The Top/Bottom Thing

Okay, I need to vent about something. Because it really annoys me. You do not need to agree with me, but this is my blog, so I can vent about it all I want.

I hate how a lot of fandom stuff clearly assigns queer ships the "top/bottom" dynamic. I hate it so much. Because for the most part, it just tends to enforce heteronormative standards. Especially when we see who gets to be the top and who gets to be the bottom. Because, spoileralert, most of the time this is completely and utterly based on who is the more feminine and the more masculine between the characters.

Let's put a pin in that, because I want to talk about something else first.

*clears throat* You folks are aware that a lot of queer people switch positions, right? Sure, there are some that prefer one thing over the other, but in general a lot of queer relationships do not have "the top" and "the bottom". This is true for both gay and lesbian relationships. (And while we are on it: Some gay men do not like anal sex. I know, shocking, right?)

The reason this is so popular with fan related stuff (and also non-fandom female oriented mlm original fiction), really is that it kinda enforces heteronormative relationship dynamics.

A lot of queer people in same-sex relationships - especially of the millennia and older generations - know the question of: "But who in your relationship is the man and who is the woman?" Because straight people cannot imagine a relationship in which the partners are eye to eye.

In earlier queer anime/manga fandom we still had the idea of uke and seme. In which the uke was the girl in every way imaginable. It often looked something like this:

You had the big, masculine seme, and the soft, feminine, petit uke. In some manga it went so far, that the uke was even drawn like a girl. They tended to be like girls - just without breasts. It was also one of the main reasons for a lot of gay men in Japan very much despising yaoi, keeping very much with their own gay manga genre, bara.

Now, admittedly by now this has mellowed out a lot in yaoi manga. Newer yaois tend to have way less physical difference between the uke and the seme. While often we still have the scenario that the seme is more powerful and influencial, at least the uke is no longer "a girl".

Still, this dynamic then also got duplicated on fanfictions at the time. Basically fandom usually decided (especially with anime fandoms) that within a gay ship one was the uke and one was the seme. So in the fanfictions that followed, any canon characterisation would be ignored in favor of making the seme toxic masculine and the uke a little damsel in distress, who would cry a lot.

Now, most of fandom has grown out of this phase (thank God), and uke and seme has mostly been replaced by the idea of top and bottom, which usually tends to be way less extreme in the depiction. But... the general issue is still there, right?

Because... people still kinda subconsciously enforce the idea of a heteronormative relationship with queer ships.

For those who usually do not engage with this, quickly let me explain: The idea of Top and Bottom is about, who is the "giving" and who is the "receiving" part within a relationship. The bottom is the one, who gets penetrated, the top is the one who penetrates, to overly simplify this. But also generally it also kinda means, that the "top" tends in most stories be the one who holds the control or more control within the sexual scene. This is especially a big thing with male on male smut, where a lot of stories male it clear that one of the two characters in anal sex is the one who gets fucked, with the other one doing the fucking.

And most of the time this is very much based on who of the ship is the more outwardly masculine and who is more feminine. And yes, this even holds true for sapphic ships. Let me talk about some of my own ships, so you can see what I mean, alright?

Alucard/Trevor (Castlevania) is probably the least strong on this one. While a lot of fanwork has Alucard as the "bottom" - you know, the long haired, rather androgynous twink - his femininity clearly is a bit cancelled out by being half-vampire. So there is in fact a lot of stuff where he gets to be "the top". But still, there is a definitive tendency to have him as the bottom.

Hector/Isaac (Castlevania) is one, where I literally have never once seen a fic with Hector topping. Admittedly, I can understand it with them in so far, that Hector is not only feminine, but also clearly shown to be submissive within the show. So both things kinda go into one another. But, you know... While I have him be the submissive one and passive one more often, I do make a point of switching it around a bit. (And it should be noted: I have not found a single fic outside of my own, that even adress the fact that Isaac might actually not want to do anal sex, because the Qur'an is very clear on the topic of it being a taboo.)

Mizrak/Olrox (Castlevania: Nocturne) to me is probably the most offensive one in regards of Castlevania gay ships. Because while still fairly new, I only so far have seen Olrox as the bottom. Because of course the more feminine one, with a very masculine partner, has to be the bottom. *eye roll* Which in their case does so clearly just not even have any other possible explanation rather than "the masculine and the feminine". I doubly hate this, because this does play into a lot of racist ideas about indigenous men, but I will not go into that now. Just... why?

Joe/Cherry Blossom (SK8) is another one, were one partner is very masculine and one is very feminine in their appearance. And of course... this translates to like 90% of the fandom having Joe top and Cherry bottom. *sighs* I can't even...

Viktor/Jayce (Arcane) are a bit different, as neither of them is very feminine. Buuuut of course Jayce is still the more masculine between the two of them, so... yeah, you know it.

And again, this is even true for sapphic ships. I had people being very upset at me writing CaitVi a little kinky with a submissive Vi and a dominant Caitlyn. Because again, Caitlyn is more feminine, Vi more musculine. So oft course people want the relationship dynamic to reflect this...

And that... is exactly my point.

See, when I brought this up in fandom spaces, the answers I got were like: "Well, I just think that is their sexual preference." But of course not a single person could answer me, why that was. Why they think the more feminine (within a western understanding of this, mind you) would be the one who would prefer bottoming.

And that is without - again - going into the fact that not all gay people will have or enjoy anal sex and frankly, I find it unimaginative, how in so much gay fiction, anal sex gets depicted as the end-all-be-all.

I mean, I will openly admit that, yes, this does not only hold true for women writing gay fiction. Because there is a lot of historical baggage in this regard within the gay community itself. Because, yes, this was something explicitly forbidden by a lot of religion. Because, yes, this also is the one way (well, with the exception of 69) for gay man to have sex that can be pleasurable for both at the same time. And because, yes, there is a whole lot of just stuff of it being condemned and... It is a whole big thing.

But I just... I would just wish for it to be depicted with a bit more nuance. And for it to stop enforcing heteronormative genderroles. Because... god damn it. I am so sick of all of that.

- this is my take on things. And my opinion. It’s not canon (kinda in my head) but don’t come after me! And if you have other ideas I would love to hear them!!

Lets start.

Tenya Iida

He is a big enjoyed of candy crush and you can’t tell me anything else against that. I don’t see him having games on his computer or almost anything, so he plays mostly on his phone. I have a feeling he actually can’t stop and he is so embarrassed over it. Come on? Man is waiting for the new levels every time.

Tetris? A thing for his brain to work and does it kinda fast. He has high scores. MAN IS A BEAST- and when he fails he will get so frustrated and get mad….someone take his phone away please.

Super Mario is a childhood game but he still has it on something. Like a old nintendo, old ds and stuff. He plays it sometimes. And the only thing I see him having new gaming devices wise is a switch, and only has Mario games and plays it only each few mounts.

Izuku Midoriya

Planet zoo I can’t really explain but it’s just feels so right. I think he’s a pro at it. I really wish i could explain why I feel this way….Please tell me you see it to?

Fortnite he only plays with his friends but it’s so often. He does love the game a lot, even has a skin of himself in the game. And he has merch. He just loves to laugh with his friends and vibe. Has never raged quit.

Minecraft….Do I have to explain it? He’s wholesome, the games wholesome. It’s a match. Deku has so many hours it probably scares people. He’s obsessed!!! Mention you found diamonds and he’ll flip.

Rikido Sato

Unraveled is a childhood favorite of mine and I see him playing it for the same reasons. It’s chill but makes the brain think. I think he would love it.

Cooking simulators. This is not just for the meme. Tell me why I think he would rage so much to this because of the controls being whack. If he wasn’t a hero he would own his own restaurant/bakery.

Apex legends- HAVE NO IDEA WHY I THINK THIS. I know nothing about this game. I think he would play a shooter, and he gives apex vibes.

Tsuyu Asui

She’s plays game for chill vibes and vibes only.

Animal crossing?! One of the best games ever. She loves to decorate her island and go villager hunting. Has the best island out of the whole class. (Has many frog villagers)

Minecraft, 100# loves to vibe to the music. She plays with izu a lot too, the whole group. And she’s like the camp mom? Makes sure things are organized and she builds a whole ass city.

