can't get a post-ragnarok semi-crack fic idea outta my head like--
The serious bit: Atreus leaves to fulfill/make his destiny, find the giants and explore new worlds...but he keeps coming back for visits, of course! And every time he does, there's something changed. Kratos, Freya and Mimir have beaten the berserkers and cleaned up the remains of Asgard. they've beaten Gna. Kratos is as calm as ever, but his father has a new sense of purpose Atreus can't quite reconcile or put his finger on.
Kratos has begun to be renowned in the Norse world. the true all-father, the man who lead the united forces of ragnarok to defeat the scheming odin. the god who spared when he could have smote. the god who looks after sons and daughters and wives and husbands, who stays the hand that would harm the wounded for the sake of harming them. people begin to build alters to the god of war, who knows mercy as well as he knows violence. they leave offerings. they pray in his name. they look for his guidance before they look for his wrath.
Atreus is so, so proud of his father. Kratos tells him there are ways to live on after death, even--or especially--for a god. To make memories and impart lessons that those who outlive you look back on fondly is to be immortal in the one way that truly matters.
the funny bit: Atreus also realizes that his father is a god-magnet. no matter how far he travels, word of the ghost of Sparta precedes him. now, though, there's talk of the new god of war in the Norse lands, who is making a big splash. the remains of Greece have been rebuilding and, hearing the tales of this new god, have surprisingly set out to treat with the norsemen who follow a god so strangely familiar to their own. even gods from lands to the far east and west know of Kratos. now, though, there is a mix of old fear and new awe when Atreus reveals their relation to other gods. they...kinda want to meet this god.
cue Atreus leaving different lands to visit home only to find more and more gods taking tea with Freya in his father's newly grown garden, speaking with Mimir about philosophy in his father's warm, fire lit kitchen, watching on the sidelines as Kratos wields his ax to...just chop firewood. these gods are invading their home, taking up space and his father's precious time! they vie for his attention like lovesick puppies, trying to gain the wisdom--and perhaps...favor?--of Kratos. This, of course, is unacceptable. Nobody but Atreus seems to think so, though...
TLDR: Kratos is a god-magnet post-ragnarok, visiting gods are smitten, and Atreus must protect his father's honor!

Thinking about Faye as a subversion of the ‘fridging’ trope.
Usually, in a story like this (masculine man loses his wife, motivating him to go on an adventure), the story is usually invariably sexist. The wife’s death is violent, but once the man has started going on an adventure, proving his heroism, she’s basically never mentioned again. She’s a brief plot device, forgotten after the start except for a few dull flashbacks. We never learn more about her as a person. She existed to date a man and then die. That’s it.
And Faye isn’t that at all.
Her death was not violent, and does not happen onscreen. It was a quiet death, presumably from illness, and what’s more: she saw it coming. She was at peace with it.
Anger over her death isn’t the reason for the adventure. Kratos doesn’t start wandering the Nine Realms because he’s angry about his dead wife. He travels the Realms because he wants to honour his wife’s wishes. The journey only happens because of the immense respect he felt for her.
Her death isn’t the sole reason why the adventure starts. Yes, she’s the reason why her husband and son go travelling, but Baldur’s appearance is what introduces violence into the story.
Faye had a life before she met Kratos. She’s not a paper-cutout mother-and-wife. She had friends. She kept secrets. She was a warrior who led a rebellion. Her association with Brok and Sindri is the reason why they agree to help Kratos and Atreus. Kratos acknowledges her talent, and the fact that she was better than him at some things. Her life before Kratos directly affects the story after her death.
Faye is not forgotten by the narrative. The whole story is haunted by her. She knew what would happen. Kratos and Atreus talk about her with each other and with others. It’s clear how much she meant to them and how significant she is to the plot.
Meaningful flashbacks. Usually when a woman is fridged, the flashbacks are just an overly bright snippet of the woman looking pretty and saying some variation of ‘I love you, babe’. But the flashbacks in God of War: Ragnarok are plot-relevant. Kratos and Faye don’t just discuss their relationship. They talk about grief, morality, mortality, Kratos’s past, and the way to raise their son.
Genuine grief. This isn’t a man seeing his wife dead, crying a single tear, killing a bunch of people, and never reflecting on his widower status again. Kratos, Atreus, and other characters all mourn Faye’s passing. Years after her death, Kratos is still deeply moved by his memories of her. She is not forgotten by anyone.
Faye wasn’t some disposable woman. She’s the cornerstone upon which the entire plot rests.

What would Kratos do if the reader got sick? Well, like, I don’t think that a large number of blankets would be saved in his house (despite the fact that it looks cozy, I think it’s very cold there).
— Yandere Kratos with sick reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Warnings:  yandere behavior, and talks about having the flu
A/N: akkk, love this so much!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
With you being sick, it only results in Kratos being more grumpy and severely overbearing. Small answers to anybody outside his personal circle, his devil eyes staring into people’s souls, and being more impatient.
It’s no surprise that he takes your health very seriously. Even a minor cough, or slight sniffle, has him looking at you with worried eyes. He quickly brings you to a healer, who only shrugs their shoulders and suggests medicine to make your immune system pass it faster. And to nobody’s surprise, he doesn’t take it lightly. He’s overprotective, overthinking minor things — which means, you’re going to be coddled to the max.
Kratos replaces everything in the whole cabin to your liking, to keep itself warm for your sake. He gives you wool blankets, piling them on top of you like pieces of cakes. Constant fires that keep you warm, but far enough to be cautious. And wearing thick clothing, being fed a large bowl of stew to keep you nice-and-full.
He regularly wakes you up between naps, giving your elbow a squeeze with an apologetic look before mumbling ‘eat up’, serving you warm and good-smelling soup that he hopes you’ll enjoy.
He does everything in his path to keep your fever down. He checks up on you constantly, a frown on his face prominent as he takes your temperature with his large backhand, grazing his thumb over your sweating forehead, and presses cold towels to your feverish body.
Literally babies you. He will hand-feed you, catching any food that dribbles from the corner of your mouth with his thumb whilst chuckling. And always asks Atreus to fetch you more food at the trading-market that’s soft on your stomach.
He worries a lot. And it’s not something he’s glad about showing — he paces constantly, grunting instead of answering with words, and waiting for the time to be gone, as if you’re going to get better within a snap of fingers. It’s funny really, seeing a man known for his indisputable strength, worrying like a mother; constantly looking at you with wide eyes, and a frown. He’s always touching you, kissing the back-of-your-hand, whilst mumbling words that you cannot make out– to whom, you learn about one night that he’s sorry. Sorry for making you sick, and how you’re suffering because of it.
This said, if you need to get up for an unnecessary thing, or come up with excuses for trying to say you’re better when you’re obviously not. And for that, Kratos isn’t afraid to push you back into bed, telling you to stay and rest. And if he needs to, he’ll keep you trapped within his arms, which we all know, is incredibly solid to get out of.
Within the statement of arms, Kratos is incredibly warm — and it’s no surprise he’s using it when you’re cold. He’s constantly bundled underneath you with many blankets, having you lay on top of him as his arms are wrapped around you like snakes. At times, he’ll move his fingers underneath the back of your shirt and massage your lower back.

