#will in the middle for willel and byler
I’m sure it’s been posted somewhere before and I just haven’t seen it but still
Tumblr media
More red, blue, and yellow—with yellow in the middle—during a scene Jonathan has a heart-to-heart with Will and tells him “it’s gonna be okay.”

Congrats on the followers, you absolutely deserve them!!
If you would want to, can you write some sibling willel fluff? (I’m sorry it’s not a very specific prompt😭) they’re just,,,so siblings
Hope you are having a good day!
ahhh thank you so so much!!! also WILLEL YES!!! here's a little modern au with high school willel, byler, and elmax for you! :)
boys and boys and girls and girls
So, here’s a piece of advice for you:
Don’t go on a double date with your brother.
Especially if the person your brother is dating happens to be your ex-boyfriend.
Also especially if the person you are dating happens to be your brother’s date’s “worst frenemy” (their words, not El’s.)
Really, El did not think that date through, and it’s a really, really good thing that the four of them have known each other and have been best friends since middle school. She can’t imagine going on a date with a girl as pretty as Max and having it be as chaotic as this one had been. Though, honestly, El doesn’t know why she expected anything different.
First of all, Max has always been unafraid to tell people off—especially if they are rude, like the stupid man who was standing in front of them at the restaurant. So, her fight with him came as no surprise at all to El.
(Also, it was kind of hot, but that’s a whole other story.)
Second of all, Mike has absolutely zero filter and the world’s worst resting bitch face. So, when the poor waitress messes up Will’s order and Mike damn near bites her face off, El really, really can’t say she’s surprised.
(God, she’s glad she’s not the one who has to deal with him anymore. She has no idea how she put up with him for over a year. Thirteen year old El was very stupid and suffering from a very bad case of comp het.)
Anyways, despite the fact that Max and Mike get into fights with people at the restaurant and then some arguments with each other, the rest of the double date goes really well. Max and El kick both the boys’ asses at mini golf, and hey, El gets a few kisses from her girlfriend to celebrate. It’s a win-win situation, honestly.
It is a little bit awkward when Mike drops both Will and El off, though. He’d volunteered to drive tonight since the rest of them have to battle their families for cars, and so, Mike gets the fun job of dropping his boyfriend and El off first and then dropping Max off before he actually gets home.
So, uh… that’s how El ends up standing outside on her family’s porch, kissing her girlfriend and trying her damnedest to ignore the fact that her brother is kissing his boyfriend in the car a few feet away.
(She’s never doing a double date with Will and Mike again. Never in a million years.)
Eventually, El decides to be the responsible one, and she (very reluctantly) sends her girlfriend away, watching in amusement as Max scares the shit out of Will by knocking on his window. Will looks a little bit exasperated, but he gets out of the car with very minimal arguing.
Mike, on the other hand, starts bickering with Max the moment she gets into his car, and even as the two of them drive away, El can hear the two of them bitching at each other.
…
Hopefully, they won’t kill each other before Max gets home. That would be very unfortunate.
“So,” Will says slowly, once Mike’s car has disappeared from view.
El raises an eyebrow, turning to look at her older brother. “So…”
“That… sure was something,” Will remarks. He’s fighting a smile and beating around the bush—typical Will behavior.
“You mean it was a trainwreck,” El deadpans, and Will just snorts. “We are never doing that again.”
“Oh, thank God.” Will breathes a sigh of relief, and he walks over to their family’s little porch swing, all but collapsing onto it. “El, you know I love you and Max, and obviously, I love Mike, but… tonight was—”
“The worst possible thing that we could’ve done?” El finishes.
“Yes!” Will moans, holding his head in his hands. “Have you ever realized we’re practically dating the same person? Like… same person, different fonts, El. I know this whole little rivalry of theirs is just for show, but Jesus, I really thought Mike was gonna end up pushing Max into the water at the mini golf place!”
El giggles, and she takes a seat next to her brother, leaning her head on his shoulder. “Max would have killed him if he did that,” she points out. “And I would have taken a video and laughed.”
Will lifts his head, making a face at her. “Dude, you’ve got to stop threatening to kill my boyfriend.”
“I’ll stop when your boyfriend stops being an idiot!” El retorts, and Will just makes another face at her.
“Don’t be rude,” he scolds, poking her side lightly. “I swear to God, Max is such a bad influence on you. It was bad enough when you were just friends, but now that you’re dating, it’s even worse.”
Once again, El just laughs. “Sometimes, relationships bring out the best in you,” she says wisely, “but other times, they bring out the worst in you. I am happy my girlfriend brings out the worst in me. It’s kind of fun being evil, especially when it gets you and Mike riled up.”
An exasperated little sigh escapes Will’s lips, and he leans his head on top of El’s own. After a few moments of quiet, he mutters, “You’ve really taken this ‘youngest child’ thing to heart, haven’t you?”
“Yep!” El says cheerfully. “It’s a lot of fun. I can see why you enjoyed being the youngest for so long. Sorry you got demoted to middle child.”
Will sticks his tongue out at her. “I hate you,” he deadpans.
“I love you too, Will,” she says, before standing and offering her brother a hand. “Now, come on. I’m in the mood to watch the Reputation Stadium Tour again, and you’re going to watch it with me.”
Her brother just laughs as El pulls him back into their house. There’s a fond, loving smile on his face, and despite their disastrous double date and how their partners are both sort of insane, El wouldn’t change a single thing.
And when Will squeezes her hand and whispers back, “Love you too,” El gets the feeling her brother feels the same way.

