name: Regine Toxic-sting
race: Elf (Wood)
class: Paladin (Vengeance)
characterisation: Whenever anyone attempts to defile the forest, they're there. Swarms upon swarms of elven drones, pushing back against the threat... whether real or imagined. Anyone from lumberjacks to lost children, lucky to escape with their lives. But what if one of the drones decided, no more? Regine was an officer in the forest's army since she was young, serving countless missions in defense of the forest and its Overlord. As she fought, she started having doubts: little things here and there, the man who was clearly trying to surrender and was ignored, the woman releasing an injured bird, even the child floating downriver in a basket... that was the last straw. It was all she could do to let the child float out of their territory safely, as tensions rose against her. She was taken to trial, and after a long one-sided 'debate', she was stripped of her titles and given the name Toxic-sting, branding her as a traitor to her people. Unable to remain with the growing hatred, she left for the wilderness. Here, she had to face the choice of removing her armour and going defenseless, or keeping it and facing the wrath of locals. She chose to keep it: a reminder of where she came from, and what she now fights towards...
-
inspiration: Beedrill so this is an odd one. this was out of me looking at my data and going 'hmm I Really need to make a paladin, which ones haven't I used', and trying to find mons that can be associated with vengeance, rather than associating class with a given mon. Beedrill though do tend to chase down anyone who disturbs them (and they're a heck to deal with in Ranger) - I ended up going wood elf mostly for flavour, really, I could see a hierarchy of elves taking after bees. any of the three wood elves are fine, though I'd personally go Aereni and boost perception or insight, or an interesting tool for her to use. maybe she got interested in woodworking out of spite? as for her goals now... she is trained in vengeance, perhaps she wants to use it against what once was her home. or maybe she just uses the skills she learned to fight forwards for a new life. who knows?

Mainline Pokémon Games Based on How Buggy They Are: A Thread
Red, Blue, & Yellow
Tumblr media
Pretty buggy. The Butterfree line set the stage for regional bugs and emotional trauma. Everybody loves Scyther. Inspired use of Cordyceps when designing the Parasect line. Kabuto and Kabutops should have been Bug to honor trilobites for founding Arthropoda. 8/10.
Gold, Silver, & Crystal
Tumblr media
Yes, we had Scyther, but what about second Scyther? Scizor, Heracross, and Shuckle are legends. Game Freak decided to invite arachnids (Spinarak and Ariados) to the party, truly redefining what it means to be buggy. 9/10.
Ruby, Sapphire, & Emerald
Tumblr media
This generation is loaded with bugs! Game Freak realized their mistake in not giving the Kabutops line Bug typing, making up for it with Anorith and Armaldo (who are based on Anomalocaris). They fumble the recovery, however, in not only depriving the Flygon line of Bug typing, but forever making them second fiddle to the Salamence line. The Beautifly, Dustox, and Ninjask lines introduce some interesting approaches to Bug-type evolution. Volbeat and Illumise are there. 7.8/10.
Diamond, Pearl, & Platinum
Tumblr media
DELELELELELEWHOOOOOOP! A smaller collection of bugs this gen, but a well-rounded one. Vespiquen slays. Scorpions get some love via Skorupi, Drapion, and Gliscor. Writing this post is making me realize that slugs, snails, and nudibranchs like the Magcargo and Gastrodon lines aren’t bugs. We grew up thinking snails were bugs, right? Anyway, Yanmega rules. 8/10.
Black, White, Black 2, White 2
Tumblr media
Game Freak’s magna opera. Truly the buggiest games there are. While you have to wait until Pinwheel Forest to encounter your first bugs, you’re rewarded upon arrival with Sewaddle and Venipede, the larvae of the Leavanny and Scolipede lines. From there, you encounter the Crustle, Galvantula, and Volcarona lines. Game Freak has some more fun with Bug evolutions, having Karrablast steal Shelmet’s armor as they evolve into Escavalier and Accelgor (inspired by the real-world interactions between the ground beetle family Carabidae and the gastropods they feed on). Durant is our first proper ant, and we get our first (and only . . . ) legendary / mythical Bug in Genesect. These games made Bug my favorite type. 10/10.
X & Y
Tumblr media
A big step down from the previous generation. This game hardly has any bugs. Do you like butterflies? You get a butterfly. Vivillon is a lovely butterfly that comes in all sorts of colors, but SURELY there are more bugs than that in France. 6/10.
Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, Ultra Moon
Tumblr media
Giant isopods! Diving bell spiders! Giraffe stag beetles! A true return to form. While the native bugs of Alola are great, we are also introduced to the ultra beasts, two of which (Buzzwole and Pheromosa) are really cool bugs. It seems they were going for wasps and bee flies when designing the Naganadel and Ribombee lines, but they don’t really work for me. Faint blemishes on an otherwise buggy generation. 8.5/10.
Sword & Shield
Tumblr media
Centiskorch is the greatest Pokémon ever made. I have them tattooed on my arm. Blipbug is the worst Pokémon ever made. I see them in my nightmares. Interesting that they’re both Bug Pokémon, and that Game Freak really min-maxed with them. Fortunately, Blipbug evolves into Dottler and Orbeetle, who are great. Snom has a place in everyone’s heart, and Frosmoth is elegant as can be. 9.5/10.
Scarlet & Violet
Tumblr media
I love Rellor and Rabsca! I . . . don’t really love the rest! Iron Moth and Slither Wing are great, but they’re nepo babies. Tarountula and Nymble are nice, but Spidops and Lokix leave something to be desired. Orthworm is a a big worm. At the end of the day, these games would be alright if they weren’t so wonkily coded and glitchy. Wish there was a better word for that. 7/10.

(They didn't have the Paldea one 😭)
Part 3 in the DC Pokémon AU, please see previous posts for more lore and I'm still open to more help and suggestions
Check the #dc pokemon au for it
These are just things I shit out and maybe someday I'll properly render everything but my design process for these is make them have a color that their typing has as in pink for fairy and blue for water etc.
Very special thank you to @illusionsignmisdirection for the help with this au and all the wonderful suggestions and ideas
Alec:
Tumblr media
Alec is the ice type gym leader, he is the 1st gym leader overall. His gym is a library and he is the main librarian. He's planned to be apart of the villain team (known as Team Idol) as their leader so under the gym is the secret base which has those annoying ass ice puzzles we all are too familiar with.. and the gym is on top of an ice mountain because your first task is going to be haul ass up that mountain #absolutely and yes he is divorced and his wife took their son as she should #yup He's the only one with a party decided with a Delibird and Snorunt and his later party as the final team boss is to be decided.
For his design I went with icy librarian man that's literally my thought process and a tattered coat to show age and tired energy
Gabby and Ellie:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gabby and Ellie are the grass type gym leaders, the second gym leaders overall. It started off as Gabby, but I imagine she had Ellie join her seeing as Ellie is a good battler herself. I like to think they're married or at the very least promised to each other, as see by the matching rings I gave them. They are so in love really... and I like to think Ellie made their outfits for each other (I couldn't pick which Gabby design I liked better so I put both) because I still think she's a fashion designer and probably her job is working at an office or freelance design, as seen w the pencil skirt and flats I gave her. I wanted her to look cute and professional to show that looks can be deceiving because she's also apart of Team Idol and maybe Gabby might be too, depending on what happens in dcas w her and the villains alliance. Gabby is supposed to give whimsical yes, like the most whimsy grass girl ever who waters her flowers and would shoot you if you litter type of shit. I think sometimes Gabby is solo then Ellie takes over other hours or sometimes they both battle together. Gabbys job is probably the city/town gardener, probably sells herbs and healing items that aren't found in Pokémarts
Hunter:
Tumblr media
Hunter is the ghost type gym leader, he is the 3rd gym leader overall. I like to think his gym is some kind of abandoned warehouse or some other abandoned place turned ghost rave ! Ally is the DJ and does all the electrical work while Hunter battles challengers and puts on performances with the fellow ghosts roaming around. I based his design on the fact that he should be allowed to wear whatever he wants and the neon glowsticks and bracelets are based on his team colors !! Also the pale face paint and make up bc he's a performer duh and a crinoline with tattered fabric bc he's fancy like that. Didn't wanna add too many skulls bc that's Jake's brand he was the first one move over Hunter and his job really just is performer like he performs all the time for cash and relies on Ally dj money too 😭
Riya:
Tumblr media
Riya is the flying type gym leader, she is the fifth gym leader overall. Yes her flying type is because of her assassination attempt on Aiden no one can change me I'm a woman. And also because her with a Bombirdier fits and also an Altaria and Vespiquen, but it's still to be decided. Her design was inspired by sky trainer bodysuits and her shoes height are to reflect her incredible balance and how she's always above everyone else both physically and mentally. I liked adding armor that looks like she's a warrior because let's be real here she is here to WIN. Also gold. She's regal. Love her sm... I think she puts on air show performances and is a celebrity, movie star all over again... like she's so fabulous how can you look away ? Her gym in my head is probably a runway of sorts or movie studio, probably shoots her battling to add into her movies really and yes she's apart of the villain team, she's second in command because why wouldn't she be
Miriam:
Tumblr media
(Queen) Miriam is a retired gym leader, she once was the fairy type gym leader, formerly the eighth and last gym leader. Jake now is in her spot and she sometimes visits the gym. She normally is at home baking and providing for the neighboring Pokémon. I like to think her ace is Alcremie cause of obvious reasons and that Jake gifted her a Fidough to keep her company when he's busy at his job and the gym. She has a more bright and "good" aesthetic than Jake, so her gym was more different than his currently is. I like to think she could be challenged later on if this was a game, like post game ! I like to think she also exposed Team Idol and either was kidnapped or just. Roams free who knows. But she's strong and a wise mentor to Jake who helped him calm down a bit so he doesn't destroy everything with his powers when losing.
Other tidbits:
- This is the Tipiskaw Region and it's like side game regions where no new Pokémon are introduced but old ones are available like from previous generations
- The order is:
1st gym: Alec (ice type)
2nd gym: Gabby and Ellie (grass type)
3rd gym: Hunter (ghost type)
4th gym: Connor (steel type)
5th gym: Riya (flying type)
6th gym: James (electric type)
7th gym: Grett (dragon type)
8th gym: Jake (fairy type)
Elite four: Oliver (normal type)
Elite four: Emily (psychic type)
Elite four: Derek (dark type)
Elite four: Trevor (ground type)
Champion: Kristal
- The name of the Villain team is Team Idol, consisting of Leader Alec, second in command Riya, Grett, Yul, Ellie (maybe Gabby) and Fiore and their goal is for complete domination
- Yul is the first fight due to being brash and a show off, many people believe he's the leader of the team because of this and he is a fire type speicalist (also Yul has big beef w James as they are rival idols and both have Oricorio aces)
- Fiore is a NFE specialist (not fully evolved) specialist with Pokémon that just aren't fully evolved yet, but she is still strong in her own right and she trashed Tom's cop car definitely
- Grett is the dragon type specialist and a gym leader herself who later decides to help you the player (Lake and Drew) to stop the team bc she realizes it's wrong and gives the key pass to the secret base she is STRONG
- Also yes Lake is the female MC and despite not being an all star, Drew is the male MC. Lake is the talkative protagonist Drew is the silent protagonist
- Aiden is the friendly rival with legit one Pokémon, that being Pidove and it eventually evolves into a Tranquill and just stops there. Ellie is the hating ass rival, maybe, I think so yeah
- Tom is a police officer and almost a Looker figure as he is constantly going around the region and yes him and Jake had a thing and it's going poorly like in all stars
- Tom will be kidnapped by Team Idol yes, and other shit occurs which the gym leaders (that aren't in on it) have to help save the day
I like to think this is Jake's reaction to the shit storm Ellie throws at him bc she kidnapped Tom:
Tumblr media
I'll make another post later on with all the complete details of all the characters and their rolls, I'm primarily focusing on the dcas cast

Re: People nerfing Ingo & Emmet's knowledge of Pokemon, part of it might be that the writers themselves don't know every Pokemon. It's like how the brothers' train knowledge gets nerfed because most fic writers don't know more than the average person about trains. I've seen fic writers forget things like Ground-types being immune to Electric moves, or thinking that Mold Breaker works like Neutralizing Gas, so this wouldn't surprise me. 1/2
[ 2/2 It was a pretty big surprise to me the first time I learned that not everyone has every Pokemon's typing, the type chart, and things like that memorized, though. Then I remembered that I'm autisms georg adn should not have been counted. In conclusion, fic writers use Bulbapedia challenge 2024. ]
ah man maybe i've been reading too much into it this whole time. maybe we've just been wildly overestimating the average pokemon fic writer's knowledge level. that they're just underestimating how much you can memorize, and they're like "who would know the appearance and types of the entire pokedex from names alone??" (me. i would. and also everyone else in the room i bet.)
that's a joke, like, that's probably part of it sometimes but i think most pokefic writers are uhh nerds. they probably know better.
also serious talk for a minute, PokémonDB has been my go-to for quick fact checks for like, ever. their linktree is just so straightforward and so much of it autofills that it's so easy to just go to /pokedex/vespiquen or /ability/leaf-guard. and like, i love bulba, obviously, they're the best place to go for actual in depth stuff, but they're also like, very dense. pokemon pages have got game plots and anime appearances and everything all mixed in together. pokedb? this is a factsheet for the mainline games. it's got such a nice layout. look at that type defenses chart. i barely even have to scroll down. if all i need to know is "wait, what kind of moveset could gliscor be working with here, at this level" or "what else can you actually find in the places sneasel appear?" that site is a lifesaver. skim the pokedb page before you write about a pokemon. this has been a psa. thank you.

