Pepa: that's not that surprising

Felix: he said he wanted to do more physical chores around the Encanto.

Pepa: why he hates physical labor?

Felix: yes, but he says that he wants to be able to lift at least 117 lb. Which was odd, because it was such an oddly specific number

*Elena walks into the kitchen and stumbles over to the carafe.*

Pepa: Elena, Julieta likes to get a baseline of health for the people in the family. About how much do you weigh?

Elena (barely awake): last I checked 117 lbs

Pepa and Felix trying not to lose it. "Thank you"

Sweet story between Elena and Alma. This is mostly the meat of the story, but lacks a beginning and end. But figured I’d share.

Out in the secluded part of the patio overlooking a beautiful view of the Encanto, made private with Isabela's flowers, Elena is preparing to feed Catalina when Alma arranges a pillow under Elena and instructs her how to do tandem feeding for the first time.

"You have to tuck their little legs against you, or else they may kick each other" Alma explains over hungry wails. Eventually the tiny babes latch and the ear splitting cries turn to soft mewls

Elena let's out a sigh of relief, exhausted but smiling. "Much better, no waiting at Cafe Elena, eh little ones?"

Alma hesitates in place now that Elena is situated, unsure if she was welcome for this intimate moment, but Elena with a smile invites her to sit.

"Thank you”. Elena said, a thumb gently stroking Catalina’s head. “I felt terrible making one wait for the other. broke my heart to hear one crying."

"I understand, you'll be surprised the tricks you develop when you have three to juggle, there are different positions as they grow. I can teach you". Alma gently runs her fingers around one of Pedro's curls. "This was my favorite part."

"Hmmm?"

Alma continues "When I lost Pedro, but gained our miracle. The whole village looked to me, for guidance and advice; The keeper of the candle. I thought it was my duty to be self sacrificing, to display the fruit of the spirit, and be worthy of the miracle."

A wind blowing from the mountain paused Alma long enough to drape her shawl over Elena's exposed shoulders.

"I was everything to everyone at that time. I now know, it was not selfless. I was afraid. Afraid to take the time to mourn, or to really just be. Just be a mother with her babies."

"Ah, but when they cried for me. It was the excuse I needed to feel ok with getting away and sit in the moment. To take care of them and not feel guilt and question if I was doing enough elsewhere. Sometimes I even enjoyed some quiet during it, but usually if Bruno cried, so did Pepa."

Pedro wrapped his finger around Alma's as he finished his meal. Elena loosening her arm, so Alma could gently take him over her shoulder and gently pat his back. Gurgling burps at the attention.

"What did you do when all three cried?"

"Pray." Alma said solemnly, as she did the sign of the cross with a small smile, earning a surprised laugh from Elena. She hadn't actually heard her tell a joke before.

Happy Valentines Day all and Happy Birthday to Elena. Hijinks has been a long road, and with it I made a story I am proud of and OC’s I love. It’s nice to escape into happy stories with happy endings. I thank you all who followed along and loved Prophetic Hijinks. I may get the urge to draw these characters again, but as the pull of real life draws me away I feel I can be satisfied with this happy ending.

A happy Bruno who got more than he ever hoped for, and a woman who’s dreams came true.

week 1: introduction

Background

Her full name is Verónica Itzel Fontana Aguilar, she's a mexican-colombian girl. Her parents arrived at El Encanto when they were kids with the group of people in which Pedro and Alma were. Her father's family, the Fontanas, are horsemen from Sinaloa, and fled Mexico during the Porfiriato. Her mother is from Yucatan, and unfortunately, was orphaned shortly before arriving in town, and she and her younger sister were adopted by the Fontana family. They work raising horses and selling them. Their business is well established in the town, and they're one of the most important families in there. Anyways, they're not friends with the Madrigals, and only interact with them whenever they need something. Itzel is the eldest of two children in the Fontana-Aguilar family.

Despite having a normal childhood, Itzel was a lonely child. Her father worked all day in the stables, so he didn't spend time with her; her mother only worked until noon 'cause she's a teacher, but she just couldn't stand her own child, and sent her to her room to keep her away from her. Itzel was a restless and energetic girl, so this affected her a lot, making her look outside her family circle for the attention that she wasn't given at home.

Personality

Itzel is a kind person and has good feelings, but she's very disconnected from her own emotions and her environment, which makes her quite impulsive. Even so, the emotions Itzel feels are very intense, and is a hopeless romantic. She collapses easily, and crying is her way of channeling her anger, happiness, or sadness. She's also a theater kid, and tends to unconsciously create her own problems by believing herself to be the protagonist of her own soap opera/novela. She really likes to grab the spotlight, and knows she's pretty, so she takes advantage of this to get what she wants. Sometimes this attitude of hers gets her into trouble.

Her savior complex and her lack of judgment when in love always make her get into toxic relationships.

Occupation

Since she was a child, Itzel showed special interest in art and knew she definitely wanted to be an artist. When she expressed her desire of devoting her life to art, her parents objected, arguing that a woman couldn't choose that occupation. However, they didn't stop her either, she did what she wanted, and fulfilled her dream anyway. She is the town muralist, and makes oil paintings as well. Her parents began to support her when they saw that she could actually make a living from it.
