Now that I think about it, Alma would be utterly petrified of the outside once she learns that there's a whole war going on.

To me, her first reaction would be to tell everyone (mainly her family) to stay within the Encanto. Just as a trauma response of sorts? I mean, the last time she dealt with a war her husband (and probably many others) died. (And I could be wrong but, were the people raiding Alma's town apart of a war? if not, let me know.)

So, her reaction would be to keep her family safe. But my question is, how do you think the madrigals would react to her doing this?

On one hand, I think some would be compliant because it's there a war going on and people can die from those. Staying somewhere safe is the best option.

But on the other hand, I think most of them would be like "I want to see what else is out there"

Also, personally, how do you think she would react?

And I had this idea where Isabela (and possibly the rest of the family) wants to go out and see the world and Mirabel kind of feels like "We just started bonding as a family and now you want to leave?!". Bonus if Alma feels that way too.

Alma would be terrified but, considering her character growth, I don’t think she’d want to place a foot down so hard. She wouldn’t want to stop anyone from leaving, in risk of limiting/controlling the family again.

Julieta, being the healer and the one exposed to horrific injuries, I imagine would have similar views to her mother. She probably would try to subtly try to convince people not to do so.

Mirabel as well. She’d absolutely take it awfully. And, she’s clearly one of the biggest homebodies in the family - I don’t think she could comprehend staying a night out of Casita at a friend’s house, let alone leaving Encanto. Like, what the heck, Isa?

The rest of the family, Isabela being at the top of the list, would all have a desire to see the outside world. While the others probably only leave for a short time to the closest towns/cities, Isabela would be going for months at a time and wouldn’t limit herself to just the local Colombian cities.

After a few trips with no harm, Julieta would cool off and could possibly be tempted to leave as well. Alma would be relieved and more comfortable letting her family go, but that underlying trauma of losing Pedro would still be there. Mirabel would never really back down the same way - her and Isa’s relationship definitely strained during the height of Isabela’s travel years. (They are okay again now, they worked through it).

in the spirit of the season (mutuals posting about their encanto aus) i wanted to post about mine bc i love them and am not active enough on here and wanna change that bc sharing my stuff is fun! so without further ado here they are lol

next gen au

pretty self explanatory. the story outlines what all the madrigals (mostly the grandkids) are up to in the years following the movie. mirabel gradually takes on more of a leadership role as time passes and eventually becomes the matriarch after alma's death and with enough time to prepare for the role. under her leadership, the madrigals are less shoehorned into roles and are encouraged to express themselves more freely, but being the leader still isn't easy and things still aren't perfect - while alma is still alive, mirabel often finds herself going to her for advice and repairing their bond further in the process. she also gets a gf (lorena), i've been playing around with the idea of her being an outsider that finds her way into the encanto but i would have to flesh that plot out a little more before i make it official. dolores eventually marries mariano, but only on her terms - she realizes quickly after the movie that though she loves mariano, she wants to take things slow, and mariano is more than happy to respect that. he puts in a lot of effort to understand how her gift works and help her out with it whenever he can, and for once, she feels like the one being heard. isabela, now free of her old role as the golden child, begins to let her more adventurous side out, exploring the outskirts and forests of the encanto to observe the plant life. she hones her gift and is able to bring even more exotic plant species to the encanto and starts up a very successful garden. she also ends up marrying two village women - lilli and rosa - and the three of them adopt a daughter, jacinda, together and spoil her rotten. lilli runs a flower shop and isa helps her out immensely with this. luisa finally learns to take it easy, prioritizing rest and relaxation after so many years of working hard to serve the community - though she definitely still loves to lift and hang out with the donkeys in her spare time bc old habits die hard. she probably takes over the care and raising of the donkeys as a whole bc they love her. she marries a village woman, inés, and they adopt two daughters, valentina and ciela. camilo is actually the first grandkid to settle down - he marries his childhood best friend and love of his life marco, and the two of them have six children together - amelia, imelda, brunito, ignacio, felipe, and sofia. they have their hands quite full with fatherhood but on top of that marco works as a teacher at the encanto's school while camilo continues to volunteer in the community, eventually becoming the drama director and soccer coach for the school. antonio grows up and starts his own animal sanctuary in the encanto that becomes wildly successful. he enlists dolores' help to scope out any injured or sick animals in the forests and nurses them back to health at the sanctuary, and he often accompanies isa on her trips to the forest to keep taxonomy records of the encanto's diverse wildlife. he never had much of an interest in romance - though plenty of people swoon over his kindness to the animals - but he is very fulfilled nonetheless and couldn't be happier helping take care of his animal friends. i have a more detailed timeline and bios for the kids that i'll be posting eventually but this is the main rundown of where the grandkids are at years down the line!

