Week One: Introduction!
@encanto-extended-edition
OMG how have I never done a proper introduction of my girl??? Anyways…
Full name: Angela Leilani Yaamil Morales Estrada
Age at the time of the movie: 48 years old (December 8th, 1901)
Angel was initially a name holder for the reader insert in my fic, “Why did it have to be me?” She was never intended to become a full fledged OC, but thanks to several supportive friends, Angela evolved into what she is now.
Angela is born to parents Guillermo and Anamaria in 1901, and shortly after childbirth, Anamaria sadly passes away, leaving Angela to be raised primarily by Anamaria’s parents, Quinuama and Raymundo. She is the youngest of six cousins on her maternal side, and she knows very little about her father’s extended family. The passing of Anamaria puts Guillermo in an inconsolable depression, leaving his daughter to be brought up by her grandparents due to his emotional absence. Her family owns and runs a tailoring shop in the Encanto, renowned for their fine fiber arts and beautifully crafted clothes. Angela is best known for her impressive bead work and crocheting, as she enjoys fixating on tiny details.
At age five, she befriends the Madrigal triplets, the four of them becoming close companions, but especially between Angela and Bruno. The two of them grow close over the years, considering the other to be their best friend. I’ll save the juicy details of their companionship for Week two, but to summarize, their friendship takes a dramatic twist following the breakup of Angela and her fiancé when she is 19.
Following in her mother’s footsteps, she joins the church choir at a young age, and quickly blossoms into a vocal star, devoting her time to organizing musical events and writing songs. Later in life, she takes to traveling outside of the Encanto, something inside her yearning to know more about the world and escape the limitations she feels trapped in. She gains herself a notable reputation as a performer in multiple social clubs and lounges, her name taking her across South America, and eventually across the sea.
Angela’s personality and mannerisms are based a lot on my own. She is extremely caring and compassionate for others, but often has a hard time deciphering her own emotions, and will usually bottle up her complicated feelings to save herself from causing trouble. She is often lovingly criticized as being overly dramatic by her family and friends, causing her to become extremely cautious and anxious about how she presents herself to others. Sometimes, something small will set off her temper, and she gets very cold and unresponsive as a defense mechanism, or if something makes her deeply upset after a buildup of repressed feelings and stress, she will fall apart into tears. Often times, her stimming gets interpreted as flirtatious behavior, and her attempts at masking usually have the same effect (hair twirling, too much eye contact, smiling and nodding).
A few little bits of information and trivia:
The bracelet she is almost always seen wearing was gifted to her on her fifth birthday. It had originally belonged to her mother. It is made up of pearls, jade, and a thin gold chain. Her rosary is constructed of similar materials.
Leilani was her intended name in canon, as Guillermo wanted to name her after his mother, but Anamaria immediately called her baby ‘her angel’ when she was born, so the name Angela was chosen instead and Leilani was bestowed as her second name.
I imagine her voice sounding like that of Angela Aguilar when she’s younger, and evolving into a vocal powerhouse like Beyoncé or Selena.
She is terrible at cooking. Her grandmother and aunts had tried to ingrain the kitchen skills into her at a young age, but it stressed her out because she wasn’t naturally gifted in it. She can make a good cup of coffee, but it’s best to leave to crafting of fine foods in the hands of someone more capable and confident.
💖Some amazing art from some amazing people💖

You are all such a gift to this fandom, and it’s more than time to recognize each other! While we will be reblogging everyone’s creations on to this blog, this event will only work as intended if you all interact with each other! We can speak for almost everyone when we say that it is entirely welcome for you to go feral in the tags and comments. Share your enthusiasm. Go wild. ✨️The Prompts!✨️
👋🏼 Week One (October 1-7) : Introduction. Time to share the lore of your OC! For this week, we are looking for your OC’s backstory, what connects them to canon, and who they are as a person! This can include detailed character sheets, a written backstory, drawings of them through stages of life, how you developed this character, even a ‘slide show’ of their background; literally anything pertaining to who they are.
