I'm so annoyed, my best friend has such an asshole for a husband. He basically never pays attention to her, all he cares about sport, beer and his friends. He never helps around the house and he's a lazy slob! He's always at the gym or going to the game with his bros. He's such a prick, maybe he should just be date his bros since he's so obsessed with them. He's always complaining about his wife "bothering him". Plus who would want to marry a slob anyway, as a husband he should be devoted to cleaning his house and caring about who he is married to.
I think I found the guy you're talking about, and you're totally right about him being an asshole. Your friend deserves better than an uncaring, selfish, pig-of-a-husband. That girl has tolerated him for too long! She won't be seeing him or his sexist buddies ever again when I'm done here...
Tumblr media
Just look at him! The first thing he does when he gets home is grab a beer and park that fat ass of his on the couch. Sure, he might hit the gym later on his way to the bar, but he's not planning on helping his wife out with dinner. He's not really planning on talking to her at all until he needs a blow job later tonight.
You mentioned his name was Brett, I think?
Well, Brett can barely hold a job. He's lucky you gave him a chance and got him a gig as a delivery man. I think he's been doing this for a month now, but he absolutely resents the work. Brett can't really enjoy anything unless he has a beer in his hand, and he absolutely hates wearing that stuffy little uniform.
Nevertheless, he's been consistently showing up so far; probably because his wife is waking him up, washing his clothes, and feeding him breakfast. Brett essentially only uses her as a maid and sex toy!
It's a good thing I've got something planned for Brett today as he starts his delivery rounds. He doesn't notice me following as he grumpily carries a package out of his truck, and he doesn't have time to react when I reach out and grab the back of his head.
Tumblr media
"You're not going to move," I command, sinking my fingers into the soft parts of his skull, "You're going to let me in."
A deep sigh blows out of Brett's mouth, and I know his willpower is gone. "I'm not going to move. I'll let you in..." he repeats numbly.
With permission, I shoot inside his mind, discovering much of what I expected. His thoughts revolve around meeting up with his bros after work. He hasn't genuinely cared to think about his wife in ages. His mind is just as simple and unlikeable as he is.
Good thing I'm here to change it!
"Brett, I'm changing your thoughts. You like that. You want me to rewrite you."
"You're..." he struggles to form words, "You're changing my thoughts. I like that. I want you to rewrite me..."
"Good," I grin maliciously.
Bringing my lips closer to his ear, I begin to fill his head with his new personality. He accepts all his new goals and dreams wholeheartedly. I imagine, you will like them. They're the ones you asked for...
Done for now, I pull out of his mind, whipping Brett back into consciousness! He gasps for air as he regains his senses, but then something overtakes him. He's taken off running down the street!
Tumblr media
I follow behind, knowing exactly where he'll end up. I must say that I enjoy watching his thick ass jogging away in those tight brown shorts. He's a lot more muscular than I gave him credit for.
I'm sure his new husband will enjoy that body of his too.
Brett sprints several blocks and runs straight up to a house at the end of the street. It's the home of one of his football buddies. I think his name might be Axel or Alex or something. I'm not sure.
Anyways, Brett bangs on the door, panting like a dog. When the door is finally opened, he wastes no time. Brett pulls his bro in for the long passionate kiss he's been waiting for.
Tumblr media
"Dude?" his friend mumbles as their lips part, "What are you doing?"
Little does he know that I already hypnotized him, too. He's going to accept everything Brett does like it's what he's wanted all along.
"Axel! Man, I love you!" Brett moans, pulling his football buddy in closer, "I want you to marry me. I'll quit my job and be your housewife. I'll be better at that! And you can boss me around and use me however you want, bro! I mean everything; cooking, cleaning, everything!"
"Woah, dude! That's a lot to take in," he hesitates, but already his mind is giving in, "But yeah. I like the sound of that. Being my wife means more than just cooking and cleaning though."
Brett looks at his new love earnestly. Meanwhile, Axel straightens up and crosses his arms to look rough.
"It means pleasure, whenever I want it and wherever I want it. It means you only get to watch the football games in between you serving me and my friends. By the way, they're just my friends now. Got it, dude?"
"Yeah," Brett whines, "Just let me start now!"
Axel smirks and pulls his new house husband into the house, giving him a possessive slap on the butt as they pass over the threshold.
"Alright, bitch. I'm gonna treat you just as bad as you did that old girl of yours."
"Who?" Brett asks out of genuine confusion, but he's already brushed off the comment and dropped to his knees.
"I don't know. Don't care either," Axel sneers, "Just get started. Haven't blown a load all day."
The faint sound of repetitive gagging echoes out of the house as the front door slams shut. It seems like my work here is done.
The football gang will enjoy having a very willing bro to take care of all their needs, and Brett will do it with a genuine smile on his face. That friend of yours is a free woman, so I suggest she find something fulfilling to do with her life. Brett may be trapped in another marriage, but she sure as hell isn't!
Hope you liked how I handled your problem!

Overture is the first official episode for Hazbin Hotel, and after nearly four years of waiting, somehow, this episode is very bad. I'm not going to provide a summary of the episode but instead I'm going to provide what I liked and what I didn't like. So let's get started.
Positives
The animation for this episode is pretty good. While it isn't really as smooth as Helluva's and has some noticeable errors, it's still well animated for the most part.
Adam's part if the song is honestly a fucking bop and thankfully the genre is different from most Helluva songs.
Tumblr media
Lute is my favorite character in this episode. She's a cold, stern Exorcist who hates demons. I have no clue why she isn't the leader, but Adam is considering how seriously she takes being an Exorcist and how professional she is for the most part.
Tumblr media
This little bit with Niffty having stage fright is pretty funny.
Tumblr media
And that's it for the positives now onto the negatives.
Negatives
One of the things I really hate about this episode is that it reveals WAY too much so early on. In this episode, it's revealed that Adam and the other Exorcists like killing Demons essentially doing it for sport, rendering Charlie's redemption useless, Exorcists are able to fucking die, and Adam has moved his schedule from another year to 6 months for the next Cleanse.
I honestly expected the first episode to show Charlie trying to redeem demons, a twist like that would've worked if it was like halfway through the season.
This episode, for some reason, has two plotlines when it would've been better if it just stuck with Charlie meeting the Exorcist one. We spent some minutes of this episode with Vaggie trying to make a TV commercial for the Hotel, however we never get to see the commercial itself, so what was the point?
Tumblr media
Secondly, why would Vaggie and Charlie ask Alastor to make a television commercial for them? His entire thing is radios. It's like having a powerlifter do a track video. They're both completely different skill sets with their own benefits.
Tumblr media
Also, if Alastor really does hate televisions THAT much, then why was he entertained when Katie and Charlie fought in the pilot by watching Televison?
Tumblr media
I'm honestly unsure whether or not the pilot for Hazbin Hotel is canon. Adam states that it has been a week since the cleanse, Vaggie states that they recruited Alastor for the hotel last week, and the pilot takes place some time after the Cleanse. While the Helluva Boss pilot isn't canon anymore, it's up in the air whether or not the Hazbin Pilot is.
This fucking cat is still confusing. It literally just appeared in this episode with no explanation of how it was made or came to be or what it even does.
Tumblr media
Adam, as a character, is one of the most irritating I've ever seen. He embodies those "If this was written by Vivziepop" memes, his singing voice is top notch, but as a character, he doesn't act any different from the demons he's supposed to kill. So it makes me question what's even the difference between Angels and Demons.
Tumblr media
Last but not least, Adam says that there won't be a Demon left alive to kill another Exorcist.
And right off the bat does Adam know that killing every Demon in Hell is literally impossible? As long as humans die, Sinners are going to keep existing. Unless if Heaven decides to make everyone into angels, which is highly unlikely. And Lute says herself that Charlie and her family are exempt from the yearly cleansing, so they're not truly getting rid of every possible threat in Hell.
Tumblr media
Overall, I'd give this episode a 5/10. It's a very rough start, especially since Vivziepop and her writers had nearly 4 years to write this out, but it's just very messy.

Home For Christmas - Jake Seresin x OC
Tumblr media
A/N: This is my entry for @bellaireland1981's Winter RomCom Writing Challenge, with the trope childhood friends. I was watching a lot of romcoms last night and felt inspired, it's definitely heavily influenced by 13 Going on 30, Just Friends + Sweet Home Alabama. (I realize only one of those is set in the winter, but I digress). I'm debating a part two/epilogue as well, if anyone is interested! Also super proud of this one, because it's the longest fic I've ever written.
pairing: Jake Seresin x OC
warnings/content: none, lots of fluff and pining. Jake's been promoted to Captain. Probably a lot of inaccuracies.
word count: 7.7k (literally my longest one yet, I'm sorry)
tagging anyone who might be interested: @littleenglishfangirl, @floydsmuse, @sailor-aviator, @mamachasesmayhem 🤍

December, 1999
“Jake! Jake, wait up!”
“Run faster then, I gotta get home before the street lights come on or my mama’s gonna be so mad she won’t let you come over tomorrow!”
“Jake, your mama’s not gonna say no to me comin’ over and you know it.”
“Jenna, how you ever gonna keep up with me when I join the navy and start having to run a few miles every day?”
Jake turned around to face you for a moment, running backwards with a grin plastered on his face, his baby-faced cheeks red from the cold, his green eyes full of mischief as he watched you try and keep up with him. His sandy blonde hair stuck out slightly from underneath his Dallas Cowboys baseball cap, a handmedown from his older brother that he rarely left home without since Matt had given it to him. He stopped running, placing his hands on his knees as he tried to catch his breath, the cold air stinging his throat as he panted. You finally managed to close the distance between the two of you, raising an eyebrow as you panted, your own cheeks ruddy from the combination of cold winter air and physical activity.
You and Jake had been best friends as long as you could remember. In eleven years, you couldn’t name a single time where the two of you had as much as had a disagreement, or went more than a few hours without talking to one another. Your mothers had been best friends in high school, and you two were destined to be best friends since birth - born four days apart in the same hospital, living on the same street and having your first play date at 10 and 7 days old. Jake was four days older than you, and he never let you forget it when it came to matters where age or maturity played a role. However, where Jake had four days more experience in the world, you had multitudes more experience in dealing with hardship than any eleven-year-old child should have.
Where Jake had the picture-perfect family - a mom, a dad, an older sister, an older brother and him, all living in perfect harmonious happiness, never as much as a doubt as to whether or not there was love in his household, you had the opposite. An absent father, an only child, and a mother who worked two jobs to try and make life better for the two of you, you spent almost every waking minute with Jake and his family, not only as an escape to experience the happy, blissfully carefree life he lived, but also, as a favour to your mother, with Mrs. Seresin often volunteering to care for you when your mother had to work late or work on weekends.
You were at the Seresin home almost every night, with Jake’s mother fussing over her best friend’s daughter, helping her lifelong friend however she could in guiding her little girl, you acting as the surrogate daughter that part of her had always wanted. Jake’s father trying to fill in the blanks where your father had lacked - offering to coach sports teams and including you in games of catch with Jake and his brother, taking you and the boys to get new baseball gloves or soccer cleats when needed, taking the three of you for ice cream after a big achievement in life. Jake’s 16 year old sister, Bethany, would take time to do your hair in the mornings before school whenever she had a chance, offering to do it in all the fun styles she and her friends wore, the kind you were often envious of, passing you old tubes of lip gloss she had lingering around in her backpack on your way to school, encouraging you to use them to your hearts content.  Even Matt, who at 14, thought his brother and his brother’s friends were the most irritating beings in existence, had offered you old sports jerseys of his that no longer fit, teasing you the same way he’d tease Jake, treating you like the little sister he never had.
Until this past summer, you found yourself wishing most days that Jake’s family would just adopt you, let your mother move in with them and the two of you could just officially be a part of their fun, bustling family that served as your cheerful escape from life. However, when elementary school ended in June with middle school looming around the corner, Bethany had pulled you aside to talk to you about the transition between schools.
“You know, middle school is…different. It’s not bad. It’s just…things change sometimes. You and Jake might start going on dates with people from school, and it might change your relationship. It happens,” She’d said matter of factly, not mincing words as she shrugged her shoulders, fixing her frosted eyeshadow in the mirror before turning to face you again.
“You might even develop feelings for each other.”
At the time, her words didn’t hold meaning for you. You and Jake had been best friends since Jake was four days old. Your moms were best friends. You practically lived in their home. There was no way things could change between you. You could never have a crush on Jake. He was Jake, the boy who would hide under his mama’s kitchen table with you and a flashlight, swapping baseball cards with one another, the boy who, when you were six-years-old, you’d witnessed eat an entire package of Oreos, then laughed at as he proceeded to throw up an hour later from the sheer volume of chocolate-vanilla sandwich cookies he’d consumed that day. Jake could never be someone you’d have a crush on. He was your best friend. That would never change.
It was two weeks later when Jake had been on the baseball diamond, pitching an inning of Little League with you in the stands watching on. His baseball cap had been flipped backwards to mimic one of his favourite major league players, his green eyes narrowing in concentration with every pitch he threw out. His golden blonde hair poked out the front of his baseball cap, much like it was doing today, on this cold January evening. His focus was on nothing but baseball, while yours was on everything but when it came to him. When he happened to look your way during the game, you felt a weird feeling in your stomach - a bubbling sensation, like nerves that couldn’t be settled. Your cheeks flushed, turning a pale pink as they became warm to the touch, reddening slightly as you felt Bethany’s gaze fall on you, a grin forming on her face as you proved her right about how your feelings were evolving for Jake.
Since that day, you’d found yourself continuing to crush on him, each day your feelings grew deeper and more intense than the day before. At this point, you almost swore you could see yourself marrying him one day. You had to admit, you knew everything there was to know about him, you always had fun with him, and he was always happy to see you - you were convinced you two could be as happy and as in love as his parents were someday when you and Jake got older. You’d never tell Jake, you just hoped and prayed that he’d realize one day that he felt the same way about you as you felt about him. You knew there was always the chance that it might not happen, but you didn’t want to think about that.  In fact, as far as you were concerned, you hoped that there was never a day where Jake didn’t love you as wholeheartedly as your little eleven year old self loved him.
❆ ❆ ❆ ❆ ❆ ❆
Present Day
“Jake, please, come back. I miss you,”
“I miss you too, Jenna, I’m coming home to you. It’s always been you.”
The ear-piercing screech of your phone’s alarm blared from your nightstand, interrupting your dream as it screamed at you. You rolled over in bed, groaning as you clumsily stuck your hand out, feeling around on the wooden side table for your phone to silence it and allow yourself a few more moments of peace and quiet before you had to start your day. The last think you wanted right now was to let this dream slip away on you - it was the closest you’d ever find yourself to Jake professing his love for you after all these years, and you clung to it whenever it cropped up in your mind as you slept.
Jake had always been the one-who-got-away for you. You spent your entire middle school years trying to hide your feelings for him, refusing to break until he said how he felt first. You were 13 when he got his first girlfriend, Tiffany Donaldson, a girl in your class. Tiffany was pretty and popular, something that you couldn’t claim for yourself in either case - growing up with Jake, you were seen as more of a teammate or a sister-figure than anything else, despite his sister’s best efforts to help you shake that connection somewhat. After Tiffany, you two had begun high school, and Jake made the football team, and the baseball team. As the school’s star runningback and starting pitcher for the varsity team, Jake was popular beyond words. No one could hold a candle to him, and as his popularity soared because of his athletic prowess in school, you faded further and further back into obscurity, the limelight falling from you and onto someone new each time Jake began dating another girl. Eventually, by the time graduation rolled around, you and Jake had all but fallen out of touch with each other outside of family get-togethers shared between your mothers.
You had just worked up the courage to tell him your feelings at the graduation party Jake’s parents had thrown for you both, convincing yourself that it was perfect timing - Jake had accepted an offer at the University of Texas at Austin, keeping close to home as he planned to study finance, his secret talent having always been math. You’d accepted an offer to study communications at the same school, and with both of you remaining local, it would be the perfect time to tell him how you felt and attempt a relationship with him, or so you thought.
Before the words could even leave your mouth, Jake was excitedly pulling you aside at the party, stopping outside of his childhood bedroom, the place where the two of you had often played as kids. His green eyes were full of excitement as he looked at you, causing your heart to race as butterflies fluttered in your stomach, making it hard to concentrate on his words. You almost didn’t hear him when he spoke, you were so transfixed on him. If the news had been anything else, you probably wouldn’t have even registered what he’d said the first time. You could still hear the excitement in his voice as he told you his news, and still feel the ache in the pit of your stomach as his words fell on your ears.
“I got accepted! I’m going to the Naval Academy, Jenna, can you believe it? I’m going to serve in the Navy, just like I always wanted. I’m going to be the best aviator they’ve ever seen. Just you watch.”
Jake’s voice was practically buzzing with excitement as he’d told you his news, and it took everything you had in you to not fall apart as he spoke. While you knew he’d always dreamed of being a naval aviator, as long as you could remember, the news hit you like a ton of bricks, unexpected and hard as it rendered you speechless, leaving you nodding your head and smiling like an idiot while inside you wanted nothing more than to scream out how you felt. You knew this could never work out between you now. Your chance was gone, moving away to Maryland and joining the Navy before you’d even had a second to realize what was happening when he spoke.
That was 17 years ago, and the moment still haunted you from time to time, more than you’d like to admit to anyone. At first, you’d kept in touch with Jake and his family, seeing Jake when he came home for holidays and such at first, but then, as you and Jake began entering your first romantic relationships as adults, you found yourselves including each other less and less in your lives. With each boyfriend you had, you realized more and more that you could never love them the way you loved Jake -he’d always be your first love, regardless of how he felt in return. When Jake graduated, he’d been stationed at NAS Lemoore, swapping Maryland for California. You’d still hear the odd update from your mother, who remained in touch with Jake’s parents, but otherwise, you didn’t ask much about Jake’s adult life. You knew he’d never married, that he’d become a Top Gun graduate, and held true to his word about becoming one of the greatest fighter pilots in the United States Navy, but other than that, you knew little about his life now. Last you had heard, last Christmas, he’d been stationed in San Diego.
You sat up in bed, yawning and stretching your body out before heaving a heavy sigh and shaking your head to rid yourself of thoughts of Jake. You were preparing for a trip back home to Texas for the holidays, spending three weeks back with your mother, part of you wishing and longing for Jake to be visiting his family at the same time, while the other part of you prayed he was staying in California or serving a tour so he wouldn’t be able to be there while you were. It had been close to 15 years since you’d seen him, and the last thing you needed was to be reminded of how you strongly you felt. You didn’t need the help from seeing him. The memories of him were more than enough to keep you clinging on.
Your phone rang and with bleary eyes, you picked it up, pressing the green button to answer the call.
“Good morning, sweetheart!” Your mother practically sang out in a voice that was far too cheerful for anyone to have at this hour.
“Hi mama, what’s up? My flight doesn’t land until this evening.”
“Well, I was talking to Mrs. Seresin about Jake, Matt and Bethany…” Your mother’s voice trailed off as she spoke, and you felt your breath hitch in your throat at the mention of Jake.
“Mhmm?” You responded as you stood up, balancing the phone to your ear with your shoulder as you folded a sweatshirt and set it down neatly on the bed, waiting to be packed.
“It turns out both of us are having our kids home for Christmas! Bethany’s coming down from Dallas with her husband and their little ones, and Matt’s coming from Oklahoma City with his fiancee, and Jake’s flying in on leave from California. He’s made his way up to Captain now, you know, Jenna. He’s made quite the career for himself.”
“Mama, I don’t need a sales pitch on why Jake Seresin is the perfect man for me, ok? He hasn’t seen me in years. He probably wouldn’t even recognize me if he saw me.”
“You never know. But I expect you to dress nicely for their Christmas party. You and I have been invited to join them, and I already said you would gladly be attending.”
“Of course you did. So Jake will be there, then?”
“I think his flight lands just before yours does today, actually. His mama and I were actually discussing if we should just carpool together to pick you both up like back when you two were in school together. Remember that? We used to take turns carting you kids back and forth from home to school.”
“I remember, mama. Don’t worry.”
“Anyway…we were talking and it turns out, Jake happens to be single.”
“Mama, why would I care that Jake’s single?” You replied, trying to sound as level-headed as possible.