swap

essentially follows the plot of the movie but the sides of the family swap roles. instead of alma, pedro is the head of the family. pepa has the gift of healing food and felix is her clumsy husband, camilo is the golden child with the wonderful floral gift, dolores is the middle child with the gift of super strength, and antonio is the baby of his side of the family, cursed to a giftless existence (and being the main character of the storyline). on the other side of the family, julieta's emotions control the weather while agustin keeps her calm, luisa is the eldest with the ability to hear a pin drop from miles away, isabela is the mischievous shapeshifting middle child, and mirabel is the youngest member of the family and gains the ability to speak with animals. bruno is still bruno.  did i make this au entirely to put camilo in pretty pink outfits and make him a mean annoying gay? maybe.

pirates

the warm color family is a fearsome and renowned pirate crew descended from the notorious husband-wife pirate duo alma and pedro madrigal (the latter is dead and the former has long since retired), with pepa as the captain and felix as the first mate. pepa was estranged from her mother and siblings in her youth as she attempted to learn more about her parents' past, and she soon set out on her own to live the pirate life that alma tried so hard to keep her children out of. in the meantime, julieta and her family form their own rival crew and set sail in search of pepa to take their vengeance. bruno tries his best to be a good mama's boy and stay home, but he is soon taken hostage by the fearless captain hernando, a legendary pirate who has feuded with both madrigal sisters and their crews for a while now. he grows rather fond of his bargaining chip over time and bruno eventually becomes the captain's lover and first mate. when the sisters finally put aside their squabbles and unite to save their brother from their enemy's clutches, it's a very awkward family reunion. also everyone has their gifts and uses them to help their crew in one way or another. eventually when the two sides of the family unite, the grandkids take up a ship of their own with mirabel as the new captain. 

roommates

marco and camilo are college roommates with luca and alberto. that's literally it no linear plot just vibes. luca is a first year astronomy student, alberto is a second year student and undeclared, marco and camilo are third years and marco is majoring in education while being on the soccer team and camilo is majoring in theatre (🤢). alberto and camilo despise each other but also camilo is lowkey crushing. camilo and marco are already dating and alberto and luca are also definitely together but heavily in denial about it. they fight over dishes being left in the sink and decorate their dorm all cute

the fall 

wrote a ten chapter fic about this one so read that if you wanna know what it entails but tl;dr au where the family never recovers after the fall of casita and they go their separate ways, with dolores camilo and isa fully moving out, their whereabouts unknown - until, ten years later, mirabel takes it upon herself to track them down, reunite the family once and for all, and save the miracle for real this time. will she succeed? what have the runaways all been up to over these past ten years? read it and find out i'm not telling you! also this fic/au is quite old compared to the others so no marco 😔 fly high king 

mamma mia 

the silliest dumbest most self indulgent au ever. camilo centric of course. the storyline is literally just mamma mia but with camilo. he has twin daughters and one of them (ima) is getting married and wants to invite her other biological father to the wedding - the only problem is she doesn't know who that is, and if camilo's old diary describing all his old hookups in detail is to be believed,  there's three possibilities - marco osma, dante velazquez, and nicolas sorelli (the latter two are ocs, i'll probably post their bios at some point lol also nicolas is trans so he's definitely not the other dad but he's stealth so he's just going along for the ride). she invites all three of them to her wedding and they reunite with camilo for the first time in twenty years. drama ensues. camilo marries marco at the end regardless of if he's the dad or not (but he probably is - they never find out for sure). isa is tanya (so lilli is pepper ofc) and mirabel is rosie (except she doesn't end up with one of the dads at the end bc she actually respects herself). ima's fiancées identity is yet to be determined bc i don't have a partner oc for her but i do know she's a lesbian so. gay greek weddings! camilo in overalls! love wins!

