Dean Winchester x Reader
Words: 3351
Summary: It was never what he thought he would have. But now Dean doesn’t want to let go.
Notes: I was going to wait and make this a Thanksgiving special, but I thought today would be more fitting. I can’t believe Supernatural ends tonight! This show has been a part of my life for a while now and it will forever stay in my heart.  I had a really really good time writing this one. It might be one of my favorites I’ve written for Dean, if not my top pick. I hope you guys enjoy it and look forward to seeing more. Carry on.

Oh, take your time, don’t live to fast
Troubles will come and they will pass
He had slept through an alarm he didn’t remember setting. It wasn’t until he heard the creaking of the door that he stirred, reaching under his pillow for his knife. But it wasn’t there. Dean panicked as footsteps crept towards him. They were nothing more than a small pitter-patter on the wood floor, but he still prepared himself for the attack. The small creature leapt on top of him and he rolled over so he was pinning it beneath him. It giggled. It giggled?
“Daddy, Mom said she needs you in the kitchen.”
Dean leaned over to the night stand and turned on the lamp. A little green eyed girl squirmed out from underneath him and skipped out of the room.
“The hell…” Dean muttered. He opened the dresser and sure enough, his clothes sat in the drawers. He put on a T-shirt and slowly walked out of the room. The smell of bacon and coffee coaxed him to the kitchen. He couldn’t believe what he saw.
You were standing over the stove, trying to save the bacon from burning. Dean was just frozen in the doorway. Finally spotting him, you made your way over to him, which was difficult with the little boy clinging to your leg.
“Thank God you’re up. I need you to finish making breakfast.” You lifted the boy into your arms. “Eric’s got a fever and Ellie is going to wake up any second needing to be fed.” You gently laid a hand on Eric’s forehead. “I’ll call the doctor as soon as I get him to lay down. But you know how impossible that is.”
“But I’m not tired.” Eric whined.
“I know, sweetie, but you don’t want to get sicker, do you?” He pouted his lip and shook his head. “Alright, so I need you to go back to bed.” You looked back at Dean. “Can you just finish the bacon? I’ll be back to make their toast.”
Before Dean could speak, you rushed up the stairs. As if on queue, a baby started to cry from somewhere upstairs. Dean just stood in shock. What the hell was going on?
As if by second nature, he walked around the kitchen, grabbing a paper towel to let the bacon drain off the grease. It felt almost natural. He somehow knew where everything was, even though he had never been here. Or had he? His brain was fuzzy with thoughts he couldn't remember. He saw images flash in his mind. Sam graduating from Stanford. His parents celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary. You… in a wedding dress.
“Johanna Charlotte Winchester you better be ready for school or your dad’s going to come and get you!” You yelled, coming back into the kitchen, this time a wailing baby in your arms. It wasn’t until now that Dean noticed you were wearing a sheriff’s uniform. You snatched up a piece of bacon and popped it in your mouth. “Thank you.”
You bounced the baby in your arms, trying to calm her down, but she wasn’t having it. The green eyed little girl from early came bounding into the room with her backpack over one shoulder. Ellie continued to bawl.
“Can you hold her? She always stops crying when you hold her.” You handed the squirming child to him and he tried not to panic. You noticed your husband’s awkwardness. “Rough morning?” You snickered. “Here, I’ll make you some coffee.”
As the child in his arms slowly stopped her crying, more memories flooded Dean’s head. You telling him you were pregnant for the first time. Going to the emergency room for the birth of his son. Watching Johanna hold her new baby sister. They all felt like dreams, but then how was this all real?
“I’m feeling a little... off this morning.” He admitted, watching you carefully as if he were waiting for horns to sprout from your forehead. Your face fell.
“Oh god, please don’t tell me you’re sick too.” You put your hand on his forehead. “You’re picking everyone up from the airport today.”
“Everyone?” Dean’s brows furrowed curiously.
“I would go get them, but I’m at the station until five.” You sighed, moving your hand down to caress his cheek. “Besides, you’ve been dying to see your brother since the Fourth of July.”
“Uncle Sam!” Jo exclaimed excitedly.
“Sammy’s coming?” Dean asked. Finally, something familiar. Your face contorted with confusion.
“Of course he’s coming. Jessica and the kids are too. They always help prepare for tomorrow and since your parents will still be out on their cruise, we’ll need all the help we can get.”
“Tomorrow...” He spotted the calendar on the wall, but you answered first.
“Thanksgiving.” You stated. Your confusion changed to concern. “Are you sure you’re okay? Do you want me to stay home?” Jo raised her hand.
“Can I stay home too?”
“Sweetheart, it’s just one more half-day of school before break and then you’ll get to play with your cousins for the rest of the week.” Seeing you start to get stressed, Dean put a hand on your shoulder.
“You go to work. I’m fine.” He assured you. “I’ll hold down the fort and I’ll pick up Sam at- what time again?”
“3:00.” You pressed a kiss to his cheek and smiled. “I know you worked extra last week so you could have the garage closed for Thanksgiving, but I think the fumes might have gone to your head.” You grabbed the keys off the counter. “Oh, and I’ll be taking Baby to work since you’ll need the van to fit everyone.” His look of displeasure made you laugh. “I know, I know, but you’ll have to suck it up for today unless you think the four-year-old can babysit.”
You kiss Ellie on the forehead before giving Dean a quick, but passionate kiss on the lips. You held out your hand for your daughter to take.
“Alright, partner, let’s go.”
The two of you leave and Dean looks down at the baby in his arms. Was this really happening?

Boy don’t you worry, you’ll find yourself
Follow your heart and nothing else
If he was trapped by a djinn, he would have remembered fighting it. This was something else. The more time he spent in the house, the more this world felt real and his hunting life felt like dreams. Maybe… maybe this was real.
He remembered everything now. He had met you in a bar on New Years Eve. You hit it off talking about cars and classic rock. He proposed about two years later outside that same bar during the first snow of the season. You always said the first snow was the best one. You got married and a couple months later found out you were pregnant with Jo. Johanna Charlotte Winchester was born on April 3, 2007. She was seven. Three years later, Eric Samuel was born on November 29th. He was four. Lastly, Ellen Sandra was born six months ago tomorrow on May 27, 2014.
Sammy had a family of his own. He married Jessica right out of law school and the two had two boys; Josh, 8, and Michael, 6. Their families stayed close, even though Sam was in California and Dean in Kansas. They were happy.
If this wasn’t real, how could he remember all that?
3:00 rolled around and Eric’s fever had gone down. He called you to make sure it would be okay to take him along to the airport. You told him that as long as he was feeling okay, it should be fine. The doctor said it sounded like the heat in his room was too high. Dean buckled Eric into his carseat and Ellie in her carrier. While Johanna almost looked like a mini-girl version of him, Eric looked like you. His eyes were yours, along with his hair color and his nose. Ellie looked like a fair mix of both.
Jessica was the first one to greet him since Sam was busy carrying the boys’ bags. He hugged her tight and couldn’t stop beaming.
“It’s so good to see you guys.” He smiled and she gave him a sunny grin in return.
“I know Sam’s been eager to see you and the family for a long time. Of course, I’m only here for the food.” She teased and he pulled her into another hug.
“I can’t believe this.” Dean sighed happily. Sam and Jessica. Him and you. One big happy family.
“Do I get a hug, or are just going to hog my wife?” Sam snarked, setting down the bags as Dean nearly tackled him. Sam laughed, struggling to breathe in his brother’s crushing hug. “I missed you too, Dean.”
“Uncle Sam!” Eric cheered, clinging to Sam’s leg.
“Hey buddy.” Sam smiled, lifting his nephew into his arms. Jessica peaked into the baby carrier Dean had set on the bench.
“Look at how big she’s gotten.” She awed. Ellie was asleep, so she spoke quietly. Jess frowned, finally noticing the two brown haired boys fighting over one of their comics. “Josh, stop pushing your brother.” She scolded.
“He took my comic!” The older of the two retorted. Jessica just gave him a stern look and he surrendered.
“Michael, give it back when you’re done reading.” Sam ruffled his youngest son’s hair. Dean knelt down.
“So are you two tough guys too cool to give your uncle a hug, or what?” He pulled his nephews into a warm embrace. “Are you both taller? You’re taller than the last time I saw you.” Dean pat Josh on the back. “You’re gonna be taller than your dad before you know it.”
“You know, you’d see them more if you flew out to California.” Jessica noted. Dean’s eyes widened. She laughed. “I know, I know, you have a thing about flying.”
“I want to go to California!” Eric exclaimed.
“One of these days, we can go on a roadtrip in Baby to Uncle Sam and Aunt Jessica’s, how does that sound?” Dean promised. Eric nodded, excitedly wriggling in Sam’s arms.
Everyone loaded up into the van, Sam sliding into the passenger seat. Dean had to laugh. This was just so crazy. Here they were, driving in a van packed full of children. Their children. He thought of all of the times Sam sat beside him in the impala, the two weary from a hunt. It felt like a different lifetime. Like a different world. It felt less real.

You’ll find a woman and you’ll find love
And don’t forget son, there is someone up above
Four children ran around the backyard, jumping in leaf piles and chasing each other with sticks. Jo seemed to rule the yard, keeping her older cousin at bay with her stubborn persistence. Dean smiled proudly.
“She’s quite the pistol.” Jessica noted with a laugh, jutting her head towards Johanna. She was sitting beside you, bouncing her baby niece in her arms.
“I wonder where she gets that from.” You gave your husband a smirk. He wrapped an arm around your shoulders and pulled you closer, pressing a kiss to your temple.
“I love you so much.” He whispered. The tone in his voice made you glance up at him. He was watching you with intensity in his eyes. So much love and yet… there was pain there.
“I love you too.” You laced your fingers with his, your concern evident in your voice. “Dean, are you okay? You’ve been acting a little weird all day.” You spoke quietly so you wouldn’t worry your brother-in-law. Your husband gave your hand a gentle squeeze.
“I’m fine, really. I’m just…”  Dean felt an overwhelming wave of emotion and choked back tears. “Really happy.” He lifted your chin up, bringing your lips to his. Everything was perfect, right down to the way your lips fit perfectly against his. He knew, without a doubt, that this was real.
Soon it was time to put the kids to bed. Sam’s boys slept on the pull-out couch in the basement. Eric was exhausted from a day of excitement, as well as his baby sister. Dean was charged with the task of putting a rambunctious Johanna to bed.
“I want to stay up and drink beer like a big kid.” She pouted, making the adults in the room chuckle. Dean crouched down and picked her up.
“Alright, here’s the deal. I promise that when you’re a big kid like me and your mom, then you can stay up and have a drink with us. But until then, you’re gonna be my little deputy right?” He tapped the golden plastic badge that she never took off. Jo grinned from ear to ear and nodded. Humming a Bob Segar tune, he took her upstairs to her room and tucked her into bed.
When he came back down stairs, his brother and the two women were smirking at him.
“What?” You and Jessica exchanged a look and burst out laughing. “Come on, what?”
“That girl has you wrapped around her finger, Dean.” Jessica snickered. You took a sip of your beer.
“Oh, he’s like that with Ellie, too. He dotes on them like you wouldn’t believe. One little pout from Johanna and he melts.” You couldn’t help but beam at your husband. You loved the way he was with the kids.
“I got her in bed, didn’t I?” Dean huffed, taking his seat beside you and resting a hand on your knee. Sam shook his head.
“It’s all in the looks, brother. You may think you’ve one this round, but I saw the look in Jo’s eyes.” Sam gave his brother a sure nod. “She knows where she stands.”
“At least I’ve got Eric,” You sighed teasingly. “He’s a mama's boy, through and through.”
You curled up beside Dean, comfortable in his warmth. He kissed the top of your head.
The hours passed with plenty of laughter and love. Soon, it was getting close to 11:00 and you wanted to get plenty of rest for the busy day tomorrow. Everyone would be helping prepare the massive Thanksgiving meal that the Winchesters made every year. Sam and Jessica said goodnight and headed to the guest room while you and Dean made your way upstairs.
You reached your rooms and Dean’s hands found your waist, his lips trailing up your shoulder to your neck. You leaned back into his embrace, bringing your hand up to tangle your fingers in his golden-brown hair. His hands started to wander and you sighed mournfully.
“Baby, we both have to be up in the morning.” You groaned, breaking away from him. When you turned around, he was pouting, his green eyes big and sad. So that’s where Johanna got it. He was just so impossible to resist, but if you didn’t go to bed now, you’d be exhausted before dinner even started. You draped your arms around his neck. “I’ll tell you what; how about we get a good night’s sleep tonight…” you pulled him close and whispered into his ear, “and I’ll give you something to be really thankful for tomorrow.”
Dean’s eyes widened and his smirk spread into a smile.
“Mrs. Winchester, we have a deal.” He loved the way that sounded coming from his lips. Mrs. Winchester.
You gave him a long and passionate goodnight kiss before changing into your pajamas and climbing into bed.
It must have been around 12:30 when the baby started crying. The baby monitor was on your nightstand, so you were awakened by the sound first. Dean moved to get up, but you stopped him.
“I’ll get her.” You sleepily shuffled out of the bedroom. Reaching the hall, you muttered something that your half-asleep husband only half comprehended. Something about the electricity acting up again.
The crying continued and you didn’t return. Dean yawned, rubbing the tiredness from his eyes and got out of bed. He slowly made his way down the hallway to the nursery. The door was ajar and the lamp had been turned on. You must have gone downstairs to get her a bottle.
Dean picked up his crying daughter, rocking her soothingly in his arms. She wailed and wailed until she heard his voice.
“Alright, sweetheart. It’s alright. Daddy’s got you.” He hushed. After a moment of rocking and soft whispers, Ellie started to settle down. As soon as her cries reduced to the occasional sniff, Dean set her back in her cradle. “That’s it. You’re going to be just fine. I’m not gonna let anything hurt you.”
Smiling down at his beautiful baby girl, Dean felt something on the back of his neck. When he touched it, his hand came away red. He froze, and as if his body went into auto pilot, he turned around. At first he couldn’t scream. He just stared.
Your mouth gaped at him, your eyes filled with terror and pain as the blood spread out from your stomach. Ellie started to cry again.
“No!” Dean screamed. That’s when the fire started.
And that’s when he woke up.
-
And be a simple kind of man
Oh, be something you love and understand
Dean sat straight up, sweat soaking through his t-shirt, his scream still on his lips. The cool air of the bunker made him shiver. He couldn’t breathe. He heaved and coughed as if the smoke really filled his lungs. A sudden hand on his shoulder made him jump out of the bed and flatten himself against the wall, holding out his fists to fight.
“Dean?” You rose slowly, walking towards him cautiously. “It’s okay. It was just a dream. You’re okay.”
He just stared at you, taking in every feature. You watched his eyes fill with tears and his chin tremble as he tried to speak. Nothing came out, just a strangled sounding cry. Dean fell to his knees and you rushed to hold him. Whatever it was, it wasn’t just a nightmare.
Dean wrapped his arms around your middle and leaned his head against your stomach as you soothingly ran your fingers through his hair. He didn’t make any sound as he cried, but the tears fell endlessly down his face. He was shaking in your arms.
“Dean, honey, what’s wrong? You’re scaring me.” You whispered. This wasn’t the first time that he’d woken suddenly from a dream, but it had never been like this.
You told him that you were pregnant today. He seemed happy. Shocked, but happy. But now? Whatever was going through his head was breaking him. You sunk down in front of him so you could hold him fully, letting him cry into your shoulder.
“I’m sorry.” He finally choked out. “I’m sorry that this is all I can give you. I’m sorry that we don’t have a big house full of kids. That Sam has lost any chance at happiness. That we can never have a normal life.” You pushed back.
“Baby, what are you talking about?”
“I’m sorry that this baby is going to grow up haunted and broken… just like me.” His voice cracked. You put a hand on his cheek.
“Dean…” You pressed your forehead against his, feeling your own tears start to fall. “This baby is going to be loved and wanted and cherished, just like you.” You kissed him gently, reminding him of your adoration of this hero of a man.
Dean held you closer, letting your words sink into his heart. He wanted to believe it. He wanted more than anything to believe it. Even in his beautiful dream, you ended up burned and bloody. Even in his dream, he was broken.
But that didn’t mean he wouldn’t try. He would try like hell to give you a life as close to perfect as he could manage. Maybe that meant hunting together until you went down guns blazing. Maybe that meant settling down, someday, somewhere. He would try.
Baby be a simple kind of man
Oh, won’t you do this for me, son, if you can

