I’ve recently got into hockey fics and it’s completely taken over what little brain space I had left. Do you have any recs for a baby new to this wonderful new world? 💕💕

hello friend and welcome to hockey! i’m sure you sent this ask looking for a nice little list of links but unfortunately because of who i am as a person i’m about to give you way more information than you asked for.

before we dive in: i have a terrible memory when it comes to stuff i’ve read, and i have a pathological lack of bookmarks, and there is a LOT of hockey fic, so despite a fair bit of crowdsourcing from friends this list is obviously by no means exhaustive. there is SO much good stuff out there that isn't linked here. hockey fic to me has always felt like a very choose-your-own adventure fandom, and i want to empower you to choose your own adventure. there is so much hockey fic, there is truly something for everyone, but of course it’s all also subject to personal taste, so please read on for a little smorgasbord from which hopefully you can find some stuff you’ll love.

a very brief history of hrpf

when i say there is a lot of hockey fic, i feel like it is fun context to know that people have been posting hockey fic on the internet for more than 20 years. i have not been reading it for 20 years, so even having many years of this fandom under my belt, i am still building off the hard work of the beautiful weirdos who came before me. a lot of the pre-ao3 stuff has sadly but understandably been lost to time, but if you’re interested at all in seeing a bit of how we got to where we are now, @lovethygoalie has compiled some links here, and he has an nhl fandom history tag with some more fandom history!

hockey fic, due to the nature of the sport and the inexorable march of time, has always kind of happened in waves/cycles of certain players/pairings/teams being popular in the fandom for a little while, then fading away as new players/pairings/teams become the new hot thing. every time there’s a new wave of a popular thing, new people get sucked into the fandom, which creates this very charming-to-me phenomenon where i can often guess the ballpark of when they joined hockey fandom based on who their faves are, what teams they’re into, even what teams/players they’re NOT into, lol. (but obviously there have also always been people shipping rare pairs and medium-popular pairs and rooting for less popular teams and players, too! it’s a big fandom!)

anyway, that’s something i have found super fascinating to observe over the years and also something i wanted to touch on here to explain why there’s going to be some fic recs in here featuring players who you might never see mentioned the current hrpf zeitgeist. some of the players have retired, some of the pairings have simply waned in popularity, some of the teams are just not currently “in” in hockey fandom, but i still think it’s totally worth going back to dig into older stuff in addition to having fun with the current popular narratives and pairings, etc.

but onto the recs!

(it should go without saying, but please heed the tags/warnings on anything linked here! i’m offering these links mostly without commentary, but a lot of it is going to be mature/explicit-rated, some of it will deal with sensitive themes, some if it might have stuff you just don’t care for! not knowing your personal tastes, i tried to curate a selection of various lengths, types, tropes, pairings, teams, etc.)

Basic Rundown of my BATIM au

Ok so I’ve only been here for a little so I thought I’d give my basics for my lil au I made. Please keep in mind I’m still sorta working on it so it might change- also I’m not the best writer so sorry if this sorta sucks lol. Setting

So this au takes place in the early to mid 1920s somewhere around Brooklyn, New York I think, not sure when and where exactly yet- It’s been 6 years since some past events, (which I’ll write about later) and this is also when the Prohibition Era started, so speakeasy’s and small bootlegging joints are starting to pick up.

Characters and other stuff

In this au Bendy is one of the top bootleggers for “The Vigilante” speakeasy, a pretty successful and popular speakeasy at that, located on the edge of a forest and under the ownership of Mr. Allen. Bendy’s best friend and main partner is Alice (just because why not) and usually go together when doing pickups, robberies, etc… Their getaway driver, William Click, is also good buddies with the both of them and is the one who takes the booze back to “The Vigilante”. William is also the bartender at “The Vigilante”. There are other partners that Bendy and Alice work with but it’s usually for bigger jobs. Phill or Philip is the “Vigilante’s” personal nurse, he lives over in the forest in a decent sized house and that is where anyone seriously injured is sent over. He’s very reserved so he’s usually not in the speakeasy. Margret is Mr. Allen’s personal assistant and maid, she’s very kind and loves company and reading.

There’s a rival speakeasy called “The Chokeberry” whom’s run by Betty Francis. The two speakeasies are equally popular, but they don’t usually ever cross paths.

Now to the good guys ig, Detective Stein (yes he’s a private detective here) with fake first name Martin, his two partners Tom “Boris”, and Allison usually are the accompany him to crime scenes and other things of the sort. He’s not usually supposed to be let in since he’s a private detective- but he’s been able to work his way around that a few times. Detective Stein is pretty well known in the area as a very kind man and extraordinary when it comes to solving cases. Tom is the brute force of the trio while Allison is usually the gunner.

Detective May is a detective in the local police department and usually rivals Stein when solving any case. She usually gets very upset whenever she see’s Stein at a crime scene. Linda Howell is her personal assistant (yep she’s here too), she usually files the paperwork that May doesn’t want to handle, although she does wish to be on the scene investigating instead of lying around in an office.

Det. Stein and Linda also work together in secret to get more information on the “Ink Demon” case specifically because the both of them take quite an interest to it. The reason it’s secret is because if May found out she would definitely not be happy-

That’s basically it, again expect changes and little edits here and there because i might change or add smth to the story later :)

Another thing to note is that Bendy doesn’t know Det. Stein is Henry since he’s a cartoon now and yk changed his name

“Looking good Y/L/N…”

“Shut it, Munson.” You rolled your eyes at him as you stopped at your locker. It had been like this ever since the school year had started, ever since Eddie had failed his classes and was now in your year. Before that, you’d always found him quite fascinating, because he was someone who stood up for the people around him, who dared to be different, and didn’t conform to what everyone else thought was right and proper. You were alike in that aspect. You wore whatever you wanted, listened to the music you liked, didn’t care whether someone was popular or not. But apparently, you were the one who had more manners than he did.

Ever since that first English lesson together where he’d gotten a glimpse at your poetry and had read it out loud - not really caring who was around to hear it - you’d thought differently of him. Out of all the people at school, you thought that he’d be someone who’d appreciate your creative side, who wouldn’t make fun of you for something like that, but apparently you’d been wrong. You’d snatched your notebook from his hand again and had stuffed it in your backpack. Since then, he’d recited bits and pieces to you now and then, trying to get you to snap - at least that’s what you thought. Granted, you were kind of amazed that he remembered it, but in the end, he only remembered it to tease you.

“No, I mean it.” Eddie’s voice pulled you back to reality. His locker was only a couple down from yours, so he was leaning against it, eyes on you. “Maybe some other pants, but apart from that…” Eddie nodded, and you felt your cheeks burn at his words. This morning, it had taken you a little time to convince yourself that it was okay to wear these shorts, that you could wear them, and not let your insecurities get the better of you, and now, Eddie’s comment really made you wish you could go home and get changed.

“If you don’t like it, just look somewhere else!” Anger bubbled up inside you, and that was better than feeling insecure. You had no idea what you’d done to Eddie that he had to make fun of you like that all the time, but if you didn’t start sticking up for yourself, you knew that it would never end.

