i have a genuine question. i promise i am not at all trying to defend him. ive dropped him entirely, literally deleted everything i had of him and unliked his songs.
ive just been wondering like considering that he has been in therapy, and also considering how if he does take a year off and then comes back, why cant it be redeemable? like cant people change? cant we give them second chances? he is 27. is he just doomed to be an abuser forever?
its just scary and im asking as like a younger person who is in my very early 20s. i know ive made mistakes. i know ive not been a good partner or friend sometimes. (and yes i was also abusive to a past partner...im not proud of it and ive learned from it. i have never ever touched anyone in that way after that. it took awhile but my current relationship isnt toxic and i would never hurt anyone or hit them again yknow?) and it scares me that people keep insinuating that he is irredeemable. like cant abusers change and become better? dont they get second chances? if shelby has grown and healed in 10 months wouldn't it be fair to say the same for wilbur?
im just genuinely asking because based on everything i believe you are older than me and im looking for guidance and just...idk im scared. growing up on the internet has made me so scared of making mistakes and doing anything wrong because when it happens to others i look up to, its always treated as something they'll never be able to change or improve. makes me feel like imma just be a horrible person forever because i made mistakes in the past.
This is a really complicated question that multiple answers can validly fit.
I don't think, personally, that anyone is irredeemable. I think everyone is on a journey of forgiveness and some of us may need more grace than others.
This is tw// abuse even more than the current topic, but my mom was incredibly abusive. We lived in a very rural area and she had a lot of undiagnosed problems and trauma of her own that created a pressure pot of issues. After I was born, she suffered through full on post-partum psychosis that nearly ended about as well as that sentence implies it could have. She was incredibly violent, controlling, and cruel for years. My sister went no-contact with her the second she turned 18. A significant event occurred that eventually spurned her into seeking real treatment that lasted for years. It's still ongoing.
My sister is also still no contact and I support her decision 100%. Those are her wounds and what she needed to do to get peace should be respected. I decided I wanted a relationship with the person who came out of all that work and, even then, it's been hard. I don't know if she's redeemed herself, and my god do we still have bumps in the road, but I support her for trying.
With Wilbur, how he responds to this is going to really impact a lot of things. I mean, I know no matter how he responds I won't be going on whatever journey of redemption and healing he has to go through. I'm tired and I feel hurt enough. I would think, if he wanted to show he was sincere, admitting what happened would be a great sense of closure for a lot of people who put time and energy and faith into this guy for years.
Not every person that causes harm is inherently evil, but there has to be some kind of knowledge that you're aware of the harm you've caused. No one is stuck as anything forever, life is constantly moving, and most people aren't saying his life is just over. You can work on yourself. You can change. And I'm saying that specifically to you, anonymous.
(Saying this, actually, there ARE people who would argue once you've done x you're beyond redemption based entirely on their life experiences as a victim, personal histories and many other factors. Kinda like my sister, that's their choice. And you have to accept that sometimes you fuck up so badly that you will permanently lose some people from your life. But your life isn't over.)
But I do think, regardless of what he says or does about this, his time of controlling a large platform is at an end. He can still do a lot of things in his life after he works on himself -- editing, song producing, directing, writing or whatever -- but being in charge of a large impressionable audience that could enable more destructive behaviors is just not it.

Excuse Me, Barmaid, I’m Afraid You Brought Me the Wrong Hero
EDIT: MASTERLIST
***
Okay, so... Mayyyyybe Dash should have thought this through. And, Dash would like people to know that he was doing all this out of the goodness of his heart. Phantom was becoming... Tired. Everyone could see it. Even the wacky Fenton parents noticed it, doubling their efforts to catch the only ghost that could defend their home.
And, well, when you find an old book from your grandma's that tells you how to summon heroes, who wouldn't take that chance to help their local hero? At least, until Phantom gets better.
So, yeah. Dash wanted a hero who wouldn't get overshadowed. He wanted a hero who had the might of the gods. He wanted a hero who could also be just a regular person, able to blend in with the crowd.
"Hey, do you have any more food?"
Dash wanted to bash his own head against the wall. Because he didn't summon a hero. He summoned a scrawny, 12-years-old kid who looks like he was randomly picked up from the streets!
His mom cooed at the child.
"Yes, you're welcome to have more, sweetheart."
"Thank you, Mrs. Baxton!"
Yeah, this kid certainly isn't a hero if he's easily stealing all of his mom's love and affection like that.
His mom pinched his cheeks, commenting how polite the child is, before getting started with the dishes.
****
HAHAHHAHAHAHAHA 😂😂😂
I LOVE summoning fics and ideas!!! 💙 And because I love them, I wanted to change things around a bit! What if it's the local Amity Parker that ends up summoning heroes from another world/universe? (or they could be in the same universe if you'd like!) HERO SUMMONING!
- Dash ended up summoning Billy Batson, who could pass as Danny's little brother if the Fentons were willing to take him in.
- But the kid, for some reason, doesn't hate him for summoning him and wants to stay with Dash.
- Dash's parents are even considering adopting the kid! As if Dash brought the kid into their home out of the goodness of his heart. (Technically, he did. 😂)
- "Oh, Dash, sweetie. This reminds me of the time you said you wanted a little brother because you found out that little Danny was actually the same age as you!"
- "Mooooom! You promised not to talk about that!"
- "Correction: your dad promised. And I will abuse my power to tease you endlessly!"
- At first, Billy did this to annoy Dash. He knows a bully when he sees one. He also wanted to see how far he could go in annoying Dash before he gets kicked out by him. But as time with the Baxters’ goes by, Billy finds that he's become very fond of this summoner who's slowly becoming like his big brother. Being annoying didn’t feel like a ‘how far could i get away with this’ but has now turned into small teasing between siblings, it was... kinda great...
- But, when Billy encounters his first ghost attack, he suddenly knew exactly why he was summoned. It could have been Superman, or Batman, or Zatanna, or even Wonder Woman! But being the Champion of Magic gave him access to the Infinite Realms, not enough to traverse it, but to at least receive contact from it.
- And so, with a loud SHAZAM! he turns into Captain Marvel and fights alongside the upcoming King to the Ghost Realm.
- Dash... He just witnessed the most insane de-transformation of his life. When lightning struck near his home, he got worried about his parents and, dare he say it, his new little brother. (Dash saw the adoption papers. But also, the kid was growing on him. He gradually stopped being a bully when Billy thought of how cool Dash was, like he was a white Victor Stone or whatever. It made him want to be better, especially when those eyes were genuinely impressed with him. It made it all the better when Danny was weirded out by his character development.)
- But when he saw the newest Hero, Captain Marvel, the very example of what a hero should look like, should act like, and should be like, transform back into his little brother, so many questions started filling Dash's head. Was Billy actually an adult? Or was Captain Marvel really just a child?
- Dash really did summon a hero.
- Dash confronts Billy, because there was no way Dash would be able to pretend he didn't see anything.
- The more Billy talked, though, the more Dash felt... panic rising in his chest. He summoned a hero, yeah, but the hero is an ACTUAL KID who TRANSFORMS INTO AN ADULT.
- That's not what makes him panic, though. What does is that he became so attached to this scrawny kid who keeps raiding his secret sweets stash, who keeps stealing his parents' affection, who Dash has to visit his room at night because he seems to be the only one who can quell the kid's nightmares.
- The newest hero is his kid brother. His annoying little brother. His newest precious little brother who laughs and smiles at him, and calls him the coolest when he manages to throw the football so many meters away.
- It's not about Phantom anymore. Dash needs to be there for his brother.
- He comes to a realizatiom that maybe, maybe, all this time Phantom didn't need another hero to help him. Maybe, all he needed was people who cared to just back him up and give him support. Give him encouragement that he was doing great. That what he was doing was appreciated.
- Because Billy seemed to get better and better when he was told how good he was being in this hero gig. How relaxed and relieved he was when he realized that Dash wasn't going to leave him alone in helping Phantom.
- So, Dash also tells Phantom what he said to Billy, that he has Phantom's back. Phantom didn't seem convinced, most of all Manson and Foley. But Phantom takes it, especially when Dash was being genuine about it.
***
- And then there's Wes. Nosy and annoying, and bordering on stalkerish. Maybe he might be right about Phantom being Danny Fenton, but he really needs to leave his little brother alone. Dash won't hesitate falling back to old habits if he won't stop.
- "Why are you so calm about all this, Billy?"
- "Oh, well, Batman was more of a stalker than Wes is. Oracle and Red Robin, Batman's hero partners, are actually scarier because they thrive in this. The way he's going about it is actually pretty cute, in comparison."
- Cute? "We need to do something about how desensitized you are about this."

The thing is that it's only you and me that feel embarrassed for them. Their fans are excited. Can you believe it? And while I understand that this is something she always wanted while growing up in California, that was her dream to be a celebrity. What about him, is this the life he wanted? Because they are reality stars. They are actually filming their selfs in what was supposed to be their private life and sell some products. That is actually what instagram influencers doing it. They pose, they hug, they kiss, they dress for the cameras he supposedly hates so much. It is stupid to think that paparazzi won't follow you if you give too much of your self. Actually I'm satisfied for this because the more they act like that the more I hope Carlitos won't publicly take them back.
On the other hand it's impressive how they hope/they still do they would be part times royals while they sell Jam or that of all his activities as royal he would stuck with polo. I had no idea what polo was before royals, I only knew water polo; and I don't know how a polo show will catch audience, even though I believe Netflix doesn't care for the audience now. Netflix wanted their personal document, they gave 100 m for that. And now they will shoot what project they want to reach the 100m for cost and their payment. The CEO had said they are good at taking attention and so they use that attention.
I also want to point out how I don't remember him playing so much polo before, unless he did it younger and I didn't follow him. It seems to me that he isn't satisfied with his life and doing constantly what brings him joy/reminds him of his old life 🍵
I think for their fans, it's a matter of pride and not wanting to admit the truth or the reality about their favourites. They've invested so much time in defending them, saying how wonderful they are, how they'd be billionaires in no time, how they'd be bigger than the monarchy, etc., etc. And now that they've ended up selling jelly and hosting a show about the most elitist sport in the world, they can't say anything. I genuinely want to believe that they're privately ashamed of these people and regret every day that they left the monarchy. I genuinely choose to believe that.
Everything those two do contradicts everything they've complained about. I still can't get over the amount of private moments they shared on that reality show. Moments we would have never known about if they hadn't done that.
The way they have no direction. How they've jumped from idea to idea or from topic to topic. It's embarrassing.
And in the end, all they have is… jelly and a show about polo. Polo?! Out of all the things they could have talked about, they chose polo? What happened to the documentary that el pendejo was supposedly going to film in Africa? That would have been more… meaningful at least.
They, especially him, are lost. He clings more and more each day to the fact that he's a prince and therefore must act and work like one. As for her… She still doesn't understand how all of that works. Raquel still sees the monarchy or being part of the monarchy through the Hollywood lens.

@cliozaur included a wonderful image of the giant key used as a weapon in their post! The proportions are hilarious. (There's great analysis there, too, so please check it out!)
Patron Minette is a troupe, but not a well-organized one (at least, when Jondrette/Thénardier is in charge). Their 'ambush' begins with this:
"“Where is Montparnasse?”
“The young principal actor stopped to chat with your girl.”"
The lead didn't bother to show up! He got distracted! And by the time they're having this conversation, M Leblanc/Jean Valjean can tell something's wrong, so they can't stall until Montparnasse appears. They have to put on a show without their principal actor, which isn't a great starting point.
I love how Jean Valjean is surprised but not scared, because he knows his strength can get him out of this. @secretmellowblog has a great (and funny) post about his cleverness here, too, with his politeness and dishonesty being both strategic and effective compared to Thénardier's. Still, the reason for his calm is devastating:
"“You are wretches, but my life is not worth the trouble of defending it.""
He's able to remain calm in part because he's so used to living with constant stress that these kinds of emergencies are almost easier (as they are familiar) to deal with, but he's also calm because he doesn't value his life and he knows that Cosette is safe. He does more harm to himself than the ambushers do to him, and while it is an effective way of scaring and shocking them, it illustrates his unfortunate acceptance of martyrdom, too. His life only has value to him through Cosette, and although it's wonderful to see how much happier he's been with their love as part of his life, his lack of self-worth remains concerning. Thénardier is far from his equal in strength and wit, and that's also a big part of why this ambush is a mess, but "Valjean can't be hurt because he doesn't care what's done to him" is a horrible reason for an ambush to fail (from the perspective of caring about the characters - unfortunately, it's good writing, because his lack of self-worth is a very consistent aspect of his character).
And of course there's the shocking turn of this chapter: the mysterious man and M Jondrette are actually Jean Valjean and M Thénardier! (The Jean Valjean twists are rarely surprising because he's always just a sad strong man and he's often described by others, but I will give Hugo credit for Thénardier being less obvious, if still quite recognizable). But now Marius is having a crisis! Trapped between honoring his father and saving the man he respects for being the father of his love, he doesn't have a clear path that would satisfy him personally, nor is he going to be decisive in the way Javert told him to be. In a way, his issue stems once again from his idolization of people. His father was a good person overall, but even a good person can misjudge someone! His intention (help the person who saved his life) was good when he made this demand of his son, but he didn't really know Thénardier; in fact, their entire interaction was a lie, with Thénardier saving him by accident and really having tried to rob him. Marius, however, can't see his father as someone with limitations, nor can he surrender his notions of honor. Consequently, he can't fully process that abandoning his obligation to Thénardier would be the best course of action. He's definitely distressed by his behavior (and understandably so), but in a way that leads to crisis and nearly 'madness,' not to a change of heart.
Thénardier himself reveals a lot about his personality with how he reads Jean Valjean. Seeing his charity as part of a 'goody-goody air' and his earlier poor dress as an attempt at manipulating people through pity highlights his own scheming nature and cynicism, as he can't imagine anyone having a genuine commitment to charity. To him, the practice must be inherently paternalistic, a way to bolster one's own status or feel good about oneself without really giving that much (see his critique of bringing a too-large coat and two blankets alone). And he has a point about the limitations! Those items really can only do so much to help his family! And Valjean's charity does have its problems! As Fauchelevent pointed out, he maintains a distant sort of benevolence, and while he doesn't mean to be paternalistic (he's trying to live up to his image of a good person and is distant to stay safe, and he's also not great at social interactions), that he comes across that way is an unintended consequence of his avoidance of relationships with those he helps. The Thénardiers aren't a great example of this - as the Jondrettes, he'd just met them - but there's still some truth there. There just isn't malice or self-interest in the way that Thénardier assumes there is.
Here, rather than use class stereotypes to his advantage, Thénardier reveals a sense of class entitlement:
"Just see here, Mister millionnaire: I have been a solid man, I have held a license, I have been an elector, I am a bourgeois, that I am! And it’s quite possible that you are not!”"
Having been bourgeois once, it hurts him to lose that status, and not just for the painful poverty that he now lives in. Part of his status seems to have been political ("an elector"), but it was also about being "above" others. From his interaction with Valjean at the inn in Montfermeil, he suspects that he's not who he claims to be (which is true, but he feels angry about this in a class-based way). He saw Valjean as a possible criminal who had gotten rich through crime, and who was hiding his wealth because of its suspect origins. His hatred of Jean Valjean, then, comes from the belief that he was a poor man who came to live above his class (the opposite of what's happened to him) and likely from jealousy, as he's better at crime than he is (and Thénardier has been scheming since he was an innkeeper, so even if he wasn't an actual criminal then, he's always been close enough to recognize the skills involved. In fact, as a bourgeois, he simply used these skills in a more socially acceptable way, employing them to 'defend' his business from 'unsavory' customers like Valjean).
On a brighter(?) note, Javert's entrance at the end of this chapter is amazing. He's so dramatic! But Javert showing up is also never a good thing, and everyone here (except Marius) has very good reason to fear the police, and sympathetic reasons, too. Jean Valjean is the most obvious, but even the Thénardiers are just as likely to be arrested for circumstances beyond their control (poverty) as they are for violence, and the less-guilty Thénardiers (Mme Thénardier and, even more so, her daughters) would be especially vulnerable to imprisonment. She's ill, Azelma is injured, and Éponine seems to be the one supporting the family financially a lot of the time (or at least the one going out and searching for money). Since we're seeing things from Marius' perspective, Javert can seem almost 'cool' (and he's funny on his own anyways). But Javert only cares to enforce the status quo, which is cruel to everyone in this room of the Gorbeau House regardless of how they behave.