Sitting on your unzipped suitcase you huff to yourself, making another attempt to zip it, but it’s so stuffed, there’s no way you can do it by yourself. Just on queue, you hear the front door open and close, the soft humming of your boyfriend breaking the silence outside the bedroom.
“Baby?” he calls out as you’re still desperately trying to stay on top of the suitcase and move the zipper around, but it just wouldn’t.
“Bedroom!” you call out with a sigh and a few moments later Harry appears in the door, leaning against the doorframe with an amused smirk on his lips.
“Need any help?” he questions and you nod at him eagerly. “You do realize we’ll be back by the 28th, right? No need to pack all your stuff,” he tells you as he walks over, kneels down and motions for you to just sit on the suitcase while he zips it.
“I do know that, but you know I like to be prepared for everything!” you tell him and gift him with a satisfied grin when he finally manages to shut the zipper. You get off the suitcase and as you both stand up, you wrap your arms around his neck pecking his lips softly while his arms circle around your waist. “Are you excited?” you ask smirking at him.
“Very,” he chuckles lightly, giving your side a gentle squeeze. “Are you excited?” he asks back, keeping his tone delighted, but you can sense his seriousness through his tone, he just wants to make sure you’re not thinking it all over.
This is your first Christmas together. Well, not exactly, but the first one as an official couple. The two of you are staying with your family from the 23rd to the 25th, so you are leaving today, before flying over to the UK and you meet his family for the first time. You’d be lying if you said you are not a mess about that part, but he assured you that his mother already loves you just from what he has told her about you.
“I am excited and a little nervous,” you truthfully tell him. He returns your look with a warm, encouraging gaze. You’ve talked about this a few times and he is always quick to tell you it’s going to be alright, but you both know you’ll only calm down fully when you are finally over your rounds of introduction.
“Mum is all over the place already, she is doing a whole feast just for you,” he chuckles, his fingers gently rubbing your sides.
“She shouldn’t go all out just because of me!” you sigh shaking your head. “Just a simple dinner is perfectly fine.”
“I told her, but she is stubborn. She wants to celebrate that I’m finally bringing someone home,” he smiles down at you, pressing a kiss to your forehead before letting go of you to get rid of his work clothes he has been wearing all day.
“Wait, you haven’t brought anyone home?” you ask, not even trying to hide your surprise. Harry shakes his head no.
“Not since… I was eighteen? I think.”
“Now I see why she is making it into such a big deal.”
“Oh really?” he cocks an eyebrow at you, taking off his white shirt and throwing it into the hamper.
“I’m special. Your first serious girlfriend!” you beam, enjoying the feeling that’s taking over in your chest. Harry chuckles, placing a kiss to the top of your head as he walks past you towards the bathroom.
“Of course you are, baby. I always tell you,” he says before locking himself up in the bathroom to take a shower.
It’s around four when Harry closes up his own suitcase, much lighter than yours, you might add, and the two of you head out of town. This year, the family is going to the same cabin in the woods like last year. It fitted so perfectly previously that everyone agreed to spend another holiday there, so it was settled pretty quickly.
Sitting in the car, with one of Harry’s hands on your thigh you can’t help but smile to yourself. Just a year ago, you were in the exact same situation, but in a whole different setting. Only scraping the surface of your feelings towards Harry, while this year, you’re not only officially a couple, but you are already living together. A little fast down the line, but you couldn’t have it any other way.
“There you are!” your mom greets the two of you upon arriving, basically running down the stairs to wrap you in her arms before she does the same to Harry.
“Hi mom, sorry we are a little late,” you tell her. You were supposed to arrive an hour ago, but your plans fell when Harry emerged from the bathroom, all wet and almost fully naked. You just couldn’t keep your hands to yourself, so you left a little later than you wanted to. No regrets though.
“Don’t worry about it,” she waves in dismiss, helping to get your stuff inside.
Everyone is there, so you run your rounds greeting everyone and the kids don’t hesitate to basically attack Harry. He will not have a moment to himself with those little monsters obsessed with him, but you can’t blame them, you feel the same way about him.
“Oh wow, does this bring you back any memories?” you smile at him upon walking into the same room he had last time, only this time you are both staying in it and you won’t have to invade him to use the amazing shower the room has. Harry smirks at you dropping the suitcases to the floor before he grabs your hand and pulls you to him.
“Mm, that time you were so keen on sleeping next to me both nights? I remember that,” he smirks, so full of himself, you smack his chest gently with a dramatic gasp.
“Excuse me? I bet you were falling for me so hard just by sleeping in the same bed,” you roll your eyes at him.
“Oh, I was already in love,” he simply tells you.
“Really?”
“Mhm, like, properly in love with you. And sleeping with you was like torture especially after seeing you with that dumbface,” he snorts letting go of you to pack out his necessities from his suticase.
You didn’t think he was actually in love with you, but you had a feeling something major was already going on.
“You were jealous?” you ask tilting your head to the side, watching him grab his toothbrush and showergel to put out in the bathroom.
“Baby, I was raging,” he admits making your smile grow wider. “Worst fucking day after the one you rejected me.”
“Aw, I’m sorry,” you pout and kiss his lips shortly.
“S’okay. It was all fine in the end,” he smiles before disappearing in the bathroom.
Your heart is so full, spending time with your whole family and having Harry by your side. After everything that happened during the year it’s such a relief to just enjoy the company of your loved ones without a worry. It’s almost like last year, but now you know you are here with the absolute right person and you can’t get enough of Harry interacting with your family members, especially with the little ones. Though he is the godfather to only one of them, you are certain they all see him as a cool uncle and it just feels completely right. His favorite thing to do is to roam around the backyard with Valerie, who is now fast on her little feet and obsessed with going on little adventures with Harry.
This year, instead of drinking in the kitchen all night you choose to do something else to keep you up for quite some time and though you enjoyed playing that game with him a year ago, this version is so much better and satisfying.
Upon gathering around the tree to swap gifts you notice that Rosa looks a little nervous, but when you ask, she just says she didn’t have a good night sleep because Valerie kept pushing on her in the bed and you believe her.
You watch everyone opening their gifts one after the other, wrapping paper slowly covering every inch of the hardwood flooring. You’re sitting between Harry’s legs, one of his arms curled around your shoulders from behind and you melt into his embrace gladly, enjoying this loving moment.
All gifts have been opened when Rosa stands up and tells everyone to stay a little longer. When she returns she has two more, carefully wrapped gifts, She hands one to you and one to your mom.
“It’s for you and dad,” she points at the one at your mom before turning to you, “and this is for you and Harry.”
“We’ve been extra good this year?” you joke as you feel Harry leaning forward to see the gift on your lap over your shoulder and you and your mom start unwrapping it at the same time. You can tell Rosa is anxious about the gifts and you have no idea what to expect as your fingers work on the wrapping paper. Harry rests his chin on your shoulder, watching it curiously as well.
Opening up the box you immediately gasp when you see a little baby bodysuit with the text “I ❤️ aunt Y/N and uncle Harry” written on it. At the same time, your mom squeals in happiness, jumping right into Rosa’s arms as she understands the message as well.
“Rosa! Is this for real?” you ask, feeling your tears filling your eyes, pushing yourself up.
“Yeah,” she chuckles, clearly touched as well. “I’m four weeks along.”
The whole room gasps and soon they all start congratulating your sister on her second baby. You hold the little bodysuit up, feeling Harry’s arm tight around your waist as he takes a look at it as well. Turning around you see the warm smile on Harry’s lips and his gaze meets yours.
“Exciting, right?” you smirk at him.
“Yeah. Another little gremlin around,” he chuckles, but you can tell he is stunned, especially because of what’s on the bodysuit. It doesn’t say anything about godparents, but aunt and uncle. It means that Rosa and Steven already see him as fully part of your family and that they want him to stay for a very long time. You can tell it means a lot to him, having a family in the States, since he often tells you about missing his family throughout the year. He travels home about three times a year, but you can tell he would love to go a lot more often and you also know that your family can’t replace his, nor do you want it to, but it’s nice to know that he has so many people who care about him here as well.
The evening stretches long that night, staying at the dinner table until midnight, just talking and having a good time before you all start returning to your rooms. You let Harry take a shower first while you reply to some texts from your colleagues and after you are done in the shower as well, you find him already lying in bed, scrolling through his phone, waiting for you to join him. He places the phone to his nightstand when you crawl under the covers, curling up to his side as he wraps his arms around you.
“So, how was your first Christmas with us as my boyfriend?” you ask with a cheeky smile, resting your chin on his naked chest, fingers tracing his tattoos around his collarbones.
“Hmm, he hums to himself and you can already tell he is gonna say something dirty. “It definitely involved more sex than last year,” he states making you laugh.
“You’re such a pig,” you snort, but can’t bite back your smile either.
“I had a blast,” he answers then truthfully. “I loved it last year, but it was even better this time.” His beautiful green eyes meet yours as you push yourself up so your lips could connect with his.
“Can’t wait to have another baby around,” you tell him with an excited smile, knowing well your eyes are sparkling from the news you received today.
“Yeah,” he nods, a lot calmer, but you can tell he feels just the same amount of happiness as you do. “Our kids will have a shit ton of cousins and second cousins,” he chuckles softly, not even aware how his words just made your heart flutter.
“Our kids?” you ask back, smile growing wider as you stare up at him.
“I mean… yeah,” he nods, seemingly nervous that you caught his slip, he clearly didn’t think through what it really meant. “You want kids, right?” he asks, a little unsure.
“Of course. Do you want kids?”
“Definitely,” he confidently answers.
“And do you want to have them with me?” you ask, feeling a little shy. Though he didn’t give you any reasons he has different plans, you still felt the urge to ask.
“Yeah,” he softly says, eyes meeting yours as he is searching for any sign that what he said scared you away, but it’s clearly the opposite. “Is that… okay with you?” he questions and his uncertain, little anxious tone makes you chuckle.
“You’re asking me if it’s okay that you want to have kids with me?” you ask, finding his phrasing funny and he chuckles as well realizing that he could have said it in a better way.
“I guess,” he smirks.
“I’m okay with that,” you pat his chest and push yourself up to meet your lips with his again. “Not now though, but soon.”
“Yeah, I’m fine with that. I like that it’s just the two of us now,” he admits, eyes soft and loving on you, fingers gently caressing your arm that’s draped across his stomach. You return his smile before nuzzling your head back onto his chest.
“I like that too.”