“Aww no. Not gonna happen, princess.” Eddie shrugged his shoulders, pushed himself away from the lockers to get closer to you. “Why would I do that?”

“Because you’re the one complaining!” You shut your locker louder than necessary, before you turned towards him. “If you’ll excuse me, I’m busy!” With school, and he should be as well, but you really didn’t care. You really wondered why he was such a nice guy to everyone else - well except the guys that always called him a freak - but with you, he really seemed to have a problem.

“With what? Writing another poem?” Eddie’s grin made you ball your hands to fists.

“None of your business?” you spat out, taking a deep breath to compose yourself again. “Some of us actually go to school, not like you.”

Oh that was a low blow, and you knew it, but with everything Eddie had thrown your way lately, you really didn’t care anymore.

“Maybe because some of us have a life away from school!” Eddie crossed his arms over his chest, something flickering in his eyes that you hadn’t seen before.

“Yeah, like drug dealing in the woods. What a life that is!”

“Maybe you should just come by some time and actually get something from me.” He leaned in close, baring his teeth. “Might help get that stick out your ass and help you become a little less uptight.”

Before you realised it, you’d swung your fist at him. You heard an ominous crack, but it wasn’t your own hand. Sure, it hurt, but it was worth it. Eddie on the other hand tumbled backwards and held his hands to his nose. The blood was dripping down through his hands and onto the floor. You stared in shock, because you weren’t a violent person - at least not normally, but Eddie had apparently pushed all the right buttons.

“I…” you stammered, shocked by your own behaviour, but before you could say anything else, Mr. Clarke had already found the two of you.

“What happened here?” His eyes darted from the blood on the floor to Eddie and then towards you.

“Nothing,” Eddie said through his hands. He pulled them back slightly, but the blood kept flowing.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to…” you tried to explain, then shook your head. This was definitely not your normal behaviour and Mr Clarke knew that.

“Mr Munson, you’re going to the nurse. Do you need assistance?”

“I think I’ll manage.” Eddie glared at you once more before he left, leaving a small trail of blood behind.

“I’m really sorry Mr Clarke!” you said as soon as Eddie was gone, heaving a sigh. “I don’t know what came over me.” It had been Eddie and his words, yes, but you’d never snapped like this before.

“Whatever happened here, that’s between you two.” He knew that Eddie wasn’t the bad guy a lot of people made him out to be, he was just different. But different wasn’t exactly bad, was it? He was different as well. “But I can’t just let that slip. I’ll meet you at the drama room after school for detention.” Mr Clarke didn’t let the students sit around during detention, he gave them something to do that was useful, and you would gladly take any punishment he had in store for you, because you knew how wrong your behaviour had been.

The rest of the school day went by awfully slow, especially with your guilty conscience wearing you down. You didn’t see a glimpse of Eddie, not even at lunch break.

“What’s going on with you?” Nancy asked, taking the seat opposite you. You hadn’t seen her all morning, and she saw right through you, knew when you were lost in your thoughts. Especially when you were just poking around in your meal instead of really eating something.

“I got detention… Mr Clarke wants to see me after school for that.” It was the easiest way for you to breach the subject.

“Why? What did you do to get detention?” Curiosity shone in her eyes. It was the first time you’d ever gotten detention. You weren’t a grade A student or someone who always played along the rules, but you had been lucky so far. Today, though, was something you never wanted to repeat.

“I… broke Munson’s nose.”

“You did what now?” Nancy’s eyes widened at you, then she looked towards the table where the Hellfire Club usually sat, but Eddie was nowhere to be seen. “What happened?”

“He was being his usual asshole self!”

“He isn’t an asshole.”

“He is when it comes to me apparently.” You told her just what he’d said, how he’d teased you. “And suddenly, I saw my fist flying at his face. Believe me, I was shocked as well. So… I deserve detention.”

“Sorry to say, but… yes. Didn’t know you had that in you.”

“Neither did I. And it’s not something I want to repeat.” But at least you knew that you were able to throw a punch if you really had to.

When everyone filed out of the building after school was over, you stayed behind and made your way to the drama room. Mr Clarke was already waiting for you there - and so was Eddie.

“Good, now that you’re both here, we can get started,” Mr Clarke said, opening the door to the room, turning on the lights. Eddie looked… exhausted, and the area around his nose, the inner corners of his eyes were already starting to bruise. You were really sorry about all this, but in the end, he only had himself to blame.

“You’re gonna clean up the stage. And while you’re at it, you can sort the costumes. The last time someone used them, they made a mess of everything and now, Juliet’s dress is mixed somewhere with Danny Zuko’s leather jacket. Here you have a list of all the plays. The items and costumes are listed there. There’s a lot of work waiting for you.”

Mr Clarke left you with that list and closed the door behind him. Eddie was familiar with the room, knew his way around, because they had their Hellfire Club meetings here. You hadn’t spent a lot of time here so far, so you let Eddie lead the way. While you’d expected him to just sit down somewhere and let the time pass, he surprised you by getting different boxes so that you could sort everything in there.

For a moment, you worked alongside in silence, but you could feel the tension in the air. Eddie, who was usually so talkative, didn’t say a word, and that was somehow even worse than him saying something about your clothes or your poetry.

“Eddie…” you eventually broke the silence, taking a deep breath. “About earlier… I…”

“What?” He whipped around, narrowing his eyes at you. Oh, he could be intimidating, when he wanted to, but that didn’t make you back down. It changed your answer slightly, though.

“I broke your nose, and I’m sorry for that. But what you’re doing isn’t fair!” You sighed, running a hand over your face, pushing your hair back from your face.

“Oh, what exactly am I doing that isn’t fair?”

“Are you kidding me?” Your eyes widened, before you shook your head. “Ever since the first class we had together, you’ve been getting on my nerves! I don’t know what I ever did to you that you think it’s fair to make fun of what I write or make me feel insecure in my clothes because I should’ve worn different pants.” You made air quotes with your fingers before you turned around again to take the next piece of clothing from the floor. Most of these should go in the washing machine before anyone else used them, but that was none of your business.

“Look, y/n-”

“No… really… you don’t have to explain anything to me. I thought you were a nice guy until we started having classes together. Guess my gut was just wrong about you.” You gave him a curt nod, before you hopped down from the stage and walked towards the door.

“Where do you think you’re going? We’re not finished.”

“I just want to get some water and soap so we can clean some of the stuff. If it’s alright with you, your honour?!” You looked back at him briefly, but continued walking - only to find the door locked. At first, you thought that it just wasn’t as easy to open the door as you’d thought, but no matter what you tried, it didn’t budge.

“What? You need help opening the door, princess?” Eddie called over to you, and you could hear that shiteating grin in his voice, making you roll your eyes.

“I’m perfectly capable of doing that myself. I don’t need a knight in rusty armour to help me.” One last try, but nothing happened. “But I guess we got locked in.”

You heard Eddie’s steps behind you before he appeared by your side.

“May I?” his voice was unusually soft when he asked, so you stepped aside. Eddie tried to open it by throwing his whole weight against the door. Nothing. Then he kneeled down to prod at the lock, but that didn’t help as well. “You think Mr Clarke locked us in?”

