Anakin could have a What If series by himself like
- what if Qui Gon had trained him
- what if he still turned but beat Obi Wan and didn’t get dismembered and burnt to shit
- the obvious what if he didn’t turn and was around to raise Luke and Leia
- what if he’d left the order with Ahsoka
- what if he’d turned but Ahsoka and/or Obi Wan had been able to bring him back
- what if he’d convinced Obi Wan and Padme to turn with him
- what if he’d raised Luke and Leia as Sith?

vader calling reva “youngling” to remind her of the worst night of her life to tell her he remembered her all the while and just danced her along, vader injuring and murdering innocent villagers in front of their loved ones just because he could and to show obi wan that he’s responsible for their suffering, vader preying on obi wan’s guilt by blaming him for what he had become, vader toying with obi wan during their duel just to terrorize him when he could have beaten him in a second, vader raking him over hot coals and keeping him alive just to feel the pain he felt...this series has done something i think is new and shown the casual and constant cruelty vader inflicts on people by whatever means necessary, the way he tortures people in all kinds of ways without a second thought
and to see that and remember anakin, who built droids to be his friends and loved his mom more than anything and was so excited to have a baby of his own and loved his family with his wife and thought of obi wan as a brother and a father and adored ahsoka and would have thrown himself on a grenade for any of his friends, jedi and clone alike, it hurts so bad

Why is Vader having shitty outdated prosthetics such a common trope in fandom? As far as I'm aware there's no canon backing for it.
Imagine instead, he's fitted with state of the art prosthetics, soldered directly onto the bone without care for how much it hurts. Not designed for a human body, they're much too strong, much too heavy. Powerful enough to grind bone into powder without even realizing it.
They don't register sensation, can't feel heat or cold and touch. Dexterity is an ordeal of trial and error. He can use them, move them, but there's no feeling behind it. Like a limb fallen asleep, nothing but continuous pins and needles. That is, when they aren't registering pain. The only sensation that they're actually programmed with.
Impersonal and industrial, bare metal without any artistry. He could add plating. He could add a little flare, a little life. A bit of armor, a bit of color. He could rewire them to actually feel. Could program them to preform delicate work, touch soft and sensitive enough that he could handle fragile machine parts again, would write without destroying the stylus, could touch another living thing without hurting them.
But why would he?
Why would a war machine have any need to be gentle?

