#Charlie made sure Nick didn’t go through what he did

Ok, but so many feelings about Charlie giving Nick the queer experience he himself never got to have?!
Charlie outed with no choice about the matter? Unflinchingly keeps Nick’s sexuality a secret, even when it makes things more painful for Charlie himself.
Had an abusive and toxic first relationship? Is the sweetest, most supportive, loving, healthy boyfriend to Nick.
Was horrifically bullied for being gay? Introduces Nick to a diverse, accepting, LGBTQI+ friend group, so he isn’t trapped in his homophobic social circle.
Just…. Charlie freaking Spring.
When Nick called him the kindest, most thoughtful, caring, amazing person? He’s not wrong.

Dating Imogen Heaney would include
Pairings: Imogen Heaney x trans male reader
Requested by: @bitweird1 Hello!🥰 Could I please request headcanons for dating Imogen Heaney with a trans male reader?💖
Warnings: mention of transphobia
A/N sorry if I got anything wrong, and ofc please write to me if you want me to change anything in this about trans people, bc as I am not one I do not know how it feels or anything of the sort, I am Bisexual but I do not think that’s the same as being trans in any way, sure you might feel like you need to hide a bit but it’s not the same, so pls once more if I have made something wrong pls send a message or something and I’ll fix it.
Tumblr media
So first of you would totally of been friends with Tara and Darcy before you changed school, missing the time Elle came because you both changed schools the same year
I believe you’d have some encounters with Imogen before you changed school. After all you both used to be at the same school. And it turns out you did have a bit of a crush on her, not that she knew that ofcourse
At first you’d been afraid to change school because you knew that Imogen usually hangs out with boys from Thruman and they boys she were with, (except Nick) especially Harry could throw homophobic and transphobic slurs any way if he knew someone were in the lgbtq+ community.
But luckily for you Tara and Darcy helped you overcome that fear and it seemed like Imogen didn’t tell any of the boys that you were trans.
So all the boys believed you’d changed school from some other school and not from the girl school you used to go to.
You eventually met Charlie, Tao, Elle and Nick through Tara and Darcy, after all you did still hang out with your fave lesbians.
Which also leads to you starting to hang out with Imogen through Nick.
Nick had officially introduced the two of you one day when he saw you starring at her. And he had noticed that Imogen always smiled your way whenever she noticed your stares.
So Nick and the rest played matchmakers just like they did with Tao and Elle
It worked eventually
You and Imogen started to become close friends
Eventually she knew all about you and you knew all about her, from her once crush on Nick to her being interested in someone else now unknowingly to you, you were that person
She knew all about what you went through, the transphobic slurs from people all around you, the pain you and held in for so long about not being able to be your true self.
She always hated and loved hearing those stories, she hated that you’d been in so much emotional and physical pain over not being able to be who you truly are, but she loved to hear it because it showed how very brave and strong you were to have come out to be who you truly were.
It didn’t take to long for you to finally ask her out.
She obviously said yes
Your first date went really good, you’d went for milkshakes
All of your friends pestered you about how it went
Imogen started to hang around other people instead of Harry because she knew he somehow found out about you being trans so he sometimes said slurs to you, and as we all know Imogen is an ally (sorry had to add it) and she didn’t stand for you being bullied for being you
To when you actual started dating I believe that she steals your jeans jackets
She messes with your hair a lot
You always give each other bright smiles
Holding hands
Wanting to pet every dog you guys pass by on your walks
Stealing taking care of Nellie from Nick sometimes when he’s away with his family
A cute couple who stands up for trans rights and any lgbtq+ member
Plus she loves giving you kisses on the cheek, which makes you blush every time, with a shy smile on your face

After All These Years
Chapter Four — The Date
Word Count: 2k+
MASTERLIST - SEND ME A REQUEST
Tumblr media
“Are you ready?” Nick asked, putting one of his hands behind him. Charlie paid attention to the other one’s outfit. It was extremely nice, way nicer and elegant than what he was wearing. He regretted his outfit choice, but it was too late now.
“I’m ready” Charlie smiled at Nick, but got distracted by the box the tall one was still holding.
“Um- this is for you” He said handing him the box “But don’t open it yet”
“Oh… ok” Charlie took the box and tried to pretend he didn’t care about what was in it. He did care, a lot, but he didn’t want that to be too obvious “Thank you” He said.
“We should get going, i really don’t wanna be late”
Nick and Charlie walked out and started walking towards Nick’s car. Charlie could feel his hands sweating, he was nervous and not knowing where they were going or what they were doing made him even more nervous. Yes, he assured Nick it was ok if he didn’t tell him, but mentally preparing for it and dressing accordingly would have been nice.
Nick opened the passenger’s seat and took a step back, signalling Charlie to get in. “Come on” He said, smiling at Charlie, he just smiled back and got in. Nick’s car smelled like bubblegum, which he thought made perfect sense.
Nick walked around the car and opened the door, finally getting in and starting his car.
(7:06 PM) Aled - don’t embarrass yourself, have fun!
(7:06 PM) Charlie - please don’t bring that into the universe
(7:07 PM) Aled - just making sure
Charlie rolled his eyes before locking his phone and looking at Nick “So, are you telling me where we’re going?”
“No! It’s a surprise, remember? You will find out once we get there”
“Oh my god, please tell me you don’t have a blindfold for me” Charlie asked genuinely concerned, inspecting the little blue box. Nick just laughed until Charlie interrupted him “Do you?”
“I don't, I promise” He said, still laughing a little bit “But it would have been a good idea now that you mention it” He said jokingly.
“Shut up” Charlie punched him slightly in his arm and laughed with him. “That would’ve ruined my eyebrows”
“I agree” He replied laughing. Nick’s laugh made Charlie happy, amazed at how funny he was that he always managed to make Nick laugh.
Nick had been driving for about 30 minutes, leaving the city behind, and the entire car ride they talked and laughed at the most random stuff. Nick really enjoyed Charlie’s presence, he was so funny and comforting at the same time. Nick really felt like he could be himself around Charlie.
After 10 more minutes they were approaching a fancy building. Nick kept talking and showing Charlie some trees on the other side of the road, almost as if he was trying to distract him from the big building that was in front of them. Eventually they made it to the parking lot and found an empty parking spot.
“Wow… this seems-”
“It’s better inside, I promise” Nick was a little worried Charlie didn’t like the surprise. He brainstormed a million ideas trying to decide where to go or what to do, and this place seemed like the safest idea. That’s what he thought at least.
They got out of the car and started walking to the front of the building. As they were getting closer to the entrance Charlie could see the big letter spelling the name of the place, Cépage(s). He had heard of this place before, he didn’t know much about it, except that it was fancy and expensive.
“Good evening, do you have a reservation with us tonight?” A man with an elegant suit was standing in front of them, holding an ipad and a couple of menus.
“Yes, Nick Nelson for two”
<Oh my god> Charlie thought to himself, he just stared at him and blushed and he wasn’t exactly sure what caused it.
The man looked through his ipad for a few seconds before saying “Of course mr. Nelson, this way” He entered the big restaurant and guided them through the many tables.
Charlie looked around him, it was really nice and pretty, he definitely felt like he didn’t dress accordingly and kind of regretted agreeing to the whole surprise thing. They kept walking until they went through the back door, leading to a beautiful garden with more tables, fairy lights and all types of plants. Charlie definitely liked this vibe a lot better than the one inside, not that he completely hated the restaurant, but he felt way more comfortable out there. It almost felt like two different restaurants.
The man stopped at one of the tables in the corner before saying “Gentlemen, your table” He put down the menus and excused himself.
“What do you think? Do you not like it?” He asked, concerned he failed to impress Charlie.
“I do! I was just a little surprised, that’s all” Charlie replied, with a comforting smile hoping he didn’t hurt Nick’s feelings.
“Okay” The other one said, clearly relieved “You didn’t say anything so I was a little worried you hated it”
“Nick, i love it, honestly-” But he was interrupted.
“I guess I wanted to impress you?” He said with a shy smile “I don’t know, I don’t think I have ever tried to impress someone before” Nick immediately regretted saying that out loud, almost like he forgot for a moment that they were only on their second date. First date? No, definitely second date. Maybe. Hopefully.
Charlie couldn’t help but blush at that comment “Honestly you could have taken me to a park and i would have been impressed” He said, and he meant it.
Nick appreciated that, it was nice not worrying too much about stuff like that “You can open it” He said, directing Charlie’s attention to the little box.
Charlie opened it, carefully as he wasn’t sure what was inside, but once he saw what it was he was completely speechless.
“Do you like it?” Nick asked, genuinely curious.
“Like it? Nick…” He stopped for a moment “I love it!” He screamed excitedly as he looked closely, it was a miniature version of The Iliad, one of his favourites classical books. He loved Ancient Greek literature, but he would have never thought Nick would know that “How did you even know I like Greek literature?”
“Well, you kind of mentioned it was your favourite when you saw my copy of The Iliad, back when you helped me move in”
“Oh…” Charlie does remember helping Nick when he first moved into his neighbourhood (he thinks about it a lot), but he does not remember telling Nick about this, and the fact that Nick remembered made him feel A LOT of things “Thank you, I really love it” He said with the biggest smile on his face.
“I’m glad you loved it” He smiled back “I struggled a little bit but good to know I made the right choice”
“You didn’t have to get me anything, though”
“I know, but it felt like the right thing to do. You know, for a formal date I couldn’t just show up empty handed and I wasn’t sure how you felt about flowers”
Their conversation was interrupted by a girl wearing a fancy uniform, kind of like the one the guy from the entrance was wearing but with slightly different colours  “Good evening, my name is Liz and I will be your waitress tonight!” She had a cheerful tone as she smiled at both of them “Can I get you started with a drink? We have a very special selection of wines for tonight”
“Just a Coke for me” Nick said, smiling back at Liz “Charlie?”
“Same”
“Would they be regular cokes?” Liz asked tapping on her ipad.
“Yes” They both replied at the same time. Honestly they couldn’t help but feel like teenagers, with dumb smiles just because they said the same thing at the same time.
“Alright! I’ll be right back with your drinks, I’ll give you a little more time to go through the menu, if you have any questions let me know” She said before leaving them alone again.
“I guess we should take a look at the menu” Nick grabbed one and started to flip the pages, trying to look focused on the menu and its content. But the truth is he searched their menu online that morning so he could decide what to order in advance, he didn’t want to take 30 minutes to order something, or ‘panic order’ the first thing on the menu and end up with a dish he didn’t want. But he would never admit that.
Charlie, on the other hand, was having a hard time looking through the countless options of french dishes. They all looked great but he had never tried most of them and he didn’t really feel like trying something new. But at the same time he didn’t wanna make Nick think he wasn’t interested.
I guess the struggle was showing so Nick said “If you prefer a safer option, they have burgers on the back”
Charlie blushed a little <Was I being that obvious> He thought to himself.
“If you want my opinion, Cassolettes are really good” He said with a smile, searching for the Cassolettes section to see the different ones they offered “They have tons of options too! Like chicken, pork, vegetables…” He glanced at Charlie and he just looked a little confused “But I mean- I wouldn’t blame you if you don’t want to try any of these, they seem a little pretentious, don’t they?”
Charlie blushed even harder, the whole time thinking <Was that french> But he really tried to play it off “A little, yeah” They both laughed “It’s just that- they don’t sound bad or anything but I have never seen most of these” Charlie said looking down at the menu “Pictures would be nice”
Nick tried to hold his laugh but just couldn’t. Charlie was too adorable.
“I’m just so unfamiliar with them, I like french toast and stuff but you know-” Charlie looked back at Nick. He was paying close attention to every single word Charlie was saying, he forgot where he was for a second “I’ll try the Cassolette” Charlie said in a horrible fake french accent. Nick, of course, laughed incredibly loud at that.
Dinner went by and they were having a great time, enjoying each other’s company more than anyone could’ve imagined. Most of the time they were talking and laughing so loud, some of the tables around them would stare and whisper, but they didn’t care. Well, not until Nick thought they were gonna get kicked out for disturbing everyone else’s dinner, and even though Charlie assured him that would never happen, they tried to keep it down for the rest of the night.
“I’m so full I can’t even think about dessert” Nick said looking at the ‘Dessert Menu’ Liz brought them “But the apple tart sounds delicious, actually”
“Oh my god, stop talking about food” Charlie pushed his empty dish away to rest his head on the table, he swears he has never been this full his entire life “I can’t even move right now”
“Wouldn’t something sweet fix that?” Nick asked him. Charlie almost laughed at that until he saw Nick’s expression. He was being serious “I don’t know the science behind that, but I think I always have space for dessert. It even makes me feel a little better, to be honest”
“Didn’t you just say you can’t even think about dessert?” Charlie replied.
“Well that was before I remembered apple tart exists”
Charlie was so mesmerised by Nick, in a way he couldn’t even explain. Sure, he had a crush on him when they were in school… And then again years later when they basically became neighbours. But this? Nick is way more than just crush material.
“But maybe you’re right” Nick said all of the sudden “We don’t really need dessert for this next part of our date”
Charlie sat up straight quickly, a little nervous to ask “Next part?”
“How do you feel about dancing?”

