The Mal and Audrey swap AU is so interesting, I have so, SO many questions about it. Does Mal know she's actually Maleficent's daughter? If not, how does she handle the revelation? How will everyone else handle it? Will she actually go along with her bio-mom's evil plan? How does Mal and everyone else, including the VKs, feel about and treat Audrey? Do they think Audrey is Maleficent's daughter? If so, does Audrey correct them? Even though Audrey knows she's not Maleficent's daughter, does she know she's Aurora's daughter? If not, how will she find out the truth? How is everyone going to react when they find our Audrey is Aurora's daughter? Will finding her real mom be what pushes Audrey to stop Maleficent's evil plan, or will it be something else? Is Mal gonna change her awful ways? If so, will she have a similar arc to canon Audrey (losing her social status to Audrey, becoming a villain, getting defeated and repenting) or will it be different? Sorry, I know that's a ton of questions, I just gotta know how all this plays out, especially how both Mal and Audrey will develop as characters and how the events of D2 and D3 will be affected, since Ben will still wind up with Mal despite the role swap

Woof, that is a lot of questions XD, but I don’t mind. I’ll go over some of the basics for you:

1.) Audrey knows she’s not Maleficent’s daughter because Maleficent told her so (she has more dignity than raising the child of her greatest enemies as her own). Audrey doesn’t know where she comes from, as far as she knows her birth parents are long gone and Maleficent ‘saved’ her from dying as a baby. She has no clue she’s actually Aurora and Phillip’s daughter. She doesn’t even know her full name, which is why she goes by Auds or A. However, she is very aware that Maleficent’s actual daughter is in Auradon somewhere, just not exactly where she is/who she was raised by.

2.) Mallory doesn’t know either. This is due to a very strong glamor spell Maleficent cast when the swap was made. It’s so strong that no one questions why Mal doesn’t look anything like her parents, and keeps her from wondering about it too much. She’s happy with her life and has no reason to question it. Her magic was explained away as a weird side-effect of Aurora’s time in the enchanted sleep.

3.) Audrey is basically an observer in D1’s main plot, a bit like a background character. On the Isle of the Lost she is a nobody and is treated as such. She’s a servant to Maleficent and bullied by the other VK’s. She takes orders without question, stays out of other people’s way, has no allies or friends of her own, and doesn’t interfere with Maleficent’s plans unless specifically told to do so.

When she gets sent to Auradon, for all intents and purposes she is Maleficent’s daughter (she would never say otherwise). She’s there to deliver Maleficent’s spellbook to Mallory, her one order, while the other VK’s are tasked with turning her evil. The story progresses similarly to canon, VK’s trying to get to the wand, spelling Ben with a cookie to try and fix his and Mal’s relationship, ect. ect. but Audrey is a passive observer to the entire thing, with her own little story on the side where she starts to make some friends (or rather, Jane and Lonnie start trying to be friends with her) and even has a romance with Mr. Chad Charming (I’m a Chaudrey shipper, sue me!)

4.) The glamor begins to wear off once Auds and Mal are in the same place for long enough, which is when people start to figure out something’s up. Queen Leah at Family Day really breaks things open, as her lack of time in the glamor made seeing Mal as an untrue heir easier to accept (she and Mal still don’t get along). Leah recognizes Audrey at family day, which spooks literally everyone and sends everything into confusion.

5.) I’m not spoiling endings or full realizations yet (mostly cause I haven’t decided what I want yet)

𝗔 𝗪𝗛𝗢𝗟𝗘 𝗕𝗨𝗡𝗖𝗛 𝗢𝗙 𝗗𝗘𝗦𝗖𝗘𝗡𝗗𝗔𝗡𝗧𝗦 𝗣𝗟𝗢𝗧 𝗕𝗨𝗡𝗡𝗜𝗘𝗦

Okay, so as I was talking to Evie about the other day, I was going through one of my old notebooks and found a whole extended universe of Descendants OCs I had planned from middle school. I obviously don’t plan on formally introducing or doing anything with all of these OCs, because there is a lot of them, but I still thought it would be fun to share them with you guys! They’re not all in their original versions from my notebook, because a few of them did require a little changing and revamping, but I still hope you guys enjoy these little ideas from twelve-year-old me’s brain.

Soha Pride, daughter of Simba and Nala, Carlos ship. Able to attend Auradon Prep thanks to a spell from Fairy Godmother that allows her entire family to shift between their lion and human forms. Very dedicated to her duties as a princess of Pride Rock, but sometimes feels overshadowed by her older sister Kiara because she’s the oldest and the heir. Doesn’t believe any of the stuff Audrey and Chad say about the VKs and makes it her mission to be friends with them. Formerly a Jay ship. I am going to be introducing her formally in a little bit, so look out for that!

