IM RIGHT HERE

Jun had been doing better than ever. After struggling through freshman year, he knew that sophomore year couldn’t be any worse. After all, what did he have to worry about? He had his true friends, Sobin and Soohyun, by his side. And he had you always there to support him, to love him. To be honest, he felt like he could take on the world some days.

But, the thing about trauma is that it never goes away. There’s no way to erase what happened in the past, or pretend like it didn’t happen. Jun could ignore it— he was very good at that, pretending to be fine. Jun’s past haunted him every single day. It was always there in the back of his mind. He could focus on other things, his friends, you, having fun, being kind to people, smiling… but it was always there.

You had learned over the months of dating him that it came out the most at night when he didn’t have anything else to think about. Lying there in bed prompted his brain to think about it over and over again. He hated it. He would have dreams about it, too. Getting beaten in that room. His father yelling. His screaming and crying. And the pain. He would wake up in tears, heaving and shaking.

You had only been there for it once, late at night when Jun had passed out before you, and you were planning to leave, but couldn’t quite get yourself to leave his side. So you stayed in the kitchen, quietly peeking at him sleeping every so often, cooing at his cute face and fluffy hair. You were glad you had stayed that night, because he had woken up not much later.

It scared you, seeing him so distressed. His comments that day told you that he was somewhat used to the nightmares. “I’ll be okay”, “I’ve dealt with it before”, “Don’t worry”, “It’s fine”. Those words flowed so easily out of his mouth that day, as if you were the one who needed to be reassured. But when he said it was fine, you knew he was lying. You could see it in his face, in his soft doe eyes filled with fear.

After a couple months of dating, and by drunken chance, you had properly slept over for the first time. Jun was a big cuddler, which you loved. He slept like a baby when you were around. As long as he was in your arms, he felt safe. You found you slept better with him all curled up beside you, as well. His soft breathing helped you relax, made you happy.

You stumbled through the door to Jun’s apartment, discarding your bag and shoes as fast as you could before you no longer had the will to keep your eyes open. You were absolutely drained. It was past 2 am. Your stupid boss had kept you overtime to do a deep cleaning even though you had done overtime for your coworkers too many times to count.

But, you were home now, and that’s what mattered. Though you hadn’t officially moved in with Jun, you spent more time at his apartment than your own at this point. Half your clothes and things had migrated over to his shelves and closet. You joked that you were like a married couple. Jun responded with teasing, as always.

“What are we, a married couple?”

“We could be. What’s your ring size?”

“Jun!”

You smiled at the thought, hurrying through your nighttime routine to get to bed and be close to Jun again. You had barely been able to text him all day. It would be best to get to sleep as fast as you could so you could wake up to him next to you.

You found him already fast asleep just like you expected. Curled up under the covers. You noticed he was hugging one of your pillows which made your face break out into an uncontrollable smile. He was such a cutie. You slid under the covers, making sure not to disturb him. You lay on your side, watching his sleeping face for a minute before your eyes flickered shut on their own and sleep overtook your tired body.

Jun shifted around in his sleep, eyebrows furrowing and sweat building as the scenes replayed in his head. He was right there, watching it unfold over and over again. He hated it. It was torturous. No matter how fast he moved, he could never reach the door quick enough before his younger self was dragged through and screams were all he could hear.

He gasped, eyes opened wide, chest heaving. He knew it would happen tonight. He predicted it. He had been feeling overwhelmed all day with texts from his mother who had gone to see his father for reasons he could never understand. It stressed him out more than he could say. He should’ve mentioned it to you, but you were so busy with work he couldn’t bring himself to.

But now, here he was, unable to calm down. It was like some creeping terror was creeping up through his body, through his stomach and up, up, up until it reached his neck and he couldn’t breathe. His vision felt clouded and the tears dripping down his cheeks certainly didn’t help him calm down.

He needed something to ground him.

“Baby?” Your voice sounded soft and a little groggy, and knowing that you were there only made Jun cry harder. You quickly pulled him into your arms, knowing your touch could calm him down eventually. “It’s okay, Jun. I’m right here.” You kept whispering soft words to him, patting his back gently, pressing soothing kisses to his forehead and hair. The sound of his choked back sobs was your least favourite sound in the world. Your heart felt like it cracked into a million pieces, and you hugged him a bit tighter.

You heard his breath stabilise just a bit and you breathed a sigh of relief. Gently cupping his face in your hands, you pulled back from the hug just enough to look at him. You wiped his tears and fluffed his hair, calling him cute until he eventually broke out into a smile.

“I hate seeing you cry.” You mumbled sadly. Jun nodded, whispering a soft “sorry”. You shushed him immediately, “It’s not your fault, baby. It’s never your fault.”

“Thank you.” The words came out in a soft way that made your heart melt on the spot. You absolutely adored the boy in front of you. “C-can we cuddle?” He asked shyly, face a little puffy from crying making him look 10 times cuter.

You giggled, hands automatically moving to squish his cheeks adoringly. He let you, staying still and just staring at you with his big eyes. “Of course, whatever you want.” You told him and then pressed a kiss to his nose, making him scrunch it up from the ticklish feeling.

“I love you.” He said, arms circling your waist and hugging you to him in a way that made you giggle until he was laughing too.

“I love you more, you know?”

“No- No, I don’t know.” He quickly protested before grinning.

“I do!” You persisted, savouring his boyish smile, lighting up his features, bringing butterflies to your stomach.

He giggled and then suddenly his lips attached to yours, softly moving against them until you welcomely kissed him back. Even when you pulled back from the kiss, Jun whined and pulled you closer again, reconnecting your lips.

You giggled and pulled away, speaking before Jun could occupy your lips again, “You just want kisses tonight, don’t you?”

