I LIED THIS IS ABSOLUTELY ENDING UP A QUEER PLATONIC RELATIONSHIP AND IT ABSOLUTELY WILL INVOLVE MULTIPLE PEOPLE BEING WITH YUU AND IT ABSOLUTELY WILL DIVE INTO THE MANY DIFFERENT DYNAMICS A QPR CAN HAVE
I also specifically lied about there being romance, at least from Yuu. I try to write Yuu as vaguely as I can get away with so readers can identify with them, but at the end of the day Mirrors Are Never To Be Trusted is not a reader insert. Yuu is a distinct character, and as the writer I have every right to self project (not like that was stopping me before), so I’m going to self project.
So this is to let you know that every MANtBT post before this and especially every post after this is with an Aromantic Allosexual Yuu in mind.
Thank you for coming to my TedTalk
SO I’m outlining something for the Rewrite (I need a better name for this 😭) and the intention behind this whole shebang was that it’d just vague enough to where it could be platonic or romantic, readers choice you know? I feel like I’ve accomplished that so far.
But I’ve been writing like an author possessed by the Muses for the past few days and honestly there’s just no way to escape the housewardens (at minimum) without ending up in a queerplatonic relationship at the very least. Probably more honestly.
I tried so hard to avoid the harem route but I’m weak and Yuu likes collecting powerful men this is where this was always going to go if they have their way
So this is my official warning that this rewrite (Mirrors are Never to be Trusted over on ao3) will more than likely include romance from here on out. And my official warning that guys in this version are basically incapable of feeling romantic love in a healthy manner, at least at first. Maybe I’ll explore ways for them to learn, maybe it’ll stay a dark romance, who knows not me🤷‍♀️

Ace, full of triumphant spite: sucks to suck bitch, you’re stuck with me for life!
Ace: *holds up his left hand, wiggling his fingers to show off his wedding band*
Alternatively
MC, speaking to any of their more tsundere/asshole love interests: haha, sucks to be you then, you’re stuck with me for life!

SHUT UP NOBODY TALK TO ME FOR LIKE A YEAR IM BUSY
So I had enough spare time to get to working on the pomfiore pattern. Again, a few notes to go along with this pattern.
Again, dropping every color but the colors of the main body of the logo.
Fuck I forgot scarbia existed. I will have to go through and make them a pattern as well.
Dropping a few rows of the solid red color (again labeled menthe here ugh)
I'm going to go with the higher neckline and puff shoulder/fitted sleeve combo, tho I don't know just yet if I will do away with the cuff and make the end of the sleeve pointed over the hand OR make the cuff extra long, about forearm length.
The main body of the sweater is going to be like a scarlet red with purple, gold and white accents.

Very very important information.
I'm not gonna edit my one existing Magift fic to better fit these rules that I 11392374729% agree with, but if I involve the sport in future fics I'm definitely following these guidelines.
Also I just love imagining my Yuu doing everything in their damn power to not physically touch the disc with their bare hands while yeeting across the field AND shimmying up the goalpost
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This started as an attempt for me to simply research the sport so I could better write my own stories with it involved and turned into something so much bigger than I expected it to. So, for all my fellow writers out there, please accept my notes and observations on the ever-loved sport of Twisted Wonderland: Magical Shift! (or Spelldrive, whichever you prefer) Since the sport was compared a lot to soccer/futball by Yuu, I took a few inspired liberties via the rules and regulations to further flesh the game out further.
HUGE thanks to @yuurei20 for helping provide additional information from the novels to help me compile these notes! If at some point additional information is revealed with regards to the game in the manga, I’ll go back and update this post further!

I’m actually playing Book 5 finally and NOBODY TOLD ME that like….. honestly Epel has like no ground to stand on😭 Vil is just so incredibly right.
Like I adore Epel, and no I don’t think he should be forced to hide his accent and other extremes Vil is putting him through. I don’t think he should be groomed to be Vil’s heir (bc that’s basically what Vil is doing) unless he wants to.
