🌙MOON for noam and 🕷SPIDER for kel? :)
Moon- What is your oc’s greatest wish? How far are they willing to go for it?
Since he was a toddler, all Noam has wanted was stability. In ways, he’s always had it- and in other ways he hasn’t. But whenever he reaches stability in one area- it’s gone in another. Noam has BPD and Autism, and has struggled with psychotic episodes since he was around five years old- and that lack of emotional stability and constant feeling of uncontrollable anger and sadness has been deeply troubling for him for a long time. He genuinly doesn’t mean to hurt anyone when he’s in psychosis, but he has in the past- and dealing with that only makes his emotional stability worse. Noam grew up in two places- one, in southern california with his parents, and two, in the suburbs of boston with his grandmother- he lived with and near the latter after a series of emotional disturbances that set him up to attend theraputic boarding school. Even though the places he’s lived have been stable once he’s arrived- that feeling that he may be moved again never left him. Theres also the issue of relationships. Noam is comforted by the idea of being in a relationship- but also petrified of starting a new one. He feels that he’d like to skip to the part where he’s ten years married and that’s that. But it doesn’t work like that. As how far he’d go- i don’t think he’s ever stopped trying. but stability as a concept isnt as achievable and tangible as he’d like it to be and it ends up slipping away from him time and time again.
spider- What is their biggest fear? Do they have any mundane/irrational fears?
So. The comic I am working on involving kel is deeply based on the idea of relationships- and kel’s fear of intimacy is one of the points i’d like to adress. Kel is a very strong person- she is independant and refuses help at every turn. This is a direct result of the fact that kel has been losing her vision since highschool and feels that she needs to defend herself and prove herself as worthy- something she shouldn’t have to do. Kel had a long term relationship with Mavis all throughout college- the longest either of them had ever had. (around 4 yrs) In reality- Kel, who left the relationship after realizing she was gay, and mavis, who was dealing with undiscovered aromanticism and gender identity struggles both failed to realize the realitionship was little more than a very close friendship- and when the breakup happened- their actual relationship changed very little- but the change of the title of it was enough for kel to step back and look at a few things. Mavis is genuinly the only person kel ever felt safe enough around to show true affection to- phsycially, as in cuddling and the like, and emotionally- as in confiding in mavis about her complex feelings revolving around being a young disabled person. So when she exits the relationship literally- its like she’s in this weird limbo of being single. the relationship she loves and has fufilled her has ended and it hasnt. She is still in a deep emotional platonic relationship- but she can’t call mavis her boyfriend anymore. She has no romantic feelings towards mavis- let me clear that up- but their relationship is important to her still. For a while, Kel is deeply terrified of entering another relationship- she feels anyone new would take advantage of her or hurt her- and while she deeply wants a partnership, she can’t bring herself to do it since the outside world seems too unsafe. and wow that was long winded. anyway. for her like stupid and unimportant fears- she hates the ocean and ponds bc she’s so terrified of water-living creatures aside from fish (crayfish specifically freak her out) so she refuses to swim anywhere but a pool.
#noam is based on both my and my dads experinces with severe depression so.#i tend to write psychotic characters in a sympethetic light but i think the concept that we can hurt others while in psychosis is real#and i want to adress that and the complexities that come with it while not absolving responsibility or making psychotic ppl out to be evil#and with kel its similar. her experience of disibility is different than mine but i want to write a portrayl that shows her as someone who#IS disabled and happy not despite of or because of. she just IS disabled.

From an abled person: Why representing disibility is so important
This is less of the numbered list-style post type that I’ve been using, and rather, more of a story.
When I was growing up, I was increadibly ableist. I’m not going to describe the extent of it exept in relevant examples, mostly because I have no need to randomly list off ableist beliefs when they’re more likely to inspire more ableism than not, but I will say this: it was bad.
For most of my childhood I didn’t see a lot of disability represented in the books that I read. I didn’t really know it existed much, especially since I’m abled, as is and was the rest of my family. I didn’t really have much personal experience. While I knew it was rude to say things about random people, especially rude things, it in no means stopped me from thinking them.
The first realisation that I might not have the full picture, and that these beliefs of mine were flawed was when I was reading The Fault in Our Stars by John Greene. In the story, Hazel has cancer, and to help her survive, she had to have tubes in her nose that would bring her more oxygen. I had seen this before when I was out in public, but my thoughts were always “If you smoke, that’s what’s going to happen; I guess you deserved it.” Which is a shitty, shitty way of thinking. Period. But I didn’t know that. I had always heard that smoking destroys your lungs, and it does (there’s also addiction to contend with here, which is a mental disease), but no one “deserves” to have to use technology in order to keep them from literally dying.

