Encanto Characters Ages and Heights
Encanto Characters Ages and Heights
The magical Madrigal family is at the centre of Disney’s Encanto. But how old is each member of the family? Here is a list of how old each character is and what is the height of the magical Madrigal family’s characters. Encanto Characters In Disney’s Encanto, a whole family has been given magical powers, but that’s not the only exciting thing about their lives. When Encanto came out, people…

Hi, I'm curious about something and you're like the one person I know who knows both characters so what would a meeting between Usnavi and Bruno be like? Just wondering
(this is broadway usnavi btw, i haven’t seen the movie)
okay! so, i actually think that bruno and usnavi have way more in common than you’d think just from a quck glance.
usnavi is clearly deeply loved by his community, whereas bruno is shunned by his, but (at least before usnavi’s character arc in the show) both of them feel on the outside of things. it’s probably not a coincidence that usnavi’s the only one breaking the fourth wall in ITH. he’s really no more the main character than, say, nina, but he is the one who chats with the audience directly, and i think that reflects the fact that he feels, like the audience, that he’s watching everyone else’s lives rather than participating himself. the world spins around while i'm frozen to my seat. and isn’t that so similar to bruno, sitting isolated in his room, watching visions of everyone else’s lives but never getting out himself, or putting on his rat plays in his space behind the wall? they both view themselves more in the role of narrator or observer, not a character with their own arc.
it’s obviously got a different vibe. i don’t think usnavi realises quite to what extent he’s loved by the people around him (he seems absolutely baffled by sonny and vanessa being upset about him leaving) but he definitely does not feel unloved. i think bruno also doesn’t realise how loved he is, but in his case he also has very good reasons to feel unloved, and is much less welcomed by the wider community (though perhaps when he was younger, this was different). and i definitely get the impression that usnavi’s relationship with his parents was an affectionate one, not a fraught one like bruno’s.
but there is that sense, for both of them, of having lost the thread of their individual identity under all the pressure of legacy and lost parents and their role and duty to their community. and both of them are stuck. they're living a life that isn't where they want it to be, there are things they want and relationships they crave but they can't move out of the place they're trapped in. there is also the sense that some part of is their own subconscious doing.
i always interpret usnavi’s as a result of anxiety that largely comes from losing his parents, a past that he can't change but wishes he could: what if he makes a wrong choice and something else bad happens, what if he loses someone else or loses his memory of his parents? better keep things exactly the same, to be safe. and bruno's as a result of seeing futures that he can't change but wishes he could, and what if he is cursed? what if he is the reason things go wrong? better knock on wood, hold your breath, spin in a circle, to be safe. when your life throws you a pain that you can't control, you create a routine that you can control, even if it eventually takes over and controls you.
usnavi's goal for a long time is to go back to the dominican republic, apparently, but until abuela claudia wins the lotto it really doesn’t look like he’s got any intention of taking steps towards that. and bruno is very similar - doesn’t actually manage to run away, because he’s too connected to his home and his family, but he doesn’t know how to change things so he just hides, stays the same, watches everything else grow and change without him. i’d bet that usnavi and bruno have had similar thoughts so many times of like “oh i’ll ask vanessa out, i'll sell the store, i'll move to DR. one day. probably. not yet.” and “i’ll talk to my sisters, i'll leave the encanto properly, i'll go outside. at some point. probably. not yet.”
and part of that pressure is external circumstances, but part of it is self-imposed, as a defense mechanism. if you lose yourself in your work or your duty to that extent, if you hide behind the things that are honest about it, then you always have an excuse to tell yourself for the rest. someone does always need coffee or a vision or a stable job or to be protected, that's true, so you can pretend that you're putting that big plan off because you're just too busy with all that other stuff, not because you're scared to do it. stay in the store. stay behind the walls. part of it is kindness, or duty, or practicality, yes. part of it is fear.
oh and speaking of abuelas! (though, again with a very different vibe depending who we're talking abut) i think both of them are very led by their love and respect for the respective maternal figures in their lives, but that this clouds their own desires/goals. claudia says to her own mama, "i spent my life inheriting dreams from you", and i think that without meaning to, the same happens with her and usnavi about moving to the dominican republic. as soon as it was him making the choice alone, he realised that it wasn’t what he wanted. i think there’s always some part of him that does want that a little, i doubt claudia picked that up from nothing, but it’s possible that she read usnavi's vague ideas of going to DR more strongly through her own experience of missing where her family came from, the part of her that regrets not going back to cuba, and didn’t recognise that the indecision probably meant part of usnavi felt it wasn't right for him.
and that’s so similar for alma, though it's much more harsh and hurtful in this instance: she parents her children and grandchildren based on her own history and regret and fear and wishes. she wants a safe place to hide, she wants outsiders not to find them or cause them harm: bruno lives up to that and then some when he goes into the walls. and he convinces himself it's the best choice for himself and for the family, but it isn’t. they probably don’t even realise that it’s something he learned from her example.
neither claudia nor alma mean any harm by this, they try their best, and they sacrifice for it: alma locks away her own grief and her trauma to build a whole community from the ground. claudia could use her lotto money to go back to la vibora after days into weeks into years away from home, but it’s puerto plata that they’re getting a plane ticket for, usnavi's island, not hers. they’re both misguided, their own pasts biasing their perception, but they do love their kids.
anyway!! you asked what it'd be like if they met, not for a list of things they have in common or for an extensive meta about abuelas. tough shit i guess you got that too.
so. i think that usnavi may see the similarities between himself and bruno, but he doesn’t strike me as the kind of person who dislikes people who he can see his own flaws/insecurities in. if anything it just makes him reach out to them more. i think he would want to help. he’s been scared and lonely and saddled with too much responsibility from too young an age and felt like he lost everything before, too, but he’s doing so much better now, and he'd want to extend that hope to anyone else who is struggling similarly. and what bruno needs more than anything is to be shown kindness and acceptance, both things that usnavi can very easily give. i also think usnavi has absolutely no concept of people being weird, he’s extroverted and makes friends easily but he’s not exactly Mr Social Cues himself. bruno could say the most absolute batshit thing you’ve ever heard and usnavi would just be like “lmao yeah i get u :)))"
bruno, on the other hand, probably would struggle to like someone who he felt was too much like himself, but i don’t think he’d see usnavi that way. someone who has struggles, fears, insecurities that bruno does relate to, but who unlike bruno is also bubbly and bouncy and chatty, and who is trying so, so hard all the time to be positive (even when it would be healthier to let themselves feel angry, or sad, or hurt, even when it's blatantly obvious that they are feeling those things), someone who helps other people when they're in the middle of their own crisis and who thinks of themselves as just a totally unremarkable, ordinary, nothing-special person because they don’t see the way that everyone gravitates towards their warmth and kindness. he’s not going to see himself in usnavi. he’s going to see mirabel.
they’d get along great.

Watching the making of Wish
-Patting their backs for reusing animation as an homage. Like yeah, it’s nice, there’s work behind that, but it’s the way they say it, like: “We’ve worked hard! Trust us!” We know animation is hard and the problem with Wish was never the animation.
-I didn’t know Sabino was based on Roger from The Aristocats. I love Roger, he’s delightful. Poor Sabino just looks bland in comparison.
-They say Asha has her good and bad traits (which isn’t true) and is so brave to go against what she has believed her whole life. I've seen that done way better and with actually compelling characters.
-“She has to balance being a good friend and family member to speaking the truth and I think we can all relate to that” Well… nope. All those things can be different things. And both your friends and family should help you or at least listen to you.