maybe this has been said but with the robin/vickie stuff, we have a canon lesbian who is canonically in love with someone who is in a hetero-presenting relationship, making the ga think its a deadend. we see so much pining and then the giving up but Steve told her he has hope.. its revealed vickie broke up with her boyfriend and now its set up where you have to have not watched the last scene to think this isnt happening..
comparing to byler, we have will who is canonically gay and in love with mike, who is in a hetero-presenting relationship to the ga and a lot believe this is the end of where will's feelings would go. however we still have a lot of pining.. from both sides... and then we have will's 'giving up' (not sure on the wording but its sort of like he's accepting that mike isnt like him just like how robin didnt believe vickie could like girls) we then see Jonathan step in a bit like Steve does and comforts will. then again, the final scene is so byler foreshadow-y that the only way you think it isnt happening is if you didnt watch the scene
Yes most definitely! I’m obsessed with this parallel, and ironically, I took a screenshot of this comment on an anti Byler post earlier today:
Tumblr media
Some people are so close to getting it, but for whatever reason, they don’t press any further. Yes, what we are describing IS very similar to the Rockie situation because we’re meant to see the parallels lol. Not just in a general “oh this is kinda similar” sense, but down to the exact framing:
Tumblr media
Other than Will being blurry in this picture, this is the exact same shot, down to the placement of the characters. The gay character (Robin, Will) is in the middle looking longingly at their presumed heterosexual love interest (Mike, Vicki) embracing their current girlfriend/boyfriend (El, Dan). When Robin looks at Vicki and her boyfriend, she and the audience get a sinking feeling in their chest because we assume it’s unrequited, but Steve refuses to lose hope, and Steve turns out to be right because Vicki is bi. In the case of Will, both Will and most of the general audience still assume Mike is straight and that Will’s feelings are unrequited, but the story is incomplete. And if Vicki ended up being queer, what can we infer about Mike???
Tumblr media
Then you have the presumed heterosexual love interest of the gay character turn to look at the gay character with some degree of guilt and sadness in their eyes. For Mike, we see all of Finn’s amazing microexpressions, almost like he’s processing both Will and El in the same space and feeling conflicted about his feelings before he says, “Everyone’s here,” and the Willel reunion happens. For Vicki, her boyfriend asks her who that was and she says, “Someone from band,” but there are more emotions swirling underneath, and this becomes clear when Rockie finally has their romantically-charged conversation at the end of the season. Rockie is obviously endgame. And if so, what does does that say about Byler???
Tumblr media
Likewise, you’re so right, the final scene of the season (as well as the cabin scene, honestly) play a similar role in establishing Byler going forward, even though there’s a lot more work to be done next season with the painting and everything:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And I hadn’t even thought about comparing Jonathan to Steve, but Jonathan’s life-giving convo with Jonathan does play a similar narrative role as Steve’s convo with Robin. You’re so right.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There’s no way these parallels are accidental. So in conclusion:

