alhaitham x reader

# 500 words.

“sorry for staring, i was just trying to visualise the shape of your skull,” you say.

alhaitham stares at you, trying to digest your words that confounded him. he was talking about the evolution of languages, how did skulls sneak into your mind? you weren’t listening—that he is certain.

“the staring isn’t bothersome,” he slowly starts as he tries to gather his thoughts. you’re the only person who can make words he took years to study turn evasive. “though the fact you weren’t listening is. isn’t it your idea for me to teach you?”

your mouth rounds in a shape of an ‘o’ as your strong gaze falters. he wonders if you’ve found your answer. his skull should look no different from any other human being, so what did you expect to find?

“well, sorry for not listening then,” you admit before gesturing him to continue. “it’s not that what you’re saying isn’t interesting, don’t get me wrong. i was just… distracted.”

you grab the book that he held, skimming through the pages. there’s a hint of a frown on your face. if he speculated correctly, backed by various equally confusing experiences with you, that frown is a sign of regret for speaking your mind. too quickly. without thought.

“are you not going to elaborate on your claim?” he asks, slightly annoyed at how you hooked his curiosity without fail. “whatever you were distracted with seemed more important.”

you close the book, staring at the ceiling as if there are visible thought bubbles over your head.

“i bumped into kaveh the other day,” you continue, side-eyeing alhaitham’s response. he doesn’t give you a crumb, face deadpanned, even if he wants to roll his eyes. what might have kaveh planted in your head? “you know how i also want to learn how to draw… so… i asked him for a few tips.”

“and?”

“he said it was good to visualise what i want to draw in my head.”

“that’s no reason to be distracted.”

“you’re fishing for an answer, stop it,” you retort, narrowing your eyes. “that’s all i’m going to say, and don’t try to speculate or connect the dots here. i shouldn’t have said that, i’m sorry.” you grab the book on linguistics and stuff it into your bag.

alhaitham just watches, waiting to see when you’ll realise that’s his book. probably in a few days time, which is beneficial for him as it means he’ll meet you again.

“i’ll like to see your artworks,” he says as you stand, ready to leave. you pause and turn to face him.

“it won’t be that interesting.” you stare at the floor, letting out a weak chuckle. “but kaveh also said to always use references and i was thinking if you’d like—” you’re quick to clasp your hands over your mouth. “actually, never mind! thank you for today’s session. i’ll catch you some other time!”

and you’re off.

alhaitham sees your figure retreat in the distance and when you exit the library, he scoffs in an attempt to hide a growing smile.

staring at people and trying to visualise their skull is a very normal thing that i do not do. trying to practice for alhaitham to get a sense of his character because he’s honestly so elusive to write but i couldn’t find a prompt so i made one on my own.

I have to admit that I have a new favorite dynamic and it's 'pining best friend watches his friend fall in love with someone older and colder who is taking care of him and then doesn't get the boy because the rich, wealthy, famous, slightly cold but deeply in love man gets the boy'.

... Look, it's happened twice, this is officially a trope, right?

Well, okay, so we don't know the end pairing in the second one but I have my hopes.

~Choose your own Ending~

It’s not concerning at first. Suna is usually chill, so it’s a breath of fresh air when after his night of having none at all, he is only relaxed and sorry. If Osamu’s being honest, he’s more than ready to forget his attitude. The relief he feels at his friends changed attitude, really is enough for him.

He also bought him a shit ton of his favorite snacks, so that helped him feel some forgiveness too.

Even if they were thrown at his face.

As the week goes on, Osamu realizes some things aren’t quite adding up. Suna is constantly watching him and his partner. He writes it off at first. His relationship is new and with one of Suna’s closest friends, and the two of you hadn’t exactly got along til recently. But still.. Suna staring is making him squirm.

He decides near the end of the week, that he needs to see Suna squirming with him.

Osamu isn’t a twin for nothing, he knows how to be annoying and oh yeah, he knows how to rile people up. It’s what he tries to do to Suna. He enlists outside help from you.

All the work is to no avail.

“Why are you frowning?” Your voice pulls him out of his frustrated kitchen counter cleaning.

“Suna’s hiding something,” he huffs. “I know he does, that damn fox.”

You laugh, wiping a fake tear from your eye.

“Come on, you’re being mean,” your sighing turns into a chuckle as Osamu’s wiping turns aggressive. “we already picked and picked at him, pretty sure he would’ve caved and told us by now if he was hiding something.”

Osamu slows down when you bump his hip with yours. “Seriously, let’s watch a movie and chill like Suna would.”

