The CIA is trying to kill Danny
Now hear me out.
I stumbled upon this prompt idea where somebody wrote that they want to see a story where the CIA is trying to kill Clark Kent (not Superman, reporter Clark Kent), the reason is because that Clark Kent is a very good reporter. And everybody knows that a mark of a good reporter is that they die of natural causes, with bullets in their head. So that story would have centered around the CIA trying to kill Clark Kent and having no idea on how Clark Kent is still alive after the multiple attempts on his life.
Now this got me thinking.
In an AU where Danny is interning or working at the Daily Planet, probably under Clark or Lois.(you choose) And Danny is a really good reporter, his ghost powers help him gather information undetected. He's exposing corporations left and right, all ranging from either illegal animal experimentation, environmental pollution, horrible working conditions, toss in a couple of sleazy terrible rich people. So while all of his stuff is getting published and the govt is going, "we gotta stop that reporter." And proceed to constantly try to end this kid's life with no result. They try to poison food, Danny grew up eating radioactive food, if anything the poison is just added seasoning. They try to set up his place on fire, Danny's just conveniently not there. They try to have people tail him but they can't because Danny just disappears whenever he turns a corner.
And layers could be added to this, like Danny's just talking to Clark at work (y'know water cooler talk) and when Danny brings up all of these strange things happening to him like "people following him, the elevator at his place just conveniently broke down and crashed into the ground around the time he would have left for work, or how his usual food orders look a bit different than what they normally look like and they taste slightly different." And Clark is hearing all of this and is going "wait a minute!" and there's a scene of Clark walking with Danny as the kid is waiting for his uber and when the car pulls up. Clark uses his x-ray vision and spots the driver sporting guns, knives, poison gas (whatever CIA agents use for assassinations, I don't know) and just goes "Hey Danny did I ever take you to my favorite diner. No? GREAT! Let's go now!" and he just immediately drags Danny away from the murder car. And from that point on, Clark is taken it upon himself to stop all of the assassination attempts on Danny because he believes that Danny is a fragile young human being.
OR
This could be set in Gotham
And Danny is just exposing all of elites of Gotham, including Gotham's rogues and all of that song and dance. Which then leads him to be targeted by the Court of OWLS! Danny in this scenario would be friends with Tim, because they go to the same coffee shop and order the espresso on steroids drink. Danny tells him all of the stuff that's been happening to him and Tim goes "oh shit." In which he then tells the batsiblings. They all band together to protect Danny because he is a normal human being. (said nobody ever) So Danny becomes unofficially adopted by them. They don't tell Bruce about this because then they'll have to come to terms that they are just like him because they just took in a black haired blue eyed kid into their family.

there's a parallel in last life that I don't see talked about as much as it deserves and so I'm going to dissect the ever-living hell out of it. remember the ghast farm incident? everyone remembers the ghast farm incident. Grian turns red, he starts knocking blocks of a bridge out from under Mumbo, "there's a way we can still be friends," etc etc etc. it's fantastic. WELL. two sessions earlier, there's a similar confrontation between Scar and Joel after Joel turns red, except the roles are reversed. Joel approaches and it's Scar who starts breaking blocks of the bridge, trying to put distance between the two of them. HOWEVER, the interesting difference here is that Scar is doing it not because he doesn't want to be Joel's friend anymore, but because he still wants to be. lets take a look at a transcript of part of that scene, shall we?
[Scar breaks several blocks of the bridge.] Joel: Scar, what are you doing? I know you're not my friend anymore, but come on, Scar. Not the bridge. Scar: I wanted to make an arrangement. Are- are we not friends? Joel: We can't be friends, Scar. We can't be friends.
Scar knows that Joel is a red life and that he might hurt him, but he still wants to be friends, so he's providing a way that they can be near each other while he isn't in any danger by putting a gap in the bridge. he even breaks it again when he comes by to chat later. during that chat, Joel reminds him of how dangerous he is, Scar says he "gets it," and then proceeds to let him continue living under magical mountain. Scar doesn't "get" that he needs to be cautious of Joel—what he "gets" is that he's taking a risk by letting him stay and that he's already accepted something might happen. and he's OKAY with that. Joel is red. he gets it.
now compare that to this excerpt from the ghast farm incident:
Grian: Y'know, Mumbo, there's a way we can still be friends. Mumbo: Yeah? Grian: Yeah. [he starts breaking blocks at of Mumbo's feet] You could join me.
with Joel and Scar, it's a red life choosing to step away from his friend in order to protect him, while said friend tries to find a way that they can still be near each other without placing himself in danger. with Grian and Mumbo, it's a red life choosing to try to take his friend down with him so that they can be near each other because he can't accept not being his friend. the fact that in BOTH scenarios the friendship is symbolized by a bridge being broken is a perfect illustration of one of Grian's lines from the ghast farm incident: "it was a bad idea for the wrong reasons." those friendships should have been a good idea, those bridges should have been a good idea, but now they provide a connection that isn't safe, and they all know that.
and I'm not done talking about this. no no no no no. this offers a FASCINATING insight into why desert duo is Like That. Scar would sooner let Grian kill him than have to stop being his friend. Grian would sooner kill Scar than have to stop being his friend. which is all kinds of perfectly fucked up and explains exactly why 3rd life ended the way that it did. it also makes the cactus scene from double life very interesting to think about. remember the cactus scene? it's a doozy.
Grian starts session by dropping a stalactite on Scar's head as a prank and (unintentionally) taking them down to two and a half hearts. Scar then retaliates by leaning against a cactus until Grian breaks it. he then leans against Yet Another Cactus until Grian breaks that one too, at which point they are at only one heart. a question I've been asking since that day is this: if Grian hadn't broken the cactus, would Scar have stepped away before it was too late?
using bridge theory, we can find an answer to this.
the answer is no.
this isn't necessarily because Scar is actively trying to get them killed—it's more because he knows with absolute certainty that Grian will break the cactus. he's not prepared to step away because he isn't worried he needs to. see, the difference between Grian and Scar is that Grian is willing to throw around the lives of other people to get what he wants, and Scar is willing to throw around his own life to get what he wants (the fact that what they really want out of all this is often the other's trust is an issue I will dissect another day). once again, last life is the perfect example of this. Grian steals a life from Scar right off the bat and gets another one out of him by force a few episodes later. meanwhile, Scar makes a business out of selling his soul and threatens Team BEST that he'll kill himself in order to go red life crazy on them. and they don't doubt him! and they SHOULDN'T doubt him, because Scar is the kind of guy that would do that! the same way that Grian is the kind of guy who will drop a stalactite on his soulmate's head but break the cactus he's leaning against.
Grian is willing to risk Scar's life, but he's not okay with Scar risking his own life, because he knows that he's completely willing to stand against a cactus until he dies if it makes a point. so Grian breaks it.
but Scar knows Grian as well as Grian knows him. Scar knows that this is hardly a risk at all. so he leans against the cactus a third second time.

summary: you're filming your first romance movie that features a sex scene with harry potter (early 20's), an actor you've only ever seen on the big screen. despite both of your nerves, a growing chemistry between you two leads to something more in the dressing room.