BUT BUT BUT
Vil is so incredibly valid?!??! In all of his call outs on Epel’s attitude and way of thinking??!? And like, I GET it, the mans is on a TIME CRUNCH and he’s got to undo 15 or so years of toxic masculinity without a licensed therapist so I GET IT.
Anyway Book 5 so far has consisted of me imagining Rewrite Yuu bullying Epel together with Vil so expect that fic in the future☺️

So I was rambling to my coworker today a LOT about Twst. And bless her she does not get it, but she supports my rambles, and she understood the “oh wait he pretty” so that’s all that really matters
BUT ANYWAY we all have favs, we all have boys keeping us in a chokehold, but have you ever considered how fucked you’d be if your favs knew about each other??? Bc my coworker did for me
I showed her Leona and Malleus yesterday to show off their voices and I had said something yesterday about “these two have me in a chokehold”. And today I was going into depth about Leona’s trauma and casually mentioned his hatred for Malleus
And how her head IMMEDIATELY popped up and said “oh you’re fucked, your two favs hate each other😂😂😂”
Long story short I can give my heart away to all of the not children in this game, but my top 5 consists of two actual princes of depression, a random Heartslabyul redhead (that’s vague on purpose), an unhinged eel (I know what I’m doing), and a tactical ball of sunshine own my soul

I showed my very Bible Belt coworker a picture of Leona and basically described him like this to her today and her response:
“Oh I 100% understand. Get your catman.”

Ink Dandelions
Ruggie agrees to what he thinks is just a fun outing with Yuu before everyone comes back from break and vies for their attention, but as he should expect when it comes to them, things end up more complicated than he bargained for.
TW: Tattoos and getting tattoos, mention of past trauma, mention of past violence, mention of scars, mention of nightmares, mention of asphyxiation/snakebites, mention of intentional violence, possessive thoughts.
A/N: MONTHS. THIS TOOK MONTHS TO WRITE. I really really really wanted to write this concept, I really really really wanted Ruggie to have his time to shine, to show it's not just the OB boys and Housewardens who are affected by this Yuu, but COHESIVENESS man gets me everytime :'(
"Where are we going exactly? Because I remember something about donuts, and this is not the way to the donut stall."
"I know, and I will get you those donuts, but after my appointment. This place doesn't allow any food or drink, besides water, for the clients."
"So explain to me why exactly I had to be the one to come with you then? Don't you have your pet cat and that card duo to drag along on your errands? I already gotta play errand boy for Leona, what's in it for me?"
There's a way Yuu will look at people, this intense look in their eye that he's never been able to quite pin down before. They're not looking through you, it's different than the way somebody like Floyd or Riddle might look at you, like you're not even there. And Yuu's stare isn't invasive either, not intentionally at least, no Ruggie is well aware of what that looks and feels like. There are too many guys at NRC that have perfected that calculating, dissecting gaze of looking into you, of being able to find your every flaw with just a heavy look. (He sees it enough on his own Dormleader's face.)
Yuu levels him with their unique, flustering, soul-searching look right there on the street corner. They're quiet as they wait for the signal that it's safe for them to cross, seemingly giving his sarcastic question some serious thought. It makes him squirm, makes his skin itch in an unfamiliar way, makes his ears flick and his tail twitch and it's not unpleasant, particularly, but it's different and he's about to say something taunting and probably rude just to get the Prefect to stop looking at him like that and -
Suddenly they're wrapping their hand around his own, gentle but firm as they finally turn away and tug him across the intersection. He thinks they're just going to ignore his earlier jabs, and that's fine, there was nothing serious behind them in the first place. Leona hasn't come back from break yet, and Ruggie had just returned yesterday, so as long as they held true to their promise of sugary delights, the hyena really didn't have any other plans today.
"I think you're the only one in all of NRC who will actually understand why I have this appointment. And if you decide you want it too, then I'm more than happy to pay for yours." They aren't looking at him, eyeing a nondescript storefront that they are determinedly dragging him towards. But their voice is somber, serious in a way he's really only heard inside the confines of the school infirmary. It makes him reach for his elbow, fingers tracing the scar he tried very hard to hide from his family over the break.