Stardew valley….One of the best games ever made again. Farmer Tsu!! She is the person who takes her time and doesn’t stress about anything, she knows everything without the wiki- but she could speed run the whole game so fast.

Eijiro Kirishima

Fortnite bro. Spends so much time on there is so embarrassing. The type of friend to beg his friends to play with him when the say no. He is that guy who doesn’t get up from his seat for hours to play this damn game. Headset, talking to everyone. Random people? He’s befriending them all.

Medieval dynasty is a good game. I see him enjoying building a city up from nothing, he is the type of guy I see. It’s relaxing.

Animal crossing fan and he has no shame. He loves this game so much. Decorates his island. Be proud of him even tho it sucks, but he’s so proud of himself (I relate) and keeps a streak of checking in every day.

Denki Kaminari

HE HAS ALL THE DAMN GAMES!! He talks shit every match. Has fought a child and made them cry (then got his ass handed to him) and I stand by this. He is good at the game, but also then sucks so bad.

Fortnite, yes other shooters because I believe he loves them. But likes to play with the boyz mostly, kiris main bestie in this game because they both are annoying the others.

Minecraft…yes this is getting used a lot but it’s a amazing game. Turns his music down because he’s either falling asleep or crying for questioning his existence. MINING!! He spends so much time mining it’s like he never goes to the surface.

I’m back with actual thoughts. They’re not coherent, more rambling, but they are thoughts, so here you go!

I’ve been in the fob fandom for a while. I got into them during the hiatus, was on the very outside of fandom during srr, and joined during abap. I kinda floated in and out. This is all to say I’ve seen p2’s post hiatus interactions in various forms for years. I’ve seen people’s different theories, from they are romantically involved, to best buds, to that they are just coworkers.

maybe it’s just recency bias, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen them so close or so fond of each other. They just seem to be so… loving towards each other??? Like it’s the french cabbage comment night every night. “I’ve been reduced to the words you’ve chosen for me” who says that??? “You look especially good tonight” “play us a song, love”. and patrick doesn’t roll his eyes, or make a face. what the fuck??? Like, whatever you want to theorize their relationship is, there’s so much love there.

i know not what you speak of - this is perfectly coherent to me!

first off, i don't think it's recency bias at all as i've been defining SMFS as the era where they stopped giving a fuck. i'd argue that not only p2, but also fob as a whole, are the most comfortable and having the most fun than any other time in their career. their collective presence now is SO at ease and joyful - it's truly been beautiful to witness.

more specifically to p2, i think covid really challenged them and had them come to terms with what really matters in life. there has been tangible love between them since the very beginning, but i think they are less concerned about public opinion now and more willing to show that love more explicitly.

the media circus of the 00s' - which was even more cruel and invasive than it is now (IMO) - nearly ripped fob, and p2, apart. looking at sources from back then can give you a picture of that. let me tell you, though - living through it? it was...rough to witness. i'd be shocked if any fan who was paying attention then was SURPRISED by the hiatus.

sad, yes. but surprised? no.

post-h fob was A LOT more careful with their boundaries - they were still themselves, but they were definitely more reserved, especially in how they interacted with each other. p2 were especially more careful and there was definitely a particular...narrative being pushed. they loosened up over time, but. there was a VIBE...

i think the pandemic really did punt them into - fuck it, why don't we just be/do what we want? why are we keeping ourselves in this box? as pete has said many times recently - life is short, so do everything.

(i'd also....be very curious about their label change. you don't just switch labels for funsies. just sayin.)

at the same time, i don't think that trauma from the 00s will ever leave them, so, at the end of the day, they WILL opt to be more private than not, and i don't think we ever will know the true depth of their relationship.

i will end by saying that i REALLY struggle with the "just coworkers/patrick just puts up with pete/patrick is annoyed by pete/patrick,joe,andy put up with pete for the paycheck/etc." narratives that i see float around. i could go on a whole rant on that alone, but i'll keep it focused to this -

if p2 don't actually have the deep relationship they say they do, why do they keep saying it? why is the term "soulmate" being used in 2024? why are they still pushing the narrative about this if it isn't true? they could've left that in the dust YEARS ago. their fame does NOT count on that. fans are often blinded by the fact that this is a HUGE band and the majority of people who make them successful know NOTHING about their band dynamics. they don't need to engage in this "fan service" to be successful at this point, and it's certainly nothing p2 would agree to now after what they went through pre-h.

What Type Of Partner Would The Fruit Basket Zodiacs Be Pt 1

Day One of The Underrated And The Unwritten

Notes: eek i'm so excited to write for this fandom! Tbh i was kind of very slightly sad about everyone ending up with someone at the end because that meant it was awkward to ship characters or write about them with someone else but eh.

Warnings: this is both sfw and nsfw content! so like how would they be as a partner overall. mdni

Characters involved: Yuki Soma, Kyo Soma, Hatsuharu Soma, Momiji Soma

Gender-neutral reader, you/yours

Yuki Soma

Yuki is a very gentle lover and partner.

He's pretty conscious about his real personality can come off as cold or aloof which is why he'd probably force himself to be a little outgoing near the start to get to know you.

You'd have to start off as friends first and it would take a little getting used to but once he understands his emotions for you Yuki's quick to accept them and confess.

A relationship with Yuki can be full of excitement. He wants to try new things and discover different situations with you.

Yuki can easily associate happiness with someone who makes him feel comfortable which is why he tends to be around you when he's sad because he thinks your mere presence makes things better.

When it comes to being more intimate Yuki can take very long to get comfortable that way. He's so used to associating physical touch with violence that it really takes time for him to get used to your physical affection.

Definitely would be a bottom at the start, but once he gets used to it Yuki can be quite the switch.

He isn't into BDSM at all because of his traumatic childhood but if there's certain things you're into that you'd want to try you can always ask and have a talk.

He loves cuddling in bed for aftercare and will probably let you fall asleep in his arms (and then clean you up while you're sleeping because he's just that cute).

Communication is key when it comes to being with a guy like Yuki, whether that be in the bedroom or outside it, which is why you need to learn to be vocal about your emotions and thoughts because he can be a little oblivious at times.

Kyo Soma

Tsundere. Need I say more?

Getting a confession out of Kyo Soma is possibly the most impossible thing ever. Like seriously, you need to be committed for a longgg time before he makes a move and even then you'll probably have to force a confession out of him.

He's the kind of partner who would act all annoyed whenever you're affectionate but then also do things like holding your hand when the street's too crowded or texting you to make sure you got home safe (but he completely denies that's why he sent you a text).

He also gives off old dad energy please he'll have the most awful dad jokes and hold his phone like a forty-year-old father.

Very protective. Will literally yowl at people who even look at you threateningly. And no I don't mean that 'manly' little growl thing men do in books, I mean literally yowling like a cat who wasn't fed.

This ranges from sneers to eyerolls plus scoffs to actual yowls. He will not be afraid to throw hands if he sees the other person is making you uncomfortable.

Kyo is honestly so cute when it comes to being intimate. He gets all flustered and you'll probably have to take the lead the first time. However, he might switch it up and take control halfway.

Really just depends on how comfortable and into it he is. Will hesitate a lot and ask you questions constantly.

Also the king of aftercare like literally doesn't let you do anything the rest of the day.

Kyo can be hard to keep up with as a partner because of his tendency to reject his emotions, but if you're someone who likes teasing their partner then he's basically perfect for you.

Just give him time to you, but don't be surprised if he's unwilling to leave once he has experienced your affection.

Hatsuharu Soma

Softie.

Haru is the type of partner who's obsessed with you but doesn't show it that much. It's not that he's trying to hide it but just that he's not very open affectionately.

He's fine with PDA and likes showing you off and making it clear that you're his but he can also be a little...slow when it comes to catching on.

This means that if you're ever jealous then he'll take a while to notice and then blatantly point it out. If you're angry/upset with him he won't understand it and will force you to talk to him because he refuses to read between the lines.

But he's such a sweetheart. He's always so comforting and will constantly check up on you, sending you messages or randomly showing up at your house because he missed you or wanted to make sure you were okay.

Dates with him are usually spontaneous and not overall grand but the kind that are simple yet romantic.

He's also very sweet when you're intimate.

Switch but not in the way you think.

While his normal side can be quite the pleasure dom/soft dom, when Haru goes dark things can get a bit...BDSM like. However, him going dark that way is very rare and will probably only happen if you make him very jealous/worried.

