Sorry if you’re not really into actors’ life but I’m wondering (genuinely wondering no hate or something) but for you Spy and Nut seem to be close? I mean that for me they seem to enjoy each other’s company and stuff (I’m not labeling anything but they may be close 👀)
hi anon! i'm not really into actors' lives indeed but they got asked about this a lot, so i do know they are close and have been since lovefest 2022. here's a pic from nut's ig stories at the time:
the short story is that both garfield and topten were already asleep in the car and sai was worried it wasn't safe for nut to drive because it was so late, so he invited everyone to sleep over at his house and they've been close since. they spend a lot of time together and sometimes go to each other's events, i think it's safe to assume they're best friends at this point lol
not-so-fun fact: they've both gotten backlash over their friendship (particularly nut) because why would people have friends they like to spend time with when they have a business partner they could be doing fanservice with instead 🙄

Ming - I'll treat you horribly because I'm a piece of shit.
Joe - *heart emoji eyes activated*
That boy does not hear a word out of Ming's pretty pouty mouth.
Not. One. Fucking. Word.

stoic illiterate unwilling assassin deeply in love with unfailingly kind rich sad gay man almost stabs his crush's brother because the brother cares so much and so genuinely for the gay man that he searched assassin's room out of worry and found knives and a mysterious letter before being interrupted by the assassin who then does not want to show him the letter which seems incredibly suspicious, only for a later scene (after the gay man interrupts them and thus stops any escalation from happening) to quietly reveal that the very sus letter in possession of this illiterate assassin is not in fact a sign he's lying about being illiterate.... it's just two pages of him practicing the gay man's name over and over in neatly spaced lines...... a reveal which he was going to STAB a man over because he doesn't know that the gay man's brother knows the man is gay and loves him with his whole heart and would never ever do anything to hurt him........ i will never get over this, how could i ever get over this, everything else ever is going to be downhill from here

My favorite part of My Stand-In so far with only one episode is the way the show obscures Joe's face and focuses on Ming's.
The makeup artist states that Joe's body looks exactly likes Tong's, but Joe's face is what makes him not-Tong, so we don't see Joe's face. He is also a body-double so his entire job is about his body, not his face.
We get to see Ming's face because Joe is so focused on Ming's beauty even though we know Ming can and will be ugly, and as a model, Ming's job is his face. "Does that face ring a bell?"
But we rarely see Joe's face, even when Ming is looking at Joe.
Ming is a face. Joe is a body.
Because it's Joe's body that matters, not his face.
So it's interesting that Ming saw Tong's back as he walked away from Ming at dinner
And immediately thought of Joe.
Because it already shows a slight shift that it's not so much Joe that reminds Ming of Tong (like it was originally), but that Tong reminded Ming of Joe.
Once Ming envisioned Joe's face, he shook the thought from his head as if he was bothered by the image, but it wasn't because Joe wasn't Tong, but, once again, that he even thought of Joe, which is why the conversation where Joe stated that he thought Ming didn't remember him was ironic since Ming is slightly annoyed that he remembers Joe's face.
Because it could have been Joe at the dinner with Ming the entire time the way the dinner scene was filmed.
Or it could have been Tong who Ming was kissing based on how it was filmed.
But the shot made sure we were aware that Ming knew it was Joe even if he had been drinking.
When Joe was asked about his preferences, the shot immediately cut to Ming's face.
But when Ming called Joe, we saw Joe's face as he emerged from a room first
Then, the focus was on his back.
So when Ming walked into that elevator and not only looked directly at new Jo
But also stood next to new Jo, nothing registered to him.
Ming didn't react until he saw new Jo's back.
Which should show how the vicious cycle continues: Joe's body was a replacement for Tong, and new Jo's body will be a replacement for old Joe. BUT we didn't see Ming's face when he was waiting for the elevator.
New Jo knew he was coming up, and so did we, so there was no need to block out Ming's face, especially when the story keeps telling us Ming is his face.
But the story is already telling us that Joe wasn't just a body to Ming.
And Ming wasn't just a face to Joe.
They actually saw the entire person, and Ming was the first to see Joe as Joe even if he wanted Tong.
Which is why the poster is even more pleasing now since we see Joe's full face not his back while we see Ming's full back, but only half of his face.
Ming is more than his face. Joe is more than his body.
At least for each other.