“Oh no…he’s/she’s/they’re cute.” Please? 💓
Hi @theroomofreq 😊 thanks for the lovely request. Hope you enjoy this coffee shop meet-cute for Romione 💜
Our Usual
Hermione considered coffee to be the nectar of the Gods. The daily bitter fuel was an essential part of her mornings, a pre-ritual before a full day of classes at uni.
Her favorite local coffee shop was just round the corner from her flat and she spent almost every morning cosying up in a secluded booth in the corner of the shop, sipping leisurely on her signature brew. However, this day was a tad bit different. She had finally managed to convince her best friend and roommate, Lavender, to grab coffee with her. Lavender was not a morning person, therefore, she was rather disgruntled when Hermione dragged her out of bed early on a Friday morning.
The bell on the door chimed when they stepped inside. "Well, this place is just darling," Lavender remarked straight away.
The appearance of the shop was aesthetically pleasing. The light was dim, set for ambience, with soft, smooth jazz music playing in the background. The aroma invaded their nostrils as soon as they walked into the cafe, the distinct smell of fresh pastries mixed with ground coffee beans. Hermione inhaled deeply; it was one of her favorite smells in the world. The room was relatively quiet, apart from the sounds of the milk steamer on the espresso machine.
As they walked further into the room, Hermione could make out the rows of cakes and biscuits, all encased in a glass cabinet below the counter. Coffee beans, packed into little black baggies, lined the shelves behind the coffee bar.
Several other university students were scattered about various tables; many were completing written assignments, some reading the newspaper, and others were seated with friendly companions.
Hermione sighed happily. She noticed there was a short queue to place an order. "Lav, why don't you go find us a table and I'll get our drinks."
"Perfect. I'll take a mocha."
Dave, Hermione's favorite barista, waved at her once she made it to the front counter. "Hi there, Hermione. Your usual today?"
"You know what Dave, I think I'm actually going to try something different."
"Sorted, what can I get you?"
"Two mochas please."
"Coming right up."
She paid quickly and retreated back to the table where Lavender was seated. Hermione was confused by the baffled expression on her friend's face as she walked over.
"What?"
"Hermione Granger…" Lavender murmured in a low tone, "there is a man at the bar counter that can't keep his eyes off of you." Dave? He was the person she last saw at the counter. Surely, it can't be him. He was friendly, but she had talked with him enough to know there were absolutely zero sparks between them.
Hermione scoffed. "Don't be absurd."
"I am not joking, Hermione, and sweet Merlin, he is quite handsome. Can't say I'm not a little bit jealous."
"How do you know he's not looking at you?" Hermione retorted pointedly.
Lavender rolled her eyes as if it was the most ridiculous question in the world. "It's simple - the whole time you were putting in our orders, he was looking at you. And he had the biggest grin on his face. His eyes practically followed you back to our table. You should take a look."
"No, definitely not."
"Look, Hermione!"
"No, cause then it will be obvious!"
Lavender gave her puppy dog eyes and Hermione relented. With a heavy sigh, she peeked surreptitiously over her shoulder.
There he was. A man with bright auburn hair, swept to the side, and the deepest blue eyes she had ever seen. And he was absolutely looking at her. He offered her a curvy grin and then quickly averted his eyes, as if he was embarrassed to be caught staring.
Hermione whipped her head back around and bit her lip. "Oh no...he's cute."
Lavender smirked. "You say that like it's a bad thing."
"It is! I can't afford any distractions right now."
"That's the worst bloody excuse I've ever heard" - Dave called Hermione's name to signal the drinks were ready - "Now go up there and get our coffee orders." Her friend certainly was stubborn.
"Can't you please pick them up?" Hermione begged.
Lavender shook her head determinedly. "No way, sweetie. This is all you. Now go."
Hermione's feet wobbled all the way back to the coffee counter. The mysterious man was now had his back to her, seemingly engrossed in the reading material in front of him. She smiled hesitantly at Dave as she grasped the edge of the counter. She was so close to this man in the same way she was just a few moments before, yet her heart certainly wasn't pounding then like it was now. She politely murmured a thank you as she retrieved the mugs. Her voice must have sounded shaky and her hands gripped the handles of her mugs nervously. She could feel the man's eyes on her.
When Hermione peered down into her mug, she noticed an unfamiliar heart design etched into the foam. "That's curious…"
"I'm impressed. That's Dave's best artwork, yet."
Hermione turned her head before she could even remember that she was trying to avoid eye contact with the man who spoke. She was electrified by the intensity of his gaze and the way his piecing blue eyes lit up when she finally glanced his way. Oh, there are definitely sparks with this one.
"Here's your warmed scone, Ron." Ron.
"Brilliant, thank you Dave," Ron smiled graciously as he took the plate with the soft pastry.
"He knows your name," Hermione observed.
Ron froze, as if he was baffled that she was speaking directly to him, but attempted to play it cool and shrugged, "Yeah, I'm here probably five days a week...in the mornings."
What? "There's no way...I'm in here five days a week."
"Yeah…" Ron blushed and looked down at his paper, "I know."
He knows. Her heart thumped loudly in her chest. "You've seen me before?"
He scratched the back of his neck nervously. "I see you most mornings, honestly. Although, I have a feeling today is the first day that you've seen me," he chuckled.
Hermione felt incredibly guilty. How is it that this handsome specimen had been this close to her several times in the past and she hadn't even bothered to glance his way? She was certain she would have noticed him if she had. "I'm sorry, it's just that usually when I come in here, I'm alone, and zeroed in on my revisions. But today is a little different." She pointed to the two coffee mugs.
His face fell slightly. "Oh, are you here with someone else today?"
Hermione couldn't help but smile. Does he look disappointed? "Yes, my roommate. She's not a big coffee person, so I haven't brought her here before." She could see the tension in his shoulders release.
"Ah, I see." Ron smiled at her softly for a moment and then held out his hand. "I'm Ron - Ron Weasley."
Ron Weasley. She took his warm hand and jumped slightly at the prickling sensation that spread up and down her arm. She thought Ron had to have felt it too, given the way his body twitched. "Your hand…" He murmured softly, his eyes fixed on their still-joined hands, "it's quite chilly."
Hermione pulled her hand back quickly, watching the disappointment stretch across his face, "Oh, sorry." She placed both hands around her porcelain mug and sighed happily, the warmth enveloping her icy fingers.
"So, Hermione...I like your name," He commented genuinely.
She wrinkled her nose slightly, surprised albeit pleased, as she took a sip of her coffee, "You do? I suppose it is rather unique."
Ron shrugged. "You're the first Hermione I know." He then pointed to her mug, "Straying away from your usual, eh?"
Hermione lifted a curious eyebrow. "How do you know what my usual is?"
Ron appeared slightly embarrassed again, his face turning red, as he looked at her sheepishly, "Well...uh...I usually get the same thing."
It was then that Hermione recognised the double espresso next to his pastry plate...her usual drink. She often savored the earthy taste, indulging in the lingering bitterness of the liquid.
"You...uh...you have excellent taste."
"So did you...until you sweetened it up a bit too much," he scrunched up his face adorably at her mocha, but then his expression shifted into a cheeky grin.
"Oi! I'm trying to branch out here."
Ron held up his hands defensively, sending her a lop-sided grin that made butterflies flutter about her stomach. "Don't get me wrong, I love sweets! Just not in my coffee."
"I'll drink to that," Hermione laughed and took a sip from her mug.
"Erm...you've got a little bit…" He pointed to a spot on his own upper lip and Hermione's eyes widened just before she hastily wiped the foam from her mouth with the back of her sleeve.
Ron gazed up at the ceiling, as if he was debating an idea, and then called out to Dave, "Hey, you have any double cream back there?"
Dave smiled knowingly and deposited a dollop of cream into Ron's espresso cup. Ron picked up the cup and brought it to his lips, intentionally smearing the cream all around his upper lip and nose.
Hermione giggled and pulled her bottom lip between her teeth. Oh my, she wasn't quite sure she had ever felt this relaxed around a man who wasn't her father before.
"Smooth," she teased, "You've officially ruined our favorite drink."
"Oh, bugger." He didn't look the least bit upset about it. They eyes danced happily together once more, both unwilling to break the contact.
The doorbell chimed, causing Hermione to pivot her attention towards the exit. In all that time, Hermione hadn't realised that Lavender had snuck behind her to request her coffee in a to-go cup, and was now waving at her from the front door. Lavender gave her a quick wink before exiting.
Hermione sipped leisurely on her coffee at the counter with Ron for several minutes, both enjoying the simplicity of each other's company.
"Hermione," Ron gazed hopefully into her eyes, having obviously worked up the courage over time, "I hope this isn't a long shot, but would you wanna have coffee together sometime?"
Hermione beamed from ear to ear, her eyes twinkling as she cleverly responded, "I thought we already were?"

Take Me Back
Pairing: Tom Holland x reader
Warnings: Smut, mention of cheating and alcohol abuse, break-up angst
Note: Have I really just written something not mob!tom related? I’m as shocked as you are. This is my first time posting something that contains sexual content on this level, it’s kinda nerve wracking so any feedback would be appreciated! Also, let me know if I’ve missed any warnings I should have added.
-------
2,032 words
The bar wasn’t your usual scene. You preferred local, intimate places not clubs like this. Despite being underground the mirrored ceiling made it feel twice as open. You looked out over the dance floor from the mezzanine at the entrance door searching for your friends. Rhythmic lighting spilled over the space. It was almost filled to capacity with bodies dancing to bass so loud it reverberated through the soles of your new shoes.
An exaggerated wave from the middle of the bar caught your attention and you smiled as your friend signalled you over. Gripping the handrail of the metal steps you took a breath before descending. You still weren’t completely comfortable with the outfit you’d been talked into wearing but judging by the looks you were getting as you cut across the floor it wasn’t as bad as you’d initially feared.
“Damn, Y/N! You look incredible!” Your friend gushed pulling you in beside her at the bar. Signalling to the bartender she had them pour out two shots. Turning to you with a devilish grin she offered you a lime wedge.
“No way. I just got here,” you refused. As much as you enjoyed drinking the past three months had been filled with nights spent at the bottom of a bottle. You were slowly getting back control. Reigning yourself in after the worst breakup you’d ever experienced but it was a slow process.
A lot of your recovery had to do with the guy you’d met a few weeks ago. Tonight was the first night he’d meet your best friend, the one whose opinion could make or break the possible relationship.
With a sulky pout she downed her own. “So, when will this mystery man of yours get here?”
“He should be here soon.” Your friend leaned her back against the bar, eyes scanning the room.
“Hmm...is it him?” she mused pointing to a guy with too much hair product. “No,” she shook her head, “it’s got to be him.” You followed her finger and snorted a laugh as you watched a guy dancing awkwardly in the corner.
“Stop it. You’ll know him when you see him,” you promised. Turning back to the bar to order a beer you heard her gasp even over the loud music. In the mirrors lining the glass shelves you could see him approaching and couldn’t stop a smile. Your friend not so subtly nudged you.
“Is this real? Is he coming over? My god, he’s gorgeous” she babbled. You took a long sip of your beer and decided to let her work it out on her own.
“He looks like he works out so much. Those jeans, that t-shirt...” You could practically hear her drooling before she quickly spun to face you. “Shit, he’s actually coming over, what do we..”
“Hey, Y/N.” Settling your beer on a napkin you watched your friends eyes widen, mouth agape. With a laugh you finally faced him. His smile faltered as he took you in, a faint blush creeping up his face.
“You look amazing.” Leaning into you his hand rested on your hip as he kissed your cheek.
Just as your friend had said, Adam was gorgeous. Standing a good foot above you with tousled blonde hair and classic baby blues he wasn’t your normal type, which is exactly why you’d gone for him. After the last failed relationship it was clear what you were attracted to and what you needed were two different things. Adam was your clean slate. Your fresh start.
It was different with him. There hadn’t been an instant attraction but the more you got to know him the more relaxed you felt. Sure there was still no flutter when he kissed you, no spark, but given enough time you were sure that would grow.
You introduced your friend who was still having a hard time closing her mouth all the way, then using Adam’s height to your advantage you got him to find a free table at the edge of the room. Sliding into the booth between them you settled in for the interrogation. He didn’t seem phased. He linked his warm fingers with yours and answered as honestly as possible. Watching him you couldn’t help but smile as he devoutly tried to stop his gaze from wandering to the low cut of your dress and the way his cheek flushed when he failed.
Beer finished you excused yourself to grab a new round for the table. The queue at the bar was steadily getting busier as the night went on. You tried to work your way further down to a quieter spot, keeping your head down and gently elbowing your way through the groups. A gap opened up and you rushed to move into the space only to collide with someone. Your foot slipped on a spilled drink and a strong hand caught your waist to steady you. Cheeks heating from embarrassment you internally cursed your shoes. Gathering some courage you glanced up to thank your saviour and the words died in your throat.
Soft chestnut eyes stared down at you intently. You’re heart hammered under their gaze, sweat starting to make your hands clammy. You’d thought you’d never see him again. You’d hoped you wouldn’t. But here he was, looking immaculate in an all black suit and even better than you remembered. The heat of his hand against your waist seemed to sear through your dress and you tried to step back out of his reach but he only pulled you closer.
“Y/N.” The room seemed to still, the music dimming. All you could hear was his voice. The rough edge it held when he said your name had your body reacting as if the last few months hadn’t happened. You clenched your fists hating how with one word he could get under your skin again after all this time.
“Let me go.” You barely managed to whisper out the words but you knew he’d heard. He downed what was left in his glass and brushed against you as he placed it on the bar. The scent of him wrapped around you triggering memories that you’d tried to suppress.
Leaning in his lips brushed your ear as he spoke. “We need to talk.” Irritation flared. Who did he think he was? It had been months and now he wanted to talk? Steeling yourself you shoved his hand away.
“I have nothing to say to you, Tom.”
“Then listen.” You made the mistake of meeting his eyes and the intensity radiating from them dried up your protest.
“The guy you’re with is no good.” You jerked back away from him and he had the gall to look surprised.
Anger snaking through you, you felt your lip curl. “He’s none of your business. I’m none of your business.” Elbowing past him you fought the crowd blindly. You had to get away from him.
Reaching the back wall you slipped into a side hallway marked private. The music dimmed to a muted thump and you let out a ragged breath. As your adrenaline started to dip you started shaking. Wrapping your arms around yourself you tried to calm down.
“Y/N.” You cursed as you sensed him approach but refused to turn. Seeing him, seeing how little he’d changed and knowing how readily you still reacted to him was too much.
“Leave me alone.”
“Y/N, you shouldn’t be with him.” He’d stopped behind you, his breath ruffling your hair as he spoke.
You couldn’t hold back a bitter laugh. “You’re just saying that because you can’t stand to see me with someone else.” The beat of silence that followed had a chill creeping over your skin. Don’t look at him, don’t do it. Your fingers tightened into fists as you fought against yourself. God you wanted to turn around. You wanted to run your fingers through his soft curls, you wanted to breathe in the indescribable scent that was Tom as he held you and...
Hands skimming over your waist he closed the gap. His chest against your back you shivered at the warmth he radiated. You held back a soft moan as his lips ghosted over your throat.
“He’s not right for you,” he breathed. Your mind conjured an image of Adam and the realisation of what you were doing doused you like ice water. You spun out of Tom’s grip, palm pressed against the wall to steady yourself.
“You walked away from me, remember?” Your voice shook with effort as you tried to fight back tears. Tom grimaced, eyes lowering. Your heart ached at his expression but anger chased it off. “You don’t get to act the martyr, Tom, and you certainly don’t get to have a say in my love life.”
Gaze flashing up to you his shoulders set, jaw working for a long second before he spoke.
“Do you?”
“Do I what?” you snapped.
“Do you love him?” Taken aback your mouth fell open. When you didn’t answer he took a step forward. He searched your face, gaze dipping to your lips hungrily. Your stomach dipped traitorously as heat pooled through you.
“Tom,” you warned, voice barely a whisper. He was too far gone to listen.
Hands cupping your face his lips brushed against yours, feather light and testing your reaction. Your body lit up at his touch. Nerve endings that had been dormant firing to life. Despite everything your body craved his touch, needed him on a deeper level than you understood.
Fingers drifting to caressed your neck, he pushed you back against the wall. You gasped at the cold, arching against Tom’s chest to escape it and he mistook your movements as encouragement. Gripping your hip to pull you even closer he deepened the kiss. You could feel his excitement as he pressed against you and it broke your last reserve of control.
Lips parting you relinquished to him. Tongue flicking out to claim your mouth the familiar taste of sweet whisky brushed over your taste buds. His fingers drifted from your neck. Following the low V of your dress he traced the channel between your breasts before slipping them under the fabric. He let out a low groan as he realised you weren’t wearing a bra. Teeth nipping at your bottom lip his fingers massaged you, thumb circling your nipple drawing out whimpers.
Your hands wound into his hair, tugging at the curls. Lifting a leg to wrap around his waist you gasped as he rutted his hips against you. The soft fabric covering his erection brushed against you teasingly. Hiking your other leg around his waist he held you firmly against the wall, fingers digging into your ass. He dipped his head to kiss your neck, biting and suckling at the sensitive spot above your collar bone until you could barely think. Your underwear was ruined.
Slipping a hand between your bodies you traced the outline of his bulge slowly, intent on dragging it out like you’d imagined on long nights without him. When he bucked against your hand with a needy moan you knew you’d never be able to keep it up.
“Y/N?” The distant voice broke you from your trance. You tried to break away from Tom but he held you tight.
“Tell me you don’t want this and I’ll let you go back to him.” The ragged edge to his voice had you shivering.
“Tom,” you pleaded, heart breaking all over again as he watched you with tormented eyes.
“I made a mistake. I should never have let you go.” His lips ghosted over yours. “Tell me you’ll take me back,” he begged.
The sound of Adam calling for you started to grow louder but here in Tom’s arms the guilt and regret you should be feeling was kept at bay. All you wanted was him. Even if it was only temporary, even if it was only for tonight.
“I want you, Tom.” He relaxed, relief flooding his expression before he caught you in another heady kiss.
“Let’s get out of here.” The grin you’d missed so much lit his face as he gently put you down and guided you towards the emergency exit.