Momiji Soma

He is such an obsessive partner.

Momiji wants to know everything about you. He wants to learn every little quirk and secret, every small trait. Your favourite flower, food you dislike, drama going on in your life, Momiji is there for it all.

He's just so completely infatuated with you he can't help but feel a need to know everything.

It's not the kind of thing where he asks you questions at rapid fire trying to learn everything, but more that he's just always wanting to get to know more about you.

Momiji has always had to love people from a distance so he gets a little excited at the prospect of being able to love you without restrictions, without having to pretend he doesn't know you or doesn't care.

He's quick to confess and even quicker to get into the hang of things, constantly hugging you and dropping kisses on your hand, face, lips, neck, anywhere you would allow.

Momiji is fully and completely obsessed with you, and he loves it. He loves you.

He will rear it in if you feel like he's getting overwhelming but Momiji cannot not love you.

When it comes to being intimate, Momiji might be a little overwhelmed at first, like too excited, and you'd have to help ground him and focus on the actual act rather than going crazy because your top's off.

He can be so soft and gentle, almost as if he's afraid to break you, but once he gets the hang of it Momiji's open to exploring new things.

He isn't one for BDSM (like at all, honestly he's more opposed to it than Yuki) and prefers more of the lovemaking type of intimacy.

In Defense of Gillington "Gil" Webber

This has been a long time coming. For some reason there is this very prevalent and annoying trend in the Monster High fandom that Gil is not only a bad boyfriend to Lagoona but that he is also racist.

People believe this so much they are willing to die on that hill. But is it TRUE is the question at hand here. let's take a deep dive into the oldest of Monster High lore and see if this claim has a leg to stand on. is Gil racist, a bad boyfriend or a bad character? let's go ghouls.

An Unfortunate part about early Monster High continuity is there there are 2 beginnings. The Web series was around first and they just dove right in, But chronologically A New Ghoul @ School is the proper introduction to Monster High as it follows Frankie during their first week at school.

Now here's where things get tricky, Gil is only in New Ghoul @ School for less than 20 seconds, We see him competing in a swim meet and then at the end he is dancing with Lagoona at the Dawn of the Dance, So in this timeline they are already "a thing"

But our first introduction to Gil is in "Blue Lagoona" where Lagoona is oogling Gil while they are in Cawculus class. Which is the 6th Episode of Volume 1, so pretty early on in the series.

Lagoona calls him a swimsuit model, day dreams in class about Gil and doodles in her notebook. The bell wakes her up and she has lost the book she was doodling in. whether Lagoona lost the book or if Gil swiped it is unclear, but he has the book and he gives it back to Lagoona, where he has wrote on her doodle to "Meet him at the Fountain at 3" Now we don't know what happens at the Fountain at 3 because the episode ends, but this is important because Lagoona is the one who chased Gil, if she wasn't drawing where people could see or if she was perhaps a little quieter Gil probably would have never known She liked him, But he is cool with this because he likes her too. Lagoona is the instigator but the feeling is mutual, this is important to remember for later.

We don't see much of Gil until Episode 12 where Lagoona is once again, crushing hard on him. She tells the Ghouls and Frankie that Gil is so cute.

They are featured in the Episode 24 Hatch me if you Can where Mr. Hack gives them an assignment that is very much like that "baby think me over" program where students are given an object to treat like a baby to give them a little taste of parenthood. Mr. Hack gives everyone a Gargoyle Egg to take care of for a week, the partners seem based off whoever you're sitting next to in the class. When he gets to Gil & Lagoona he tells them "Maybe you should switch partners" when Lagoona asks why he says "everyone knows Sea Monsters are bad parents" and WOW! I forgot this show made me watch Lagoona and Gil experience a microaggression but there it is. I'm not really surprised it came from Mr. Hack either, after all he IS based off slashers from the 70's. Lagoona is hurt by this and Gil immediately jumps to her aid telling Mr. Hack that what he said isn't true and it's "an old fisherman's tale"

Look at Gil's face. That is anger, real anger at the implication that him and Lagoona would make bad parents. This egg thing is the very first conflict they face together and Gil's first instinct is to tell Mr. Hack off. I don't think they are even officially dating by this point. I think they are just kinda hanging out and enjoying each others company. Remember that when a teacher said something racially insensitive to Lagoona, Gil got mad and defended her.

Lagoona and Gil work together to take care of their egg, they treat it as if it was their own little sea monster. Lagoona puts lotion (?) on it, Gil builds it a nest and Lagoona keeps it warm- inside of a frog? - Look, I don't know sea monster husbandry so I'm assuming they're doing a good job. And they did! after the week is over everyone in class has screwed up their project except for Lagoona and Gil who took such good care of their egg that it hatches & bites off Mr. Hacks face. Their egg was the only one to hatch and Lagoona tells Gil "I knew we'd make great parents"

This is the end of Volume 1, Volume 2 is A LOT more structured than Volume 1 it also introduces a ton of new Characters like Clawd, Jackson, Toralei and the twins it also shows the disbanding of the Fearleading team from Volume 1 however this creates a continuity error, In Volume 1 Clawdeen, Draculaura and Lagoona were all on the Fearleading team already (Ghoulia was going to try out for the team too but she bailed after Cleo said she didn't want "Dead Weight" on her team.. and Ghoulia is a zombie- ha! funny joke) But in Volume 2 Clawdeen & Draculaura re-join the team as if they never were on it before & Lagoona is now Captain of the Swim Team. I'm also pretty sure that Volume 2 is where they aim for more serialized content instead of just a bunch of one off episodes that are vaguely linked together and I love this! Volume 2 is my favorite for this reason! I love the long form story! I'd like to add that during this volume Clawdeen actively tries to sabotage Draculaura dating Clawd from showing Draculaura a steak knowing she will faint (that's her friend), Closing Draculaura into a locker after telling her they better just be friends and stealing Clawds mail while they are at fearleading camp. (which is a feral offense BTW) and telling Clawd that he can't date Draculaura because "she's not one of us" but NO ONE gives Clawdeen shit for being toxic and/or racist. She shouldn't get a pass just because she's cute and a girl. I love Clawdeen too but what she did was screwed up and she never got reprimanded for it, Draculaura just stopped talking to her for a few days/a week and then we forget about it.

But Back to the case at hand, Gil.

In Episode 32 "Varsity Boos" Frankie asks Lagoona if she is going to go dance with Gil and Lagoona says "it's complicated" This is our first indicator that there is trouble in Paradise, Frankie says "it's okay for friends to dance together" but then they bail on that thought and say "I guess it is weird" So I don't know if this is Lagoona freaking out about them being "different" OR if she just has the jitters because it's not clear if Gil & her are dating yet. High school romances are fickle and defining them can be challenging for anyone, Racist parents or not.

In Episode 36 "Screech to the Beach" The fearleading team is going to Gloom Beach fearleading academy, Lagoona is also going because her parents go to Gloom Beach every Spring Break for "underwater camping" Why is she on the bus with the fearleading team even though shes not on it and should be driving up with her parents?... Don't... think about it too much. BUT while the ghouls and Frankie are packing Draculaura comments that Lagoona will be "back in your natural elements huh?" and Lagoona explains that Gloom Beach is not her natural habitat, She is from the Ocean and is a Salt Water creature and Gloom Beach is a fresh water lake like Gil who is a river monster, this is the very first time we hear it spelled out that Lagoona and Gil are "different" but Lagoona assures Draculaura that she can still hold her own in the fresh water. this is important. Most of the gang is napping on the bus and Lagoona has yet another dream of her and Gil smooching, only this time she's saving him from a water tank malfunction and she inhales bottled water to be able to give Gil Mouth to Mouth with fresh water before we cut away from her dream, I mention this because it's important we know that Lagoona is thirsty for this boy. (pun definitely intended)

In Episode 37 "Witch Trials" we see that lots of students from Monster High just go to Gloom Beach for the camping on the North Beach while Fearleading academy is on the South Beach. So while the gang is taking a break from fearleading chores we see Gil also came to Gloom Beach for Spring Break and him and Lagoona immediately hit it off playing "Monster Polo" with other monsters. Lagoona scores a goal and celebrates, Gil comments that shes "Not bad for a sea water gal" then Gil scores a goal and Lagoona comments "thanks Mate! you're not bad yourself for a fresh water bloke" This is them at play! some gentle ribbing of each other, they high five and hold hands, good feels all around. This is them acknowledging their differences but still being into each other regardless. So no one can use the excuse "Well maybe Gil didn't know she was salt water!" when they both spell it out for us, they know what the other one is and accept them anyways. This is important because If Gil was actually racist wouldn't he have bailed on Lagoona the moment she said she was from the sea? But he doesn't. He likes her exactly as she is.