Josie Sparrow, daughter of Jack Sparrow, Evie ship. Auradon kid because it could never be decided whether Jack was a villain or not, and now he sails all around the seas surrounding Auradon and the different kingdoms. Has the ability to visit the Isle in her dreams, and it’s later revealed that that’s because her mother is Calypso. A huge troublemaker and prankster who’s constantly in trouble with Fairy Godmother, and becomes quick besties with Mal because of it when the VKs first come to Auradon.

Jackson Kelly-Jacobs, son of Jack Kelly and David Jacobs, OC ship. Son of Jack and Davey because I am a Javid shipper for life. A dancer and gymnast who’s on the R.O.A.R. team, and used to be friends with Chad before he turned into a bully. Really flirty and charming like his dad Jack, but still a total sweetheart. He and Evie quickly develop a WLW/MLM friendship when the VKs come to Auradon, and he definitely punches Chad during the Family Day thing.

Steven Smee, son of Mr. Smee, OC ship (Jackson’s boyfriend). Comes to Auradon with the VKs even though he’s not friends with them after Ben lets his dad persuade him to invite the child of a sidekick along with the children of villains so the people of Auradon are a bit “more receptive”. A complete shy sweetheart who loves his dad and brothers and misses them terribly when he leaves (because Smee is actually a really good dad) and is the reason the twins get to come to Auradon in the third movie. Kind of sensitive because he got bullied a lot as a kid on the Isle, but still has an inner strength that not a lot of people expect.

Maile Montunui, daughter of Moana, Uma ship. President and pretty much only member of the Auradon Prep Sailing Club, which the Sea Three join after they come to Auradon in the alternate post-second movie story that I had in my head. Incredibly courageous and not afraid to speak her mind, but sometimes gets herself into trouble from being too confident. Frequently curses and insults people in Samoan. Bisexual disaster who falls in love with Uma instantly, even if it takes Uma a while to feel the same about her.

Haven Hearts, daughter of the Queen of Hearts, Harry ship. Member of the VKs who had a sort of Romeo and Juliet romance going on with Harry, but has to break it off when they leave to go to Auradon. She wants desperately to be good and break away from her mother’s reputation, and dedicates herself to being better once the VKs choose good at the coronation, which causes some tension between her and Harry when they meet again in the second movie. In the alternate post-second movie story after the Sea Three come to Auradon, though, they reconcile and get back together. She’s fierce and sarcastic by nature but not mean, and she shares Mal’s love for graffiti.

Cierra Chernabog, daughter of Chernabog, Ben ship. Outcast even on the Isle because her father is a demon, doesn’t come to Auradon until after the second movie because so many people were against bringing Chernabog’s kid to Auradon the first time. Super shy and doesn’t talk a whole lot, but incredibly smart and loving. Has a demon form that she isn’t able to access until leaving the Isle, but it’s big and terrifying and still kind of cool.

Celeste Frollo, daughter of Judge Frollo, Audrey ship. Claudette’s twin sister, very religious and God-fearing due to her father’s teaching, so she has a lot of Catholic guilt over liking girls (picture, like, Carrie White with no telekinesis and if she was a lesbian). Gets to go to Auradon after the second movie, when Audrey’s slowly starting to reform herself and be more accepting of villain kids (we’re pretending the third movie doesn’t happen, I guess), and at the same time my girl slowly starts to overcome her guilt and they fall in love!

And there are even more, but I’m gonna stop there (😅). Hope you guys enjoyed this little look into my crazy little middle schooler brain!!

How do you feel about Doug from all the Descendants movies and which Descendants kid you tried to care about but don’t? From books and movies.

I’ve talked about Dough in my post about all the descendants boys, but to sum it up I actually really like him for what he is in the story. On his own, he’s a dork with some self-awareness for comedic purposes (that stalking joke in the first movie was gold imo he just admits it no hesitation. Honestly? Slay) and in terms of character arc he’s a little… empty. But that’s fine, because he isn’t a central character. He isn’t the protagonist or the antagonist, he’s a love interest for a deuteragonist and he serves that purpose beautifully. He doesn’t grate on me like Chad does with his asshole cowardly attitude, Dough is just a sweetie who doesn’t pretend to be a perfect angel and I appreciate that. His character is what it needs to be with Evie’s personal journey of finding who she wants to be. She was told her whole life her worth was only in her beauty, because it would attract a prince. Dough sees her for more than a pretty face, and he may not have royal blood but he’s the prince Evie needed to make her happy. They’re cute, I like them, their story is predictable but it’s Disney so of course it is and also it was handled well. It’s not complicated, it’s just two dorks falling in love.

