Sorry, in my native language there are no gendered pronouns. We just have a singular he/she/they for everyone. I use he/him for me (despite being a woman) because it's what rolls off the tongue easier for me. For everyone else I use they/them because you can never go wrong with neutral.

Are you actually attracted to nunalastor?

Honestly, the only time I've experienced attraction (i think? Still unsure if it was that) was with one girl at my uni and the feeling I have for nunalastor is very similar. It's not the exact kinda feeling but I have a very strong desire to make them proud. Not sure exactly what it is but no, I don't want to actually fuck them and I don't want to kiss them either. If you're actually worried about what you've heard is cultural ap/propriation, consider this instead: Did you know you're listening to a rumor that originated with sysmeds who tell you that a directly researchable, blatantly open religion is closed, deny and call into question spiritual leaders' words on what meditations can be shared, and have NEVER EVER been able to produce an example of harm NOR of someone who's both a Tibetan Buddhist and NOT a sysmed bigot that says it is harmful? (We have asked and gotten answers, by the way.) Anyways, if you're neutral about this or actually trying to learn, do research. Don't let sysmeds with a savior complex dictate what's harmful. Y'know...

I'm kinda getting just...burnt out, man. I don't know what it is, but the fanfic community these last few years has just been really difficult to engage with. There are a lot of reasons, but I think among the biggest is this: (warning: long vent incoming):

So. I've been writing fanfic for...gosh, fourteen years now. And back in the day, we had our fair share of problems, I won't lie. Now I came in after the major flame wars of the '00s, but still, there were the shipping wars and the shit-stirrers and the people who took other people having a different opinion on their faves WAY too personally.

But! There were rules of engagement. People might not have always followed them, but back then you could say to someone, "hey, you're not behaving in the way we all agree people should behave in this space. You're being a jerk." And people would either lose their shit at you and you'd block them, or they'd apologize and not do the rude thing moving forward.

This went especially for new writers/readers. They'd make a mistake, people would inform them, and they wouldn't make the mistake again moving forward. That was how we built a health community back then.

*Now: a disclaimer. I know not all new fans are like this, and to those of you who do listen when people inform you of the etiquette of fandom spaces, I want to give a sincere thank-you. The following does not apply to you.

However, and not to be an old woman yelling at the kids to get off her lawn, but:

I see people trying, politely, to tell newcomers the basic rules of engagement for how to interact in fandom. "Don't complain about things that are clearly marked in the summary or tags." "Do not get into dumb shipping wars. Ship and let ship." "Don't leave harsh or unasked-for concrit." "Don't demand updates in the comments."

And instead of saying "Oh wow, sorry, I didn't know about that, I'll do better next time"—I see some new folks responding with things like "Well this just makes me NEVER want to comment/engage/participate!"

And writers are so scared of not getting ANY engagement in this landscape of already dwindling comments and reblogs—or worse, ruining things for other writers—that they immediately capitulate and say oh, we're sorry, we shouldn't have told you you were being rude, please don't stop commenting on fics, we were in the wrong.

And I'm here to say: No. Enough! It is our job as the older citizens of this space to set the expectations for community behavior. If the new arrivals get mildly embarrassed for being politely informed (key words there) that they've committed a faux pas, then that's okay! It's a growing experience. Learning how to be polite in new social settings isn't traumatizing them or causing them emotional harm. They will survive the couple seconds of embarrassment, and then they will go on to be kinder and more conscientious citizens of the digital landscape.

Now, if you're a newcomer who is intimidated by people telling you the rules of etiquette in fandom spaces:

Look. I get it. I was new to fandom once, and I know that that can be intimidating! But sometimes there are going to be situations where you will be new to a social setting and have to awkwardly feel things out, and you will make mistakes and be corrected by others. That's just part of life. Thankfully, fandom is a space where folks have really tried to cultivate clear rules of engagement and want to hand it on to new people! There are guides on the "ao3 etiquette" tag of how to leave polite comments and interact in fandom, and there are lots of people who will help you learn the ropes if you ask them nicely.