runaway camilo 

this one is a rewrite of the canon plot to a degree but not really enough to be considered a full on au. plays with the scrapped concept of camilo looking completely different after the fall of casita that didn't make it into the final movie, which is like one of my favorite concepts ever especially because of how easily it plays into trans camilo. in this rewrite, camilo has basically used his gift to masculinize himself perpetually since his ceremony, which all but cures his dysphoria - that is, until casita falls, he loses the gift he had become dependent on, and it all blows up in his face. he's unrecognizable when the dust clears, and rather than be seen in such a state, he flees the scene and goes missing just around the same time as mirabel. the family is split as pepa and felix go looking for their son while the cool color family goes looking for mirabel, and both are found within a few days - camilo in the depths of the forest, skin scraped and clothes ragged from running into the forest with reckless abandon, practically digging his own grave and ready to give up for good. when he's found, it takes a LONG time for him to allow anyone to see him, much less recover from the trauma. the rewrite basically involves these events and the aftermath. luckily camilo does get his gift back when casita is rebuilt but the scars are forever and he probably still has nightmares about losing his gift well into adulthood and has to learn to become comfortable going without his gift for short bouts of time in order to get more comfortable lest the worst case scenario happens again! more or less a transmilo angst fest add-on to the main plot of the movie. mimi needs a hug 💔

Mirabel & Vanellope

Good morning, afternoon, or evening to anyone reading this!

My boyfriend and I have added to our Disney Descendants multi-crossover AU.

In addition to our original characters, we have established a timeline for the AU, and changed up the backstories of canon characters, one example being Vanellope Von Schweetz.

In our Disney Descendants AU, Vanellope Von Schweetz is actually Vanessa Madrigal, as she is Mirabel Madrigal's daughter. "Vanellope Von Schweetz" is her screen name. She was born right between Belle and the Beast's wedding and the formation of Auradon, making her, according to the timeline of our AU, three-and-a-half years older than Prince/King Ben(her exact date of birth is November 27, 1995) . She is one of a set of triplets, and she has two brothers. I will elaborate about them in another post.

She is one of the very first graduates/alumni of Auradon Prep(Class of 2014). At the time of the Descendants franchise, she is in university, studying mechanical engineering.

I will provide details of the events of the Wreck It Ralph movies in our AU in another post.

The last of my kinda follow-up to my Dolores/Mariano headcanons, but more just everyone interacting with kids/older sibling stuff/next-generation ish, thanks to a conversation with @princess-of-gondor and with Antonio being the baby, this one is mostly interacting with nieces and nephews

Madrigal Grandkids + Interacting With Children Headcanons:

Part 6: Antonio

Antonio likes playing with the kids in town. Whether older or younger it doesn't really matter. They're fun to play with, and think his animals are fun too!

But at the same time: he is the baby. Until he's 8yo, and suddenly he's the tío.

He likes his sobrino, but everyone's always playing with the baby now, instead of him!

He doesn't act up exactly, or say anything. He just mopes around pouting, and feeling more and more dejected everytime someone gives the baby more attention than him

It was bad enough when he was worried that Dolores getting married meant Mariano was stealing her, but now their baby is stealing EVERYONE from him!

His jealous phase only lasts a week or so, but he gets as far as packing a rucksack and planning to run away to the jungle with his animals ("Cause at least you guys still love me!") before everyone figures out exactly why he's acting weird.

Camilo and Mirabel are the ones to intervene. Camilo explains that he felt the same way when Antonio was born, and that everyone still loves him but babies just need alot of attention. Mirabel points out that the best part of having a new baby in the family when you're a kid still is getting a tiny new best friend, just like she got when he was born, but he has to be there for the baby in order for them to become friends.

After their talk he goes up to his sister's room, snuggles up beside her, and asks if he can hold baby Pedro

Mirabel is right that a new baby relative is a tiny new best friend, and Antonio is quickly besotted

After school everyday Antonio takes to racing home (or to find who has the baby that day) to play with his nephew

Is still school aged himself when Pedro II starts school, so the two of them go to school together.