I almost said I tried to care about Mal and failed but then realized I do care. I care a lot. I tried to like her and failed. So I guess the next best answer is Jane. I have a lot to say about her but she’s holding up my answer to a different ask because it’s honestly a slog to talk about her. There’s no particular reason I just… don’t care. I don’t care. I wanna like her because it’s a story about a girl coming out of her shell and finding love but they squeezed the “bullied becomes the bully” trope in there which is so common it’s boring. On top of that her character arc kinda happens in the background. She gets new hair, becomes a bitch, gets hair taken away and does something stupid for the sake of a twist reveal during the climax of the movie. And then Mal takes the wand. Okay. I don’t care. Mal could have grabbed the wand herself and all it would have done for me is take away the two seconds in which I went “oh. Okay. Why?” In general her presence in the story is pretty non-existent. She seems to be there for shocking moments during the climax and nothing else because the only significant thing she did in the second movie is show that glass thing for Mal that Ben ordered. In the third movie it seemed like she was gonna be an actual main character again when she evaded the sleeping spell but no. All that happened was her and Carlos having a cute moment together. Their romance is cute but that just doesn’t do it for me. Carlos is one of my favorite characters and that’s the only reason I can feel anything for Jane, but unlike Dough she’s actually supposed to be a main character. And I don’t care. Looking at her as her own character, I genuinely wanted to like her. I really tried. And I failed.

I've found that while thinking about how to answer this a lot of my opinions on the AKs may seem negative but I think it's because the Vks were the main characters so they didn't give them any thought to be fleshed out. One word I've thought about multiple characters is shallow and I'm realizing it was just the poor writing because they'll justify, humanize and explain horrible actions the Vks did but made the Aks all completely shallow so that's something to keep in mind.

Chad- I don't actually dislike Chad with a burning passion or anything. He was a handsome teenage boy who knew it and used it to his advantage and I don't see him as a villain within in the whole him and Evie thing, her intentions weren't pure either yet, he takes the brute. Then in D2 and 3 I just kind of felt sorry for him because he was used as comedic relief with no real background anymore.

Doug- Overly hated in my opinion, he was a simple guy, people do way too much about him being quote on quote stalker. I don't care about him and I think he's boring but overall he's the character that made me realize that Aks are held to this unreachable standard while Vks are given grace for everything in the fandom. I've seen people call him abusive because he pretended not to wake up after Evie kissed him it's ridiculous.

Jane- Shallow and insecure. My unpopular opinion about her stands, she got off easy compared to Audrey and would've ditched any of her friends for the winning team. In hindsight that's not the worst thing an insecure teenage girl can do, of course she wants to be popular. My problem was Audrey was villainized and isolated and blamed for actions Jane took part in and Jane pretty much felt no remorse on seeing her old friend fade.

Lonnie- Same thing shallow and wished they didn't make her do certain things. She was happy and supportive seeing Audrey get publicly dumped just because Mal fixed her bob. Then when Uma did the same thing ditched Ben who she knew way longer than Mal in favor of Mal just because he brought another girl after Mal broke up with him. Her D2 plot was stupid, she was way more pissed about a school sport than her friend being kidnapped.

Audrey- My second favorite character out of the whole series, she was treated poorly and deserved better. While saying that I can acknowledge all of her wrong doings and how the plot could've been different had she taken a different path in D3 than trying to destroy Auradon. But she was never a villain, she never bullied the Vks and she did her job like she was supposed to and got her life ruined and was kicked while she was down by her own family. I wish she was the main character and we got to see a good story play out for her after being mistreated so.

Ben- my ultimate favorite Descendants character. I like Ben because he's everything I'm not basically. He annoys me as a figure of authority because his kind nature quickly becomes a weakness and makes him look like he has no backbone but he's Ben so I can forgive him. He had potential to be a good King but ultimately he was not a good King to me looking back. His willingness to forgive others, think of others was commendable and he made his mistakes but ultimately when I see Ben I see a respectable person but not king. He would be a friend to rival all others but if anybody advocated for his King status to be postponed or removed I'd be the first to agree.

Story:

