OK THIS IS KIND OF EMBARRASSING BUT BEVERLY (15, boy scout, uhhh my blorbo my little meow meow) HAS THIS BOYFRIEND IN THE CAMPAIGN. HIS NAME IS ERLIN, HE IS ALSO A BOYSCOUT (the in universe alt is Green Teen lmao), HES GINGER, I CARE ABOUT HIM VERY MUCH. I care about this relationship so deeply. I love them I literally cannot NOT gush about Bev and Erlin theyre adorable theyre amazing i adore them.
Im not gonna cover everything, but for context when Bev & Erlin got together (~ep 20?) there was a big war going on in their home city. technically the war is still happening but it has since moved. Beverly's house gets bombed etc etc, they have to flee to escape the city. They split up, with Erlin and his family fleeing, Bev's dad and the other Green Teens are sent to a different dimension (THROUGH A KISS FROM BEV AND ERLIN MIGHT I ADD), and Beverly and the rest of the party go somewhere else that isnt important rn.
Since that episode, Beverly has been collecting things for him. A book about his interests, a poster, some drugs?? i think??? Just little trinkets he thinks Erlin would like for when he next sees him. The DM and player of Beverly have said that the relationship was never planned, it just sort of happened, but after that theyve discussed a long standing mutual crush and other stuff that makes me weep.
Bit of a time skip to around episode 50? By this point, theyve had a few more adventures, and have ventured into this other dimension to try to find Beverly's dad and their friends. They do, and after a lot of hardship and other stuff, they have a big celebration. Beverly, in his defense, is a LITTLE drunk, and meets this autumn looking boy. To be perfectly honest they hit it off. At the end of the bit, the boy tries to kiss him, and Beverly very maturely says something to the effect of, "Im sorry. theres someone else." and leaves. at this point im sweating fucking bullets. I am way too invested in Beverly and Erlin to be normal. But im thinking, oh, sweet, a breath of fresh air. And then he doubles back and kisses him.
And there are so many factors to this. I am fully aware that Beverly is 15. I am fully aware it is both his and Erlin's FIRST relationship. I am fully aware that they will probably be fine after a couple of conversations. but the BETRAYAL 😭 I was heartbroken im not even gonna lie LMAO. I paused the episode and I called Raya to rant about this stulid bullshit 💀. Am i angry at Beverly the character? No. Do i think Erlin's gonna be fucking DISTRAUGHT? Yes.
For me, if it was in the moment and then a, 'fuck, sorry, i shouldnt have-" Thatd be more acceptable. but its the fact that he clearly chose not too and then changed his mind. 😭😭😭
And yes. Beverly has gone through a lot in the past couple of days. His dad and friends aged 25 years in a month. His Dad keeps telling him, after being away from him for several months, that if they are to let anyone die, to let it be him. Another one of his father figures is going through a MASSIVE identity crisis. A war is happening. Beings that are as close to gods without being gods are putting expectations and pressure on his shoulders. I fully understand that this is a situation that is not as bad as i have presented it and that it is fairly easily fixed. but I was so fucking sad? We havent seen Erlin in like, 30 episodes. Hes literally a refugee rn. hes going to be so sad. He is going to be sooooo sad. 😭😭😭
TLDR: I have an unhealthily strong obsession with DND boyscout bfs, and one of them cheated, and I am so unreasonably sad.

Okay, so, been reading some good scumplane (OG!Shen Qingqiu/Airplane) lately, because in this house we support Airplane being loved by terrifying/terrifyingly hot men, but also, like... I do love Moshang just so so much as a ship.
And all this has awoken a mighty need in me.
A need for a Moshangjiu fic with scumplane getting established first and then bringing our favorite popsicle in on things.
Anyway, scenario! Shen Qingqiu starts noticing Shang Qinghua when they're disciples via the classic scenario of being smart enough to realize something is fishy about SQH being the only survivor of a demon attack, begins paying attention to his most anxious shidi, accidentally shows his most anxious shidi the simplest of Human Kindness, accidentally becomes shidi's favorite shixiong, accidentally becomes friends with shidi, accidentally catches feelings. Continues being a Sneaky Bastard in order to figure out what shidi is up to (and now also to confirm shidi is single).