❤️ Week Two (October 8-14) : Relationships. Let’s take a deep dive into the interpersonal relationships of your OC! Family, friends, lovers…enemies? For this week, share any works that give us a look into who your OC is connected to; it can be a family tree, drawings of them with friends, their wedding; as long as there is some form of connection, you’re golden!
🌟 Week Three (October 15-21) : Extras and Add-Ons. Have an AU? Or two? Or ten? All you full of bits of information and side stories? Share it all! This week is for you to share anything and everything you want. Any sort of obscure alternate timeline, a detailed overview of their sense of fashion, pieces of trivia like their favorite food or weather, what their handwriting looks like, comics you’ve been wanting to share. Anything and everything is game!
🫂 Week Four and a Half (October 22-31) : Share the Love. Spread around the appreciation for your fellow artists and writers! Send head-canons or thoughts about someone else’s OC, or maybe some artwork or a one-shot! Or even express your delight for another person’s creativity. We highly encourage you to engage with people you may not be super familiar with.
You are more than welcome to use older material for this event, especially for the first three weeks, but we just ask that you make a new post with this blog tagged so we know to reblog it! New creations are greatly encouraged, but we understand that making art and writing is time consuming 💖 You can also make multiple posts for each week if you have a lot to share, don’t feel pressured to cram everything into one post!
‼️Rules regarding the event:‼️
🔴Please refrain from comparing OCs against each other or to canon characters in a negative manner. This event is meant to appreciate everyone’s efforts, we’ve all dealt with enough negativity already. Be kind.
🔴We want to keep this event friendly for all ages in the fandom, so we will not be reblogging any blatant NSFW content on to the blog. You are welcome to share things of adult-theme, but just know we won’t be sharing it from our platform (we’ll drop a like though).
🔴Any content of incestuous nature will not be allowed whatsoever. This is a one strike policy. Don’t do it.
🔴No tracing or stealing works from other artists/writers. If you have commissions or artwork made by other people for you, that is more than welcome, but do not steal someone else’s work.
🔴No content made using AI
🔴Keep in mind this is not a contest or a competition; please be kind to other artists and writers. We are all on equal ground here.
✨️Please tag our event blog (this one!) as well as using the hashtag ‘encanto oc appreciation’ & 'encanto oc event' as we want everyone’s work to be shared on our blog like an archive of love!✨️
💖If you have any questions, please feel more than welcome to reach out! We want this event to be as fun as possible! 💖

week 1: introduction
Background
Her full name is Verónica Itzel Fontana Aguilar, she's a mexican-colombian girl. Her parents arrived at El Encanto when they were kids with the group of people in which Pedro and Alma were. Her father's family, the Fontanas, are horsemen from Sinaloa, and fled Mexico during the Porfiriato. Her mother is from Yucatan, and unfortunately, was orphaned shortly before arriving in town, and she and her younger sister were adopted by the Fontana family. They work raising horses and selling them. Their business is well established in the town, and they're one of the most important families in there. Anyways, they're not friends with the Madrigals, and only interact with them whenever they need something. Itzel is the eldest of two children in the Fontana-Aguilar family.
Despite having a normal childhood, Itzel was a lonely child. Her father worked all day in the stables, so he didn't spend time with her; her mother only worked until noon 'cause she's a teacher, but she just couldn't stand her own child, and sent her to her room to keep her away from her. Itzel was a restless and energetic girl, so this affected her a lot, making her look outside her family circle for the attention that she wasn't given at home.
Tumblr media
Itzel's parents in their twenties.
Personality
Itzel is a kind person and has good feelings, but she's very disconnected from her own emotions and her environment, which makes her quite impulsive. Even so, the emotions Itzel feels are very intense, and is a hopeless romantic. She collapses easily, and crying is her way of channeling her anger, happiness, or sadness. She's also a theater kid, and tends to unconsciously create her own problems by believing herself to be the protagonist of her own soap opera/novela. She really likes to grab the spotlight, and knows she's pretty, so she takes advantage of this to get what she wants. Sometimes this attitude of hers gets her into trouble.
Her savior complex and her lack of judgment when in love always make her get into toxic relationships.