In episode 38 "Don't cheer the Reaper" it's the next day and Lagoona goes to get Gil to play more of their game but suddenly Gil is hesitant. His entire body language has changed, He laughs nervously and can't make eye contact with Lagoona, he seems upset, So when she asks him to play he says "I can't, now's not a good time" And Lagoona asks when IS a good time and Gil says "I don't know, I don't want to talk about it"

Lagoona reassures Gil that he can tell her anything but Gil stands firm "I can't tell you this, I don't want to hurt your feelings" it is safe to assume the reason for this sudden change in Gil's demeanor is because last night he probably told his parents about this cute girl from the sea that he has been getting along with so well, Based on Gil's expressions and avoidance it's safe to say they did not take this news well and probably chewed him out because Gil's parents are racist against Salt Water Monsters. So even while Gil is hurting his first instinct is to protect Lagoona’s feelings and spare her from his parents prejudice.

man, what a toxic racist asshole, being concerned about the girl he likes feelings.

A couple of days go by and in Episode 39 "Road to Monster Mashionals" Lagoona confronts Gil who has been avoiding her. He reluctantly tells her the truth that his Parent's don't want to him hanging out with her because her people are from the sea, he's fresh water and it's forbidden. She asks him if he believes in that and he says no, but his parents do and they won't allow Gil to be around her. He says he's sorry and swims away, leaving Lagoona devastated.

Some people may view this as cowardice on Gil's part and I supposed to some degree it is, But sometimes being a coward is the right call to make. Gil is 16 and his parents still have a lot of control over him, They feed him, house him are responsible for him. This puts Gil is an unfortunate situation. He likes Lagoona but his parents don't, I don't know what y'all expect Gil to do about this, being a minor and all. but he's playing the hand he has been dealt and is choosing to walk away from Lagoona before they get too involved and it hurts even more. I do not believe this is cowardice, this is mercy.

Gil is trying to make it hurt less.

In Episode 40 "Queen of the Scammed" Gil tries to talk to Lagoona once school is back in session and Lagoona is not having it.

She is pissed and rightfully so, She has every right to be mad- but she shouldn't be mad at Gil. Gil tries to explain to her that what's happening between them isn't his will, but the will of his parents and Lagoona tells him that he needs to stand up for himself. And maybe he does, but how exactly does she see this panning out for Gil? Does she think he'll plead his case in the name of love and his parents will magically throw out all of their prejudices? That's... not how curing racism works, it's never that easy. Maybe Lagoona doesn't understand this because her own family is so supportive of her that she can't imagine why a family wouldn't be on their sons side. But this isn't her family, it's Gil's and we don't know what his home life is like, he seems to fear his parents so I'm assuming they have given him a reason to be afraid.

In Episode 42 "Hoodoo you like" The ghouls & Frankie are talking about boys & their relationships. Clawdeen asks Lagoona how things are with Gil and she says "Better Now, but things are so complicated you know" Most of this episode is spent on Frankie and them making a boyfriend to fit in (and creating Hoodude) but this statement from Lagona shows that something went down off screen that we do not know.

Gil confides in Deuce that he lied to Lagoona about his parents being okay with them seeing each other, I am assuming this means Lagoona and him are officially going out. Deuce tells Gil that if Lagoona finds out she will be upset and Gil knows this.

This is probably the first time Gil is in the wrong, Lying to someone you love is never a good idea. This is the first time we see Gil actually be selfish. He thinks if his Parents don't know and Lagoona doesn't know then no one gets hurt, right? Gil is trying to have his cake and eat it too. but this is a temporary solution to a long term problem. However, I'm going to give him a pass because I know what it's like to be young and in love and stupid. His situation is shitty and I would have lied too... as a matter of fact, I did. You might be wondering why I'm putting so much work into defending Gil well the truth is, I've been in Gil's shoes. I fell in love with someone who was not the same ethnicity as me and my horribly racist father would have not approved, I didn't tell him who I was dating for over a year, once he did find but he disowned me and hasn't spoken to me in like 8 years. but the difference between Gil and I is I'm an adult and I can survive without my parents, Gil is a minor and he probably can't.

SO while what he is doing is wrong, it's understandable.

In Episode 43 "Fear Pressure" we see Lagoona and Gil competing in a swim meet. They win and get a trophy for Monster High.

But Toralei, who's been a little shirt stirrer all season takes a picture of them holding hands and she says it will be a good spread in the Fearbook.

I'm not sure how she knows about Lagoona and Gils relationship or that Gil has racist parents, but she knows and she is willing to blow up Gil's secret just to get back at Lagoona who doesn't put up with her nonsense.

In Episode 44 "Fear the Book" the fearbook is finished and has been released to the school! Toralei kept her word and made an entire spread about Lagoona and Gil.

Lagoona loves this, Gil is not as thrilled because now there is photographic proof he has disobeyed his parents.

Cornered, Gil tells Lagoona that he didn't tell his parents about their relationship. Lagoona is hurt that he lied to her about this.

Gil then tells Lagoona that his parents threatened to send him to an "Underwater Boarding School" if he keeps seeing her & that he had no choice. This is the first time Gil's parents threaten him directly. Lagoona, wounded, Walks away from Gil to "study for a test" But she is once again, rightfully upset with him. But this time it's actually his fault. I never claimed Gil was perfect but he's not the villain the fandom has made him out to be either.

Gil waits for Lagoona to get out of her exam to speak with her again. He says they will be safe together as long as his parents don't see the fearbook and he tells Lagoona that his parents don't need to know about them... Lagoona does not take this well.

She tells Gil "ether you agree with them or you don't and if you don't ? you need to do something about it instead of acting like a frightened dingo! I don't even know who you are anymore" before walking away.

Lagoona is being unreasonable here. He doesn't agree with his parents, Lagoona knows this because he explicitly told her this while at Gloom Beach. What she said sounds good in theory and in a perfect world? Gil should be able to be honest with his parents... but we don't live in a perfect world now do we? Everyone keeps telling Gil he needs to "do something about it" it being his parents racism, but WHAT do y'all expect him to DO!? Tell them their racist ways are wrong? - because parents love being told they're wrong by their teenage son - sounds like Gil is getting his ass whooped tonight. Tell them that he's going to see Lagoona anyways? He's getting sent to an underwater boarding school. Not tell them but then they find out he's dating Lagoona anyways because of the fearbook? someone is sleeping under a bridge that night and it won't be Lagoona. And who would take him in if his parents throw him out? Lagoona? I'm sure Wade would love to have a teenage boy under their roof that has the hots for his daughter. Deuce? is he even good friends with Deuce by this point? they've only talked like twice. His 5 eyed friend that he crushed at the swim meet? I doubt it.

Everyone wants Gil to "do something" but no one is thinking about the consequences of doing something, No one but Gil because he's the one who'd be directly effected.

Lagoona and Gil meet up after school to have another talk and Gil brings up the point that if he tells his parents, he gets sent to Boarding school and he loses Lagoona anyways. Lagoona says "Don't do it for me! Do it for you! You can't let their prejudice run your life!" And here's the shitty part- Lagoona is right, Gil's parents prejudice SHOULDN'T run his life, but they currently do. That sounds all good on paper Lagoona but notice how what you said doesn't address him being sent to another school against his will.

Frankie, whom bless their heart has the worst timing, they jump into their convo and asks for Lagoona to sign their fearbook, Lagoona agrees and Frankie informs both of them that this is the first year the fearbook is going to be digitized and sent to every parent. Lagoona thinks it's great, Gil...does not feel the same.

Look at Gil as Frankie tells him this.

Look at his face! that expression? is pure terror. That is the face of someone whose entire world is collapsing around them in real time. No child should be this afraid of their parents, but Gil is. We don't know what kind of home life Gil has but this is a very bad sign. If Gil is this afraid of his parents that means they have done something before to make him this afraid and I'm sure it's a lot more severe than being grounded.