They catch the movement, he knows they do. But instead of commenting, they push inside the shop, letting him go once he's passed the threshold so they can approach the person at the reception desk. And Ruggie is left standing there, thinking to himself that this must be what whiplash feels like, because the stark difference between slipping into a slow spiral of complicated memories and baffled bewilderment is absolutely wild.
This is not where he thought the Ramshackle Prefect would be taking him today.
The tattoo shop is warm and cozy, surprisingly enough. Almost every inch of the waiting area up front is covered in tattoo designs. There's art in every different style known to man. From small, modern, simple designs to some massive traditional pieces he'd see back in the slums of the Sunset Savanah to everything in between from every corner of Twisted Wonderland. Ruggie is pulled back from his admiration for the art by the conversation brewing between the Prefect and the tattoo artist leading them to the back, Yuu waving at him to follow along.
"This is gonna be the last one right? I shouldn't have to see you in here again after we finish up this piece, correct?"
"Wow, okay, I see how it is, already sick of me huh?"
"Nah, of course not, you're one of my favorite customers. Some of my favorite art to walk out that door too. But considering exactly why you've enlisted my services, yeah, I want this to be the last one."
Ruggie feels like he's having an out-of-body experience. Sure, he can still feel the shop around him, too many predator instincts ingrained in his DNA to truly lose all his faculties. But as the artist and Yuu keep talking in that weirdly professionally intimate way, he feels his mouth go dry and his limbs lock up. And as Yuu takes off their overly thick turtleneck, revealing the tank underneath, it feels as if the world slows down to a syrupy crawl, like his head is dipped underwater and the only thing solid and real in this new world of his is the expanse of the Prefect's skin that he's now faced with.
Ruggie was there for Azul's Overblot. True he passed out before the fight had ended, but he dimly remembers seeing the cephalopod's tentacles wrap around Yuu's neck and squeeze. (He wakes up in cold sweats some mornings, trying to gulp down as much oxygen as possible when his nightmares decide to play around with that particularly traumatizing experience.) So there's a part of him that flinches, hard, when he sees the tentacles that are inked into the Prefect's skin. They wrap around their neck the same way the Octavinille's housewarden did, although these ones are more stylized than the real thing, purples and lilacs and oil-slick blacks creating a haunting effect on their skin. The suckers look a little more raised than the rest of the artwork, but otherwise, it's a gorgeous piece of work. Makes him less nauseous to see that than the old, awful bruising that used to decorate Yuu's collarbone.
It's the piece of artwork on their right shoulder that cause a ball of anxiety to develop in Ruggie's chest. Sure, the stark reminder of that day in Octavinille isn't exactly pleasant, and seeing the pottery-crack scar on their left shoulder always fills Ruggie with a complicated concoction of emotions, but he knows about those events, he was there for them. He'd seen the damage firsthand for both, helped them with their bandages for both occasions, shared one of those scars with them. But if they are getting tattoos as reminders of the events that left them scarred so far this year, which Ruggie is inclined to believe is the case as he watches the artist prep the area surrounding Leona's mark, then what happened to them over the winter break?
Slithering up the Prefect's right shoulderblade is the tail of a snake, burnt oranges and blood reds and coopery bronze scales climb the snake in an almost hypnotic pattern. They turn, and he can see that the head of the snake rests on the front of their shoulder, fangs poised over two holes just to the right of where their collarbone meets the shoulder. Its hood is flared, and the cobra's garnet-red eyes seem to follow you, daring people to come close lest its fangs end up embedded in them. It's an incredibly detailed and realistic piece, the snake leaving shadows along Yuu's skin and the fangs actually looking like they've... pierced... skin...
"Did you get bitten by a snake??!!"
"Yes, and?"
"What do you mean 'and?'?? When? Why? How?"
And as the Prefect settles down in the chair, they tell him.
-------
Ruggie has spent the past hour in silence, processing everything Yuu told him, watching their newest tattoo bloom to life on their skin, trying to force the nausea to leave his system. At first, he thought Yuu's near-death experience was his main cause of discomfort, and don't get him wrong, it did bother him. Incredibly so.
