptations!” Then, as one, their swords crossed, faces inches from each other, yell “For me, there is you!” Over top of this, their voices sing a line in unison: “Forever and ever, I’d like to cross swords with you.”
Claudine’s sword stabs through the contract, through the Position Zero in blood, which may be Maya’s family name, and Maya says as an aside “Saijou Claudine… You are beautiful.” Claudine cuts the medallion from Maya’s chest, finally beating her rival.

Queer music with trans undertones.
That's a topic that I've only breached recently. Call me a little baby queer, but I never knew the wealth of cool music done by very cool people before this. There's a wide range of genres and different types of lyrics to go along with it. In this post, I'll focus down on music that I personally like. It may not be for you and that's perfectly understandable.
Glass Beach is a very cool band and their first album, while unrefined, has 2 songs in particular which I'm obsessed with.
youtube
Bedroom community is such a fun song and really holds true to much of my life experiences throughout my life. Because I live in an environment that does its best to isolate queer folk, that meant that the only way I could explore my gender identity and my sexual preferences was through the internet. And while not the point of the song, the song really gets me pumped up to be an annoying blasphemous little gremlin to all the nasty christo-fasc out there.
youtube
This song brings me to tears every time. The lyrics are just insanely personal and I think many trans femmes could connect with this song. Being misgendered by your peers and especially your family. Needing a desperate escape. Tackling with adulthood. The little holiday feeling of getting your HRT. It's much. It's so much. I'm bursting into tears even as I type this out. This song is so powerful. I can't help it! It's a song about me! Just for me and me alone! It's so personal aa!
youtube
While this song doesn't bring the same reaction from me, the lyrics and the melody is so melancholic and it's such a wonderful song. One of their later and more "mature" works as a band. It's great.
Now I'll do some randomly assorted different artists. I haven't explored their music as deeply as Plastic Beach. But these songs are a highlight for me. And I'm usually a really chaotic listener anyway.
youtube
This song is simple but it rocks. While I'm a gender conforming and very woman identifying trans femme, I'm also aware of the absurdity of the gender binary. And I think that even someone like me is inherently confusing and terrifying to the social systems that uphold this nonsensical binary. This song is a good way to remind ourselves how absurd and pointless our divide between "males" and "females" is not based around chromosomes or other confused markers but purely on cultural indicators of identity.
youtube
This song's lyrics are wonderful. It kind of reflects my recent posts on Tumblr and my frustration on weirdo internet people obsessed with my genitals and being creeps. Because bigotry is creepy and weird. The chorus of this song is especially really good and I find myself humming it along sometimes.
youtube
I'm not into ska, but I really enjoy this song in particular from this genre. The lyrics are fun and the theme of breaking apart and mixing gender identities is fun. It's a fun song. Because once gender stops being used as an authoritarian tool to enforce a binary, it can be fun finding the way to express yourself.
This is some of the stuff I've discovered recently. I think the main reason I'm making this post is a bit more of a serious and grim topic that I've touched upon a bit. I live in the Balkans and I live in a city that's infamous for street fights and toxic masculinity. You can imagine that being a trans femme, even if I pass well, still sets me up for a bunch of dangers. My country's politicians are conservative enough to the point that any idea of rights to LGBT folk isn't even considered, with concepts of queerness being considered a "threat" to the "traditional" family structure. Of course, all of this is a bunch of nonsense.
But it means that spaces for queer people are difficult to find. Apparently people congregate on Facebook, but Facebook where I live at is essentially Twitter. I'm not interested in torturing myself with that. That's left me feeling very isolated. I've recently actually tried to join some local Discord servers, but they were overwhelmingly dominated by cis gay men that seem to only be interested in sex. That's just not for me.
I think listening to music like this helps me feel less alone and more hopeful for the future. If anyone out there is dealing with the same loneliness I am, please find music that reflects your feelings. You'll feel a bit better about the world, knowing that you're not alone and your ideas aren't as foreign as you think.
You're wonderful.
You're valid.
And you're rad as heck.
Queer, trans, non-binary, non-conforming and any fun mixture of sexual orientation. You're the best!

I don’t know if anyone noticed this before, but you know how Vox makes venison during his song when he roasts Alastor:
Tumblr media
You know, this scene?
Well isn’t it weird that Vox prepares raw venison on TV, broadcasted for literally everyone to see when I think it’s common knowledge that Alastor’s favorite food is raw venison.
Tumblr media
So like, why is Vox preparing Alastor’s favorite food in front of entire Pentagram City? I know that since Alastor is a deer, he’s probably trying to make a point of how he’s stronger etc, but like really? You’re telling me that Vox - the guy who’s so unbelievably obsessed with Alastor, to the point of losing his shit the second he heard about him reappearing - didn’t know that venison is Alastor’s favorite food? Because I think he knows all too well. It’s very silly, but I honestly think that Vox’s obsession may have some romantic undertones. Like we know that he’s gay. Was he in love with Alastor? Does he still have a crush on him? I mean, Vox has so much more power and influence and yet, the second Alastor appeared he had to jump on every TV in Hell to scream a about how “I’m better than you!” accompanied by 5000 ad hominems. That’s... too petty for just business rivalry, especially since Alastor literally doesn’t have a business. Alastor said that Vox invited him to join his team, but Vox’s team are literally in a polyamorous relationship. Since Alastor is asexual he probably never even figured out that Vox wanted him as a partner - not business partner, but a romantic one. So when he refused, he probably felt like he was just refusing some dumb business opportunity, but Vox had a much different thing on his mind. He doesn’t look like a guy who accepts no as an answer and since Alastor is stronger than him, he can’t even come on top. No wonder that he’s so mad at him, if it did play out like that. But he still wants him as well. What a petty little TV man.
I need to know what the hell happened between these two and if my theory is correct. I’m so excited for season 2, I’m hoping that we get more of their relationship and past. Stayed gone was such a good song!