In Episode 45 "Desperate Hours" Heath is talking to Gil and reminding him how screwed he is. while Lagoona is eavesdropping.

Heath bails and Gil notices Lagoona as he calls his parents, he tells her wait because he thinks she needs to hear this too.

Gil says "you always taught me that salt water people weren't as good as us fresh water people. That they are untrustworthy, uneducated and smell terrible"

Lagoona with the pit check is way funnier than it has any business being during this serious moment.

"But above all that they were dishonest but now I know that you were wrong." pause for effect. "I have this...uh... friend and she's the most honest, decent, amazing monster I know. She's from the sea"

Gil's racist parents scream at him, to the surprise of no one. then hang up on him.

Gil tells Lagoona that his parents don't feel the way he does, but that he has never felt better! a weight has been lifted! Gil, as terrified as he was still told his parents the truth. He confronted his parents and he did it for Lagoona.

They should have kissed here, but because Mattel is run by a bunch of prudes, they joke and then Lagoona accidentally walks into the pool.

In Episode 46 "Miss Infearmation" We see Gil and Lagoona are happy! Lagoona asks him if they will see each other over the summer & Gil says his parents are mad now but they will come around.

This is what you writer types call "Foreshadowing"

From here on out we get introduced to a bunch of new characters after the school year ends, it's kind of weird that while everyone is cleaning out their lockers to get ready to leave school for the summer Jackson is formerly introduced to Frankie and we meet Spectra & Nefera. But that is just a pet peeve.

In Episode 47 "Hyde and Shriek" Clawdeen asks Lagoona how things are going with Gil. They are officially on Summer Vacation.

Lagoona is distressed and says he hasn't returned any of her texts or e-mails and that his parents seemed very angry, Clawdeen trying to be positive tells Lagoona not to sweat it because it's their first day of summer vacation, Gil is probably just busy.

But we all know, that is not true.

In Episode 49 "Nefera Again" The summer is over and the ghouls & Frankie are doing their back to school shopping!

Lagoona got a summer job at the Coffin Bean, which is odd Because she's never got a doll with any of the Coffin Bean play sets, Draculaura, Clawdeen and now Deuce have. Interesting since she seems to be the only one who actually worked there.

But she is down in the dumps because by this point the entire summer has passed and she has heard nothing from Gil.

Who would have thought that forcing Gil to confront his racist parents would have had a negative outcome.

In Episode 50 "Back to Ghoul" The new school year has begun and we are introduced to Abbey! one of my fav ghouls, but this isn't about her so onward! Lagoona meets up with the gang when she comes out of the bathroom, she had been crying, She tells them that Gil's parents were so mad they sent him away to another school.

Whaaaaat? Gil's racist parents did exactly what they said they were going to do if their son disobeyed them!? Actions have consequences!? Well, I for one am fuckin' shocked.

Lagoona is the one who pressured him to confront his parents, Gil warned her about what would happen if he did and then she is surprised that it didn't go well for him. I don't know why Gil gets all the hate, Lagoona was clearly the aggressor here. Her idealistic world view got Gil punished and he's the bad guy for that??? I realize y'all love Lagoona, I love her too. but this screw up is on her webbed hands.

Well I'm out of space for pictures and I need them to better illustrate my points so I'm going to cut this analysis into parts. This subject is more complex than I had originally thought. But I am determined to clear Gil's good name!

2. a compelling argument for why your fave would never top or bottom

Honestly I write Ganondorf as a switch BUT I argue that he prefers to bottom a lot more over being a top. What is my compelling argument? Well, I think it has to do with how he was raised. What he knows is that women are entirely self-sufficient, they can be soldiers, rulers, merchants, caretakers aka they can do anything under the sun. They don't really *need* men to take care of their day to day needs, and they make it clear that they find men in that sense somewhat useless. When it comes to men, the Gerudo place more emphasis on finding someone who will be a companion and someone to raise a family with. Sometimes, I feel like Ganondorf must feel so lonely in the position he finds himself in, Gerudo through and through in his soul but in a body that the Gerudo themselves holds in less regard (but not you, they tell him, while they talk about how useless men are). So, I think he would personally have very complicated feelings around what it means to be a man, and I think bottoming, especially with someone he trusts, would help him assuage a lot his insecurities? Complicated feelings? (and I just think he probably finds it more physically enjoyable, like Ganondorf doesn't half ass anything, he is taking ALL the pleasure). (And I don't know a part of me does really believe that no one ever tried to crack the facade that Ganondorf puts on, like if someone did I think he would...enjoy someone taking care of him ya know, like the way a Gerudo woman would imagine herself being taken care of.) 3. screenshot or description of the worst take you've seen on tumblr Worst take? I'll keep it to fandom but it was that one time someone wanted to headcanon that Ganondorf's name didn't sound "Gerudo" because his name is actually a slur Hylians used for him that he chose to reclaim. I have so many issues with this take starting with what in the ever loving fuck? 6. which ship fans are the most annoying?

Zelinkers. Not all of them, but a lot of them. I don't hate Zelink; there are a lot of Zelink fanfics that are amongst my favorites but man, the fans. A lot of them act like they are being prosecuted for liking the most popular ship. A lot of them have made it their personal mission to harass people who like other ships, even the most vanilla ones. In the past, the majority of people who harassed me for defending Ganondorf and liking Ganondorf ships were Zelinkers. Most of the weird racism around the Gerudo when it comes to fanfic I have found in Zelink fics. Anyways, I like Zelink but you will never, if rarely, catch me interacting with anything Zelink in an obvious way because reasons. Link to questions!

A Funkin Chaotic Neutral

This is probably my first self insert/reader based idea I made. If you haven't known, I'm sorta in the mod based fandom of Friday Night Funkin since mentions are usually dropped in multiple posts to BF, GF and other characters popping up sometimes. Figure why not expand on that?

Anyway, this is basically Reader having the ability to summon or gain the powers from these characters. When you consider the cast whether it be from Newsground in general to other fandoms in general then we all know things are gonna get insane. Although there are implications.

First, these abilities originate from a unique building that houses a more 'direct' version of Friday Night Funkin. It allows Reader to face off various characters in rap battles or directly interact with each version's world. This is very important and here's why.

Reader can gain allies called Rappers' by beating them in these battles. Some are quite difficult to recruit or remain part of the roster so they have to be beaten multiple times. If a battle has hazards then Reader is forced to comply with them. Ex: Instakills such as Expurgation Tricky Flaming Notes if hit or KB's saw blade if not dodged in time.

These characters are split into three categories: Ace, Battle, and Support. Aces are very powerful but Reader can only bring one with them. EX: Convict from Newsground is a deadly killer who has the ability to shapeshift into anyone and gain target's entire active skillset.

Battle are characters that can fight or have combat based abilities. EX: Pico from Newsground is a gun wielder that can dish out powerful blows and is very agile. Support characters can't fight but can offer supportive abilities such as healing. EX: Skinner from Madness Combat is a doctor and has various medical experience to use.

Reader can carry up to three active Rappers and 3 backups should they need to switch. If one dies then it takes at least a day or two for the defeated to become usable. This process can be sped up by rap battling although some characters might get annoyed.

Reader is a chaotic neutral since the Rappers they can recruit are split between heroes, villains to even mercenaries. It also reduces any chance of rap battling to keep some characters from leaving their roster. Some such as Tabi are just like that in general.

Losing a rap battle does have more consequences though. These can vary depending on who their opponents is and the conditions for such a battle. Against every opponent, Reader will take on temporary aspects from Boyfriend.

These include becoming short/chibi like, minor loss in intelligence(the guy is very dumb) and being stuck having to say variations of beep boops. Uncommonly, they could take traits of their most used Rapper than just Boyfriend. Reader gets one every time they lose unless the character is kind enough to not dish out the punishment.

Some characters such as Madness Combat's Agent Torture can kill them. Thankfully, Reader has the ability to retry in a short 10 second time limit just like the game. Some characters only give limited chances and losing all of them is guaranteed death with no retries. It's best to be careful unless you want to lose your soul to Lord X.

Should this happen then the building will lay still until someone else gains ownership. Only one individual can wield the mysterious abilities inside. Passing it down to someone else is possible but this process can't be forced. A mutual agreement with no outside factors or it won't work.

