(more…) “”

In a conscious effort to change a big part of myself, as well as use up all items I currently have, here are the notebooks I’m still taking with me in the next year.
You can see the individual planners/notebooks/journals list here on my Instagram. Happy holidays, and happy almost new year!

Honestly still just incredibly happy I’ve been able to consistently write and fill in my hobonichi so far this year. I haven’t missed a week and it’s been helping me feel like I have a grasp on what I’ve been doing with my time.

#今日のできごと 外出した先に #ロフト があったので、2024年用の #ほぼ日手帳 を買ってきた。 お仕事用の #week とメモ用の #オリジナル 。 公式で買えばペンをいただけるけど、見ての通り、溜まっている(出すのがめんどくて。これより前のも10本以上ある)ので、ロフトで買ってきたわけ。
が、ここまでくると公式で買ってペンを増やすのもアリか…って気になってる。 #spring は通販で買うかな。

(Note: What Sero is saying here is that one time Shouto had this look on his face that is described by the Japanese slang word: gangimari. Gangimari refers to an intense, eyes-wide face that comes from a marijuana high. It also refers to a feeling of emptiness that comes with the high. If you search for images of the face, you'll see it's often a frightening look. I believe Sero here is referring to the face Shouto makes at him in their sports festival battle in chapter 34, so I believe this description is meant to refer to how Shouto was overwhelmed with anger and mentally somewhat removed from the fight itself.)

- HISTORY OF JAPANESE ARCHEOLOGY AND SCIENTIFIC THOUGHT. Chapter 3 : Welcome, Japanesearchaeologicalists, to a new installment of Japanese archaeology, seen from a philosophical point of view. Having said that, get comfortable and let's begin. - In 1868 Japan did not have a scientific base per se as we can see in Europe or the United States, it will be after the Boshin War of 1868-69 when Japan opened its mentality or part of it, since a good part of the population was very conservative because Countries like the United States would model Japanese sciences. When did interest in antiques arise in Japan? It is known that in the Edo period there was already interest in antiquities, something similar happened in Europe a long time ago. The beginning of the Japanese excavations began almost at the end of the 19th century, a few years ago some Roman coins were discovered in Japan, apparently a feudal lord in Japan liked to collect antiquities, they probably arrived from some port in China to the coasts Japanese. - The desire to know the past is something that all human beings share, no matter what continent you belong to and the same can be said about the era in question. When the different powers from Europe and the United States arrived in Japan, they influenced its inhabitants, thus we have, among other characters, Edward Morse, considered by the Japanese, the father of Japanese archaeology. During the 19th century we have one of the greatest schools of American philosophy, Taylorism, which will influence one of the greatest figures of Japanese archeology Torii Ryūzō who will carry out archaeological excavations in Taiwan, establishing relations with China and Korea. - I hope you liked it and see you in future posts, have a good week.