I promise you, you have the ability to learn the rules of social etiquette in this online space. You will be able to emotionally withstand the minor embarrassment; all of us have before you, and you will too. And if you are not able to emotionally handle someone politely taking you aside and informing you that you're making some social mistakes and how to fix them, then you are not mature enough to participate in fandom spaces.

Now, for folks who've read this far and would like some quick tips on fandom etiquette, here they are. Remember, none of this advice is meant as a criticism, and if you've done some of these things without knowing better, then that's okay, we all make mistakes! This is simply to help us all have a good time in this space and build each other up as readers and writers!

"Don't like, don't read." — The most important rule of fandom. If you come across a fanfic that has something in the summary or the tags that you don't like, then do not click on that fic. If you do choose to read it anyway, you have no right to blame the author for your reading something you didn't enjoy.

"Dead Dove: Do Not Eat." — A more extreme version of "Don't like, don't read," this means that there is content in the fic that most people would find disgusting, frightening or morally objectionable. Do not read that story if you do not want to read that sort of content.

"Ship and let ship." — Other people will like different ships or romantic pairings of characters than you do. Their doing so is not an insult to you or to the characters in question. If you do not want to engage with stories/fanart/etc. of that ship, then do not read those fics, and block those tags here on Tumblr. Do not go onto other people's fics/art/etc. and tell them that they are wrong for liking that ship (This includes if you find the ship morally objectionable; see "DL:DR" and "DD:DNE" above.)

Tagging – If you are a writer, make sure to tag your story appropriately. This includes the romantic ships (indicated with a slash, / ) and the friendship ships (indicated with an & or the word "and"). It also includes things like graphic depictions of violence, non-consensual or dubiously consensual sexual content, characters who are under the age of eighteen engaging in sexual situations, and major character death. It also includes "Dead Dove: Do Not Eat" (see above), which you should include as a tag if you have content in your fic that the majority of people would find disgusting, frightening or morally objectionable.

Rating – Make sure to rate your story appropriately. If there is explicit sexual content or graphic violence in your story, it should be rated as "mature" or "explicit." Do not label it as "teen" or "general" (or K, K+ or T on FF.net). If there is any sexual content or more-than-cartoon-violence in your story, it should not be rated as "general" (or K or K+).

Bookmarking — Be aware that unless you set the bookmark to "private," the author can read any comments or tags you leave on the bookmark.

Commenting — Almost all writers love comments, and many writers depend on comments for their motivation to continue a story. Leaving comments is both a great way to show a writer that you enjoy their story, as well as provide the writer with motivation to keep writing! A comment can be as elaborate as you like and list every detail you loved about the story, or as simple as "this was good, I really liked it!" Either of those is fine. Keyboard smashes are also fine, as are emojis if you're too shy to write a full comment.

Commenting on Older Stories — Is absolutely fine, and in fact highly appreciated!

Demanding an Update — Do not, however, demand that a writer update quickly or ask them when the next chapter will be. Writers are doing this for free, and demanding an update is considered impolite at best and guilt-tripping at worst. (Examples: saying "This is really good, excited for more!" is fine, since this does not put a timed expectation on the writer. Saying "This is really good, when is the next update!" is considered mildly impolite, and simply writing "Update" is considered highly rude. It is seen as demanding another free gift right after you've received one.)

Concrit/Constructive Criticism — Different writers' mileage will vary on how much they like constructive criticism, so best practice is to check their author's notes, summary, or author page to see if they say they are okay with concrit. If they do not say so, then default to assuming they don't want concrit.

If you do provide constructive criticism, make sure to include at least two compliments as well (preferably more). State the criticism politely and briefly.

Also, be aware that an author might disagree with your advice and choose not to take it. This is not a slight against you personally, and you should not treat it as such.

Do not offer criticism that is not meant to be constructive or help the author grow in their writing skills.