He nodded quickly, humming in affirmation, “Will you give me more kisses? Wanna kiss you more.” He mumbled with a smile.

“Come here.”

so when the professor for some reason assigns the classroom assigned seats to torture everyone, the moment he sees you walk in his eyes immediately catch onto yours and he would continue giving you sad, puppy looks because he wasn't able to sit next to you.

when he sits next to you some of his favourite things to do is playing with your hand under the desk. you love the feeling of his thumb tracing soothingly over your knuckle, or when your hands just seem like magnets and you wrap your pinky fingers with each other lmao. sometimes you end up falling asleep in class and he would make sure no hair was in your face, muttering a quiet cute (and maybe taking a quick pic of you) before paying back attention to class.

but when class is over best believe he is BOLTING back to your side, instinctively grabbing your hand in yours as the two of you walk outside together, acting as if he hasn't seen you in eons or something. and he whines whenever you have to let go because you both don't share some classes together :(

"whaat? you have to go now? 🥺" and it takes him a while to finally let go of your hand; he's already missing the feeling of holding it :((

pls give him a quick peck to the cheek so his face lights up and he'll be excited to reunite with you again. and when he finds you walking outside the school, he feels the vibrations in his pocket from the texts you were sending him. however he doesn't answer them, instead slowly comes up to you before surprising you with a back hug, which may or may not have made you screamed pretty loudly.

ugh he would definitely LOVE to give you piggy back rides even if it's just for fun. he's very attentive so he would notice you being quiet while on the walk back to your place, knowing how tired and stressed you've been lately.

then he wouldn't even ask and just would kneel in front of you and you're all confused at first.

"what are you doing?" you ask him.

"giving you a piggy back ride," then you would hesitate at first, and he'd look back at you. "come on, baby, I know you're tired."

there have been many many times where he would drift off from whatever he was paying attention at to look at you. you could simply be reading next to him, playing on your phone, or listening to lecture but he would just be admiring you.

you would get all shy and flustered whenever you catch him staring, and he'll be soo smug and teasing you about it.

"I... why are you looking at me like that?"

all he does is give you that slight smirk and push away some loose hairs behind your ear or give you a little squeeze to your cheek.

he'll either respond with something along the lines of:

"hm, am I not allowed to stare at you?"

"you're just so pretty, I can't help myself."

The cold wraps around Sang-Woo and Gi-Hun as they enter the air-conditioned store. Sang-Woo takes a shopping basket and heads to an aisle without looking back to see if Gi-Hun is following him.

This is probably the worst fight they've had since the start of their relationship. And to think, just a few days ago, things were going great since that kiss. He couldn’t take his eyes off Gi-Hun, and now he can't even look at him.

They've made out plenty since then. When he had Gi-Hun over to tutor him, at the school library, where they were almost caught by a teacher, even at the riverbank, where they were caught by Ji-Yeong. They've gotten better at it too, with Sang-Woo copying what he saw at the movies.

But then Thursday came along. Fucking Thursday.

Gi-Hun's footsteps get louder beside him, almost drowning out the muffled sounds of a drizzle starting. Gi-Hun catches up to Sang-Woo's pace. It takes everything in Sang-Woo to not look at him.

Gi-Hun’s guard is up. It’s like he’s built a wall between them that Sang-Woo can’t break or climb over, but he looks up and sees Gi-Hun peeking over, looking at him with an expression that tells him that if Sang-Woo brings his pride down, Gi-Hun will bring down the wall.

Sang-Woo halts next to the colored papers. “What colors do you want?”

“You choose,” Gi-Hun mutters.

Sang-Woo rolls his eyes and turns to face Gi-Hun. His brain stops working, however, when he makes eye contact with Gi-Hun's piercing eyes. Gosh, he thinks. What happened to the puppy dog eyes Gi-Hun's always had?

Sang-Woo takes a breath. “Look, I know you're mad, I am too, but if we're gonna have to work on this stupid project together, you're gonna have to cooperate, okay?” It came out more aggressive than he meant.

Gi-Hun looks shocked, but he just closes his eyes. “Blue, yellow and green,” he says through his teeth.

Sang-Woo huffs out a frustrated thank you, grabs the papers, and puts them in the basket.

YESTERDAY, THURSDAY

Gi-Hun is leaning against the bookshelf as Sang-Woo’s hands ruffle through his hair. Their lips are pressed together, noses brushing while taking in each other’s scent. Gi-Hun pulls away for a second to catch his breath but is immediately sucked back to Sang-Woo’s mouth, causing their teeth to clash for a moment. Gi-Hun emits a small yelp of pain, or maybe it was a moan, Sang-Woo can’t tell.

Sunlight shines through a window and puts a spotlight on them, adding to the heat of their kiss and brisk heartbeats. Their uniforms get warmer from the friction of their chests. Sang-Woo is a little scared that they’ll get caught, but probably not nearly enough as he should be.

The books behind Gi-Hun shake. “Wait,” Gi-Hun says, pulling away. “We’re being too loud, this is a library.”

They are positioned at the very back of the room, bookshelves covering them. Barely any people are in the room, just them, the librarian, and a few students studying.

Sang-Woo wipes a sweat running down Gi-Hun’s forehead. “Then kiss me slower.”

Gi-Hun’s cheeks flush as Sang-Woo’s thumbs caress them. Sang-Woo leans back in. Gi-Hun’s eyes close a moment before Sang-Woo shuts his. They meet again. Gi-Hun’s mouth opens as Sang-Woo’s tongue finds its way in. They move in a rhythm, Sang-Woo’s hand travels down to Gi-Hun’s waist as Gi-Hun holds Sang-Woo’s neck.

A thud near them.

