i am tired of being haunted
by ghosts that never even
had the guts to love me
while they were still alive.
i will not grieve something
that never existed.
you cannot make me.
not this time.
not again.

Some Star Wars fans have forgotten how monumental The Mandalorian was when it first came out. Because we now live in an era where we're being spoiled with so much content - which I absolutely love! - that moment is being taken for granted, when people were absolutely floored by the cinematic quality of The Mandalorian and its brand-new characters that really made the galaxy come to life. It may not be the best in some people's eyes, and that's okay, but it definitely set the precedent that has allowed for all the incredible live-action series that have followed, and it deserves to be respected as such.

scattered general good omens season 2 thoughts below the cut
- neil gaiman remains my favorite writer even if he’s unequivocally broken my brain a little bit. and john finnemore, whose work on cabin pressure i enjoyed thoroughly when i was younger, was a marvelous choice for co-writer this time round.
- michael sheen and david tennant genuinely might be the two best actors alive. they’re so perfectly cast and every single interaction they have and every moment they have to themselves is so magnificently calibrated. i love them as aziraphale and crowley so very very much and i hope they are proud of their work because they should be.
- the ineffable bureaucracy was so sneakily and delightfully handled. i don’t think anyone could have predicted that ship ever becoming canon but i thought it was so adorably handled. hope they’re having a nice time on alpha centauri 🥺
- the humor this season is VERY pratchetty and all the funny moments genuinely made me grin. the demons not understanding spelling, muriel as a “human police officer,” gabriel/jim’s himbo moments, THE INEPT NAZI ZOMBIES… so good. i think terry would enjoy so much of this season.
- the historical flashbacks were a DELIGHT and i LOVED seeing their first meeting before the big bang 🥺
- i like maggie and nina a lot and i really hope we get a season three because i am really rooting for them. YAY taking time in relationships after a breakup. that’s so important and healthy and i’m glad that’s how we’ve left them for now. i hope they have a nice juicy part to play in the future.
- the second coming being season three’s plot is too perfect (presumably based on terry’s notes with neil for 668: the neighbor of the beast) and i can’t wait to see how it turns out.
- THE ENTIRE LAST MOMENTS WHERE WE THINK WE’RE GETTING A MUTUAL CONFESSION. BUT NO. IT GOES SO WRONG. AND THEN AZIRAPHALE’S “I NEED YOU I NEED US” AND CROWLEY JUST PLANTING ONE ON HIM AND AZI HAVING NO CLUE WHAT TO DO WITH HIS HANDS AND WHEN THEY BREAK HE’S DEVASTATED AND CAN ONLY SAY HE FORGIVES HIM. and then aziraphale touching his lips as crowley leaves and the dark reprise of nightingale holy fucking shit you cannot make this shit up i am forever devastated and replaying every bit in my head because gooooooood michael and david fucking killed me

Today’s installment of “I watch Hayden Christensen’s filmography and tell you how pretty he is in it” is The Last Man (2019)
Hayden plays Kurt Matheson, a veteran suffering from severe PTSD and hallucinations. Increasing gang violence, climate disasters and the sermons of a doomsday street prophet lead Kurt to start preparing for the end of days. He takes a job to pay for his homemade fortress but his mobster boss and the boss’ beautiful daughter threatens to derail Kurt’s survival plans.
How pretty is he in it? When Hayden first appears on screen, his Santa beard and old prospector long johns are a near jumpscare. But once he loses those a half-hour in, he’s about as hot as he’s ever looked.

Welcome to the gun show indeed.
Does he get drenched at some point?: No proper drenching but he does get good and sweaty (and shirtless) a couple times. 2 💦 out of 5
How’s the movie itself? Pretty bad! There’s approximately four half-baked plots at once with no effort to make them cohesive and dialogue & line delivery that makes the Prequels seem Oscar-worthy in comparison. Hayden is just about the only bright spot, he plays unstable characters really well and if I could pluck his character Kurt out of this movie and into a better one I absolutely would. I’ll give this movie some credit for *looking* way better than it had any right to, and Kurt and his love interest Jessica are cute (and their love scene is spicy and definitely the best scene in the movie)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Is the RottenTomatoes rating unfairly low: It’s currently sitting on a big fat 0 but there’s only 5 reviews. The audience score of 24% feels way too high though, I’d say this deserves a 10-15% rating.
In short: The concept is interesting and Hayden along with Harvey Keitel do the most they can with what they get, but they’re not given much. I cannot in good conscience recommend anyone watch this movie but if you must, only do it if you’re in the middle of a Hayden hyperfixation. Otherwise, just go to the love scene about halfway through and after that stick to the gifs.