you were currently sitting in the hair and makeup chair chatting with the stylist about each other's respective careers, laughing and messing around before your official call time. you always went out of your way to talk to the crew on any set you worked, not just to be respectful, but also to make everyone comfortable around you right away.
it was a little hard to grasp from your perspective as you were only thrust into the spotlight a few years ago, but you were in enough successful movies that you were now pretty recognizable to most people. not that long ago you were just like everyone else, a fan of celebrities yourself who went to premiers and fawned over meeting them. today, those same people are technically your coworkers. it's something you're still learning to accept as your new normal.
that being the case, it was easy for people to feel a bit intimidated by you. you were well-liked, by both fans and people in the industry, and already highly-acclaimed with quite a few notable awards/nominations under your belt in just a couple years. and while you took your acting seriously, in your real life you were very different from the stoic characters you played. funny, warm, personable, always trying to lighten the mood - you were a pleasure to work with in every sense, so the intimidating preconception people had of you would quickly melt away.
"wow, jen, it must be so cool being able to work with so many celebrities all around the world," you sighed. the stylist, jenny, gives you a bewildered look in the reflection of the mirror. "well, you do that too y'know? you're one of those celebrities that people will ask me, 'oh my god, what's she like?'" she laughs at you, finishing up the final details of your hair.
you give her a half smile, feeling a blush rise on your cheeks. "okay, well, i guess…but it's not the same. i'd love to travel as much as you do. i know it's for work, but i'm sure you get to see some pretty incredible places," you gush. jenny smiles back at you.
"i do, it's nice and all, but you get to be on the big screen with some pretty handsome faces," she teases. "i mean, that movie with timothee you just did?" she practically moans. "i would do anything for that boy," she laughs.
your blush only worsens. being a young woman in the industry you're very often paired with actors around your age, almost always men, to have a romance plot line with. it seems like no matter how artistic, action-packed, or sad the movie is, they just can't let you leave without having you makeout with said actor at least a million times before getting 1 good take. after a while it becomes so routine that it loses all novelty. kissing becomes meaningless and these 'heartthrobs' just become coworkers to you.
"please, timothee's like my brother at this point," you roll your eyes, pulling out your phone to check the time. just a few more minutes before you have to leave and be on set. "and i'd much rather do his makeup than makeout with him in front of everyone again," you laugh, putting your phone back in your pocket.
"well, y'know, i was doing the potter boy's makeup just before i came in. wouldn't mind making out with him a few times, lucky duck," she teases you, starting to pack up her equipment.
harry potter. the name was familiar to you. he was an actor around your age who started getting more roles at the same time you did. you always seemed to miss each other at award shows and premiers, so you haven't been properly introduced yet, but you had been somewhat excited to work with him on this movie.
it was your first proper romance, a book adaptation that you had actually read just a few years prior on your own. you knew the director well and you were his first choice when casting the lead role. at first you were a bit hesitant to accept because you didn't even enjoy the little romance you did in your previous movies, so you weren't sure how you'd feel doing an entire film centered on it. but robert, the director, had convinced you to at least read the script, and you were hooked from there.
it was less of a romance and more of a drama, focused on the downfall of a marriage due to the wife, you, having an affair. that's where potter came in. you learned he was cast for the role of the 'side piece' only a month or so before filming began, and you weren't sure how to feel. on one hand, like jenny said, he wasn't bad looking from what you had seen in his films. however, when you previously did these types of scenes with costars, you at least knew them previously and could be friendly with them between takes. you had never met potter, not even seen him off-screen, and now you have to have an entire affair with him on camera.
that's another thing. you've only ever done heated kissing scenes before, maybe a little undressing and implied nudity, but nothing too explicit. this would be your first real 'sex scene', which just added another layer of awkwardness to the situation on top of not even knowing the basics about each other. to say you were anxious about filming those scenes would be an understatement.
"then you can take my place, cuz i'm not looking forward to it. you know i've never even met him before?" you ask as you stand up from the chair, stretching your body after sitting for over 2 hours. "just gonna introduce myself like, 'yeah, hi, i'm [y/n], nice to meet you. you ready to pretend to fuck passionately for the next 4 hours in front of the catering staff?'" you joke, putting on a voice and pretending to shake jenny's hand. she laughs at you, pulling her hand back and waving you away.
"oh hush, you're gonna do just fine. hell, you might even like it." she gives you a smirk as you just laugh her off. you exchange goodbyes with her, wishing her well and thanking her excessively for her time.
as you're walking through a maze of hallways to find your set, you run into robert. he looks like he's seen a ghost when you greeted him.
"oh…[y/n]...i've been meaning to talk to you…" he says nervously, trying to keep his tone positive. you narrow your eyes at him. you've worked with robert long enough to know when he's about to tell you something he knows will annoy you.
"robert…" you warn him, a hint of sarcasm in your voice. he sighs. "look, just walk with me." he tells you as he walks away, motioning you to follow.
as you catch up to him, he begins trying to find the best way to break the news to you. "see, well…we uh…we think it's best if, uh…maybe…" he stammers, causing you to look at him with concern. you've never seen him this nervous to tell you something. "what? just spit it out, rob." you tell him.
he sighs again, rubbing his forehead. "look, casting just isn't sure on this potter kid yet. we've shot a couple of his solo scenes already, but…" he trails off, trying to find the words again.
"but…?" you ask confused. he gives you an apologetic look. "but…we just need to see his chemistry with you first." robert says. you're just more confused, staring at him blankly. robert slows to a stop and turns to you, his hands raised in innocence.
"it's not my idea, but cast wants you and potter to shoot the sex scene today so they can decide if we're keeping him or not," he admits regretfully.
you're completely dumbfounded. there's a few moments of silence before you can even conjure up a response. "what?"
he sighs yet again, clearly stressed about the situation. "i know, trust me, i know, you weren't excited to do this scene to begin with but…think about it this way," his voice turns to the same fake positivity to try and reassure you.
"if we shoot all the lovey dovey stuff first just to find out there's no chemistry during the sex scene, then we just wasted all your time, all his time, and a lot of money…" he reasons with a strained voice. you're still giving him a death glare, arms crossed, not buying his excuses.
"robert, that doesn't even make any sense. wouldn't we build chemistry over time like any other movie? i thought i had at least a couple weeks to get to know this kid before… you know…" you trail off, blushing from both frustration and embarrassment.
"i know, i know, but cast is really pushing for this other guy, but i've wanted potter in this role as long as i've wanted you as my lead." he says desperately, his hands literally pleading with you. "please, [y/n], i know this isn't cool of me, but i'll do anything you need from me for the rest of filming. for the rest of my life!" he's joking, but there's a hint of seriousness in his voice. "just, please?"
you're still glaring at him, not happy that you're being put in this predicament. you take a second to breathe, trying to think past your anger, and see this from an outside perspective. realistically, even if you and potter did have chemistry outside of the sex scene, it didn't necessarily mean it would transfer over. by filming that first and getting it out of the way, there would be no awkward building of tension over the next few weeks knowing what's to come. and who's to say there even is any chemistry? then they'd end up having to switch him out for an entirely different actor, which could up a lot of time for paperwork and legal fees…
sighing, uncrossing your arms, you give robert a look of defeat. "fine."
robert's relieved, thanking you profusely as he continues to show you the way to the stage. he's trying to babble on about how you're going to do great, and there's nothing to be afraid of, but you can't focus on his words even a little bit because your heart is thumping so loud.
as you walk into the bustling room with robert leading the way, you can't help but search the room for potter's face. you want to at least see who you're going to be dry humping from 4 different angles.
recognizing different crew members you've worked with before, you smile and say hello to each of them as you continue analyzing each face in the room. you only kind of know what he looks like, so it might be a fruitless search, but it's the only thing that can distract you from your growing anxiety.
robert brings you to the catering table, telling you to make sure you eat and drink some water before being pulled into conversation with someone else and, eventually, leaving you behind completely. whatever, you think, he wasn't helping anyway.
grabbing for a water bottle, you drink at least half of it before feeling a tap on your shoulder. you're twisting the cap back on as you turn around.
harry potter.
you can instantly tell it's him, though he's now wearing glasses, something you don't remember seeing in his movies. he has a shy, nervous smile as he offers you his hand. "[y/f/n] [y/l/n], right? i'm harry potter," he introduces himself. "i guess we'll be filming together for the day."
you smile and shake his hand. "harry, hi, it's nice to meet you. and, yeah, i guess so…" you reply shyly, noticing that your hands are sweating, as well as his. he chuckles just a bit, reaching for a water bottle as well.
"yeah, i take it robert talked to you already?" he asks before he takes a drink. you nod, giving him an awkward smile. "he did…" you chuckle as well. "just a minute ago, actually."
harry nods in return. "yeah, he came by my room not even an hour ago to let me know." he states.
