Writing Scenes Out of Order
Gonna be honest with y'all, I have never ever written a story completely in order. I am actually incapable of doing that. Even though I write the most detailed outlines known to man before I even think about writing, I still can’t write the scenes in order. I swear by this because I sincerely believe that writing scenes out of order increases my productivity which I’ll talk about later. Even if you haven’t done this before, I recommend everyone try it at least once, so without further ado, here are a few reasons that you should write your stories out of order.
You Can Write The Ending First
When you write your scenes in order, generally that means that you’re going to write the ending last. In my experience, the ending is one of the most important things in your story, so I recommend that even if you write everything else in order, always write the ending first. Writing the ending first always gives you a light at the end of the tunnel. It gives you a destination to eventually reach. Even when you feel like your story is going absolutely nowhere, it allows you to go back and see what you want the ending to look like from the beginning which should help your motivation and hopefully lessen that pesky writer’s block!
Oh, Those Continuity Issues
Continuity issues are the absolute worst. I can never seem to remember the way that I described stuff at the end of the book when I’m writing everything back at the beginning. One thing that does get frustrating about writing scenes out of order, is keeping up with continuity like what season it is, what characters have already met, and even who is alive and dead at certain points. Writing scenes in order eliminates these issues because you are writing everything in the order that it happens. I would most definitely recommend keeping an outline or at least a sheet of notes when you’re writing scenes out of order, so that you can keep yourself organized and lessen the continuity issues that you have to go back and fix in later drafts!
You Can Follow Your Inspiration
I plot every scene out extensively, but if I do have an idea for a scene, I immediately write it down and worry about where it fits into the story later. For me, this increases my motivation because at least I'm writing something even if it wasn't in my original outline. Every story has scenes that aren't the most interesting, and as writers, those can be the hardest scenes to write. Especially if you write all of the interesting scenes first, you won't have anything to look forward to when you're struggling through the more transitional parts of the story. This is just my opinion, but whenever I write in chronological order, my motivation goes down a lot. I like writing whatever scenes I want to write instead of writing what comes next in the story. Knowing that I can write whatever scene I want to next makes me super excited about writing
Sprinkle In That Foreshadowing
Y’all know how much I love me some well done foreshadowing. It’s simply one of the best things about reading and writing. But, writing foreshadowing can be really complicated if you aren’t sure how the story ends or even how the foreshadowing will fit into the story later. Because I normally write the ending scenes first, when I finally get around to writing the beginning scenes, I can easily sprinkle in little bits of foreshadowing or allusions to later scenes. It also helps me not overly foreshadow anything because I can go to the end and make sure I'm not doing too much.

First thing first · kana
(。•̀ᴗ-)✧ essential
Tumblr media
It is a must, before you begin your journey in studying japanese, to be fully able to read, understand and write hiragana and katakana.
In my post I would hardly use romanji, since I think they're counterproductive. Even though my blog is beginner friendly (as myself!) I think it's essential to know how to read and write these two alphabets.
What is kana
Kana is essentially the Japanese alphabet. Each kana character represents one syllable. There are two sets of kana, which means there are two different Japanese scripts based on syllabaries: hiragana (ひらがな) and katakana (カタカナ). Both hiragana and katakana were originally derived from kanji characters. Hiragana and katakana are literally the ABCs of Japanese. They're the most basic types of Japanese characters and essential parts of the Japanese language. Learning these two types of characters is often the very first step to learning Japanese, too.
Why not romanji?
Romanization can indeed make one's learning process less effective. When you rely heavily on romanji, your brain tends to lean on the Latin alphabet that you're already familiar with, potentially hindering your ability to fully grasp hiragana and katakana. That's why I encourage minimizing the use of romanji in your studies, except when it's absolutely necessary. Making a conscious effort to read and engage with kana is a more fruitful approach.
Hiragana
Tumblr media
Hiragana is the first writing system learned by Japanese children, and thus is often the recommended system for non-Japanese to learn first, as well.
Katakana
Tumblr media
Katakana may not be used as extensively as hiragana, but it provides an interesting advantage to English speakers. Gairaigo (外来語), or borrowed words, is primarily written in katakana so katakana characters are mainly used to write foreign names, corporate branding, western loanwords and onomatopoeic words.