The ship war between b*ler and m*leven is so strange for me, they're all friends, will and el are family, but the way some shippers talk, you'd think they were mortal enemies😭 (I don't ship or hate either ship, while I kinda hope m11 stay together, it's only because I doubt ST would break up 2 of their pairings with build up since s1, and since I'm a stancy shipper with a hope for a J*ncy breakup, m11 has to remain🤷‍♀️ but that's not shipping, more like reasoning, i guess)
i hate this competition, it's tough for me being a byler (but thinking mileven is a cute ship too) and a willel stan, bc i'm always in the middle trying not to go crazy, bylers making 65766 el slander, milevens making 85755556 will slander, LIKE I JUST WANNA PEACE, THEY'RE ALL CHILDREN AND THEY ALL LOVE EACH OTHER 😭 i think until we get s5 i'll go crazy i'm telling u anon, i find it SO weird fighting this hard for a ship with 14yrs old kids, like its not that deep pls stop

more platonic stobin, also i wanna see robin interact more with mike and will !!! gay people flocking together as they should
hmm i wanna see will get some LOVE, my boy needs a break
i really wanna see if they're really going to give will powers, i love the idea of him having dormant abilities that are going to finally release once he's in extreme danger (or it releasing when he sees mike in danger, that would be so cool)
WILLEL TEAMING UP
mike and will stuck together in the upside down, getting some time for themselves in the middle of an awful situation
i wanna see the breakdown of mlvn's relationship + lettergate becoming real I NEED TO SEE MIKE'S LETTERS TO WILL AND THE WAY HE SIGNED IT WITH "LOVE, MIKE"
el independent girlboss era
elumax REAL cause el and lucas are gonna bond over their love for max, i really wanna see that !!!! they would do anything for herrrrr
lucas parallel w mike in s1 with max "lost" and lucas saying something like "now i know how you felt"
lucas and mike fight, it's happening
i wanna see how grief is gonna change dustin's character, it'll break my heart
i'm expecting to see a confession from mike, and also i wanna see a montage showing the audience mike has been in love with will all along
DELETED FOOTAGED USED .. SHOW ME MIKE GOING HOME CRYING WHEN HE FOUND OUT WILL WAS DEAD
give robin a REAL romance arc, and vickie a REAL plot as well!! i wanna see her get involved with the supernatural stuff and their relationship getting stronger bc of it
i'm in desperate need of mike's pov LET ME INSIDE HIS HEAD !! im sure we'll get it since they need to end mlvn and work on byler anyway
s2 dynamics all the way, pls give me creepy smalltown vibes back

RAE <3 for the byler asks : 1, 6 and 18 (keep in mind my username for 18...there is a right answer. {OKAY IM KIDDING BUT !})
1. Upside Down byler or Vecnaed byler?
definitely vecna-ed!byler. i crave the idea of seeing what's going on in their heads, especially mike, and though i don't love the possibility of him being forcefully outed to anyone, i really want to know more about his internal struggle with his sexuality and his trauma since his thoughts and his perspective have been hidden from us for so long.
6. Soft confession or angsty rain confession?
tbh i think i have a different view on how everything is going to go down because i don't think we're going to get just one confession. i think will's confession is going to be first (and is going to be extremely angsty, probably during the middle of the inevitable painting fight when will thinks he has no chance with mike) and mike's confession will come later and will be much softer and happier because he knows his feelings are reciprocated. so i'm going to cheat here and say both 😅
18. Elmike or Willel?
answered this one here! i think you and your username will be very happy with my choice :')

While watching Vol. 2, for the first time, what was one scene/moment that actually gave you byler endgame hopes, despite mostly feeling hopeless??
Mine was the willel reunion…
Here me out.!
I remember watching the van scene for the first time and feeling like absolute shit. I definitely lost some hope after that scene. And then it was like there was no acknowledgement of what happened afterwards and so I became even more doubtful.
But then they were reuniting with El and it just… it honestly felt like I was watching the scene from the future.
Think about it. The Duffers have most of the series planned out at this point, including the ending. This means that they can curate scenes in s4 to fit better with how they want the show to end in s5.
IF they did want Mike and Will to end up together, how that scene was filmed was perfect, because it managed to respect the current storyline, while also respecting the future storyline as well.
Mike and El reuniting COULD be perceived as romantic, and Will right smack dab in the middle of the frame, viewing it that way himself, reinforces that assumption, in present time.
But then we get Mike instantly drawn to Will, looking at him hopefully and then somberly back at El, THEN again back at Will. And as he walks El over to him, so that they too can reunite, we see Mike kind of looking back and forth quickly between the two of them, trying to both help El walk and smile at Will. Soon after, El and Will are sharing much of the same reunion as her and Mike just did.
We get to see how much Will loves El and that she returns that love for him, all while Mike watches patiently in the background.
This scene managed to discreetly establish that perhaps Mike’s love for El resembles the same love that Will has for her (familial), that El does in fact care for Will a lot, and that Will is in fact not a homewrecker.
WHY do that, unless…