A long list of Clone Wars headcanons just cause
Sometimes Ahsoka will get the zoomies and how she handles that energy is roughhousing with Anakin who's more than willing to participate
It becomes a show for the 501 because seeing the small togruta tackle the lanky ass nightmare that is Anakin Skywalker to the floor is hilarious
They are both guilty of not knowing their strength so some people (cough cough Obi-Wan cough cough) caution them against it they don’t really listen tho which has resulted in some pretty hilarious injuries
One of those injuries happened when they were playing around and Ahsoka shouldered Anakin so abruptly that he fell back on him tailbone and got the wind knocked out of him she sat by his side laughing her ass off
It took her an unreasonable amount of time to realize he was in pain and when she did she started apologizing like crazy she still gets embarrassed when people bring it up and still apologizes years later
There was another time when Ahsoka turned her back to Anakin when they were roughhousing and he pushed her so hard that she almost fell off of the landing platform they were standing on
He snatched her up by the stomach while muttering “I’m so sorry” and then he started frantically checking to make sure he didn’t seriously hurt her while Ahsoka laughed so hard she swears to this day that she pulled something
Unfortunately when the laughter stopped she did realize she managed to sprain her wrist and when Anakin found he helped her wrap it
You’d think that they’d learn from these incidents but nope they still play fight like two big dogs
Even tho Anakin and Ahsoka’s place is pretty clean it’s never really quiet there’s always gotta be some kinda noise
Sometimes it’s Ahsoka’s music playing loudly in her room, sometimes it’s a holomovie in the living room, and sometimes it’s just them bickering in the kitchen
It doesn’t matter what it is it’s never truly quiet even at night there’s a small amount of noise from Anakin’s snoring (which he denies) and Ahsoka’s purring thing (which she also denies)
As crazy as it sounds the people closest to them will admit that their noise is strangely comforting
Anakin and Ahsoka are so freaking similar that it turns heads sometimes they’ll say something the other said but they’ve never heard like “This is where the fun begins”
It’s stopped Obi-Wan in his tracks before it kinda freaks him out and worries him a little bit but it also puts a small smile on his face when the duo says the same thing at the same time
They’re also able to predict how the other will react once Ahsoka was teaching the clones tricks with her saber and they broke it they felt terrible but they were also terrified about Anakin’s reaction
Ahsoka was the only calm one in the room and explained to the group that Anakin would pretend to be pissed for about an hour but then he’d “calm down” and ask for the parted to fix it and by that time rolled around she’d already have his favorite holo prepped and food from Dex’s
They listened to her with a healthy amount of skepticism and were happily surprised to find out the next day that she was right
There was another time when Anakin and Obi-Wan decided to buy Ahsoka her favorite boba to soften the blow that she wasn’t gonna go on a mission Anakin told Obi-Wan that she’d be happy for a minute before asking what happened and he was right
When Ahsoka got closer to Anakin the clones and everyone else she showed her secret passion for acting like she doesn’t know them in public when they piss her off
It worked a couple of times and one of those times Rex almost got arrested because the officer didn’t believe that they were the commander and captain of the 501st Rex didn’t blame the dude because he couldn’t prove it without Ahsoka’s help and she refused to back him up
Ahsoka finally dropped the act when the cuffs came out but she was still kinda reluctant
She did agree to take a break from that prank and she stopped doing it entirely when Obi-Wan had to bail Anakin out of jail (she bought a lot of boba for a very long time to make up for that one)
They will reference the prank occasionally by asking each other at random points in the day “Do I know you?”
Like sometimes they’ll be out and Anakin will ask “Have we met before?” most of the time Ahsoka will answer “No actually we haven’t” (this girl is wearing his cloak he’s wearing one of her headwraps and his arm is resting on her head)
Sometimes Padme will make a big deal of taking Anakin and Ahsoka out to do something just the three of them
Whenever Padme and Anakin show the smallest form of affection towards each other Ahsoka makes a big deal about gagging Anakin makes a bigger deal of “evening it out”
Like if he kisses Padme and Ahsoka gags he’ll grab her and give her a big smooch on the forehead and then like the little shit that he is he’ll whip his lips calling her greasy
She gets him back by whipping the spit off her forehead with his robes (and also backhanding him which Padme kindly ignores)
Padme will sometimes tease her too like if she grabs Anakin’s hand then she’ll link arms with Ahsoka and make a small comment like “There now you’re even”
Sometimes Ahsoka will get them both back in the moments when they check on each other first she’ll make a big deal about saying “Well kriff me I guess” even if she doesn’t have a scratch on her
Both Anakin and Padme will make a big deal about checking her for injuries with a couple of comments like “Oh my poor little padawan you have a scratch from training last night how did you cope”
I said in my first post that Ahsoka and Anakin have a playlist and I love the idea that they have different titles for them like “Obi-Wan’s least favorite playlist” “get ready to kick seppie’s ass” “the council pissed me off again” and stuff like that
It’s all in good fun but they’ll never let anyone else see those titles because they know it’ll get a good scolding from Obi-Wan
The moment Obi-Wan knew Anakin had formed an “unnecessary attachment” wasn’t some big life-or-death moment on the battlefield
In hindsight it was a pretty funny moment that was caused by Anakin’s stupidity cause he had broken a glass earlier that day and he thought he got all the pieces so he didn’t feel it was necessary to tell Ahsoka
Next thing he knows the poor togruta is gasping in pain and when he goes to check on her she’s sitting on the kitchen floor while the mother of all glass shards is sticking out of her foot
Now you might be asking “How did Anakin miss a glass shard the size of his hand?” he honestly couldn’t give you an answer but he could tell you was in that moment he realized that he forgot to restock the med kit even though Ahsoka had reminded him about it earlier that day
All Obi-Wan got to see of this was a blur of Anakin holding his profusely bleeding padawan while yelling at the top of his lungs “Move she’s bleeding out!”
No one can really blame the man for dropping everything he was doing to chase after his former padawan and they also can’t blame him for assuming the worst like her being stabbed or shot
He didn’t know what he was expecting when he walked into the halls of healing but it wasn’t an embarrassed Anakin standing over a cackling Ahsoka as the healers scolded him for causing a scene
He makes a silent note to give Anakin a small lecture about keeping his emotions under control before checking on his giggly grand padawan

Me watching Obi-Wan: Oh thank the gods they didn't do the creepy de-aging stuff on Hayden Christensen, I'm tired of actors looking ready to eat my soul in every show and movie because Hollywood wants nostalgia without acknowledging that people age. In at least this one, small way, the evil has been defeated.
Star Wars Youtube ambushing me: The evil has returned! The evil has returned!