Free resources
JOSHU - interactive tables, stroke order, audio, flashcards, practice sheets, practice quizzes.
Japanese Pod 101 - Kana eBook, video lesson (try 10 Days Hiragana Challenge and 10 Days Katakana Challenge) plus Learn Hiragana in 1 hour and Learn Katakana in 1 hour
Tofugu - I really reccomend check this article out, becaus it's a more in depth article with tons of other possible useful resoures!
App - there are several apps for iOS/Android, such as: Dr. Moku, Hiragana/Katakana Memory Hint, Write it! Japanese (and many more...)
Writing and Reading practice - I personally recommend this video from this playlist (also useful) for the reading practice and this one for the writing.
The Best Method?
There isn't, in fact, a "best method" to learn kana. As every other thing, you need to learn at your own pace and with the method that best suits you. My method was just writing kana endlessly and repetition, trying to hear words and write them and/or read them (as the last point of the free resources). But everyone is different, so I recommend to try different methods out! Don't hesitate to ask question, recommend other resources or simply interact!

Use Strong Visuals: Incorporate relevant images, charts, and infographics to enhance the proposal’s visual appeal and make it more engaging.
Proofread and Edit Rigorously: Ensure the proposal is free of grammatical errors, typos, and inconsistencies to maintain professionalism.
Customize Each Proposal: Avoid generic templates and tailor each proposal to the specific needs and interests of the client.
Follow Up and Track Progress: Maintain communication with the client, address any questions promptly, and track the proposal’s progress until a decision is made.

From Classroom Management to Child Development: What to Expect from a Nursery Teacher Training Course
Are you interested in pursuing a career in early years education? Do you want to learn how to create a safe and nurturing learning environment for young children while promoting their holistic development? Look no further than a nursery teacher training course! This blog post explores what you can expect from such a program, including classroom management techniques, child development theories, the importance of play-based learning, health and safety measures, supporting children with special needs, and promoting inclusion. Join us on this exciting journey towards becoming a qualified early years educator through the London College of Teachers and Trainers. (Information Credit: https://www.londoncollegeofteachers.uk/nursery-teacher-training.php)
Classroom Management
Classroom management is an essential skill nursery teachers must master to foster learning and development in young children. As a teacher, creating a positive and safe environment where every child feels valued and respected is crucial. You should also be able to set boundaries for behaviour without being too strict or intimidating.
To achieve effective classroom management, you need to plan your lessons well in advance. This will help you stay organized and ensure that each activity is age-appropriate, fun, and engaging for the children. Always be flexible with your plans, as things can change quickly with young children.
Tumblr media
Another key aspect of classroom management is communication. It's important to establish open lines of communication between yourself, the students, their parents or guardians, if possible, and any other relevant parties involved in their care.
Good classroom management skills are vital for nurturing a love of learning in young children while keeping them safe and happy at all times. By mastering this skill set through courses such as those offered by the London College of Teachers and Trainers, you'll be better equipped to meet the needs of your students both now and in the future!
Child Development
Child development is a complex and fascinating field covering many growth areas in young children. One important aspect of child development is cognitive development, which includes language acquisition, memory, problem-solving skills, and creativity.
Another key area of child development is social-emotional development. This includes learning how to interact with others, develop healthy relationships, manage emotions, and develop empathy for others.
Physical development also plays a crucial role in child growth. It involves improving gross motor skills, such as running or jumping, and fine motor skills, such as writing or using utensils properly.
Nursery teachers need to deeply understand these areas of child development to provide appropriate activities that support their students' progress. They should be able to identify children who may need extra help in certain areas so they can intervene early on.
Nursery teacher training courses will cover techniques and strategies for supporting each aspect of child development while keeping the curriculum engaging and fun for young learners.
The Importance of Play
Play is an essential aspect of a child's development. It allows children to learn and explore their surroundings, develop social skills, and express themselves creatively. Through play, children can interact with the world in meaningful ways that help them understand the concepts they are learning.