-Saying that the “I want” song explains how the character is, like… duh.
-Well, yes, Ariana DeBose did great with what she was given.
-So Asha has freckles because some people of North Africa and Southern Spain have freckles… what? Any skin color can have freckles. And I can’t talk about North African people but Andalusian aren’t quite freckled (yes, that’s the name of Southern Spain). Also, I never saw her as mixed. She totally follows more of her mother’s culture. That’s why I don’t like her calling her father’s father saba. Her mother’s father would be her saba and her father’s father her abuelo.
-I love Bill Schwab’s designs, he’s a great artist. But he was only told Asha’s age, race and height. Which yeah, it’s important, but for designing a character you should think about their personality too, because that also translates into their features, hairstyle, clothes and mannerisms. We still don’t know anything about Asha. Is she shy? Likes comfy clothes? No, wait, she’s adorkable.
-They talk about Disney Princess gowns using elements from the current period where they were made (something quite interesting) but they just put the Modern twist in Asha’s hairstyle. Like, what were you afraid of?
-Maybe I’m reading too much into this, but Schwab’s just did his job with a model sheet and that was the ONLY reference they had for animating Asha for a while. Then one of them used his daughter as inspiration and then Ariana came with lots of ideas. They didn’t know how Asha moved for the longest time! Their lead character!
-They say Asha is pure energy, which is… somehow correct? Like she’s just awkward and making those weird moves and trying to be cute and funny. The movie is done and nobody knows yet who the heck is Asha as a character.
-Apparently, Asha has details of pumpkin seeds all over her clothes and she’s wearing periwinkle because of the idea of making her THE Fairy Godmother. I still think she looks better in orange.
-Seeing the voice acting outtakes was good. But now I wish the Bland Dwarfs looked more like the actors. All of them have interesting features that could have been implemented in the designs instead of making them clones of the Encanto family and the mother from Strange World.
-The first deleted scene is after Sabino retrieves his wish and he sings a song. I would have put it in the end as a farewell song with everyone joining it.
-"The Wish equation" is to have a true wish, be responsible of it and… finding support? Fight for it? Exclude fear? Accept change? What are we even talking about? A dream career?
-They say the FG gave Cinderella the dress but couldn’t make the Prince fall in love with her, so she was supporting her! Like… Cinderella just wanted to go to the ball. BAM, there you go, a new dress, WISH GRANTED. Cinderella’s wish wasn’t to make the Prince fall in love with her, she didn’t even know him yet!
-“Music happens when you’re too overwhelmed with emotion.” This clip plays AFTER a snippet of "Welcome to Rosas". I guess Asha was too overwhelmed with being late. That shouldn’t have been a song, she should have told us about Rosas in the book opening.
-They wanted it to be like a fairytale and then hired a pop composer. Like the director says she grew up with the Disney Renaissance Era. Which used Broadway music!
-They talked about this earlier but “This wish” was the song that helped them write the movie, just like "Let it go" made them rewrite Frozen. So you can tell they didn’t have much to work on, maybe an idea: “Hey, just do a fairytale about wishes for our anniversary.”
-The songwriter was so overwhelmed with the commission she had to reach a friend to help her.  Maybe because nobody actually knew what the movie was about? But hey, she’s the youngest to ever write a Disney OST.
-You know? The more I hear “This wish” the more I’m sure it’s the best song of the entire soundtrack.
-Hey, I know that guy in the archive! I’ve seen this clip before!
-I’m just hearing they didn’t know what the heck to do and dived into the archive for inspiration. I like the idea that they studied the greatest artists for some scenes, but sadly, all that is lost in the movie. They scenes are too short to appreciate the animation, but A+ for effort.
-They thought doing a fairytale illustration style was difficult to do… in 3D. Just don’t do it in 3D! Also, I don’t think it’s that difficult, Blue Eyed Samurai did something great.
-The composition is interesting and the backgrounds too, but the characters look quite bad.
-The illustration style led to the backgrounds (and everything) being in focus, which I think it also makes the movie look weird. Look at any old painting: the background is less detailed than the main focus (less brush strokes). They could have gone that direction. The backgrounds of Wish are too detailed a lot of the times and always in focus, so it’s distracting.
-BTW, most of this is: “We did this like in this movie, that like in that movie…” but, what’s original? What makes Wish its own movie?
-They talk about lines like lineart in animation, which we’ve seen it masterfully in Spiderman. But here is so subdued it doesn’t add anything.
-“Wouldn’t it be great to have a warmer climate than the one we’re used in fairytales?” Yeah, because there’s snow in Encanto and Hercules. Also, nothing tells us that’s a warmer climate. Google “Andalusia”, please. There’s flowers in bright colors everywhere, white houses, narrow streets and people, just a lot of loud and happy people. That’s Southern Spain for you all.
-At least with Frozen we CAN TELL it’s Norway. Here, there’s nothing that says SPAIN. Give us people eating serrano ham or tortillas, maybe put a bull around there, have them drink wine from botijos and play guitars!
-Again with the “this was based on this”. Rosas was inspired by The Sleeping Beauty: Germany and France. That’s a whole different architectural design! There’s no verticality as main focus in Mozarab architecture, is all about curves.
-“So it’s your fault.” Yeah, that doesn’t sound fun. I have the feeling you’re not telling a lot of things.
-You know, another Fantasia would have been great. Maybe one with all the Disney characters.
-This is now about the story of Disney, so yeah, padding. Also, way to use “At all costs” in the background. We don’t want to remember what you’ve done in the past, we just want you to tell a good story again.
-This should have been the beginning, the “wish upon a star” that put Wish in motion.
-It was going to be about the origin of the wishing star?
-“Return of Disney villain” Hahahahahahah…
-They didn’t know how bad Magnífico could be and made him do mean stuff like smashing Sabino’s guitar (they called it a guitar here).
-Also, apparently he was going to be shirtless in a scene. Like, you know, a Disney villain.
-We don’t watch him BECOME a villain, we watch a magic book CONTROL him!
-“With "This is the thanks I get" I was like, oh, yeah, we have a narcissist.”, so they didn’t know anything about Magnífico until the song was written! That’s why he doesn’t act like a narcissist much until that song and why the mirror ending felt rushed.
-“When Chris Pine came in I was like: that’s it, that’s the character.” Because they didn’t even had designed it? Like, that’s literally him!
-He did give it all to that song.
-Magnífico was an alchemist?
-“We didn’t want people to know he was evil right away.” Every poster and article: “Disney’s new villain, everybody!”.
-“Makes him more dangerous the quieter he is.” Magnífico in the end battle: eyes fully open, screaming, laughing.
-Oh, Star, here we go. He was going to be pure energy as well… just like Asha! Yeah, we were robbed. BTW, he’s not like Genie or Maui. Maui and Genie aren’t even the same!
-He could have been a fantastic creature as well. And all those designs look crazily fun. But also that’s the kind of exploration you do at the beginning of the production, not in the middle. Unless someone meddles…
-Someone went out to design different sparkles for Star but I could only see it being adorkable. Focused on the face so the sparkles weren’t even noticeable.
-“…they put their personality on it (Star)” Yeah, because none of these characters had any personality… nor have it now that the movie is done.
-People being made of stardust is one of the most beautiful scientific facts. “You are a star” is the worst song in the movie. No wonder it took so long to write.
-Nope, Doc was a leader. Dalia is just there… talking. Of course she’s a way to get the medal of  “we put a disabled character” but at least she has more personality than Asha.
