I've seen alot of conflicting definitions on nonverbal around Tumblr so I've made an informal survey about it!! Why you might ask, because linguists is a hyperfixation of mine so I wanted to see who and why people use the definitions they do.
This survey will be open until after 11pm BST on September 24 2022 (12 days from posting this) upon which I'll sort the data all out. I'd also greatly appreciate if you could share the link and/or this post around for a greater sample size!!

Things I don't get-
1) The notion that Mike is meant to be ugly (the show itself only goes as far as to make the frogface comment. The pilot and pitch both describe him as a cute kid. He gets mistaken for Nancy. His mom and sisters are good-looking, and his father is average at worst. Like this isn't about not meeting the beauty standard of the 80s because none of the party do. They're all losers who don't fit the macho masculine man vibe - yes, that includes Will - so that instance that Mike is considered ugly and that anyone who considers him good-looking is crazy or incorrect is a bit...).
2) The great name debate for El. Eleven isn't like an evil name. The reason characters call her is because El doesn't express dissatisfaction over it. Jane isn't an evil name either, but it's significantly less connected to El. Mike explains it when he gives her the name. Eleven is to El, what Michael is to Mike. It's just a nickname, so anyone calling her by her number in the show isn't out to get her or seeing her as less than unless she says she's uncomfortable with it and they continue.
3) The wave of people being like actually x character doesn't look like their actor. How does this even work with a visual medium? Isn't that what actors are for, to give life to the characters they're playing.
4) This is byler-specific- the anti-au and anti-ooc thing. This is why there's such a lack of AUs. People are so scared of harrassment that they opt not to write and explore the characters through their own perspective. It sucks.

What if the second movie opens directly where the first left off: by following the brothers wrapping down the pipe and beginning a day of plumbing work together (kinda like how Muppets Most Wanted literally takes place a few seconds after the 2011 Muppets movie)
Seems like a lot of movies are doing that trope nowadays...
I would prefer there to be at least a month time skip; only because I like to get the sense that there has been some kind of settling and growth with the characters.

Hehe, Light art! (And my first Canon character in one of these posts???)
Lucio is a horrid lil man/goat, but he is far too fun to draw, so here we are! (Version w/o text below the cut)
Tumblr media
Once again I did the thing where I said I wouldn't complicate things, then proceeded to do a full background smh. But! I like this version a lot more lmao-
I love drawing Goat Lucio a lil too much, and idk, it was just soothing working on his portion of this. (Light, on the other hand, made be want to explode lmao-)
Lore Dump rq (for context):
Light (as pictured) used to have a connection to a Forest Heart. As a person who was trying to help cure the plague (Potion Expert), the magic in their heart was p potent, and like in Muriel's route, Lucio would probably seek out Light's heart since it was strong and magic-filled.
Though, I like to think that between Light's precautions and their natural charm they just kinda, evade Lucio. Maybe even get him on their good side in certain loops. One factors common though: Even when he's intangible, the only one who can kill Light is *him*, and usually just appearing will spook off just about anyone/thing.
Anywho, I try to keep my Light content to myself, but this one just wouldn't get out of my head and it was just really really nice to work on ^^ If ya wanna see more I... do post Arcana art every once in a while, but it's mostly my oc so be forewarned.

Mistborn – The Final Empire
Kalessin reads cosmere
Some (not entirely) random thoughts
The other day, some friends on @athingofvikings' Discord encouraged me to explore my questions on why the spikes in a Steel Inquisitor's skull aren't bronze, when that's the metal of Seekers, and if you could burn any Allomantic metal inside your body, not just those in your stomach.
Here's what I arrived at:
If the metal only needs to be inside your body, not specifically in your stomach, the metal spikes not being bronze imply that Inquisitors can burn more than one metal. Because why else would they have them?
Spikes that massive would give them a reserve of metal to burn that doesn't need replenishing for... years, probably? Which would give them a huge advantage against ordinary Allomancers.
It also makes me wonder whether they have more than one Allomantic metal in those spikes (maybe it's just the protruding parts that are silvery?). If so, that might explain why they're said to be virtually invincible warriors, since it might give them access to all the Allomantic powers all the time.
Also, if it's true Steel Inquisitors can burn more metals than just bronze, then if Kelsier is right (that you're born with either the ability to burn only one metal, or all), that would make them Mistborn. On the other hand, if Kelsier is wrong (which I was later told he is about this), they have somehow acquired, or been given, the ability to burn more metals (which begs the question how?).
As for the question on how they're alive, would constantly burning pewter make it possible to survive having those spikes through your skull?
All of these thoughts are massive RAFO's, I know, but I needed to get them out. 😉