They stop abruptly, quickly getting off each other, a thread of saliva snapping at their divergence. Sang-Woo grabs a book and pretends to read. Gi-Hun wipes his mouth with his arm.

The teacher emerges from the bookshelves, halts, and looks at them for a few seconds. Sang-Woo keeps his eyes on the book, which he’s too nervous to even see. He’s looking at it, but he’s not seeing it.

“You two,” the teacher says. Sang-Woo and Gi-Hun stiffen up as they turn to look at him. “It’s almost one o’clock. Shouldn’t you be going to your classrooms?”

“Uh, of course, sir,” Sang-Woo says. “We were just about to leave.”

The teacher nods. “Your book’s upside down by the way.” He pushes up his glasses and walks away.

They looked at each other and burst out into laughter as Sang-Woo closes his book shut. He looks down at the cover— Three Generations upside down.

Gi-Hun and Sang-Woo sit next to each other in class. The teacher stands behind his desk, holding a stack of papers. “Alright, everybody listen!” he says as he taps the stack of papers on the desk, evening them out. “You’re gonna do your project in pairs. I’ll call out the names of your partners!”

The teacher looks at the papers. “Jiyeong and Jun-Ho. Ali and Sae-Byeok…” He continues, then, finally, “Gi-Hun and Sang-Woo.”

Sang-Woo smiles. He would probably do the entire project by himself if Gi-Hun asked, but Sang-Woo knew he wouldn’t. Sure, Gi-Hun can be irresponsible at times, but that doesn’t mean he’ll let anyone he loves suffer. It’s one of the things that gives Sang-Woo a fuzzy feeling every time he looks at Gi-Hun.

He looks at Gi-Hun, who is giving him the same loving smile he has on his face.

“Okay, you all got that?” the teacher says. “Now, for your project, you’re going to make a pop-up card made of colored paper cut in the shapes of different quadrilaterals. It’s up to you what object you’d like to create. Does everybody understand?”

The whole class says, “Yes,” in unison.

The bell rings.

“And remember, the school dance is on Saturday.” The teacher exits the room. It’s their last period, and the students start to stand up and put on their backpacks. Sang-Woo does too. He sees Gi-Hun stand up and Sang-Woo grabs his bag before him.

“I’ll do it for you,” he says smiling, wearing the backpack at the front. Gi-Hun smiles back at him for that. Sang-Woo feels his cheeks heat up and that fuzzy feeling grows in his chest again.

“So, about the school dance…” Gi-Hun says. Sang-Woo smiles, he's already asked Gi-Hun to go with him earlier this morning. Of course, Gi-Hun said yes.

“Pick you up at seven?”

Gi-Hun nods.

They walk slowly through the hallway side by side. Sang-Woo thinks Gi-Hun’s hands must be metal and his must be a magnet because the pull when they’re only inches apart is excruciatingly strong. But Gi-Hun takes Sang-Woo’s hand, and his palm doesn’t feel like metal. It’s soft and warm and feels like home, and he can imagine the rest of his life like this: Gi-Hun’s warmth sprawling through his body while they grow old and live together.

The heat of Gi-Hun’s touch travels through Sang-Woo’s entire body, and embarrassingly, that includes the place in his crotch. Sang-Woo feels his boxers getting tighter.

Shit. They’re still in school. Sang-Woo can’t be caught in public with a hard-on while holding hands with his boyfriend!

Sang-Woo’s palms grow sweaty from the fire in his thumping chest. He jerks his hand off of Gi-Hun’s. His boyfriend flits his head to him with shock and concern in his eyes.

“What’s wrong? Are you okay?” Gi-Hun presses his hand onto Sang-Woo’s neck. “Your pulse is heavy… and you’re sweating so much again! Did your fever come back?”

Fuck. With Gi-Hun this close, Sang-Woo will overheat. And the worry in his voice too. Oh no, Sang-Woo can’t take it anymore.

He puts his hands on Gi-Hun’s cheek so suddenly that he’s practically slapping him. Sang-Woo pulls Gi-Hun in and catches his lips with Sang-Woo’s own, closing his eyes. All of this before he could even think.

Sang-Woo parts his lips, but instead of Gi-Hun doing the same and taking in Sang-Woo like how he did earlier in the library, Sang-Woo feels Gi-Hun’s hands pressing on his chest and pushing him away.

Sang-Woo opens his eyes and sees Gi-Hun looking at him with those same eyes, and they’re still filled with shock. But this time, they’re not filled with concern.

They’re filled with fear.

“W…what are you doing?” Gi-Hun whimpers. And it’s then that Sang-Woo realizes how many people are staring at them.

What did he do? Sang-Woo feels his insides sink and shame weighing down on him. It’s suffocating.

“It’s… I— Well—” he struggles to get a word out.

“Let’s talk somewhere else.” Gi-Hun blinks. His eyes are starting to water. “Just… follow me.” Gi-Hun starts walking off. Sang-Woo stares at Gi-Hun’s shrinking silhouette for a few seconds, not fully registering what’s going on.

He hears Deok-su’s voice from behind. “Well, well, well, are the two fairies having a lovers’ quarre—”

“Shut the fuck up, Deok-su.” Sang-Woo follows Gi-Hun, flipping off the teasing boy from behind.

Gi-Hun leads Sang-Woo to a nearby vacant boys’ bathroom. It smells like garbage, one of the lights is broken, and the mirror is smudged with Lord knows what, but it’s the nearest place where they can get privacy. The two are about three feet apart. They stand quietly for a moment.

Gi-Hun turns around to face Sang-Woo. “W…” he starts, but doesn’t finish. He looks at the stalls, probably to make sure that no one is there to eavesdrop. “Why did you do that?” Gi-Hun’s voice wavers a little.