“Please, Jenna. You really think I don’t know about this crush of yours you’ve been harbourin’ for years?” You could hear the laughter in your mother’s tone as she spoke, and it stung, almost as though your feelings had betrayed you.
“Mama! I haven’t had a crush on Jake in years. Not since he left for the Navy.”
“Of course not…just, do me a favour? Wear something nice for that Christmas party, ok?”
“Sure, Mama, whatever you say.”
You finished the conversation with your mother and let out an exasperated sigh as you tossed your phone onto your bed beside you. You had to be at the airport in three hours, leaving you little time to completely reconfigure your wardrobe for the next few weeks at home in Austin. Peering into your closet, scanning the items as they sat on wire hangers in the tiny space, you frowned, realizing that nothing was worthy of a reunion with Jake after all these years. At the back of the closet, you found a black, form-fitting sweater dress that you hadn’t worn in years, but, as you held it up to yourself in the mirror, you figured it could work. Part of you hoped this reunion could be the thing that’d remind Jake of what he was missing out on for the last 17 years.
As you finished packing your suitcase, you zipped it closed with a sigh, shaking your head as you tried to calm your nerves before getting yourself ready for your flight. There was a chance you could see Jake at the airport, and you knew you had to look your best, just in case.
❆ ❆ ❆ ❆ ❆ ❆
The flight from Chicago to Austin was the most painful three hours of your life. You tried to focus your attention on anything but Jake, but every movie saved on your phone, every book on your tablet, and every thought that crossed your mind was filled with him. You tried reminding yourself that he could be a totally different person from who he was when you were 18. That he could look completely different, act completely different - that he may not even know who you are anymore. The thought of Jake forgetting you was suffocating, closing in on you a little bit more every time it creeped into your mind. You took a deep breath as you departed the plane, your eyes scanning the crowd for your mother as you gripped your carry-on. Your face went white as a sheet as you saw her standing with Mrs. Serensin, both of whom waved frantically with excitement as they saw you.
“Jenna! It’s been so long, darlin’, how have you been? Your mama’s told me lots, but I feel like it’s no substitute for getting to see you in person!”
“Hi, Mrs. Serensin! I’ve been ok, how have you guys been? Haven’t seen you in about, 15 years? I think I saw y’all the one visit after Jake shipped out, but I haven’t been home much for the holidays, Mama’s usually up in Chicago visiting me.”
“We’ve been good, Bethany has two boys now, Easton and Dylan, and Matt’s met this girl, Alexis, she’s wonderful, a real sweetheart. He’s gettin’ married next summer. “
“Oh, that’s great news!” You replied cheerfully, fighting the instinct to bite your lip as she failed to mention where Jake was at in life.
“We better get going, Julie, Jake’s plane’s about to land,” Your mother said as she grabbed Mrs. Seresin’s arm excitedly, nodding her head.
“Oh, I thought Jake landed earlier?”
“He was meant to, but his flight got delayed, he’s landing in a few minutes now, I think.”
You nodded your head slowly, reluctantly following behind as your mom and Mrs. Serensin led the way to Jake’s terminal, biting the inside of your cheek as your eyes followed the signage as you walked past. You tried your best to focus on something, anything, but your nerves but so far, your nerves were winning. You were terrified. What if Jake hated you for not staying in touch? What if he forgot all about you? What if you were the last person he wanted to see? What he if came through those doors with a surprise girlfriend on his arm?
“Ma!” You heard a voice call out. You looked up to see a tall, handsome man with neatly combed blonde hair, piercing green eyes and sunkissed skin. His naval uniform was still perfectly pressed without a crease on it somehow after his flight, and he looked perfect. You knew in an instant that it was him.
“Ms. T?” He chuckled as he shook his head, pulling back from his mother’s embrace as he gave your mother a heartfelt hug, before pausing as he looked at you, a warm smile on his lips as he nodded his head, his blonde eyebrow cocked upwards in surprise.
“Jenna?”
“The one and only,” You shrugged with a smile as you tried your best to play it cool, forgetting for a moment that at 35 years old, you shouldn’t be getting tongue-tied and start giggling like a schoolgirl over a crush. The mere fact that you still had a crush on Jake was enough to make you feel like a fool.
“It’s nice to see ya, Jenna,” Jake nodded as he wrapped his arms around you, enveloping you into his embrace. You breathed in the scent of his cologne, notes of whiskey and cedarwood encircling you as his grip remained tight, yet comfortable around you, as if he was hugging his long lost friend, which, he was in a sense.
“Nice to see you too, Jake,” You nodded once as he pulled away, a soft smile on your lips as you looked at him, trying to commit this moment to memory before it drifted away on you.
You swore out of the corner of your eye, you saw your mothers exchange a look with one another, a secret signal to one another, as if a master plan of theirs was underway, and everything was beginning to come together before their eyes.
As the four of you headed out to the car together, you caught yourself repeatedly stealing glances at Jake. He hadn’t changed hardly at all since you saw him last, apart from gaining some muscle, and his cheekbones and jawline becoming a bit more defined as he’d aged. He looked incredible for 35, if you didn’t know him, you likely would have guessed he was barely 30, and you couldn’t help but feel yourself fall deeper with each stolen look at him.
“So, you’re Captain Seresin now then?” You raised an eyebrow as you looked at him, hoping to break the silence brewing between the two of you.
“Yeah, this past April! I didn’t expect to get it, to be honest.”
Jake’s cheeks reddened as he smiled at you, trying to appear modest as he spoke of his accomplishments in the Navy since you’d last seen him. He had always used to have an ego so big that it’d rival some of the aircraft around in size, especially as a teenager - he was good and he knew he was good when it came to sports. It was part of what drove the two of you apart, but around you? He was modest like he always had been before, acting embarrassed by the achievements he’d otherwise never shut up about. If you didn’t know any better, you’d almost think Jake was nervous around you. Jake Seresin, the only service member on active duty with multiple confirmed kills, the US Naval Air Force Captain who’s served for the last 17 years without as much as a scratch on him, the man who graduated top of his class from the Top Gun program, where only the best of the best are selected to participate. Jake Seresin had no need to be nervous about impressing you. He could have impressed you by simply looking your way - but for some reason, he was nervous around you, reduced to a blushing, modest mess.
❆ ❆ ❆ ❆ ❆ ❆
“Jake’s such a lovely boy,” Your mother said as she sipped her morning coffee, eyes fixated on the news program on her television set.
“He’s 35, mama, he’s hardly a boy now.”
“Fine, Jake’s a lovely man, he’s still just as sweet as I remember him being when he was young. He comes back to visit whenever he gets a leave and stays for a few days, and he always stops by to say hello - he even asks about you sometimes.”
“He asks about me?”
“He sure does, he asked Julie about you the other day, in fact. He was asking if you’d be home this time at Christmas. Seems you two always come back to visit on opposite schedules and never run into each other. He was saying he’d like to see you again, Jenna.”
Your mother’s words hung in the air for a moment. You took a sip from your coffee mug and furrowed your brow as you thought it over. You dismissed your mother’s words as nothing more than an attempt to set you and Jake up on a date, one that you figured Jake wasn’t going to be a willing participant of.
“Oh Mama, hush, he probably just said that to be polite because he figured I’d be coming home for the holidays anyway.”
“Jenna, why are you always so stubborn?” Your mother frowned, shaking her head as she let out an exasperated sigh.
“I’m not stubborn, I’m just…practical. I’m the only one who seems to realize the fact that Jake and I haven’t seen each other in 17 years, Mama. We’re not the same people we were when we were 18. He could be a serial womanizer with a series of broken hearts left behind waiting for him in California for all I know. He could have 17 kids by different women, or be a serial killer, Mama. I literally know nothing about him anymore.”
“Jenna Elizabeth Taylor, you’re just being ridiculous now,” Your mother frowned as she shook her head, sighing, “I think Julie would have mentioned it if Jake was a father, and do you really think he’s the type to go around breaking hearts for fun? Besides, how could he be a serial killer if he’s busy flying around on missions all the time?”
“You’re missing my point, Ma.”
“No, Jenna, I think you’re missing mine,” She sighed, setting her mug down on the table as she pursed her lips, “My point is, I know you’ve been holding out for him for years. He’s asked his mama about you, he’s been asking if you were coming home, he stops in to see me whenever he comes home - do you really think he’d do all that if he didn’t still feel something for you?”
“Mama, I’m not going to make a fool of myself and throw myself at him, contrary to what you think would work.”
You heard the sound of someone clearing their throat, and when you turned on your heel, you stood face to face with Jake, now sporting a fitted pair of acid-washed light denim jeans and a burnt orange Texas Longhorns football jersey and a brown corduroy bomber jacket shrugged on over top. His blonde hair peaked out from behind his beloved baseball cap, you’d swear it was the same one he’d been wearing since he was 15 if you didn’t know any better, this hat looked like it had been through hell and back.
He’d let himself in through the unlocked front door, almost certainly at your mother’s previous insistence or invitation. His cheeks were blushing again, his green eyes darting between the two of you, a blonde eyebrow cocked upwards as his gaze landed on you.
“Throw yourself at who?” He chuckled, flashing a set of perfect white teeth your way as gave you that same grin that he always did when you were kids. It was the kind of smile that always got him out of trouble, and sometimes, into trouble, depending on the situation.
“No one,” You said quickly, shooting your mother a warning glance as you shook your head, a few strands of light brown hair falling free from your half-assed ponytail that you’d thrown it up into the night before for bed. You realized that Jake was now standing in your mother’s living room while you were sporting an oversized old Texas Longhorns tee and a pair of sweatpants - not ideal attire for seeing a man you were attracted to in, regardless of your protests about your feelings to your mother.
“Right,” Jake nodded his head, but the tone in his voice told you he didn’t quite believe a word you were saying, “I know this isn’t a great time, but Ma wanted me to check and see if you and Ms. T were still able to make it tonight, she wanted me to ask in person, and she wanted me to see if you needed my help bringing anything over, she said you were bringing your famous taco dip, Ms. T? I can bring the dish over now for you if you’d like, Ma’s cleared out the fridge of anything that isn’t a necessity for the party so there’s tons of room.”
“Sure, Jake, honey, it’s in the fridge, Jenna can show you where, I just have to run upstairs and grab something to send to your mama’s with you,” Your mother said as she stood up, heading off up the stairs quicker than you could say a word, leaving you and Jake alone in an awkward stance, nothing but the sound of the morning news to fill the silent void between you, until Jake cleared his throat again before pointing his index finger towards the kitchen.
“In here? I’m sure I can find it if you need to go upstairs and get changed.”
“I’m fine, not like you haven’t seen me in pajamas before, Jake.”
“Well, in my defense, last time we were like, 12.”
“I’m sure you’ve seen a woman in an oversized tee and sweatpants before,” You shrugged nonchalantly, pretending to be completely unbothered by the fact you felt like you were dressed like an absolute slob right now.
“Alright, lead the way then,” Jake nodded as he followed behind you.
You felt his eyes make their way down your body, and you swore you could hear him muttering something under his breath as he sauntered into the kitchen after you. You couldn’t make out what he had said, but it sounded almost like a “Jesus Christ” before he coughed and averted his gaze as you turned to face him. You opened the fridge and grabbed the dish containing your mom’s taco dip before setting it on the counter for Jake to take home. You raised an eyebrow at Jake as you caught him staring in your direction, a look of bewilderment on his face.
“You good, Hangman?”
“Hmm?” Jake said as he shook his head, an awkward laugh escaping his lips as he raised an eyebrow at you, “How did you know my callsign?”
“Because it’s on the back of your jersey, genius.”
Jake raised an eyebrow as he looked down, as if he’d forgotten what shirt he was wearing today. He nodded his head and laughed as he ran a hand through the back of his hair, scratching the back of his neck as he looked back up at you.
“Yeah, yeah I’m good. Just, uh, jet-lagged, I think.”
“Jet-lagged? Isn’t only two hours behind us in San Diego?”
“You can still feel jet-lag with a two hour difference, Jenna.”
“I’m not stupid, Jake, I know that, but you seem…distracted? Not tired.”
“I’m fine, honest,” He nodded as he shoved his hands into his front pockets, looking around the kitchen as you checked the fridge for the extra shredded cheese and green onions your mother had prepared the night before to top the dip she’d made.
“Suit yourself, Jake,” You laughed as you set everything out on the counter for him and nodded, “If you give me five minutes to get dressed, I’ll help you bring it over.”
“Five minutes? God, I remember you taking 30 minutes to get ready when we were kids.”
“I was 12, it was 2000, I needed more time to perfect my lip gloss routine. Now I just have to put something warmer and nicer on than a t-shirt and sweatpants.”
“Fair enough, I can wait here. Your mama said she’d back down in a minute with something for Ma anyways.”
“Right, I’ll be back down in five.”
You turned around and headed back up the stairs, sighing softly to yourself as you entered your childhood bedroom, opening your suitcase as you grabbed out a pair of jeans and a vintage crewneck sweatshirt. You tidied your hair up into a neat ponytail before heading back down the stairs to meet Jake, who was currently talking to your mother in the kitchen, his body leaning against the counter as he spoke. Jake looked up at you, straightening his posture as he saw you. He picked the taco dip up from the counter, along with the reusable shopping bag your mother had packed up of the extra ingredients. Sitting on the counter next to the food was a gift, perfectly wrapped with a gold bow and a tag written out in your mother’s sleek handwriting. Jake’s mother and yours had always exchanged gifts with one another, and it warmed your heart in a sense to see the tradition still carrying on for them.
“So, you enjoy living in Chicago?” Jake asked, watching you as the two of you headed back from your childhood home, Jake having insisted on walking you back so you could spend some time catching up, even if just for a few minutes. .
“Yeah, it’s a change of scenery. It’s different from Austin for sure. How’s San Diego treating you?”
“It’s pretty good, I like being on the beach. I do miss home sometimes though,” He laughed softly, giving his shoulders a gentle shrug as he looked around at the street you grew up on, just a couple of blocks away from his own childhood home.
“I mean, yeah, I miss my mom sometimes when I’m in Chicago, but, I know it’s easier for me to come home and see her than for you to come home and see your family.”
“Jenna? Can I ask you something?”
“Mhmm?”
“Do you…do you regret leaving for Chicago?”
“No, I wouldn’t be where I’m at now if I hadn’t left. I have a really good career in public relations, and I’m happy with where I’m at professionally. I wouldn’t have gotten that if I stayed in Austin, just like you wouldn’t have gotten as far in the Navy if you hadn’t gone to Annapolis.”
Jake stayed silent for a minute, his eyes looking everywhere but at you, avoiding your gaze. You could sense tension between the two of you. The Jake you knew growing up was never awkward, and never stopped talking - had he really changed that much since he’d left? You couldn’t see the Navy taming him to the point where he became reserved, Jake had always been so outgoing, so full of self-pride that it often came off as cocksure arrogance, but most of the time, it was out of sheer disbelief that he’d made it that far. You looked to him, his hands firmly in his pockets as he let out a huff, his breath turning to vapor in the cool December air.
“I should really get going,” Jake nodded slowly, checking his watch as he looked back towards the street, “I promised Ma I’d help her set up.”
“Right, right, I’ll see you in a couple hours? Mama and I’ll be there.”
“Perfect, I’ll see you then,” Jake nodded, a warm smile on his features as he turned to start heading back.
You let out a heavy sigh, mentally kicking yourself as you realized you’d just let another opportunity to tell Jake how you felt slip away from you. As you headed up to your bedroom to get ready, moving quickly to dodge any questions from your mother, who was probably desperate to hear how your alone time with Jake had gone.
You shut the door behind you, sighing again as you sat at your old vanity table, brushing through your hair and sectioning it with a claw clip as you began straightening it, trying your best to calm your nerves and make a decision on how you were going to approach Jake. You wanted to tell him, desperately, how you felt, but, part of you couldn’t help but cling to the fact you might regret it. That you might be disappointed and find out that Jake never felt the same about you, and that he never would. Or that he’d be in a relationship with someone else back in San Diego, someone prettier, younger, smarter, better.
On the other hand, did you really want to commit yourself to never telling him how you felt? Letting the door shut on the one man you’d loved the longest, the most, and the hardest in your lifetime? Could you really be happy with anyone else? What if something happened to Jake while he was serving and you never got the chance to share how you felt? What if, somehow, there was the off chance he felt the same way about you?
As you finished your makeup, taking a deep breath as you looked yourself over in the mirror, you nodded your head. You had to tell him. There was no way you could let him go back to San Diego without knowing. You couldn’t let this go unsaid any longer, if for no other reason than to give yourself closure. If he rejected you, you could move on - or at least, try to. You could finally let go of your feelings and meet someone, and try your hardest to love them with the same enthusiastic, all-consuming love you felt for Jake. If he felt the same way, you’d apply for a job transfer to Los Angeles as soon as possible, because a three-hour drive was much more manageable of a commute to see him than a flight from Chicago to San Diego.
This was it, you were going to finally do it. You just needed to get Jake alone.
❆ ❆ ❆ ❆ ❆ ❆
“Oh, Jenna! It’s been so long, how are you?”
Bethany’s voice was sweet as honey as she spoke, wrapping her arms around you in a warm embrace, as if she’d been missing you for years and the sight of you reminded her of just how much.
“I’m great thanks, Beth, how are you? Your mama said you have two boys now? Easton and Dylan?”
“Yeah, they’re 6 and 4, they’re little handfuls like their uncles, but I guess that’s to be expected when you’ve got Jake and Matt as influences for you. My husband’s not much better.”
Bethany laughed as she gestured towards Jake playing with Easton? Or was it Dylan? Jake’s unmistakeable toothy grin plastered on his face, his green eyes alight with joy as he lifted his young nephew up, tickling him, the young boy’s laughter filling the air as Jake continued to make him laugh. Jake looked up to see you with his sister, smiling as he set the boy down on the floor, ruffling his hair with his fingers before making his way over to you.
“Jenna! Hey, I’m glad you came.”
“Told you I would, didn’t I?” You laughed, shrugging your shoulders as effortlessly as possible as you tried to play it cool, praying no one saw through the front you were putting up.
“Hey, Jenna, can I…can I talk to you for a sec?” Jake asked sheepishly.
You couldn’t mistake the look on Bethany’s face, biting her lip to hold back a grin. You caught Jake giving her a stare that could make any person stop dead in their tracks, his green eyes practically piercing through his older sister as she tried not to laugh. As you nodded your head, raising your eyebrow at the scene unfolding before you. You followed behind Jake as he led you upstairs to his old childhood bedroom. When he opened the door, you were confronted with an overwhelming sense of nostalgia. Old pictures adorned the wall, some including you and Jake as children, with ice cream covered smiles and skinned knees, baseball uniforms and halloween costumes, missing teeth and messy curls.
“Ma hasn’t changed anything since I left home, I don’t even think she’s bought new bedding for this room.” He chuckled as he looked around the room, his large hands placed firmly on his hips as he stood in the doorway.
“Still sleeping with those baseball player sheets you had as a kid?” You teased, eyeing the comforter on the bed, neatly made and pulled together, a sign of Jake’s time in the navy.
“You know it, I’m still a big kid, really,” He laughed, nodding his head as he pointed to a picture on the wall before looking over at you, “Remember this one? Your 7th birthday party, I think I snuck an extra little bit of frosting off your birthday cake and my mama almost killed me. She told me I had the table manners of a barn animal.”
“You did, you used to chew with your mouth full too.”
“I grew out of it at least. I’m a little more civilized now.” Jake replied with a smirk, shrugging his shoulders as he turned to face you, his chest rising and falling as he took a deep breath before exhaling sharply. You could see Jake chewing at the inside of his cheek, nodding his head as his eyes met yours.
“I have to tell you something, ok?” He finally said, sighing heavily.
“I’m listening, Jake.”
“I should have told you this a long time ago, but…I love you.”
You sputtered for a moment, eyes wide in shock as he spoke. He frowned, clearly expecting a better reaction than what you’d given him. Jake shook his head and took your hand in his, stroking the back of your hand gently with his fingers, which were almost surprisingly soft and smooth to the touch.
“I don’t care if you don’t feel the same way. I don’t care if you just wanna be friends after hearing this, because even though the truth is, I'm scared to be your friend, I would rather have you in my life as a friend than not have you in my life at all. The last 17 years have been spent missing you and wishing I’d said something before I left. That I’d kissed you or held you, or said something, anything to you.” He frowned, nodding his head as he looked to the ground before continuing to speak, his voice beginning to tremble with emotion.
