he’s got a name now
he’s had his name forever
no amount of salt
can scorch this earth
for worse or better
the sirens can be silenced
but there’s been a mistake here
the roots are growing deeper
but the branches all bent and cracked
what she takes from the earth
the earth took from the sky
and none of the pictures
from all of those painters
capture anything she saw that night
I’ve been dreaming of faces
but I don’t recognize them anymore
something in the way the winter leaves
makes me hate New York
It’s almost that time
when the sun peeks out again
I get around
in the easy heat
but cut my ties by sunset
I won’t say that I miss you
but I was wondering if you miss me
I’ll never ask
or dare to guess
but damn if I don’t want to see
learn to keep your body low
cast as little shadow as you can
the light has everywhere to go
unless you stop it
snapshots and footsteps
like a drawn out tango
one to do
and one to view
body or time divide

i wrote this little text few years ago. the original is a bit longer - the only reason to edit and remove some parts was that in that point of my life, majority of my opinions and views on things were just starting to form, which means, well, few sentences were like straight out of r/menwritingwomen. fortunately, i am slowly growing up and realizing stuff; plus, the process of realisation of these things in particular wouldn't even started without my dear friend, who read my texts with a critical eye and wasn't afraid to tell me the (then very painful) truth. although that time i cried and came up with excuses, i am so so thankful to him now.

Bosé nohy jej poskakovali po mäkkom koberci, miestnosťou sa rozliehala hudba. Tancovala, akoby ju nik nevidel. A okrem nej tam naozaj ani nikto nebol. Iba ona, celkom nahá, vlniac sa a skákajúc do rytmu a melódie hudby. Raz s rukami za hlavou krúžiac panvou, raz robiac lastovičku a pirouetty sťa baletná virtuózka, raz natriasajúc zadkom, či prsiami.
Z vázy plnej pivónii vytiahla tú najkrajšiu a zastokla si ju do hustých vlnkavých vlasov. Cítila sa slobodná, nikým a ničím nerušená. Cítila sa ako kráľovná priestoru a času. A skutočne v tej chvíli aj bola. V ten moment sa stala definíciou krásy, radosti, dokonalosti. Stala sa symbolom slobody, múzou lásky, bohyňou sexuality, dcérou samotného Erota.
Nežná, a predsa divoká. Nevinná, a predsa dravá. Krehká, a predsa mocná. Malinká telom naproti celému vesmíru, a predsa vesmír bol taký malinký naproti jej duši.

ꕥWomen’s Dayꕥ
Tumblr media
Happy International Women’s day!! I hope everyone had a lovely day today :] I thought this would also be the perfect excuse to write some demon slayer characters and what they would do for women’s days!! Also The internet NEEDS more Enmu content so I am here to deliver.
Warning!: Mention of spicy time (not in detail or anything), Muzan being a lil asshole (not surprising) and some very handsome demons. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!
Akaza
Tumblr media
🌒
Akaza clears all his plans for women’s day!! He makes sure to have the day OFF. He finishes his missions on time and gets everything done before this day.
Literally always remembers and wakes you up with kisses on your face, gently murmuring “Good morning” as he sets a vase of flowers on the bedside table.
This day is so special to him, It’s the day he has an excuse to just shower you in love! Akaza makes this day like a second anniversary, He lives for it!
Silent late night walks in a forest near a river or stream, maybe a little picnic too^^ He admires the moonlight on your skin and the way you smile as you tug his arm to walk faster.
Chocolates, Flowers, Jewellery you name it! This guy is on top of his game and won’t let you down, Not like it’s even possible to be let down by Akaza BUT YK-
He’s your little puppy for the day! So cute
Akaza is so sweet 10/10 HUSBAND MATERIAL!
Douma
Tumblr media
🌑
Okey so here’s the thing, Douma wouldn’t plan it. He probably forgot until one of his followers mentioned it or (if you have a calendar because lets face it Douma wouldn’t have one) He’d check a calendar and be like “Oh yeah!” *snaps fingers*
He’ll shower you with attention and love! His gifts include Jewellery and New clothes! If you like reading, Douma might find a way to get his sharp lil hands on a book you’ve wanted for a long time^^
I don’t think he’s such of a chocolates type guy though, That’s okey though! He makes up for it I promise!!
While he can’t eat normal human food, He’d make his followers make you some so he can munch on a human while you eat your normal food.
Unless you are a demon, then yippe! You share a human together 💖 So romantic
Douma is a clingy little dog (ignore that he is clingy no matter what day-)
9/10💖
Muzan
Tumblr media
🌕
Muzan would definitely forget or perhaps he doesn’t really care?? Who knows.
Doesn’t see why it’s important. I mean, It’s not like he gets a ‘International Men’s day’ so he doesn’t see what’s so special in Women’s day (🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩)
Nevertheless, if he sees you upset about him not celebrating it then he’ll sigh and walk to your side, wish you a (Rather forced) happy women’s day and hug you. Muzan hugs are very rare, THATS HIS GIFT TO YOU
Don’t expect gifts. Don’t expect special treatment. Don’t expect worship. Don’t expect lovey dovey romantic dates.
It’s not like he doesn’t love you, Muzan loves you!! You are his Queen and he’d die without a second thought for you, its just that he thinks it’s stupid and its a waste of time to be upset about it.
-1/10. GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER MUZAN!
Enmu
Tumblr media
🌔
I think everyone knows that Enmu treats you like a Goddess on the daily anyways but MY GOD
Maybe won’t give you flowers but his hands and eyes are all over you, He just can’t let you go for the whole day
He’s so sweet, He’ll do anything u say!! He’s so sweet it’ll make your teeth rot
You two probably share a meal of some sorts
Probably wrote you a poem for the occasion
If you are a demon, a picnic on top of the train is a must!! I wouldn’t recommend if you are a human though, Stream blowing directly on your face might cause respiratory issues-
Might turn a little spicy at the end of the night 🤭
9/10 GET YOURSELF A MAN LIKE ENMU (and pls gimme more Enmu fanfics I’m desperate 😭)
Kokushibo
Tumblr media
🌗
Like with Muzan, He probably doesn’t remember. Infact, I don’t think he’d even know something like this existed. He won’t even notice until you confront him that it’s women’s day.
A bit confused tbh. Why is there a women’s day? What do you do on women’s day? Does this even exist or are you just trying to get him to pay attention to you? Is he supposed to give you something?
He’ll remember from that day on, Wishing you a Happy women’s day every year.
Maybe he’ll take you stargazing if you’re lucky
Give him loads of kisses! He’ll make it up to you by little gestures such as holding your hand or kissing your hand
6/10. Good effort Koku
Tumblr media
Thank you so much for reading Sugar Cookie! Until next time!! Remember, Requests are open^^