Backstory: Zachary, also known as Zach, is the son of Jack Sparrow, his mother sadly died in childbirth so Jack doesn’t know who’s going to take care of his son knowing that if he take his son with him will be dangerous, so he ask his old friend Belle and his husband Adam also know as the Beast, to take care of his son while going out on adventure, he, of course, will visit once in a while. As he grows up at the age 7 he develop his superpower from his mother side of the family, his father Jack told him about his mother and her family about their powers and how they are not magic and involves more on the genetic side of the family. When he was at the age of 10, he has been excel on his P.E. class including his fencing thanks to both of his speed and agility, he even able to beat the adult even their strongest one, when Adam, Belle, and the current captain of the royal guard learn this, they decided that Zach not only will be the next captain of the royal guard, he will also be Ben personal bodyguard, and Zach has been training since then and became the vice-captain of the royal guard. Years went by as Zach attend Auradon Prep School and became the captain of the fencing team for R.O.A.R. When weeks before Ben coronation, Ben and Zach are having a conversation about the VK’s at the Isle, Ben thinks that the villian kids deserve a second chance and Zach agrees with him and made a list of villains kids that he was able to made during his stays on the Isle for a day. When Ben look at the list of vks he decided chose Jay the son of Jafar, Carlos the son of Cruella DeVil, Evie the daughter of the Evil Queen, and Mal the daughter of Maleficent. When Ben already pick his chosen vks, he wants Zach to chose a vks as well since he is his brother figure and his best friend, who always by his side and protect him, so Zach look at the list and see a certain name that he’s interesting “Harry Hook” if Zach remember he is the son of Captain James Hook interested on this pirate vk he pick him as his chosen, as well, from what he learns during his time at the Isle all of the chosen vks are in the gang so it would be a good idea for having someone they know and comfortable. Things went the same with Harry who joins them in Auradon, when they tried to steal the magic wand one of the items that Zach stole the moonstone necklace started to glow as if it’s responding to someone, and that someone is Harry Hook, who is part werewolf thanks to his mother, who is not only a former Alpha in her pack but also Zach auntie which means that Harry is his long-lost cousin. When the Core Five failed the attempts to steal the wand, the event went the same when FG suggest that Jay and Carlos to spent their energies on tourney while Harry spent his on the fencing team as well on the dancing club seeing that Harry likes to dance from time to time, after tourneys is done it was time for fencing practice, which Harry is pretty excited about it. Before practice started Zach made an announcement that since he is going to be officially become the captain of the royal guards during Ben coronations that means the position of the vice-captain is open, so he decided that the day after the tournament for the tourney are over there will be challenges for the fencing team so who could be the next vice-captain. The event is still the same in the canon when Mal asked Ben if they could be in the front seat on coronation but can’t ‘cause only him, Audrey, his parents, and the next captain and vice-captain of the royal guards, so when the Core Five learns this Mal decided to create a love potion to make Ben fell in love with her and have Harry to train for the challenges knowing that Mal has faith on Harry to win the spot. The rest is still the same after the tournaments, and now is the challenges the position of for the next vice-captain, in the end, Harry was able to won thanks to his werewolf ability without him knowing that he’s using it, but during that time is whene the necklace glow brightly at Harry when he using his power, of course, Zach notice this but decide to kept this to himself for now and will tell Harry his heritage after the celebration, so for now, he joins with the others and congratulate his cousin for winning. During Ben and Mal dating, Zach invite Harry on dance practice on his favorite place to dance where no one could hear or sees them. After having a little fun on their dance battle, Zach told Harry about his power and heritage, and gives him the moonstone necklace, as the necklace reacts to him and suddenly he feels all of his senses are in a whole different levels, and his canine teeth grew longer and sharper, proving that Harry is a werewolf. When Harry came back to his dorm and tell his fellow vk friends about this they couldn’t believe this and thought that his power could be useful when they’re going to steal the wand even though his full power could only work on the full moon his enchanted sense and strength could still be useful. The rest of the event are still the same in the canon in Descendants 1, as well in Descendants 2 & 3, well, except that in the final battle against Uma and Audrey that Harry joins the fight with Mal with his werewolf form, and after Descendants 2, Zach found Uma during his stroll on the beach when she see her and even though after what she did, he thought about her action and he understand her why she did it because not only her and the Wharf Rats but the entire kids on the isle wants to be free from the well as well, including the villains that wants to redeem for their actions and wants the second chances as well, so he decide to helps her hiding from the people of Auradon and secretly gives her food that he was able to steal from the kitchen and the cafeteria without everyone notice and during their with each other develop a feeling and fell in love after Descendants 3.

Current Life: He and Harry continue their life in Auradon as captain and vice-captain of the royal guards, and Zach help Harry his new found werewolf packs that he discover after the events of Audrey, and learn that werewolf are not the only monster, there is also zombies, alien, vampire, and etc, and like the children of Isle they want to help all the monsters to live peacefully not just in Auradon but the entire kingdoms as well.

And not only that he is also part werewolf thanks to his mother side the only reason he wasn’t able to transform because of the barrier and he needs a moonstone necklace (like the one in ZOMBIES), as for who replacing Harry as Uma’s First Mate will be David Jones the son of Davy Jones.

This is gotta be the longest story that I write, I hope you all like the story ‘cause again, I suck at making a plot, so I let you guys tried to imagining it.

- Preppie Headcanons -

Bif is on a high dosage of Zoloft, as he suffers from severe depression due to all the childhood bullying and bullshit Justin puts him through.

Derby and Pinky have decided to be each other’s cover-ups.

Gord and Vance are in a flirtationship.

Gary used to be a prep. He was kicked out after an argument that ended in Derby having a broken nose.

Parker and Bif are probably the nicest preppies you’ll meet.

Gord and Pinky are the mean bisexual and even meaner lesbian duo.

Pinky is a ballerina. She’s a very good dancer.

Bif can sorta figure skate, but he’s also pretty clumsy.