“I was stupid to just go and leave things there, but I’ve been paying for it ever since. No other woman has ever compared to you.”
Without another word, you gripped the front of Jake’s football jersey, using it to give you leverage to pull him in closer, your lips crashing into his just as he looked up at you to see what you were doing. Any initial hesitation either of you felt melted away into the kiss, your lips moving together passionately, Jake’s hands trailing their way down your sides to rest on your hips, pulling your body in closer to his. When he finally pulled away to catch his breath, he maintained a small distance between the two of you, speaking in a low whisper as he watched you bite your now puffy, kiss-bitten bottom lip.
“Is that your way of telling me you feel the same way? Because if you do, I want to take you on a date. And I don't care if it's in the day, or at night, or whenever, as long as it's a real date. And I wanna sit there and tell you how beautiful I think you are, Inside and out. How you’ve always been the most beautiful girl in the world to me, without a doubt. And I wanna have babies with you, and I wanna marry you, and I wanna tell you every day that I love you and I always have." Jake nodded, his cheeks blushing as he scratched the back of his neck again, waiting for your response to his rambling feelings.
“Jake, I’ve spent the last 17 years of my life waiting to hear you say that.”
“I know, I’m sorry, Jenna. I’m so sorry I made you wait.”
“Promise me something, Jake?”
“Anything you want, pretty girl.”
“Promise me you won’t make me wait that long again? I’m not sure I can wait another 17 years for you to ask me to marry you.”
“Jenna, I swear to you, I’m not making you wait for anything ever again. I’d marry you tomorrow if I didn’t think my mama would have me committed for running off to get married three days after our reunion.”
“You’d marry me tomorrow?”
“With bells on, babe. With bells on. I’d marry you right here, right now, in my beat up Longhorns jersey, and drive off into the sunset with you in my truck if you wanted.”
“I don’t know about that, Captain Seresin,” You smirked, raising an eyebrow at him as you felt his hands caress your sides, “As tempting as that sounds, we do have 17 years of lost time to make up for.”
“And I intend to make up for every single second of that with you, Jenna. Here, Chicago, San Diego, I don’t care. I just want you. All of you, completely and totally.”

It was the night of Andrei’s crucial playoff game. The chilly evening air did nothing to cool the simmering tension between Andrei and Y/N as they made their way to the bustling arena. It was their first public outing together since the arranging of their faux relationship. Y/N, despite her visible discomfort, wore Andrei's jersey, the number 37 standing out boldly against the fabric, a symbol of her reluctant role in this charade.
In the car, the atmosphere had been thick with their mutual resentment, their conversation peppered with barbed comments and thinly veiled annoyance. "So, how many hours of my life am I sacrificing to the gods of ice tonight?" Y/N had asked with a heavy dose of sarcasm, her eyes rolling so hard Andrei thought they might get stuck that way.
"Hockey games have three periods, each 20 minutes long, but with breaks and potential overtime, who knows? Could be your whole night," Andrei replied dryly, his focus on the road but his mind racing with the implications of their public debut.
"And it's going to be cold, right? I mean, it's an ice rink. Couldn't you play a sport in a more comfortable climate?" Y/N continued, her complaints a verbal manifestation of her reluctance to be part of this spectacle.
"It's not the Arctic, Y/N. You'll survive. Besides, you're wearing my jersey. Consider it a... personal heater," Andrei shot back, the corner of his mouth twitching in what could have been the start of a smile under different circumstances. "You might actually enjoy it if you stopped complaining for a minute."
Y/N huffed, crossing her arms over the jersey that draped loosely over her frame. "Oh, please, like I'm really going to understand anything that's happening. I just don't get why I have to be there if I don't even follow the sport."
"Because you're supposed to be 'the supportive girlfriend,'" Andrei said, emphasizing the last two words with air quotes, his eyes briefly meeting hers before returning to the road.
The bickering had ebbed as they neared the arena, replaced by a tense silence that spoke volumes of their current state of affairs. They were two individuals tied together by circumstance and necessity, each bearing the weight of their roles with a mix of disdain and resignation.
As they stepped out of the car and into the view of waiting cameras and eager fans, Andrei could feel Y/N stiffen beside him. He offered his arm, a gesture meant for the watching eyes, and after a brief hesitation, she took it, her grip on his arm surprisingly firm.
The flash of cameras and the murmur of the crowd greeted them as they made their way inside, their smiles practiced and their steps measured. "Remember, just smile and wave. Stick to the script, and we'll get through this," Andrei murmured to Y/N, his voice barely audible over the noise.
"Script? I wasn't aware there was a script for pretending to enjoy watching people chase a puck on ice," Y/N whispered back, her voice laced with a mix of humor and bitterness.
As they approached the grand entrance, Andrei leaned in, his voice low but firm. “Hold my hand,” he instructed, a blend of request and command. Y/N’s initial reaction was one of surprise, her brows knitting together in confusion. Yet, his rationale, whispered in a hurried breath – “You wanted me to step up, right? ‘If we’re going to sell this lie?” – prompted a reluctant compliance. With a soft sigh, she placed her hand in his, their fingers intertwining.
The red carpet that adorned the arena’s entrance was a sea of flashing lights and eager faces, the fans’ excitement mirrored by the curiosity swirling around Andrei and Y/N’s relationship. Despite the turmoil of emotions beneath the surface, they navigated with grace, their smiles carefully curated masks worn for the world to see.
As they pause for photographs, the press urges them for a display of affection, keen to capture a moment that would headline the next day's gossip columns. Feeling the weight of expectation on her shoulders, Y/N turns to Andrei, whispering a challenge masked as a flirtation. "Let's see if you're as good at hockey as you're at kissing," she says.
Without a moment’s hesitation, Y/N bridged the gap between them, pressing a kiss to his lips. It was a bold move, surprising Andrei. The cameras flash frantically, capturing the moment from every angle. The kiss, though and part of their act, sends a ripple of excitement through the crowd, and for a moment, blurs the lines between their public facade and private discomfort.
Andrei, caught off guard by Y/N's audacity, can't help but respond to the kiss with a genuine spark of admiration for her boldness. As they part, he looks down at her, a new sense of respect mingling with the complex web of emotions he harbors towards her. The crowd cheers, delighted by the display, and for a fleeting second, Andrei forgets the world watching them.
Following this electrifying prelude, Y/N was ushered to her seat by Andrei's PR manager, ensuring her smooth transition through the still-buzzing crowd. The arena was alive with anticipation, the energy of the fans a pulsating backdrop to the unfolding drama on the ice.
The match was a nail-biter, the Hurricanes and the Flyers locked in a dance of skill, strategy, and sheer will. Andrei's focus was laser-sharp, undeniably influenced by the presence of Y/N in the stand. Her support, whether real or part of their elaborate ruse, fueled his determination.
When Andrei scored, the arena erupted into cheers and applause, a wave of collective joy sweeping through the crowd. Y/N was on her feet, cheering along with the masses, her earlier doubts and pretense of their situation momentarily forgotten in the genuine thrill of the moment. Their eyes met across teh distance, a silent exchange that carried the weight of words and emotions.
The jumbotron, ever watchful, captured Y/n’s animated reaction, her image filling the screen for all to see. Andrei, glancing up at the replay, was struck by the sight of her genuine smile – a smile he realised he had never truly seen until this moment. The sight of her, so vibrant and unrestrained in her joy, sent an unexpected flutter through his heart, a momentary skip in its rhythm that he couldnt quite comprehend.
As the finals buzzer sounds, signalling a hard-fought victory for the Hurricanes. The atmosphere became electric. Andrei was soon engulfed by his teammates, their shared euphoria palpable in their jubilant celebration. Yet, amidst the chaos of victory, andrei’s thoughts lingered on Y/N. as the team commenced their victory lap, he sought her out in the crowd, their eyes meeting once more. For a moment, it was as if they were the only two people in the arena, her smile is genuine, her applause enthusiastic.
After the game, Andrei finds Y/N waiting for him outside the locker room. The game had transformed the awkwardness of their initial interactions into something more fluid. “You’re pretty good at this thing,” Y/N quipped, her tone light, teasing, yet underscored with a hint of admiration.
Andrei, still riding the wave of adrenaline and unexpected sentimentality, responded with genuine humility. “Thanks for being here,” he said, his voice carrying a warmth and sincerity that reflected his gratitude.
“Well, it’s not like I had a choice,” her playful retort was met with laughter from them both, a spontaneous moment of unity that felt strangely right.

The sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm glow over the city skylines where Y/N and Tsukishima's love story began. It was a place filled with memories and promises, but today, the air was heavy with uncertainty. Tomorrow was meant to be the day when Y/N would become Tsukishima's wife, the day they had eagerly awaited and planned for. Yet, fate had a cruel twist in store.
Y/N had always been a girl of hope and dreams. Growing up, she had always believed in love and soulmates. Her engagement to Tsukishima was supposed to be a fairy tale come true.
When she first met Tsukishima, Y/N couldn't help but be intrigued by his stoic and reserved demeanor on the volleyball court. It was a chilly autumn afternoon, and they were both participating in a local volleyball tournament. Y/N had always been drawn to the sport, and she eagerly observed the players, seeking to learn from their techniques and tactics.
As she watched the matches unfold, her attention was drawn to a tall and lanky tall young man in the middle position. Tsukishima's movements were precise and calculated, and he displayed a level of skill that impressed even the most seasoned players. However, what caught Y/N's attention the most was the intensity in his eyes and the way he seemed to keep his emotions tightly locked away.
Curiosity got the better of her, and during a break between sets, Y/N decided to strike up a conversation with him. "You're an excellent middle blocker. Your blocks are on point."
Tsukishima glanced at her briefly, his expression remaining impassive. "Thanks," he replied curtly.
Undeterred by his reserved response, Y/N continued, determined to break through his shell. "I've seen you play a few times before. Your techniques are impressive. How long have you been playing volleyball?"
"Since elementary school," he replied tersely, not offering any more information.
Y/N sensed his reluctance to engage in conversation, but she was determined to connect with him on some level. As the tournament progressed, she made small efforts to strike up conversations during breaks, asking about his favorite plays or how he got into volleyball. It was a slow process, but Y/N's genuine interest and friendliness gradually began to chip away at Tsukishima's guarded exterior.
Over time, they found themselves exchanging more than just volleyball-related conversations. They discovered shared interests in books, music, and even silly jokes that would elicit a rare chuckle from Tsukishima. Y/N learned that beneath his aloof façade, he had a dry wit that matched her own, and they found comfort in each other's subtle sarcasm.
As their conversations grew more frequent, Y/N noticed that Tsukishima's walls were starting to come down. He seemed more at ease, even cracking a genuine smile from time to time. Y/N was thrilled that she was able to break through the barriers he had built around himself.
Tsukishima's childhood friend, Asami, became a part of their lives too. They were the three musketeers, but little did Y/N know that the bond between Tsukishima and Asami was deeper than she imagined. They even had a lighthearted marriage pact with Asami, Tsukishima's childhood friend, that if none of them were married by the age of 30, they would marry each other.
But life took a different turn when Y/N came into the picture. Tsukishima and Y/N's connection was undeniable, and they fell in love deeply and irrevocably. Their love seemed to transcend the bounds of their childhood pact, and they decided to get engaged, looking forward to a lifetime of happiness together.
As the soft evening light streamed through the curtains, Y/N found herself lost in a whirlwind of memories. The room felt filled with echoes of laughter and whispered promises as she reminisced about the journey that led her to this very moment. Her fingers gently traced the delicate gold band adorning her finger – the engagement ring that symbolized the love story she had always dreamed of.
It was a lazy evening, and Y/N had decided to surprise Tsukishima with a visit to his home. The knot of anticipation tightened in Y/N's stomach as she approached Tsukishima's house. Tomorrow was meant to be the day of their long-awaited wedding, and she had come over to surprise him with the final touches they had planned together. A warm smile graced her lips, and she couldn't wait to see the look on his face when he saw the arrangements they had made.
However, as she pushed the door open, her heart plummeted to her feet. Right at the entrance, a pair of unfamiliar women's shoes lay neatly placed, catching her eye like a glaring beacon. Her mind struggled to process what she was seeing. Thoughts raced, but she couldn't deny the sinking feeling in her chest.
An unsettling sense of dread took over as Y/N stepped further into the house, her footsteps echoing in the silence. "Tsukishima?" she called, hoping for an explanation, hoping that she was wrong.
What Y/N saw shattered her world into a million pieces. There, in the dimly lit room, stood Tsukishima and Asami, their hands intertwined as they gazed into each other's eyes with a tenderness that was meant only for lovers. Y/N's breath caught in her throat as she tried to comprehend the scene before her.
Her voice quivered as she walked through the house, and the sight that met her eyes was a painful blow to her heart. In the living room, there they were – Tsukishima and Asami, sitting close together, their hands intertwined, their faces far too close for Y/N's comfort.
The room seemed to spin around her, and she clutched her chest, trying to steady her breath. Her vision blurred with tears, and she took a step back, unable to bear the betrayal before her.
Asami's eyes widened with guilt, and Tsukishima's face turned pale, realizing that their secret had been exposed. Y/N took a step back, her mind racing, desperately searching for an explanation or a reason that could justify what she had just witnessed.
The damage had been done, and Y/N could hardly bring herself to look at either of them.
"I-I can't believe this," Y/N whispered, her voice trembling with hurt and disbelief. "How could you do this to me, Tsukishima?"
Asami looked equally guilty, her eyes filled with remorse. "Y/N, we never wanted you to find out like this. It just happened, and we never meant to hurt you."
Y/N felt a mix of emotions – anger, betrayal, and heartbreak. Her whole world felt like it was crumbling around her, and she struggled to find her footing amidst the chaos of her emotions.
Tsukishima reached out to her, his voice filled with regret. "Y/N, please, let me explain. It's not what you think. It was a mistake, and I never wanted to hurt you."
"How can you say that?" Y/N choked out, tears streaming down her cheeks. "You knew how much I loved you, and yet, you chose to betray me."
The words hung heavy in the air, and the pain was palpable. Y/N turned on her heels and ran out of the house, feeling like she couldn't breathe. The world outside felt like a blur, but she kept moving, seeking solace and clarity amidst the chaos in her heart.
Y/N found herself standing on the same beach where she and Tsukishima had once shared beautiful moments. The waves crashed relentlessly against the shore, mirroring the turmoil in her soul.
She clutched the engagement ring on her finger, a painful reminder of the love and dreams that had shattered. The future she had envisioned had crumbled into pieces, leaving her heartbroken and lost.
At that moment, she didn't know what to do or where to go. But as she stared out into the vastness of the ocean. As Y/N stood on the beach, gazing out at the vast expanse of the ocean, she felt an overwhelming sense of despair. The crashing waves mirrored the turmoil within her, and she was torn between holding onto the love she once believed in and the pain of the betrayal that had shattered it.
Tomorrow was meant to be the day she had dreamed of – the day she would marry Tsukishima, her soulmate, and start a new chapter of their lives together. But now, it felt like all those dreams were being thrown away, lost in the depths of the ocean before her.
Her mind was a whirlwind of confusion, anger, and heartbreak. Part of her wanted to confront Tsukishima, to demand answers, to try and salvage what was left of their love. But another part of her knew that the trust had been broken, and nothing could ever be the same again.
As the sun set on the horizon, casting a warm, orange glow across the water, Y/N sank to her knees on the sand. She clutched her engagement ring tightly, feeling the weight of its symbolism in her hand. It was a symbol of the love they had once shared, but now, it felt like a painful reminder of the love that had been lost.
Her heart ached, not just for herself but for everyone who had been excitedly preparing for the wedding. Friends and family had come together to celebrate their love, but now, it seemed like it had all been a facade.
She closed her eyes, feeling the tears welling up once more. It wasn't just the wedding she was mourning; it was the future she had imagined with Tsukishima – the laughter, the shared dreams, the moments of love and understanding.
As Y/N stared out at the ocean, lost in her thoughts, a figure caught her eye in her peripheral vision. Turning her head, she saw Asami running towards her, her face etched with worry and concern.
"Y/N!" Asami called out, breathless as she reached her side. "I've been looking everywhere for you. Are you okay?"
Y/N felt a mix of emotions at the sight of Asami – the woman who had been at the center of the painful revelation. Part of her wanted to push her away, to demand answers, but another part yearned for someone to lean on in her moment of vulnerability.
Tears welled up in Y/N's eyes, and she turned her gaze back to the ocean, unable to meet Asami's gaze. "How could you?" she choked out, her voice trembling with hurt. "How could both of you betray me like this?"
Asami's face fell, and she knelt beside Y/N, her voice filled with remorse. "I know I can't justify what happened, and I never intended to hurt you, Y/N. It was a mistake, and I regret it deeply."
Y/N's heart ached, torn between wanting to hear an apology and wanting to push Asami away. "A mistake?" she whispered, her voice filled with bitterness. "Do you have any idea how much pain I'm in right now?"
Asami reached out to touch Y/N's hand gently. "I can't undo what happened, but I'm here now. Please, let me try to explain."
A part of Y/N wanted to turn away, to shut Asami out completely. But another part couldn't help but yearn for closure and understanding, as painful as it might be.
Taking a deep breath, Asami began to speak, her voice soft and remorseful. "It started out as innocent , Y/N. Tsukishima and I have known each other since childhood, and we had this marriage pact. But as we spent more time together recently, old feelings resurfaced, and we made a mistake. I'm so sorry."
Y/N listened, her heart torn between anger and sadness.
"Why didn't you both tell me?" Y/N asked, her voice trembling with emotion. "You were both going to let me marry Tsukishima without knowing the truth?"
Asami looked down, her guilt evident in her eyes. "We knew it was wrong, and we wanted to stop, but we were scared of hurting you even more. It was selfish, and I regret it deeply."
Y/N took a deep breath, her heart heavy with conflicting emotions. "He's got you on a pedestal but me in his arms," she uttered, her voice barely above a whisper. "Is that how it was all along? Was I just a place holder for him?"
Asami looked down, her gaze filled with guilt. "I can't speak for Tsukishima's feelings, Y/N. But I do know that you mean a lot to him. He loves you, but he also made a terrible mistake."
As Y/N stood there in front of Asami, clutching the engagement ring tightly in her hand, her tears fell like raindrops on a stormy night.
Just as she was about to speak, she heard a familiar voice call out her name. Tsukishima emerged from the shadows, his eyes filled with a mixture of sorrow and regret.
"Y/N, please," he pleaded, his voice cracking with emotion. "Give me a chance to explain."
But the pain within Y/N was too raw, too overwhelming to bear. "Explain what, Tsukishima?" she cried, her voice breaking with each word. "The lies, the betrayal? There's nothing left to say."
Tsukishima took a step closer, reaching out as if to touch her, but he hesitated. "I know I made a terrible mistake," he said, his voice choked with remorse. "But please, let me try to make it right."
Y/N's heart ached, torn between wanting to believe him and wanting to shield herself from further pain. "How can you make this right?" she asked, her voice filled with anguish. "You're engaged to me!"
As Tsukishima looked into her tear-filled eyes, his own filled with pain. "I was a fool, Y/N. I let my fear and confusion cloud my judgment. I never wanted to hurt you, but I let my emotions get the best of me."
Tears streamed down Y/N's cheeks, and she shook her head, unable to find the strength to forgive him just yet. "Why did you even ask me to marry you," she whispered, her voice barely audible above the crashing waves.
Tsukishima stepped closer, his desperation evident. "Please, don't throw the ring away," he implored. "It meant something once, and I want the chance to prove to you that it can mean something again."
In that moment, Y/N's heart wavered, torn between the love she had once shared with Tsukishima and the pain of his betrayal. The memory of the happiness they had once found in each other tugged at her heartstrings.
Summoning all the courage she had left, Y/N shook her head, tears falling like raindrops. "I can't, Tsukishima," she said, her voice resolute.
The weight of the engagement ring on her finger felt suffocating, a constant reminder of the shattered dreams and broken promises. Tears streamed down her cheeks, and she knew that she couldn't carry the burden of that ring any longer.