After reading The Fault in Our Stars, I did realise what was wrong with my thoughts. And as I read other books (Still few and far between because there’s not nearly enough representation), I realized that a lot of the ableist thoughts and beliefs I had were both straight up wrong, and also hurtful.
So I started to change my actions. I started learning about more disabilities, both physical and mental. And I started replacing those realy ableist beliefs with things that were not so hurtful. And it has started to change my outlook on the world; a lot fewer people are “helpless” or “deserve it” which honestly makes it easier to connect with people, and also makes it easier for me to understand the broad range of stories everyone has.
It’s been a long journey to completely change this set of beliefs. And despite how far I’ve come, I still have a ways to go. But it’s important to remember that it was a lack of representation that caused me to start thinking like that in the first place, and it was the presence of representation that started me on this path to be a less shitty person.
So some key points
1) Ableism is learned, especially when there’s little to no media to counteract that learning
2) You can become not ableist
3) Representation of disibility is important even to people who are not disabled, because it helps prevent hate
4) There needs to be a hell of a lot more representation.

Personal, playlist? :^)
personal ; is there anything that you always try to add to your writing? like a message or moral? anything that you like to read, so you write it yourself?
two things come to mind right away! I really, really like writing stories about kindness. They can have happy endings because of kindness, bittersweet endings that would have been worse without kindness, or tragic endings due to the absence of kindness--but always, I love writing stories about the affect of kindness/compassion and the lack of it.
I also try to add diversity to everything I write. Both ownvoices stuff, (like autism and queerness), and marginalizations that I'm not (like POC rep and physical disibility) (with lots of research, of course). I know how isolating it feels to not see anyone like you in media, and I want to try and help change that with what I write. Plus, it's just.... realistic. The world is diverse, so stories should be, too.

I do indeed!! I'm actually currently listening to one of the playlists (gfw1's; i'm on "parade" by get scared atm). I really like making them; they're fun, and help get me in the mood for writing.

forgive me for venting into your inbox, but it feels like a safe place to do so: oz's apology scene in ch11 made me physically ill. i'd forgotten what it felt like to lose interest in something within 30 seconds. i genuinely cannot watch this show anymore... then i made an extremely vague reaction post about it and someone told me to ''seek professional help'' then, in the same breath, ''idk what this is about but i'm sure i disagree'' (jhc) and now i don't even want to go into the tag at all.
There’s no problem with coming into my inbox, that’s what it’s there for at the end of the day.
In all honesty, there’s nothing wrong with watching something you enjoy, and then being downright disgusted by the writing choices, because these are topics that affect people in every day life. People go through abuse, disibilities, racism, mental illness, so to see someone write in a show a downright offensive portrayal that completely uses insulting tropes, people who connect with those characters can feel like that’s what the writers feel about them.
On top of that, the FNDM itself has treated Ozpin just as grossly. They’ve either validated RWBY’s intrusive way of getting into his past, downplayed Salem’s abuse of him, blamed Ozpin for getting his children killed ‘cause obviously he should’ve just stayed to be further manipulated and abused by his wife, and now the group are acting like they’re any better than him despite treating their allies even worse than Ozpin ever had.
Loads were disgusted by this portrayal, and add how grossly Ren was treated in this same episode, on top of CRWBY’s own admitted ableist beliefs about Ironwood and his prosthetics, and yeah, no one’s happy with them.