Friends to Lovers Tournament: Quarterfinals, Match 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
propaganda under the cut!
Makoharu:
They are the first ship that comes to mind when I think of friends to lovers. I know Free! hasn't been popular since 2013, bug I just love them so much... Makoto's devotion to Haru. There's even a movie that flashes back to when they're kids when Makoto says "I love swimming and I love Haruka". Soft...
Fuyupoly:
Submission 1:
they're from the winter troupe of the mankai company, and unlike the other troupes they're all adults. that said, they all have varying degrees of trauma and emotional stuntedness. it takes them some time to fully open up to each other bc they're all very cautious of each other's boundaries and don't want to cross any lines which initially led to some issues in the group's formation. over time they've learned to bridge the gap while still being mindful of hard boundaries. at one point they have a discussion about what exactly their relationship is (gay) cuz they were talking about how the other troupes have clearly defined dynamics (spring=family, summer=besties, autumn=rivals & teammates) but they don't,, and homare deadass says they're "people bound by a common destiny" which in and of itself sounds very Gay (like why are you as a man bound to other men by a common destiny), but it goes even further because homare starts spouting WEDDING VOWS: "In sickness and in health, for better or for worse, we shall share our laughter and our tears as those with an intertwined fate... How beautiful we are!" THIS IS A DIRECT QUOTE FROM THE GAME AND THE MC EVEN REMARKS "i can already hear wedding bells in the distance..."
gradually they become closer, in individual sub-units based on who's paired up as co-leads for a play, and as a troupe overall. also two of its members are childhood friends who had a messy 'divorce' in their young adulthood and it took the game breaking its genre to introduce a timeloop for them to finally make up if that means anything to you. one of their troupe songs "precious to us ~bokura no kisetsu" has some pretty beautiful and fruity lines: "The many kindnesses born in me here / Never fail to breathe life into my chest / Even all the pain and bitterness / Have now become dear to me (Ah…Stay with me)", "No matter how many times our season passes / Let us keep living together / Holding our hands, without ever letting go / Let us open up the curtain of tomorrow", "There is no need for words, because once our gazes meet / Joy sparks a light in your eyes", "Our journey, may it be a brilliant one / As our breaths overlap as one"
a lot of their plays has a LOT of homoerotic tension between the two leads too. their first play has tsumugi and tasuku play angels, and it's heavily implied that tasuku's character has an unrequited crush on tsumugi's character. their third play has azuma play a vampire and tasuku play Just Some Guy and it's generally agreed in the fandom to be one of the gayest, if not THE gayest, play A3 has ever written. obviously the vampire thing is very fruity, but there's also how the vampire was longing to bite the human but was holding himself back, and when the vampire left the human in the end, the human was absolutely HEARTBROKEN over it and was swearing they would reunite one day. the stage play of this takes it even further by having the vampire embrace the human from behind and BITE his neck. the fourth play is a watered-down adaptation of Phantom of the Opera where they genderbend Christine into Chris among other things and change the relationship between Chris and the Phantom to one of friendship.... ostensibly so, because there's still a lot of homoerotic undertones in their interactions. i could go on but this should be enough of a sampling taste
Submission 2:
the writers rlly said "let's take 2 normal guys who are childhood friends and have been into theatre since their school days and have them go through a pre-canon messy divorce, an eccentric poet with a potentially controversial haircut, an amnesiac sleepyhead who can only be awoken with marshmallows but is also somehow extremely athletic despite doing nothing but sleeping and eating marshmallows all day, a man who is so beautiful and mysterious he breaks gender, and a supposed android from a fictional south asian country, and throw them into a blender, oh and for good measure let's throw in some theatre and angst and gay and angst and gay" and the end result was marriage. i mean it took them a lot of awkward fumbling around and conflicts to get there but they got there and thats what matters. ok *technically* in-text they're all rlly good friends and kinda found family BUT they are found family via marriage papers i do not make the rules chief
Submission 3:
The reason why they are so friends-to-lovers to me is because their relationship is founded on quiet and unconditional acceptance of each other—regardless of how flawed they may be or how heavy their burdens and trauma may be. When the troupe first formed (sans Guy who was in another country at the time), they didn’t have any major clashing personalities at the very beginning and generally they were mindful of each other’s boundaries, unlike the other troupes that came before them. However, it’s BECAUSE they were too mindful of said boundaries that it was difficult for them to break down their walls and bond as a team—and there were a LOT of walls to break down, as all of them had varying degrees of emotional baggage and trauma.
In fact, it’s only three plays in that they finally truly start opening up to each other, with Azuma getting the ball rolling by opening up about the deep loneliness that haunted him ever since his childhood. It’s during this conversation that they also discuss what their relationship as a troupe is, because the other troupes have defined their relationship as a team (Spring is family, Summer is best friends, Autumn is rivals & teammates), and Homare goes on to declare that they’re “people bound by a common destiny” and goes on to spew wedding vows: "In sickness and in health, for better or for worse, we shall share our laughter and our tears as those with an intertwined fate... How beautiful we are!" I mean… it can’t get any more obvious than this, really. They are married.
But anyway, Tsumugi says he wants their relationship to be one where while they respect each other’s need for space, they’ll also be there for each other and share their pains and burdens—or in his words: “supporting each other when our burdens become too heavy to bear on our own”—which I think is really sweet because it carries this idea of quiet, unconditional acceptance; they don’t push each other to share more than they’re comfortable with sharing, but with whatever they ARE comfortable with sharing everyone carries the load and pain because pain is easier to bear when you’re not bearing it alone <3
A later part of the story focuses on Hisoka, a mysterious amnesiac, being terrified of regaining his memories and facing some “sin” from his past that has led to another character, Chikage, trying to take revenge on him. When he confesses this to the rest of the Winter troupe, Homare asks, “How heavy is this sin you bear?” and Azuma suggests, “Perhaps it’s just heavy enough for the five of us to carry together.” (at this point Guy hasn’t joined yet). The stage play adapts this scene into a song called Key to Memory. The key (pun unintended) part is 1:27 where there’s a back-and-forth between Hisoka and the other Winter troupe members (sans Tasuku because he wasn’t in that particular play)
Hisoka: “I’m scared…”
Tsumugi, Homare, Azuma: “It’s okay.”