Ah, shidi is entangled with an Ice Demon. This shixiong will make use of his scholarly peak's library to learn all and then decide to- wait. Wait, it's super violent by human standards, but is it- is this demon attempting to... court shidi?
...
Not if SQQ dates him first he's not!!!
There follows a whirlwind romance between SQQ and SQH where no one really knows what's going on, especially the two involved, it involves a lot of shit talking about everyone else in their lives, snacks, and accidental trauma bonding.
Also Airplane being Airplane and accidentally spilling that not only is he also kinda crushing (bad) on Mobei-jun, but also Mobei-jun's entire backstory and please, shixiong, I know it all looks bad but this shidi's house is literally the only place in the world it's completely safe for his king to sleep, everyone deserves to sleep without having to worry about their relatives murdering them for things that aren't their fault from time to time, right, shixiong???
Shen Qingqiu: ...goddammit, the demon's a fellow sad little meow meow. (only not in these exact words because he doesn't know these phrases, naturally)
In a wild, bold, and - dare I say it - shockingly sexy convolution of thought processes and ideas, SQQ manages to finagle SQH into letting him meet with MBJ (SQH nearly has a heart attack three times in the process but it's fine, it's cool, this is his life, this may as well happen, it's fine-).
SQQ: It has come to my attention that my shidi is spying for you on our sect.
MBJ: (glowering at SQH, who is cowering behind shixiong wondering how he got talked into all this)
SQQ: However it also appears that this is merely a cover story and the only thing you really do is use his room to nap. And also that you are quite fond of him.
SQH: (This is it, this is how I die. Again.)
MBJ: (...if I stare straight ahead and don't change my expression, no one will be able to tell that he's right)
SQQ: So anyway I think you should join Cang Qiong Mountain Sect.
MBJ: (gears grinding)
SQH: (squawking splutters of protest and confusion)
SQQ: (who speaks panicking!SQH at this point) Stop that, it's perfectly reasonable. He has the head disciple of our logistics peak under his thumb, it would be the simplest thing in the world for him to have you throw the sect into absolute chaos without even trying, then organize an attack, swoop in, and crush us all. He could have done it years ago, but he never has, he never even seems to initiate anything. I don't think he even cares about taking the Northern Throne, I think he's just incompetent about wanting to spend time with you. So he might as well just lie low until our shizuns ascend and then I'll take him on as a disciple on Qing Jing and you two can stop sneaking around like idiots.
MBJ: >8O
SQQ: Are you actually opposed?
MBJ: (folds arms and looks away sulkily, because like... it's true but you don't have to say it like that)
SQH: 8O ...reverse uno...
SQQ: What?
SQH: You're reverse unoing my blorbo!
SQQ: Quit making up word-
SQQ cannot continue because the System just presented the option to accept this potential new plot line (even if it does have the rather confusing title of 'Shidi Has Two Hands'), and holy shit, Mobei-jun seems to be potentially down for it, holy shit, apparently Mobei-jun actually likes me, holy shit, SQQ may have just solved all my problems-?!? This is great, this is fantastic, this is the best day of my life, this- is a long time I'm being allowed to be myself about all this, why is Shen shixiong not interrupting...?
Ah.
It is because I am kissing him full on the lips.

At least I'm gonna die on a high note.
SQQ: O///O o_o (ahem) Shidi's- shidi's a really bad kisser.
SQH: Ah-haha, I can explain-
SQQ: We should work on that. Later.
SQH: (BEST DAY OF BOTH MY LIVES!!!)
MBJ: (I... did not actually hate watching that. Hm.)
Anyway, he agrees to the plan, SQQ and SQH start dating, some more time passes, the previous generation of peak lords ascend, the new generation take their places, and a week later Mobei-jun is an outer disciple of Qing Jing Peak.
The other peak lords are not amused, Qingqiu that is a demon, no.
SQQ: So what I'm hearing is that whole 'Cang Qiong will accept anyone from anywhere' philosophy was a lie then?
He's a demon!