Pokémon Crossover AU
Been working on some Pokémon crossover AU ideas for all my stories lately, mostly starting out as just team ideas for my characters before I thought about how they would fit into the world of Pokémon. Since the Hue Shifters characters here come from a more “fantasy” setting(though it is modern/contemporary fantasy), it has been an interesting challenge trying to translate them into the world, but the biggest challenge was because they are all supernatural creatures/monsters themselves. I tried looking up to see if they exist in the Pokémon world but I couldn't really find anything, so I just omitted that information for the moment and tried my best to still make them fit in the world. If that all makes sense! One extra detail about this AU in particular, but I decided to give Coral, Saffron, and Primrose all one bat Pokémon each, since they are all vampires and it was just fitting.
But yeah, I hope you enjoy! :3
=============================================================
- Hyacinth
Tumblr media
. Works primarily with grass types
. On his team he has Sawsbuck, Stantler, Bellossom, Shiftry, Lilligant, and Gogoat
. One day when he was a kid he followed his sisters into the woods on a search for new Pokémon, but soon an accident happens that causes him to not only get separated from them, but have him eventually wake up in a new location with little memories of the event
. He has spent the rest of his life since then scouring the depths of each region, hoping to find his sisters again
- Azure
Tumblr media
. Works primarily with psychic types, but does work with some water types due to growing up near the ocean
. On his team he has Primarina, Bruxish, Malamar, Espeon, Medicham, and Overqwil
. Grew up in a very big and dysfunctional family that made him all the eager to get out and travel as soon as he could
. Starts off battling and making many rivals, before eventually becoming a successful coordinator and model, seemingly doing a lot better in life now(though he still feels like something is missing in his life)
- Coral
Tumblr media
. Works with a few types, but primarily enjoys dark and flying types
. On her team she has Gliscor, Raticate, Murkrow, Mandibuzz, Grimmsnarl, and Hitmonchan
. Second-born daughter to a powerful crime syndicate, growing up she always felt overshadowed by her older sister
. Due to feeling like she doesn’t quite fit in with her family and being seen as an ‘outcast’ by her peers in the community she grew up in, when she was old enough she abdicated her role in her family’s organization to instead focus on battling and becoming a champion
- Maris
Tumblr media
. Works primarily with water types
. On her team she has Wartortle, Golduck, Omastar, Cloyster, Kingler, and Milotic
. Started off as a researcher before getting interested in journalism
. Often goes undercover to investigate the larger crime teams of the world, planning to use her findings to not only alert the public, but hopefully get the more powerful ones taken down
- Saffron
Tumblr media
. Works primarily with fire/fighting types
. On his team he has Golbat, Emboar, Infernape, Skeledirge, Ninetales, and Scrafty
. Doesn’t have any super big aspirations in life, mostly just plays video games and do fun and cute internet things with his ‘mons
. Cousin to Coral, becomes more interested in participating in actual battles thanks to her influence
- Marigold
Tumblr media
. Works primarily with fairy types
. On her team she has Florges, Dedenne, Ribombee, Hattrem, Beautifly, and Vespiquen
. Comes from a very rich and powerful family, had a lot of pressure put on her to succeed which caused her to run away one day, where she then bumps into some older kids with “scary” Pokémon that thought it would be funny to rough her up a bit(this is where she gets her scar)
. After that she wanted to build up her physical combat and Pokémon battling skills to ensure it wouldn’t happen again, but her true interests lie with modelling
- Gracen
Tumblr media
. Works primarily with rock types
. On his team he has Onix, Golem, Rhyperior, Marowak, Excadrill, and Golurk
. Second-born son of a rich but humble family, he never stood out much compared to his ‘flashier’ and more successful brother, but doesn’t mind as he prefers staying out of the spotlight
. Had a close relationship/crush situation with his childhood best friend Amethyst, but after she goes missing one day he becomes a lot more withdrawn as he feels a part of him is now missing
- Primrose
Tumblr media
. Works primarily with poison types
. On her team she has Swoobat, Venomoth, Seviper, Sneasler, Salazzle, and Drapion
. Eldest daughter to a powerful crime syndicate, has been chosen since she was young to become the next leader someday
. Always charismatic and well-liked, she has won numerous contests and showcases but she is also a strong trainer in her own right too, as she was expected to become strong at Pokémon battles to help ensure no one can threaten her family’s business

Deadly Doubles for Pokemon Unite!
So let's get the facts straight. In Pokemon Unite, Unite Licenses are the way for you, the player, to 'get' a Pokemon to play as. A Unite License allows you to play as one pokemon only, which makes sense. A pokemon has a single evolution line, so you'll only play as a single evolving pokemon sometimes. Though, that isn't always the case.
While there are split evolution pokemon of which you can get a Unite License for, they are either limited, such as Urshifu committing to a specific moveset based on its form chosen, or separated into different licenses, such as all of the Eevee based evolutions. In essence, you're always playing as 'one' pokemon.
So let's break the mold here. What if you got TWO pokemon for the price of one Unite License? Would that make the pokemon better than the others? More importantly, which one would you pick?
First off, if you voted for Plusle & Minun or Ninjask & Shedinja, I have made movesets for them if they were in Pokemon Unite. Give them a read if you've got time (though they are a bit cumbersome to get through).
Secondly, if you voted a different pokemon but can't quite visualize how they'll play, then sit tight. I'll briefly go over each one.
Volbeat & Illumise play with Illumise leading the two, since Volbeat obey them through pheromones. Illumise directs Volbeat to attack and use moves while it can use its own moves defensively or to support the team together.
Solrock & Lunatone fight with their backs facing each other, because of the whole sun and moon thing they've got going on. One move slot contains two moves that each will perform at once. For example, Move 1 can be Fire Blast and Moonblast, with Solrock launching Fire Blast from its front and Lunatone covering the rear with Moonblast.
Beautifly & Dustox start out as two Wurmple, which then becomes a Silcoon and a Cascoon, before finally evolving into Beautifly and Dustox. Beautifly mainly attacks, but Dustox can interrupt the move at any time to perform a defensive pivot. For example, Move 1 will be Air Cutter, but Dustox can cancel into Poison Powder to help the two make a getaway.
Rather than working together, Zangoose & Seviper spend the whole match trying to kill each other. But for the most part, Seviper disappears and hides in the grass, leaving you to control Zangoose all game. However, your moves are always 'aimed' at the Seviper in hiding, which will counter with something sinister like Poison Tail or Poison Fang, your enemies are just likely to get caught in the crossfire.
Similarly, Tatsugiri & Dondozo would leave control to Tatsugiri, with Dondozo appearing for the Unite Move and for when you activate the Commander ability, which temporarily gives you control of the big fish.
Vespiquen & Combee has the bug lady have a loyal subject at her side at all times after evolving. The Combee will react to moves such as Defend Order or Attack Order, attacking the entire area based on your command.
Throh & Sawk would treat the match as a round of wrestling and would use their Inner Focus ability to tag each other in when swamped with hindrances. The ability would go on cooldown afterwards, but it would be a great way to turn a tight spot into an advantageous comeback.
Lastly, Glalie & Froslass starts with a little Snorunt by itself, but then gets a protective ghost to follow it around as it fights. Froslass hides with its Snow Cloak ability and will appear and disappear to fight alongside you.
And that'll do it. I went mostly with the canon Dex entries to come up with these short descriptions of all the choice's playstyle. this did end up making the post a lot longer than I needed it to be, but as it turns out, you can't edit posts with active polls in them. I thought it was better to put everything down first.
This took a while, so make sure to vote if you've read this far. Which Unite License would you pick?

ML Pokemon AU starters
For the ML Pokemon AU, what would starters be?
Like, Marinette starts off with a cheerful Ledyba that uses moves creatively (anime canon that Agatha's Golbat used Supersonic to reflect a Pin Missile back at the attacking Pokemon, Marinette could totally do that too)
Adrien starts off with a lazy Meowth, but it's a dark-type Alolan Mouth because he's rich and his father wanted him to stand out
Chloe... Marinette's a bug-specialist so if we wanted we could say they were friends once and she helped Chloe get a Combee before Chloe went full Spoiled mode and switched to fairies, and Chloe pulling Combee/Vespiqueen out again could be the equivalent of her redemption arc
Nino might be a Prof. Oak trainer with a Squirrel that love to tap out a beat or sing a tune when it uses Rain Dance and that taught itself Bubble or Bubble Beam because it's extra like that.
Alya's actual starter is a Zorua, but it's a Zorua who near-constantly imitates either a Vulpix or a Fennekin for kicks and uses its disguise to eavesdrop and sniff out stories for Alya.
Sound solid so far? (Also, I head-canon that the rule to bill yourself as a type-specialist means more than half your team fielded in a given competition must be of that type, so Marinette could still have a Rattata and Chloe fielding Vespiqueen isn't actually prohibitive to billing herself as a fairy-type specialist.)
-
Okay so!!
I do have thoughts on them in my Au:
Marinette does have a Ledyba! That one was on the money!
Adrien I actually have his starter as an Eevee but it very quickly maxes out friendship to become an Umbreon. Within the story Gabriel originally didn't want Adrien to get a starter yet but he sneaked out and Gabriel isn't cruel enough to make him give the Pokemon back once they bonded.
For Chloé! I do debate betwen Combee and Ribombee a bit. I only lean toward the latter because it's Fairy but honestly everyone has at least one Pokemon that doesn't quite match the "theme" and I like Combee/Vespiquen more overall(and they're more Bee tbh). But I do have plot relating to Chloé having 'regrets' with her starter choice but pulling through and loving it anyway.
For Alya, I just cut out the middleman and go for either the Vulpix or Fennekin as both are Trickster Foxes of sorts. Usually lean toward Fennekin despite her HC username being 'Vulpix" lmao.
For Nino I actually went with a Turtwig because I'm gonna be honest I like that line of turtles better. Give me break I have a soft spot for the Sinnoh pokemon.
Re: billing themselves as type specialists:
I think that, while everyone leans toward a certian typing or theme, the actual rules surrounding typing only apply to certain situations. Gyms will have certain typing so if you want to work in one(either as a Leader or the extras fought beforehand), you must limit to those types while on the job. But ofc when you're not working you can use whatever types you like.