there's a few moments of awkward silence between the two of you before harry sighs and sets his water bottle down. he turns to you with his hands up just like robert.
"look, let's not be coy, yeah? this is weird as hell." harry states bluntly, a look of guilt on his face.
you let out a surprised laugh, setting your water bottle down as well. you turn to him, giving him your attention, curious to see what else he has to say.
harry briefly looks you up and down, his hands still raised. there's a hint of anxiety in his eyes before he blinks and shakes his head. "and, i'm just a big fan of yours in general, and this is really not how i wanted my first sex scene to play out, especially with you…" he emphasizes, his eyes widening at his own words.
"not that i didn't want it to happen at all, i definitely did, just, like…" he groans, throwing his head back and covering his face with his hands in frustration. you can't help but giggle at his nervous antics. you didn't know what to expect in terms of his personality, but you certainly didn't think he'd be so humble and shy. most actors you meet close to your age are either full of themselves or try too hard to be something they're not. you've made friends with plenty who aren't like that, but it's definitely more common than you expected.
with harry, however, he seemed very honest right away. he wasn't putting on a face to impress you, if anything he was failing miserably at that…but you found it really admirable. he reminded you of yourself, in a way.
after hearing you giggle at him, harry looks back at you with flushed cheeks. his brunette hair, an already messy fringe, was now even more disheveled. you continue to giggle at his expression, covering your smile as you look him up and down as well. tired converse, blue jeans, a maroon zip up, and a plain blue polo. you'd never think this kid was a famous actor based on his appearance. even his glasses looked old and bent out of shape.
but again, you found it admirable. no designer names, no flashy accessories. not that you found anything wrong with either of those things, it's just what you're used to seeing. it was refreshing, harry's simplicity.
he awkwardly chuckles with you, wringing his hands together nervously. "uh, what i'm meaning to say is…" he trails off. you interrupt his thoughts. "i know what you're saying," you reassure him. he looks back up at you. "you do?"
you laugh again. he's oddly innocent despite his age. "i do. i've never done this before, either." you admit. "oh, i know, i've seen all of your films plenty of times," harry beams, his nervousness melting away a bit. you're taken aback by his statement. "oh?" you respond.
he nods proudly. "oh yeah, i'm just a big film person in general so i'm constantly watching them at home. or on the plane. or in the dressing rooms…" he laughs. you smile warmly at him. again, something about him is so genuine to you. not afraid to be a fan.
"but, anyways, yeah, i just love your work. and i know you've worked with robert before, so i was over the moon when i heard he wanted me to work with you guys. that was one of my favorite films that year, y'know? definitely deserved more recognition than it got." harry rambles. 
blushing, you give him an incredulous look. "yeah, we have worked together before. i-i loved that film." you're clearly impressed with his knowledge of you and of cinema in general. that film wasn't even all that popular, and definitely not your most well-received work as far as the critics went. "thank you. really."
harry's smiling at you, admiring you in a way.
you blink a few times to come back to reality. "u-um, i love your work, too. i actually just went and saw your most recent one twice, before robert even told me we'd be working together." 
harry's shocked, his mouth slightly agape and eyes wide. "you…you've seen my movies?" he asks with a slight smile.
again, you can't help but giggle at him. his humility just keeps surprising you. "of course i have. you're not the only actor who enjoys films, y'know?" you tease him. he laughs, shaking his head.
"yeah, i'm…i'm just surprised, i figured you might not be familiar with me at all, really," he shrugs, still sounding in shock.
"well, we always miss each other at shows and such, i always meant to introduce myself, but…" you trail off. "i know! tell me about it! i've wanted to meet you for ages, seriously," harry gushes. 
smirking, you cross your arms and shift your weight. "well, what do you think now that we've met?" you ask, mostly sarcastically but also curious about his response.
he clears his throat, the nervousness coming back slightly. "u-uh, well, um…" he stumbles. "quite honestly, i didn't think you could be more beautiful in person." he admits like a schoolboy with a crush.
his response gives you butterflies. he's so adorably innocent, but such a gentleman at the same time. at no point does his admiration for you feel manufactured or forced. it's like he's truly just happy to be with you in this moment.
"well…thank you, harry," you respond. "you're not so bad yourself. i really adore the glasses." you admit with a blushing smile.
harry perks up immediately. "really?" he asks, excited and shocked at the same time. "they're prescription, actually, i'm blind as a bat…but no director wants me to wear them, they say i look like a total nerd," harry laughs, but you can tell it saddens him.
"nerds are hot." you shrug. harry's stunned for a moment before chuckling, his eyes softening for you. "right."
you and harry continue to chat for a while, losing all sense of time as the crew continue to work around you. you're mostly discussing films you both enjoy, and have incredibly similar taste. you love all the same directors, and grew up watching the same stuff.
this eventually leads to talking about both of your starts in acting, which are also strikingly similar. you discuss your experience so far as a woman in hollywood and he listens intently, asking questions with genuine curiosity and concern. he tells you about his experiences with theater growing up and the connections he made throughout his time performing.
you're completely enthralled with the conversation and feel like it could go on for days without any complaint. it's not until you hear robert calling both of your names that you look at the time and realize you've been talking with harry for nearly an hour and a half, but it feels like you just started 10 minutes ago.
harry follows you towards robert who's talking to the wardrobe team. you recognize a few faces and excitedly greet them, asking how everyone's been.
"potter, [y/n], these lovely folks are gonna walk you through how this works as far as clothing, don't be afraid to ask questions," robert told you both distractedly, his head already turned away before he ran off to help someone else out on set.
you and harry are separated and put into your respective outfits for your characters, as well as specific underwear for the scene. looking in the mirror at yourself in a simple dress, you can't help but feel the nerves coming back to you as you realize you actually have to film this scene with harry soon.
harry…
when you come back, he's already in his outfit and waiting for you. he's in an earth tone suit, his glasses taken off and his tie slightly undone. you have to admit that he looks extremely handsome, and decide to tell him so with a smirk. "says the most gorgeous girl in the room," he instantly quips, but you can see the blush blooming over his cheeks.
the wardrobe team basically teaches you both how to take off your clothes in a "movie style" that looks best on screen. specific movements can obstruct certain body parts from the camera, some take less time than others depending on what you're wearing, just little things that keep you from having to constantly reshoot the scene.
after a few tries of swiftly removing your dress, and taking glances at harry as he took his button-up off, you start to get the idea and have the motion memorized. you're laughing with one of the assistants you've met previously about the task and catching up with her in general. harry comes up behind you and also recognizes her, giving her a friendly hug. you're impressed with how personable he is with her, asking about her schooling and her roommates, parts of her life you hadn't even known about. you couldn't help but be in awe of him. he really was like you in so many ways.
before you get too comfortable, the wardrobe team informs you and harry that you have to also practice taking each other's clothes off for the camera. obviously, you thought, but you were still a bit shocked at the news.
you turned to harry, who's already waiting for you with that familiar smile. you smile back nervously. "hey, it's alright. it's just me." harry reassures you. the tone of his voice is so comforting it actually helps settle your nerves a decent amount.
both of you basically learn what the other person learned, you taking off harry's suit jacket and tie as he lifts your dress in one swift motion. the first run through you're a bit nervous and end up giggling most of the time. harry also laughs with you, making the atmosphere less tense. 
"feels like a dance, oddly enough," harry says, pretending to dance with you. you laugh and agree, dancing along with him.
after a few more awkward tries, you both start to get the hang of it and feel more comfortable with each other both physically and emotionally. you're cracking jokes, helping teach the other how to unclothe themselves quicker, just having a good time that comes so naturally to both of you. it doesn't take too many tries before you can efficiently take off each other's clothes without giggling or accidentally tickling the other.
before long you're both placed on set, a mock living room that resembles the apartment of harry's character. you and harry are given a few simple, non-sexual scenes to start with. the scripts are kept close by in case either of you need a refresher, but you both seem to have your lines memorized well and go through the scenes very naturally.
you were familiar with harry's acting of course, but something about how he performed his lines with you struck a different chord. his emotions were so raw, his timing felt natural, and his eyes told a whole story on their own. at one point you got so lost in them you missed a beat, quickly correcting yourself and focusing your gaze elsewhere.
you only had to redo them one or two times before moving on to the next scenes, which included kissing. you could feel your heart start to race again before harry's hands found their way to your shoulders from behind, a soft but firm grasp that sent chills down your spine.
"remember, it's just me," harry mumbles to you, coming around the side of you with a reassuring expression. somehow he knows exactly how to ease your nerves, and does it at the perfect times.
you're moved from the couch to the 'front door' area, where robert has you and harry mimic the steps he wants you to take before the cameras start rolling. "[y/n] opens the door, harry grabs her hand and pulls her back in," he directs you two like puppets as he shows you how and where to stand.

