also like my school literally doesn’t report covid cases on campus for like almost 2 weeks. they haven’t updated the dashboard since May 12 and in that time SO many ppl i know on campus have gotten it. so im sure cases are very high and i do not fucking trust then to keep us all safe. they don’t fucking care <- is applying to work for them full time 💀 but still
#purrs#this person who graduated from here in December and is disabled became a covid activist and started this whole organization about keeping c#campuses covid safe and im just crying looking at what they did because of how horribly they were treated and how i fucking backed down when#they were like we already are doing the maximum we can do ♥️ like no you FUCKING aren’t. you are denying reality. you are pretending like#covid is over and it isn’t. and im not even disabled or immunocompromised like there are students who are who won’t be able to go to this an#and it doesn’t even matter because no one wants to wear masks anymore ♥️ like how fucking stupid can you be. not everyone is onay with mask#mandates being removed. not everyone can SURVIVE if mask mandates are removed. so why can’t everyone just endure a temporary inconvenience s#so EVERYONE who worked hard for this can attend and not have to worry about risking their lives and their families lives. its fucking#horrific. like does NOBODY care anymore. are we just giving up completely. fuck them andfuck all the people who are making it hard to access#care and actively denying people who want or NEED stricter guidelines an opportunity to go. this fucking sucks and i feel so bad for that pe#person bc they got ruthlessly mocked on Twitter and had to go thru all this legal bullshit with the admin and they did NOTHI NG and it’s lik#like i don’t even know you h it good for you for taking how painful that was and trying to help people navigate it. and i don’t know what to#do with any of this except not go but also im in pain and not thinking clearly but this is fucking nightmarish. like you want to talk#draconian how about the choices being miss your graduation or get a disease that could lead to chronic illness and death. lol#ask to tag

Won’t be reblogging the video because it’s better for my health to pretend actors aren’t real, but that br*dgew*ter cast video that was just posted where the first words out of Mx. Collins mouth are “when I was on supernatural” makes me think we should be crowdfunding for therapy for him and every other actor who appeared on the CW’s Supernatural

we all know having 1 mental illness makes you so likely to have like 15 other mental illnesses, but today i have realized it’s the same with physical illness! you get one, you get them all or you’re constantly at risk for getting them all! yayyy!!
#vent post#negative#ok to reblog#if anybody wants to reblog just to yell in solidarity either for the mental illness or physical illness i am so ok with that#hi! i am chronically ill. i have cystic fibrosis. the basic rundown explanation for that is#my nose pancreas and lungs are all kinda fucked up#if there were any merciful god in the world that would be the end of it cause that already sucks#but i'm also at risk for bone disease teeth problems diabetes higher risk of mental illness (i already have like 4-5 of those so yeah)#heart problems other lung problems and i think like kidney bladder problems has been brought up before that's fun#and the meds i'm on put at me at risk for cataracts#i've been lucky with most of these but my luck is gonna run out at some point :)#fully expecting to eventually end up having diabetes too cause now my dad has it.#and apparently my back is ever so slightly not curved right but that hasn't caused issues. Yet.#or maybe it has and we just don't know it. cause my back got so fucked up i needed surgery a couple years ago. we still don't know how#it's also easier for me to get sick so you can imagine i've been having a GREAT time during this pandemic#WHY does my BODY have so many PROBLEMS and POTENTIAL PROBLEMS#not looking forward to getting old. my body is already pretty fucked what's it gonna be like when normal people's bodies get fucked#made this post cause i've potentially got more bone problems who knows lmao#also if anybody's wondering i'm doing fine i'm on really good meds and i got the covid vaccine a while ago#it's just frustrating as ffffuck#5/10