“Well… Not really. Not on purpose.” You shook your head, because he really wasn’t the person to do something like that. He was one of the nicest teachers here. “Maybe by accident.”

“Probably.” Eddie ran a hand through his hair, but pulled it back when he got stuck at the knots in his hair, heaving a frustrated sigh. “There’s no other way out. The door to the back rooms is always locked except when people are working here. And I only have my keys with me when we have our meetings.” Right now, he cursed himself for not attaching them to the keys of his van. There were only two windows in the ceiling, none in the walls, and the ceiling was too high for you to reach at all.

“Your Hellfire meetings, I know.”

“You do?” Surprised, Eddie looked at you, the hint of a smile on his lips.

“Of course. I’ve always thought your club was interesting and wanted to know more, but never got around to asking. But I know that you’re playing DnD.”

“Why did you never ask me about it?” Eddie was curious, but when you just raised your eyebrow at him, he had to take a step back. “Oh… right…” It had never been his intention to push you away or hurt you, but he’d somehow managed to do just that.

“Anyway… we can just get back to work. He’ll probably come back when our time is up.” You really didn’t want to talk about it, about what you’d thought of him before you’d gotten to talk, before he’d humiliated you. You were better off taking care of the costumes.

Eddie’s eyes were on you again and again, not really sure what to say. He’d brought that situation upon himself, but it wasn’t because he didn’t like you… quite the opposite actually. But the whole situation had spiralled out of hand, and he couldn’t really blame you for thinking that he had a problem with you.

He was impressed with how delicately you handled the costumes, because he’d seen other people treat this stuff like shit - and the stains on the clothes were proof of that. It was nice to see someone take such good care and it made him smile. He noticed that you were starting to hum to yourself. He tried to listen, tried to figure out just what you were humming there, and when he finally managed to do that, he started quietly singing along.

“I wanna know what love is, I want you to show me!”

You turned around to him when you heard his voice. He had a wonderful singing voice, but you were surprised that he’d picked up on what you were singing there.

“What?” he asked, amusement shining in his eyes as he tilted his head to the side. “I do not exclusively listen to heavy metal, you know? In fact I have an extensive knowledge of music.”

“I wasn’t-” you stopped yourself shaking your head. “I wasn’t judging, okay? I just didn’t realise that I was humming loud enough for you to hear.”

“Oh, you weren’t loud at all, my ears are trained to listen to the quiet voices. The ones nobody pays attention to with all the loud people around.”

“Oh… alright.” You didn’t know what to say to this, because it was rather sweet, and that was the picture you’d had of him… before. Right now, he wasn’t mean to you at all, wasn’t trying to get on your nerves, didn’t irritate you at all, and it was strange. Especially after you’d broken his nose. There was still some tension in the room, but it wasn’t as bad anymore. It felt different.

After another thirty minutes you were finished with the pile of clothes and most of the other stuff. There was just another small box with a few things that had to be organised. Eddie pulled a tiara out of the box and inspected it.

“Hold still,” he said, stepping up to you. Instinctively, you shrunk back.

“What is that?” Your heart skipped a beat when he stopped right in front of you. The big grin he’d had on his lips a second ago dropped. Your eyes landed on his hands and the tiara he was holding.

“I’m not gonna hurt you. That’s the last thing I want.” His words were so genuine that you held your breath, and you wanted to believe him, but with everything that had happened between you, it was hard to do that. You did believe, though, that he didn’t want to hurt you right now.

You straightened again and nodded slightly, giving him the go to do what he wanted to. Slowly and carefully, he reached out his hands to place the tiara on your head. He even arranged your hair a little bit, so it looked better.

“Just like a real princess.” He admired his work before he looked into your eyes.

“D’you think anyone will notice if I take this home with me?” You didn’t know where this question was coming from, maybe because of the way he looked at you, but you found yourself smiling and feeling at ease for the first time today. And it wasn’t because of some piece of fake jewellery on your head.

“They will if you walk out of here with the tiara on your head, but if you put it in your backpack, nobody will notice. My lips are sealed.” He made a motion to lock his lips with a key and throw it away that made you giggle.

“Anyway…” you eventually said, sitting down on the edge of the stage, letting your legs dangle down. “We’re done, and we can’t get out of here right now. We just gotta wait until we’re freed.” Because banging on the door and yelling for help wouldn’t exactly help you, since there was hardly anyone in the building, and the only one who knew where you were, was Mr Clarke. Nancy knew that you were in school, but she didn’t know where.

Eddie lowered himself to sit next to you, his thigh brushing against the bare skin of yours. If that had happened an hour earlier, you would have scooted away, but right now, it was somehow different. After all, he was the one sitting down so close to you when you were thinking that he had a problem with you.

“I didn’t want to make you feel insecure with that comment on your pants,” Eddie said, voice soft and low. You slowly turned to look at him, but Eddie was staring straight ahead. Was he blushing? “I mean… These shorts look way too good on you, and they make it hard for a guy to concentrate.” Hard on him, he meant, but he couldn’t come right out and say it. After all, he’d also seen the looks from other guys, who’d kept staring after you.

“Excuse me?” His words made your heart race and your head spin.

“Look I get that you thought that I was making fun of you.” Eddie rubbed his right hand over his face and hair, trying to smooth it down a little. “I really fucked up that first day, when I read your poem out loud.” Slowly he turned towards you, grimacing. “I was just so… enthralled, you know? ‘Cause it was really good, and I didn’t even realise I was reading out loud until someone said something about it.”

“You… what?” You tried to process what he was saying, which wasn’t exactly easy, but in a way… you could follow. Still, everything else didn’t make sense. “But why did you keep making fun of me after that? Why did you try to provoke me all the time?”

“Believe it or not, I was trying to flirt with you.” Eddie had to laugh at himself, at how stupid he’d been.

“I’ve seen you flirt with a lot of people, Munson. That wasn’t flirting.” he was confusing, SO confusing, but your heart was still beating faster at the prospect of there being some truth to his words.

“That’s different.” The shade of pink on his cheeks turned even darker. He bit his bottom lip, trying to bring his thoughts in order and figure out what to say, because he didn’t want to say anything stupid again. “That’s just meaningless flirting, but when I’m actually interested in someone… I turn into an illiterate mess as it seems and say stupid shit.”

“You really do!” you said with a laugh, before his words really sank in. Slowly, you shook your head, reaching out your hand to put it on top of his, because he’d started fiddling with the rings on his fingers. His hands stopped beneath your touch, and you felt the tension ease out of him. “Maybe next time, write me a letter or something… Then you can think about what to say first.”

You leaned against him, your arm pressed up against his, before you let your head fall onto his shoulder. Your heart was still beating a mile a minute, but it was somewhat different now, with a warm feeling that spread through your chest, your stomach, your limbs.

“I actually did write you a letter,” Eddie said, turning his hand around so that he could interlace your fingers with his, let his thumb brush along the back of your hand, happy when you didn’t pull away.

“Why didn’t I get it?”

“Because I still have it. Wrote it a couple of weeks ago and wanted to give it to you, but…” Eddie sighed. “Everytime I tried, I ended up saying something to piss you off. And if I just stuck it in your locker, you would have probably thought that it was some kind of joke. And I really didn’t want you to throw that letter in my face.”