buying a flat with jude was something the two of you had talked about for a while now. what had started off as passing comments about how nice it would be to have your own space, to not be interrupted by people constantly, had turned into full blown planning. you'd looked for places together in the early hours of the morning, cuddled up beneath his sheets, pointing out which ones looked the nicest and after a few months of deliberating you finally found the perfect flat. you were still young and more than a little eager and so as soon as you'd been handed the keys you'd made the decision to move in, lack of furniture be damned.
the flat was already decorated, plain and simple but you had no issues with doing it up to your own taste but unfortunately for you it didn't come fully kitted out which meant you probably should have spent the next week or so at jude's old house until you bought everything you needed. but no, this place was yours and bed or not, you wanted to be in it. your afternoon had been spent buying an air mattress and a few paper plates and cups, plastic knives and forks, dragging bags of clothes and necessities from your car up to the flat. it was bare and a little cold but it was yours, and ridiculous as it was, you didn't care how long it took to furnish it as long as you did it together.
"so you're telling me you'd be happy to spend the rest of your life sleeping on an air bed with a laptop for a tv and nothing else?" jude set the two cups down on the floor, just slightly away from the mattress to avoid knocking them over and reached for the pizza box. you let him take it, flopped yourself down on one side of the bed as he lowered himself next to you, pizza box dropping into the centre of the duvet.
"it's not so bad." you sent him a teasing look. "you're here." he hummed softly, lips tilting into a matching grin and let his hand reach for your face, fingers tilting your chin upwards. his lips met yours, soft and light, a gentle brush that sent sparks through all of your nerves and made your head spin.
"you're a flirt." pressing one last, fleeting kiss to the corner of your mouth he pulled back, turned his attention to your opened laptop, netflix blinking from the screen. "what we watching? and if you say she's the man again i'm leaving and sleeping in the car."
"i don't know why you pretend to hate it so much, i've caught you grinning at the kissing booth scene." you reached for the laptop and set it on your knee, finger running along the mouse pad as you began to scroll through endless movies and shows. jude shuffled closer to you, pressed his body against yours, his hand propping himself up just behind you, his chin hooking over your shoulder.
"you're a liar."
"so are you. you think i can't see the stuff you watch when you're away. clueless? really?" jude huffed, pushed his face into your neck to hide his smile because you'd totally caught him out. his lips were soft over your skin when he spoke.
"in my defence, i'm a huge paul rudd fan." you only hummed, skin heating up when he turned to pressing kisses over your shoulder, fingers tugging the sleeve of your (his) shirt to give him more space to work with. his kisses were soft and adoring, quiet reminders that he loved you and they caused a riot of flutters in your tummy. he was still watching over your shoulder, gaze trailing over movie options.
he pointed at the screen suddenly. "why don't we watch a horror?"
"are you serious?"
"what? it's nearly halloween and they're better than your sappy romance ones."
"it's so not nearly halloween."
"hush, yes it is. gimme it here, i wanna choose." rolling your eyes you let him take the laptop, hid your smile when he kissed your cheek before shifting away slightly. you reached for the pizza box, pulled a slice free and brought it up to take a bite, holding it in front of jude’s lips only a second later. his eyes didn’t leave the screen as he bit into it but he mumbled a garbled “thanks”, head nodding at the screen.
“what about the purge?”
“if we’re gonna watch a horror you have to at least make it scary.”
“oh that’s how you want it? fine.” he finally glanced at you, or rather the pizza, and his eyebrows bent together. “still think we should have got pineapple.” you glared at him, pulled your slice back when he made to take another bite.
“i don’t like pineapple on pizza.”
“you’ve never even tried it.”
“so? i still know i don’t like it.”
“ridiculous.” he wrapped his fingers light around your wrist to tug your hand towards his face and took an unnecessarily large bite from the pizza, his eyes teasing when you pushed at his arm. “demons or murder?” you only shrugged, settling your head against his shoulder to see the screen a little better, curious what your options were.
“both.” his hum tickled the top of your head and for the next few minutes you were silent, jude searching for a good film while you shared your slices of pizza. your head and heart felt fuzzy when he took the last part of the crust into his hand and kissed the pads of your fingers and you didn’t have to look at him to know he was grinning. three slices in, he had settled on a film.
“you seen sinister?”
“no, i don’t think so.” you peered at the screen, pushing the pizza box on to the floor as you shrugged your shoulders. “looks good.”
“you won’t cry if it’s too scary, will you?”
“shut up, bellingham.” the kitchen light was still on, a little too bright considering there was a soft glow from the bathroom light and you flashed jude a sickly sweet smile. “can you turn that off?”
“can’t do it yourself?” despite his words he was already lifting off the mattress, sock clad feed sliding over the floor and it took all your willpower to keep your eyes on his face and not his bare chest. his joggers were low on his hips and one glance would have you stumbling over your words.
“don’t wanna.”
“scared the bogeyman’s gonna get you from in the cupboards?”
“have i ever told you how annoying you are?”
“he might grab your ankle when you go to the toilet.” he waggled his eyebrows, flicked off the light and made his way back over. you could only glare at him, lips turned into a slight pout because you knew he was trying to scare you and you also knew there would be no way you’d go to the bathroom on your own after watching the film. “maybe he’ll sneak out from under the sink.”
“jude.” your tone was whiney and it only made him laugh, his body bouncing lightly beside yours when he got back to the bed. you’d already pulled the duvet over yourself and settled back on one of the pillows and jude shuffled himself beside you, propped himself up on his elbow and tickled his other hand over your side.
“least nothing can hide under the bed.”
“i hate you.”
“awe baby, c’mon, y’know i’ll save you.” still grinning, he leant down and bumped his nose over yours, kissed the tip of it. “you’re too pretty to die.” your eye roll and shove to his chest brought out an unexpected laugh from him, one that sounded more like a snort and he rubbed his nose against your cheek, splattered kisses over your face. “m’sorry, if you give me a kiss i’ll shut up.”
“you don’t know how to do that.” jude looked at you through his lashes, rubbed a soothing thumb over your ribs, a back and forth motion that made goosebumps scatter over your skin. he stared at you until you huffed a soft laugh, one that tickled his cheek and then your arms were hooking around his neck, one hand flat against his head to pull him down, lips pressing warm over his. he made a soft noise of happiness, a content hum and tilted into you, lowered his elbow so he could brush his thumb over your cheek, trace the curve of your jaw.
you weren’t sure how long you laid there, jude’s fingers soft over your skin, his lips and tongue and teeth teasing and loving all at once but you were breathless and a little lightheaded when you finally managed to pull away from each other. your lips tingled and he brushed his thumb over the bottom one, swiped away the remnants of his kisses.
“the movie.”
“trying to distract me so you don’t have to watch it?”
“y’know, i’m kinda getting the feeling you don’t wanna watch it.”
“i suggested it.”
“can always un-suggest it. we haven’t watched bridget jones’ baby in forever.” jude only rolled his eyes and pushed back up on his elbow, nudged your side lightly.
“shut up and turn around.” your giggle had him fighting a smile as you did as he said, pulling the laptop closer and rolling on to your side. he was quick in settling behind you, chest flush against your back, his foot finding it’s way between yours, hands tugging the duvet up to your shoulders. he was warm and firm, comforting and familiar and you couldn’t stop yourself from nestling back into him, pulling his arm around your body.
“promise you’re not gonna chicken out on me.” you could feel the movement of his chin against the top of your head when he spoke, his breath fanning over your hair. instead of answering you pressed play, threaded your fingers through his and held his hand against your chest. he was quiet for a few minutes, scenes rolling over the screen, scenes that had both of your grimacing, jude’s nose pushing into the back of your head. a huff suddenly tore from him, made you jolt in his hold and then his hand left yours and reached for the laptop, fingers tapping over it.
“okay, no, i’m un-suggesting, this is awful. paul rudd or channing tatum?”