Super Massive Party
[This will contain characters from Devil in Me but is spoiler-free on the story. Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate and please consider donating to World Center Kitchen for Thankmas!]
Anthony stood at the door, debating whether or not he was going to knock. He had recently made peace with his past-- finally let go of his family and moved on from the tragedy-- only to get a call from this man claiming to be his younger brother. His living, biological brother. He wasn't sure he was ready to accept anyone else into his life.
On the other hand, a part of him always wondered about his biological family. Who were they? Why did they give him up when he was a baby? He took a breath and knocked.
The door opened and for a moment he stared at the face on the other side. It was like looking at a slimmer version of himself. Their faces were similar and though this version had more hair, it was the same color as Anthony's. Naturally this man didn't have a burned ear, and he wore glasses.
“Anthony. So glad you came,” the slimmer man greeted him. Charlie, Anthony remembered. His brother's name was Charlie Lonnit. The accent still threw Anthony off. Apparently his birth family was British. Maybe some part of him knew that and that was why he imagined the accent whenever he thought of the Little Hope witch trials. “Do come in,” Charlie gestured.
Anthony did so and was immediately overwhelmed by the number of people inside the house. Most of them were clumped together in groups chatting or already in the kitchen making food.
“Let me introduce you to my team,” Charlie offered. Anthony was grateful for the direction. Charlie led him over to one of the chatting groups. One of them turned and Anthony gave a little jerk of surprise. That face reminded him strongly of Vince when he was young. “This is Mark Nestor; he's my photographer.”
“Hi,” Mark nodded with a pleasant smile. “Nice to finally meet some of Charlie's family. Though I guess... the two of you are meeting for the first time too?”  Anthony didn't know what to do so he just nodded. With Mark was Kate Wilder, the host of Charlie’s show. She seemed friendly enough and joked that she hoped Anthony wasn't as big as a pain in the ass as Charlie. Or at least Anthony assumed that was a joke. He was relieved when Charlie steered him to the next guest.
“These two are Jamie Tiergan and Erin Keenan. Lights and sound design, respectively. Jamie helped me find you,” Charlie informed him.
“Wasn't that hard,” Jamie shrugged. “Just plugged some information into Ancestry dot com and just like that--” she snapped her finger-- “I found you.”
“Thank you,” Anthony said quietly. He caught Erin's eye and she gave him an understanding smile. I'm shy and quiet, too, she seemed to be saying, and that made him feel a little better.
Charlie moved them on to his other guests. Anthony was a little surprised Charlie knew so many people, but his brother (still strange to think of Charlie that way) admitted he knew all of them through work. He'd gotten his start doing war documentaries before moving on to true crime.
“That's where I met these fellows,” Charlie concluded. He named them and Anthony nodded to each in turn: Jason and Salim Othman-Kolchek, married for almost twenty years now. They had a little girl with them and Anthony almost blurted out Megan? But no, her skin was darker than Megan's. Her name was actually Alima and Jason and Salim had adopted her.
“I was adopted too,” Anthony told her. She looked about Megan's age, he reflected, but also looked happier than Anthony remembered Megan being. “I had two sisters and a brother.”
“I have a brother too!” Alima chirped. “His name is Zain. We're going to visit him and his family in London.”
“That sounds nice. I hope you have a good time.”
Anthony got another shock when Charlie introduced him to Eric King. Something about Eric's face reminded Anthony of that officer who directed him to Little Hope a few years back. He also met Nick and Rachel Kay and Nick’s two nephews Alex and Brad. Alex’s wife Julia was in the kitchen helping with food.
Anthony was having trouble keeping track of all the names. Finally Charlie left him to his own devices and he wandered into the kitchen. He checked out the stovetop and let out a breath. Relax. This is a modern home. Everything's fine. Two of those in the kitchen were arguing with each other, one speaking in French and the other in Arabic. The French speaker looked a little like Jamie and Anthony wondered if they were related. The Arabic speaker turned and Anthony gasped. The man looked like his father! A different skin tone like Alima and a little heavier-set, but the face...
“Dar.” Eric stepped in, taking the Arabic man by the shoulder. “Did you want to take a break from cooking?” Dar’s expression softened at once (Anthony found it hard to imagine his father looking like that) and followed Eric back out to the party.
“Oh, good,” a voice spoke up. “More help. Could you take these out for us?” Anthony reeled back as yet another familiar face stared back at him. The man gave him a smile. “Don't worry, I get that reaction a lot.”
“Sorry,” Anthony sighed. “You just reminded me of someone.” Now that he could think straight he could see that of course this man wasn't really Dennis-- he was bald and Anthony couldn't imagine Dennis ever getting rid of his hair. This face was familiar for a different reason: this was Jonathan Finn, accused of being the serial killer known as the Trapper. “My brother,” Anthony clarified. “My, uh, adopted brother.”
“Funny,” Jonathan mused. “You remind me of a judge. Speaking of brothers, I work with yours sometimes as an expert consultant. Personally knowing the Trapper has made me quite the hot commodity in true crime shows.”
“That sounds... interesting.” He was a little glad he never told Charlie about his own time in jail. “I'm glad you turned your life around,” Anthony added. “I, ah, know a little something about that.”
“I figured you might.” Jonathan leaned forward and added: “If you wanna get out of here, just let me or Daniela know.” He nodded to a woman helping set up the tables. Anthony gaped yet again as the face reminded him of his sister Tanya.
They were here... they were all here. The only one missing was his mother. But just as that thought came to him, someone turned on the TV so they could watch the parade. And the woman on the screen had Anne Clarke's face. Or at least reminded Anthony of his mother.
Anthony had to take a seat then. He knew his family was gone, but to see so many who reminded him of them, of people he'd known, made him feel strangely safe. It was like they were telling him they would always be with him. That it was okay to welcome the new family of Charlie and all the people that were part of Charlie's life.
He wasn't alone anymore.

Heartstopper 2 Ramble (SPOILERS)
I just finished Season 2 of Heartstopper and wow. I had high expectations after Season 1, but I was not prepared for this emotional rollercoaster. The entire cast and crew poured their heart and souls into this project, and I am eternally grateful. I fear I won’t survive Season 3.
First of all, Imogen absolutely killed me. I wasn’t sure about her Season 1, but she won me over. Her reaction to Nick Coming Out was precious and awkward and completely sincere. Her monologue with Ben had me cheering at my little tv, and I actually rooted for her. I’m glad Alice gave Imogen another shot. She deserved it.
I was really worried about Ben’s storyline and how he would play into everything, but I’m SO glad they didn’t make Charlie accept his fake-ass apology. It dripped with manipulation tactics and danger. Good on Charlie for recognizing them and standing up for himself. Him essentially saying that Ben Sexually Abused him was difficult to watch but also so empowering. I’m still not sure if Ben is gay or not, but it really doesn’t matter to me. As Charlie said, Ben permanently broke his brain and he will live with the consequences for the rest of his life. You don’t get your happy rainbow, Ben, because you almost took Charlie’s away. Also, the Paris dinner scene was incredible. Joe Locke did not utter ONE WORD and yet you knew exactly what was going through Charlie’s head.
Speaking of Joe’s incredible acting, the fainting scene was immaculate. I loved the pre-fainting on the stairs and how Charlie ignored it, not wanting to freak out Nick, but it caught up to him quickly. I literally saw the light leave his eyes and his body weight pull him down. The use of the white border, double vision, and audio distortion made it incredibly realistic along with the way Joe let himself fall completely limp in Kit’s arms. You truly believed he was unconscious. My only critique is I wish we had seen him wake up and Nick reassure him he’s safe. Talking about Charlie’s beautiful blue eyes.
Charlie’s ED was handled with gentleness and grace by everyone, but especially Joe and Alice. It was a slow build that made sense and felt realistic without hitting you over the head with it. It’s beautiful to see this misunderstood community represented in mainstream media, especially when it comes to boys’ Mental Health. I loved Nick’s mom picking up on it, even if she didn’t fully understand. Good moms always know.
Tao and Elle were adorable and I loved watching Tao read the WikiHow article and then ask Elle out. Thank God they cut his hair, it was hurting. A lot. I’m glad Elle decided to go to Art School and pursue her dreams, it’s what she deserves. A place where she feels at home and accepted for who she is, where she’s surrounded by like-minded people who love and accept her.
I know Alice has tried to make Jane Spring more likable, but it’s not working for me. Sorry. If you don’t accept your child’s partner, you don’t accept your child. Period. She reminds me of Darcy’s mother. Jane Spring, I am in your walls.
The final scene broke me. It set up Season 3 perfectly while wrapping up the events of this season. Charlie looked so broken and lost admitting what he’d done to himself and Nick had no idea how to help him. So he did what he could, hold Charlie close and remind him that he is loved. Fully and completely. Watching Charlie walk home in Nick’s sweatshirt was like watching Nick carry him home—protecting him from the monsters in his mind. Also, the song that plays (the one that broke my brain) is from Wasia Project, Will Gao’s (who plays Tao) band. So, in a way, Tao was watching over him, too. The stark contrast between the Season 1 ending and this one is startling, but in the best way. Go back and listen to the lyrics of the final song, it will break your heart. “You’re the only one left, so please don’t go.” Nick is terrified that Charlie won’t make it and doesn’t know how he’ll handle losing his entire world. I can’t wait to see the GA’s response (those who didn’t read the comics). This is not the Heartstopper they thought they were getting. But for us who did read, it was nothing short of perfect. Thank you, Alice Oseman and team, you created a masterpiece.