Funnily enough, I do have some ideas on how to use this. Those will be saved for a different post as I don't want to make this too long. If anyone wants to do their own version of this then go ahead. Just mention the post here so everyone else can check it!

there is a spectrum of dom/general sexual behavior in Star Wars men. these are just headcanons based on the personalities of these characters and what is usually written for them in fics/smut. I just think analyzing all these characters sexual archetypes is absolutely fascinating and I love that the fandom comes together to mostly agree where each SW character falls in this spectrum.

A breakdown below the cut:

I’d say most clones are probably switch and are cool with having or giving up control depending on what the partner wants. So that means Fives, Echo, Jesse, Kix etc. most are switch. I’d also put Hunter and Wrecker in this category. Hook ups and relationships alike, they are going to be down for whatever their partner likes. No specific things they prefer. All sex good tbh haha. Tho I think Tech specifically has a TON of kinks bc his intellectual curiosity bleeds over into his sexual behavior too.

Then there’s the soft dom types that are in charge and enjoy it BUT are experts at praise, encouragement and after care. This is where Rex and Din Djarin fall. There are probably others. Maybe Gregor too. But these are the main three I think of in this context. They are in control as long as you want it and this connection deepens the more they like you. I think the bond is necessary for sex for these 3. They like moderate roughness and ordering you around solely because they absolutely love you.

Next are your true Dom’s…powerful, in control and with the potential to be almost toxic, sadistic and unforgiving depending on the person. This is mainly Wolffe, Cody and Crosshair. They are in charge and you are not. Period. The degree to which aftercare matters to them depends on how much they like you and they will not fall for someone easily. They get what they want and you’ll enjoy it. But everything is up to them and they have no patience at all for misbehaving, resisting on purpose or being bratty and they’d get annoyed if you don’t listen. these three are not for amateurs and I don’t feel emotional connection is deemed necessary for them to behave like this, meaning they will act this way with hook ups too. I think it would take a lot for them to permit emotional connection but once it’s formed it’s unbreakable and irresistible to them.

The absolute furthest end of the spectrum is Boba Fett. The Brat Tamer. He is in charge. You do what he says and he takes care of you. The more you put up a fight and the brattier you act the more he likes dominating you. He likes degradation and reward, he likes claiming you, he is Daddy (especially Daimyo Boba era), you will never have control and you will take what he gives you like the good girl you are. Of course, afterwards you will be rewarded and taken care of properly for following his orders. But this man has patience and time and likes watching you be a brat knowing he controls whether or not you get your way. He owns you and you love it. He has the utmost love and care for you and protects you with his life because once you’re his there is no length he would not go to keep you safe. The relationship bond is necessary for Boba, especially as he gets older.

There are of course some overlaps sometimes. Like I think Din is a soft Daddy and Rex could definitely handle a little brat. Jesse, Kix and Hunter can also fit into a Dom role very very easily and are good at it, but it’s not their ONLY preference.

i’m putting this under a cut actually

the game plot i think i mostly got most of the information out in asides and can be pieced together in the fic—player starts at the engagement party, picks a love interest, and then does what they can to get rid of the villain and get a happy ending. most of what i came up for as far as routes and endings goes is in the fic itself, since Martyn took the entire party to just throw out ridiculous and annoying amounts of exposition, as is isekai standard. i honestly had a lot of fun coming up with those—i did bounce the game plot around in a gc, so they’re not 100% mine, but i thought what we came up with was pretty clever

stuff about the game i couldn’t fit because there was no reason to even come up with it, but would influence martyn’s actions if this wasn’t a oneshot, includes like. the way the game works, you only pick one person at the party, and the rest of them sort of drop off out of the plot. if the player picks, say, cleo, then impulse goes home to his kingdom, etho is standoffish and you don’t talk much to him, and Scar will mostly avoid genuine conversation on account of committing so much crime. there are opportunities to change your route later—impulse will write you a letter somewhere mid game, maybe, or you have a random encounter w etho or scar—but switching from your chosen love interest mid-game greatly increases the chance of getting one of their bad ends

Martyn doesn’t actually know the endings that well. he knows the parts of the game Ren is in pretty well, but the good ends? not so much. had i written more of this, that’d probably have caused him problems—there’s probably crucial information on character motivations and such in those—but eh.

(i sort of wanted to include some neutral ends, but that seemed like too much work)

as for the rest of the fic’s hypothetical plot, there were actually two!

we did actually come up w some ideas for if the fic proceeded as a normal isekai, mostly in that we all got wildly invested in isekai treebark. personal favorite message in that particular part of the conversation:

Ren is genuinely a compelling character in this fic to me (the hardest part of writing this was truly trying to pretend he wouldn’t be deeply beloved in fandom tbh), like. again, i alluded to a lot of this without directly saying it or said it in parts, but Ren’s pretty lonely/insecure here in this piece. he’s trying to do what he can for his kingdom, have a relatively pleasant marriage with someone who could at least be a friend.

and yet. who are bdubs’s romance options, to Ren? the captain of the guard who is supposed to be trusted to keep him safe? the financial advisor who is supposed to help keep his country afloat? two foreign powers who he’d want to keep the peace with, who could lead armies to his door? his fiancé colluding with any of these people is a horrifying prospect, especially if he doesn’t know it’s ‘for love’—it could just as easily be purely a bid for power. and really, it’s not paranoia if they’re really out to get you. he goes from sort of uncertain about the whole thing to his trusted people suddenly turning on him, accusing him of being a villain and keeping apart true love while he’s simply trying to follow the life set out for him to be a good king. when he loses that path he sort of just. loses his mind. listen ren has not done anything wrong i’m an AtPM Ren apologist listen—

speaking of ren apologists. Martyn was also a pretty lonely and an entirely purposeless person before meeting the micra, which. he wouldn’t directly address or acknowledge it, but this familiarity with what Ren is feelings is a large part of why he wants to see a happy ending for Ren so badly

so Martyn stretches out the hand he couldn’t admit he wanted someone to offer, and Ren falls in love instantly. this actually makes Martyn’s entire goal easier—Ren is no longer interested in playing the villain in Bdubs’s story. he wants to be the love interest in Martyn’s. had a few ideas abt that particular desire, ranging wildly from really cute (i cannot stop thinking abt smth Beans said abt Ren seeinf Martyn across a garden and the wag of his tail being audible under his cape) to crushing to my soul (he’s a lonely guy, Ren is. thinking about how isolated he feels and how much Martyn is a light in the dark for him kills me dead)

the ending of the actual isekai plot was going to involve Ren faking his fucking death so the two of them can run away together. personal favorite conversation that never was would be Ren telling Martyn he should be dead (as lead up for proposing to fake his death and elope) and Martyn, who has been trying to avoid that for weeks, being like Ren for fuck’s sake—

i don’t have so much for the timeloop because i literally refuse to flesh it out to avoid temptation. however, a dating sim is a game where one is encouraged to play over and over again until they get the desired ending (or even just to see what will happen). Martyn’s own canonical third life lore is that he’s been playing in death games a while. it matches up pretty damn well, i think, and if i were interested in running with it, i imagine something interesting could be done with it

also, Martyn would be meeting Ren for the first time again every single loop. which is a fun detail to me. i want to be tragic about it—Ren repeatedly forgetting about him should be angsty—but i genuinely cannot believe he wouldn’t fall in love over and over again tbh. it’s love at first sight every single time, simply because Martyn cares about him too much not to show it and Ren will be swept away by that every iteration

that said, if you’re interested in the idea of an isekai timeloop, i genuinely recommend Surviving Romance. it will feel like a bit too much at parts bc it does have maybe Too many premises. but keep going, it’s worth it

also, bonus trivia. i need you to know there was so much stupid shit we came up w abt Martyn before being isekai’d that i couldn’t fit because Martyn didn’t think it was noteworthy enough to mention. that man owns an ita bag. he has downloaded mods to romance Ren and deleted them due to bad Ren characterization (too much Cool Sexy Evil Villain, where is the sad and lonely cringefail dogboy who Martyn fell in love with??)