Hope this is okay to ask but I was wondering what your thoughts are on the way Tyrion is treated by some of the fandom, especially Cersei stans? I feel he is held to a different standard to other male characters and as someone with an invisible disibility irl it makes me a bit uncomfortable. I’ve seen many “Lannister stans” who either hate him or want to ignore he exists.
sure it’s okay to ask don’t worry ;)
that said: when it comes to tyrion’s fandom treatment especially on tumblr there’s like a whole bunch of like... WE’RE ABLEIST BUT MASKING IT BEHIND FAKE WOKE ARGUMENTS crap going on because not counting the fact that show!tyrion has been what he was since S5 bc dnd can’t obviously write him and stopped giving peter decent material after then and it shows, but like... show!tyrion being nowhere near as complex as the book version is a problem that 99% of the show characters had so I don’t think it’s like a valid argument:
the premise is that tyrion is outside like TUMBLR and the likes circles a clear fan favorite when it comes to the general audience if not the fan favorite - like there’s more tyrion merch than idk jon snow merch and maybe maybe he was 50/50 with dany but like... I think that if we did a general poll tyrion would come out as the most liked character, which... I mean fair tyrion is an a+ character and he’s extremely relatable on a whole shitload of levels and let me tell you if a disabled character is for once the main fan favorite I won’t complain:
problem is beyond the fact that he’s disabled he’s... about everything tumblr hates in the sense that a) man, b) (presumably) straight man who has a lot of sex to deal with his issues, c) his issues are not exactly pleasant to deal with, d) not Standard Attractive, e) basically his one trump card is outsmarting people so it’s really easy to attach the whole AH MANIPULATING SCHEMING ASSHOLE argument to him, f) an abuse victim from at least his father and cersei but we all know men can’t be abused on this website *rolleyes* plus he hates the shit out of cers/ei which like.. is apparently the cardinal sin and the key to being labeled a misogynist always, which automatically means that when it comes to tumblr asoiaf fandom nine times on ten people will ignore the fact that his disability is a reason people discriminate him and that the treatment he received because of it gave him TRAUMA and start going like AH BUT HE’S A MAN AH BUT HE’S RICH which... doesn’t mean he can’t be traumatized even if he has male and money privilege;
for what it’s worth anyway bc as stated okay being a lannister did mean that he had a better upbringing/situation economically than a commoner with dwarfism but that doesn’t make his abuse any less damaging, but people on here just... don’t seem to get it;
but yeah like the point is that male chars on tumblr are already held at different standards than female ones (again theon gets more shit than cersei ever had for doing a lot less horrid stuff) but tyrion as... the mega fan favorite especially in within the male fanbase (reddit/w-org and the likes) is held to an extra standard in the sense that if the dudebro faction likes him then he’s BAD NEWS, which means that the fact that he’s disabled and that it affects his life is thoroughly ignored because they have to cry about how he has male privilege over c. and so she can’t abuse him (which... lmao the day I read that shit in S2 I was so out, but whatever);
anyway thing is: ‘lannister stans’ in my experience is a thing that like... is weird in this fandom because actually I never met a supposed lannister stan who likes all of them or who doesn’t ignore some exist, like.. usually most lannister stans who pretend tyrion doesn’t exist are either c. stans or tywin stans or both and don’t get me started on how this fandom has a weirdass tywin worship thing going on for which they think tyrion killing him is an unforgivable crime when it was basically what that asshole deserved and the narrative is having tyrion go in the downward spiral for shae not for tywin. c. stans usually say they also stan jaime but like... they stan whichever version of jaime they think exist that is compatible for a book ending that has the murder suicide thing happening that doesn’t exist in the books and they ignore tyrion exists same as their fave, but then again here we fall back in the pit where everything c. specifically does is seen as either fight against the patriarchy or feminist rebellion or trauma justification on account of c. being a woman and if a man does it it’s horrid or if she does it to a man then it doesn’t matter, so like... it’s a lost cause;
anyway like if someone say they’re a lannister stan and ignore tyrion when whether they like it or not tyrion is the only lannister in the main five povs (which i’d like to remind everyone are jon dany tyrion arya and bran regardless of whoever is everyone’s fave) and the one that has most narrative weight then like... just say you like c. or tywin and go;
tldr: while I think that the show did tyrion a lot of dirt in order to make him more... idk cleaned up when the book character is good as it is, tumblr fandom is swimming deep in ableism and denying that men can be abused and affected by that when it comes to tyrion’s treatment, never mind in the neverending absolutely shallow argument that’s everywhere in asoiaf fandom which is that no one outside specific group of people has understood that one of the key messages of these books is ‘how you look outside doesn’t mean shit about your personality and people who aren’t standard attractive are people with needs and personality who also deserve love and have a lot to give and will meet someone who’ll give it to them’, because the race is basically shipping beautiful ppl together even if it makes sense and negating at all turns that brienne/arya/tyrion/sandor/anyone else who’s not standard attractive are like... viable romantic partners on an even level with whoever so there’s that too, but like I think that on tumblr it shows that ppl are extremely hypocritical when it comes to tyrion and that it shows that their wokeness stops at the surface bc if you read those books and miss The Fucking Point when it comes to tyrion’s disability... text comprehension where have you gone ;)
also when it comes from c. stans** I just sigh and roll my eyes but then again c. stans generally think c. is the only person in these books with justified issues and trauma reaction and downplay not only how she abuses others but also the effects on the ppl she abuses whether they’re men or women so like... they don’t even admit how she is with jaime do we think they’d admit it for tyrion? doubt that.
**before everyone else jumps on me: with c. stans I mean the vocal side of c. standom where almost everyone is like that and from whom I never saw once an acknowledgment that she actually did abuse him (or anyone kllkjkgdj), not whichever c. stan around who likes her because she’s terrible/recognizes that she’s bad etc, I mean no ill will, if you didn’t feel called out reading it it wasn’t about you, peace and love.