Fic Prompts: Star Wars Wednesday
(In which the Organas and Anakin have a tenuous alliance where Leia is concerned, particularly as it involves vexing Palpatine)
"I feel ridiculous," Vader complained.
Breha clicked her tongue scoldingly and tiptoed to readjust the silver mantle across the Sith's shoulders.
"What, do you think I chose our colors for your aesthetic? No! This is traditional!"
The queen stepped back and examined her handiwork. She pursed her lips. "Don't you give me that look."
"What look."
"Ah! You think just because you're wearing a mask I won't know I'm being sassed?" Breha folded her arms. "No. I am a mother, I have eyes everywhere you think I cannot see. Wipe that snarl off your face and put the gloves on."
Vader was fuming. The things he did for his daughter-!
"This is entirely unnecessary," he groused.
At that, Breha snorted. "For you? Maybe. But That One is not going to question your presence here if he thinks you're being humiliated."
"I will thank you by very much hating this cloth where That One can senses it," Vader retorted in the halting Alderaani Leia had been teaching him.
Breha smirked and rolled her eyes, then tiptoed to straighten the mantle again. "Better! Your pronunciation is good. Next, you learn tenses."
She sighed in frustration as the edges of the mantle caught the life support system.
"Why do you not have pulmonodes? That One couldn't "responsible" his way out of a takeout carton. Get pulmonodes!"
"Yes, pulmonodes strictly for the purpose of making it easier for you to dress me in ridiculous finery. Perhaps I shall wallow in discomfort longer if it means sparing me that."
He was less surprised than he perhaps ought to have been when Breha rapped sharply on the grill of his mask.
"You can clean that attitude up right now, Lord Vader. You know she can sense that with your freezing cold and your drama." Breha drew back to point a surprisingly menacing finger at him.
"This day is for Leia, not us. Do not ruin this for our daughter."
"I know."
And he did, really. The only reason he was here at all, conversing with the Organas as if they weren't on opposite sides of a brewing war, was because his daughter actually wanted him here for her Day of Demand. He may have questioned her judgment, but he wouldn't taint the ceremony for her.
Outside of whatever natural consequences came of tabloid holos or Darth Vader in a silver mantle and baby blue gloves.

Goddddd I want Anakin to never quite forgive Obi-Wan for that stunt. Yeah his mind is broken, yeah Obi-Wan will give him a nice cocktail of genuine remorse and expert manipulation, yeah he’s endlessly devoted to him and wants them to live happily ever after, but ohhhh he’ll never get over it… and Obi-Wan becoming aware of it years later… delicious
i have to be honest it took me at least a few hours of quiet contemplation to figure out which au this was for i was completely torn between either 'lost to a sea of troubles' or 'vowbreaker' and obviously it's vowbreaker because we were JUST talking about vowbreaker but i was like 'mind breaking could definitely vibe with knocking on the wrong door au for sure for sure'
anyway
i feel like there eventually has to be some sort of unhealthy forgiveness or moving past it, but who knows how long it takes. i feel like months after obi-wan comes back, he wakes up one night to anakin straddling him with a knife to his throat, crying, and anakin is like 'i should kill you for what you did to me'
and obi-wan is like 'i know.' and hes like 'would you at least do me the honor of killing me with your hands, darling, so i can feel your skin against mine one last time?'
and obviously anakin can't do it but it keeps happening, every few months, a wound so deep and wide obi-wan wonders if it can ever be fully patched up and what the scar would look like if it were