SQQ: Children can't help where they're born. Now if you'll excuse me, I have classes to teach.
First lesson of the day is SQH and SQQ are a package deal, take it or leave it. Second lesson is no canoodling with Shang Shibo until you've finished with lessons and chores for the day. Third lesson is if you see any Bai Zhan disciples hassling our peak's disciples you can break their swords. Just snap 'em in half. Throw them off the peak. Don't kill them, but do make them cry.
SQH, meanwhile, has now seen MBJ in an outer disciple uniform and had a whole bunch of new awakenings on top of all the other things he already knew about himself.
And, in a twist of dramatic irony... Qing Jing's first disciple to ever have demonic heritage decides the dorms are a no-go after one night because, to him, they are broiling hot, how can anyone sleep in this heat, and chooses to go sleep in the wood shed instead.

When I used to be in uni, my psychology professor talked about identification, love and hate-
And I wonder, what does it mean to always be in the wrong team-
I always like the wrong and evil character, the anti-hero, always, like a plague, I don't care about the protagonist, they tend to be too much, naive, glorified, blind, coward - but not it's bad counterpart, no, this sad bad meow meow person is 10x better and complex, the good and bad, as every person is.
When we like them, it only means that we see and recognize the injustice they suffer, and more than that, we also know and accept their flaws, we accept and recognize their growth and loss of innocence.
I mean, Alicent? Little girl being hated because she is what women in her time are suppose to be? Obedient to her father's wishes, submissive, passive... but no, vilified as the friend who wanted (I'm cackling who would want to marry him, she wouldn't want to marry no dragon in fact, she clearly is terrified of them) to marry an old and sick man, the father of her best friend, forced to birth child after child as was expected of her because of course she wants to strip her once best friend from her title of heir, yes, it is written on her face. This girl wasn't having a day of peace ever - two children when she was seventeen*, four when she wasn't even near her thirties. A girl, sold, raped, judged and denied justice.
But her good counterpart? Oh, how glorious and modern of her to lie, throw tantrums and rage around, hide behind her weak father's judgements and run away from facing her problems and faults.
Don't even get me started on others... Like Hurrem.
A girl, enslaved, probably saw her family and people die before her eyes, sold from one palace to another, denied to practice her religious beliefs, denied her own language, letters, freedom. Condemn to serve.
But you see, look how pretty she became. Let's gift her to the sultan
Who knows the things they threatened her with, she was, before being a concubine, a slave, property of the sultan, not a woman, a thing.
The inferno she had to endure before having a son, before getting her freedom and a legal marriage.
But yes, she is evil, she wants to kill a child, the child of the woman she hates, a child that won't hesitate to kill her sons.
Because it is the fraticide law. Even her own children would kill each other the moment their father died.
Even to this day, Hurrem isn't remembered as a girl - who suffered and raise up to have the best life she could fight for - she is remembered as the evil mother, playing her children to be against their brother, the wolf among sheep.
Both of them, done dirty by the narrative. Two women called monsters, when they are but two humans, two women who suffered and had to reinvent themselves in order to survive and continue. I doubt it was completely for their own selves, but for those who depended on them.
I could go on and on about so many others, but I'll just talk about this two blorbos.

OC Poll Tournament Round 1 Poll 6

Eddie Alfaro (she/her) @calicohyde: Eddie Alfaro, she/her. Eddie is the third person narrator of my horror WIP Curse The Messenger, about her and her sibling Fred using their clairvoyant abilities to solve a paranormal murder. Eddie has premonitions in her sleep, where she dreams from the point of view of someone else as they die. She has severe PTSD and Survivor's Guilt from this! Because of that, and because of her grief for her missing parents, she struggles with alcohol dependence.
Normally, Eddie and Fred only solve the typical kinds of Private Investigator cases - theft, infidelity, etc. They are mistrusted in their community because of their gifts, as other witches tend to think clairvoyants are mentally unstable and dangerous. In the novel, they get their first - and only - murder case when Jessica Hase, a secular (non-magical) femme fatale, brings them the very weird case of her girlfriend's death. Throughout the novel, Eddie falls in love with Jessica, starts attending an alcoholics' support group, learns to use her gift to see the positive aspects of death, and tentatively starts to repair her strained relationship with Fred. And solves the murder, of course.