Chad, Bryce, Tad, and Justin often play croquet together.

Bryce participates in gymnastics.

Every time he does a flip it gives Chad a heart attack.

Parker adores his little sister, and often takes her out shopping and to have lunch together.

Bif isn’t actually inbred he just lies about it to feel normal in his clique.

Gord was actually giving Lola presents from Pinky to cover for her.

Derby loves to be picked up by Bif and carried like a bride.

In some way Derby is related to the British royal family. Like a Paris Hilton situation.

Derby was also called Paris Hilton and he blushed so bright cause he takes that as a HUGE compliment.

Bif is the one who tends to the upstairs greenhouse.

He was distraught when the big ass flytrap thing was killed.

Called his stepmom and they both sobbed over it.

Gord is pissed Trent is the head choir boy and he isn’t.

The only hot thing about Justin is how defined his forearms are.

Tad has sickle cell anemia.

He gotten called an anemic loser MANY times.

Mostly by Justin but he’s one to talk cause he has hemophilia.

Audrey: Cheerleader who is mean to all the girls but really it’s because she has really, really bad self-esteem. Everyone’s kinda afraid of her except like that one person she’s actually opened up to, who understands. Needs therapy lmao. Is probably so closeted she doesn’t even realize she’s gay herself. Is a bully on the outside but is really a depressed, anxious, gay marshmallow on the inside. 💕

Ben: Perfectionist who cares WAY too much about grades. Cares a lot about everyone but is horrible at expressing that. Really good morals but is also kinda naive. Constantly trying to impress people. Really good at giving advice but sometimes he takes himself too seriously and it’s annoying. He’d probably be one of the kids who floats around friend groups and doesn’t realize he’s really popular. Kind of spoiled but also really sweet. Doesn’t buy into the whole tough-guy culture, is really open about his emotions.

Chad: The worst fucking person ever. Bragging about everything, even to Mal who doesn’t give a shit about how he “got a thousand followers” or how he “scored five goals”. Won’t shut up EVER.Doesn’t actually love himself but is just a huge narcissist. Basically the same guy he is in the movies. His name is literally Chad like why. I feel like Cinderella would have raised a nicer kid. Maybe she was dumb and let Prince Charming do most of the parenting because SHEESH he is bad. They need to make like an Isle of the Lost for shitty men like Chad. Isle of the Chads. Anyway in real life he’d probably be one of those football players who only plays the game because it makes him “manly” or whatever and wears his jersey to school every day. He probably drycleans the jersey every night too lmao with his like fancy at-home dry cleaning machine his dad bought him for his birthday. He probably uploads videos of himself doing TikTok dances where he thinks he looks really cool but really looks like a vain idiot. He probably makes really ignorant and offensive jokes and actually thinks they’re funny even though no one laughs.

Jane: Literally the sweetest person ever but is a huge people pleaser. Teacher’s pet but really because she respects teachers more than other people and gets really mad when people disrespect teachers because she knows how under-appreciated they are. Couldn’t give two shits about the whole high school social hierarchy thing, but probably because she got really wrapped up in it in middle school. Eats lunch alone because she finds it more fun than eating with all the idiots at this school. Probably has a cat. Actually loves the learning part of school and gets good grades (but doesn’t brag about it lmao). Hates PE with a burning passion and refuses to put effort into that class, but pours her heart and soul into her other classes.

Audrey's character gets explored mainly how she overseen by her grandma a lot generational trauma and how it's not helping Audrey grow as a person

Ben is no longer a trophy husband. He has equal say in his relationship and active in the plot. Also Belle and Beast aren't abusive

Chad is not the Jerk™ that everyone hates but someone who genuinely wants to be Prince Charming/Hero but has very serious flaws to overcome. He gets this chance rescuing an unexpected damsel in distress Dizzy

Auradon is in its own dimension; basically alternate history earth

The isle of the lost is actually not where Villains live; it's a place where anyone can go to of they are feeling lost in life. They can only leave if they chose to overcome a personal challenge

The Sea3 and their crew gets more development plus Prince Hans is there cuz ✨redemption✨

Evie, Carlos and Jay all possess magic abilities; Carlos the power to talk to animals, Jay the power of invisibility and Evie transfiguration magic. Also they have their own stories

Hades and Maleficent is NOT canon that's just a crackship that gone horribly wrong. Hades is instead with an OC inspired by Persephone (not the actual goddess tho)

None of the parents arr abusive though they do have toxic traits stemming from generational trauma (we don't want our families hurt by villains who have no qualms about hurting children)

The new Lead is my oc Paige, a normal girl with no established disney connections. She comes from Our World as an outsider would provide a unique view and tbh less risk of turning into a mary sue (like what happened with Mal)

The AKs aren't props they get established personalities and don't exist to be bullies to the VKs

A clear magic system: Fairy Godmother is strong but not as strong as the literal greek gods; Ariel and Melody can only turn into mermaids through Triton; the kids can use magic but not strong spells plus the magical items are kept under strict lock

Lonnie gets a name change and actual Chinese motifs then "throw in everything that looks Chinese!"