Hisoka: “My unforgivable sin…”
Tsumugi, Homare, Azuma: “Let’s carry it together.”
Hisoka: “I might not be me anymore.”
Tsumugi, Homare, Azuma: “It’s all right. We understand and we accept you, so let’s go together.”
And it ends with Hisoka singing: “I was afraid to open the door of my locked memories. But if everyone is here, I believe I can do it.”  In both the game and stage play, Hisoka fully regains his memories and reconciles with Chikage (long story). He tells Fuyupoly he can’t go into detail about his past with Chikage because it’s dangerous but he’ll tell them when the time is right, and they accept this saying that no matter what his past is, they know and love him as their Hisoka which obviously is a very sweet thing for friends to say, but it’s also very Marriage-coded to me.
Later, Guy is introduced as an android from Zahra (a fictional South Asian country) and joins the Winter troupe as a temporary member—because he’s stuck in Japan for the foreseeable future—until they find a permanent member to replace him. The other Winter members have a conversation among themselves and agree that regardless of whether he’s really an android or a human they’ll accept Guy for who he is and help him improve his acting, which again harkens back to the idea of ‘unconditional acceptance’. Eventually it’s revealed that Guy is in fact a human who has forgotten his memories of the past and his emotions. He recovers his memories all at once which shocks his system and causes him to pass out. When he wakes up in his room, he finds the rest of the Winter Troupe asleep around the room—which I believe is symbolic of their whole theme of “quiet acceptance”: they don’t want to push Guy to share beyond what he’s comfortable with, but they’re always there to listen to him and share his load if that’s what he wants. He opens up about the memories he recovered, and they don’t treat him with pity like he’s a lost child, but still extend gentle empathy and understanding. They also emphasise that it genuinely doesn’t matter to them whether he’s human or android because he’s Guy first and foremost. It’s at this point that Guy truly lets himself become part of the Winter troupe/Fuyupoly and not just as a temporary stand-in member, because he’s found a place where he’s found himself again and people who will accept who this “himself” is, whether that be an android devoid of emotions or a human brimming with vivid beautiful emotions.
[Mod note: There’s a LOT more but we’re afraid of crashing the post. I (Deli) summarised it the best I can since I’m familiar with A3, but if you want to read the full thing you can check it out on this google doc)

I was just looking at the comments on 911’s official insta after the episode and goddamn some people are butthurt over The Kiss That Broke The Fandom™️. They’re over there talking about “Buck’s always been straight” and “you’ve ruined the character/show”. Let me just make two things very clear.
1. Clearly, we haven’t been watching the same show, because I can assure you that Buck was very much Not Straight™️ at any point. There’s been undertones of this since season 1, and even if it wasn’t there in s1, it was definitely there in s2. Literally the first episode, when Eddie joins? The song playing in the background is Whatta Man. Y’know, the Salt-N-Pepa love song? Yeah. This has been at the very least hinted at for, like, six years now. If you didn’t see it…sounds like a you problem, besties.
2. If you honest to God think a kiss between two canonically queer fictional characters ruins a show, there’s a very simple solution. Pick up your TV remote, open the channel guide, and find something else to watch. I know it sounds complicated, but it’s three tiny little steps that’ll make everyone’s lives easier. You won’t have to see the “icky gay stuff”, and we don’t have to put up with your bitching and moaning about a kiss between fictional people. It’s a win for everyone! Please get out of our fandom, we don’t want you here! 🥰

10. it's time to go
11. gold rush
12. evermore (feat. Bon Iver)
13. marjorie
14. willow
15. no body, no crime (feat. Haim)
16. tolerate it
19. long story short
This is NOT a long story short I have a lot of thoughts about evermore my favourite child so they are under the cut
I mean I don’t even know how to begin talking about evermore. It’s my favourite Taylor album and one of my favourite albums ever. It’s so sad and weird and gay (to ME).
Folklore is obviously it’s sister album but I do feel like they are quite distinct from each other as well. For me evermore is very clearly part two of this story/universe, it developed and deepens the themes presented at the end of folklore.
For me folklore is about the ‘hope of it all’, clinging onto nostalgia and could have beens. Whereas evermore is very much about endings, about retracing every step looking for a way you could have changed the ending.
But the ending has already happened, the moment is gone and so the only choice is to relive and retell the ending over and over until it makes any sense.
right where you left me is my favourite Taylor song currently in existence, I also feel like it and little evermore are both really successful at encapsulating the albums themes, about when to hold on and when to let go.
And I love that while it’s time to go… can on the surface feel definitive, I actually think the ending of the song leaves it open to interpretation whether she actually goes or not.
Even long story short, which is fun and boppy on first listen, has darker undertones to me, especially in the way she sings ‘I survived’ the last time.
Also it’s funny because cowboy like me was not really on my radar for a while until someone (I think maybe @midnightslesbian) posted about interpreting it as a sad song, that the relationship in it doesn’t work out and ever since it’s been one of my favourites!!
It feels very much like an album about deep grief and being unable to move on from someone/something that changed you forever.
I could honestly go on and on and I will but yeah evermore now evermore forever she’s my sad baby and I love her <3

I just saw Barbie and that's your problem now (spoilers)
Dude. I. What the fuck (positive)
I just saw Barbie and bloody hell how did this movie ever get approved by Mattel (positive)
SPOILERS. LOOK AWAY IF YOU DON'T WANT SPOILERS. KEEP SCROLLING IF YOU WISH FOR THIS MOVIE TO REMAIN UNSPOILED.