i've been having some discourse thoughts recently and going back and forth, and I don't really have a final conclusion at the moment so I'm just writing it out to try and make sense of it. I am not intending to get into heated arguments or cause problems, I'm genuinely just trying to question thoughts and beliefs I've been holding to that i picked up from others to be certain whether or not they're solid and I want to continue in that manner because reflection, introspection, and critical thinking are good practices. and posting it because consulting and engaging with others and perspectives outside your own is helpful. so don't mind me trying to sort myself out it's a genuinely earnest attempt to properly reason it through
the crux of it is that I realized it seems hypocritical of me to say I firmly believe in shipping and letting ship, supporting fiction's right to be fucked up and unhealthy, controlling your own experiences, for people to do what they want with fiction because fiction is not reality and should be a safe space where you can explore fucked up things, agree that policing what you can and can't do with fiction is a dangerously slippery slope, and then also turn around and condemn wylinh/wylinh shippers
I don't like the ship myself, I've made numerous posts discussing why I find it harmful--the main thing being its an adult x minor ship (Alden and Della's relationship is completely different, do not bring it up here as a counterargument. you can ask me to explain further if you don't understand). But people are allowed to engage with things that would be harmful or predatory or questionable or etc. in fiction; it's fake. People have said it before, but writing about murder doesn't mean you want to commit murder and all that.
So then since its okay to ship fucked up things because this is fiction, the problem with wylinh seems to become that people ship it in the same manner they do other ships without adult/minor dynamics, not with the understanding that it's got questionable elements. That it's okay to ship fucked up things but you have to do it a certain way that I think is acceptable (you have to know its not really healthy irl), and I don't think that's a mindset I want to have? That people's shipping needs to meet a standard I set? Even if I don't like it? I'm not arbitrator I don't get to decide those kinds of things for others, I just get to decide for me
And another big argument that's been made (including by me) is that children/young teens read these books and find fandom spaces even if they're not supposed to be here, and that that exposure could normalize a harmful age dynamic. Because while Wylie and Linh may be lovely people, they're fictional and it's not reflective of how an age gap like theirs would look irl and children could end up missing red flags of predatory people in real life by thinking of it like idealized fiction. But think of the children rhetoric is one that has been often criticized as cover for more malicious intentions (such as in politics) with the convenient safe fail that if you disagree, you must not care about children.
Part of the critique of that rhetoric is also that the actions being defended don't actually help or protect children. So I'm now wondering, does trying to stop (I can't think of a better word at the moment) wylinh shippers actually achieve that goal of protecting impressionable kids from idolizing an unrealistic relationship, or does it just motivate them to hide it and not trust the people who are, to them, unjustifiably criticizing them?
Wylinh is a widely disliked ship in the fandom, and that's okay, we're all allowed our opinions including negative ones. I just feel as though I'm contradicting myself on some points and want to straighten them out for myself. I don't like Wylinh, I don't ship it, I don't engage with any Wylinh content because of the aforementioned reasons. But my personal dislike shouldn't shape fandom spaces and others' actions, and making sure people are shipping things the "right" way feels like a much more harmful slope.
And if the best course of action to align with that is to just focus on myself, not engage with what I don't like, and politely share my thoughts without forcing them on others or trying to control their actions when the opportunity arises (though maybe this isn't the best course of action, there may be others), that makes this whole post feel redundant because that's...already what I'm doing. I suppose this is just to change my internal perspective not my outward actions? My intentions?
There's no real final conclusion to this, it's just me going "hmm, I've been criticizing wylinh shippers for shipping what I think is a harmful ship, but I also believe in shipping and let ship and allowing fiction to explore harmful things and not controlling others. can these co-exist or do I have to rethink something?"
and I think the answer is I have to rethink something? and that something is criticizing people for shipping wylinh. i still maintain my critiques and dislikes of the ship, but that's a separate thing. i find it more important to maintain and respect individuals right to engage with fiction of all sorts how they want to, without control from others
there's probably a million ways to negatively misinterpret things I've said, so just know all of this is genuine reflection made in good faith. i am earnestly trying to figure it out, and if anyone has input or opinions or perspectives they'd like to share you're welcome to, provided its also in good faith.
alright cool that's all, please do not be mean to me as I try to be a better person because I know its a discourse heavy topic :)

Hey if you’re doing that ship thing….. Justin Hammer and Emil (or) Emil and Jen
Oooooh I will do both lol!
Justin and Emil
Ship It
1. I have complex feelings for this ship bc I also really like them as just platonic shitty best friends but when I do ship them I think they're very cute together in a lowkey toxic way. 😂 What made me ship them was thinking that they're essentially the evil version of the science bros ship (Bruce and Tony) and how funny it would be at how horrified Bruce and Tony would be if these two dumbasses who are both convinced they're Bruce and Tony's arch rivals started dating. And then I actually got attached to the ship, it started off as mainly crack 😂. Another big attractor was chatting with you about your Justin and Emil bc they've got some wonderful chemistry going on in your rewrite 🤧
2. My favorite thing about the ship is how opposites attract it is lol. Since we've got smarmy, fancy, CEO asshole meeting super soldier actual (reformed) nutcase who mutated himself into a monster for fun. The opposites but then also the similarities bc at the end of the day they're both wildly insecure with enormous egos and they're both sluts for money and attention. Like I feel they'd be 10/10 conmen together once they're both out of jail 💀 But those similarities also can allow for some softer parts in the relationship too bc they understand each other better than anyone else what it means to throw your life away for a revenge fueled whim and wind up taking the fall for even the stuff that WASN'T their fault. Also definitely still not being over the people that drove them to such lengths in the first place. Like they def talk mad shit about Tony and Bruce together. It's healing 🤗
3. Unpopular opinion is probably just shipping them in general agssgshdhfhf, neither of them are very popular lmao but that's why i like them. The rare pairs are always the best 😭
Jen and Emil
Ship It
1. These two make me feral, I love them so much. 😭 The She Hulk show made me ship them bc I really enjoyed how much these two genuinely seemed to grow attached to each other. Emil seems so appreciative of Jen helping him and then at the end there's the moment he protects her from the Intelligencia guys. 🥲🥲 And then Jen similarly becomes attached to him, she takes him up on his offer to come back to his ranch anytime if she feels she needs a break from the real world and then she is legit hurt that mans has been violating his parole behind her back. 🤧 I think she wants him to be better than he is willing to currently try to be, he's working on things still 💀, which just adds another layer to their relationship. I like to think if Emil has any shot at being actually redeemed in the MCU it's going to be through how he cares about Jen which just warms my heart so much. And while mans can be an asshole he's always been nothing but kind to Jen and she absolutely deserves a guy who's going to treat her well 🥲🥲🥲
2. My favorite things about the ship are how soft it allows them both to be. And also the angle of how Bruce is gonna handle it bc him being okay with Jen defending Blonsky in court is a lot different than this dude dating his cousin 😒😒😒 🤣 But mainly for Emil and Jen I just really love the idea of a more romantic relationship being a very good thing for them both. I think IF there is a person Emil will be less selfish for in canon it's probably going to be her (unless Nadia winds up being introduced in the MCU) and I think Jen would do well with being with someone that's going to move heaven and earth for her bc in She Hulk currently she's still pretty insecure when it comes to dating due to prior shitty experiences. I want her to be loved fr fr 🥲🥲 And then again, also the funnier side of things where there's the possibility of them being a couple but on opposite sides bc there's a lot of shenanigans that could ensue from that, like at some point mans will need to get a new lawyer if he doesn't shape up 😂.
3. Unpopular opinions uhhhh probably considered so by anyone who thinks that Jen can do better than Emil, which she definitely can lmfao but again, I've not seen many people also ship this, only a handful and most people who ship it seem just as in it for the vibes as I am so I'm not sure if I have any unpopular opinions for it 😂
Thank you for the ask!! Sorry for going off on a whole ass rant 🤣❤️

