“Shall we see, Takami-kun? Let’s find out what would have happened if you hadn’t treated killing him (Twice) as your top priority back then.”
Dying because this is such an obvious set up for both Hawks and AFO to eat shit 💀 “hmm what would have happened if you hadn’t killed him what would have happened i wonder :) :)” he says as if Twice wouldn’t have tried to beat his geriatric ass to death the moment he realized AFO was abusing Tomura and the rest of the LOV,,,
Tumblr media
The overhaul arc being a trial run for the final arc and overhaul being an explicit afo-expy looks more and more intentional with each new chapter— and Twice (+Toga) are being set up to reprise their roles during that arc, where they initially fight on the villain side only to pull a fast one and help the heroes out during a crucial moment. Twice opposed helping Overhaul more than anyone else, took issue with him hurting the LOV members more than anyone else, and he was also the one who first caused Tomura’s positive traits and natural consideration for others (i.e. his inner Tenko) to start bubbling back to the surface.
Twice also being someone who can (and will) oppose AFO also forces Hawks to grapple with the fact that he made the wrong decision by choosing to focus on what a threat Twice *could* be and executing him for crimes he hadn’t even committed— “Let’s find out what would have happened if you hadn’t killed him” followed by Twice immediately making AFO’s life miserable and throwing wrench after wrench in all his evil plans? Hawks having to watch while Twice proves to be a greater asset against AFO than any of the remaining heroes? The set up is just too good to pass up. Don’t let me down Hori…!!

“I missed you, honey.” Toji plops down on the bed, throwing his arm over you. You bite down your lip, holding back tears as you think of the worst. Your husband is a firefighter, he’s always worked long irregular hours– But he feels distant lately, leading you to believe something is up. Something that’s heart wrenching, even if you’re just wrapping your head around it.
You really can’t help but think of the worst, even when Toji has shown you nothing but love. He’s the best husband you could ask for, yet you find yourself scrolling through his phone while he sleeps. The only thing that Toji’s done is work… Yet you wonder if he has someone else since he’s barely home. The fact that you’ve read how firemen cheat a lot doesn’t really help you either.
His thumb begins to caress your cheek before he whispers, “Are you asleep?”
You don’t answer, letting him believe that you are. He whispers the same three little words before kissing your forehead, making it infinitely harder for you to hold back your tears. Your teeth dig into your bottom lip, holding back a sob as tears begin to stream down your face. You can’t fight them back no matter how hard you try.
“What’s wrong, darling?” He asks, feeling your hot tears on his fingertips. “Did something happen? Why are you crying?”
“I’m fine.” You answer, turning so you’re not facing him. But it’s obvious that you’re not fine, if you were you wouldn’t be crying. Toji wouldn’t usually push you to tell him if you’re in a bad mood, but you’re crying so something is clearly wrong and he wants to help. He wonders if it’s something he did wrong, and if it’s that, he wants to fix it.
“Let’s talk so I can help you.” He sounds concerned, and you begin to feel dumb for crying. Toji pulls you close to him, kissing your shoulder, his hands going under your shirt so his thumbs can trace lazy circles on your skin.
“Toji…” You begin, and he patiently waits for your next words. Time feels eternal to him, wondering what’s bugging his precious wife. You sit up on the bed, taking a moment to gather your feelings. You don’t want to become a sobbing mess while speaking to him.
“What’s wrong, honey?” He asks, following your lead and sitting up as well. He rubs your back, attempting to help you calm down. You take a deep breath before you spit the words out, knowing that dragging it out will make the moment even more interminable for the both of you.
“Are you having an affair?” The words are incoherent since you talk too fast. Toji furrows his brows, confused as to what you said. He asks you to repeat what you just said, slowly, and you regret repeating it so he understands.
“Am I…– What?” His face contorts, offended by the mere question. The mere thought would be a disgrace to Toji, and he’d repent a thousand times before thinking again. You bite your tongue, not daring to speak again. He scoffs, “This is… Unbelievable.”
“I’m sorry.” You don’t waste a second, but that doesn’t fix the mess that you just caused. You don’t know what you’ve just caused, it could just be the downfall of your marriage. Maybe any other time Toji would be understanding and reassuring, but you’re not seeing that he’s doing all this for you.
“Do you really think so little of me?” He begins and you frantically shake your head, wanting to make it clear that you didn’t mean it. Your words won’t leave your throat though, and that’s not helping your case. He scoffs again. “I devote my whole life to you, and this is what you ask me…”
“Toji, I– I’m sorry, I really am. I’ve just been seeing a lot of how firemen tend to cheat, and you’ve just been away lately so… I just thought–” You’re all over the place, and Toji grows even more annoyed with every sound that leaves your lips. He’d never think that he would feel like this about your voice, but he can’t stand to listen to it.
“So you just thought I’d be a dirty piece of shit and do that to you. Got it. So nice to see what the love of my life thinks of me.” Toji answers, standing up from the bed and grabbing his pillow. He can’t sleep next to you tonight. The couch will do for tonight… And for a couple of days after that.
Your bottom lip quivers as you think of how to stop him and how to properly apologize. You’re in the wrong, you know you are, but you can’t speak up. Toji sighs before he begins to walk out of your bedroom. You’ve had many arguments, but never did they end up with him walking out of your shared bedroom and going to the living room to sleep. He tries to talk it out before going to sleep, and if that doesn’t work, you sleep with your backs facing each other (even though in the morning you wake up cuddled up). He’s clearly upset, and you have no idea how to solve it this time.
He slams the door shut, and you blankly stare for a minute before laying back down on the bed. The crying doesn’t stop though, instead it gets worse since you know you’ve fucked up.
Tumblr media
Toji leaves the kitchen and goes to the backyard when you begin to walk to him. He leaves his morning coffee on the counter, a hot cup that he just served to get his morning started. You didn’t expect him to react this badly but you understand. If he had accused you of cheating, you wouldn’t be too forgiving either.
A sigh leaves your lips knowing that your day just started but it’s already a shitty one. You pour yourself a cup of coffee before going to the glass sliding door to watch what your husband does. He cleans up anything that looks out of place, doing stuff that neither of you ever do.
You start off your day without speaking to each other, and you think of ways to make it up to him. Thankfully, you have all the time in the world to think about what to do, until you finally land on cooking his favorite meal and taking it to his job. He works a long shift today, and he didn’t pack anything to go. Knowing him, Toji will just end up eating instant or something of that sort. He’s content with it but you know he’d prefer something made by you.
So you cook something for him, one of his favorite meals, saving up the dish that he absolutely loves for dinner. You never really liked the saying that a way to a man's heart is through his stomach, but it’s fitting for Toji. You make an effort to dress up and look good for him– In other words, you’re doing everything in your power to make him happy with you again.
All eyes are on you when you get to the fire station. Toji seemingly didn’t hold back on your argument from last night, and you feel as if everyone is judging you. You can’t exactly be upset at him for it, you’ve been cursing yourself since last night for bringing it up. But you can’t help but feel insecure.
Lately you feel as if you’ve changed a lot from the woman that Toji loves, and the fact that he’s been working so much doesn’t really ease your nerves. Yes, you should’ve communicated with him better instead of straight up asking if he was having an affair, but you weren’t thinking straight when the question left your lips. It shouldn’t matter what they think anyway, you’re here to amend your problems, which half of their partners wouldn’t even bother.
You get to the kitchen, finding some of his co-worker but not him. Their eyes fall on the bag you hold, and they begin salivating at the mere thought of the food that’s inside. If Toji doesn’t want it, they’ll take it.
“Is he in the training room?” You ask after a simple greeting. They nod in response, and you put the bag on the counter. You point at it, warning them, “That’s for Toji. Don’t touch it unless he doesn’t want it.”
“Yes, ma’am.” They answer, mentally praying that Toji isn’t hungry– Or that he’s too mad that he rejects it. They don’t care about the cause, they just want to eat Toji’s food.
Just as you expected, Toji works out in the training room, wearing his uniform pants and a black undershirt. He lifts himself up, a grunt leaving his mouth which lets you know that he’s been at it for a while. You don’t mean to interrupt him, leaning on the door frame watching him workout. It’s a rare sight… And it’s certainly doing something to you. You feel your face and body get warm, erotic thoughts filling your mind.
You force yourself to look away, you’re here to apologize to your husband, you can’t let other thoughts fill up your mind. Your main and only focus is getting Toji to forgive you. You end up clearing your throat, and Toji’s eyes land on you. He lets go.
“Why are you here?” He doesn’t bother to greet you. Your presence isn’t welcome today, at least that’s what he makes it sound like. He needs time away from you to calm down and gather his thoughts, but he can’t exactly do that with you here. “Are you keeping tabs on me now?”
“I’m just dropping lunch off for you, Toji. Nothing else.” You answer. You bite down your lip, knowing you should say more; you should apologize. You have no idea why, but apologies are so fucking hard. You know you’re in the wrong, but no matter how horrible you feel, admitting you’re wrong just doesn’t come easy. You did it last night without a problem, but today it’s hard.
“Is that all?” He asks, and you shake your head. You have more to say, you just have to take a moment before saying it. Toji watches you, waiting for your apology.
“I’m sorry for what I said last night. I shouldn’t have said that.” You say, and Toji isn’t satisfied with the answer. You shouldn’t have just said that, the thought shouldn’t have even crossed your mind. “I don’t know what came over me… I just feel so insecure as I get older and change. I’ve been changing in so many ways, and I feel so different from the woman that you once fell in love with.”
“And you just thought that I’m so horrible that the slightest change would make me look for someone else?” He’s getting even more upset. You have valid reasons to feel the way you’re feeling, and he partially understands but Toji can’t find himself to tell you that he somewhat gets it. He just hates that you even thought he’d do something like that to you when he would burn the world just to see you smile.
“It’s not like that, Toji—“ You take a deep breath. “I’ve just been in my head, and you’ve also been working a lot and I’ve felt you distant which doesn’t really help… I’m sorry.”
“You don’t understand how upsetting it is to hear my own wife say that. I’d do just anything for you and–” He begins but he can’t bring himself to finish his sentence. An exasperated sigh leaves his lips and he shakes his head. “I need time. Just leave. I’ll see you at home.”
“Toji…” You begin, but you end up nodding. “I left some food for you in the kitchen. Love you.”
He hums in response, going back to his work out. Now that stings.