With trembling hands, she removed the engagement ring, the symbol of a love that had turned to betrayal. As she held it in her palm, her heart ached with the weight of the decision she was about to make. She looked at the ring, its delicate gold band gleaming in the fading light, and she knew that it no longer held the same significance it once did.
With a mix of pain and determination, she flung her arm forward, releasing the ring into the vast expanse of the sea. It glimmered for a moment in the sunlight before disappearing beneath the waves, swallowed by the ocean's depths.
As the ring vanished from sight, Y/N felt a sense of pain wash over her.
The sea seemed to embrace her grief, its vastness swallowing her sorrow.
As the ring disappeared beneath the water's surface, Y/N felt an overwhelming emptiness engulf her. The tears kept falling, and she knew that walking away from him wouldn't erase the pain she felt.
Her heart shattered into a million pieces, and the world around her seemed to blur into a haze of desolation. The love she had once believed to be eternal had crumbled, and she was left standing on the precipice of a dark and unknown future.
With a heavy heart, she turned away from the sea, Asami and Tsukishima, feeling the weight of the world on her shoulders. The beach, once a place of happiness and laughter, now held only memories of betrayal and heartache.
Days turned into weeks, and the ache in Y/N's heart showed no signs of subsiding. The pain of betrayal lingered, leaving her feeling lost and adrift. She tried to keep her distance from both Tsukishima and Asami, seeking solace in the company of friends who were always there to support her.
One evening, as she was going through old messages on her phone, Y/N stumbled upon a post. It was a picture of Tsukishima and Asami standing together, their arms wrapped around each other with smiles that felt like a cruel twist of fate.
As her eyes widened in shock, she began to scroll through the messages and discovered the truth. Tsukishima and Asami had indeed gone through with the wedding, sealing their love just a few hours after Y/N's heart had been shattered. They didn't want all that money and venue to go to waste and just like that her dreams were stolen from her.
The revelation hit Y/N like a tidal wave, knocking the breath out of her. It was a betrayal on a whole new level, as if the universe was conspiring against her, mocking her pain. The two people she had trusted the most had found comfort in each other, using their deceit to validate their actions.
"How could they?" Y/N whispered, her voice cracking with disbelief. It felt like a knife through her heart, adding salt to the wounds that were still raw and bleeding.
The sense of betrayal and hurt overwhelmed her, and she felt a mix of anger, sorrow, and confusion. It was as if the world had collapsed around her, and she found herself questioning everything she once believed in.
At that moment, Y/N couldn't see a path forward. The pain was all-consuming, leaving her feeling lost and broken. She wanted to scream, to demand answers, but the bitter reality was that there were no answers that could mend her wounded heart.
In the distance, the sun began to set, casting a melancholic glow over the apartment. As darkness descended, it mirrored the darkness that had settled within Y/N's soul.
Grief washed over her in waves, as she mourned not only the love that was lost but also the future that could have been. She pictured the life they had planned together – a home filled with love, laughter, and children, growing old hand in hand.
But now, those dreams lay shattered, scattered like fragments of glass on the cold ground. The pain was all-consuming, leaving her feeling adrift and lost in a sea of sorrow.
Y/N felt as if her heart was like an artist's scrapped work discarded in the trash bin. The pain of the shattered love was akin to the pain of watching something she had poured her heart and soul into being tossed aside, unappreciated and unwanted.
The canvas of their love story, once filled with vibrant colors and promising strokes, now lay in ruins, torn apart by deceit and betrayal. She could almost see the paint splattered across the floor, an abstract representation of the chaos that had consumed her emotions.
She had invested so much in this masterpiece, carefully adding each brushstroke with love and hope. But as fate would have it, the canvas had been marred beyond repair, leaving her feeling like an artist who had lost her way.
Her memories served as a painful reminder of what could have been – a love story that was meant to be cherished and admired. Instead, it had been abandoned, a casualty of human flaws and weaknesses.
She felt like a shell of her former self, her spirit bruised and battered. The red strings of fate that she had once believed in now felt like a cruel joke, a reminder that love didn't always lead to happiness.
Fate had played a cruel trick, entangling her heart with the wrong person, and how she was left to untangle herself.

Tumblr media
 I've always been passionate about racing. It's been my dream since I was a little girl to become one of the best drivers of my generation. I've faced numerous challenges and obstacles along the way, but I never let them deter me from pursuing my goals.
While NASCAR has been my main focus, I've always been a huge fan of Formula 1 as well. The sport’s glamour, speed, and international appeal fascinated me. One race that stood out in my mind was the prestigious Monaco Grand Prix. The glitz and glamour associated with the event seemed like a dream, and I couldn't help but imagine what it would be like to witness it firsthand. So, when I received an invitation to attend the Monaco Grand Prix as a guest, I couldn't believe my luck. It was an opportunity of a lifetime, and I eagerly packed my bags and headed to the beautiful principality.
As I arrived at the track, the excitement in the air was palpable. The sound of engines revving and the smell of burning rubber filled the atmosphere. I watched in awe as the sleek F1 cars zoomed past me, each one a marvel of engineering and speed.
Little did I know that fate had something extraordinary in store for me. As I made my way through the paddock, I caught the attention of a few drivers. There stood Max Verstappen, Lando Norris, and Daniel Riccardo. They made their way towards me. “No way am I meeting you, Y/n Y/L/N one of the greatest NASCAR drivers in this generation.” Spoke Daniel. He recognized me as one of the best drivers of my generation. I didn’t know what to say. This was so surreal to have these F1 superstars fangirling over me, a young NASCAR driver.
We quickly struck up a conversation, bonding over our shared love for racing. They invited me to join them for dinner later that evening, an opportunity I couldn't pass up. Eager to meet more of the F1 drivers and learn about their experiences, I accepted their invitation. If someone would have told me that I would be talking to some of the best drivers on the paddock and it would result in me being invited to dinner with them, I would have laughed square in their faces. This is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I just hope they don’t pick the most expensive restaurant. Hey, I might be a race car driver, but that doesn’t mean I’m willing to spend $100 on a burger that I could get for $7 at Burger King.
The race went on as usual. A few of the drivers had to DNF due to car problems. Max Verstappen ended up winning which wasn’t a shocker to anyone. Fernando Alonso P2, and a Esteban Ocon P3. I decided to make my way to my hotel to get ready for the dinner.
The dinner took place at a luxurious restaurant overlooking the stunning Monaco harbor. By the looks of it, I would probably be paying $100 for a burger.  As I walked in, I couldn't help but feel a wave of nervousness wash over me. All the top drivers of the 2023 F1 season were present, including the legendary Lewis Hamilton, a man who had broken numerous records and established himself as one of the greatest drivers in the history of the sport. Not knowing what to do with myself, I just stood there awkwardly. Daniel finally noticed me and made his way over.
“Y/n, I’m so glad you could make it, we saved you a seat next to Lewis,” I nodded my head and made my way to sit down. I introduce myself to everyone. A few of the drivers started to ask me questions about my career. That was until Fernando Alonso asked me how I got into NASCAR.
“Becoming a NASCAR driver wasn't an easy journey for me. It required hard work, dedication, and a lot of determination. From a young age, I had a deep love for speed and competition, and I knew that racing was my true calling. Growing up in a small town, my exposure to motorsports was limited. However, my passion burned brightly, and I immersed myself in everything related to racing. I devoured books, watched races on TV, and even tried my hand at go-kart racing whenever I could.
As I got older, my dream of becoming a NASCAR driver became stronger. But I faced a significant hurdle – lack of representation. As a young Black woman in a predominantly white and male-dominated sport, I knew that the road ahead wouldn't be easy. However, I refused to let that deter me. I started by joining local racing clubs and participating in regional competitions. Every weekend, I would head to the local tracks, ready to prove myself on the asphalt. The adrenaline rush I felt as I sat behind the wheel, the wind rushing past me, was exhilarating.
With each race, I pushed myself to the limit, fine-tuning my driving skills and honing my instincts. I learned from my mistakes, analyzing every lap and seeking guidance from seasoned racers who were willing to share their knowledge with me. But it wasn't just about my driving skills. I realized that to make it in NASCAR, I needed to be physically and mentally strong. I hit the gym, working on my endurance and building the strength required to handle the powerful machines I would eventually drive.
As I continued to race, word started to spread about my talent and determination. It wasn't long before I caught the attention of sponsors and racing teams. The opportunity I had been waiting for finally arrived when I received an invitation to join a development program for aspiring NASCAR drivers. The program pushed me to my limits, testing every aspect of my abilities. But I thrived under the pressure, constantly improving and proving myself on the track. The hard work paid off when I secured a spot on a NASCAR team as a rookie driver.
My NASCAR journey had officially begun. I faced challenges along the way, both on and off the track. There were moments of self-doubt when the weight of the industry's expectations felt overwhelming. But I refused to let those moments define me. I pushed through, determined to break down barriers and pave the way for future generations. I knew that my success wouldn't just be a personal victory; it would be a symbol of progress and representation in a sport that desperately needed it.
As I raced in NASCAR, I became a role model for aspiring drivers who shared my background and dreams. I aimed to inspire them, to show them that they too could break down barriers and achieve greatness. Becoming a NASCAR driver wasn't just about winning races and championships. It was about proving that dreams know no bounds, and that passion and talent could overcome any obstacle. It was about changing the face of the sport and leaving a lasting legacy for others to follow.” I see the way Lewis looked at me as I finish my story. He had this sparkle in his eye that I saw only one time before. With my ex boyfriend, before he became a douchebag.
As I mingled with the drivers, I felt a connection with each of them. They were incredibly supportive and shared stories of their own racing journeys. Lewis, in particular, seemed intrigued by my background and accomplishments. His charisma and passion for the sport were captivating, and I found myself drawn to him in ways I hadn't expected.
Over the course of the evening, Lewis and I spent a lot of time talking. We discovered that we shared many interests outside of racing and had a similar outlook on life. Lewis talked about how he became vegan and how he eventually got his dog Roscoe on the diet. There wasn’t one thing uninteresting about him. Despite the 20-year age difference, our connection seemed undeniable. But as the night came to an end, doubts began to creep into my mind. Would our age difference become an obstacle in the pursuit of a romantic relationship? Would people judge us? Would the age gap eventually become a source of tension between us?
As I returned to my hotel room that night, my mind was filled with conflicting emotions. On one hand, I couldn't deny the feelings I had developed for Lewis. On the other hand, the practical side of me worried about the challenges we might face. I open the door to my room and make my way to the king sized mattress where I fell on. Closing my eyes, I slowly start to let myself drift to sleep, until my phone vibrated.
It was a Instagram notification from lewis. I clicked on it to see what said. I know you felt what I felt tonight. In the two hours we’ve known eachother, I feel like we were supposed to meet. It just makes sense. We make sense. Despite the fact that  I’m old enough to be your father.  If you feel the same way meet me at room 388 in 30 minutes. -lewis <3  Was this really happening? Am I hallucinating? I think I need a drink. Besides I’m in Monaco, its legal.
To be continued…

Eddie's UNO Reverse
AO3
Summary:
“You know, he’s different, not only because he’d be the first man I’d try to date in, let’s just say a while. Spending time with him feels good. Like-” Eddie pauses, purses his lips the way he does when he’s thinking about something and then he says it. “Like he sees me.”
And just how the fuck is Buck supposed to take that? Here’s Eddie, literally contemplating a future with a man he just met, a complete stranger, and saying all of this to Buck’s face!? He’s really going to consider a stranger over the person who has known him for years, to the person who can basically read his mind with just a look! To the man who actually sees him because he’s known him for the better part of half a decade and now that he can be honest to himself, the man who’s been helping him raise the most amazing kid in the world!?
He hasn’t been hyping himself up to ask Eddie out on a date for weeks just for a stranger to come waltzing in and steal his partner right in front of him. Not again.
Or the one where Eddie speaks with Buck about Tommy the same way Buck talked about Natalia. And Buck doesn't take it well.
Word count: 3k something
Tags: Jealousy, Eddie's pettyness backfires (in the best way possible), getting together. It gets a bit spicy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“I didn't expect to get along with Tommy so well, he's been nice.” Eddie comments as he lets his duffle bag drop to the floor next to the door.
“Yeah, he seems like a cool guy.” Buck follows him inside, he leaves his own bag next to Eddie’s and makes his way to the open space that makes up the kitchen area of his loft. He watches as Eddie opens the fridge and grabs two beers.
They just came back from the basketball court, they invited Tommy to hang out with them once things settled down after the cruise rescue. They all promised to make an effort to hang out more, and apparently Hen and Chim’s old teammate made a good impression on Eddie.
”We made plans to go to next week’s baseball game, said he had an extra ticket.” Eddie passes him his beer, their fingers brushing.
“Really?” Buck takes a long sip of his beer, hoping that he sounded normal and not upset. It was his idea to invite Tommy to their regular basketball hang out in the first place. He wanted him to feel included, to let him know that they appreciated that he placed his career on the line to help them get to Bobby and Athena. And well, even if he’s no longer with the 118 he should still be considered a friend, family. He just never considered that he’d be the one feeling left out.
He might not be a big baseball fan but they could have asked even if just to not be rude.
“You know, I might just try something with him,” Eddie says, far too casual. Buck chokes on his beer, thumping his fist against his chest twice before he regains his composure. “It’s been almost a month since Marisol and I broke up, so might as well.”
“What?” Buck croaks, carbonation from the beer still burning at the back of his throat.
“I mean, we have a lot in common. He says he’s good with kids, has been in the army, he’s a widower like me, he likes sports, has a good sense of humor, since he was a firefighter and now a rescue pilot he most definitely won’t have a problem with my crazy work schedule. Plus he’s nice as we previously stated and he’s not bad looking.”
“I guess.” The fact that Eddie is considering dating a man doesn’t come out of nowhere, they’ve had more than one conversation on their interests and on Eddie’s part on how he’s never felt like he could act upon those feelings or even mention that he’s interested in men before. The wonders of going to therapy.
Still, this is the first time he ever mentioned wanting to go on a date with a guy. With Tommy. He’d say yes, of course he would. Who wouldn't say yes to Eddie!
“You know, he’s different, not only because he’d be the first man I’d try to date in, let’s just say a while. Spending time with him feels good. Like-” Eddie pauses, purses his lips the way he does when he’s thinking about something and then he says it. “Like he sees me.”
And just how the fuck is Buck supposed to take that? Here’s Eddie, literally contemplating a future with a man he just met, a complete stranger, and saying all of this to Buck’s face!? He’s really going to consider a stranger over the person who has known him for years, to the person who can basically read his mind with just a look! To the man who actually sees him because he’s known him for the better part of half a decade and now that he can be honest to himself, the man who’s been helping him raise the most amazing kid in the world!?
He hasn’t been hyping himself up to ask Eddie out on a date for weeks just for a stranger to come waltzing in and steal his partner right in front of him. Not again.
“What do you mean he sees you?” Buck asks, placing his beer on the counter.
“You know, like he understands the struggles and sees beyond what I let people see.” Buck sees him shrug his shoulders as if what he just said is the most obvious thing in the world. “Well, any other person that's not close to me.”
”Eddie, you’re sounding crazy right now.”
“What? Why?” Eddie asks.
“Why? You’re really asking why?” He raises his eyebrows incredulously at his best friend.
“Yeah, you just agreed that he’s a nice guy.” Buck watches as Eddie also leaves his beer on the side and crosses his arms in front of him.
“But you just met him.”
“Yeah, but there's the fact that we almost died together in that hurricane and he also risked his job to help us rescue our friends, that says a lot about him. To me it says he’s loyal.”
“There were 3 other people on that chopper that almost died with you and that you’ve known for years.” Buck takes a few steps away from the counter and starts pacing as he speaks, he needs to move or else he’s going to, to… Okay he doesn’t know what he’ll do if he doesn’t move but he needs to just not stay still. “How can you say that someone who you’ve met twice and only really spoken with once ‘sees you’?”
Why does this whole situation feels familiar? It’s like a deja vu. Like Buck’s heard something similar before, like he's had this same conversation in the past but different.
And then it hits him.
He’s taken back to a couple of months ago, when they were standing at a graveyard.
‘There's something... different about her. I-I feel like she sees me. You know? Like she-she really sees me for who I am and what I've been through.’
Oh.
OH.
He said the same thing about Natalia after just one coffee date. And Eddie, Eddie just listened to him, he let him speak and didn’t question his reasoning. However wrong it turned out to be.
And here he was, criticizing his choice to find happiness, ready to try and live his life without caring what anyone may think of him for dating another man.
All because he's jealous, because the man in question isn't him.
Shit.
“Oh my god, oh my god, Eddie. I’m an idiot, I’m such a hypocritical idiot! I’m sorry, I’m so sorry.”
“Wait what? Buck-”
“No, no, I am. I said the exact same thing to you about Natalia months ago and you just listened to me and-and supported me.” He stood still for a moment once the realization hit him, but now he was back to pacing.
“Buck.”
“You didn't question me like I was doing a moment ago. It doesn't matter that my relationship didn't go anywhere, because that's just me, forever cursed to fuck up and act on impulse. But it doesn't mean it'll be the same for you, if you say he sees you, he sees you, that's fine I believe you.” He knew he was doing that thing when he talks and gestures with his hands that most of his teachers used to find kind of annoying, but he just could never control it. Even less so now that he’s sure Eddie must think he’s a horrible friend for not being happy that he’s putting himself out there trying to find a romantic partner.
And he really is such a horrible friend, he should be putting his feelings aside and encouraging Eddie to look for happiness. He must do that, he’ll fix it, from this moment on he’ll be all in.
“Buck.”
“I'll support you, even if it kills me inside I’ll deal with it. I’ll be your wingman. My jealousy is my problem. I want you to be happy even if it’s not with me, even if I stay your friend and nothing more for the rest of my life I’ll learn to deal with my feelings I swear, Eddie. And-”
“Evan!” The use of his name and the weight of Eddie’s hands on his shoulders stops him abruptly from continuing his pacing. “Hold on, I'm the one that should be apologizing.”
“No, why? I was the one being-”
“Evan, I’m sorry. I- I said that on purpose to mess with you a little, I didn’t think it’d upset you this much. I’m so sorry, it was such a stupid and petty thing to say I just,” Eddie sighs, “You actually just voiced just about everything that went on in my head when you said that about Natalia, with the exception of you using nicer words than I would have, had I voiced my thoughts back then.”
“You- back when- what?” He feels Eddie’s hands leaving his shoulders, missing his touch for the few seconds it takes for them to move to his face.
“Okay, Buck. I need you to listen closely, I do like Tommy, he seems great and when I got invited to the baseball game I did consider trying to have something with him. That was before, before I learned that you were jealous, that maybe I could have a chance, because he’s no Evan Buckley.”
“But if- you were jealous back then, why didn’t you say anything?”
“Well, it had been a while since you told me you were Bi and I told you that I’m also into men even if I don’t really like labels. When our relationship stayed the same after that and when you started dating Natalia I just thought that maybe you didn’t feel the same way or weren’t into me like that. And so I- I invited Marisol on a date.”
“You’re kidding, right? Shit, Eddie. We’re both a pair of idiots.” Buck huffs in exasperation. “I tried to make it work with Natalia for the exact same reason.”
“Fuck.”
“Yeah, fuck.” They stare at each other for a moment, processing all that has been said in the last fifteen or so minutes, before bursting into laughter. “So, we could have been dating since last year?”
“Guess we’ve got a lot of lost time to make up for then.” Eddie smirks and Buck becomes very suddenly aware of just how close they are. One of Eddie’s hands has moved to cup the back of his neck, fingertips brushing against the soft hairs at the nape, the other has started to trail down Buck’s arm. All he’d have to do is tilt his head just a little bit.
Eddie beats him to it.
The kiss is chaste, barely more than the press of Eddie’s lips against his own before they pull away again.
“Sorry, I just- and you-” Buck worries at his bottom lip, tasting the bitter malt of Eddie’s preferred beer brand that lingers there as his best friend fumbles with his words. “You have no idea for how long I've wanted to do that.”
“I can guess.” Buck whispers before capturing Eddie's lips again. in a deeper kiss. Having no more reasons to restrain himself he pours all of him into the kiss.
