when will people learn that live-action remakes will never be good as their original animated counterparts because the glory of animation is the colour, movement, and fantasy that's just untranslateable to live-action

#the WHOLE POINT of animation is that its NOT live-action #because if it's not live-action then it's not held back by realism #like. mcu costumes don't look the same as their comic counterparts because yes they would look silly!#and mind you the mcu will run too far with that but point being that you use the different mediums of art for different reasons #spiderverse would suck if it was live-action #i haven't watched the live-action atla and i'm not going to for several reasons #avatar the last airbender #winx club #riverdale #the lion king #disney remakes

I was going to put Baron and Toluca on this list (that's, like, a spiritual successor to the OG "Roswell" TV show. Majandra Delfino who played Maria in the show wrote the script, and she and Brendan Fehr who played Michael star in it. They're also planning for more Roswell cameos in later episodes), but it came out and I didn't even know it? But I have no idea how to watch it, though, as I guess it only came out in theaters in Albuquerque. Here's hoping it comes out on DVD or something...

The problem with remakes

Am I making this to yell into the void? Yes.

Is there a point to this? Not really lol

So the last few years after the pancake of 2020 remakes have been forced down our throat at a greater speed. I won’t even touch disney remakes with a 10ft pole because. Well. Iykyk.

But watching Velma helped me figure out why I hate them. Not because it changes the source material. Shaggy hating on weed? That can actually be funny. Hyping up Freds airheadness? Also fun! Amping up traits for a parody can be super fun and funny to watch but this is not that. See, if you can change the names and title of the show and no one would know the difference you’ve made completely different media. This isn’t even an adaption, it’s is straight up a different show. And the comedy is. Really bad. Not even funny bad just why do I have the ability to hear and read subtitles on this fine day bad.

The same problem happened with the winx show. It didn’t need to be changed so much that it can be swapped out for literally any “edgy” teen show. You can have colors, you can deal with “heavy” topics (coughwinxalreadydidcough) that aren’t relationship drama. Velma falls into this as well. Sex =/= good show.

Meta humor is great only when done correctly. And even then, don’t beat it with a dead horse. Don’t make it your sole comedy, it will fall flat and become preachy. Both of these shows suck because they miss what a remake or even parody actually is. Slapping names on a completely different character does not a show make.

Just go watch mystery incorporated, it’s better and the animation holds. Hell go watch the live actions who understood the assignment.

For winx club just stick to the cartoon. Yes it’s old news but how this show keeps getting seasons baffles me. Then again riverdale ran for how long? lol

Basically if a character is no longer recognizable you’re doing it wrong.

Winx Club Remake 🧚🦋

Does anyone else want a Winx Club remake? Dreamworks, Disney, or idk, just someone should give it a try. I’m sorry, I just dont like the Netflix live action adaptation. I feel like some things just don’t need live action versions. I think things like Avatar the last airbender and Winx club should just stay animated. Someone should give the winx club remake a good animation style, maybe kinda like Avatar the last airbender or Voltron, but also keeping the essence of the Winx art style. Some good 2D animation, but also keep the essence of the winx club og designs (except for the unhealthy body types, definitely give them more realistic figures this time). And get some good new voice actresses. Like maybe:

· Tara Strong as Bloom

· Grey DeLisle or Tabitha St. Germain as Stella

· Raven Symone or Cree Sumers as Layla/Aisha

· America Ferrera or Génesis Rodríguez or Cristina Vee

· Jamie Chung or Awkwafina as Musa

· Minie Driver or Hayley Atwell as Tecna (yeah, I kinda want her to be British again, I’d be fine if she wasn’t too tho).

I’m just brainstorming here but yeah I’ve been wanting a Winx Club remake for years (╥﹏╥) tears

I deserve friends who will watch Winx Club with me.

Where are my friends who will binge Winx Club with me so we can reminisce about our childhood obsession with the show and then we can watch a bunch of videos slandering the remake together.

Where are my friends who will let me talk at them about my opinions for a half hour and then let me listen to them do the same. And then we can plan Winx inspired outfits and talk about what kind of powers we'd have.