Do not offer "constructive criticism" about you disliking things the author has clearly tagged or noted in the summary. That is not constructive criticism, that is just flaming. (See "DL:DR" above.)

And finally: Never Ascribe to Maliciousness What Can Be Attributed To Ignorance. — If someone is rude to you, remember that they might be new to the space and not be aware of the rules of etiquette. Politely inform them that they've screwed up, and assume that everyone is well-intentioned until they prove otherwise.

And there you have it! By following the above advice, you can help to build up a thriving fan culture of happy writers and happy readers. Remember, we're all here to enjoy our favorite works together and create fan content for them, so let's all work together to create a pleasant digital space for one another. :)

Pretending that it's not literally a fucking systemic problem here on Tumblr that whump blogs fill disability tags with this kind of fucking bullshit that's literally just fetishizing disabled people. Pretending that it's either my fault somehow or that I'm just making it all up. As though many disabled people haven't been fucking talking about this shit nonstop.

I still love the fact that this person literally sees me saying that specifically my physical disabilities are the ones being fucking targeted here and this person decide to respond with "oh well lots of whump writers are autistic and have ADHD so that makes it okay :)"

Imagine saying with a straight face that there has never ever been a problem with wump blogs invading disability tags. The world's fastest way to say that you never fucking talk to physically disabled people ever in your life.

It won't suck (we have each other)

Summary: Kenny isn't really the type to make promises, and Kyle isn't really the type to keep them either.

Warnings: Angst, hurt/comfort, pseudo-immortality, implied suicide, check Ao3 port for full tags.

Authors Note: okay so maybe this a little bit too angsty for day one, promise that tomorrows is a lot lighter than this. Day ones prompt was engagement/promise, and I chose promise, hope ya'll enjoy, and if ya do maybe consider dropping a reblog or checking out the Ao3 port and leaving a comment

"Kenny, I'd do anything for you," Kyle said, reaching for his can of ginger ale once more.

"You'd do anything for me?" Kenny asked tentatively.

Kyle glanced over to Kenny with a raised brow, "Yeah just about."

"Promise me that if I want to die, you'll kill me," Kenny said bluntly, forcing it out of his throat as fast as he could. Sheer shock washed over Kyle at the notions of killing Kenny, he, he knew he would come back. He'd die by the end of the week anyways, Kyles throat was dry, he was having a hard time forming an answer.

"What?" The word came out cracked and weak.

Kenny glanced to the ground, tapping cut nails along the aluminum of his can. "Nothing."

"Bullshit," Kyle answered with, spitting the word was he spoke, "Why the fuck would you make me promise that?"

Kenny stayed silent, tentatively reaching to raise his parka hood.

Kyles brought his hands to push it back down and Kenny looked absolutely ashamed of himself. Regret played itself on his face with ease, he just wanted to hide. Kyles expression softened, "Kenny," He spoke quietly, voice a calm tenor. He used to sing soprano, it'd be a shock to anyone who didn't know him when he was a kid.

Kenny didn't speak, refusing to look Kyle in the eyes.

"Why would you ask me to promise that?" Kyle asked gently.

Still, Kenny refused to say a thing.

A gentle grasp came to tilt his chin and lean him to face Kyle, "Kenny, please tell me."

"Shit sucks ass sometimes okay?!" Kenny snapped, words escaping him roughly and he hated how mad he sounded because he really wasn't.

He just didn't like to talk about it, it was like a fresh wound and every word was simply salt or lemon juice being thrown into it. He edged away from Kyle and took a swig of his drink, he shuffled awkwardly until he was pressed against the arm rest of the couch. He placed down his empty can and reached to grab an unopened one, he cracked it open with practiced ease. The fizzing sound was the only thing that filled the silence.

Kenny heaved a heavy sigh, "Sorry for snapping at you like that."

Kyle didn't respond, scouring his mind for the right words.

"I, I'll leave, I've already had way too much of your guys food," Kenny said as he stood up, reaching for his hood and flipping it up, "What a fucking waste letting me have some."