Okay okay okay but if it’s true that Ingrid was made by Freyr, then why the hell does his Sheith for Ingrid have the fucking Celtic Triskelion on its medallion????
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And the fact that Ingrid— a literal sword of light—seems to look nothing like any sword that we've seen (not even freya's sword) be similar to the “sword of light” of Celtic mythology????
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As well as the fact that throughout Ragnarok, there were so many references to Celtic/Irish/Scottish/British Isle specific mythology and stories:
Kelpies
mentions of Arthurian Legend of The Lady of the Lake, Nimue
The Scottish play which shall not be named (Shakespeare)
mentions of Oberon and Tatiannia
Mimir being opening called “Puck” from a Mid-Summers Nights Dream by The Norns (Shakespeare)
Mimir’s story about the Laird (The scottish name for a lord) and The Girl
The fact that the British isles is geographically closer to Scandinavia than any other mythological location
the fact that the biggest mystery as to what happened to the remaining giants of Jotunheim is still ongoing and Atreus is now on his quest to find what happened to them and where did they go
And the fact that the Ragnarok ending heavily hinted at the fact that Atreus could have his own spin-off game in the future
Also the fact that the formorians of celtic mythology are often linked to being giants/vikings that came from scandinavia (AKA home of Norse Mythology)
Santa Monica Studios: The math is not mathing, the mythology is not mythology-ing.

I find it hilarious that no one has mentioned the amount of arm and leg and hip strength Atreus must-have for the archery, kicks, flips and climbing he does. Like the dude is flipping enemies twice his height with his legs and doing insane leaps and rolls at such high speeds. I get he's a god but it's honestly so impressive. He may not be bulky like Kratos but you can't deny that Atreus is actually very strong.
And it makes sense. Climbing and archery both rely a lot on leg, shoulder and torso muscles so Atreus is very strong in those areas. I genuinely think that Atreus actually is very physically strong since you see the push-back when he helps Kratos push the hammer and later lift the rock in Helheim (both of which you can see the push-back against Atreus meaning he is actually helping) and how he managed to match the force that Kratos hit Baldur. Never mind the fact that he managed to nock several arrows one-after-another in mid-air despite the amount of air pressure that would be working against him. At the age of 12! Heck, in this game we see him lift a boulder and keep it up for a few seconds and how he is able to match Kratos' power when they tag-team Odin and Atreus even uses his bow to flip the fucker in the air!
I get the joke of him not being able to break the chest with his fist, but he was also able to swing his bow hard enough to break through it. I think that Atreus' strength is affected by his mindset. He is strong unconsciously. But when he tries to make a show of using it by trying to lift Thrud's sword or punch through a chest to impress Sindri, he can't.
Atreus isn't as strong as Kratos by a long shot since they aren't meant to be the same, but Atreus isn't weak in any sense of the word.

"Trolls just wanna have fun", episode #109392893489. And somehow they always want to have fun on YouTube.
Now, I swear with a hand on my heart that I've abandoned any and all attempts at reasoning with them and it's the first time in my very extensive troll fighting career (which I've long retired from) that I ever decided to publish a comment on YouTube that wasn't about gushing over an adorable video of one of my numerous telenovela OTPs.
However, seeing this troll fest in the comment section for a short video of Angrboda vs Thrud's reaction to Atreus's wolf transformation made me realize - or rather remember - that trolls don't intend on citing facts, quotes or employing logic. They're goal isn't to appeal to the general consumers who buy the games (read: those who pay and who therefore matter to developers) or even to each other. Their goal is to throw out their purposefully twisted nonsense into the void for random by passers online to see. Because that's the only type of influence they can have and they know it.
Therefore my troll slaying armor had to be dusted off, if only for today.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Transcript of my comment (because I went back and edited it a little):
The contrast between Angrboda and Thrud's reactions is rather telling and is as well written as everything else in the game. Angrboda already saw Atreus/Loki's transformation (after he witnessed the mural), at it's most formidable for her, when he barked at and nearly ate her alive. But she was able to comfort him and get him to turn back into human form through gentle touch and soothing encouraging voice alone (she was the only one who could teach him to control this power of his without using violence which even Kratos had to resort to). Here Angrboda directly prompts him to take a hold of his power and remain in charge of it which Atreus easily does thanks to her support. Afterwards Angrboda immediately gives him words of approval and admiration.
On the other hand, there's Thrud who always kept showing off her own physical strength to him (and doubting or blaming him every step of the way, like in the situation with Garm) yet somehow always needed Atreus to help her out or solve her problems (be it helping her with the "almost budging" door or working out her mommy and daddy issues which was absolutely not Atreus's place to do, giving he is only 15 himself; another contrast with Angrboda whom he could act his age around). Here Thrud doesn't help Atreus control his ability but just passively accepts the benefits of it because she enjoys seeing a stronger and more useful fighting partner. Hence her reaction. From the narrative standpoint even those details perfectly explain why Angrboda is Atreus/Loki's romantic interest as opposed to Thrud.