But the longer they sat there under the tattoo gun, the pissier he became.
It's not like this new tattoo was ugly or anything. In fact, it was gorgeous, something that would make him salivate in any other situation. It was done in the traditional Sunset Savanna style, harsh lines and bold swirls, matte black lines creating an intricate design across their left shoulder. He spent the past hour watching the cracked, jagged lines of Leona's scar disappear beneath a complicated geometric pattern. When he realizes they've replaced the mark of a lion with a massive inked lion head, something in him snarls.
"It's a reminder, not a claim."
"... I don't know why you think you need to explain. 'Aint got nothin' to do with me."
"It's a reminder. It's a reminder I choose, something I have control over. There's no magic in existence that can heal the scars left behind from an Overblot, these are scars I'm stuck with for the rest of my life and I had no choice in it. These are my choice. And I chose to swap the scar tissue for a lion so nobody, especially the person who hurt me could forget it."
Well, now Ruggie feels bad. A little. He gets it, probably the only person on campus who can get it, but that doesn't quell the possessive urge inside of him that's furious with the Prefect for doing... something. He's not quite sure what exactly about this whole situation that's got him so upset.
He grabs his elbow, as the artist paints glimmering gold for the lion's facial features, stuck in his own messy, complicated feelings from that messy, complicated day. Leona is one of his closest relationships, a weird mess of a balance between friend and servant, equal and lesser. Their relationship has always been about mutual benefits, symbiotic always, platonic sometimes. And Ruggie can’t even look at his arm because it reminds him that there was a moment, before Leona Overblotted, before you can write it all off as something done under magical insanity, a moment where Leona actively tried to hurt him, actively and intentionally tried to maim him. And Ruggie is still bitter about it, still brings it up occasionally to inflict some of the complicated hurt on Leona that he still feels, but Ruggie is also exhausted and tired and wants to move on.
He looks up and Yuu has him pinned with that pleasantly infuriating look again, like they can read every thought he's currently having and every thought he's ever had and every thought he could have in the future. And it makes him feel so incredibly seen, but right now while he's drowning in such an emotional internal shit show, he wants nothing more than for them to stop looking at him. He's too vulnerable like this, too on the edge, too irrationally mad.
"I think you should get a coverup tattoo."
"I think you're projecting your emotional bullshit."
....
"What would I even get, huh? No way in hell I'm getting a matching tat."
"I think you should get a Dandelion."
....
"I don’t know, I just don’t feel like you should let Leona have such a physical claim over you. Like, turn this thing that he did to you, this mark he gave you, and make it into something that’s yours. Your flower, your mark, your body, you know?"
And it's not a bad idea, not at all, but it does nothing to satisfy the feral thing that's been pacing in his chest, snarling and chomping at the bit during this whole stupid endeavor.
"Besides, we can say we've got matching flower tattoos!"
If anyone ever doubted Ruggie's predatory status, they should've seen the way he fucking locked onto the Prefect's newly revealed thigh. He was so intently taking in the vine of roses circling their left leg, a constricting band of blood red and bone white roses, vivid green leaves and night black thorns, so intent was he that he almost missed how his disquiet had quieted, calmed and placated.
Oh. Oh, that's what was bothering him.
Because he’d been watching the tattoo come to life and a part of him had died a little inside with every stroke of ink but he couldn’t figure out why. But it turns out he’d always thought of the scar as a sorta good thing, a little bit, in the very back of his head. Because Yuu had the same scar, and it tied them together. And when Yuu erased their scar (for very valid reasons he knows this) they erased the connection they shared with him. Erased their connection and replaced it with something connecting them to Leona of all people.
But instead, he can now have this with them, something they both choose to happen to them. In this cozy, tucked-away store on the far side of town, they can have this tie, and Ruggie really, really likes that idea.