Requests (5/23/2021)
Hi lovelies! I’ve been getting so many requests & I’m working hard to get all of them in the queue. Thanks for sending them my way! I’m writing to let you know that the queue is now full until the end of June. I was able to get every requests from my May 8th post in there except for a few. Requests from May 8th for captions featuring Katy Perry, Jenna Fischer, Marisol Nichols, Addison Rae, Ariana Grande, Erin Kellyman, Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Jhene Aiko, & Kirstin Maldonado will be posted in early July.
But there have been an absolute ton of requests since then too, yay! So I’m listing all the requests that I haven’t gotten to below. If you made a request but don’t see it below that might be for a few reasons. 1) I’ve written it already and it will be posted in June. 2) It’s one of the requests I posted on May 8th so I won’t talk about it here. 3) I considered it a demand not a request (for example, I received two that said “Anything with,” that wasn’t really a request just telling me to do it. Sorry if this bothers some of you but it is an issue with me so make sure you word your requests AS requests). Either way, thanks for the love, lovelies! :D

Could you do one with either Kelley O’hara or Alex Morgan from the USWNT about a guy soccer player watching the US win the world cup and then want to be them or something like that?
I actually know who both those are (shockingly enough, I don’t really follow sports) so sure thing!

Hi I just had an idea for a game you could do. It could be where someone has to say as a boy what they’re like physically in stages. So first stage is hair color for example, second stage could be height, third stage could be body type, etc. An example would be if I was a black hair, short height, thick body type, I would match up with someone like Nicki Minaj. Just an idea which you could extend on. Hopefully it makes sense. I appreciate you!
I actually have a game like this mapped out called “Build a Sissy” where you choose age, hair color, and bra size, but it would take a LOT of work to make so I haven’t written it yet. Maybe some day though. :)

I would love to see a Tori Kelly caption. Her hair and body are not typical but beautiful for a white girl. I say that last sentence respectfully. I think having a caption with her would be great

I already know that this request is probably gonna be a No but I still have to ask whats the ruling on GCI enhanced celebrities like Taylor swift from Cats?  Or is that too much like "Furry" stuff. Now I'm Feeling this will be a No for multiple reasons
So it is not an issue with CGI “enhanced” celebrities but for Cats it is because I do not have a Furry fetish and I get uncomfortable thinking about writing caps for it. But I write caps with “manips” all the time (photoshopped images of celebs) so I’m not ruling out CGI enhanced celebs all together.

Hi big fan of your caps!! Do you think you could do a cap where a football player wants to go to the NFL but gets hurt, so they turn him into a female commentator, maybe Lauren Rutledge? If you don’t know her, she’s been a college football reporter for awhile and was also a former Miss Florida. Anyways I just think any guy would be lucky to be turned into her and I love your caps keep up the great work!!
Me: *googles Lauren Rutledge to see if it’s who I’m thinking of* How do I know who this is? Anyways, yes I can write this. :)
...for some reason there are no GIFs of her though so I’m just gonna move on.

Hi I'm the one that requested the LONG list of celebs I'm still really sorry about that I didnt realize how many it actually was till I looked back so I wanna retract some for your sake tell ya what if you havent done any already just do the ones that are specifically marked (as in the ones detailed by movie or show theyre in) the ones that are just names you can leave out i knoe its still alot but hopefully that takes some weight off of ya sorry again
You don’t have to be sorry! Like I said, in the future I’d ask that folks limit requests to no more than 3 celebs at a time but you didn’t know that. I’d never said that before. I typed up every celebrity and they’re going to be sprinkled in during June. Hope you like them! :)

Hey, not really an ask, but something I needed to share
I'm the one that asked for the Stephanie Beatriz caption from a whole back, and I absolutely loved how it turned out. Each time you roll out a new caption is like a small thrill to me and I read them right as they're released.
Now this wouldn't be an ask if I wasn't asking something, right? Well, next month sees the release of the "In the Heights" movie, and there's an opportunity there to do a series of captions using stephanie Beatriz from that same movie.
In conclusion, I love your captions so much, you're amazing!
Awww, this is such a sweet message. Thank you! And YAAASSSSS! Ever since the first trailer for In the Heights dropped I was like, “I must write a caption with her in this!” So you can imagine how fun it’s been waiting this entire time. *eye twitches*. We’ll have to wait until the movie comes out for me to be sure I can find a good image but this IS a caption I want to write. :)

Hi I just recently came across your blog and fell in love with it!! The caption with the football player being turned into Bella Thorne is one of my favorites!! I’d love so much if you could do a sequel or something to that cap it was so amazing and I need to know what else happens to “her”. I’m not sure if this is possible or if you even do sequels but this cap was great and I look forward to all the others!!!
Glad you like it! I’m always looking for sequel captions to write on Throwback Thursday so you’ll get this for sure. :)

Hey big fan! Do you think you could do a caption where a short guy gets made fun of by all his girl friends for how short he is? Ariana Grande is fairly short and I think a caption of her (of age of course) would be awesome
You got it!

How about instead of removing the captions with Demi in them ,the images of Demi were just replaced with another celeb and if Demi is mentioned by name in the caption then that could be edited  to mention a different celeb. I respect Demi's decision I do but lets not lose some well made captions. Also if you could please make a caption where Amy Adams feminises a fan and raises them as her daughter and Kristen Stewart makes you her submissive wife that would be appreciated. I'm a fan of them.
So about the Demi Lovato captions: I understand your feelings but I’m still going to delete the original captions. Because of how my captions are made I can’t just go back in & swap out an image or edit the text, I have to remake it from the ground up. I am hoping to do that with some (maybe all) of the Demi Lovato captions & re-publish them, but I’m still going to delete the originals.
I can do the Kristen Stewart one for sure and I’ll TRY to do the Amy Adams one I just am not 100% sure I can find a pic for that but we’ll see. :)

If it’s possible before your summer hiatus could you do a caption with Amanda Crew (silicon valley, sex drive)?
I will do one with Amanda Crew but I can’t commit to doing it before the hiatus.
Tumblr media
About the hiatus: I don’t know when it’s going to be. I want to TRY to make it to at least July 18th because I have a specific game in mind I want to post for 5 years of Celebrity TG Captions games, but after that I have no idea. I’ve been writing caps for a longer stretch of time since normal since I’ve switched to a part-time blog so I might burn out at any second but for right now I’ve still got some juice.