What do you think about the Combee line? It's not the pokemon most would think of when you say bee pokemon but I think it's cute.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love this little guy. It's just such a fun take on a bee, having each of the cells be it's own little individual that come together to form a single hive. They even pile up on top of each other while sleeping!
Tumblr media
I know some people don't like how the line is primarily male because this isn't accurate to real bees (real bees are mostly female); however, this never particularly bothered me as Pokemon are fantasy creatures first and foremost, and it makes sense to have the gender-specific evolution be the rarer one so you have a specific reason to hunt for a female Combee.
Really, my only design complaints are that orange feels a bit faded and the female's red triangle feels rather out of place. However, with that said, the red triangle is mean to connect to Vespiquen's red forehead and it's nice that there's some sexual dimorphism in there, so I'll give that one a pass.
Tumblr media
Vespiquen (side note, Beedrill and Vespiquen need to switch prefixes; Beedrill is not a bee and Vespiquen is not a wasp) is a sweet design and probably one of my personal favorite bug types. The concept of a literal "queen bee" is really straightforward, but the design is awesome, with a honeycomb dress, a headpiece, and some giant mandibles.
I also really like how it raises Combee in the dress holes, but I do question how that works. It mentions it raising grubs, but Combee hatch from eggs as Combee and they definitely aren't fitting in those combs. It kind of makes me wonder if this line was conceptualized as a three-stager that got cut down in development, though of course I can't prove anything.
As for the design, once again, my only complaints are mostly nitpicks--the way the eyes "clip over" the headpiece feels weird, the wings could've stood to be like 10% bigger, and the round thorax feels like it should've been more hexagonal to better fit the angular look of the rest of the design.
Going back to what I was saying earlier about Combee, I also think the orange is a bit low-contrast. I don't think it needed to be a different color, but it just needed to be a bit of a darker, richer orange to really make the colors pop. (Though granted, this might just a problem with the official art, as the sprites seem to show it with a more contrast.)
Tumblr media
So as a whole, Combee is a fun little concept and Vespiquen's design is just awesome overall. Definitely a favorite line of mine.
(Side note, I know some people have questioned what happens to the other two larvae when they evolve, but I always saw it as their minds fusing into one. If for no other reason than that makes Vespiquen a literal hivemind and I love puns.)