Boring Meetings and Wandering Thoughts
A check-in of sorts, on how the Overblot gang really feels about the magicless student and the aftermath of their boss battles. Besides, they've all just come back from Winter Break, and Committee meetings are incredibly boring. Of course, their minds are going to wander.
Warnings: Possessive thoughts, dark thoughts, allusions to injuries, some of these boys flat out embrace their darker feelings, some live in denial, briefly mentioned jealousy, threat of violence
A/N: Hello! Welcome to a string of notes I have in my Rewrite outline that I really liked the way it sounded so I decided to drop some bulleted cannon for you all. Timeline wise it's set at the very beginning of Book 5, during that first meeting about the VDC. I had some other notes from that same meeting that elaborated more on the actions and actual dialogue occurring during that meeting, but I liked the flow of the boy's perspective more so here we are.
Riddle is busy. He’s running this meeting, and as Chair he just has so much to do. But Yuu is special to him, so whenever he gets the chance to breathe, he tries to pay them attention. And they're subtle, he’ll give them that, but he’s been close to them since the first week of school, and he knows them better than they think. So he knows something happened, but unlike everyone else in this room, Yuu feels comfortable around him. Yuu seeks him out, they take the time to come to him and schedule meetings if his schedule gets too busy. Yuu always stops to chat with him if they chance across each other. Time and experience and trust have earned him a spot as one of their friends, so he’s content in the knowledge that he can wait until after this meeting, and that they will willingly come to him and trust him with whatever it is that dared to bother them in his absence.
It's, well, absolutely abysmal to admit, but times like these, where the vultures and scum of this school hover around his Prefect, crowding their space and taking their time and stealing their attention, times like these cause him to think back on his Overblot with... fondness. The lapse of judgment and control was an absolutely dreadful affair, an experience usually looked back on in bitterness and self-loathing. He's tried to right that wrong and rectify the events leading up to it as well. But, and this is this disgraceful part, he can't look back on his Overblot with regret. Because Riddle will always relish being the Prefect’s first Overblot. It fills him with shame most of the time, that he lost control like that, that he needed the Prefect’s help, that he hurt them. But there’s a part of him that’s filled with pride. He was the first that they showed their immense kindness to, he’s the one who is called a friend, it’s his dorm they turn to first when they need help. And an even darker part of him is delighted to have left such a permanent mark on Yuu, the first in a collection of scars.
By now, he'd usually be asleep, curled up against the Prefect, lulled by their absentminded fidgeting with his tail. But not today. Leona knows something happened while he was gone. He can read the room, the tension coming off of Azul and Kalim, and the way the Prefect is favoring their left side (something they haven’t done since the Magift tournament). The cultural fair really doesn’t hold any interest to him, personal or otherwise, but he doesn’t sleep. No, today he watches, and he plans. Because nobody gets to hurt his Herbivore without his permission and walk away in one piece.
Honestly, sometimes it infuriates Leona how possessive he feels over the herbivore. They’re such a magnet for trouble, heck they caught his attention. It’s so much effort to look after them, and it’s exhausting to even think about the effort it would take to keep others from sniffing around them. But Yuu is worth it, for the way they look at him alone. He’s seen them scared, so it’s not that the way they interact with him is fearless, they’re not stupid. But the Prefect has seen him at his literal worst, seen exactly what he’s capable of, has been permanently scarred by his own Unique Magic, and even at his lowest point, they never looked at him like they were scared of him. Disappointed, yes, but never scared. It's baffling. No matter how vicious he gets, they don’t so much as flinch. It's... been a long time since anyone in his life doesn't flinch around him, doesn't flinch at his attitude or his threats or his magic. And Leona isn’t keen to give that up any time soon, no, this, Yuu, is worth some effort.
Azul doesn’t usually sit next to the Prefect, but after the winter break, he’s reluctant to let Kalim close, especially since the only seat still available is their right side, the side Kalim let his Vice Housewarden injure. It just wouldn't be good business practice is all, seeing as the Prefect is a reliable source of labor when they're strapped for Madol, and Azul protects his business interests thank you very much. A professional such as himself, a mafioso in the making, would not be blushing of all things every time Yuu swipes his fedora to place upon their own head. A businessman of his caliber would not be showing off, attempting to impress the Ramshackle Dormleader. No of course not, he's just practicing good business standards, obviously.