“In that instant, he felt no terror. He only felt that he could create terror” (4). So the Bile makes you feel more arrogant-esque emotions in the moment instead of getting a small taste of your animal’s powers.
Chapter 2
Greenhaven is described as “a sprawling stone castle built on top of a waterfall” . . . how do you build a castle on a waterfall???
“Four knots in the strands symbolized sun, fire, water, and wind” (6). I think it’s interesting they skipped the traditional fourth element, earth, in favor of “sun”.
“ . . . she’d been recruited by people who were secretly in cahoots with the Devourer . . . ” (6). The writing style seems less formal than the first book already??? Like the words “cahoots” would definitely not have appeared in the first book. I guess it makes sense, given that they are all written by different authors.
Also, this book is the first time the Devourer’s followers are referred to as Conquerors.
“ . . . she donned the green cloak that meant she had sworn to defend Erdas” (6). Three of the four main characters are Greencloaks, yet we still don’t know how the initiation ceremony works. Do they just hand you a green cloak and say “Cool, you’re one of us now”?
“Abeke felt the Greencloaks’ eyes . . . she knew what their responses would be” (9). Abeke overthinking what she thinks the Greencloaks would tell her is so trauma-coded. Also, for some reason I remember the Greencloaks being a lot more angry than they actually are.
“A portrait of a girl smiled at her from one wall, while a mural of a man leading dozens of unfamiliar animals through a field covered another” (11). Who are these people? I feel like I should remember them. The original Greencloak leader? Finn’s family?
“Rollan . . . frowned at her” (12). I mentioned this in my Wild Born reread, but he seemed fine with her and her choice at the end of the first book. (Though he did seem out of character.)
“‘This one won’t scratch up your noble hands.’ Meilin smiled prettily. Removing the frying pan, she handed it to him. ‘And here’s one for you. Doesn’t require much brains to figure out how to use it.’ Rollan pretended to bow” (14). Just kiss already.
“Meilin sat on the shoulders of her opponent, the silk handkerchief wrapped around her assailant’s eyes” (16). Meilin defeating her opponent in ten seconds be like:
“‘Sorry!’ Abeke said. He looked confused. ‘For what?’ ‘For this!’ . . . Abeke thrust the broom bristles into the swordsman’s face” (16). Abeke is once again slaying with the whole talk-to-distract-someone-during-a-fight thing.
“They don’t trust me, Abeke thought” (18). But this is just practice??? All it's going to do is get them scolded by Tarik.
Chapter 3
Definitely more italics in this book.
Dawson’s handwriting looks like Devin’s but jigglier. Canon.
“‘I’m sure they’ll be all right,’ . . . ‘Giving you up to Briggan is just their sacrifice to save Erdas’” (25). The cook (and the Greencloaks by extension) are literally so manipulative? I don’t remember this detail at all from my first time through. They won’t even spare some food for a starving family???
Chapter 4
“Meilin traced her finger to Zhong. It wasn’t very far at all. No wonder Zhong was the first to be attacked” (26). Nilo is closer to Stetriol, though? Unless you count the Hundred Isles as part of Zhong (which it technically is . . . ), but still mainland Zhong is way farther than Nilo.
“Meilin dragged her finger from Zhong to Eura. It seemed like a much farther distance than Stetriol to Zhong” (26). Are we looking at the same map??? Genuinely am wondering whether we’re about to find out that the map Meilin is looking at is inaccurate or something.
“She wasn’t surprised the others were slower” (27). Woah, that’s Rollan-in-the-first-book levels of passive-aggressiveness.
Meilin: My father taught me how to pack. Meilin a page later, out loud to Rollan: Actually, I taught myself.
“‘Four tutors taught you how to fold your clothing’” (28). The beginnings of the iconic tutor inside jokes.
I like that they have Meilin’s outlet be anger. It’s too much of a stereotype that girls have crying as their outlet, especially East Asian ones.
“The servant, the orphan, the traitor, and the warrior who had given up war” (29). They really changed so many things about Meilin from the first book. She’s already angrier, whereas in the first book she was somewhat emotional, sure, but mostly she was logical and composed. And in the first book, she was confident, but not quite arrogant. But I guess it's understandable, considering Zhong fell.
I forgot Finn didn’t fight for like the first 85% of the book.
“Jhi would have looked right at home with that public Meilin” (31). Word choice: they used looked instead of been.
“‘My bond is fine,’ Meilin replied crisply” (31). *sounds of laughter ensue*
“‘Opposites,’ Finn said. ‘But both part of the same whole’” (33). So the yin-yang symbol is supposed to be a representation of balance between an animal and a human in a bond?
“‘I was supposed to accomplish so many great things’” (33). All because of a legend? Finn’s panther wasn’t even a Great Beast.
FINN BONDED NATURALLY??? How did I forget that . . .
“Drums gathered near paintings that had to do with earth and objects made of leather and wood. String instruments were near metal sculptures and mirrors and paintings of water. Woodwinds, paper objects, and anything having to do with air seemed to be grouped together” (36). This is the second time three of the four major elements have come up in this book. Also, it’s kind of funny earth isn’t called erdas.
“You’ve made the wise decision, [Meilin’s father] said, instead of the smart one” (37). This book has some bomb lines.
Chapter 5
“ . . . one of the whales called to the other. It was a hollow, echoey sound that seemed both very close and very far” (39). Kind of like Abeke to the other three kids.
“‘That’s basically the beginning, middle, and end of it, anyway: homeless guy, rat, magical falcon. Happy ending’” (41). He forgot about the homeless guy’s bet.
“‘A fool’s better than a traitor’” (41). Inej Ghafa would disagree.
Rollan semi-understands Abeke now???
THE ICONIC ROLLAN-HORSE RIVALRY BEGINS.
“Now he had stopped worrying about meals and was instead concentrating on getting a smile out of a snotty general’s daughter” (44). LMFAO.
Everyone acts like it’s shocking to see a bunch of people with spirit animals outside the Greencloaks . . . which would make sense, given that it’s rare . . . except for the fact that they already faced a bunch of people with spirit animals in the last book and had no such reaction. Another way the tone changes from the first book to the second book.
Rollan calls a horse a “grass-burning chump”. No comment.
“‘Where’s your sense of loyalty, horse?!’” I imagine him clipping the horse like he doesn’t want to say the word.
Meilin turning down Abeke’s help . . . okay, girlie.
“‘Unfortunately for you,’ said Rollan, ‘I don’t trust anyone’” (49). Cannot explain how glad I am that Rollan doesn’t let the Conqueror go out of honor or We’re better than you, so we have better morals kind of rhetoric. I hate it when characters do that. It’s just plain stupid.
The snake that bites Tarik: the same kind that bites Olvan in Heart of the Land? Parallel?
“‘Sometimes she pretends to be deaf.’ . . . ‘I am deaf’” (53). HA.
Lady Evelyn repeatedly misnaming Tarik and Finn is giving Dionysus’ Perry Johnson and Annie Bell energy.
“‘Luckily, I never rest and am constantly attentive’” (56), “‘Do you children know what a map is?’” (57), and “‘You’re thinking, that’s far north, and up there they paint their faces blue and eat foreigners’” (57) have all cemented my liking for Lady Evelyn.
Chapter 6
“[Meilin’s] heart was a battlefield” (61). And planets surrounded by moon-choices, apparently.
“‘I was doing fine,’ she retorted, spitting out another glob of dirty grass” (64). Meilin was not like this in the first book. She wasn’t cocky or arrogant, just sure of herself. There are many places in the first book where she admits she needs the help of others??? First book and second book Meilin feel like two different people. And it’s not even because Meilin has an attitude towards Abeke, because Finn was the one who actually pulled her out, and it’s established that Meilin respects Finn. Anyway, from now on, I’ll just accept second book Meilin as canon Meilin.
So Hawkers sell fake Nectar. Not Greencloaks, like Gar mentioned in Wild Born. So the Conquerors are putting just a bit more blame on the Greencloaks than they really deserve. Shady.
“Abeke and Meilin shot irritated glances at each other” (66). At this point, I’ll take the scraps.
“There’s a prophecy that says a boy will bond with the black wildcat and deliver the North from persecution and poverty!” (67). Oh, is that why Finn was supposed to be great? Because of a . . . prophecy?
Also, shouldn’t people have heard that the prophecy has already happened? Sure, Finn bonded naturally in some obscure town, but he also joined the Greencloaks, so word should’ve gotten around that the prophecy was already fulfilled, right?
“‘I think it’s plenty large enough for a house cat’” (68). Meilin is also actually hilarious, you guys. Also, don’t the Hawkers know that spirit animals only come as adults? Maybe the Bile is different?
“Meilin stood over him, pointing his own knife at his throat” (70). Meilin is iconic. Slay, queen.
Chapter 7
“‘My father rudely up and died on me, so I reckon he’s the worse parent’” (74). The competition continues.
“Devin held out his arm. Without a second’s pause, the panther vanished. A tattoo appeared on Devin’s arm” (77). Devin is literally such a show-off. He should’ve kept the advantage to himself.
I definitely don’t remember the town’s children helping Rollan and Conor escape.
Devin’s insults are literally so uncreative, it hurts. Rollan’s are at least good.
Chapter 8
“If someone was going to hurt that boy, she wanted it to be her” (83). Iconic, but also a little toxic?
Okay, it’s heavily implied that Finn was in the Howling House. I don’t remember this . . .
For some reason, I remember Meilin and Abeke overhearing Zerif and Co. while at Glengavin, not Trunswick.
Kind of funny how Zhong’s water dragon was the only “legend” not endorsed by Zerif. And Zhong was also the first continent targeted by the Conquerors.
“The table was quiet, probably because none of them knew what exacerbating meant, including Zerif” (93). Zerif continues to use flowery language to try to make himself seem smarter.
Chapter 9
Why doesn’t Conor let Briggan out once they’re in the cell? It’s not like the guards would know.
“‘What’s wrong with your hands?’” (100). I don’t remember this plot point??? I wonder if it’s important . . .
“Rollan’s voice was tinged with awe . . . ” (102). Aw, are they finally warming up to each other?
“Every spirit animal there turned all attention to the wolf” (107). Okay, so Briggan does have some amount of leadership over non-wolf animals.
Ooh, all the four fighting together first time!
“If they got out of Trunswick alive, he could devote more time to wondering if their absence was due to cowardice or strategy” (110). Our boy’s getting better at the whole leadership thing.
Chapter 10
“Meilin had crossed her arms and turned to stare at him expectantly” (115). I imagine her thinking, HA, loser.
“Meilin didn’t actually smell - Rollan suspected girls sweat - but the panda did have a distinct musky odor” (116). Rollan: Ah, yes, the female species, I do in fact know of them.
“Rollan finished, ‘It’s nice to have such a warm welcome’” (118). Was that a dig at Conor??? I doubt it, but . . .
“‘Rollan, you look clean,’ Meilin said. Her gaze still seemed to linger on him a bit longer than usual, a fact that didn’t bother Rollan a bit” (121). Oooooooooooh. But I’m also pretty sure it’s mentioned that Rollan is good-looking in the first book, so maybe he’s just attractive?
“ . . . Rollan had learned that a smile could sometimes hide wicked thoughts better than a sneer” (123). He literally uses this to his advantage in the first book.
“He noted that there was no Lady MacDonnell in evidence” (123). Who is the kids’ mom then??? She never comes up?
“And he noticed that seat was covered with dust” (123). What if the lord just doesn’t have a spirit animal? Aren’t those rare?
Okay, about Essix getting trapped: Why didn’t the harpist just ask Lord MacDonnell to help with Essix? It’s not like he would’ve just left her there.
I remember on my first time reading through the book, the harpist scene made me so angry, like Lord MacDonnell is so shallow? And I don’t think the harpist ever gets any justice?
Chapter 11
“With a muffled shriek, Meilin leaped from the ground. She pinned Rollan against the wall, her hand against his throat, her hair dripping” (134). I imagine her looking like a demon or something with the hair.
“But he was certain Meilin would never cry while awake” (135). First Abeke, now Conor? Meilin literally cried after Barlow’s death, and both of them and Rollan were there.
Chapter 12
“‘Give up?’ Devin scoffed. ‘Look at our beasts! We’ll take it’” (138). Devin is so cocky it’s embarrassing.
“‘My spirit animal chooses the Greencloaks.’ ‘But is she right?’” (140). Even if she wasn’t a Great Beast, animals do tend to have stronger instincts than humans. And trusting your spirit animal is important regardless, right???
Karmo’s hammerkop can paralyze people??? I guess that makes sense, given it’s called the lightning bird . . .
Chapter 13
“The older man’s expression had gone very un-jolly, but it snapped back into good cheer when he noticed Meilin watching” (144). This guy doesn’t even understand the bond that well??? Or maybe he’s just jealous . . .
While we’re on the topic of last names, it’s interesting that last names seem to be a sign of status in Erdas. Devin Truswick are Lord MacDonnell are the only known people with a last name. I also wonder if Teng is General Teng’s first or last name, because it it’s last that’s another person of high rank that has a last name.
“‘War’s useless if you don’t know how to live with peace’” (145). Oh, I see. He’s one of those smart-but-stupid people.
“But what about those musicians last night? The ones that are now scrubbing pots?” (145). GETTEM, ROLLAN.
“No, Conor, Meilin thought. You’re forgetting Briggan. You can’t take a wolf among the sheep” (146). Something, something, this is a metaphor for how Conor will not be able to be a simple shepherd again after the war, something, something.
Lord MacDonnell is a lot like Devin. Both were “cruel and proud” and sons of lords. Both were disappointed with their outcome at their Nectar Ceremonies. Both became crueler after. And both regretted their actions afterward. Wonder if their relationship after the war could’ve been explored.
How did Abeke tie “Help. Devin hunts Rumfuss” into her bracelet when she was literally paralyzed and without Devin or Karmo noticing?
Chapter 14
“‘Why are we standing here? We’ve got to help her’” (151). Rollan warming up to Abeke???
While Conor is the one to suggest a trade to Lord MacDonnell, Meilin is the one to suggest the hare as the trade. I think it should’ve been Conor, because he had the dreams and it would’ve shown him coming into his own.
Rollan stealing the soldier’s sword is not something I remember happening? Huh.
Chapter 15
Wow, Conor found the hare awfully quickly.
“‘Because,’ Conor said. ‘Do you know what’s on the other side of this wall?’” (159). How does Conor know where they are and Finn doesn’t? Finn canonically has a better sense of direction than Conor. Also, Conor’s never been to Lord MacDonnell’s room???
“Well, he reminded himself glumly. You were a shepherd” (161). Now he's getting it.
Chapter 16
“Abeke thought it had probably been a long time since he’d spoken to any humans” (165). That literally goes for just about any Great Beast. Also, can Great Beasts speak any language? Probably.
“Devin had snuck Conquerors into Glengavin” (167). Right, but how?
Chapter 17
“Jhi was safely in passive state . . . ” (169). During the fight???
Oh never mind, she is being used.
“Then he saw the wolf” (171). Repeating lines from book one???
Chapter 18
Donn is bigger than Elda???
Why didn’t Rumfuss just run Lord MacDonnell over after he refused to let him out?
Chapter 19
What happened to the harpist??? I’m still salty about that situation.
“The second talisman was in Greencloak hands” (181). HA, not for long.
Wait so, that means . . . Conor’s family is free of their debt now??? Huh.
Chapter 20
“Hadn’t she wanted to go to Zhong for her family when she’d had the chance? Hadn’t he been the first to tell her to stay with them?” (184). Does she see him as a hypocrite???
So Meilin leaves even knowing it’s a bad decision.
Meilin forcing Jhi into passive state: so not the way to go, girlie.
“She was going back to Zhong” (185). Is she going to steal a boat or something? Because Greenhaven is on an island . . .
Final thoughts and rating:
I definitely noticed a change in writing style, which makes sense given that it’s a different author. I like that they decided to have Conor make a hard decision. Without this, the books would be very formulaic: quest for talisman, trials for each of the four to show off skills, talk to Great Beast, battle, return victorious. Making Conor give up the talisman is also a show of morally gray behavior, which I think is great to have in a children’s book series. Meilin going back to Zhong was also definitely a choice that enhanced the story. This book was definitely a Conor book, it mostly showed Conor having to make hard decisions and learning to become a leader.
I think it would’ve been interesting if the black panther being the second ‘sacred’ animal of Eura was more foreshadowed in the first book? Like they did with the Hawkers? Thought that would’ve been interesting. I also found it strange that nobody realized Finn was the boy of the prophecy. I know he was from a remote town, but still??? Meilin as a character definitely seems more emotional this book, which makes some amount of sense, but she still feels off. It’s also sort of unsatisfying that we never get to see the harpist from Glengavin get her justice. That feels like an unfinished storyline. I know it’s only there for Rollan to express anger at Lord MacDonnell, but a simple one-liner describing Rollan having a short conversation with her and Lord MacDonnell reinstating her to her position would’ve been nice . . .
Rating: 9/10

Sorry to send this random message, but since you like both elvis and taylor I was curious for your opinion. I've seen people comparing would've could've should've to elvis and priscilla's relationship and that they can't wait for videos set to that when the priscilla movies comes out... saying elvis is like the subject of that song stuns me and breaks my heart, but what do you think?
don't be sorry honey! <3 it's such a complex topic and is often misjudged/weaponized with the worst intent, which tends to be unfair to both of them.
prefacing this with priscilla herself saying, “It’s hurtful, for a man who has given so much, to have others pick him apart. I’ll die defending him and his legacy. Because he deserves it.”
also going to refer to this ask from a few months ago.
okay, to be more blunt than i typically am, their relationship overall should not have happened, for a lot of reasons and both their sakes, but i don't like saying that because it erases the love they shared, cilla's agency, lisa marie's existence (and her children's), and the entirety of the life they shared, and i don't think that's right to do. should elvis have turned her down gently and guided her away when they first met? probably! should her parents have put their foot down and told her absolutely not, in no uncertain terms, were they sending her to memphis, and insisted she move on and continue her normal life? yes. she was an emotional young woman who was head over heels in love with one of the biggest stars in the world, and who can blame her, but she would've gotten over it. but that's not what happened. so we have to contend with what did.
elvis was a complicated, sometimes mercurial, often wonderful, man. he had come through extraordinary and extreme events literally from birth, and certainly in the rise of his star, experienced a certain degree of...i don't want to use this phrase, but arrested development?...because of his unusual circumstances. (no judgment on that, i have talked many times about being frozen at 19 because of what's happened in my life, i really empathize with why certain things were difficult and disorienting for him in my own tiny way, just like i, as someone chronically ill, hold empathy for his health too). he was dealing with what i'd categorize not only as profound grief and loneliness following his mother's death, but also compounded trauma for a number of reasons.
i think about the quote from his costar in follow that dream, anne helm, saying he was still such an innocent, "He was surrounded by a lot of people that took advantage of his generosity. It was a more innocent time. I mean, Elvis was -- how old was he? 24, 25? [Actually, Elvis was 26 when the film was shot in the summer of 1961.] He was a baby, and I was, too. We were very young. As much as Elvis was a celebrity, he was a big kid, he was a lot of fun." he had an inherent earnestness and compassion that was guileless.
one of his contradictions here is that, with priscilla, he also had a paternalistic quality where he was looking after her and doing what he thought was best for her. the people who try to frame this as predatory claim he was abusing her, even though that is not how priscilla characterizes it. he had this need to nurture and be nurtured, and he tried to look after her, but he was far from perfect in doing so since his lifestyle wasn't conducive to some of what she needed. that said, he set definitive boundaries with her for a reason. had he been preying on her maliciously, the end goal would've always been exploiting her in some way (namely for sex), but we know he decidedly didn't do that, that in fact she was very frustrated with him because he refused to sleep with her for multiple reasons, and wouldn't until they were married. by which point she was very much a consenting adult.
guiding her look the way he did i don't think he meant to be controlling or harmful, his approach wasn't inherently abusive, it came from genuine care. everyone knew he was pushing it, but they were in love and sometimes no amount of arguing will defy that. he had conflicted feelings about marriage, but i think he really did desire that security of family and love and home, even though he struggled with the commitment of that, and he also never felt wholly seen, safe, or secure in any of his romantic relationships. (this wasn't unique to priscilla, it's a recurring theme). and tbh a lot of that was also likely rooted in trauma, because that has effects on a person.
it's also relevant to note that it was an entirely different time. outrage on the internet prefers to ignore this, but it's vital for context. it may not excuse their initial connection, but by the time she went to memphis, and certainly by the time they got married, their romance and marriage wouldn't have been that unusual. the age gap discourse has gotten REALLY BAD and utterly flattened in a way that ignores all nuance and all particulars of the human beings involved. it doesn't always equate to abuse. it's unkind at the least and dehumanizing at the most to categorize every dynamic that way, and when priscilla herself refutes it and has never called herself a victim, i am not going to categorize him that way. relationships are vast and unique and imperfect, and sometimes people just fall in love! it's not intended for mass consumption or approval by total strangers, especially decades later.
priscilla herself discusses her girlhood and her growth into womanhood, and how much a part of it he was, how he was often many different roles to her. she mentions her naivete, her feelings of unsophistication, and how she grew into herself.
Tumblr media
they both grew and changed. and some of that led them in distinctly different directions. she also mentions how they shared a connection and warmth, that in many ways they found more kindnesses and understanding for one another after they divorced. she, and we, will never know how their dynamic might have continued because his death closed that door forever, but she has grieved and loved him. she's not perfect either, and certainly i don't agree with everything she's done, but i cannot abide vilifying elvis and victimizing priscilla when that wasn't their story. they both deserve better and more understanding than that.
how dare people decide for her that she was deceived or that her girlhood was stolen? how dare people disregard her own words and experience and the love she has for him in such a puerile and vicious way?
taylor's story is HER STORY. she didn't intend for it to be applied to others without their consent, or copy/pasted over other dynamics. what she experienced with john was wholly different. he did take advantage of her in a calculated sense. he did use her youthful worship of him and how enamored she was to manipulate her, and then turned it against her. it wasn't a loving dynamic between them at all - she was in love and he got an ego boost and thought he could also make a conquest. it damaged some of her sense of herself, her approach to sex, love, and relationships, and permanently impacted her in some ways - even if she's healed, she shared that the scars still exist and haunt her. it's nowhere near the same tone that priscilla (nor any woman) uses about elvis. i think it's awfully presumptuous and cruel to decide to boil them down to 30 second fan edits using an extremely raw and personal song written generations later about an entirely different experience.
it's...gross and exploitative, not supportive or sympathetic to cilla. the agenda of it to cut down elvis is transparent. lisa would hate it. i really, really disagree with it and it's just a way to outrage bait. and it breaks my heart too. i know it's going to happen, i'm sure those little tiktoks will be prevalent, but i will not be giving them any credence or attention. i respect them both too much for that, and understand their mistakes and imperfections, and tbh cherish him more as a human, a sensitive and generous soul, and an artist than anyone can ever understand when they try to tear him down.