こんにちは!! みんなは元気?私はまあまあ。
I know I said I would post over the summer but I didn't. ごめん!
この夏は忙しいですが、ちょっとつまらなかった。たくさん働きたり、運転したり、ビデオゲームをした。たくさん原神インパクトをした。原神が一番好きです。
あのう、あまり日本語は勉強しなかった。韓国語と中国語も。仕事の後、疲れていた。ごめんなさい。今学期、がんばりましょう!
あのう、昨日の夜、ご飯を作ったのですが、どろどろでした。おいしくなかった。
I know we're a bit in the semester already but I missed the first two weeks because of some family stuff and I was playing catch up when I got back. i've just been so busy with work, school, clubs, etc. and then i was going through relationship drama, and was pretty depressed due to that and overworking myself BUT I will try my best to summarize what we've learned so far. 自分が大丈夫だ。(と思います。)
The major grammar points we've learned so far are
たい/たがっています
たりする
ほうがいいです
んです
すぎる
~ので
お/ご+verb stem+します
can't forget to mention the crap ton of kanji and vocab we have to learn on the daily 😀
you know the drill.... lets go over the grammar!!
So たいです/たくないですadds on to the verb stem and it means want/desire for something
I want to eat = (私は)食べたい(です)。(were gonna keep things casual)
i want to drink alcohol = お酒を飲みたい。
I want to skip class = 授業(じゅぎょう)をサボりたい。
I want to climb Mt. Fuji = 富士山(ふじさん)に登(のぼ)りたい。
I want to make a cake = ケーキを作りたい。
I dont want to learn Japanese = 日本語を習いたくない。
(for negative sentences, instead of い you put the くない。)it's the same for いadjectives so im not gonna cover it much. I think you guys can figure it out. (I believe in you!)
Pretty simple. ます form but put たい instead. EZ PEEZEE
Similarly is たがっている。 that's used when you talk about what someone else wants. If I remember correctly, my teacher told us that expressing your wants is childish in Japanese culture? I think it was something like that but i'll have to fact check that.
So, Tanaka wants to work at the library. = 田中さんは図書館で働きたがっている。
You set it up as if your about to say たい but instead of い, you say がっている。もっと練習しましょう。
母は写真を撮りたがっている。It seems my mom would like to take a picture. Both the tanaka example and mom example are correct. They pretty much mean the same thing.
Uno mas
山下先生は風邪(かぜ)をひきたがっていない。Prof. Yamashita doesnt want to catch a cold. (i looked online and through every paper I had and none specified if I used いません or some other way so were gonna go with this for now.
Again, easy peasy. Moving on.
たりする is used to list events. Its similar to ~て、but て is more like exact events. たり is used to describe things you did without explaining everything, if that makes sense
パリとダブリンに行ったり、買い物をしたりした。= I did things like go to Paris and Dublin and go shopping.
ケーキを作ったり、 本を読んだりした。
たり is in past て form!!
たり implies you did more than JUST going there and shopping. 分かる?instead of たい,you change the い to り and then when you finished the sentence, you can do たりする、たりした、たりします、たりしました、たりするのは/が。。。です~~~ and so forth.
ほうがいいです is should/should not do. Its also called “its better to do…”
You should do something: past+ほうがいいです(ね/よ)
You should not do something: present negative+ほうがいいです(ね/よ)
Por ejemplo,
You should not exercise - うんどうしないほうがいいです。
You should sing - 歌ったほうがいいです。
You should no go out tonight - 今夜出かけないほうがいいです。
You should take medicine - くすりを飲んだほうがいいです。
Its kinda confusing cause theres also どっちのほうがいいですか。which we learned last semester but i guess mean the same thing. “Its better if you do xyz”,,,, “which is better?”
We can then pair this up with んです
Lowkey, im an んです hater. Its purpose it to “add emotion”
For present verbs you do dictionary form + んです ー 食べる>食べるんです。
For past verbs you do short て form + んです ー 食べた>食べたんです。
For positive い adjectives, you simply add the んです after the い。 ー かわいい>かわいいんです
For negative present  い adjectives, you negate it normally and then have the んです the ない ー かわいくない>かわいくないんです
For negative past い adjectives you negate it normallly かわいくなかった and simply add the the んです>かわいくなかったんです。
For な adjectives, you add なんです。元気なんです、好きなんです、にぎやかなんです。
For past な adectives, its just 元気だったんです、すきだったんです、にぎやかだったんです。
The short form of でした.
I feel like its pretty self explanatory.
Lets combine んです and ほうがいいです
A: ああ、あたまがいたいんです…
B:じゃあ、水を飲んだほうがいいです。
See?! Super easy!
I’m kinda running out of time so I’ll leave it at that for now. I also don't want this to get too long. Next post will have すぎる、~ので、and お/ご and then after that I’ll finally tell you all about my summer and things happening in my life lately!! I'm so happy to finally be posting again. I've missed you, reader-chan. I finally have someone to talk to TT
じゃあ、また明日!!!<3
今日の歌はKumi Koda - Guess Who Is Backです。(I remember listening to this song when I was a freshman in highschool. maybe it was middle school...ah, the memories..)
Notice any errors? Lmk!! I always want to fix my mistakes so I can learn better. ありがとう!