Upon reflection (another good business practice), Azul has come to the conclusion that it was not... well, a bad thing, to be dragged into the Ramshackle dorm's misadventures. He feels his debt to Yuu is paid off now, for the most part. The... necklace... he had given them during that vile loss of control has healed, so they can no longer use that as a bargaining tool against him. And now instead of putting them in mortal peril, he has saved them from mortal peril. They're even, they can start fresh, and he's no longer at a disadvantage when it comes to the Prefect. And upon even further reflection (again, always a good business practice, to look at situations from multiple perspectives and angles), he has to admit.. that... well. It was… nice. For the Prefect, who outmaneuvered him on multiple occasions during their encounter during finals, to genuinely ask him for help. To rely on him. He’s… not exactly… fond… of the idea that they might no longer require his assistance. So he’ll just, stay in sight, in reach, so it’s more convenient for them to turn to him should they need help again. It's just good business practice, to make oneself available for your clientele after all.
Kalim is observant and no one really gives him credit for that. So although he’s bummed he can’t sit next to the Prefect, he’s okay sitting across from them. It’s a better vantage point. He spends most of the meeting watching them, something he used to do before because they make funny faces sometimes, but now he’s looking for something specific. Every twitch, every stretch, every wince they might make he notices, trying to figure out if they’re still feeling any pain from what Jamil did to them. He notices every shift of gravity Azul and Leona make towards the Prefect, every easy invasion of their space, every curve of Yuu's lips in the semblance of a smile towards another person. He notices, and some envious thing sparks in him.
He’s not as flippant about his things as people make him out to be. Sure he gives away experiences and materials like it’s air, but that’s because they're just things. But Kalim cares about those he considers His. He might think of everyone at NRC as a friend, but he’s been through enough to know that some people are more than that, they’re His friends, the ones who have a place in his heart. Jamil for the longest time was the only one he had, but with the recent events, Kalim has found that there’s more room than he thought in his trusting heart, and Yuu fits that space perfectly. And of course, they fit in the new hole in his heart, a person like them is just so rare. They helped him, not because of what he could do for them in return, but just because they wanted to. When everyone else was tiptoeing around him, afraid to set off his new alter ego, the Prefect was upfront and brutally honest. After discovering how long he'd been lied to by the one person he trusted, Yuu's honesty was like an oasis in the desert. And he was a man dying of thirst.

I have a follow up in my wips 👀
Unsolicited Scrapbook
Listen, if it'd been your first time in front of a good mirror in quite a bit of time, and you'd gone through some pretty messed up shit, you'd be in an introspective mood too.
Or better yet, Yuu catches sight of their reflection and well, reflects.
Warning: Gore, graphic description of wounds, description of violence (enough to get the idea of how those wounds were formed), descriptions of scars and scarring. If it relates to scars and/or wounds and you can be triggered by it, it's probably in here.
A/N: This was one of the first ideas I came up with for this rewrite au. Not this scene exactly, but this concept. This is a game about villains. This is a game that has so much potential to cover dark material. I. Want. Consequences. This is the result. Enjoy.
Admittedly, it was... well it was a lot.
They hadn't truly been faced with this problem before, with the busted mirrors around the dorm that they haven't found the spare change to replace. And it's just been getting so cold that even the thought of running around in anything considered short sends shivers down their spine. So for one reason or another, they've gone half a school year, a whole semester, and now four overblots, without ever having to see a ton of their skin at once.
But now they're at the Scarabia dorm, in this bone-melting heat, faced with a literal wall of gold polished so well it's more reflective than the Dark Mirror, and they'd sooner eat Grimm's tail fire with a side of his fancy cat tuna than even attempt to slip on anything resembling a sleeve.
And they've somehow gone half a school year, a whole semester, and now four overblots without having to face the fact that this was a lot of scarring.