Kyle was still paralyzed because his best friend, his immortal best friend, wanted to die. And he wanted Kyle to do whatever it took to kill him and make sure he stays dead.

"See you at school," Kenny said as he tugged up his zipper a little bit, starting on his way to the door. He tried his very hardest to keep his voice even because he just bared his soul and he isn't even given a response, "Bye Kyle."

"Wait," Kyle begins to the best of his ability, and Kenny doesn't. He opts to meander over to Kenny, "Kenny wait."

Kenny doesn't respond aside from a partially muffled, "I'm going home."

A hand latches onto his wrist and Kenny freezes entirely, turning to glare down Kyle. His eyes are watering, and his voice shatters as he speaks, "Yeah?"

"Can you," Kyle takes a steadying breath, "Can you tell me more? Before we come to like, a full promise?"

"Sure," Kenny managed to choke out, "Totally bro."

"Wanna talk about it in my room, or on the couch?" Kyle asked as gently as he could manage.

"When are your parents coming back?" Kenny asked, voice wavering just a little bit more.

Kyle glanced to the clock, "Couple hours, it's plenty of time."

"Couch," Kenny said quietly before being tugged over to the aforementioned furniture gently.

Kyle sat down on one side of the couch and Kenny on the other, his full can of soda pop still fizzled. No matter how parched he felt he refused to grab it and take a sip, he already had one, that's plenty.

"You know how sometimes I don't come to school?" Kenny asked, voice muffled by the thick orange fabric layers of his parka, Kyle still understood him perfectly.

"Yeah, totally man," Kyle said, "Usually on testing day."

Kenny nodded, he pushed off his parka a little bit, hand resting tentatively at his neck. He pressed at where the rope once rested, pulled tighter and tighter, "I sort of, took the easiest way out of school- don't use nooses by the way, they suck."

Kyle just gave a vague gesture for him to continue.

"And like, guns are too loud, don't use them unless everyone is out of the house," Kenny said, a nervous chuckle on his voice, "I'm getting off track- sometimes I want to die for a day, a whole twenty four hours. Spend some time in the afterlife you know, me and Damien play chess you know? He's shit at it honestly-"

"Kenny, focus," Kyle said, the slightest hint of agitation on his voice.

"Right, shit, sorry," Kenny answered with, rambling out apologies. He absently reached for the can of pop, he retracted his hand, "Basically, I like being dead sometimes, but I don't always wanna do it."

"And you want me to do it for you?" Kyle asked, he got a nod in response.

"Yeah, pretty much," Kenny said.

"Text me when it happens and I'll be there," Kyle said, holding out a hand.

Kenny took it in a shake, "Thanks man."

"No problem bro," Kyle said as calmly as he could manage.

He almost felt bad about crossing his fingers.

The message came at four in the morning and Kyle barely dragged himself out of slumber to respond to check it. The simple, and easy 'Kyle.' properly capitalized and with a punctuation mark. Kenny never used capitalization, or sent short messages, or used punctuation-

Wait.

That's the call, that's the signal. They should've agreed on one beforehand but Kyle can't think of what else it could be. He types back a quick 'omw' as he gets out of bed as quietly as possible. He tugs on his slippers and types out a 'hang tight' before grabbing his jacket and making his way to the door.

He pauses, he'd get caught if he's too loud. He glances to his window, is he really gonna go trek on over to Kennys house in negative temperatures with slippers on? No, he absolutely is not- he wants to pull Kenny out of it but he is not chancing losing his toes to frostbite.

He pushes his bedroom door open as quietly as he can manage before slowly shutting it once more. Urgency laces his slowed actions in a pathetic attempt to stay quiet, he leans his weight on the boards that don't creak. He slides on his boots as fast as he can and fastens the buckles, he barely grabs his hat on the way out.

Please wait, please wait, please wait.

He sees stray dogs as he speed walks down the icy road, he forgot his mittens at the door. He stuffs his hands in his pockets.

Please wait, please wait, please wait.

