Wukong and macaque would have been so much happier as silly little monkeys on a mountain and not been encouraged to try to overthrow the government
I didn't like it at first because i felt like it watered down Monkey King's character because bro was just being manipulated into doing something he wouldn't have thought to do otherwise whereas in jttw bro really just has issues HDJFJG but ig it works for monkie kid. At the very least it sure does add some tragedy when Wukong gets blamed for everything when it's just other people using him as a scapegoat (which happened in the book too actuallyHDJFJG GOOD BOOK) and I will admit it's hilarious because once mac finds out he's like a h oops and backs off of Wukong like mad WHEEZINGJFJF

The layers to the brotherhood drabble. Wukong is failing macaque, and macaque is failing wukong. And neither notice. Peng is distracting macaque by their mean comments, but they care enough (obsess enough) to notice macaque is gone. Macaque sees peng notices, but doesn't think about the implications of that. Peng just being a little b*tch and doing their best to widen the macaque and wukong gap, and knowing exactly what to say to do that. The fact "Azure’s hand grips Wukong’s shoulder tighter" says a million things
Something something Peng sees Azure praising Wukong and gets annoyed because they know they're so much better than the monkey but they'll never talk back to Azure so they project onto macaque instead because they want attention Why are you so loyal to him? you're a fool. I notice when you're not here, be loyal to me, you're nothing to him.
It's kinda interesting because it definitely doesn't have the vibe of care it more has the vibe of jealousy of wanting what Wukong had and trying to pry Macaque out of his hands the same way Macaque kept trying to pry Mk out of Wukongs hands in earlier seasons, neither of them realizing that the person they're trying so hard to 'rescue' from Wukong is in fact the one clinging to him. Or something. I'm sick might not be saying it right but boyo it sure is interesting to see Macaque's behavior of earlier seasons being a reflection of Pengs wowee
Brotherhood (azure specifically) sure did gaslight the heck outta both monkeys in different ways! Bg putting Wukong on a pedestal and treating Macaque like he was invisible SURE IS SOMETHING

Usually when Mk went to visit Monkey King’s temple at the edge of the city, a place where there were a lot of monkeys, it wasn’t uncommon to find them napping on the tuk tuk. He always shooed them off before he headed home. This time around, it seemed he’d missed one. The little monkey poked its head out of the bag it had hidden in, looking quite turned-around. Mk had no other choice but to bring him inside. “You’re a snuggly little guy, huh?” Mk smiled as the monkey tucked itself under his chin. “I’ll take you back tomorrow.”

Early in the morning by the docks there came the sound of a flute rising and falling with the soft tide. Wu knew his students enjoyed being around for it in the morning.
The afternoon was a different matter.
The way Wu chose his songs was simple. He’d listen to his students watch videos and pick one. In all honesty he found it incredibly entertaining to watch the looks of abject horror on his students' faces as he started playing a minecraft ditty after giving them wise words of wisdom on how to build themselves up. It never got old.

It begins when he closes his eyes.
Time is a funny thing when you’re immortal. It passes by in a blink or drags on like something heavy. When he closes his eyes and breathes slowly, it’s a bit of both.
He can feel the life of the bugs, the creatures and the fauna around him, breathing with him. Cool moon, warm sun.
The grass grips his legs as it grows, the flowers twist around him and the moss gathers. The vines creep up his back and wrap round him like ropes.
Time passes.
The Monkey King stays still as stone.

To be honest, Mk wasn’t excited about it. He still wasn’t entirely okay with the whole… guess-what-I’m-a-monkey… thing. Monkey King was excited at least. He placed te staff down to the side with the bright declaration of “No training today!” Except it was still training.
Mk couldn’t last a single second sitting on his tail. He couldn’t climb trees as fast, he still tripped over his weird new feet. Monkey King picked him up and patted him on the back and told him he was doing great. Mk forced a smile.
He didn’t notice Sun Wukong’s smile was forced too.

Pixal’s grip reminded him of Cole’s. Cole was the elemental master of earth. He was strong. Really strong. Jay knew he was. He remembered the times he’d caught his hand with his crushing grip. Pixal’s grip was crushing too.
“Stay awake, Jay,” she ordered him. She always sounded so calm.
Black static creeped in from the edges of his vision.
“Stay awake, Jay.” He’d never heard her voice glitch like that.
“It’s okay, Pix,” he murmured. “I know you can patch me up.”
Her hand gripped tighter.
Jay let out a slow breath and his eyes closed.
He woke later.