-BTW, just saw the Story Artist wearing a pin with a Pride flag in the shape of a Mickey.
-“She’s just a young woman, going with her life.” “And succeeding.” Yeah, representation is good, but it’s better if you’re not talking about how good you are for doing it.
-Also, we have mixed-race representation, older people with dreams representation, etc. but hey, that girl has a crutch, we’re cool.
-“Animals in Disney have to be smarter than people.” Why? Just why? And also, Valentino is no way smarter than any of the other characters. So why say that?
-“(Alan Tudyk) He pretty much made the whole character.” Yeah, because it looks like nobody had any idea of how these characters were.
-“Inspiration can came from anywhere.” You just COPY-PASTED the ideas of others.
-“Everybody has seen me crying in the studio.” For a good or bad reason?
-Ending with a Walt quote proclaiming they always do their best job… huh…
-“It served the story better to have Amaya as a good person.” Yeah, nope. It made no sense for her to switch sides so easily.
-Sabino dying would have been such a strong way to start the story. Him stealing Asha’s diary… yep, not good.
-Reinforcing my theory that Disney wanted to move away from shapeshifters after the Nimona fiasco.
-Looks like they gave the chaotic energy Star was going to have to Valentino.
-Making any other animal talking surely was a mistake. What’s with the sassiness?
-Dalia wasn’t called like that?! BTW, the writers were so proud of her clutch not being mentioned but, in the deleted scene, it’s the first thing they do. Twice.
-“When you’re underestimated, they don’t see your power coming until it changes the world.” Whoa, just whoa. Disney writers, everybody.
-LOL, the deleted scene with the animals is so bad. But Magnífico was going to transform into a Beast, so… kinda interesting?
Here's the link, BTW.
And congratulations if you read this all. If you're interested, here are my own Wish rewrites: 1, 2.

Now that I think about it, Alma would be utterly petrified of the outside once she learns that there's a whole war going on.
To me, her first reaction would be to tell everyone (mainly her family) to stay within the Encanto. Just as a trauma response of sorts? I mean, the last time she dealt with a war her husband (and probably many others) died. (And I could be wrong but, were the people raiding Alma's town apart of a war? if not, let me know.)
So, her reaction would be to keep her family safe. But my question is, how do you think the madrigals would react to her doing this?
On one hand, I think some would be compliant because it's there a war going on and people can die from those. Staying somewhere safe is the best option.
But on the other hand, I think most of them would be like "I want to see what else is out there"
Also, personally, how do you think she would react?
And I had this idea where Isabela (and possibly the rest of the family) wants to go out and see the world and Mirabel kind of feels like "We just started bonding as a family and now you want to leave?!". Bonus if Alma feels that way too.
But that's just what I think.
Completely agree!
Alma would be terrified but, considering her character growth, I don’t think she’d want to place a foot down so hard. She wouldn’t want to stop anyone from leaving, in risk of limiting/controlling the family again.
Julieta, being the healer and the one exposed to horrific injuries, I imagine would have similar views to her mother. She probably would try to subtly try to convince people not to do so.
Mirabel as well. She’d absolutely take it awfully. And, she’s clearly one of the biggest homebodies in the family - I don’t think she could comprehend staying a night out of Casita at a friend’s house, let alone leaving Encanto. Like, what the heck, Isa?
The rest of the family, Isabela being at the top of the list, would all have a desire to see the outside world. While the others probably only leave for a short time to the closest towns/cities, Isabela would be going for months at a time and wouldn’t limit herself to just the local Colombian cities.
After a few trips with no harm, Julieta would cool off and could possibly be tempted to leave as well. Alma would be relieved and more comfortable letting her family go, but that underlying trauma of losing Pedro would still be there. Mirabel would never really back down the same way - her and Isa’s relationship definitely strained during the height of Isabela’s travel years. (They are okay again now, they worked through it).

I feel saddened that Disney has lost their edge movie and villain wise. As Disney has had such a great rogues gallery in the past.
I really haven’t figured out what the new villains are missing. It’s either that there isn’t a true villain, like Abuela in Encanto or Namaari in Raya & the Last Dragon or Callisto in Strange World, OR the villain is a true villain, but because the message of the movie is poor, the villain comes off as poor, too.
I mean, I made a post about the formula of Disney a while back and how they need to remember what the pieces are for: the villains are one of those pieces. They’re supposed to embody the opposite of the movie’s message.
So in Wish, the message was weak. “You have the power to make your own wishes come true, so keep trying.” So King Magnifico was a weak character. He still almost-represented the opposite of the message, but because the message is so vague and the story didn’t build on it, he might be a “true” villain, but he’s not a good villain.
Tumblr media
He represents the belief that “nothing you do on your own can make your wishes come true, so you should stop trying.” Kind of. Except, he himself believes that he has the power to make his own “wishes” (absolute power) come true—and everyone else’s. So his character falls flat. All that the audience is left to hold on to is Chris Pine’s charm, one-liners about his handsomeness, and empty stabs at chemistry with his wife.
What they could’ve done is had Magnifico be a true opposite to the movie’s message (vague as it is) and it might’ve been more impactful. Instead of being obsessed with keeping his own power safe (keeping his own wishes safe) he could’ve been the kind of King that is super-duper strict. Doesn’t even try to hide how strict he is. He could’ve had no magic, and in fact, magic is banned in Rosas and he tries to convince everyone that it doesn’t exist—
—because he believes the opposite of the movie’s message: “You have the power to make your own wishes come true, so keep trying.” He doesn’t believe anything good can com from reaching for “more.” Maybe the kingdom was magical once, and famous for being a place where new innovations and enchanted items came from, but then it was besieged because foreigners wanted it’s power when he was a young Prince, and the survivors were forced to flee to a secret island, and they re-established the kingdom of Rosas, but it was never the same.
Tumblr media
Because now young Prince Magnifico starts his rule as fearful King Magnifico, and he believes that magic, and innovation, and “wishing” for too much outside of your comfort zone, only invites trouble. It’s best to lead a safe, tightly controlled life with no risks. But his good intentions turn into an obsession with keeping the kingdom hidden and under control. So King Magnifico frequently holds fear-based memorials of Rosas’ history, and why magic is bad, and punishes anybody who makes too much bustle or tries to leave.
Everybody in Rosas lives according to tight schedules and curfews. They serve the King by making their kingdom fortified, but carefully hidden. No buildings are built over a certain height limit (kind of like an allegory for not looking up, not getting too close to the sun, whatever) and all old relics of magic that the refugees kept over the years are meant to be turned in. The citizens keep themselves busy by adhering to a strict schedule, where everybody is given the same rations of food, the same quiet farming jobs, rotating market days, etc. Because the whole idea is, “we’re in a hidden kingdom. The world is still looking for Rosas to take advantage of it’s magic. They can never find us—hopefully they’ll forget about us and leave us in peace and safety if we stay hidden and keep to ourselves and get rid of magic.”
Of course, this whole setting changes King Magnifico from a charming showman going on and on about his own handsomeness to a strict protector who’s public persona is a benevolent father-figure just trying to keep everyone safe, but under the surface he’s a dictator using “safety” to control with fear.
And the setting has to change Asha, too. Because you don’t grow up on a hidden kingdom where your whole life is on a tight, boring schedule and everyone keeps their heads down, and you’re the only one bubbly and ready to try new things. You don’t even know what that looks like; you’ve never seen anyone eager to dream or take risks or go exploring.