Anyway, Nottober starts today for me. Nottober is basically the October drawing challenge thing (like Inktober) but in February because I forgot about it in October but still really wanted to do it. I'd not been on my meds long in October and I didn't feel prepared and stuff, so fuck it I'll pick a different month and do it then! It was gonna be January but um. I started the year with no meds at all so I really wasn't in the best position for that.
Anyway, I'm gonna be making some stuff this month! I'm gonna make my own list of like... Extra prompts in case there isn't a good one on any of the lists for the day, so if anyone wants to contribute some random, SB/Ruin words for it, feel free to send them my way!

How much relationship experience does the cast have?
without making another super long post, i think i got them boiled down pretty well here. no info dumping yet today lmao
let's see
vargi's relationships have always been those of convenience, securing alliances and all that. sure, the physical aspect of it works great, but romantically he's completely inexperienced.
when it comes to purely sexual relationships, broki's the most knowledgeable about those, but romance? never saw the need for it and being tied down sounds like a bore.
svala is a priestess, so it's forbidden for her to be in a relationship, or get married. she knows a lot from reading and the ceremonies, but that's as far as it goes.
with actual real and romantic relationships, randveig is the only one with experience since she was, y'know, married for a while. not anymore though, but that's a story for another day.

Before Lionblaze could argue, another shape burst through the billowing smoke to stand beside Squirrelflight. His eyes glared; his gray fur was matted together and stuck with bits of burnt leaf and twig. Confused by the smoke and flames, Hollyleaf almost thought she was seeing one of her warrior ancestors, until she recognized Ashfur.
Squirrelflight dropped the branch. “Help me push it into the fire!” she yowled.
Grabbing the branch in strong jaws, Ashfur thrust it past the wall of flame and into the ever-narrowing patch of ground where Hollyleaf and her brothers huddled. But Hollyleaf didn’t feel any sense of relief. There was a look in Ashfur’s eyes that she didn’t understand: the look of a cat who had just spotted an unexpected juicy bit of prey.
The branch made a bridge through the flames, but Ashfur stood at the other end of it, blocking the way to safety. Lionblaze nudged Jayfeather to his paws; Hollyleaf took a step toward the branch, then paused. She felt a cold weight in herbelly when she looked into Ashfur’s glittering blue eyes.
“Ashfur, get out of the way.” Squirrelflight’s voice was puzzled. “Let them get out!”
“Brambleclaw isn’t here to look after them now,” Ashfur sneered.
Hollyleaf felt her fur beginning to rise. What did Ashfur mean?
Lionblaze’s golden pelt was bristling, too. “What have you done with my father?” he howled through the flame.
Ashfur looked at him pityingly; his eyes were twin points of fire amid the burning forest. “Why would I waste my time with Brambleclaw?”
The main branch was too solid to catch fire easily, but the leaves on it had shriveled and the twigs were beginning to smoke. Hollyleaf realized that they didn’t have much time before their bridge to safety would be ablaze.
Squirrelflight staggered up to Ashfur. Hollyleaf had never seen her mother so angry. Her fur bristled with fury; she looked like a warrior of TigerClan. Yet it was obvious that the climb to the top of the cliff, followed by her struggle with the branch, had weakened her, and she was exhausted.
“Your quarrel with Brambleclaw has to stop,” she hissed. “Too many moons have passed. You have to accept that I’m Brambleclaw’s mate, not yours. You can’t keep trying to punish Brambleclaw for something that was always meant to be.”
Ashfur’s ears flicked up in surprise. “I have no quarrel with Brambleclaw.”
Hollyleaf exchanged a shocked glance with Lionblaze. “That’s not how it looks to me,” he muttered.
“I couldn’t care less about Brambleclaw,” Ashfur continued. “It’s not his fault he fell for a faithless she-cat.”
Faithless? A growl began to build in Hollyleaf ’s throat, but then she stopped and watched the cats on the other side of the blazing branches. Something ominous was taking place in front of her, and even with flame roaring around them she felt a sudden chill. She shrank closer to Lionblaze and Jayfeather, whose head was up, his sightless eyes intent, as if he could see the confrontation between his mother and Ashfur.
“I know you think I’ve never forgiven Brambleclaw for stealing you from me, but you’re wrong, and so is every cat that thinks so. My quarrel is with you, Squirrelflight.” Ashfur’s voice shook with rage. “It always has been.”