Tumblr media
Her theme song:
Occupation
Since she was a child, Itzel showed special interest in art and knew she definitely wanted to be an artist. When she expressed her desire of devoting her life to art, her parents objected, arguing that a woman couldn't choose that occupation. However, they didn't stop her either, she did what she wanted, and fulfilled her dream anyway. She is the town muralist, and makes oil paintings as well. Her parents began to support her when they saw that she could actually make a living from it.

Week one of oc appreciation part two <3
@encanto-extended-edition
More detail under the cut <3
Trigger warnings!! Breif mention of death of a parent
Talk of emotional and physical abuse (little detail)
Armida had a relatively good childhood. She grew up on a flower farm of sorts, where her family would grow flowers and process them into oil and dye. She was particularly close to her dad, who taught her how to play her first instruments, and passed down his love of music to her. Something that she never gets rid of. Her mother was more strict, but still just as loving. She was an only child, her mother having fertility issues (that would be passed down)
She grew up in a close knit town. She was a shy kid, who watched kids play more than she joined them, but she was pretty much content with that. Until she met Carlos, who offered to sit with her. He was the first boy, or really kid, to pay her any mind, and they became fast friends.
When she was 14, her father passed, and Carlos became her main support system.
Having Carlos be by her side through all of this caused Armida to fall for him, and by the time they were 15 they started officially going out. Both her father’s death and Carlos created strain in her relationship with her mother, and Armida grew up despising her despite her good intentions.
The first time Carlos hit Armida they were 16, and after Carlos threatened to hurt himself if Armida left him. She stayed playing it off, because she was happy with him.. most of the time anyway. When she started showing up around town with a bruise or two, it sparked rumors. Armida’s mother threatened to forbid her from seeing him. Frustrated, she vented to Carlos, who convinced her to run away with him.
At 16 they ran away together, only planning to go a town over, they accidently stumbled across the Encanto. There they set up there new life on a small farm, where Armida started to take commissions as a seamstress.
They were quick to learn about the Madrigals, Armida watched the three triplets from afar. She admired them, even Pepa and Bruno, who had bad reputations with the town. She not only thought their powers were cool, but she loved the way they interacted with each other. It was then she really started to see their personalities.
By the time Armida turned 18, she had befriended the triplets, spending time with them when they were not busy, and slowly they started to notice little details. Things that made them question her relationship with Carlos. She also started to develop feelings for Pepa- who at that point was already with Félix
Unfortunately Carlos noticed as well, he noticed her slipping away- not even his threats of harming her or himself could make her stay. Feeling desperate, he crossed a line. Badly hurting Armida both mentally and physically, she fled to Casita hoping to escape him, and after learning of the incident Alma banned Carlos from the Encanto.
Now free, Armida starts her healing. It's rough at first, with frequent nightmares and a lack of trust of any strangers (something she'd sadly carry for many years) however she does slowly start to get better. After a while she starts to realize she has a crush on a certain redhead who can control the weather.. but she pushes it down, nowing she's with Félix and still fearing relationships. But her crush only get worse, as she starts to crush on Félix as well. More time passes and eventually confessions happen- and she takes a chance and joins them in their relationship. It starts a bit rough as well, with Armida used to having certain "rules", not knowing how to navigate a healthy relationship. But they are patient with her, even with her at her lowest at points, and eventually the three decide to get married.

My little baker, María Garcia 😭💚 ✨️ (Part 1/3) @encanto-extended-edition
Week 1: Introductions
Backstory:
25 years before the canon movie events, María García (23) lived in Encanto her whole life and worked at her family's recently formed bakery. While trying to gain attraction to the hidden business, María got the opportunity to meet the Madrigal triplets (25).
Intrigued the most by Bruno, she made it her mission to become his friend. Once their friendship is established, María accidentally develops deeper feelings for her best friend and desperately tries to hide her unwavering crush.
Their friendship almost dismantled when María witnesses Bruno performing his gift and becomes frightened by it. Upon encountering Bruno then apologizing profusely and begging for forgiveness, their friendship is rekindled (however she never lets herself forget her hurtful actions.) After some assurance, comfort, and a surprise kiss the two end up confessing and begin dating.