Cinderquil
Word Count: 4900+ (oneshot)
[AO3]
Genre: Fluff/Friendship
Characters: Cinder Fall, Cinder’s Pokemon
Summary: Pokemon AU. Ever since they were young, Cinder's only Pokemon has been her starter, Ella the Houndoom. She is proud of her position as her Trainer's sole companion and sees no reason for anything to change, thank you very much. So when Cinder brings home a new addition to their team, Ella's world is turned abruptly upside down.
Warnings for implied/reference child abuse and animal abuse
Inspired by this art by @astoria00!
~0~
Ella, like her Trainer, had no concept of downplaying her own importance.
She considered herself the paragon of partner Pokemon. Ever since she was a little Houndour, tripping over her own paws and barely able to cough out a flame, she had always done her best to look after Cinder. The girl she had grown up with was whip-smart and strong, as hotblooded as any Fire-type, and Ella would follow her commands without hesitation.
That being said, she didn’t always understand what was going on in Cinder’s head. For instance, coming to this unfriendly and unfamiliar region on the orders of that shadowy organization. Sure, the safe house they’d been provided was comfortable, a small and cozy cabin in the woods, but, Ella wondered, at what cost? She had been alone for hours.
Ella watched the thick forest around her with all the alertness of a hunter, gnawing at the large Grumpig ear she had been given. It was not hard work, guarding the cabin while Cinder was out on her mission, and it was clear that Ella was better suited for the job than Talonflame. The Flying-type had been lent to Cinder by her new leader for easy transportation, and while the supercilious look in his eyes got Ella’s hackles up, she didn’t feel threatened by the new addition. Talonflame was, if not temporary, nothing more than a utility.
Ella was Cinder’s only Pokemon. As for Ella herself, she disdained the company of both humans and other Pokemon alike. None of them had ever done anything for her: all she needed was her Trainer.
It was growing dark, and she could smell impending rain in the air — not unusual, in this awful cold and wet region — and was glad when she caught Cinder’s scent alongside it, growing steadily closer. She did not move from her spot on the front porch, but her ears perked up and her gaze homed in on the speck of red in the distance. Small as it was, it stood out against the dark greens and cloudy greys that surrounded them.
Ella didn’t scramble up and run to her as she would have in the past — she had learned professionalism alongside Cinder as well — but her shoulders relaxed and her barbed tail flopped back and forth against the wood. Finally, her Trainer was home and things were the way they were supposed to—
Wait a blasted minute.
What was that?
“Hello, Ella,” Cinder greeted her as she stepped out of the trees, as if everything were normal. “Did you miss me?”
Ella jumped to her feet with a furious bark, the Grumpig ear clattering down the stairs. Her tail stood straight out and her head reflexively jerked up and down, showing off her horns to the tiny, dirty, squirming thing that Cinder was carrying into their house.
To the Cyndaquil’s credit, she got the picture immediately. She didn’t even try to flare up her back before emitting a loud squeak and attempting to leap out of Cinder’s arms, presumably to scurry back to whatever hole in the ground she had come from.
Unfortunately, instead of coming to her senses and letting it go, Cinder held Cyndaquil tighter, close and protective. After a few seconds, she curled up timidly against her chest.
“Shh, relax, it’s okay. Ella’s not going to hurt you.” She narrowed her eyes warningly at Ella as she walked up the stairs and into the cabin. “Ella is going to be a nice girl and hear me out.”
No, Ella damn well would not. Not without standing her ground and making her case. She followed Cinder inside growling and bristling.
Once the door was shut behind them, the one Pokeball at Cinder’s belt burst open, and Talonflame flapped across the living area to his perch next to the fireplace. His beady black eyes watched them with unusual interest, and Ella resented the sense that she was putting on a show for him.
What’s gotten into you?! she barked at her Trainer, who had begun trying to coax Cyndaquil out of her defensive ball. You said all you needed was me! Why would you do this without even asking me?
True, all Cinder could hear was “Houndoom Houndoom Houndoom Houndoom,” but after all this time, Ella knew she was getting the gist of it.
“I realize that this is sudden,” Cinder began, her tone deliberately calm and even. “But I couldn’t exactly leave her there and run back to check with you. And we can’t just toss her out now that I’ve brought her here.”
Ella snorted. Very convenient for both of them. And how soon can I expect to be replaced? Was I that shameful of a starter?
With her free hand, Cinder reached over to grab a towel from the kitchenette and started rubbing the dirt from Cyndaquil’s damp fur. She let out a muffled squeak at the sudden touch, but didn’t uncurl.
“I expected to run into some people while I was out, that wasn’t the problem. There’s plenty of towns and cave systems around these mountains to look through. I didn’t plan on actually battling anyone, but apparently somebody on the trails had something to prove. One of those rich boys — you know the type, of course.”
Yes, they had met more than enough of those in their time. One of Cinder’s new teammates even seemed like one all grown up, complete with an equally smug Toxitricity by his side. Ella didn’t relax at all — in fact, her shoulders tensed up more — nor did she soften her accusing glare, but she did cease growling.
“So he won’t take no for an answer, won’t even break eye contact, and I decide that if he insists, I might as well teach him a lesson. He had three other Pokemon, and they were high-level but sloppy. I’d bet money that he didn’t catch them himself, that they were gifts or trades that he had no idea how to actually deal with. Talonflame made short work of them, but then — hm?”
Cyndaquil had been starting to lift her nose tentatively out of her defensive ball, and only now that she wasn’t too frightened to think did she notice the running slow cooker and containers of Pokemon food on the counter. The realization made her pick her head up and squeak loudly, and the smile that broke out on Cinder’s face was of the sort that Ella hadn’t seen in years.
“Are you hungry? I know, you’ve had a long day...” She dug around in the box of PokePuffs — not strictly belonging to Ella, but who else’s would they be? — and pulled out a Basic Spice to offer it. “Here, you can have this, can’t you?”
Cyndaquil sniffed the treat, and gnawed at it a little, but didn’t move to take or actually eat it. Cinder sighed.
“Well, I had hoped so, but I guess not.”
She gently pushed the treat into Cyndaquil’s stubby arms until they gripped it, and then knelt to set the tiny Pokemon on the floor. Ella tilted her head as she scowled down at her: what was the matter with her, stumbling around like that? Had she hit her head somehow?
Cinder shot Ella a warning glance that, in Ella’s mind, was completely uncalled for. “Be nice.”
Ella huffed, and stalked deliberately closer. Cyndaquil paused in trying to figure out what the PokePuff she held was, and looked worriedly between the human and Houndoom glaring at each other. Once Cinder was satisfied that Ella would not, in fact, rip the smaller Pokemon’s head off like some kind of feral beast, she turned around and started going through the cabinets and minifridge.
“I did beat his whole team, as far as I’m concerned,” she went on with her story as she retrieved the big saucepan and a carton of milk. “All the ones who were fit for battle. But when I held out my hand for the money he owed me, he went purple in the face and insisted that we weren’t done. He pulled another Pokeball out of his pocket, and sent her out. And of course she had no idea what was going on, did you, dear?”
Cyndaquil blinked, puzzled, and nearly tripped over her own chubby legs. Ella’s anger was very quickly giving way to confusion of her own; she knew that the average starter Pokemon wasn’t wildly powerful, to match its equally inexperienced Trainer, but surely they started at at least level one?
“No, she didn’t. I don’t know what garbage breeder they got her from, but she was definitely not ready to be separated from her mother. Even Talonflame backed off.”
Something finally clicked in Ella’s head, and her eyes went wide. She lunged forward, claws clacking on the hardwood floor, to sniff vigorously at Cyndaquil, who nearly fell over backwards in surprise. Under the rainwater and dirt, the scent of juvenile pheromones was unmistakable.
From up on his perch, Talonflame chirruped, amused. It really took you this long to notice? Do you usually growl at baby humans, too?
Ella was too stunned to even bark back. True, she didn’t spend any time around other Pokemon, but she should still have known...
“Obviously this spoiled brat had no business keeping her in his care,” Cinder said, stirring vanilla and cinnamon into the simmering pan. “But fortunately, it was very simple to set up an exchange.”
Talonflame chirruped, amused. Your Trainer throws a mean Mach Punch, Ella.
Cinder smirked at the fresh memory. With her free hand, she reached into her hip pouch, pulled out the shards of a shattered Pokeball, and tossed them into the trash can. Ella heard muffled clinks, and caught a glimpse of a coin purse that definitely was not theirs. Or, well, it hadn’t been before.
“I think it’s about time we start expanding our team, anyway. We’re in service to a very powerful leader now. We should be meeting a higher standard.” She glanced at Ella while digging back in the cabinet for the Vespiquen honey, and amended, “An even higher standard. I know this was a shock to you, Ella, and I don’t expect you to babysit her. But I couldn’t imagine a better example for her than you.”
Well. Ella couldn’t argue with that. She considered Cyndaquil for a moment more, watched her twitch her nose curiously up at her, and then ducked her head down to take the smaller Pokemon’s scruff in her mouth. As expected, she was still young enough that she went limp in her teeth.
Cinder blinked, but didn’t move to stop her. “Ella? What are you doing?”
Ella didn’t respond; she was already carrying Cyndaquil over to the living area. She laid down on the rug, deposited Cyndaquil between her front legs, and set about licking her short, downy fur. She wasn’t sure how Typhlosion mothers usually groomed their young — she barely remembered how her own mother had done it — but this felt right.
Cinder smiled and returned her attention to the pan on the stove. Cyndaquil, for her part, didn’t seem upset, but she was certainly confused.
Who... She was cut off by Ella’s wide tongue sweeping over the top of her head, but tried again. Who are you?
My name is Ella, she informed her, making sure to get the back of her neck. Cinder’s hasty rub with the towel hadn’t done anywhere near enough to rid her of the residue on her fur, and it certainly hadn’t done anything for the scrapes on the skin underneath. I am your teammate now.
Oh. Cyndaquil squirmed around some more until she could look up at Cinder’s back. That lady’s nice. And warm.
Her name is Cinder. She is your Trainer, and you should do as she tells you.
My Trainer’s sleeping on the ground back there, Cyndaquil said with innocent bluntness. I don’t think he got up yet.
Talonflame let out a deliberate, throaty laugh, and Ella shot a warning glare over her shoulder before returning to her ministrations.
You can forget about him, she insisted to Cyndaquil. All you need now is us.
Perhaps it was only because Cyndaquil was too young to fully grasp the reality of her new situation, but she didn’t question it any further. Instead, she settled down between Ella’s front legs and continued to watch Cinder make her dinner, submitting to a thorough grooming as she did so.
Talonflame tilted his head back and forth as he stared down at them. You’ve changed your tune quickly, haven’t you, Ella?
Shut up, said Ella curtly, in between licks. You’re not staying.
We’ll see about that, Talonflame replied, too lazily to be threatening, as he tucked his head beneath his wing for a brief nap. Wake me when dinner’s ready, will you?
Ella made a noncommittal noise in the back of her throat. She couldn’t find the room to care about that right now. Not when the cabin was steadily filling with sweet and savory scents, when the room was growing warm in the way it only did when the evening chill was falling outside, when there was a sense of comfort settling into her bones that she hadn’t felt in quite a long time.
Not since...ah.
Ella looked up at Cinder, who gave her a knowing smile back. Of course she remembered too.
~0~
It’s only the adrenaline surging through her veins that’s keeping her moving. She just wants to run, run, run, as far and as fast as she can, because if she stops for an instant they’ll catch her and drag her back, but she can’t feel her paws anymore and it’s very quickly not her decision.
The driving rain is already making it hard to see what’s in front of her, but then her vision blurs out completely, and she’s dropped right into a puddle before she even realizes her legs have buckled from underneath her. She doesn’t have the strength even to struggle back to her feet. All she can do is shuffle on her stomach through the mud, inch by miserable inch, until the sore tips of her toes brush rock, leaving behind smears of blood that are quickly washed away.
Her eyes flick upward: less of a cave than a hole in the ground, but she’ll take it. It’s a painful squeeze through an opening that’s just barely bigger than her own body. When she finally manages it, she collapses, lying like a wet pile of fur on the rough stone. Even here’s not really dry — cold runoff drips steadily right into her ear — but she couldn’t move to a better spot even if she tried.
She closes her eyes, the sound of her own labored breathing filling her head. She doesn’t know if she’ll ever get up again, and right now, she doesn’t much care. All that matters is that she’s not moving, that no one can touch her here.
So it takes her a good minute to register the strange scent wafting into her nostrils, underneath the heavy smells of rain and earth: acrid enough to make her nose twitch and fur raise. With a colossal effort, she lifts her head an inch, and finally notices that she is not alone here.
Barely a few feet away, desperately trying to cram herself into the far corner of the cave, is a human not much bigger than her. A little girl, just as skinny and soaked as she is, her amber eyes huge with terror. She wonders what she’s so afraid of — wonders if there’s anything behind her, if she should be afraid too — before realizing.
Oh. This was your hiding place first.
The girl doesn’t seem to have been here long: she’s out of breath, eyes puffy and red, and none of the mud spattering her once-white shirt and pants has dried. She gapes at her for a long moment, before hesitantly scooting forward and reaching out towards her ears.
What ear she has left pricks straight up. She might have intruded on this human, sure, but that doesn’t mean she gets to touch her.
Her hackles raise, her lips pull back, and she snaps at the offending fingers the second she realizes where they’re going. She misses — the girl gasps and scrambles back again, holding her hand protectively to her chest — and her smooth, flat-topped teeth clack painfully together.
“I-I’m sorry!” the girl yelps. “It’s just...you’re hurt.”
She’s fine. So what if her ears and tail had been cut into this awful shape? So what if she’s been robbed of her fangs, and now her claws? She’s still a Pokemon and not some spoiled brat’s toy. Still strong, strong enough to defend herself against one pathetic human.
She growls, but it’s weak even to her own ears. She is strong, it’s either tell herself that or lose hope completely, but she’s running on fumes. If she can’t fight back...if she can’t make them stop touching her...
The girl is doing something puzzling now, and it almost makes her let down her guard. She’s pawing at her shirt as if looking for something, but it doesn’t seem to have any pockets or other affectations. Then after a moment, to her shock, she grabs the one part of it that isn’t filthy, tears a long strip away, then tears that in half with a soft snap.
“Here...” She edges closer, slowing but not quite stopping at her growls. “I — I get it if you don’t want me touching your face. But your paws are bleeding, and...”
She narrows her eyes and keeps her teeth bared in warning: with the combustion pouch in her throat snipped or punctured or even pulled out entirely, whatever they had done to it, a cigarette lighter could produce a bigger flame than she can right now. But she doesn’t have to act like it.
The girl bites back a whimper, the smell of fear still coming off her in waves. “I’m not trying to hurt you, I promise. I just want to help. Please?”
Growls keep bubbling up from her throat, but they’re half-hearted. Against every instinct, she slides her front paws forward. The wounds on her half-amputated toes sting when the scratchy fabric wraps around them, but it’s a small relief to have the bleeding finally staunched.
The girl smiles. “There. Better?”
This close, she can see in the girl’s sunken cheeks and ashen skin how starved she is, spot the jagged outline of a fresh scar around her neck. The faint smell of human blood, not quite covered up by the muck, reaches her nose. Oh. So they really are in the same boat.
She goes quiet, and tries to relax, and is rewarded with the fear-scent steadily receding.
“My name’s Cinder. Do you have a name?”
She heaves a deep sigh in response; she’s never been called anything but mongrel, dumb mutt, dirty animal, and she’s pretty sure those don’t count as names.
“No? I’ll think of one for you, then. Just give me a little bit, I’ve never named anyone befo—aah!”
Thunder shakes what felt like the whole world around them, and they both jump so badly they hit their heads on the painfully low walls. She lets out a whine despite herself, curling tightly in on herself to keep from shaking. Cinder doesn’t look much happier, but instead of recoiling...
“Here...” Cinder mimics her, getting down and snuggling up next to her back on the floor. “I know I’m not very warm, but I should be better than nothing.”
She makes a soft noise of assent. When Cinder slings an arm over her shoulders, hugging her body close and gently petting her flank, it doesn’t exactly make her feel fuzzy on the inside. But it stirs something deep in her chest that she doesn’t have a name for yet, and it’s a welcome distraction from the cold and wet.
“We can stay here until the storm stops. We could figure out where to go together,” Cinder suggests, in a hesitant murmur. “We could be friends.”
Friends. She’s never heard the word before, and isn’t sure what it means, but she wouldn’t mind finding out. She twists her head around and licks Cinder’s cheek, and the girl giggles like she’s never tried to before.
The rain drives down hard and punishing outside, washing away all traces of them. Freezing droplets fall on them from the roof. They’re hungry, dirty, and shivering, with no idea of what they’re supposed to do next. But tonight they’re huddled together, the world outside this cramped little cave does not exist, and for the first time in their lives, they aren’t alone.
 ~0~
“Dinnertime,” Cinder said, balancing four dishes as she came into the living area. Talonflame stirred and flapped down from his perch to join them as she served the meal: beef stew from the slow cooker for the three of them and warm spiced milk for Cyndaquil.
The baby Pokemon let out her loudest squeak yet and bounced out of Ella’s legs when the dish was set beside her, but stopped short of actually going for it, looking up at them hesitantly.
“Go on. It’s all for you, dear.”
Cinder, sitting cross-legged on the floor with them, smiled as she watched the tiny Pokemon scramble eagerly towards the milk.
“You like it? There’s plenty more where that came from. We’re going to raise you to be big and strong, and one day nobody will dare mistreat you. Right, Ella?”
Ella loyally thumped her tail on the hardwood floor: she knew better than anyone. She knew that she wasn’t the starter Pokemon that every child dreamed about, nor, she conceded, had Cinder begun as the cool and confident Trainer that any Pokemon would want. But still they had fought every day to survive together, to become strong enough that nobody could ever lay a hand on them again.
She had evolved under Cinder’s command, and with evolution the body parts that had been carved away from her when she was young were restored to her. Most importantly, it had given her her fire back, and she knew in her heart that she would never have been able to reach that point on her own.
It was just like Cinder used to say, in the dead of one of their countless nights huddled up together: It’s all right if nobody else loves us. All we need is each other.
That had held steadfastly true for them, from childhood to adulthood. Ella saw no reason why the same could not apply to Cyndaquil, if she herself were magnanimous enough to allow it.
As she gulped down tender chunks of beef, she watched the tiny Pokemon lapping up the milk so earnestly she seemed in danger of falling headfirst into the dish. It had taken Ella a long time to train herself out of scarfing her food down like that, so fast she didn’t even taste it, to be sure that nobody would snatch it away from her now.
Though Toxitricity and Drapion still acted as if they would sometimes, just to get a rise out of her. While she was still small, Cyndaquil would be free to take refuge behind her legs or in Cinder’s arms, but soon Ella would have to teach her how to stand up for herself, and to not roll over for them or anyone else. There were a lot of things the two of them — three, if Talonflame decided to make himself useful — would be responsible for teaching their newest member. She ought to start making a list.
Not that there was much room in her head for that right now. Cyndaquil polished off the milk before the rest of them were halfway finished with their meal, and after licking the dish clean, she looked up and glanced uncertainly around at the three of them.
Now that there was nothing to distract her, it was starting to sink in that she was all by herself, in a strange place surrounded by strange people, with no idea what was going to happen to her next. Ella knew that feeling: the sudden drop in her stomach, the cold spreading like frost over her skin. She remembered. She expected that Cinder did, too.
Her Trainer was watching Cyndaquil intently, and at the first tiny whimper that might have been the prelude to crying, she set her bowl aside and held out her arms.
“It’s okay, sweetheart. Want to come here?”
With only slight reluctance, Cyndaquil allowed Cinder to scoop her into her lap. Smiling, she rubbed the tiny Pokemon’s belly with one hand and scratched the back of her neck, just above the incendiary spots, with the other. Cyndaquil let out a series of high-pitched cheeps and squirmed happily in her lap, clearly unused to such affection.
“There, you see?” Cinder cooed, as Cyndaquil twisted around so she could scratch under her chin. “Nothing to be afraid of. This is your home now, with me and your big sister Ella.”
Ella! Ella! Cyndaquil squeaked, delighted. She says we’re sisters!
Ella swallowed a chunk of potato and tilted her head at them. Sister. Another word she would soon be learning to embody.
~0~
The next morning, Ella found her need to pace militarily when impatient at war with her utter disgust of wetness and mud. They had planned a schedule for Cyndaquil’s first full day with them yesterday evening, and it would not do at all to start slacking so soon.
Last night, Cyndaquil had tried to sleep in the corner of the bedroom at first, clearly too used to being shunted out of the way. She had needed plenty of coaxing from Cinder and a commanding bark from Ella to feel safe climbing up onto the bed and letting herself be tucked in between them.
She had slept restlessly, kicking and yelping in her dreams, needing constant soothing to calm down. In the morning Ella had had to drag her exhausted body out from under her blanket, shaking the sleep out of her head. Even Cinder, who had always been a light sleeper anyway, had been rubbing her eyes as Cyndaquil followed her out of the bedroom, bouncing at her heels. Arceus only knew where the little Pokemon had gotten so much energy from.
Ella lifted a paw and shook excess mud from it, her lip curling. Cinder had said that they would only be a minute, it had now been several, and if they didn’t get out here in the next ten seconds she was going to march in there and drag her Trainer out with her teeth—
“Being patient, Ella?”
Ella turned and fixed Cinder with A Look as she watched her coming down the front steps of the cabin, determined not to return her easy smile just yet. She was supposed to have been introducing Cyndaquil to a new Pokeball, but as it happened...
“Yes, I know,” Cinder said, reaching up to steady Cyndaquil as she sprawled happily on her belly, atop her new Trainer’s head. “She does have a new Pokeball now, but I think she likes it better here with us. Right, dear?”
Cyndaquil chirped assent, grinning and swinging her stubby legs.
“You’ll need a proper name soon, too. But training comes first, so watch your sister carefully, now. Ella, if you would?”
Ella gave a firm nod and stepped back, facing the open space in front of the two of them, so Cyndaquil could get a good view of what she was about to demonstrate. The smaller Pokemon, while still idly playing with Cinder’s bangs, was staring transfixed at her. Ella doubted whether she could even muster up an Ember yet, let alone try Flamethrower. Well, then all the better a show for her.
She would never again take for granted how good it felt to flex the muscles in her throat and get her combustion pouch working. It was like taking a gulp of sweet smoke, sparklers lighting just under her skin, as the heat surged up from within her.
Maybe the need to show off to someone younger, which she had never had the chance to do before, gave her some extra fuel: the flames that burst from her mouth burned hotter and stronger than ever, brightening the overcast morning and sending steam hissing up from the puddles before her.
Cinder gave her an approving smirk and some soft applause, but Cyndaquil couldn’t contain herself.
Wow! She took a flying leap off of Cinder’s head and scurried to Ella’s side, mimicking her battle pose. My turn, my turn!
She opened her mouth, throat straining and tail sticking straight out, only to cough up the measliest crumb of flame that Ella had ever seen. It extinguished itself almost as soon as it had been ignited.
Oh, Cyndaquil said plaintively, tail drooping. I...
Ella gave her a nudge with her snout that she hoped was uplifting. Will try again, that’s what you’ll do. As long as it takes. Don’t look so downcast.
“Whatever Ella’s saying to you, she’s right, dear,” Cinder chimed in. “We’re going to become the strongest, but not overnight.”
You do have an advantage. I had to figure this all out on my own. Ella re-assumed her attack position. She would go slower this time, explain the physical aspects of combustion that were innate to all Fire-types, so the little one could better lean in to what felt most natural. You have me to look after you. And when you’re finally ready to be in a real battle, you’ll be far more prepared than the others. Understand?
Cyndaquil nodded very seriously, then mirrored her once more, sparks flying already from her arched back.
Good. Now, watch closely...