Maybe he should've grabbed a coffee on the way out, he'll definitely fall asleep in the middle of class today. He fumbles uselessly for the one piece of snack food in his pockets and tears open the packing.

Please wait, please wait, please wait.

He traverses through the barbed wire and broken bottles in Kennys backyard to reach his window. He taps on the glass and hopes it doesn't crack more.

God fuck, Kenny please wait.

The window slides in and he's instantly hit with relief like it's a semi-truck. He climbs in and drops down finding Kenny clearly on the verge of tears and holding out a knife. Kyle takes it and throws it out the window, before Kenny can answer with a loud what the fuck?! a hand is placed over his mouth. He only glares.

"Do you want to wake up your parents?" Kyle asked in a hushed tone.

Kenny shook his head.

"I am going to remove my hand you're gonna talk quietly, and stand still or sit on your bed," Kyle instructed, "Understood?"

Kenny nodded and Kyle removed his hand.

The McCormick instantly made his way to sit down on his bed, it was a crappy bed, one or two springs stuck through the fabric and cushioning but they were covered in blankets and pillows. He laid down on his side and Kyle quietly walked over and sat down behind him.

"You said you would do anything for me," Kenny got out quietly, his voice cracked.

"Almost anything," Kyle corrected, "Wanna talk about it?"

Kenny shook his head viciously.

"Wanna just sit here?" Kyle asked.

"I want to die, and stay dead," Kenny said bluntly, "Can't do that though, weird ass fucking curse."

Kyle paused, "I'm not killing you."

"Yeah, you threw out the knife, and the gun broke and there's no rope," Kenny said bitterly as he rolled over to curl into Kyle, a couple tears sliding down his face, "I'm sorry."

"Dude, it's fine," Kyle said, drumming his fingers on Kennys forearm, "Totally fine."

"I'll make it through the day," Kenny said as he rolled back off of Kyle who stood up.

"So, my work here is done?" Kyle asked, stepping dangerously close to the window.

"Can you stay for a bit longer?" Kenny asked as he propped himself on his elbows.

Kyle launched himself back onto Kennys bed, the frame creaked in dismay at the suddenness. He wore a grin, "Of course my good sir."

Kenny gave a small smile, "Thanks."

Kyle held open his arms and leaned on Kenny before squeezing him tight, "Thanks for calling me over."

"I'd rather be dead right now," Kenny said dismissively and Kyle let go of him, "I didn't say stop."

"I won't," Kyle said, returning to smothering Kenny in a hug, squeezing the air out of him, "Love you bro."

"Pretty gay," Kenny said, drawing out the 'E' as he spoke.

"So are you," Kyle answered with, bringing up a thumb to wipe away the few tears on Kennys face.

I'm tired of being silent.

Before I continue, I'm making this fully clear. Fictives of Shaw are okay to interact my blog. I don't blame you for being anxious, but I understand you can't control your source, and that's understandable.

In my last post that this is a continuation of, I forgot to put the evidence of daisybellejpeg saying these type of shit on other places along with the other claims listen, so I will post them here.

I also forgot to include that there is also erasure of the Jewish parts of the Bright family while making Shaw, making him and his family Hispanic. It really just rubs me the wrong way to replace a marginalized group with another one, but that is just my personal opinion.

This thread of evidence is mostly in regard to Daisy, as you can find other allegations against DJK in things I have reblogged in the past. Mostly everyone else is censored to prevent harassment.

In regards to someone's plagiarism concerns with Shaw being the same name as a copyrighted character, then their response to someone being concerned about the rewrite of Bright to Shaw would erase the character being Jewish.

Response to a person with DID being triggered by Shaw, and then proceeding to make fun of said person on Twitter.

Daisy acting like introjects can control their source which shows a lack of understanding that should be there when you have friends with DiD.

Making 963 interpretations is one thing, but talking shit of people who use Bright and don't support AB is just fucking disrespectful. Same for people raising concerns of your interpretation and responding in a distasteful manner. You just don't fucking do that. You don't be disrespectful to people for thing you can't control.