In early years settings, structured play activities can support specific learning goals. For example, a teacher might use games or role-playing scenarios to teach social skills like sharing or taking turns. They might also provide opportunities for creative expression through art projects or imaginative play.
Nursery teachers must create safe, stimulating environments that encourage exploration and discovery. This means providing materials and resources that allow children to experiment with different ideas and concepts without fear of failure or judgment.
At the London College of Teachers and Trainers, we believe in the importance of play-based learning approaches in early years education. Our training courses focus on developing practical skills that enable teachers to create engaging learning experiences for young learners while promoting their well-being.
It is clear that play is crucial for a child's holistic development - intellectually, emotionally, socially and physically - hence why it should always be incorporated into early years educational settings as much as possible!
Health and Safety in the Early Years
Health and safety are top priorities in early years settings, and nursery teacher training courses provide in-depth knowledge on how to keep young children safe and healthy. Teachers must take the necessary steps to ensure their classrooms meet health and safety standards.
Firstly, teachers must maintain a clean environment by regularly cleaning surfaces, toys, and equipment with which the children come into contact. They should also conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential hazards or dangers within the setting.
Additionally, teachers must be aware of each child's food allergies and dietary requirements and ensure proper hygiene practices during meal times. They must monitor any signs of illness among students while informing parents about their child's well-being.
Furthermore, teachers need basic first aid skills such as CPR in emergencies. This helps create a safer environment where everyone can feel confident, knowing they are prepared should an incident arise.
Understanding health and safety standards is crucial for nursery teachers because it ensures a safe learning experience for teachers and students alike. London College of Teachers and Trainers offers comprehensive training programs that cover these topics extensively so you can confidently manage your classroom!
Supporting Children with Special Educational Needs
Supporting children with special educational needs is crucial in nursery teacher training courses. To achieve this goal, teachers must thoroughly understand the child's individual needs and tailor their approach accordingly. The role of the nursery teacher in this context is to identify and support children with different abilities, disabilities, or developmental disorders.
One important strategy for supporting children with special educational needs is to create an inclusive learning environment where every child feels valued and supported. This involves adapting teaching methods and resources to meet the diverse needs of all learners. For example, visual aids may be used for visually impaired or non-verbal communication techniques for those who struggle with speech.
Nursery teachers also play an essential role in collaborating with other professionals, such as therapists, psychologists, and healthcare providers, to ensure that each child receives comprehensive support. Working together as a team can help develop personalized learning plans that suit each child's unique requirements.
Another critical aspect of supporting children with special educational needs is monitoring progress regularly. Nursery teachers must track how each child performs academically and socially while providing ongoing feedback to parents about their development.
Building positive relationships between nursery teachers and families is important in creating a supportive network around children with special educational needs. Teachers should communicate openly with parents about their child's progress while actively involving them in the learning process at school.
Providing specialized support tailored to individual requirements along with creating inclusive environments that foster collaboration between professionals across disciplines allows educators from the London College Of Teachers And Trainers trained in Supporting Children With Special Educational Needs necessary tools required when teaching students who need extra assistance compared to others during early years education stages.
Promoting Inclusion in Early Years Settings
Promoting inclusion in early years settings is crucial to nursery teacher training courses. As an educator, it's important to be aware of and sensitive to the diverse needs and backgrounds of young children under your care. One way to promote inclusion is by providing a welcoming environment where all children feel valued and included regardless of their differences.
Another strategy for promoting inclusion is adapting activities to meet each child's individual needs. This means considering factors like cultural background, language abilities, learning styles, and developmental levels when planning lessons and activities for your class.
Inclusion also involves creating opportunities for children with different abilities to interact with one another. Allowing children with disabilities or special educational needs (SEN) to participate fully in classroom activities can help them develop social skills while promoting understanding and empathy among their peers.
Furthermore, involving families in the learning process can provide valuable insights into each child's unique strengths and challenges, which can help teachers better support their development and ensure that everyone feels included.
Promoting inclusion requires a commitment from educators to create an environment that celebrates diversity while fostering a sense of belonging among all students. By taking steps such as those outlined above, nursery teachers can play an essential role in shaping inclusive attitudes among young learners - attitudes that will serve them well throughout their lives.