i.... i’m gonna rant in the tags for a sec
#in the past two minutes i have been exposed to two (2) jokes about fluff giving people diabetes#and i just want to say that sort of language is actually.... really hard to hear as a type one diabetic.#there are a lot of misconceptions out there about diabetes and what it means to be diabetic and the types of people who are diabetic#and to me saying things like ‘you’re gonna need insulin for this one’ or ‘looking at this gave me diabetes’ feels really shitty#like i don’t want to necessarily call it ableism but. diabetes is a disability. type one diabetes is a chronic illness. there is no cure.#and hearing people casually through out things like that just. hurts. like it really really fucking sucks to have this illness.#my entire life is dictated by this disease. i pick clothes according to if they can accommodate the fact that i’m a pump wearer.#there’s not a single thing i can eat without considering my bloodsugar and carbs and how it will affect my bloodsugar.#it is ridiculously expensive. and countless people die because they can’t afford or get access to insulin. or they ration it.#or get it illegally. or use insulin designed for other animals. it’s a serious thing that is actually very dangerous if you’re not careful#or are not fortunate enough to get the proper care and equipment and support that you need#and so to see people making light of that just.... it’s always grated at me and now seeing it twice in a few minutes..... come on#like i don’t want to call it ableism but it.... kind of is. and that’s pretty shitty#idk if this is just me being sensitive. and i’m not trying to offend anyone which is why this is in the tags#but guys.... come on. why do you have to say things like that?????? is it so hard to find some other way?????????#there’s a lot of typos in here and i’m sure some of it doesn’t make sense but honestly........ i don’t really care. i am just tired of it#idk man.#uhhhh i guess#zukosadragon ace vents#diabetic on main

This is going to sound really f-ing stupid but you gotta trust me on this. Tinnitus, my nemesis, I have defeated thee. When you have an episode, loosely cover your ears with your palms so your fingertips kinda overlap at the back of your head/nape area. Then rhythmically tap your fingers, like you're patting your nape. Left, right, left, right, I count to twenty so its 10 taps from each hand. Makes a funny noise, make sure you keep your ears covered, count up to 40 (20 per hand) if needed. My episodes are mild-moderate but they also never survive past when I count to like 14. It sounds stupid. It looks stupid. But living with ringing in my ears sucks more than looking stupid for thirty seconds. It Always works for me and I hope it can help you.
I also have severe ear problems (I say while laying in the dark in my misery cuddle puddle of blankets with a heating pad wrapped around my whole head) but apparently mine are partly related to me having a deviated septum causing bad anatomy? I get fluid buildup behind my eardrum and because of the DS, my ear canals have like a nearly 90 degree turn or some shit so wax build up is the devil. Amazon has ear wax pick kits but get an osteoscope and try to have someone you trust do it since its hard to see Unless you can afford one of the Bluetooth osteoscopes that show the image on your phone. I hope at least a little of this might be new and/or helpful to you and know that I feel your pain and have a great deal of empathy. Ear pain sucks D.
Final tip I have that I just thought of! In ear/over ear headphones trap humidity and heat and in ear push wax into deeper your ears! They're pricey but look at a pair of aftershockz headphones. Bone conducting headphones. Amazing sound quality (audiophile approved) AND you wouldn't BELIEVE the improvement in my ear pain levels after I dropped my over ear and in ears for them. Plus, they all come with like a year warranty and you can purchase them through Sams club for cheaper if you have one nearby. Sorry for the long ask. I just hate knowing that other people suffer from the same or similar pain I'm in right now as I'm typing this. It just...it really sucks, man. I wish you luck.