The Next Steps
“How much longer? Charlie says within two years… but I think he’ll drawl it out until someone new comes in.” Blaine shrugged. “Any time I bring any questions up about it, he throws paper at me. I’m not sure if he’s joking or not is the thing.”
“He’s really not been that into anything law since Emily was kidnapped for ransom… but he’d had, like, five ‘and a half’ experiences like this. What does that even mean?”
“One of his attacks lost him a lung when he was getting big and 28 years old or something.’
“Why don’t you take ove—”
Blaine gave him the look like he always did when he mentioned taking over for Bob. “Just because my grandmother and uncles were lawyers does not mean I want to take over CMJ. They’d even have to make a new sign... but if we can all trick Nick into going to law school-.”
“Cody!” Kurt exclaimed seeing him outside of one of the coffee shops he frequented.
Cody jumped—it was habit after his sexual assault in middle school. When he knew someone was coming to see him it was fine but sometimes he was nervous when people quickly came behind him because of his past.
“Sorry. It’s him showing he likes you more than Nick.” Blaine joked.
Cody relaxed and waved. “Hey, I didn’t know you all got lunch on this side of town.”
“That big festival is happening, so we wanted somewhere a little less…” Blaine began.
“Not full of people my age?” Cody joked.
“Yes, but you are family... When are you two having babies?” Kurt asked.
“Oh my God. Did Nick put you up this?” Cody looked surprised. “Also, thanks.”
“Does that mean you… are talking about it?” Blaine grinned.
Cody hesitated.
Kurt’s face lit up.
“I don’t think it will be anytime soon.” Cody said slowly. “We need to get through things before we’ll consider it.”
“What’s the hold up? Out of curiosity?” Blaine asked.
“Nick doesn’t want to pass down his ‘bad genes.’ He’s afraid that his mental health isn’t well enough for so much added stress. When he’s really stressed it’s hard for him to eat like he should so he wants to make sure he’s really ready.” Cody explained. “Which I think is the best reaction we could hope for taking such a big step.”
“You think it’s a good idea?”
“Yeah!” Cody said enthusiastically. “As long as he does what he needs to do it will set us up to make sure. Closer to time we’ll all three hash out a plan… but not until I’ve gotten through grad school. He’s getting better and branching out more again too.”
“Ryan?”
“Oh, they see each other all the time as of, maybe, 4 months ago? Us, Ryan, and his girlfriend…”
“Maddie.” Blaine said and then made a smooth transition to, “Hello, sunshine.”
Nick groaned and sat in one of the chairs. He looked at Blaine and said, “Dad, you’re rich. Daddy, you’ve almost made more than grampa. Can I drop out?”
Cody rolled his eyes. Thursday classes made him say the same thing every day.
“You’ve got how long left?” Blaine played along.
“Maybe six months after that test I just bombed.”
“You always say this and you’ve never failed any test or final.” Cody was exasperated. “Come on.”
Kurt and Blaine shared a look. They loved it.
“You owe me ice cream if you pass the test.”
“What do I get out of this?”
“An BS degree…?”
“They’re just like us. They banter.” Blaine pointed out. “I’m glad Cody warmed up to me.”
“You walked in on us having sex. What did you expect?”
“I don’t know. That you wouldn’t be having sex in your childhood bedroom.”
“I was twenty. You shouldn’t just walk in. I know you two did the deed at seventeen and eighteen.”
“Well, this has been fun but my 90 minute break is up and the girl is always early and she’s my last appointment of the day which means I’ll still beat Nick home.”
“Rude. Can I just sit in your actual office and work on my homework?” Nick scoffed.
“Yeah. The front desk expects it anyway now. I mean my boss knows because she’s the one who did his therapy.” Cody said, grabbing Nick’s bag for him and waving goodbye to Blaine and Kurt. “But if you’re coming in with me, it’s gotta be now.”
As soon as they had walked into the office, Kurt and Blaine stood up.
“Have I mentioned lately that Cody is the best thing to happen to Nick?”
“An hour ago… I love him and them.”
“Just to be clear… I know that we helped Nick since he was hospitalized but as soon as he got that inheritance from Bob… I’m still seeing him getting better and better.”
“I would say that it was rude to do that but not for Zach… however, Zach’s killing it. I just wish he’d take a job here.”
“How is that we are always talking about our three kids in college? Two of them at the same school?”
“Yeah, for you. Now I’m close to the age Bob was at when I started my internship… or older than that. Ugh. I hate being old.”

I would love to see something with 13, 17, or 20 from the summer prompts please! Dealer's choice.
Hello, I'm sorry this took so long! But here is a little oneshot from the prompt "lifeguard"--though I may have stretched things a bit. Also I suppose content warning for cold water and mild hypothermia symptoms. But this is really just the Paris Squad being chaotic.
“Are we sure this is a good idea?” Tara eyed the pool suspiciously. The water rippled gently, glinting in the moonlight.
“It’s a fantastic idea,” Darcy answered, throwing open the gate to the pool. No one was quite sure how she managed to nick the keys from the Higgs’ P.E. teacher, but they all thought it best if they didn’t ask.
“What if we get into trouble?” Sahar bit her lip. “It’s after midnight!”
“Exactly,” Darcy nodded. “No one’s going to come out and check on the pool this late. We won’t get caught.”
Charlie pursed his lips. “What if someone gets hurt?” He asked quietly. “It’s dark, and—”
Darcy flipped on the lights. “You were saying?”
Nick squeezed Charlie’s hand–which he’d been holding for the entire walk from Tara’s house to the Higgs/Truham shared pool. “Don’t worry, Char,” he said softly. “I’m CPR certified. I took an emergency medicine course a few summers ago.”
Charlie blinked up at him. “You are? You did?”
“Yeah,” Nick blushed. “You know how rough rugby lads can get—”
Darcy snorted. “I’m sure he does.”
“Darcy!” Charlie choked out, and at the same time, Tao began to make loud faux gagging noises.
“Anyway,” Nick said, voice firm but not sharp, a voice he’d developed on the rugby pitch and perfected with his friends. “I thought it would be smart to know what to do if someone got really hurt. It ended up being a good thing because one time Christian took a nasty tackle and I was the only one who knew how to test for a concussion before the medics arrived.”
“See, there you have it,” Darcy grinned and clapped Nick on the shoulder. “Nicholas here is basically a lifeguard. What’s the worst that could happen?”
Tao groaned loudly. “Don’t say that!”
Elle patted her boyfriend gently on the shoulder. “There, there,” she said dryly.
At this point, the entire gang had made their way through the metal gate and onto the pool deck properly. The bright white of the fluorescent lights burned Nick’s eyes slightly, and he briefly wondered why they even had lights out there. Why would anyone be swimming at night?
Besides them, of course.
Nick shrugged off the backpack he’d brought, containing towels for both him and Charlie, as well as a water bottle and a couple of granola bars just in case. The rest of their friends did the same, shrugging off clothes and setting out towels, as if it was the middle of a summer afternoon, and not after midnight in the middle of September.
Charlie was the first to the pool, as he was the only one who didn’t have anything to take off or put down. He rolled up his black jeans, perched at the edge and slowly dangled his feet into the water, before instantly recoiling and yanking his legs up onto the cement.
“Jesus fucking Christ!”
Everyone stopped.
“You alright, Char?” Nick asked, already jogging across the pool deck towards his boyfriend.
“I’m fine,” he rolled his eyes. “But the water is fucking freezing.”
Tara threw her arms up. “I told you this was a bad idea!” She turned to start packing up her stuff, ready to throw in the towel on her girlfriend’s harebrained scheme.
But Darcy Olsson was nothing if not stubborn. She dipped her toe in and shrugged. “It’s not that cold.”
Elle, Tao, Isaac, and Nick all followed suit. Tao and Isaac recoiled, the same as Charlie, but Elle seemed to take a moment to consider. It was definitely unpleasantly cold, but it was tolerable, in Nick’s opinion.
“I guess…” He sighed, trying to be as even-handed as possible. “It’s cold, but it’s really not that bad.”
Charlie gasped. “Betrayal!”
“I agreed that it’s cold!” Nick tried, running a hand through his hair. “I just think it’s tolerable, at least for me.”
Charlie giggled. “You’re so cute when you’re flustered.”
“Hey!” Nick huffed. “That’s mean!”
Whatever Charlie was about to say was interrupted by a loud splash. Nick and Charlie looked over just in time to see Darcy’s head surface in the middle of the deep end.
“Come on in!” She called. “The water’s great!”
“Hm,” Nick shook his head. “No, thanks!” He looked back at Charlie. “I’m good right here!” He punctuated his statement by pressing a chaste kiss to Charlie’s lips.
Tao rolled his eyes.
“Got a problem?” Nick asked, a teasing lilt to his voice.
“Besides that nauseating display of affection?” Tao quipped, though there was no real bite to his words. At this point, after over a year of friendship, Nick knew that Tao was secretly quite invested in his and Charlie’s relationship.
“Yeah,” Nick grinned. “Besides that.”
“Well, you said yourself the water’s not that cold,” Tao pointed out, smirking slightly. “If that’s the case, what’s stopping you from taking a swim?”
“Tao,” Charlie said. A warning.
“I dare you to jump in the pool,” Tao said, his smirk growing into an evil grin. “I bet you can’t do it.”
Charlie dropped his head into his hands, knowing full well what Tao had just done. Nick Nelson prided himself on being, for the most part, pretty levelheaded. He wasn’t like some of his mates on the rugby team, who recklessly threw themselves into dangerous and stupid situations. But there was a series of words that, more than anything, made his brain immediately switch into what Charlie dubbed Idiot Rugby Lad Mode.
And Tao had just said it.
Nick was up from his seat next to Charlie and standing back at the edge of the water in a flash. “How much do you want to bet?”
“I bet you £15 that you can’t jump in the pool and stay there for at least twenty seconds.”
“Make it £20 and you’ve got a bet,” Nick responded, putting his hand out to shake on it.
“£20?” Tao scoffed.
“One for every second I have to stay in the water,” Nick answered easily. “Why? Are you worried you won’t win?”
Tao’s face hardened. “Obviously not.”
“So, then?” Nick raised an eyebrow. “Do we have a deal?”
Tao pursed his lips. “Fine. We have a deal.”
They shook hands on it, and Nick reluctantly stepped away from his boyfriend. He pulled off his shirt, kicked off his flip flops, and approached the edge of the pool.
“Ready to concede?” Tao asked.
“You don’t have to do this,” Charlie said.
Nick took a deep breath. “I’m sorry, Char, but you know I have to do it.”
“I know.” Charlie let out a deep sigh, covering his eyes with his palm. “I can’t watch this.”
Finally, Nick dove into the pool. The water was a shock to his system, almost painfully cold. Immediately, he felt his heart rate jump. He surfaced, gasping for breath, already shivering. “Fucking Christ! Jesus fucking fuck!” He yelled, unable to hold back.
“Twenty seconds, Nicholas!” Tao called out.
“I know!” Nick shouted back.
He glanced around the pool. At some point, Darcy had admitted to how cold the water was, hopped out, and was now shivering in Tara’s arms, so it was just Nick in the pool. He tried to tread water, but his muscles felt heavy and sluggish from the cold water, so he moved until he could stand flat instead.
“Ten more seconds!” Tao yelled, waving the stopwatch on his phone.
Nick’s brain stopped working. Vaguely he heard his friends counting down from ten, but his thoughts were slow, and couldn’t keep up. Until finally, Tao shouted once again.
“Alright, Nicholas, get out of there!”
Nick swam to the stairs as quickly as he could (which wasn’t that fast) and pulled himself out of the water. Immediately he was wrapped in a warm towel and a firm embrace. Charlie. He became aware of a clicking sound, which he realized belatedly was the sound of his own teeth chattering.
“I can’t believe you did that,” Charlie scolded him. “What is wrong with you?”
Nick shrugged, and looked up, looking for Tao. “Where’s my twenty pounds?” He spat, stuttering slightly with his chattering teeth.
Tao huffed and pulled out his wallet, pressing the money into Nick’s open palm. “Can you take this?” He asked, handing the bills to Charlie. “I’m still wet.”
Charlie nodded, taking the money and shoving it in his pocket. “Can we go home now?”
“Yes,” Nick answered immediately. “I’m so fucking cold.”
“Same,” said Darcy, who was still shaking slightly.
Tara and Charlie exchanged a glance.
The group (except for Nick and Darcy, who sat, wrapped in towels, shivering) collected their things and packed up their bags. Tao walked home, and took Elle and Isaac with him. Tara drove herself, Darcy, and Sahar home. Which left Nick and Charlie.
“Please don’t call my mum,” Nick begged, giving Charlie his best puppy dog eyes.
“Nick. I’m not having you walk home sipping wet,” Charlie shook his head. “We’re calling your mum for a ride.”
“Ugh,” Nick groaned. “Fine.”
Nick pouted in silence as Charlie spoke to his mum.
“Yes Sarah, he’s fine—no, no, I think all he needs is a hot chocolate and—yes, thank you. See you soon.” Charlie slid his phone back into his jeans pocket. “She’ll be here soon.”
Nick nodded. “Okay,” he said, unable to say much more as a wave of fatigue flooded him.
“Hey,” Charlie put a hand on Nick’s cheek, wincing slightly from how cold his skin felt. “You alright? You know she’s not going to be mad.”
“‘M tired,” Nick managed.
Charlie frowned. “Jesus, Nick. I think you’ve got mild hypothermia.”
“Oh.”
Charlie stripped off his jumper—which, as usual, was really Nick’s jumper—and handed it to Nick. “Put this on, you big idiot.”
Nick did as he was told. “Won’t you be cold?”
“Not as cold as you are,” Charlie responded.
Nick wrapped an arm around his boyfriend. “Thank you, I love you.”
Charlie frowned at him. “You’re an idiot.”
“Char,” Nick whined.
“But,” Charlie’s frown turned up into a smile. “I love you, too.”