It's messy and kind of uncoordinated but so good. He's not sure  who deepens the kiss first or when it happens, but figuring out the details is not high on his list of priorities when Eddie is licking into his mouth like a man starved. It's messy and uncoordinated, teeth colliding when Buck tries to suck Eddie's bottom lip between his own with a little too much enthusiasm and Eddie returns it by smiling into it, but it's perfect. And Buck wants more. His hands wander, leaving their anchor on Eddie's waist in his mission to map out every dip and ridge of his body, keen to touch everywhere he can in a way he's never been able to before.
Buck leans down a bit until he can get his hands on the back of Eddie's thighs and lifts him up, his legs immediately going around his waist most likely on instinct, he takes a few steps until he reaches the counter behind Eddie and places him there.
“Oh shit.” Eddie pants, breaking the kiss. Buck takes the opportunity to lavish his neck with kisses.
“Buck.” He moans as Buck sucks on a spot just below Eddie's ear. “Hold on, Buck. We're going too fast.”
He stops immediately, he would never do anything or go further than what his partner would allow. Even back in his wilder years, he prided himself in always making sure his advances were wanted.
“Sorry, sorry. You're right. Too fast.” He takes a deep breath and lets his forehead rest on Eddie’s left shoulder as Eddie cards his right hand through his product free blonde curls. Eddie taps his back twice, it’s all the indication he needs to understand that Eddie wants to get down from the counter. Buck takes a step back to give him just enough space for that, not wanting to actually leave too much space between them. He really wants to stay as close to him as possible right now.
Once Eddie’s feet are back on the ground they stay still for a moment, their foreheads resting against each other.
“Just for the record,” Buck says, breaking the peaceful silence between them, “I love you. I’m in love with you.”
His words are rewarded with Eddie’s blinding smile, the big unrestrained one he’s only seen when they’re either alone or when they’re with Chris. That one smile that reaches his eyes and lights up his whole face. He loves that smile, he loves everything Eddie.
“Then, just for the record.” Eddie chuckles. “I love you too, Evan.” He can’t help but lean in and capture Eddie’s lips with his own again. His hands that were previously on Eddie’s hips, playing with his belt hoops, pull him by them so that they can be as close as humanly possible while still being clothed.
Eddie is sucking Buck’s tongue into his mouth and god damn it if they don’t stop right now he’ll have to take the longest cold shower known in history. The fact that he can actually feel Eddie’s hardness against his own doesn’t help at all.
“Slow.” He manages to break the kiss with a wet pop. “We agreed on going slow.” He knows he sounds wrecked and so out of breath and really, if they hadn't agreed to take their time he’d already be guiding Eddie towards the stairs to his bed.
They take a moment to get their breathing back to normal.
“Yeah, you’re right, we’ll go the pace we feel like going.” Buck gives him a questioning look at that. “Hey, I reconsidered and slow is for people that need to know each other, to figure out if they’ll work out. I’m completely sure we don’t really need all that time. We’ve been partners for years, we were just missing the kissing part and… the other stuff too.” Eddie says that last part at the same time as his hands trail down the panes of Buck’s back to land on his ass.
“We’re going to be so bad at slow.” Buck groans.
“I know.” Eddie snorts. “We did transition from enemies to friends in the span of one shift.”
“Alright, alright. Are you hungry?” Buck watches as Eddie gives him a once over and he already knows that whatever Eddie is about to say is going to make the situation going on in his pants worse.
“Starving,” the little shithead has the gall to smirk. “But I can go for a pizza or chinese.”
“Jesus, Eddie.” He pushes away from his laughing… boyfriend? Okay, mental reminder to talk about relationship labels later. “You’re killing me. Just for that, you’re stuck ordering our food, meanwhile I’m going to take a shower.”
He starts making his way up to his loft to grab comfortable clothes to change into after his shower.
“Leave some of that cold water for me, babe!” Eddie calls from the kitchen, his voice laced with mirth.
“Shut up! And that’s not how it works, that’s for hot water not cold! You can’t run out of cold water!” He knows he completely failed to sound annoyed, he’s just too happy to be anything but elated at the turn of events.
He confessed to Eddie, he told him that he loves him and Eddie said it back. He’ll be walking on cloud 9 for the rest of the month. Hell maybe even for the rest of his life.
After dinner and with Christopher spending the night at a friend’s house, Eddie decides to stay for the night and it’s only after they’re both tucked into bed that Buck remembers the catalyst of the night’s events.
“Eddie?” He gets a noncommittal humm in response. “What about your date?”
“What date?” This time Eddie does answer sounding so sleepy and confused.
“Your date with Tommy.” Did he forget? He gets that a lot of things just happened tonight but to completely forget what started it all?
“Oh yeah, about that, it was never really a date, I did say he invited me, but I never said it’d be just the two of us. Chim is coming too.”
What. Did. He. Just. Say.
It wasn’t a date!?
“Don’t you think you should have started with that!?”
“Sorry, love. Think about it this way, if I had mentioned that Chim was also invited, we wouldn’t be here now. Who knows how many years it would have taken for us to finally get together.”
“Then why didn’t you guys invite me?” His bottom lip just out in what is definitely not a pout and the rough pad of Eddie's thumb traces over it.
“Buck you don’t like Baseball, you’d be fast asleep during the first inning.”
“Still, you could have asked.”
“Next time. I promise,” Eddie says, his hand has moved, no longer tracing the plump line of Buck's lower lip but now trailing a lazy line down one of Buck's arms under the covers.
“Are you still going?”
“I plan to. It’s a free ticket after all.” Eddie shrugs one shoulder and Buck takes the momentary pause in Eddie's movement as an opportunity to lace their fingers together. “But before that, I plan on taking you out for dinner this weekend. Would you like that?”
“I’d love that.”
“Alright, then it’s a date.” The end of Eddie's sentence is slurred with sleep, his eyes already closed.
Buck gives Eddie's hand a squeeze, their fingers still interlocked and watches the corner of Eddie's lip quirk up in the ghost of a smile before he lets his eyes slip closed, mind filled with thoughts of their date. Buck can’t wait.
Do you have any tips for getting into dog sports? I've got an 8-month-old dalmatian/gsd/pit mix (my absolute best friend and also the bane of my existence, teenagers are a menace lol) who's crazy smart and athletic. The stuff you do with your pups looks awesome and I think we'd both really enjoy it! I'm just not sure where to start to look for clubs/events/etc. Any advice is appreciated!
Tumblr media
Dog sports are one of those things where you either just happen to accidentally fall into it or you fight tooth and nail to find a place.
Some of the best ways to find places are to reach out to trainers/competitors in your area or close to you (FB and instagram are the easiest for this imo - if you have found any!). The rest depends on the sports you want to do and where you're located. A good way to try and find more sports would be to see if there are any in your area: google your city + "dog training club" or the sport you're looking for. See if any places offer classes (classes are a GREAT way to get started and test the waters!). Or look for events in your area and go watch! I wouldn't recommend trying to volunteer my first time watching an event, but it's a great place to get started and look for people who might know more people in your area that could help you. Most people are nice and like helping newbies out, but there are always some bad eggs in the pot!
Unfortuently, I'm not super great at finding non-American events, so I apologize if you aren't in the US! But if you are, there are a couple websites that you can check out. For AKC sanctioned events (FastCAT/AKC agility/Rally-O/Confo/etc), AKC has an event calendar.
For things like disc, you can check out UpDog's event page, Skyhoundz event page, USDDN (international), UFO (international), Quadruped, or AWI.
Agility has a couple besides AKC: UKI, CPE, NADAC, and USDAA.
Dock has a few with the main one being NADD and Ultimate Air Dogs.
For flyball, UFLI has a tournament list page. NAFA also does tournaments but I only do UFLI and NAFA's website looks like hasn't been updated since, like, the 90s.
There are other sports, like bitesports (PSA/IGP/Mondio/French Ring) or racing (AOK9, etc) but I know nothing about the racing world and bitesports are one of those sports (much like Flyball tbh) where you'd need to reach out to a club first because a club will make or break a dog.
I got into agility back in like, 2019 or something because I took classes from a local facility and went to some AKC events and asked around. I got into PSA because I googled "bitesports [city]" and found the closest club was an hour a half, so I emailed them. And then made that drive every weekend for 10 or so months haha (I put so many miles on my car). Moved to Wisconsin and reached out to a disc club local to me asking for a private lesson in disc on Facebook, ended up accidentally getting invited to play Toss & Fetch and my disc obsession spiraled from there. Ended up getting into flyball because I made friends with a lot of flyball people at disc. Everything else I've tried (like barn hunt/herding/etc) was a combination of looking on the AKC event page and going "I can do that", a friend going "you can do this, come to X event", or me frantically googling locations or sports or classes or private lessons.
When I first started out, I struggled a LOT. In Texas, there were quite a few places and clubs around me, but I only had about three months of that before I moved to Arkansas, which was a dog sport dead zone. I didn't have the connections or knowledge to even know where to look to get access to those places. It took me months to find the one single place where I could rent an agility field. I spent most of my time throwing a frisbee in a park not even knowing that disc was a dog sport I could compete in. Luckily, where I am now is pretty dominated by the sports I love and I've made a lot of really amazing connections which helps with knowing the who's/what's/how's of everything!
Good luck and I hope this helps!
“Be my guest it looks harder than it is”
Tumblr media
Y/N pov
I had just got up, I should've been up at the crack of dawn. I walked to the kitchen to see if there anything to eat or I could make when I hear Tenzin voice "That sport is a mockery of the noble tradition of bending" what are they talking about I wonder. "Come on, Tenzin! I've dreamed about seeing a pro-bending match since I was a kid and now I'm just a ferry ride away from" I hear Korra say. So this is about pro-bending I knew Tenzin would never agree to it. I walked into the kitchen so that I could get something to eat or cook as I walked the both of them turned their heads to see me waking in "good morning Y/N" Tenzin said, I nodded my head to acknowledge him that heard him. Tenzin than turned his head back to Korra and said "Korra, you're not here to watch that drivel. You're here to finish your Avatar training" I look at Korra and see her face is filled with disappointment "So, for the time being, I want you to remain on the island" "all right, you're the master" Korra said sadly as she looked out the window.
As the both of them got up and walked I followed I walked beside Korra and I knew than that Tenzin had something important to say "So, my mother informed me that you've never been able to airbend before" "Yeah, but I don't know why. The other elements came so easily to me, but every single time I've tried airbending, nothing" Korra said frustrated with her left hand on her hip. I put my hand on her shoulder to give her some comfort and it does she turned her head and gave me a smile as I gave her a faint smile of my own which I quickly replaced it with a neutral face.
Placing his right hand on her shoulder "That's perfectly all right. You just need to be patient. Often the element that's the most difficult for the Avatar to master is the one most opposite to the Avatar's personality. For Aang, it was earthbending" "Yeah. Well, I'm about as opposite an airbender as you can get." Korra say sadly, I just shook my head and it was true she was but thats doesn't define her and I told her the multiple times but she never listens. We started walking as Tenzin spoke "Let's begin your first lesson" Korra looked at the airbending master dumbfoundead about what he was saying as we walked up the stairs we saw the three airbending kids Ikki was jumping excitedly while screaming "Korra's gonna airbend! Korra's gonna airbend!" Jinora in the other hand stood there solemnly and than Meelo just doing his own thing.
"What is that contraption" Korra said slightly amused to see the spinning gates "A time honored tool that teaches the most fundamental aspect of airbending. Jinora, would you like to explain this exercise?" Jinora step forward and walk closer to the spinning gates and stared explaining "The goal is to weave your way through the gates and make it to the other side without touching them" "Seems easy enough" Korra confidently said I doubt that Korra. Now it was Ikki's truns to say something "Jinora forgot to say that you have to make it through while the gates are spinning" she say said with some much energy "sprites where does she get her energy" I think to my self that girl has a lot.
Tenzin step forward and took an air bending stance his hands above his head than he thrust his hand forward, releasing a bust of air. 'Well Korra good luck' I think to myself, as keep watching Tenzin coat is blowing behind him with the amount of he just airbent I switch my focus back onto the gates and it's spinning like a lot. Tenzin had a left in his hand, he than let it go of the leaf gently "The key is to be like the leaf." Tenzin said as I watched the leaf movements as the leaf want thought the gates it never touched the gate even once "Jinora will demonstrate" Tenzin said with a serious face and looking down at Jinora as she looked up at her dad.
Jinora stepped forward and airbent the gates than she step into the spinning gates her hand held up to her face as tenzin watched his oldest daughter. Waving her way though the gates switching direction each time a spinning panel came near her "airbending is all about spiral movements. When you meet resistance, you must be able to switch direction at a moment's notice" I already knew about as I studied and learn all forms of bending. Jinora exited in the other side of the gates the panels were now being to slow down. Jinora truned around than blow a gust of air making the panels spin rapidly again and here I am standing next to Tenzin as thinking I could maybe I cloud I have never done the spinning gates.
"Let's do this" Korra said determined to get through the gate without getting hit. I watch as Korra runs into the contraption the first panel was easy to get through but the rest was hard as Korra tried to get through the panels but hitting all of them Tenzin grimaced in pain watching Korra. As she got hit by two panels again and finally Korra makes it out of the spinning gates as she got knock down by the panels, Korra soon got back up on her feet and ran into the spinning gates again as me, Tenzin, three kids watched. "Don't force your way through!" Jinora shoted with her hand cupped so that Korra could hear her" I can hear korra getting hit by the panels
"Y/N has Korra ever been light on her feet?" I look at Tenzin and back to the spinning gates and answer while watching my sister fail to get through the gates "not much Tenzin but sometimes she has, she is able to dodge rocks that come to her but it look like it's not helping that she is learning airbending" "I see" Tenzin says I just nodded. "Dance! Dance like the wind!" Ikki shouted at Korra, Korra got knocked back by one of the panels "Be the leaf" Meelo told Korra while waving his arms to motion the leaf. Korra made it out the gates as we walked to her she feel to ground I look at my sister and than back to the gates maybe I could try.
"Tenzin do you mind if I try?" I asked "be my guest it look harder than it is" Korra say to while getting up. Tenzin noded his head and airbent the gates I watched for moment than walked in with my hand held up to my face and staying light in my feet 'When you meet resistance, you must be able to switch direction at a moment's notice' I hear Tenzin voice in my head as I switch directions and repeat again as I get though the last panel I look at the airbending master and my sister "well how did I do?" I asked tenzin looked shocked and surprised as well as Korra but I saw a hit of jealousy in Korra. "That was amazing" Ikki yelled as she jump "yeah that awesome Y/N" Jinora said to me I both of them a small smile.
"Yeah that was awesome you should do it again" I hear Meelo I chuckled at that. I tuned to see Tenzjn looking at me "that indeed was great Y/N I have never seen anyone go through the spinning gates in their first try" "yeah that was great" Korra said with a hit of jealousy I just smirked at that I knew her well enough for her to be so "thank you Tenzin it looks like my studies have payed off oh and Korra stop mopping it doesn't look good in if your want to airbend you gotta start thing like an airbender ok?" I say as I turn to Korra she look at me and gaves me a nod.
"I think that's enough of training for today" Tenzin told the kids and Korra. Tenzin turned to me " Y/N can I speak to you?" "sure" I said following him to his office. "What is that you wanted to talk about Tenzin?" I asked as I stood crossing my arms "Y/N I need to ask you a favor" we'll this strange "what is it Tenzin? spit it out" "well you know your sister gets into a lot of trouble" "yes, I know Tenzin" "well I was hoping you would keep her out of trouble" "Tenzin I do that already. I'm 30 Tenzin I've been this for a long time you don't need to worry about Korra. with the whole Amon thing you need to focus on that and training Korra I'll try to keep her out trouble" "thank you Y/N" "is that all? I would like to go practice some bending before dinner" I asked Teznin "yes that is all thank you again" I gave him a nod than left his office.
"Airbend!" Korra said while punching forward I heard Korra so was frustrated that she could airbend but she need to be patient as I walk I see a newpaper with the picture of the chief of police Lin Beifong I think about her for a bit but I was bought back by korra "what is wrong with me? airbend" "you know that's not gong to work right" I say as I walk up to her. Korra was still sanding in the same position as she was before still trying to airbend but soon she became frustrated and impatient sighing as she sent a fire punch at the newspaper , I wanted to read that uhg guesse I'll go find a different one later.
"Aargh! Maybe I'm just not cut out to be an airbender, huh, Naga" Korra say frustrated "now don't say that Korra" I say as I put my hand in her right shoulder.
________________________________
"I think I'm doing it wrong" I head Korra as walked to where they were. "Mind if I join?" I asked as everyone look to where I was standing "you don't even have to ask Y/N" Jinora said I sat down next crossing my legs, hands relaxed on my legs, closing my eyes as I take a deep breath in and out. Tenzin opens his eyes "There's nothing to do. Let your mind and your spirit be free" I knew when Tenzin said that Korra look annoyed "for air is the element of freedom" Korra chuckled at that and waved her hands. "Is something ... funny?" Teznin asked in dismay "Yeah, you're telling me to embrace freedom, but you won't even let me listen to the radio. And forget about leaving this island!" Korra said her voice filled with a bit of angry 'yup that's my sister the avatar but she does have a point' I think to myself.
"Please, Korra" Tenzin said than points at his Meelo "Look at Meelo; he's able to meditate peacefully" by now I had open my eyes and started watching them "umm Tenzin I think he's sleeping" I say to him, me and Korra look at each other than back to Meelo "What? Well, at least he has the relaxing part down." "Whatever. None of this airbending stuff makes any sense to me" Korra say clearly annoyed "I know you're frustrated, but these teachings will sink in over time. Then one day, they'll just click" Tenzin than closed his eyes and took a deep breath than opens his eyes. Korra tried agian but than soon gave up with a sigh "Yeah, it's not sinking in yet" Korra got up and stayed waking away "I'm gonna go get a glass of lychee juice."
"Korra, the meditation's not over yet!" Tenzin told Korra sternly but Korra was already gone "Daddy, can I have some lychee juice too?" Ikki asked with a hopeful smile "No" Tenzin told Ikki sternly. I just sighed "come on Tenizn just let her get some lychee juice" "fine" Teznin said Ikki smiled and jumped up and she came to hug me than left. "I didn't know you had a heart Y/N" Tenzin said to me, I looked at him with my eyebrow raised "and what's thats supposed to mean Tenzin" I say in a dangerously low voice "no.... nothing" he say quickly I smirk at that. "Good, I do remember beating you in a sparring match before Teznin wanna rematch?" I say, he look at me and shook his head "no I don't think so, I'm not going to fight a battle I know imma lose" he say "alright Teznin" I say, I gave him one Final look than left.
________________________________
"Patience, Korra!" Tenzin told Korra as she tried to get through the spinning gates but failing at it. If she keeps up with this than well than the gates might be destroyed and I was right Korra firebended as she destroyed the panels. As Teznin and the three kids look at Korra with wide eyes especially Tenzin "That was a two-thousand-year-old historical treasure!" Tenzin closes his eyes in frustration "what ..." Teznin angrily shouts at Korra making his cape fluttered behind him "what is wrong with you?" "There's nothing wrong with me! I've been practicing just like you taught me, but it isn't sinking in, okay? It hasn't clicked like you said it would" Korra said angry angrily at Tenzin.
"Korra, this isn't something you can force. If you would only listen to me ..." Teznin said calmer with his eyes closed "I have been! But you know what I think? Maybe the problem isn't me! Maybe the reason I haven't learned airbending yet is because" Korra pointed at Tenzin "you're a terrible teacher" "enough korra" I told her sternly she knew not to mess with me I might be her sister but I was also her water bending master with master Katara. Korra looked at me as if she wanted to say something I narrowed my eyes at her, she quickly shut her mouth and left.
I sigh "I'm sorry Teznin about Korra's behavior" "it's alright Y/N it's not your fault your doing your best" Teznin told me" he say as he put his hand my shoulder I gave him small smile which I never showed anywho beside some people. He seem shocked to see me smile even if it was lilttle he smiled back at me. "Yeah! You're a terrible teacher, Daddy!" Meelo said as he pointed his finger energetically at his dad. The two girls just hugged there dad I smiled at that.