a recreation of a sonic fanfiction i wrote when i was 10
ok y'all, some context is needed.
we have a song called cassiopeia coming out tonight. i made a tiktok that said if the sound for cassiopeia is used 100 times, i'll publish the sonic fanfiction i wrote when i was 10 that i joke about a lot but have never shared. anyway, this happened in an hour. i am shocked. i did not expect it to happen so quickly, if at all. i begin my search.
well, it turns out i can't publish it because the places it was published no longer exist, and 10 y/o me didn't back it up (although i thought i had). bummer. an early internet relic gone.
either way, the plot details are seared into my memory because honestly? for some reason, that small act of creativity was a core memory in my life. so while i can't share it, i can retell it, because it's silly and pretty accurately captures what it's like to be 10 and obsessed with a piece of popular media. so here goes.

SCENE OPENS
the fanfiction was about a page long. the story opens with me - in school, as i did most every day of my life up to that point. in the story, sonic/tails/knuckles live in the human world, and essentially function as superheroes. there's no explanation for it, they just are there keeping the earth safe and such. we are also friends. there is no explanation or backstory for that either.
with the setting established, we're straight into the action; an alien pod crash lands in our school playground after school. me and my friend are the only kids left. where are the teachers? who knows. as is evident, worldbuilding was not my strong point.
anyway, in this alien pod is...an alien. it was a spider that looked a lot like the facehuggers from the alien film franchise, because i'd seen a clip of that as a kid and it freaked the hell out of me. i call sonic (where did i get a mobile phone from?) and let him know something Serious is going down. sonic and tails arrive - knuckles is too busy trying to get the master emerald back from doctor robotnik in this instance.
my friend and i take a back seat and let sonic and tails deal with the weird alien thing. they deal with one, but as soon as they get rid of it 10 other capsules drop in the area. sonic and tails can't take them all, so me and my friend join in to help take them out. i didn't really account for how, but we're fighting all back to back and it's very epic. (sonic x was the prevailing sonic show at the time, and it was y'know - very dramatic. so this was like a scene from that.) tails even brings in the tornado two, his personal plane, to run rings around them. after we finish the final facehugger alien off, a final alien pod descends. but out of this pod emerges...
shadow the hedgehog.
the aliens had been sent by him, and he was here to take sonic down. this was all part of his master plan.
the piece then ended, because i suppose i was going to follow it up at some point. but alas, that did not happen.
moral(s) of the story:
archive the silly stuff you wrote when you were a kid, it'll be fun to look back on later.

These two continue to ask each other the most insanely intimate things while staring into each other's eyes, and it's bonkers
But this whole episode was just... one long conversation that answered Sailom's first question here:

"Do I have any influence over you?"
Now, ignoring the fact that this is handily answered by Kang's renewed interest in studying after the "Can you do this for me?" exchange in the pool (another totally normal and not at all insane conversation).
And then we see exactly how Kang's relationship with Sailom has influenced him (and, y'know, the whole "the windmill needs the wind" candlelit conversation, holy shit).
First, right after the question, Kang has an existential crisis and thinks about how Sailom has influenced him so far (pool scene included)

(There's also the whole study montage, which is gonna have to be its own post, but we see Kang be serious and dedicated to his studies, and then playful with Sailom, and allowing himself to be vulnerable enough to fall asleep on him.)
Then, we get midterms day.
Kang is anxious, he's struggling, he's lost confidence, and is also likely still thinking about how Sailom keeping his job as his tutor is dependent on him passing. Him continuing to be able to spend time with Sailom is dependent on him passing. Babygirl is feeling the pressure.
But then, Sailom passes him the eraser, and you can see (in the scene, not these screenshots, oops) that Kang is surprised, he's not sure what to expect-- is it another tell off? is it a cheat sheet because Sailom wants to keep his job and because he doesn't think Kang can do it?-- but then, it's encouragement. It's "trust me, you can do it".
And Kang goes from panicking and stressing out to Determined Boy immediately. Because Sailom believed in him.

After Kang fails chemistry and Sailom is no longer his tutor, we continue to see how Sailom has influenced him.

He and his friends don't cut the line, they move on. Kang isn't actively playing games on class, he goes to eat and ends up staring at the place where Sailom sat last time he was at the restaurant and thinking about how much Sailom enjoyed the meal.

He signs up to work on the organizing team instead of the sports team, practically vibrating with hope that he will get to work with Sailom (Sailom is, too, look at his face in this scene! They both want to stay in each other's lives, but don't know how), and they're both devastated when they aren't paired up.
When he sees Sailom with the man at the cafe, he goes through like, half the stages of grief in three seconds as he processes Pimfah's question and then realizes what's happening.
He's so distracted by his concern that he can't stop staring.

He asks his grandmother to hire Sailom back, and it's enough for her to change her mind, and to recognize that Kang has changed.
He says this cuckoo-bananas line to his grandmother.
A month ago, he wanted to beat this boy bloody, and now he can't function without him, and he doesn't want to.

And if Sailom doesn't understand that he has an absurd amount of influence over Kang at this point, then the boy is not as smart as everyone thinks he is, because Kang is studying on a day off.
Kang, who used to swear he was studying as he booted up his game system.
And! He only steps away from studying when Sailom initiates a product placement themed twist on "playfully spray your crush with a hose"!

In a very short time, Sailom has become so important to Kang that he was just in a sad boy haze until he figured out how to get Sailom back.
I wonder if he realizes that he's become important to Sailom, too. Because Sailom was also at peak sad boy while they were separated by circumstance.
This is all obviously super unhealthy, that Kang is wrapping so much of his motivation and self worth up in Sailom and his approval and presence in his life, but like... that's why we're here, right? (Also, the dynamics that are at play here are fascinating, and if I ever get my thoughts about it in order I'm going to write a damned essay)
Anyway, I will not be normal about them until they figure out how to be normal about each other, which is going to be never, so I hope y'all are in this with me.