More disney characters like the actual characters not just extras in ugly outfits

It is an international school so no weird MURICA FUCK YEAH undertones (like c'mon AMERICAN FOOTBALL 💀 shouldn't they be playing soccer instead)

Instead of racism allegories it is more of Class disparities; as well as the idea of redemption and that community is better than exile/jail

Ben and Paige don't get married; they're still teens so they have a lot to explore

The main couples are: Ben&Paige, Chad/Audrey, Huma, Jane x Doug, Jay x OC, Carlos x OC and Evie x OC; plus oc x canon and other canon x canon

And that's just scratching the surface. :]

What do you think of Chad and the way how Audrey treats him as well as the whole Descendants team and fandom?

I read somewhere that Chad is a character explicitly made to be jerk and i completely agree. His whole arc revolves around the bullying and running after Audrey

They completely ruined his character after the first movie. In d1 we see him as charming, arrogant, sneaky, smart, lazy and manipulative. He’s a popular guy, jock, rich, spoiled, used to girls running after him and using it to his advantage. He had so much potential, could’ve been interesting to watch but the writers turned him into a joke.

In d2 he’s reduced to nothing more than Audrey’s stupid fanboy. He has no role other than being a comic relief. There’s a glimpse of something when he finds out Ben’s been kidnapped. “But if something were to happen, who do you think would be in line to be king?” I NEED MORE OF THAT. That could’ve been his main arc, he could’ve teamed up with Audrey, not because he’s a spineless lapdog but because he’s a sneaky little shit who wants to become king of Auradon.

Audrey treats him as nothing but her rebound and a lapdog, which, in a way, he is. Audrey is just as arrogant as him so it’s not really surprising. Perhaps it’s karma and Audrey treats Chad the way he treated other girls around Auradon prep...

There is no denying that Chad is a jerk and a bully the fandom perceives him as, I just wish writers and us both acknowledged him as a smart manipulator he is, instead of just an idiot and Audrey’s minion.

Who's the first AK that Mina befriends and why? Which AK is the last for Mina to warm up to, and why? And which AKs will she never be friends with?

The first is Chelsea. Mina is mildly impressed that she volunteered to room with a VK, after getting a wary reception from some other AKs. Chelsea confesses that she didn't get on with her previous roommate, so it didn’t seem like that a hard of a decision, and they talk about being disabled and bullied and left behind and arbitrary AK social norms and hey, Chelsea’s funny, and actually gets Mina’s sharp sense of humour, and with healthy plants and wildlife being so alien to her Mina is more than happy to hear all her swamp facts and holy shit, she can do magic, that’s badass and -

oh. They’re friends. Wow. It happens a lot more naturally than either of them anticipated. They’re very sweet together. I love them. They have sleepovers at each other’s houses in the school holidays, because even by the first one they’re so used to and comfortable sharing a bedroom. Chelsea loves playing with the Foxworth pets. She visits the shelter and helps Mina sometimes, and Mina visits New Orleans and the swamp to watch Chelsea learn magic.

I think she'd get along pretty well with most canon AKs. They’re all generally good people, except Chad and to an extent, mostly formerly Audrey. Chad’s always come across as worse to Audrey than me, so his character growth would be slower and more begrudging and he plays a minor antagonist to Mina and other VKs; he’s too afraid of his parents, Ben and Mal making him face more serious consequences for his actions than the discipline he’s already got to try anything really bad, though. He is fundamentally a coward whose bark is much worse than his bite. And everyone can see that. He’s too pathetic, unintelligent and uncreative to be an effective bully. A minority of other AKs who share his malice aren’t, however, and not all of them change their ways. There are many AKs that Mina just never clicks with or warms up to because that’s how people work, with no such malice or judgment necessary.

It takes her and Terry surprisingly long to become proper friends. That’s why even after the time skip, I haven’t described them as friends in their bios. The reason is that I specifically created him to be Mina’s foil. Their personalities and roles are as different as can be, and she has trust issues and he’s bad at compromise, among other traits and attitudes that, by design, rub each other the wrong way. They both regret how awkward this is for Chelsea and want to be friends. But they just don’t get each other. Resolving this impasse is the result of their character development, particularly Terry’s, who’s more invested in befriending Mina. It requires him to slow down, acknowledge his flaws, listen to and learn from someone else’s perspective and put effort into building something despite knowing that it won’t be perfect. Mina is isn’t perfect, and neither is he. Neither is their friendship. But it’s still good. Yeah. Still good.