no oh my god this is super helpful!!!! ive def had problems historically with cleaning my ears so i think itd be good to invest in an osteoscope and like gross ears def doesnt help but i have more problems than just that so the tapping trick is super helpful... im also a chronic headphone user and im sure my my earbuds (that dont have those like squishy things on the end, i lost them all) make it worse lollll
literally you are a godsend thank you so much my stepmom is a nurse but her help is just yelling at me to shut up lol
#connor talks#answered asks#anon chats#i love asks bro! every time i see the little dot my brain lights up#long ones that are helpful are even better im gonna save this for later#also i may just be doing it wrong (im gonna look up a video bc i feel like ive seen one before)#but my hands are too small to overlap behind my head while also covering my ears 😳#my stepmom makes me feel like suchhh a hypochondriac i try to update her on whats wrong and shes like UGHHH#shes one of those mean white girls that became a nurse so#like ofc i shouldnt be scaring myself by looking at webmd but every time theres actually been something wrong#i had to FIGHT just to get looked at#with the adhd she called me while i was in school and tore me a new one for like an hour#then after i was diagnosed and on my meds for a while she was like oh we always knew :)#the cysts i have i also had to fight for which like dude thats scary!#theres a history of breast cancer in my family (particularly aggressive breast cancer too)#and like hell im gonna die young from boobie disease when i dont want them in the first place#but like yeah there WAS something on the ultrasound. im not crazeee#also someone who must not be named had a super rare chronic illness as a child and she was like the kids lying#the kid had something so specific it was like. only treatable in two places in the country#which yay reasons why i have trauma around philly that ive been sneaking into my writing-#anywayssssssssssss i talk a lot. hehee#long post

so that person i just reblogged the “chonky pet” post from i blocked lol
i was scrolling through and noticed a weird amount of low-key-high-key fatphobic posts and they were all from the same person! most of them were basically saying fat can’t possibly be healthy, which is just objectively not true, and basically assumed that they knew every fat person’s medical history and... yeah. not great.
I’m not encouraging any kind of hate or harassment to them, this just weirded me out and it’s the first time in my 2+ years on tumblr that I’ve blocked anyone so I just felt like I needed to get my reasoning off my chest for my own conscience.
So this is your daily reminder that you know your body better than random people on the internet, and you are allowed to have your own opinions separate from a doctor. Not every doctor is right! You know when you feel healthy and it’s your life to live, not anyone else’s!
#fatphobia#why people feel that they know anyone's health better than they do is insane#(im going to share a food/nutrition related story so if that's triggering for you dont read the rest of my tags!)#i have had a genetic chronic lung/digestive disease and was diagnosed at 4 months#lots of people with this disease struggle to gain weight#i have such unhealthy eating habits bc for years all my doctors cared about was me getting enough food#it didn't matter how i just needed to gain and retain weight#and i love my doctors. i've had the same ones all my life and they have done the best they can#people with cystic fibrosis only recently started living past middle age#which is amazing!#but because of the diet so many doctors encouraged#lots of us have diabetes#and since getting on my new drug (on top of being a teenager) i've started to actually gain weight as any other person would on my diet#if i didn't have my parents and doctors to encourage me to fix my diet i would not be as thin as i am#(dont misunderstand me: thin is not inherently better than fat. thin is just my healthy just as different levels of fat are for others)#my point is sometimes medical professionals are the reason you are ''unhealthy''#they try but no matter what we don't understand the human body perfectly#what most people think is healthy is just weird beauty standards#health comes in all shapes and sizes#my thoughts may be kind of scattered and for that i apologize; tags are not very sortable lmao#but yeah just don't be a dick and assume you know everyone's medical history.#even if they are unhealthy it's none of your damn business. that's for them to deal with however they want if at all.#if you disagree please just leave#also i stand by the pet post#domesticated animals are 100% the owner's responsibility to keep healthy

Pregnancy is complicated, even the most healthy of pregnancies can have irreversible effects on the mother's body.
Hormonal changes aren't the half of it; hemorrhoids, incontinence, chronic pain, heart disease, diabetes, and strokes are all potential lifelong risks from being pregnant.
It's really not as cut and dry as "there is a living being inside of you and killing it is murder". A fetus is not able to survive without the mother's body. Viability is not really the same as having its own bodily autonomy; this pre-infant being had to encroach on the autonomy of another human being and potentially impose lifelong health hazards before it's able to survive on its own.