Do you think that Levi’s relationships with other characters like Hange, his og squad and so on are less important than his relationship with Erwin? I’ve always been a strong defender of the belief that Levi cared about everyone equally and had no “favourites” because I think it’s shown very clearly in both the manga and the anime (especially with the way it ended where we see all his comrades dedicating theirs hearts to him in return) but sometimes, I wonder if Isayama is contracting himself when he talks about Levi in interviews. How he always seems to talk about Levi in relation to Erwin or to the promise and never truly addressed his other relationships, like the farewell scene with Hange which I think is incredibly emotional and could’ve been fleshed out in an interview just like Levi’s decision in the Shiganshina arc was, but maybe Isayama had nothing else to add about that scene, so that’s it. I know that interviews don’t matter and the evidence in the manga and anime is what prevails in the end, but sometimes I can’t help but wonder if truly Levi cared more about Erwin than the others simply because of how much Isayama has mentioned them as compared to the others. I hope my question isn’t redundant but I genuinely love your analyses, you understand Levi’s character perfectly and it’s always a joy to read you, so I’d really like to hear your opinion on this. Maybe the bad side of this fandom has influenced me haha but I just think it’s odd that for a character as complex as Levi who cares about so many people, the author somehow always ends up bringing up the promise in a very Erwin-centric way when we all know the promise isn’t just about Erwin and is actually about basically the entire Survey Corps who died at Shiganshina killed by Zeke. So then of course people are going to assume the promise is just about Erwin if Isayama only seems to bring them up in interviews. As someone whose favourite relationship in this anime is between Levi and Hange, sometimes I wonder if I might’ve been a bit delusional in what I saw, that I’ve given them way too much importance in comparison to how the author actually sees them, and I don’t want to think that all the little details about their relationship like their communication skills or their incredible teamwork mean nothing to the story. I don’t know anymore. I hope I’m making sense and it’s not too long of a rant hahaha but yeah how do you view the author’s stance on Levi now that everything is done?
Hi there, and no worries about the long ask.
Thematically, Erwin is very important to Levi, which is why I assume Isayama has spoken often about their relationship in interviews. I myself have written about Levi's relationship with Erwin probably more than his relationship with any other character, simply because of that thematic importance. It really has nothing to do with Levi caring more about Erwin than anyone else. I can say without any doubt that Levi cared about all his comrades equally, including Hange.
But Erwin acted as Levi's guide throughout much of the story, in terms of him laying a path forward that Levi trusted in and willingly followed. Erwin essentially instilled in Levi the belief that people didn't have to die meaningless deaths. That one could give a person's death meaning by carrying on their legacy and dream, by continuing to fight for their dreams. One has to remember about Levi, he grew up in a world where death was a constant presence in his life, an everyday occurrence he would have had to witness and suffer through. In the Underground, he was, essentially, surrounded by meaningless death. His mother died a meaningless death right in front of him. Kenny taught him that life has no intrinsic value through how callously and casually he took it. There are panels in "No Regrets" where we see people lying in the streets, either dead or dying, likely from disease or starvation, or both. Levi finds Isabel lying in a puddle of sewage, starving to death, before taking her in and saves her life.
So Levi grew up and lived the first years of his adulthood surrounded by pointless, meaningless death, and it no doubt affected him deeply. We see how repulsed by the thought of meaningless death Levi is. It's something he can't abide. It's something he can't tolerate. He wants desperately to save people, to protect them and keep them from harm. His first thought and hope and priority when fighting alongside his comrades is to keep them alive, and we see him express this when he orders them, not asks, but orders them to stay alive. Levi values life more than anything. He believes wholeheartedly in its worth and its importance and its sanctity. He believes completely in the cause of life, in protecting life and nurturing it. He works harder toward that end than anything else.
The problem for Levi, though, is that, as strong as he is, he's never been able to save everybody. He's only one man, and inevitably, it's an impossible task for him to be there for every person who's in danger. Inevitably, Levi is forced to accept that he can't rescue every person who needs his help. He so obviously wants to. But he can't.
And Levi's always wanted to help people. Isayama said himself in an interview that his entire purpose for coming to the surface was because he wanted to help others and find a way to use his strength toward that end. So Erwin didn't instill in Levi his desire to help others and save lives. He didn't instill in Levi the value he regards life with. That's just something innate to Levi's as a person. But, again, what Erwin did instill in Levi was the belief that, even if he couldn't save every life, he could still give meaning, still give purpose to the lives of those he couldn't save. He could ensure their lives and deaths weren't in vain by continuing to fight in their name and for their cause. Basically, Erwin gave Levi a way to help people, even when he couldn't keep them alive. He showed Levi a way to do what he'd always longed to do, and do it in a substantial way, for more than just one or two people, but for hundreds, thousands, even millions of people.
So Erwin is someone who was very important to Levi, on a personal level. He helped Levi to believe that lives didn't have to end in vain, that there could be purpose given to lives lost. Again, it's not that Erwin meant more to Levi than his other comrades, or that his life was worth more to Levi than theirs. It wasn't. But Erwin gave Levi an ability to hope that I think Levi maybe didn't have before. He showed him a way to use his strength to help more people, which Levi had always wanted to do, and a way to cope with the grief of losing those he couldn't save. Erwin, in many ways, was like a guiding light for Levi.
So that's why Isayama talks so much about Erwin and Levi's relationship. It's got nothing to do with Erwin being more important to Levi than anyone else, or anything to do with Levi having romantic feelings for Erwin. It's because Erwin was a very influential person in Levi's life. He helped shape Levi's philosophy of having no regrets. He helped shape Levi's belief that, even when he couldn't save a person's life, he could still help them by giving that person's life and death meaning, doing them honor, by fighting in their name. I think that must have helped Levi immensely in dealing with his own grief and suffering at witnessing people dying. It helped him deal with the pain of not being able to save every person's life.

thank you thank you thank you for defending us. ever since i was little, i have struggled immensely with intrusive thoughts. it’s so scary to wake up everyday and just know i will be faced with horrific ideas in my head and i try my hardest to not get so emotional. but all of my comorbidities make it nearly impossible. so seeing people who don’t think of me as “insane” or “weird” or immediately viewing me as a creep or weirdo genuinely makes me feel so validated.
i have vowed and always have to never go through with the actions that my head plays out aside from my self destructive ones. because i would never ever want to actually hurt someone. and i think that’s something people never realize: that we CAN recognize our thoughts as intrusive and something that goes against our morality. but we are always painted out as sinister beings rather than victims of.. harrowing illness? being trapped in a nightmare?
i experience DAILY distress. there’s a huge difference between someone like me who may want to hurt someone but feels guilt rather than someone who does, and goes through with it. but discrepancies never matter to people who already have a notion that we all are batshit crazy.
i don’t know where this vent is really going, but i thought as someone else who experiences this, it may be good to give a taste as to how it is in the life of someone who goes through this type of thing EVERY SINGLE DAY. please just. listen to us. please stop telling us we’re freaks. i feel like one already and i just want to be told for once that i’m going to be okay
yeah, this is why i hate people so unwilling to bend their ideas a little bit like. you seem like a wonderful person, and i have no reason to hate you just because of the thoughts in your head. i have pocd and other things and some of my thoughts have been too horrible to repeat but i'd never act on them or let them become part of my beliefs and that's what matters. hope you're doing well anon.

Hello!
Sorry if I make some mistakes, english isn’t my first language.
I just wanted to say the broken vow is the best story I’ve ever read in a while. Thank you for producing this masterpiece.
I genuinely had no idea that if your spouse is in long term coma, you can’t get divorced easily, like you have to wait 2-5 years depending on the state you’re in and have medical documents. (Did some research on the topic because I was so curious XD) I thought it would be so much easier, it definitely made me question whether or not coma state falls into the “sickness” part of the vow.
At first, I was sympathizing with the oc only and I perceived jungkook as purely evil. But re-reading it, I realized it’s actually very grey, and from his point of view, he actually went through a horrible betrayal.
I was wondering, if you had in mind to make some drabbles about their life after these events ? Because even though he legally tied her to him and she’s now his wife and can’t leave, there is not much he can do about her actual affections. I really wonder how their everyday life will be. Will she love him like before and forget what happened ? Or will she hold a grudge (understandably) ? How about him, how would he feel is oc is not the lovable wife he once knew ?
Also, can we just talk about how nice you are? Like I see how you reply to readers and you take your time to answer them in the best way possible. <3
Hi!! If there’s someone to whom you don’t need to apologise for any grammar mistakes - that’s me. English isn’t my first language as well, I’ve got you! 🫡
Right? I was also shocked how hard divorce is, if one party is in coma! Apparently the whole ‘in sickness and health’ goes deeper than thought, not to mention if any religious factors are involved - that makes everything 1000 times harder. Great absorvation, anon! (Would it be wrong to say, my writers ego has been boosted tremendously by you searching the information up 🥲)
It is morally a very grey storyline, the complexity of it also shows when MC continues to blame herself for the divorce; her fear of going to the hospital, her inability to defend herself, etc. Sad, considering the only time she sticked up for someone was Tae, and not herself
I’m still playing around with ideas for drabbles, I know that I’d like to make one of how they met/their first year together, but I’m a bit reluctant to write about how their relationship would unfold after the events in the story. To me, their story is more or less complete.
I answered an ask where I explained how their life would be afterward, if you want to, you can read it here; it’s a longer one, but it gives a clear description and some scenarios of what their relationship is like!
I don’t think people expect this, but their relationshiafterwardds isn’t that bad, their biggest problem is that they both suffered trauma, and don’t know how to deal with it/refuse help. At the end of the story I tried to highlight MC’s inner turmoil, where she blames herself for not being able to hate JK; realistically, they didn’t divorce because they were on bad terms, they divorced because MC lost all hope that he’d wake up. And when he woke up she was very confused, she realised she loves both JK and Tae, but ultimately chose Tae because he was her husband, and also - loyalty.
She would not forget what happened, but the fact that her ‘husband’ is still unwell, would make her go into worry mode for a while, and she wouldn’t ignore him when he is so visibly ill. Even more so, JK has the upper hand in all fights, he can easily use his weak body to shut down any conversation he doesn’t want to take part in.
MC has turned from being the lovable wife to the distraught wife; she does care - she cares a lot, but her utmost priority is to make sure JK is well, and not to drown him in affection; this on the other hand infuriates JK like nothing else. I also discussed this in greater detail in the previous ask. All in all, their relationship could work. Still, they both need to see a therapist, and I imagine that going along the lines - they make some progress, the therapist says that MC should have a say in the divorce/marriage, JK absolutely refuses and they're back at square 1. So, a lot of work and not so much patience.
Thank you for the kind words, anon! I do my best - both in writing and answering all the asks/comments. It's important that all of you feel comfortable communicating with me ☺️
Thank you for the ask, best wishes! 🌻

Hellsite Nostalgia Tour 2023 Day 139
Defending Your Life/Cold Blood
Mmmm, so, if it feels like I'm not invested in these episodes because I don't say much, it's because the two small highlights of my day could not go toe to toe with the avalanche of bullshit I had to put up with at work today. Like, no doubt they were nice, but the number of times I got interrupted with one task because people are impatient (read: can't wait more than five LITERAL seconds) and the woman I was working with was slow as hell (like, physically would not do her job with any haste in order to take any amount of pressure off of me who was already helping the greater portion of clients, had to tackle all of the "coming back from vacation" things, AND kept having people bring new issues and items to my desk), so that's gonna be my defense if this is not what it normally is
"Defending Your Life"
Plot Descriptions: Sam and Dean investigate murders of people who have their guilty pasts come back and kill them. Could Dean be next?
Would I Survive the First Five Minutes??: HOW guilty does your past have to be? I'm just saying. We're all guilty of things. How bad do those things have to be to warrant this? Because I don't think I've done anything that would necessitate it
You're right. It IS weird that you're working a normal case. It's been FOREVER.
God. Can't wait for Sam to find out what Dean did to Amy. That'll end well.
How recently did the guy know he was going to die? He paid for three years worth of flowers for the grave of a girl it definitely seems like he accidentally killed. So I guess, it has to be THAT bad.
That dog just teleported through that wall...to kill a dude at a diner. Sure, why not?
How the absolute fuck is this happening?? So. These people go to a random apple farm and a random bar and then all of a sudden, they're marked for death???
Bet it's not a ghost and it doesn't sound like a demon, so I don't think this guy is all that protected
So, is it the bartender or the guy in the baseball cap who got JUST ENOUGH screen time but didn't actually say anything?
Omg Dean...........psyching himself up to potentially get laid. It's......it's kind of adorable, honestly
Ruh roh. Dean got taken...so, it looks like the guy in the baseball cap is Osiris because Sam's on the phone with the bartender
Yeah, I told you that salt wasn't gonna do shit
This is FASCINATING. Do Egyptian gods have to abide by American law?? Sam's trying to play lawyer for Dean, and it's...not going well. He was, after all, just pre law.
Osiris isn't exactly playing fair in this trial with his witness calling and questioning. (Unless he calls Amy...)
Yeah...Dean knows he fucked up there. So now he's been sentenced to die (what else is new for the Winchesters??)
Why would Osiris send Jo to kill Dean when she never blamed him. That's......a lot.
Cool cool cool. Glad we're still keeping this whole Amy thing a secret.
Wonder how that's going to shake out, Sam not feeling guilt about his past anymore...
"Cold Blood"
Plot Description: The Silurians are awake, and angry. The Silurians are preparing for war, a war that could decide who gets to live on earth, The Silurians or-the humans...
Genuinely love how tough Amy acts when she really just got lucky.
It's hard to feel like the Silurian they have captive is wrong...do I like her actions? No. This man had no idea that there was a whole underground civilization that...seems to have been driven there by humans long ago. BUT...her rage is understandable
There's so much set up and it's kind of boring (or I'm tired, who's to say?) but I also can't find it in me to just dictate the action either
Amy and the guy who was taken at the beginning of last episode have found the Silurian army, they're poised for war but they're not doing anything yet.........no one seems to be ACTUALLY DOING ANYTHING. The Doctor's trying to convince someone he's not human, Rory's just apologizing for not being the police (never apologize for that, babes), and another dude is dying of Silurian poisoning.........but they're all moving so freaking slowly
This woman is having one of the worst run of days. My day seems like a walk in the park compared to having your husband and son abducted and your dad poisoned all by the same species who are now trying to wage war on yours.
Yeah...she...fucked it up for everyone. Sure she only used a taser, but damn...you REALLY REALLY fucked up
It does suck that this ONE Silurian wanted the war and orchestrated the start to it.
It's sad watching this negotiation session for a couple reasons: 1. that one lady's actions are going to fuck it all up, and 2. the lady scientist's only concern is how allotting space for the Silurians to come up to the surface to live is what benefit could the possibly bring to humans? And it's giving really gross vibes.
OMG, this woman is the WORST. She's going about all of this in all the wrong ways.
Yeah, I love the optimism here, but it is naive (or I'm cranky). This one kid would be at best made fun of forever for trying to convince people that lizard people live under the Earth's crust and we need to prepare to share the world with them.
Man...if the Doctor hadn't stopped to investigate the crack, Rory would be alive right now