While their relationship is seen as not truthful at first, they prove the accusations wrong. Their new relationship is blissful, until Bruno has an involuntary vision of María's bakery burning down with her along with it. The two desperately try to figure ways to save her family's livelihood but in the end it is all for naught as the cause of the fire was by a cruel third party individual, completely out of their control. While María manages to live, she has recurring nightmares and flashbacks of the fire.
During the rebuilding of the bakery, the persecutors were held accountable and life slowly went back to normal. Once Bruno and María marry after 5 years of dating, María did her best to help support Bruno as he struggled in the family but her efforts weren't enough as all his disparity lead up to his disappearance.
For 3 years María wallowed over Bruno and became a much more reserved version of herself, until she ended up finding him one night sneaking around Casita. Despite being upset with him, she agrees begrudgingly to help keep his secret but in return she distances from the family and becomes estranged. He promised to write letters whenever he could via rat postage.
Due to the discovery and overwhelming guilt knowing where Bruno was hiding, María tried desperately to distance herself from the Madrigals.
They kept in contact through notes via rat postage and did a few visits in the beginning but they had to stop due to the immense pain that also came with them. One day, her young sobrina Mirabel visits her and asks about her Tío Bruno.
María guides her to look for the vision, despite going against her promise towards her husband, she had faith in Mirabel. When Casita falls, María helps the family but is horrified at the notion that Bruno may have been killed.
Returning to her home for supplies, Bruno is there and they are reunited for a bit. While María joins to family to search on foot, Bruno rides off to look for Mirabel Once everyone is back together, María finally reconnects with the entire family alongside her husband.

@encanto-extended-edition prompt 3 - extras and add-ons
I have so many AUs floating around in my brain, this one is the If Claudia Had Been In The Encanto From The Beginning And She Met Bruno In Their Teens And They Got Together Around The Same Time The Other Triplets Did AU. I like this idea but I probably won’t be writing for it just because Claudia would be a whole different person, and then they’d probably have kids which I absolutely cannot fit on my plate of content right now. Plus I just really love my traumatized middle aged losers with an unconventional love story. But I do still have love in my heart for this more peaceful AU. Experimented with a more watercolory pastel vibe to get that feeling of peace and this-will-never-actually-happen and what-could-have-been vibe across.

For week 1 of @encanto-extended-edition I present my main Encanto oc! Johanna Engel. Everyone calls her Hanna. She is a love interest for Camilo and the second main character to my Encanto fanfiction! She is the best oc I have ever created and I love her so much! 🩵
🩵Full name Johanna Roslyn Engel
🩵 German-Colombian
🩵 she/her
🩵 March 5th
🩵 5’3’’
🩵 Blue eyes, light skin, golden brown hair
🩵 bubbly
🩵 observant of others
🩵 Hanna is seventeen when first introduced in my story and is the youngest in her family. She developed a keen sense of how other people around her may be feeling and becomes very observant of them because she would spend a lot of time alone watching them. But this was not by choice because her father would occupy a lot of her sister’s attention.
🩵Parents are Cal and Marie Louise Engel. Cal often neglects Hanna and spends more time with Amalia. He is psychologically abusive. He gaslights Hanna and doesn’t take much pride in her talent or intelligence .Marie is more attentive to Hanna but she is also an enabler. Amalia is Hanna’s older sister. She is the one family member Hanna feels closest to despite Cal’s favoritism. (I don’t want to spoil too much)
🩵 Hanna would spend most of her childhood trying to be just like her sister Amalia just to please her father. It wouldn’t really work but she was always hopeful. Eventually when she enters her teenage years, she starts giving up on trying to be like Amalia, but it caused her to have an identity crisis. When she meets Camilo she is struggling to find out what kind of person she really is.