man i think part of what fucks me up (/pos) about the wedding scene (klk) is how well it conveys that the fantasy junketsu puts on ryuko is not a romantic one.
like i think it would've been really easy to make it about her wanting to find a man who could take care of things for her or love her unconditionally and when mako busts her out the message is You Don't Need A Man! You're A Strong Independent Woman!! or something (which is a perfectly fine message btw. i bring it up because i suspect that's how some people read it, especially those who see ryuko as straight, in an utena-hetero-girlboss way (yes i HAVE encountered that reading before. head in my hands)). maybe there's a montage of the groom and her at romantic milestones (confession, proposal, dates, moving in, whatever), and mako busts in while they're exchanging rings or leaning in for a kiss or something. they could have done that.
but the show puts SO little focus on the groom, to the point of emphasizing his facelessness and lack of relevance to the fantasy and its appeal (see the door handle knocking him over and ryuko not noticing, too busy looking at mako), that i think it's impossible to read it that way. and that's great bc what's actually there is so much more interesting and thematically relevant.
ryuko wants a normal childhood with a mom who loves her and spends time with her doing typical family stuff, who sticks with her as she grows up. the fantasy is of a normal development and family structure, of assimilation into a typical path of life for a woman, with its typical milestones. that includes getting married to a man. the fantasy is being naturally what society wants her to be, what will allow her to connect most easily to others within it. she's always butted heads with others, never fitting in for reasons she can't really understand, or often because she thinks the rules themselves are stupid. that came with isolation. loneliness.
the fantasy of junketsu's wedding is of conformity. it is also of conformity without effort, without awareness.
she doesn't want to force herself to fit in, because she knows that feels like shit. she wants it to be seamless. second nature. that's what junketsu appeals to. not the fantasy of pretending to be straight or becoming straight, but simply being straight.
(if it isn't clear by now, i view ryuko as a lesbian. this scene is a big part of why.)
it's ryuko pretending to be (and to always have been) something that will never cause her trouble, that will never alienate her. (or junketsu making her pretend that, though i think it caters to a lingering insecurity of ryuko's, that lack of stability, connection, and conformity in her real life).
it's also part of why mako and senketsu's rescue is not about mako being the right one for ryuko, but about ryuko's identity. her core state of being. who she is as a person.
(personally i read ryuko and mako as romantic (and i believe the show does as well, hence, y'know, the date and the mako hallelujah imagery during her asking her out and mako hitting on her and and and. sorry but however you feel about them as a ship they are definitively canon), and the scene does have romantic appeal/a romantic angle to it. but i think that romance comes from mako understanding ryuko deeply, and from calling her back into the person she is, rather than the person she could have been were she to have lived a Completely Different Life, and showing her that she has community and companionship even without this. she can be part of a group without doing all this shit. she doesn't have to fight alone, and this wedding business isn't the only way out of that loneliness. it's a gesture of love and concern for her as a person, one that comes from senketsu and mako together, the people who love her the most.)
ragyo wants conformity. she is a fascist. she wants everybody to wear the same clothes, to be in their proper place in society, and to submit to those who have rightful power over them. A hierarchy with life fibers at the top and humans at the bottom. ragyo designs and distributes the roles (clothes) people ought to wear, talks about clothes that don't suit people, etc. she wants ryuko to conform like she is, and like she has. a feelingless marriage to some man for what she can get from him. fitting in. she wants to have daughters that fit in. she wants to fit in. she wants to fit in because she's fetishized her place above other humans (pigs in human clothing, in roles unbefitting their pig status), her place under life fibers.
it has nothing to do with love, so ragyo doesn't even bother with it. nor does junketsu. even though the guise of love could be a powerful aide here, the staff chose to leave the message unmuddied. it is about conformity.
for ryuko to fulfill this fantasy, she would have had to be a completely different person, with a completely different life.
ryuko could not be ryuko and still wear that wedding dress. so she tore it off to be herself again (something she'd been lamenting/resisting since finding out she was "a goddamned life fiber monster" shortly before getting put in junketsu).
also note that satsuki used this wedding dress for her own aims as well, though she is lucid through it. it pains her. it's a role she takes on to fight against ragyo (fire with fire). but she says she realizes she couldn't win using others like pawns. she couldn't win from inside the hierarchy, the establishment. she couldn't win using a groom and a dress for her own inauthentic reasons, nor using that clout to climb the ranks of something that was wholly rotten just to get closer to ragyo. the whole tree must be felled.

SHAMELESS OPINIONS: S7 (cause Mickey's write off hurt and after s5, I watched again from s1 and forced myself to keep watching + no one around me likes Shameless so I need a place to vent)
overall: i actually loved it, had me pretty hooked all throughout
ok, i kind of like s7 Trevor, he's charming, got this lil sassy banter going off, he's cute and nice y'know. I just *HATE* that they so obviously tried to recreate some dynamics he had with Mickey straight away without letting us warmup to him, how can you deepthroat aspects built from 5 seasons into half of one??? No. Sorry. Him settling so quickly into the Gallagher house as if he's spent a decade there, idk. And the patient scene with Ian? foh man, no. 1x09 was special for a reason, and this would've played differently if Ian actually came to Mick if he was still around. They play out so much better as friends or fw/b ig but that deepthroat can't help me see a relationship between them. Not liking s8 Trevor so far, my god. Also his nonchalant attitude towards Monica threw me off. I get it, he's new and doesn't know much, Ian never mentioned her before apparently, but like "she's a lil crazy i can like her" eek, idk. Like almost downplaying his situation with her.
Caleb can suck my ass along with JW and his hate for bisexuals. My bi ass cannot approve. Cheater McCheater my ass. I can almost walk through Ian's ignorance cause for all he knew, Caleb was just gay, and I feel he said the bisexual thing out of frustration and betrayal towards his actions than actual disdain for the orientation, but yes. He was ignorant in his convo with Lip, and so was him anyway. I guess they just didn't know it is a thing. But thing is, I BET YOU ASSES that Caleb is the type of douche to STILL justify his actions even if JW didn't display his hate towards bisexuality in his writing, he just is *that* douchy. At least he motivated Ian to get his job, I'll give him that.
OH MY GOD THE THROUPLE... AND ITS SLOW BURN. it's hard cause you can understand both sides of the situation and it was just a clear issue of misunderstandings and miscommunication... I just wish they could've handled things better because I was really rooting for them. They fucking worked so well, with their little schedules and organization. I have such a fat crush on Isidora it's actually embarrassing. Anyway... I miss their dynamic. They deserved better.
Lip was a dick to Fiona about the Laundromat, but Fiona also just jumps the gut to these impulsive decisions, and I get that if she does ask for opinions, they probably won't agree with her, and it's not like I can blame lip, I mean look at the Club situation, yeah she made profit, but didn't break even, and that where his worry comes from. But at least, if she still approached him, and did it anyway against his say, he can't rub it in her face that this entails a family meeting and she can't just make those decisions without consultation. Overall, Lip was so arrogant and dickish with her, and for what... he couldn't even bring the money he so desperately wanted her to believe he could.
I love Sue. I just love EMT Ian stuff with all my life, idc what it is, I kick my feet cause he's so happy.
I fucking loved Carl and Mr. Luthers dynamic. Such an epic lil duo tbh.
I loved Frank's storyline here fsr 💀💀 it's so silly and he gets his way like always, but idk, I loved seeing his adventures at the shelter, he still remains a POS that's for sure.
I fucking LOVED seeing Debbie this season, I was a little disappointed last season cause there is so much lost potential on her pregnancy journey last time with where she was staying, but I fucking loved her here and putting her scamming skills to the test. Don't love how she ends up treating Neil in s8 cause... Well, I just feel bad for him, but also, if she really wanted to stay true to her convenience relationship, she probably should've stuck it out more so it lasted more, idk. But enough of that, I loved her setting a goal for herself at the end of the season, and I honestly commend Monica for helping her get Franny out of the house, I understand Derek's family's concern but they were so cunty in how they handled things.
Monica's death hit me like a truck... Idk why, there are so many mixed emotions here, she couldn't dare to tell the kids the real reason she was there, and all she wanted was to be there one last time. My heart goes out to her tbh.
Gallavich. Oh dear God. FERAL, FERAL EVERY TIME. it's like receiving crumbs and eating them up like a vacuum, nothing I can say that hasn't already been said... I just... Wow. Fuck. Lord bless Etta... my dear soul. 7x11 was vicious for that, my heart crumbled fr. I can see this was all in Fiona's best interest for Etta and stuff... It was just so sad to see.
Lip and Sierra, I don't really know what people's opinions are about Sierra but I kind of liked her? She was sweet, and had traces of boundaries with Lip even if the fucker attempted to break them every now and then. But she was sweet.
Lips second spiral was even harder than the first one to see. Him crashing at Helene's apartment, and she still doesn't seem to grasp that she essentially groomed him, and he's just so devastated still. Fuck.
That ending montage was truly a piece of cinema I tell you. It was beautiful.
I probably have more to say I don't remember but I really liked s7, not on the priority of a constant rewatch, but it was really good...and truly served as the finale it was meant to be. EXCEPT FOR GALLAVICH, holy fuck that would've pained the whole audience.