UNLESS, maybe your grandfather (who is barely a character in the original movie) remembers the old Rosas. And he has kept magic contraband from the time when innovation was the kingdom’s identity. And so while everyone else your age has grown up with hiding and boredom as the norm, you have a window into a world where things can be better and more magical. Sabino becomes what Scuttle was to Ariel, showing her pieces of a more wonderful world than the one she’s stuck in.
Tumblr media
OR, instead of having a grandfather who makes her think magic and wishing is not what the King says it is, Asha could start the movie totally drinking the Kool-Aid. Maybe she, herself, agrees with the King, because she used to wish for things to get better and believe that her grandfather’s hidden magical artefacts were awesome when she was little…but then her dad got sick. And she wished and wished for him to get better, (but we’re actually shown that, instead of the throwaway line from Wish) and he didn’t, and it shattered her faith.
Or maybe she not only wished for him to get better, but she tried to do something and step out of line to make it happen. Maybe her dad got sick, and her grandfather took out like a magical cup from Rosas’ forbidden history, and said, “he might get better if we just got him to drink out of this, but the cup is broken” and like 7 year-old Asha really believed that was true, so she used a little tinkering gift she inherited to try and fix it. But it didn’t work, and he died, and so when we meet her she’s this pessimistic teen who loves her grandfather but kind of pities him and constantly has to shut him up and shut him down about magic because it doesn’t work and it’ll get him in trouble with the King.
But then through the course of the movie and an adventure that actually has good writing, she starts to have a little of that 7-year old hope that magic and wishing actually could make things better, even if it’s hard to pursue them and risky to take chances. And that brings her into conflict with the villain, who has the same belief she started with only more extreme, and the movie
..would actually be at least entertaining or even compelling, even if the message is kind of vague and bland.
I did not mean for this to turn into a Wish-rewrite, and I’m not even saying it’s a good one, I was just trying to process what’s wrong with Magnifico, the most recent Disney villain who falls flat, out loud 😅

⚠️Long Post Alert⚠️
Alright I've seen a lot of (negative) buzz around Disney's new show "Primos" so I'm gonna put my 2 cents in
According to the Primos wiki, the show is about "Tater, an eccentric 10-year-old girl with big dreams and, unbeknownst to her, a certain “it factor” that makes her exceptional. When her 12 cousins (“primos” in Spanish) move in for the summer, they help her discover just what it is. Tater’s aspirations and larger-than-life imagination are seen via entries in her super-secret diary, which turn her deepest thoughts into grandiose animation sequences."
Tumblr media
FIRST, it's yet ANOTHER piece of children's media about the main character + their large Latin American family.
Upon doing some research apparently this show is about the creator's personal experiences, which okay valid. But when creating media that meant to represent a community it would be better to offer a DIFFERENT perspective rather than give us the same trope that has been done to DEATH.
Tumblr media
And I'm gonna be real with yall, I LOVE Coco and Encanto, but both movies also fall under this trope. Not all Latin American families live with their extended family, we don't need ANOTHER piece of media perpetuating the stereotype.
Also, Disney has been putting out a few shows on Disney Channel and Disney Junior that are clear knock offs of Nickelodeon shows. Some examples:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And...hm....lemme think....a kids TV show about a Mexican girl and her quirky large Mexican family getting into some Mexican™️ shenanigans...where have I seen that before...?
Oh right
Tumblr media
Yeah the premises are slightly different, but it's essentially the same trope so already right off the bat Primos feels like a knock off version of The Casagrandes.
SECOND, there are many stereotypes already present in the series just from tbe opening theme. Many of the cousins fall into stereotypes themselves, particularly the names. Some the names of the cousins are Gordita, Big Nacho, Nachito, and Cookita. I've seen people justify the use of these names by saying many Latin Americans are given these names as nicknames, which is true. But then again, having a characters named Nacho and Gordita in a show that's supposed to be about LatAm representation is just in bad taste. It's giving "Marco Diaz from Star vs. the Forces of Evil being half Mexican and being obsessed with nachos for some reason but not representing his Latino heritage in any other way other than him wearing that Day of the Dead themed costume in The Blood Moon Ball ep." It feels lazy, and of course, stereotypical.
On TOP of this, the word "Cookita" in many LatAm countries is slang for pussy and the suffix "-ita" means small. And the character with this name is the BABY. So yeah maybe naming the B A B Y character something that to many Spanish speakers means "little pussy" in a show ABOUT Spanish speaking Latin Americans probably isn't the wisest decision.
Another detail people have been pointing out leans into negative Mexican stereotypes is the use of the "yellow filter".
Tumblr media
Now I'm gonna be real and say I'm not 100% convinced about the yellow filter being used here. The show takes place over the summer, so the use of yellow might may be used to give the feeling of how hot it is, but I can totally see why Latin Americans would find this offensive.
Also the name "Terremoto Heights" has been heavily criticized. Terremoto means "earthquake" in Spanish and the earthquakes are common in LatAm countries. Then again, show takes place in LA, where a lot of earthquakes occur too. So Im not 100% convinced that this is flat out racist either, but it's definitely in poor taste.
THIRD, the thing that is being SLAMMED at the most, is the improper Spanish grammar and the creator's response to people pointing it out.
In the theme song, the phrase "¡Oye! Primos" is used a lot, which means "Hey cousins!" The issue with this phrase is that "Oye" means hey but in the singular tense, and "Primos" is plural. If you plug in "¡Oye! Primos" to Google translate you'll get Hey Cousins regardless, but in Spanish the phrase is not grammatically correct. In order for it to be grammatically correct the phrase would either need to be changed to "¡Oigan! Primos", "oigan" being the plural word for Hey, or "¡Oye! Primo" and make primo singular. People have been telling this to the creators of the series and well...they haven't exactly been taking it well.
Here's what the voice actress of the main character Tater, Myrna Garcia Velasco said her on social media (Instagram I think, I could be wrong) in response to the bad Spanish:
(If you can't listen to it I'll just summarize. Velasco says that Spanish is the language of the Spanish conquistadors and the only reason why Latinos are LATIN American and not indigenous is because of the Spanish, and to stay mad if you think her incorrect Spanish is an issue. She also brings up how they're "trying to make a good show" for kids who "don't have a grasp on any language" or something?? Idk that's pretty much what she's saying")
Basically this response doesn't make any fucking sense. "Spanish isn't our original language so it doesn't matter if I speak it correctly or not. I'm a NATIVE Mexican so it doesn't matter if I speak Spanish correctly or not"
???????
Girl what the fuck does this mean??? News flash, but the majority of Latin America has been speaking Spanish for CENTURIES. You go to Mexico or most other Latin American countries and you'll find them speaking SPANISH. Yes it's because of the Spanish but it's part of our culture now whether you like it or not. It's like saying "oh it doesn't matter if I speak English correctly or not cause English isn't the US' ORIGINAL language anyway" ?????
Now, the story IS about a mixed kid. Tater is half white half Mexican, so if Tater is a Latina girl who doesn't know Spanish fluently (otherwise known as a "No-Sabo" kid), then the imperfect Spanish would make sense. If the idea behind Primos is to represent the Latin American kids who don't speak Spanish, then yeah thats fine and it was a directoral choice. But judging by Velasco's response, that doesn't seem like thats the idea?? She immediately got defensive and brought up the Spanish colonizers?? Which is relevant??? HOW???
On top of that, one member of the creative team, (not 100% sure who) called someone a "Grammar N@zi" for pointing out the grammatical errors and, well...
Tumblr media
That's def not helping their case.