What's your opinion on Vivi? Cos I'm re reading the series and have just finished twk and while she does love her sisters I'm reminded of why I don't like her much there's always something that never struck me right about her mainly it's the whole situation with Heather and how Vivi glamoured her and everything else but also bc of how she deals with her sisters
DISCLAIMER: this post is about defending Vivi Duarte with what little information we are actually given about her, for those who are genuinely open to interpretations on her. if you've made up your mind and do not like Vivi, that's fine, but this is probably not the ask for you!
i love most of the characters in TFOTA. in fact, unless it's Balekin, Valerian, Asha, or Locke, you can be sure i will probably take the time to defend them.
Vivi is funny, outspoken, and (like most HB characters) complex. but i think people's dislike of Vivi is along the same vein as their dislike of Taryn.
both betrayed their sisters in one way or another–Taryn through more obvious modes of betrayal (the Locke situation in TCP and tricking Cardan in TWK), and Vivi through more covert modes (questionable sisterly neglect). but if we look at a person's actions as facts about their character, rather than the result of nuanced motivations, it's easy to dislike them.
i like them precisely because liking them is so much more difficult. not impossible, though—we just have to do a little digging.
I. Words and How They Bind
something very interesting about Vivi that i think is hard to remember for the duration of the series is that, in the prologue of TCP, she vowed to hate Madoc forever:
“'I hate you,' Vivi proclaimed to the tall man with a viciousness that Jude was glad of. 'I will always hate you. I vow it.'”
this isn't something to be taken lightly. it's not a rage-filled but mostly empty threat of a child that can be later assuaged with a few kind words or a handful of sweets. it's a proclamation.
it is explicitly a vow.
to the fae, vows and promises are absolute. just how the people of Elfhame are bound by their word when they pledge themselves to the High King/Queen, or how the fae bind themselves through vows in marriage, Vivi is literally bound to her word.
she will hate Madoc forever.
additionally, it's almost as if she pledged herself to a life of being the opposite of whatever Madoc wants her to be. he wants her to live in Elfhame? she will move to the mortal world when she's old enough. he wants her to attend classes? she will stop going. he wants her to go to the revels and socialise? she'll stay at home and read comic books.
"If it annoys Madoc, it pleases Vivi." (TCP, ch.2)
so it's interesting that Madoc, right after Vivi has made her vow to hate him, tells her not to shirk her responsibilities as the eldest child—and, consciously or not, she proceeds to do exactly that. and perhaps even more interesting is Madoc's constant emphasis on "family over everything", juxtaposed with Vivi's almost apathetic absence from it.
this isn't to excuse Vivi of everything she never noticed with Jude and Taryn by pinning it on some magical vow she made when she was nine. but i do wonder if, because of her vow, there's a little more at play than just carelessness here.
still, even if we are to believe in Vivi's free will, imagine growing up being forced to live with a biological father you viscerally hate, and having your younger sisters—whose parents (and yours) were literally murdered by him in front of your eyes—treat him as more father than murderer.
at that young of an age, i suspect it would be hard to understand why Jude and Taryn didn't hate Madoc viscerally, too. to Vivi, i think it might even feel a little gaslighty.
Jude hints at Vivi's feelings about this in TCP:
“When Vivi wasn't reminiscing about home, she was a terror. She broke things. She screamed and raged and pinched us when we were content. Eventually, she stopped all of it, but I believe there is a part of her that hates us for adapting. For making the best of things. For making this our home.” (TCP, ch.2)
if you're alone in hating someone, it is probably a very isolating experience.
II. Coping or Cop-Out?
Vivi is portrayed as this impulsive, rebel-child with her head in the clouds. her main focus is on escaping a life she never chose for herself. in fact, i think one of the ways Vivi tries to take control of her own life again, after Madoc upends it by murdering their parents, is through escapism.
we see this in her constant fixation on the mortal world, through her voracious consumption of the comics Heather draws, and how she only has one friend in all of Faerie: Rhiya.
“All our new memories are of here, and Vivi has only a passing interest in those.” (TCP, ch. 2)
suffice it to say, she has not bothered putting down roots.
one fascinating theme, which has become apparent to me recently, is that the Duarte sisters each have a very distinct way of handling the trauma they've endured.
Jude carves out a space for herself through strength, skill, and intellect- fight
Vivi seeks any methods of escape- flight
Taryn relies on relationships with others to ensure her security at court- fawn
each of these is a psychologically recognised trauma response. so if Vivi seems distant or detached from the happenings in Faerie, it's because of this coping mechanism.
however, the difference between Vivi's response and that of her sisters, is that hers is a coping mechanism for a memory of the past. Jude and Taryn's responses are survival mechanisms for current ongoing trauma.
i don't think Vivi, as one of the fae, recognises the privilege she has over her sisters.
if there's anything negative to be said about Vivi's character, it is this. that she either presumes that since Madoc claimed Jude and Taryn as his own, they would be just as accepted by the fae is she or Oak is, despite their being mortal; or worse, that she is as Jude suspects—altogether oblivious to the plight of mortals living in Elfhame.
either way, it's not as if any of them talk about it.
but if Vivi's words truly do bind her will, i wonder if existing in a space occupied by Madoc is difficult. i wonder if it weighs more on her than it does on her sisters. i wonder if noticing details of other people's lives is difficult when your mind is totally consumed by a hatred for one person.
i think Jude, of all people, might be able to understand that.
III. Age is Not But a Number
we sometimes forget that, although she is older than Jude and Taryn, Vivi is still a kid herself. i believe she is said to be around 19-20 in the books.
now, i know the "adult" age for humans is 18, but frankly that doesn't really mean anything in our world, much less Elfhame. even with my 25 years (which is still quite young btw), i look back at years 19 and 20 and think about how immature i was then.
i was barely able to care for myself sufficiently. i was in no way qualified to care for a whole other person (or two).
there's this weird theme in YA fantasy novels where the fate of the whole world often rests on the shoulders of kids. where the only adults they know are either obsessed with power or dismissive and impervious. and while i do think kids are capable of a lot, and it's certainly neat to imagine a world where they are given enough respect and credibility to affect positive change in their societies, i don't think it's good or fair to conflate capability with responsibility.
just because someone is ostensibly capable of doing something, it doesn't mean they should have to do it. especially not alone.
which brings me to my biggest point: it was never Vivi's responsibility to raise her sisters.
even when they lived in the mortal world, where the twins were relatively safe, it was presumably Eva and Justin who made sure all of their needs were met. it wasn't Vivi's responsibility then, and it isn't when they get to Elfhame, either.
so my question is, do you actually have a problem with the way Vivi specifically treated the twins? or are you frustrated with her lack of protecting them from the way they are treated by Elfhame in general?
because in my mind, that burden is entirely Madoc's to bear. he assumed the responsibility of protecting them when he murdered their parents. he even says so himself in the prologue of TCP:
“'They are the progeny of my wife and, thus, my responsibility. I may be cruel, a monster, and a murderer, but I do not shirk my responsibilities.'"
yet, how are we meant to believe he honoured his duties to them when they lived every day terrified?
we, as a fandom, seem to have many excuses at the ready for Madoc:
"he loved them in his own way"
"he did the best that he could in raising them"
"he didn't treat them any differently, he regarded them as his own, what an amazing complex relationship!"
and while i think these are commendable and true statements, i also think they should be able to coexist with:
"he didn't do enough to protect them, he should've done more"
"because he was obsessed with power, he was also a bit neglectful"
"he had his own interests in mind more than his children"
so if the twins ever felt unsafe or unwanted in Elfhame, we should only have Madoc (and potentially Oriana, whose guilt is by association) to blame.
IV: Heather the Harbinger of Clarity
to me, Vivi glamouring Heather at Taryn's wedding in TWK was the panicked action of a young person who felt guilty for letting something bad happen to someone she loved. much in the same way as the time Vivi whisked Jude and Taryn back to the mortal world for a few days because they missed home, Vivi just wanted to make the problem go away quickly.
and much in the same way as their escape to the mortal world when they were little didn't fix the girls being homesick, glamouring Heather didn't fix anything like Vivi thought it would. it only made everything worse.
so was it a good move to glamour Heather without her permission? no. it was a mistake.
i don't think she realised the gravity of what she was doing, and it showed the audience (as well as Heather) that maybe she wasn't quite ready for a relationship.
i do think Heather is an important piece of all of this, though. because Heather's problems in Elfhame will be the same or similar to Jude and Taryn's problems. the only difference is, Vivi is directly responsible for what happens to Heather, since Vivi is the one who brought her into the world of the fae.
i'm hopeful that their relationship will shed a light on the subject of mortals in Elfhame that Vivi had yet to see. and perhaps someday we will get to see her make amends with Jude and Taryn, too.
TLDR:
Vivi is bound to her vow of hatred for Madoc, and therefore, is isolated by being the only one who truly hates him.
the way she copes with that is by running away to the only place she's ever known love (the mortal world). this makes her appear detached and neglectful in protecting the twins, which rubs people the wrong way.
but that was never Vivi's job. it was Madoc's.
we see Vivi acting like a kid because she is one. and part of being a kid is acting impulsively and selfishly sometimes.
at the end of the day, Vivi is learning how to best care for herself at the same time as she is learning how to love others to the best of her abilities.
i don't fault her for making the mistakes she does. that's part of growing up.