Tumblr media
Toji regrets giving his wife the silent treatment the moment there’s an emergency in his home. His heart completely stops beating for a moment, regretting not talking to you for a couple of days. He feels as if the firetruck moves slower today, which makes him want to get out and run to you to assure your safety.
A million thoughts run through his head, wondering what happened. But that’s not what bothers him the most. The thought of your last interaction ending in you telling him you love him and him not answering back will haunt him forever. If something happens to you, he’d never forgive himself.
There’s a couple of neighbors huddled up outside, watching the flames that are on the left side of the house. Toji doesn’t really have time to watch, he runs into the house to search for you. He feels as if his heart is in his throat, ready to leave his body until he finally finds out. You’re passed out on the bathroom floor but thankfully away from the fire.
He throws you over his shoulder and carries you out. He gets you to the paramedics, and stays by your side, knowing that everything else is under control. Time goes so slow yet so fast while the paramedics check you, and while you’re out of danger, he’s more nervous than before. The saddest tears spill from his eyes, yet they hold so much relief when he’s assured that you’re okay. The situation could’ve ended much worse, but thankfully you’re okay.
Toji has many questions about the situation, wondering what could’ve possibly happened for you to pass out on the bathroom floor like you did. But he doesn’t worry about the details, he doesn’t care that half of his house is burned, he’s just happy that you’re safe. Your safety is all that matters.
When you gain consciousness, you’re bombarded with love from Toji. Toji is off work for a week to make sure that you’re okay, after all, you did faint in the bathroom which caused half of your home to burn down. Toji’s love is weird though, at least compared to before. Toji isn’t verbal with his love, he shows it to you physically. However, the week that he stays by your side, Toji doesn’t touch you in any way.
Toji views you as fragile, even though you assured him that you were okay after going to the hospital. It’s as if he doesn’t believe you when you tell him that you’re okay, and it irks you. Maybe it irks you more than it should because whenever you try to initiate something with him, he turns you down.
When you kiss his exposed shoulder, hugging his waist from behind, giving him some sort of hint that you need to feel his touch, he stops you. He cuts you off with a yawn, telling you that he’s too tired to do anything. It leaves you frustrated in so many ways– Not having sex isn’t the part that annoys you the most, it’s the fact that Toji is coddling you.
Toji doesn’t let you do anything he considers mildly dangerous, and he won’t talk about any topic that might upset you. Your argument before the fire hasn’t been resolved yet since he dismisses it every time you try to apologize for it.
Toji acts as if he’s guilty of something but he’s done nothing wrong.
“What are you doing here?” Toji asks. Last time he said similar words, his tone was harsher, his anger clear, but right now he’s concerned. Did something happen? You look fine as you sip on some tea… He just can’t wrap his head around as to why you’re here.
“I think we should have a talk.” You answer. Maybe this could have waited until later, but he’s on a twenty four hour shift and you feel as if your thoughts are getting the best of you again. You watch as everyone scatters out of the kitchen, sensing that the topic that you’re going to talk about is something serious.
“You’re just here to keep an eye on me, huh?” He jokes, followed by a lighthearted chuckle. You roll your eyes and he begins to walk away, “I’m going to take a shower, we can talk at home.”
You stand up, following behind him, calling out to him, “Toji, c’mon. We both know that you’re not going to talk when we’re at home. It’s quick.”
Your words go ignored. Toji gets to the men’s bathroom, practically shutting the door in your face. You cross your arms, staring at the door. He knows you’re too much of a prude to enter the men’s room. You think about how Toji only takes ten minutes in the shower, but you have a feeling that he’ll take at least an hour today. You think about leaving– But no, you’re going to talk to him now. Whether he likes it or not.
You look both ways before barging into the man’s bathroom, and you feel your face get hot, embarrassment taking over you the moment you step a foot inside. There’s luckily no one inside, so you have no reason to actually be embarrassed. You lock the door behind you before looking for Toji. Your ears follow the sound of the water droplets that hit the ground until you land on the closed curtain.
“Toji.” You call out his name, yet he doesn’t answer. If it’s not him, you could crawl into a hole and die of shame, but you know it’s him. There’s no one else in here. “Toji Fushiguro, I swear–”
You shut your eyes before you take a deep breath. You begin to get undressed, getting more and more irritated by the second. Once you’re completely bare, you open the shower curtain and enter the shower. You almost squeal at the cold water, but you get used to the feeling quickly. He lets out a low laugh when he feels your arms wrap around him, feeling your warmth behind him.
“You should warn a guy. I almost punched you but then I felt a pair of boobs press against my back.” Toji says as you press a kiss on his wet back. He heard you call out his name, he knew it was you. Toji isn’t deaf even though he loves to pretend like he is hard of hearing.
“I’ll fucking kill you. I called out your names a couple of times.” You tell him. He’s smiling as he turns around to face you. He kisses the top of your head as you hug him tight, and it feels like the first touch you’ve gotten from him after some time. It makes you feel warm inside, a smile unwillingly coming to your lips. “Now you have to talk to me.”
“Isn’t that what we do daily.” Toji answers, and your bottom lip sticks out.
“About serious matters, Toji.” You respond, and a sigh leaves his lips. He can’t escape this– Although he isn’t exactly upset with the situation. “C’mon. I’m fine, am I not? We can talk. You were upset before.”
“Yeah… But I overreacted.” He replies. He had the right to be upset, but he regrets not saying that he loves you back. He can’t forgive himself for almost letting your last real interaction end with him just humming when you told him you loved him. “You tried to talk to me and I was… A little bitch.”
“A little bitch, really?” You can’t help but giggle. He could’ve used any other words to describe himself. “I’m glad you came to your senses.”
“But look what had to happen for me to use my brain.” Toji’s fingers caress your back. You press a kiss on his chest before your hands go to the back of his neck, pulling his head down so you can kiss his lips.
“You were rightfully upset… You did drag it out a bit though.” You tell him, and he laughs. He did. He had your perspective and he still treated you harshly. He can’t help but think that this whole incident wouldn’t have happened if he treated you better in that moment. He also thinks that you’re hiding something from him about your health because last time you were honest with him, he had a bad reaction.
“Are you really okay, though? Is there anything wrong with your health?” He asks, and you shake your head in response. It’s the truth, you’re more than okay. But it isn't so easy to believe that, after all, you wouldn’t have fainted if your health was completely fine.
“I’m more than okay.” You reassure him. You press your lips against his again. “Why are you so… Distant?”
“What do you mean distant?” He furrows his brows in confusion. If anything, he’s closer to you than ever. You bite down your lip before you say,
“This is the longest you’ve held me ever since our argument… You don’t try to touch me anymore.”
“I…” He begins, and you watch his eyes tear up. You didn’t mean for that to happen. You peck his lips, hoping that it’ll make the tears go away. He smiles before telling you, “I’m just an idiot.”
“Is that all you have to say?” You ask him. He can’t bring himself to say it. He felt too guilty to touch you. He could’ve avoided it all. A simple kiss just takes him back to that moment– He feels unworthy of you and of your touch. But right now he feels different. He should’ve told you he loved you back. All his hopes and dreams with you almost slipped away, and he’s at fault for that. He hums in response, that’s all he’s willing to share.
“Did you lock the door before coming in here?” He changes the topic. A mischievous look comes to your face, which is the answer to his question. He doesn’t waste a second before his lips land on yours, his tongue moving past your parted lips and into your mouth. You pull him closer to you as your tongue presses against his.
Toji’s hand goes down and grabs a handful of your ass before he practically pushes you against the wall of the shower. The kiss gets more heated by the second, and every ounce of shame leaves your body as you feel his hot hands on your now cold body. He manages to set your body on fire even in such cold water.
“I need you so badly.” You mutter when he pulls away from your lips, kissing your jaw following down your neck. His hands fondle your breast as your hand goes down to his erection. Even in cold water you get him so fucking hard. His index finger and thumb pinch one of your nipples, while he kisses down your neck and to your chest. His mouth wraps around your other nipple, and he sucks.
You begin to stroke his cock, eager to feel him inside of you. You need his touch now more than ever. You’re needy. Toji’s hand goes down to your cunt, two fingers running through your folds, making your thighs squeeze out of pure excitement. Toji unlatches, getting down to his knees to do what he should’ve done a long time ago.
He kisses your clit before his tongue runs through your folds. He’s fucking missed your taste– And the way you softly moan when his tongue moves on your cunt. His tongue focuses on your clit while two of his fingers tease the entrance of your cunt.
He pushes two fingers in, making a breathy moan leave your lips. Your hand slaps over your mouth, remembering the place you’re at. They can’t hear you, you’re safe, but panic still sets in. Toji stops flicking your clit to tell you, “I need to hear you, baby. Want you to be loud.”
“Not here, Toji.” You whisper, cut off by a moan as his fingers curve so they brush against your sweet spot. Toji’s mouth doesn’t waste time going back to your cunt, quickly getting used to the taste and not being able to stay away from it for too long. You can’t help but mutter, “You’re doing so good– Fuck…”
Your eyes are rolling to the back of your head. Toji does everything in his power to make you feel on cloud nine. The best way he knows how to apologize. You can’t argue with it, not when you’re on the verge of screaming his name because he’s making you feel so good.
He’s working you up, leading you up to your climax. The pressure on your lower abdomen builds up and just as your release nears, he pulls his fingers out, leaving your cunt to clench around nothing. He rises from between your legs, his lips messily kissing yours again.
“Need to feel you around me, baby.” Toji’s voice and actions are filled with desperation. You can’t judge him because you feel the same way. Toji runs the tip of his cock through your folds before reaching the entrance. He slaps the tip on your cunt, teasing you. He would almost make you beg for it, but he can’t wait any longer. He slowly pushes himself in, hissing as he feels your cunt take him in.
He gives you a moment to adjust to the sudden change before he begins to thrust in and out of you.  You’re struggling, holding back moans in the back of your throat. It’s hard when his cock feels so perfect inside of you.
“It’s so good, Toji.” You’re so quiet, he fucking hates it. He loves when you’re loud, letting him know just how good you feel because of him. It’d be so embarrassing for his co-workers to hear, but fuck, is it painful to not hear your sweet voice.
Toji’s hand goes to your throat, lightly squeezing. His index and middle finger go up and reach your lips, and as soon as your mouth slightly parts, the two fingers enter your mouth. His lips go down to kiss your shoulder before he bites down. He can’t help but tell you, “You feel so perfect around me, baby.”