For contex, "Barbie" singular refers to margot robbie, the main character. "barbies" plural refers to background/side characters. I understand why this movie broke ryan gosling.
Ok play by play:
I walk into the theatre, popcorn in hand. The isles are filled with pink. I am wearing pink. the lights dim. Its showtime
Primitive children play with primitive dolls. barbie appears. i wonder if David Attenborough directed this part of the movie
Present day barbie. Stuff from the trailers. hi barbie hi barbie hi barbie. Oh wait the song is the narrator that kinda cool
5 minutes in and its Trailers trailers trailers. I've seen maybe 5 lines of non-trailer dialogue
The "beach you off" joke goes right over my head. I still don't know if there was a joke there
dance time. holy shit the mood of summer (do you ever think about dying) happend real fast. Nice save Barbie
sour milk and flat feet
jesus christ we're at weird barbie's already. this is the plot I know from the trailers but we still have like an hour and 20 minutes left
Weird barbie made a dick joke. The theater erupts. they were not expecting that.
don't laugh at the sex joke don't laugh at the sex joke you are with your parents don't laugh at the sex joke.
Mmmmmk barbie in the real world. The undertone of violence during catcalling is addressed. yay!
Barbie loudly and bluntly announces that she does not have a vagina and that ken does not have a penis. They do not have genitals. The crowd goes wild. They expected that less.
In the spen of 2 minutes Barbie gets arrested. barbie gets objectified by police officers. Barbie gets the cowgirl suit. barbie gets arrested. Barbie gets objectified by police officers. Barbie gets released by police officers
barbie has meditation time and discovers the girl
ken takes a walk and discovers that the world is run by men
barbie and ken go to school. Barbie gets burned roasted eviscerated by sara (the girl whos been playing with her) and runs away crying. Ken discovers the patriarchy
Barbie gets discovered by mattel. Barbie gets chased through mattel HQ
The girl and her mom save barbie and go back to barbie land. it was actually the mom who played with barbie and made her because she was sad about her daughter being a dicky teenager.
ken has taken over barbie land
ken has instated the patriarchy into barbie land. the barbies are brainwashed into being mindless servants. the dreamhouses are now for the kens.
Barbie has a breakdown. Mom daughter go to leave barbie land
Barbie is rescued by weird barbie and taken to her house, the base of a resistance??? other brainwashed barbies are there. Weird barbie now wears grenades. Discontinued barbies and weird barbies are trying to unbrainwash brainwashed barbies. It is not working. Barbie is still having a breakdown.
Gay as hell ken exists
Mom and daughter are back. Barbie cries about how she isnt pretty and "stereotypical barbie" anymore. The air is thick and uncomfortable. The narrator announces that margot robbie was not the right person to deliver that line. tension dissolved (for now)
Mom goes into long and heartfelt rant about the patriarchy and expectations of women and jesus christ is rocked me to my core it was like every feminist tumblr post compiled into the perfect monologue about the struggles of being a woman in the best way possible. I can feel the uncomfortable men in the room. I can also feel the men in the room who are sad for women. you could hear a pin drop. The barbies become unbrainwashed as they realize the patriarchy sucks. Barbie is back.
Barbie and friends have mom give more (unheard ;-;) speeches and unbrainwash the other barbies in a way that calls out how men view women and sexist media tropes.
Holly shit is ken the villain of this movie
Barbies turn kens against each other so they forget about voting to change the constitution. Yes.
Kens have a war over barbies. They do not have weapons. Ryan gosling sings a power ballad. The kens unite.
The kens confront the barbies. President barbie drops a motherfucker bomb censored with a mattel logo. The crowd once again goes wild. Some of us go feral. I went feral.
Lost of deep conversations about the patchirarchy and sexisim and beuty standards and holly shit I though this was going to be a kids film but its almost unhinged kiss me greta gerwig
A Barbie and ken romance is not the answer for barbie or ken. Ken cannot compute this. A Barbie and ken romance is not the answer for Barbie or ken. Ken slightly computes this.
Barbie tells ken that he's his own person and he is not defined by his girlfriend or the patriarchy or beach (his job. no there is not context). cough cough this is the movie addressing toxic masculinity and how the patriarchy harms men
Barbie does not know her ending. Barbie meets Ruth Mattel. Ruth mattel is in trouble with the IRS for committing tax evasion. deep emotional scene. barbie learns sees what it means to be human. that billie eyelash song plays. Humans only have one ending, ideas live forever. Barbie "wants to be part of the people who make ideas, not the idea"
Barbie is in a car. Beige suit. Pink Birkenstocks. The mom and the girl wish her good luck. They will be here when she's done. Barbie walks into an office building.
"name"
"handler comma Barbra" (context required but its meaningful and basically barbies human name)
"why are you here"
"I'm here to see my gynecologist"
The end. The crowd goes feral. nobody moves as we wonder what the fuck just happened. We cheer.
Being the true Margot Robbie Stan that I am, I rise from my seat and think "what a ride"
I exit the theatre, grinning ear to ear. Perplexed. But grinning ear to ear. I do not stop grinning for a long time.
As I exit the theatre, me and my fellow movie-goers look at each other with a sense of fear, happiness, and that feeling when you wake up from a fever dream. I doubt I will sleep tonight as my brain processes this movie. I still don't really know what happened to Barbie. I'm perfectly ok with that.
Overall the trailers greatly mislead people and this movie was a wild feminist, feminist, feminist ride in the most fantabulous way possible. It touches on most social issues, makes fucking hilarious jokes, Barbie has several breakdowns and it truly feels like a giant "fuck you" to the patriarchy with Mattel's branding. Written by women, directed by women, produced by women. its perfect. It's not the most sophisticated piece of feminist media but its pretty fucking close and definitely the best mainstream one.
Hating the Barbie movie should replace hating cats as a red flag.