Demon Bros React: MC Defends Them From Nasty Remarks
Warnings: Explicit language, MC being mildly violent (throwing/kicking things).
Lucifer
Lucifer had just finished some paperwork for Diavolo and was on his way to R.A.D to deliver it.
In the hallway he could hear two demons talking and laughing. As he got closer he heard them say "Lucifer" and instinctively ducked into a nearby alcove.
"Lucifer's such an asshole." "I know, right? He acts like he's so much better than the rest of us when really, he just has a huge stick up his ass. It's no wonder he doesn't have any friends. Even his own brothers don't like him!" "He'll probably spend the rest of his life being Diavolo’s little bitch."
He would be lying if the comments didn't make him angry. But it was far from the worst thing he had heard about himself and would definitely not be the last time someone spoke ill of him.
With a weary sigh, Lucifer turned toward the south entrance where he could walk in order to avoid the demons. He could have strode past and glared at them menacingly. He could have made them grovel on their knees. But he was honestly exhausted and looked forward to this day being over as soon as possible. Plus, it would reflect poorly on Lord Diavolo if he started a fight with some lesser demons over this.
Suddenly, the chatter of the demons was interrupted by a loud thumping sound followed by the sound of one of the demons screeching in pain.
Lucifer quickly turned around to see- Oh no. You were standing in front of the demons, rage clear on your face. The demon who had yelled in pain was crouched on the ground holding his bruised shoulder. A History of the Devildom textbook was open on the ground, pages crumpled.
Did you... did you just throw a textbook at a demon?
Before he could even move, he heard your angry voice. "Listen here you fuckers. How dare you talk about Lucifer like that. He's one of the kindest, most intelligent, most thoughtful beings I've ever met. And you have no right to speak of him like that! I love him!"
Lucifer's heart burst at your declaration, his cheeks warming in pleasure. The two demons however, who had been gaping at you in shock, were now beginning to look murderous. The injured one stood up and slowly inched toward you, a vicious grin on his face. "Oh, is that so? And what the hell is a weak human like you going to do about it?"
You opened your mouth to speak but before you could say anything, Lucifer picked you up and threw you over his shoulder. "Love, I appreciate how you stood up for me. There's not many people who have done so for me before. But any more would cause trouble. And also, please don't throw textbooks at others, no matter how much you think they deserve it."
With a smug smile on his face, Lucifer began to walk toward the dorms. You, however, were struggling to turn your head around, still yelling and pointing angrily at the demons. "This isn't over! Sleep with your eyes wide open! You'll be hearing from my lawyer!"
He really did love you.
Mammon
Mammon was at the casino on a Monday night. It was lively as always, crowds of people playing group games and others drinking and mingling.
But for some reason, Mammon felt like being alone. He was in one of the more quiet corners, playing the slot machines.
He honestly should have been back at the dorms doing his homework. He was here because he felt like he had to, but his heart wasn't really in it. Mammon thought about packing it up early and texting you to see if you wanted to hang out.
The sudden sound of glass shattering broke through his thoughts. There was some sort of commotion going on and Mammon could hear angry yelling and cursing, some kind of argument.
Like many of the other customers, Mammon drifted toward the noise wanting to see what had happened. His heart sank when he saw you in the middle of the crowd, still in your R.A.D uniform, arguing with an older demon who Mammon recognized as a regular. They had played some games together before that always ended in angry accusations. The remains of a drinking glass lay shattered on the floor.
Mammon quickly rushed to your side. "MC, what the hell are you doing here?! What happened?" Up close he could see how livid you looked, you were trembling with fury.
The older demon opened his mouth while gesturing at his ruined clothes. "This bitch threw a drink at me! I should have them arrested! Do you know how much this tuxedo costs?" Ignoring him, you turned to face Mammon.
"Mams, Lucifer told me to check up on you and you weren't answering my calls. So I decided to come in person to make sure you were okay. But then I heard this asshole saying terrible things about you to his friends, calling you a liar and a cheater and all kinds of horrible names that you're not!"
Mammon was shocked to see you were struggling to fight off your tears, your lower lip quivering. "I know how caring and genuine and loving you are and I couldn't stand by while he said those things about you! None of it’s true!"
Overcome with emotion Mammon embraced you fiercely, shielding you from the other demon. "Oh, babe. Ya really are a special one.” Mammon gently stroked your hair and whispered in your ear. “I don't care about what he said, but thanks for sticking up for me. I love ya so much."
"Now let's make a run for it so that demon doesn't kill us."
Leviathan
Levi was slowly getting used to being in a relationship with you in public. At first, interactions were limited to the privacy of his room: cuddling and watching movies, gaming together, reading manga together. But now he looked forward to waiting for you after classes and walking home with you while holding hands.
His face got really red and he had a hard time making eye contact with you but still, he thought it was an improvement.
Right now he was waiting for you outside your classroom, scrolling through his D.D.D to kill time. Suddenly, he heard someone call your name.
“MC, you’re dating Levi right?” At the sound of his name he peeked in the window to see you cornered by three demons. He saw you nod.
The demons began to barrage you with questions. “Why are you with a loser like that? Doesn’t he like never leave his room?” “He’s honestly the ugliest out of his family. I don’t believe that Levi and Asmo are related.” “You don’t actually find him attractive, do you?” “Are you with him ‘cause he’s like the easiest to control?”
Each word felt like someone was piercing his heart. These were all things that he had thought or wondered himself, days when the darkness seemed to win over his mind. But to have them spoken out loud, especially in front of you, it was unbearable. It was as if his lowest and most shameful thoughts were being justified.
He was afraid to hear what your answers would be. Biting his lower lip, Levi turned to head home by himself but flinched at the loud sound of something slamming into the wall. He peeked inside the window again and saw you standing there, furious, your hands clenched into fists. You had apparently kicked one of the desks into the wall, black scuff marks clearly visible against the white paint.
“Alright, listen here you despicable fucks because I’m only going to say this once. My relationship with Levi is private, meaning all of your questions can be answered with ‘none of your damn business’. But since you’ve gone out of your way to waste my time, I’ll let you know this: Leviathan is more beautiful, inside and out, than any of you will ever be in your entire miserable lives. I honestly don’t think you deserve to breathe the same air as him and I hope Levi summons Lotan to devour the three of you."
Levi’s jaw was on the floor. He had never heard you speak that way. He had never had someone defend him so fiercely. His thoughts were interrupted by the classroom door suddenly slamming open as you walked out."
“Oh Levi, tell me you didn’t hear anything just now.” Your eyes were wide and you looked at him nervously.
Levi grabbed your hand and held it tight between two of his own. “I did, but it’s alright. Thanks for what you said.”
“Anything for my Lord of Shadows.”
Satan
Satan was heading to the library, your usual after-school spot. Some days you two spent hours there doing homework, reading, or just chatting quietly about your day before heading to dinner.
As he approached the table he saw you sitting down with a stranger seated opposite you. Leaning closer he was relieved to see it was a classmate you were friendly with, someone he knew you hung out with occasionally.
Satan was about to say hello when he stopped at the mention of his name. "MC, are you sure it's wise to be this involved with Satan?"
He quickly ducked behind a nearby bookshelf. Satan usually wasn't one to eavesdrop like this but the question concerned him.
"MC, I'm asking you for your sake. Satan is dangerous. He's violent and cruel. There are rumors about him beating up other demons and doing horrible things to them. What if he tries to hurt you too?"
Satan flinched. Sure his wrath had led him to do some destructive things before, but it was never without reason. Is this how you saw him as well? His thoughts began to spiral. What if you grew scared of him? Of his wrath? What if you flinched at his touch? That would hurt more than any of the rumors that swirled about him.
Satan saw you take a deep breath before speaking. "Well, I appreciate you talking to me about this. I know you meant the best and were just thinking about me. But I promise you, you have nothing to be worried about. Satan would never hurt me."
He saw your friend shake their head, exasperated. "But you don't know that! What if one day he can't control himself and has an outburst or something?"
You replied carefully. "Satan is gentle. Incredibly so. He always treats me with nothing but respect and kindness. And Satan's not some kind of monster. He knows how to control himself and his powers. I love him. I really do. And until he decides to stop loving me, I want to be by his side."
He saw your friend huff irritably and get up to walk away. "Suit yourself, MC. Don't say I didn't warn you."
Satan took this as his cue to walk over. Your eyes brightened at the sight of him and you started to ask him about his day, acting as if nothing had happened. Satan played along for a bit, but then reached across the table for your hand and began playing with your fingers.
His hand was shaking. "I'll never stop loving you, you know. For as long as I live you're the only one for me. I love you, MC."
Asmodeus
Asmo was thrilled when you said you wanted to go dancing with him because he was usually the one pestering you to do things. He was having so much fun with you tonight, twirling you around on the dance floor and marveling how beautiful you looked under the shimmering lights of the club.
He was beginning to feel a bit hot, however, and excused himself to the bathroom, making sure you were safe on of the couches with a bottle of water in your hand.
Asmo had just finished touching up his makeup and adjusting his outfit when he heard two demons near the entrance of the bathroom gossiping loudly about him.
“Did you see what he was wearing tonight? He might as well have come naked instead of wearing those scraps of fabric he thinks counts as an outfit.” “My friend slept with Asmo once. She said he’s super easy, he’s willing to pretty much sleep with anyone.” “I bet him and that human won’t last another week. Once he’s done with them he’ll trash ‘em and move on to the next one, like he always does.”
Being the Avatar of Lust meant that Asmo had heard these kinds of comments before, whispered in the hallways at R.A.D or the dark hallways of nightclubs. It never really got easier listening to them though, and he realized he was biting down hard on his lower lip, his nails digging into his palm.
Asmo contemplated what to do. He didn’t want to keep you waiting by yourself outside but he also didn’t want to run into the demons talking about him. Their comments affected him more than he thought they would. Maybe it was because you were involved. He wouldn’t do that to you. You knew that right? He would never treat you like a plaything.
Taking a deep breath and steeling his nerves Asmo schooled his face into an expression of careless indifference. He took a step outside, ready to greet his "fans", but was surprised to see that you had gotten there first.
And what a sight you were. Despite being much shorter than the two demons, it seemed you were the least bit intimidated. Your glare was ice cold as you gestured wildly at the two of them, and moving closer Asmo realized you were screaming.
"How fucking dare you say such vile things? You don't know the first thing about Asmo. You're really going to shame someone for what they wear?! For what they do in the privacy of their bedroom?!"
You pointed angrily at the demons, who seemed too stunned to move or say anything. "People like you make me fucking sick. You're despicable! Talking as if you're so high and mighty when all you do is judge others! How dare you? You cowards!"
Asmo could see you were getting more and more enraged and your hands were beginning to tremble. He leapt forward to stand between you and the demons and put his hands gently on your shoulders. Once he saw that you were okay, he gave you a passionate kiss, his mouth hot and needy against yours.
You kissed him back for a moment but moved away to hiss, "Karens, Asmo! Karens in the fucking Devildom, who would have thought?!"
"I know, darling. Let's head home. We can have a nice, relaxing bubble bath together."
Beelzebub
Beel was looking through the menu, deciding between a couple of his favorite dishes. It was your one year anniversary and despite his insistent protests, you had remained firm in your decision to pay for that night’s meal. Ever since you and Beel began dating, he pretty much always paid for your meals together because of how much he ate. But tonight, you wanted to be the one to treat him for once.
Beel knew you had secretly been saving up Grimm and he’d feel so guilty if you spent it all on him. Which was why he was trying to decide between a couple of different things, when normally he would have ordered everything on the page.
“Babe, please order whatever you want. I can practically see the thoughts turning in your head. I told you that I wanted to pay for tonight and I’m going to keep that promise. I want this to be a special night for us, so don’t worry about it.” Before he could protest, you called the waiter over.
Beel sighed and knew there was no changing your mind on this. You were incredibly stubborn when you wanted to be. He rattled off his usual order as the waiter frantically scribbled down notes, struggling to keep up. Once finished, Beel handed over the menus and smiled at how cute you looked, a mixture of pride and smugness on your face.
But your expression soon turned sour as you heard the conversation from a couple sitting a few tables over. Their voices were intentionally loud and they kept sneaking glances at your table as if to watch your reactions.
“Oh my lord, honey did you see how much food that guy just ordered? What an absolute pig!” “I saw, darling. I honestly pity his date right now, they must be soooo embarrassed.” “Is there anyone who wouldn’t be ashamed to be seen in public with such a selfish glutton?”
Beel’s heart felt like it had sunk. Embarrassed? Was MC embarrassed to be seen with him? Panicking, Beel thought back to all of the dates he’d had with MC so far. He realized that they ate out a good majority of the time they hung out, with Beel eating his normal enormous portions each time. Oh no, what had he done?
Head bowed, Beel slowly looked up at you, afraid to see what kind of expression you were making. But to his surprise, you didn’t look embarrassed or ashamed at all. You looked like you were going to murder someone.
He watched as you cleared your throat and then began speaking even more loudly than the couple had been. “OH BEEL, MY HANDSOME, KIND, LOVING, STRONG, SEXY, TALENTED BOYFRIEND. I LOVE YOU SO MUCH! YOU’RE HONESTLY SO AMAZING AND ONE OF THE QUALITIES I LOVE ABOUT YOU MOST IS THAT YOU’RE NOT A JUDGMENTAL ASSHOLE WHO MAKES RUDE INAPPROPRIATE COMMENTS TO STRANGERS ABOUT THINGS THAT ARE NONE OF THEIR DAMN BUSINESS!”
Beel felt his lips inch into a smile and he flushed with amusement and happiness. But you weren’t finished just yet. “EXCUSE ME WAITER?”
Your waiter practically ran to the table and looked between you two nervously, then at the couple glaring daggers in your direction. “COULD YOU PLEASE BRING US ANOTHER MENU? MY BOYFRIEND WASN’T FINISHED WITH ORDERING WHAT HE WANTS. OH BEEL, I LOVE HOW MUCH YOU EAT. HOW COULD SOMEONE BE EMBARRASSED OF A WONDERFUL GUY LIKE YOU?”
Beel took the menu and began listing some more foods at random, not really paying attention. He was too busy thinking about how much he loved you, how nobody aside from Belphie had ever stood up for him like that, had protected him like that. His cheeks felt like they were about to split from how much he was smiling.
When the waiter finally left, looking frazzled, Beel made his way over to your side of the table. He knelt down and nuzzled into your neck before giving you a tender kiss on your forehead. “MC, you’re amazing.”
Belphegor
Belphie had to admit, the gardens were a pretty nice place for a nap. Earlier in the day you had practically dragged him outside claiming that you were bored of sleeping in his room. As if that was even possible.
At first he was pretty annoyed that you were making him get up and move around. But the newly washed picnic blanket, the cool breeze rustling through the trees, and the light smell of flowers in the air all contributed to a very nice environment for a nap.
Belphie rested his head on your lap, already feeling his eyelids growing heavier. Your fingers gently combed through his hair, lightly scratching against his scalp, and he practically purred.
He guessed he had been asleep for about ten minutes when he awoke to the sound of your voice and something prodding against his knee.
Irritated at the disturbance, Belphie looked up to see two R.A.D students he recognized for always causing trouble. He looked over to see you scowling and guessed you had been telling them to leave so they wouldn't wake him up.
One of the students leered down, blocking out the light, and used the tip of his foot to poke Belphie's knee again. "Well the two of you make an odd fucking pair, huh?” He sneered, “Personally, I don’t date people who have MURDERED me in the past but what do I know? Love works in all kinds of mysterious ways.” You flinched as if someone had slapped you and Belphie growled, his hands curling into fists.
The other student leaned down to clap Belphie on the shoulder. “I gotta admit I didn’t know you had it in you, chief! I always thought you were...” He gave Belphie a once-over before adding “Well, everyone thinks you’re a bit fucking useless, eh? But I’m glad to see you’re capable of something.”
Belphie opened his mouth to reply venomously but was interrupted by the most horrifying sound coming from your mouth. It sounded like a combination of wailing and screeching as fat tears rolled down your cheeks. It was difficult to hear what exactly you were saying because of how hard you were crying, but Belphie could make out “How could you say that?!” and “Leave him alone!” among the screams.
The two students had their hands over their ears, their faces twisted into grimaces of pain. One shouted, “What the fuck is wrong with you?” Worried, Belphie put a hand on your shoulder in an attempt to calm you down but you shrugged it off, continuing to cry and wail. Pretty soon other students began gathering around you, whispering amongst themselves and looking to see what all the noise and commotion was about. It was difficult to ignore you when you kept yelling things like “You’re horrible! Horrible! Leave us alone!”
The two instigators looked at each other for a brief moment before deciding to run off, not wanting to get involved any further. And as soon as they left, it was like a switch had been turned off. You stopped crying and screaming immediately. If he hadn’t been there from the beginning, Belphie never would have guessed that you had been crying. Your face was perfectly calm and you sat relaxed with your hands folded, the picture of innocence.
“Belphie, don’t worry about what those two idiots said. We’ve talked about it enough and we’ve both worked it out, haven’t we? And you’re not useless. You know how much I love you and care about you. You mean so much to me.”
Belphie leaned over to take your hand in his trembling one. He reached down to brush a stray leaf out of your hair before whispering, “MC, you’re fucking terrifying sometimes. I love you.”