“Mhh,” you hummed, nodding your head lightly. “Okay, I get that. ‘Cause you’re right with everything you just said.”

You weren’t exactly proud of it, but with everything that had happened, that would have been an understandable reaction.

“You know.. I was so excited to be in the same year as you, because I thought that I might finally have a reason to talk to you. That I might jump over my own shadow, but then…” You trailed off, because you both knew what had happened. And so you’d ended up here, thinking the other one didn’t like you when it was actually the opposite.

“Yeah, really sorry about that.” Eddie turned to face you, your faces just inches apart, and you felt your breath hitch. His eyes dropped to your lips before they darted back up. He disentangled his fingers from yours to raise his hand, run his fingertips along your temple and down your cheek. He wanted to lean in, wanted to kiss you, because you both had said enough right now, but the door to the drama room opened with a loud noise, and you both pulled back, looking at Mr Clarke like he’d just scared the life out of you - which he probably had.

“I am so sorry! I just instinctively locked the door behind me, like I usually do. Wheeler called my office and then I remembered that you two were in here. Really really sorry.” Mr Clarke said without pausing for a second while he walked up to you. He was oblivious to what had nearly happened between Eddie and you, and it was probably for the better. “But I see you managed to get everything done. Thank you for your help. You can go home now. And sorry again.”

“No need to be sorry, it gave us some time to talk,” Eddie grinned at your teacher before hopping down. He offered his hand to help you and you gladly took it.

“Good… That’s good! Enjoy your evening!” He got up on stage to retrieve the list he’d given you, while Eddie and you took your things and walked outside.

“So…” you said once the doors had closed behind you and you were filling your lungs with fresh air.

“So…” Eddie echoed, his eyes landing on the top of your head. “Looks like you didn’t even need to try and steal this thing. Mr Clarke was so flustered, he didn’t realise that you were wearing this.”

“Oh!” You chuckled, because it hadn’t been your intention, but now, you were here with a tiara on your head. “You’re right. But to be honest, I forgot about that as well.”

“It won’t be missed, believe me.” Eddie chuckled as well. “So… Now that we finally got these little.. Problems out of the way.” You couldn’t help the smile that was spreading on your lips now. Problems was a nice way of putting it. “I was wondering if you would like to go out with me sometime? Sometime soon, if you’re willing to be seen with me looking like that.” Eddie had to grin at his own words. His nose hurt, yes, but he understood why you’d done it, what had led up to that.

“Since I’m responsible for that,” you gestured towards his face, an apologetic look on your face. “I don’t mind at al. I’d love to go out with you, Eddie.”

“Really?”

“Yes, of course! Because I do like you as well, if you couldn’t tell by now.” You closed the gap between you and leaned up to kiss his cheek. “Saturday?”

“Saturday.” Eddie nodded, his smile widening more and more.

“Oh, and I still want to read that letter, Munson,” you said, starting to walk away, giving him another smile over your shoulder. You swayed your hips a little more than you usually did, because you remembered his comment about your shorts, so you knew where his eyes would land now that you were walking away from him. And he did, he watched your every step until you were out of sight, and he couldn’t believe how lucky he was that you’d finally managed to resolve the issues between you two. That was definitely worth the pain and the broken nose.

The Set Up by a laughably large margin. Although as I checked stats now to answer this question, I see that Bridgerton, Actually (my Love, Actually AU) is now second and it wasn’t before, quite recently actually! It seems it got a lot of holiday readership :)

Your personal fav

This is like asking me to pick a fav child! It’s difficult but I’d have to go with the professor au (take my hand, wreck my plans, that’s my man series). It came at a time where I was feeling uninspired and sort of adrift fandom-wise. Following the completion of Bridgerton, Actually, which was a behemoth and draining to write (though I loved it!), I was in the midst of taking some downtime to just… be. To consume without worrying about creating and to just reconsider. During that time, I read plenty of other things, including fic from other fandoms. I noticed tropes and things I simply hadn’t been exposed to ever/in a while, and found myself really drawn to the idea of an age gap with Kathony. Their fics feature them being near/the same age so often, in an effort to illustrate just how well matched they are. I wanted to do a sort of character study and love story when they had a significant age gap. I wanted to explore the ways Anthony might have been different if he was older, the fears of dying young (perhaps) abated but with no Kate to spur them forward. The Anthony I created in this AU was someone who had lived a bit of a life, hadn’t settled for a marriage for the sake of it, and had grown up and developed his own tastes in between teaching lectures and devoting himself to his family. I feel as though it can be popular to show Anthony devoid of taste or personality in terms of home decor or outside pursuits pre-Kate, and that simply wasn’t an option with him here. I really enjoyed developing this man with cultivated and exacting tastes. I’m getting rambly here so I’ll stop, because I could talk about this oneshot for a while. The point being—this oneshot marked a time of sort of creative freedom for me. When I started writing it, it felt nearly insane. I just wrote and wrote with no real reader expectation because I was writing a daddy kink in a fandom that really didn’t seem to have one. I was writing and entirely possessed by the story and characters and premise itself. I wrote that and nothing else for a while. I wrote it across continents and flights and subways and in my room, alone. I would text Kara about it nonstop and I’d post excerpts and just wrote it and didn’t think about it… and then it came time to post. I genuinely didn’t know how it would be received. And I need to add that it is far from the most popular Kathony fic ever, and it’s not even my most popular Kathony fic ever, but the response was nonetheless astounding. I genuinely couldn’t have expected the way it would be received and I’m so grateful for anyone who spent time with those words and maybe found themselves inspired to push boundaries in their own fic and writing.

Your fav scene

I genuinely can’t pick one. I think I’ve written too much hahaha. I’ll state a few that come to mind now;

In the Texas!Anthony AU I loved writing Anthony meeting Kate’s extended family. I loved giving her an extended family, filled with doting grandparents, noisy cousins, and all the fun hallmarks of Indian American kid life.

Nearly the entirety of the spanking oneshot follow-up to the prof au

And also the Lover inspired fic in the prof au lol

I loved the Balmoral chapter of The Set Up, especially the beginning vignette of three; Charlie/Harry, Hugo/Willie, Kate/ghosts/legacy/history. The moment she lights incense and says a prayer in this really storied, old, English castle is unbelievably significant, I think, in ways that will come to play in the fic now.

So much of the roommates fic is a real love letter to NYC. I did a reread recently and was almost surprised by it myself? I think I’ve had enough time away to be surprised by it and I was. I know those places, I feel those places. I hope the sense of self comes across as significantly for the reader as it does to me.

Writing the aftermath of the shooting scene in The West Wing AU and Kate winning the election as well were really poignant. I cried writing them and I cry rereading them. They’re almost a brilliantly rebellious ode to hope in the face of the perceived hopelessness of US politics. Regardless of whether or not a president like Kate Sharma plausible, I center my politics and general life philosophies around hope. That fic felt like hope and belief in a better world.

A fic or scene that challenged you

Plenty! The Balmoral chapter challenged me a lot until I saw Angels in America and something clicked. I actually can’t think of more right now in a really specific way but I will say anytime I felt challenged I either ignored it or wrote through it. Writing through it was always the answer and right way to tackle it.