My father explains A:TLA characters
my dad has never seen A:TLA before, and has absolutely no clue what it’s about! i pulled up pics of a bunch of characters, told him the basics (four elements, the avatar, etc) and then asked him to tell me about the characters. tumblr has a picture limit so i’ll just write down the names
Katara: her name is Jessica. She’s a waterbender. And she’s super whiny
Aang: Spot, that’s his name. He’s an airbender, and he smiles really weirdly all the time
Sokka: Clint. He’s an icebender, but those don’t exist, just waterbenders, so he chops up ice with his axe
Toph: She’s called Slash, she’s an earthbender. (Me: she has a disibility. You can kind of see it in the picture) Dad: she’s mute
Zuko: Black-Eye, an airbender. He’s very dark and mysterious
Suki: Sparky. She’s a really mean firebender
Azula: Slash (again), Jesus she’s really intense looking. She’s an airbender
Mai: She looks like a Karen. She’s also really intense
Ty Lee: She’s so confused... she also looks like a Karen
Uncle Iroh: He’s a waterbending master named Shak Pa or some shit. Like a really weird name. He’s old and wise and trains the avatar
Appa: Is that a flying turd? *cue gasps of horror from me and my brother*
Momo: Oh my god are these just pokemon?? I think this one’s called Mewtwo

We’ve seen an influx of questions about how to write stories based around characters of color, disability, non-binary, etc. when the author does not fall into these categories. Hi, I'm working on a project that has a bunch of characters being written by other people I'm working with. I told them it's okay to write a character with a disibility only if they share that same disibility. What's your thoughts on that approach? Is there anything i could do to help bring good representation in the project? For example, a few characters have autism, but so do their writers, and I know I wouldn't be able to write an autistic character like they could. Thoughts?
Mod Wolfy - Personally (not speaking collectively for all mods), I’m not a fan of the idea that only people with disabilities can write people with disabilities. I think if you’re writing about a character with a disability you don’t share, you need to ensure you’ve done your research and have some idea of what’s accurate and what’s problematic. But part of the reason I’m on here is to help writers, including writers who don’t have disabilities, or don’t have the particular disability they’re writing, get good information so they can write accurately. I’ve very big on a lot of inclusion, including casual inclusion, having people with disabilities just be there. I think there needs to be a lot more stories where characters with disabilities have narratives that aren’t about disability, or defined by disability, or a Serious Exploration of the Character’s Struggle. (Please write me characters with disabilities in stories that aren’t Serious Explorations of Their Struggle.)
For good representation, I’d encourage being inclusive of writers with disabilities, both through good accessibility and through generally ensuring the social environment is disability supportive. And if you’re concerned about a writer doing something problematic, share resources on problematic tropes to avoid and how to find accurate information.

If you have fully comprehensive insurance can you make a claim even though you have not been in a crash or other accident? The car in question has an MOT however it needs extensive repairs and is not drivable. Last year around September I made the grave mistake of letting a friend borrow my car to see his girlfriend and he claimed to have just gotten his license and it was supposed to come in the mail within the next week. I believed him and it's my fault, no question about that. He got pulled over and the cops gave him a ticket for no proof of insurance. And because he didn't have a license, they impounded my car for 30 days, but if he had gotten his license within that time, I could've retrieved my car earlier, but he was not cooperating. To make a long story short, I paid 1,500 out of my pocket to release my car from the impound lot, and my car was insured at the time but he was too dumb to find it in my glove compartment and got a ticket for 2,000. He now wants proof of insurance to dismiss the ticket but I'm not giving him it until I'm reimbursed for the impound fees.