So I heard Hollow Knight Pokemon aus are on the menu
Not so much "Hollow Knight characters as Pokemon trainers," as "AU where Hollow Knight characters ARE Pokemon so maybe this is mystery dungeon"
For the most part, I tried to make everyone a different kind of Pokemon unless they're family (like the vessels and Nailmasters) or just generally look like the same species to me (like Elderbug and Zote). ...This forced me to shove some square pegs into round Pokedex entries. I also made this about a month ago so I'm a bit confused by some of my own choices, in hindsight, but there's only so many fitting Bug mons.
Ghost- Fomantis (on account of Fomantis being something that looks like a bug rather than being a bug; it has the right proportions & silhouette, and has a lil bit of a cloak, and since it's either a bug-shaped plant or a very plant-aligned bug it seemed fitting for something born of Root) THK- Lurantis (same reasoning as above, but now Tall)
Hornet- Spinarak Herrah- Ariados
Quirrel- Karrablast (I seriously considered making him a Wimpod or Golisopod, but I decided that Karrablast looked more Quirrel-y than Golisopod could, in the end)
Elderbug- Swadloon (it has the right sort of forlorn look to it) Zote- Swadloon, but somehow lamer (since I think Elderbug and Zote are the same species)
Cornifer- Kricketune Iselda- Leavanny (which I guess makes her the same species as Elderbug and Zote, but nothing else fit her. The runner-up choice was Ledian, which worked even less)
Sly- Masquerain
Bretta- Illumise, very tentatively
Myla- Ledyba
Confessor Jiji- Sliggoo
Tiso- Durant
Cloth- Nincada
Last Stag- Vibrava
Nailmasters- Vikavolts
Nailsmith- Heracross, which fits him like a glove. If I was forced to defend just one of my HK-characters-as-Pokemon picks, it would be Nailsmith as Heracross
Grubs- Wurmples Grubfather- An extra large Wurmple, I suppose. When all of the grubs are rescued he gives you Beautifly's Elegy.
Salubra- Shuckle
Snail Shamans- Shelmets and Accelgors (in nice spiral hats, of course)
Mosskin- Burmy family Unn- some kind of divine Swalot
The Hunter- Genesect (I excuse him being a Legendary with the headcanon that The Hunter was once the higher being of Deepnest. Otherwise, I'd pigeonhole him as Kabutops)
Grimm- Gliscor Grimmchild- the tiniest Gligar, but somehow Fire-type
Mister Mushroom- Shiinotic Various Fungal Wastes folk- Paras/Parasect, Foongus/Amoonguss, Shroomish/Breloom (Waaah)
Mantis Youths/Mantis Petras- Scythers Mantis Lords/Mantis Traitors- Scizors of varying size Traitor Lord- Mega Scizor (empowered by the Infection)
Monomon- Tentacool
Marissa- Vivillon
Lemm- My notes from a month ago say Venomoth, which makes no sense. O great Lemm fan, kindly pick up the torch where I have dropped it, and succeed in picking a Pokemon for Lemm where I have failed
Lurien- I'm just making him a Yanma or Yanmega because nothing else works for Yanma, and nothing else really seems to work for Lurien either
Tuk- a VERY large Venipede
Ogrim- Golisopod Isma- Ribombee or perhaps Roserade (if it wasn't a Mythical mon I'd make her a Celebi) Dryya- Leavanny Hegemol- Pinsir Ze'mer- Shedinja; she looks like she should be a Pheromosa, but I'm hesitant to make anyone short of a higher being an Ultra Beast
Seer- Butterfree
God Tamer- Durant with a giant Kabuto Lord Fool- Armaldo
Hivelings- Combee Hive Knight- Beedrill Vespa- Vespiquen
Midwife- Drapion (its mandibles remind me a bit of her mask, and its typing fits her vibes better than Centiskorch)
Marmu- Caterpie Markoth- Dustox Xero- Ninjask Gorb- Blipbug No Eyes- another Shedinja Elder Hu- Volbeat? Galien- Pinsir
The Radiance- a divine Volcarona
The White Lady- a divine Tsareena?
The Pale King- some kind of divine & very stylized Orbeetle? I'm drawing a blank here
—————
Okay I FINALLY got around to answering this, I started playing PMD and it reminded me of the post.
I’m gonna be honest I do not know many of these pokémon so I would be bad at deciding whose who.
But I think the vessels should be phantumps. Look at the shiny version. It’s literally a vessel.
As for Lemm, I asked my friend and they suggested he could be a galarian yamask, since they look like they are holding little relic pieces!

Pokemon Card of the Day #2236: Vaporeon-EX (Generations)
Tumblr media
The Generations set was a rare one in that it had some of the evolved forms of Eevee in EX form but not all of them. Vaporeon-EX was 1 of the 4 chosen, and it could hit rather hard when considering the Energy needed. It also had to avoid taking any hits at all to do that, which was obviously a major problem to try to deal with. Trying to make that work would be a pain.
180 HP was enough to take a hit from anything but the strongest attackers, and most of the common ones would need 2 turns to actually reach that amount. Vaporeon-EX was reduced to not doing much from that hit, though, so you had to play it as if it was quite frail despite the nice HP. The Grass Weakness was expected and made sure that Vespiquen, Golisopod-GX, and Decidueye-GX didn’t need to bother with just weakening this to go for a KO instead. That Retreat Cost was also rather annoying, as you didn’t want to be giving up 3 Energy. You’d want a way around this, whether it was with the use of Trainers or a pairing with Manaphy-EX.
Bubble Drain was weak. 30 damage for a Water and a Colorless wasn’t close to enough. 30 was healed from Vaporeon-EX, and you could see what they were trying to do by keeping health up here, but 30 wasn’t going to heal enough to make a difference against almost anything.
Deep Squall was quite impressive if Vaporeon-EX was healthy. 130 for 2 Water and a Colorless was up there with some of the better attackers out there, as the game at the time had a lot of attacks around 120. There was a huge catch, though. Each damage counter on Vaporeon-EX lessened the attack’s damage by 10, and even a moderate amount of damage resulted in doing little to nothing to the opponent. Using this required all sorts of healing items, and even having Rough Seas and Pokemon Center Lady wasn’t always going to be enough.
Vaporeon-EX had to avoid damage to have any chance, and doing that in a game with big damage everywhere just wasn’t reliable. Things had to go perfectly to keep up with any serious deck, and this card was better off staying in a collection as a result. While this evolution of Eve wasn’t great, some of the others in the same set were a good bit better, so this wasn’t the sign of a trend despite being in a collector-focused set.

[Image Description: A woman with light skin, blonde hair in a ponytail, and teal eyes with heavy dark circles underneath. She is wearing large red glasses on top of her head, a green hooded jacket, a yellow t-shirt with an image of Spinarak (a green spider-like Pokemon) on the front, blue lounge pants, and pink slip-on shoes. She is sitting on the ground with a pale green laptop on the ground between her legs, and on the back of said laptop is a glowing green bug emblem. Beside her is a fan-made Pokemon design resembling a butterfly with large grey wings with black accents, a purple body, long black antennae, blue hands and feet with little grey “claws”, blue and white insect mouth parts, and large red eyes that have a “sinister” shape. The background resembles the background for bug-type Pokemon as seen in Pokemon Go, with leaves and a dew-covered spiderweb over a green and yellow gradient. End ID.]

"Sup, Trainer. Welcome to the Cantessy League, and it looks like I'll be your first Gym challenge. Name's Kora, I work with bugs, both real and virtual. Bet you're thinking this Gym's puzzle would work better at an Electric gym, huh? But there's a funny reason why we call computer errors 'bugs'. Decades ago, when the processing power available in our Rotom Phones would require machinery the size of this room, a wild Venonat got tangled up in some wires and caused enough glitches as a result to shut down a whole data center. All joking aside, bugs are a force to be reckoned with when you know how to handle 'em. Ready to see what I mean?"
And here's the first Gym Leader of Pokemon Circuit! I wanted to emphasize the main conflict of tradition and nature vs innovation and technology, as well as the way these elements can harmonize, so that's why the first Gym Leader of Plow is ranch-themed and the first of Circuit is computer-themed.
In Circuit Version's Shelbyton Gym, you'll face off against Kora, a computer technician who specializes in bug-types. She loves all kinds of creepy-crawlies, and she gets that not everyone does but she's still gonna love 'em and she will show you how good they are. Before you can fight her, though, you'll need to get through the Gym challenge of connecting various platforms in a "web" of circuitry. You'll fight Gym trainers along the way of course, and eventually by making enough connections at each web stop you'll open a door at the end of the Gym in order to reach Kora at the end.
Kora's initial Gym battle comes after you've had quite a bit of time to train up, so her team's a bit higher leveled than most first Gym Leader teams. She has a Spinarak at level 16, and then she'll follow it up with a Falseroy at level 18. Shouldn't be too much of a challenge, given she's only the first Gym Leader and all, and you'll especially have an advantage if you chose Calflame and picked up a Cardling. There is a bit of a battle gimmick that I'll explain soon, but since you'll both have access to it that addition will just lead to some extra fun. :3c After becoming the Champion, you can rematch Kora with a higher-leveled full team of six: Vespiquen, Scyther, Forretress, Hunneon, Ariados, and Falseroy. ...Wait, there was a Pokemon with "-eon" in its name in her post-game team, does that mean what you think it means? Yes. Yes, indeed. UNNNfortunatelyyyy the way I have my art queue set up we won't be getting to that for a LOOOONG time, but yes my friends, Cantessy has new Eeveelutions. How many, you may be asking? ......Yes :3c