I loved it and I'm still processing it but it was great. Also how was something like this allowed to happen in hollywood. I don't care. it happened and It was perfect. I loved it and I'm making plans to see it again.

it’s ok to have bad opinions about michael bubbly’s santa buddy. just bc you’re hot ill forgive you this time
batting this one right back to you babe. michael buble's santa buddy is one of the greatest song covers ever done (btw the song is still called santa baby he just changes the lyrics inconsistently to santa buddy. it's like he's correcting himself on the spot. the lyrics are inconsistently heterosexual. like his first thought is to be gay and he has to correct himself. it's a performance of heterosexuality with homoerotic undertones. it's a guy singing a song about being horny for santa with the laziest mask ever slapped over top of it. santa buddy. santa baby. santa pally. santa poppy. "i'll wait up for you dude"????? this song is a study in performed heterosexual masculinity, a study in platonic relationships between straight men. straight guys do not leave the verse "Think of all the fun I've missed, Think of all the hotties that I haven't kissed, Next year I could be just as good, If you check off my Christmas list' almost completely unchanged. there's something happening to michael buble and it has nothing to do with his wife and children.)

i made the first music playlist video
thoughts and explanations under the cut (i suggest you watch/listen to the video first)
Happy Face - ok so i Heard this one in an animation meme and brain went straight to Micro-ice. pretty self explanatory. The guy masks his unhappiness with jokes. Like many songs in this playlist it should sound happy but has a negative undertone
I Cut Myself - this was gonna be in the Sinedd playlist but it fit Micro-ice a lot more so here it is. The songs title is very dark but the whole song is upbeat and dismissive
CARTOON NETWORK - ok i forgot why i put this one in i just thought it fit.
Nothing man- very silly song about procrastinating. However i thought it fit with Micro-ice because of his insecurities about being in the team and his own capabilities
Andy you're a star - the thing that made me start making these playlists in the first place. It screams Micro-ice and D'jok so much it's not even funny. The song is very good and makes me very emotional. Yes Microice you ARE gay for your childhood friend who's dating a girl and it IS a tragedy.
Ghosting- i thought this one was a little too obviously sad for Microice but i think he should get to feel his real emotions. Put this here as a representation of how he feels left behind in the team
I'm very bad at expressing my thoughts but hopefully you understand what I'm trying to convey with the music in the video

Currently having thoughts about how of all the major characters introduced in season one, the only three characters I can think of that do not express any sort of crush or attraction to at least two characters of the opposite gender are Will, Mike, and Jonathan (I might be wrong about Jon but I can’t think of any scenes where he does). Will is obviously gay so of course he isn’t interested in any girls, but he only shows interest in Mike which is probably because Will is actually in love with him. Jon has as far as I remember only shown interest in Nancy, so it is almost certainly a conscious decision that was made as it makes him contrast Steve being a ladies man who has gone on a lot of dates with girls.
Mike is a strange choice to me. It could be that he falls head over heels in love with El when he first sees her, but the show makes fun of that trope on a few occasions so it doesn’t really make sense. It could also be that Mike is the only kid with a “love interest” in season one so they never had the time to establish him being interested in other girls. Except El is shown finding male celebrities attractive in season three, while Mike literally makes a face when Dustin is comparing Suzie to phoebe cates. I don’t think it’s because of Mike and El being a “serious” relationship either because Joyce was dating bob during the show and Nancy was dating Steve, yet their relationships with Jon and hopper are treated seriously. It’s a really interesting choice to make here.
The funny thing is we in fact do have evidence of Mike being interested in at least two guys in the show. Will is obvious, but I do think there is genuine evidence backing up Mike having a tiny crush on or at least finding Eddie cute. Fever playing during that scene where Mike is literally staring at Eddie was a choice as the lyrics are pretty blatantly romantic in nature. Music in the show is always used deliberately and I find it really weird that they put what is unambiguously a love song over a scene that shouldn’t have any romantic undertones. Like it’s literally talking about feeling feverish when someone holds you and kisses you I don’t see how the song could be interpreted as anything else. So we have strangely romantic music playing and not only do we get a shot of Mike staring directly at Eddie while this song plays, the focus shifts so Dustin is not in focus but Mike still is. I guess it could be read as Mike looking up to him but that doesn’t explain the weird music choice. I really don’t get how else I am supposed to read this because nothing seems to make sense. Like the other scenes with Mike possibly showing interest in a guy are ambiguous enough that I personally think there’s probably another explanation that would make sense, not with the cafeteria scene though.
Anyways tldr aside from the Byers boys Mike is the only long running main character to only show interest in one person unless we consider Mike liking boys.

(excerpt from my film + lit analysis class essay on afab gender nonconformity in film specifically about she's the man 2006 and tomboy 2011)
"She’s The Man is a romantic comedy designed for an adolescent audience, and therefore starts with a high energy montage of the main character, Viola, playing soccer on the beach. It is overlaid with bright, colorful graphics showing the title credits, and set to the song “No Sleep Tonight” by The Faders. Viola, while not stereotypically feminine, is clearly a girl. She is shown to like sports, and is uncomfortable in dresses, but also wears a bikini top and short jean shorts in the opening montage, and has long hair. She only comes to the decision to present as a boy in order to impersonate her brother, Sebastian, so she can play on the boys soccer team, after the girls team is cut.
At the end of the film, she reveals herself to be female, wins the game, and goes back to living as a girl. In fact, the second to last scene shows her onstage, in a dress and makeup, making out with Duke, a fellow soccer player and her former roommate, who first met her as Sebastian.