How the HELL are you gonna make show about a Spanish speaking Latin American family and NOT SPEAK SPANISH PROPERLY??? How the HELL are you gonna start beef with SPANISH SPEAKERS over whether or not it's important to speak Spanish CORRECTLY when portraying SPANISH SPEAKING PEOPLE IN MEDIA??? Yes slang exists, yes different LatAm countries speak Spanish differently, but grammar still exists??
OVERALL: Do I think Primos is this horribly racist dumpster fire? No. Are there MANY choices in this show that are just in poor taste? Absolutely 100%. Are the responses from the creative team outta pocket? Yes of course.
If you ask me, I think the main reason why people are so outraged over Primos is because the stereotypes and tropes are tired and dated, and people KNOW what writers are capable of. The response of this teaser, sandwiched between The Owl House ending and the premier of Across the Spiderverse, which have STELLAR LatAm rep, is proof of that. Luz Noceda, Miles Morales and Miguel O'Hara are SHINING examples of good SPANISH SPEAKING LatAm representation in children's media. We CAN have good LatAm protagonists in mediation, we've SEEN IT. We don't need all the stereotypes and overused tropes, so it makes sense why so many LatAm people feel like Primos is offensive and a step backwards.
Disney is getting lazy, they need to get their shit together

INVITATION PART 2 (MAKISIG X ANON)
Disclaimer: I do not own Makisig, Maliksi, or any other Planet Puto Characters that might appear later. They belong to @ask-emilz-de-philzmilz-de-philz
Anon on the other hand is you. So enjoy!
Part 1 here : Invitation Part 1
Part 3 : Invitation Part 3 (NSFW)
Tumblr media
You tightened your grip on Makisig's hand as you approached the light, instinctively closing your eyes. Makisig softly chuckled, amused by your reaction. However, second thoughts crossed your mind, and you took a step back. Sensing your hesitation and determined to prevent you from backing out, Makisig lifted your body in one swift motion. In response to the sudden movement, you unintentionally shouted, hastily wrapping your arms tightly around Makisig's neck to avoid falling.
Before you could confront him, he immediately moved toward the light. Reacting instinctively, you closed your eyes once again, clutching onto him tightly for dear life. "You can open your eyes now," Makisig's voice reassured you. Hesitantly, you complied, and as you opened your eyes, the first sight that greeted you was Makisig's face, looking down at you with a warm smile. The close proximity between your face caused a blush to creep onto your cheeks. In an attempt to evade this overwhelming feeling, you averted your gaze.
What captured your attention was the breathtaking sight unfolding before you. A lush, dense forest encircled a city nestled within its heart. Towering jet-black buildings, reaching heights akin to skyscrapers, glowed with a captivating golden hue. "Wow," you exclaimed in sheer amazement at the stunning scenery. Makisig gently set you down and warmly greeted, "Welcome to Biringan City." His words snapped you out of your trance, and you gazed at him with a questioning look. "Biringan?" you echoed, seeking clarification.
You looked at him and saw some changes in his body, his hands now resembled golden claws, and his complexion had turned unnaturally pale. The word "Biringan" flashed in your mind, recalling the articles you had read, and the tales shared by locals about a hidden realm where mystical beings dwelled.
Suddenly aware of his true nature, a wave of fear washed over you, causing you to instinctively cross your arms defensively and moving backwards. "W-what are you?" you stammered, unable to hide the tremor in your voice. “A-are you one of the Encanto's that resides here?” you continued as his true self somewhat piqued your curiosity. Makisig couldn't help but laugh as you defensively reacted.
Once Makisig stopped laughing, he looked at you with a blend of amusement and a hint of something more ominous hidden in his eyes. "I see the rumors of Biringan have reached your ears," he said, his voice carrying a strange melodic tone. "But I am no Encanto. I am a Tamawo."
The name sent a shiver down your spine. Tamawo's were known as shape-shifting creatures with a fondness for mischief and sometimes even malevolence. You took another step back, suddenly aware of the danger in front of you.
You swallowed hard, your mind racing with thoughts of how to escape this encounter unscathed. But deep down, you knew that you were in the presence of something ancient and powerful, something that could easily crush you like a mere mortal insect.
As if sensing your desperation to escape, he spoke, his voice laced with an eerie calmness. "As I mentioned before, I have no intention of harming you," he reassured, though his words did little to quell your rising panic.
"I want to go back!" you blurted out; desperation evident in your voice.
"I'm sorry, but that is non-negotiable for now," he replied coolly, his expression unyielding.
"But you promised... you said you would return me if I asked!" you protested, clinging to the faint hope of his earlier words.
He tapped his finger thoughtfully against his chin, a mocking smirk playing on his lips. "Ah, yes, I did say that... But that was only applicable outside," he replied, his tone dripping with sarcasm.
You dropped down to your knees, feeling utterly defeated. It hit you hard that getting out of this place was next to impossible. Tears filled your eyes, burning as they streamed down your cheeks. You scolded yourself for the stupid decisions that led you here. How could you have followed a stranger – no, a Creature – into this strange world, only to find yourself trapped with no way out?
Ignoring the intimidating presence in front of you, you covered your face with your hands and cried out loudly. The sound echoed in the eerie silence around you, showing just how hopeless and lost you felt.
Makisig sighed heavily, his expression momentarily softening as he watched your despair unfold before him. Despite his otherworldly nature, there was a hint of sympathy in his eyes, as if he understood the weight of your anguish.
He moved closer, his hand gently resting on your shoulder. "Don't cry, Binibibi," he said softly, his voice surprisingly soothing.  You looked at him angrily and shouted “WHY?! AS IF YOU’RE THE ONE TRAPPED HERE!” you cried out even louder making sure his eardrums popped out even though you know it was futile, yet in that moment, it was the only release you had.

Sighing once more, he spoke with a solemn tone, "Alright, I'll ensure you get out." His words halted your tears momentarily, and you looked up at him, a glimmer of hope rekindling in your eyes.
"But not now," he added, extinguishing that fragile hope with his next words.
Your frustration boiled over, and you shouted in exasperation, "MAKE UP YOUR MIND!" His indecision only added to your torment. "Are you letting me out or not?!" you demanded, your voice tinged with desperation, longing for a definitive answer from him.
He chuckled "I will let you out, but not right now," he replied, his voice tinged with an air of finality. "Remember, I did promise to take you somewhere fun." His smiled
'"What kind of fun can there be in a place filled with creatures that could kill me in an instant?" you blurted out, your frustration mounting with each passing moment. The absurdity of his notion of "fun" in such a dangerous environment only added to your sense of despair.
He cupped your face squishing it, like you were some plush toy. "Worry not, Binibini" he said, his voice oddly comforting despite the situation. "As long as I'm here, I will not let anything happen to you."
While he reassured you, a bit of relief surfaced, yet doubt and fear lingered in the background. "Now, just come with me," he continued, his tone coaxing. "The sooner we get there, the faster you can go home."
His words lingered in the air, tempting but uncertain. Reluctantly, you nodded, your determination wavering as you let yourself be guided deeper into the unknown realms.
Tumblr media
As you passed by a boutique store on the street, you couldn't help but shout in your mind, ‘Is that Dior?!’ The continuous stream of high-end boutiques, restaurants, and even auto shops that appeared before you as Makisig drove his sports car only added to the surreal atmosphere.
Another familiar brand caught your attention, and you looked at Makisig with shining eyes, excitement bubbling up inside you. "You even have Starbucks here?!" you exclaimed, unable to contain your enthusiasm. Makisig simply laughed at your cute outburst, "Would you like to buy drinks before continuing on the road?" he offered, his tone light and inviting.