Imogen is aromantic theory
So, when Nick cancelled his date with Imogen, she really didn't seem upset at all. She barely even reacted. It wasn't just that he said 'no' to the date, either, he said yes and cancelled at the last minute. Can you imagine your crush getting your hopes up like that? I'd be mad at last minute plan cancelling on it's own, never mind the romantic feelings involved in this situation. But her reaction isn't mad, sad, happy, or relieved, it was...kind of nothing.
Now sure, maybe this is supposed to be Imogen being mature. One of my favourite things about this show is that it doesn't fall on tired tropes to milk unnecessary drama out of all situations (besides for the thing with Tao, but that's another post). She did also have the rest of the night to cool down, and maybe in that time looked at the situation and noticed that Nick never seemed that enthusiastic. That is a possibility that I certainly wouldn't mind (seriously, I thought she and Nick were going to fake-date and there'd be lots of angst when she said her dog died. It was really refreshing to see her and Nick just talk, and not have some explosion-y argument. I hope we see more of their friendship in season 2). But maybe she reacted that way because she was never really interested in that date in the first place, and never realized it until it was cancelled. Maybe she's confused by her relief and doesn't know how to react to these unexpected emotions.
Now, this second piece of evidence is what does it for me. Nick talks about 'doing things because everyone else is doing them' and 'your real personality being buried deep down'. He figures Imogen won't know what he's talking about, but she gets it right away.Going after romance because it's 'what people do' and you've never really asked yourself 'is this really what I want?', and you just assume it'll make you happy because it seems to make everyone else happy is a very aromantic experience.
So why does she ask Nick out if she's not into him? Because A) she thinks she is. She and Nick have been friends for years, and she's confusing her platonic interest for a crush (another very aro thing to do).
B) She feels pressure to pursue a romantic relationship. It was Harry's pushing that made her finally ask Nick out. A lot of Nick's growth in the show stemmed from learning to break away from peer pressure and speak up when his "friends" were being jerks. Peer pressure (real peer pressure, not that 'say no to drugs' nonsense that never happens) is something that a lot of kids (and adults) struggle with, so it's very possible that Imogen is struggling with this like Nick was. I actually think that it would be really cool if season 2 continued those themes with Imogen realizing she's aromantic. Maybe she and Nick could talk about it, since he went through a similar experience in season 1 (especially since she totes knows he's dating Charlie). Also a lot of people around her would be starting to do dating stuff (teenagers, ammiright?), and I feel like there's pressure in Harry's group to 'be cool', for fear that Harry and co might turn their bullying/teasing towards you.
Note: Even if Imogen doesn't turn out to be aromantic, I'd still like to see her an Nick become closer friends. I'd like to see them working though cutting off toxic friends and making new nice ones together. Maybe Imogen ends up being part of the squad too! Her being aromantic would just be extra great and give the show some interesting themes to explore, as well as adding on to the breaking-away-from-expectations theme.
TLDR; Imogen had no reaction to Nick (a guy she claimed to have a crush on) cancelling their date last minute. She also sympathizes with his feelings of "realizing you're just doing things because other people expect you to". Also the subtle pressure of being expected to date at that age.
Oh no, now I really want aromantic Imogen, what have I done? Can you imagine how cool that would be?

List of thoughts that were in my brain through my watches of Heartstopper. Yes, I said watches. Normally this is where I apologize but you know what no. I owe it to my teen self to just unapologetically obsess over Heartstopper.
So welcome to part one of my Heartstopper Review Rambles.
 Spoilers for Heartstopper (show).
Part One - Overall Thoughts
Overall:
I had Charlie Spring for *cough*five minutes*cough* One Episode and my brain went “he Precious Bean - must protect”
I had Nick Nelson for One Episode and my brain went “he Golden Retriever - must protect” It conglomerated into Precious Beans because golden retrievers are inherently Precious Beans. I don’t make the rules.
Also love how the only one outside of Charlie who thought Nick might not be straight was Tori who saw Nick interact with Charlie Once and essentially went “there is no hetero explanation for this”.
Also my library has the Graphic Novels so I’ve been reading that and there’s a panel before where Charlie goes something like “but he’s straight” to Tori. But since the show doesn’t have that, it just looks like Tori saw Nick say goodbye to Charlie and just told Charlie that she didn’t think Nick was straight out of nowhere.
I go back and forth whether Tori heard the “you look so cuddly like that” part or just witnessed the hug.
Also love how everyone else was clearly basing it on stereotypes and other people’s opinions/rumours while Tori (and Charlie) were basing it on Nick’s interactions to/with Charlie.
Also I was already invested in Charlie by episode one but this boy just made damn sure I was not going to regret it by episode two. I will go into further details in the episode two post of this series-thing.
Charlie needs to stop listening to his friends when it comes to his dating life. If he needs a person on the outside, he needs to listen to Tori. She called it. So did Darcy so Charlie can listen to her as well but he wasn’t friends with her when that was going down.
Imogen is a sixteen year old with the awkwardness of a sixteen year old. There is no hate for Imogen on this blog.
I was going to say that one thing (besides sports) I didn’t relate to with Nick was his Bi Panic watching Pirates of Caribbean but after thinking back more, that would be a lie. I was also definitely bi panicking watching Pirates of the Caribbean.
Also I relate to Tori so much because I also drink through a straw.
Hot Take: Bubblegum milkshake is a great choice.

some heartstopper thoughts:
- i SO wish this show had existed when i was a teenager
- (it makes me a bit sad because it made me remember that i kinda missed out on all those cutesy innocent teenagery dates... like sure i did a little bit of stuff like that with the girl i liked but i didn’t know at the time if i really liked her, and by the time we got to uni... ugh you know what, i don’t want to go through this again in my head. basically it was rubbish)
- i looove how happy charlie gets over the tiniest of things (it’s also really sad too because he wants so little and even when he gets the tiniest of things which should be NORMAL, he’s just... so happy... and literally in some scenes you can feel his emotions just going upppp and downnnn like in that hotel party ep when he and nick are in that empty room, charlie’s just sooo hopeful, and then nick says something else, and he just internally crumbles, but then nick says something else again and you can literally feel... idk it feels like his heart is on a string and nick’s unknowingly tugging it up and down. but then it turns out okay because nick is soooo lovely
- and i think a lot of us just sat here in fear, hoping and hoping nick wouldn’t turn out to be a bastard or the show wouldn’t let us down, not because we thought nick is like that but because we’ve seen it SO MANY TIMES, i mean, fuck, the first lgbtq+ movie my friends group and i watched was fucking brokeback mountain and it was fucking lauded at the time as being like, omg gay! and it was the shittest ending ever. but still my bi friend loved it... and that’s how low our standards had to be back in 2005 (we were 15). (as an aside, i hate that movie skjdnkfgj not because of the sad ending but because i just found it really dull and i didn’t get the hype around it. yeah it’s gay but... if it had been straight, i think people wouldn’t have thought twice about it/realised it was pretty shit. and i’ve always wanted equal treatment for all things (i don’t know how to say this). like, why should i have to come out when a straight person doesn’t have to? why should i settle for a movie that is not that great? why can’t lgbtq+ things be as great and as happy as straight people movies? why should i have to settle for less??

