Bail Organa is actually the greenest flag in all of Star Wars. He believes in the Republic and after it fell he founded a rebellion. He's married and took he wifes last name. He raised the daughter of his best friend as his own. On that note, his best friend is a woman in politics. He supported the Jedi during the Republic and the Empire. He probably wears Sweaters Breha bought him to Senate Meetings. I love him sm.

Thinking about how on Leia’s childhood birthdays, Alderaanian holonet channels would be broadcasting Empire Day specials all day long. Thinking about how Bail would turn it off and they would celebrate her day with an abundance of presents and desserts and Leia would feel like the happiest little princess in the galaxy, but she would always associate that day with the Imperial March.
Thinking about how on Luke’s childhood birthdays, Aunt Beru would make him a simple birthday cake and Uncle Owen would give him the day off of chores. Thinking about how Luke didn’t even know it was Empire Day until the year that Owen took him to Tosche station and someone said something about it, and how he didn’t really associate his birthday with Empire Day until Imperial presence on Tatooine began to increase.
Thinking about how on Ezra’s childhood birthdays, he had to watch the people who took his parents away marching down the Capital City streets to applause and cheers. Thinking about how the only birthdays he could remember were filled with misery and anger until he turned fifteen on the Ghost, and how even though his birthdays got happier with his new family, he always associated that day with pain and fear.
Thinking about how much their adopted families meant to each one of them on their birthdays, and how hard it must have been once those families were torn away from them.
Thinking about how much destruction and pain the Empire caused in all three of their lives, from the very day they each drew their first breaths.

the thing about Star Wars deaths is that some don’t really hit you until long after the character first died
like yeah Obi-Wan's death in the first movie is sad for sure. but it doesn't really hit you until you've seen the prequels and the Clone Wars cartoon
Alderaan blowing up is sad but it doesn't mean much until you learn about Bail and Breha
Vader dying is sad but it means so much more with the context of who Anakin was before he was Vader, which didn't happen until over 20 years after rotj

Star Wars is a dystopia, and why Lost Stars is my favorite Star Wars novel.
(Vague spoilers only) Really, I just love any Star Wars media that strongly represents the dystopia that Star Wars is. Lost Stars, Inferno Squadron, Aftermath, Fate of the Jedi, and Andor all spotlight various parts of this dystopian galaxy.
In lost stars the main characters, Ciena and Thane go from being children on a planet not yet part of the empire, to training as their planet begins to change, to being well oiled cogs in the imperial machine.
It shows very clearly the change a person must go through to be within the empire without breaking. How it starts with the compromises you make with yourself, justifying atrocities in the name of peace. Dehumanizing entire groups of people, with the help of the propaganda around you telling you the rebellion are vicious terrorists that must be destroyed at any cost.
From one angle lost stars is about a very special relationship two people have with each other even though the most turbulent of times but what I see is an incredibly well done description of the internal struggle of two imperial soldiers as the Empire grows and fights to crush the rebellion.
How can someone who is not entirely evil be complicit in the destruction of an entire planet. Of millions of innocent lives. Of cultures.
How do they become more biased, desensitized, and cold to the plight of other beings?
what comprises does it start with?
The time of the Empire was one where absolute control at any cost was valued. Alderaan was turned into rubble, to send a message to the rebellion. Jedha city, a place with incredible cultural significance, was leveled to kill the rebels, the terrorists as they were called by the empire. Mandalore was glassed. How do you justify that? Again, an armed populace, some of which joined the rebellion whom I reiterate were called terrorists in imperial propaganda.
There are so many more layers to the dystopia that Star Wars is but for now I leave you with this. For me, Star Wars as a dystopia is so captivating because it’s so familiar.
The dystopian elements of Star Wars are familiar to me.

What if after Bad Batch season 2, Bail Organa hires Commander Cody to be in charge of security on Alderaan. Leia grows up getting piggy-back rides from Cody.
In Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2, Obi returns to Alderaan and crosses paths with Cody. They have an adventure. Cody returns to his home and tells Obi to stop by for tea the next time he visits Alderaan.
Obi season 2 ends with Bail and Cody looking up into the sky and seeing the Death Star.
Someone write this fic.