"Can I?" you exclaimed with excitement, but the thrill was short-lived as a sudden realization crossed your mind.
"But..." you hesitated, feeling uneasy. Makisig noticed and asked, "But what?"
"Don't worry, I'll pay," he reassured, his words intended to alleviate your concerns. However, while the payment system in this realm intrigued you momentarily, your focus shifted to a more pressing matter—Anything you consume within Biringan could have dire consequences, one being trapped in the realm forever. The thought sent a shiver down your spine, and you hesitated, torn between the temptation of Starbucks and the fear of never returning back home.
"I can't eat here," you stated firmly. Makisig, ever perceptive, already understood your concerns upon hearing those words.  "If the thought of being trapped here indefinitely concerns you, there's no need to worry. I will make sure you don't ingest anything here that could jeopardize your return home." he said reassuringly.
Despite the tempting proposal, you couldn't shake off your caution. "No thank you, I'd rather not risk it," you replied, holding firm to your decision. "Well, suit yourself," he responded, as if accepting your choice.
The entire ride was quiet but not lengthy. Upon reaching your destination, you gazed wide-eyed at the gates, marveling at the scene unfolding before you. A long driveway cut through a landscaped garden, leading to a massive fountain adorned with sculptures of four naked ladies holding a vase from which water flowed. Behind it stood a large modern mansion with towering glass windows. The car halted in front of the portico, and Makisig declared, "And we are finally here." You looked at Makisig, still processing everything you had seen. "Is this... yours?" you asked. Makisig nodded, “Yes, Stay seated Binibini." he said as he unbuckled his seatbelt and stepped out of the car. With swift elegance, he moved to the other side and opened the door for you. "Mind your head, Binibini," he said, extending his hand in a gentlemanly gesture to help you out of the car.
Reaching for Makisig’s hand, you stepped outside the car, the door of the mansion opened, and came out from the inside was a silver-haired boy that looked like a teenager. He swiftly made his way towards you and shouted “KUYA!!!” Makisig swiftly catching the perpetrator. “What took you so long!” the boy exclaimed, clinging to his older brother like a little child, completely ignoring your existence. Makisig chuckled and didn't answer directly but greeted, "I'm home, Maliksi." You observed their interaction as Maliksi complained about his day, citing a quarrel with one of Makisig's ladies as the cause of his troubles. "Are you sure you didn't start the fight?" Makisig questioned, already seeming to know the answer. "NO! Why would I? They started it! Saying I'm not well-mannered and stuff!" Maliksi replied defensively before huffing. Makisig simply shook his head in defeat, acknowledging his brother's predictable nature of denying fault in any situation.
Makisig glanced at you with a wry smile, as if silently expressing apologies for the current situation unfolding. Maliksi noticed his older brother's attention being diverted, looked in your direction, and his eyes narrowed with irritation, as if upset that Makisig's focus was now on you. "What? A new one already?" He asked his tone mixed with curiosity and annoyance.
“She’ll be here for a while, so be good to her” Makisig said to his brother who clearly doesn’t welcome you with open arms. The tension in the air lingered, indicating that your presence might be causing some discomfort or resistance from Maliksi's side.
As you processed the situation, recognizing Maliksi as another Tamawo added to the complexity. Feeling a bit overwhelmed, you couldn't help but worry about the challenges ahead. However, Makisig reassured you, saying, "Don't worry, my brother will not hurt or touch you." Maliksi affirmed his words with a nonchalant reply, "Yeah, I won't. I respect my Kuya, and I also don't like ugly girls like you." His words stung with an unexpected harshness, leaving you taken aback by the blatant insult.
Before you could respond to Maliksi's harsh comment, Makisig swiftly intervened, smacking Maliksi on the head. "You don't tell a lady she's ugly," Makisig scolded, making it clear that such disrespectful remarks were not tolerated. You looked at them in amazement as you saw the two interact, their interaction seemed very much like how humans would behave, making you wonder about the intriguing mix of their Tamawo nature and human-like actions.       Maliksi looked at his brother with tears in his eyes while rubbing the back of his head. “I’m sorry” he said then looked back at you and stuck his tongue out in mockery. Before he got hit again by his brother he dashed back into the mansion, leaving the two of you alone again.
Makisig rubbed his temples and sighed, then turned to you with an apologetic look. "I'm sorry if my brother has offended you, Binibibi. Don't take it to heart; he may be a bit mischievous, but he's a good kid," he explained.
"Come now, let's get you to your room," Makisig said, extending his hand. You looked at him with a questioning expression. "My room?" you asked, realizing his offer meant you would be staying there for a while. Makisig chuckled and responded, "Yes, why? Do you want to stay here outside?" He teased, his eyes looking at you playfully. Resignedly, you sighed and took his hand. "Fine, lead the way."
Tumblr media
The exterior was already visually appealing, but the interior was truly marvelous. A blend of modern furniture and antique decorations adorned the space. You looked at Makisig with your mouth agape, wondering how much money this person had. Even if you won the lottery, it still wouldn't be enough to buy the interiors of this house.
As you explored the mansion, curiosity about Makisig's source of wealth lingered in your mind. Climbing the stairs, you encountered doors on the right and a garden on the left. Pausing to appreciate the view, you released Makisig's hand and moved closer to the window. The expansive garden outside lifted your spirits, and the vibrant display of nature captivated you.
Interrupting your thoughts, Makisig's voice whispered near your ear, "Would you like to see it?" his voice sent shivers down your spine. Blushing at the unexpected closeness, you instinctively touched your ear, reacting to the tickling sensation. Makisig, amused, wore a devilish smile in response to your embarrassment. Eager to change the subject, you marched forward, insisting, "Just take me to my room or whatever!"
Makisig, playing along, teased, "Wait for me, Binibini. Do you know where you're heading?" Pausing abruptly, you realized the unintentional nature of your actions. Angrily, you shot him a glance with your face still flushed. Rather than confronting him, you gestured for him to lead the way. Makisig chuckled and proceeded, with you following closely behind.
Stopping in front of a door, he opened it and gestured for you to enter. "Welcome to your room, Binibini," he announced playfully.
You walked inside slowly, the room impressed you, with a modern and elegant feel like a 5-star hotel. It had a queen-sized bed in the center, large windows with curtains on each side, and a terrace with a set of coffee tables outside. The luxurious atmosphere increased your curiosity about the man who owned this mansion.     “I hope it’s to your liking” He asked “if you need anything you just press that button, a servant will attend to you.” He said pointing at the bed table on the left side of the bed. He looked around and back at you, “If you need a change of clothes just take anything from the closet.” He pointed at the door at the east side of the room.
He affectionately patted your head and spoke in a calm voice, "I know this is a lot to process." Holding your hand, he pressed a gentle kiss on the back of it. His gaze held a mixture of understanding and reassurance. "And I also feel that you're tired now. Just get some rest, and I'll pick you up later for dinner," he said as he released your hand. Heading towards the door, he glanced back at you, offering a smile before leaving the room.