Chapter 12: Invisible Chains
You heave a sigh as you roll over in bed, your arm coming to rest on your forehead before you run your hand down your face. Your eyes are swollen from crying and feel dry and scratchy. You feel stuffy and sniffle a few times before you cough trying to clear your throat of the congestion. Letting out a groan you roll over once again and pull the pillow towards your face and bury yourself into the softness. Maybe, if you hide long enough the world will forget that you exist.
You blink into the morning light a few times and you feel yourself slipping farther away and you fight it, you really do. The darkness that you feel and for a moment you are surprised at how fragile you are. How one experience can break you into pieces once again. You heave another sigh as you sit up in bed, the sheets pooling around your waist and you lean forward. Your head is in your hands and you feel heavy. The kind of heavy that comes with too much crying and not enough sleep. The kind of heavy that comes with feelings that are a little too much sometimes. You rub your eyes and blink away exhaustion the best that you can and slowly drag yourself out of bed.
“I’m going to need better glue this time…” you mutter as you head for the shower.
After you’ve gotten ready for the day you stumble out of your room and gaze around the living area. Both Leon and Raihan are there and stop talking the minute you open the door.
“How are you feeling?” questions Leon as he walks over to you. His large hands are on your arms and he’s gently rubbing up and down as he attempts to comfort you. You give him a hesitant smile and nod, not really ready to talk about anything yet.
“You want coffee? Breakfast?” questions Raihan from his place on the sofa, he gets up a moment later, “What do you want? I’ll grab it for you.”
“I’m okay…” you mutter as you avoid his eyes.
“Hey… please talk to us…” Leon pleads.
“What do you need, princess?”
“I don’t really know…” you say with a shake of your head. You gaze out the window to the blue sky outside. It’s going to be a beautiful day.
You shake off Leon’s hands and ignore the hurt on his face as you cross your arms and lean against the counter in the small kitchenette.
“I want to try to get some training done today…”
“Someone needs to go with you,” Leon says before you can even finish your thoughts.
“I know… I just… would rather it not be either of… you…”
You look away to avoid the looks of surprise and hurt on their faces.
“Look we get that you need your space right now, but I would really feel better if we came with you,” Raihan says slowly, carefully choosing his words.
You hug yourself tighter, you don’t want them to see you like this.
“I would just-”
“We’re coming with you. Those bastards have gotten to you twice and I don’t trust anyone else to watch out for you. I went to the Board yesterday to talk to them about this situation and we’re going to be working closely with the police. You’re a confirmed target and the only reason you haven’t talked to the police yet is because I know you don’t want to right now. If you need some time that’s fine, but we will always be within earshot, okay? You can’t be alone right now,” Leon asserts.
You just nod, you know he’s right and to argue with him would be fruitless especially after what happened yesterday. You could practically feel the eggshells the guys are walking on around you. You don’t want to be delicate. You don’t want to be someone that has to be taken care of. You don’t want to be broken anymore…
“Alright, let’s get breakfast and head out. You can shoot some footage for your fans today while you train.”
“Is that really important Raihan?” Leon asks in exasperation.
“If she’s going to be one of the top trainers in the League then it sure is! Plus the more of a following she has the more people there are around her and the fewer chances these assholes have of getting her alone.”
“I hadn’t thought of that…”
Raihan taps his head with a smirk as he wraps an arm around your shoulders and pulls you against him.
“Come on, princess. We’ve got to make you invincible.”
You smile a little as he leads you outside. You release your current team and the guys gasp as they see the changes that befell them yesterday.
“Whoa! Half your team evolved!” exclaims Raihan as Leon smiles brightly at you.
“You’re getting stronger mate! I’m going to have to watch out!” Leon says a smirk as he glances over at you, before going back to studying your team.
“Yeah… they all did amazing yesterday…” you say softly a small smile on your face as you regard your team. They all perk up at the compliment.
You get to work training your team and thankfully it takes your mind off of yesterday’s events. You rotate out your team in order to train some of your other pokemon as well. Queenie, your Vespiquen, and Zuko, your Charmander, along with Bastet your Eevee.
The day ends with the guys setting up a picnic on the hill overlooking the ocean. The sun is setting and you gratefully take the food the guys got for you as you sit on a blanket.
Bastet and Nile are frolicking a little ways away, Arum, Serenity, and Queenie are chatting among themselves as they watch over Zuko and Axel as the duo tumbles around in the grass. Hades and Davine are lazing next to one another under the setting sun. Davine having warmed up to the well-meaning dragon after his heroics yesterday. You assume she has forgiven him for biting her nose.
“You know… If you caught a Ralts, Gothita, and Snorunt, you could have a pretty cool team of kick-ass ladies.” Raihan says out of nowhere.
“Maybe I will…” you say as you watch your team.
“You’ve got a pretty good lineup so far… plus the training you did today seemed to do a lot of good!”
“It’s not enough…” you say as you glare into the sunset.
The guys glance over at you in worry and surprise, “You really shouldn’t-”
You cut Leon off, “I have to be hard on myself Lee… if I’m not how am I ever going to get stronger? You guys can’t protect me forever.”
Leon looks away as he gazes out at the ocean and grits his teeth. You can feel the anger coursing off of him. A cloud of gloom has enveloped the three of you as you watch the sunset. What should be a relaxing time is ruined by your foul mood and you feel guilt eat you up. You’re lost in thought when you feel a force hit you from behind and send you flying forward, face-first into the soft grass. The guys land next to you with angry and indignant cries. You all turn around to see Serenity glaring at you all. You blink at her for a moment before a laugh escapes. You glance over at Raihan to see his beanie almost over his eyes with grass stuck in his dreads and Leon’s hat tilted at an odd angle with a leaf stuck to his face, and you laugh some more. The guys look to one another then back to you before they join in. A squeal of delight can be heard over the hills as Queenie rushes up to Leon and grabs his hat off his head before flying off.
“Hey!” he laughs before he climbs to his feet and chases after the bee pokemon.
Hades rushes up to Raihan and tackles the Dragon Tamer to the ground and the two begin to play wrestle. Serenity bounds up to you and gazes up at you with happy eyes as you laugh at the antics around you.
“I’m okay… I used stronger glue this time…” you say as you pull her towards you. She happily snuggles against you before Davines rushes up to you both and leaps onto your back and chirps happily as you greet her. The rest of your pokemon soon join in either dogpiling Raihan or chasing after Leon and Queenie. Eventually though, they all drift over to you and you feel them one by one curl up as close as they can to you and drift off to sleep. As you gaze around your team and your friends you realize that you aren’t alone this time and that makes all the difference in the world.
A sudden jolt from your bag has you glancing down at it. Your eyes widen as you take the egg out of your bag and place it into your lap. Nile and Bastet have their paws on your thighs as they gaze intently at the egg as it rolls and wiggles around. Suddenly the top of the Egg cracks.
“It’s hatching!!” Yells Raihan as he commands his phone to video the whole thing.
The top of the egg suddenly pops off and gazing up at you with big brown eyes is a tiny Eevee baby. Bastet and Nile are nuzzling the baby happily as they all crawl into your lap. They begin to lick the baby happily, cleaning her and grooming her. You gently lift her from the shell and allow it to fall to the blanket.
“Aren’t you two proud?” you ask them happily. They chirp up at you before going back to grooming their baby.
A ping alerts you to a notification on your phone. You see where Raihan sent you the video and you smile up at him. The guys are leaning over your shoulder gazing happily down at the tiny family.
“She’s going to be the luckiest Eevee in the world,” chuckles Leon. Your other pokemon gather around to greet the newest addition.
“Looks like you have another Eevee to evolve,” Raihan murmurs as he stands up and crosses his arms.
“She just hatched, it’s a little early for that don’t you think?”
You all stay a little longer, until the chill of the night gets a little too much for you and the guys are arguing over whose jacket you are wearing back to the Inn. You ignore them and give Charmander a piggy back ride which keeps you warm enough.
“You know you look good with a Charmander, love…” Leon says, a heat to his gaze that wasn’t there before as he watches you carry the fire lizard back to the Inn. You blush as you glance over your shoulder at him.
“You think so?”
“I do…” he says with a nod and a content smile.
Raihan frowns at the realization that you are training Leon’s signature Pokemon.
“You know you could always train a Trapinch…. I could get you one…” Raihan supplies while he crosses his arms behind his head. You know he’s trying to be nonchalant about it, but you can hear the slight tones of jealousy in his voice.
“Don’t you think I have enough dragons to train Rai?” you ask as you glance back at him.
“Char!” Zuko agrees from your back as he snuggles closer to you.
Raihan scoffs, “You can never have too many dragons to train.”
“Raihan…” you mutter with exhaustion, “I’m good, but thank you. Maybe I’ll train one later after I feel good about my current team.
“But Trapinch is a Ground type! You could use a good ground type!”
You roll your eyes, “That evolves into a dragon/ground type.”
“What, you aren’t… jealous… that she’s training a Charmander are you?” Leon asks slyly a look of amusement on his features.
“Of course not!”
“Sounds like you are…”
You glance over your shoulder to see the tables turned for once. Leon has a smirk on his face and he looks like he’s enjoying the scowl on Raihan’s. You’ve now been traveling with the duo long enough to realize when Raihan is hurt though. The man is cocky and prideful, so you know his incessant losses to Leon grate on him, even if he doesn’t show it. You can see in the slump of his shoulders that your refusal to train his signature pokemon hurt his feelings.
With a sigh you turn back to the front, “I’ll consider training a Trapinch Rai…”
“You will?!”
“If we can find one…”
“Oh I can find one alright!”
You shake your head as you glance back at him once again. This time there is a grin on his face and when he catches your eye he winks at you.
“You know, if she trains too many dragons she just might take your gym, Raihan,” laughs Leon as he smirks at his friend and rival.
“She can have my gym when I take your title. What do you think all of this is for?” Raihan smirks back.
“Oh boy…” you mutter to Zuko, “Here they go again…”
“How long have you been trying to take my title? Six years now?”
The fire lizard nods sympathetically at you. The two of you ignore the duo and continue down the lane until you get back to the Inn. You are pleased the day turned out how it did. The storm clouds might still be in your mind, but you are coping better with them. You know it has a lot to do with your team and support you have from Leon and Raihan. Shutting yourself off like you did before isn’t going to help you.
“I think I really want to open a rescue…” you say softly as you stop and gaze up at the moon that’s hanging low in the sky. The two men behind you abruptly stop arguing at your statement and turn to face you. “Maybe I could be a gym leader too… You guys house abused and abandoned pokemon right?”
You glance over your shoulder at Raihan and regard him curiously.
“Uhh yeah, we do a lot of rehabilitation and rehoming in the off season especially,” Raihan says as he scratches the back of his head.
“Hmm…” you hum as you gaze back up at the stars, “Yes… that sounds like a good idea…”
You nod to yourself as if to show that your mind's made up before you head into the Inn, the duo following close behind you.
When you get to the room you post the video of your newly hatched Eevee and watch in amusement as the comments are flooded with fans cooing in awe over the baby pokemon. You thought about posting some photos of your newly evolved pokemon but think better of it. You don’t want future competition to know your team too early.
A pair of arms wrap around you and you lean back into a strong chest.
“You did good today, Princess.”
“Thanks, Rai,” you say as you feel his arms give you a gentle squeeze.
He hums in your ear as the two of you settle against one another, his presence giving you a sense of peace. The sound of steady breathing and his heartbeat soothes your turbulent mind. There is still so much going on in your head that it’s hard to focus on one thing.
“What are you thinking about?” he softly asks, his fingers running through your hair. .
“So many things…” you murmur with a sigh.
“Like what?”
“Like…” you pause in thought trying to gather your words, “Like how I need to be stronger, not just my team but me. I let the pressure get to me too much. I need to be stronger menatally and emotionally for them and for myself. What’s going to happen with you and Lee… Will it destroy my friendship with one of you, will it destroy your friendship with each other? What is going to happen with the League? What does my future hold? Can I really do this? How do I deal with the organization? Will they steal my team? Will they hurt my friends or family just to get to me? How far will they go? Why me?”
By the end of your rant tears have welled up in your eyes as they threaten to fall. You feel Raihan gently turn your face to his. He wipes your cheek gently with his thumb and you feel your heart race.
“I can’t promise that nothing is going to happen or that your fears aren’t unfounded, but I can promise you I will do everything in my power to make sure that nothing happens to you. Those assholes aren’t getting anywhere near you while I’m around. And to take at least a little bit off your mind. Even if we don’t work out, I wouldn’t stop being your friend. I can’t say it wouldn’t be hard, because we’re going to be great together,” he says with a wink as you giggle, “but I won’t let that get in the way of our friendship. I meant what I said when I told you I would be there for you. As for Lee and me… don’t even worry about it. We’ve already talked and we respect your decision regardless of what it is and it’s not going to affect our friendship.”
“I’m glad… I was afraid that regardless of what happens in the future that I would lose one of you… or both of you…”
“Not gonna happen.”
You turn and bury your face in his chest and just inhale his scent. He smells like pine mixed with his cologne, a clean yet spicy scent. Your arms wrap around his chest and you allow yourself to just be for a moment.
“You know you’re getting stronger everyday, just be patient…” He murmurs against your hair.
“I don’t have time to be patient Rai… What if something happens? What if next time I’m not so lucky?”
“You weren’t lucky this time. You’re a great trainer, you’re skilled and your team loves you. They would do anything for you.”
“It still feels lucky Rai… Like at any moment I could have been defeated and then I would have lost Davine or one of my other Pokemon. I was almost helpless.”
“You know he wants you to doubt yourself right? Because if you’re confident in yourself and your abilities then you don’t need him. He needs you to need him. That’s the only way this is going to work.”
He pulls you against him and presses a soft kiss to your forehead as you close your eyes as you nod against him.
“I’ll be okay…” you whisper.
“I know you will.”
You feel yourself relax against him and slowly drift off to sleep.
Yes… things are definitely different this time.
*~*~*~*
Over the next few days you continue your training and watch happily as your team improves. When you are finally sure that your Pokemon are ready to face Kabu the three of you leave Hulbruy. Nessa and Sonia happily see you off stating they will see you soon and you wave with a bittersweet smile on your face.
You end up heading through the caves in order to get back to Motostoke.
Raihan shivers as he regards the dark and damp surroundings.
“I don’t like this place…” he winces as a droplet of water assaults his head and he brings his hand up to rub in annoyance at the wet spot before putting his hood up. He crosses his arms against the chill in the air and you giggle as you watch him pout.
“Isn’t this the cave you fell into the water in?” asks Leon after a pause, laughing as he does so.
Raihan whips his head around to face his friend, “What are you laughing about?! The only reason I fell in was because I was looking for your lost ass! How did you even manage to get on the other side of the pond?”
“What?” you questions looking between the two men in confusion.
“Leon was calling out for help because he got lost in here and I heard him so I went looking for him. It’s dark so I didn’t see the water when I found him, so I walked right into the pond and tripped. I was soaked and there Leon was just dandy as he laughed at me after I went to go find him!”
Leon laughs at the memory as Raihan swipes at him, “Not funny bro!” But there is a smile on his face as he does so. You shake your head at their antics as you make your way through the cave. You accidentally step on one of those weird looking pokemon, scaring you half to death and battling it.
“I hate those things!” you say skirting around another one.
Leon casually wraps his arm around you as he guides you away from another one. You shudder as you lean closer to his form and he presses you happily against him. He leaves his arm around you as the three of you continue to the end of the cave casually batting the inhabitants of the cave but not really seeking out battles. You giggle as a Noibat swoops down around your head and you bat it away.
“You don’t want to catch one?” Leon asks glancing up at the tiny bat like pokemon.
It swoops down again and ruffles your hair as you duck. You chuckle as you glance up at the playful pokemon.
“No way!” exclaims Raihan suddenly, “No more dragons until you get a Trapinch!”
“They’re so cute though!” you exclaim looking up with a giggle at the purple bats flying around.
You don’t notice the way both men’s gazes soften as they watch you hold out your hand a Noibat smaller than the others lands on your arm. The tiny bat chirps up at you with big eyes before it jumps up into your hair.
“Oh!” you exclaim as the pokemon makes himself or herself comfortable on your head and looks around in wonder at the others flying around.
“I swear you’re the pokemon whisperer… “ Leon says as he regards the creature on your head with wide eyed wonder.
“They know she’s meant to be a Dragon Tamer, only certain people are you know…” Says Raihan pride dripping from his voice as he can’t help but chuckle at the tiny pokemon on your head.
“Is that true Rai?” you ask curiously.
“Sure is Princess, there is this old legend that dragons can sense the heart of trainers. You don’t just train a dragon they have to choose you. They say that back before Pokeballs were even thought of that those training dragons were revered because they so rarely choose a trainer, but when they did the trainers were said to be extraordinary.”
You blink in wonder at the story, “They choose you?”
“Of course, didn’t both Davine and Hades choose you?”
You blink at the man before you. Did they? You recall your meeting with both dragons before your thoughts are interrupted as a Noibat dives down and nips at the one on your head. You duck and let out an annoyed ‘Hey!’ but you can sense the tension in the tiny bat like pokemon now nestled in your hair trembling slightly. As another one drives down to assault the tiny Noibat, you realize that it’s a runt and they are picking on him. Your arms go up defensively to shield it from its attackers as you glower at the pokemon in the vicinity.
“They are attacking it?!” Leon shouts in surprise, swatting another one that dove down almost knocking into him.
“Oh absolutely not,” you murmur as you pull out a pokeball from your hip. Axel is out in a moment the cocky tilt of his head showing his confidence in himself. Perhaps it wasn’t fair of you to sic your amped up Toxtricity on the Noibat in the area, but they were being mean!
You know that this little guy will be coming with you, you couldn’t just leave him here! You order Axel to attack the group picking on the tiny creature perched on your head. After letting out a shock you watch as several of the Noibats fall out of the sky with cries of pain.
You humph as you cross your arms, “Maybe next time they won’t be so mean…”
Your triumph is interrupted by the sound of beating wings against the cave walls and the next thing you know a swarm of Noibat swoops down on you all. With cries of panic you all start to run away from the swarm due to the amount of pokemon filling the cave you can hardly see anything. A hand clamps around your wrist and you are led through the cave swatting and squealing at the pokemon surrounding you. When the pokemon finally calm down and you are able to stop running you look up and see Leon next to you. You glance around and see no sign of Raihan.
“Where’s Raihan?” you ask looking around the cave.
“I don’t know… I thought he was following us…”
“Where even are we?” you ask looking around the dim and damp cave.
“Uh…”
That is the moment you realize your mistake. Leon is awful with directions even when he can see let alone when he can’t.
“We’re lost aren’t we?” you ask looking around with a monotone voice.
“I’m sure we can find our way back!”
“That’s… not what I asked…” you say as you slump your shoulders feeling quite deflated. There is a tiny squeak that comes from the top of your head and your hand flies up to gently stroke the tiny pokemon still perched there.
“I forgot you were there!” you exclaim as you stroke the soft fur under your fingers.
“Hey! Do you think he will help us get out? He must know his way around the cave!”
The Noibat gets up and flutters before the two of you before sinking to the floor and holding a tiny claw up to his small chin. He looks around before starting off down a tunnel and the two of you follow along behind him. In the meantime you take out your phone and send Raihan a text. When he doesn’t answer after a few minutes you try calling him.
“What are you doing?” Leon asks as you pout as Raihan’s voicemail picks up.
“Trying to call Rai… He’s not answering my texts…” you murmur furrowing your brows as you regard your phone.
“Raihan!” calls out Leon his voice bouncing off the walls in the cave. You frown when you don’t hear an answer.
“You think he’s okay?” you ask as you grow more worried by the minute.
“Of course he is! Raihan is a great trainer, I’m sure he’s fine!” Leon reassures you with a hand on your shoulder. You nod as you look away from him.
“I’m just worried… what if something happened to him?”
“Like what?”
“What if when he was running from the Noibat he tripped on a rock and fell and now he’s bleeding! Or he’s unconscious and he fell into the water and he’s drowning!” you say in horror.
“Well uhh… That got dark really quickly…”
“Leon!”
“I’m sure he’s fine! You know him, he probably just got lost,” Leon says as he adjusts his cap nervously.
“Lee… Sweetie… that’s you… you’re the one who gets lost…” you say in a delicate tone.
“I’m not the only person in the world who can get lost!” he says defensively.
“I know that I’m just saying that between the two of you… the more likely to get lost is… you.”
Leon looks ahead with a sour look on his handsome face. It isn’t long until you’re back where you started from with no sign of Raihan.
“Maybe he’s at the end of the cave. He probably figured he would just meet us on the other side…” He murmurs but you can hear the concern in his voice.
“Yeah, you’re probably right…” you crossing your arms.
The two of you nod to one another as you make your way to the end of the cave. When you make it out to the other side there is still no sign of Raihan.
“It’s still daylight…” you say in wonder looking up at the bright sky.
“Yeah I couldn’t tell what time of day it was in there, I thought it was way later…”
“We should go back and look for Raihan,” you say, turning towards Leon with a slight fear in your eyes.
He just nods his agreement and the two of you turn around and head back the way you came. The tiny Noibat jumps back onto your head he seems far happier riding with you than flying or walking, but you don’t mind. He’s too cute for you to say no to. You search the cave for hours with no sign of Raihan and with a defeated sigh you suggest setting up camp for the night, worry eating away at you from the inside out.
The two of you are unusually quiet as you set up a makeshift camp since Raihan has the tent you all usually share. You make a small fire with Zuko’s help, the small fire lizard happily trailing along behind Lee’s Charizard everywhere he went after his job was done. You notice that Chaizard seems happy to have another of his kind and spends the evening showing the tiny lizard new moves and the correct way to breath fire. After Leon finishes setting up your sleeping bags he comes up behind you and wraps his arms around your waist as you cook dinner. He presses his face into your neck and tightens his grip when you lean back into him.
“How are you holding up?” Leon asks softly, his lips tickling your neck.
You shiver in his grasp before you nod softly, “I’m okay… my thoughts ran away with me earlier..”
“I figured they did…” he murmurs as he presses a soft kiss to your hair.
“I’m sorry…”
“Don’t be… You’re worried and you have every right to be. This is also on top of everything else that’s happened in the past few days,” he murmurs against your hair as his hands run up and down your arms. You like his hands. You didn’t know it was possible to like another human’s hands so much but you love his. You love how safe they make you feel.
“Arceus… I freaked out about that too…” you grumble in embarrassment.
“Hey…” he says softly, “It’s okay… you don’t always have to be the strongest person in the room you know?”
You hang your head and vaguely wonder when Leon figured you out.
“It feels like I do…”
“You don’t… it’s okay for you to rely on someone else every once in a while,” his voice is soothing as he holds you close.
“I’ve just… been on my own for so long that… it’s hard… It’s hard for me to let you and Raihan do things for me. It’s hard for me to let you guys protect me. I’m used to it only being me. I’m used to being the only person I can rely on…” you look to the side avoiding his gaze.
He buries his face in your neck again, “But you're not alone anymore. You have me… You’ve always had me, even when you didn’t know you did.”
“Lee…” you murmur with tears in your eyes. You turn in his arms and wrap your arms around his middle burying your face into his chest. He hugs you close to him and the two of you gently rock back and forth.
Dinner that evening is a quiet affair even the Pokémon aren’t their usual rambunctious selves. You know you all feel the void that Raihan’s presence fills. Leaning into Leon you rest your head on his shoulder as he pulls you close to him.
“I’m worried about Raihan,” he says, interrupting the silence, “but I’m glad I get you to myself tonight.”
You giggle as you glance up at him through your lashes.
“Oh really?” You challenge, “What are you going to do now that you do?”
He leans in until his face is inches from yours. You can feel his breath fanning over your face, but you are too lost in the golden hue of his eyes to notice.
“This…” he whispers as he inches closer to you.
“There you two are!” Exclaims a familiar voice.
You both jerk away from one another like you had been caught doing something wrong. A moment later you both leap to your feet and rush towards the figure making his way towards you in the dark. Raihan’s arms are behind his head as he casually walks up to the two of you.
“Where have you been!? We were so worried!” You exclaim as you wrap your arms around him.
“Yeah… you looked really worried…” he says his eyes catching Leon’s, a hard edge to his gaze.
“Rai! We spent all day looking for you! What happened!?”
“Ughhh… my phone broke… so I went to go get a new one…”
“And you didn’t think to find us or tell us… or call us when you got your new phone?” You ask anger tinting your voice.
“I did try to call! I tried to let you guys know I was already in Motostoke, but there must not have been a signal where you were because it kept going to voicemail. So I came back to find you guys.”
“Raihan I thought something terrible happened to you! Like you were seriously hurt! Or dying!”
“Hey now I-“
“No. You should have found us, we could have gone together to get a new phone for you, instead we spent all day wandering the caves looking for you thinking the worst. We were really worried and scared and you literally left us here with no indication that you were fine. I honestly can’t believe you right now.”
Raihan looks away from you with shame on his face, “you’re right… that was really thoughtless of me… I’m sorry.”
You sigh as you run your fingers through your already disheveled hair, “It’s fine… let get some sleep…”
You turn and head towards your sleeping bag as the two men exchange concerned looks. Neither of them have really seen you mad and they vaguely wonder what that means for tomorrow.