MARTIN: "Or – (pause for a huffed laugh) Or it is, and she just cleaned it up really well." JON: (small exhale) "Yes." MARTIN: "Are we? – Are we… safe here?" JON: (sigh) "Safe as anywhere. If Elias wanted to find us, I imagine he could, but – I doubt the police will be able to. If nothing else, I’m hoping there’d be some – jurisdiction complications, in Scotland?" I always love how there just happens to be a conversation that tells us where they are (or what object this is about etc.)

MARTIN: "And if she does?" JON: (exhale) "Well. At least we’ll know where she is." And here's the information that we lost Daisy :( Gone full Hunt.

Do you know how long it took me to realize these are not the statements Basira sent xD I thought Elias smuggled his statement to the obvious stack of statements in the Archives and Basira grabbed it with the others and sent that... Yeah, it does make a lot more sense for Elias to simply watch Basira and then express-mail his own welcome-back package.

MARTIN: "– I will give you some privacy. Go for a walk." JON: (exhale) "Let me know if you see any good cows." MARTIN: "Obviously I’m going to tell you if I see any good cows." Famous last words... Love how it sounds there has been something going on with them defining "good cows". Already told this little story in the tags of one of the MAG 160 art reblogs: last year my spouse said they're going for a walk and I know there's a route past a field of highland cattle. So I asked them where they're going and it was this exact route! Of course I asked them to tell me if they see any good cows xD The world didn't end and I got a photo of highland cows!

Overall impression of these two scenes: Their conversations are so normal... They really are okay here. At least, how far we can tell from what little we have. I'm sure I already said this in one of my relisten posts, I think it's really good for the fandom to have so little. Yeah, of course I would have loved more fluff, but by keeping this so short, there's sooo much we fans can imagine happening here. TMA has a lot of this, referencing vaguely what happened, but keeping it open for us to explore that. This is actually also very good for the horrors in the show. It’s a genre I respond very well to. Keeping it vague, let my mind do the rest. Fucking love this shit.

JON: "Right. Statement of Hazel Rutter regarding a fire in her childhood home. Original statement given August 9th, 1992." OMG, I remember exactly, what my reaction to this was. I was like "What bullshit statement for a season finale is that supposed to be???"

Also, I always forget it's Jon reading this statement because Jonny's impression of Ben's Elias is sooo good! So this is Jonny pretending to be Ben pretending to be Elias by copying Jonny pretending to be Jon, all while still pretending to be Jon... I hope that makes sense... Also I used this sentence one time for a friend! She doesn't really like horror because she's easily scared, but she did listen to all of TMA for me. And I had a very cool and really creepy nightmare which just happened to include one of my cats and I wanted to tell her what happened in this nightmare. But it was also almost midnight and I knew she just wouldn't read my text if she immediately had recognized it as a nightmare. So I started to retell it by focusing on my cat only to hit her with the creepy stuff in the last sentence. She texted me "I hate u" back xD and a week later we talked about this via Twitch chat during a stream of our friend’s and she was like "I thought it was a cute cat dream!" and I answered "Yeah, I knew you would stop reading if it would have been too obvious... Hello *friend's name*. Apologies for the deception but I wanted to make sure you started reading..." We both laughed so much xD

So uh, I already made a post about this once, but I'm putting that thought in here again. The case numbers of the statements are always in the episode descriptions (here 0181810 - a palindrome!!! - 18th October 2018). These case numbers always refer to the date the statement was first given, either written or recorded directly. This is a written statement, so teeeeeechnically 18th October was the day Jonah wrote this statement, and not the day Jon read it. I do think this one episode is an exception of this rule, but hear me out for a moment: If 18th October was only the day Jonah wrote this, this could mean for Jmart to have more time for their Scottish honeymoon!!!

"And there, I think, we are brought just about up to date." I have listened to the episode starting this sentence soooo many times!

Ahhh, the soundscaping during the incantation is so good!

