"No... No, no no no, gods, please!"
The gunshots still rang in your ears, your shoulder bruised from the impact with the ground.
"No no no, fuck! Christ!"
You coughed, your chest heaving with shock and fear as your eyes landed on the glints of metal.
And there he was.
...And there he was.
"No, god damnit! Fucking dumbass!"
Your voice broke as you crouched beside him, pulling him onto your lap, the blood covering your hands. Little bits of rubble and stone dug into your knees, but you didn't care at that point.
"You're a fucking idiot..."
You watched as his face contorted in pain under the mask, his bloody hand reaching for you. You pulled the mask up and off Hobie's face, revealing the face you loved so much.
"...You bastard."
You could feel the tears welling up in your eyes, curled over Hobie's body protectively.
You didn't even flinch when his hand reached out for you, holding your cheek, blood dripping down your face.
"...I don't regret anything."
His voice broke your heart, a little dribble of blood coming from his lips.
"...Fuck. Didn't know this was how I'd go out..."
You furrowed your brows, your clothes slowly getting warm blood soaked into them. Your clothes had seen many a thing, but never this much blood.
"...But I just couldn't. I couldn't let you die."
Hobie murmured, wiping his hands on his jeans before wiping your tears away.
Your heart sank even further, breath heaving as adrenaline raced through your body.
"No..."
You shook, hot tears rolling down your cheeks.
"You can't... Y'can't leave me like this..."
You hugged Hobie tight, your sobbing face against his shoulder.
And he held you the best he could.
"Luv, it'll be okay."
You knew he wouldn't make it to any sort of hospital. He was losing too much blood to even think about calling 112.
"It'll be a'right."
He sounded confident as ever, rubbing your back with his fingertips.
Your sobs wracked your body, tears soaking into your partner's tattered shirt.
"No..."
Hobie's gentle touch grew lighter, barely clinging to you, his strength fading.
"...'S okay."
He said softly, his breath faint against your ear.
"'S a'right, m'love..."
He reassured you, his eyes drifting shut.
It was only a matter of time.
"...It's okay."