Oooh for favorite Sandman character, definitely the Corinthian! He’s just - he’s everything! He’s queer, he’s a fuck up, he’s weird, he’s *trying*, he’s constantly looking to partner up with other people to help him overthrow his boss, he’s manipulative but not necessarily *good* at it. I love that he loves life, and loves humanity in his own way. He’s a nightmare, so his love is nightmarish and monstrous, but he’s so capable of having fun and there is something tragic about him being punished for being true to his nature. I’m not sure he’s really capable of being any way other than what he is, and I adore that for him.

I especially love him contrasted against the collectors - they’re all so full of resentment and spite, they’ve all invented narratives where they’re justified in killing their victims, and the Corinthian doesn’t need that at all! He doesn’t hate his victims! He’s a monster, he doesn’t need to justify what he’s doing. His speech to them was kind of hilarious in that it sort of missed the mark about why *they* kill - most of them aren’t really killing to kill at all! And when they speculate on the reasons for his name, and he kinda demurs?? Because it’s just his name! It’s not some badass moniker he came up with for himself like the rest of them. It is literally just his name.

Character I felt the writers screwed up… urgh, not to drag myself back into the OFMD fandom (yikes), but as someone who binged season 1 and was hella excited where season 2 would take the story… I gotta say Ed Teach. I won’t get too far down this rabbit hole, but needless to say, if you choose to write your co-protagonist and romantic lead as an abusive monster, that’s fine, but please actually follow-through, don’t just hand-wave it all away when it starts to headbutt against the “sunshine friendship&romance” plot you wanna tell

Gabby/Pierce

when or if I started shipping it: Not until I saw that deleted scene a few months ago!! God, I’m still feral over it. That he calls her by a nickname - that there was clearly a friendship between them, if not more – and it makes so much sense with how hyped up he’s acting right after her death, like he’s keeping himself going on willpower and Ritalin, and the way he looks so solemn when he’s telling Caliban people don’t change?? GAH. It’s a ship I didn’t think about for YEARS but has grabbed me right by the throat.

my thoughts: That I love it. That I want it. That there’s an entire movie about Gabby and Pierce’s relationship we only catch glimpses of the tail-end of, and I’ll never stop screaming about that.

What makes me happy about them: That they were friends!! She’s a nurse and he was the Reaver commander, but he *knew* her well enough to know that she loved comic books (like him!) They’re very different people – she doesn’t strike me as someone that would be drawn in to his posturing, and he’s hinted at being kinda nerdy and quiet at points in the movie where he’s not fronting, and I love the implication that she saw a side of him he doesn’t normally show to people.

What makes me sad about them: y’know it’s a tough call, but probably the part where she gets killed either by him or his Reavers on his command 😭 although it does add a deliciously tragic edge to it too

Things done in fanfic that annoys me: that there’s not more of it!

Things I look for in fanfic: assuming there was more fanfic of the two of them, I’d probably look for fanfics that explored Pierce being… maybe not *softer*, but more vulnerable with Gabby, but without making him OOC (I like my boy with his off-putting, nasty streak!) Them being drawn in to the aspects of each other that they don’t feel as comfortable showing is *chef’s kiss*

My kinks: ooh definitely femdom, CNC (i can see them switching roles for that one), pegging, and MFM threesomes with a “forced bi” roleplay element, light bondage

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: Probably Logan!

when or if I started shipping it: A while back (maybe a year ago now?) a friend of mine in a server drew a gorgeous piece of Calliope/Corinthian art (the one I attached to the tumblr post linking to my story, with their permission), and I was hooked after that!

my thoughts: Corinthian deserves a better master than Dream tbh, and I love him with an actual goddess who understands some part of his whole personhood situation. Someone who respects him as an individual, but also understands that if he doesn’t have someone holding his own leash pretty tightly (and giving him plenty of enrichment and affection), he’s gonna go off and do *sooo* many murders because that’s just who he is. And I love Calliope getting to indulge in some messy sex after her ordeal, with someone that just adores her for *her* and not that she’s a muse

What makes me happy about them: that their needs have the capability to balance out pretty well!! That I can see Calliope as someone who can survive and thrive with the Corinthian, and I think the Corinthian would be better off under her, too.

What makes me sad about them: when i remember they probably have met before, in happier times when Orpheus was still alive, and we’ll likely never see it 😭 did Calliope like Dream’s favorite nightmare?? Did she pamper him like a treasured pet? Was he jealous of her for her closeness to Dream? Did he adore having someone around that treated him with a softer touch?

Things done in fanfic that annoys me: again, that there’s just not really fanfic for them! 😭

Things I look for in fanfic: (assuming there was more to choose from!) really anything exploring the power dynamics between a nightmare with daddy issues and a goddess that’s spent the last 70 years imprisoned. I don’t think they could ever be regular boyfriend/girlfriend, free of power imbalance, but that’s what I adore about it

My kinks: femdom, Calliope as a masochistic dom, CNC with Calliope as the “victim” (specifically love her reclaiming herself and her sexuality & reconciling some of her trauma through some CNC), gentle domme, primal play, orgasm control/denial

i thought you had two blogs [this one and one for art] but then i saw another blog. is it like a blog franchise?

So when I joined tumblr in the year 2011, I didn't know what fandom was. My only blog was onionjuggler, and I used it mainly to follow college and high school friends. Despite reading all of Homestuck, I remained fully unaware of fandom until 2017 when I played Mass Effect and became obsessed with a video game.

In order to not annoy the hell out of my real life friends by reblogging a thousand pictures of Shepard, I made a fandom blog. I still didn't understand fandom or even that the actual purposes of tags on tumblr was for finding fellow fans or whatever, but I was having a good time.

In the space from 2011 to 2024, all but around six of my RL friends have left tumblr, and those six probably go online like once a week. Meanwhile, my fandom habits picked up, and I made a bunch of online friends. This has had the unfortunate effect of my "main" blog being followed by like 6 people (ilu all tho), and my fandom blog having far more people I'm regularly in contact with through this site and people who follow me for whatever reason of their own.

Unfortunately, tumblr doesn't let you switch main blog vs side blog, which mean my follows, asks, and (until a couple months ago) replies all come from onionjuggler. This has confused people for seven years now. The only way to fix it is to delete the original main blog which will promote Baejax to main, and I'm unwilling to nuke onionjuggler because it is my old friends home for aging millennials.

My third blog is actually attached to a completely separate account because I realized my relationship with getting notes on my art made me feel pretty terrible, and I wanted to make it so i can't check that sort of thing on my phone AND so I couldn't compare the notes my reblogged art was getting to the art I personally made. It helped a lot. I highly recommend this for anyone having similar feelings.

Is it a franchise? Probably not. Is it a mess? Yeah. For a while I tried to keep "juggler" in the fandom blog title to make it more obvious, but people started calling me 'Jugs' and for obvious reasons I couldn't let that continue.

Okay, so I told myself I would try and get Railway done by the last last week of Season 2 since I was still mostly dicking around with my teambuilding and not making anything meta out of stubbornness, and that day is quickly approaching. Originally I was going to be lazy and just use W Corp because Charge is busted, I have Don Telepole, and I will play Meta if it means getting through a bad/annoying series of fights over with faster.

However.

I also want to at least try and be original and do something a little out of pocket, to beat this challenge my way using strategies and units I personally like using or want to use. To that end, before I ultimately cave and just Uptie 4 Warp Don for the mother of all Charge Teams I wanted to give Railway an earnest go the way I'd prefer to. And my inner Hod is acting up this week so I'm going to try and built a (Non-N Corp) bleed team.

Keep in mind I'll be bring all these units to Level 35 over the week and possibly going to Uptie 4 a few of them, namely Ryoshu and maybe Meursault. I wanted to hear the fandom's opinion before I dive into this.

That said, here's the quick summary of this team.

Yi Sang is here for Crows Eye View to buff Don and Meur's clash/coin power with that much needed haste boost.

Don is here for her good clashing numbers and declaring duels.

Heathcliff is actually more on support than a mainstay since I don't feel like dealing with his ammo.

The Zwei IDs are there to tank and Faust fuels her own Fluid Sac.

Outis is an emergency tank/rupture gal.

Ish is here to support Yi Sang's sinking if need be.

Okay, onto the breakdown.

Yi Sang: Yi Sang is going to be the on the active team is probably the most important member of the team. Along with his good clashing and Sinking application for chip damage, Crow Eye View practically required for this team so I can boost Don and Meursault's speed and let them access their extra bits as they hit +7 speed. Sunshower being a good AoE ego also helps.