I’ve contemplated a lot about why Luke was the sort of person that Anakin felt inspired enough to turn his back on Sidious and the dark side for, while Padme, Obi-Wan, and Ahsoka weren’t.
While Anakin does become a hypocrite who no one was obligated to forgive after he turned dark, regardless of his tragic circumstances and compromised agency, I think Luke was the one who finally inspired him to turn back because, in spite of as “above it all” as Obi-Wan, Padme, and even Ahsoka wanted to believe they were, they still had many of the same issues Anakin developed of feeling pressured to be people pleasers to corrupt authority figures, expectations, and rules that they knew were wrong out of fear of the unknown under compromised agency, moral hypocrisy, pride, manipulative tactics, selfishness, and/or an exceedingly vengeful side in their anger that they were not willing to pull back on when they dueled him or other enemies that piss him off.
Padme, Obi-Wan, and Ahsoka loved Anakin, but they were also prideful, self-centered, and terrified people who were too afraid to admit that their methods flawed, too afraid to take a stand against the standards of these broken systems they were born into, too afraid to admit they were wrong, too afraid to take risks to do better, and too afraid to admit that they weren’t as “above it all” as they pretended to be.
Luke Skywalker being Anakin’s son is definitely one of the influencing factors that inspires him to turn back to the light. However, it’s also because Luke is self-accepting of his bad decisions, flaws, and mistakes. He’s aware that the old Jedi Order was deeply flawed, hypocritical, and misguided, in spite of their good intentions. He’s unwilling to stoop to the same level as his enemies. He won’t let himself get carried away with baiting his father into a fight when he gets angry, and start making justifications of how he’s “right” just because he has good intentions, just because he was fucked with first, just because he’s not a Sith, or just because it’s “too dangerous” to take a risk to be honest, kind, and offer one of his enemies (his father) a better opportunity when he sees that he really is also a victim of Sidious who is still struggling against his darker instincts and searching for freedom and love from family. He refuses to enable Anakin’s slave mentality and ultimately refuses to let his father believe that “Anakin Skywalker is dead.”
This isn’t saying that Anakin is an innocent, that Luke was obligated to forgive him, or that his victims didn’t have valid reasons to fear him and resent him. Of course, they did. The point is that in those little moments where he tries to reach out to Ahsoka, Padme, and Obi-Wan about being unhappy with the Jedi and keeping secrets of his marriage before going dark, backs off, says “Don’t make me destroy you,” or lets them go, they all had an opportunity to refuse to further perpetuate the cycle of abuse by acting in anger and vengeance. They could have refused to encourage his sense of compromised agency. They could have broken the cycle of system sting abuse, crime, and oppression with Anakin in those instances by being the bigger person.
Instead Padme and Obi-Wan encouraged him to continue to stay with the Jedi and/or keep his marriage secret when they knew their systems were corrupt, and knew he was becoming increasingly emotionally/mentally unstable and unhappy in ways that made him a danger to himself and those around him out of fear of the unknown by pretending that he would just get better if they told him he would when he tried to say otherwise.
Instead, Ahsoka ended up declaring that she’d “avenge her master” when he refused to join her right away and told her “Anakin Skywalker is dead because he destroyed him.”
Instead, Obi-Wan egged him on into a duel on Mustafar by using Padme as bait, and refused to back off after getting him to let go of Padme from his reckless blind rage/paranoia force choke before killing her when he thought she brought Obi-Wan to kill him and even got him to a point where he could tell Obi-Wan “Don’t make me kill you.” When Anakin cornered him again 10 years later for revenge that he clearly didn’t want as much as he had convinced himself he did because he still cared about Obi-Wan deep down, tells Obi-Wan “I destroyed Anakin Skywalker, not you,” and even gives Obi-Wan a chance to run away, Obi-Wan allows Anakin to continue to believe that Anakin is dead, convinces himself that he is, and he runs away to compartmentalize his own guilt over how he mistreated Anakin.
Instead, another ten years later, Obi-Wan more or less encourages Anakin/Vader to kill him by just standing there after confronting him in A New Hope, and saying “I’ll become more powerful than you can ever imagine.”
So the reason as to why Anakin can’t be inspired to atone or do better by Ahsoka, Padme, or Obi-Wan isn’t just because he’s a deeply flawed person. It’s because they are too, they live in denial of it, and let him live in denial of it, too.
#Padme Amidala was deeply flawed#Anakin was deeply flawed#Ahsoka was deeply flawed#obi wan was deeply flawed#and they all lived in denial of just how deeply broken and flawed they all were and kept encouraging Anakin to pretend like he was okay#sacrificing his better instincts and happiness to try to conform to these broken systems that they all knew were messed up out of fear#until he finally stopped trying to fight back and became a serious problem for their well-being out of fear of these corrupt authorities too#when he couldn’t get anyone to listen when he DID try to reach out for emotional support and escape to fight back#like in spite of telling them that ‘Anakin Skywalker is dead’ are obi-wan Ahsoka and Luke willing to let him believe that or not?#when he tells obi-wan and Luke ‘don’t make me destroy you’ hesitated to kill them or gives them a chance to reason with him or walk away#are they going to run away act defensively or stoop to his level and try to kill him when he’s hesitating and being vulnerable?#when he gives obi wan ahsoka and Luke a chance to back off in their duels as vader are they going to fight run away or try to reason?#when he tells Ahsoka revenge is not the Jedi way is she going to agree that vengeance is bad or stoop to his level?#it’s because Anakin is desperately looking for someone who is good and self-aware enough to realize that both sides are messed up#and he can feel safe just being the best version of himself rather than throwing away his moral integrity and sense of self to conform#it’s like he’s testing people he cares about to see if they will encourage him to break the cycle of toxicity in the galaxy#to realize that both the old Jedi/Republic and Sith/Empire were deeply fucked up governments and institutions#or continue to enable and perpetuate it themselves#to not stoop to his level and enable or perpetuate terrible behaviors choices or crimes ‘for good’ fear of the unknown or revenge#to these broken systems that enable and perpetuate systematic abuse of power crime and vengeance ‘for the greater good’ out of fear#pt jedi critical#anti jedi apologists#anakin skywalker#darth vader#luke skywalker#Luke was the only one who could inspire Anakin to redeem himself because he was the only one who didn’t get caught up in the cycle himself#and the only one who refused to let his father believe that ‘Anakin was dead’