It’s happening, you think, picking the discreet, angelic white color for your astronaut - with a halo and all, truly, you are a seraph that stepped through the gates of heaven and descended onto earth to grace these morals with your presence...quite literally, you’re not only donning white in game, but also in real life, cute as a button or more like as a bunny. Cat girls are overrated - cat boys, on the other hand, you’ll ardently defend till your last breath - but bunny girls...Safe to say, your chat had been going feral. Your endless ego is fed well. You even swore on your heart that no devilish trickery would follow in this game - you had left your snake ways behind you.
No one believed you. The Roaches know you too fucking well.
The influx of new subs, however, do not. Look at this cute girl! She wouldn’t hurt a fly! You chuckle at the compliments. At the exact same moment, Rae pipes up on the discord call, “Y/n is leering and cackling evilly. No one trust her.”
Demon woman herself must be watching your stream before starting her own. You pout, all adorable and innocent, but your eyes gleam slyly. Truly, a mastermind of manipulation! Look at you go! The chat is swooning. The viewer number steadily climbs past 16K and you hum happily, welcoming all that decided to join your little clan, “Don’t listen to Rae. Wifey is mad because I said I’m not bringing her back a souvenir. Well guess what, bitch, I’m the gift.”
Your perfect image does not quite align with your tone, nor the affectionate nickname you call your roommate (bitch, not wifey). The new viewers are none the wiser though, just like your new stream mates.
There is laughter from people you don’t quite know. The lobby is almost full, but not everyone has trickled in yet.
“Filing divorce papers right now.” Rae mumbles, but you hear the smile in her voice. It makes you crack a grin, too.
More hello’s and shy introductions to the people in the lobby. Sykkuno’s green astronaut pops in with a upbeat, “Hey, everyone! Hi, Y/n!” as his character circles around yours. A collective awww echoes in your stream chat as you, quite breathless at the wholesomeness, reply with a “Hi! Hi hi!” as well.
Corpse is next to join, mysteriously ominous. The discord call is pure chaos, everyone screaming over the other variations of his name while stressing different syllables. Silent as a grave, he just stands there, his black astronaut seemingly eyeing everyone in the lobby.
Alas, when the noise dies down, he utters, “Whaddup, baby.” and it’s pandemonium all over again. You are screeching/laughing along with the rest. His astronaut swiftly glides to Sykkuno, still circling around you, “Hey, Sykkuno.” He says. The latter abruptly stops. The game hasn’t even started, and already - betrayal! Sykkuno starts circling around Corpse now, leaving you in the dust.
“Hey, dude!”
“Yo,” You interrupt, “I’m like here too, yeah?”
“Fight, fight, fight!” Pokimane jeers. You can’t see her, but you’re certain she’s pumping her fists in the air.
“Let’s leave the bloodshed for the game, yeah?” Dream offers past her laugh ridden urging.
“No, fuck that, let’s start this shit right now,” Charlie declares - his monotone is strangely pleasant to the ear, and you lean back in your chair with a thoughtful hum. Something about his energy just clicks with yours instantly, but perhaps you’re judging too quickly- “Got my fucking knife ready to slit some throats. You can all pretend you aren’t ready to kill on sight, but that’s not me. I’ll teabag your dead fucking body.”
-yeah, no, your initial estimate had been correct! What a pleasant surprise, you feel like you and he will get along beautifully.
“Way to be subtle, Charles.” Rae snorts.
“Subtle doesn’t make an interesting game, Rae,” He’s quick to bite back, “and if I’m Impostor, you bet your fucking ass I’m going after you first.”
“Noooooo!” She shrieks, rushing to your astronaut, which is still just standing there, abandoned, like the equivalent of that one emoji, “Y/n, protect me.”
“Of course, baby.” You purr.
There’s mumbling in the discord call, though it’s barely audible. Corpse seems to be repeating the word to himself: Baby...Baby?...Baby...
“You’re gonna stab me in the back the first chance you get, won’t you?” She questions, already painfully aware of the answer.
“You know it!”
“Finally, someone that’s not fucking cowering in their boots and flaunting their real nature.” Charlie says, “Y/n, form a Big Dick Alliance with me.”
“Oh for sure, man.” You agree immediately, trailing to his in game figure, “Let’s show these virgins how it’s done.”
“This is going to be a mess, isn’t it?” Sean’s voice rings with a cheerful laugh, making you flustered. Yes, you’re actually playing with THE JacksepticeyeTM. You still haven’t fully wrapped your head around that part, “I’m very excited to see where this will go.”
“Nowhere good.” You say with unparalleled sincerity - every word you speak to him, the icon, the legend, the one of the few youtubers you actually actively follow, must be genuine. You doubt you can lie to him. He’s too good of a person. You admire him too much. Stuck between wanting to be a shady bitch and an absolute saint, you refrain from addressing him more - you are simply not worthy.
its the y/n trying to act like a normal person in front of jack for me
ikr she looks ready to join the monastery
each day we stray closer to gods light???
Your viewers are snide as always. Gosh, you love them.
The last player pops in, fashionably late, “Hey, y’all.”
“Hey, Bretman!” The call choruses somewhat harmoniously.
“Hi, daddy.” He’s speaking to Corpse now, a smile in his voice - you can hear it even past the static of his atrocious mic. Your eyes widen, eyebrows shooting up. Your friends are cackling, but confusion refrains you from doing the same - were you not the only one Corpse offered, seemingly so long ago!, to be his sugar baby?
One betrayal after the other. You’re glad for the Big Dick Alliance. The name has a nice right to it, too.
Corpse laughs, “...Hey, Bretman. How are you today?”
Damn, two sentences for him, but not even a word spoken to you!? You’re already scripting a very melodramatic paragraph you will text him after the stream. With poorly masked discontent, you mutter, “Wow, thanks for such a warm welcome, Corpse, my day’s going great, yeah, loving the company.”
“Now now miss girl,” Bretman chimes, “we can’t be all daddy’s favorite.”
“Careful,” Charlie drones, “I think you just got yourself onto Y/n’s shit list.”
“Right next to Corpse Husband and Valkyrae.” You agree, “Sykkuno!” You suddenly call him.
“Uhm-Uh-Yes?” Is his nervous reply.
“You’re safe.” You state coldly, “For now.”
“You are not going after Sykkuno on my watch.” It must be a belated holiday miracle because Corpse finally decides to address you. His words seem to awake something in him, “Hey-Hey-Hey-” He swiftly glides to you, standing right next to your minute virtuous angel, “When are you coming back to Cali?”
corpse stop acting weird challenge
literally omg lmao
he does bring up a good point y/n y u not in cali yet?!
^pack it up corpse simp he disrespected the queen when he didnt say hi
“Back off, buddy,” Charlie interjects, “this spot is for Big Dick Alliance members only.”
“I’m never returning.” You inform him, your voice cold like the Arctic snow, and the look in your eyes is no kinder. You feel like you’re having a stare down through screen.
Silence stretches. Is this an intimidation tactic? Because if it is, it’s a paltry one. Your conviction to be petty is stronger than any vulnerability you might feel.
“Then I have nothing to say to you.” He admits and fucks right off with that. Fine, go join Sykkuno and Rae in their little corner of betrayal! Friendship ended with Corpse, now Charlie is your best friend.
“Okay, guys, guys, guys-” Toast, noting this is going to spiral any minute now, tries to catch their attention, “Let’s start?!”
You look into your camera, and the roaches know what you’re thinking. You’re twins like that, communicating telepathically. You are taking back your tender promise of not being a conniving bastard. It’s fucking on. You will destroy everyone in your path, starting with the guy you have a stupid crush on - maybe?! Feelings are confusing, you’d rather just not think point blank period.
With no objections from the cast, the counter ticks away seconds and, for the first round, you’re stuck as CREW MATE.
✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼
Charlie is a gift. Truly, you had not expected such a sudden, wonderful relationship to bloom. How have you not known of him sooner?! It’s a crime that you hadn’t spoken to him earlier. You are a 100% certain if you had found him before you started streaming, he would’ve been a big inspiration.
The two of you do your silly little tasks and curse like sailors, commenting about this and that thanks to proximity chat. You wouldn’t have been able to stand the claustrophobic silence if it was just a normal Among Us game - to think, missing out on all his foully worded quips! It almost springs a tear into your eye. He’s just as unhinged as you.
worried about this dynamic
its a trainwreck lol i love it plz collab more plz
Caught in a headed discussion in Electrical - TikTok trends, or audios specifically - you defend the app the best you can. Charlie thinks it’s super cringe, and you insist it’s part of the charm as you connect wires.
“I mean, have...-do you know that one audio, the one that goes, like,” You’re spilling your words, heated, frustrated that he’s so dismissive of the app that literally saved 2020, “it goes like, uhm,” You clear your throat, prep your voice - even take a sip of your favorite drink. Drawing the syllables, you try your best to make it drop an octave - it must sound like you’re doing an atrociously bad and nauseatingly scratchy Corpse impression with an extra dramatic flair, “My assssssss, your cockkk, you do the mathhh.”
“Did-Did I just-” You freeze hearing Corpse’s voice, finally done with your task. Charlie is muffling his laughter behind his palm; Corpse’s astronaut stands in the doorway, “What the fuck did I just walk into?” He seems genuinely confused, though a strangely winded. You’re mortified. Your shoulders are shaking. You look at the stream chat but it’s going too fast for you to follow. Manic laughter bubbles in your chest and you squeeze your eyes shut, mouth split into a toothy grin, lowering your head and trying to hide the blush dusting your cheeks.
“Hey? Guys? What the fuck are you talking about?” He questions again.
“Honestly?” Charlie chimes, “No fucking clue. TikTok, I think. Ask Y/n.”
You can’t reply. You’re crying. You cover your face with your palms, muttering a soft oh my god before bursting into a full blow laugh, throwing your head back, the motion accidentally knocking your headphones off.
“Y/n.” Corpse calls you, “Fuck was that?”
You’re howling. Your stomach hurts. There are literal tears in your eyes. You think Charlie might be laughing too, but you can’t really tell over your loud screeching. Hastily fixing your headphones, you wipe away the tears stuck to your lower lashes, heaving, “S-Sorry, I-” You stutter, breaking into another fit of giggles. Corpse patiently waits you to calm down. Catching your breath, you start again with a sniffle, “TikTok, yeah.” You idly fix your hair, trying to bite down a smile, “It’s an audio.”
“What- What kind of videos are you watching?”
“The good kind.” Your reply is instant, merciless, “Also, why are you here? We’re having a BDA meeting, you know.”
“I-I...” He trails off, “I...I heard people talking and...I just came here to check it out, but...I’m regretting it.” There’s a lilt in his voice, and you know he doesn’t regret jack shit. You bet he’s smiling. You wish you could see it.
“Bitch, then leave!” You huff. You aren’t sure what is with him today, and you don’t want to stick around and find out - his playfulness makes your stomach flip at the most inappropriate times! Like when you’re trying to sound threatening. You must retreat posthaste, “No, wait, I’ll do it for you.” You say, brushing past his character. Charlie follows after you.
“Dude, you’re so fucking lucky neither of us are the Impostor because you’d be deader than I’ve been feeling since I was 10.” Your favorite companion comments. Charlie is truly a modern wordsmith. You’re pretty sure you adore him, because you’re nodding your head, so quick to agree with him that even you’re surprised.
✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼
A meeting is called. You spare a glance at your fallen crew mates. They will be missed. Sean most of all, God, why does heaven always take the good ones?! The game feels emptier without him, even if you really only passed him once on your trek to Cafeteria with Charlie.
You may or may not have been avoiding him, afraid you’d accidentally say something horrible and he would hate you. It’s a silly fear, though a deep one. And with Charlie keeping you company, you had not uttered a single objectively  good, or even coherent, sentence. Your parents can’t watch this stream once it’s uploaded onto your Youtube channel. They know you’re barely keeping it together in most of your videos, but here, now? Yeah, no. Charlie is already hard to listen to on his own for sensitive viewers, and hearing you agree with literally everything he says with your own chaotic ideas? Your dad would stumble into an early grave.
Mom probably wouldn’t mind too much, but you’d have to explain your relationship status again. She is under the assumption that everyone you collab with is your significant other. You’d say it began with Sykkuno, though the exclamation of “Finally! My daughter isn’t pathetically single! We need to celebrate.” had started with Rae. Truly, a scandal.
Speaking of which, Sykkuno is gone, too, but you had time to mourn him already. You found his body roughly ten minutes ago; so torn with the fresh agony of heartbreak, you could not do anything else but cry. It was Charlie, bless his heart, that reported it.
“Someone killed Jack,” You say, voice dripping with venom, “court is now in session. I’m ready to vote the fucker out.”
People speak all at once. Toast roars over them, “ORDER! ODER IN COURT!” as he slams his hand onto his desk repeatedly. That seems to work, though briefly.
“I think it’s Y/n.” Corpse says. You stare at him, hand gripping your heart, mouth falling open in surprise.
flame him
corpse boutta be a corpse fr
beat his ass queen!!!!!
“Pardon my french,” You grumble, “but nani the fuck?!”
“It’s definitely Y/n, I found her and Charlie conspiring in Electrical. Surrealist experience of my fucking life, but it’s definitely her.”
“Dude, we’ve been over this,” Charlie sighs, shushing Rae who was about to comment something - knowing your luck, it was probably in favor of the man throwing you under the bus, “we would’ve snapped your fucking neck the moment you walked in. But we didn’t.”
“Yeah, we didn’t.” Corpse notes, “I said nothing about you, I’m just saying it’s definitely her. She probably didn’t kill in front of you because of your stupid alliance-”
“Someone sounds salty because he wasn’t invited.” Pokimane snickers.
“-or possibly she did tell you and you won’t betray her for the exact same reason.”
“That’s some big brain logic you pulled there, genius,” Charlie says, absolutely unimpressed, “sure you didn’t have an aneurysm trying to connect all of that together?”
“Well,” Rae pipes up, “Y/n and Charlie did say they will kill right before the game started. If you ask me, it’s not unbelievable. And Sykkuno was sorta on the shit list.”
“I’m writing down your name twice, Rachell.” You spit.
“Not helping your case at all, Y/n...” Dream worries, “And Rae makes a good point. Charlie and you have professed desire for murder. I’m just saying! It’s a bit suspicious, you know?”
The next words to leave Corpse’s lips sound incredibly smug, “See?” He drawls.  The pressure is getting to you - you don’t understand where this beguiling talent of his to convince literally everyone comes from, but it doesn’t inspire any confidence. Your fist suddenly feels incredibly lonely, so useless - oh, how you long to swing at him, “It’s definitely Y/n.”
“I dunno...” Toast mumbles.
“It’s Y/n.”
“Corpse-” You try, but he's ignoring you - shocker, as if he hadn’t been doing that from the very start of this stupid game - and chanting your name like it’s a fucking mantra or something, a smile in his voice, knowing, relishing in the fact that he’s grating on your nerves, “FIRST OF ALL,” You scream into the mic, successfully cutting him off; catching your breath, you exhale, and continue, calmly, lowly,  “get my pretty name out of your mouth.”
There’s a pause full of tense silence.
Then, there’s a sound, seemingly stuck in the back of his throat, “...O-Oh...?”
“Second of all,” You continue, words like honey dipped in arsenic, “This is the clearest smear campaign I have ever witnessed. By how hard you’re trying to frame me for fuck knows what reason, I’m led to believe it’s you that killed them. You’re the Impostor.”
“Corpse wouldn’t kill Sykkuno, though.” Rae comments, skeptical.
“Then the other Impostor did it.” You counter.
“Maybe you’re both Impostors.” Pokimane chirps.
“Y/n would never betray the Big Dick Alliance like that.” Charlie states.
You grin, “Charlie, I literally love you.”
“Wait hold up now,” Corpse seems to get his bearings together, “what’s this about love I’m hearing?”
“I have none for you, dick.” You snap, flipping him off. Your chat cheers. While he can’t see it, you hope he senses it through the screen, “I officially hate you.”
“No, wait-”
“Boo, Corpse, you suck.” Toast laughs.
“Y/n, please-”
“Let’s all vote for Corpse Husband, okay?” You say it like it’s his full official name with an encouraging smile and multiple soft nods. Sykkuno can’t be here to nod, so you’ll do it for him. You eye the rapidly decreasing timer before clicking on Corpse’s figure and voting for him. The VOTED icon instantly pops up beside your adorable astronaut.
“Baby, I-” It slips past his lips so easily, as if he’s not even thinking about it, like it’s only natural to call you that and a spike of anxiety shoots up, making you glare. It’s only halfhearted. You try your best to ignore the rapid and uncoordinated pulses of your heart. Replace unwanted feelings with anger and hate - works like a charm, every time.
“You are not allowed to call me that.” You hiss. The chat spams snake emojis.
“Wait-” Bretman chimes, “Hold up, y’all, slow down a minute. Why does Corpse never call me baby?”
“Yeah!” Pokimane agrees, “I want to be baby, too!”
Pokimane may not have been called baby, but you just single-handedly decided her nickname for her - Target 4. Welcome to the shit list, she is officially your public enemy number 1. You aren’t sure why the thought of Corpse ever referring to anyone else as baby makes you sick to your stomach (you actually do know why, but brain no think at the moment), but you wish this whole conversation never happened. You don’t like it.
20 seconds left. More VOTED icons appear by your friends. Corpse is the last one to cast his ballot at, you assume, you, as the rest wait for his quick explanation before everyone (or not) returns to the game, “...Because she’s my baby.”
Goodbye. Life had been sweet, and there was sorrow, though the amount of embarrassment you feel now is worse than when the internet found your cringe worthy high school pictures on your mom’s Facebook. It’s a mixture of dread and excitement - the pleasure of being noticed, cherished even, though anxious from vulnerability. Someone is screaming a very prolonged “WHAAAAT?!”, or maybe multiple people are, you aren’t sure, your ears start to hurt from the loud, conflicting cacophony of voices as you stare blankly at the screen. You received two votes, just like Corpse, Charlie got one, the rest skipped. With no one flung out, you all find yourself back in Cafeteria again.
Baby. My baby? My baby. My baby. The sentence is playing ping-pong in your mind, reverberating louder each time. You’re actually speechless for the first time in your life; your chest hurts, your heart beating so fast your hands start shaking. Had he meant it? Or was this a some joke? Was he trying to get a rise out of you again? You might just go insane from so many questions. My baby. Holy shit, this is a heart attack, this is what a heart attack feels like, dear God, you figured you at least had ten years before you get one!