Memory Loss
Tumblr media
PAIRING: Freya x Male Reader, Kratos/Heimdall/Thor/Baldur x Female Reader (Romantic) (Separate)
SUMMARY: A jealous rival curses their lover, (Y/N), with memory loss.
As the goddess of Beauty, Freya is admired by many men. However, you were the one that stole her heart. She’d never met a man like you before, and you were a major upgrade from Odin.
You were everything she could hope for: kind, dependable, and most of all, loving. You always tried to help her and Baldur mend their relationship; you even spent whole days with Baldur to try and earn his respect.
And even when Kratos and Atreus killed her son, you stuck with her every step of the way. You didn’t stop her from getting revenge, but you did consult with her about how it hurt you to see her so depressed. Freya could go on and on about how much you complete her.
That was until the curse. A man who Freya had already rejected centuries ago still wouldn’t let up. He sent her all kinds of gifts. But when he found out that Freya was not only in love with, but also marrying you, he flipped.
Sending her sacks full of mistletoe as a way to hurt her. Defacing her house with blood. Even destroying the wildlife and animals. It got so bad that Freyr had to knock some sense into the guy, banishing him away from Vanaheim.
Freya didn’t tell you. She feared you’d run away, wether in a noble pursuit to protect her or out of fear, she didn’t care. She’s a powerful goddess, so she assumed if anything serious did happen, she could just fix it. Freya never suspected that man would curse you with memory loss.
She attacked him the moment she found out, threatening him to tell her the cure. He didn’t though, determined to hurt her husband. She keeps him as a prisoner, torturing him until he tells her how to fix you. As for you, Freya just tries to start over with you.
She’ll tell you that you’re both married, and that you’ve lost your memory. She has a hard time adjusting to treating you less like a lover and more like a friend for your own comfort. Either way, Freya will stay with you so long as you’re still capable of loving her again.
Tumblr media
Kratos adores you. After Faye died, he wasn’t sure if he would ever love again. The sheer amount of people that hate him far outweigh the ones that don’t.
Kratos also didn’t want to push a new woman into Atreus’ life; the boy loves his mother and Kratos doesn’t want Atreus to think he’s replacing her.
Luckily, Atreus grows attached to you as well. He doesn’t quite see you as a new mother, but he welcomed you in with open arms. All was well, and Kratos had met someone else who didn’t see him as a monster.
It truly touched his heart to know that there are people out there who can like him. He didn’t expect for another woman to admire him though. By the time the two of you were married, some lady had started to stalk Kratos.
At first he could only feel eyes on him. But after a while he began to see a shadowy figure in the distance, and it looked to be a woman. He would sometimes see her looking at you or sneaking up to Atreus, and every time it only made Kratos more paranoid.
When the woman does curse you with memory loss, Kratos loses it. He has tried to hold back his rage for so long, but seeing a loved one of his get hurt so badly broke him.
He kills the woman in a fit of rage. And while he does regret not being able to control himself after the fact, he doesn’t regret killing her. Kratos will seek help from his friends to find a cure for your memory loss.
As for you, Kratos just tries to make you feel comfortable and happy. He debates wether he should tell you that you’re married to him, worried you might not believe him and run off. He will always love you though, and refuses to give up on you.
Tumblr media
Heimdall values you as much as he values his position in Asgard, likely even more than that. Some even say that Heimdall likes you more than Odin himself. Heimdall denies this; not because it isn’t true, but because he doesn’t want Odin to find out.
Everyone would goad him about it. They all knew to not mess with you though. To Heimdall, you’re literally perfect, even if you’re covered head to toe in mud. If anyone ever thought of hurting his wife, they’d be dead.
You’re the only woman that has ever managed to stand his attitude and give it back enough to shock him. Most would either cower away or just try to fight him, inevitably losing to his foresight.
There was one woman that had an obsession with Heimdall. She just wouldn’t relent. No matter how cruel, indifferent, or just out right violent he was , she’d follow him. Heimdall couldn’t stand it, he didn’t want you to think he was letting this woman fawn over him.
She attacked you the moment Heimdall wasn’t there. Odin had sent him away on a errand and you were alone with the woman stalking you. She casted her curse of memory loss and when Heimdall returned, he was furious.
He found her easily and looked into her mind, trying to find the cure. He did find out what it was, however he had no idea where to find it nor how far it was. He tried to interrogate the woman, but to no avail; Heimdall killed her since she served no purpose anymore.
If Baldur is still alive then Heimdall will send him out to find the cure and bring it back. If not, then he’ll just send out a Valkyrie to find it. Heimdall won’t be the same until you’re back to normal.
Until you’re cured, Heimdall will spend most of his time reintroducing everything to you. He doesn’t rush back into a relationship with you and focuses on becoming close again to you.
Tumblr media
Thor isn’t very well liked. The people that do like him either only use him or don’t know him well enough. He expected nothing else from you; Thor thought you’d be just like all the others.
And, naturally, you actually hated him at first. You told him right to his face everything about him that disgusted you. Thor was pissed off about you.
When he found out that Odin kept you around since you’re one of the most beautiful woman in all of Midgard, he felt hurt. It was like he was being controlled again.
He couldn’t even defend his own honor because of the All-Father. Color Thor surprised when you begin to be nice to him. He doesn’t trust you first, believing you’re just looking to use him.
When it turns out that your change in attitude is from seeing his relationship with his father, he felt a little seen. As the years went by Thor had trusted you more and even fell in love with you. The two of you married and you got along as good as one can with his family.
However, there was another woman. She’d been in love even back when he was with his first wife. But Thor always avoided her, going as far as killing her family just to send the message. Clearly it wasn’t enough because the woman cursed you.
Everyone thought you and Thor had divorced, confused as to why his wife was acting like she didn’t know him. Only the children of Odin, and Thor’s family, knew of your memory loss from the curse. Thor couldn’t even interrogate the woman for a cure because he killed her with a bolt of thunder.
He has his family searching for a cure, Odin only helping because he can’t use Thor if he’s all focused on you getting better. While they’re searching for a cure, you’ll be well taken cared of by Thor until you’re okay again.
Tumblr media
Baldur has grown to know and love you over the years, trusting you with every fiber of his being. You never once gave up on him, and despite his curse, you never stopped loving him.
When you became his wife Baldur made an oath to forever and always love and protect you. He’d do anything for you, and he has been practicing to become a better person.
He’s working on his relationship with his mother, now being on talking terms at least. And he’s made a truce with Kratos. This was all obviously much to Odin’s dismay.
Now that Baldur has you he doesn’t feel the need to work under his father anymore. He’s always known that he was being used, but a small part of him has always had the hope that he’d feel again. Now that Baldur has you, he doesn’t care to be so obsessive with his curse anymore.
But another woman, someone who fell in love with Baldur after a night together far back, was furious. She wanted to be his wife! So she plotted to curse you with the help of a monster; that monster being Odin. Of course, the woman would take all the blame.
Baldur beat her to a pulp until she told him what the cure was. And he killed her afterwards in the mist of a blind rage. He never wanted this for you, his soulmate.
Baldur made it his mission to set out for however long until he could find you a cure. And he will. After all, he’s all of Asgard’s best tracker.
He leaves you with Kratos and the man’s family, making sure you’re in safe hands until he can fix you.
- Fin