shame is learned. celebrating autonomy & the potential to unlearn & deprogram conditioned thought processes. my poem for yesterday's international women's day. poem from my poetry collection, songs of youth. written in 2017 after learning about a case of gendered violence which happened in my home country, and reading social media comments attached to news about it. it made me realise how the dynamic that leads to such violence was being (and is) continuously perpetuated in social spaces in different forms (such as speech, enforcing gendered constructs) & how women were active agents in its perpetuation as well. to unlearn is to become free.

8th March
Warning by Jenny Joseph
Today is International Women’s Day, which celebrates the cause of female emancipation and empowerment across the globe. Joseph’s poem is not just a comical statement of intent by a woman to break conventions of social behaviour when she becomes old, but is also a very female cry of freedom from expectation and constraint.

Warning
When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn’t go, and doesn’t suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we’ve no money for butter.
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick the flowers in other people’s gardens
And learn to spit.
But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example to the children
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.
But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.
With patriarchy, misogyny, rape, sexual abuse and FGM still so prevalent in the world, the cause of womankind has still, sadly, a very long way to go.

whoa international womens day, thank you women <3 sapphic ask game questions back at ya 9, 10, 12, 23, 32, 34
LOVE women happy birthday women
9. do you have a "type"? if so, what is it?
Answered here 🧡
10. did you do anything gay as a kid that makes sense when you look back on your childhood?
Answered here 🧡
12. good sapphic books/poems/authors?
I'm going to talk mostly fiction because I haven't read a lot of sapphic non fiction (though I would like to! If anyone has any recommendations) I'm just going to list some books with queer women characters/authors I've enjoyed and have been very impactful for me over the years: Our Wives Under the Sea - Julia Armfield, The Miseducation of Cameron Post - Emily Danforth, We Are Okay - Nina Lacour, The Animals at Lockwood Manor - Jane Healey, Last Night at the Telegraph Club / A Scatter of Light - Malinda Lo. Honourable mention also to The Haunting of Hill House. I haven't read a lot of lesbian poetry either but there's a few Carol Ann Duffy poems that I can't think of the name of that were very important to me as a teenager.
23. do you like being referred to with masculine adjectives, feminine adjectives, both, or neither?
Generally I much prefer feminine adjectives, but I also don't mind masculine or neutral. But I do like feminine adjectives the most.
32. tell a funny story about something really gay you've done.
I don't know if I have any stories that are funny. I was in love with my friend and they were in love with me for months before either of us said anything. Then we dated for three years idk is that funny.
34. who's a sapphic person you look up to? they can be someone in your life, a historical figure, a celebrity, etc!
Hannah Hart was a huge part of me figuring myself out as a teenager, I owe a lot what she shared on YouTube in the early 2010s. And I used to get told a lot that I looked like her lol.