The Bleed Team: With the understanding that I'm going to be pushing hard with the bleed team characters like Kurokumo Ryoshu, Rhino Meursault, and Hook Hong Lu are a must. I was debating between Tingtang and Hook, but since I have little in terms of bleed potency already I went with Hook Hong Lu. I'm hoping that Hong Lu can put in the work for bleed potency, but I can't be sure sense I only use him in mirror dungeons at the moment. I know Steam Machine's gonna' be a pain with their Bleed-Cap, but that's what Seven Outis, Molar Ish, and Yi Sang are for in case the first round with it feels too tedious. I'm tempted to put Heathcliff on the bleed team, but I'll be saving him for when I really need his Quick Supression since I can not afford to lose an expensive unit like him early on. and I can actually do stuff with his support passive with this team.

The Tanks: From what I've gleamed Zwei Faust and Zwei Gregor sync well with each other, and I'm gonna' need some damage sponges and Aggro because I can NOT afford for ANYTHING of the DPS units to die in this run. Everyone is too vital to go missing save for maybe, ironically, Rabbit Heathcliff. Faust is especially useful since she fuels her own Fluid Sac and the only thing we're really hard pressed on is Envy, but overall have units with good clashing so it shouldn't be too bad.

The Extras: Rabbit Heathcliff is here to get 45 Sanity on the first boss, then spam the shit out of Quick Supression to delete Steam Machine ASAP. Ironically, he'll be the one I'm saving until maybe the third or fourth cycle. I need at least one DPS unit I can switch out at any given time and Heathcliff is too valuable to risk losing early on. This is the same mentality I have for putting one Seven Outis and Molar Ish. Seven Outis is mostly here as an emergency unit with good clashing just in case I either lose a tank near the end or when I feel like I'll really need that spammable base EGO rupture chip damage. Molar Ish is there to help support sinking with Yi Sang along with also having good clashing power. Mostly emergency units at the end of the day.

The Supports: I have no good Rodion or Sinclair IDs, at least for Railway, so I'm gonna' be using base Rodion's passive and if I have the thread to spare I'll Uptie Zwei Sinclair for his surprisingly decent support passive. Heathcliff is ironically on the support team too since he can boost quite a few of my units with this time with his pierce boost, namely Yi Sang and Ryoshu, but Hook Hong Lu might get some usefulness out of this too if I play my cards right (or wrong).

And... that's the team. Any thoughts so far? Anyone I should Uptie 4 first before I dive in? Is this actually going to be possible or am I'm just screwed and should Uptie 4 Warp Don for MAXIMUM CHARGE TEAM to get through this?

Your analysis of Ren is really interesting(thank you for creating more content for him, by the way. It's never too much.). I do agree with it too. Wanna know your thoughts on the Auditioner. Because, i think a lot of BTD2 Ren had to change to get to that path. He can't switch between dominant and submissive when he's leading an underground business, he certainly had to learn to at least pretend he's keeping it together, least someone took advantage of that side of him.

Do you ever wonder what happened to mc in that route? He's learned to be more cold blooded by now, so mc being dead is not that far fetched. But i like to think he kept them as his pet forever! Because it's more fun that way.

HMMMM my opinions on dilf Ren...... to be honest I'm still in a little shock 😅 there's no doubt people change a ton between 21 years and 47 years old... and that outcome is apparently supposed to be the canon continuation for ren's "strade shirt route".

honestly if I take a more realistic psychological approach to the dominant/submissive scale, I'd say that it's probably not too far fetched that Ren still indulges his submissive side. no doubt it probably looks very different from back then, but it's still likely there in some way, shape, or form. it's common in BDSM for people to want to play the opposite role to their everyday life, so I wouldn't be surprised if he showed that side to a person he trusted a lot.

now that you mention it, yeah I kinda do wonder about what would happen if someone stuck around for that long! I wonder how he'd handle being in a committed relationship, even one of the, uh.... pet / owner variety.

ooh, my favorite version of Ren ........ super self-indulgent, but I love the endings where u make him ur bitch HAHAH he makes a very cute submissive and I'd love to take care of him (after putting him in his place, of course). I think Ren would actually be very nice company if you got to steer the relationship. his behavior in the beginning is.... concerning, to say the least.... but I think if u could subdue him a little so he's not so quick-tempered, he'd be pretty fun.

this has no basis in canon as far as I know, but I like to think that Ren has the sort of personality that complements the person he's with. for example, if you're more submissive in the relationship, he'll step up into a more dominant role. if you're the more confident, dominant type, he'll naturally follow your lead. I think he probably just craves validation and is therefore down for just about anything 😭

7 - What annoys them the most about their partner? Would they change it if they could?

Ooh juicy. They’re overall each other’s biggest champions and have always believed in each other, often standing alone in that. But I do think Brittany can get too carried away and fly too high in the clouds and Santana puts her foot down when she needs to, e.g. the wedding superstitions. Despite how much Santana loves Brittany, I think she sometimes wishes Britt was more practical and realistic about things. I don’t think she’d change this as such but maybe tone it down.

Similarly, Brittany has called Santana out when she was getting too mean before. Though it must be noted that I think Santana’s venom only bothers Britt when she sees it starting to destroy Santana from within, not when others fall victim. But it’d be such a cheesy answer if I said Brittany was most annoyed by Santana not loving herself enough lol. That is what season 2 is though, partially.

I don’t think Britt would want to change Santana’s spirit and maybe not even tone it down like I said the other way around. I don’t know, they only thing I see her minding is Santana not seeing her own awesomeness. But Britt would probably be annoyed by some smaller things, domestic stuff.

13 - What do they do for fun? Do they have a favorite activity or do they like to switch things up?

I swear I’ve been asked to think about this before but that’s mostly just a note to myself about not remembering shit I’ve said and generally being bad at headcanons like this. In the high school days, they would hang out at the mall and go driving, anywhere and everywhere. Once they get the chance to they mix it up all the time with just a few details remaining the same. Never a boring day with them.

16 - Do they keep secrets? Lie? Cheat?

Considering they broke up to prevent even the possibility of cheating on and therefore hurting each other, that last part is a hard no. I’m very firm on this, Brittana would sooner break their own heats and separate than cheat. The most I could ever see happening is a kiss, which is a form of cheating but they would be upfront about it. Even that is a stretch tbh. Brittana have cheated on other people and that’s not any less wrong but cheating on each other is unfathomable.

Secrets? Yes, maybe. More innocuous ones, white lies designed to spare the other’s feelings. And maybe even more severe ones that do inevitably lead to lies. But not regularly and not without consequences. After the mess of season 2 they take being honest seriously and they’re both naturally blunt people anyway.

29 - How do the handle disasters or emergencies? Minor injuries? Sickness?

I don’t want to think about serious sickness so if we’re talking a cold or the flu, they’d both be really good caretakers. As for minor injuries, they’ve been treating scrapes and such since the Cheerios days and are good at healing kisses and the like. If we’re keeping with Glee’s tone emergencies wold have whacky endings with them, but in a more serious world it really just depends.

37 - How much would they be willing to sacrifice for the other? Any lines they refuse to cross?

I don’t think they have lines when it comes to each other. Maybe in their own ways but they’d go to the ends of the earth. I don’t see a version where either of them wouldn’t be happy to give it all up if it meant staying together. I’m struggling to think of a line they wouldn’t cross lol. Murder’s easily on the table for these two let’s be honest.

38 - What are they like in the bedroom? Any kinks/fetishes/turn-ons? Anything they won’t do?

Juicy juicy. I feel like this could be its own thread lol and not just by me but, to cut it short, I will say that I don’t think they do threesomes nearly as often as people think they do, if ever. Not for the reason most of the fandom says they don’t, which is that Santana would be too jealous. I think she’d be fine, honestly. Emotional intimacy means more to her and she knows Britt only loves her. It’s just that they were objects for the male gaze for so long that I doubt, once settled, they’d wanna invite others in. Their thing is their thing. That’s not to say they’ve never entertained the thought of one of the Glee girls joining in.

In terms of what they do do, can I just say everything lol. Okay maybe not everything. But they’re pretty adventurous with high sex drives. Brittany canonically has a thing for arm pits and we’re just gonna leave that there. Santana’s a bottom? But that’s nothing new to anyone in the fandom.