Hi! I love your Kratos posts there isn’t enough content on here about him!! This isn’t really a request but more of an idea (if you want to take up on it ofc) but i absolutely loved your relationship rambles on Kratos so I loved to here your rambles and thoughts on if you think he’d ever have any more children and what he’d be like with more kids. Upon first glance at the towering spartan, your thoughts would be somewhere along the lines of “intimidating, scary, stoic…”. To a stranger it is hard to imagine someone as cold as Kratos would even want a family. But in reality, it's something the man longs for.
To start a family with you however, will force Kratos to face the pain and trauma he’s forced down. The fact he murdered his first family, and his harsh treatment of Atreus when he was a young boy. A big fear of Kratos is turning out like his own father, being cruel and vindictive with little to no care for others. But in your eyes, Kratos is the kindest man you have met. You’ve seen how he interacts with others, the underlying gentleness in the spartan when he interacts with Atreus. How his eyes will worriedly flicker to you every so often just to make sure you’re ok. You think Kratos is nothing like his father.
But give the poor man some time, as seen before with Atreus when he was very young, Kratos doesn’t always have the… healthiest ways of dealing with inner turmoil. Trips off to the forest to clear his mind will be quite frequent, sometimes you join him but majority of the time you do not.
After the initial fear, Kratos would be delighted to raise a large family with you (Or a small one! If that's what you want of course, Kratos is just happy to be with you). Kratos does quite like the pregnant look on you, it makes him happy seeing you trust him so much to raise children with him.
In terms of a big family I like to think somehow you would end up with 4 kids, 3 older boys and the youngest being a girl. When you give birth to your daughter, Kratos is more choked up out of all his children’s births. Holding a little girl in his arms again makes him remember how he failed Calliope. Father protectiveness to the max with her, it’ll be hard for her to find a future partner.
Generally speaking, Kratos' way of raising children is still a little harsh. He wants them to be capable and to be able to pull their own weight. But not to worry, it's nothing traumatizing. Daily sparring exists, and once your daughter is old enough to join in so do you. Although sparring sessions with you and Kratos are much more lighthearted and silly than your childrens.
Atreus would be overjoyed with his new siblings, on his visits home you can often see him roughhousing with the boys and teaching your daughter self defense, even though Kratos has done this a million times now.
Your family will be full of love, some days will be harder than others. Kratos won’t just be able to remove all of his struggles from his memory. There will be arguments, but you and Kratos will persevere. These arguments consist of disagreements on parenting techniques or Kratos’s awful habit to shut people out at times.

Again I draw how father and son are hugging, but this time the father does not have a gun behind his back, THANK YOU (a reference to the fact that I drew a moment from the ending of FarCry6)
Before the spoilers I will write a "SPOILER", before that the text without spoilers
AAAAAAAAA I.. I have already spammed the entire offtop in VK and Twitter with emotions! I've never cried over a game so much in my life. Even over the last part of GoW, even over those games that I also immensely love. But the most important thing is that I have never cried SO much with happiness in my life. Not from grief, not from pain or fear. But from happiness and love. I've never experienced anything like this so much. My great respect to Santa Monica Studio.
Usually, when I like the game so much, I roll up a write of pages of criticism, (yes, you saw how I reviewed FarCry6 and the DLC for it), but here I surprisingly have nothing to say. With the exception of comments about the overload and prolongation of the game by events and too frequent monotonous battles. But these are just remarks, and not so weighty disadvantages that I drop the game. We have already joked with friends about some similar parallels between GoW and FC6, from dictatorship and uprisings, to character relationships, and agreed that GoW is an example of how it was necessary to build emotional cutscenes and the plot as a whole in FC6. Ubisoft, please learn. And of course it's a pity for the cut-out content with Sinmara. Thanks to her, Atreus could again evoke controversial feelings, show himself from an interesting side, and Kratos' words about the heart would play stronger. It would be possible to shorten any quests like collecting pear or going for the moon and thanks to this dont cut-out Sinmara, but we have what we have. After all, GoW is one of the most powerful, in my opinion, in terms of the concept and its artistic interpretation, the game. Scandinavian mythology is a very popular topic, but the way developers adapt it, intertwine the plot and gameplay, make incredible designs and environments, bright characters is priceless in the gaming industry.
And that's all I could say about criticism. And if I start to remember and look for all the little things, including replicas that I liked so much, then I really will roll 20 pages again, but I don't need it... So if you want to see how I yelled from certain points, they are in the twitter @TeronsCock and maybe I will still draw something. Moreover, I am already bursting with headcannons as I returned to Midgard 4 years later, not without the help of Heath or Tobeas, as always, and again went all this way and emotions with characters that I already missed from the last time. Well, this time my friends are with me, who can even nullify Kratos' patience :)
SPOILER NEXT
Another note - I've also never cried in my life from the fact that the character just stayed alive I had previously jumped with happiness and screamed like hell when Vaas turned out to be alive, when Pagan did not die in the end. But that's exactly CRYING so hard, this is the first time.. Literally since 2018, I've been waiting for Kratos to die, all the characters have been waiting and afraid, and we're with them, and in the end I'm just.... AAAAAAA I haven't seen such a happy ending even in a Disney movie ..... I just love these characters and the game