“Toji-” You sound so pathetic. He wants to hear you scream his name, but he knows you won’t. It’s surprising that you’re even doing this with him. He takes his fingers out of your mouth, moving them down to play with your clit. You moan his name again, but louder.
“Need to tell you how much I love you.” Toji’s lips go to your ear. He moans in your ear as he feels your cunt squeeze around him, and fuck, he knows he won’t last long. You’re just so nice and warm around him, he swears this is heaven. “Need to give you all my cum, baby. You’d like that? You want my cum, baby?”
“I need your cum, Toji.” You begin to squeeze around him. Toji loves to tease you about knocking you up, and it always riles you up. You shut your eyes as your hands go into his shoulders and your nails dig into his soft flesh. You’re so close to your release.
“I’ll give it to you, baby. I’ll knock you up.” He watches your face filled with pleasure. It’s taking everything in him to not lose control.
“Toji!” You see white, reaching your climax. He holds on to you as your legs become weak for that moment.
He keeps moaning into your ear and telling you, “Need to knock up your sweet little pussy.”
His thrusts become unregulated. He doesn’t want to stop now but he does have to go back to work before an emergency pops up. He wishes he could spend all day beside you, making you feel so good. Toji finally moans your name, as his warm cum fills you up.
You spend a moment in silence, hearing the water hit the ground before he pulls out. You quietly clean yourselves up, and you almost gag knowing that you’ll be smelling like a three-in-one old spice body wash for the rest of the day.
“How am I going to sneak out of here, Toji?” You ask when he turns off the faucet. He shrugs in response. Maybe getting in the shower with him wasn’t the best idea. Your wet hair is a dead giveaway at the fact that you were doing something that you weren’t supposed to be doing.
Toji gives you the towel that he was going to use, while drying himself up with the towel that was meant for his hair. He picks up your clothes from the floor, setting them down on the sink. “Just ignore them. We weren’t the first people to do this, and I doubt we’ll be the last.”
“It’s still embarrassing.” You respond, and Toji furrows his brows in confusion before a chuckle escapes his lips.
“Good thing it wasn’t my idea. Let me remind you that you came in uninvited. Plus, they should be understanding since half of our house is getting renovated.” Toji answers, making you roll your eyes. Your bedroom and bathroom is still intact, it’s really no excuse.
“Yeah, whatever.” You aren’t exactly too upset since things are back to being somewhat normal. You begin to put your clothes back on, as Toji mindlessly watches you. You tilt your head to the side before asking, “Is everything okay?”
“I know I’m all talk and shit about knocking you up but…” He begins, and it’s an unexpected topic. You’re fighting back a smile as you hear him say, “Don’t you want to start a family soon?”
“Oh, Toji.” You finish putting on your shirt, stepping closer to him and kissing his cheek. It's a weird response… Is that a yes? He thinks so at least. “I’ve been keeping something from you.”
“Huh?” He’s scared of what you’re going to say next. “What…?”
“When I went to the doctor, there wasn’t anything wrong with me exactly… Nothing concerning.” You begin, and he grows impatient as he waits for you to get to the point. “I was feeling dizzy and all while cooking so I thought going to the bathroom and washing my face real quick would help me, but I fainted.”
“Yeah, I know that. You’ve told me a couple of times.” He interrupts you since he’s too impatient. “What are you keeping from me?”
“I’m pregnant.” You blurt out, and Toji’s eyes widen. Are his ears deceiving him? He stares at you in shock for a moment before you repeat, “I’m pregnant, Toji.”
“I–” He’s speechless. He can’t say anything, but he can wrap his arms around you and kiss all over your face. This news is the best news he’s gotten in his life– Sure he was expecting this to happen a couple months into the future, but he certainly isn’t upset about it. He tells you over and over again, “Thank you, my love.”
You were worried about his reaction because your life isn’t all that ideal right now, but he’s over the moon. And so are you. Toji’s nose is nuzzled in the crook of your neck as he holds onto you. He holds still for a moment, until you finally tell him, “Go put on some clothes, Toji. Half of your dick is still hanging out.”
“Wait for me so I can escort you out.” He responds. It’s like he wants to parade you after fucking you in the bathroom.
He smirks at you. That’s exactly what he wants to do.

Would you be willing to do more enemies to lover tropes in hero x villain?
"You have a date?"
"If you don't want me to date other people, screw me yourself."
There was a beat of absolute silence. The hero abruptly realized what they'd said. They whirled to face the villain, eyes wide. "I didn't mean - that is - I don't know why I just said that."
Everyone around the room was gaping at the two of them.
The villain's head tilted, oh so slowly, to the side. Their gaze burned into the hero.
"I was being flippant," the hero said.
"Mm."
"You know, because you're possessive."
"Am I?" The villain's voice was silken.
"So I was just getting in there before you said something snippy."
"Oh? Is that what you were doing?"
The hero glared at them, face hot, stomach fluttering.
"Leave us," the villain said.
Everyone around them scattered.
The hero cleared their throat, not speaking until the last door had fallen closed. They wrenched their gaze away to anything, anywhere, except them. "It's not a serious date. I mean - they're not you."
The thing, whatever they were calling it, that they had with the villain was infinitely complex. Consuming. They were the most important person to the villain, and vice versa, and they both knew it but...
But they'd never kissed. They'd certainly never slept together.
Sure, the hero would probably get antsy if they thought the villain was going out with someone who might become first priority. But it wasn't - they weren't - the hero hadn't even been the one to bring up the bloody date!
The villain rose to their feet.
"You're walking dangerously close to one of our lines, hero mine," they warned softly. They sauntered closer, seemingly lazy, except that was the one thing that they never were. "You look startled enough that I can believe it was an accident. We could forget about it."
The hero watched them, a little mesmerized, heart pounding. The villain stopped in front of them.
The hero opened their mouth.
The villain tapped their lip. "Ah, ah. You're not getting away with another flippant comment after that. Think."
The hero closed their mouth. They swallowed.
It was a truth universally acknowledged that when the air between them began to crackle, the hero would say something snarky or careless to diffuse the tension. Nine times out of ten, the villain went along with it. Eight times out of ten, the hero didn't say something quite so dumb in a room full of witnesses.
It wasn't fear. It was terrifying, but it wasn't fear. It would have been so much easier if they were simply scared.
The villain set their hands on either side of the armchair the hero sat in. The hero let themselves be bracketed in with the same slow deliberation as the villain had approached them.
The hero exhaled a breath.
"Good," the villain murmured, studying them. "Now. Would you like to take that back?"
The hero said a lot of crap to the villain that they never took back. They were the only one who did. They watched the villain for a beat, every atom wondering what it would be like if the villain's hands slipped from their careful placement on furniture onto flesh.
The dates weren't like that. The dates were never like this.
But, lord, it would be such a stupid thing to do to cross that line.
The hero tipped their chin up, holding the villain's gaze again. "Do you want me to take it back?"
"If you don't, I'm definitely taking what you said as a challenge."
"Ah, yeah. That's fair." The hero wet their dry lips. "Fair warning."
"So?"
It had happened before. A threshold moment. A teetering. The villain's eyes would go dark, like they currently were, tracking everything. They'd let it go, though. If the hero asked. They always did. For all of their obvious possessiveness, the villain was never the one who brought it up.
"So," the hero dared, before they could stop themselves.
The villain's eyes notched another inch darker, more molten. Their nails dug into the upholstery.
The hero shivered; delicious and awful all at once. Intoxicating.
"So you were being flippant?" the villain prompted.
"So flippant. Unforgivably reckless. I mean, we're a terrible idea."
"The worst," the villain agreed. "Your dates are much sweeter."
"You can be sweet. When you want to be."
The villain clicked their tongue, warning.
The hero grinned back at them. Wild. Drunk, perhaps, on the vertigo of such reckless possibility, such foolish wanting.
They were at the line again. The hero was boldly brushing it with their toe, smudging at it, taunting.
The villain waited.
"You're sweet to me," the hero said. "Despite yourself." They leaned in, and up. "Tell me to stop."
"Do you want to stop?"
"No."
"No," the villain echoed. Then they grabbed the hero by the hair and kissed them.

Inspiration from Resident Evil, Persona 5 and Karin Slaughter novels. I feel in the modern world, Lightning’s life layouts of herself use to be in the service and moves on to be a detective, or anything with law enforcement. Like the world that doesn’t regard anything from the trilogy like herself being etro’s guardian or a savior. Her as simply a human. I suppose her fighting the justice system somewhat mirrors to her savior duty of protecting society. Her points enhanced from her experience from the combat service. Not take crap from anyone, but also be sincere to victims.

Almanac - Chapter 3
Been a while since I uploaded something. Had some real busy weeks, got sick on top, just all sorts of annoyances. Tbh this has been done for a while but I was contemplating where to split this chapter, and finally decided here, which means it was done.
Ship: Dead on Main (Danny/Jason) First | Masterlist
Chapter 3 - 12th October, Full Hunter’s Moon
Danny was still angry and frustrated at what the Justice League had made him do, when they could have just asked Phantom, but now at least he was calm, centered.
He breathed in deep, tasting the ectoplasm, not with lungs or tastebuds but with his core. It was quite amazing what a week of intense meditation could do for the Realms. It made him feel a bit guilty that he’d prioritized living over his duties so much, but well, for the foreseeable future he would have plenty of time to play king.
The millennia of stagnation from Pariah’s imprisonment and the time before that of Pariah’s betrayal when the power had gone to his head, had not done great things for the health of the realms. Danny was slowly but steadily changing that.
It was certainly easier to focus on than the fact that he had been summoned as the freaking Ghost King to do something he’d been on the way to deal with, locking him into a deal. He hadn’t had the heart to tell them he’d already been on the way there.
If only they had been a little bit less desperate - a little slower in their setup, all this could have been avoided.
All this power - he breathed in - the Realms’ energy, his to command and shape, infinite, still heavy with Pariah’s madness, but getting better, more colorful, lighter the more he channeled it through his core. All this power and yet, or rather because of that, he was bound by rules.
There were laws governing creatures such as him, such as Clockwork and Pandora: Ancients. Danny chuckled, it was still ridiculous to think of himself as such, he was after all only seven years dead. But as Clockwork said it wasn’t so much a matter of time as it was a matter of power.
Danny had already been powerful. Halfas, because of their still living nature, were naturally inclined to change and gaining power at a rate full ghosts didn’t. Danny having died as a teen while going through puberty (a big change in itself) allowed for exceptional power growth. Coupled with the stressful environment where he fought for his half-life weekly if not daily he had been on the fast track to become an ancient before he hit fifty.
