Batman and Robin are fighting Poison Ivy! She throws pollen at them...the wrong type. Also, it misses and hits some kid with a camera.
She meant to throw cuddle pollen.
She threw sex pollen.
She freezes, horrified, because Robin is a kid. Luckily, it misses.
Unluckily, it hits an even smaller kid.
She and Batman and Robin all hurry to the kid's side, Ivy mentally trying to figure out if the kid'll survive being sedated long enough for her to make the cure.
The kid, though, won't stop sneezing. And itching his face and neck. Also wheezing a little.
Anyways that's how Tim finds out that he's super allergic to Ivy's sex pollen, and it doesn't do what it's supposed to with him, because his body just goes into "Allergy Season Mode".
Good news; the swelling of his airways made it possible to decontaminate him without any actually getting in his bloodstream.
Bad news; he called Robin Dick by accident when he'd been disoriented by the sudden onset of Extreme Allergies, and now Batman and Robin are very interested to know how he knows Robin's name.

And this is why “this fic has objectionable content!” is NOT a valid complaint, but “this fic failed to adequately tag/warn for its objectionable content!” is a 100% VALID complaint: because that failure removes the data necessary for the reader’s informed consent
Tumblr media
Good morning! I’m salty.
I think we, as a general community, need to start taking this little moment more seriously.
This, right here? This is asking for consent. It’s a legal necessity, yes, but it is also you, the reader, actively consenting to see adult content; and in doing so, saying that you are of an age to see it, and that you’re emotionally capable of handling it.
You find the content you find behind this warning disgusting, horrifying, upsetting, triggering? You consented. You said you could handle it, and you were able to back out at any time. You take responsibility for yourself when you click through this, and so long as the creator used warnings and tags correctly, you bear full responsibility for its impact on you.
“Children are going to lie about their age” is probably true, but that’s the problem of them and the people who are responsible for them, not the people that they lie to.
If you’re not prepared to see adult content, created by and for adults, don’t fucking click through this. And if you do, for all that’s holy, don’t blame anyone else for it.

I hate Bruce's "I don't kill because once I start, I wouldn't be able to stop"
Like I simply do not buy it. Murder is not a potato chip Bruce. I think he is full of shit and a messy bitch who lives for the drama. I am certain Bruce has some kind of valid reason for not killing, but I don't believe that this is it.

if i can impart any one piece of wisdom to y’all, it’s to, whenever possible, assume good intentions
assume people are trying their best, want to be good and treat others well, and that when their behavior doesn’t align with those goals, it’s because of outside factors that are pushing them to their limit
it’s hard to do, it doesn’t always come naturally, but it’s worth it

“Favorite hero - go!”
Tim didn’t even look up as he continued to type up his report for the night, “Dick Grayson.”
Jason scoffed, “Way to use your listening ears Timbers, Duke asked who’s your favorite hero, not your favorite brother.”
“I heard and I answered. Dick Grayson. If he’s Robin? Robin is my favorite hero. Now he’s Nightwing? Nightwing is absolutely the coolest hero to ever exist. He’s acting as Batman? Obviously Batman’s the best.”
Dick grinned brightly at Jason, smug in a way only older siblings can be.
“My. Favorite. Hero. Is. Dick. Grayson. From the day I first meet him, to the day I discovered his hero identity, to becoming a part of his legacy, to the first time he called me his brother, to today and till the day were both dirt and worms, my big brother will always be my favorite hero. You use your listening ears.”
Several of the others made faces or rolled their eyes at dirt and worms part of his rant but Dick only laughed quietly and hugged Tim so tightly that Tim felt the air being slowly but steadily pushed out of his lungs. Tim made no complaints but did roll his eyes, though no one but Cass could tell if it was at Jason or Dick.
“I can not find fault in your decision,” Damian weighed in, “And obviously, Father is your second favorite, thus your third favorite must also be of equal valor?”
Tim huffed and wiggled his way out of Dick’s loving embrace, “Who said B was my second favorite?”
Everyone blinked at him and he grinned, the exact same expression on his face as had been on Dick’s a few minutes prior, submitted his report, grabbed his Zesti off the ground beside him, and took advantage of Bruce and Alfred entering the cave to escape any more questions.
“Good night!” Dick called after him.
“Night!” Tim waved behind him.
“Well, I think I’m a strong contender for second favorite,” Tim heard Stephanie say before the grandfather clock closed behind him.

I think one of the big strengths of fanfiction as a medium is that it can, on average, assume the reader has a way higher degree of familiarity with canon than like…canon can. If you’re in the Star Wars AO3 tag you probably like Star Wars enough to remember more things about it than the average Star Wars-enjoying-ten-year-old. Which makes it way easier for fanwriter a to get to the juicy stuff and really engage with the worldbuilding or minor characters without having to spell out like. Who Wedge Antilles is for everyone who forgot or never noticed him in the first place. You could write a book about Wedge in the old EU because EU readers could also be assumed to be serious fans, but you can’t make a new canon Disney+ show about him. Those cost money to make and are intended for a broader audience.
And all this means that like. A good fic writer can and often will surpass canon when it comes to like. Thematic resonance and stuff, because they can really dig into something. Star Trek 2009 gave Kirk a new, more generic tragic backstory because it couldn’t expect the average moviegoer to be familiar with Kirk’s old, way more interesting tragic backstory. (Frankly, I’m not sure jj abrams knew about TOS Kirk’s backstory) whereas I have read a LOT of well-written, interesting, deeply resonant fanfic examinations of Tarsus IV, and what it means for Kirk’s character that he’s a genocide survivor. Star Trek 2009 answers the question “why did Kirk cheat on the kobayashi maru?” With “‘cause his dad crashed a spaceship when he was a baby.” A close examination of TOS canon implies the answer is “because he lived through a real-life Kobayashi that did have a win option, but which wasn’t taken.” BUT—and this is significant—even the TOS canon movies can’t really assume knowledge of the full TOS tv show, so that implication is never examined or made explicit. Instead it’s fanfic (and maybe spin off novels? Idk I’ve only read 2 trek books, if there’s one out there that covers this that would be really cool) where we get dives into that thread, where Kirk gets a commendation for original thinking because he can look a testing board in the eye and say “I’ve seen what happens when someone is entrenched in this kind of thinking, and I cannot let it happen to me. I understand the lesson, but it’s not hypothetical anymore and it never will be. I did what I had to do.” And that’s interesting! That’s meaningful! That can’t happen in a summer blockbuster. But it can happen in fic, easily, and that’s a strength of fic, I think.