Conclusion
A nursery teacher training course is essential for anyone seeking a career in early years education. The course covers all aspects of classroom management, child development, health and safety regulations, supporting children with special educational needs and promoting inclusion in early years settings.
The London College of Teachers and Trainers provide an exceptional nursery teacher training program that equips students with the necessary knowledge and skills to excel in the field. With highly qualified trainers who are experts in their respective fields, students can expect top-quality instruction throughout their training.
By completing a nursery teacher training course at the London College of Teachers and Trainers, graduates will be well-prepared to work as professional educators who positively contribute to society by shaping young minds.

Do you think that modern eggman has any kind of appreciation for the arts? I see him as the type to appreciate literary works, primarily novels and maybe poetry from time to time. Possibly could be appreciative of fine/visual arts too if he's the one drawing out and designing his robots from scratch (If so, he must be a really good artist!)
Yes absolutely!! He definitely likes reading with all the books we see in one of his private rooms in Adventure!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I imagine that a bunch of them are informative books about science/robotics/machinery/etc, quite similar to how he got books from the library for research in Sonic X. He likes things that he might find useful for work, or he can read and find entertainment in knowing his own work and knowledge on the subjects they're about are far superior to theirs with his genius heheh
But I can also see him reading novels or poetry as another hobby to indulge in his free time and having a nice collection of them, maybe even a huge library somewhere! I could always picture him sitting down with a book to unwind after hard work and a stress relief. He'd be great at story in depth analysis and review and I can see him getting really immersed in it.
There have even been Sonic Official posts that imply that Eggman is an author himself. I'd love for that to be game canon so he could be interested in both reading types of literature from others and also doing writing of his own!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm sure he does design and draw out his ideas all by himself. You can see how often his special personal touches and unique design reflects in his creations, with the most notable being those that have any resemblance to his appearance and I adore it heheh. I can't picture anyone else drawing out his creations and designs for him. Because he's so smart, he's probably constantly getting ideas and inspiration all the time, including from things he sees in daily life and maybe commonly taking notes and sketching at the thought.
An example is how he's taken inspiration from various creatures and insects and found creative ways to incorporate and translate their known natural abilities into mechanical functions and attacks for his robots and I find that super cute. He's creating his machines for destruction and I'm like oh my god adorable lol. Designing and drawing it all by himself would be a big part of the pride and accomplishment for him, so they must all be drawn out and designed from scratch with his own hands. With his 300 IQ and genius, he's very imaginative, creative, and skilled!
He was also seen drawing for his creations in Sonic X, which I imagine his game self doing
Tumblr media
And he also had stationary at his desk in this Sonic Channel art which he could use for both notes and drawing, so it does point towards that being true
Tumblr media
I love to imagine that he's a beautiful and talented artist, he can draw incredible complex detailed artwork for his designs but also likes to scribble cute doodles in his notebooks for fun, like in this Sonic Official post XD 💜 So I can also see him having good artistic knowledge and the ability to analyze, review, and appreciate various works such as fine and visual arts too because he's very creative and imaginative himself. But he knows all if his own works are the greatest of all!
Sonic Official have also shown him to have an interest in music more than once in Twitter Takeovers, where he's talked about appreciating and even creating music. I do feel it would suit his game canon self well and him having an interest in showtunes is very believable! He said he'd tweet about his opinions if he had an account, so perhaps he could even be into analyzing music as well.
I also like the idea of IDW Eggman making figures by hand and I can definitely see him doing this in game canon as I like to imagine the plushies used as test dummies in Final Egg were hand sewn by him. And him drawing his ideas first and then making them into 3D figure models would make a lot of sense. That way he can save time and resources if he decides there's any changes he wants to make and assure that he's happy with it before the real production. He can get right to the tests of function with the actual thing then instead. It's also a fun hobby for him to have and I definitely think he'd like to play with them sometimes too!