Becoming the de facto Ghost King on his eighteenth birthday stopped that in a way. After a bout of panicked confusion things had stabilized, especially after the coronation made things all official. Danny’s power growth had slowed. It would be quite some time before Danny would be considered an ancient on his own merits now, which was just fine by him. On the flip side becoming Ghost King had made him an ancient by job description.
“Hard at work I see.”
“Clockwork,” Danny greeted, blinking open his eyes. His mentor smiled back at him from an old face that rapidly morphed younger.
“Your Majesty,” Clockwork greeted in return with a flourishing bow in the air.
Danny grimaced. “Really, Clockwork?”
“But that is what you are for the foreseeable future, is it not?”
Danny looked away, biting his lip. Indecision warred inside him, but in the end he couldn’t help but look back up and ask, “will it work?”
Warm amusement shone in the red eyes. “As long as you’re careful, this is not an easy path you’ve decided on.”
Danny scoffed. “How could I not? It was the only thing I could think of.”
“You don’t have any obligation.”
“Clockwork, I took a man from his family, their grief is paying for my assistance. I never-“ his own grief and revulsion rose up in a wave, he felt as if he would drown.
“I didn’t ask for this.” The words were choked out and small.
Clockwork opened his arms and Danny rushed forward into the embrace. He held on desperately, as a sob wrenched through his chest. So much for his calm and meditation. A hand brushed through his hair beneath where the crown floated.
“Having a kind heart is not an easy thing for a king.”
“I wanted them to hurt too though, for putting me in that situation,” Danny admitted quietly.
“Mhmm, a very human emotion.”
Danny flinched, but Clockwork continued running his hand through his hair undeterred.
“And did you let this emotion affect your decision?”
“No, of course not. The world needed saving, that was the most important.”
“Then I don’t see what else you could have done, my King.” Danny sighed, letting it go and letting the steady tick tock of the seconds counted by Clockwork’s chest calm him down.
“In any case there’s no changing the past,” Danny announced with forced cheer as he pushed away.
Clockwork promptly bonked him on the head with his staff and he yelped.
“A hard earned lesson.”
“I wasn’t asking you to.” Danny grumbled rubbing at his head. It was barely a tap, but it still smarted. “I just can’t help but wonder, you know? They thought I was a city spirit, Clockwork! If I could just change that misconception.”
“How about you focus on the present instead, hmmm? Could there maybe be something you’ve forgotten?”
“Forgotten?” Danny felt a curl of worry in his gut.
“mmhmmm,” Clockwork hummed in agreement.
Danny wracked his brain, but simply couldn’t figure out what he’d forgotten.
“How is that new pet of yours?”
“Pet?! I don’t have- Wait, you don’t mean Jason? He’s a human, not a pet! Really, Clockwork.” Danny turned away, disgruntled at Clockwork, both for calling Jason a pet and also because thinking of Jason brought all that he’d done right back up to the surface.
“And how is the human?”
“I don’t know, okay,” Danny huffed. “I haven’t seen him. But I’m sure he’s fine, he’s a big boy and I gave him free rein of the castle.”
“The semi-sentient castle that responds to your mood?”
Oh.
Oh no.
“Fuck.”
Oo o oO
“Jason!” A voice yelled frantically. There were hands on him shaking him. He blinked open his eyes, not quite focused and suddenly there were green eyes and cold gloved hands on his cheeks.
“Oh good, you’re alive.” There was a lot of relief in that voice.
Jason pushed away and the hands let him. He was normally faster to wake than this, but he must have really been woken up at the wrong time. He felt immensely tired. With a yawn he sat himself up. It took him a moment to comprehend the figure floating cross-legged inches off the bedspread; fluffy white hair and dark brows worried over green eyes, dark clothing, white gloves and a floating nebulous cape behind him that was like a rare view of the night sky. It was the burning crown that finally cut through the haze with a shot of fear through his system.
He moved back, away, until his back hit the headboard. His ears hurt in phantom pain and his eyes flickered searching for signs that the king was angry, but he seemed surprisingly solid, human except for the obvious glowing and floating. Also that was not anger, it was worry and pain and… sadness?
“It seems I have more things to apologize for than I realized.”
Jason met his eyes then and at that moment he just looked tired and sad. He reached a hand out to Jason.
“Will you join me for breakfast?”
Jason didn’t take the hand.
Eventually the king grimaced and looked away. “If you’d rather eat alone that’s also fine, but I think I owe you an explanation and an apology.”
“Okay,” Jason finally answered hesitantly.
“Okay?”
“Okay I’ll join you for breakfast.” Still, instead of taking the offered hand, Jason got out on his own on the other side of the bed. He felt a bit wobbly as he got to his feet but he refused to show any more weakness.
This time as they walked and floated respectively along the hallways there were windows. If the view was to be believed it was still night, clear and starry, with a full moon.
The king noticed him looking and floated over to a window looking out. His white starlight hair moved in a non existent wind and something in his expression softened.
“It is always a clear night sky here. The stars move with the seasons in the living realm matching the northern hemisphere. It is a way for me to tell time. It’s easy to loose track here otherwise.”
Jason would believe that, he’d already lost track of time.
“How long have I been here?”
The king hunched his shoulders. “It’s been thirteen days since the equinox. It is lucky you are as liminal as you are or you would be in a worse state.”
“What does that mean?”
“It means you are to some degree feeding on the energy that make up the Realms, like a ghost would.” The king sighed and turned around.
“So first apology. I had thought I gave you freedom to explore but I forgot to take into account that the castle is semi-sentient and responds to my mood, and my mood haven’t been the best.” His face darkened and it was like the hallway itself got darker and more cramped. Jason’s heart beat fast in his chest, he couldn’t focus on that, he wanted to step backwards, but he couldn’t let fear control him. He had to focus on something else.
“You forgot your castle is magical?” Jason asked, putting as much disbelief into the tone as he could force through his tight throat.
The oppressiveness disappeared, but now the King just looked tired again. “I have been king for two years, Jason, of which I still spent most of the time haunting my hometown. But still I should have realized, so I’m sorry.”
He seemed truthful, but still-
“Two years?” Jason asked weakly, that was no time at all and it was so little compared to what Jason had imagined, compared to what he suspected anyone imagined.
“Yeah, which leads into the second apology. I am in many ways still getting used to the power that comes with the position. I get a bit hard on mortal senses if I’m not careful with my emotions, your liminality protects you some, but,” the King flew closer and hovered so they were at eye height, Jason stiffened. “I was upset and I hurt you. I should have controlled myself better and now you’re scared of me.”
“I’m not scared.”
“Jason, I can taste your fear.”
A spike of fear shot through him and he gave in and stepped back. The king just gazed at him sadly.
“Again, I’m sorry.” He looked for a moment as if he wanted to say something more, but then his shoulders fell and he turned around. “The kitchen is this way.”
The drapes by the windows somehow seemed disappointed in Jason and when he stood still too long without following his section of the hallway tilted. He quickly stepped forward so he wouldn’t overbalance and followed the king - before the castle decided more drastic measures were needed.
Oo o oO
When Jason had imagined what it meant to join the king for breakfast, he wasn’t sure what he’d imagined. But it certainly wasn’t to be seated at a plain wooden table with benches in a medieval looking kitchen with what looked like a glowing, green skinned lunch lady complete with pink dress, hairnet and gloves.
“Thank you for coming with such short notice,” the king addressed the lunch lady from where he was seated across from Jason.
“Oh, it is no problem sweetie,” she replied in a kind voice as she set down a plate of scrambled eggs and bacon in front of each of them. “Growing boys needs lots of protein. And you are still much too skinny.”
Jason watched in fascination as the king rubbed the back of his neck in embarrassment. It was such a human gesture.
“Yeah I’m afraid it’s a bit too late for me to do more growing.”
“Not all growing is physical, dear. Cookie?”
The sudden subject change was enough to give Jason whiplash. But the king seemed to almost expect it from his fond smile.
“You’re right of course. And yes, if you’re willing, we’d love a cookie each.”
The old lady chuckled and procured two chocolate chip cookies seemingly from nowhere. She put them down on two separate plates.
“Kingship suits you, Phantom, you’ve gotten much more polite.” There was something there, a history Jason could only begin to guess at.
“You can thank Dora’s lessons for that.”
“The dragon princess? I will be sure to remember. But I must go now, you take care boys.”
Dragon princess? It was like Jason had walked into a storybook.
They ate for a while in silence as Jason contemplated the scene he’d just watched. The king, or Phantom, Jason remembered now he’d also called himself that, seemed very young. He looked to be around Jason’s age, but of course that didn’t necessarily mean anything since he was a ghost, but he had said he had only been king for two years.
“So you eat,” Jason said just to get a conversation going.
“I can eat, but I don’t have to. Especially not here in the Realms.”
“And me? You said I absorb some energy here because I’m liminal? What does that mean?”
“It means that your spirit, your soul, whatever you wanna call it, hasn’t entirely forgotten how to be dead. But you’re not a proper ghost, so you can’t entirely feed on just the energy here.”
“So if I had never died?”
“This wouldn’t even be an option. I would never take a fully living here for long, they would be driven mad.”
Jason looked down at his food and continued eating, it was delicious and doubly more so because he was starving.
It wasn’t long before Phantom stood up.
“Thank you for indulging me. I won’t force my company on you any longer. The castle shouldn’t give you as much trouble as before - it is not meant to be a prison for you.” He seemed to say the last more to the room than Jason, there was a stern almost admonishing edge.
He was starting to leave and Jason felt a sudden urgency in his chest. This was the first interaction he’d had with anyone in what was apparently nearly two weeks. The loneliness and inactivity loomed like a beast.
“No, wait!”
Phantom turned halfway back. “Did you need anything else?”
“You can’t just leave me with no purpose! I need stuff to do or I will grow mad,” Jason pleaded.
“I don’t-“ Phantom frowned, he made a resigned movement with his hands. “Well, what do you like to do?”
“I-“ And suddenly that line of questioning felt way too intimate and personal. Jason settled for “I like to fight.”
There was something almost disappointed in the king’s gaze that grated in Jason’s chest. He sighed.
“I should have figured. Fright Knight.” He raised his voice on the last two words and suddenly from one blink to the next, there was a figure in grey gladiator armor and a flaming purple cape kneeling in front of him.
“My liege, what can I do for you?”