Trail of Breadcrumbs: Part 1
Okay y’all, I haven't written fics in years and all of them were TRASH (lol). So I’m here to see if I've improved and because I have so many fic ideas in my head that I don’t know what to do with. If you have ideas and nowhere to put them, send them my way (except for fluff I get way too uncomfortable to write that shit).
CW: Smut, cringe fluff moments (because you can’t help but be a little fluffy with these himbos), Trash writing, hand on throat but no choking
All characters belong to @lumosinlove
Finn was just chilling on the couch all stretched out with his ankles crossed as he read A Tell Tale Heart (he had never actually finished an Edgar Allen Poe book and he was determined), freshly showered from their early morning weight training with his glasses perched on his forehead because he was rubbing his eyes and forgot he pushed them up there, subconsciously pulling the book closer to his face. He could hear the shower running, not knowing which if not both his boys were in there. He sighed and yawned a little as Logan walked past the couch to grab his hat off the coffee table.
“Where are you headed?” Finn reached for Logan after setting his book still open on his chest and wrapped an arm around his waist. Lo laughed and turned around with Finn's hand landing on his ass.
“I told you I had to babysit for Celeste and Dumo today Ding-Dong, don’t act like you didn’t whine for a half hour about it because we don’t get to read tonight” Leo and Finn had been taking turns reading a chapter a night out loud of The Lord of The Rings to Logan and they were all really into it by now.
“Breaking the reading streak is punishable, just so you know”
“I hope that's a promise” Lo snorted and gave Finn a chaste kiss as Leo decided to make his grand entrance in only his boxers. Water dripped from his hair down his toned chest that was flushed from his hot shower as he smiled sweetly at his boys and came to stand next to Logan.
“Tell Katie I say Bonjour when you get there!” Leo leaned down for a kiss of his own and right as their lips touched Finn pinched Logan's ass making him jump and knocking his and Leo's teeth together. Making them both pull away as Finn laughed, Logan rubbing his lips and Leo running his tongue over his teeth.
“I guess that's my queue to leave” Logan shot a half hearted glare at Finn and swatted his arm away in the most dramatic of fashions. “Bye guys, love you, don’t have too much fun without me!” he walked towards the door and shoved his hat on his head then after he slipped his shoes on turned around and blew kisses to his boys as he walked out the door.
Leo was suddenly straddling Finn, smiling, he looked him in the eyes and did the infamous Head Tilt. Suddenly, Leo was on his back and Finn’s glasses fell onto his nose and they laughed as Leo set his book and glasses on the table next to the couch as Finn started kissing around the waistband of his underwear.
“Waited for Lo to leave?”
“I didn’t want to but you know he wouldn’t have left and we would have gotten an earful from Dumo- Fuck! Finn just like that” Leo threaded his fingers through his soft auburn hair as Finn sucked him all down in one go after leaving a hickey on his hip. Leo rolled his hips and tugged on Finn's hair just like he knew he liked it. “How long did Lo say he was gonna be gone tonight” Leo was watching Finn intensely as he was pulling off leisurely swirling his tongue on the head of his cock drawing shivers from him. He gave one last long suck on the head and pulled off with a pop while panting, he loves watching Leo fall apart under him and smiles.
“About 2 hours, just while Dumo and Celeste are at dinner” he spoke calmly and nonchalantly as if he wasn’t jacking Leo off with slow tugs with a twist. He lowered his head to lick the slit wanting to taste the bead of precum starting to dribble out. Leo moans and tugs Finns hair hard enough to pull the boy up to have their lips mean in a clash of teeth and tongue, he wraps the hand not in the red locks around the back of the freckles boys neck as Finn keeps pulling hitching breaths and soft pleases from the boy under him.
Leo pulls away and starts kissing Finn's cheek to his ear and basically purrs into his ear. “Finn I want you to fuck me until he comes home~” he sucks on the spot behind Finn’s ear and he tilts his head to the side to allow Leo more of his neck and shivers when He licks from the base of his throat back up the his ear and nibbles on his lobe. “Does that sound like something you want~ if not I can always go and have fun with myself.. mmm fishy” Leo pulls away to look Finn in the eyes and see the soft amber eyes with pupils blown wide and dark with lust.
“As if I would say no” He playfully rolls his eyes as Leo laughs and stands up pulling his shirt off and tossing it on the floor. “Let’s leave a path to the bedroom like breadcrumbs in depressing kids stories” he’s taking off his sweats and underwear leaving them in a perfect like to the bedroom and Leo shakes his head as he also takes off his boxers finally and hangs them on the doorknob then beckons the older boy with a nod of his head into the room.
Next thing he know he’s being tackled on that bed and they are both laughing as they roll a little ending up with Leo’s head hanging off the side of the bed and Finn kissing his neck still chuckling as he fumbles for the 3/4th empty bottle of lube and yells to their Alexa, “Alexa add Lube to the Shopping list” and snorts when she answers as he sits on his heels in between the younger boys legs and smiles at him. “You’re so pretty Peanut” he leans forward and kisses his forehead.
“Sap” Sunshine boy flicks Finn's forehead but can’t stop the smitten smile that lights up his face.
“You’re hanging out with Loops to much if you’re starting to call me a sap”
“What can I say it’s nice to be around someone as mature as I am” he laughs as Finn makes an offended sound and playfully smacks his thigh. “Are we gonna fuck or just laugh at each other while our dicks are out?”
“It’s not so different from every other day in the locker room”
“We haven’t fucked in the locker room-“
“Yet” Finn laughs and adds some lube on his fingers and warms it up by rubbing it between his fingers as he bends down to kiss Leo’s inner thighs smiling into the kisses as he looks up at Leo. “Ready Peanut?”
Smiling as a blush covers his cheeks, blue eyes meet brown. He nods and Finn gently pushes past Leo’s tight ring of muscle as the younger boy sigh in relief and he reaches down to grab behind his knees and pulls his legs up. Finn praises the higher power for his sexy flexible boyfriend that has given him so many ideas in the very moment. He starts pumping his finger in and out of Leo getting more and more turned on by the sounds the Younger boy is making, Leo is normally vocal but Finn can tell he’s putting on a show for him.
“Another, add another! Please Finn I need more!” Leo is moving his hips but since it’s been a while since they have last done anything Finn is a little hesitant to add another so quickly with how tight Leo is. Murmuring hold on babe and be patient, He watched his finger sinking in and pulling out of Leo so many times he probably could have got off on just that but he took a couple deep breaths and added his second finger. “Yes! That feels so good, uh.” Leo’s voice pitched up at the end as Finn curled his fingers finding his prostate, he started moving his fingers faster just grazing that spot every time. He started a rhythm of moving in and out fast and deep for three thrusts and slowing down to curl his fingers to press his prostate on the fourth. Leo had his head thrown back over the side of the bed panting and not forming sentences properly as Finn fucked him with his fingers, he brought his hands up from his knees to his ankles and pulled his legs open as wide as they could so his hands were next to his shoulders and toes touching the bed above his hands and he felt Finn stop and lifted his head to look at him. “What? Why did you stop” he blinked a couple of times and realised his boyfriend was staring at his legs with a face that was just pure awe.
“WHY HAVEN'T YOU EVER DONE THAT BEFORE, holy shit I’m gonna cum just looking at you!” Finn, with a face and chest now as red as his eyebrows, reached his hand down to grip the base of his cock willing himself not to cum at the sight of a disheveled Leo with his fingers in him and his legs stretched so nearly over his shoulders. Fucking goalies man. “ I fucking love my life” he dove in for a heated and sloppy kiss as he added another finger into Leo and pumping quickly because he needed to be in him soon or he would cumbust. ;)
Leo kissed back with a burning passion and arched his back as Finn pounded his fingers in him. When Finn pulled away to pull his fingers out and lube himself up Leo let his head fall back again with a dopey smile on his face.
“Ready my little nutter butter baby” Finn smiles and lines himself up gripping one hand on Leo’s strong thigh and one hand on himself. He looks up to Leo who is biting his lip smiling with his dimples on display and Finns heart did a dumb little flip.
“Ready when you are” Leo winks and his body hums in anticipation and then pleasure as Finn presses forward into him slowly while kissing Leo’s chest leaving small hickeys as he goes. Finn watches Leo’s face open up and his mouth open as he bottoms out. Leo’s moving his hips up to meet Finn and they both sigh. The older boy starts moving slow and Steady but snaps his hips forward causing the younger boy to lose the grip on his leg that Finn had his hand on and pulls it through his own hair tugging on it lightly as an obscene moan falls from him. The pace picks up as Finn moves his free hand around Leo’s neck to just hold not choke because Leo likes to be held but not choked. The hand on his thigh is a bruising grip and the hand on his neck is keeping Leo from flying off the side of the bed.
“I knew the trail of clothes would lead to something good~” Logan was standing in the doorway to the bedroom looking at his boys with dark eyes and a smirk. He locks eyes with Leo and strides over to squat down next to him and be face to face.
“Dites-moi à quel point il ressent mon soleil ~”

The Art of Waiting
Characters: Miyako & Iori
Summary: Miyako cannot stand it, but she watches in awe at the boy who has the patience for it.
Word Count: 879 words
Notes: (c/p from AO3/FFN) I wrote this two months ago and finally have the chance to post it. This was written for a prompt challenge based on two characters meeting at an airport. This also diverges from canon. The Digital World adventures never happened and Iori and Miyako have never met, but despite that I wrote this with their qualities of friendship in mind.
~*~*~*~*~*~
Could this line move any slower?
That was what Miyako thought as she stood in the middle of the airport security checkpoint queue, where dozens of people lined up in front of her, as though they were frozen in place. She counted exactly six minutes before she could step one foot forward.
As her frustration grew, so did her doubts of going on this trip in the first place. Her mother suggested this as a treat for graduating high school, and told her how fun it would be to explore a new place, especially after complaining about being stuck in her hometown for most of her life.
"Isn't this what you've always talked about, Miyako?" her mother asked. "To find your way into a new world, away from everything else?"
If I could find a way into a new world where slow-moving lines didn't exist… Miyako thought to herself. Turning to look behind her wasn't any better, as the queue looked just as packed as it did ahead of her.
After an hour that felt like years, Miyako finally went through the security scanners with her carry-on bag in tow. A growl from her stomach alerted her hunger, and she walked down the corridor toward the gate of her flight to observe any good options for food.
Lines. More lines filled every food stand. Sheer irritation overtook her craving for an indulgent ice-blended coffee, and she resorted to the empty convenience store to grab a bottled tea and a wrapped muffin.
When Miyako approached the waiting area for her flight, she was not surprised to find that most of the seats were filled, and a few people were standing in wait. She sighed in exasperation and found an open space for her to stand and get a chance to eat.
As she took a bite of her mediocre muffin, she looked around the waiting area, resigning herself to the fact that the flight was to a popular tourist destination, anyway. But among the people sitting and talking within their groups, she noticed him seated in the first row, silently reading a book.
Miyako wondered how he could sit in the middle of all that noise and read even a line from a page without going crazy, as she imagined herself doing. She watched him as he calmly flipped through the pages and showed no signs of breaking.
But then, he lowered the book, and Miyako thought he had finally had enough of the noise.
Except he had only lowered his book to take a sip of his hot beverage, and settled back into reading his book soon after.
There was an empty seat next to him, and Miyako decided then and there that she would sit in it. She wasn't sure what motivated her to approach him. Maybe it was the fact that he acted so calm and composed when he was surrounded by the chaos that usually got to her head. He had reminded her of the quiet neighbor whose grandfather always said "hello" to her parents in passing. She had never thought to talk to him. Why would a quiet boy want to be bothered by a rambling loudmouth like her?
Yet, she had always wanted to talk to him, just like she wanted to talk to this person now.
"It's a pretty cool place we're going to, huh?" Miyako asked as she sat down next to him.
He didn't respond and continued reading. Miyako was sure she spoke loud enough for him to hear, but she began to feel foolish about her habit of speaking without consideration. Her mother had always scolded her for her impoliteness.
"I've read that it was nice," he replied, soft-spoken.
For a moment, Miyako was taken aback, and she wondered whether his lips actually moved even though his eyes hadn't left his book. But when he lowered his book again, this time to turn to her, Miyako smiled and continued to talk. Words spilled from her lips about the places she thought were worth visiting.
She went on to talk about the one place she wanted to visit the most which happened to be the most popular attraction, and she even fretted about the potential lines she would have to fall into.
"I'll go when you go, if you'd like," was his reply. "That way, the wait wouldn't be too bad."
Miyako stared at him with intrigue. "You don't mind it, do you?"
"What do you mean?"
"The anxiety of lines. The noisy crowds."
"I'm not bothered by things I cannot control. What's the point if paying attention to them can ruin your day for no reason? That's what my grandfather taught me."
"Huh. And what about a stranger talking your ear off?"
"You seem nice, and grandfather told me that I should meet new people."
There was a bell ringing on the intercom, followed by a voice announcing that the flight was open to board. Miyako was the first to stand, and when the young man stood up, she lifted her hand toward him, smiling in earnest.
"I'm Miyako," she said.
"Iori," he replied with a kind smile.
Together, they walked toward the flight gate. They fell into a line, yet again, but this time, Miyako didn't mind at all.