“I thought you wouldn't have a problem with it. We’ve kissed a bunch of times before and you were fine—”

“That’s because you asked first so I was prepared!” He fidgets with his hands. “And it wasn’t in front of that many people! And, and…” Gi-Hun bows his head, but Sang-Woo can tell he’s about to cry. “And you weren’t so forceful like that those other times. You just… suddenly grabbed me and smushed your lips on mine.” He pauses between each sentence. “It hurt. And it was scary.” He was shouting at first but now he’s whimpering each word. Sang-Woo could hear him whisper, “Plus, fevers are contagious.”

But, that isn’t fair! Sang-Woo thinks. He’s heard many times that it’s normal for teenage boys to have raging hormones. Every time he’s seen a guy being disruptive or doing something he isn’t wanted to do, Sang-Woo has heard people say, “Boys will be boys.” He’s only seen movies where even if the man kisses the girl without asking, the girl doesn’t mind. So, why is it his fault? Why is Gi-Hun blaming him? He didn’t do anything wrong.

Right?

He thinks of the way Gi-Hun looked at him with fear, and the shame and guilt press down deeper on him but somehow, his ego upholds his pride and pushes the remorse away.

“So, what? You’re embarrassed to be seen kissing me? Does it embarrass you to love me?” Sang-Woo says.

Gi-Hun looks at him with disbelief and a tinge of sadness. His brows furrow in anger. “Don’t try to turn this around on me, Cho. When did I fucking say that? All this time, you’ve respected my space and decisions, so why are you doing this now? Is it so hard to keep on asking me before you do it for fuck’s sake?”

Sang-Woo huffs. Cho. His last name. Gi-Hun hasn’t called him that since elementary.

Gi-Hun’s eyes are red and filled with tears. It makes Sang-Woo’s heart ache. Gi-Hun storms out of the room and Sang-Woo is left in this shitty, stinky bathroom. Sang-Woo looks at himself in the mirror. Was he really in the right?

Or did he just fuck this whole thing up?

TODAY, FRIDAY

The fresh smell of an air-conditioned store lingers. Sang-Woo’s hands grow cold around the plastic handle of the shopping basket. He wonders if Gi-Hun’s hand is cold as well. It must be. Sang-Woo wants to hold it and keep it in his warm pocket. And maybe it will still feel like home. Even after that fight, the magnetic force is still there.

Sang-Woo looks out the window and sees the cloudy skies, the drizzle slowly turning to rain. The stars are no longer visible unlike that night during the field trip when they first kissed.

And yet again, he’s thinking about kissing Gi-Hun. Gosh, how frequently has he been thinking that?

Sang-Woo’s mother found out about the project and had him call Gi-Hun to arrange a date and time to work on the project together. Sang-Woo thought it was gonna be a hard call but it was Gi-Hun’s mother who answered and she told Sang-Woo that she’ll have Gi-Hun come to their house this evening.

So now here they are.

The store is pretty quiet, except for the nearby beeping of the cash register and the quiet voice of the cashier handling the customers’ purchases. And somehow, the silence is making things worse for Sang-Woo. It lets his thoughts sit and rest and allows the guilt to slide back in, where it belongs. The pride has diminished over time, so there is nothing to push it back.

Ever since the argument happened, he’s had nothing else to think about other than the situation. He went over every word that was said and each feeling he experienced.

Only now has he thought about what Gi-Hun might have felt.

The guilt sprawls over him wider.

“I’m s…” Sang-Woo heard himself mutter before he knew it. Gi-Hun looks at him. The hostility and anger in his eyes seem to have lessened a little. “I’m s…” he tries again.

“What?” Gi-Hun mutters. The bricks of the wall are slowly cracking.

“I’m…searching for the card stock. Have you seen it?” For fuck’s sake! He can’t even apologize. How on earth is he gonna make this right?

Gi-Hun sighs. And just like that, the wall is back up. The chain is on his door again and the defenses are up once more.

Gi-Hun’s eyes slowly get wet. “Are you really that impenetrable to guilt?” he snaps. The beeping of the cash register stops and the light chatter ceases. The sounds of the impending rain outside grow louder. They should’ve brought an umbrella.

Sang-Woo can tell people are staring at them about to have an argument. Just like yesterday.

“Gi-Hun—”

“I can’t do this.” Gi-Hun walks out of the store. Sang-Woo drops his basket, spilling all the items they were about to purchase.

“Wait, no, Gi-Hun, it’s pouring, you’ll catch a cold!” He chases after him, opening the glass door and trading the cold air of the store for the frigid rain outside. He gets drenched instantly, and the raindrops hit them briskly. He catches up to Gi-Hun and grabs his hand. Gi-Hun halts, and Sang-Woo feels his wrist tighten.

“You know I’m faster than you,” Sang-Woo tries to joke, but Gi-Hun turns to face him and his expression says that Gi-Hun’s in no mood for jokes. Gi-Hun yanks his hand off Sang-Woo’s.

His eyes transform from angry to heartbroken, restoring his puppy dog eyes. Seeing him like this, drenched with a sorrowful look on his face, the guilt takes over Sang-Woo’s body. And he can no longer fight it. He can no longer try to evade the truth.

He fucked up. Really bad.

“You know,” Gi-Hun starts, “one of the biggest reasons why I fell so hard for you is because you were caring and gentle and responsible and you cared for my feelings .” Gi-Hun sobs. “I don’t why you’re like this now but I don’t know if I wanna stay with someone who doesn’t respect my boundaries.” His eyes are so red. The tears from his eyes blend with the rain.

“And you can’t even say sorry,” his voice crumbles. “If you still want to take me to the dance, fine. But, I think we need a break,” he finishes off. And with that, he walks away.

Sang-Woo wants to chase after him, to say he’s sorry and that he’s realized he’s wrong and that he swears it’ll never happen again. That he’ll never hurt him again. That he can’t stand to see him hurting so much because of him.