Dick: Each of you guys possess different types of evil. Tim, you're lawful evil. Damian, you're neutral evil. Jason, you're chaotic evil. Jason: Why the fuck am I chaotic evil? That should be demon brat. Damian: Shut up, Todd! Why is Drake lawful evil? I should be there! Tim: I'm actually okay being lawful evil. I would like an explanation though. Dick: Gladly. Okay, Jason, you don't obey rules, for starters. You like everything to go your way, if it doesn't, you get upset and threaten everyone, including us. You don't care about consequences and- Jason: Alright, I get it. Dick: Tim, you're lawful evil because you like to be organized and followed everything to the T. You calculate and can be cunning whenever you want to be, too. Tim: Wow. That makes sense. Damian, glaring: Explain me, Richard. Why am I neutral evil? Jason: I can't wait to hear this. Dick, clearing his throat: Because I'm neutral evil as well. We both do what is necessary, even if it doesn't seem at times. Tim: Smooth. Damian: I'm relieved that we align together, unlike Drake and Todd.

Batman(On the subject of Nightwing): You can take the boy out of the circus, but you can’t take the circus out of the boy.
Nightwing: Your arch enemy is a clown and I’m surrounded by more people in tights than I was in the Flying Graysons. I never left the circus.

my absolute fave lowstakes hc is that donna and garth and kory’s first proper impression of a vanilla human was dick grayson which like…. permanently fucked up their perception of what humans were supposed to survive. like they see dick jump out of a plane head first with no parachute and are like…. yeah that makes sense. humans can fold themselves into a discus and launch themselves at 80mph to take down enemies. that tracks. humans are just sorta like that ig
then the first time donna tries to throw roy as a javelin and he almost breaks his spine going through a wall and she’s like

Once Batman has revealed his identity to the JL, after some strong encouragement from Superman and Woman, Bruce decides to try to start being a bit more "personable" with the rest of league. They've been colleagues for a decade and he trusts them all, and according to Clark and Diana this means there's no need for his whole mysterious "shadow of the night" bit, so he invites the league to dinner at the manor.
It is raining heavily, and even though it's not that late, it's nearly pitch dark but for the frequent lightning strikes. The league arrives together at Wayne Manor and the wrought iron gates stretch upward before them, ending in spikes at the top with ivy overgrown across them. They stand there, uncomfortable, wet, a bit weirded out, wondering how they're supposed to get passed the gates.
"This is creepy, right?" Hal says. "It's not just me?"
A voice. "Hello." As the league turns to the sound, thunder claps loud enough to startle everyone as lightning strikes, illuminating a small child standing on the other side of the gates that was definitely not there a second ago. He stands motionless under an umbrella, seemingly unbothered by the rain, expression vaguely irritated, and his eyes seem to flash green in the light. "I have been instructed to escort you inside."
The child doesn't move in any way but the gates slowly swing open, the creaking sounds sound straight out of a horror movie. Once they are fully opened, the boy turns and starts walking down the path without a word.
The league, some members quite freaked out at this point, follow him after exchanging some looks. They round a bend in the path and the manor comes into view. It is a massive dark structure, rising from the ground. Another lightning strike illuminates pointed spires, jagged edges, and it's gloomy, gothic nature. The sound of bats shrieking can be heard in the distance over the rain.
The league finally arrives at the front door, cold, wet, and thoroughly discomfited. An old man, a butler, looking out of time, opens the door, the child disappears inside. The butler welcomes everyone inside graciously but with a distant politeness. Despite the appearance of the exterior, the inside is well lit with warm light and seems inviting, though ostentatious. The league is relieved.
Until another massive lightning strike and thunder clap cuts the power off and the room is pitch black.
"Oh, you're here," a deep voice says from somewhere up above. No sooner are the words out than another lightning strike illuminates a dark, hulking figure on the staircase that was also definitely not there a second ago. At least two people scream.
Bruce is wildly confused as to why his guests are screaming, he didn't think any of them were afraid of the dark? The back up generator kicks on and the lights come back on and everybody seems to calm down. The rest of the dinner seems to go well (as well as a dinner can with the justice league and all of Bruce's kids) but strangely, to Bruce's confusion, it somehow only made his "spooky" reputation worse. He's not really sure why the whole league seems to think he lives in a haunted house.

I’m shocked and dismayed by the number of comments saying “$100 bucks is $100 bucks”. No, you scoundrel, $50 is $50 because you damn well be planning to at least offer your bestie half of that cash. What the hell kinda friends are you people?