Like I think abortion is a serious topic. I don't think anyone should go into unprotected sex with the idea that it's ok, just get an abortion if need be. But I don't think it's my fucking job to police why people do or do not get abortions. I may think their attitude or reasoning is fucked up but I will fight for their ability to have that choice.
If someone would die without having your kidney transplanted into their body, you're still given the opportunity to say no. Should it be enforced by the government to extract living people's organs for the sake of potentially saving someone else's life, whether or not they consent?

Basically my issues can be handled by getting therapy and building a support system of people around me, both of which I cannot do. I have no support system because the only person I have in my life is my partner, and he doesn't have a great grasp on anything related to emotions so he isn't often much help. My family is awful and I want nothing to do with them so I can't count on them at all. I can't make any friends up here because it's a tiny community and I didn't grow up here so people are very hesitant to let me in. The only mental health resources here are counsellors that I haven't had great experiences with. I might try a new counsellor just to give it a try, but tbh I'm not holding my breath. The type of depression I apparently have cannot be treated with medication. Basically my shitty life has to improve and that would improve my depressive issues. Which isn't going to happen.
I was really hoping for more. Anything more that would actually be treatable. I'm still in this alone. I'm still going to have to struggle to get important daily tasks done. I don't have any energy literally ever. I'm tired all the time. I have no motivation to do anything I even enjoy, only on very rare occasions will I get a burst of energy to do something fun, like all the sewing I did the other day. I don't even have the motivation or energy to do anything with my dog and I feel so guilty for it. There are so many things I want to do, but I can't do them and I'm so frustrated and upset. It's just a giant lose-lose situation. This fucking sucks.

Hey yknow that madpunk/madpride and neuropunk already exist for nds right? Like. They're right there!!
I know! And that's great for people who like those terms! They can have those terms TOO, because solidarity movements aren't Highlanders! There can be more than one! You can belong to more than one!
But, and this is very important, so I need you to listen to me very carefully, because I've only been saying it repeatedly for weeks:
THERE IS NO MEANINGFUL AND SINGULAR SPLIT BETWEEN DISABILITIES OF THE BRAIN AND DISABILITIES OF ALL OTHER ORGANS.
The phrase "able-bodied ND" is - when applied in any other fashion except as a person referring to themself - ableist and wrong.
Telling someone "this disability isn't a disability of your physical body but a disability of your mind, which is a totally different thing, not part of your body at all, and therefore you must be excluded from this solidarity movement" is a rancid-ass take which relies on ableist foundations! So like, congrats on your ingrained ableism, I guess. Congrats double on trying to enforce ableist standards on people who you don't know and whose struggles you don't know shit about.
And I've seen people rephrase my points as if I'm trying to "include psych disabilities with physical effects."
No. That's not what I'm saying or have ever said. I've tried to explain the interconnected nature of body and brain in small words but since that's not getting through:
All disabilities are physical disabilities, you fucking cabbages.
yes. All of them.
The lie that this isn't true is what leads to division and medical abuse and if you perpetuate it that's on you.
but Spider, do you mean bipolar people can be cripplepunk? Do you mean autistic people can join a punk movement for people with physical disabilities? Do you mean people with anxiety? What about--
Tumblr media
There is no fucking point in making an umbrella as big as "all physical disabilities" if y'all are going to then try to pick and choose which disabilities of the human body count.
If y'all wanna make "only disabilities that affect movement" you're going to include disabilities of the brain. If you wanna make "only disabilities that require physical assistance items," guess what! BRAIN DISABILITIES WILL BE IN THAT TOO.
But that's not what cripplepunk is or ever has been! It's been a big fucking tent. It's never been that restrictive.
So, yeah. I'm a cripplepunk, I've been one for years, and all disabled people are welcome to stand in solidarity with me, because building radical inclusion is fucking punk, not this snotty passive-aggressive "weh weh well you know this other term is right there."
I KNOW. THAT'S GREAT FOR PEOPLE WHO WANT TO USE IT. I DON'T, AND WHAT'S MORE, I WELCOME ALL CRIPPLES TO THE TENT. You don't have to belong to just one thing.