Osamu grins at that. He had never seen Suna more relaxed than he had this week. There had been the slightest fear his friend was on drugs, though he had quickly come to the conclusion he wouldn’t be able to hide that.

He sighs, letting his answer out slowly as a grin he couldn’t suppress took over. “I guess we can do that.”

book 5 of the year done!!!! im literally one book away from halfway to my goal and the first month of the year isn't even over yet fjsksk i am DEFINITELY going to hit it this year!

#SUUUUPER bummed to say tho that ive made it to the first book of the year i havent enjoyed :/#the worst part is — its the first in a series apparently and like. i WANT to know what happens next #but also i dont CARE enough to want to keep reading the rest of the series yknow?#like. this first book was just SOOOO disjointed #it was ALL exposition #it spent 500 pages giving individual backstories for each of the characters. as in each character l i t e r a l l y told their story #which first of all absolutely BORING way to get to know your characters and second of all NONE od these characters were even likeable!!!#and the worldbuilding was just. weird. it kind of didnt make sense and felt all over the place #and FULLY felt like he was just throwing random sci-fi-y words around to make it sound cooler but like. it wasnt.#and like all these characters are together on this pilgrimage right #but it is NEVER really revealed why/what they plan to do when they get to their end destination/anything like that #and im between each of these character backstories it feels like the same stuff one person is like oh wow what a story lets get some sleep #and then they do and they wake up and they do the tiniest bit of traveling #(which is like. described in the most lackluster barebones way) and then they eat and share another story and rinse and repeat #it was SO boring #it honestly reminded me of the movie the eternals LMAO #all these characters and you get to know a little about them but not enoguh to become invested and none of them are all that interesting #and the purpose of their journey/the purpose of THEM is completely unknown is completely devoid #like it felt like there was no plot #it was. ough not good.#so yeah would NOT recommend hyperion by dan simmons :/#mack reads

reading some reviews and I wanna kiss Tazmuir on the mouth for being the exact opposite of 90% of pop culture right now by making every one of her books completely unpredictable and non-formulaic to the point where a lot of people can’t even read more than one of them because the rest is so different

#i think this is the first time that the hater portion of the internet is completely understandable to me. i understand why they dont like #these books because they ARE a pretty wild shot in the dark and if it lands then great but realistically most people won't like them #''once gideon is no longer the main character the series falls apart because it was relying on her charm'' to YOU. i love gideon as much as #the next girl but to me these books are about a bunch of girls who have messed up relationships with one another that include love #and them doing gradually worse things for that love #gideon harrow and nona are all my beloved girls and i vnever felt disinterest in ANY of their povs sorry not sorry #tlt liveblog #so many disliking reviews of harrow are that it's incomprehensible and im like. yes that's why it's y fav of them.#the moment i started understanding that book will live in my brain FOREVER it was SUCH a good experience. and every time i read it #i understand even more!!! bro!!!!!!! it's SO GOOD but i understand why people might not have fun with it

Between Us — i am watching without having seen much of UWMA. so far it works! i ❤️ winteam.

Oh! My Assistant — cute! i like the assistant, and how gay they let him be. it’s a little slapstick and a little short for my tastes, but i think i will enjoy it.

My School President — the first episode was like the platonic ideal of a light-hearted high school bl. i ❤️ tinn & gun.

Older Shows I’m Slooowly Making My Way Through:

Vincenzo — i did not realize it was a comedy when starting. it’s great though.

Love By Chance — i love ae and pete (and the horny roommate). i’ve kind of stalled out though. took a break when mame started maming, and haven’t come back yet.

Cutie Pie — i have to be in the right mood to buy into the historical romance style of it all, but i generally like the characters.

Minato Shouji Coin Laundry — also stalled out but plan to finish. there are many things i love, but shin is the type of seme i want to throw in a lake, so it’s been hard to get through.

Hometown Cha Cha Cha — i started it like a year ago, before i even really knew what bl was. i liked it, but it’s not really made for binging, and then once i stopped i never went back. but both @petrichoraline and my sister-in-law recommended it to me recently, so i want to pick it up again.

Rewatching:

Nothing. There’s plenty I want to, but I’m just trying to keep up with the new stuff lol.

Plan To Watch:

Everything? Can I just say that? But also I’m trying not to add anything new right now because I need to do real world things. And I’ve noticed that, now that my initial hyper-fixation has ebbed, I get overwhelmed if I’m watching too much at once.

Quick guide for everyone not watching the show: Maitoh is the boy in red, Shogun in black is a music executive and the guy in white is about to lose a whole shitton of business because he felt the need to out someone. @absolutebl I would never say you should watch this show (it's like half singing considering all the main characters are in a band) but DAMN this entire scene was handled SO WELL.