Heimdall Headcanons that no one asked for:
Heimdall has no swordsmanship skills whatsoever... why you may ask? Because he was that cocky with his foresight that he never saw the need to train. Boy be using Gjallarhorn to bat people away, he has no clue what he's doing.
Heimdall is impeccable about his appearance. He spends hours grooming himself because the thought of dirt and being disheveled links in his mind to failure to stay untouched (see scene where Atreus' gets dirt on Heimdall and Heimdall gets PISSED because he failed to prevent that happening).
Speaking of hair, he wears that many braids because of him always being on the wall to stay away from people. The wind messes his hair up too much and he has to have it that way, only ever unbraiding it when he's by himself and in his house on top of the wall.
He also lives on top of the wall, well away from everyone because mentally he can't stand to listen and hear everyone's intentions all the time. Odin kept him on the Great Lodge when he was young to expose Heimdall to a lot of the horrors of people's intentions, only granting him the peace on the wall when Heimdall was blindly faithful and loyal to every word Odin said.
He prefers animals because they have pure intentions. He can't read their minds like Atreus, but he knows their intentions and that's enough for him to find refuge in their presence.
He did care for Gulltoppr, but much like the love he was given from Odin, it's only conditioned on usefulness. He would have mourned Gulltoppr if he lived in his own time but that would have been conflicted with his own understanding of love.
Heimdall has never had a drink. It's beneath him and he associates it with being neglecting his duty. He cannot impair his mind as he is ever protecting Asgard at all times. (Therefore, he's a lightweight if he ever tried to drink).
Heimdall is arrogant and distrustful because he is lonely and cannot socialise with people due to his foresight. He perceives every intention people have, their intent to leave a conversation with him, their boredom talking to him, to be their only truth and therefore concludes everyone despises him. This makes him who he is today, the known asshole of Asgard who no one wants to be around because he shuts everyone off first to avoid feeling hurt by them.
Heimdall does have tattoos, though they weren't tattooed on him. His magic presented them on his skin and they are definitely golden in colour.
He is part Vanir. His mother's were the Nine Sisters but Odin has made Heimdall unaware of this fact and hid his past from him. This was to ensure Heimdall was only ever loyal to Odin and Asgard.
Or he's part Jotunn as someone has pointed out. Which is deliciously angsty in my opinion.
And... that's it for now, I'm sure my mind will conjure more later on.

reader and kratos get into a big argument? but with a fluffy ending❤️‍🩹
Warnings: argument but fluff
Genre: the slightest angst but fluffy end
Tumblr media
"Kratos....." there was silence "...come on are yous still angry?" you ask him
"Yes," he says as blankly as ever. What else did you expect from the stoic warrior?
You were out hunting and had a minor run-in with a typical monster. Like he is with Atreus, he wants you to fight along with him and not on your own. However this time you really were helping him. One had jumped on his back to get him into a headlock, so you jump into action.
You had gotten the enemy off but, had also gotten yourself pinned underneath. You flinch and wait for the blow to come but it never came. Kratos did save you but it ended with a very cold stare in your direction. He simply gave you the cold shoulder and started his way back home. Only speaking when necessary but other than that, not a word came from him.
"Kratos, be reasonable. I saved you, you saved me, that is how it has always been and that is how a team works-"
"You were not supposed to put yourself in danger when I could handle it," he said coming inside the hut to Mimir on the table
"Right because being in a headlock is how you keep control. If it's supposed to be that may maybe I just won't come anymore and I'll be your little housewife, hm? Does that sound better for you?" you sarcastically suggest
"Perhaps that will be better." right, he also gives you sarcasm, only digging the hole deeper than it was
"Oh gods please, I'm not a helpless and frail thing you know-"
“But you are! In fact you should be here at home where you belong!” He says quickly turning around to face you. Now your blood was boiling
“Where I belong?! Excuse me? Who the hell do you think you are?! Telling me where I belong and where I don’t!” You yell back at him
“I am your husband and the man of this home. You are under my rules as long as I am breathing. You shall remain in the house if I say, you are to fight when I say.” he claimed, taking a step forward towards you. One thing he really loved about you was your unshakable character, but it was also something that pinched a nerve.
"...if that's how you want it....you can find someone else then," you say in a hushed tone staring into his grey eyes. Turning on your heel you take your cloak and head out the door again.
"Woman.....stop....Y/N come back inside," he said expecting you to turn around but you never did. Instead, you shut the door and walk into the forest. Not only were you upset, but you were pissed at how low he thought of you. You knew he was very masculine both physically, mentally, and emotionally..but he still had no right to speak of you this way. You train with him and you were more than capable of fighting for yourself and for him as well.
You walked about the forest for a couple of hours and allowed yourself to cool down. Maybe you were wrong for not seeing it from his perspective and that he was only worried. You walk back to the familiar path that leads to the hut you shared. You walk inside to see the fire was lit and the house was warm. SHedding off the cloak from your shoulders you go to sit in front of the fire. You watched as the orange flames danced in the darkness of the room, the warmth embracing you within the coolness.
A presence entered the room but you didn't turn around. A heavy sigh was heard, and footsteps come toward you. A large fur surrounds your figure and Kratos kneels beside you. You say nothing, being too stubborn to say anything
"You are more than what I told you. Sometimes...you frighten me with how far you have come, and I do not want you to injure yourself or come into harm's way," he says gently brushing a finger against your cheek.
"So....am I more than just a woman?" you asked
"Yes," he gives you the slightest of smirks
"and do I have to stay home while you go out with Atreus?" you ask testing the waters as to how much he would answer
"I would rather you come with us, just be careful. Come now, let us rest," he says holding his arm open for you to insert yourself into. You walk into your shared room to put yourselves and the petty argument to rest