Nobody asked for my SECOND review of Heartstopper: Season 1 *spoilers.... probably*
Okay, look.... I know what you’re thinking... You’ve already done a review of Heartstopper, why are you doing another one? WELL it’s because I’m legit obsessed and have watched it so many times as well as like a billion reaction videos (because obsessed) and have so many things to talk about and now I’m not tired so I’m gonna TALK. This time, though, I’m going to go in an order.  Specifically episode order with (hopefully) minor jumping around. Then I’m probably gonna do a couple more reviews of other things I’ve watched recently after that (but maybe not right after that).  So, hopefully I don’t reiterate things that I’ve already said too much, but here we go... again.
Meet
So, we start off with an adorable bang.  And by that I mean Charlie Spring just being adorable and as heck. Protecc the boy at all costs. And we start off with the bitch Ben.  Which, he can go jump in a hole.  Not Sebastian.... We love Sebastian.... We LOATHE Ben.  Like I hate him even more than I hate Harry.  Because with Ben it’s emotional manipulation, trauma, cheating, ASSAULT... with Harry it’s homophobia which is still horrible, but like Ben RUINED Charlie and made him think he was worthless and we HATE.  But thankfully we have our trusty golden retriever to try and start putting some pieces of Charlie back together.  I know there is a lot more to Charlie’s story that is explored later in the graphic novel series, but I haven’t read it yet (though they will be delivered to me this weekend, so maybe I will do a book review?), and already I can see that Charlie has been put through the ringer, so we PROTECC.  Anyways, some other things about this episode, the sports ball.  I know very little about sports (nor do I really care that much) but like rugby looks... rough... like I’m supposed to protecc and he be getting beat up on purpose.  But I saw an interview with Joe Locke about the running and he was talking about how difficult filming it was and like RELATABLE.  I can’t run.  I did the throwing stuff in track because running is like asking for me to injure myself. Sports ball is... something... that’s for sure. Also, quick mention of Tao getting Elle’s apple juice cause, AWWWW!!! And can we give a quick round of applause to the MVP of ever, Tori.  That GURL is my queen.  It’s such a simple scene but when he’s telling her about his breakup I always laugh at her “Well done, then.” I, also, adore when Charlie and Nick are talking about saying sorry and Charlie is like “.... I kinda wanna say it.” cause SAME.
Crush
Nick Nelson. Standing up for ya boo before he ya boo is bootiful. And I’m glad to see that we have another person on the PROTECC train. The snow scene is QUITE adorable in this episode.  And you added a dog? Do you want me to have a stroke? Like I feel like that was the goal here.  But, yeah, anyways.  The mario kart thing with the “Shut up!” was really cheesy but I couldn’t stop smiling, so clearly it is good cheese.  Moving on, I really saw how jaded I’ve become from other shows, because I was terrified when Tara and Darcy started becoming friends with Elle, but it simply is just adorable and not a horrible scheme.  Also, I love how good of friends Tara and Darcy are.  Like I know they’re dating, but it’s not like the awkward I like you and we hang out sometimes, it’s fully like you can tell it was a precious friendship before they fell in love and they already had this trust built between them because of it.  Like they are so cute. Next, going back to the bois, we love Isaac.  LOL you didn’t think I was going there, right? It does connect to the bois in question though, because we get the iconic line “I wanna believe in romance!” Because like that’s basically my life motto.  Charlie and Nick are so cute and I wanna believe in them too (in fact, I do believe in them too). Especially the almost hand holding with the animated sparks. ICONIC.  The drum teaching always makes me feel a slight bit awkward, though, because like that is a SMALL stool. But that’s literally the only reason.  Sometimes it’s the small things.  Lastly, My queen. “I don’t think he’s gay.” Legend PERIODT.
Kiss
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. First, I’m so sorry Imogen. She didn’t really do anything wrong.  Like the girl put herself out there, which is more than I can say about a lot of people.  She’s brave and I applaud her.  It sucks that it’s like... not gonna happen... like ever... But like she didn’t do anything wrong.  Then there’s the kisses.  Tara and Darcy are really cute together and I love how happy they look when they kiss.  They are actually so cute. And then Nick and Charlie. Literally one of the best kisses and lead-ups to kisses I have EVER seen.  So damn adorable. And then my poor panicking bisexual boy and my poor child who has done no wrong but thinks he has.  I don’t blame Nick for freaking out.  His who life is just a confusion at that moment.  And it seems like he just says what he says to Harry to get him off his back so he can find Charlie. And NICK ALWAYS MAKES UP FOR IT.  He isn’t perfect, but if he messes up, he makes sure to make up for it, which is SO REFRESHING.  Also, quick mention that Tao is WAY overprotective.  Like I get it to an extent but MAN it’s A LOT. He’s very dramatic and we appreciate him on the PROTECC Squad, but like just take a tiny step back.  Charlie still loves you.  Shoutout to Elle for being his calming force.
Secret
That kiss is epic.  I’ve already talked about it, but like UGH! So cute. Perfect, if you will.  Then poor child has to keep it a secret like with Ben, BUT IT’S NOT LIKE WITH BEN BECAUSE BEN IS AN ASSHAT WITH INTERNALIZED HOMOPHOBIA AND NICK IS LITERALLY JUST SO CONFUSED POOR CHILD! Also, A+ friendship for the friends coming the rugby game.  We love support!!! And Darcy is amazing coming to get acquainted with the local gays LOLLLLL! Speaking of... we have to address it.  Imogen... You kinda dumb.... Still didn’t really do anything wrong, but like... why... why did you talk.... in two ways.  Mostly in the first, because the second was an extension from the last episode in that she can’t help who she likes.  Also, I don’t blame Nick for saying yes.  Should he have? No. But, it was better than completely embarrassing her when the DICKS were watching. And NICK MAKES UP FOR IT CAUSE GOOD GUYYYYY!
Friend
Yet again, Tao is being VERY overprotective.  To the point that.. Yes I get you are trying to be the president of the PROTECC squad, but like... don’t make him sad on his birthday.  I am one who believes that birthday’s should be sacred, so if there is any even slight ruining of a birthday, I get upset.  Again, I see why, but sometimes, it’s a bit much.  Also, Charlie does need to be protected, however, he can still make his own decisions.  Like he’s gonna make mistakes like the rest of us (luckily Nick isn’t one of those) so there is a point where you should just trust him and if things do end up badly, you can be there to pick up the pieces.  I do love Tao, but sometimes... a bit much.  Speaking of Tao, though, this is the first time we see that there are actual feelings in the Elle and Tao situation.  I hope we get another season, because I would love to see that.  Moving on to the birthday boy.  I’m so glad that Nick chose to come to the party (even though it did have some awkward moments) because I just think it was completely adorable.  The best parts were when Nick and Charlie are flirting about Nick’s arms and just the way Charlie cutely says, “Shut up.” And the second adorable part is when Charlie leans closer to Nick and says “No being sad on my birthday.” It makes me chuckle and aww at the same time. And like I said, Nick MAKES IT RIGHT with the Imogen situation.  It’s one thing to say you’re going to make it right and another to actually do it.  Also, just the fact that Imogen makes a playful joke to the friends to get them off of their back really made me feel like the two of them actually were friends.  Like she isn’t as.... Eww as the others even though she’s kind of part of them.
Girls
I have a MAJOR issue with this episode, for one reason and one reason alone.  That is the milkshake date... So, I played trombone in band growing up - not anymore, I was rubbish and faked it most of the time so they thought I was playing when really I was just trying to hold up the instrument with my weak arms. ANYWAY, I know for a fact that Darcy and Tara play instruments that you have to blow into.  They had AT LEAST 2 milkshakes right before the concert. Like RIGHT before from what I could tell.  And from experience, you should not have sweets or something like a milkshake before you play an instrument that you have to blow into, because then your instrument will not be filled with just hot air, it will be filled with hot sticky air.  Which makes things STICKY! And NOT PLEASANT! That is asking for just not good stuff.  Like don’t! You know how you get that feeling in your mouth when you have dairy stuff too.  THAT’S ALL GOING INTO YOUR INSTRUMENT.  Like don’t eat that close to playing an instrument that you have to blow into!! Charlie is okay because he plays the drums, which, the last time I checked, you don’t have to blow into drums, and Nick, Tao, and Elle are okay because they’re not in band.  But TARA AND DARCY! AAAAAHHHHHHH!  I don’t know why it bothers me so much but it really does. Moving on, Girls are mean sometimes.  I am one.  I know how mean girls are.  ESPECIALLY to other girls. So, I understand Tara being upset because of the whole thing, but thankfully she has Darcy.  Also, I know I hate the milkshake stuff, but that was cute, with Nick telling Elle about him and Charlie and ESPECIALLY the cute adorable weirdness that ensued between Tao and Elle at the beginning.  I LIVED for that.  Since we’re going backwards, lets talk about how cute it was when Charlie got so excited that Nick told Tara and Darcy.  WE LIVE FOR THOSE BEAUTIFUL BOIS.  Is this the episode where Nick finds out he’s bi? If so, then it’s understandable that the Pirates of the Caribbean would show him da way, because like... they hot.
Bully
Bitches. Bitches and bitches. Bitch. Do I really even have to say more? Like Harry is a bitch.  Ben is a Bitch.  I’m not gonna lie though I almost angry laughed when Ben said, “I’m not even gay, I just felt really bad for you.” Cause like uhuh, Yeah... I believe you wink wink. Totally wink wink. Not gay wink wink.... That kid has PROBLEMS.  Thank you Nick for stepping up in the PROTECC Squad once again with Harry and actually punching the SONOFABITCH.  But let’s be real, the second we heard Nick say that Ben and Harry wouldn’t be there, we knew they would.  AND THEN they had the AUDACITY to say “Why is he here?” about Charlie. BITCH I DON’T EVEN THINK YOU WERE INVITED WHY ARE YOU HERE?!? Then we move on to Tao and him finding out that Nick and Charlie are ACTUALLY dating and getting upset.  Then the DICK Harry picks ANOTHER fight and Tao brings the BEAT DOWN. And he was holding his own, so like good on you!! But he’s upset about the whole Charlie not telling him and then says things he doesn’t mean, cause we all knew he would have fought Harry eventually and it wasn’t Charlie’s fault. But Charlie’s in a spiral and has already attempted to break it off with Nick at this point because he thinks it’s what is best for Nick and it just... it just.... doesn’t help anything.
Boyfriend
There are some MAJOR cheese moments in this episode, but I low key live for them. First, My queen is back at it again with being my queen. “I’m like 95% sure they were both Harry’s fault and I wasn’t even there.” QUEEN.  And the whole “You’re not ruining my life.” WE LOVE SUPPORTIVE SIBLINGS!!!!! WE LOVE SIBLINGS THAT SHOW THEIR LOVE.  HELL YEAH MY QUEEN.  And the teach!! Another MVP! “Don’t let anyone make you disappear.” PREACH! Also, love the announcer.  I believe it was Stephen Fry, but it was hilarious! He said what we all thought.  Moving on to the MAIN EVENT aka SPORTS DAY! Honestly, I’m American.  Sports Day doesn’t exist here, but it sounds horrible.  10/10 would have hated. I love that Charlie switches jerseys and runs for Tao and then they make up which DONT YOU JUST LOVE FRIENDS! It’s actually so cute.  And Charlie stands up to Ben which HELL YEAH!!! Then we have not one but TWO fake outs from Tao and Elle, which *Insert Tao’s RRRRRUDE here*.  Plus the montage of Charlie being a good supportive friend and holding Isaac’s book for him while he javelins. WE LOVE SUPPORTIVE FRIENDS!!! Also, we need more Isaac... Also, Tao needs a haircut... Also... I think that’s it.  And then there is the recreation of the High School Musical 3 scene at the basketball game with my poor sad Nick finally seeing Charlie and being like, no this can’t wait and just running to him.  It was so cute.  Kinda cringe but adorable. Mostly just cringe for the recreation of HSM3 part, because it’s so cute how Nick just doesn’t care and Imogen is just like AWW IT MAKES SENSE THAT’S SO CUTE but with her EYES. But that kiss is INTENSE compared to the others.  Like it had PURPOSE.  It was a callback to the second (third?) kiss but like very effective. And then the beach and THE PICTURES!!! SO DAMN CUTE.  The cringey ocean yelling that was also cute while being cringey and then THE MOMENT. Olivia Coleman is a legend.  She is just so amazing and the coming out scene was absolutely perfect.
Overall I can’t help but be obsessed.  I get this way sometimes.  I just love love OKAY?!? This was a much more comprehensive view of the entire season for me, episode by episode. I may not do it like this all the time, but probably definitely for my obsessions. The cast was amazing and from what I’ve heard, this is very true to the original story (which I will be reading soon) which is very exciting.  From what I’ve seen the cast is not only just straight (lol) up really good, they also even look like their characters.  It’s just so good and deserves a second season.  What else can I really say....
I want more Isaac and Tori.
That’s what I can say.