🩵 When she was ten, she received her first instrument. A hand carved quena (a wooden flute). It was originally a birthday gift for Amalia given by an acquaintance to the family, but Cal did not like the way it sounded and gave her a violin instead. Marie insisted that Hanna can have the quena. Cal agreed but under the condition that Hanna can not play it inside the house. Hanna would end up playing it in the horses stable instead. It seemed to her that the horses liked her music. But because she would always play for horses, she only felt comfortable playing music by herself or in front of animals. This later changes when Camilo helps her to gain more confidence in herself. In turn, she helps Camilo to understand that he is not alone with the things he struggles with, and makes him see that he is more loved and needed by others than he believes.
Thank you for taking the time to read about Hanna 🩵✨

Julieta y la bruja
Tumblr media
Aya la bruja shows Julieta Madrigal a Psilocybe columbiana and a limón mandarino to make lemon tek with.
“I think mamá gave Tío Bruno mushroom tea. She learned it from Aya la bruja when she was younger. In very small doses, it can ease melancholy.”
Aya la bruja started out as just a name. I had no intention of developing her. When I wrote that for Chapter 6 of "Viñetas," this was the kind of image I had in mind. Julieta's gift is one of the most captivating ones for me because of its resemblance with the magical element in the Mexican novel Like Water for Chocolate. Whereas Tita's emotions affect her cooking and the people that eat her food, Julieta heals physical injuries and presumably illnesses with her food. I wondered how Julieta developed her gift. Since Alma does not have her own gift and is busy running the Encanto, did anyone teach Julieta how to attend to people's health?
I recalled the Clarissa Pinkola Estés' interpretation of Vasilisa the Wise in Women Who Run with the Wolves: that in the title character's stay with the witch Baba Yaga, she learned the ways of the wizened ones from the crone. I thought perhaps there was a witch in the Encanto that could guide Julieta. Much like the Cut-Wife and Vanessa Ives in Penny Dreadful:
youtube
It didn't take me long to come up with the name. Aya comes from ayahuasca because I was looking into psychoactive substances for depression at the time. (For context: In "Viñetas," Bruno suffers from depression, insomnia, and migraines after the events of the movie.) But as I continued writing, the character of Aya la bruja would change before I got to describe her appearance. Look out for the next entry, @encanto-extended-edition 🖤

Finally it‘s starting!💕 week one of the @encanto-extended-edition time to properly introduce my special girl Daniela💕🥰✨ she holds my heart and i‘m so excited for this event for you all to meet her and her story🥰✨
🩷Daniela Rosalita Muñoz
🩷Cuban-Colombian
🩷she/her
🩷May 5th
🩷5‘3“
🩷born with heterochromia
🩷Daniela was 15 when she arrived with her family in the Encanto. She‘s a very kind hearted and sweet young girl who loves to help others and always puts the wellbeing of her family bevor her own. She‘s a hopless romantic and very naive at heart. She‘s always outside and loves to learn new things. She‘s very goofy but also very clumsy too, she falls over her own feet at least once a day. She quickly found a friend in Mirabel and has a huge crush on Camilo.💛
🩷she’s the only child of her parents Dario and Valentina Muñoz. Her family involves her Abuelita Dorothea (mothers side), her fathers sisters her Tias Teresa and Monica and her primas Anita and Miranda. Daniela has a wonderful relationship with her family, all except Miranda, for some reason she hates Daniela and she tries everything to make her life miserable. But Daniela never gives up hope to get closer to her.
🩷Danielas family had a sad beginning, her Abuelita lost her beloved husband after a loong illness when her Mama was only four years old. To provide for her small child she had no other choice than to remarry. She returned home to marry her ex fiance Fausto Ramón. Her entire childhood she wasn‘t allowed to do anything she loved or enjoyed, Daniela found the only joy and comfort in books and stories. Even tough her parents tried their best to make it feel like home, they were also suffering from Faustos reign of terror, ruling the family with an iron fist. It all changed when her father Dario decided they had to leave, leave to find a magical village somewhere safely hidden in the mountains of Colombia. That was the moment their life changed for the better, where they found a home in the Encanto.
Thank you all so much for all the support!🩷✨

Meet My Encanto OC, Lucía Moreno from Just Your Ordinary, Everyday Miracle on ao3!