A line of writing you’re proud of

There’s definitely a lot I’m a proud of but I am currently traveling and CBA to trawl through over 500k words to find the line I’m proud of. There’s a LOT of prose I’m really proud of though. The recent chapter of Babel where I describe Simon’s party is some of my best work, I think. Sweet Like Honey (stepfather au) has some prose I’m exceptionally proud of. As does the Obsession AU. Some descriptions of Texas in the Texas!Anthony AU are gorgeous. If you can think of anything that stood out to you, let me know.

A comment that touched you

I genuinely treasure every single comment I’ve received and I’m currently working through responding to many (if you get a months late response,,, I’m sorry). I will take this time to impress upon anyone who might be reading that leaving comments can be so encouraging and I do love hearing from readers. Fic really does feel like I’m writing directly for you guys. And so it’s great to get feedback or excited squealing because it makes it less lonely and helps me feel like I’m a part of it with you guys. I love when friends comment, I love when people who I only know through excited screeching on ao3 comment, I really love it all.

Recently, a longtime reader left a comment on my recent update of The Set Up just to thank me for writing this year and it was so moving and so lovely I teared up. It was unbelievably kind and thoughtful. That really snuck in at the end of the year for one that just took the cake for me.

Something that inspired your writing

Everything. Angels in America. Echoing Jo by saying Prince Harry’s memoir Spare. A lot of Haladriel and Darklina works and writers. Bruce Springsteen. Lysistrata. Babel by R.F. Kuang. Little Rabbit by Alyssa Songsiridej. Babylon the film. Singing in the Rain. The West Wing lol. Dachshunds (English cream) and Greyhounds. The British royals. Kafka. Religious trauma. Guts by Olivia Rodrigo (specifically bad idea, right?). Wet Dream and Chaise Lounge by Wet Leg. The people who broke my heart and the people who helped me stitch it back up. My fellow writers and friends, always.

Your proudest accomplishment

Getting over a bad depressive episode and writing slump and purposefully refocusing my attentions to: myself, why I felt compelled to write, and the people who did love me and read my writing and made that clear, as opposed to the people who didn’t.

Do you have any writing goals for next year?

To finish The Set Up. To finish some Perfect Park drabbles and revisit the west wing au for some good election year distraction. And, maybe, to take a little break as I work on original things. I am not leaving, don’t worry. I have set some professional and personal goals for myself that require more of my emotional and intellectual time/space/energy and I need to refocus some efforts there. But I’m not done and I will be back. I’m tentatively planning something quite exciting fic-wise. If it comes to fruition, I’ll tell you all in time.

hi! do you know if there’s like a centralized location for e/o fics that’s not ao3 or fanfic.net? i know for a lot of older fandoms there are other sites/pages that were used but i’m not sure how to find those lol. or maybe a good fic rec blog for older stuff? i’m looking for specific themes i guess and i’m just not finding them on ao3… if you’re able to think of anything that would be awesome!! thank you!! (and also i love your blog hehe i come for like Weekly Updates gkdjdj)

hey!! first of all i'm glad you like the blog 😭 i'm happy to provide weekly updates <3

second of all, eo fic has kind of a funny history. there used to be a site like what you're talking about (svufiction.net) but it got shut down years ago and a huge chunk of fic was lost. there's some that were saved (people had downloaded them before the site shut down) and those are scattered across like, dropboxes and other file sharing sites. i've spent the last couple of years trying to collect what i can, and with those i made this:

which is just a bookmark collection housed on ao3 that gives little blurbs of older fics and links to where you can find them. it's still a work in progress (it takes forever so i do it in spurts lmao) but i saved the fic files to my own fileshare thing so they wont mysteriously be deleted or locked (which is what happened to the old popular collection of purged fic) & i try to only bookmark fic that hasn't been uploaded anywhere else. it's not perfect but !! you might find what you're after there.

this literally doesn't matter at all but i think it's interesting so: ao3 wasn't really used for eo fic until recently, which is why a lot of the older stuff isn't there. i literally remember the svu tag in 2015ish only had something like 1,000 fics and eo was maybe the 4th most popular pairing? they had like ~300 under their tag. ao had the top spot until barba/carisi kicked off iirc, then rollisi n barson etc etc. grew in size. and now ofc it's eo bc of the renascence lmao.

anyway. there was an attempt to revive svufiction but it didn't really take off (you can find it here though). there was also a blog on here (eofanfiction) that linked to a lot of old fic but i just checked and it's gone now too 😭. here is a twitter thread with links to all known eo fileshare boxes (but keep in mind a lot of them were made recently when everyone thought ff.net was being shut down, so a lot of the fic is from there.). other than that i'd say fucking around on livejournal might be worth your while! i know that's how i found most of my favourite fics... here is a link to an eo community's fic tag that imo is a good place to start <3

1. How many works do you have on AO3?

260 (and rapidly going up, because there’s a bunch more one shots that are currently still in a multi-chapter and I’m working on posting them individually)

2. What’s your total AO3 word count?

1,528,192 😵‍💫

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Mostly BBC Sherlock and Star Wars. But I’ve also written a fic for The Hunger Games, Loki show, Grantchester, Miss Scarlet and the Duke, and Wonder Woman.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

(I’m not gonna include the fic that technically comes in 4th place because that’s the multi-chapter of one shots which will eventually be deleted completely from AO3 once all the one shots have their own post)

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

Absolutely! There was only one time in my life that I said I couldn’t routinely do that, and that was at the height of popularity for I Told You So. I was posting it on AO3 and ffnet, and also posting the links on here, and I was getting feedback on all three platforms. Which was amazing! But it meant it was a bit much to keep up with. Other than that, I feel commenters deserve a response since they’re giving us writers the thing we want most. ❤️

6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

For reylo probably I’m Ready to be Heartbroken and for sherlolly I think it’s a tie between You’re Dying and Congratulations, By The Way.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

I truly couldn’t say because I’ve written sooo many with happy endings that Idk what would be happiest 😆

8. Do you get hate on fics?

I’ve gotten the very occasional slightly rude comment over the years, but not what I’d consider hate.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I never have and I don’t plan to. It’s just not something I want to do. And besides I think there’s always more than enough of that for those who want it. If anything, what tends to be lacking is a large selection of fics without that type of content.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

Only think I’ve ever done is a Star Wars AU one shot for sherlolly called Balance.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know of, and I don’t know if I’d even want to know because that would be such a huge amount of stress and I’d probably be very limited in what I could do about it.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

I’m honored to say that I have! There might be one for I Told You So on ffnet… I can’t remember. But definitely on AO3 there’s a Russian translation of Zephyr and a Chinese translation of For Science

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Yes, indeed! I’ve co-written two fics with @thisisartbylexie. Alliance for reylo, and Half Agony, Half Hope for sherlolly. Coincidence that those are also in my top 5 kudos? I think not.