Miraculous Pokémon idea.
So a fic idea I have no plans on doing, I don’t really expect anyone to read this but if you do tell me!
In this world Pokémon are mysterious beings that sometimes appear near people in Pokeballs for no discernable reason, Pokémon do not appear outside of being partnered with a human. No human can have more then 6 Pokémon, but it’s rare to get to this point as many people do not even have 1.
The Pokémon represent there partner in some way and you can only have 1 type per person. So a hotheaded person will get only Fire types, while a crafty person will get Dark types. In addition how the Pokémon act also represents them as well, if the Pokémon is cruel then the person is as well.
In addition to normal Pokémon though there are 3 special types of Pokémon. Legendaries, who are absurdly strong, Mega’s who have a stone on there bodies when they appear which if the trainer is talented can evolve to an even stronger form, and Z-users who have are a rare color and can use powerful Z-moves that take an hour to recharge.
Dynamax and Gigamax are area exclusive to only small parts of the UK and central South America, so they may be mentioned but would never be important.
Paris is currently a place of extreme interest due to an unusually high amount of people having 6 Pokémon, and/or some form of the 3 rarer types of Pokémon.
However Paris is being attacked by Akumatization, in which if a Human Partner feels negative emotions the Pokémon can be instantly and strongly turned into a Shadow Pokémon, Shadow Pokémon have increased aggression, increased power, ignore enemy types resistances, and have a special Z-move called Evilization. To stop an Akumatized Pokémon they must be knocked out in which they will revert to normal, however this reversion causes an explosive backlash called Akumatization Retaliation. The only known people related to this phenomenon are Hawk Moth, a terrorist with unclear goals, and an ally that uses Psychic types.
Marinette has Fairy Pokémon and is special in that she has not just 6 Pokémon, but has a Z-user, a Mega, and a Legendary. The first person since Cynthia over 200 years ago to have this, however because of how special it is she keeps both her Mega and her Legendary secret. Her Pokémon are Clefable, Alcremie, Shiinotic, Z-Ribombee, Mega-Gardevoir, and Xerneas. Xerneas has the unique ability where if it knocks out an Akumatized Pokémon they do not cause an Akumatization Retaliation. Afterwards Mega-Gardevoir uses her Psychic powers to shape Xerneas’ powers to restore life to restore damaged terrain, however the limits to this restoration is unknown and untrustworthy. Because of this she uses both her Mega and Legendary to combat the Akumatizartion.
Adrien has Dark Pokémon, with both a Mega and a Legendary, although he also keeps his Legendary a secret because he fears his Father trying to use it. His Pokémon are Crawdaunt, Mandibuzz, Grimmsnarl, Hydreigon, Mega-Absol, and Yveltal. He helps Xerneas as he views Xerneas and Yveltal as partners, and has a strong interest in meeting Xerneas’ human.
Gabriel is known to only have a very protective and powerful Banette and a calm Mismagius. However he is secretly the criminal Hawk Moth, with 6 powerful Ghost Pokémon all under Akumatization with a secret means to keep them loyal, uniquely despite being Akumatized and still being able to use Evilization his Gengar can still Mega. His Pokémon are Banette, Misamgius, Dusknoir, Decidueye, Chandelure, and Mega-Gengar.
Nathalie was only known to have a Mega-Alakazam but in secret she helped Gabriel’s illegal endeavors with her other 5 Psychic types, Reuniclus, Gallade, Gothitel, Grumpig, and Sigilyth all Akumatized. It is unknown why her Alakazam is not Akumatized like Gabriel’s Gengar.
Alya has Grass Types and a Z-Pokémon. Her Pokémon are Roselia, Bellosome, Shiftry, Tsareena, Eldegoss, and Z-Sceptile. She wants to be a reporter and uses her Grass Pokémon to help her manage time.
Nino has Water Types and a Mega. His Pokémon make a nice Rain team in Pelipper, Politoad,  Quagsire, Kabutops, Ludicolo, and Mega-Swampert. He loves music and often uses Ludicolo’s dance with his music to add to the impact.
Chloe has Bug Types and has the rare 2 Mega Pokémon, she can’t use both at once but between the two she has huge power. Her Pokémon are Volcarona, Pinsir, Galvantula, Vespiquen, Mega-Beedrill, and Mega-Scizor.
Sabrina has Fire Types and a Z-move, however she finds herself unable to use the Z-move for unknown reasons for the first 15 years of her life. Her Pokémon are Rapidash, Salazzle, Centiskorch, Typhlosion, Pyroar, and Z-Arcanine.
Juleka has Poison Types but no special Pokémon. Her Pokémon are Drapion, Toxicroak, Arbok, Crobat, Dragalge, and Toxtricity.
Luka has Dragon Types with a Mega and is well on his way to being a Dragon Master. His Pokémon are Flygon, Haxorus, Noivern, Turtonator, Hakamo-o, and Shelgon with a Mega-Salamence crystal.
Kagami has Steel Types and a Mega. Her Pokemon are 2 Bisharp(one offensive one defensive), an Aegislash, an Aggron, Lucario, and Mega-Metagross.
Lila has 3 Dark Types with no special Pokémon. They are Sableye, Spiritomb, and Zoroark.
Penny has Ice Pokémon with no special Pokémon. Her Pokémon are Ice-Ninetails, Avalugg, Lapras, Frosmos, Froslass, and Abomasnow.
Jagged is THE Dragon Master, with both Legendaries and a Mega. His Dragons are Duraladon, Dragonite, Garchomp, Goodra, Latias, and Mega-Latios
Some plot points
Chloe was incredibly powerful with her 2 Mega’s and her Father’s influence she rarely uses strategy able to brute force just about anything. However despite having 6 Pokémon to Marinette’s 4 and 2 Mega’s with a type advantage she’s never been able to beat the Bluenette, which causes her enormous jealousy. Marinette was simply to smart, to quick to plan, for Chloe’s brute force to win.
Sabrina was extremely self-conscious of her inability to have her Arcanine use it’s Z-move for most of her life. This is why she idolizes Chloe who was able to Mega-Evolve her Pokémon at the extremely young age of 5(Beedrill) and 6(Scizor).
Sabine has a Hitmontop and Tom has a Torkoal, both know all 6 of Marinette’s Pokémon along with her interference in the Akumatized Pokémon. They worry for her but know Marinette may never forgive them if they stop her from helping people.
Nathalie prioritizes Gabriel’s happiness above all else, to the complete exclusion of her own happiness or morality.
Lila wants to be Adrien’s girlfriend, thinking they’d make the perfect Dark Type duo, to which he has no interest in. However she despises Marinette as on her first day her Spiritomb was sneaking around when Marinette’s Alcremy found it and knocked it out in 1 move. She is now afraid of confronting Marinette in any fasion but despises her for that.
Jagged played around all the time, but when he got serious he has only lost 3 times in the last decade.
1)To Penny in a 4-v-4 double battle without his Lati’s, despite leaving behind his best Mons and the type disadvantage he took down 3 of hers and her Avalugg, the last Pokémon standing, collapsed seconds after the victor had been declared.
2)To Marinette, he found out who she was and challenged her to a full 6-v-6 match to determine if she has the strength to fight on. She won however all but her Xerneas had been knocked out and Xerneas could neither move or attack, just stand there panting. After losing ina  full out fight Jagged treated Marinette as an equal and despite the just-over 20 year age difference the two are close friends.
3)To Hawk Moth. He had tracked Hawk Moth down and challenged him to a battle, but Hawk moth used his pride against him to make it a traditional 6-v-6 battle, with his Akumatized Gengar sweeping both Lati’s and Garchomp, before losing to Goodra, however Akumzatization Retaliation dropped Goodra as well. Hawk moth then sent out all 5 of his remaining Mons to Jagged’s 2 despite this and the Realtiation’s he was able to knock out all but the very injured Mismagius and the mostly OK Decidueye. Hawk moth decided he needed to kill Jagged rather then any of his normal Akuma tricks, only to be cut off as a massive flare engulfed his Decidueye and even ate it’s Relatiation, a blue blur knocked out Mismagius and threw her away before her Retaliation hurt anyone, a yellow streak saved Jagged and his Dragons, and a massive wave of poison nearly engulfed Hawk Moth before Sigilyth saved him. Sabrina had used her Fire-Z for the first time to overwhelming results, Chloe’s Mega-Beedrill had saved everyone, Luka’s Shelgon evolved not Salamence to take out the Mismagius, and Juleka’s Toxtricity had tried to drown Hawk Moth in a Sludge Wave. Xerneas and Gardevoir got there soon after but they had finally found there restoriation’s limits, parts of the block was still demolished and Latias was in a coma with no one knowing when, or even if, she’d wake again.
Jagged was grateful and took on the 4 as his apprentices/helpers, although Juleka asked to work with Penny instead which was granted.
Sabrina’s confidence had a major boost along with her battle capabilities.
Chloe reacted badly to this sending Sabrina crying, but regreted it, found her later, and had a good cry herself. The two’s relationship is better then ever, possible romantic.
Kagami is around with a crush on Adrien but she despises his father and refuses to give the man any leverage over her or anymore leverage over Adrien so she refrains from presueing him.
Marinette has a crush on Adrien.
Adrien doesn’t have a crush although he is very interested in Xerneas’ partner because he has a strong belief in destiny.
Nino and Alya are interested in each other but dance around it for a bit because teenagers.
Juleka and Rose are dating steadily since they first found out dating was a thing, much to everyone’s shock that 2 teens seem in a happy long term relationship.
Luka has a crush on Marinette which he is open about, but he doesn’t want to make her uncomfortable so he merely told her and flirts, willing to stop if she asks him to or date her if she shows any interest. She has not asked him to stop.
Kagami supports Luka’s crush, Juleka is bemused as is Penny, Marinette is a blushing mess, Chloe supports it if only to get Marinette away from Adrien, and Rose and Jagged are VERY enthusiastic about the whole thing.