Headcanon that if in only 10 years Obi-Wan seems to age, like, 2 decades it's because meeting Anakin aka Vader again was so fucking traumatizing he immediately started to grey and went from looking like dilf Ewan McGregor to a wizened old man (with all due respect to Sir Alec Guinness)

Obi-Wan really says so little to Vader after Mustafar. In their confrontations, it's Vader who is the one taunting, threatening, screaming--Vader who has more to say. Who can't let go.
Obi-Wan says only four things: "What have you become?", a broken, pained recognition of how far Anakin has fallen;
"I will do what I must," at once a reminder and reassertion of both his love for Anakin (he will do only what he must) and his opposition to him;
"Anakin. I'm sorry. I'm sorry, Anakin--for all of it," the words he has wanted to say since the last time he'd seen his brother's face. One last extended hand, begging for Anakin to take it; and
"Then my friend is truly dead. ...Goodbye, Darth." An acceptance. A resolution. A release.
It is Anakin who screams after him, just like he had done ten years before, helpless to stop Obi-Wan from once again walking away. But Obi-Wan has nothing more to say to him.

I saw a post about the “you didn’t kill Anakin Skywalker. I did” line and how with it, Anakin is putting the final nail in his own coffin and I absolutely love that interpretation (which is why this is its own post and not a reply) but this post also talked about that line freeing obi-wan from guilt or responsibility for Anakin falling
And maybe it’s comforting to think of that line that way, that Obi-wan gets some kind of absolution or forgiveness for what happened on Mustafar. It also does a great job of giving Anakin some agency in choosing to fall to the dark side and to kill that version of himself.
But I don’t think that this line gives obi-wan comfort or freedom from guilt for a moment.
Whether true or not, honest or not, I think it’s very likely he still feels complicit in the ‘murder’ of his best friend and brother in arms. I don’t know if the guilt of not knowing that all of that anger and distrust was there built up and poisoning him can ever really go away.
Obi-wan is absolved of the physical murder, hacking off Anakin’s limbs and leaving him on Mustafar but he was also there when Anakin’s real death happened, like he was standing there while he bled out not knowing Anakin was even cut.
I don’t think there’s any freedom for Obi-wan in that.