Welcome to my first study log update of the year! The year is still fresh and I'm happy to report that my motivation is still high. I find that making these study logs to track my progress I can maintain my motivation throughout the year, even during times where life and work get really busy and I think I won't have as much time for study. So, let's start this off!
今年の初勉強記録へようこそ!新年はまだ新鮮のに勉強のモチベーションはまだ高くて頑張っています。この勉強記録を作るのは勉強のモチベーションの一つになります。一年中に書くと、モチベーションが下がったり、忙しくなったりするときでもやる気が出ます。それで、今から1月の記録を始めます!
My 2023 Goals Progress
I laid out some broad goals for my Japanese study in my 2023 Japanese Language Goals post. This is my first report on the progress I've made on these goals during the month of January!
1. Read one page a day of 日本の歴史366 (にほんのれきし366) everyday in 2023.
Since it's only a page to read, and the subject is history, I make time to read the page (and look up the vocabulary I don't know ^^) every day.
2. Finish 日本語総まとめ N3 (にほんごそうまとめ N3) workbooks.
The JLPT N3 workbooks I am using are a bit more involved, so I can't do the work daily, but when I do have the time (about once a week or so) I sit down and go through the Vocabulary, Kanji, Grammar, and Listening workbooks all at once.
3. Review and learn the first 6 levels of the 常用漢字 (じょうようかんじ), specifically the 教育漢字 (きょういくかんじ) up to grade 6.
Lately, I have been focusing more on new kanji rather than kanji review of the 常用漢字, but in February I will return my focus to the grade 2 kanji I was reviewing previously.
4. Read at least one book every two months.
I think I might have taken on too much in January, as I have been trying to finish up a book I started in December, then I picked up a new book and a new manga in the beginning of this year. I am going through the new book page-by-page and recording any words or I don't know, which is taking up a lot of time. I doubt I will finish it this month, but once I am done with it I think I will have learned a lot of new vocabulary.
5. Improve my speaking and writing by finding a tutor.
I have put this goal on hold because of work, but when things calm down in April I plan to search for a tutor and make a weekly tutoring schedule. I plan to use italki because it is the most popular platform.
6. Study Japanese for at least 10 minutes a day.
This goal has been a habit of mine since the beginning of 2022, and I am glad to see that I have been keeping up with it so far in 2023. I have a basic tracker set up in Notion, and this inspires me to do something every day so that I have something to record. I've also picked up a heat map tracker from No zero days in 2023 langblr challenge which provides another visual method for tracking my daily study.
These methods help me to be very mindful with my studying, which is what 2023 is all about for me!

January Study Log
Reading - I have started off strong with reading, although I've probably taken on more reading material than I have time for. Books I am currently reading:
コンビニ人間 - finishing from December (22% done)
満月珈琲店の星詠み - started Jan. 1st (15% done)
花野井くんと恋の病 (manga) - started Jan. 1st (30% done)
Vocabulary & Kanji - A lot of my vocab & kanji comes from my reading and making a vocab/kanji list from the 満月珈琲店 book I'm reading, but I also try to do vocabulary & kanji flash cards on a daily basis.
Vocabulary & Kanji flash cards (renshuu.org)
言葉で遊ぼう (Japanese wordle)
Listening - Primarily conversational listening with family and friends, or TV/movies, but with some 総まとめ workbook listening sprinkled in. I'd like to do some focused JLPT listening practice soon!
Grammar - Grammar videos are one of the best ways for me to study since they are about 15 minutes each and I take hand-written notes. This month I finished up the Nihongo no Mori JLPT N3 grammar videos!

I would like to build upon the momentum I created this month, and while I'd like to continue with the routine I have right now, I would like to add in a few other things to try to mix things up and keep studying interesting.
Continue with the six primary goals I made at the beginning of 2023
Try focusing on a different skill category each month (January has been focused primarily on Reading - I'd like to focus on Listening in February)
Try out a new app - I've downloaded a few different apps that I would like to try out in some detail
Refocus my kanji study on 常用漢字
I hope your language learning journey in 2023 is everything you want it to be! Best of luck everyone ^.^
皆さん、2023年の勉強を努力しましょうね!とても生産的な一年になりますように ^.^

Techo Kaigi 2024 Pt. 2 - TWL's Hobonichis
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Happy New Year! Sharing my 2024 Hobonichis as addition to my Techo Kaigi post last time. I'll show you how I use my 2024 Hobonichi Techo and Weeks. For reference: 1. Hobonichi Techo 2024 - Used my old Hiroshi Hatano-Ocean View cover with my doilies. Pen used for the month is a Pilot Kakuno inked with Monami Pale Orange. 2. Hobonichi Weeks 2024 Lavender - Used my old Saki Obata-Quiet Harbor clear cover together with a moon sticker from my stash. Hobonichi Techo 2024

As usual, I stick a few washi tape samplers and stickers on the front pockets.

This year, aside from using my daily pages for journaling, I'm using the yearly index and monthly calendar to list media for the day (left) and my small wins (right). Hoping I'd be consistent with this.
Here's a daily page I've accomplished so far.

Hobonichi Weeks 2024
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As I've started to track a new habit of walking, I use my yearly index for weeks to lodge the total distance I walked in a day (left). I'm also keeping the color system I started using since 2020 (right).

Here's a sample week in the life of my weeks, and below is a page from the grid pages in the back part (below).

Let me know what you're using your Hobonichis for this year, or if you are following any similar systems.