Ok so like. Heimdall. Love him, hate him, whatever—I feel as though a Rather Large Point of his character is often overlooked, and its actually one of the most important parts ! So, I wanted to make a (mildly longwinded) post about both his personality and how its a stellar example of Odin and the abuse he’s so frequently described as having put his “family” through. TW’s for discussions of emotional and psychological abuse from a parental figure, the cycle of abuse, and a very brief mention of alcoholism
First and foremost, this post is NOT to excuse some of the genuinely shitty things Heimdall is responsible for both in the present setting of the game and things mentioned in the past (by Mimir, mostly). There is certainly plenty that he has done wrong. What this post is about is one of the most frequently misunderstood aspects of him; which is that while yeah, he’s definitely an asshole—especially for having spoken to Literal Kids like that I mean cmon Atreus is like 13—but there is ABSOLUTELY a reason for that! Does that excuse it? Not at all ! But it does give an immense amount of insight into both Heimdall and Odin as characters. Primarily, it’s an excellent example of how Odin just Loves to nurture codependency, and that his way of going about that often involves whittling a person down to whichever traits he thinks will make it most convenient for him to bend to his will/manipulate. This is obviously seen with Thor pretty explicitly in game, Odin commenting that he’s really only good for fighting and drinking, but I 100% believe the same has and continues to happen with Heimdall. His outwardly haughty, somewhat conceited/holier-than-thou attitude that boils down to everyone else being beneath him in some way are simply the traits that Odin has made him out to be—over lifetimes. He is special because he has Gjallarhorn, he is better and smarter because he was gifted foresight, and the job of protecting his home from threats. He is Odin’s most trusted and loyal confidant, and for a guy who likely wants admiration and pride from the All-Father more so than anyone else in Asgard, that’s reason enough to be completely at his will. It’s why he’s so absurdly faithful to Odin. Because really, what is Heimdall without any of those things? He can’t fight for the life of him, he’s not nearly built for that. He’s still obviously pretty young (even in god terms) so it’s not as though he’s fit for being a general or war counsel. So, strip away the foresight and illusion of an elevated position, and you get a kid who just... desperately wants to prove himself to his dad. A kid who gets shoved away at the top of a wall on his own for eons. Which, might I mention, Heimdall basically says upon meeting Atreus. LIKE THE PROJECTION IS LOUD
Tumblr media
With all that said, in my very sporadic and probably a little incomprehensible way, it really isn’t a surprise that he acts the way he does—because he’s reacting to trauma. Of course he’s going to lean completely into the egotistical act, because that’s all that he is. And, most importantly, when he’s in a position in which that identity is questioned, he like. IMMEDIATELY crumbles and retreats in on himself in a way that’s goddamn blatant in one of the very first cutscenes with him: after his fight with Atreus. Unfortunately Tumblr adamantly refuses to let me post this damn scene as a video so we’re just gonna have to make do with pictures BUT. But... the fact that he sobers up so quickly in Odin’s presence, his determination in convincing him that Atreus is of ill intent (because. yk. thats Heimdall’s JOB) and the way his expression drops as soon as Odin shows even a Hint of being disappointed in him. LIKE. LOOK AT THIS.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I know I definitely read his expression as confusion the first time I watched this scene, but upon multiple rewatches it’s pretty fucking clear that isn’t what this is. Heimdall isn’t confused at Odin’s reactions, he’s scared. Of Odin. Genuinely I implore you to go give this scene another watch because the way he whispers the “But... All-Father...” line sounds like he’s damn near about to cry.  WITH ALL OF THAT SAID ! Heimdall is shown rather brilliantly in his introduction on the sheer basis that we, as the player, are supposed to read him as a jerk with a stick-up-his-ass, only to then see that demeanor falter entirely in the presence of his father. He is a living, breathing example (as much as Thor is) of the effects Odin’s manipulation and abuse have on all that he’s supposedly close with and I think it’s a facet that tends to get forgotten amidst a large portion of the fandom piling on hate for Heimdall. Which is to say, if you hate him, that’s absolutely fine! he’s uh. Not designed to be a likeable guy. What Heimdall is designed to be is a representation of trauma and unhealthy coping mechanisms, of which his character shows splendidly in multiple instances even outside of the stuff I’ve shown here. In the hopes of not letting this post get any more egregious in its length than it already is, these are the main things I’m going to cover. but just. Yeah, got tired of seeing takes saying he’s a one dimensional character when he’s obviously got a lot to him !!!!