watching ep 1 of my stand in, my impression was that the series emphasized quite a lot on joe's bottom virginity...
gif of the wonderful @supanuts
... yet they forgot to include my two most favorite little tidbits regarding this is (1) joe explaining why he's always been top his entire life and (2) joe forewarning ming before they fuck that if his sex skills is mid, he better tell him first. so here are the two excerpts from chapter 10 and chapter 11 respectively.
1. joe explaining why he's been top all his life (this happens during their meal at the restaurant together)
Yan Ming Xiu looked at him. Zhou Xiang’s attraction and desire for him is so obvious that it can’t even be concealed. Actually, there is no reason to conceal it. Between men, it’s better to be direct. Each takes what one needs.
Zhou Xiang leaned close to him and softly asked, “So, have you really forgotten me?”
Yan Ming Xiu gripped his chin and gently touched his lips, “Maybe I’ve only just remembered you.”
Zhou Xiang burst out in laughter, “It’s quite timely.” He bit YanMingXiu’s lips, gently tugging it, “But I’ve been thinking of you every day.”
Yan Ming Xiu asked softly, “Think of me? Thinking of me topping you?”
“Actually, of me topping you but if you’re not willing, I can only suffer this time.”
“You’ve really never been a 0?”
Zhou Xiang jokingly responded, “Nope. I wanted to be (a zero) when I was young, but people wouldn’t even look at me because they thought I looked too mature. When I got older, it was even more unlikely. There are more 0’s than 1’s in the circle…so many fresh meats waiting for me; you think I’d go looking for people to top me?”
Yan Ming Xiu gently reached his hand into Zhou Xiang’s clothes and pinched his slender waist, then says coarsely, “So then, if you’re going to do it with me, it’ll be your first time (being a zero)?”
Zhou Xiang laughed, “Exactly. Don’t you have to be responsible?”
“Haven’t topped you yet, what’s there to be responsible for?”
2. joe forewarning ming before having sex
Zhou Xiang smiled at him, “Let’s agree on something first. I still have to work the day after tomorrow. If your skills are not up to par, you better say so ahead of time, don’t dupe me.” He’s heard of people having to go to the hospital from their first time (being a 0). He just wants to have sex. That’s all. He didn’t want to be embarrassed. Although his words sound quite conservative, Zhou Xiang’s eyes have already nakedly swept at Yan Ming Xiu’s abs. His muscles are too beautiful and his skin so exquisite that it’s reflective. Yan Ming Xiu looks very thin when he’s wearing clothes but that’s probably because he’s so tall. Zhou Xiang didn’t expect that once Yan Ming Xiu remove his clothes, his body would be so firm, paired with his long legs and his face, click-click (clicking his tongue sound), his mood right now is just like a straight male having sex with an exceptional beauty.
so yea these are my two favorite bits that didn't really make the cut even though they were definitely hinting at it already. the other is probably joe was invited to a threesome (to which he declined) before getting the call from ming for that meal.
but in general, i think the series is really fast paced as opposed to the novel and i can see them being able to go through most major plot points of the novel. incredibly excited for ep 2 as everyone could probably tell from my spamming of my stand-in gifs these past two days.

I'm shocked how much I'm actually now looking forward to My Stand In. I remember when the trailer came out I wasn't super interested, and I actually didn't know how I'd feel about the main actor. But having watched the first episode, I'm now very invested. I feel like this has such a strong potential to be a total angst-fest, and I'm here for it
Oh, this show is gonna give us so much pain and hopefully so much healing.
But to start with Joe's death and rebirth and return to the world he's always inhabited, not taking any time or space from what he left behind, slipping back into old relationships despite being someone else but also trying to avoid a different relationship that he was walking back into as well.
And then to go back and see how this started? How his life changed? How he was used as a stand in both in romance and in the movie? How he fell for a man who loved someone he could be mistaken for because he really loved the other man, ugh.
It's Joe giving his virginity to Ming because he wants to and Ming warning him to find someone better but Ming so toxic and so desperate to replace Tong with someone, anyone, anything, because Tong loves someone else and just... oh, man.
It's gonna be a ride. Joe's new life is also his old life but now he has a mother after he lost his and now he has a chance at something he didn't have, at a new life, but does he still love Ming and does Ming love him even after this rebirth? What does it all mean in the end? How many stories are we going to get?
I didn't even watch the preview for this one but I'm glad to be here.