Pema puts down the tray in the table "Okay! Everyone here?" Pema looked around to see if anyone was missing motherly instincts kicking in I guesed "Wait. Where's Korra" "Honestly, Pema, I am at my wit's end with that girl! I ... I don't know how to get through to her" that's all I heard before I zoned out think abt the chief 'spirits she's beautiful and yet no seem to notice that about her I wish that I could spend some time with her what I gave to know get to know her' I think to myself. I was only bought back when I heard Teznin "You must promise me that your teenage years won't be like this" "I will make no such promises" Jinora replied to her dad emotionlessly. Out of all the three kids I was closest to Jinora she was quite and intelligence but she was just a kid still so I let her be one when she's with me. I usually don't like people see this side of me which no will I hope.
________________________________
I was with Tenzin trying to find my sister as we found a group of guards "Pardon me, everyone, have you seen Korra this evening? She's not in her room" he asked the guards. "You've gotta be kidding me! She's the Avatar, folks! Playing in a pro-bending match!" Well Teznin Pisa's his face is all red and his eyebrows twitch in anger , I on the other hand was still neutral "Can you believe that" uhg I swear Korra if anything happens I'm going to water wip you all the way back home. "I'll get her myself!" Teznin angrily says as her turn around to go get Korra and I went with him.
I looked at Korra my arms crossed while she look up at me and Tenzin "Oh, hey, Tenzin. I thought you didn't like coming to these matches and Y/N what are you doin-" "can't it" I snap at her. "Once again, you have flagrantly disobeyed my orders. You were to stay on the island! Let's go" Teznin said to Korra as I just stared at the players that were in the podium i thoses were her teammates but I don't care I gave them a hard glare. "No! I'm kind of in the middle of something" Korra shots at Teznin ". I have tried my very best to get through to you by being gentle and patient" his voice getting anger "but clearly the only thing you respond to is force! So I am ordering you to come back to the temple right now."
Is this going to be often I think them fighting "Why? So I can sit around and meditate about how bad I am at airbending? You know, I'm beginning to think there's a reason I haven't been able to learn it! Because, maybe, I don't even need it! it! know, I'm beginning to think there's a reason I haven't been able to learn it! Because, maybe, I don't even need it" "What? That is a ludicrous suggestion!" Teznin say than points at Korra "the Avatar needs to learn airbending! It is not optional!" I've had enough of them yelling at each other.
"No! This is what I need to learn! Modern styles of fighting" Korra say while pointing at the podium. "Being the Avatar isn't all about fighting, Korra! When will you learn that" Teznin told Korra but Korra has already truned and started to walk away "I have a match to go finish". I sighed uncrossing my arm so they fall to my sides.
Ring announcer
"The Platypus Bears win round two! The moment Korra stands on the platform, it starts ascending." Round three over. The Platypus Bears come out of the gate and quickly go after the Ferret brothers! They're corralled in the corner, wedged in the edge of zone one, unable to come to the Avatar's rescue! And boy, does she need it" (okay y'all I'm getting tried of writing this part so imma skip I know I can't keep skipping but in my defense I'm writing some long chapters for y'all)
The opposing firebender look annoyed by this sudden change; he and his team mates attack again. Korra who nimbly dodges their attack. Korra's feet, moving like an airbender would. Teznin look surprised and so do I for a little bit but not for long "How about that?" Teznin said dumbfounded.
Ring announcer
"The Platypus Bears have no juice left, but Mako and Bolin are still fresh and juicy"
'So that's there names huh Mako and Bolin not bad.'
"Knockout!" The ring announcer says so this mean they win not bad Korra.
I looked to the side and saw Teznin "woohoo!"he yelled as he pointed at the arena.
Ring announcer
"The Fire Ferrets come from waaay behind and steal the win! What an upset, folks! The rookies, Avatar in tow, have nabbed a place in the championship tournament! I can not believe it"
________________________________
Teznin and me arrived at the island as we talked about the situation that's been going on in the city. We stop when we're near foot steps coming our way I knew it was Korra , Teznin glanced over his shoulder to see Korra. We truned around to see Korra as she started talking "I'm really sorry ... about everything I said" pointing to her self "I was really frustrated with myself" she than gestured toward Teznin "and I took it out on you" "I think I owe you an apology too. I was trying to teach you about patience, but I lost mine" "No hard feelings?" Korra asked hopefully "Of course not. By the way, you were really good out there tonight. You moved just like an airbender."
"Wait ... You stayed and watched" "yes we did Korra you really did a great job out there" I said to my sister she beamed at my praise not often do people get any praise from me . "We did. Pro-bending turned out to be the perfect teaching tool for you" Korra tuned around and started jogging in place "I'll see you tomorrow for airbending practice, bright and early" she said than turned around jogging away from us but not before she told us something "and, by the way, I kinda permanently joined the Fire Ferrets and we're playing in the tournament in a couple of weeks" finally now I can go to bed I deserves it. Before I left I looked at Teznin and asked "please tell me that you guys aren't going to fight anymore?" "well , I don't know about that" he said as he walked away "it better be a no Teznin. I am not dealing with you two fighting like kids" I shouted.
Feeling satisfied I turn around and went to my room I changed in my pajamas lay down on my bed. I stared at the ceiling for a while now thing about the chief. I can't stop thinking about her I wonder why. I sigh than close my eyes As feel the my eyes get heavy and so I drift off to sleep.
Lin pov
I found out what the avatars sisters name was after the speech that Korra gave. her name 'Y/N it's such a beautiful name' wait what am I thinking 'she's to young Beifong, she wouldn't want to be with you and you had your fair share of love' "I really need to do something about this" I say out loud as I pull up to my apartment. 'What am I feeling right now, why can't I stop thinking about her' I think to myself I didn't even realize that I was at my apartment door already.
Metal bending the door open I step into my apartment and went to my room, metal bending my armor off and putting it in my closet. I decided to take shower it's been such a exhausting day but my is flooded with the thought of the waterbender agian. I grabbed my towel and went to the bathroom taking off my clothes and turning on the shower. I step in under the the cool water I feel better but I still can't stop thing about
Y/N 'come on Beifong she's to young she would never want to be with you' "uhg why can't you just stop" I say out loud.
I finish off my shower and change into my Pajamas getting ready for bed. Finally I can rest I close my eyes but seem like I can't sleep, I stare up at my ceiling trying to think of something else besides of Y/N "uhg come on your a Beifong for fucks sake" I scold myself. I feel my eyes get heavy and I shut my eyes.
The POV will change a lot I will be using 1st point of view but later on in my writing it will change keep that in mind.
The Cyan Roses and Their Connection to Bobby
Ever since I first watched the streams from Bobby's death I have been intrigued by the cyan roses that appeared and how the admins used them story wide, hence my username. So today I've decided to gather up all my thoughts about these flowers and explain how they stand out as a unique symbol in the qsmp. First I'll start with a summary of the cyan rose appearances on the day of Bobby's farewell and then I'll go into speculation about what these flowers could mean for the story the admins are telling.
So the day after Bobby lost his last life in the dungeon, both Roier and Jaiden reunited at Roier's house and Bobby's castle where they chatted with Cucurucho since Bobby's fate was still up in the air. After Cucurucho told them both to gather all their friends together, Cucurucho leaves and Roier and Jaiden both notice a single cyan rose right in front of the entrance to Bobby's castle.
Tumblr media
Both of them point out that this flower wasn't there before and despite there being no other flowers like it around the house or castle, the flower's color and placement instantly reminds both Roier and Jaiden of Bobby.
Cut forward to when Roier, Jaiden, and everyone else in the server start the journey to make it to where Bobby died, the group notices a trail of cyan roses that seem to point in the direction they're taking.
Tumblr media
The path of cyan roses doesn't last too long but Jaiden immediately points out their importance and begins to pick up all of the flowers she can despite it slowing her down (Baghera helps her too).
Then when the group finally made it to the top of the dungeon, they discovered an elevator block that took them to the white QSMP room where other parents had also met with the spirits of their dead eggs, only it was now decorated with grass blocks around the room and some of Bobby's favorite things. Cucurucho then explained that Bobby was actually dead and once Jaiden and Roier agreed to take the 10 minutes with Bobby that Cucurucho offered, Cucurucho started to place cyan roses on the grass blocks around the room until a bunch of cyan roses encircled the room.
Tumblr media
After Cucurucho had placed the flowers and everyone else left, the wall opened up so Roier and Jaiden could see Bobby, now sporting a halo. They spent their 10 minutes with Bobby and got even more time with him as everyone else got to come back and wish Bobby farewell.
Since that day, the cyan roses have become important to Roier and Jaiden with Jaiden using the roses she gathered from that day to decorate her sunset watching spot at the new base she made in Bobby's memory. While Roier has not added any new cyan roses around the house and castle, the cyan rose that they first found in front of the castle has remained untouched to this day. Other characters have also picked up on the cyan roses' connection to Bobby. Leonarda hung up a framed cyan rose on the wall of Bobby's tomb while she was building it and Richarlyson and Cellbit used cyan roses to decorate the cafe made in Bobby's honor, Star Bobby.
Speculation Time
At first the cyan roses seem to be just a simple decoration the admins added to add some beauty and symbolism to the day of Bobby's farewell but this still stand out as the first time a unique item has been linked to a character in such a way in the server. While a lot of the eggs have items associated with them, what makes the cyan roses stand out with Bobby is that Bobby had never been associated with cyan roses before. Bobby was associated with flowers since he and Jaiden have given each other flowers before, but Bobby had never interacted with cyan roses before from what I can tell. Yet, these flowers seem to be associated with Bobby's presence.
What recently clued me into the roses being more than just decoration was when Forever recently broke into a Federation base and discovered a cyan rose inside of a password protected chest. Why would the Federation keep a single flower like this protected?
While this could be a red herring, all the other previous clues make me believe that the roses were important for bringing back Bobby. Rubius recently said he came back as the angel for the first egg funeral because the Federation needed his help temporarily bringing the eggs' spirits back. The angel wasn't there for Bobby's death though. What Cucurucho did do before Bobby's spirit was revealed was place the cyan roses around the room, almost like a summoning circle. Perhaps the Federation figured out how to imbue the flowers with parts of Bobby's soul/essence. Going with the qsmp's theme of codes and computer simulations, maybe the flowers are connected to Bobby's code somehow.
Now I do not want to get anyone's hope up about a potential Bobby resurrection. Jaiden has a bunch of these flowers around her house and there's still no sign of Bobby, but I do think these flowers may hint towards the Federation's potential experiments with mortality/immortality. Just keep an eye out for anymore cyan roses popping up in connection to the Federation.
ok, so i got into f1 through dts in the past few years, and then stumbled across the brocedes rabbit hole recently. before that i didn't really know/like nico at all, because everyone made out like he was awful and obsessed with lewis. but i've just been watching the 2016 season, and not only is nico actually really nice (especially when he keeps being booed by crowds for literally no reason) but i have to say that i was shocked by how unreliable both mercedes cars were in that season. like, people make it out as though lewis' car was breaking down all the time and nico's was perfect, but in almost every race where lewis had car issues, so did nico. even watching the sky sports coverage (where they do talk almost non-stop about lewis and are definitely biased towards him), the number of times that they interview niki or toto going 'oh it was a perfect race for nico but car issues for lewis' and toto or niki say that actually both cars had issues is insane. also, people keep saying that nico would deliberately speak foreign languages in the cooldown room to exclude lewis (which im obviously not discounting), but in almost all of the cooldown rooms that they've shown for this season, it's just really awkward and quiet as they don't talk to each other, or anyone at all really. i feel like nico has just been done so dirty by everyone
come here anon let me kiss you with tongue
i went through this exact journey of discovery too where I was like yeahhhh everyone hates this guy! boo 🍅🍅🍅 so I went looking deeper into why (so I can be an #informed hater) and then I was like HUH.... he's not the manipulative evil obsessed with lewis can't get over their past relationship dude he's portrayed in fanon or exacerbated by sky news. in fact he was well liked by the grid!!! he invited others on Air Rosberg so they could all go travel together. and don't get me started on The Narratives of it all. my man was getting booed at Silverstone or for beating lewis, and he was saying thank you to the fans... the tifosi booed him for winning Monza and he turned that around and made them sing with him!!! (and then kravitz called it embarrassing 😶)
the British sky coverage bias is SO real, and not do get me started on the crashes which are all framed as "Nico got envious and rammed into Lewis" and not the amount of times Lewis didn't leave enough space, or he was the one who caused it....... but I digress. the W-06s were kind of like the 2022 Ferraris where they were insanely fast but notoriously unreliable. fucking hell when Nico won the championship -- EVERYONE including his own team of Toto and Niki were talking about whether Lewis lost due to DNFs, and it took sebastian vettel to be like. hey. can we talk about Nico's deserved win tho?
lewis was asked if he thought the better man won and he said he didn't agree with that, and then when he retired was like "oh I'm not surprised, it's the first time he's won anything in 20 years." 🥴🥴🥴
every time someone learns more about nico over what's regurgitated about him they're always Huh... he's just some well meaning cringe dude... and not an evil mastermind 🤥 I do not discount that they've both hurt each other in ways we're not aware of, but everything that's publicly available means that's not our stance to take (hate a guy on Behalf of lewis cause he won't say his name)
now I don't blame fans -- how would you know about something that happened like 7 years ago now? and Lewis is very skilled at the narratives around him, he had a team that despite letting both drivers race was clearly behind him; and everything since DTS, fanon has been reinforcing the same narrative.
ultimately, nico won 2016 and lewis won the narrative.
sorry this answer got so long!!! i have mental problems!!! happy to recruit you in our large number of 6 nicologists if you now swing that way. 💕
"God, Nancy, I busted my ass in grad school to be this magazines "How to" girl and write articles like, 'How to know what color looks best on you' or 'How to use the best pickup lines.'"
"I want to write about things that actually matter, like politics and the environment, the earth - things I'm interested in, things I want to write."
It's true, you worked hard to get into a magazine like this. More to get a name for yourself, to get more offers and opportunities for your writing career. You wanted to write about stuff that mattered, stuff that you cared about, not about shoes or clothes.
"Keep busting your ass, you'll get there." Nancy replied as she gave you a tight lip smile. "Hey, I've got something to help cheer you up.. you know that guy from sports illustrated that you've been recklessly flirting with on the phone for like whooo, a month now? He made a very special delivery this morning." She said, holding up and waving what seemed to be a piece of paper while smirking at you.
"Oh, ha ha, let me see." You then replied, trying to snatch whatever she was waving in the air.
"Don't- no!" She practically yelled, attempting to hide the piece of paper in her hand.
"Hey!" You eventually got it and looked at your now tickets for a basketball game you always end up watching on tv. "Whoooo! Tomorrow night" This was exciting. Guess your 'reckless flirting' paid off.
"What happens tomorrow night?" Nancy said while smirking even more now.
"Only the most exhilarating and artistic display of athletic competition known to mankind."
"The lce Capades are in town?" She questioned.
"No, the NBA Finals are in town, and l got tickets!" You said loudly for your other coworkers to hear. "Nance, come with me?"
"All right, i'll go. But l am not putting out." She said, eying you up and down.
"Oh, please nance two stale jumbo dogs and a couple of beers, you'll be whistling a different tune." You said seductively while walking to your office right next to hers. Only a couple of little grey walls separating your small workplaces apart.
"You know what l like." she smiled.
"Ohhh mmmmwah" you sent a kiss her way.
"Good morning, ladies. Don't forget, staff meeting in 30 minutes." Your very nosy and slightly annoying coworker, Michelle, says as she walks by. Only a couple offices down and you can still hear her loud gossiping.
You and Nancy exchange a look as she walks away. Yep, Michelle was definitely made for this business.
"Robin, I haven't seen her all morning. Have you?" you asked. Robin, your best friend, going all the way back to college. She was your assigned roommate, who knew all it took was for her to spill soda all over your white rug and start rapidly apologizing to form an unbreakable friendship. Ever since then you'd bonded, especially since you both had a passion for writing and were pursuing a degree in that field. Obviously a magazine wasn't a first choice - hell not even a choice at all but this would open many opportunities for you and Robin and you both just couldn't pass up on it.
"Ten to one she's wallowing."
"l'll get her, you get the coffee and meet me in the corner in 20." You said rushing towards the door.
"Wait, Wait, Wait." Nancy shouted as she reached below her desk and pulled out a black bag and stuffed it with samples scattered all over her space.
"Take some samples." She said as she handed them to you.
"Samples! Great idea." You smiled at her, rushing out of there.
"Oh boy. Drama, drama, drama." Nancy said to herself as she stood up, grabbed her purse and also made her way out of the office area.
You rushed down the stairs, grabbed a shirt off a clothing rack that Robin would definitely like and made your way out towards the apartment you shared with Robin.
─────────────────────────
Arriving at his designated workplace. Of course this wasn't even a choice for him, if you asked the old Eddie where he'd see himself in a couple years he'd most likely reply with "Traveling the world with my band" or "Living out the rockstar dream". He'd never thought he'd be an advertising executive. It was either this in the big city of Indianapolis or a cashier at a local gas station back in Hawkins.
How could he turn down this job though? Steve, his best friend, who also happens to be one of his coworkers, talked to his dad, basically begging to let Eddie have a job given Steve's dad owns the business.
Luckily, although it took a lot of convincing, Steve's dad finally gave in and offered Eddie a job to work alongside Steve.
Eddie's grateful towards Steve for the opportunity, it helped him get enough cash to stop dealing, move out of his uncle's trailer, and move to Indianapolis to his own apartment.
Life was great for Eddie, he has a decent job, great friends, he even traded his rusty old van for a much better motorcycle. Everything was going well but yet he longed for something more.
"Hello Eddie." Chrissy, Eddie's coworker said as she walked past him parking his motorcycle not even sparing him a second glance
"Hey, hey, good morning, Cunningham" Eddie replied, now getting off his motorcycle and walking towards Chrissy. Who's now reading a magazine.
"What are you reading, girl? You catching up on your current events? ''Turn-On Tricks: How to Make Him Hot.'' You know, if you want to try those out sometime, we should get together." he said jokingly.
"Victoria and l have an appointment at Composure, the fastest growing magazine in the country, and seeing as how our clients run a lot of our campaigns in their nationally-syndicated little girlie magazine, it wouldn't hurt you to do a little reading."
As if on cue, "Hey Eddie" Victoria said as she walked out the building towards Chrissy and himself.
"Good morning, Victoria"
"You finally decided to show up today?" She asked.
"Yes I did."
"You ready?" Victoria asked Chrissy.
"Ready. Later Eddie." Chrissy said as both of Eddie's coworkers walked towards a taxi.
"Have a nice day, ladies." He said walking into the building.
─────────────────────────
You knocked on your apartment door, since you knew Robin was home there was no need to search for your key.
"Hi!" Robin said, laughing nervously as she opened the door. You could tell Robin was holding back her tears. You knew her better than yourself and it hurt seeing her like this.
"Oh.." She said as she started sobbing the closer you walked in.
"Good morning, sunshine. Don't cry, go get dressed. Staff meeting, 15 minutes. Let's go" You said as you walked by her to open the living room curtains. As much as you wanted to comfort her you knew she would turn into a sobbing mess if you started asking questions. You only had 15 minutes and getting her ready for her job seemed better than for her to be heartbroken and jobless.
"l'm going back to bed. l have no reason to live." Robin said as she jumped on her bed pulling the covers up.
"Sun's out. Oh..." You said as you walked towards the table and grabbed the little black bag that Nancy handed you.
"Okay, just..." She stopped talking as she harshly blew on her nose with a handkerchief.
"Okay, now..." you said as you sat down on her bed and tossed her the shirt you grabbed on your way home.
"Cashmere?" She asked with a slight smile on her face. You knew she'd like it.
"Put it on. It'll make your eyes look fiercely blue." You smiled at her.
"Oh!" She said as she clutched the shirt tighter to her chest.
"Get up Robin. l'm not going to let you lose your job on top of everything else."
"Oh." she said as if she was on the verge of tears.
"Come here." you extended your arms to pull her in for a hug.
"Oh, Y/N." she got up and pulled you into a tight hug.
"Okay." you said.
"Okay." she replied.
"You only dated the girl for a week."
"It was the best week of my life." She said as she bursted into tears.
"Sweetheart." you squeezed her tighter.
─────────────────────────
"Good morning, Ladies! What's up, Jonathan." Eddie greeted as he walked by his coworkers' offices, making his way towards his own office he shared with Steve.
"What's up, kitty cat?" Eddie said to Steve as he walked into their shared office, towards his side of the room.