I adore the idea of him being artistic and creative in many ways as it shows already through all the creations and designs of his we've seen in the games. Not only is he good at designing and building by hand as much as he can have them produced in his factories, but he's also interested and skilled in other handcrafted creations, art and design in other areas such as artwork and fashion, writing and appreciating various forms of literature, and perhaps even music. I believe in him having a plethora of talents as the brilliant genius he is. 💜💕

@dafdae sent - Fun thing related to the autsim post you reblogged! Plum was made based on my hyperfixations and I gave her the same stimming patterns I have and a few more that she brought forward herself. While I haven't seen those writing that aren't non autistic write autistic characters that I'm aware on but I've seen ablest using autism as an insult in an rpc i was in before on fb which made me really hate fb. Not to mention some insane people trying to use autism as a reason some killer committed a crime and try to infantise them like they're this 'uwu cinnamon roll did nutin wrong babey' which I honestly hate so much.
Over all to me though. If someone that isn't autistic wants to have their muse autistic, they should:
ask those that are autistic on how to go about it
do proper research as that's always important to keep in mind.
there's many that are autistic that you wouldn't know! pretty much some of us are p much like those you know. (which brings those "you don't act autistic" comments. it happens. i've had it happen to me but the guy was v friendly and kind.)
don't take what media shows on how we act all the time as they rather exaggerate things. thankfully kids shows that include character with it are very mindful on showing other kids they are just like every other kid and to not treat them like they aren't like you.
I feel I'll derail soon and am losing confidence in my words so I'll end it there jhbhjbhjbdc love to you jasi!
Tumblr media
I think it’s pretty cool that you were able to incorporate some of your own hyperfixations and stimming into your muse! I agree, that my bone to pick wasn’t really with the RPC - the few autistic muses that I have seen have felt pretty authentic or at least, not embodying any offensive stereotypes about autistic people.  I think what I was mostly referring to was the mainstream media portrayal of people with autism - such as in television, films.  I feel like a lot of the tropes used in those often overlap and those writing the characters either have a profound misunderstanding of what autism actually is, or simply copy and paste a similar, if not the same formula, to autistic characters.
While I did not see that particular example in regards to a criminal, I do agree that trying to coddle those with autism and trying to act as though autism is an excuse for everything is ultimately detrimental to the person with autism.  I believe that people should be held accountable for their shitty words and actions no matter who they are, that includes people with autism - even if they don’t understand what they did with shitty, I think it’s important to be honest with them nevertheless and tell them as much - not to hurt their feelings or to be cruel, but to help them better understand.  I have never liked being infantilized and I would never presume to do it with someone else with autism - I believe in trying to treat others, equally.  I do have a soft spot for fellow people with autism and will try to offer my own insights and experiences if asked, but I try to treat them like everyone else and that includes holding them accountable or acting accordingly if they do something shitty or something that makes me uncomfortable - if you don’t tell someone that what they’re doing is uncomfortable or shitty, they’ll likely keep doing it - or excuse others who do it.  That isn’t a good pattern in my opinion.
What I do know is that if I were ever the one acting shitty or making others uncomfortable, even without realizing it - I would want to know - and I would want to be held accountable.  I feel that’s only fair.
I think those are some great tips - I for one would welcome anyone asking me for advice regarding autism, though I think it would be best to keep in mind that my experience with autism does not equal everyone else’s experience and they should probably seek opinions from multiple people and try to get as many people’s insights as they can.  Research is also important, although finding good resources is important too - I’m sure there is a great deal of misinformation is also out there so finding multiple sources of research helps.  I agree with you about the media - unless respectfully done, I think media should probably be someone’s lowest priority if they’re creating an autistic muse as you’ll likely run into a lot of similar or exaggerated characters with autism, though as you pointed out, there are shows that have done that respectfully.
Thanks for the ask! This was very interesting to talk about and I hope it was of some help to someone considering making an autistic muse/wanting to know more.