Atreus: A chest! *Tries to break it using his hand but fails lol* AHH!
Revna, trying to hold herself from laughing: Not easy, yeah?
Atreus: Shush! *Breaks the chest with his bow*
I think that in one moment Odin send Atreus and Revna in a mission together (of course with Atreus completely oblivious that Revna is actually Björn all along) and Revna does not waste chance to be mean to Atreus lol, she simply likes to be mean to him xD
Broken (Looks up from her scroll and reads the ask before chuckling): Oh, this is gonna be fun. Very well, let the words weave together!
Revna chuckled as Atreus pulled his hand back while shaking it in pain before flexing his fingers to make sure none of his fingers were broken or fragmented before grasping his wrist with his other hand and rotating it before looking at the chest before him, without a single dent on its lid; the fact that he attempted to open a chest as the Ghost of Sparta does when he clearly lacks the muscles to do so made the Great Bear masquerading as a Raven laugh.
"Not as easy as you assumed it would be, is it, Jötnar?" Revna asked from a distance as she folded her arms over her chest with a smirk on her face and a perfect eyebrow raised while Atreus took the bow from hanging around his shoulders while pouting at her; he knew she hated him but he could never understand why considering that they had never met before, or he couldn't remember meeting someone like her.
"Oh, shush; it's just that Father made it look so easy." Atreus said before he used his bow to break the chest open, then reached in to collect its riches.
"Considering that your father is the Infamous Ghost of Sparta, who slaughtered the entire Greek Patheon and he is literally far stronger than you in regards to muscle mass; you really thought that you would break a chest lid with ease as he does? You are truly as foolish as you look, Loki." Revna said as she started walking down the path with her hands behind her back, she looked around for the temple they were instructed to find by the All-Father, Odin.
Revna took a deep breath as she reflected on the events that had led to this moment. Earlier that day, she had been assisting her mother Sif, who was the Goddess of Grain & Fertility. While Sif was trying to figure out how to undo the curse that the Wild Witch had placed on her son, Thor and Thrud were busy with their training. Suddenly, Heimdall appeared before them and summoned Revna to appear before the All-Father, Odin.
Revna quickly excused herself from her mother and Heimdall and made her way to Odin. When she arrived, she was shocked to find that Odin was in conversation with one of her greatest enemies, Loki/Atreus. Despite her hatred for him, Odin explained that Loki needed her help with something, and since Thor and Thrud were occupied, he wanted Revna to assist him.
Although she was reluctant, Revna had no choice but to agree, and she allowed the blackbirds to teleport them both to their destination.
"You know... You never really told me how you ended up on Asgard; you don't look like you're an Aesir like the others." Atreus said as he jogged to follow Revna, who continued looking ahead with a scowl on her face and her hands behind her back.
"It is no business of yours, Jötnar, stop your constant pestering in my affairs and let us focus on the mission at hand so I may return to aiding Lady Sif with her work." Revna said with disinterest in her voice.
"Sif? Do you mean Thor's Wife? You know her?" Atreus asked.
"If it shall shut you up, yes. I am currently staying with Lord Thor's Family and I keep myself busy with aiding the Aesir until I find what I am looking for." Revna said.
"If you're staying with Thor's Family, then would you happen to know about someone named Björn?" Atreus asked.
"Lord Björn - Lord Thor's Son? Yes, I have interacted with him on a few occasions but he is usually rather busy and is currently away from Asgard on some kind of business for the All-Father. Why do you ask?" Revna inquired with a raised eyebrow; she was going to have some fun with Loki for a while, seeing him angered just by calling her male counterpart 'Thor's Son' brought a small smile to her face.
"Listen, Revna, you might not know this but Björn is not Thor's Son; he's my younger brother. You see, he got into an argument with our father and ran away from home during a blizzard; we could find him in time before Thor arrived and took him away to Asgard. I've been trying to find him while working with Odin but I haven't seen him ever since I got here." Atreus said with disappointment in his voice but Revna shook her head with a scoff.
"That's not what Lord Björn told me. He told me that you and the Ghost of Sparta killed his elder Brothers: Magni, Modi, and Baldur; the ones he bound himself to by means of an Ancient Blood Contract. As for what happened in the Blizzard, the Ghost attempted to sever the bond he made with his elder brothers and Lord Björn fled into the snow after blasting that despicable man with the very magic inherited from his brothers. Quite fitting, if I do say so myself; tell me, Loki, does the ghost bear the scar Lord Björn burned into his flesh?" Revna asked with a smirk, causing Atreus to glare at her.
"You don't know what happened! You weren't there! Father just wanted to protect Björn and purify him; I know the Sons of Thor forced him into the blood contract and Father knew it too, he was just trying to..." Atreus tried but Revna's roar cut him short.
"You are the ignorant one, Loki! If you had actually listened to Lord Björn, you would know just how much his brothers meant to him! They were the only ones who treated him as a person while you and your Father treated him as if he was crafted from the most fragile of glass! He desired to be a warrior but you smothered him with your unnecessary coddling and refused to listen to his requests and desires; you wanted to turn him into another version of his mother, while she was more of a warrior than either you or your father could have ever been. After all, she was able to stand toe-to-toe with Lord Thor himself." Revna looked ahead and kept walking but she continued, driving the last needle into Atreus' heart.
[Quick Note: The most fragile glass is Annealed Glass, also known as 'Float Glass'.]
"Regardless of the bloodline he was born into, The Thorsdottir Bloodline is the one he chose because it was the one who accepted him just the way he was. Magni, Modi, and Baldur were the brothers he chose and loved; it doesn't matter the two of you shared a womb. Lord Thor is the father he desired; regardless of his link to the ghost. Lord Björn is now an Aesir and he shall never return to the sheltered life he lived; once a cub, now a bear. Bears are not afraid to bear their fangs to those who threaten what belongs to them - stay away from him or his teeth shall be in your neck, Loki." Revna finished as she started ascending the stairs to reach the temple, leaving a heartbroken Atreus standing at the bottom while trying to fight back the creeping tears.

About an Atreus-lead game…
(Note: I originally wrote this for Reddit but it’s not gaining steam there because my god does Reddit hate this idea. But I spent too much time typing it out for it to get no eyes at all so fuck it. It’s getting posted here too. But it’s been copy pasted verbatim so that’s why the tone sounds different than what I usually post over here)
I’m admittedly a little surprise to see such negativity towards this idea, at least on Reddit. But I’ve realized by reading more posts about it that the people who don’t like the idea are picturing an entirely different game than the one I’m picturing.
So let’s talk about it
The main issue I’m seeing is people against the idea are imagining games lead by the exact same Atreus as the one that appears in Ragnarok. I’m not a game dev, but I am a storyteller, and I can tell you unequivocally that this would not be the case
Firstly, an Atreus-led game would almost certainly star an older Atreus. Probably an Atreus in his early twenties. If nothing else it’s just the most practical option if they plan on keeping Sunny Suljic as his actor. He’s already older than Atreus was in Ragnarok and it’ll probably be another year or two before Santa Monica is ready to record another hypothetical GOW game. Not that they can’t recast Atreus, I’d just be really surprised if they did.
This would give us an Atreus that’s a bit more experienced and fun to play for an entire game. While still being inexperienced enough to have a good arc and make lots of improvements over the course of the game.
Next, I see people saying they didn’t enjoy his gameplay during Ragnarok. I think assuming that his gameplay would be exactly the same in a solo game is a little short sighted. People are forgetting his gameplay is not MEANT to carry an entire game in Ragnarok. His segments are relatively short and more story focused than combat focused, at least when you compare it to the rest of the game. If he were to star in his own game, his gameplay would most likely be MASSIVELY expanded. In fact I think he has a ton of potential for fun mechanics in his own game:
Seeing as this franchise has Kratos fight with three different weapons each with unique gameplay, it’s super likely Atreus would get the same treatment. I could see him getting a more close-ranged weapon, think sword or something akin to it, as well as a medium ranged weapon like Kratos’ blades. If we leave the Norse lands with him (which I think we will) it’s likely these weapons will be from other cultures, and we’ll get to see very different designs and mechanics around them.
Secondly is magic. We know he has an affinity for it, but outside of runes the games don’t really have a in-depth spell casting system. This could change with an Atreus lead game, especially if it takes place when he’s a few years older. I could see him having learned more Giant magic in that time, and this could lead the way into some very cool gameplay. Combine that with leaving Midgard, and Atreus could be learning magic from all over. Imagine an Atreus game that takes him to Egypt, and he gets to learn the magic of that land. I think it would be SUPER fun!
Lastly, the mechanic I think has the most potential is shapeshifting. It’s his “Spartan Rage” ability now, but it’s still very new for him in Ragnarok. Loki in the mythos is a natural shapeshifter, he does it constantly, a more experienced Atreus might have that kind of control over his shapeshifting. I could see him learning new forms over the course of a game. Maybe some are story given and others you have to hunt for yourself. I’d imagine it’d work a bit like finding the keys to the other realms, some are given, but others you have to go out of your way to find. I imagine being able to pick between forms, if it stays his “special move” maybe you could select one like you select between the different types of Spartan Rage for Kratos. Each form with its own strengths and weaknesses in combat. Maybe it’s a mix of both, some forms you can access during normal gameplay and others are reserved for more intense moments. He could learn the forms of the new lands he goes to, turning into lions, elephants, even other mythical creatures of the lands. There is SO MUCH you could do with a shapeshifting system.
My point is, I see Atreus as a character ripe with potential for his own game, and am surprised to find people who don’t look past Ragnarok to see it. Obviously I didn’t mind his segments in the game, but I also play on story mode so that should give you an idea of how important combat is to me. Even so, I never thought what we saw in Ragnarok was all we’d ever get from him. This is a character who has just BARELY scratched the surface of his abilities and that shouldn’t be dismissed so quickly.
If you still don’t like the idea that’s fine. Kratos is great! But I think Atreus could be a very fun main character in his own game. If you read all this thank you and I’d love to hear what you think!