Finding Your Voice: Exploring Female Mentorship in Writing
For centuries, women have fought for their voices to be heard, not just in society but also in the literary world. Today, while they are a force to be reckoned with in the book publishing industry, their journey remains paved with challenges. Aspiring women writers often face a lack of representation, struggling to find mentors who understand their specific experiences and perspectives. However, the power of female mentorship can be an invaluable force in helping them hone their craft, navigate the industry, and find their unique voice.
Tumblr media
The Importance of Mentorship for Aspiring Women Writers:
Beyond the general guidance offered by mentors of all genders, female mentorship offers a unique level of understanding and support for aspiring women writers. They can share their own experiences of navigating a historically male-dominated industry, offering insights and advice specific to the challenges women face. This can include battling gender bias, overcoming self-doubt, and finding the confidence to present their authentic voices.
Books for International Women's Day:
Reading works by established female authors is a fantastic way to immerse yourself in diverse voices and stories. Celebrating International Women's Day by delving into their empowering narratives can be a source of inspiration for aspiring writers. Consider reading works like Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's "Half of a Yellow Sun," Arundhati Roy's "The God of Small Things," or Margaret Atwood's "The Handmaid's Tale." These powerful stories showcase the depth and breadth of female authors' voices and remind you of the impact your own writing can have. Here are other 5 Must-Reads for International Women’s Day - Brave Healer
Becoming a Better Writer by Reading:
Curious about How Reading Can Help You Become a Better Writer? Developing your writing skills is crucial, and reading is an essential part of the process. By engaging with a wide range of books, especially those penned by female authors, you can observe their masterful use of language, character development, and storytelling techniques. This allows you to refine your own voice, learn from different writing styles, and discover what resonates with you as a writer and reader.
How Female Mentorship Empowers Aspiring Writers:
The benefits of female mentorship extend far beyond the practical advice on writing and navigating the publishing world. It fosters a sense of community and belonging. In a space where women are often underrepresented, knowing that established women writers are there to support your journey can be incredibly empowering. It allows you to see yourself in a future where your own voice can reach a wider audience.
Examples of Powerful Female Mentorship:
Several successful female authors have established strong mentorship programs or actively provide guidance to aspiring writers. Maya Angelou, known for her iconic poem "Phenomenal Woman," was a vocal advocate for the importance of mentorship and often offered words of encouragement to aspiring writers, particularly women. Toni Morrison, another literary giant, was a dedicated mentor to many young writers, including Nobel Prize laureate Kazuo Ishiguro. These examples showcase the lasting impact mentors can have and the critical role they play in nurturing future generations of literary voices.
Finding the Right Mentor:
While there's no single path to finding the perfect mentor, exploring online communities, attending writing workshops or conferences, and connecting with authors you admire can help you connect with potential mentors who share your interests and writing style. Be proactive, research potential mentors, and reach out with a personalized message expressing your genuine interest in their guidance.
Building a Supportive Network:
While finding a formal mentor is incredibly valuable, building a network of supportive women writers can be equally important. This network can offer a space for peer review, feedback, and encouragement. Participating in online forums, attending writing retreats targeted towards women, or connecting with local writing groups are great ways to build this valuable support system.
Conclusion:
Finding your voice as a writer is a continuous journey, and female mentorship can be a powerful tool throughout the process. The guidance, encouragement, and sense of community offered by these experienced women can help you navigate challenges, hone your skills, and reach your full potential. So, seek out the voices that resonate with you, embrace the power of female mentorship, and embark on your writing journey with confidence, knowing that your unique voice deserves to be heard.