But he doesn’t. He just stands still in the pouring rain, not sure if it’s the gelid rain or time that froze him.

Realizing that Gi-Hun just left him. Under the same sky they fell in love on.

A Nam Soo-Hyun and Yeo Jun fanfic

You fit me better than my favorite sweater

Jun got back home from classes in the middle of the day. He dropped the bag of groceries he’d been carrying in the living room along with his backpack before walking into the bedroom. Soo-hyun was basically in the same position he’d left him in the morning. He was lying face down, buried under a mountain of blankets and pillows. At first Jun thought he was sleeping but then he heard little coughing sounds. Soo-hyun had gone down with the flu the night before and by now it seemed to have totally weakened him. Jun sat down at the edge of the bed, placing one hand on Soo-hyun’s forehead. He was all pale and sweaty. He was also burning up. Soo-hyun turned his head to the side, leaning into the touch.

“You’re really burning up,” Jun said, sounding worried. “Did you take your medication today?”

Soo-hyun shook his head.

“Why not? Don’t you want to get better?”

“I hadn’t really eaten. I didn’t feel like getting out of bed.”

Jun sighed and made to get up but Soo-hyun placed his head on his lap, wrapping his arms around him like a vice. “Don’t go. You just got back home,” he whined, cuddling closer.

“I know but I have to prepare something for you to eat.”

“Did you not order food?”

“No, I bought some groceries,” Jun said, voice soft, his fingers running down Soo-hyun’s sweaty back. “I’m going to make you chicken noodle soup.”

“Have you ever made it before?” he asked, doubt evident in his voice.

“Thank you for the vote of confidence,” Jun retorted, rolling his eyes even though Soo-hyun could not see him.

“What? I didn’t say anything.”

“Soo-hyun… baby,” Jun said, tone coaxing, “I have to get up.”

Soo-hyun reluctantly removed himself from Jun’s lap and settled back on the bed. Jun went to the kitchen and got to work. He removed the ingredients one by one, prepared them and put them in the pot on the stove. He stood by the counter, watching it all boil. As the chicken and vegetables started to get cooked, he added the noodles and spices. He covered the cooking pot and reduced the heat of the stove to let it simmer.

He checked in on Soo-hyun. He was napping but it looked fitful. He was tossing and turning. Jun wet a cloth and placed it on his burning forehead. He caressed the side of his neck, trying to soothe him as best as he can. When he seemed to settle into a deep slumber, Jun left and sat down on the sofa, tackling some of the assignments he’d brought back. It didn’t take long after that for the soup to finish cooking. He switched off the stove and called So-bin.

“How’s the patient doing?” she asked.

“He’s crankier than ever. Clingy too,” Jun said, sitting down on the couch with his legs drawn up.

“Are you done making the soup?”

“Yeah.”

“You sure you made it right?”

“Not you too. Nobody here has faith in my cooking,” Jun complained. “I did everything you said.”

“Alright then. Just pray that Soo-hyun’s taste buds won’t be able to tell the difference.”

“Yah!”

So-bin laughed and hung up the call.

“Jun-ah,” Soo-hyun called out in his roughened voice.

“Yes!”

“I’m hungry. Where’s my soup?”

“Ah you are up. Let me bring it to you.”

Jun poured the hot soup into a bowl and made his way to the bedroom. Soo-hyun was sitting up on the bed. He was leaning back against the headboard. His hands were resting on his thighs and his shoulders were slumped. His eyes were a bit swollen and the tip of his nose was red. Jun climbed on the bed, sitting opposite him with the bowl of soup in hand.

“Do you want me to feed you?”

Soo-hyun nodded, biting his lower lip.

Jun moved closer to him. He scooped some soup on a spoon and fed him in small mouthfuls. “Careful, it’s still very hot.”

“It’s good,” Soo-hyun said after a while.

“Really?” Jun said with a smile. “Are you sure you’re not just saying it to spare my feelings?”

Soo-hyun shook his head. “It’s spicy. Exactly what I need.”

Jun beamed at him. “Wait until I tell So-bin that.”

Soo-hyun cracked a smile at that. “I’m full,” he said, pushing Jun’s hand away.

Jun carried the bowl to the kitchen and came back with a glass of water. Soo-hyun took his medication and drank from the glass of water that was offered. Jun climbed on the bed again and leaned back against the headboard. Soo-hyun lied down on the space between his legs, resting his head on Jun’s splayed thigh. Jun stared down at him, the look on his face tender. He carded his fingers through Soo-hyun’s jet-black hair. It was soft to the touch.

“You should change your hair-style. Have your bangs pulled back,” Jun said to him. His fingers were brushing said bangs away from his forehead.

“Would you like that?” Soo-hyun murmured in his leg. His fingers were playing with the hem of Jun’s pants.

“Yeah, it’d give you a completely different look. You’d look more mature, sexier.” Jun said with a smile, kissing the tip of his nose.

“Careful,” Soo-hyun cautioned. “You would become sick too if you keep that up.”

“I don’t care,” Jun shrugged, kissing him on the cheek and making him giggle. “Baby, will you do me a favor?”

“What favor?”

“Would you consider dropping the part-time job at that restaurant? It was wrong of them to make you stand under the pouring rain and distribute their stupid flyers.”

Soo-hyun remained quiet at that. “I don’t know. Maybe. If I could replace it with something else.”

“Of course you would find something else,” Jun reassured him. “I can’t have you falling sick on me and missing classes.”

“Yeah that’s true,” Soo-hyun said and Jun felt relieved that he was agreeing so easily.

