more rambling about a s5 au: lindsey comes back for a redemption arc to act as legal counsel for angel's team. this ostensibly gives gunn a reason to opt out of the lawyer operation, but he does it anyway because he doesn't trust lindsey not to fuck them over.

lindsey acts as a moral foil to gunn, who comes to believe his necessary contribution to the team (since he's no longer their only lawyer) is being the defender of the group's principles while working at w&h. they frequently butt heads while working on a case, but eventually develop a begrudging respect of each other's respective strengths.

this hostile-to-friendly-rivalry arc is tested when it comes out that w&h was responsible for some demon problem that's been plaguing gunn's home community. gunn has, unbeknownst to himself, been somehow contributing to it while working at w&h; lindsey knowingly contributed to it when he was last working there as a lawyer. lindsey is forced to confront who he was, while gunn is forced to confront who he’s becoming.

since he was involved in the project, lindsey uses his insider knowledge to help come up with a plan to fix the problem. they execute it, something goes wrong, and lindsey risks his life to ensure the plan goes off successfully. he expects congratulations and a pat on the back from gunn, but gunn isn't interested in absolving lindsey's sins (or his own), and their warming relationship freezes over.

at some point, gunn lets himself get taken by the senior partners in an effort to deal with his guilt over various lapses in judgment/perceived moral failures. during their rescue mission to the holding dimension, lindsey stays behind in gunn's place so he can escape, assuring gunn that he's the lawyer the team needs right now. their mutual arcs culminate in lindsey rejecting the idea that redemption is done for recognition, and gunn rejecting the idea that guilt/self-punishment is inherently redemptive.

eventually after being busted out by illyria, lindsey is there to empathize with gunn about losing parts of yourself (body, mind, and/or soul) to w&h, relationships to power when you've grown up without it, and what it means to live with the consequences of your actions. both of them reflect on the nature of redemption/forgiveness/intent as they grapple with how to own up to an appropriate share of the blame.

i kept thinking about 1980s trad goth cesare and who he would be trying to capture and then i made an oc. lindsey tricks people with fake products, news and advice and aims to become famous worldwide to influence the masses. like his themed truck, the only way cesare fits in in the 80's is by blending in with the punk crowd, convincing them to help him take down 'Big Media Propaganda' or whatever. he defeats lindsey by getting his show cancelled and knocking him into the underworld through a trashcan. classic deadbeat-tv-star-thrown-into-alley-and-he's-got-a-5-o-clock-shadow style you know what im talking about???

The James Somerton thing really is showing the sexism that still exists in the online essayist space in that, as far as I can tell while people are rightfully PISSED at Somerton they seem to have taken Hbomberguy's warning to not harass people to heart (now yes this is helped that Somerton basically left the internet) meanwhile I can think of NUMEROUS QUEER WOMEN in the online essayist space who did things far less severe than Somerton (maybe said something bad a while ago or associated with someone who turned out to not be a good person as opposed to plagiarism and what can be considered financial fraud!! ) and were either chased off/nearly chased off their platform and repeatedly harassed, threatened and suicide baited.

Theories for what we’re getting in S3 based off of nothing but my own intuition and my fanfic brain:

Umbrella!Ben’s death scene.

AU Eudora Patch for at least one scene interacting with Diego.

Klaus is not going to accept that Sparrow!Ben and Umbrella!Ben are different people...maybe even betraying his family toward the end of the season because of his denial?

Hella Allison + Patrick and Claire content. Either flashbacks of A+P’s relationship before, during and after things got bad – as well as family sequences with Claire – or “present day” content of Allison searching out to find them.

Either way, I am preparing for it to be choc full of ✨emotional trauma✨

Five being completely over it (officially!!) He is done with apocalypses, done with trying to save the world, done I say!! He’s going full on nihilist and is just going to sunbathe as the world burns.

Lila Pitts arriving in the Sparrow!AU before the Hargreeves family and having her own agenda for reasons that will be revealed halfway through the season!

It’s a baby. She and Diego had sex once so, according to the rules of TV, she must now be with child.

Let it be known this is my least favorite trope in all of television but...now that I’ve thought about it I can’t unthink it.

Because what if then Reggie is secretly having the Sparrows go after the child because it’s the first child to two extraordinary individuals and the pure chaos it could wreak upon this earth–! So then everything Lila is doing she’s doing to protect her child, choosing to be the type of mother the Handler never could be for her! Ending the cycle of abuse through self-sacrifice [personal sacrifice, not the death kind] and love–!

More of Reggie’s alien backstory.

Sparrowfied Pogo and Grace.

Luther falling in love with one of the Sparrow gals.

Viktor’s transition to be fully made within the first two episodes.

Javon Walton’s character is going to be related (either familially or thematically) back to Harlan.