Thoughts on Sansa in 8x03
Though I enjoyed a lot of "The Long Night", I had significant issues with how Sansa was characterized in this episode.  ASOIAF's Sansa is a leader.  Though she is introverted and self-contained, she consistantly finds herself in leadership positions.  Instead of allowing Show!Sansa to share this same mentality, D&D completely ignored it, choosing to highlight action sequences instead investing in character moments.  Nearly every scene is offensive to Sansa's character:
The Pointy End
Do I love that we get a referance to Jon and Arya's childhood goodbye? Yes. Do I love that it comes at the expense of Sansa's canonical resourefulness? That's a hard no.  If D&D cared for and respected Sansa's character half as much as they pretend to, they would know that her's is a story of resistance, and that she's prepared for this resistance to become physical in the past:
"Sansa threw a plain grey cloak over her shoulders and picked up the knife she used to cut her meat. If it is some trap, better that I die than let them hurt me more, she told herself. She hid the blade under her cloak."
- Sansa II, A Clash of Kings
Even as a child she clearly had a good understanding of knives, how to use them, and how to defend herself.  So why did 8x03 present us with an adult Sansa who's seemingly lost her defiant and capable constitution? Because, in this episode especially, D&D use her only as a conveniant plot device.  Need to make a S1 callback? Sansa! Need to remind the audience of how Good™ Tyrion is? Sansa! Nevermind the fact that she has her own arc that's worth investing in and respecting.  This scene only sets the tone for the rest of the episode.
Silence In The Crypts
This scene is by far the most upsetting in the episode.  A battle rages outside and Sansa is sheltered inside with the women and children.  It's a setting that's incredibly reminiscent of Blackwater, so why don't we see Blackwater!Sansa 2.0?
Not only would I assume that comforting the frightened is in character for Sansa, it's actually happened before:
"Sansa raised her hands for quiet. 'Joffrey's come back to the castle. He's not hurt. They're still fighting, that's all I know, they're fighting bravely. The queen will be back soon.' The last was a lie, but she had to soothe them. She noticed the fools standing under the galley. 'Moon Boy, make us laugh.'"
- Sansa VII, A Clash of Kings
Surrounded by people who have been indifferent towards her public suffering, and have done nothing to help her, she still goes out of her way to both comfort and distract them.  But I'm supposed to believe that years later, surround by Northerners (her own people), she would choose silence over leadership?
Instead of taking the opportunity to remind the audience of Sansa's leadership qualities, they once again choose to use her as a conveniance instead of a character, abandoning her arc to cheaply let the audience know just how much of a threat the Army of the Dead really is.  This scene also has the incredibly uncomfortable effect of making Sansa more like Cersei was during Black water than she was.  She sits in silence, talks shit about political rivals, and generally ignores her responsibilites.  I know D&D didn't mean to write her at all negatively this episode, but good lord they suck at storytelling sometimes.
Tyrion's Redemption
I'm divided on this scene.  I like it because Sophie's acting is nothing short of phenominal, but I also take issue with it because it continues the show's terrible habit of stealing Sansa's development and giving it to others, especially Tyrion. Since Tyrion has been completely white-washed in the show, I knew there was no chance for any real character work between him and Sansa, but it could have at least been better than him wishing he could have stayed married to his child bride, and her deciding to let bygones be bygones about the whole forced marriage/political prisoner thing.
Instead of allowing Sansa the righteous anger she deserves for having spent her formative years being abused by political enemies, the writers instead have her remind the audience that Tyrion did nothing wrong, and that it shouldn't really be held against him that he participated in her torment.
Cut Scenes
I know I'm hardly the first to mention it, but the decision to cut out scenes of Sansa and Tyrion fighting wights is unbelievably frustrating.  So I'll just join my voice to the chorus of Sansa stans who say she deserved better.  In an episode almost universally criticized for battle sequences that lasted too long, it seems like some of those run-on scenes could have been cut to give at least a moments worth of payoff for the set-up that was Arya giving Sansa her dagger.
Overall this episode was a nagging reminder of just how little respect D&D have paid to Sansa and her development.

Spiritual Spotlight: Ydajisk, the Mother of Tongues
Tumblr media
Chaotic Neutral Protean Cantor of Language Evolution, Lost Words, and Slang
Domains: Chaos, Knowledge, Rune, Trickery Subdomains*: Protean, Thought, Language, Innuendo
Concordance of Rivals, pg. 21
Obedience: Recite, copy, or graffiti a text in a dead or self-created language in a public place, regardless of whether any others understand the meaning, and provide no translation. Benefit: Gain a +4 sacred bonus on saving throws against language-based effects.