Been a long while since I’ve last drawn Aubrey, and I wanted to revisit her.
Aubrey was originally the brother to the Bug-type Gym Leader of the Leazon region. Due to a rather major argument between the two, Aubrey had stormed off away from his brother, vowing to prove that he could become just as capable as him, if not even better than him.
Eventually, Aubrey would end up a part of Team Union, and even managed to net himself a nice position in managing the division dedicated in cataloging the locations of various Pokemon throughout the region for sample purposes. In becoming Pokemorphed, he had wanted a Bug-type form, and was offered a random assortment of catalyst to choose from. In picking, he ended up as a Vespiquen.
A few of the Grunts under Aubrey would also go on to become Combees. Aubrey didn’t really think too much about this, and figured it was something that worked with the theme. After all, a Vespiquen did require some loyal Combees in order to properly get things done.
It wasn’t until one day, however, that one of the Combees slipped up and impulsively called her ‘mother’, which caught her completely off guard. In fact, after that, more of them started to refer to Aubrey as ‘mother’, which filled her with an odd... happy feeling. It felt right, and it even seemed to motivate her ‘children’ to do a better job in their tasks.
Amidst Aubrey’s desire to try and one-up his brother, and to show that he was fully capable on his own, ‘she’ found herself thrust into a strange position that gave her a sense of belonging. She felt at home surrounded by the Combee, and even taking care of them.

As of right now my Ghost Pokémon team has 3 (by the time I’ve edited this, it is now 5) likes! A small victory, but it is a victory nonetheless! And so, I shall continue my fandom Pokémon teams with Hornet's!
Tumblr media
Ariados, Galvantula, and Araquanid are all on here for the same reasons. 1) They are all based off of spiders, even though they do not have the correct amount of limbs. 2) They are a reference to the Weaversong Charm, which is a charm you can get from the Grimm Troupe DLC that summons 3 Weaverlings to attack enemies. The Weaversong Charm is heavily implied to have been for Hornet, according to Dream Nail dialogue from a Weaver corpse. So now, behold Hornet’s trio of tarantulas! Her spider squad! Her triple thread triad! Her arachnid army! There might be more names for them, but I’ll let you guys have a go.
Vespiquen is on here as a reference to Queen Vespa of the Hive. It is implied that Queen Vespa was the one who named, raised, and trained Hornet after Hornet's mother, Herrah, went to sleep to fulfill her duty as a Dreamer. Why is their such an implication in the first place? Because why would a child of a SPIDER and WYRM name their daughter HORNET?
Centiskorch is on here as a reference to Midwife, a centipede-like NPC who resides in Deepnest. As her name may imply, Midwife is/was a midwife, a person who aids in the birth of children and most likely helped Herrah with her birth of Hornet and may have even raised her for a bit. Small note: I considered Scolipede, the only other centipede-like Pokémon, for Hornet's team, but Centiskorch won out for a few reasons. 1) Centiskorch is very clearly based on a centipede, unlike Scolipede, who is a tossup between either a centipede or a millipede. 2) Type diversity. If I were to put on Scolipede, Hornet would have 2 Poison/Bug-type Pokémon on her team. 3) Centiskorch can learn Leech Life, and when you first meet Midwife, you may unpleasantly discover just how hungry she is.
Absol is on here because... I kind of just wanted to fill up the 6th spot. If you guys want, you can just ignore Absol, I just thought Hornet having an Absol would be fitting given her position and history in the game. If you guys have a better idea on what Hornet's 6th team member should be, I would love to hear it, but, until Silksong comes out so that it can give me a better idea, Absol will just be a filler for the 6th spot.
Other note: I actually cycled through a few other Pokemon for Hornet’s sixth spot: Mimikyu, as a reference to Nosk, an infamous boss fight in Deepnest if you are willing to find it (dropped it because I thought it didn’t fit. Maybe it could work as a reference to the Winged Nosk that you fight in Godhome, but I don’t know); Durant, as a reference to those ants that appeared in Silksong (I went against the idea because I’m considering adding Tiso to my au and it’s a pretty common headcannon that he might be an ant which would be the reason why I give him a Durant. I don’t like giving too many characters the same Pokemon, I want each characters team to be unique and I feel like doing that would be a bit lazy. Tiso also will probably not have a full team); and Cacturne, simply because it can learn Needle Arm and is stated to be a hunter (might actually give one to The Hunter if I decide to add him to this au).