14. What’s your all time favorite ship?

That’s super hard but if for no other reason than the duration of my creating, I guess I’d have to say sherlolly.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

I don’t think I have an answer for this because the 2 WIP I have at the moment are ones I am definitely in the process of finishing.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I think dialogue and internal descriptions for the character. And I guess describing things in a way that help the reader easily hear/see the scene in their mind, since that’s a comment I’ve gotten many times over the years.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Action and mystery. Ironic, given my fandoms lol. I am always so uncomfortable describing action scenes or situations where there’s a lot going on and it’s fast paced. And I absolutely would struggle if I had to come up with a mystery plot line!

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

What an interesting question! I’m trying to think if I’ve ever even done this in a fic. 🤔 But I think it’s a great thing to include if the plot calls for it! If I did I’d ideally want to check with someone who is fluent in that language just to make sure I’m not being inaccurate.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

BBC Sherlock (for sherlolly) going on 10 years ago 🥹

20. Favorite fic you’ve ever written?

I genuinely don’t think I can choose. Sometimes I try to when I get this question, but it really is a toss up between a few fics. There’s not one particular one that stands out from the others so much that I’d call it my favorite. But some of my faves are definitely in that list of my top kudos fics that I listed in question 4.

I have so much to say about this artwork! Positive things only here! They're all together! And all wearing their tags that glow (lol). So this is going to be a rant! I love all these characters sm.

so many FEELINGS

I got so much to say about this.

Okay first of MIKAKO. SHE LOOKS AMAZING! She's smiling! SHE'S HAPPY! I was so used to official art of her with the bags so looking at this Mikako brings me so much joy. She looks a lot more mature, it's great! Love her purple colour! I also like how her hair is similar to Kokoro, I think that's fun! I just love her. And she's next to YAMATO!

OKAY YAMATO. Looking as dramatic as ever (how big is his coat??). Even his tie is dramatic! AND HIS HAND IS ON TSURUGI DNMSKSKSKDJDN. Damn that's so sweet, oml. Look at his smile, he's so happy. And his blue is a very nice shade too! It's really rare for Yamato to have artwork cause he's the spoiler character, so seeing him finally get some along side others is so nice! And now.

TSURUGI! TSURUGI! He gets to be coloured in. Good for him. AND HE'S SMILING! it's so rare for SDRA2 Tsurugi to smile. This is so nice. (Also he's surrounding by his most popular ships lol-)

NOW KINJI! Walking by Tsurugi's side! Which makes a lot of sense, as I believe it's canon that Kinji was the one who helped Kinjo the most with his morals in his school life, so seeing them next to each other is so sweet. (I'm going to say sweet a lot, aren't I?) AND LOOK HIS DESIGNNN. HIS HAIR! (Ponytail Kinji we stan- jk jk) But still! He doesn't look like an old man lol. And he's still carrying his Bible. (Which makes sense, being a priest is a 24/7 job afterall, and he looks like he's still wearing his priest clothing underneath, which a priest is required to wear all the time, at least in western countries.) The white for him makes sense! I like it a lot! He just looks so good in this.

AND YUKI "UTSURO" MAEDA! Now I'm 90% sure this is Utsuro living as Yuki if the Chapter IF ending means anything (and his lack of ahoge) WHICH IS SO IMPORTANT IN THIS PIC CAUSE LOOK! Tsurugi is in his wheelchair (an outdated wheelchair, definitely will redesign that personally) and he can definitely push himself around if he wanted but he's letting YUKI of all people push him. Like I believe Tsurugi would easily push himself, he's still very capable, but I think that fact that Yuki is pushing him shows growth in Kinjo. Like the Kinjo at the end of Chapter IF did not like Utsuro, and literally tried to shoot him down. But the fact that he must have grown, developed as a person and not have his black white view, him letting yuki, aka utsuro the man who almost got his friends killed, being right behind him shows trust in my opinion. It's also a reference to how in Canon Yuki and Tsurugi were close (before all of chapter 6 happened). I just find it so so sweet. Yuki looks so boring in design but that fits him well. Also brown oddly suits him!

Ready for Kizuna, Mitch and Kiyoka!

(I know Kizuna and Mitch make people uncomfortable so you can skip these two paragraphs)

KIZUNA! She looks like her Mum! Similar to how Mikako looks a bit like hers. But I love the fact that it seems she is arguing with Mitch or something, that so funny. I love her design here, it's so nice, and this shade of pink is really fitting! Love the stars! And the small scarf. She looks great here!

And now MITCH! He such a character oml. Mitch has always had one of my favourite designs, I found his design really shows his personality along his facial expressions (they're so funny, I love them so much). And he looks great here! His new hairstyle, while still similar to his previous and the added addition of sunglasses are so good. And his current expression says it all. The fact that he must have annoyed Kizuna in some way is so funny. Hands in pockets and looking away. And his outfit is one of my favourite in this line up, it's nice that LINJU gave him a good design here, and it's also matching Kiyoka! Meaning they probably work together in the same division! The Blue obviously suits him well here.

KIYOKA MAKIIIII! LOOK AT HERRR!!! THE SHORT HAIRRRR. She look so good in shirt hair. Honestly when I first saw this last year it took me a while to figure out that this was Kiyoka haha. I really didn't expect the haircut! It looks so good on her! And I have a lot to say! Firstly! The way she holds her gun! She looks happy, content and confident! Which probably means that after Chapter IF she learn to appreciate her talent as it helped her friends! DJJSKSKK. Super sweet! And the faded red! Not the colour I expect for her but looks really really good! She looks so good!

Okay it's the trio and I have so much to say!

Well actually first off, not much about Teruya, as I want to talk about him more later. But an interesting detail is that Haruhiko's goggles are cut off, or simply not there. Which I mean, makes sense, in Chapter IF he has no reason to wear them here. (But it's sad his dad is still dead here). But yeah, I going to talk more about him later.

And now HARUHIKO! Goodness his design is so good here. Definitely my favourite redesign here. His new goggles, his scarf, fingerless gloves, everything he is wearing! It's really unique, and I believe it implies his talent is important to the foundation here. Which I'll go on later when talking about other stuff. His arm around Teruya, dksmksndkd. And the yellow is great!

IT'S SATSUKI TIME! She looks adorable here! She so happy here! Her hair is really fitting, it looks bouncy. Her design is simple but her personality in her pose makes her stand out! She and Haruhiko seem to be saying something to Teruya together. Which is sweet! Also! I only noticed recently but Satsuki and Haruhiko are wearing rings! They're married! (Which means they're probably mid to late-20s, cause getting married earlier then that is a bit early for most people, but then again, I can see them doing that. But that also means that Traffic Light Group are probably mid 20s. (Meaning that it's been almost a decade since their killing game, which lines up with the Chap 6.5 timeline)). But hey, a win for Haruhiko and Satsuki shippers (teruhiko Saddness lol). But ay, still sweet! The pink is lovely! Very soft!

They're all together! So sweet! I love this! Snksndksndnd

OKAY first off AYAME AND AKANE DKDNKSDNKD

But first Ayame!

Her design is sooo good here too! Her hair in a ponytail is a so expressive and a nice change! She is also wearing a scarf! So many scarves here lol. She looks so sweet here! The red is brilliant too! She looks so good here! She looks so happy talking about whatever she's talking about! So good! And she's a next to Akane djjskdnsksm. I also think her arm is behind her head, making her look really relax, and it's nice to see her like that!