She’s The Man has something I call ‘The Mulan Effect,’ where a film represents a character pretending to be the opposite gender without actually tackling transgender topics. In these types of films, the character has external motivation, usually hiding from, or impersonating someone, or trying to gain access to something. A key feature of films that demonstrate ‘The Mulan Effect’ is the crossdressing character returning to their original gender presentation after achieving their goal."
i think it's an interesting phenomenon because on the surface a film with the mulan effect seems to be trans or trans adjacent in nature, but when you think harder about it, it's usually not as related as it would seem. of course it's somewhat related just due to the feature of a character acting and dressing as the opposite sex, and often has loosely feminist undertones (woman just as good at fighting war as man!! gender win!) but it's about a mostly gender conforming, usually straight character (in fact, if the character isn't straight, it kinda falls into a different category than the mulan effect imo) simply putting on a disguise.
it doesn't touch on actual gender nonconformity or transgenderism beyond very superficial features of it, such as being considered strange, ugly, or wimpy by those around you. its much safer than a film actually about trans or gender nonconforming topics, because it can almost fully avoid homosexuality or transgenderism other than a sort of parody/joke on those things (this straight woman falls in love with a boy, but he's secretly a girl! must be awkward for her!). it's kinda like the bury your gays trope in that it depicts the undepictable but in a way that doesn't justify being gay or trans.
it's also like the bury your gays trope becsuse people will still identify with it when that's the only representation they're given. like if all the gay stuff you can read ends with the characters dead, you're still gonna read it just for the gay shit. if the media showing gender nonconformity and transness only shows it as either temporary (the mulan effect, the trope of a tomboy growing out of it as they get older, usually influenced by meeting a man they're attracted to and realizing they're a Woman and gotta Act Like It) or evil (all the trans serial killers, who are mostly trans women, sometimes trans men who are gangsters, mob bosses, or criminals) you're still gonna identify with the characters just because you don't have anything else showing someone who does what you do.
in a lot of media trans women are represented as evil and perverted and trans men are often not represented, or represented as a temporary issue, something done as a result of external pressures, or something that you grow out of. trans women are often ugly, strange, aggressive adults and trans men are children, also perceived as ugly and strange but overall more sympathetic. i think it's interesting and wonder how much this broad societal representation affects the way we perceive those groups even without realizing it.
it's also interesting how the way we see women vs men plays into this, as trans women are "too manly" making them adult, large, aggressive, etc. trans men are sometimes also seen as too manly, because nobody takes them seriously as a boy to begin with, so they're judged as a girl. if they are seen as a boy, they're wimpy, small, childish, and more likely to have pity taken on them. trans women embody "man traits" like thinking for themselves and making decisions, like an adult, whereas trans men embody "woman traits" by just not even being taken seriously on the same level as trans women (who are more likely to be portrayed as actually trans women, as opposed to trans masculinity, often portrayed as confused or traumatized little girls) and also being shown more often as children. they are then able to be saved by a man, and only then are able to be happy as a woman. the transphobia is just the first layer of these types of bad rep, the deeper you dig the more it seems to be misogyny. like "trans women are men so they're powerful and aggressive by nature, trans men are women and therefore they don't know what the fuck is going on, even with themselves. they need a man to come set them straight, it's not their fault". it starts to seem really fucked when you think about it.
i'm saying this after having gone thru every pre-2012 representation of trans characters in television and film (according to wikipedia) and finding Some Patterns.
i don't really know what the conclusion of this post is, but basically. trans women and trans men are both affected by misogyny. misogyny is at the root of so many things. if you're against misogyny you should be against homophobia and transphobia too. period.

Dorothea x Augustine Theory!!!
Something has been bugging me about the resolution to the folklore love triangle.
We know that Augustine doesn't end up with James, but that Taylor does think she deserves to find love in the end. What if she does?
We also don't know who Dorothea's narrator/lover is, and it seems strange to me that Taylor would leave this character completely unnamed, a complete mystery.
But who is the only other character implied to have a happy ending but who's future is left mysteriously open-ended? Augustine.
Disclaimer, I'm aware that evermore is a collection of stories independent from folklore. However, since Taylor has confirmed Dorothea and Augustine attend the same school, I'm assuming they must have known each other somehow. I'll also be explaining how Dorothea's songs from evermore and the love triangle songs from folklore are intertwined.
Buckle up because this is a long one. But it is color coded! And gay! So there's that.
Here's the evidence I've compiled for each song:
Dorothea
damn, Dorothea They all wanna be ya But are you still the same soul I met under the bleachers?
We know that this song is about a high school relationship (and likely ongoing after graduation), meaning it's fully possible for it to be from Augustine's perspective, as her fling with James only lasted for one summer.
Skipping the prom Just to piss off your mom And her pageant schemes
This line implies some sort of disapproval from Dorothea's mom of their relationship, as well as the fact that they couldn't or didn't want to go to prom together. These lines along with the meeting "under the bleachers" adds to the forbidden romance themes that definitely have queer undertones to me. This is also one of the only described relationships that walks the line between romance and friendship, adding to the queercoding.
The 1
Roaring 20s, tossing pennies in the pool And if my wishes came true It would've been you
I feel that the general consensus is that this song is about James. However, couldn't be about Betty and James, since Taylor has explained that they do stay together.
What's more, the "roaring 20's" seems incredibly inconsistent with this theory. It could mean time period, but the phrase refers to the 1920s, which doesn't make sense considering lyrics like "meet some woman on the internet." If it refers to age, it has to be about Dorothea and Augustine, since James and Augustine got together and broke up as teenagers.
Since the tone perfectly matches the mournful longing tone of the previously mentioned song, dorothea; the 1 could be a role reversal. A perspective switch of a jaded Dorothea singing about Augustine after having to leave. Here are some lyrical parallels that drive me insane:
The 1: I guess you never know, you never know
Dorothea: Oh, I guess I'll never know
The 1: I have this dream you're doing cool shit Having adventures on your own
Dorothea: You got shiny friends since you left town A tiny screen's the only place I see you now
'Tis the Damn Season
We could call it even You could call me babe for the weekend
There's so much gay in this song I'm not even sure where to start.