Antonio gets teased a little by some of the kids his age and a bit older for letting his nephew tag along as much as he does, and playing with younger kids in general, but he doesn't mind. The younger kids in the village still adore playing with him and all his animals, and he cares more about what his neices and nephews think of him than random older kids

Pedro II is close enough in age to him that of course he's tito rather than tío. And with the other kids who are born when he's still a kid/young teen he doesn't mind the trend continuing at first. But he's an adult (barely) by the time the last of his neices and nephews are born and they still call him 'little uncle' too! And of course telling his family that he finds it embarrassing would only result in more teasing! He's pretty sure as is someone is already actively teaching the youngest kids to call him tito just to bug him (it's absolutely everyone) [Forgive me if this isn't regionally accurate! The internet says 'tito' means 'little uncle' in some Spanish dialects, but not all, and I couldn't find if Colombian was one of them, but found this idea too cute not to include]

He's the fun teenage uncle who's closer in age to most of his neices and nephews than he is to his siblings and cousins. He's still younger than Isabela and Dolores were at his birth when he becomes an uncle for the 9/10th time

Isabela doesn’t have kids, and Dolores is the only one who has more than 3, but needless to say with the total of 15 kids there are running around Casita, Antonio would kinda be forced to be great with his neices and nephews even if he didn't want to.

Absolutely loves all of his little monkeys. Comments when Pedro II is about 8mo that he kinda looks and acts like an adorable little monkey at this point, and the nickname just sticks for all the kids.

He will 110% play with the kids, tossing them in the air and giving them rides on various animals all the time. His room is as much a playground for them as it is for him.

Not sure why Abuela freaks out a little bit the first time she sees one of the babies being hugged by one of his snakes though. Of course he's not gonna let any of the kids near any animal that's gonna hurt them!

Is still young and single by the time his oldest neices and nephews are developing their first crushes, and definitely helps wingman for them.

It is however a bit awkward when you're 22yo and your 14yo nephew and 11yo neices are trying to be your wingmen in turn. Does not work as well as when Camilo would have them be his wingmen when they were toddlers...

(And Antonio probably does eventually get married and have kids, but he is so much a baby in canon that I can't quite imagine that far out, so we'll stop here)

While it’s obviously canon that Chris has an inferiority complex to Wyatt, I think that Melinda also has a complex relationship with being “Wyatt’s sister” and how she’s viewed through that lens. It’s definitely not the same thing at all, but I do think that it’s definitely a factor for her relationship with Wyatt and the magical community as well. 

With that said, I don’t necessarily think that Wyatt really gets Chris or Mel’s issues with it, but I do think that he’s at least aware of them. There are a lot of italics in that sentence, but my main thought is that Wyatt has, at the very least, the knowledge that both of his siblings dislike the way that they’re perceived or seen through/as their relationship to him.

Which is why I think that one of the fastest ways to get Wyatt to like you, beyond just the immediate surface level, is to flip the script to prioritize Chris/Mel respectively. Like Bianca meets Wyatt and just goes, so you’re Chris’s brother and Wyatt is immediately like. I like her :)

And before you comment - Mirabel is intentionally not on the list (if I added her, she’ll win as the main character) because her trauma alone should be reason enough to why she shouldn’t be forced into this role. And it defeats the whole purpose of “not being special”.

"Oh, mama! Did you know that Tío Abuelo once burned down the kitchen to make Tía a wedding cake?" Beatriz babled happily, dangling her legs as Dolores kept combing her dark coily hair.

She had to admit that her youngest was always pretty fond of history. Either from listening to her older siblings or cousins of varying degrees of kinship doing their homework or just asking for some stories from her mother's past, Time traveling was probably a pretty fit gift for her. At least now, Beatriz won't ask for twenty stories per day. 

Braiding curly hair is such a terrible thing to do. Dolores can only hope that both of her daughters will soon be old enough to do it themselves. Dolores had enough troubles with doing her pineapple already. Well, at least Gael was old enough not to need any assistance in this matter.

"He set his own sleeve on fire!" The young girl announced it with all her excitement, and Dolore winced from screaming. "Sorry, mami," Beatriz mumbled quickly, realizing that she said it too loudly.

The woman sighed, patting her daughter's head. "Don't worry, mija, it's okay." She whispered, separating Beatriz's thick hair into wisps. Well, Dolores couldn't say she didn't expect this from her Tío Agústin. It would actually be way more surprising if he didn't end up hurting himself that day. Or any other. 

Beatriz continued to tell what was going on. "I tried to call Bisabuela, but because they couldn't see me, it turned into a blaze." The woman had to admit that it was great information. Everyone knew that her mama caused a hurricane on her wedding day. It's good to know that Tía also had something messy that many years ago. "And Abuelo... —Ouch!" The girl let out a short cry as the comb clambed up onto the knot in her hair.