(*IMPORTANT NOTE: The Subdomains are my best guess; Subdomains are not listed in Concordance of Rivals)
A step above Ssila’s Obedience in that, while it requires your act to be seen publicly, you can still stealth it by simply using graffiti in a public place so you’re not as likely to be arrested or seen as a menace.
Canon dead languages in Pathfinder include Ancient Osirion, Azlanti, and the ever-popular Thassilonian (the language of the Runelords), by the way, and studying any of those three languages is an automatic +1 to your character’s Cool Points if you manage to work it into their character concept. A DM may make it a little more difficult for you to acquire them, as dead languages are difficult to resurrect with mere points in Linguistics, but you can just cheat and have it be part of your character’s backstory. Anything can happen in your backstory!
You can also go the route of just making up a language. It has to be consistent, but you don’t have to go all out and present your DM with a journal filled with runes that help them decipher what you’ve written; you can just say it’s being consistent! And it’s yet another way to get Cool Points for your character, having them write journals or a diary in their own unbreakable code. Ydajisk requires their followers to deliberately not provide a translation for anything they create, leaving others to puzzle over the strange sounds coming out of this person’s mouth or wonder if the new paint all over city hall is an occult symbol or harmless vandalism. It’s also a pretty easy Obedience to hide, if you don’t want people knowing who you work for, since you can get away with translating an existing document into another language. It’ll make you look eccentric, but in a charming way.
The benefit is, sadly, rather poor. Many of the most dangerous spells in existence don’t rely on language, and this spell really only protects you from the seldom-seen Litany spells. It DOES work on Suggestion, though, which is commonly used and devastating if used right, but all in all this benefit is too narrow to matter in 99% of cases.
Boons are gained slowly, gained at levels 12, 16, and 20. Servants of the Monitors, though, can enter the Proctor Prestige Class as early as level 8. If entered as early as possible, you can earn your Boons at levels 10, 14, and 16. You MUST take the Monitor Obedience feat, NOT Deific Obedience. Monitors grant only a single set of Boons.
Boon 1: Sibilant. Gain Aphasia 3/day, Sonic Scream 2/day, or Tongues 1/day.
Nice! Tongues has almost unrivaled utility if you’re trying the diplomatic route in unknown territory, allowing you to speak and understand any spoken language. You can slap it on the party face if you’re not already the Diplomancer, and it can last for hours at a time at higher levels! Since you’re in the business of learning languages, though, you may end up the party polyglot in due time anyway, reducing its usefulness as you put more and more ranks into Linguistics. If you don’t plan on following through on that, though, it can be useful to carry Tongues around with you... Unless you plan on going into combat.
Sonic Scream’s damage is way too low to consider once you advance past level 4, coming in at 4d4 and halving each time it’s used (up to three times per cast). If it didn’t eat your standard actions to use it might have been worth picking, but as it is, using your standard action to deal 2d4 or 1d4 damage is abysmal. Plus, there’s the fact that Sonic Scream prevents you from casting any other spell with verbal components until you use all three of its charges, so casting it just to deal with a swarm of tiny foes will see you creamed by any of the survivors as your ability to fight back is severely limited.
Aphasia is a spell very few people look at, understandably so. It’s a compulsion and mind-affecting spell and is only level 1, meaning its DC is 11+Cha, pathetically low unless boosted via feats or other spells. However, it’s also basically a Save-Or-Suck if used on an enemy spellcaster because, among other things, it keeps the victim from using any spells with verbal components. It also prevents them from communicating with their own allies and ruins their coordination, so there’s rare moments when hitting someone who’s not a caster also works, such as versus enemies with some form of rallying ability, or the power to inspire themselves or their allies with words alone. Slapping it on a dimwitted creature that relies on orders from another entity to function also works.
It’s a hilarious spell to have, is what I’m saying, but it requires some pretty heavy investment if you want to keep it useful at higher levels.