The newest one is, obviously, the worst. Objectively speaking. It's barely scabbed over, still raw and red and swollen, still throbbing, still hot to the touch. Four deep puncture wounds surround their right shoulder, the viper's fangs leaving a perfect imprint of its jaws. Surprisingly enough, this was the only wound an overblotted student had given them that didn't require a trip to the infirmary. The inky venom in their veins had disappeared the moment the overblot was defeated, and most students from the Scalding Sands know how to treat snake bites.
Kalim was very insistent he patch them up personally. He also insisted they let the wound be exposed to the water of the oasis, hence why they've removed his very professional wrap job.
And if seeing the physical evidence of what he did humbles Jamil even the tiniest amount, well they aren't going to complain about that.
At least they look a bit more balanced now with Jamil's contribution to the collection of scars they're beginning to possess. Before the winter break, a small part of them had felt a bit lopsided. True, the scars from Leona's Unique Magic had drastically decreased from their original size right after his overblot. But the patch of lightning strike scars cracking along the skin of their left shoulder and upper arm messed with their overall symmetry. At least now there was something on either side of their neck, although the part of them that seems to care about this (like seriously why does this matter scars are bad things to have wtf brain) will have to ignore the difference in size.
(That'd go over well. 'Hey, Jamil I need you to make your hair do the inky viper thing again and bite me some more so my scars are more equal in size'. Mentally scar the poor guy some more why don't you Yuu.)
The scar that surprises them is the necklace of circles that, well, encircle their throat. The bruising after their fight with Azul had been gnarly, splotches of deep purples and blues mixed with sickly yellows and greens. Deep indents in the shape of octopi suckers among the clear shape of tentacles wrapped around their throats encouraged the early emergence of turtlenecks and scarves into their wardrobe. By the time the bruising had begun to disappear, they'd genuinely needed to cover their neck to fight off the cold, so this is the first time they'd gotten a good look at their neck in a long while.
Hmm. Maybe it's a good thing that Azul's attempt to strangle them left a scar in such a visible place. Maybe next time Azul tries to pull some shady business, they'll rock up to the Mostro Lounge in something low-cut.
Sevens knows Leona only became so cooperative (if you can call it that) during that whole Octavinille debacle because he got an eyeful of all the bandages they were still required to wear lest Professor Crewel literally whip them for disobedience.
Although, if they're being honest, there is one scar they are dreading for people to see. Everyone knows about the other three, at least everyone at the oasis knows about all three. The bandages were too hard to hide, and they all witnessed what happened with Jamil. But they've managed to hide the two scars on their left thigh ever since their first week in this world.
The thing about entry and exit wounds, is they don't scar like you would expect. You would think they'd scar over fairly flat, but they don't. They don't ever fill in correctly, your skin remembers the folding in on itself that it has to do when something pierces it, and your skin remembers exploding outward when something exits it. But the wounds where Riddle's thorn had staked their thigh and left a hollow straight through their leg had easily been covered by pants all year. Only those who had been there for that battle had seen the true damage done by the enraged Roseheart.
But unlike everyone else who they have helped overcome an Overblot, Yuu has watched Riddle Rosehearts actively try to change his ways, learn from his mistakes, and take some personal accountability for the havoc he wreaked. So they kept the scar he gave them hidden, not wanting to remind others, Riddle, or even themself of just how dangerous he could be.
And now, because, again, they'd rather lick Crowley's desk than entertain the thought of pants in this insufferable desert heat, now that scar was going to be on display. They were going to get questions. They were going to have to relive that memory, that phantom pain over and over again.
They were going to have to relive all of those memories again.
The ripping sensation, the heavy feeling of something foreign, the absolute gushing of blood. The dry cracking, the peeling, the flaking apart at the literal seams. The threat of bones snapping, the drowning on dry land, the fear of a lung collapsing. The fire of acid in your veins, the teeth tearing flesh, the invasive screaming in their head.
All of it. Every time someone saw their scars, every time someone asked a stupid question, every time they saw someone else stuck in their own memories of Yuu's scars, they'd be stuck reliving all of that pain again.