Akaneeeeee! I oddly really like her maid like design here. It oddly looks more mature, maybe because it's just apron! And I love her hair, with it tied down at the very end. She looks really content here. It's so sweet. Like she's really happy for once! She just looks so calm, and looks like she belongs. Also her cream (?) Colour is so nice, reminds me of Sora slightly. A very nice colour for her! I love all her bows too! And she's not only next to Ayame but next to Rei! (Who she got like, stabbed for in canon, and I know that doesn't happen in IF, it's still a nice reference).

Now Rei! Not much to say! But she's happy and smiling! Ayyyyy! I really loved Rei redesign, always have, it shows professionalism while still a lot of personality. Goodness she looks great! But not much else to say!

But I have a lot to say about THEM! Chapter 3 victims my beloved!

KANATA! She didn't get a growth spurt like Teruya haha, she's still so smolll. But she grew out her hair! I like how hair shows change here. She looks so happy, talking about whatever and seems so happy while doing so! The cyan looks so good for her too! She deserves so much. Her coat looks good too! And she's next to KAKERU!

Finally Kakeru! Look at him! He's blushing! He's happy! His hair looks great haha. I like how he's helping my carrying who knows what. But he looks so much more like a lawyer here haha. The black obviously suits him well. And I oddly like his glasses a lot. He looks so good here too! Him and Kanata together is so sweet.

Goodness this all so good. I love all of this

And now some extra notes!

So something interesting is how there is definitely a difference in jobs,

Mitch, Kiyoka, Haruhiko and Ayame seem to have more hands on jobs, with their Kisaragi emblem sewed on their clothing. The first two seem to be similar to Ryutaro and Keisuke, Haruhiko is probably with planes, and not too sure about Ayame (I'm going to need to find that list of their occupations in Chapter IF).

Everyone else has a tag instead, and implied more paper work. Lol.

Okay and now. I want to talk about the two (imo) saddest things about this piece. First the second saddest thing.

Now there are multiple things sad about this, first off is NOOOO TERUYAAAA WHY ARE YOU COLOURED NOOOO WHYYY, WHYYY DID YOU GOO SKSJDJWKSNKKSKSKS, NOOOOO.

Damn his character always brings me on the verge of tears. But yeah, he's coloured green, cause we know what happens in Sdra2 (crys) and yeah.

But a detail that struck me odd is that out of everyone in this lineup (besides Kizuna and Mitch who are arguing) he's the only one not smiling. Now he looks suprise and all but honestly I would have expected him to be smiling alongside Haruhiko and Satsuki. But he isn't. He looks, not really surprised but almost confused. Like what just happened was unexpected, and not like oh wow that surprised me but like what is going on/this isn't meant to be happening. Which I think is meant to reference that he had only died recently. Like he even has a sweat drop! Which means a lot in this sort of artstyle. Teruya it's okay, you are with your friends now. Like this is so sad to me. Maybe not to you all but it's sad to me

Professor Obi-Wan Kenobi has a problem. A tall, messy-haired, frustratingly brilliant problem. It's hard to teach Ancient Greek when Anakin Skywalker is making bedroom eyes at you from the back of the room, but somehow he has to manage. Anakin is a student, off limits, and Obi-Wan would never cross that line. Luckily, being a student comes with a countdown to an inevitable graduation.

• Soulbound (12k)

The first place they met was on World of Warcraft, where Anakin is a tank who pulls recklessly and Obi-Wan is his long-suffering healer. The second place they met was at a random bar on a snowy Tuesday night in December.

• Apartment Story (10k)

It's late at night on Coruscant, midway through the Clone Wars. Obi-Wan is not at the Temple, not on his ship, and not answering his coms. Cody is at a loss, and so Anakin is dispatched to find him—despite his resentment at Obi-Wan's deception during the recent Hardeen mission. He finds Obi-Wan in a bar on the lower levels, and he's a little drunk, very depressed, and altogether confused by Anakin's presence. After all, Anakin had just moved out of their shared apartment. Why would he be seeking Obi-Wan out? Or, the boys finally communicate, and realize a few things about how their relationship has changed during the war.

→ Note, Lex Talionis isn’t there because I haven’t been in the right reading mindset to go for it, but I wish I was because it sounds like the coolest thing in the world. I’m also a fan of Temporary like Achilles, Snap, Crackle, Pop, Prompted | Obikin, and I think Symposium altered something in me forever. He also writes excellent metas on tumblr, the ones he wrote for the Kenobi show live rent free in my head!

→ Both are ongoing and absolute pearls, if you’re into domestic discipline (and Anakin getting spanked in general haha) Rex is the author you’re looking for. She also has lots of really interesting posts, mostly in answer to really good asks, up on her tumblr, and they greatly enhance the reading experience of both series in my humble opinion. They’re also just plain fun :’) (also Rex updated as I was polishing off the list like!! what a good timing!!)

→ Also a big fan of as holy and enchanted, Aggressive Negotiations, Art Imitates Life and Learn Your Place, Young One! Nyanakin has my heart now and forever that's why Out of the Bag is one of the highlighted fics haha

This feels like a new, wild level of unacceptable, but he can’t help but remember how Anakin leaned into his touch and his kisses and his words of praise. If anyone is going to coach Anakin through his sexual awakening, why shouldn’t it be Obi-Wan? (This is what Obi-Wan thinks this story is about.) (It's not.)

→ Also a big fan of you be the tightrope, baby i’ll be the safety net, what tomorrow may bring, what tomorrow may carry away, be careful not to choke on your admirations, lost to a sea of troubles, what’s mine is yours is ours, tongue-tie me so tightly i cannot tell you the truth, almost could have been strangers again, how to say someone’s name like it’s just a string of letters, the Obikin Fairytal Tropes series – okay that's just everything she's written and a long list of other fics without summary but I can't make the post longer and they are GOOD. If the pretty bird & mobi-wan series sounds like it would be your thing, I also heavily encourage you to check it out, it's not my thing but it seems incredible. Kit also has a ton of AUs on her tumblr, which are mostly text posts with a ficlet thrown in if she was inspired, and sometimes sprout their own fic on AO3, toss overboard what is too heavy to carry being the latest (and oh my god I’ve been in love with the couple councelling AU since the beginning I can’t describe how I felt when she uploaded that one to AO3!!)

When the only Jedi sect in all of Kalevala falls to a Sith attack, crèchemaster Obi-Wan Kenobi flees with the six younglings he has taken under his wing. He is prepared to do anything to protect them, even if it means begging for shelter at the doorstep of a Mandalorian clan or giving himself to a warrior in any way an Omega might. That being said, he didn’t expect for his hand to be ceremoniously asked in marriage. Least of all by Anakin Skywalker Kryze, youngest of the three Alphas in line for the throne. or: pre-republic era; omega jedi obi-wan and alpha mandalorian anakin get together after a marriage of convenience, in true idiots-to-lovers style, with a sweet little twist

Anakin is used to sinking into the comfort of Obi-Wan’s arms when he is in tears. Obi-Wan is used to offering it. Neither of them realizes the moment when habit tips into heat-haze, but their acceptance for each other is boundless all the same. (or: five times anakin gets aroused by accident when he’s crying and being comforted by obi-wan… and one time obi-wan does)

Anakin thinks Obi-Wan doesn’t love. Obi-Wan thinks he shouldn’t love. Somehow, all while believing their respective feelings are unrequited, they still manage to behave like the most married couple ever.