The last AK Mina warms up to is Audrey. Audrey has spent the six months since the movie having a big arc of unlearning her prejudices and callous, competitive, selfish worldview, which has involved coming to be on good terms with Mal, glad and grateful that she makes her best friend happy, and quite a messy breakup with Chad due to her no longer respecting him being a dick or liking that he enables and encourages her being a bitch. He swings between being bitter and desperate for her to take him back. She’s just tired of him. By Cotillion, her family is fracturing too: Leah refuses to change her views on VK no matter how unpopular they get or how much the whole rest of her family disagrees with her, and Aurora finally demands that if she can’t be trusted to look after all her citizens, she has to abdicate the throne. Phillip backs her up. In Audrey’s mind, Leah is her beloved, doting grandmother who’s always been there for her (a little critical and controlling, maybe, but all in the name of helping Audrey be everything she needs to be, right? There’s totally no toxicity in that dynamic that she also needs to unpack now, right? Please?) But… though it breaks her heart, she agrees with her parents. Leah is not taking any of this well. So Audrey’s under a lot of stress at the moment. Mina observes this from the sidelines and realizes that Audrey is not a shallow prissy princess/popular girl stereotype, but a Person with Feelings. Feelings about relatable stuff like a family member being awful. Now that, a VK can’t help but sympathize with. They have their first really open and honest conversation after that when Mina steps in to offer the appreciated sentiment of ‘you’re not alone and you’ll get through this, keep going’ and the less appreciated promise to sic her dogs on her grandma if she wants. Then Audrey ends up turning to the Core Four and Uma’s crew for empathy and experienced help processing and healing from Leah’s years of emotional abuse and thus forges a much stronger bond with all of them. Leah is forced to give up the throne, don’t worry.

It actually takes Mina longer to officially forgive Mal than to enter Audrey’s good books. She really does hold a grudge!

Audrey Rose

Notes:

Princess Audrey is a secondary antagonist and supporting character in the movie Descendants, the recurring secondary antagonist of Descendants: Wicked World and the main antagonist of Descendants 3, played by Sarah Jeffery. It's my head-canon that she is the middle child and only daughter of Princess Aurora and Prince Phillip.

Audrey is the daughter of Aurora and Prince Phillip from Disney's Sleeping Beauty. Naturally royal and extremely confident, she's the ex-girlfriend of Prince Ben and the cheerleading captain at Auradon Prep with a knack for fashion. She is also known to have been the most popular princess in school before Mal, Evie, Carlos, and Jay arrived. She's also best friends with Lonnie and Jane.

When the children of the villains come to Auradon Prep, Audrey was the least accepting of the four, and especially suspicious of Mal, due to both the fact that Mal's mother, Maleficent, is Audrey's mother, Sleeping Beauty's, enemy, and Ben's attraction to Mal. At the Tourney game, Audrey was completely in dismay to hear that Ben has just dumped her for Mal and then uses Chad Charming to make Ben jealous. This fails.

On Family Day, Audrey's grandmother, Queen Leah, finds out that Maleficent's daughter has arrived in Auradon and is especially dismayed due to the haunting memories, with Chad adding to the scorn. The tension turns violent until Evie sprays him with a sleeping potion. Audrey then taunts Mal with Jane, prompting Mal to undo the magic she had previously performed on Jane to make her hair long and beautiful, to scare away her bullies. When Mal threatens to ruin Audrey's hair with her spellbook, Audrey runs away.

On Ben's coronation, Audrey stands on the sidelines and witnesses Mal convincing her friends to choose the side of good instead of evil and the defeat of her mother, Maleficent. She and Mal then bow to each other out of respect, with their parents' history finally behind their shoulders. She then participates in the after-party, singing "Set It Off" with her friends and dancing with Jay.

Audrey returns in the animated short series Descendants: Wicked World, voiced by Sarah Jeffery who also portrayed her in the live-action film.

Unlike in the film series, she stays in Auradon following the events of Ben's coronation and is friends with Mal and Evie, even though their antics can sometimes get on her nerves. In addition, she is also jealous of how much attention the Villain Kids are getting.

Throughout the series, she has grown accustomed to being prone to magical mishaps, such as getting hit by exploding cupcakes or having her hair look awful by a failed magic makeover. She also is shown to be rule-abiding to a fault, refusing to partake in thievery and vandalism when dared. While being friends with the VKs, she ultimately begins to suspect them when a number of strange occurrences happened that all seem to point to the VKs, being one of the first to point fingers at them and claim they were up to something (alongside with Ally, Jane, and Jordan). However, she was later proven wrong as CJ revealed that she was the one who ruined everything and duped her, along with everyone else.

Though she becomes mistrustful of Mal in the second season due to her jewel being cursed and a new VK named Zevon, who crashed the Jewel-bile and stolen all of the VK's jewels while holding Jafar's Snake Staff, she eventually came to realize the context behind Mal's actions and openly apologizes to her, even revealing that she dedicated the Jewel-bile and her musical number to the VKs.