You gazed at the now closed door through which the Tamawo had just vanished. With him gone, a strange quiet filled the room. You looked around the place again still processing everything that happened to you today, your eyes stared at the bed in the center of the room. Giving in to the desire for rest, you flopped onto the bed, face down, and sighed in relief, releasing tension that has been building up on your body. This was an eventful day, and all you wanted was to sleep. 'Yes, Sleep is good. maybe this was just a dream and I'll wake up back in my hotel room' Despite being in a potentially dangerous place, you chose to ignore that reality as you drifted away into the realm of dreams. Who do you see as the voice actors of your characters from The Fallen Star au? P.S. The question appeared after reading this post: https://www.tumblr.com/annymation/740501852095905792/the-voices-in-my-wish-rewrite?source=share
OOHHHHHHHHH thank you for asking!
Okay okay so I will be recasting most of the main characters. Like @annymation, Chris Pine is still Magnifico because he’s literally Magnifico, and I don’t really have a problem with any of the seven teens’ voices.
So here we go!
Tumblr media
Asha is voiced by Cynthia Ervo!
I really like Ariana’s voice, it’s very much what someone would associate with the 3D Disney princesses. However, TFS!Asha has a completely different personality than most Disney princesses, and I want her voice to match that. She has a very strong singing conviction, and it’s different voice representation! Plus, Cynthia has HUGE vocal range, it’s seriously amazing, and honestly fits exactly how TFS!Asha is
And as a bonus, Cynthia was in Disney before!
Tumblr media
Cielo is voiced by Anthony Ramos!
I first found out about Anthony because of Hamilton, and I’ve loved him in everything since. Literally every character he plays or voices is similar to Cielo! Particularly his roles in In the Heights and Bad Guys, he sings in both too!
Anthony is just so funny and goofy, and has SUCH STRONG flirtatious vibes EXACTLY how I imagine Cielo to be with Asha
^This is the song I’m imagining when I imagine domestic royalstar. I’m only attaching the song instead of the music video bc it’s a tad suggestive and also, Jasmine (his then girlfriend and fiancée featured in the video) broke up and that makes me sad
But!!! Musical experience, chill personality, Spanish, literally all Cielo.
Tumblr media
Magnus is voiced by Chris Pine!
DON’T COME AFTER ME OKAY HIS VOICE SOUNDS AMAZING IN THIS SONG
It won’t be used like this in my rewrite but CMON IS VOICE SOUNDS AMAZING AND IT FITS HIS CHARACTER IN THE FALLEN STAR
Seriously, Chris Pine really loved his role, you can tell. “This is the Thanks I Get” didn’t fit his voice in the honeyed way it’s perfect in, and I’ll forever be mad at Disney for that. Chris is good in slow, emotional songs, which is why his villain song in my rewrite will be perfect for him
Tumblr media
Amaya is voiced by Carolina Gaitán
So I’m still not really sure about this one. Amaya in TFS is Egyptian-Hispanic and I didn’t really know a lot of singers outside of Broadway tbh, but Carolina is such a great one! She voices Pepa in Encanto and it’s a shame we didn’t get to hear much of her singing voice (besides that small bit in “We Don’t Talk About Bruno”) because she’s such a great singer! I’m not 100% sure of her voice, but I do think it fits and that it will grow on me. I also haven’t had the chance to draw Amaya as much as I’d like to, so I feel like once I do I’ll be able to picture her more.
Tumblr media
Valentino is voiced by Ravi Cabot-Conyers
Now, Valentino doesn't have any significant singing roles in my AU, but he does still speak. And I love, love Alan and know he has done amazing things for Disney, so I want to find him a voice in The Fallen Star too, but Ravi also voiced this little cutie
Tumblr media
And yes, it's another Encanto voice, but Ravi was so adorable and amazing and it would be funny to have his dichotomy with the deep-voiced Asha

(Doll divine traces and the sunset one by me, blue shirt Razili and Bruno by @optimistic-violinist, Razili headshot and Razili and Bruno by @lvnamuraart)
Meet My and @optimistic-violinist 's Encanto OC, Razili Edel from Take Back the Kingdom (sort of)
Full Name: Razili Edel
Age: 37
Height: 5'2"
Eye Color: Brown
Hair Color:  Nearly black/ dark brown
Occupation: Pirate/Witch/Former Queen
Languages: Yiddish (first language), German, Hebrew, English, Spanish, French, Greek
Voice (and face) claim: Ofra Haza
Appearance: Light brown skin. She has long curly hair that she likes to wear down when practical. It’s usually not practical. She frequently wears it in either a single braid or a high ponytail with some sort of bandana. There is a scar on the bridge of her nose as well as one on her left eyebrow. Goes back and forth between skirts and loose fitting trousers and wears light colored long sleeved shirts with gathered cuffs and her stays on top. Her stays are nice enough she doesn’t usually bother with a third layer outside of her extremely recognizable purple pirate coat.
Relationship to canon: Bruno’s wife in our fantasy kingdom AU. It’s… complicated. Long story short, Bruno is immortal and is waiting for the kids to show up in the future, he doesn’t know when he sent them and 200 years in (including 150 years of fighting the conquistadors), he is very Not Okay™ and in serious danger of succumbing to his pretty much constant suicidal thoughts when he meets her.
General: Razili is at her heart a kind and nurturing person. However, she is also fiercely protective of the innocent/downtrodden and does not shy away from taking lives when she deems it necessary. She has lived through a lot of heartache but she doesn’t let it make her bitter. (In our AU magic comes from heartache but it’s only usable as magic if the person can be at peace with/accept the heartache. Razili is the one that taught Bruno this and helped him reconnect with his magic after being cut off from it for 200 years.) Due to her backstory and emotionally healthy outlook on life Razili is an incredibly powerful witch.
History: Razili is the youngest daughter of the king and queen of מקלט בטוח (Safe Haven (according to google, if anyone knows better please correct us)  Like the Encanto, Safe Haven is a hidden magical kingdom. It’s an island in the Mediterranean that was founded by Jews from Germany fleeing the First Crusade (1096-1099) by the time Razili was born they had lost a decent amount of the traditions of their ancestors. One of the things she did after leaving Safe Haven was reconnect with her Jewish heritage and faith.
When Razili was 25 she was the one member of the family (She had at least 2 brothers, we haven’t really fleshed her family out that much) to stay behind in case tragedy struck, which it did on that fateful trip, making her the next queen. She nearly married the son of one of her advisors but a week before their wedding she discovered that he and his father had been the masterminds behind her family’s deaths. Razili killed them both but as he was dying the son cursed Razili to freeze to the brink of death once a year for the rest of her life.
She ruled alone for a few years before picking a successor and leaving to travel the world. In 1698 on her first visit to the Caribbean she gets caught by witch hunters who are rounding up magic users to sell into slavery. This is where she meets Bruno who had also been caught. They go through a series of odd events together and end up as pirate co-captains. After the events of a fic we will eventually publish that includes a whole lot of character growth for Bruno, tracking down the witch hunters, angst, pining, UST, and a whole lot of denial on Bruno’s part, they get married.
There is sooooo much more to her that we are excited to eventually share. As for now Razili appears in the magic lesson chapter of Take Back the Kingdom, this valentine's day oneshot, and one of my entries for Encantober day 4: Cold

Hi! Meet my Encanto OC for @encanto-extended-edition: Daniela Serrano :)
Tumblr media
Full name: Daniela Alejandra Serrano (& Madrigal in the future) Age (movie): 52 Height: 172 cm, 5'8'' Weight: above average Hair type: black, fairly curly Eyes: dark brown Birthday: 8th of May 1898 Details: a big, hooked nose, wide eyebrows
Daniela is a kind, creative and reserved person. She doesn't usually initiate social communications but is always ready to keep up a conversation. She has two close friends and otherwise doesn't have any people she lets herself be vulnerable with. Her diary knows more about her than any person alive.
