let’s say that in order to perform ‘magic’, one requires at least 3 things:  (1) a natural aptitude for working with energies (in this case, the essence of any organism, object, phenomenon, etc) or an artificial stand-in for this potential. (2) an understanding of the nature of a subject and (3) an understanding of the nature of what could influence this subject and/or* methods for using what could influence this subject.

             learning to work with a traumatised mind is equivalent to              a hardcore 24/7 advanced to master level course in mind              -based energies.

the subject matter makes the training environment beyond the level of a novice; it taxes one’s resources and makes it a struggle to think, let alone think with purpose. the endurance required to make it through is above average. the mental acrobatics involved with dealing with trauma and recovering from it are equivalent to a high stakes training regimen; the internal world works against you with no holds barred and if you are still in danger, so does the external world. when one involves professionals, the bar is set even higher and we build up experience with and an understanding of the human mind and its trappings. additionally, trauma often incites considerations of the meaning of life, right/wrong, religion, existence, society, and so on - a broad mind is a boon and a great tool when one wishes to work with minds.

            so i say: survivors of trauma have a high affinity for mind-based energies and a high success-rate when they do dedicate themselves to the craft, provided they have the proper support (or are just that hardcore).

*understanding what something is can help you use it better, but that doesn’t mean you can’t just wing it and get somewhere without this understanding.

How to Submit a Good Portfolio

Since public applications will be opening soon, I thought I would make a simple guide on how to send a good portfolio when you apply to zines.

I’ll mostly be referring to art, since that’s what I’m most familiar with, but I’m sure a lot of these points can apply to writing as well.

A lot of my drawn commentary is meant to be lighthearted (and oh so messy), so please don’t take anything too seriously.