“Our guest-” he indicated Jason, “wishes to spend his time mastering the art of combat and is in need of a worthy sparring partner.”
The fright knight rose and studied Jason, only now did Jason realize he could see nothing but darkness and a pair of eyes inside the helmet.
“He doesn’t look like much.”
“He’s still alive, make sure he stays that way,” the king said absolutely deadpan, before turning and flying off, cape flaring behind him.
- Yay! Jason got something to eat finally. And he's for sure not gonna be bored anymore, so that's something XD
Things are looking up, or?
Anyways, hope you enjoyed. Comments and tags are greatly appreciated. For continuations you can subscribe to the masterpost

The Window (4 of 5)

Ch 01 // Ch 02 // Ch 03 // Ch 04 // Ch 05 --- AO3 Link
Seeing him again had been a shock. They’d arrived late — not that you were checking on their flight or anything — and they were all a bit worse for wear. Usually, after any mission, good or bad, the flight home was cathartic. Everyone could breathe easy. They were going home to good food and infinite WiFi. It was cause for celebration, no matter how beaten and bruised they felt. But, this time was different.
Price was walking through the hangar while you were cataloging ammunition shipments, lowly desk work while your leg healed up, and he looked so small. Well, he still towered over all of the other soldiers in the bay - except for Ghost - but he just looked so pale and listless. His eyes were dull, staring at the ground, watching his feet take their steps, aimlessly driven to his next destination.
Ghost followed him, equally distracted. His mask was off, and you could see his eye-black smeared all the way down to his mouth, like he’d been rubbing his face, fretting. Gaz had looked furious. He was tossing their gear like it had personally offended him, and he railed into one of the trainees for getting in his way. His warm brown eyes had turned cold and harsh, unfeeling.
Soap was the worst. He jumped from the chopper and immediately started to scan the room, looking for you. He pulled one of the mechanics aside and you heard him asking for you by name, and as the man pointed in your direction, you hid behind the crates. Undeterred, he headed your way, so you crawled into the dark space between where he wouldn’t find you. He searched and searched, pushing aside heavy boxes and truck wheels, hunting for you. He became frantic, pacing back and forth, until Price called his name. His eyes lingered on the darkness where you were hidden, looking but not seeing. Then, glassy-eyed, he retreated, his gaze turning from desperation to unbridled frustration.
It was when you’d been trying to sneak back to the barracks that Price had found you, chasing you through the base. You weren’t running, per se, but you were moving quick enough, and you had quite the head start. He, however, was sprinting, pushing people out of his way, calling after you. When he saw the look on your face, he knew he was in trouble.
“Get back here, Sparrow! That’s an order,” he shouted down the hall.
You turned around to face him, throwing up your hands in an exaggerated shrug,
“You’re not my CO, sir.”
“Spar — Get out of the bloody way!” He shoved a trainee into the wall, pushing past him in an attempt to follow you to your room.
Price was panting, his chest heaving as he grabbed for you, his hands sinking into your soft flesh. You wrenched your body away from him and blocked him from coming into your room. He furrowed his brow and said,
“It’s Sunday. It’s my day.”
“I’m already pregnant. Your services are no longer needed,” you spat, “Much like mine, apparently.”
You tried to shut the door on him, but he blocked it with his huge shoulders, looking at you with a ravenous hunger in his eyes,
“I just got back from the fuckin’ sandbox. We can fight later, but I need you, little bird. Please.”
“And I need you to go fuck yourself… sir.” You slammed the door so hard that you thought you broke the hinges.
You listened to the handle jiggle in the lock from Price’s audacity. Then, silence.
Why was it the silence that hurt the worst?
Soap was at your door that night, banging on it, shaking the frame,
“Bonnie! I ken you’re in there. Lemme in. I jus’ wanna talk to you. Bonnie?”
Silence again, and then there was a slow, wiping sound against the door, like a big palm being slid down it.
“Sparrow? Please.” His voice was so strange. It seemed small. Usually, Soap was the loudest, the most boisterous. And now, he sounded ill.
You listened at the door, hurt and angry, but missing your men. Hearing Johnny beg was almost enough to make you unlock it. Almost.
Over the next week, they all tried to get back in your good graces. Gaz brought you flowers no matter where you were. He covered your desk with them, and you kept throwing them out or giving them away. He left them outside your door, sitting in the hall, complete with little handwritten cards:
I’m so sorry, baby. Please text me? - G.
Come to the main hall? We just need to talk. - G.
You ripped his notes up and tossed them in the trashcan irreverently.
Johnny had been a little less subtle. At the end of a long day, he’d be waiting outside your door, sometimes alone, sometimes with the others, trying to get you to listen to him,
“C’mon, bonnie. Dinnae shut us out. Please, lass.”
You had become an expert at the cold shoulder.
Ghost, fitting with his quiet demeanor, wouldn’t beg. In fact, he wouldn’t say a word. But, he followed you everywhere, haunting your office, stalking you at the gym, sitting at your table during briefings. One time, he cornered you in the elevator, riding with you past his own floor, his eyes burning into your skin.
And then there was Price. Other than his presentations during mission briefings, you hadn’t heard his voice since that very first day. But, he was always around. His smoke gave him away. Your room reeked of his tobacco, and when you were working, you’d smell it in the air. But, when you’d look up to spot him, he was nowhere to be found.
That didn’t mean he failed to reach out to you. He was always on your phone. He called you every morning when he woke up, and he called again every night when you went to bed. You never picked up, but as you lay in bed watching his smiling face pop up on your home screen again, this time, you did.
You didn’t say hello. You just waited to hear what he had to say. You needed to hear him again. Anything. Just a hello.
“Sparrow, it was me. It wasn’t them. You have to forgive them. I was the one who —”
You hung up the phone and cried into your pillow hard enough to make yourself sick.
After that night, things got so much worse. Your emotions were raw, and everything made you terribly sad. Your body was in desperate need of someone to care for it, and your hormones were going absolutely haywire. You were either nauseated or horny, and there was no warning which would hit at any given moment.
You found yourself sneaking out of work early, hiding in the shower, furiously coming on your hand over and over, thinking - wishing - that it was Soap's or Gaz's mouth instead. When you lay in bed at night, you desperately ground your hips into your dildo, riding it like you wanted to ride John and his men, wanton and soaking your sheets.
Eventually, you had reached your limit, and you met Soap, Gaz, and Ghost in the mess hall. They were all sufficiently apologetic, and they were curious as to what had changed your mind.
“Dinnae get me wrong, lass. It’s been hard without you, and I’m not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, but… why are you forgivin’ us?”
“Price told me what he did. He said it wasn’t your decision to take me off the team.”
“That’s not true,” Ghost refuted, earning himself a swift nudge from Soap and a glare from Gaz.
“Shut up, mate. Do y’know how long it’s been since —” Gaz hissed, but Ghost interrupted him.
“The captain was the one who fought to keep you on the task force. He was out-voted.”
“Out-voted? There’s only four of you. Should’ve been at draw…” you observed.
“Exactly. We all voted against him. You’ve no bloody business on the field right now, and you know it. You can barely sit here with us for ten goddamn minutes before you’re sprintin’ off to wretch in whatever can’s the closest.”
You averted your eyes from him, trying to process what he was saying, and feeling the sting of shame when you had to admit that he was right. This first trimester had been an absolute nightmare. You were a sweaty, puking mess here in the offices, and you shuddered to think of feeling this way out in the Urzikstani sands, getting shot at, eating nothing but MREs and instant decaf coffee.
“We just wanted the best for you, birdie,” Gaz reached out for your hand and held it in his, “We know how badly you want this baby, and we…” He looked at the others for a moment and said, “And we’ve fallen in love with you, Sparrow. We can’t lose you. Let us take care of you.”
You were so tired, and you needed to release the tension you’d been holding inside of your chest, so you relented.
They followed you back to your room and sat you on the bed, kissing you so deeply that you could feel their hunger. They’d been waiting for you.
All of them were dripping with precome, and you watched as it stained the thick canvas fabric of their pants, making you wonder if they’d even touched themselves in the time they were apart from you.
They began to strip themselves and you, kissing every bit of your skin, leaving purple marks from their aggressive desire. Gaz held your hand to his crotch and rubbed it across the front, making you feel his hardening rod, encouraging you to stroke him. Johnny was busying himself with your pants, aching to put his mouth on your molten core, and just the thought of his tongue was enough to make you shiver.
Ghost bent to suck at your nipples, peeling your shirt and bra off in one go, and you held his head, cradling him with as much affection as you could muster, but as you looked up at you, he knew there was something wrong.
“Hey, stop.”
The others, as if burned, immediately stopped their worship of your body and looked up at you.
Ghost continued to pry,
“What is it, love?”
“I just…” You could feel yourself start to cry.
“You miss him, don’t you?”
The realization hit you like a ton of bricks. You may have forgiven Simon, Johnny, and Kyle, but you missed John. You needed him there. Without him, even their kisses felt hollow.
“We’ll bring him back to you, dinnae fash, hen,” Soap reassured you, throwing on his shirt.
“C’mon, he’s in the gym. I saw him with his bag,” Ghost followed Soap out of your door, hard as a stone and trying to adjust himself to something a little less indecent.
Gaz kissed your lips, his full mouth warm and tasting of cinnamon sugar,
“Be right back, pretty girl.”
You waited five minutes, then ten. You decided to lay down, just for a moment, and before you knew it, you were out.
You weren’t sure how long you slept, but you woke up in someone’s arms, opening your eyes and watching as he lay you in the big, combined bed the five of you shared. You turned to see his face when you felt him crawl into the sheets beside you, blinking the sleep away and trying to catch your bearings.
“John?” You croaked, struggling to find your voice.
“Shh,” he whispered, “Go back to sleep, little bird.”
“They told me…”
“I know. They bloody well shouldn’t have. You need them. You’re both going to need them.”
“I can’t be mad anymore, John. I’m so tired. I just want you all back. Please,” you clutched at his chest, drawing him closer to you in the small bed, “Don’t leave me again.”
“I’m not goin’ anywhere, Sparrow. Here. Feel?”
John’s huge cock was half-hard, and he fit it inside you, slipping it into your wet pussy, squeezing himself through you, just as he loved to do, letting you warm him up. The shock of it went right to your head, and you gasped, hiding your face in the fur of his chest, letting his arms wrap around you protectively.
“I’ll stay right here, birdie. As long as you want me to.”