I was just watching a video about the show and was suddenly overcome by how much I would have loved to have that kind of friendship growing up and how much I want that for my future, so like, hmu if you're about it I guess.

what’s funny about velma (2023) is that they’ve already tried a dark and edgy scooby doo remake. the first live action movie from 2002 was originally directed towards adults, and was rife with dirty jokes, drug references, and cleavage shots of daphne and velma.

you know why the final product didn’t resemble that at all? bc they realized early on that the edgy grimdark angle fucking sucked. they reworked the movie to be more family-friendly— still with a complex plotline, but without the gratuitous sexual references and adult jokes. they did end up keeping a few references to shaggy smoking marijuana (his love interest being named mary jane, for one) but they were super toned down so that they’d go right over the heads of any kids watching.

it wasn’t necessarily a kids movie. i was five years old when it came out, and i loved it, but it was fun for teens and adults to watch too. and even with the dated cgi for scooby, it still has a lot of rewatch value. ask yourself if you think anyone is going to be rewatching velma in 2043 the way people still watch scooby doo twenty years after it was released.

this weird trend of the past few years of remaking fun and campy media into something edgy and full of shock value (wednesday, riverdale, and that awful winx club series come to mind) is so boring and trite and misguided. if you want to make dark media so bad, write something original instead of borrowing the barest skeletons of existing media and distorting them until they’re unrecognizable. it’s such an insult to the creators to have their stories mutilated by people who have no understanding of or appreciation for the characters or audience.

i did it for winx i did it for powerpuff girls anyway here’s my pitch for a good “modern” scooby doo remake

shaggy comes from a family of paranormal investigators. at barely 16 years olds he returns to his hometown of coolsville with his dog after his super rich parents tell him it’s time to live up to the family name, taking him there specifically because of many rumors about cursed areas of the town and crmiinals who take advantage of said rumors to pretend to be monsters themselves. while there he reconnects with his old childhood friends and eventually all together they form the mystery inc... and have to deal with a benevolent yet very clumsy spirit who took over scoob’s body

character thoughts under read more!!!

shaggy is, again, the last of a family of paranormal investigators, who ever since he was a child had to deal with his parents bringing him in adventures and dealing with (real and fake) monsters. you’d guess that would make him brave, but. no that just made him very paranoid. while he acts like the team’s straightman, he’s also the only one who knows how certain monsters work, ironically working as one of the “brains” of the group!

scooby, again, used to be a normal great dane. a little lazy, not even particularly friendly, at least until shaggy brought him with him in coolsville; during their first night out. while he ends up falling into a trap, a benevolent ghost takes over his body, making him able to talk and tell the kids that coolsville is in big trouble and that they need to stick together. overall, he’s the team’s mascot, someone who’s directly connected with the main antagonist similarly to the mystery inc series, but also a goofy spirit (and now dog) who’s appreciating life!!

velma is a seemingly distant and cold nerd, but also the first one who joins shaggy in his adventures after she learns that all the curses and mysteries of her town might be real. her knowledge and ability to think on the fly comes from her being a dnd player and, most importantly, a dungeon master, and out of everyone she’s by far the bravest member of the team. while a little snarky and with a lot of problems with social cues, she’s a smart and quick thinking young lady who’s happy to be part of a real adventure. and also has a girlfriend who may or may not be yet another monster since her being into criminals and monstergirls is a recurring trend now

daphne is part of the popular girls in school, but since we hate stereotypes she also has a reason to be popular other than “she’s pretty XD”. tiktok influencer and vlogger, she joins shaggy and velma almost by accident uhhhh i’d say 3 or 4 episodes into the series, maybe trying to start off a paranormal youtube channel, and eventually gets very close to them. the assigned people person, she knows everything about everyone in town and is generally very charismatic, but make her angry and she’ll make sure that you will remember with who you’re messing with.

fred, daphne’s boyfriend, is a member of the football’s team and the mayor’s son... and for “half” of the first season, he unknowingly acts as a minor antagonist, since i’d say. down with the politicians, the mayor is one of the bad guys, and with fred being a total himbo he accidentally works as his spy. eventually he finally understands that something is up with his dad, especially thanks to daphne who reminds him who truly cares for him, and eventually shaggy and velma too, with who he shares good memories of pretending to be detectives together and watching “that one weird show with the talking dogs and the kids looking for ghosts... goober or something!” he finally becomes the team’s wild card, the brawn and. yea i’d bring back his love for traps and elaborate schemes. he and velma become super besties after she tells him about her latest dungeon in her session