Eddie is Latina, 24 years old, and a butch lesbian. She likes sporty punk fashion, cuts her own hair, and doesn't shave or wear makeup. Her favorite color is red and her favorite flavor is cinnamon.
Chess (she/her) @concealeddarkness13 (the picture for her is made by the wonderful @drabbleitout, and she is the person on the left with the prosthetics in the picture): Chess is a special character, and I hope to show how special and awesome she is! She’s extremely distrustful, but she’ll trust people who even treat her with an ounce of decency, and she’ll protect the people she cares about with her life. She’s flirty and confident, but underneath, she has an abysmal amount of self esteem and thinks she’s a monster that will never have love or friendships. She is my blorbo who has been rotating in my mind for the past two years, and I hope you can love her as well! Someone described her in one of the AUs I’ve done as oscillating “between being a poor, wet little meow meow and a fierce feral protective lioness being held back by the scruff of her neck because she is still little”. (credits to @ratracechronicler)
She did start out with a loving family, but like all good protagonists, her parents were murdered when she was 10, and she was left alone. Especially because the society she lives in ignores violent crimes and the victims of those crimes, erasing them all from society as if they never existed. So, she technically didn’t exist in society’s eyes, so she couldn’t get a job or own property or anything. The people around her helped her for a few years until she was old enough to take care of herself, and then she learned to steal.
At twenty years old, she was kidnapped and forced into prosthetics experiments that gave her fire magic that hurts her, from her prosthetic right arm and left leg now. She has a magic fire in her lungs that flares up during physical or mental stress and burns her throat and makes her cough up smoke. Aeflin, the person running the experiments, believed her to be very strong (because she snarked at Aeflin so much and didn’t let her see her pain as much as possible), so she decided to make Chess into her weapon.
She changed her name (since Chess’s original name was Ezra) to Chess, and she put her through even worse torture. Finally, Naivi, the other person running the experiments, got Chess her own team and sent her out into the world to do what the experiments were for and to get her away from Aeflin.
Chess tried to escape that, but a random person found her and took away her memories and brought her back into the enclosure, where most humans are trapped. And she realized right away that the humans inside the enclosure found she was from the experiments and hated her and hurt her and called her a monster because God forbid women do anything (just trying to survive). She learned that the only way that she could get a warm place to sleep (not an alley) was to make herself attractive to people and flirt. She liked sleeping with people, but she mostly did it to have a warm and somewhat safer place to sleep. And even then, she’d have to stay alert because her partner could wake up and try to hurt her.
That’s where she is at the start of her story! She will get a found family and someone or someones to love! She’s pansexual and polyamorous and flirty, and she loves physical touch! She just wants people to treat her decently, and if she has to, she’ll fight to protect her boundaries. And she loves punching jerks in the face with her prosthetic! And we love a woman who loves to fight, right? Thanks for reading!

blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most): damn this is tough. It's really, extremely close between yaz and darius, but I'll have to go with yaz (why are 90% of all my favourite characters emotionally repressed?) But yeah she's super cool and strong and her character and development are super interesting and together with sammy they're just cuteness incarnate
scrunkly (my "baby", character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped): darius my baby dino nerd i will never let anyone hurt you (i want to turn him into a plushie and squeeze the life out of him). Also poor dude was going thru this shit at age twelve wtf get him some therapy
scrimblo bimblo (underrated/ underappreciated fave): I really don't see very much love for sammy, sure it's not like people dislike her or anything, but i feel like her character often gets glossed over (is that even an expression that exists?)
glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I won't shut up about it for a week): dave and roxie (it's two but who cares) honestly I have so much respect for them, they did their very best regarding the circumstances and i will not let anyone say anything negative about them
poor little meow meow ("problematic"/ unpopular/controversial/otherwise pathetic fave): hmmmm kenji?? He has some pretty good wet cat vibes in the latest seasons. yes I know there's also early ben but I don't know, maybe because I watched them a long time ago??? I know the fandom adores ben and I love him too but I can't really relate
horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason): it seems like a habit of mine, to always torment my favourite characters the most. yeah it's between darius and yaz again, what can you do. there's just so many good and creative ways to hurt them, and they're already traumatised so they basically do half the setup on their own

*kicks in the door* I heard you like Sigma and I need your thoughts on him (I have recently discovered him and I feel like I’ve slept on this)
YES... he is the current little meow meow of my heart... tragic enthusiastic astrophysicist with a good heart and a great voice my beloved
im gonna ramble now so---
you can see his origin story video on youtube and currently from what I'm getting there hasn't really been much lore for him since he released like... 3.. years ago? BUT there are little crumbs of information you can get and/or interpret from the voice lines he has and his interactions with the characters in game, some of my faves in particular being:
all the sombra lines with him where it feels like she genuinely cares and worries for him, she looks out for him as Moira and the others perform... definitely """non-intrusive""" experiments on him as he says (I am new to the OW world proper but I can't help but wonder if Talon's experimenting on him is part of why his mental state isn't improving as much as it should (his mind tends to wander).. it's already known that they just want him to be their living weapon and not actually support his research... I hope we get to see him changing over to overwatch's side and get life quality improvements with Winston's help)
the kill lines when you take down moira and doomfist, which are apparently dutch proverbs -- I wonder what his true thoughts are on his "co-workers" and if he truly doesn't realize he's being used
all the voice lines with him asking silly things which convinces me he would 1000% be the one roommate to wake you up at 4am to say things like "if two astronauts were on the moon and one threw a rock at the other one would that be messed up or what"
and... more, honestly, he's a HUGE DORK and while you can feel he's a sweet person trough a lot of the lines theres ones where hes absolutely savage ("death traveled lightyears to take you" when killing someone by throwing a huge rock at them via his gravity powers -- or, my absolute fave that made me cackle maniacally out loud, when interrupting Genji's ability "oh! sorry did I interrupt your swordplay?" LIKE... SIR.)
also bc I just realized I completely forgot to mention the main things about him:
called "sigma", his real name is siebren de kuiper and he's a 62 yr old dutch astrophysicist, focus on black holes, got his gravity powers from said black holes (experiment gone wrong), got emprisoned by the government and boy I can only imagine the trauma this blorbo has (was he receiving proper care??? therapy???? man is literally out here losing himself) and then got rescued by The Baddies TM (Talon) to be turned into a living weapon on the pretense of wanting to help him with his research
(clutches my little gay heart) I have so much love for this senior citizen I will cherish him and kiss he. which is really super funny because I started out playing him because it was funny to inflict ToesMan on my friends but then I heard him and more about him and turns out. I was the one being inflicted with ToesMan all along (we lovingly call him toesman because in most of his skins the only skin showing are his head and his feet)

ANGELA JANE. i know we don't get to know much in the way of cannonical characterization but i have read a lot of fics about her. i think the most influential has to be boy wonder, which is a wonderful how-angela-and-young-patrick-met fic unfortunately trapped on the horrible formatting of fanfiction dot net, but every time i think of angela i think of this fic and it very deeply informed my love for her character.

soooo. this got pretty long,,,,, because i don't explain george to people very often and i got excited. so a good chunk of this will be under a cut LAISUDHALSUIDH
george my beloved... that version of george is an overhaul of a dnd npc! the campaign never got finished after kinda falling out of touch with the players, but george was always my silly skrungle my blorbo my poor little meow meow. he was my favorite of the npcs and i didn't wanna leave him so i revamped him for my detectives story c:
george holds quite a bit of the same backstory. george is a human born and raised on another planet who helped his parents take care of a Celestial, Moon, a powerful being that needs to be kept under careful watch. bug warning but this is moon btw, but in the detectives story moon is much much smaller. after his parents died, george ended up joining the same organization that oversees the protection of celestials around the universe to make sure they don't bring about disaster. unfortunately this organization Fucking Sucks. they abandoned george back on his home planet years later when moon was bringing about a disaster (they thought he was dead to be fair) and he had to deal with it entirely by himself. he did succeed and moon is his very bestest friend in the entire world but it was a little bit very traumatizing
this is where current george and dnd george split off in terms of story. dnd george ended up joining the party when they were working for The Organization. i THINK current george may have done something similar? but basically he snuck moon into his pack and ran for it, ending up back on "earth" or whatever we wanna call The Main Planet in this universe before embracing the fact that he is technically a wanted criminal and teaming up with a mob boss. they're absolute besties and they get to be so silly together. george is absolutely living his best life as a criminal now. he gets to steal candy Whenever He Wants!!!