"Lo siento, are you okay?" Dolores muttered worriedly, throwing a quick look at the clock on the wall. Oh, well, it's usually the time when Gabriela wakes up...

She closed her eyes, focusing on footsteps that were getting closer at a trotting pace.. Well... Three... two... one...

"Mama, it's my turn!" Her middle child demanded, breaking through the door, making Casita click it dalles resentfully.

Beatriz almost jumped off the chair. "No, mama is combing my hair now!" She exclaimed, crossing her arms confidently as her hermana ran down the stairs to get closer to them.

Gabriela threw her hair into the air. "No, you've promised to start doing my hair firstly today!"

Dolores sighed. "Gabi, you have to wake up earlier for that," Beatriz giggled, showing her tongue. "Bea, no," Dolores demanded, making both of her daughters go quiet. Gabi was a big sleeper, barely managing to wake up by school time most of the days. Not like Dolores could actually blame her, being an early bird was inherited from Tía Julieta's side of the family, not theirs.

A moment later, Gabriela stared at her mother, green eyes sparkling with pleading. "Mami, please!" A moment later, she added. "I'm the best student in my class!" Honestly, she was probably the best in the whole school.

Beatriz scoffed. "You're just good at remembering." Dolores couldn't say it wasn't true; Gabri's gift has definitely helped her in educational order. But that's just how their lives were. No one could blame Gabriela for her ability to memorize everything she once heard.

Dolores sighed and stared at both of them strictly. "Girls, if you won't close your mouths, I won't bable either of you. You'd just have to stay disheveled." This threat was enough for them both to stop, now turning their attention to her.

Gabriela crossed her arms, looking like she was a teacher getting ready to scold her student. "No, mama, how many times did you say that if I don't do this, then my hair will have a lot of knots?" She looked down, counting on her fingers. "More than forty-nine in the last two months!"

Oh, yes, having a child who can remember every word you'd ever said to the smallest detail feels so bizarre. Especially when this child had such a fair conceit of herself even before getting her gift. Dolores chuckled, patting Gabriela's shoulder. "Ah, sí. You're such a clever little girl."

Gabi nodded confidently. "Of course I am!" Her face brightened with a huge smile.

"But I'm still smarter!" Beatriz interrupted her, displeased with losing her fair share of attention. 

"You're not!"

The younger girl scoffed, shrugging a little. "You can remember only what you've heard! I can know anything that ever happened!" Dolores tried to pit her palm forward, hoping that this would stop both girls, but they ignored her, keeping up with their usual argument.

Gabriela rolled her eyes, chuckling a little. "But it takes too much time." Their mom couldn't help but think about the times when she and Camilo argued about which gift would make it easier to cheat on exams. Okay... arguing about who's actually smarter was probably way better than bragging that you could break the rules. Oh, what a good time it was, back when things were so easy.

Dolores sighed, shaking her head with a slight snigger. Yes, those two are definitely siblings.

camilo's husband is marco osma (but ofc he takes the madrigal name when they get married), for those who don't know that's this guy (he has no canon name or backstory as of yet but the marco nation is still devoted i prommy. in my hc he's sra. pezmuerto and jose's son and alejandra is his little sister!)

their eldest is amelia or ami, she's the one in the red dress. her gift is self-duplication and she was born when camilo and marco were about 20

the one in the yellow is imelda or ima, her situation is kinda unique because she's actually one of ami's clones - she appeared the day of ami's gift ceremony and gained a mind of her own and hasn't left since. she's basically ami's identical twin sister but she deliberately has a very different style and personality from ami to avoid being mistaken for her (also she picked her name to be the literal inverse of her sister's name on purpose too bc shes funny like that)

the boy in green is named after bruno but usually goes by brunito, his gift is invisibility at will and he's five years younger than the twins

the youngest three are triplets - the boy in red is the oldest, the boy in blue is the middle triplet, and the girl in orange is the youngest. their names are ignacio, felipe, and sofia and their gifts are pyromancy, water manipulation, and super enhanced vision respectively. there's a pretty big gap between them and their other siblings, they're about ten years younger than brunito

basically tldr marco and camilo are very very tired! but they are great dads