Okay so related to that reblog I did from @forgedobsidian but
fr an underrated element of the plot of Ragnarok is how everyone--EVEN FATE ITSELF--interprets prophecy using limited information and their own biases, and how knee-jerk responses to that only make the situation worse. It's actually wild on a replay how right but not right literally everyone was and how the parts where they weren't right completely changed the outcome. Had to put this under a cut because I am once again screaming for too long about God of War but think about it!!
Atreus is depicted holding a father with a marred eye in his arms as that father is badly injured and possibly dying, and he seems upset. Everyone assumes it will be his own father (and to be fair, Kratos has been killed like. so many times). It's actually ODIN, the All Father, not technically "dying" but getting soul pokeball'd, and Atreus is upset because his offer of redemption was shut down. Atreus is seen alone at the end of the mural prophecy not because he lost his father, but because he has decided to go his own way in the world.
War god with a spear will lead the armies at Ragnarok. Assumption is it's Tyr, because that's the cultural knowledge everyone has. NO ONE can guess that it'd be Kratos, who leads them into Ragnarok with the spear that Brok makes for him.
Surtr and Sinmara create Ragnarok. This is depicted as a romantic embrace that causes them to meld, leading Atreus to assume that both of them are needed to be there. In the end, their love DOES create Ragnarok, but it's Surtr's sacrificing himself so Sinmara doesn't HAVE to die and the fact that they literally gave each other their hearts that does it, not a crystal gems fusion dance.
And again, people's knee-jerk reactions to the interpretations are at best a misunderstanding, and at worst actually cause the situation to happen, possibly while creating new and exciting problems in the process. Atreus and Kratos nearly have this massive rift in their relationship due to the whole "fate says Kratos is going to die" thing. Atreus trying to find Tyr to fulfill the Tyr-at-Ragnarok prophecy lets Odin right into their hideout, and arguably leads to Kratos being in the situation where he's the war god with a spear (Brok's death being a big part of the push towards them starting a war with Asgard). And Freya's helicopter parenting did cause Baldur to die a needless death (his hatred of her and inability to let that go being a big part of what gets him killed).
It is only in the circumstances where people choose to just calm the hell down and live their own lives, trusting in themselves and others rather than fretting about prophecy, that the outcomes are fairly happy. Faye not telling Kratos about his and Atreus's fates gave them that freedom for a long time. Kratos and Atreus agreeing that they make decisions for themselves mends the rift between them. Freya was right to point out that Kratos didn't have malice in his heart when he killed Baldur because it does kind of change the outcome. It means that even if he's the guy who keeps ending up in situations where he has to kill gods, he's not a monster. Which is the big important thing here in terms of his actions, his character development, everything. If he had let himself become convinced again that he was a monster, who knows where that might've taken them? Nowhere good, that's for sure!!!
It's like there's this distinction in the worldbuilding between prophecy and fate. Prophecy is set in stone, and everything we see prophesized does happen. But there's not really such a thing as fate. Just people who use past outcomes and behaviors to try and interpret prophecy. And if they don't take into account that people can change, or that they might not have all the facts, then they're inevitably going to miss what's really being shown.

Look at my new dog, boy.
His name is Kveldulf, he’s an Úlfheðinn/Werewolf and he can turn into animals by putting their pelts on. Mostly a wolf but maybe also other things whos to stop me.  More info under cut
Random Assortment of Facts and things:
Like I said he can use pelts to transform into animals and such. Can ALWAYS turn into a wolf regardless
Can transform just parts of his body if he needs to
Can also transform into a beastly giant horrible gangly werewolf thing :)
From Vanaheim, grew up with Freya and Freyr (a bit younger than them though)
One of the most skilled of the Úlfhéðnar, but still picked on for being a runt
Very Very Aggressive and Intense
Freya’s guard and friend :)
Stayed in Asgard with her once she got married to Odin
Odin convinced them to let him use the Úlfhéðnar warriors somehow, as he does. Obviously this was a horrible mistake
Hes really close to Tyr and Tyr helps him meditate and calm himself down and also become more in tune with the animals and such (this is when he starts being able to transform into things other than a wolf)
When Freya is exiled he’s also exiled, but Odin casts his damn spells and he’s not allowed to get close to her, and hes sad and pissed about it
uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh things happen idk I don’t wanna type all the plot ideas I have for him here
He eventually becomes Atreus’ mentor of sorts and helps him with his shapeshifting ability :)
He can turn into a dragon because I said so, but Odin has his dragon hide so he can’t actually do it until he gets that back :/