in the detectives story, starlight and george are presented as the main villains of the murder mystery when in reality they don't know who the fuck is killing all those people either. but they DO know someone who does, and she has begged them to keep dover, the main character and main detective on the case, away from the truth as long as possible. they happily oblige <3 and that's as much as i can really explain about george plot wise before i have to explain the entire convoluted plot to you c:
other fun facts!
george has a massive crush on dover and will NOT stop flirting with him. dover fucking hates him
george has power over gravity, able to point in a direction and make that direction "down" for him and anybody he's touching. he ALSO has a passive luck power that basically functions based on how funny it would be. he can't get caught by dover, just barely slipping away every time, because he is simply being so silly your honor. this doesn't mean he won't ever get caught tho
george is entirely unaware he has this luck power
moon is always just hanging out in his pack. moon will not ever cause a disaster because they love george very much and they like to be with him c: which sometimes means george will be heading out the door like "keys, wallet, gun- SHIT I FORGOT MY GOD"
george glorifies and admires criminals and cowboys and when he realized he was allowed to be both to the extreme he got So Excited this is gender euphoria for a cis man. nothing's under the mask or the shadows on his face he just thinks they're awesome
george is generally pretty good with kids!!!! starlight has a daughter, fleta, and george is like her funny uncle. there's a lot of kids in this story and they tend to flock to him cause he will dote on them and let them say hi to moon and yeah sure maybe sometimes he teaches them how to use weapons but in his defense that shit is so cool how can he not let them play with knives it's literally sick as fuck

Ok well now you've got me interested in your thoughts on crosshair, please go off on one I'll gladly read it
oh GOD where to even start
well first of all let me just put it on the table that i don't like the Crosshair Still Has His Inhibitor Chip Through To Season 2! camp like at all. sorry. i'm taking this way more seriously than i should but that's kind of the fun of it for me so here goes -- this theory does 2 things that i dislike about blorbo fandom-/woob-ification, for me: 1) his agency and flaws are wiped away in favour of crosshair being the universe's favourite punching bag pathetic little meow meow who everything bad happens to for no good reason just because they want to be mean to him through the deus ex It's Not His Fault Actually! mind control, granting him total absolution from, and 2) it completely ignores the narrative of the overall story which requires crosshair to have agency in his own decisions or else it all falls apart. there would be no weight to his poor decisions in the latter half of s1 and no weight to the batch letting him choose to stay with the empire. cody literally outlines the point of crosshair's narrative: "We make our own decisions. Our own choices. And we have to live with them too." -- the point is making bad choices and living with it and being better, the point is that he makes mistakes and is irrational and angry and so so heartbreakingly human, and as all humans do, just as he has a say in his misdeeds, he also has a say in choosing to be a better person than he was before.
having his chip be the influence causing him to do the idiotic shit he does is literally a detriment to his character at the point we're at now -- it makes him less interesting in favour of turning him into a Nothing sob story, and it's just a disservice to his character. even if s3 pulls it out of the bag as an A-Ha, Gotcha! where he does have his chip in, all that'll do is sink tbb to an F tier show for me because literally why. what's the point anymore.