Oh and uhh...
Tumblr media
I'm just curious. Why did you feel it necessary to send this to me? Even by the rancid-ass standards y'all use to play "who's in and who's out," I'm a cripple. I have a damaged spinal cord, chronic pain from the scars on said spinal cord where they cut a fucking tumor out, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, migraines, celiac disease, and ME/CFS, and that's just what I choose to disclose. I use mobility aids! I have a placard bc of my movement disabilities! Still trying to get reconstructive surgery on my ankles and knees! I fit your very wrong and too-restrictive standards!
Oh, and on top of that, I am also autistic and also have generalized anxiety disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder stemming from medical abuse.
So, you know, I'm not sure why you'd send this sort of message to me, implying - as so many people in this conversation have - that I'm at best a cripplepunk "ally," that I'm not part of the "right" kind of disabilities to be "included." It's so weird that these messages only started happening when I disagreed with other cripplepunks about how inclusive cripplepunk is or should be. It's so strange that these things only seem to be coming up now.
Almost like this isn't about "defending a community" or anything like that, but about playing high school lunch tables about who the cool kids are, and when someone disagrees, well...
Tumblr media
Uhoh. Guess it's time to pretend like that person never belonged!
There is nothing less punk than this passive-aggressive shit.

Why Do We Sleep? Science May Have Finally Figured It Out
Two centuries ago, the Scottish physician Robert Macnish theorized that the purpose of sleep was to “renovate the mind” by offering it a period of deep repose.
The idea that sleep helps rejuvenate a weary brain had been around long before Macnish’s time. But as recently as 20 years ago, sleep scientists still readily admitted that they did not understand the fundamental purpose of sleep.
For decades, we’d recognized that some important biological processes take place during sleep, and that a lot goes wrong with us when we don’t get our ZZZs. But none of this explained just why human beings — and pretty much every other type of beast, bird, or bug on Earth—spends such a large portion of their lives in slumber.
The discovery of a hidden brain system may finally provide the answer.
The metabolic and cellular processes that keep you alive are not perfectly efficient. They produce waste. Fortunately, your body is equipped with a kind of waste management system. It’s called the lymphatic system, and its network of fluids, nodes, vessels, and organs collects and removes all the cellular junk — as well as the bacteria, proteins, and any other unwanted detritus — that builds up inside of you.
We’ve known about the lymphatic system since the late 1700s. But until very recently, experts had failed to locate an equivalent system in the human brain.
That changed a decade ago when a group of researchers, based mainly at the University of Rochester Medical Center in Rochester, New York, discovered a previously unknown “clearing system” in the brain. They called it the glymphatic system, and they showed how it helped collect cellular waste and flush it out of the central nervous system.
“The longer we’re awake, the more cellular byproducts build up in the brain,” says Jeanne Duffy, PhD, a neuroscientist and sleep researcher at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. “The glymphatic system washes these cellular byproducts out so they’re not causing damage to brain cells.”
According to a 2020 paper in the journal Trends in Neurosciences, the glymphatic system had gone undiscovered for so long because the arterial channels it uses to transport fluid and waste are only visible inside living brain tissue. It took high-resolution images, taken inside the brains of living mice, to reveal the existence of these channels.
“Another discovery, and arguably an equally important one, is that glymphatic clearance is primarily active during sleep,” wrote the authors of that Trends in Neurosciences paper.
As Duffy said, being awake causes an accumulation of cellular byproducts and other neurological junk. The purpose of sleep, it seems, is to give your brain’s glymphatic system an opportunity to get rid of that junk. “The universal biological need for sleep across multiple species may, at least in part, reflect the need for glymphatic clearance,” the Trends authors wrote.
In support of this hypothesis, recent studies have found that the glymphatic system clears amyloid beta peptides from the brain. The buildup of amyloid beta is thought to be a major driver of Alzheimer’s disease, which is one of a handful of neurodegenerative conditions associated with poor sleep.