Lost in My Past
So i was rewatching OBX S3 and i went to ep 7 and i found something to write a fic about basically y'know the scene where Singh's men attack Professor Neville's house boat and JJ and John B are there. Well i decided to write about it

"Hey" John B sighs in annoyance as he turns to JJ. He's trying to convince Professor Neville into giving him any information to find his dad. And JJ isn't helping.
"WHAT?!WHAT IS GOI-"
JJ covers John B's mouth as he tells him to shut up.
It's then John B hears it.
A boat engine.
"Hey Neville how much traffic do you get on this river?" JJ asks.
"Nothi-"
"Neville! Neville Persaud!"
Suddenly bullets sliced through the boats window, shattering it into a shower of glass fragments
John B pushes JJ down as more bullets were fired.
JJ curls up on the floor and holds his knees. His breath grows shallow as blood pounded in his ears.
YOU STUPID WORTHLESS IDIOT
Not real not real not real-
JJ gasps for air as he tugs on his hair-
His dad's angry shouts merge with the gunshots.
YOU'RE JUST LIKE YOUR STUPID MOM
Why can't he breathe, he needs to breathe.
John B slowly rises from his position on the floor and turns to see JJ.
The blonde boy is practically hyperventilating on the ground, his shaking hands tugging at his hair whilst tears stream down his face.
Signs of a panic attack.
"JJ not now, c'mon" John B crouches over the Maybank boy and places his hands gently over JJ's. "You're okay, i swear everything's fine."
"JB"
John B smiles weakly, "Right here buddy, you're safe i promise"
"C-can't breathe" JJ sobs.
"You can I promise you can "
John B's heart breaks at the sight of his best friend on the floor crying and hurting because of an idiotic excuse of a dad. JJ never deserved any of this. John B closes his eyes as a tear rolls down his face. Even though he has witnessed JJ's attacks many times before it still hurts to see him like this.
JJ can't even close his eyes or else the frantic images of Luke's menacing face will flash in his mind.
I HATE YOU SO MUCH
JJ whimpers as he tries to control his breathing.
"JJ, breathe. Focus on my voice," John B urges, his eyes filled with concern. "You're safe here with me. C'mon Bubba"
John B holds JJ's hand as the panic starts to subside.
The bullets still echoed in the distance but Luke's voice isn't there anymore.
JJ sits up and collapses onto John B's chest. JB wraps his arm around him.
"It's over you're okay"
JJ takes in the familiar scent of his best friend- cedarwood and bergamot.
"Sorry, I'm so sor-"
"Stop apologising" John B whispers into his ear. He holds JJ closer, resting his chin on the blonde locks." It'll be fine"
JJ faintly realizes that the boat is moving.
Neville returns, his face ashen and tired.
"I managed to get rid of them at the last minute, that was a close call"
JJ just hides his face in John B's shoulder. He feels guilty- John B must be so stressed right now, what with his Dad all the way in South America with Singh and JJ isn't helping by having a panic attack and-
"JJ?"
"What?" JJ meant for it to sound strong but it comes out as a shaky whisper.
"You're okay"
JJ just nods.
He's so grateful for having John B by his side. Yeah he has a rubbish dad and a stupid chaotic life but John B has always been there for him, holding him, making sure he doesn't break and if he has John B will pick up the pieces and fix him.
John B is JJ's anchor.
JJ's anchor in a messy, crazy, wild ocean.
John B is JJ's home.

I’m new to the peterick scene— what would you say are the top five things that happened or the key things to know about them? My current basis of knowledge is a mess of song lyrics, somewhat accurate facts, and old pictures. help!
omggggg hahaha this is such a difficult question because these two are so ridiculous, it's like...EVERYTHING. lol
I'll try to give five, this is totally subjective, off the top of my head, what jumps out at me randomly, Idk.
I will preface all of this by saying -- because I think I contribute to this societal pressure with my fic and so I try to make this statement whenever I can -- I think our society places an unnecessary amount of important on sex and romance as being the end-all-be-all of human relationships, whereas I think all of your relationships can and should be important to you, not just the ones with sex in them. These two are soulmates in a use of the word that has zero to do with anything other than my knowing that their souls met each other and recognized each other and clung fiercely to each other ever since, in a million different ways, and that might not be romantic but it is romantic. Y'know?
(1) Patrick Stump, whose voice is so incredible that it's ridiculous, still doesn't think he's a singer. He's a singer because Pete saw a singer in him, because Pete can't sing like that and so needs to sing through Patrick. But Patrick thinks Pete is really the band's singer. He said all this in a New York Times interview once. It's all a lot. But, anyway, Patrick sings because of Pete. He's also said Pete gives him purpose as an artist. He composes without Pete's words, but when Pete gives him words, it's like Christmas morning. For his part, Pete has said that he doesn't really like to work with anyone but Patrick, that Patrick understands him on a level similar to cryptophasia, and so Patrick will translate Pete-speak for other people, and without Patrick around, the whole process is a lot harder for Pete. So there's just...that, about the two of them.
(2) Pete used to wish Patrick dramatic happy birthdays on Twitter

He doesn't do this anymore (he doesn't do Twitter anymore) but still.
(3) They have a panoply of intricate rituals they perform on stage: play at each other at certain points of time, mouth certain phrases to each other, stand near each other during certain lyrics. Patrick has rituals with Joe as well, but Pete seems to have a lot of habits involving Patrick and wanders close to him at the same times in their songs. The last song they play every night is their Song About Them, the first song they really successfully wrote together, and that has the most intricate rituals, and they play it last every show even though many people watching have no idea what it is, because it is Their Song.
(4) Oh, yeah, they have a song hahahaha. (It's called Saturday. The lyrics are literally about them.)
(5) Pete had a rough time with the fame of his 20s. He was convinced he was going to die young (specifically: at the age of 27, when so many musicians have died). On Pete's 28th birthday, their manager called Patrick to congratulate him on making it. That's how much Patrick was supporting Pete. It's mutual, because when Patrick had a rough time years later and issued a cry for help, Pete showed up. Lots of their fans say Fall Out Boy saved their lives; Pete says it saved his life, too.