First round ends with IMPOSTORS raining victorious. Your sixth sense had been working wonders since, true to you previous estimate, it had been Corpse. His companion was Pokimane. For absolutely no reason what’s so ever, you change her name once more from Target 4 to Target 1. Normally, you’re all for girls supporting girls. Men don’t deserve anything, really, but now you’re so flustered and still reeling from what you are 80% sure was cardiac arrest that you genuinely don’t care about your established morals.
Round two starts without much deliberation. You get CREW MATE again; the game must sense your growing bloodlust, making sure that once you do get IMPOSTOR, you will not hold back. True power is granted to those who are ready and strong enough to wield it. You wait for your moment with bated breath.
Charlie is taken from you too early. The two of you were once again caught in a discussion - God knows about what, Minecraft, hentai, oh! your server! - as you tried to card swipe for the umpteenth time. The lights blew out and you just knew one of you was getting murdered there and then. Charlie’s voice abruptly cut off, and you think a part of you died with him.
It’s a cold meeting; with your new best friend being the first to go, everyone decides to skip. You proclaim you seek vengeance. When the meeting comes to an end, Sykkuno is the first to offer his condolences.
“I’m sorry, Y/n.” He says, and while he’s not in Brooklyn, you somehow feel him patting your back. You feign a sniffle.
“There’s nothing to apologize for...” You murmur sadly, “Unless...” Your voice turns sharp as the knife that was surely twisted into Charlie’s back, “It was you?”
“NO!” He exclaims, “I would never-you gotta believe me! I would never kill him. I know he’s important to you. I wouldn’t do that, I swear.”
“He was like a brother to me.” You admit, solemn, “Charlie, if you’re haunting me right now, know I will avenge you. I will not let this go.”
Sykkuno hums, circling around you, “Hey, I have a task in Greenhouse. Would you, uh--Would like to, uhm, join me?” Despite the shaky start, he finishes on a firm, pleasant note. He’s trying to cheer you up. Having lost your closest friend, he’s offering you his company. You accept with a soft smile and a cute “Yes, please!” and he releases an airy little laugh. The two of you make your way to your favorite place in map MIRA.
It’s difficult to stay sad for long when Sykkuno’s so sweet; the atmosphere of the Greenhouse is strangely calming; your problems seem to be left behind the shut doors. If you tried hard enough, you could imagine being in an actual Greenhouse - the warm, damp air clinging to your skin, the unmistakable smell of earth and vegetation, the pleasant silence broken only by yours and his hushed voices and clumsy footsteps.
The two of you are talking. Mainly about your choice of attire. Cat first, Sykkuno ponders aloud, doing his task as you watch the plants grow, now bunny, what’s next? You affirm that you will most likely dress up in cow-print next, or as an adorable sheep. He laughs, admitting you’ll look good in anything before he trails off. His awkwardness is really endearing.
“Or!” You chirp happily, content with being locked away with him for the whole game. The idea must be playing in his mind, too, because he seems in no rush to leave, “I could, like, dress as someone from My Hero Academia. I watched the stream you did with Stella, the one where she made you look like Todoroki. It was really cute. You were really cute.”
“Oh, uhm-well, uh, thank you, thanks, I, uhm-” He clears his throat, and despite his stutter, you hear the smile in his voice, “I-I think you’d look better, though. Not as Todoroki. Or, probably as Todoroki, too. But, uhm, what character are you thinking about?”
“Maybe Momo?”
“Momo!” He yeps, “Momo is good. Yeah, she’s great. You’ll-uhm-you’ll look amazing. Really. Momo is awesome. Very pretty. Just like you.”
You are blushing. A stupid, toothy grin makes your cheeks hurt. Your eyes flicker to the chat, but again, it’s going wild. Giggling, you thank him for his sweet words, so giddy it’s honestly embarrassing. Why can’t you stop smiling? This is incriminating. You hide your lips behind your palm.
“...What’s this?” Corpse question. You had failed to note his sudden appearance, too busy gushing. “Am I interrupting?”
“Hey, Corpse!” Sykkuno greets. For someone so awkward and shy, he sure is good at hiding it when he wants to. Perhaps it’s all an act and you had been deviously tricked! Probably not, but you can’t help but narrow your eyes suspiciously, finally able to calm down. You definitely underestimated him, you just haven’t figured out how yet, “Not really! Y/n was sad Charlie died so I took her here.”
“You interrupted our date, dipshit.” You deadpan.
“...Fuck you say?” Corpse dares, his voice low and somewhat menacing - for someone who exclusively portrays his emotions through only his voice, he’s incredibly hard to read. This is payback. Your love for wreaking havoc resurfaces suddenly. Serves him right for pulling all this ignoring shit at the start. Maybe you’ll make him say oh again.
Your sly smirk is promptly wiped. Fuck. He said oh, he literally said oh out loud. The Teruhashi fangirl in you is screaming. You had been so caught up in defending yourself you didn’t even register it at first. Alarmed, you look at the camera, then at the chat. First oh, then my baby. There’s no way he had been teasing you, and this proves it. Holy shit. You mouth the words “HE SAID OH!” for your audience only.
now she notices
snail pace baby we’ve been loosing our shit for the past hour

opening wattpad rn^
Your heart races in your chest - it might be considered an Olympic medalist at this point; flustered yet again, you wish you could cave into yourself. You should’ve brought your bright blue wig with you to Brooklyn. Turns out it would have been perfect for this stream. Yes, yes thinking about unnecessary details always works in distracting you from the butterflies throwing a fucking rave in your stomach.
“I guess it is a date!” Sykkuno admits, “Kinda after a funeral, but still.”
Corpse hums. You’re still too stunned to say anything. The black astronaut with adorable cat ears approaches Sykkuno.
“It’s not.” He states. Your mouth falls open in shock as your date, your companion, the Shoto to your Momo is murdered in cold blood right in front of you. His lifeless body, cut in half, lays on the tiles by the growing flowers, right beside you, “You didn’t see shit.”
“...I didn’t see shit.” Is all you can utter, breathless and terrified.
“Thaaaat’s fucking right, baby.” Corpse coos, “Now I’m gonna report it, and I’ll say we found Sykkuno together. Better stick close to me after the meeting, got it?”
If Sykkuno is Shoto, then Corpse is definitely Dabi.
why is that kinda hot tho omg
didn’t know i needed dom corpse since now but i do
y/n looks like shes boutta throw up lmao

You follow him around like a lost puppy - because what else is left for you to do!? You’re helpless in this situation. He’s got you in the palm of his hand, successfully eliminating everyone you had previously interacted with. First it was Charlie, then Sykkuno, even Sean, who said hello in passing, was shot instantly. Real Sangwoo behavior. You almost want to scream warnings at everyone to not approach you. You cannot mourn another lost crew mate, you don’t think your conscience can take it. But words fail to form. You’re too weak. You fake cry to your audience. They’re quick to remind you to stop acting like a little bitch.
“Mean.” Is all you say, eyeing the comments.
“Hm?”
“Was talking to the roaches.”
“What are they saying?”
“That I should betray you.”
“...Better not.”
A shiver shoots up your spine and you half believe he will bust down your door and drag you into his basement for real. A nervous laugh slips past your lips, “I won’t, I won’t.” You reassure him, “Don’t worry, I’m sticking with you. I haven’t seen shit.”
“I like that you listen to me. You always this agreeable?”
“You’re kinda not giving me a choice right now.” You grumble, vending yourself a drink while he looms behind you, protecting you. From who?! Himself?!
“Oh my fucking God, finally,” Bretman exclaims, “girl, I’ve been running around the whole map trynna find someone, is everyone like, dead?”
You’re scared to reply. Corpse does it for you, “Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, maybe? Not sure. Where have you been?”
“Oh you know,” Bretman grins, “doing tasks, talking shit, the usual. You two are not, like, Impostors right?”
You shoot a look at Corpse, but he obviously can’t see it. Biting your lip, you murmur, “Nope.”
“Just your regular crew mates doing regular crew mate things.” Corpse says, no, purrs. Because that’s not suspicious at all. You’d recommend Bretman to run, and not only because that sounded shady as fuck. But he seems to enjoy danger, or he just doesn’t care.
“Hmmmm, crew mates, sure. Miss girl Y/n,” He’s addressing you now; you smile anxiously, “How come every time I see you, you’re with a different man?! Like damn, leave some for the rest of us, for real!”
You like Bretman. You like his high-pitched whine and drawl. You would like him even more if not for the complex situation at hand. You fear for his life. Chewing at your bottom lip, you snicker, “Sorry, Bret. I can leave you Corpse if you want?”
He laughs, “Girl, I’d say yes so fucking quick, but I know he wouldn’t want that. Normally I wouldn’t care, but y’all are such a cute couple it’s making me not want to be a shady motherfucking bitch. Changing my ways, embracing the lord. Love it.”
Corpse doesn’t correct him that you are, in fact, not dating. His lack of reaction unnerves you slightly. Does he...? No! No think! Only exist! You catch that train of thought and steer it away from forbidden territory. Looks like it’s up to you to clear the air, and that is exactly what you do after trying to swallow down the lump in your throat, “Uh, we’re not together, actually. We’re just really good friends.”
“Bitch, then move over,” Bretman says snappily,”go like, back to your other boyfriends. Or find another one. I think I saw Dream near Navigation.”
“Near Navigation, huh?” Corpse hums thoughtfully. It’s a subtle warning, but you catch it. Yeah, even if you try running, Dream’s going to join your other ‘boyfriends’ in the afterlife. Granted, killing someone by just talking with them is kind of cool. Or maybe Stockholm Syndrome is finally kicking in, “Bret, the thing is, Y/n’s scared of dying, so she asked me to stay with her.”
It’s disturbing how good at lying he is. It is also really really attractive, as bizarre as that is.
y/n stop being in a toxic relationship with corpse challenge
making fanart of this omg her face
its the blushing for me girl get your head outta the gutter!
^she cant, it lives there
“Baby, you’re gonna fucking die if you stick with her,” Bretman points out, “have you noticed the mortality rate of her partners? Rest in peace, daddy.”
“He’s right, you know.” You mutter, dramatically looking to the side, “I’m no good, Corpse.”
“Not leaving you, end of discussion. Bretman, join us?” Corpse offers, catching you by surprise. He might still be lying, though. Creating a false sense of security before eliminating Bretman. Probably would laugh while doing it, too. Wow, he truly is evil.
Turns out he doesn’t have to do any of that, because when Dream strolls into Cafeteria, he kills Bretman instead. The two Impostors are finally revealed. You promised not to snitch on Corpse, but you didn’t say shit about not exposing Dream. You press the REPORT button and say just that: “Dream just murdered Bret right in front of me and Corpse.”

The last meeting is called. Dream had been voted out with the help of Corpse, and now only you, he, and Rae remain.
“Baby, you know what to do.”
The VOTED icon pops up beside Corpse’s astronaut. Rae wheezes, “No! Y/n, it’s not me, you gotta believe me, I swear it’s not me!”
“...I really don’t know,” You murmur, “I’ve been with Corpse a lot, and...Rae, I’m not sure...”
“Please! I swear it on my Kagayama cardboard cut out, I’m not the Impostor, please! You know me, I’d never lie to you like this.”
“She’s definitely lying.” Corpse says, sounding pleased.
“Don’t listen to him! Remember, during the first round, when he tried to convince us that you were the Impostor? He’s doing the same shit to me!”
“I also remember you agreeing with him.” You remind her.
“I was stupid! Small dumb brain moment! He was using us to win! He’s using you right now!” She votes, “Please, Y/n, make the right choice.”
You’re silent for a moment.
“I’m gonna...I’m gonna vote for who I think it is.” You lastly say.
A slow, lazy grin makes it’s way onto your lips, eyes gleaming mischievously. You had not forgotten your promise to your brother from another mother, you had not forgotten the pride of the BDA, you had not forgotten your beautiful friendship. Two miniature astronauts pop up by Corpse’s at the exact moment Rae screeches “YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!”
“Fuck.” Is all Corpse says with a laugh.
The screen changes, informing of the first CREW MATE victory.
Your ears are assaulted with different voices as you appear in the lobby.
“Now that’s what I’m fucking talking about.” Charlie raves, “I swear to fucking God, Y/n, you even got me going for a second. Pulled some 1000 IQ shit right there. It was fucking amazing. Best back stabbing I’ve seen in a while, and I’ve seen a lot.”
“That was absolutely fantastic, Y/n.” Sean applauds, “I really thought you joined Corpse like some crew mate accomplice or something. Can’t believe you switched on him at the last second.”
“That’s my wifey!” Rae cheers, strolling to you, “Love you, mwah.”
“Hey, Corpse,” Charlie calls him, “How does it feel to be a fucking loser?”
“I’m surprisingly fine with it.”
yeah he would be lmao
mom is the best snake ever i love you sm y/n
rae and y/n’s friendship....the feeeeeels
As the rest sing your praises for another solid minute or two, the third round begins. CREW MATE again. Though, just because you’re stuck as an underpaid worker in a dying spaceship, it doesn’t mean you’re innocent. Your last round proved that quite well. You can’t help but silently snicker.