Some researchers have also theorized that improper waste clearance may explain the connection between poor sleep and chronic migraine headaches — as well as sleep’s ability to relieve migraines.
All this work has led some experts to call the glymphatic system the “missing link” between impaired sleep and neurological disorder. Its discovery may pave the way for new and more effective remedies for these conditions.
While groundbreaking, the revelation of the glymphatic system doesn’t change what we already knew: Sleep is important.
Pretty much everything that can go wrong with you is either more likely to happen or made worse by insufficient sleep. Still, the recognition that harmful garbage is building up in the brain may motivate some to make sleep a bigger priority.
Asked if the old eight-hour rule is accurate, Duffy says that — by and large — the answer is yes. While some people can function all right after getting just five or six hours, their health will suffer for it.
“There seems to be a huge difference in how much sleep loss people can tolerate, rather than being a huge difference in how much sleep people need,” she says. If you tend to sleep more on weekends or holidays, that’s a sign you’re probably not getting enough sleep, she adds.
The time you spend in bed may seem like time wasted. But it’s clearer than ever that important and health-sustaining work is going on in your brain and body while you get your shut-eye.

Changing our perception of life // REVISION :
We are born in the world to control the reality we live in and thrive in whatever way we want. My worldly circumstances and experiences are a reflection of my inner self. I can change and improvise whatever I want and in whichever way I want in a blink of an eye. All of us are the gods of our lives and we deserve to live it as per our desires and liking.
Life :
‘you’ve to wait to bear fruits of your hard work’ NO. LIES. I can get what I want instantly.
‘Life is tough’ NO. It’s as easy as you want it to be. You’re the god of your reality.
‘Life is unpredictable’ NO. You’re the creator.
‘You need to work hard to be successful’ NO, the only work I need to do is subconscious and I am a master at commanding my subconscious to work in my favour.
‘You can’t change your past’ YES I CAN. I revised it and I healed myself.
‘You don’t choose what happens to you’ NO. I clearly do. I choose everything and how it should happen to me.
Life is meant to be easy, joyous and exciting.
Anything and everything else you’re told is a limiting belief and has no power unless you give it. Self concept is the KEY.
Money:
‘it’s difficult to make money, you’ve to work really hard’ NO. Making money is easy. Money is my best friend and it comes to me all the time from everywhere even without trying.
‘You’ve to work for money’ NO. I can attract money from any source and just relax.
‘Financial security is very important’ YES AND IM ALWAYS FINANCIALLY SECURE BECAUSE I SAID DO.
You can attract free stuff and being spoiled just by working on self concept. LIFE IS SO SO EASY AND FUN.
Health and Appearance:
‘you can’t change your body type or features it’s genetic’ NO. I can change it however I want. It’s very much possible and I do it all the time. We look a certain way because we were told about it all the time. Genetics exist, ofc, But I can change it.
‘You need to workout to lose/gain weight or tone your body’ NO. I will command my subconscious and the job will be done instantly. I wouldn’t have to lift a finger.
‘You need to eat clean to have clear skin and a healthy body’ NO. I can eat and drink anything as per my choice and be happy and healthy. I choose how my body reacts to certain foods and drinks and I can always control that.
‘You can’t change certain features such as eye colour or height’ YES I CAN. And I have. I can change it as per my wishes all the time.
‘You can’t get rid of xyz disease, it’s chronic and untreatable’ NO. I will cure myself. My subconscious is the best doctor. I’m healthy.
Knowing the law has given me a new found hope to be alive and I will not settle for less.
Friendships and relationships:
‘No relationships last long, priorities change’
NO. I can have a relationship last as long as I want. I have the power to flourish in all my personal relationships and be loved by everyone all the time.