crosshair is interesting/a favourite for me specifically because of how raw and human he is. he hates that his brothers left him behind enough to choose to side with the empire to spite them, but he still loves them so he keeps them safe from the empire despite it. he loves his brothers, he's a piece of shit, he protects those he's close to but that circle is comically small and he fails to recognize who it is that are in the same boat as him and who they should be facing as a common enemy (the regs and the empire, respectively) until it's shoved in his face (yaaaay character development). and he thinks he's special and talented and skilled enough to outpace the fact that he's a clone, he's naive enough to believe that the empire will ever see him as more than canon fodder just as long as he's useful, just as long as he's more useful than all the other clones, just as long as he's a good soldier, and permit me to connect this to my own experiences with being a minority but this in particular resonated because like. the people who hate me aren't ever going to see past what i was born as, no matter how much i put myself in a nice box and make myself palatable. and putting down others who don't do the same only harms the people who are my family. it's a worthy lesson to learn, and it has a lot of potential in crosshair's story, if they develop it further than the episodes we got with cody and mayday (doubtful given how kinda dogshit they are at committing time to these things but we'll see).
i guess in the end crosshair is compelling to me as a character who is all about growth. making bad decisions, choosing to be better, feeling and loving and caring too much or not enough and learning and growing and just being. human

OC Poll Tournament Round 3 Finale!

Chess (she/her) @concealeddarkness13 (the picture for her is made by the wonderful @drabbleitout, and she is the person on the left with the prosthetics in the picture): Chess is a special character, and I hope to show how special and awesome she is! She’s extremely distrustful, but she’ll trust people who even treat her with an ounce of decency, and she’ll protect the people she cares about with her life. She’s flirty and confident, but underneath, she has an abysmal amount of self esteem and thinks she’s a monster that will never have love or friendships. She is my blorbo who has been rotating in my mind for the past two years, and I hope you can love her as well! Someone described her in one of the AUs I’ve done as oscillating “between being a poor, wet little meow meow and a fierce feral protective lioness being held back by the scruff of her neck because she is still little”. (credits to @ratracechronicler)
She did start out with a loving family, but like all good protagonists, her parents were murdered when she was 10, and she was left alone. Especially because the society she lives in ignores violent crimes and the victims of those crimes, erasing them all from society as if they never existed. So, she technically didn’t exist in society’s eyes, so she couldn’t get a job or own property or anything. The people around her helped her for a few years until she was old enough to take care of herself, and then she learned to steal.
At twenty years old, she was kidnapped and forced into prosthetics experiments that gave her fire magic that hurts her, from her prosthetic right arm and left leg now. She has a magic fire in her lungs that flares up during physical or mental stress and burns her throat and makes her cough up smoke. Aeflin, the person running the experiments, believed her to be very strong (because she snarked at Aeflin so much and didn’t let her see her pain as much as possible), so she decided to make Chess into her weapon.
She changed her name (since Chess’s original name was Ezra) to Chess, and she put her through even worse torture. Finally, Naivi, the other person running the experiments, got Chess her own team and sent her out into the world to do what the experiments were for and to get her away from Aeflin.
Chess tried to escape that, but a random person found her and took away her memories and brought her back into the enclosure, where most humans are trapped. And she realized right away that the humans inside the enclosure found she was from the experiments and hated her and hurt her and called her a monster because God forbid women do anything (just trying to survive). She learned that the only way that she could get a warm place to sleep (not an alley) was to make herself attractive to people and flirt. She liked sleeping with people, but she mostly did it to have a warm and somewhat safer place to sleep. And even then, she’d have to stay alert because her partner could wake up and try to hurt her.
That’s where she is at the start of her story! She will get a found family and someone or someones to love! She’s pansexual and polyamorous and flirty, and she loves physical touch! She just wants people to treat her decently, and if she has to, she’ll fight to protect her boundaries. And she loves punching jerks in the face with her prosthetic! And we love a woman who loves to fight, right? Thanks for reading!
Crislie Crimsworth (she/her) @gailynovelry: The story of Crislie’s life is that she followed a really sad, really pretty girl out of her sleepy little village and got several new scars, a case of lycanthropy, a little bit of god-killing, and lots of trauma out of it. But she did get a girlfriend and a sick ax along the way, so it balances out! Since “sunset orange” is a mourning color in her country, she’s also a casual goth as well as a jock. If you become her friend then she will carry you around like a sack of potatoes and sometimes hand you a little carved wooden animal. I love her dearly.