“What’s this?”
Calum’s attention swiftly turned from cleaning his house and getting it ready for his parents arrival to Arden. She stood in the kitchen, facing the fridge with a timid hand outreached to the door. He knew exactly what caught her attention and prompted the question. He bit back a smirk as he left the throw blanket he was folding in favor of sidling up to her, hip pressing into the cabinets and a nonchalant hand finding the cool marble of the countertops. Her fingers lingered on familiar paper and she turned to face him with a raised eyebrow.
“Don’t tell me you’ve forgotten your own work,” Calum teased and let his smirk come back full force.
She let out a small giggle through her interrogation and shook her head. “Okay wise guy. Why is it on display on your fridge door?”
The paper placemat Arden had quickly drawn Calum in in red crayon and sharp lines laid under a magnet on the face of his fridge. He had fished it out of his wallet the night before, not having forgotten it in the folds but keeping it around in an attempt to remind himself of what was real. Their time at the diner was the first of many escapes. It was a comfort to know something honest and authentic stayed with him when he was forced to lie through his teeth; to fabricate stories during interviews, to pose for social media and paparazzi. It was of him and drawn by her in a moment that no one else got to share. It was theirs and theirs alone.
“Because I’m still waiting for a painting to put on the wall. I thought that’d be a good place holder and reminder,” he said and shot a pointed look at the blank living room wall; the empty space above the fireplace begging for life of lively colors and loose waves created by Arden’s hands. It was front and center. A place Calum would be able to see it from almost any position in the living area of his home. He continued in a teasing tone, “you should really get to it.”
Their conversation on the beach about the Clifford house hallway once being lined with Arden’s art only to be replaced by band accolades hadn’t escaped Calum. His request of a painting reminiscent of sunset on the beach wouldn’t go forgotten or be replaced. Arden nodded, the motion was slow and her gaze was indecisive, fingers abandoning the placemat to curl at her sides. A forced shrug lifted her shoulders.
“You know painting is just a hobby for me, right? They’re nothing special,” she said, her voice became meek and her eyes averted his gaze.
Calum was picking up on subtle queues. Her usual ability to hold eye contact faltered when anything about her life was in question. The strength of her words felt weak and weary as if there was a weight crushing her; taking away her usual eloquent articulation and animation. Calum eyed her for a moment, took a peek at the drawing on the fridge and turned back to her.
“Just a hobby,” he replied to the first half of her statement. “That you enjoy and are really good at.”
She smirked, finally looked directly at him once more and raised an eyebrow in challenge. “I also enjoy dancing while I clean and singing in the shower but I assure you I have no rhythm and am not the Clifford sibling blessed with vocal abilities. Sometimes we just do things; whether we’re good at them or not.”
Calum didn’t know if he had the ability to challenge her further, to push her and make the strength in her voice falter again. So he changed the subject and took her mind away from replaced paintings and feelings of inadequacy and back to lighthearted teasing tones that lifted weight off the reality they were living. Just like moments in the car where their situation became a joke, Calum changed gears in hopes it would make her smile and quip back at him.
“So you won’t be singing at our wedding then,” he said with an over dramatic sigh and side eye; found that his plan rewarded him with a smile and a laugh.
“No, I’ll save that for you,” she replied and twisted the ring that Calum was becoming accustomed to seeing on her finger. The diamond was still much too gaudy and unlike her but it felt familiar and Calum was unable to picture her without it. “If you’re lucky maybe I’ll show you my dancing on our honeymoon.”
Now Calum’s cheeks were warm and tinting with a blush that spoke of the implications her words held; watched as she skipped away from him with a sarcastic laugh following her to the living room where she finished folding the abandoned throw blanket. Calum didn’t have a comeback or rebuttal though his thoughts were filled and alarm bells tried their best to ring through the haze. He shook himself, tried to blow those thoughts away and nearly jumped at the sudden knock on the door. For a moment he feared it was their parents arriving early, interrupting their plan to work out what details they would and would not share with them during their suspected inquisition. But he rationalized and realized it was Michael, he was to arrive early to be in on the details. He wasn’t sure if Michael’s arrival was better or worse.
***
Calum’s arm found its way around Arden’s shoulder in an all too natural sense. It fit a little too perfectly, was a little too easy and normal. Eyes were on them, parents and siblings; eyes that questioned and eyes that knew but had inklings of wonder clouding them. Michael had agreed to keep up the charade though he made a point that he wouldn’t like it and they both owed him big time. Calum’s arm around Arden was all part of the act but Calum could tell Michael was pondering why it was so easy for them to pull off. He could also see the doubt in his sister’s frown and hoped the panic wasn’t so clearly written on his face. He knew he wasn’t standing with his usual confidence, posture a bit slumped and weight bearing into the cabinet behind him. But Arden eased into his side and loosely held his hand; helped to settle the nerves that simmered and sparked with their families arrival.
“What’s this?” His sister Mali asked, repeating Arden’s earlier words verbatim, touching the same place mat secured to the fridge in the same exact way.
A small grin captured the corners of Calum’s mouth. There were a lot of things he felt he wasn’t prepared to answer or could have thought out more, but Arden’s art wasn’t among them. He knew exactly what to say.
“Arden drew it. On our first date,” he offered and felt the shift of Arden moving to look up at him.
“First date?” She wondered aloud, eyes meeting and holding gazes as she arched her eyebrow in question and amusement.
“At the diner,” Calum began and blew out a breath, hand gliding down her arm as he got lost in the role; caught up in a new game where control really did land in their own hands. He offered truths veiled with something more and something less. He shifted his gaze back to Mali who was eyeing them both; sizing them and their story up. “She told me to sit still and hid it from me until it was done. I’m keeping it up until she gives me a real painting.”
Mali nodded but her eyes squinted and lips pursed for a moment. She took a few seconds to accept the truth and offer a smile before wandering off in search of Duke; past their parents congregated in the dining area. Calum let out a deep breath, all the nerves that felt on the edge of exploding calmed at his sister’s acceptance. Neither Calum or Arden moved from their position, his arm still held her close and her hand didn’t drop from its hold. If asked by Michael later it would be out of necessity. If Calum was honest with himself it’d be a source of comfort.
“Here I thought our first date was the wedding,” Arden whispered, nose twitching as she blushed a timid pink. She stayed quiet so no one else could hear her words but her eyes were wide and told Calum truths no one else would understand. “Your way we got engaged before we even started dating.”
She let out a small giggle and the sound was enough to collide with Calum’s nerves and make the slight alteration of the truth come to life and feel real. Maybe their first date was the wedding, maybe it was an escape in a run down diner, maybe it was a night under the stars during a dying party where inhibitions roamed free. Maybe they hadn’t been on a date at all. What Calum knew was whether the scenarios were real or fake there was something building within him that he couldn’t control or deny.
“We didn’t need to date before we got engaged,” Calum whispered back, eyes averting to the dining room for a split second to ensure their privacy. Their parents still lingered and made small talk; Michael did his best to act as the host. “It was love at first sight, right?”
Arden shook her head, tendrils of hair fell into her face that Calum felt comfortable enough to push back behind her ear this time. She bit her lip and pushed away from the counter their backs were pressed against; Calum worrying for a moment she was also pushing away from him, but she stayed under his arm and her hand firmly held his.
“I’ve known you most my life. I don’t think we fell in love when we were six.”
“Love at second first sight then,” he amended with a laugh; wondering if there might be some validity to that statement.
During their time in the face of the facade Calum often found himself thinking of the first night he had seen Arden again. The house party was ingrained in his memory and the subtleties of her under moonlight stayed with him in vivid flashes and familiar words. He hadn’t known it upon second first sight, not in that split second when their eyes met across the yard and she offered a recognized head nod, but it started to become apparent with backs pressed to the siding, drinks gone empty and pouty lips begging for a favor.
Calum let Arden lead him into the dining area where they were met with an unexpected outcome. Mali’s slight doubt and questioning was drowned out by the belief of their parents. The stories they fed them seemed to win them over; made them excited at the prospect of their children finding each other and falling in love. Though it was quick and unprecedented—with phone calls and circumstances that felt nothing short of suspicious—their parents were blinded by what they assumed was their children’s happiness. Happy. Proud. Excited. All of those words floated around them in a barrage of parental chatter. Calum felt the shift in Arden before he saw it; the way she stiffened against his side, her hold loosening on his hand and the shift of weight from one foot to the other and back again in a rhythmic sway of uncertainty. He wondered if it was anxiety, if the situation wasn’t okay, if there was underlying guilt brimming to the surface.
They made it through dinner, most of the time was spent in a haze that passed over Calum’s thoughts as he drifted from checking the rigid posture that captured Arden and the beaming smiles that their parents graced them with. Every intone of excitement, every near teary eyed admission of pride and pitch of happiness in their voices had Arden lurching. It was minimal and went past the others but Calum caught the subtleties; the slight twitch of her arm or the purse of her lips, the downcast gazes of shiny eyes. His own nerves had calmed but he worried for Arden. It was her want to keep up the charade but he had to wonder if her mind was changing and what that meant for the rest of the visit.
It wasn’t until after dinner when the dishes were done and everyone had split up into smaller groups that Calum sensed something was completely amiss. Arden was in the living room with Mali and her mom—he’d heard her voice just moments ago—but when he rounded the corner she was gone. Before he could ask, before he could even form the thought to ask, Mali was answering for him.
“She took Duke out,” Mali said as she stood and gestured to the sliding glass doors that lead to the backyard. Calum was quick to head over but his sister stopped him short with a low murmur and hand on his wrist. “I know management has a hand in this.”
Calum knew his surprise showed; jaw slackening and an air of disbelief leaving him at the unexpected cornering. Mali could read Calum like a book and they’d never been ones to keep secrets. She was a bit more comfortable reaching and pushing for answers than Calum was but knew when to let up. Her touch fell and she nodded out the door.
“But I know you’re doing what you think is best.”
Calum swallowed down a lump in his throat and exited the house with Mali’s parting words ringing through his mind. The yard was empty, the sun was setting low on the horizon and casting glimmering specks of light against the water in the pool. It reminded him of the sunset dancing along the beach. Of Arden in the water and his towel. Of moments that were too real to be part of the farce. She was nowhere in sight and the usual jingle of the tags on Duke's collar couldn’t be heard. He figured she must have gone to the front yard or up the street to give the old dog a good stretch and walk after dinner. He rounded the side of the house and stopped short. She sat in a familiar position; back pressed to the siding and face turned to the sky. Duke was settled in her lap and nosing his concern into her stomach. Her hands slowly pet him and Calum came to see the glint of a fallen tear tracking down her cheek.
“Arden,” he said her name softly, his own worries etched into his voice. He didn’t want to startle her but she turned to him quickly and wiped at the tear, tried to pretend it wasn’t there or that he hadn’t seen it. She was making to get up but Calum settled down beside her and she stilled. “What’s going on?”
She sighed and he heard the brokenness of her breath. The fracture between the inhale and exhale. “Pretending is just a lot harder than I thought.”
Calum’s chest tightened and his fingers curled into his palms at her response. Her voice was shaky and her hazel eyes were distant. He didn’t understand what she meant. It all seemed to be going well—their parents weren’t as probing as they thought they’d be, they weren’t disappointed in their rash decision or the way they painted the engagement; with glints of the truth and softened edges of drunken escapades.
“Why? They’re all okay with it. Happy even,” Calum offered in an attempt to soothe whatever was bothering her.
Pretending for their parents had been her idea; a request so as not to disappoint her parents with a drunken story and fake relationship. They curated pieces of the truth together and kept to their guns. It was working. But she was cracking and Calum didn’t know why.
“Did you hear them?” She asked and shook her head as Duke nuzzled in even closer, feeling her distress and wanting to offer comfort as well. “They said they’re happy… and proud. The only thing they can be proud of me for is something that’s not even real.”
Calum blanched at that statement. He felt the wind knock out of him and suddenly all the subtleties of Arden at the table began to make sense. It was his turn to shake his head, not able to grasp why she would feel that way. But the shine of her eyes and the bite of her lip spoke volumes of the sorrows she was feeling.
“They didn’t say that’s all they have to be proud of,” Calum reasoned, knowing her parents and the love and pride they had for both of their children and all of their accomplishments.
“I know,” she seemingly agreed and let out another breath. “But they didn’t say they were proud of anything else. Because there’s nothing else.”
“That’s not true,” Calum denied and knew he shouldn’t tell her her feelings were wrong or invalid but they sounded like intrusive thoughts and self doubt; something he’d struggled with himself and would’ve liked to have someone to put them into a new perspective. “You went to university, you travelled, made amazing art—there’s plenty more than us for them to be proud of.”
Arden didn’t say anything for a moment, content to take comfort in the affection Duke was showing her. Calum saw the wavering of her jaw and contemplation cut across her face. She took another few seconds to pull her thoughts together before turning to look him full on, familiar eye contact bringing her fully back to him. He preferred when their gazes didn’t break—liked the strength he could find in hazel even when the subject was delicate and breakable.
“Michael never told you why I really came to visit, did he?” She inquired and Calum realized he hadn’t even asked.
He was too caught up in getting to know her and playing the game that he forgot it all started with a visit. He forgot she had been dodgy in answering that first night at the party. He was sure there was more reasoning than missing Michael for her sudden appearance in a place she so vehemently avoided and seemingly despised.
“No,” Calum answered. “I didn’t ask either. I figured you’d tell me when you were ready.”
Her shoulders slumped as if the weight of the story was bearing down on her at the prospect of telling the truth. Eye contact was steady as she opened up and revealed pieces of her past Calum had only been left to wonder about.
“I was supposed to be figuring things out here. Trying to get my life together and make decisions. Michael was trying to help.”
Calum nodded his understanding. There was a time when he had decisions he needed to make too; two paths unwound at the same time and no right or wrong answer had seemingly been in sight. He’d done the same, sought out his family and then listened to what was inside of him. It took time and then it was sudden, the band was the path he followed and it was a choice he had never regretted. He wanted Arden to follow a path like that too, to wherever she was seeking and find whatever she wanted in life.
“I get it. I know how difficult that can be,” he said and watched as a look of disbelief cut across her features and settled in the way she stared blankly back at him.
“How would you know?” She asked and though the question may have seemed accusatory or like he could never understand, her tone verged on begging to know if he really did and how it was possible. “You had the band. Isn’t that what you always wanted? Didn’t you just… know?”
Calum let out a small and almost sarcastic laugh and quieted when he realized Arden was serious. He realized she didn’t know the choices he faced. They weren’t exactly close during their teenage years; the formation and come up of the band had divided their worlds even more so. It was hard to think of those times, after the weeks Calum had spent with her and all the bits and pieces of their pasts coming back it pained him to think they had been so close yet so very distant from each other for years.
“I had the band and I had football. I had to choose,” he explained and caught her attention as he noted the arch of her eyebrow and the stall of her hand petting Duke.
“But you had options,” she mumbled. “Either would have been something to be proud of.”
“Neither had that certainty, the band might not have succeeded, my football career could have burnt out before it really began. I had to make a choice and then I had to take a chance.”
A breeze passed between them as Arden contemplated his honesty. The situations weren’t carbon copies of each other but they were similar enough Calum felt empathy rattling his ribcage and putting a pang of pain through his heart. The crumple of her face and the stray tear she didn’t bother to brush away left Calum breathless and wanting to reach out. He was hyper aware of everything; their parents in the house, Michael, alarm bells ringing so clearly in his mind, but drowned them out in favor of following his initial instinct. The pad of his thumb was gentle across her cheek, she didn’t say anything, didn’t flinch or question the action. His hand and heart fell as she slightly pulled away and abandoned his gaze to stare up at the night sky. She shifted and settled, sighed once more and geared up to voice her thoughts and struggles by sinking into the comfort Duke provided.
“I wish I had something more solid, something I want. All I have is half a degree and no fucking idea what I want to do with my life. I dropped out of university and travelled to ‘find myself’ but really just ran away. I have nothing that I’m good at.”
Calum was about to interject and remind her of paintings that once hung in the hallway and a place mat posted on the fridge. Her hand finding its way to his knee stopped the words from coming out and he had to wonder if that was her intention. One breath and it was gone.
“At least, nothing that I’m so passionate about that I know it’s what I want,” she said in one fell swoop and surprised Calum. “I don’t have a dream that I'm chasing. If anything I’m only trying to move out of someone’s shadow and doing a bang up job of it. Now I’m caught behind two and stuck in lies that will never end. That’s nothing to be proud of.”
Calum’s throat tightened at the unexpected honesty and turn the night had taken. Only minutes before they were surrounded by family and mindless small talk—or so Calum thought. It was about the engagement and the band and in that moment Calum realized anything to do with Arden outside of their situation hadn’t been brought up. He couldn’t imagine feeling casted into the shadows. His heart ached for her and the struggles she felt she was facing alone.
“I’m sorry for asking you to pretend with our families,” she added, head shaking slightly. “That wasn’t fair. I should just toughen up and tell them the truth. And don’t worry, I’ll tell them it’s my fault and I asked you to go along with it. You shouldn’t have to take the fall for my lies.”
She made to move as if to get up but Calum was quick to stop her; just a light touch and slight shift stalling her intent and bringing them closer. Duke was in her arms but found his way to the ground and stalked off back into the house. A belated moment and skipped heart beat gathered courage for Calum and helped words come out that he had been thinking for weeks. Words that settled in the back of his throat and burned sugary sweet.
“What if it’s not all pretend?”
“What?” Arden was quick to respond and panic—the fear that captured her eyes was unsettling. “Calum, what do you mean?”
She was poised and waiting for his answer as his mind went into chaos. He wasn’t sure he was ready to face everything that came with his own truth but the words came out too soon to stop them. His thoughts were tangled now, fleeting visions of real moments dancing around his mind.
“That we’ve been real… with each other. All those moments away from it all. Those were real. Weren’t they?”
They were real to him—and so were the feelings that followed and defined those moments. The alarm bells rang in full force as she tilted her head and the minimal distance between them felt craterous and minuscule all at once. Peaches invaded his senses and the taste of sugar was just a breath away but it was blown away by approaching footsteps. Arden moved away on instinct and Calum wondered if alarm bells rang in her mind as well. She settled back on the grass just in time for Michael to round the corner and come into view with his arms crossed and a ghost of a smirk disappearing from his face. Calum and Arden both looked up at him in silence and waited for him to speak first.
“Everyone was wondering where you guys wandered off to,” he began and then shot a pointed look at his sister. “Mum and Joy are talking about wedding dresses. Told them I’d find you, they thought you wouldn’t want to miss it.”
“Right, thanks for the heads up,” Arden said around a sigh and began to stand.
She shot Calum a glance as Michael began to lead her back to the house. Calum was quick to get up and follow her into the conversation of possible bridal styles and centerpieces. Duke had found his way to his usual perch on the couch and perked up when Calum and Arden walked in. Calum took up Arden’s side as she broke into the discussion by clearing her throat to announce her presence. The mothers turned to look at her; eyes alight with wedding wonder and idle chit chat being broken.
“I don’t know how to say this,” Arden began and Calum’s stomach sank as he realized the truth was verging on her lips. His hand reached out for hers, in solidarity, to show that he would stand beside her no matter what she decided. They could weather the storm better together than stranded and alone.  “But Calum and I aren’t getting married.”
Instant regret flooded Arden’s eyes as the room fell silent and shock hung thick within the air. She tensed against his side and turned to look at him with a pleading expression that Calum could only interpret as reversing the statement and making the visible disappointment and heartache vanish from the room. He hoped it was what she wanted.
“Not yet, anyway. We rushed the engagement, clearly. We don’t want to rush the wedding too. We want to enjoy some time together without the pressure of planning. We’ll let you guys know when we’re ready for that,” Calum jumped in smoothly as he watched the panic disperse from Arden’s eyes and felt the appreciative squeeze of his hand—a signal and a thank you that reassured him his hope was correct.
Everyone simmered at his explanation; they called Arden’s statement complete theatrics and not a funny joke though they were laughing, Calum guessed it was more so in relief than in good jest. Michael was the only one who didn’t wear a reaction so clearly on his face, just an arch of a questioning eyebrow at the initial honesty of Arden he hadn’t been privy to. Calum knew some explaining to Michael was due—and that Mali wouldn’t be so easily satiated with the on the fly explanation he had come up with.
The rest of the evening went by in a blur of nerves that kept both Calum and Arden on their toes. They tried their bests to remember the odds and ends of what had already been said. Mali pulled Calum aside for a moment as the night was dying down and a bite of fear coursed through him as he knew her suspicions were sharp and came with merit.
“I still don’t know what’s really going on,” she began and offered a sympathetic smile that helped to calm his nerves. “But I can tell there’s something real there. Just be careful, okay? I don’t want to see either of you ending up hurt. Especially not by each other.”
Calum took her words for all they were worth but only slightly nodded to show he had been listening. He still couldn’t manage to give her the answers she was seeking but the nod acted as much more than a method to show he was listening. He understood. He confirmed. He agreed. The last thing he wanted was for this entire situation to end with hurting hearts.
The hole of lies and half truths they were falling into was being dug deeper and deeper; no landing was in sight. He swept the room as everyone prepared to leave or settle in for the night and his stare landed back on Arden who hadn’t peeled her eyes away from him since his saving moment. It took one look to realize that falling was okay, as long as it was with her. As long as it was real. Calum had started to speak his truth to her and now he could only hope that all of the falling feelings that consumed him were somewhere within her as well.