"What's up, daddy? Big night?" Steve asked as he removed his headphones.
"Not bad." Eddie said as he placed down his helmet on the side of his desk.
"Orgy?" Steve asked.
"Where were you man?" Eddie snorted.
"Not at an orgy." Steve said as he walked to Eddie's desk.
"Did you hear?" Jonathan asked as he suddenly walked into the room.
"What, that my Knickerbockers are now in the championship series and Jonny 'the bone' here owes me 20 bucks?" Eddie said as he removed his leather jacket.
"Pay him." Steve said to Jonathan.
"Oh, man. Well, you were right. DeLauer Diamonds is looking for a new ad agency. Mr. Harrington wants to move on it aggressively." Jonathan said as he pulled out a 20 and gave it to Eddie.
"Yes! Oh, this is a good day. This is a good day! Guys, did you know that diamonds are about as common as taxis on Fifth avenue?" Eddie said as he pulled off his black Metallica shirt to put on a more work appropriate shirt. He felt eyes on him outside his office, probably his other female coworkers he always catches staring at him. It still surprises him that he somehow turned his title from "Freak" to "Ladies man."
"The value is entirely sentimental, maintained by a supply, demand and advertising." Eddie said as Jonathan showed him two shirts to choose from.
"Stripes." Eddie said, pointing to a striped shirt and catching it as Jonathan threw it at him.
"Now, DeLauer dominates the world diamond market. Meaning if l represent them, l basically represent the entire industry." Eddie said as he flicked a little ad of Mrs. DeLauer.
Steve and Jonathan then gave each other a look and muttered something only for them to hear.
"What?" Eddie asked.
"My dad gave it to the judys." Steve said.
"Chrissy and Victoria, they're already on it." Jonathan added.
"No way!" Eddie said disappointed.
"Yeah, well, you know, Mr. Harrington is kind of partial to hot leggy chicks, for some reason." Jonathan said as he looked towards Eddie who was now looking out the glass window at the three girls who were staring this whole time. They quickly looked away as Eddie gave them a glance.
"Yeah, we're the, you know, the sneakers and beer division. Precious gems aren't exactly our forte." Jonathan added.
Eddie, who was now fully clothed, pointed to the window as he made his way towards the door "Lips and Hips are over at a chick's magazine right now. I gotta get to Mr. Harrington before they sink-"
Jonathan got in the way of the door before Eddie could walk out "You can't. You can't. He's on a plane."
"Easy pal, my dads at a Chicago meeting." Steve said as he patted Eddie's shoulder and slightly pushed him back.
"And it's too late anyway 'cause Mr. Harrington's meeting them for drinks at Mullin's tonight to discuss their idea-"
"This isn't happening. You know why?" Eddie said, interrupting Jonathan.
"This was my tip. It's gonna be my pitch, my account, my campaign. This is my baby." Eddie said with determination.
"That's what I'm talking about." Said Steve.
"They will not ace me outta this." Eddie said as he fist pumped Steve and Jonathan.
"I heard that!" Jonathan added.
"Okay.. Mullins tonight." Eddie confirmed as he walked back towards his desk.
"I heard that!!" Steve mocked Jonathan.
─────────────────────────
You walked out the taxi and walked towards the other side to Robin blowing her nose and Nancy running towards you both with coffees in her hand.
"Hi!" Nancy greeted Robin as she handed her a coffee.
"Hi. I don't really wanna talk about it okay?" Robin replied as she discarded the handkerchief in her purse and closed the taxi door.
"Okay." Nancy replied, handing you your coffee.
"Okay." Robin replied as you three walked towards the entrance of your work before stopping abruptly.
"Why does this always happen to me?" Robin said as she started tearing up again. "Things are going great for like a week and a half, and then all of a sudden it's over and I am mystified. Seriously, I am mystified because it always starts out so well." She rambled as she walked away from you both and towards the entrance.
"Poor baby." Nancy said as you both tried to catch up with Robin.
"Let's just roll with this" You said.
"Vickie and I had such a connection." Robin said as she stopped again in front of the entrance and turned to face you both.
"The first time that we had sex... it was so beautiful, I cried." She smiled and walked away into the building.
"You cried?" Nancy asked as you both tried to catch up with her again.
"Yeah."
"You mean like one glistening year on your cheek, right?" You asked now side by side with your best friend walking towards an elevator.
"No, I was really emotional. I even told her that I loved her." She said.
"After how many days?" You asked.
"Five.. Two. It was how I felt. I just wanted to express myself. You know how my brain and mouth work."
"Okay. Well, what did she say?" You asked.
"Oh, Vickie didn't have to say anything. I know that she felt the same. But then she started getting really busy and I didn't know where she was. I kept calling her, and calling her but she was never home."
"You kept calling her?" You asked looking into her eyes with a "Really robin?" look.
"I didn't leave a message. She didn't know it was me.. my numbers blocked."
The elevator dinged and you all walked toward the opening doors.
"Oh. I'm.. I'm sure she thought it was one of her friends." Nancy said as you all walked into the elevator.
"Anyway I know why she dumped me. I'm too fat."
"You're not fat!"
"You're not fat!" You and Nancy said in sync as the elevator doors closed.
─────────────────────────
Arriving at your floor, the three of you walked into the doors and towards the staff meeting in your bosses office.
"Robin, if the most beautiful woman in the world acted the way you did, any normal partner would still go running in the other direction." You said.
"Oh, no. Nobody would go running from you, Y/N. You could barf all over them and they would say 'Do it again.'" Robin replied.
"That is both incredibly disgusting and categorically untrue. If I did the things you did, I'd get dumped too." You said as you three entered your bosses office and sat in the main area's couch, joining all your other coworkers.
"Okay, family, shoes off..." Your boss Linda entered the room and sat in a chair that faced everybody. Your coworkers, including yourself, proceeded to remove their shoes. "And breathe." She said as everybody inhaled.
"And out." Everybody exhaled.
"Okay Michelle let's start with you." Linda said.
"Well, the "Botox For Beginners" piece is done. Now, it's a little scary, but mostly upbeat. Now I'm on "What your Gyno Won't Tell You," which is also pretty scary but you know, upbeat. I finished my research on "deadly pedicures," about the woman who contracted that fungus from the unsterilized tools. It's a terrible story.. although surprisingly..." Michelle looked towards her boss and noticed her "terrible story" mistake.
"Upbeat." Nancy finished.
"Marvelous. What's next for "How-To with Y/N?" Linda asked. Now all eyes were on you.
"Well, I've been working on something that's kind of different." You said as your boss nodded confused.
"It's.. it's a political piece and it's-"
"No. Y/N. you work at Composure magazine. We are fashion, trends, diets, cosmetic surgeries, salacious gossip, that's Composure." Linda said.
"Okay, but-"
"Look, Y/N, okay. The column is new for you. When you turn it into a must read then you can write about whatever you want. Until then you can write about what I want. Understood?"
"Yeah." You said dissatisfied. You saw this coming. Your boss wouldn't let you write about what you wanted but hearing that once your column gets popular she'd let you write about whatever you wanted certainly catches your attention.
"Robin, what have you got?"
Nancy turned to Robin and gave her an encouraging nod. But there was an awkward silence waiting for Robin to answer.
"Um. I'm sorry, Linda. I wasn't feeling very well" Robin said as she looked at the ground not wanting to see the looks shared amongst others and the disappointed look on Linda's face.
"She got dumped." Nancy quickly added.
"Oh, no, Robin. What a hellish ordeal for you. But I gotta say, you are looking fabulous. Are we loving the way she looks?" Linda said, turning to the others trying to lift up the mood.
"We love the way she looks."
"Oh, you are so right."
"She looks great."
"She looks so great!"
Everyone said as they talked over one another.
"I haven't eaten since the split." Robin said.
"Good for you! Write about it."
You looked at your boss very judgmental. Obviously Robin feels uncomfortable throughout this entire conversation.
"I can't use my personal life for a story." Robin said as she lifted her head and was now looking at Linda.
"I understand completely... who will use Robin's personal life for a story?" Linda ignored Robin's protest and looked at the other workers.
"Oh I will." Michelle said proudly as she raised her hand.
"No, no, no! Linda, with all due respect, Michelle has no business mucking around in my personal life, and I can't... I can't let her. I'm-"
"I'll do it." You suddenly interrupted a rambling, distressed Robin. Of course you wouldn't actually put the heartbreak of your best friend's life in a magazine for the whole world to see but knowing Michelle and Linda, they obviously won't respect Robin's boundaries anytime soon.
Nancy and Robin both turned to you. "What?" Robin blurted out.
"I'll... I will sort of do it. It's- You will be my inspiration." You said looking at Robin.
"For?" Linda asked.
"Look at robin. She's a great girl, right?" You pointed towards Robin looking straight at your boss.
"Yes." Linda replied.
"An amazing woman." You said now looking at Robin. "But.. she has a problem hanging onto relationships and she doesn't really know what she's doing wrong, which is a lot like our readers."
"Uh-huh" Linda nodded for you to proceed.
"So, I was thinking that.. I could start dating a guy, and then drive him away, but only using the classic mistakes most women, like Robin.." You gave her a sincere look and turned back to your boss "make.. all the time. I'll keep a diary of it and.. it will be sort of a dating how-to in reverse." You said looking at Robin and Nancy who were now chuckling.
"What not to do." Your boss says smiling.
"Yeah." You smiled back.
"How to lose a guy in Ten Days." Linda said, looking at the wall, probably envisioning it in her head. "Yes. Go. Alice, what's new in the shoe?"
"Wait, wait, Linda. I'm sorry. Why ten days?" You asked.
"Five days is too short and we go to press at 11. Yes?" Linda turned her attention to Alice.
"Ten." You whispered to yourself. It's a lot longer than what you had hoped for given you only did this to save Robin from humiliation and to stop her from actually hiding under her covers for the rest of her life but then you remembered what Linda had said about you being able to write about whatever you wanted if your column made it big. Could this possibly be a ticket there?
You looked back at Robin and Nancy who nodded in approval and Robin mouthed the words "Thank you". You smiled at them with the big question flying around in your head. You were in for a long ride.
─────────────────────────
"Maybe toss in something spiritual as well." Linda said to Nancy walking towards the lobby with you and Robin right behind them.
"Ah, here's my ten o' clock. Welcome." Linda said as you all followed her as she walked towards a blonde and a brunette who seemed to be waiting for her.
"Hi." The blonde said with a smile.
"Ladies, Chrissy Cunningham and Victoria Green from Warren Advertising. We're going to cook up some fabulous tie-ins for the fall." Linda said, turning to you, Nancy, and Robin.
"Nancy Wheeler, Fashion and Trends. Robin Buckley, Fitness and Health." She said as Robin loudly blew her nose.
"Excuse me. Hi." Robin interrupted.
"And Y/N L/N our resident How-To girl." Linda continued.
"Oh, I've seen your column, Y/N. What are you working on now?" Chrissy said as she pointed at you.
"Oh-" You began but you were quickly interrupted by Linda.
"How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days. She's actually going to start dating a guy and then drive him away in a week and a half." Linda said proudly as her, Chrissy, and Victoria started laughing.
"Sounds needlessly vicious." Victoria added.
"It's going to be fabulous. Now all she has to do is run along and find the lucky guy." She said turning to you. "Go, go, go." She pointed towards the exit and turned back to the two girls.
You, Nancy, and Robin both started walking towards the exit.
"Nice to meet you." You said to the two girls.
"Ladies come." Linda said as all three of their footsteps started to reside.
You grabbed Robin's shoulder from behind. "Find the guy. Find the guy." You said distressed.
"Okay." you whispered to yourself.
─────────────────────────
"Oh you are never going to pull this off." Robin said as you, Nancy, and Robin walked across the street towards a bar, arms linked with Robin. Moonlight reflecting on your dresses and Robin’s suit.
You put on a cute grey dress with enough cleavage to be shown but to still keep the guys wondering what you looked like with your top off. Matched with high heels and a cute purse. Normally you wouldn't wear this out especially to a bar but tonight, you were on a man hunt.
"Watch me. Tonight I'll hook a guy. Tomorrow, pull the switch. Before the ten days are up, I'm gonna have this guy running for his life." You replied as all three of you laughed.
"You're not gonna burn his apartment down or bite him or anything, are you?" Nancy asked.
"No. I'm gonna limit myself to doing everything girls do wrong in relationships. Basically, everything we know guys hate. I'll be clingy, needy."
"Be touchy-feely." Nancy added.
"Yeah." You said walking towards the bar's entrance.
"Ooh. Call him in the middle of the night and tell him everything you had to eat that day." Nancy said as you both chuckled.
"What's wrong with that?" Robin asked, looking at you both. You both looked at her with concern.
"I'm.. kidding" She then said.
─────────────────────────
A waitress escorted Chrissy, Victoria, and Mr. Harrington towards a table.
"There we are. He's waiting." The kind waitress pointed at Eddie waiting for them at a table.
"Hello, Eddie. What are you doing here" Mr. Harrington asked.
"Tom, I'm here for the meeting. Ladies." Eddie replied as stood up, shaking Tom's hand and nodded towards the girls.
"But you weren't invited." Victoria said.
"Yeah, but I should have been. I mean, It was my tip that DeLauer was shopping for a new firm." Eddie said as he passed by Chrissy standing in front of Tom.
"Yes, it was, but I have to think in terms of who's best suited within the company." Tom said, looking at both Chrissy and Victoria.
"Yes, sir, and that's me. I wanna handle this pitch." Eddie replied as Chrissy chuckled.
"Eddie, you sell Joe Blow better than anyone else in my shop, including Steve, but these girls sell luxury better than anyone else in the business." Tom said proudly as he gestured towards both the girls.
All four of them sat down as Tom proceeded.
"We have to put our best foot forward on this pitch. DeLauer would be our biggest account."
"Yes, sir, they would. Annual advertising billings of 50 to 60 million dollars. And I am the man that's gonna bring this home for you, Tom." Eddie said as he poured himself a glass of champagne.
─────────────────────────
"Why this place?" Robin asked as you three entered the bar.
"Because it's perfect." You said grabbing onto Robin's shoulders and giving her a squeeze and walking further into the bar.
"Mullins is the apres-work watering hole for the upwardly mobile." Nancy added with her smart ass vocabulary.
─────────────────────────
"Now, to date, the diamond industry has always targeted men..." Eddie said as he poured champagne for Chrissy, Victoria, and Tom as he continued. "Sending the message that the woman needs the man to buy her the rock. All right, they say 'A diamond is forever.' We say, 'A diamond is for everyone.'"
"I like that." Tom said grinning towards Eddie.
"Yes." Eddie says confidently.
"Uh. We don't." Chrissy said laughingly. "'A diamond is for everyone?' It sends the message that diamonds are everywhere. Which means that they're not rare, and if they're not rare, they lose their status." Chrissy said while looking directly at Eddie.
Eddie rolled his eyes as Chrissy continued. "Status is the reason to buy them in the first place, which Edward would know if he understood women, which you don't." Chrissy finished as they all laughed at Eddie, including himself. Not because of what she said, but the fact that she's so confident with her words.
"You can't feel bad about that, Eddie. No man does." Tom said grinning.
─────────────────────────
"Here. Here." Robin said as she handed both you and Nancy a Martini.
"Dum, dum, dum, dum." Nancy mimicked a clock ticking while looking around the bar. You honestly forgot the real reason you were here for a second.
"Don't pressure her. She's perusing." Robin said, looking directly at Nancy.
"Yes, exactly." You said as all three of you scanned the room.
─────────────────────────
"Selling a diamond to a woman is like making her fall in love." Victoria said to Tom while dragging her fingers along her long diamond necklace starting from her neck to her cleavage.
Eddie scoffed but smiled at this knowing exactly what game Victoria was trying to play at.
"She has to feel giddy, desirous, adventurous and desperate." Victoria continued.
"Take a look around this room Tom. Most women in this bar are looking for just that." Chrissy added.
"Exactly. The skills required to market diamonds are the same as those needed to make a woman fall in love, yes." Eddie said, interrupting Chrissy.
"I'm not talking about lust Eddie. A woman in lust just wants chocolate. A woman in love wants diamonds."
"Yeah, I'm not talking about lust either, ladies. I'm talking about deep.. meaningful, head-over-heels, his-and-her towels, let's grow old together L-O-V-E. Look, I love women. I do. Whether they're four or 40."
Chrissy sighed at his little speech. Looking around the room she spots you.
"I respect women. All right. And I also listen to women." Eddie continued.
Chrissy's still staring at you. You're laughing at something your short hair friend said and she slowly gets an idea.
"And that's why I can sell myself to any woman.. anywhere, anytime." Eddie finished.
"Make a woman fall in love with diamonds, Edward.. or with you?" Chrissy asked, moving her attention from you to Eddie.
"Uh. Either one." Eddie replied slightly hesitating looking at Tom.
"That's cocky, Eddie." Tom said while drinking his champagne.
"No, not cocky. Confident."
Chrissy laughs at this. "I'd like to see you prove that." Chrissy said, raising her eyebrows at him.
"You would?" Eddie questioned looking at Chrissy then at Tom.
"The agency's co hosting a party for the DeLauers at the Astro museum. The party's a week from Sunday. Do you think you can make a woman fall in love with you by then?" Chrissy challenged Eddie.
"Ten days?" Eddie asked.
"Any woman, anywhere, anytime?" Victoria added mocking him from before.
"Any single, available, straight woman, yes." Eddie said.
"Yes. I'm not trying to trick you, Eddie. In fact, we'll choose a woman right here, right now in this bar. And then you'll decide." Chrissy said as Her, Victoria, and Tom laughed.
"So who's the lucky girl?" Eddie said as he adjusted himself in his seat to face the rest of the bar.
"Okay. Let's see here." Victoria began. "Ooh there's that blonde babe in the leopard print." Victoria said as she laughed and pointed to a woman with a messy pointy tail in a leopard dress that was worn out and way too tight on her.
Tom and Chrissy joined in on her laughter. "She looks like fun." Victoria added.
"Be nice, ladies." Eddie said as a little chuckle escaped his lips.
"Or, well, Miss Babylon 5. Now she's on the prowl." Victoria said talking about a curl headed curl with colored hair and mean stare.
"No. Her." Chrissy said.
"Her who?" Eddie asked as he turned to look at Chrissy.
"Her in the grey dress, cute hair, pretty smile." Chrissy added.
Eddie turned away from her looking around the bar for Chrissy's description, then he saw you. Laughing at something a curly headed girl next to you said. Eddie smiled as he saw you laughing.
"Her?" Victoria asked as she removed her gaze from you to Chrissy. Chrissy only held a finger to her mouth not sparing her a word.
Eddie was still staring at you, you're now laughing at something else another short haired girl says.
"Done." Eddie says not removing his gaze from you.
"What?" Chrissy asked.
"Done." He confirmed again, finally looking away from you and now looking at Tom.
"Done." Tom said as he nodded.
─────────────────────────
"See the guy next to the horrible guy in the green shirt that I would never even consider?" You said pointing at a guy with short curly hair, wearing a blue button up shirt with a black blazer over it.
"Very cute." Nancy said.
"Right? Good." You chuckled and squealed, making you way over to the cute stranger leaving Robin and Nancy together.
"Oh." Robin said as her and Nancy chuckled at your cute excitement.
─────────────────────────
"Okay, you're on. But here are the stakes. After I win this bet, this pitch is mine." Eddie said, looking at all three of them.
"Agreed." Chrissy added.
"Tom?" Questioned Eddie.
"Agreed." Tom said as he nodded. "You come to that party with a girl that's really in love with you, Eddie, you can make the pitch to the DeLauers."
"But, Tom, you can't-" Victoria was cut off by Tom.
"Nope. I've made up my mind." Tom said, raising his glass. "To the DeLauers."
"To the DeLauers." Eddie said, clinking his beer bottle to Tom's glass.
"Cheers" Chrissy and Victoria said, raising their own glasses towards Eddie's bottle and Tom's glass.
─────────────────────────
Nancy and Robin are laughing at how adorable you look laughing at whatever bad joke the guy next to you said.
"I was just wondering if you found..." You said talking to the cute stranger next to you making eye contact with your friends.
"She doesn't seem that interested." Robin said to Nancy who only hummed in reply.