Horrified, Hollyleaf took a step back and felt her hind paws begin to slip on the edge of the cliff. Her head spun as lightning stabbed out and thunder drowned all other sounds, even the roaring fire. For a heartbeat she dangled over empty air, and she let out a strangled yowl.
Then she felt firm teeth meet in her scruff; blinking against the smoke, she realized that Lionblaze was hauling her back to safety. But there was no safety: only the hungry flames, and Ashfur blocking the end of the branch with fury in his eyes. Fiery sparks floated down on all three young cats, scorching their fur, and flames licked the underside of the branch; fear flooded afresh through Hollyleaf when she saw that it was already beginning to smolder.
Ashfur has to let us get out! But Hollyleaf couldn’t find any words to plead with him. What was happening here didn’t have anything to do with them, even if they died because of it.
“All this was moons ago.” Squirrelflight sounded puzzled. “Ashfur, I had no idea you were still upset.”
“Upset?” Ashfur echoed. “I’m not upset. You have no idea how much pain I’m in. It’s like being cut open every day, bleeding onto the stones. I can’t understand how any of you failed to see the blood. . . .”
His eyes clouded and his voice took on a wild, distant tone, as if he could see the blood spilling out of him now, sizzling on the burning ground. Terror burst through Hollyleaf and she pressed closer to her brothers. This cat was more dangerous than the storm or the fire, or the fall lurking perilously close to her hind paws.
Desperately she tried to step onto the end of the branch. At once Ashfur rounded on her, fully conscious again, his teeth bared in a snarl.
“Stay there!” Turning to face Squirrelflight but keeping one paw on the branch, he hissed, “I can’t believe you didn’t know how much you hurt me. You are the blind one, not Jayfeather. Who do you think sent Firestar the message to go down to the lake, where the fox trap was? I wanted him to die, to take your father away so you’d know the real meaning of pain.”
Hollyleaf ’s shocked gaze met Lionblaze’s. “He tried to kill Firestar?” she gasped. “He’s mad!”
Determination glittered in Lionblaze’s eyes, and he bunched his muscles for a giant leap. “I’m going to fight him.”
“No!” Hollyleaf fastened her teeth in his shoulder fur. “You can’t!” Her words were muffled now. “He’ll just push you into the fire.”
“Brambleclaw saved Firestar then,” Ashfur went on to Squirrelflight. “But he’s not here now. He’s not here—but your kits are.”
Squirrelflight’s eyes blazed. For a heartbeat Hollyleaf thought she was going to pounce on the gray warrior, but she knew that exhausted and in pain, her mother would have no chance. Squirrelflight seemed to realize it, too. She drew herself up, head high; she was trembling, but her voice was clear and brave.
“Enough, Ashfur. Your quarrel is with me. These young cats have done nothing to hurt you. Do what you like with me, but let them out of the fire.”
“You don’t understand.” Ashfur looked at her as if he was seeing her for the first time; his voice was puzzled and petulant. “This is the only way to make you feel the same pain that you caused me. You tore my heart out when you chose Brambleclaw over me. Anything I did to you would never hurt as much. But your kits . . .” He looked through the flames at Hollyleaf and her brothers, his eyes narrowing to dark blue slits. “If you watch them die, then you’ll know the pain I felt.”
The flames crackled threateningly closer; Hollyleaf felt as if the heat was about to sear her pelt into ashes. She edged backward, only to feel the edge of the hollow give way under her hind paws. The three of them were pressed tightly together, so close that if one of them lost their balance, all three would be dragged off the cliff. Hollyleaf couldn’t control the trembling that shook her whole body as her glance flickered between the cliff and the fire.
Jayfeather was crouched close to the ground, looking tinier than ever with his pelt slicked flat by the rain. Lionblaze’s claws were unsheathed, glinting as the lightning flashed out again, but the tension in his haunches didn’t come from preparing to leap at Ashfur; it came from the effort of keeping himself on the top of the cliff.
Squirrelflight raised her head, her gaze locked on Ashfur’s crazed eyes. “Kill them, then,” she meowed. “You won’t hurt me that way.”
Ashfur opened his jaws to reply, but said nothing. Hollyleaf and her brothers stared at their mother. What was Squirrelflight saying?
Squirrelflight took a step away from them, and glanced carelessly over her shoulder. Her green eyes were fiercer than Hollyleaf had ever seen them, with an expression she couldn’t read.
“If you really want to hurt me, you’ll have to find a better way than that,” Squirrelflight snarled. “They are not my kits.”