“Aye,” Soap’s voice spoke up in the darkness, deep and low, “We all will. Tha’s a promise, lass.”
One by one, each of your men came back into the bed, laying their heavy arms over you and each other, bodies and limbs tangled and gripping at whatever flesh they could find.
You felt Ghost’s hand slide over your hip, resting his hand on your belly protectively. Gaz leaned over Price to kiss you before settling his arm over the captain’s ribs, his arm cradling your arm as you cuddled with John. Soap’s feet were wrapped around yours, keeping them warm.
As he hardened inside of you, John kissed your forehead softly.
“I love you.”
“I love you, too, John.”
A part of you was still upset at how heavy-handed they had been with your independence, but you felt your smooth muscles fluttering against John’s cock, and it was getting harder and harder to hold onto the anger that you so desperately wanted to let go of.
As they all settled in to sleep, you decided to try and rekindle the bond that had been broken. You rocked your hips forward, sliding your slick body up and down Price’s fat length. His eyes shot open, burning into you with a dark passion.
“Little bird?”
Your lips found his neck, trailing wet kisses up to his earlobe, taking it in your mouth and suckling at his skin.
“Not tired, love?” Simon asked, planting his own kisses on your shoulder blades, coaxing your hips to rock back and forth, chasing your high.
“You need us, innit tha’ right, lass?” Johnny’s fingers reached over your hip, following Simon’s and then trailed down, finding your swollen clit and rubbing slow, tight circles around it, making you soften around Price like an opening bud, petting your petals until you practically unfurled for him.
“Ungh, Garrick. What are you… “ Price growled through gritted teeth.
You watched as Kyle licked his hand and tucked it behind John’s back, heading for his tight asshole, fucking him gently on his fingers.
“Keep fucking our girl, Cap. She needs you,” Kyle told him, “I’ll take care of you, sir.”
“I’m not as patient as the sergeant is, lover,” Simon rustled under the sheets to find his cock, and he held it in his fist, pumping it against your plump ass cheek, “Will you let me in?”
You turned over your shoulder and let him kiss you, feeling his soft lips slide against yours, giving him your tongue to suck on as his hands kneaded your sensitive breast.
“Yes, Si,” you whispered, “Anything you want.”
You thought his reaction to your words was a little over the top, but Ghost was reacting to Soap, ducked below the sheets, eating his asshole, shoving his tongue deep in the tight opening, prepping him for more.
Simon tucked his cock between your legs, spitting on his hand and rubbing it on you and himself, lubing you up in a messy, frantic sort of way, too desperate to care about finding a bottle of gel somewhere in the room.
Johnny was already rutting into his lieutenant, making Simon’s cock leak and jump, excited and drooling for its own warm hole. When you felt his head touch your asshole, you sighed at the tingling electricity building there, eager to be stretched by him. Finally, he popped into your ass, and he began to fuck himself up into you, inch by inch, filling you up.
Price was grinding his fat dick inside of you, and he groaned when he felt Simon join him on the other side, making you even tighter, forcing the captain to struggle to fit.
Soon, all five of you were fucking each other at the same time, moaning and kissing and licking one another’s skin, twisted together in a wet mess, and you had never felt such pleasure before. It was as if you were all on the edge, ready to come at the faintest breath of an orgasm, waiting for the spark to ignite the whole room into an explosion of ecstacy.
“Mmf-fuck!” Simon’s hand wrapped itself around your neck, “Your fuckin’ arsehole feels like heaven, love.”
“Dinnae stop, Si. I can feel when you bottom out in her. Makes you so tight, mate,” Johnny begged him, pinching the lieutenant’s nipples between his fingers over and over, teasing him relentlessly.
“You alright, little bird?” John asked you, kissing you softly, barely dragging his lips across yours, dreamily moving against you harder and harder, chasing his pleasure, “Fuckin’ Garrick is takin’ away my stamina every time he rams into me like that. Gonna make me come too quick, Gaz.”
“Sorry, sir,” Kyle smiled, giving you a wink, as he licked and nipped at the same earlobe that you had, remembering how much he loved that spot, “Feels too good to stop.”
“Don’t stop,” you moaned, wrapping your hands around John’s shoulders, holding on for dear life, “Don’t ever stop.”

It's a MoD Harry time-travel Tomarry WIP! ---
The first time Harry tried to change the course of Tom Riddle’s life, it had been too late.
He’d saved Myrtle, thank Merlin, but Riddle had known it was Professor Evans that had thwarted him. Within just a few weeks Harry had been led out of the Great Hall by an aptly-named Professor Burly, his lip turned in disgust and his grip on Harry’s arm crushing. Three fifth year girls had accused him of being far more… hands-on as a DADA professor than was appropriate. They even had the memories to prove it, apparently.
The girls were from families just influential enough to sway the school board and just unimportant enough to not make the headlines. Professor Evans would fade into obscurity, and the girls would suffer no long lasting damage to their social standing.
It was calculated. It was artful.
It was Riddle all over.
Riddle’s face had been impassive as Harry was marched from the hall that evening, but his eyes glittered in triumph. Riddle’s mind glanced across his own, grasping carefully for surface thoughts in a way the Slytherin likely thought was undetectable.
Well played, Harry thought forcefully, and watched with satisfaction as Riddle’s brow first crinkled in confusion and then furrowed in earnest when Harry flung him from his mind. Harry had never mastered Occlumency himself, never had the knack for it, but there were some perks that came with his… position.
Death? Harry thought. An iciness bloomed in his temple and blew across his mind like a cool breeze localised entirely within his skull. It shouldn't have been comforting.
Master. Death said into his mind, an echoing whisper of infinite voices. You are done with this life?
Can I stop him from mutilating his bloody soul in this one?
Death was silent for a moment, tracing the strings of his and Riddle’s fates. He'd shown them to Harry once, gossamer webs glowing faintly gold and spanning infinitely through the white fog of limbo. He wasn't sure how Death made sense of them, and he wasn't keen to learn.
No.
Harry glanced at Professor Burly, his wand drawn as he marched Harry through the halls towards the professor's wing.
Will they think Burly killed me if I leave right now?
Death’s Yes rattled with something like amusement as he breathed it across Harry’s mind.
“Good,” Harry said out loud. Burly startled, his grip loosening a bit in surprise. Harry stopped walking and turned to face him.
“You’ve always been a bit of a prick, Burly.”
Harry wrenched himself back, his vision white as he untethered his soul from his body. He blinked the fog of the transition away and watched from the outside as his body crumpled like a puppet whose strings had been cut. Burly’s rage at Harry’s last declaration morphed into increasing horror as he first cast a diagnostic spell and then desperately tried to shake Harry back to life.
Smug in the knowledge that Burly’s life was about to get very unpleasant, Harry returned to Death’s domain to rest before he tried his hand at changing the course of Riddle’s life again.

We talk about jealous and possessive ex-husband Price, BUT WHAT ABOUT JEALOUS AND POSSESSIVE EX-WIFE! Their at a school event for their kids and Price is running late but he promised his kids he'll be there, Ex-wife is mingling with the other moms and when he shows up A LOT of eyes are on him, some moms are even bold to make some flirtatious comments (Imagine if Ex-wife slips up when one of them asks who he is and she just says without thinking "Oh that's my husband" a little too loud and he overhears, I'm obsessed with the slip ups as you can see) and some heaven forbid get a little too handsy with him trying to casually brushing up against him or giggling a little too much and playfully hitting his bicep. Price knows EXACTLY what he's doing as he watches her glare at everyone who gets too friendly with him. 🤭
One of the moms in the PTA approaches you and asks if the divorce has been finalized and her tone immediately puts you on guard. You answer "Yes?" so hesitantly and then feel your blood go cold as ice when she smiles and asks if it would be alright if she asked your ex on a date then, since the two of you aren't involved anymore.
You're too conflicted and irked to say anything other than a terse, "Sure" but when you go home that evening and John is there with the kids since you had to be out late and he came over to watch them, you feel something in you give. Just a little bit. You pull him to the bedroom and practically wrench his belt open, sinking to your knees before you've even pulled his cock out.
You make him promise in bed later that he won't ever.
"Won't what, darling?" Fingers playing with the ends of your hair, looping it around his finger again and again. John plays at not knowing, but you see it buried in the glimmer in his eyes.
"You know what."
"I do?" He must see the pinched look on your face, even from where your cheek is smushed against his chest because his smirk immediately softens, big hand smoothing the hair from your face. "You know I wouldn't, pumpkin."
You feel infinitely fragile in that moment, like glass that might shatter in his hands. "You can't, okay? I know we're - I know it's not reasonable, but you...you really can't. Okay?"
John pulls you up until your head is just tucked under his chin, until all he has to do is pull back the smallest amount to press a soft kiss to the top of your head. "I know, darling, I know. It's just us, right? No one else."
You don't know if it'll change anything. Real life still complicates your marriage, still makes you bend and twist into incomprehensible shapes. But at least you know you can do so without the fear of completely losing him. You still sit at the centre of his world and he yours.

diasomnia month // prompt 07 — babies (shamelessly inspired by @irafuwas)
" . . . to have a child - it is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body."
Tumblr media
"Lilia."
He's never heard Malleus' voice be so gentle, a sotto voce reverberation that warms the hushed stillness around them. It has an odd quality to it, but he cannot find the desire to glance up at his prince, not when it would require him to wrench his gaze away from the tender sight before him.
"Look, Malleus," he whispers back, equally as soft in a tone that his tongue remembers instinctively, like settling into well-loved home. "I only just got him to sleep, he was fussing every time that I tried to set him down."
"Lilia, it is time. The potion has been ready for quite a while now, do you not think Silver would like to be himself once more?"
Lilia would argue most passionately that Silver is himself, the most precious version of himself that he could possibly be, and the baby in his arms burbles something sleepily in what Lilia takes as apparent agreement, shifting tiny limbs closer to the comforting lull of Lilia's own heartbeat.
Time. How could he have enough of it? How could he so easily relinquish this moment, this gift of his child returned to him? For years he had thought that the ache in his arms was the residual keen of a weapon's weight— the moment that Crewel had handed over his helpless child, a result of a potion experiment gone wrong, he had almost wept in relief.
This, his body remembers. To be a father, not a warrior, is what it always yearns for.