Tsurune Character Songs Album Review
We had a lot of thoughts about these songs while working with the lyrics, so we decided to do a mini album review! Please enjoy listening to each songs as we reflect on the lyrics and composition~
Up Stairs
Mod Yumi: A very gentle, comforting song, as expected from a Minato/Seiya duet. The composers did an excellent job capturing the feeling of nostalgia; this somehow feels like a song I've known and loved for years. The lyrics are perfect--I love the references to the bridge scene from s1 ep10. The line "I had a place where my heart could relax" is so precious <3 Overall, I don't think it's the strongest song on the album, but it's definitely one of my top faves!
Mod Optimus Prime: A heartfelt way to start off the album! It's very sweet and mellow, which of course really fits the fact that, y'know, the song is about Minato and Seiya's relationship! It's more or less just a straight callback to all of season one, but it's really touching how (both literally and figuratively) they come together at the end there.
Crossover
Mod Yumi: This song is so excessively dramatic and I kinda love it?? It does NOT sound like a song that ties into a soothing, chill slice of life archery anime and I am here for it. But I'm also weak for synth horns; give me a cheesy overexuberant fake brass section and I'm sold. Bonus points for all of the archery references and unnecessarily homoerotic lyrics. (And special shoutout to Mod Optimus Prime, our resident FukuJun stan, for helping me with the color codes because I was completely lost lmao)
Mod Optimus Prime: Probably the character duo song with the most...attitude to it? And sass, which of course, fits these two incredibly troublesome boys. To me, it's almost like the two are having a back-and-forth with each other while also brazenly admitting to each other just how tangled up they are—admittedly a reoccurring theme for the duet songs, but that doesn't make it any less cute, I think!
Ari no Mama de
Mod Yumi: Very cute and wholesome, doesn't really do it for me in terms of composition though. I do think this is the most well-acted song on the album. Having heard both of these seiyuu sing as other characters (notably Suzuki Ryouta as Bisco from Sabikui Bisco and Yano Shougo as Mafuyu from Given), I was blown away by how different they both managed to sound! Changing your voice to that extent while singing is not an easy thing to do. I was also tickled by the fact that they both noticeably sang less well than I know they're both capable of singing, because it suited the characters better to do so. Listening to this song, you wouldn't think either of these singers are particularly talented, but that fact is proof in and of itself that they ARE talented. Mad respect for the skill displayed here!
Mod Optimus Prime: Unsurprisingly, sunshine boy Ryouhei and the other local cheery boy have an easygoing and slow duet! I can't really say too much aside from the fact that the lyrics are both just really cute and earnest—you can see Ryouhei's influence here, haha.
Growing Up
Mod Yumi: Very cute, very catchy! I enjoy this song a lot. As a side note, I find it interesting that besides Minato, Nanao is the only character to be featured in two songs. One of the things I like about Nanao is that he's characterized mainly through his relationships with other characters. Sometimes when we see this happening it's more to do with lazy character writing (and lbr, it usually happens with female characters). But in this case, it actually builds our understanding of the character, rather than just casting him into the side character role of 'only here to develop the MCs'. To me it's always felt like he's the most put-together of the team, watching over everyone else and giving them a nudge in the right direction, while blending in so effortlessly they don't suspect a thing, like the social chameleon he is. Oops, this just turned into me gushing about Tsurune character writing lol. The song's nice idk what else to tell ya
Mod Optimus Prime: Also yet another honest song—a rare thing for Kacchan! It's obviously about Kaito and Nanao's close friendship and the further development during season two, so it's fitting we also get to see more of Nanao's (somewhat hidden) stubborn side here. Not to meme here, but really shows how their relationship fits the, "the more things change, the more things stay the same," aka them supporting ("protecting") each other through thick and thin.
Gekkou
Mod Yumi: I'm not the biggest fan of the composition of this song. I can't put my finger on why, but the main melody isn't working for me (and doesn't work great for Asashin's voice either tbh). That said, the backing track lives rent free in my head, I'm OBSESSED. And I love the dreamy feel of the lyrics! Whereas the others feel more like a dialogue between the singers, this one feels like a poem. The ethereal quality of the music and the lyrics draws me back to Masa-san's introduction, when he was a cryptid/ghost (lmao) appearing in the dead of night to guide Minato back to archery
Mod Optimus Prime: I've only heard Asanuma Shintarou (Masaki's VA) sing in a higher register, so this was both surprising and pleasant—it's quite soothing to hear! It's also fitting that the only Real Adult™️ with bounds of experience compared to these young'uns gets a really poetic and dramatic song with, of course, lots of moon references.
Kyoumei
Mod Yumi: THIS IS THE BEST ONE. This song is a legit bop omg. Leave it to luck life to give us a character song that exceeds typical character songs! I also love the meaning of the lyrics; it almost feels like a new angle on the Shuu/Minato relationship in a way? Of course we know their history and their affectionate rivalry, but we don't really see either of them putting into words how they feel about each other (especially Shuu-- I had to laugh at the line "we didn't need mundane words"; like no dude we could actually use a few more words from you, given your track record of communicating approximately 7% of your thoughts smh). This song puts into words how much they mean to each other and how, despite their complicated history and rivalry, they still care about each other.
Mod Optimus Prime: Luck Life actually composed this song, which really shows in the style (that catchy guitar, anyone?)! I adore the constant references to "sounds"—while a bit cheesy and on those nose, of course, it fits these two to a T and calls back to that season one finale. Again, not that any of the songs are really subtle, but "We might be apart, but I believe we'll someday return / So we didn't need mundane words" really just sums up their unique friendship/rivalry. Also, love how the two only sing together at the end: really fits with the song's whole message/theme about the two being separated, but eventually reuniting! How sweet.

₊˚✦ he’s presented in the show as a womanizer or a tomcat, not settling down and more-so dating around and sleeping with women casually. In my brain, that frequency of sex with no nonsexual intimacy makes me think he’s had little to no experience with genuine care
₊˚✦ not as if life never handed him opportunities, but Mike doesn’t attach well and hates change even more, seen in his handling of changes in partners from Max to Phil and Phil to Lennie. (The former has more trauma involved but it’s neither the place or time to get into that mess)
₊˚✦ Mike’s just too closed off to comfortably/easily involve himself with a partner and be intimate nonsexually, like being open and talking about things, communicate. I think he struggles with how he views himself and treats himself, and in turn can’t really give everything when he’s got nothing he can even give himself if that makes sense?
₊˚✦ he's had such an unkind home life, between his abusive father and even more abusive mother, any attachment or closeness others seek with him I can see Mike fighting off. Biting the hand that's trying to feed him, y'know? We see it with Lennie when he takes Phil's place and Mike dismisses him and bickers, biting at him. Initially, he's not willing to open up for fear of being vulnerable enough to get hurt again.
₊˚✦ But when you do get him to open up? that luxury of getting to know him slowly and intimately, taking down the walls brick by brick, it's beautiful. I just know that you have to take time, in words or actions, to show him that you aren't going anywhere, anytime soon. That does mean having to trudge through the casual stage of dating and being something different, something more and real with him than the flings he's been known to have (I'm in love with a slut, so what)
₊˚✦ The loyalty Mike shows? his dedication to others around him once he knows that they are not leaving is so vast and deep. It's shown with his partners and those he works with. He entrusts his life with them, working where he does and as he does. Mike eventually entrusts his life with you too.
₊˚✦ with the sexual intimacy, he's not all too hesitant to fuck first and ask questions later, my beloved hoe, but Mike can hold out depending on his relationship. A monogamous king with questionable taste, he can wait a moderate time at least until getting to bed. But not the most chaste partner you'll have. He's got energy, gotta' be spent somewhere.
₊˚✦ when he is attached, with a whole established relationship, he's spending his weekends at your place until the two of you eventually rent and live together. A small apartment with big windows, probably in Brooklyn. It lives in my head rent-free, it should live in all of y'alls heads rent-free, and I say with confidence that Mike sleeps in on his weekends and refuses to be the first to rise from the sheets unless he's back beneath them within several minutes.
₊˚✦ he will invade your personal space, when you're working at home or doing a craft, and will either participate or be near you while you're doing things if he can't help or join. Mike just plays but eventually can learn the concept of parallel play and sharing the space instead of needing to be literally on top of you.
₊˚✦ when Mike gets home from a long or bad day, he usually goes to your shared home and changes into softer clothes then joins you on the couch. You thread your fingers through his hair and massage his scalp and temples, making him bury his face into your stomach as he lays his head on your lap, groaning as you manually shed the day away and send him melting into you.
₊˚✦ Before you two shared a living space, he would go to yours on rougher days or just pick you up on his drive home, eager to be with you and around the comfort you bring. Mike can isolate but you know when to press him to talk and when to just let him decompress in quiet.
₊˚✦ overall, he's hard to get to open up but you won't get him to leave once you do. You put in the effort, the time to getting to know him and gain his loyalty and adoration — you're the one that's stuck with him. And you couldn't be happier.

something something fire magic as a representation of toxicity in amity’s life (which sounds really far fetched BUT! here me out:
She's practicing a fire spell in Adventures in the Elements where she unknowingly passes on the isles elitist/fantasy abelist ideas about magic to Luz, making her insecure in her magical abilities to her own detriment. Amity is also insecure in her magic this ep
She uses the fire spell AGAIN in Understanding Willow and like. Idk if I even have to talk abt the symbolism of fire in this ep. Amity literally ends up nearly killing her former best friend, with fire, bc of the way the isles toxic ideals of magic and strength split them apart, and Willow literally has every emotion other than anger burned out of her body because of this.
She uses fire magic in Eclipse Lake (I can't remember the exact scene but I do know that in FatCDP kiki refers to her as the "little fire starter") where she is, again, falling back into her pattern of needing to justify her existence, though this episode marks a definite turning point for her, in that she reaches out to someone going through the same thing as her and. Y'know. She almost gets through to him! She ends the ep in a better place than where she started though
and then we don’t see her use fire magic for the rest of the show, to my memory, bc she’s breaking free of those patterns fully from EL onward, even if she slips back into them occasionally (like in Labyrinth Runners). Last piece of "evidence" is how Boscha’s often associated with fire magic (her grudgby attacks teach Luz the fire glyph and she threatens to. Set Luz's eyes on fire in FatCDP) and also constantly bullies ppl like Willow for not fitting the isles idea of what a witch should be, and tries to drag amity back into her toxic circle in FTF just so she won’t feel alone anymore)