Nat Finch (he/him) @albatris: I'd like to submit Nat Finch! he/him, 25 years old, brand new baby vampire. he works the night shift at dodgy petrol and convenience store Stop 'N' Go, where he falls asleep on the clock and encourages shoplifting. he's schizotypal like me and he loves cats, cooking, and his friends! he's the protagonist of my campy gory horror trilogy, though he'd rather not be!
he's short and fat with red eyes and lots of freckles. his hair is long and black, often uneven and choppy in length, because he just cuts tangles out instead of untangling them ❤
he's a sweet boy, earnest boy, awkward boy; he doesn't have many friends at the start of the story due to his paranoia, psychosis, and social anxiety, but by the end of it has a whole bunch of good friends AND a kitty he adores named Grub who purrs like a faulty tractor
in this story vampirism is a sentient entity and all connected via a hivemind known as "the Garble".... it lives in the vampires' blood and can manipulate their thoughts as well as give them heightened strength and speed, claws and fangs, and night vision when they need it. it can be useful, but mostly it's a bully and an inconvenience
at the centre of the Garble hivemind lives the very first vampire, an undead rotting corpse and the god of vampires, and a few of their close friends and confidants. all life force collected by regular vampires flows to them at the centre and grants them immortality and power. it's a sweet deal for the folks at the centre, and a terrible deal for ordinary vampires like Nat who rarely reap any real benefits from their condition, but are threatened and manipulated into participating in this system regardless
Nat's story sees him struggling to solve the mystery of how and why he was turned and trying to balance his kind, caring nature with his new violent condition... and eventually leads him to, "hey, I think I'm going to hunt down and eat the rest of vampire god"

huge drama queen (will play up being sad and pathetic to get what he wants)
vampires are hardwired to seek warmth and coziness so Nat is always down to snuggle 24/7
bouncy cheery overexcited lad who will grin for weeks if you say something nice to him

Top five favourite characters with reasons why ?
1. Mobius
She is the character ever. Autistic behavior. Cup noodles addict. My little hiss hiss. My baby rattle rattle. Would stab as a warning. Likes cute animals. Sassy bitch. Nurturing streak. Man-hating lesbian. Would beat up god in a parking lot. She’s even a mom.
Her only “flaw” is that I don’t actually like the color green
2. Mei
Originally I wasn’t a huge fan of her, but she MASSIVELY grew on me thanks to ER. I also enjoy her various event-inspired or fanart-inspired AU versions writers have made up~
She cares a lot and stabs her problems and I love that for both Mobius and her. Sword lesbian let’s go
3. Hua
Hua was my first love in this game, she’s just got SO much lore and she’s been through SO much and I absolutely adore how sincerely she still cares about others. She’s a tortured little meow meow but she stands back up over and over again
Also Shattered Samsara is my favorite animation
4. Elysia
I try to pretend the weird parts of her characterization in EE don’t exist. Elysia in ER is SO fun, incredibly shameless, makes me laugh constantly, gay as fuck, shady as hell but nevertheless incredibly sincere, mary sue subversion (damn you EE for forgetting the subversion part!!), just a living contradiction of a character and ever since last year I was HERE for it.
She’s kinda low because of how EE messed her up for me, ngl, but even with that in mind I’m still incredibly fond of her.
5. Kiana
I like her less than I used to for the very simple reason that her fans have deeply annoyed me through being jerks to some of my friends, BUT. Overall I still like her a lot. She’s fun to bully in stories, she’s a beautiful and passionate character and she’s had incredible growth throughout the story that I’ve found deeply touching. She’s also gay as hell which I always appreciate. I’ve been really happy to see her grow up and she looks pretty beat up!
Honorable mentions, no order in particular:
Vill-V (blorbo!!! babygirl(s). Just suffers from lack of screentime and lots of blank spots backstory wise, else she’d be higher on the list. I love you vivi)
Rita (deserves more screentime but she’s so fun. also looks hot beaten up)
Gray Serpent (they’re creepy they’re hilarious and I’ve loved them more ever since I’ve realized they’re a hivemind of momma’s boys)