Boon 2: Burning Tongue. 3/day as a standard action, you can transform your mouth into a serpentine maw with a tongue of roiling energy. This grants you a ranged touch attack that targets a single creature within 30 feet. The attack deals 8d6 points of Sonic damage and renders the target confused for 1d4 rounds. In addition, a creature hit by this attack must succeed at a Will save (DC 10 + 1/2 your Hit Dice + your Cha mod) or it is unable to communicate through any spoken or written language for a number of hours equal to your Wisdom modifier.
Oooooohhhhh, now this is a REAL nice power. A beefy 8d6 Sonic damage--one of the least-resisted elements in the game!--on a ranged touch attack, so not even a mountain of armor can protect against it! And, you will likely realize, a confusion effect stapled onto it that hits automatically. No saving throw to avoid or shrug off the effect early, it’s an automatic confusion for 1d4 rounds and only immunity to mind-affecting effects will protect you from it! It really doesn’t matter who you slap with this, because it’s ALL equally hilarious. People under the effects of Confusion have a 1/4 chance of acting normally, wasting their turn doing nothing, hitting themselves, or hitting the closest available target.
That’s a four-sided coin flip each turn and, with only 1d4 rounds to its effect, there’s a chance they won’t be inconvenienced by the confusion at all... But that’s still 8d6 damage you knocked their nose in with, and since you can do it 3/day you can just hit them again next round! The only unfortunate limiter to this power is its 30ft range, requiring you to get within slapping distance of about 84% of all Pathfinder’s nasties, a dangerous place to be if you’re not a melee character.
I do like the touch that you get a snake mouth while using the power, though. I wonder if you can perform the transformation even when you’ve got no more uses of this ability for extra Intimidation points.
Boon 3: Screams of the Deep. As a standard action a number of times per day equal to your Charisma modifier (min 1), you can cast either Power Word Blind, Power Word Kill, Power Word Stun, or Word of Chaos as a spell-like ability, treating your character level as your caster level. You cannot use the same spell-like twice in a row. The saving throw DC, when applicable, is equal to 10 + 1/2 your Hit Dice + your Cha modifier.

Tumblr media
Why, Ydajisk, if you wanted my hand in marriage you needed only to ask. You didn’t need to do this for me!
Some deities are content with giving you a level 9 spell as their final Boon, while most of the Monitors are often too busy to provide you with such power. The Mother of Tongues, however, says “No, MY flock deserves the best” and hands you two level 7 spells, a level 8 spell, AND a level 9 spell on a silver platter. Not only that, but they’re GOOD level 7/8/9 spells! Really hope you didn’t dump Charisma, buddy, because if you did you’re really missing out.
Barbatos may finally have some competition in the Best Boons Ever bracket, though I’ll admit that an obedient Pit Fiend is still more flexible than the Power Word spells. They can only affect one creature at a time, are mind-affecting and compulsion effects (Death is also a death effect, obviously), and require the victim to be below certain HP thresholds, but they offer no saving throw and their effects can often end a battle as soon as they’re cast. Word of Chaos is the unique one here, affecting everyone within a 40ft burst of you and blasting non-Chaotic entities in the radius with pure chaos energy, potentially killing anything too low on the totem pole for you to deal with while crippling everyone who’s more on your level.
Unfortunately, Word of Chaos has zero effect on creatures with more hit dice than you have caster levels, so using it to crunch the boss of a given adventure is a no-go. Extremely effective for wiping out their low-level backup, though... unless, of course, they’re Chaotic. And watch out for non-Chaotic allies you may have, because Word of Chaos doesn’t differentiate between friend and foe.
The only real “weakness” of this Boon is that you can’t use the same word twice in a row, but this isn’t a huge impediment. Its Cha-per-day restriction isn’t much of a restriction when you consider that other deities who hand you the Power Word spells (such as Orcus, off the top of my head) limit you to 3 or 1 a day, whereas a Charisma-based caster can rattle off lethal words up to ten times a day if they have a bunch of Cha-boosting magic items. The power of this Boon lays in the fact that it specifically doesn’t fall into the “save this for later” trap by giving you the option to use it on smaller mobs with how many times per day you can throw it out, potentially saving you way more resources later.
A real good Boon! 11/10! And Ydajisk is a pretty good god to serve, because they’re just a weird book collector! 12/10!
You can read more about them here.