→ Obviously I love all of these, but I have to talk about The Cygnets at Sundown, because I think this fic changed something in me a little bit. Not only did Shatou expand on Mandalorian culture and draw absolutely wonderful illustrations to go fic his fic, but he wrote and composed three different songs for it. Let me repeat that, you can actually go listen to recordings of them singing the songs they composed and wrote the lyrics to that they put in their fics. Like it’s an excellent fic and it made me cry at the end but I cannot explain with words how I felt when I realised he’d put up links for people to go listen to the songs the characters sing. I think I’m a little in love with this fic and honestly who would blame me. (and in a completely direction, Eggs and Milk is one of the only fics I’ve found that has good lactation without mpreg, which is harder to find than you’d think but also hotter than you might imagine, and there’s oviposition on top! what a blessing)

The measure of footsteps is familiar—and right on schedule. Obi-Wan has been waiting with more anticipation than is seemly, perhaps, but there’s a certain satisfaction that comes of these encounters. He finds himself avidly curious, in the days and weeks that stretch between, to discover what Vader will say or do next time. Or, Vader keeps capturing Obi-Wan during the Wars. Obi-Wan keeps escaping. It's kind of a thing.

Vader brushes cool, mechno fingers along the curve of one cheek, faintly red above his beard, and scowls. He feels eyes catching briefly on the upturn of Obi-Wan’s face before sidling away, feels the guarded interest of more than one slipping through the cloud of embarrassment and chagrin. He files the names of those last away in the darkness of his mind to deal with later. Or, Obi-Wan gives Vader a blowjob while they're at a public event.

In the end, Obi-Wan thought as he watched Vader strain to obey, this was his. No matter who Vader served outside this bedroom, no matter who he called Master in Obi-Wan’s place, here, he needed something only Obi-Wan could give. Or, Obi-Wan fucks Vader back to the Light.

Obi-Wan’s shoulders were already red. The back of his neck looked almost the same shade as Dooku’s saber, and the color stretched down his arms and back. Anakin blurted, “You’re burning.” Obi-Wan twisted to look at him, raising an eyebrow. “I’d noticed,” he said, glancing down and shrugging. “Believe me. There’s nothing I can do about it.” OR, how to improve your relationship through the use of oils and salves.

Everything interesting in the desert happened at night, at least in Anakin’s experience. The temperatures dropped with the setting of the suns and the darkness crept in, covering acts that would be revealed under Tatooine’s harsh daylight. Considering what people were willing to do in the light, the night hours were a dangerous time to be about. Anakin was one of the many factors that made them so. (AU where Qui-Gon never took Anakin off of Tatooine) OR, the one where Anakin gets a ready-made family dropped on him and handles the situation far better than anticipated.

→ as someone with skin problems seeing my favourite little guys taking care of each other’s skins was a specific kind of wonderful. I also liked Cascade Overload!

“Do you think you’ll take another padawan?” she asks him eventually, not sure why it makes her nervous. But he only grins at her, bumping his shoulder against hers. “Not for a long time, Snips - I’ll let Obi-Wan go next.” Obi-Wan, Anakin, and the legacy they create together.

• ‘SECRET JEDI LOVE AFFAIR’ (3 chapters, 7k)

They zoom in to where General Kenobi’s eyes are fixed on General Skywalker’s ass. Again. A caption pops up: ‘FURTHER PROOF OF THE SECRET JEDI LOVE AFFAIR.’ In an effort to garner support for the men fighting the Republic's war, the clones are given permission to document their lives as they protect the galaxy alongside their Jedi generals. It goes about as well as can be expected.

→ also a fan of yesterday’s jam and all the better to love you with. When I first read No need to say goodbye I cried so hard, let me tell you, sometimes I think about rereading it because it’s so damn good but I think no, I’m not in the mood to cry right now, I’ll leave it for a good session of cathartic crying later (this is a compliment!). All the better to love you with is also exactly the kind of omegaverse you love to see, because why introduce a new gender system if no one’s going to have fun with it anyway?

Obi-Wan has a secret nemesis: Qui-Gon’s padawan Skywalker gets on his last nerve. Padawan Skywalker has a secret ideal of what it is to be a Jedi: Knight Kenobi. When they actually get a chance to hang out, one of them will change his mind.

Anakin's queenwolf knows who she wants to spend her first heat with. Obi-Wan doubts that she has the best idea for everyone concerned.

→ Also a little in love with The letter but not the spirit and Deepens like a coastal shelf. Note that all of those (except All his Schrödinger’s cats) survive might not be your taste, since they more or less straddle the line with underage (and in the case of Deepens like a coastal shelf just completely go over it), it depends on the fic and your own limits. They’re tagged appropriately, make your own choices and all. I personally cannot get enough of the way they write Obi-Wan and sex scenes, and I love how they pick their titles.

Now onto individual fics I really like, which doesn’t mean I don’t like the rest of the authors’ fics, just that in those cases I either didn’t read almost everything else they wrote or managed to pick a favourite.

Anakin was enamored by the very concept of lovers as two halves of the same soul, fitting together perfectly in almost every way imaginable as if they were made for one another. And while Anakin wanted almost more than anything else to know who that person was, he couldn’t fathom it being anyone but Obi-Wan.

Anakin knows, not that anyone ever asks him, that Obi-Wan's approach works just fine...even if sometimes he wishes his Master would put a hand or two on him sometimes. At least that's what he thought he wanted, until an undercover mission finds him saying something he shouldn't to someone he shouldn't, and that someone demands Obi-Wan punish him or else see months of work ruined.

There’s a long moment of silence, broken only by Anakin saying, voice still hoarse but distinctively Obi-Wan-esque, “What in sithhells is going on?” – Or, in which Anakin touches a dangerous force object and now him and Obi-Wan are trapped in each other’s bodies until something, or someone, can find a solution to their predicament. But before they can, they're both going to make some eye-opening discoveries about the other.

Or it would have been, if Obi-Wan had ever thought to consider the possibility, which he hadn’t, because the possibility was patently insane. This, he had learned (over and over and over again, for as long as Anakin had been around), was little defense against whatever it was Anakin had done this time, as Anakin’s conception of what was sane and what wasn’t was rather far outside what was normal.

→ The one and only, the first Obikin fic I can remember reading (or at least the first one I downloaded to my phone) Beloved, very good memories, gave me a taste for Anakin with all sorts of fun kinks. Funfact, it took me a good year (that is to say I realised like, yesterday) what the [IASIP music] in the title meant :’) I thought it was the author’s way of sorting their fics or something

Anakin and Padmé's mornings both become much more exciting when they each wake up to pairs of horrible geese hell-bent on leading them to their soulmates. Obi Wan's already been kidnapped for a couple of days, so two geese manifesting in his cell isn't as big a deal.