"Exciting." You said looking at the guy in front of you.
"Yes. My wife and I love Indianapolis, especially this time of year." Oh shit, he has a wife. How did you not notice the ring on his finger? What do you do? What do you do?
"She'd been here before and I-" He'd been cut-off by a brunette wearing a pink and white dress grabbing onto his shoulder giving you the smile.
"Hi. Hi." She said, now showing her pearly whites.
You felt so awkward and wanted to leave.
"This is Y/N" The guy introduced you to his wife.
"Hi. Um." You said standing up while grabbing your martini. While his wife took the spot you were just leaning on. "You guys enjoy Indianapolis." You said slowly backing away.
"Okay." The guy said chuckling
"Thanks" The wife said straightforwardly.
"Nice meeting you." The guy said as you walked away, not even passing them a second glance.
Walking away, you glanced at your friends who were already staring at you, presumably the entire time, you mouthed "he's married" holding up your hand.
─────────────────────────
"Good luck." Tom said, patting Eddie's shoulder as he walked by him.
"Thank you, Tom." Eddie said as he left, leaving him with Chrissy and Victoria. Eddie took out a 50 and put it on the table paying for their drinks. "Now if you'll excuse me, ladies.. I have a bet to win." Eddie said, turning around and immediately looking for you.
"Ta-ta" Chrissy said as Eddie walked away.
"Now do you wanna tell me what's going on?" Victoria asked Chrissy.
"You don't recognize her?" Chrissy asked as they both stared at you.
─────────────────────────
Eddie pushed himself through the sea filled with people and began walking towards you. He smiled when he could finally reach you.
─────────────────────────
"Hi!" A man with long black curly hair walked up to you, stopping you in your tracks. He had bangs that framed his face perfectly and was wearing black jeans with a black blazer to pair it.
"Hi." You replied back with a slight smile.
"Hi." He said looking at the top of your head to your eyes. He had the biggest pair of brown eyes you'd ever seen.
You chuckled and waited for him to say something but he only chuckled back. He was obviously nervous so you tried to make it less awkward. You extended your hand with the little space that was between you both.
"Y/N L/N"
"Eddie Munson" He said as he gently took his hand in yours and shook it.
"Cute."
"Thank you." Eddie replied.
"Mm I meant your name." You said, offering him a closed smile. He looked away and smiled when he looked at you again.
"Thank you two times."
"Unattached?" You asked.
"Currently." He answered.
"Likewise."
"Surprising."
"Psycho?" You questioned.
"Rarely."
"Hmm."
"Interested?" Eddie asked.
"Perhaps." You looked away but then looked back at him.
"Hungry?"
"Starving." You said looking deep in his chocolate eyes.
"Leaving?"
"Now?" You asked.
"Mm-hmm."
"Okay."
"Okay." He replied.
"One second." You said pointing a finger and walked past him.
"I'll meet you at the door." He said loudly.
─────────────────────────
"Hey, guys." You said now standing in front of Nancy and Robin
"I think I got one."
"He was married!" Robin said.
"No, not him. It's the guy by the door. But don't look!" It was already too late, their eyes were scanning the door. "No, guys!"
Eddie smiled at your friends who were both staring right at him.
"He is really cute." Nancy said as they both looked at you again.
"I'm gonna check this one out and see if he's the keeper." You said as you handed Nancy your martini.
"Okay." Nancy replied.
"And if he is?" Robin questioned.
"Tomorrow night I'll.."
"Flip the switch" Nancy finished your sentence as she took a sip of your martini.
"I'm doing this for you." You said directly to Robin handing her your apartment keys
"Well, good luck. Be safe. Call me!" Robin said as you walked towards Eddie.
"Mm. Drama, drama, drama." Nancy said as her and Robin watched Eddie gently hold you by the waist and open the door for you.
Chrissy and Victoria, on the other side of the bar, were also watching the entire interaction and smirking at one another, clinking their glasses together knowing that you and Eddie were both secretly playing each other and how badly this was bound to end.
OMG OMG OMG IM IN LOVE WITH ELOISE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE CAN WE GET SOME MORE OF THEM?????
Tw: blood, very brief mention of gore
Coming home after a busy day, you return home to an unlocked door. Fear sinks into your heart over the uncertainty on whether you locked it this morning or not - though you clearly remember doing so. You thing to call the police, but it'd be a waste of time if you were really overthinking things. Hope whatever danger was gone, or that there was none at all, you enter your not as humble abode.
From your first step in alone, you can see the aftermath of the carnage taken place in your home. Dark splatters across the walls. Chairs and other furniture knocked all over the place. It seems that whoever was there had attempted to clean up as tape had been applied to a broken window, and the glass from it breaking had been cleaned up as well as other small fixes. There's also something else on the floor - what appears to be white feathers.
Despite logic telling you to flee, you venture further into the house. A chemical smell wafts into the air as you near the ajar bathroom door; light coming from its crack. It is then when you hear the faint sound of grunt, followed by a soft squishing. Peeking through, you see the walls of the bathroom completely drenched in red and a figure hunched before it; more feathers scattered over the ground below. Stepping back, you knock over an overturned bottle hanging over the nearby table; the sound alerting the figure to your presence. It looks as you with beady, white eyes.
You turn to fully commence your retreat; tripping over the bottle in the process and crashing to the floor. In the few seconds it takes for you to turn back over and sit up, the bathroom door bursts open and the intruder barrels out. You brace yourself for what's to come, but there's nothing - except for the gentle fall of a feather into your lap.
"Good Evening!"
You look up; nearly blinded by the sight before you. A stranger hovers over you; donned in a white coat that reached their heels and wearing the face of a cherub. They pull of the mask; sporting a broad smile almost as bright as the light around them. A ring of white surrounds both their irises and the top of their head; two large wings protruding from spine. And angel; in some since of the word. Basked in a heavenly glow, and the fruit of their crimes. They stop the blood hand saw with a laugh, lowering back to the ground.
"Pardon me! I have no idea where that silly thing came from. My name is Eloise, but you may call me Angel because that's what I am! Your loyal, faithful guardian sent from above to watch over you and help you in your darkest hour. Just like I have this evening!"
The stranger zips closer to you; grasps your hands and holding them tight.
"I've watched you from afar for some long- but now that we've met I simply can't part from your physical side. Please say you'll allow me to stay. If I have your care, I can become an even better angel. Knowing you're safe and will accept me helps me become more powerful. I can already feel myself growing stronger now, see?"
They lean their right shoulder forward, the reach of their wings growing further out. From their gaps, you can see into the bathroom; the socket of a pealed away skull staring back at you from the tub of gore. Eloise quickly spreads them out more; giggling the night away.
"As you can see, my wings have grown and inch or two. It's just the start of what we can do together. Please, please say you'll allow me to stay. I'm not sure what's happen to me if you say no."
hi! How are you? I hope you are having a great day/ night! i was wondering if you could write about Coach Harasawa, who started getting feelings for a girl (18 above) who ever so happened to be the older sister of a new student that recently joined the team. for eg: she came to pick up her brother a little yearly one day and met the coach and team. Maybe after a few days of seeing her randomly he asks her to get a few drinks??? I understand if you dont want to. Dont forget to drink water <3
Oooh, we don't get requests for the coaches very often! This should be fun! Trigger warning for age gaps, since that might not be everyone's cup of tea. Admin Neon
The shrill sound of a whistle cut through the air as the end of practice was called. Standing on the sidelines, clipboard in hand, Harasawa silently went over the notes Momoi had collected during that day. Plans over what the team could accomplish in the next few weeks were already running through his head, agendas that he would be pouring over for the next few hours to come.
It was all interrupted by the voice of one of his first years — a newer player to the second string team — calling out toward the open double doors to the gymnasium.
"Onee-san! You're here early!"
Harasawa felt his heart lurch, gripping at his throat. Never one to want to look uncomposed, he lifted the clipboard he was holding just a bit higher, hiding the bottom half of his face. It did little to cover the grimace he had.
His eyes watched as you walked into the gymnasium, a hand lifted with a single finger held to your lips in a shushing motion. He always appreciated that you never wanted to interrupt practice, always arriving quietly and standing on the sidelines when you were early. You hardly spoke and it was the air of mystery that surrounded you that originally had him interested.
But when you did speak.
"Go finish up your cleaning duties and we'll drive home together," he heard you say to your younger brother, tone calm and even.
The sound of your voice had Harasawa swallowing thickly, grimace deepening. It had been a while since just the mere sound of a woman's voice could have him so allured. As it was now, he found his heartrate increasing, pounding peskily in his ears and making it hard for him to hear you well.
That is, until you got closer.
"Harasawa-san, it's good to see you again."
The smile you gave him as you approached had him wanting to hide further behind his clipboard. Instead, he tempered the grimace that was sported on his face and exchanged it for a calm smile, placing the clipboard to his side.
"You as well, ____-san. How have you been?"
He resisted the urge to give you a compliment, trying his best to keep his gaze trained on your face instead of running along the expanse of skin your dress failed to cover. He was an adult, for Pete's sake, and a teacher at that; he would rather be caught dead than seem lecherous. But you definitely made it hard for his eyes not to wander, tucking a stray strand of hair behind your ear and exposing more of your neck.
"Oh, same as usual," you responded and he tuned back into the conversation just in time to hear you add. "My college classes have been really kicking my ass. I think I've really got to buckle down and study these next few weeks."
Harasawa fought the urge to grimace again. You'd just reminded him on why he'd yet to pursue anything with you, why guilt gnawed at him every time he thought of you, why he felt so wrong for harboring feelings.
He didn't feel right having a crush on someone over twenty years his junior.
"I suppose that means we'll be seeing less of you until exam season is done then." He tried to swallow back the bitter feeling accumulating in the back of his throat, attempting to convince himself that this was a good thing, when it reality he felt disappointed. "That's a shame."
"Actually..." There was a slight smile on your face, sly and knowing, like you held some kind of secret. It piqued his interest momentarily. "My brother told me you're a chemistry teacher here at Touou and, well, chemistry happens to be one of the classes I'm struggling in."
Harasawa fought the hitched sound in the back of his throat, but the twinkle in your eye told him that you'd heard.
With a wider grin, you continued. "I was hoping maybe someone with your knowledge might find it in him to set aside time to help me study." Turning fully toward him, you quirked a single brow upward. "Maybe over some drinks?"
Harasawa exhaled a breath he hadn't known he'd been holding. "I would love to."
I know what I've been missing. And it's you that I've been kissing, now you're not even there.
You gasped as the air rushed from your lungs. A result of your back hitting the ground forcefully.
You rolled over onto your knees. Gulping down precious air so you wouldn't pass out...or worse, pass away.
A hand is placed on your back, almost in a soothing manner. Then it's grabbing at the straps of your sports bra and yanking you into a standing position with little mercy.
"You know I hate it when you let me win."
You rolled your eyes and choked some more, "What about me fighting for my gotdamn life right now suggests I'm letting you win, Natasha?"
Natasha threw her hands up in surrender, "Hey, you're the one who wanted to spar without a mat. Besides, we're both red room trained assassins. I can tell when you're going easy on me. Or, more likely, your mind is elsewhere."
You laid flat on the ground. Spreading out like starfish on the cold concrete of the training room. The glacier freeze of the concrete a nice balm to your sweaty and bare back.
"I'm always focused." You breathed out. Closing your eyes in the process. Despite not being able to see, you could still tell Natasha had sat down next to you on the ground. Probably watching you with a critical and pitiless that stare any good best friend would.
"Normally? I'd agree. But lately, you've been out of it. If my calculations are correct, and they always are, the timeline seems to line up with whenever you see your ex."
"Meaning?" You'd roll your eyes, but again, they were closed.
"Meaning that whenever Wanda is around you get all distracted. Like you don't know what to do with yourself. Like-nevermind."
You peaked an eye open, "No. What was that last part?"
Natasha pursed her lips, "Like how you were around her when you first started dating."
You scoffed so loudly your throat burned, "Be fucking for real, Natalia. You think I'm not over her? You think I still love the woman who pried my heart out of my chest and three'd it into a nearby trashcan? Is that what you think?"
"I think...the lady doth protest too much."
Natasha only had a fraction of a second to brace herself for the side tackle into the ground she received.
"Oh, that's all it took for you to get your head in the game? Accuse you of still loving your ex?"
You yanked on Natasha's arm until she tapped out, "You said it yourself. I'm a red room trained assassin. I shouldn't let myself be compromised like that."
"You were compromised for 13 damn years. We're old now. Who cares?" You finally let Natasha go. She adjusted her shoulder with a grimace.
"I care. I-fuck. She's barely even been punished and I'm already tempted to forgive her..."
"Is that what you're doing? Punishing her?"
You shook your head slightly, "No...That's not what I meant. I'm not saying it right. You wouldn't happen to have some secret mind reading capability would you?
"Like Wanda?"
You tried to swipe at her arm but she had gotten hip to your movements.
"You know she hasn't done anything like that since what happened with Strange. Maybe if she had we wouldn't be in this mess."
Natasha furrowed her brow, "You were with each other the better part of your lives. You just have to get used to being away from each other. The divorce has only been finalized for like 4 months."
You scratched at your chin, "Yeah. Maybe, you're right."
Natasha smiled happily, "Of course I am. When am I not? Don't answer that."
You began to gather your belongings from around the training room while Natasha continued to talk in your wake.
"You know what your next order of business is?"
"No. But I have feeling you're about to tell me."
"To start dating again."
You stopped moving abruptly, "Weren't we just saying it's too soon?"
"No. We were saying that it makes sense for you to still be a little attached to Wanda. What better way to detach from her than to attach to someone else?"
You stared at your best friend deeply, "Sometimes, I wonder if you're just giving me back everything we missed when we were teens. I'm like 85% sure normal adults don't talk like this."
Natasha clapped you on the shoulder, "Oh, babe. We're not normal adults."
"Tell me about it."
"Anyway, I'll tell Sharon that she's picking you up at 8 tomorrow. You'll be in that black dress I got you for your birthday."
"Um. What the fuck. Excuse me, do I get a say in this?"
"No, not really why?"
You huffed, "What do you mean!? I'm a mother I can't just dropped everything for a date with Sharon, of all people, don't think I missed that part. What will I do with the boys? And Alexis is still being weened off of using me like a cow-"
Natasha stared at you unimpressed, "Would you rather I get Carol or Bucky?"
"No. Wanda would try to kill them. Sharon's fine." You promptly shut up and agreed at the look Natasha was giving you. The look that said in actuality this entire time she had been going easy on you and could change that fact in 2 seconds flat.
You also knew that Wanda had never particularly been fond of Carol or Bucky in regards to you. They had been the center of many an argument and subsequent makeup sex.
"I know she is. As far as the kids go, they literally have another mother."
You grimaced, "But it's not her weekend."
"Does that actually matter?"
No. It didn't. But it was the principal of the thing and Natasha wasn't getting it. You couldn't just leave your ex-wife to babysit her own kids while you went off and traipsed around with another woman. Sure, she had done it to you...while...you were...still married...on second thought...
"Tell her I'll be ready by 7:45."
Natasha smirked up something borderline evil, "There's my girl. I missed you."
"Don't get used to it."
A few seconds later Natasha's phone buzzed with a notification, "She said 'I'll be there' in all caps."
You narrowed your eyes at her. You had always known that Sharon had somewhat of an interest in you. And you had one back in some aspects. More of an interest than whatever Wanda had cooked up in her head for Carol and Bucky. But, that seemed too enthusiastic even for the situation. Unless, Natasha had starting planting seeds in the woman's head long before she should have.
"Nat...what did you do?"
"Me? I didn't do anything. Well only if you consider embellishing the truth about how you feel about her not doing anything. If you dont, then I did do something."
"Natasha!" You snatched her phone away from her to read her text threads.
"What! I was going to get you laid or die trying!"
"The latter is still an option!" You frantically read the texts and sighed. Sharon was going to think you were obsessed with her.
"But, baby sister would be so upset if you killed me? And what about my nephews and neice?" Natasha gave you a faux regretful pout. You tossed Natasha's phone back at her.
"I am not scared of Yelena and kids are resilient. They'll get over it. I'm going to give you a 5 second head start to use every single skill you have ever learned. 5..."
Natasha took off down the hall with an uncharacteristic screech.
Tumblr media
If Wanda noticed the basketball bouncing off of her head for the third time she gave no indication that she had. Instead, she just continued to stare up at the basketball hoop like she had never seen one in her entire life.
Pietro had enough. He sped over to his sister and pushed her over with a grunt of effort.
Wanda stared up at him from the ground with a raised eyebrow, "Yes?"
"What do you mean 'Yes?' We were supposed to be playing one versus one. I am winning!" He whined as if this was the worst possible outcome.
"You always win."
He stomped his Nike clad foot onto the hardwood of the court, "Not this easily. You are not even trying. You are just standing there looking sorry for yourself."
Wanda blinked few times before slowly standing up. She didn't like basketball. It was something Pietro had picked up from you, and who was she to tell two of favorite people in the world 'No' for something as inconsequential as playing or watching a game?
"Sorry, my mind's been...elsewhere." She adjusted the haphazard bun she had thrown her hair into.
"As is the norm now." Pietro rolled his eyes before dribbling the ball between Wanda's legs. He did a few more unnecessary moves before performing a layup.
There was a small chorus of feminine cheers from somewhere behind Wanda. Pietro smiled charmingly and waved his fanclub off with a smirk.
"Sorry-"
"Stop apologizing, Sister."
Wanda wanted to apologize again out of reflex, but stopped herself. Her brother had never been one for the dramatics.
"I told the boys what happened." Wanda scratched at her arm, unsure of herself. She watched as Pietro tried and failed at spinning the basketball on his finger.
"Did you also tell them I was willing to beat you up for Y/N like every great brother-in-law?"
Wanda raised an eyebrow, "Somehow, you didn't come up in conversation. Billy freaked out."
"You always knew they wouldn't have the best reactions."
"They said she misses me..." Wanda said breathily. Once again staring up at the basketball hoop.
"Oh...I-Wanda they're kids-they probably don't mean-"
"Yes. I know. I take it with a grain of salt. But what if they're right. I would like to think my sons are smart and inquisitive. Maybe they know something that even Natasha doesn't know."
Pietro grimaced, "Utenok, don't get your hopes up."
"I'm not-"
Wanda was interrupted by her phone chiming with a notification. She pulled it from her leggings with a frown.
Y/N/N: Can you watch the kids tomorrow night?
Wanda: Yes.
Wanda: Wait. Why?
Y/N/N: It's not any of your business but I have a date
"She has a date."
Pietro watched with slight fear as his sister's eyes filled with a red magic he had not seen in years.
"Okay, hey, not the end of the world. I thought you weren't getting your hopes up?"
Y/N/N: w/ sharon so don't get all Scarlet Witch murdery or whatever
Wanda's eyes returned to their normal color to look at Pietro incredulously. He knew she had gotten her hopes up as soon as she started speaking.
"She has a date. And I've got to watch our kids while her tongue is half way down some other woman's throat."
It was Pietro's turn to look at Wanda incredulously, "She said it was a date. Not a booty call. And it's with Sharon. She doesn't even like Sharon!"
Despite his efforts, and for someone who normally believed everything that left his own mouth whether true or not, even Pietro didn't look quite sure of what he had just said.
"Yay."
Pietro shot the ball from the free throw line to distract himself. He missed. He didn't bother going to collect the ball.
"Well, on the bright side. More time with the devil spawn! I will even come over to help, if you want."
Wanda shook her, "She asked me for a reason. She wouldn't be mad if you were there but she would be annoyed. I'm not risking any negative emotion if I can help it."
"Okay, fine. I want my twin sister to be as happy as much as the next twin brother, but I totally agree with her on the not going all big red monster thing."
"I haven't used my powers in years, Piet. I'll be fine."
"I believe you. I'll call to check in. Maybe, play some Xbox live with the big ones and make funny faces over facetime with the little one."
Wanda only nodded, partially listening.
"Oh, light bulb. You should go on a date soon too."
"No."
"Okay. Forget I said anything." Pietro backed away slowly. Which was probably extremely difficult for him.
"Happily."
"Back to basketball? Just one quick game of goat?"
"It's horse and you should know that by now." She snatched the basketball out of his hand that he had since retrieved.
He cheered in triumph.