Full Name: Lucía María Moreno-Hernandez
Age: 41
Birthday: December 13th
Height: 5'3"
Eye Color: Brown with amber/gold flecks
Hair Color:  Dark Brown
Appearance: Medium brown skin. Long wavy dark brown hair, worn in a braid down her back or wound into a bun at the back of her head. Long thin nose and brown eyes set into a friendly round face. Usually wears a white or cream blouse with a brown, green, or blue skirt and practical shoes.
Memorable Quotes:
“I suppose we should be thankful for small miracles, eh?” Ch. 2
“I don't want an out, Bruno. This may come as a surprise to you, but I actually like you.” Ch. 9
“I want to move forward, but I don't want to forget. Sometimes it feels like everyone else is forgetting.” Ch. 16
“You’re allowed to forgive yourself for the things you regret.  You know that, right?” Ch. 26
General Information/Personality: Lucía is a kind, practical, 'do-what-needs-to-be-done-with-as-little-fuss-as-possible' type of person. She tends to see the best in people, and her upbringing by two loving parents in the safe and protected Encanto has given her a fairly optimistic view of the world. She's very aware of the pain that can come in life - she is a widow and losing her husband in a tragic accident broke her heart - but she tries to focus on the good she sees in the world instead - and to be some of that good herself. If she sees a need and can meet it, she does. She'll step into a situation without question if she feels she can help, but if someone is antagonizing her directly she avoids them (and conflict) like nobody's business. Her desire to be helpful often directly contradicts (and overpowers) her desire to mind her own business. She's a dreamer and a writer, and her favorite stories are ones that include pirates. Her favorite place to go when she needs time to herself is beneath the old cedar tree in the center of her neighbor's corn fields. Her biggest worry and greatest responsibility in life is raising her daughter Josefina well without her husband Alejandro, but she has a loving family that supports her in her efforts.
History: Lucía’s parents were present at the founding of the Encanto, but Lucía and her younger sister Sofia were not born until around a decade later.  Her father is a printer and does his best to keep literature of both the fiction and non-fiction variety alive in the Encanto, and Lucía followed in her father’s footsteps.  She grew up helping her parents set type and bind books, and reading and listening to various stories and informational texts.  She helps run her father’s print shop and makeshift library and took on a larger role in the shop after her mother died when Lucía was in her early thirties.  Half of the shop houses the printing press, typeset, ink, and paraphernalia associated with printing and bookbinding, and the other half holds several shelves filled with books that her parents either printed or salvaged over the years. She helps set type and print orders and helps maintain the small library they have.  She also hosts a story time for the village kids a few times a week.  Her sister Sofia married Lorenzo Rojas, who runs the stables in the Encanto.
When Lucía was in her early twenties, she married Alejandro Moreno, an up and coming artist who went on to paint a mural of the Madrigals in town.  After they married, they worked together on printing and illustrating a large book of fairytales, legends, and fables, which Lucía still uses during her story times.  They also had one daughter together – Josefina – before he died while roaming the mountains around the Encanto in search of materials for his paints and inspiration for his work.
Alejandro’s death devastated Lucía, and she spent over a month afterward deep in shock, grief, and depression, pushing her family, friends, and even her young daughter away.  It was only with the help of her family that she slowly began to heal from his loss and the mistakes she made while grieving him. She does her best to be a present and loving mother to Josefina and does her best to keep Alejandro's memory alive by speaking of him frequently with her daughter. Three years later she is still in the cyclical process of grieving and healing. The night Casita falls, she's helping clean up her sister's barn when Bruno Madrigal shows up with the hood of his ruana thrown over his head, demanding her ‘fastest steed’.
Though Lucía is quick to befriend him, their romance is what you would definitely consider a slow burn. It takes both of them time to open their hearts to the possibilty of second chances.
The wonderful art at the top of this post is by the lovely @starfangssecrets. ❤
The rest is mine as I attempt to teach myself to draw. Please excuse variations in appearance and shading as I figure out what the heck I'm doing, lol. 🥰
Thanks so much for hosting this fun event @encanto-extended-edition