Alex's Version
TW for major miscommunication, heavy angst, end of a long term relationship. He wants kids & marriage. GN!Reader, no use of Y/N
"Marriage?" You repeated, making a face like the world alone was venom on your tounge.
The two of you were lounging on the couch, watching some movie he'd always want to see. The protagonists sharing in a passionate kiss, newly engaged.
"You're telling me you wouldn't want that?" He asked, heart sinking as you shook your head. Clearly disinterested in the idea altogether.
"You do?" Call him old fashioned, but he imagined himself one day watching his love walk down the isle. Imagined his house to be filled by small giggles and toys. Imagined he'd be laying in bed alongside his spouse and kids telling bedtime stories in silly voices.
"Yeah. Marriage, a house, kids, the whole shebang." He shrugged, swinging his arm out vaguely. Consciously reminding himself not to make a face during such a topic. "You don't?"
Movie now paused and forgotten, the two of you untangled from one another. Sitting on opposite sides of the couch; your features shaded with pain. Realizing the stark difference between your intentions for this relationship.
His face remained stoic. After years of training, and being within inches of death, and loss he learned to keep his expression neutral.
You'd known and loved him long enough to see right past his walls; you knew his tells.
His eyes shined with a bizzare mixture of hope and pain. Hoping his love for you would be enough as he grieved the loss of the life he planned.
Loving you would just have to be enough.
Every morning he'd remind himself of this, voice still thick from sleep as he whispered the words. Heart swelling when you reciprocated them, pulling him close for a few more minutes in bed.
Loving you with every ounce of his being worked to patch up the cracks in his soul for a handful of months. Pushing down the grief he felt, thinking of all the things he wouldn't get to experience.
For you, he'd give it all up. Loving you would just have to be enough.
Even through the long deployments, and contrasting goals for the future - your relationship grew. Lives became more intertwined. Signing a lease on a new condo, discussing what are dealbreakers in a house.
He even toyed with the idea of asking you to keep him company until forever ends. Even if it would be unofficial.
Loving you was enough.
"So, when are you two going to be chasing your own rugrats around?" His best friend, Nate asked one night. Smile dropping as he got a half hearted shrug in return.
"They don't want that," Alex sighed, taking a swig of his drink to avoid his friends concerned gaze. "The idea of kids, marriage and the old school traditions aren't us."
They aren't you.
Shaking his head, drink now placed on the railing of the deck; Nate scoffed, standing up. "Since when is that not you? That's all you've ever wanted since the day I met you!"
Biting his lip, eyes cast down as Nate ranted on. Baffled at the idea that his friend was giving up dreams he'd had since high school!
"I love them, and relationships are about sacrifice. Give and take. I gave in on the idea because they make me happy. Loving them will have to be enough. It is enough. " Alex fought back, frustration burning in his chest.
"Will have to be enough? Do you hear yourself?" The other man countered, lips pulled back in disgust. "You're losing yourself. That's not give and take. That's give and get nothing in return"
The night ended shortly after that, a bitter goodbye and silent drive home. The skin over his knuckles taut, fading into a stark white as he replayed Nate's words over and over.
He had no right saying any of that. He doesn't know your relationship. He doesn't love you.
"What's going on?" You asked, eyes wide as the door slammed. Eyebrow arching when you got a frustrated grunt in response. Watching as your boyfriend passed by you without a word.
Jaw locking and relaxing, he slowly turned to face you. Pushing down all the pent up emotion as he stepped forward and pulled you into his chest. Holding you tightly, as if your presence alone would soothe his mind. Would remind him of the future you two held.
As if your presence would help him grieve the loss of what could have been.
The coming days and weeks weighed on his heart and mind. The tight embraces, loving words and passing kisses providing temporary relief from the ache within his heart. The seed of doubt that Nate had planted continued growing below the surface. Thick roots growing and constricting, darkening what was once golden.