First off, he idea of calling their friend "babe" for the weekend has undeniably sapphic undertones to me. I mean, think about it. Straight crushes doing something like that would be seen as undeniably romantic, with none of the ambiguity and tension from the first Dorothea song. Girl friends calling each other by pet names is something that has probably been the bane of every sapphic's existence at some point. Myself included, obviously.
'Tis the damn season Write this down I'm stayin' at my parents' house
Something about taking very traditional values like the holidays, and cursing them, keeps so well with the theme of small town gays.
As for the following two lines, I don't see these being relevant to the song if not as a warning. We've already unpacked how it's very likely Dorothea's parents don't approve of her close relationship with Augustine. Later in the song, these lines add to that theme:
The holidays linger like bad perfume You can run, but only so far I escaped it too, remember how you watched me leave
Back to the chrous, this interpretation is only exacerbated with the next line:
And the road not taken looks real good now
This is line of the biggest clues to me, and for a couple of reasons. I think it's fairly apparent that the road not taken is an analogy used to describe unconventionality, and it is very often used to reference queerness in that sense. This coincides perfectly with Augustine and Dorothea's secret relationship and how others disapprove.
But this line also serves as more evidence that Augustine and Dorotheas songs are intrinsically linked. This song is very clearly sung from Dorothea's perspective. And in a song very clearly sung from Augustine's perspective, this line shows up.
Illicit Affairs: Take the road less traveled by
To me, this shows the contrast between Augustine leaving her relationship with James to entering (and re-entering) her relationship with Dorothea. James casts Augustine off to take the road by herself, to hide from society's disapproving glare. But Dorothea chooses takes that road with Augustine. Their relationship has Augustine hiding her love once again, but this time she's not alone.
There's an ache in you put there by the ache in me
The central theme in their relationship I've just explained is also very present in this line, as it is in the following song.
Exile
You're not my homeland anymore So what am I defending now? You were my town Now I'm in exile, seein' you out
This song is about Dorothea and Augustine's relationship coming to an end when Dorothea has to leave their town to pursue her dreams. While this song is sung from the perspective of two characters, assumedly representing Dorothea and Augustine, I'll focus mainly on one. From Augustine's perspective, we see her suffer through the same heartbreak that she did when her secret relationship with James came to an end, hence the lines:
I think I've seen this film before And I didn't like the ending
This song proves to me that Dorothea and the folklore love triangle must be connected, there's no denying that the lyrical parallels between Dorothea's songs and exile are unmistakable.
Exile: To pack us up and leave me with it
'Tis the Damn Season: To leave the warmest bed I've ever known
Exile: You're not my homeland anymore / You were my town
'Tis the Damn Season: It always leads to you in my hometown
Exile: Like he's just your understudy
Dorothea: And you'll go on with the show
Exile: Second, third, and hundredth chances
Dorothea: It's never too late to come back to my side
Exile: Those eyes add insult to injury
Dorothea: The stars in your eyes shined brighter in Tupelo
Exile: You didn't even hear me out
'Tis the Damn Season: Now I'm missing your smile, hear me out
Since dorothea and 'tis the damn season take place after exile, this song is here to establish the cracks that broke down their relationship in the past and how they are mended in later songs.
Gold Rush
What must it be like to grow up that beautiful? With your hair falling into place like dominoes My mind turns your life into folklore I can't dare to dream about you anymore
I'll say it, this might be the most queercoded song on the album. The theme of envious attraction, being unable to tell if you want someone or want to be them, and having to hide from your feelings all the while because you know you can never truly have a future with them... I cannot be the only one who sees it.
To me, this is about when Augustine first starts developing feelings for Dorothea. I've seen people argue that if this is connected to the folklore love triangle, that it must be Augustine singing about James. However, the only connection the evermore songs have to folklore Taylor has specified is the character of Dorothea, so it doesn't make sense for there to be an evermore track about two characters from folklore.
I don't like anticipating my face in a red flush I don't like that anyone would die to feel your touch Everybody wants you Everybody wonders what it would be like to love you
The love interest being this attractive character that everyone is drawn to makes perfect sense for Dorothea, as we know she eventually moves to Los Angeles and becomes a star.
Not only must this song be about Dorothea, but being the only song that directly references folklore heavily implies that is must be connected to one of its characters in some way, namely Augustine.
I see me padding 'cross your wooden floors With my Eagles t-shirt hanging from the door At dinner parties I call you out on your contrarian shit And the coastal town we wandered 'round had never seen a love as pure as it And then it fades into the gray of my day old tea 'Cause you know it could never be
The most curious part of the song is that when the narrator finally allows herself to imagine a future with the person she loves, she quickly remind herself that "it could never be," and that the object of her affections knows this as well.
All that the narrator, Augustine, wants is to have a comfortable and happy future with Dorothea, but she cannot bring herself to imagine the two of them ever finding this coastal town that sees their love as "pure." This hopeless and resigned tone about her assumedly unrequited love and unattainable dreams is exacerbated in the final chorus when the lyrics change to "the coastal town we never found will never see a love as pure as it."
Also, I feel the need to point out a few lyrical parallels because:
Gold Rush: Walk past, quick brush
'Tis the Damn Season: It's the kind of cold, fogs up windshield glass But I felt it when I passed you
Gold Rush: My mind turns your life into folklore I can't dare to dream about you anymore
Dorothea: I have this dream you're doing cool shit Having adventures on your own
Gold Rush: And the coastal town we wandered 'round
'Tis the Damn Season: And it always leads to you in my hometown
Invisible String
Green was the color of the grass Where I used to read at Centennial Park I used to think I would meet somebody there
Anddd we're at the final song! Fittingly, I believe this song is from the perspective of Dorothea after she and Augustine reunite, wrapping up their story with a happy ending.
And in true full-circle Taylor Swift fashion, their story ends the same way it starts, with Centennial Park. If you don't recall, dorothea starts with these lines:
Dorothea: Hey Dorothea, do you ever stop and think about me? When we were younger, down in the park
And this isn't the only recall to Dorothea's evermore songs. Almost every line in this song references a line in one of the previous songs that I've analyzed!