Ok, but let’s talk for a minute about just how good Nick and Charlie are for each other?? Not only romantically, but how their lifepaths are genuinely changed for the better because of their relationship?
Like, we know Charlie gave Nick the positive queer experience he himself never got to have and supported him through figuring out his sexuality. And Nick helps Charlie rebuild himself after Ben and the bullying, and his eating disorder.
It made me think about how things could have gone if they hadn’t met when they did. Beyond the aw-they-wouldn’t-get-to-meet-their-soulmate-☹ and to the sad, wider implications of not knowing each other.
Sorry for the incoming Way Too Long Ramble about what if Mr Lange had done the seating plan differently.
TW for discussions of canon eating disorders, self-harm and sexual assault.
Charlie
First off, I think Charlie would still break things off with Ben after seeing him with a girlfriend. But the big difference is there’s no Nick to discover Ben assaulting him, and to subsequently confide in about their relationship and reaffirm that Ben is the terrible, awful person.
So, we’re looking at a Charlie who is still carrying this toxic secret alone that could damage and tear away at his self-esteem even more than canon where he fairly quickly gets to build a healthy, loving relationship with Nick who actively combats a lot of the shit that Ben told him
(I wonder if eventually Charlie would have told Tori more?? About the guy who ‘made him feel like it would be better if he didn’t exist’. I hope so, because Charlie, my beloved, while you are an actual angel for not outing that piece of dickweed to anyone, you’re allowed to tell someone)
(Don’t even want to get into if the assault would have progressed further without Nick there. Probably Ben wouldn’t have gone beyond kissing. But it would still be more traumatic, and Nick’s discovery meant Ben was warier about coming near Charlie afterwards. Whereas no Nick means Charlie is constantly on guard avoiding Ben)
More under the cut.
Unquestionably Charlie still develops his eating disorder - and chances are it’s quicker and more severe than in canon, with all this extra crap going on.
The one bit of hope is that while it might take longer for other non-Nick people to notice his ED, I’m sure they would. Charlie still has a good support network, and someone – Tori, Tao, Elle, Isaac/Aled, Mr Ajayi – would pick up on it.
But still getting help, and his recovery process (especially around self-harm) would be much longer, and more painful given Nick was the one who first got through to Charlie and helped him talk to his parents.
And Tori and Nick were both the biggest supports for Charlie through it all – without Nick, poor Tori has so much more on her shoulders.
The events of Solitaire end up being even darker, as Nick/Charlie are basically the main bright spot in all that. So, you have an even sadder Charlie and Tori
When the air clears after an incredibly shitty few years you’d have a 16/17-year-old Charlie who is working on his ED, self-harm, and mental health, but bottom line is it’s a much more painful journey, and he’s probably more impacted by everything with Ben.
In terms of the wider friend group, probably the Paris Squad Charlie/Tao/Tara/Darcy/Aled-Isaac/Sahar unit still develops. Because Elle was really the one who connected the girls with the guys. So, at least Charlie would have that
But with wider popularity? Canonically he ends up Head Boy and is friendly with a lot of people. I’m thinking without joining the rugby team, expanding his social circle, and having Nick to build his confidence we’re seeing a more reserved version of Charlie. Maybe he’d just be like a prefect or something but not quite head boy?
So, by the end of high school you’ve got a recovering Charlie heading off to uni, but he’s carrying a lot of self-loathing and emotional scars that Nick chipped away at.
Nick
It feels like in the shorter-term Nick’s situation would be better than Charlie’s – but longer term everything goes to shit.
Initially not much would change – he’d play rugby, he’d have his friends who he doesn’t actually like but is accepted by, he’s in a group where he can never be fully himself
Basically, Nick is ok but he’s not happy – and not even fully aware of how ‘not-happy’ he is
Harry would still have pushed Tara & Nick together at his birthday and Tara might still have come out to him. But without Nick’s sexuality crisis or talking about his openly gay “probably-my-best-friend-right-now” I don’t think they would have connected so quickly
And he never would have been at the orchestra practice to see her again and plan lunch together, milkshake dates etc. So that means no befriending Tara/Darcy and not connecting with the Paris Squad
Things with Imogen would have developed in a similar way: chances are peak peer-pressured Nick would still be bulldozed into going on their date, but without his relationship with Charlie to enable him to cancel, you’re looking at it being dragged out way longer - it’s a question of how many dates they go on before Nick calls things off
Yeah, he would have stopped before they actually became boyfriend/girlfriend, but it’s still a much stickier situation all round and one that leaves him more alienated
Then he’d still go on the Paris trip but probably ends up rooming with Harry and co. so much less fun all round
On the friend’s front – he’d still have Sai/Otis-Omar/Christian, but in canon it seems like their friendship deepened when Nick got together with Charlie, and a line was drawn over who Nick’s true friends were?? Without that happening, their friendship likely stays more surface level and shallow
Similarly, I’m not seeing a Charlie-less version of Nick having the confidence to confront Stéphane and David
Coming out as bi, having Charlie to confide in about his feelings, and just generally being able to be more himself – all that contributed to Nick calling both of them out on their shit. Without those circumstances, you’ve got a more people-pleasing Nick who pushes his own feelings down, so nothing real gets addressed and both relationships remain toxic and distant.
Obviously the massive, massive question is when and how Nick has his “full-on gay crisis.” And that’s kind of impossible to say. It could still be at Truham over another guy, or might not be until after school (maybe at uni)
There are a hundred ways that could go – but I think the key thing is that without Charlie, the chances are Nick’s sexuality journey wouldn’t be nearly as positive or healthy. (Honestly, it’s often missed just how supportive and essential Charlie was through it all, and how wonderful it was that Nick got such a sweet first (only) boyfriend).
Also remember, Charlie is the only out guy at Truham – if Nick falls for someone else at school then they’re either straight or closeted, and Nick is hit with feelings that he has to deal with on his own
There’s no Charlie to make the first move, no Charlie to hold Nick while he’s breaking down, no Charlie to tell him it’s ok to figure things out, no Paris Squad to provide queer community, no Tara/Darcy to talk to. It’s Nick alone in his room with BuzzFeed quizzes and articles on conversion therapy
Luckily he does still have Sarah and he might confide in her at an earlier point than in canon, but in terms of actual friends to talk to? ☹
Again, as with Charlie, Nick would eventually be ok. He’d figure it out – but it would be a hell of a lot of lonelier, and he’d probably never come out or act on anything while still at Truham
If his sexuality crisis happened post-school (likely uni) …possibly that would be better?? Uni is less of a cesspool, he wouldn’t be as trapped with people like Harry, and could at least connect with LGBTQI+ groups on campus etc. But on the flipside, it’s a Nick whose had years more of repressing his true self so there would be more to untangle
Overall, whether he’s realised he’s bi or not, by the end of school you’re left with Nick who is doing fine enough and seems content, but is much less anchored in himself, represses important parts of who he is, and lacks a real, close community
Idk, what other people think. This is all assuming that Nick and Charlie don’t meet later during school (e.g., if Nick reached out to the collection of queer students at Truham during his bi crisis).
But basically, all that long ramble was saying that a Nick and Charlie without each other is a very sad thing to think about, and they’re 100% a couple who make each other better, happier versions of themselves <3
(Also sorry this is a frankenstein combo of Netflix and comics heartstopper. basically it just takes everything across both universes into account. Plus Solitaire, This Winter, N&C etc.

I just finished a BBC show called Jack and Alice. This is the third thing I’ve watched recently that made me cry like it was my grandfathers funeral all over again. The first on was a movie called All Of Us Strangers. I was not expecting it to end the way it did and it utterly destroyed me. I cried so hard that I was heaving by the end. I ran to Gary to comfort me, but he did the exact opposite. We were in a little fight right before and he was still pretty angry with me. So instead of him holding me while I ugly cried, I rolled over and it just made me sadder and I cried even more. Not a great way to end the night. The next thing I watched that destroyed me was the remake of the movie One Day. I know I watched the original movie, but I don’t think I liked it that much since I never re-watched it. They remade it into a Netflix series and I binged the whole thing in one night. Their relationship was messy and complicated which I found to be more realistic of what actual real life relationships are actually like. One of them died in a tragic accident at the end and once again I found myself crying in a ball in our living room. I didn’t run to Gary for comfort this time since it was like 1 am, and honestly I didn’t want a repeat of last time so I don’t think I would’ve anyway. I’m sure I disappoint him daily, but he disappoints me when it comes to any kind of comfort or intimacy every time I try for it, so I’ve resigned to give up trying most of the time. I started Alice and Jack a couple of weeks ago and have been avoiding watching the last episode. In the episode before the last one Alice found out she had stage 4 cancer after her and Jack had finally decided to be together after them trying and failing miserably at it for the last l5 years. I knew the last episode was gonna be Alice dying and I didn’t have the emotional bandwidth to handle it until today. I was wrong of course because I blubbered through the entire episode. I appreciate how real these 2 tv shows and 1 movie have been, but for fucks sake!!! I can only take so much. And now I have to wait and see whether one of my favorite teen dramas is gonna disappoint me too. The final episode of Young Royals drops Monday. The last episode was Simon telling Wilhelm “Love shouldn’t be this hard. Maybe it just won’t work. I can’t take it anymore.” You and me both honey!!! I have this sinking feeling like they aren’t going to end up together in the end, but trying to be optimistic. This last season is so good but also devastating at the same time. They started out so happy to finally be together but slowly the happiness deteriorated because of all of the shit going on around. They have had completely different upbringings and now have so many rules to follow and expectations put on them that I’m afraid it will unravel their deep love for each other and they’ll decide it’s easier to not be together. I hope not. At least I know that Charlie and Nick are going to end up together since Heartstopper is based on books that have already been written. The news about season 3 will be coming next week. Maybe that’ll cheer me up. We shall see.