" . . . Just a few minutes more, Malleus," and the younger fae cannot help but stare at him with a bittersweet twist to his lips, watching what must be a familiar scene play out with the sense that he's become an intruder. It feels like it would be a crime to pry the child out of Lilia's embrace (as if he would even allow it, as if this enchanted, heartsick fae would not turn feral at anyone who tried to separate him from his son), and he can only stand witness to the way that the retired general croons a lullaby and strokes his claws through the baby's fine, silver hair with infinite grace.
It is no surprise to anyone that the antidote goes unused until the rosy hours of the dawn.

In the Shadow of Speculation Part 1
Part 2, Ao3
Daniel Nightingale, ex Fenton, moves to Gotham for a fresh start. It's next to his friends, it's so very different from Amity Park, and Lady Gotham has promised her Knights will protect him. The world as he knew it has changed, and no longer has a place as a combat hero. Not when he's more likely to flinch than to dodge, not when the sight of a knife is enough to force him back to a time and a place he never wanted to see again. In an attempt to adapt, Danny turns to being a specialized hero-medic; his sole focus is helping and evacuating, not fighting. Except that no one told him Death Energy had the same reading to Geiger counters as gamma radiation. It isn't, but apparently Geiger counters can't tell the difference.
Danny Nightingale plopped down on his new couch, taking a moment to breathe in that new apartment smell. It was a pleasant, three bedroom apartment in a relatively nice area of Gotham.
Well, nice for ghosts. Specifically, the sheer amount of emotions around the place, both past and present, made it an ideal spot for a healing ghost to situate himself.
Danny felt that the more important point was that he finally had a place to himself.
He was tired of everyone coddling him, acting like he was going to break if he was even touched wrong. But luckily, Gotham was so far away from any kind of city his family would want to visit that he was free to dodge their nannying.
When he had woken up from the…Accident, it was to a political shitstorm; the Infinite Realms had been gearing up for war, and surprisingly Dan had been the only thing stopping them. The negotiations between dimensions had been a nightmare, especially with the sheer amount of effort it took to keep the Justice League’s nose out of his business, but it had been worth it.
Ghosts were considered sapient entities, were acknowledged to be from essentially a different country/dimension, and the ghosts that lived on Earth and had been negatively affected by the laws that were in place were entitled to compensation for the violation to their persons.
Added bonus, Danny could stay.
The first place he had chosen had been Gotham; it was close to Sam and Tucker, and had just the right dosage of occult to meet Frostbite’s strict ecto-therapy regimen.
That, and Lady Gotham had extended an invitation.
The move had been insane, for multiple reasons.
Vlad had insisted on coming along, something about verifying that Danny wasn’t about to live in a hovel.
Vlad actually caring-in his own way-was still so weird to Danny.
But at least it had been entertaining; every single time Vlad had stepped out of the car to get something from the gas stations, he kept getting mugged.
Another headache was the fact that, on moving day alone, there were three separate rogue attacks, and traffic had backed up so badly Danny was almost convinced to blow his cover and just fucking fly to his new place.
Which would be the last thing Dan needed-someone with his powers cropping up in a city on the other side of the country. Dan had enough on his plate with his whole…thing he’d decided on doing; the world as a whole declaring that his natural born nemesis was opposite sides of the country would throw a wrench in his rehabilitation.
The man had enough problems.
Like Danny had enough problems, but strangely only when Vlad was around.
The car Vlad had been driving had hit every single pothole and broken both axles, and overall Danny had the sense that Vlad should probably have never set foot in the city.
Honestly, the absolute second Vlad had left the move had gone much smoother.
Like, Danny had still had to pay the movers extra for the rogue attacks, vicinity to crimes (thanks Vlad for getting mugged so often that the muggers just started taking clothing items), and traffic; but after his Godfather had left it had been done in about two hours flat.
Did he still have to unbox his belongings? Yes. Was he going to do that at that particular moment?
Danny flopped sideways and brought his cell phone up to his face.
No. No, he was not.
He was going to take a breather, fall asleep on his new couch, read the news and watch some random memes, and enjoy his Restitution Money.
Danny had only been scrolling on his phone for two minutes when he fell asleep.
~~~~~~
Danny woke up to the sounds of muffled screams.
“Well that’s never good,” He muttered as he tried to roll over. He landed on the floor instead.
Right.
He hadn’t put the bed together yet.
Groaning, Danny pushed himself up for the purpose of hunting down where he’d put his poptarts. Only once he’d opened a box and started digging through it did he realize that the muffled screams were not coming from his definitely dead phone.
They were coming from outside.
Danny tripped over his feet as he bolted for the window, pressing his face against the glass as he stared down at the streets in disbelief.
The streets were filled with a green, noxious gas. People collapsed onto the ground only to scream and claw at their own faces. Some were attacking others, and anyone who left to assist had gas masks on.
Not that the masks did much good, considering the citizens who had been dosed would freak out and rip it off of them.
Batman and Red Hood were on scene, but they were so focused on cornering and catching the freak in the scarecrow costume that the only one able to assist the civilians was Robin. Unfortunately, as well trained as Robin was, there were too many.
Robin was doing the best he could, Danny could see that, but he was clearly over-burdened and needed assistance.
Danny…was appalled. This was the most ineffective rogue fight he’d ever witnessed.
When he’d been in charge of Amity, his citizens had only rarely been caught in the crossfire, and he never had a casualty. But here was one of the Big Leaguers and his cohorts, and they couldn’t arrange for the civilians to be treated or get to safety.
Danny, with no means to protect himself and unsure of how the gas would effect him, a halfa, could only watch from the window of his sixth story apartment.
Twenty minutes.
It had taken Batman and Red Hood twenty minutes to take down Scarecrow.
Danny had watched the whole thing.
Twenty minutes, thirty-two injured, nine dead, twelve critically injured.
And Danny, tied by the red tape of bureaucracy and his own trauma, hadn’t been able to do anything.
~~~~~~
A day later, full of unpacking and getting his apartment set up while he ignored the sounds of the emergency workers outside his window, Danny couldn’t stop seeing the attack.
There was so much room for improvement, but Batman apparently didn’t have anyone specifically trained in only defense and evacuation.
Danny had been so, so lucky for Sam and Tucker and Jazz. They had tag-teamed it; one of them would help him fight, the other two would evacuate civilians.
Batman was good at what he did, Danny could not deny that.
But there was room for improvement that was just…there. It was right there.
Danny couldn’t offer his services as Phantom. He couldn’t. He just…every time he thought about donning his old hero moniker, he’d start remembering.
If he started remembering, he became useless until he was able to remember that he was still alive.
And being a combatant, in and of itself, was highly…dissatisfying.
No sleep, constant injuries, threat of exposure hanging over his head; Danny’d had enough in high school. He had a whole life separate from that, in a city so big and problematic that just donating used clothes was enough to save someone’s life.
He was doing better. He could finally sleep without nightmares, people reaching out to touch him didn’t make him flinch, and he was away from a town of people who had made his childhood a living hell even before he’d had the Accident.
He refused to ask Dan to step in; the man was needed where he was, and Danny couldn’t drag away a teacher from his students.
Ellie was in college, and Danny wasn’t about to interrupt her education to drag her into the vigilante lifestyle she never even showed real interest in.
On top of his many, many other reasons for just not wanting to get into fights anymore.
Instead he took his frustrations out on kneading the dough on his counter.
His phone buzzed.
      Ellie       Omggggggggggg I don’t know what’s so hard???       Just bully Dan into doing it!
Danny snorted and allowed his hands to go intangible, the dough stuck to his fingers sliding back onto the counter, before he touched his phone to reply.
      Danny       Omggggggggg I literally can’t do that       P sure ur the only one who can bully him       He’s a pushover but only 4 u
He set his phone down and continued stress-baking. Ellie would take a bit to respond, since she wasn’t even supposed to have her phone on her at work.
But apparently Ellie had decided that she did not care.
      Ellie       Lies and slander       He’s scared of me I just know it       Also imma kill my customers
      Danny       Don’t commit murder        Diplomatic immunity only goes so far       I don’t need an inter-dimensional incident
      Danny       Ellie?       Ellie no       Don’t actually kill a human
      Ellie       This dude won’t get off my call       He’s so annoying danny I gotta       I       I’m gonna do a ring
      Danny       Ellie NO
      Ellie       Ellie yes brb
Ellie stopped responding after that, and Danny groaned.
She was absolutely going to cause an inter-dimensional incident.
~~~~~~
Ellie was going to cause an inter-dimensional incident.
But it wasn’t her fault!
The stupid caller-Kent or whatever-was being a total ass!
“Sir,” she tried, one last time, “I cannot assist you with this matter. Either you let me transfer you to someone who can, or I’m going to crawl through this phone and kick your ass.”
“Tt. Even if you were a meta capable of such a feat, I highly doubt you could best me in combat.”
“I warned you.”
Ellie let her form fall away, distantly hearing the screams of her coworkers, and traveled through the phone connection.
Her arm burst from the cell phones ear piece and clocked someone across the face. Then she let the rest of herself crawl through, as eldritch as she could make it without actually driving anyone insane.
There was a scream of terror on her right, but she only had eyes for the tanned asshole in front of her with the bloody nose.
Then she let loose on him.
Surprisingly, he managed to block most of her attacks once he came to his senses.
Most of them.
She just started cheating after that and phasing through his hands to connect to his body.
There was a brief moment where the terrified one to her right tried to intervene, but both she and the Kevin kicked him in the face with a joint “Stay out of this!”.
He stayed out of it.
After fifteen minutes of rough-housing, which was what it had definitely turned into, Ellie wiped the blood away from her nose and held out her hand to the man she was sitting on.
“That was a nice fight; the names Ellie.”
The man paused, hesitated…and shook her hand.
“It was admirable. I am Damian.”
“Um…” Ellie and Damian both turned to look at the other man in the room, a blue eyed black haired carbon copy of her brother almost. But like, younger.
“I’m Jon. You kick pretty hard!”
“Thanks! Well I am definitely fired. What was the real reason for calling, anyways?”
Damian sat up and forced Ellie to fall off of him, his face slowly turning red.
“I didn’t realize that my dad’s card would get charged when I made an app store purchase,” Jon admitted quietly, “Damian was trying to annoy customer service into canceling the transaction so dad wouldn’t find out.”
Ellie wheezed from her spot on the ground, laughing harder when Damian turned and left the room in a huff.
“So…is that something you could go back and-?”
“You’re so fucked my dude.”
~~~~~~
Danny checked his care package while he waited for the Arkham guards to finish verifying his visitation rights.
Muffins? Check. Pretzels? Check. Cookies? Check. Donuts? Check. Fudge? No.