Thinking of Nate, he realized they hadn't spoken a word since the fight; radio silence for weeks on end wasn't a new occurrence. Radio silence following an argument , however, was.
Maybe he had a point.
Blinking hard, he pushed the thought out of his head. No. Loving you WAS enough.
You were his endgame, marriage or not. Nobody else knew him quite the way you did.
Nobody else would slip their arms around him and bury their face into his back when he was upset and in desperate need of extra love. Nobody would immediately remember where he dropped his keys off last when he had been searching for 10 minutes. Nobody would understand the inside jokes created on sleepless nights.
Nobody would be what you are to him. Nobody would be who he is to you.
"What's going on?" You asked him one afternoon, leaning against the doorway as he finished trimming his facial hair. Looking at you in the mirror, eyebrows raised, he shrugged.
"Seriously, you're acting off. I want to make sure you're okay." Biting the inside of his lip, he busied himself with grabbing a towel and drying his face. Making an active effort not to tense up when you rested a hand on his bare shoulder.
Playing the words over in his head, picking apart the sentences for anything that might cause offense he softly began. "I'm not saying you haven't made any sacrifices; you have. So many, and I owe you the world and everything in it."
Lip caught between teeth as he debated dropping the topic. Continuing to love you and the life he currently has, show that he's willing to sacrifice for your relationship too.
"I'm sensing a but, and a loaded one at that." You trailed off, pulling your hand back. Expression saturated with concern.
"But why is marriage the sacrifice you draw the line at? I can accept never raising children together, I can get over my parents not getting grandchildren from me. But marriage? A commitment between us to love the other person until our last breath. The one thing I want more than anything with you." Eyes now squeezed shut, internally cursing for how his voice broke halfway through.
"I've told you, I don't believe in marriage. I love you, I will always love you. Why do we have to bring the law into our relationship for it to be 'official'?" The airquotes around the word, and your calm demeanor broke the roots surrounding his heart. Allowing the internalized grief to spill.
"Because I'm giving up all my aspirations! I want kids, I want grandkids. I want to be married and live out our golden years in whatever house you want. I want to tell people you're my fiance, then my spouse. I'll even take your last name, if you'll give me this one thing." Voice raised, arms out to his sides as he studied your face. Begging, pleading, hoping to find any sort of remorse.
Instead you were unreadable, staring silently at him as he carded fingers through his hair. Shaking his head as he rushed out of the small bathroom. Grabbing his shirt from the foot of your shared bed, ignoring your protests from behind him.
Agony so loud it portrayed itself as anger. Tears streamed down his cheeks as he kept walking. Grabbing his phone and wallet off the counter before you managed to get in front of him.
"What? I don't want to get married to anyone and you leave? What the hell is going on, Alex? This isn't you!"
"It isn't. This life isn't me." He sighed, feeling pathetic. Hands shaking as he mustered up the courage to continue. "You can have the place, I'll find somewhere else and help with rent for the first bit if you need."
His gaze set to the floor, avoiding the pain in your face.
"I thought loving you was enough. And it is, except that we're at a fork in the road. Ending with you stuck in a life you hate, or I lose pieces of myself along the way. It's not fair to either of us, I want you to be happy. I want to continue being happy." He cleared his throat, ignoring how tight it got as he watched tears leave tracks on your cheeks. Lip quivering with sobs you held in your lungs.
Reaching a shaky hand out, you slipped your fingers through his. Clearly relieved when he shifted to hold your hand fully. His other palm resting on your cheek as he pressed a firm kiss to your hair, body shaking as he pulled away.
"I'm going to cool down for an hour; probably hit the gym or go for a run. Then we figure out our arrangements here." He nodded, sliding his thumb over your cheek as you sniffled.
When you nodded in agreement, he dropped your hand and made his way outside. Mind racing as he pulled his phone out of his pocket.