After All These Years
Chapter Three — The Excuse
Word Count: 2.3k+
MASTERLIST - SEND ME A REQUEST
Tumblr media
Monday (right after his friends left)
Charlie went to bed feeling happy, despite what happened with him and Tao before dinner. He knew what Tao meant but he just wanted him to be on the same page when it came to Nick. Elle and Aled were supportive, so that definitely made him feel better.
He wanted to talk about his upcoming date with him, and he knew exactly who would be happy for him AND wouldn’t say anything to anyone.
(8:55 PM) Charlie - HE ASKED ME OUT
(8:56 PM) Aled - OMG
(8:56 PM) Aled - i mean i knew he would but still CHARLIE
Charlie told Aled pretty much everything that happened in his life, he felt like he was the person he could trust the most (other than his sister) so he had a safe feeling whenever he shared something with him. Especially when it comes to stuff like this.
(8:46 PM) Charlie - ok but is it just me or does he seem kinda interested in me
(8:58 PM) Aled - kinda? Charlie you have almost been on TWO dates with him
(8:58 PM) Charlie - i don’t want to get my hopes up
(9:00 PM) Aled - i know
(9:00 PM) Aled - don’t worry about it, just enjoy it and don’t say anything stupid
(9:02 PM) Charlie - LOL i’ll try <3
Tuesday
Charlie was feeling overwhelmed with work, and it wasn’t even lunch time yet. Every time he felt like this he would call someone to get his mind to focus on something or someone else, but to be honest, he only had one person in his mind right now.
He pulled out his phone and went straight to his contact list, scrolling down until he finally saw Nick’s name “Should I call him?” He asked himself, feeling how his heart was beating faster just thinking about calling Nick on a random Tuesday. He tapped on his name, getting more nervous by the second “Please don’t pick up, please don’t pi-”
“Hello?” Nick answered his phone, and Charlie couldn’t tell if he was confused or annoyed by his call. Either way he regretted it.
“Hey Nick, it’s Charlie”
“I know it’s you, hi” Nick said, letting out a small laugh. Charlie has never blushed so hard in his life.
“Hi” He replied smiling “How are you?”
“I’m good, how are you?”
“I’m okay, um- I was just really swamped with work stuff” Charlie stared at his desk, going through all the paperwork he needed to deliver to corporate by the end of the day.
“Me too, actually” Nick sighed.
“Oh- Sorry for interrupting you-  I didn’t mean to bother you, maybe we should talk some other time” Charlie stood up and started walking in circles, cursing himself for not asking if he was busy before calling him.
“No, it’s okay, really” Nick’s words were a relief “I think i could use a distraction right now”
“Oh- well me too, that’s kinda why I’m calling you, I hope that’s okay” He asked in a hopeful tone, pulling his chair closer to him before sitting back down.
“Yeah, it is” Nick replied, and this time he was the one blushing “I wanted to talk to you anyway”
“You did?” Charlie started feeling nervous again.
“I did, uh- about our date” Nick stopped for a moment before speaking again, which made Charlie's heart sink completely “Are you okay with not knowing what the date is? Or would you feel more comfortable if you knew what we’ll be doing?”
“Oh-” Charlie was not expecting that “I’m okay with not knowing. Is this a surprise kind of date?”
“Yeah, it is, but only if you’re fine with that” Nick said, just wanting to be 100% sure Charlie was okay with the whole surprise idea.
“I am. I promise” Charlie reassured him “That makes it more exciting, if i’m being completely honest”
Nick laughed nervously, knowing Charlie was excited made him feel a lot of things “Well, I really hope I meet your expectations then” They both laughed “I made a couple of promises after the picnic, I think”
“Oh, how are you gonna top that?” Charlie asked, jokingly.
“I've got my ways” Nick replied “I think you’ll like it”
They talked for another hour, but didn’t even realise it had been that long until Nick heard a knock on his door and someone asked him if he would order something for lunch. They had to hang up but Charlie almost didn’t mind, they had so much fun and he had to go back to work anyway.
Charlie decided to eat his lunch at his desk, making up for all the work he didn’t do because he was talking to Nick.
That phone call left Charlie’s mind running for the rest of the day. They had talked before the Valentine’s date happened, they were already friends but it was different now, and they were both aware of that. And it wasn’t a bad different, and even though that was scary for Charlie, he still wanted to have this.
Wednesday
Nick and Charlie’s date was on Friday, Charlie had no idea what they were doing and the week was going so slow he felt like it had been years since Nick asked him out, even though that happened just a couple of days ago.
He decided not to call Nick today, he didn’t wanna seem desperate or annoying. And although Nick would never think that of Charlie, he didn’t wanna take any chances.
Instead he focused on finishing as many reports as he possibly could, he didn’t wanna have to stay late on Friday if he fell behind on his work. He was glad he did, cause for some reason this week the workload was worse than ever before.
As the workday was coming to an end, Charlie felt like his head was about to explode. He didn’t stop for one second and he was mentally and physically exhausted. He was incapable of thinking about anything work related and just wanted to go home.
With 30 minutes left of his shift, he decided to just drop everything and relax for a bit, scrolling through instagram, checking out some of the pictures Elle and Tao posted from their Valentine’s Day trip. He then started thinking about how he didn’t have a single picture of his Valentine’s Day, and if it would be inappropriate to take one on Friday. But his thoughts were interrupted by a notification.
(4:34 PM) Nick - This character from the ad I just got looks just like you
(4:34 PM) Nick - Attachment: 1 Image
Charlie involuntarily smiled before opening the message. Nick sending him random stuff was a different level of communication. Once he opened the picture and scanned the character, he didn’t think it looked like him. Actually, he didn’t look like him at all.
(4:36 PM) Charlie - WHAT it literally doesn’t
(4:36 PM) Charlie - you’re only saying that cause he has curly hair and blue eyes
(4:37 PM) Nick - And dimples, that definitely looks like you
“He has seen my dimples?” Charlie wondered, feeling like a teenager almost kicking his feet.
Thursday
Charlie was starting to stress over what he was going to wear on their date. He had nice clothes and all but not knowing what they were doing made it really hard to put an outfit together. And he didn’t wanna show up underdressed or overdressed.
When he came back home from work he went over his closet what felt like a million times, pulling out a few things and putting them back in when he didn’t find a way to properly style them “I’m sure it’s not a big deal” He thought, trying to take some pressure off himself “But what if it is?”
He didn’t wanna ask Nick about it, he didn’t wanna ruin the surprise he had planned for the night. So he decided to wear something close to what he wore on Valentine’s Day, not lazy but also not too over the top.
Feeling a little silly and overprepared, he left his outfit perfectly laying on the chair next to his bed, ready to be worn the next day.
He actually felt better doing this, knowing he won’t have to worry about that five minutes before leaving gave him some sense of calmness and control over the situation. Looking forward to something (especially a date) made Charlie more anxious than he would like to admit.
Friday
Finally. After a million years, the date was finally happening.
The day went by quicker than any other day. Doing everything he could to stop his mind from feeling nervous and anxious about later that night. But also checking his phone every ten minutes to see if Nick had tried to contact him at all. He hadn’t.
As the time of the date was getting closer, Charlie was feeling even more nervous, and in a desperate attempt to distract himself he decided to call Aled. In Charlie’s eyes, Aled always knew what to say.
“Hey” Aled picked up with a happy tone “Everything okay?”
“Hey” He replied “Yeah I’m fine, how are you?”
“I was just about to leave, I have new sound equipment I need to pick up before the store closes” Aled said as he walked out to the parking lot “Are you nervous about today?” He asked Charlie.
“Oh don’t even mention it, I’ve never checked the time so much in my life” He said laughing in embarrassment.
“So how did this happen anyway?” Aled asked curious, since Charlie never got to tell everyone the story of how things actually went.
“What? With Nick?”
“Yeah, obviously”
“Well, it wasn’t like… planned, at all” Charlie told him “I had different plans, do you remember the guy from the bar?”
“Yeah”
“He stood me up, so I was driving back home and Nick just called me to borrow a game”
“Borrow a game?” Aled asked, confused.
“Yeah, i don’t know” Charlie said “He asked me about a game I bought one time i ran into him at the store, it was really expensive too cause I guess the Spider-Man game on release day is like exclusive or something”
“Spider-Man game? Charlie, you don’t even like superheroes”
“Ugh” Charlie grunted “I just didn’t want him to think I was following him so I grabbed a game and he got really excited when he realised what game it was” Charlie admitted “He even stayed there to talk to me for a little bit”
“So you bought it, of course you did” Aled said, almost in a sarcastic way “So he called you on Valentine’s Day to borrow a game?” He asked, putting a few pieces together “Sounds like he just needed an excuse to talk to you”
“What? No, he just wanted to borrow a game” Charlie said, brushing Aled’s theory off.
“Maybe. Did he tell you when he was giving it back?”
“Well… He went to my house the next day to give it back but I told him he could keep it for longer” Charlie said “I’ll probably tell him to keep it forever, I know I will never play it anyway”
“So he used the same excuse twice? You can’t possibly be this oblivious”
Charlie didn’t say anything for a moment, he didn’t think Nick was using the game as an excuse, he knows Nick likes video games and Marvel, so it made sense that he just wanted to play it. But on the other hand, it did seem a little weird he was ready to give it back the very next day, and casually asked him if he was doing something. But Nick did say he would be too busy to play so… who knows.
“Is that why he was there on Monday, before we arrived at your house?” Aled had the suspicion that Nick was the one behind Charlie.
“Yeah, he also asked if I was doing anything but I had to say yes cause you guys were coming to dinner” Now Aled knew for sure.
“Charlie, you can’t keep denying this” Aled said, happy for his friend “He definitely likes you!”
“STOP, I can’t think that right now, not when I’m literal hours away from seeing him” He replied,
“Okay, I’ll stop, but he definitely does” Aled heard Charlie giggle on the other line “Hey, and don’t worry about Tao. You don’t have to feel pressured to tell him about it, if this is your thing then that’s ok, and if you wanna keep it for yourself and Nick I think you should. Just know that doesn’t make you a bad friend”
Charlie smiled at Aled’s words, he loved the insight he always gave him, no matter what was happening with him, he always seemed to be able to read deeper into the situation and make him feel better about stuff.
“Thanks” He genuinely was thankful “I love you”
A couple of hours later Charlie was entering his home, walking through the main entrance and up to his room, going straight for a shower. He hadn't talked to Nick but they agreed to meet at his place at 7, so he had a little time to get ready before he got there.
After doing everything he needed to, he stared at himself in the mirror, checking out his outfit and for the millionth time, wondering if he should change into something else. Even if he wanted to, it was too late now. He heard the doorbell, which made him scream inside. Charlie ran to the door, trying to fix his hair one last time before opening it.
“Hi” There he was, standing in front of him with a little blue box on his hands.
“Hi” Charlie smiled.
“You look great” Nick was smiling at him so widely Charlie though he could throw up.
“Thank you, you do too” He laughed nervously looking at Nick blush at his words.
“Are you ready?” Nick asked, putting one of his hands behind him.
“I’m ready”