JON: (still distorted, with shaking laughter/tears) "Look at the sky, Martin. Look at the sky. It’s looking back." [AND NOW HE DOES BEGIN TO LAUGH IN EARNEST. IT’S NOT A LAUGH WE’VE HEARD ON HIM BEFORE; NOT A SHORT, CLIPPED LAUGH; NOT A SURPRISE BURST OF GENUINE HILARITY. THIS LAUGH SEEMS AFRAID, AND YET COLD. IT’S REMINISCENT OF ELIAS’S VILLAINOUS LAUGH, BUT IS TINGED MORE WITH FEAR THAN SATISFACTION.] [HE DOES NOT STOP LAUGHING.] That was it. I thought now he lost it. Completely. I was asking myself if he could pull it together next season, or if he'll be full crazy monster. And I totally felt that shock of “Oh no, this really happened. Everything is ruined. How can this progress? How can this every be undone??” I really, reaaally felt Jon and Martin’s (mostly Martin’s perhaps) emotions there at the end...

A few random thoughts at the end here, while I don't remember my surroundings listening to this episode. I remember being in the bedroom at the end of this episode. Like specifically that thought of Jon "going crazy".

I think it's funny how MAG 160 fanart is either super sweet Jmart or total devastation of the world ending. And memes. Lot’s of memes.

Fun fact: My father in law finished S4 today as well!!! He never struck me to be a person who'd be doing a relisten, which I found a bit sad because there is so much to discover in a relisten. BUT he said he's thinking about doing a relisten right now already xD This episode is always my most anticipated one when wanting friends and family live-blog their experience to me xD

Since the queer post is going around, I want to send an ask thanking you for making me realize something. (It's not about the word queer; I've always been vehemently pro-queer--but that's another topic.) There was something in that post about how someone reblogged your post with rude tags and had a MOGAI/SJW/etc. DNI in their blog. And in the post, you made it clear you just blocked them and moved on. You respected their DNI.

I don't know why it didn't hit me to respect people's wishes even when I so vehemently believe they're wrong, even when they might be sorta-directly sorta-indirectly rude to me on the internet. Logically and without emotions, I know nothing good could come of it. At best, it would be nothing but an unmemorable interaction for that person, but at worst, but I might solidify their views I'm trying to change.

But that part almost doesn't even matter. It doesn't matter if I could change their mind. What matters is that they have asked me not to interact. If I truly want to respect them in a way that I think is so essential, I need to be able to not interact with people, even when my brain is screaming at me to.

I can't explain why this was an eye-opening moment for me. Maybe it was because you were so upset (and with good reason) and you still chose to respect them. Maybe it was because you didn't back down from your anger over it, you didn't invalidate your own feelings--you just recognized they had the right to their own.

It's hard to explain, because it's not like that urge to yell at these people has gone away. But now I feel an understanding for why it's so fundamentally wrong and against what I believe in. I can't force people to interact with me if I disagree with them. The best I can do is curate my own space online, and take the opportunities when people with differing opinions are actually willing and open to talking to me.

Anyway. Thank you for the post. Both for being so loudly pro-queer and for helping me realize being respectful isn't about being right, it's about understanding.

Honestly, it's not about respecting their DNI. I don't really read DNIs on people who begin interaction with me - if someone talks to me, I'm not going to check and see if it's okay for me to answer them. But like... if I happen to see it, and someone is interacting with me despite their own DNI, or is pulling that whole, uhhh... "I'm talking to you, but don't you dare respond to me or you are violating my DNI," I block them because that shit is tiresome, I'm 45 years old, and I really just don't have enough hours left on this earth to indulge that kind of trifling nonsense.

They have their right to their feelings, yes. Everyone has the right to be a dick if they really want to, for that matter. Whether their feelings are genuine or they are just being a dick about it all, I just don't have time for fussing over it. They're strangers on the internet who think my identity is a word too bad to use.

I really don't know if I'm as understanding as you paint me to be, that is to say. But thank you?