Danny still hadn’t been able to make himself use his father’s recipe.
He wasn’t sure when he would be able to.
It looked like when the guards had checked everything for escape tools they hadn’t eaten anything.
Danny felt strangely offended by that.
“Alright, you’re clear. Good luck.”
“Thanks,” Danny sighed, walking away from the last semblance of normalcy and into what could only be described as hell for the mentally stable.
Arkham was a place that radiated the pull to help, the pull to heal, but was overrun by lifetimes of grudges nothing short of burning the place down would ever be able to fix.
It was, unfortunately, the only place capable of holding his parents.
Who he could hear as they were led to the visitation rooms.
“Danny!” Maddie Fenton cried, attempting to throw herself at him. The chain that was held by her accompanying guards, however, yanked her back.
“Dann-o!” Jack cried as he was hauled through the other door, power-dampening cuffs active. He had far too many guards to attempt to launch forward; after he’d broken four walls, Arkham had stopped taking chances.
“Hey mom, hey dad,” Danny said weakly, placing the care package on the table, “Everything is even, so you should both get the same amount.”
“Aw, our baby boy is so considerate!” Maddie cooed, reaching forward and pinching Danny’s cheek before the guards could tug her back out of range.
“So, I just wanted to know how you guys were settling in-“
“Have you seen any ghosts in Gotham, Dann-o?”
Danny took a deep breath through his nose.
“It doesn’t matter if I did or did not, dad; they’re a protected species with rights now.”
“Oh, pish-posh,” Maddie laughed, already digging into the package and pulling out a pretzel, “So what if the government fell for their acting? You know, when we caught Phantom-“
“-When you caught Phantom, you nearly started an inter-dimensional war,” Danny cut in, hiding his shaking fists under the table.
Maddie leveled him with her most disappointed look, while Jack laughed merrily.
“Come on, Dann-o, you fell for it’s rambling too? Ah, well. We found out so much when it turned into that weird jewel-“
“-When you mortally wounded the King of an entire Dimension, almost forever scarring relations between this one and that one-“
“-Young man, we really are happy to see you, but if you’re just going to quote ghost propaganda at us-“
“-It isn’t propaganda, you guys just don’t listen-“
“-Dann-o, if you’re possessed by ectoplasmic scum, just blink twice-“
Danny stood up, chair clattering to the ground, and turned for the exit.
“…I’ll come again in two weeks. Please actually talk to your doctors and at least try to get better.”
He couldn’t do it. He thought he could, but he just. He couldn’t.
Every time they spoke about ghosts, he was back in the lab, strapped to a metal table, begging them to stop, refusing to turn human regardless of how hard his body fought to.
He wouldn’t allow it.
Not because he thought it would get worse, but because if he had turned human during their…experiments, he would have died.
Humans could not survive what had been done to him.
He ignored their yelling and made his way out of Arkham, dodging the pitying looks from the workers and guards.
He didn’t remember getting on the subway. He didn’t recall anything about his walk through Park Row.
He only came back to himself far after the sun had set, curled up in the bathtub, eyes dry and tired from watching the door.
~~~~~~
Jazz gently tapped Dan’s boots as she walked towards the kitchen, reminding him that shoes were not allowed on the coffee table.
The large man grumbled but acquiesced.
“So how are the kids?” Jazz asked over her shoulder, flipping the oven light on to check on the roast hidden inside.
“There’s a new upstart in Iowa, calls himself Jupiter. Can’t be older than nine, one of the biggest crybabies I’ve ever had to train.”
Jazz snorted.
“Are we basing this off of their first look at you, or just how they behave in general?”
Dan didn’t answer.
Jazz read between the lines and stifled a laugh.
Little Jupiter had definitely cried upon seeing Dan.
“Did you go see Lian, then?”
“Fuck yeah I saw Lian! She’s so big, no wonder I couldn’t find her in the Realms!”
Jazz listened to Dan wax poetic about Roy’s daughter, letting him get it off his chest. After Lian had died, Dan had been as inconsolable as was possible for the emotionally stunted man. He’d spent countless hours in the Infinite Realms, searching for her, only to return heartbroken that he couldn’t find her.
He was convinced she was so doused with ecto-contamination due to her exposure to him that she would absolutely become a ghost.
But when she’d passed, there hadn’t been a trace of one. No matter how hard he’d searched, he’d never found her.
Because apparently, she’d been alive.
“-Anyways, how’s the twerp doing?”
Jazz tuned back in.
“Sorry?”
“Little me. How’s he doin?”
“Danny’s as tall as you are, Dan.”
Dan appeared at her side and phased his hand through the oven to swipe some roast.
“Doesn’t matter, I’m older. He okay?”
Jazz shrugged.
“He’s…awake. Well enough to be on his own.”
“Fucked up he stays in the same town as Maddie and Jack.”
Jazz shrugged again, a little more helplessly.
“How he chooses to heal is up to him, Dan.”
“He shouldn’t be near them,” Dan growled, causing some of the silverware to vibrate.
Jazz tensed and mentally prepared herself for the exact same argument that had brought Dan to her doorstep.
“Dan-“
“A four year coma, Jazz.”
“-It’s his choice, Dan.”
“They made him retreat into his core.”
“I know.”
“He shouldn’t be anywhere near them!”
“I know!” Jazz shouted, whirling on him, shoulders heaving as she felt her eyes glare a bright luminescent green.
They stared at each other, until ultimately Jazz won again, and Dan looked away.
“I know,” Jazz said, quieter, pulling out her phone to check it one more time, “I know, but the world has changed so much since he went down, and if this is how he wants to explore it then I won’t stop him.”
An uncomfortable silence settled over them, until the oven let out an obnoxious tune. No one moved.
“…Roast is done,” Dan said helpfully.
Jazz ignored him, eyes on the screen of her phone.
“Hey.”
She reread what Danny had sent her.
“Hey, Jazz-”
“I need to talk to Danny,” she muttered, picking up the oven mitts and tossing them at Dan as she walked towards her bedroom.
After she shut the door quietly behind her, she called her little brother.
The phone didn’t even complete the first ring before he picked up.
“Danny, are you alright?” She knew that he knew going to see their parents had been a terrible idea, and pointing that out would do no one any good.
So instead she focused on him.
“I don’t think so,” Danny said, his voice much smaller than it had any right to be.
Jazz tamped down on her instinctive need to ask a million questions and sat down on her bed instead.
“That’s fine, Danny; it’s perfectly okay to not be okay. Do you need to me to talk?”
“Yes.”
So Jazz did.
I'm trying a different method of writing, so this will be a bit different. Mostly because for this particular story I'm world-building alongside it.
Hero meets Villain in a dream.
////
“How’d you get in here?”
“Through the door?” Hero gestured behind him and then paused. A corridor stretched out past his fingers, meandering into darkness.
“You’re in my mind.” Villain waved down at Hero’s feet. “Treading your dirty footprints all over my thoughts.”
“In your mind? Certainly not.” Hero looked around. The hall had widened into a room with slate-gray walls and oval windows that seemed to slip downward every time he blinked. One window was on the floor. The glass encased a squirming, oily blackness.
“You need to get out.” As Villain stomped over the floor-window, the tiles shuddered, spilling into mounds of white sand. The roof yawned open to a soft, purple twilight. “I was trying to spell you out of my head and I’ve made a mess of everything. You’re sleeping right now, aren’t you? Your soul has a habit of wandering.”
“I do remember going to bed before this.” Hero glanced down. His feet were bare and the wind slipped past his ankles and the wide hem of his pajama pants. Frantically, he reached for his face. Chilled metal met his fingers—his mask was still on.
“Your soul will hide what wants to be hidden. You don’t have to worry about that.” Villain groaned and stomped again, but the scene remained the same. The white sand dissolved into a silvery sea. Though a breezed curled across the beach, the water was still, an infinite mirror reflecting the bruise-blue horizon, and Hero considered it, wondering what would happen if he disturbed its surface. “You’ll go once you wake up anyways.”
“I’ve been here before, haven’t I?” He stepped forward. The sand was too soft and whispered against his heel like silk.
“You shouldn’t remember that.” Villain whirled around.
“I don’t,” Hero murmured, walking toward the water, “it’s just a feeling, you know.”
Villain sighed and followed him. Together, they marched, but the sea never grew closer. “You tried this the last time as well,” Villain explained, “and you never make it far.”
“So, I’ve been in your mind before.” Hero turned, following the shoreline instead. Waves crashed and gulls called faintly, though nothing moved, and the sky was bare. “Why haven’t you attacked me? I’m sure you can expel me from your mind. You feel powerful.”
“The soul will not do what it does not wish to.”
“You want me here?”
“The company is nice. I haven’t seen anybody in a while.” The sand grew sharp underfoot, furling into blades of grass, and pines sprouted up between thick, gauzes of mist. Fog hung on the air and perspired over Hero’s skin.
“You being here, it shouldn’t be possible.” Villain gestured toward the haze and the barest silhouettes of mountains beyond. “Of course, there is always the chance that you could be a figment of my mind, but I have little skill with conjuring sentient things. I can only hope that it’s you and that I’m not alone.”
“You’re trapped.”
“Astute observation.” Rain fell softly as Villain stopped, canting his head toward the sky. “It usually takes you far longer to realize that.”
“How many times have I been here?” Hero stared past Villain, at the pines, whose limbs ruffled like great, dark feathers. From their gnarled roots, the trees twisted upwards. Their crowns pierced the fog.
“You forget.” Villain held his face with his hands. The trees braided, expanded, and domed over where they stood, till everything was emerald and reeked of mulched earth and spruce. “It doesn’t matter. Everything I tell you, you always forget, but you always come back. You never remember me and I’m tired of meeting you, for the first time, every time.”
“I’m sorry.”
“You wouldn’t be, if you remembered me.” The green turned black, into roiling nothingness. “We knew each other in the waking world, but it seems you’ve forgotten me there as well.”
Hero strode through the abyss and wrenched Villain’s hands from his face. He had a nose, cheeks, lips, jaw; he had everything that should compose a face and yet Hero couldn’t arrange it, couldn’t piece it together. His eyes were the only thing that didn’t swim and when Hero looked into them, he tumbled forward, onto the cold tile of the grey room.
He staggered to his feet. The windows were gone, but a door replaced them. It was simple, white, and had a shining brass handle, but Hero never reached for it.
Turning back, he called out a name.
“[Villain]?”