Every so often, something comes along and makes me stop and think. Reflect on my life, where I am, what I am doing and if I am being my best self.
HeartStopper the comic series by @aliceoseman came to life on TV thanks to Netflix. The series has a huge following and the TV series brought it to so many more people. Watching It and reflecting gave me one of those - ‘Oh!’ moments. I have been thinking about the story for days now and I think my ‘oh!’ moment is becoming a full crisis - I need to do something about it!
The story arch for Nick Nelson (played by Kit Conner), is what made me stop. I see so much of myself in Nick. Even down to being the Golden Retriever! His boldness, wanting to assist, protect, love. The way he falls hard for Charlie (Joe Locke). It filled me with such joy and happiness. The story arch for Charlie is equally as good. I was outed at school when I was 13. It disappeared as an issue, but hung over me. I suspect being one of the tallest in the school meant my school colleagues knew better than to wind me up. To be honest, I’m still not comfortable. I see, feel and know the pain Charlie had and the joy when it was ‘his time’. My immediate thought when it finished was what’s their life going to be in later years? You just know the story of theirs will not end and be filled with joy. The constant coy looks and smiles, the encouragement and recharging they give each other. It’s a relationship we all want the world to win. I really want them to win! Get married have kids and at least two Golden retrievers! (In my future for them - that is what happens!) we hear of straight people meeting at school - why not these guys!
Being able to fall in love in the way Nick does with Charlie - and Charlie with Nick - is what I need and need everyday. I can see them falling for each other every single day! I fell in love with my Husband - at least I think I did - when we started dating. That HeartStopper moment when we met in the early days. Did it continue? I am not sure. I don’t feel the blowing of leaves when I see him. The excitement is not there and this is what’s making me wonder about my current situation- am I living MY HeartStopper moment?
Finishing the series, I read the rest of the episodes online and understand there is an epilogue. Its made me happy knowing Nick is there for Charlie. Is there something I can learn from it and apply to my life. There were two things that got me in the series.
One: it is great to see that the generation coming up are able to be themselves a lot earlier! There is still a lot of shit to be dealt with, but I know it’s great to see the little sparks. Nicks Mum being able to say he seems more himself goes to show how comfortable he is! I knew I liked boys - and only boys - when I was about 7. My first crush - a lad called James. Tall, confident, and good looking. Through my life I hid, scared but never really myself. The fact Charlie was outed, but had a support network in true friends is something I didn’t have - everyone laughed at me - I have no real friends from school because of it. But Nick feeling safe to come out is something I could of only dreamed of. Even today I know there are scars from a life of hiding, unable to let go of control. It is tiring. Also, even at my age, I’ve never officially told my parents! But I wouldn’t have had the support! I was told by my Dad I wasn’t gay - he had had me ‘tested’ and proved I wasn’t. No idea what the ‘test’ was - but now know it is total crap!
Two: recharging. This happens in Paris in the books - Nick wants to be recharged by Charlie in a hug with him. I love the fact that Nick finds Charlie recharging and it is something I have known and felt in certain aspects of my life but at the minute - it’s just not happening. My work sucks, my relationship is tough (I know they are not easy), life just seems impossible! Why? I am not being recharged. Before the pandemic I had a job I loved, I was just married, and things were good. Every aspect of my life was recharging me. Now - nothing! Being recharged is important and you need to have things that recharge you.
Something has triggered in me. I need this constant ‘first time love’, that falling in love every time we meet. Can I truly say that is happening now? No. It’s not. So I need to do something about it! But what? Well - I didn’t buy an orange T-Shirt. The one that Nick wears to the beach. That’s going to be a constant reminder to be more Nick! Today, I can say that I am not living my best life. Give it time and I will work out the rest of it!

The Easter Dragon
Charlie Weasley x Reader
A/N: Happy Easter to all you lovely people!
Word Count: ~ 1.800
Tumblr media
With a sigh of relief, Charlie shut the door to his old room behind him and leaned against it for a moment. The Burrow was a madhouse today; all his brothers and his sister had arrived with their families to celebrate Easter with the Weasley grandparents. His parents loved their house being filled with the laughter of countless children once more, but Charlie was glad for the respite his old room provided him.
Everyone was here already, except for you. You weren’t scheduled to arrive until tomorrow, for the actual Easter celebrations. There had been some last minute emergency back at the dragon reserve that had demanded your immediate attention; under usual circumstances, Charlie would have stayed as well, but the circumstances were anything but usual this time.
He carefully placed his bag on his old bed and produced the giant chocolate egg he had secretly crafted in your kitchen back in Romania before he had left for England. His mother had told him how to do it; gifting each other chocolate eggs had been a tradition in the Weasley family since Charlie could remember.
He had given it his all; he had spent countless hours meticulously carving the scales out of the crimson coloured chocolate before he had sprinkled it with a fine layer of golden glitter to make it look like the egg of a Chinese Fireball; he knew they were your favourite breed.
Charlie brushed his old dragon miniatures on the desk to the side with his elbow before he delicately placed the dragon egg on the wooden surface. He lifted the top off and set it aside before he dug deep into the pocket of his trousers and pulled out the small red box containing your present and placed it in the middle of the lower half. He assembled both halves again, making sure the scales on the outside were aligning, and sealed the crack in the chocolate with a flick of his wand.
He observed his work with a self-satisfied grin before placing the egg in the wicker basket he had stuffed with hay and some smaller chocolate eggs and pushed it back under his bed until the time for its great appearance had come.
Relieved that this part of your surprise was finished, he left the room to go help Bill put up the garden decorations his mother had forced on him, whistling happily to himself. He was so caught up in his thoughts, he didn’t notice the two intrigued pairs of eyes watching him leaving his room from the shadow of the crooked staircase.
*
When he returned an hour later, he stopped dead in his tracks upon finding the door to his room standing slightly ajar. The colour drained from his freckled face as he frantically raked his mind for the memory of whether he had locked the door or not. He pushed it open and went straight for the hiding place of his special Easter basket. He crouched down on the floor to peek under the bed and found his worst fear confirmed; the basket was gone.
His heart pounded faster as the panic started to set in; he had to find the dragon egg again. He searched the whole floor for it, then the next one down, and the ground floor afterwards. He was just rummaging through the kitchen as the sound of crinkling paper and giggles reached his ears from the adjacent living room.
Charlie spun around and followed the laughter to find his nieces and nephews assembled in a circle on the carpet, surrounded by heaps of coloured wrapping paper, mouths smudged with chocolate. In the middle of the carnage sat his basket, the red dragon egg the last thing to survive the feast.
“Where did you get that?” he asked them with the sternest Uncle-Charlie-voice he could muster.
The little rascals froze on their spot as their eyes collectively darted to their scolding uncle.
Little Lily finally plucked up her courage to answer him. “The Easter Bunny brought us chocolate!” she stated defensively. “We were even sharing!”
Charlie stemmed his hands into his hips. “The Easter Bunny, huh? Does this,” he pointed to his chocolate dragon egg, “look like a regular Easter egg to you?”
They all shook their head. “No, Uncle Charlie,” muttered Hugo.
“That’s because it’s something special,” Charlie lowered his voice conspiratorially. “It belongs to the Easter Dragon.”
James crossed his arms in front of his chest critically. “The Easter Dragon?”
“Exactly,” Charlie crouched down next to them. “He lives in Romania and like proper dragons do, he guards his treasure until the time is right. And he wants you to give his egg back.”
James hummed and leaned over to his cousin Fred II without taking his eyes off Charlie. “Do we believe that, Freddie?”
The other boy shook his head. “Not at all, James.”
“Thought so.” With a sudden lunge forward he tackled Charlie, who immediately lost his balance and crashed to the ground. James wrestled Charlie’s wand from the waistband of his trousers and held it up triumphantly before leaping off his stunned uncle.
“Run!” he shouted to the other children. Fred grabbed the precious egg and lead the pack out into the garden in a full sprint, James hot on his heels.
Charlie cursed in Romanian and scrambled to his feet. He cursed again as he realised his wandless state and set off after them.
Although their legs were fundamentally shorter than his, they were surprisingly fast, he had to give them that.
He was chasing them through the garden and back into the house again. George had joined him as he had leapt over the fence of the chicken compound. “Why are we running?” he had shouted at Charlie with his unmistakable mischievous laugh, but Charlie had been too out of breath to answer.
They raced them through the kitchen and up the stairs to the top landing. Charlie thought they had them cornered there, but these kids were surprisingly resourceful. They had climbed out of the window and onto the roof one by one and were clambering down on the many nooks and ledges of the Burrow by the time Charlie had reached them.
He could hear Hermione hysterically screaming from outside as she saw Hugo dangling from the ancient drains, but by the time she had her wand out, he had already let go and landed safely in James’s arms.
Charlie dashed down the stairs again with newfound determination; if he managed to reach the porch before they did, he would be able to intercept them and get his treasure dragon egg back.
He skittered out of the patio door to see the kids already making their way off the porch in the direction of the fields unfolding behind their garden. Freddie was still carrying the egg under his arm.
As they passed Victoire, who was lounging in a sunchair at the end of the patio, flicking through the pages of a magazine, she stuck her foot out all of a sudden without even batting an eye. James, who had been running in front, stumbled and came crashing down on the floorboards; the other children were unable to stop their momentum and tripped over him, landing on top of each other in a cluster of arms and legs.
“That’s for ratting Teddy and me out earlier,” Victoire stated indignantly, got up and strutted off.
Charlie was finally able to catch up with them, this flanks burning from the lack of air. As Freddie scrambled to his feet rubbing his elbow, he was able to take in the amount of damage the fall had wreaked on what had been the focal point for his great surprise for you only an hour ago.
The crimson chocolate egg had crushed beneath the weight of his nieces and nephews, the shattered remains scattered all over the floor. Charlie’s eyes quickly scanned the area for the small box the egg had held; unseen by the children, it had rolled under Victoire’s sunchair. Before anyone else could get their hands on it, he quickly scooped it up.
“What in Godric’s name happened here?”
Charlie jumped at the familiar voice coming from behind him. He quickly got up off the floor and hid the box behind his back as he turned around to face you.
He smiled in what he hoped looked like a surprised and innocent way as you strode up the steps from the garden to place a quick kiss on his lips.
“What’re you doing here already, love?” he murmured against your lips. “I thought they needed you back at the reserve until tomorrow.”
You hummed as you smiled up at your oddly flustered looking boyfriend. “We were able to settle things quicker than we thought we would, so I caught an earlier portkey.” You eyed him up and down. “Is everything alright?”
He was spared an answer as the kids, who had disentangled themselves from one another, took note of who had just arrived.
“Auntie Y/N!” they screeched as the raced past Charlie and almost knocked you back down the steps into the grass.
You laughed and ruffled their hair. Lily hugged your waist tightly and exclaimed “Look at what we nicked from the Easter Dragon!” She was waving one of the bigger shards of the chocolate egg in your face.
Your eyes found Charlie’s as you smiled down at the girl; they were shining with the laughter mirrored on your face. “The Easter Dragon, huh? Now that’s a dragon I’d like to meet; do you want to tell me all about him?” You picked Lily up and made your way over to the big tree at the corner of the garden where the old swing Charlie and his siblings had played on when they were children was situated.
All the kids followed her without so much as another glance at their uncle. Only Lily stuck his tongue out to him over your shoulder.
Charlie smiled to himself at the sight of you surrounded by the youngest members of your family. He opened the box he had still held hidden behind his back until now to check its content. He sighed with relief upon seeing that the ring situated inside was unharmed.
“Do you think she noticed something?” Bill had walked up to him, leaning on the railing lining their porch and casting a quick glance at his younger brother.
Charlie snapped the box shut again and stuffed it deep into his pocket. “I don’t think so.”
“And what are you going to do now? Your plan seems pretty much ruined to me.”
Charlie shrugged it off. “Doesn’t matter,” he grinned, “the Easter Dragon always finds a way.”