They kept talking in low hushed voices, cuddling close. Jun continued to play with Soo-hyun’s hair, kissing him all over, practically smothering him with affection. Sometimes, when Jun had him this close in his arms, Soo-hyun clinging to him like he was doing now, driving comfort from him, letting Jun take care of him, he simply couldn’t believe how lucky he was to have been chosen by Soo-hyun.

Soo-hyun loving him back still felt like a miracle. There were times when Jun caught himself thinking, he’s mine, he’s completely mine and nobody else’s and the joy and excitement that brought him couldn’t be compared to anything else.

Soo-hyun, who ‘d been there for him in a way that nobody had been before and had essentially pulled him out of the depths of hell and filled his life with light and hope. Jun stared down at him, smiling softly, tracing his eyebrows with his fingertips.

“What?” Soo-hyun said.

“Nothing…I just love you…so much. You know that right?”

Soo-hyun nodded. “I know. I love you too, Jun-ah.”

Jun reached out for his hand and entwined their fingers. There were many things that he was still getting used to. One of them was having someone who loved him whole-heartedly, without any reservation. But if there was one thing that Yeo Jun had always known how to do, was latch onto the things that were precious to him and never let go.

“Wake uppp!” you nudged Renjun again while he stayed buried under the blanket, still pretending to be sleeping and fake snoring. You groaned out, “Jun! Come on, we have to get ready,” you whined after you stopped nudging him.

He slowly peeked from the blanket, shaking his head. “Are you a kid or what?” you giggled, Renjun had always been such a cute person, ever since you first met, he was just really small and adorable, till marriage, he was still the same cutie you had come to know.

“Okay but in all seriousness, get up!” you pulled the blanket down and he immediately covered his eyes, hissing as if he’s a vampire or something which you rolled your eyes to. “Remind me why we have to plan a surprise party for Haechan’s promotion,” he spoke out, rubbing his eyes and stretching his arm.

“Because he’s our friend, and promotions are a big thing,” you said, looking at him. “The man forced us to plan it,” he said as he pulled the blanket above his head again, you pulled it down again, sighing, “Come onnnn, we don’t have all day.”

“And I can do this all dayyyyy,” he responded under the blanket.

“Fine, no more cuddles for you then,” you said getting off of the bed, well, you were about to until Renjun pulled your wrist, making you fall on the bed.

He quickly turned you so that your back was pressed against the soft mattress, “Yah! You little shit” he said as he started tickling you, you laughed out when he did, “Ok stop stop!” you moved about as you laughed when he kept tickling you with a smile.

“Take it back,” he said and you yielded with your palms on his chest and pushing him back, “Okay fine fine!” another loud hysterical laugh leaves your mouth before he stopped.

He takes your wrists in his hands pinning them down the bed, “Good,” he says, your laughing had died down and you just stared at each other in an adoring manner.

Renjun then leans down, closer and closer until he closes the gap between the two of you to press his pillow soft lips against yours. He hums in the kiss as you wrapped your arms around his neck pulling him closer to deepen the kiss.

After a few good blissful seconds, he pulls away, smiling at you fondly, “Well good morning handsome,” you said and Renjun chuckles.

“Morning bun,” he says, burying his face at the crook of your neck, “We could just stay like this,” he mutters, you ran your fingers through his silky hair, “I would like that, but we have to get up,” you say and he groans pushing himself up again.

“I love you Mr Huang,” you cup his face, staring into his eyes which had hearts on it, just for you.

“I love you too, Mrs Huang.”

Lately I haven't watched many like them just because the world is so stressful, so my brain just wants fluff? But all of the dramas below had me grabbing that tissue box!

Heart Breaking & Intense K-Drama Romances:

Come and Hug Me: I think this show broke a crying record for me. This is one of my absolute favorite k-dramas because of the way the couple was set up. Every time the leads would look at each other? *SOB* I loved this thriller with a super soft romantic backstory.

Chicago Typewriter: This K-drama has it’s backstory in a very interesting historical time period: during the Japanese Occupation. The past lives of freedom fighters find themselves linked together through a ghost in the current timeline. I personally loved this drama and cried a lot but most importantly, you KNOW I think it has the best kiss.

Angel’s Last Mission: Love: A perfect and sweet literal angel falls in love with a blind and betrayed ballerina. It’s got really cute moments but on the whole is very angsty and everyone is really really upset. Plus there’s the whole “they can’t be together because of god” stuff that adds that extra dagger of sadness.

Doom At Your Service: As a disclaimer, this drama is heavily flawed due to half of the show having a really boring story. But the other half? Fated tragic lovers, a god who hates himself and wants to destroy the world? SOLD. I wish I could cut the drama in half and only keep the fantasy plot line. And Seo In Guk like ALMOST became a bias wrecker for me, and if you can do that in a not that great drama? KING!

Flower of Evil: A psychological thriller centered around a jewelry maker who is running from his past, and his cop wife (power couple alert!) who doesn’t know his original identity. The chemistry of the couple is amazing and all of the characters are nuanced and interesting. I was on the edge of my seat, AND sobbing! Also, I finally understand Lee Jun Ki stans, he was SO GOOD in this!

Psycho But It’s Okay: A gorgeous k-drama featuring two brothers who lost their mother, and a beautiful & famous author who grew up in a traumatic and abusive household. Everyone is very closed off and holding onto intense pain, but the three come together to help one another move on and find happiness. There’s also a really pretty narrative theme featuring fairytales.

Extraordinary You: Taking a Boys Over Flowers genre and turning it upside down is this show’s specialty! It’s a magical drama people and without spoiling anything that’s all I’m going to say about the plot. I am in love with it regardless of some of its imperfections and I feel like it should be on everyone’s watch list. The OTP is fated and perfect and I live for them!!