Teal was the color of your shirt When you were sixteen at the yogurt shop
Remember the "eagles t-shirt" from gold rush? Taylor confirmed this was a deliberate reference to the Philadelphia eagles, who's team color is teal. Again, this song could only be about dorothea's narrator, Augustine, as gold rush is from evermore while invisible string is from folklore, and Dorothea is the sole connection between the two albums.
Gave me no compasses, gave me no signs Were there clues I didn't see?
This is a direct parallel to exile, where Dorothea laments over how Augustine "never gave a warning sign." But now the tone has shifted, and she readily admits that maybe she had missed the signs all along, and looks back on the nature of their relationship as fateful rather than chaotic.
All along there was some Invisible string Tying you to me
Sound familiar? Even though Dorothea has tried to leave in the past, time and time again, it always leads back to Augustine and their hometown.
On your first trip to LA You ate at my favorite spot for dinner
In the end, it seems like Dorothea does end up leaving back to LA, like she says at the end of 'tis the damn season. But this line implies that the leaving wasn't necessarily marking a bad ending to their relationship. It implies that Augustine comes with her, and they finally get that coastal town they had always wanted but never thought they could have. Outside of the pressure of their small town, they can finally host their dinner parties and voice their contrarian bullshit.
Bold was the waitress on our three year trip Getting lunch down by the lakes She said I looked like an American singer
To me, this line solidifies the idea that this folklore song is about Dorothea. No other character in either of the albums is implied to be famous and have a performance career, which narrows the possibilities to just about one person. And this "three year trip" makes perfect sense for Dorothea, who Augustine says never liked the stuffiness of their hometown.
Chains around my demons, wool to brave the seasons One single thread of gold tied me to you
"Wool to brave the seasons" seems to me like a reference to not only 'tis the damn season, but the album cover of evermore as well.
The color of the invisible string that ties the two together being gold also seems to be a reference to gold rush. The East Asian folk myth the song is based off of describes a red string, not a gold one. So if the color were to be changed, it would have to have been very deliberate. And this theory is only reinforced with the next line:
Gold was the color of the leaves When I showed you around Centennial Park Hell was the journey but it brought me heaven
Another reference to gold, and another reference to Centennial Park. The description paints a picture of the so called gold rush that Augustine had been trying to avoid, being finally embraced by the two of them.
The song offers one final parallel to close this analysis off:
'Tis the Damn Season: But if it's okay with you, it's okay with me
Invisible String: And it's cool, baby, with me
Thank you so much for sticking with me for this whole analysis! I would love to hear what theories or criticisms you guys have as well.
I did make the songs out of chronological order for a smoother analysis, but if you're confused about the timeline, here's a playlist I made of all the songs I find to be part of their story, including some that I have not analyzed here. It starts with James and Augustine's relationship in mirrorball, and continues from there in chronological order.

9 Fandom Peeps to Get to Know Better
tagged my @defeateddetectives ^_^ thank you <33
3 ships you like: hmm see which three should I pick here... let's say komahina (danganronpa. yes), bruabba (jjba p5) and just to spice things up, momoko and ichi from maiko-san chi no makanai (really lovely food centric manga about two girls who move to kyoto to become maiko but one of them ends up becoming the cook at the maiko house instead. sometimes frustrates me because of how strong the gay "undertones" are and then the author seems to insist on pursuing a het love triangle/probably het end game with a dude who has a comparatively shallow relationship with his love interest. anyway ever since the flashback chapters came out ive been shipping the house mother and sumire's geiko onee-san because if there's one throughline in my top ships, it's older side characters with some kind of tragic/emotionally fraught relationship LOL.) propaganda:
Tumblr media
"Yuuko never let anyone in her room before she became a trainee. [...] For her to be swapping beds with others is... no, it's just Azusa."
Tumblr media
(They have each other's apartment keys. She comes over and sleeps in her room. Halfsies!!!)
Tumblr media
(This is basically a marriage proposal to me)
first ship ever: ...I think it was karkat/terezi from homestuck. This is kind of funny but before I really got into fandom or when I was just beginning, my approach to text was basically reading it with the most surface level/likely reading. I literally didn't understand why people would ship characters who I "knew" would never get together in canon. I didn't see the point in it LOL to me shipping was like horse racing or something, you ship the characters who are the most likely to end up together. This is also very funny in retrospect considering what happened with that particular ship but I had long moved on from it by the time davekat was canonized so I was happy.
last song you heard: either burning desire by lana del rey (blaming mirai for this) or alan stivell's ian morrisson reel
favourite childhood book: i don't think i had or have a favorite one ummm I was really into the secret series by pseudonymous bosch when i was a kid
currently reading: hmm i'm keeping up with maiko-san and ekuoto (make the exorcist fall in love. it's neat i recommend it though i'm not a big fan of the art style), and I was reading the oofuri manga which i should get back to but currently my attention is being taken up by natsuyuu lol. as for non-manga though the last thing I read before natsuyuu was Devil Venerable Also Wants To Know which is SO GOOD and i had more art ideas in mind for it which i want to get back to at some point...
currently watching: I don't watch a whole lot of stuff. I'm keeping up with the dunmeshi anime but tbh i really don't like the coloring for it. the art is okay but ryoko kui's art is kind of unmatched. it's just nice to have something to watch with my friend every week. also i've been doing a natsuyuu anime rewatch in anticipation of s7 with a friend whose never seen it before
currently consuming: nothing but i just had some crazy noodles. leftover curry in a pan + frozen corn + instant noodles = yummy
currently craving: nothing because i am now full :D
ill tag @ponimado @tattoosingarishhues @beguinemystic @dysaniium @moritzallein @somapodra @garbageg0blin @chuck-charles @joelletwo as always this is just if you wanna!