She plays a couple of instruments and knows different thread craft.
She is sometimes very stubborn and rebellious because this way she reminds herself that she's still in charge of her own life, even when she doesn't have any strength for it.
Daniela is the youngest child in Serrano Venezuelan-single-mother-and-children-family. Her mother is called Maria and her older twin-siblings - Luis and Carmen.
She is a former 'gifted kid' who rebels against her mother when she's 18 and quits weaving. Daniela tries to find a new place in the community but fails A LOT, even if she works hard (which she doesn't usually do). She then drunk on freedom makes A LOT of bad decisions and has to be brought to her senses by her sister and best friend. At 24 she returns to weaving very disappointed in herself. She leaves Encanto at 35, after a particular person tells her to maybe change her life. She then returns home at 52 and sorts out her relationship with her family.
As a result, her Biggest Problems are: relationship with her mother, her perfectionism, avoidance of conflicts, rarely considers her own feelings and desires and poorly describes them, rarely opens up to people.
This is the shortest summary of her story, and I hope the least confusing one :)
You can notice green lines and numbers on the character sheet. These things indicate intervals when she and Bruno were dating (yes, this is oc x Bruno - I wanted to explore one thing I don't usually see in oc x Bruno fanfiction, which I'll talk about later, but this can as well be due to the reason that I don't actually read them that much).
Also, you can notice that all the phrases above all four Danielas are about her mother(s). Well, there is no reason for that at all.
I made her almost a month ago and I feel like I still don't have a clear image of her in my head, but I guess it will all come together when I start writing the actual story...
Also, tried to make a character inspiration sheet:

i binged the in the heights obc recording and was thinking "you know what? i love hamilton, but i think in the heights is dearer to my heart. something about the sense of community, the characters. hamilton was my introduction to lmm but in the heights tops for sure."
only to listen to hurricane and completely change my mind. lin manuel miranda you talented person you.
and by the way is it just me or is lmm absolutely devouring in hurricane? i watched hamilton live and the actor was very very good but nobody beats lin's hurricane for me.
his face when he goes "and in the face of ignorance and resistance" and then his desperation at "i picked up a pen i wrote my own deliverance" had me spellbound wtf. genuinely he's never been hotter. is it just me??
it's definitely not just you, anon! 😭
so i would probably say the same thing: hamilton introduced me to lmm's work (well, to be fair it was encanto not hamilton but oh well hamilton is the one that made me obsessed) & i genuinely think it's better, but in the heights is, to quote you, dearer to my heart.
hurricane tho... one of my faves from hamilton. & i do agree, lin's version is so special, so many emotions, like he's so sad & depressed at the beginning that he's almost crying & then he is literally aggressive while singing this line, i-
"genuinely he's never been hotter", i am thinking thoughts right now. 100% agree with you on that & i don't know what else to say. i just watched it once again & my brain stopped working.

《Abilities》
Gillactor
Using her feathery gills, she could easily mimic sounds. Just like a mayan death whistle
Flexibility
Since she has a small, skinny, slippery body with long limbs, she could easily be as flexible as a pro-gymnast
Rejuvenation
If she gets hurt or loses a limb or tail, she could easily heal herself
Truejuvenation
This is a power she gains from her weapon, but works as a once in a life time sort of thing. Similar to being Rejuvenated, but more powerful as her form changes to be slightly more monsterous, but doesn't change her height
「Charcter Arc」
Throughout the series, Aleja is seen as a bit of a troublesome gremlin. Always screwing around with the turtles and messes up with their mission so that she could take over or simply just do it out of spite to annoy them. However, the poor thing is just lonely. She was scared that people would not accept her at all, so she would take the job as a vigilante and take part on night patrols so that maybe she could be seen in a good and better light.
However, in the movie, when she got in the way in stopping our heros and their new friend from getting the key back from The Foot Clan, she was unaware of the danger that would be unleashed upon them. The Krang were released upon eath, and the turtles along with an injured Splinter, April, and Casey jr were forced to flee after they lost their powers. But this is where things change compared to the movie. Instead of getting the key, Leo would actually listen to Raph, giving Aleja ( who was somehow lucky to still have her powers ) an opportunity to retrieve it herself just to prove herself that she was the true hero here. That's when the Alligator Snapping Turtle would save her before she could be killed by the Krang, and sent her back to the others in his pod. ( Hence why she had his badge/button in a previous design, which she would still keep on her )
And so, Aleja would make a truce to get Raph back, and everything is pretty much the same thing as the movie. And then, there's that one scene in the movie that's going to be a real gut punch in this retold version...
When Leo sacrifices himself, Aleja would have a flashback to when Raph almost died saving her. She couldn't let the Red-Eared Slider die in the Prison Dimension. So she would quickly find a way inside before Casey jr would close up the portal. She would try to fight off The Krang for as long as she could, as well as getting her butt kicked in the process, but she would reveal something big. Something that was heard by the team back on Earth. The thing is, not only did Aleja wanted to be a hero too, but she was actually inspired by the turtles to be one after she had seen one of their battles. But she had a grudge because they had the only two things she never had; Friends & Family. She then told Leo that she wouldn't be where she was without his family, and thanked him.
Eventually, Mikey was finally able to use his mystic hands with the help of his brothers to make a portal to save Aleja & Leo. And as everyone healed overtime while the city of New York was being rebuilt in the aftermath of the invasion, Aleja had finally reached her redemption and befriended the turtles. Seeing them as the family she never had before.
~。• Spinoff。•~
Aleja would have her own spinoff that takes place after the events of Season 2 and The Movie, and it would mostly be about her and her own little adventures. Meeting old and new characters, and following her path to becoming a hero. She would even have flashbacks to before she was ever Mutated too…

Does Encanto (as movie) exist in Second lives?
Yep.
When Isabela finds Luisa, she is working in a shop that sells the Encanto Funko Pops. She picks up a Luisa one and goes to buy it - she doesn’t actually - she just bothers Luisa at the till.
Here’s an old snippet:
“Have you ever watched this movie?”
The employee, Maura as her tag read, shrugged, her eyes back on her phone screen. “I don’t really care much about those kids’ films.”
“It’s a good one. I’ve always especially liked the way they showed the family roles through magic.” She glanced at Maura, whose eyebrow tensed but showed no sign that she cared or caught on.
One more try. One more try, and then she would know whether she was wrong.
“I’ve always wondered if that was actually possible. To have magic. Maybe something like… reincarnation would be interesting. That someone could die and come back. Possibly already having magic themselves. This character - Luisa, pretty name, isn’t it? - has super strength, believe it or not.”
“Okay, so you found the articles about me,” she grumbled, sounding upset. “I was a kid. I didn’t know what I was talking about, and I certainly don’t know now.”
Isabela tried her best not to grin, but failed. “Really? Maybe you do know something in that muscle-head of yours—”
Maura sighed and stood up behind the desk, towering at her full height. “Seeing as you’re clearly just here to fuck with me, why don’t you just go so I can do my job?”
“Because I didn’t come all the way from Puerto Rico for this.” Isabela leaned across the counter. “Yeah, I read the articles, but it was just confirmation of what I already knew. I’ve been looking for you because I believe you. I lived it, too. So don’t bitch to me about what I know, Luisa Amalia Rojas Madrigal.”
She drew back from her, her eyes wide with terror. Her phone dropped to the floor, Isabela was sure she heard it crack. “Where the h-hell did y-y-you hear that n-name?”
Isabela smirked.
“Hi, sis.”