Chapter 1
Tumblr media
“What the fuck is he wearing Cracker?” Max asked Hannah as he nodded over her shoulder. Frowning, she turned to see Ari had walked in, briefcase in hand, dressed in a dark brown velvet suit and a white and gold striped shirt with a large, open necked collar.
Hannah snorted “He looks like John Travolta.”
“Walking like him too…” Sammy mumbled.
“Night fever, night fever…we know how to do it…” Jake sang softly, and the rest of the group all started to chuckle, hastily turning away as Ari walked towards the table and dropped the briefcase down on it.
Ari greeted Ethan with a nod of his head and looked around the room. His team was already gathered standing around the oval metal table, chatting idly.
Max and Jake were sniggering about something and Ari could clearly see Sammy was trying to keep a straight face, hands in his trousers pockets and looking at his feet while bouncing on them. Did he want to know? Probably not.
And then he noticed Hannah. She was chatting with Rachel who was admiring the brown leather knee high boots she was wearing. Ari heard Rachel comment something about her loving chunky heels as Hannah twisted her left foot so that Rachel could have a better look at the boots.
But Ari wasn’t interested in the boots, well, ok he was, but his gaze then travelled upwards, following her black tights clad legs and thighs, until his eyes mid-thigh met the hem of the skirt of her maroon pleated chord pinafore. Luckily for him, when his eyes continued past up her waist and the long sleeved polka dot blouse she was wearing, and he could take in the delicate features of her face, she was still engaged in some sort of fashion conversation with Rachel.
She was stunning, but what was new there? He had to admit to himself he had felt his chest fill with warmth when he had been running through the fake passports Ethan had given him the previous evening. He had opened hers first, sitting on his bed in the privacy of his hotel room, tumbler of Scotch in hand. His eyes scanning Hannah's passport photo over and over again.  Those big round blue eyes looking directly at him.
Firefly, he had muttered running his thumb over the photo before gulping his drink.
Thus, Ari knew which would be the one on top at the deck of passports he was now pulling from his briefcase. He was going over the questions he would be asking each one of them in his head when he heard Max asking him something.
“You got chills Ari?”
“What?” Ari frowned, his head turning to Max and in the corner of his eye he noticed that Hannah turned to watch, biting her lip as behind her Sammy laughed and hastily started coughing to cover it up.
“Are they multiplying?” Jake chipped in.
“Are you losing control?” Max continued
“Coz the power, you’re supplying…it’s electrifying!” the two men sang together as Ari looked at the pair of them rolling his eyes, a smirk playing on his face. Behind him Ethan groaned.
“Yeah, yeah, laugh it up…” Ari’s mouth curled into a crooked smile. “I’m Guy Thomas…he wears this shit…its fashion. And besides, Max, you’ve no room to talk!”
Hannah snorted and turned to look at Max, taking his outfit in in more detail. Because they were all in Zurich at the NATCOR HQ under the guise of a simple Mossad business meeting, Ari had instructed the team to come dressed as they felt their Alter Egos would dress for work. Sammy and Jake were both dressed in suits and ties, Max was in a suit with an open collar pinstriped shirt.
“He has a point…” Hannah conceded “You’re like the Kenickie to his Danny…”
“Grease was based in the 50s.” Max narrowed his eyes at her.
“Yeah, which is when that shirt was in fashion.” Jake said, slapping Max on the shoulder. Hannah and Ari snorted before they were cut off by an angry noise from behind them.
“Save the outfit discussions for later.” Ethan snapped “You lot are going to get yourselves killed for fucks sake.”
“Ethan, Ethan…” Ari turned to him, his voice soothing “Just, calm down…we’ve not even started the meeting yet.”
“Exactly, and we’re already behind schedule so if you don’t mind…” He nodded his head in the direction of the table and everyone, suitably chastised, took a seat.
Ethan and Ari ran the group through the plans regarding the next few months and how the deployment was going to work. They were to fly out on the 4th January, from Zurich, where Ari and Rachel would meet with the Sudanese Government and get the paper work and everything signed for the lease on the diving resort. Whilst they were there Max, Hannah, Jake and Sammy were to pair off and head to 2 different places to pick up 2 different cars which would be ready and waiting with supplies from 2 in country contacts. Once the explanations were finished, Ari then picked up the false passports.
“So you’ve all had enough time to read over your covers.” Ari said, flipping through the pile of passports, selecting one “Remember, the point of being undercover is you keep it simple. So you should have memorised the basics, your name, date of birth, parents names, address, hometown that type of thing. Everything else you can make up on the spot but nothing too elaborate. Don’t take it too far from the actual truth because whatever you tell one person you need to remember to tell another.”
He paused and cleared his throat. “Ok, let’s see how you fare under questioning.” he looked at Hannah “Firefly, you first… Name?”
“Rosa-Maria Gomez” Hannah repeated back, without so much as batting an eyelid, her Spanish accent flawless.
“Where are you from?”
“Valencia.”
“What did you do?”
“Bar manager at a local hotel.”
“Which hotel?”
“Sidi Saler”
“How long for?”
“Just over 10 years. Travelled for a year or so after University, settled back home when I was 19. Never looked back.”
There wasn’t so much as a hint of hesitation when she spoke. Ari smiled at her and tossed the fake passport down in front of her. “Good job.”  he said and with a faint smile she reached for the passport.
Next he put Rachel through her paces, picking her up on the slight hesitation she had over her address and then Jake’s mistake over his elementary school name. He then turned to Sammy.
“Sammy…name. Where are you from? “
“I'm Liam Anderson. Australia.” Sammy said, picking up his passport
“First girlfriend.”
“Mary”
“Tell me about her.” Ari said, stopping at the head of the table.
“Mary Rose. Took my virginity and broke my heart.”
At that, Ari saw Hannah, who was sat at the far end of the table next to Sammy shift slightly. Despite himself he glanced at her and she caught his eye before she looked down at the table. Ari turned back to Sammy who was still speaking.
“We met at the University of Queensland in Brisbane.  I was 19. Later died in a car accident.”
“It's good.  Good work, Sammy.” Ari turned to Max “You're up.”
There was a pause as Max stared straight ahead before he glanced at the passport.
“I still think this is a stupid name for someone from Malta.” Max protested “Why Malta?”
Rachel gave a little chuckle as Ari looked at him, rolling his eyes as his hands fell to his hips.
“Max, when you learn a second language, that's where you can be from. Till then you're from Malta. No one knows what people from Malta speak.”
“What do people speak in Malta?”  Rachel asked.
“Maltese” Hannah supplied and sniggers rang round the table.
“See, no one knows, that's the point.” Ari said with a smile before he looked pointedly at Max “Name”
“Hello, everybody, my name's Irving Wilmington.” Max said in a ridiculously, fake European accent which made everyone start to laugh “And I'm from Malta-“
“You think this is funny?” Ethan’s angry voice cut across the laughter and everyone looked up at the man as he strode around the table. “Just for the record, there's not one person in this group that I would have chosen for this type of mission. You're all too reckless.” Hannah looked at Max who raised his eyebrows as if to say, he has a point…which to be fair, he kinda did.
“I've gone against every instinct I know.” Ethan continued as Ari looked down at the floor “broken every risk management rule I believe in, including sending two women to a Muslim country.” Ethan said, looking directly at Hannah then Rachel “So let's be very clear.  This mission has no backup.  There's no exfil plan for you.  You're going in without guns, or any other weapon.  If this goes wrong, you'll all be hanging from cranes in Khartoum.”
With that Ethan left the room and there was a moment of silence.
“Can’t wait…” Jake said, leaning back in his chair.
*****
Of course, nothing every runs completely smoothly. Jake was stopped by the Sudanese Immigration, simply to be released once he had paid the ‘bribe’ the officials wanted. Ari spotted him joining the others in the queue for cabs as he and Rachel departed in the car to the Tourism Board.
Then, they met with their contact in the Sudanese Government, Colonel Madibbo and embarked on the anticipated haggling over the price. The man looked Ari in the face and told him that the lease was five hundred thousand, to which Ari replied simply that they had agreed Two-Fifty. After a little bit of negotiation, Ari moved up to three-fifty, informing the Colonel it was their best offer, but then loaded told the man that could write it down as two-fifty and then take the rest and do something beneficial for the people of Sudan.
“You may not speak Arabic, Mr. Thomas. But you do speak the local language.” Madibbo laughed, and Ari simply glanced at Rachel before smiling back, fully understanding that the “local language” meant he’d given the man a bung, and that the extra hundred thou was going straight into the  Colonel’s own back pocket.
Bent bastard.
A few hours later everything was sorted, they’d been given everything they needed and Ari and Rachel walked out of the building, climbed in the arranged car and were dropped off on the main high-street where they headed to the inconspicuous Café that had been allocated as a meeting spot. Remaining in character, Ari and Rachel, or Guy and Angela, greeted their team loudly, as if it was the first time they had seen each other for a while, and then they all settled down at a table outside on the packed market square, and Ari briefed them as if he was briefing resort staff. They all listened, picked up on his cues and after a quick coffee each they all stood up to leave.
As they were leaving the Café, Max tossed one of the jeep’s keys at Ari, who caught them with a swift movement of his hand.  Once they reached the spot where the vehicles were parked Ari opened the driver's door to one of them and turned to see his team had stopped and were looking at the trucks as if deciding who was going to ride in each one of the trucks.
"Ride with me?" Max turned to ask Hannah waving the other set of keys in the air.
"Yup. I call shotgun!" she said as a reply as she walked round to open the passenger side door.
"Right, I'll be on the back seat." Jake quipped as she pulled the seat forward and gestured for him to get in the back.
Ari shook his head, hands on his hips, as he looked at Sam and Rachel through his shades before opening the back door of their jeep for Sam to jump in, tossing his backpack on the floor of the car as Rachel went to the side of the passenger seat.
"Guess the three musketeers have decided for all of us." Ari said as he jumped up in the truck, a trace of bitterness in his voice which wasn't undetected by Sammy.
"Oh my. The great Ari Levinson scorned by part of his team." Sam said, amused and Rachel chuckled.
"You're hilarious Sammy." Ari deadpanned as he fixed the rear view mirror for the third time in the last couple of minutes before he set off.
"Maybe you should keep an eye on Jake." he spoke again a minute later, turning to look at Sam as if trying to make sure he understood what he was implying. Sam examined him for a few moments before speaking
"Yeah, maybe. And maybe you should keep an eye on the road and stop looking through the mirror." Sam deadpanned turning his head slowly to the side window.
***** A few hours later, they had a quick pit stop to stretch legs and changed drivers. Ari was keen to make as good time as possible so it was only for a few moments, Max taking a well needed pee at the side of the truck, groaning in relief. Hannah shook her head, before she climbed in the back of the jeep. They set off again, and their gentle chatter struck up once more.
"So..." Jake said, turning to glance over his shoulder at Hannah, one eye sort of remaining on the road. "I've been dying to ask. Your nicknames..." "What about them?" She asked, turning her head to face him from where she had been looking out of the window. "Why does Ari call you Firefly when the rest of the team seems to call you Cracker?"
Max snorted and looked at Hannah who was grinning. "Ok so the cracker thing came from a mission." She said, thinking fondly back "it was the first one we all actually ran together...me, Max, Sammy, Ari...Andy..." she trailed off for a moment before she continued "we were sat round the fire one night and Andy had a pack of those little savoury fish cracker things. We started playing a game as to how many each of us could fit in our mouths. Max insisted he would win...but who in fact did win Maxwell?" "You..." Max sighed "by 2 crackers" "So Andy started calling me crackers which became cracker and it stuck..." she shrugged. "Well, with everyone but Ari that is..." "Yeah, so explain the Firefly thing..." Jake pushed. "The first time I met Ari was when he came over one evening with Sammy. It was just before Sammy moved out." Hannah said "I was 17 and we were sat out in the garden at the back. It wasn't a huge garden, communal like, shared with 3 other houses but I loved it because there was a colony of lightning bugs, or fireflies that frequented it. It was a few months later Sammy was being an ass-hat about something and I flipped out at him and threw a mug at his head. It missed and smashed against the wall but Ari found it hilarious. Told I was just like those little fireflies I admired so much. Such an ordinary, unassuming thing on the outside with a hell of a surprise packed away underneath..." Jake paused and then started laughing "Now that's a back handed compliment if ever I did hear one." Hannah grinned "I know. When I asked him what he meant by ordinary you should have seen his face. He was all flustered and stammering and worried he'd offended me. Lasted all of 2 minutes until I cracked up laughing and told him I understood." "Well, fireflies are pretty awesome..." Jake smiled "A symbol of light in the dark, hope, warmth" "Yup, all things Ari said to me when he was back pedalling over the whole ordinary thing" Hannah smiled with a shrug "either way, it stuck."
My little firefly…
“Tell him what you call Ari.” Max said and Hannah snorted.
“El Lobo hambriento” She replied after a moment’s pause “Or Lobo for short.”
“And that means…” Jake looked at her again for a second.
“Spanish for the hungry wolf…” Hannah said “It came from when he used to eat my Mama out of house and home whenever he came round with Sammy. And over time it got shortened to Lobo…just wolf…”
Jake laughed “Well, he is kinda hairy…but you know, that should be my nickname given that I am actually a Wolf.”
“By name…” Max teased “You look like more of a poodle.”
Hannah laughed and leaned forward, so that her head poked between the front to seats in the car “You can be Loop.” “Loop?” Jake frowned.
“Short for Lupin…Latin for Wolf, or there or thereabouts anyway. Or it could just mean you’re a total fruit loop, take your pick…”
Jake gave a huge guffaw of laughter and looked at her “Does that make you Little Red Riding Hood?”
Hannah snorted as Max shook his head, looking out at the window “That’s the shittest chat up line I’ve ever heard” he spoke, turning back to Jake.
“Can’t blame a man for trying” Jake winked.
After a total of six hours and a couple more stops to stretch and freshen up, if that was even possible in the middle of the desert, they arrived in the resort. But they couldn't properly see it until they got out of the trucks, the windows being partly covered by dust as they had taken shortcuts over sand dunes to save quite a few hours more off the travel time should they have opted to use the main roads.
When they finally got out of the car they took some clumsy steps on the sand after being into the confined space of car for that many hours. Jake lit a cigarette and as he looked at Ari he couldn't help but make a howling noise to Hannah who started laughing immediately. As if on cue, Max started howling too and the three of them were caught in a fit of hysteric laughter,  Max bending his body for balance and Hannah leaning on Jake's arm.
Ari, Sam and Rachel stood there watching the three of them, dumbfounded. Ari shared a glance with Sam before he shot his sister a look and she pulled herself together still trying holding back laughter. Ari sighed before he took a few more steps towards the main entrance of the resort and the rest of the team followed suit.
They all stopped still, looking at the ram-shackled building in front of them, the words Red Sea Diving Resort were descripted in fading red paint above the large, archway shaped door. Hannah removed her shades, looking at it, and she let out a loud breath from where she stood at the end of the line they seemed to have formed, next to Max.
“It sure doesn't look like the brochure.”  she said, and everyone turned to look at her, Max giving a small huff of laughter. After a second or so, Ari moved to the trucks to retrieve their luggage and the rest of them followed suit before they headed towards the entrance. Ari wrestled with the wooden trellised screen doors before he gave one a harsh push and it fell forward off its hinges, crashing to the floor sending up a cloud of dust and sand. He turned to look at them all, giving a shrug before he headed inside. They all followed and Hannah cast her eyes around as they hit the main room. All the window screens were shut, leaving it quite dark despite the bright late afternoon sunshine outside. Chairs and tables were piled haphazardly around the edges of the main room of the resort, various other pieces of furniture dotted around.
“It needs a little TLC.” Ari said, turning to the team.
“Nice.” Rachel chuckled.
“Oh, yeah?” Sammy snorted, pushing the shaded lenses on his glasses up as he looked around with a laugh. “What a dump.”
Hannah watched as Jake moved to open one of the sets of doors which led out onto the beach and instantly the place was flooded with light. She glanced at Max who smiled and they followed him out onto the beach.
“This is paradise!” Jake sighed. Max looked at him, incredulously, but Hannah had to admit, outside it was beautiful. A secluded cove of The Red Sea right was in front of them, the sun bouncing off the blue water, waves softly lapping at the shore.
Max pushed his glasses back up his nose and headed away to his right, Hannah following as they walked round the side of the resort and up a small boardwalk which led to a small pier of sorts.
“Well, hello, gorgeous…” she heard Max say. Hannah turned to see him examining a spear gun which was leaned up against the glass windows in front of him. She rolled her eyes.
“Your obsession with sniping weapons is worrying.” she arched an eyebrow.
He turned to face her with a grin before he tucked his shades into his shirt and picked up the fishing spear, holding it like a gun, checking down the sight target. The two of them stepped further round and Hannah frowned as Max stopped under a wooden shelter of sorts and the pair of them spotted the large, silver fish hanging from the structure. It had been beheaded, the head laying on a grill, and Max turned to look at her.
“This fish is fresh.” he frowned.
“Don’t eat it…” Hannah said instantly, teasing him about his obsession with food.
“Don’t eat…it’s fucking raw.” he rolled his eyes at her.
“Never had sushi?” she shot back.
“Don’t care for it much…” he mused before they both exchanged a glance, the seriousness of the fact that the fish, was indeed newly caught sinking in as Max turned to call back to the resort.
“Hey, yo, this fish is fresh!”
Ari who had been walking along the shore, heard Max’s call, along with Rachel’s which informed everyone she had found a newspaper from this week .He stopped and glanced back into the resort before he opened the door into one of the bedroom huts. Taking a glance round he threw open the wooden window screens, turning his face away as the sand and dust from outside blew into his face. It was then a familiar smell hit his nose and he glanced down to his left and saw that there were cigarette butts in an ashtray. One was still smoking slightly.
And then, someone jumped up from behind a pile of furniture in the corner of the room and shot out of the door. Ari turned and sprinted after him, yelling for him to stop and calling to the team. They all joined him, sprinting around the corner where Ari stopped at the sight of a group of what they could only assume were locals.
“Hello.  My name...” Ari began, before he whipped off his sunglasses, figuring they might trust him more if they could see him eye to eye “My name's Guy Thomas.  I'm the new owner of this hotel.”
The locals didn’t speak, and Hannah noticed that the woman at the front, adorned in bright yellow local dress was glancing at Max nervously.
“Max, lower that thing…” she said softly, as he had the spear gun raised.
Ari turned to face him and nodded, gesturing with his hands “Come on.”
“Sorry.” Max said gently, as he slowly lowered his weapon.
“Abu Hamid.” the man at the front of the group spoke to them.
“Hello.” Ari greeted him kindly.
“What the hell's going on?” Sammy spoke gently through his smile.
“I think we just met the local staff.” Ari said softly, looking round at everyone.