With a heavy sigh, already feeling the exhaustion running through their every fiber, they finally drag their eyes away from their own reflection. The first thing they see is Grimm. Looking at them. Looking at their scars. A haunted, faraway look in his eyes.
Well, that settles it. Something must be done about these nuisances. Sooner rather than later.

This randomly gets traction sometimes and honestly everytime I see this post I think to myself:
This is 100% the moment some of those fools developed the biggest fattest crush on Yuu
If anyone is ever curious, for those who had been paying attention during the ceremony, this was their first introduction to Yuu in my rewrite:
The Dark Mirror, just doing its job: This student is soulless
Yuu, with a deadly saccharine smile: Do you want to try that again?
The Dark Mirror, fearlessly: You have. No soul.
Yuu, murderously: And you. Can be broken.
*Cut to Crowley forcibly removing Yuu from the Dark Mirror, where they were hanging off the frame trying to tip it over*

I love how you write yuu, you make absolute menace to society
So I’m just going to start off with: I’m so so so soooooo sorry I’m just now answering this 7 months later. I kinda fell off the face of the earth there for a very hot minute, so I’m legitimately just now seeing this.
Secondly: Thank you!! I’m glad someone enjoys their characterization! I think there are two ways you can write a character that doesn’t flinch in crazy scenarios like twst. There’s the Main Character way, which tends to be “too oblivious/dense to truly be intimidated/scared/surprised” which leads to its own kind of comedy.(Which Twst does very well *cough cough Hornington cough cough*)
And then there’s the Gen Z way, full of apathy and sarcasm and telling the reaper “finally” when it eventually shows its face. I like this way. This way leads to lines like “I long ago accepted I was most likely going to die by doing something stupid, and therefore I am not afraid of death”. So I like to write Yuu with a dash of Gen Z apathy.
I might also probably most definitely write Yuu like how I wish I could interact with the world if social anxiety would let me have a say for once but I digress.
Thirdly: Sorry for hijacking this very brief and succinct note in my inbox and turning it into a character expose, Yuu suddenly took up living space in my head again and I’m in an introspective mood tonight.

Rewrite Headcannons
Yuu can remember general knowledge from their world. The amnesia starts to kick in when they try to remember anything related to them personally. They can cheat sometimes for more specific knowledge they’ve learned back in their world as long as they don’t think about why they know that information.
Because of their amnesia, they will occasionally refer to themselves as "Jackie Doe", or sometimes just "Doe", as a reference to John and Jane Does.
Grim doesn’t have any positive interactions with humans prior to living in Ramshackle. Nothing super traumatic personally, but he’d heard stories from some of his fellow monsters when they’d give him the time of day.
Yuu traveled to Twisted Wonderland with their cellphone. It has absolutely no service, but they have found a way to charge it, so anything that had been downloaded is available to them.
Yuu is not officially in a club but does frequent the pop music club the most. They try to visit every club at least once a month. They have a schedule.
Yuu excels at school naturally. Their best subject is History of Magic (as it requires no magic whatsoever), but their favorite is Alchemy (in equal parts because the science is fascinating and also because their favorite teacher is Divius Crewel).
Very "Jack-of-all-trades" in nature. They try to accumulate skills and basic knowledge for a lot of different subjects and hobbies. They don't have to be good, just good enough to have a foundation should they decide to pursue that avenue of knowledge.
Yuu's fashion sense and aesthetics change on a whim (some of the things they have in their closet back in their home dimension would make Crewel and Vil cry. a good thing they don't remember those outfits). They try to look put together and coordinated for whatever aesthetic or look they are going for every day though.
On that note, they have aquired a sizable collection of ribbons for Grim.
Fairly opportunistic. Gets annoyed easily when they think someone has wasted an opportunity. Also dislikes hypocrisy. They're one of those few people who hate hypocrites enough to where they actively try to avoid being one themself.
A pet peeve of theirs is people using words that they know the other party knows the definition of, yet the other party still uses it wrong. Like Azul calling himself "benevolent" absolutely pisses Yuu off.