‘It’s difficult to find like minded friends or a perfect SP’ NO. I ALWAYS attract like minded people and I have the SP/‘s I want. They come to me with all their love and affection because deserve it all. Why? BECAUSE THIS IS MY REALITY. And ofc, I’m aware of the things I deserve and I attract it all the time.
‘I have trust issues/abandonment issues etc’
ITS A LIMITING BELIEF. And it will be your reality for as long as you believe in it. Change this thought, reject it and replace it with better ones and everything will fall into place.
‘They will find someone better than me’ IS ANYONE BETTER THAN GOD ITSELF? No. You’re the best of your reality. You’re the most prioritised person ever. You’re powerful.
Experiences/talents/karma:
You can control all three. Wanna be a singer? Manifest the voice you like CAUSE YOU CAN.
Want that job? ITS YOURS RIGHT AWAY. You chose it and commanded your subconscious, now there’s no way anyone else can have it.
Visualise whatever experience you wanna have and bring it into life, because you’ve the power to do that. Karma does not exist. Evil eye does not exit. UNLESS YOU GIVE IT THE POWER TO EXIST. Affirm that you’re secure and protected and you WILL BE secure and protected.
You can have any skill you want without practising or being born with it.
You’re a limitless being. You can be anything you want and ITS NOT AS DIFFICULT AS YOU WERE TOLD REPEATEDLY growing up.

GROUNDING ☀️
Howdy! I’m back with another installment in my protection series!! Today I’m gonna be talking about something a little bit less magickal and more mundane: Grounding!
What Is Grounding?
A quick google search will bring you to a plethora of pages talking about the phenomenon known as...grounding. Be wary that some of these sources will talk about autoimmune diseases and other chronic illnesses as if they can be cured by grounding- that is NOT the case!
Grounding is talked about in two capacities: as a practice that can help you pull away from flashbacks, unwanted memories, and negative or challenging emotions..or the other way grounding is mentioned in modern day witchy settings is as: a therapeutic technique that involves doing activities that “ground” or electrically reconnect you to the earth.
I honestly think these are one in the same, but I think of grounding as “centering” myself to protect myself from any malicious energy that may intend to harm me, and as a way to dispel any unwanted energy.
How To Ground Yourself
Put your hands in water: focus on the temperature, the feeling of the water, etc.
Breathing exercises: By bringing focus to your breath, you can help calm and center yourself. I personally favor an app called “Breathwrk” that has guided breathing exercises.
Take a short walk: You may not always be able to take a break to walk, but this is an amazing way to get in touch with the earth and your surroundings while also giving yourself a little “reset” to get back to a healthy mindset.
Hold ice: Like with the water technique, holding an ice cube and letting it melt in your hand gives you a sensory focusing tool to bring your mind back to the present
Light a candle: Or something to that effect. If you put on your favorite diffuser scent, or light your favorite candle, you can focus on the scent and draw your attention to the scent that fills the room
Play a “challenging” game: I think this one may just be me but I love to do the daily mini cross word, or a similar game like solitare, when I’m feeling overwhelmed. It brings me back to the moment and gives me a second to reset while stimulating my brain
Think in categories: Choose one or two broad categories, such as “musical instruments,” “ice cream flavors,” “mammals,” or “baseball teams.” Take a minute or two to mentally list as many things from each category as you can.
List your favorites: Listing is something I thoroughly enjoy, and by listing your favorite ______ (insert category) you are bringing your mind into a thankful/uplifting headspace
Close your eyes and focus on your energy. Get it under control so that it's manageable—and then, using your hands, push it into the ground, a bucket of water, a tree, or some other object that can absorb it.
Why Do We Ground?
Grounding is useful in multiple mundane situations, like when you’re stressed, overwhelmed, etc. But we use grounding in magickal situations...especially surrounding energy work. For example: If you fail to center yourself properly before you preform a spell, ritual, or something that is highly demanding of your energy, you can feel kind of “amped up” or jittery afterwards. When you preform any sort of magick, you can get a rush of energy afterwards if you didn’t properly center yourself.