She co-founded the Feminist Arts Program at the University of Massachusetts Women’s Center where she published and edited, Chomo Uri, a women’s multi-arts magazine and produced the first National Women’s Poetry Festival in 1976. Her poetry has been published in numerous journals and anthologies, including international publications.
windflower is also a photographer celebrating the #poetry in #nature.
PRAISE FOR AGE BRINGS THEM HOME TO ME by windflower
This is a beautiful book, written by a contemplative and generous poet with a musician’s ear and a photographer’s eye. The metaphors sprinkled throughout—“Tiny tongues of sand,” “moist chiffon of fog,” “lips of clothespins,” “skirt of the ocean.”—all add up to a rich and sensual reading experience. The sound and rhythm of lines such as “Make me your summer lullaby” and “our waterbed a boat in its own warm harbor” beg to be read aloud and simply made me swoon. In the last section of the book, the poems widen into a provocative and intelligent exploration of social justice; the poem, “My First History Lesson” alone is worth the price of admission. This book is both soothing and exciting and these poems will stay with me for a very long time. All in all, a very profound reading experience.
–Lesléa Newman, author of the dual memoir-in-verse, I Carry My Mother and I Wish My Father
Here is a book about loss and connection – written with the power and imagination of an accomplished poet who invests the feminine spirit with love, power, grace and redemption. She traces love from the blue found in her grandmother’s hands through the wisps of blue that brush across the sky and lands in the cornflower color of her wife’s eyes.
Here is a woman who has found a cathedral in nature that blesses her with endless images: beauty, joy, pain, and love with a depth that illumines all parts of the poet’s life and yet at the climax, skillfully brings us into the crushing tragedy of the murder of three civil rights workers.
Here is a poet who follows a path of vowels and consonants down to the ocean, who won’t let hope slip away with the king tides: It is the women who look up at the sky and see their children nestled in the moon. It is the women who hem the skirt of the ocean.
–Elizabeth Kirkpatrick-Vrenios, author of Special Delivery and Empty the Ocean with a Thimble

World Teachers’ Day: Celebrating The Teachers of the World
Tumblr media
Teachers play a vital, albeit underappreciated role in our lives. Behind every successful person are the efforts of hundreds of teachers, who have moulded them into a remarkable human being.
October 5th is annually celebrated as World Teachers’ Day to commemorate the signing of recommendations by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). This recommendation outlines standards relating to education personnel policy, recruitment, and initial training as well as the continuing education of teachers, their employment, and working conditions.
This day focuses on celebrating and improving the conditions of teachers around the world. So, to celebrate the teachers, we would like to include five stories of inspiring teachers:
Savitribai Phule
Tumblr media
Without Savitribai Phule, the feminist movement in India would have been held back by decades. Being illiterate, she was trained by her husband Mahatma Jyotiba Phule to be a teacher. She and her husband opened the first school for girls in India in 1848, and Savitribai Phule went on to become the first female teacher in India. However, her mission was not a path of roses, but roads laid with thorns and stones, as she endured constant societal abuse. However, the anger of the mob failed to deter her, as her legacy lives on in every female student in India.
2. Ranjitsinh Disale
Tumblr media
Ranjitsinh Disale first rose to prominence in 2020, after bagging the coveted ‘Global Teacher Prize’. Seeing the condition and low attendance rate of Zilla Parishad School in Paritewadi, Solapur, Maharashtra, Ranjitsinh went beyond what was expected and changed the school and its students. Ranjitsinh not only translated the textbooks into the mother tongues of students but also embedded QR codes to give students access to audio poems, video lectures, stories and assignments. His impact cannot be put into words, as teen marriages have been completely stopped in the village and the attendance rate of girls now sits at 100%. One of the girls even went on to graduate from a university, a dream which seemed impossible at one point.
3. Anne Sullivan
Tumblr media
Being born with trachoma, Anne Sullivan thought that she would never be able to read and write. Little did she know, that she would serve as an inspiration to not only the disabled community but also change the life of one of the most celebrated figures in modern human history. Enduring pain and humiliation, Anne Sullivan not only learned how to read and write but also excelled academically. She then went on to adopt an improvised teaching technique to help Helen Keller become the first deaf-blind person in the United States to obtain a degree from college.
4. Matiullah Wesa
Tumblr media
Matiullah Wesa recently made headlines on March 27, 2023, when he was arrested by the Taliban for his advocacy of women’s education. Activists from around the world spoke in his support, including the famous Hollywood actress, Angelina Jolie. In addition to being an activist, Matiullah is an educator, who runs an NGO called Pen Path, which with the help of 2,400 volunteers, helps to set up local classrooms, find teachers and distribute books and stationery. After the Taliban banned women’s education, Matiullah fearlessly protested the policy, leading to his arrest. Sadly, this remarkable man is still imprisoned.
5. Erin Gruwell
Tumblr media
Erin Gruwell is a founder of the Freedom Writers Foundation and created the Freedom Writer Methods, a progressive teaching philosophy and curricula designed to achieve excellence from all students. Erin gained popularity in 1998 when she led 150 students on the brink of dropping out to high school graduation. She achieved this by asking students to keep a journal, make movies of their lives, and relate the family feud in Romeo and Juliet to a gang war. She also encouraged her students to read books like The Diary of a Young Girl, Zlata’s Diary and Night. Students used to express themselves anonymously through journals and shared them with classmates. As a result, children who refused to speak with students belonging to different races became like a family. Her life was later adapted into a film called Freedom Writers, which gained critical acclaim.
Filaantro realizes the important role teachers play in the life of a child. Filaantro, along with its crowdfunding partner, Child Help Foundation has trained numerous teachers. So they can educate children better.