Goblin: It’s been a while since I’ve put this on a list since I’m pretty sure most everyone has seen it, but it definitely fits this ask. While this fantasy show does have lighter moments, the overall story ramps up for a LOT of sad. I cried super duper hard the first time I watched (and who am I kidding? I also cried the second time ;-)

Reunited Worlds: This show has magical elements and it’s a noona romance so I loved it. Not a super popular show, but it was just the right tone for me. Yeo Jin Goo is a star in this and you will definitely cry multiple times as well as smile super wide!

Splash Splash Love: This is my favorite mini drama! Historical, fantasy, time traveling romance…it’s got all of the good stuff including some scenes that’ll make you tear up.

A Korean Odyssey/ Hwayugi: Creative and fun fantasy romance with demons and gods! It’s a bit flawed and the episodes are LOOOONG but the main couple is a good one and the zombie girl is definitely going to break your heart.

Thirty But Seventeen: Precious puppies with past trauma! Don’t be turned off by the shows description as it turned out to be one of the best surprises of the year for me. The leads are lovely, all of the characters are soft and there’s a lot of emotion.

It’s Okay That’s Love: One of my favorite dramas, the main topic is mental illness and for once, the K-drama writers did it justice! With trauma and mental illness comes sadness, but there’s a great mix of light-heartedness that makes this heartwarming story pretty amazing.

Just Between Lovers: This show is heavy on the melodrama and centers around a group of people who have dealt with a past trauma, killing members of their families. The lead couple made me fall in love with both of the actors, quickly making Lee Junho my bias wrecker. It also made me realize how much I love angst! It features real people (not rich heirs) which is a plus for me. If I can watch a love story that’s about healing from trauma through love and support…I’m in!

For people who haven’t seen it and want to be VERY sad, over and over again:

Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo: “Historical” K-drama with a ton of angst and heartbreak. Everyone who has seen this show knows exactly why I’m listing it first. I mean, if you want to cry your heart out and wail in despair episode after episode, this show is for you! But if you choose to watch it, I also want to apologize for ripping your heart out of your chest.

and of course one of my faves:

The Smile Has Left Your Eyes: A really nice girl falls for a hot mess of a guy who tragedy and crime follows around. He dated her best friend first and her police brother is mysteriously SUPER against him. A lot of secrecy, mystery and stress but this drama is one of my absolute favorites.

Q. I thought you said that you don’t write about depression/suicide?

A. I don’t write about suicide, I do however am comfortable enough to mention it in some fics, if I am comfortable enough to write it. I will add trigger warnings and a ‘keep reading’ link, I am not very comfortable with going into detailed depression, and any sort of mental illness.

Vincenzo-ing and (already) obsessed: First impressions on the new tvN drama

Legal jargons, attractive suits, polished shoes, and sleek wheels are just a few of the things that will usher you in the newly-aired legal-slash-mafia-themed K-drama, “Vincenzo”. Headlined by the superstar Song Joong Ki, “Be Melodramatic” actress Jeon Yeo Bin, and 2PM member and “Save Me” star Taecyeon, it’s safe to say that the tvN/Netflix show is off to a good start. As of March 2, “Vincenzo” reached a total of 10.2% in viewership ratings for its 4th episode, a 2% increase from its 3rd.

I’m not going to deny, though, that Song Joong Ki as the main lead was a slab of a reason why I decided to plunge back into K-dramaland despite my busy schedule. Its genres were a paramount enticement, given that I really am into legal dramas filled with cracking mysteries, and its mafia trope excited me to great extent. The synopsis intrigued me, and I probably would’ve seen it even if Song Joong Ki wasn’t the one to play Vincenzo Cassano.

The show keeps getting better and better and I can’t wait for more things to unfold before my eyes!

EPISODES 5 & 6 SPOILERS

Vincenzo Cassano is a mafia legal adviser who decided to return to his homeland, South Korea, after his boss’ death. He then ended up in a rundown building where he met the righteous lawyer Hong Yu Chan (Yoo Jae Myung) and his daughter, the tenacious attorney Hong Cha Young (Jeon Yeo Bin) from a big-shot law firm Wusang, where the clients are mostly the rich, powerful, and nefarious. Taecyeon portrays Jang Jun-woo who poses as a simpleton intern at Hong Cha Young’s office but is actually the secret boss of the Babel Group.

Right off the bat, the drama gifted me with a good amount of comedy as each character was being introduced. I also love the cinematography and aesthetic of the show.

Vincenzo and Hong Yu Chan, having the same desire to keep the building in spite of dissimilar reasons, joined forces to fight the Babel Group that has been trying to acquire the property via dirty means. Hong Cha Young, on the other hand, works to defend the organization despite obvious knowledge of its illicit operations.

The initial episodes delivered a lighter plot, until mood darkened and got serious when Hong Yu Chan was killed on the 3rd episode. As if a bomb was dropped, I didn’t expect his character to be killed off that soon. But I must say that Hong Yu Chan played a significant part in Vincenzo’s viewpoint and in bringing him and Hong Cha Young together.

Bereaved and believing that there was more to her father’s death, Hong Cha Young resigned from Wusang and teamed up with Vincenzo to seek justice. This is where Jeon Yeo Bin’s role began to frequently enter the picture, showing her brazenness and determination to restore her father’s honor. Jeon Yeo Bin is a fresh face, and her character slightly put me off at the beginning. But I soon enough got accustomed to Hong Cha Young’s quirks and found her charming, not gonna lie.

Hong Cha Young and Vincenzo eventually discovered that Choi Myung Hee (Kim Yeo Jin), the villainous prosecutor for 20 years and newly-recruited senior attorney at Wusang, was the mastermind of the murder of Hong Yu Chan. Although, I must say that I found it weird and unrealistic when Hong Cha Young faced her again as if the murder didn’t happen. (Like??????)

