National Coming Out Day-October 11th! *this* part of Alex's speech is so important-the whole speech is-both versions-in the movie, and in the book.

"The truth is every queer person has the right to come out on their own terms, and on their own timeline. They also have the right to choose not to come out at all. The forced conformity of the closet can not be answered with the forced conformity in coming out of it.

This isn’t about shame. This is about privacy and the fundamental right of self-determination which are exactly the principles on which the struggle for queer liberation has always been fought."

this is history being made-this speech-in a movie that is so famous worldwide? and i believe there are quite many people who left the room when this speech was on, or some people who were too distracted by his eyelashes to actually hear what he was saying and it shows. damn, it shows.

so many public figures have been put through it-what Alex and Henry have been put through both in the movie+ the book-UNACCEPTABLE. and so often it's done by queer people, our lgbtq+ community doing this shit to others? THIS CAN'T KEEP HAPPENING.

Becky Albertalli, Kit Connor (just to name a few), and so, so many others. What makes you even think you have a right to know this about ANYONE?

This National Coming Out Day, if you're queer and scared and not "out" yet, I want you to listen to this. Alex's speech. (later on I will post pictures of both FULL SPEECHES(movie +book), it's okay if you don't want to come out, whatever you feel is alright. You don't owe anything to anyone, not your friends, family or co-workers, or schoolmates, no matter what the world around you makes you feel.

you matter, you're important, you're loved, and whatever you decide it's okay.

I'm listening Drama Queens and I love their takes on the character of Dan Scott. Joy called him a "vampire" and it's so true. It just got me to thinking about how the first unselfish thing that Dan ever did was when he sacrificed his life to save Nathan.

Everything he does is for himself. In 5x16 he has this line...

I've never told anyone else this before, but when I was in prison, I tried to kill myself. I put a rope around my neck, and I tried to hang myself. When I stepped off that chair... I'd truly given up on everything. But then the rope broke, and I took it as a sign... A sign that I wasn't finished on this earth, that my life was incomplete. So, you see, I need to fix it. I need to fix all of it... you, us. I need that peace before I die. Son, let me help you with what little time I have left.

That is so manipulative. The way he uses his suicide attempt as a way to guilt Nathan and also says how he took it as a "sign" so if Nathan rejects him then he is denying the universe and denying someone who tried to commit suicide... so fucking manipulative. I see as being similar to when someone threatens to commit suicide if they leave them. It's trying to use suicide to manipulate someone and try to get what he wants. And then he the nerve to say that he needs peace before he dies. As if he didn't rob his brother of peace in death by murdering him. As if he didn't leave Lily and Lucas with no father and Karen without the love of her life. Where is their peace? It was stolen by you Dan!!

The way he gets upset and annoyed at Nathan all throughout the show for not wanting to forgive him is ridiculous. He has this feeling of entitlement. Like he deserves forgiveness. He deserves a second chance. Every nice thing he does is in an attempt to get forgiveness from Nathan. It doesn't come off as him wanting to be a good guy. There's always something he's trying to get... whether that be money, power, or forgiveness from Nathan.

I see far too many people feel bad for Dan during this time and think that Nathan is too hard on him. Nathan is a victim not Dan. Nathan is totally in the right during this entire time. Also you gotta remember that this isn't the only bad thing Nathan saw from Dan. He also spent much of his childhood being physically, verbally, and emotionally abused by Dan. He saw his mom threatened, manipulated, and mistreated by his father. This runs so much deeper than Dan stans would like to admit (I can't believe that SOB has stans BTW)