Thinking about how I would write an adult Scooby-Doo series, because I think it can be done.
The first thing I’d do is make the characters actually be adults.  Still young, but adults, in the mid to late 20s range.  Mystery Inc. is a private detective type business that they run together.  In this universe, the supernatural/ghosts/etc are real, but not necessarily common, so when they take on a case, the culprit might be a person disguised as a monster, or it might actually be a real ghost.  The stakes can be higher; sometimes a bad guy is legitimately trying to kill them.  Sometimes the mystery they’re trying to solve is a murder.  Sometimes they actually get hurt on their cases.
Fred: the core of Fred’s character should be that he’s incredibly kind.  Like, give a stranger the shirt off his back kind.  The “Fred can’t talk to potential clients because he might take a case for free and we need to eat” kind.  He’s an honest and good person and sometimes gets himself into trouble because he assumes other people are too.  While he’s not very good at reading people or noticing ulterior motives, he’s brilliant when it comes to mechanical or engineering type stuff, so he’s the one who keeps the mystery machine running, builds their gadgets, and of course, designs the traps.
Daphne: she comes from old money, and her parents absolutely despise her life choices, to the point where they haven’t officially disowned her, but they have basically cut her off, so she doesn’t actually have access to any family money.  Growing up wealthy has granted her a variety of skills, including speaking multiple languages, horseback riding, and fencing.  She’s very into fashion and jewelry (even if she can’t afford it anymore) and has extensive knowledge of both that can occasionally provide a vital clue in a case. And even though her parents have cut her off, Daphne still has a wide network of contacts she can ask for favors sometimes, because she’s personable, and people tend to like her.  Daphne is also very emotionally intelligent, and is usually the one who can spot when someone is lying to them.
Side note - I ship Fred and Daphne, so I think I would start them off as an established couple for this universe.  Dating, engaged, married, I don’t care.  They are stupidly in love, ride or die for each other.  There’s no will they, won’t they, no worries about cheating.  They are in a healthy, happy, loving relationship, and no one (not even Daphne’s disapproving parents) are going to mess that up for them.
Velma: she is the forensics nerd who sometimes gets super excited about the wrong thing at the wrong time (”He was mummified in seconds? That’s so cool!” “Velma!  His wife is standing right there!” “Oh.  Sorry.”).  She’s not purposely insensitive, she just gets laser focused on her work and forgets to filter herself sometimes.  She’s also the one who can get so fixated on solving whatever mystery they’re working on, she’s willing to bend or maybe break laws.  Is breaking and entering really so bad?  Not if it gets them answers.
Shaggy: he is still the comic relief, but he’s the comic relief by being the only person in the group that actually has common sense.  He manages the business’s finances, he’s the only one who knows how to cook, and the others tease him for being a coward sometimes, but Shaggy maintains that if a ghost with an axe is coming for you, running is the only sensible option.  He should also have a range of random knowledge that sounds useless, but sometimes saves the day (ex ventriloquism, origami, the history of spoons, etc).
Scooby: as this is a universe where supernatural creatures exist, Scooby is an ancient eldritch type being that took a shine to Shaggy when he was a kid, and took the form of a talking dog to befriend and hang out with him.  Aside from the talking dog bit and not aging, he never uses his powers in a way that anyone notices.  The audience is not told upfront that Scooby is an ancient eldritch being; it should slowly be hinted at throughout the series so the audience put it together, but the characters never realize it.  Scooby genuinely considers Shaggy to be his best friend, and cares about the rest of the gang too.