Nevertheless, the duo’s chemistry comes about as they fight against the Babel Group and set its sprawling lab of RDU-90, a lethal drug, in flames.

As the inferno went on, Jang Jun-woo emerged as the real, wicked boss of Babel Group. While the revelation was indeed a bolt from the blue, I had an inkling that there was more to Taecyeon’s character from the get-go, because I was somehow unconvinced that he was just going to be a dumbo intern from abroad throughout the series. He likes to cling to Hong Cha Young while masking his real identity, which suggests that he’s infatuated to her. The way he looks at Hong Cha Young and Vincenzo together also solidifies the hypothesis he has a crush on the feisty lady attorney.

Meanwhile, the 5th episode also had a moment of fluff and suggested the love line between Hong Cha Young and Vincenzo when the latter won in their bet, and smiled warmly as he stared at Hong Cha Young while her eyes were shut.

Surely, there are more of these moments to come, probably mushy or straightforward, who knows? But right now, the epic duo is busy as the plaintiff’s legal team, set to meet Kim Yeo Jin at the court, and now with full support from the previously skeptical tenants of the rundown building.

The episode ended with Vincenzo and Hong Cha Young making a grand entrance with their stylish outfits and sleek sports car, and the courthouse steps their fashion runway.

What I Watched This Week: February 16-23 (*Spoilers*)

Hello friends!

I am starting a new thing, where I will be writing reactions for the kdramas I watch every week. I try to avoid watching completed shows because I often just end up binge-watching them and so I only watching ongoing shows during the semester. However, this means that I have to wait nearly two months to write my reviews and analyses. Therefore, I am starting this new writing project. I hope you all will enjoy reading them!

Sisyphus: The Myth ( Thursdays and Fridays): This past week, I watched the first and second episodes of Sisyphus. Sisyphus stars Park Shin Hye and Cho Seung Woo, where the latter plays Han Tae Sul, an engineer and CEO of the successful company, Quantum and Time. On the other Park Shin Hye, plays the character, Kang Seo Hae, a mysterious young woman, that appears to have time travelled to warn Han Tae Sul. Its been a long time since I watched an action focused sci fi kdrama as I've been riding the rom-com wave for a while, but I was super excited to see Park Shin Hye in a drama. Park Shin Hye, was the first kdrama actress that I was introduced to, and my first kdrama was Doctors. However, this is my first Cho Seung Woo drama. So far, Sisyphus seems super interesting and after watching the first two episodes, I was left with many questions, especially surrounding Tae Sul's brother and why Seo Hae wants to meet Tae Sul ( it looks like they get married or atleast have a wedding, but I want to know more about the specifics about their relationship). Sisyphus has great potential as show. The only concern I have is that the plot may get too convoluted and become hard to follow along. Other similar dramas like The King Eternal Monarch seemed to fall into this trap.

Vincenzo (Saturdays and Sundays) : I also watched the first two episodes of Vincenzo starring Song Joong Ki, Jeon Yeo Been, Ok Taec Yeon, and Yoo Jae Myung. This is the second kdrama that I am watching Song Joong Ki in. The first one was the blockbuster hit "Descendants of The Sun", which starred him and his ex-wife Song Hye Kyo. After Descendants of The Sun, I spent a couple of months, obsessing over Song Joong Ki and was disappointed when I couldn't really commit to watching Arthdal Chronicles. Regardless, I absolutely LOVED the first two episodes of Vincenzo. Before watching Vincenzo, I did not know that it was a dark comedy, and thought it was a thriller, but the comedy in this show is top notch. Its hilarious seeing this dichotomy that exists with Song Joong Ki's Vincenzo Cassano. Vincenzo's the man that doesn't flinch when it comes to pulling the trigger, and yet, you see him on the brink of tears and frustration when the dry cleaners damage his vintage Italian suit. Also, though I initially watched this show for Vincenzo, Hong Cha Yeon stole my heart. She is spunky, hilarious, dramatic, and brilliant. Her character reminds me a lot of Jun Ji Hyun's Cheon Song Yi from My Love From The Star. My only concern with this drama is how reduced Ok Taec Yeon's role is. Ok Taec Yeon is a talented actor, who has succesfully acted in leading roles. Therefore, I found it disappointing to see him reduced as simply playing the dumb intern that exists for comic relief. I hope his character is more flushed out in future episodes!

She Would Never Know ( Mondays and Tuesdays): Finally, I watched Episodes 11 and 12 of She Would Never Know starring Won Jin Ah and Ro Woon. I didn't realize till today how far along I came with watching this show. I haven't been able to be as committed to watching She Would Never Know because it is not available on any mainstream streaming sites for free. Therefore, I have resorted to watching the show on Kiss Asian and the pop-up ads have been annoying. Regardless, She Would Never Know is definitely one of those slow burn dramas that don't make an immediate impact, but they grow on you over time. Cha Hyun Seung and Yoon Song Ah are finally in a relationship and I am here for the fluff! I also love how the show still manages to focus on their professional lives. I find the inner workings and conflicts that come with working for a major cosmetics company. I also am looking forward to seeing how the LGBTQI+ storyline with Cha Hyun Seung’s sister will play out and how Lee Jae Shin’s relationship with Hyo Joo will unfold. Hyo Joo is unfortunately a stereotypical kdrama character, who resorts to playing the unhinged crazy possessive girlfriend, who refuses to move on. At this point, Hyo Joo needs a therapist more than anything and I hope there is a redemption arc for her character. Also, I wish the show would go more into why she’s so hell bent on marrying Lee Jae Shin even though he’s from a lower social class and is frankly not attracted to her. Regardless, I want to give a special shout out to Ha-Eun she’s such a precious character! She really be out here giving better relationship advice than most adults.