Although Audrey doesn't appear in Descendants 2, she is mentioned various times. According to Jane, it's revealed that Audrey went on a spa vacation with Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather. She is also mentioned when Chad Charming talks about who would like the name "King Chad," making him cry and get upset about the fact that she broke up with him. Later on, she calls Chad to tell him that she is waiting for him at Sherwood Forest to fix her broken-down carriage. It is revealed in Descendants 3, that Audrey is in summer school, implying that she left in the middle of the school year without finishing that year's education.

When Ben proposes to Mal before the new VKs arrive, both her and her grandmother, Queen Leah, are not happy with the news or their future queen. After being scolded by her Grandmother, Audrey looks through old memories of her and Ben before Mal came. After realizing that she will never be queen, and earning her grandmother's scorn, she goes to the Museum of Cultural History to destroy the crown, but then she gets beckoned by Maleficent's Scepter, and gets lured in a way, and falls to the darkness. She then decides to get revenge at Mal, and she transports herself to Evie's Cottage and confronts Mal about how everything was perfect until she arrived. As Mal tries to talk to her, Audrey vengefully turns her into an old hag and leaves.

She then proceeds to attend Jane's birthday party and questions their loyalty to Mal despite all the drama that came with the VKs. Chad volunteers his services, saving himself for the time being, before she proceeds to put everyone at Jane's birthday party to sleep. Jane escapes the sleeping spell by staying under The Enchanted Lake. Audrey then goes to Ben and tries to win him over again but it doesn't work and she turns him into a beast in anger. Claiming sleep is too good for Auradon, she turns people into stone. Audrey takes Chad to Fairy Cottage where she expresses her fury at Mal's ability to break her spell and Uma's presence in Auradon. After having a mild fit of rage and unsettling Chad, Audrey decides to toy with the VKs. She controls the suits of armor in the castle to defeat Mal, Evie, Jay, Carlos, Uma, Harry, and Gil, but they defeated the suits of armor together, much to her anger.

Having been watching the VKs, she angrily traps Chad in a closet after ignoring his pleas to reason with her. She traps the VKs inside Evie's Cottage until Uma and Mal break the spell using the ember and Ursula's Necklace, to her anger once more. The VKs search for her but she has mysteriously left the cottage and leaving Chad trapped inside. Audrey turns Ben, Evie, Jay, and Carlos into stone, which she had also done to Fairy Godmother, and captures Celia Facilier at the top of the school. She fights Mal, who has turned into her dragon form, with Maleficent's scepter, but Mal fights back with Hades' Ember, which had been powered by Uma. Audrey struggles against Mal and is ultimately defeated, knocking her unconscious and waking everyone up, and freeing those who had been turned into stone.

With the help of Hades, Mal's father, Audrey is awakened from her deep sleep. Freed from the corrupting influence Maleficent's scepter gave her, Audrey tearfully asks if it was all just a bad dream and apologizes to Mal and Ben for everything, who apologizes to her back, while Leah apologizes to Mal. Having turned good once again, Audrey celebrates as Mal takes down the Isle's barrier and creates a bridge from it to Auradon, singing and dancing with Chad, and then dances with Harry.

Audrey is an extremely vain girl who tends to over-worry and believes herself to be the most beautiful girl in school. When Mal gave other girls makeovers, she was upset, not because she believed Mal was up to something but because she didn't want anyone to rival her in appearance.

She was immediately uncomfortable with the idea of VKs coming, often criticizing them in private and in front of them. She believes that they're evil due to their parents' villainous acts without giving them a chance. She not only acts mean to the VKs, but to a few others as well, being very demanding and demeaning such as laughing at Jane over her ugly hair and preferring to be the center of attention. She hates looking imperfect and enjoys competition and taking selfies.

Even after accepting the VKs, she remained jealous of them because they were getting all the attention she's used to getting and having trouble trying to figure them out. She even disliked it when Evie won being Q.N.L.B. instead of herself and became suspicious of them when CJ committed a series of crimes around Auradon. She's quick to frame Mal for it, even blaming her when Ben started going missing.

Despite this, she does show a strong sense of morality, as she refused to steal on the Isle of the Lost in Episode 5 and even offered to help pay for a cup that Ben broke to prove the two could be bad, worriedly asking if they were going to go to jail. In addition, she does care about her friends, even though she comes off as rude. In most cases though, she is uptight and no-nonsense, having little patience for others' antics. This is taken further when she planned the Jewel-bile for the 5 VKs as a gift to their friendship and felt guilty for being unfair to Mal out over a misunderstanding.

Despite her vanity, Audrey has a great deal of empathy lying under the surface. After being released from the hold Maleficent's staff had on her and being awakened from her enchanted sleep by Hades, she was truly horrified by what she had done while under the influence of the staff, sincerely apologizing to Mal and Ben for everything she did to them.
