The character dynamics explored in the Young Justice comic are far more intuitive and engaging than I ever expected them to be. Even the minor characters, such as the mothers of Cissie and Cassie, are given interesting and meaningful interactions.

Here, Helena Sandsmark (Cassie's mom) is acting as an advocate of Cissie during a difficult time for her. When Bonnie (Cissie's mom) starts to react poorly toward her daughter, a sadly common occurrence, Helena steps in.

I do think it's critical to understand that Bonnie really was working for the better interests of Cissie here and had brought her to see her mother. When other adults try to limit communications between children and their parents, it's almost always a disturbing red flag, even if there are no bad intentions. Showing that Helena actually brought Cissie to her mother, then only offered an out to Cissie after Bonnie had lashed out was a good way to show that she was being reasonable even though she probably wanted to say and do far more to Bonnie for her actions.

The dynamic here is so well done for a slapstick kids' comic!

Also, I absolutely love the respect and homage paid to motherhood and its importance.

not another one of those bat-contingency plan posts going around again forgetting that tim explicitly disagreed with bruce on this subject and it was a major point of conflict for multiple arcs

and this is despite the fact this group has had multiple evil clone fakeouts, which is addressed a page before. this isn’t a “oh EVERYTHINGS canon at some point there’s 80 years of comics 🙃” this is specifically an aspect of tim’s character in the comics that people keep ignoring bc it doesn’t fit the archetype

the point of this kind of storyline is that everyone has different opinions about whether you’re crossing a boundary or taking a necessary caution or whatever, the point is to explore them. pretending every single bat agrees is unbelievably boring and treats the most nuanced collection of perspectives on crime fighting and do-gooding all crammed into one city in as a monolith

lbr, if tim jumps into the anti hero chasm, young justice is following him off that cliff with zero hesitation. between Superboy being a test tube baby, Impulse speedrunning physical aging, and Wonder Girl having amazonian mentors, (not even mentioning Arrowette's actual cold-blooded murder attempt or Secret going full eldritch abomination), tim was the only thing keeping them from blowing up their villains from the start of yj1998. they trust his judgement implicitly, and really his moral judgement only starts to skew when a bunch of his loved ones die, so rifp the world if he ever decides "fuck it"

People are already lowkey terrified of Tim going rogue, imagine how nervous they'd all be if they realised he had four incredibly powerful metas who'd follow him

Turns out you aren't the only one who hates Tim Drake. In one of the YJ1998 comics Tim's dad, Jack Drake, puts Rat Poison in Tim's coffee. This is not touched on again in the comic.

We all know canonically tim doesn't drink coffee Jack was putting that poison in his own drink he likes the taste don't judge him

hiii esme!! how do i put this...........lets just say that when reading yj1998 my best friend could tell i'd picked up bart as a Fixation Character + favourite because i wouldnt stop sending panels of him and going LOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(his 90s solo is next on my reading list and frankly i feel like hes a character of all time. he genuinely means a lot to me and it makes me sooo excited tht i have a whole solo to read. im about to become so much more annoying about him)

The Mun's Interpretation || Accepting

Honestly? I like most of his canon. There's a lot of problems with the early storytelling in Kon's solo but honestly I think Kon is a pretty solid character. My problems with his canon portrayal starts with G*off J*hn's Titans run. Honestly? I don't mind Kon switching up his costume and stuff, I really like a lot of the ideas he had for Kon but I do think he focused way too much on the T*mk*on dynamic.

It goes against what we saw in YJ1998. I just find it really hard to believe that they have such a close friendship when Kon openly voices that he feels that Tim doesn't trust them. I just have a really hard time seeing them as close friends when we didn't get to see them work on their relationship at all leading up to to TT2003. T*mk*on really just comes out of nowhere. He also really downplays Kon's friendship with Bart the whole run because of the dynamic that's been built up with Tim. Honestly it's a mess that I don't really like but it had some really good ideas that were just very poorly executed.