A Cup of Sugar? Part 3
(Wow this story had a great reception! Please find parts one and two here: https://thedeaconj.tumblr.com/post/624650236299821056/a-cup-of-sugar-parts-1-and-2)
That day, Sophie was so thankful not to be in work. The last two days wore on her so heavily that she could afford to get up a little later. Still, she did have some errands to run, and she still had to keep herself in shape. Sophie rose out of bed in her vest top and undies, ready to face the day ahead of her. Usually she’d put on her exercise clothes, but then realised the new benefit of her minimalist fashion style. She could simple exercise as she was, the clothes were going in the wash anyways, so why not? Starting off with her stretches and yoga, she found it as usual, sweaty work in her apartment. Her mind went to the thought of Mark’s cooling ceiling fan, how it span around and around, and made the whole place a lot cooler. Maybe it was thinking of the cool breeze, but the rest of her exercises seemed to fly by. She even admired her body a little in the mirror afterwards, a sense of pride washed over her. Sophie was on the verge of C cups, not that she was ever bothered too much by the size of her breasts. She also wasn’t too bothered about her butt, although today she gave the mirror a little wiggle, thought how cute it looked and then turned sheet white. What was up with her? Cute? Showing off in the mirror? She was independent, and proud, but was she really so vain to start ogling herself in the mirror? Sophie shook her head, she took a shower, then decided on her outfit for the day.
Sophie decided to face facts, city life was hot, so she’d need to start dressing better for it. Her vest tops would no longer be hidden under jumpers and coats, although she wasn’t the type to have skirts or shorts available. Given it was her day off too that meant no heavy work boots, the thought of them on her feet was so uncomfortable to her. Instead, in a rather bold choice, she opted for flip flops. She also picked a grey vest top out, as she knew the forecast for today was hotter than usual, this was coupled with her usual choice of black jeans. Sophie ate a quick breakfast, then headed out of her apartment to get some errands done. She headed out and bumped straight into Mark.
They both fell back; Sophie was quick to apologise.
‘It’s fine Sophie don’t worry about it,’ he said. He looked her over and gave her an approving smile.
‘So, you’ve finally started to dress for the heat?’ he asked.
‘Well, I guess I have to adapt to city life sooner or later,’ Sophie said, she couldn’t help but enjoy him smiling at her. She supposed it was because he was a smart man, so she must have been doing something right to make him happy.
‘That’s true, Sophie, did you have any plans for lunch today? You mentioned it was your day off yesterday and that you’d be running around with errands, so if you feel yourself getting hungry please feel free to stop by,’ Mark said.
She frowned, when did she mention that yesterday? Still, he was just being nice to her, she wished she could give him something in return, when she realised, she actually could.
‘Your screwdriver! I totally forgot it’s still at mine, I’ll pop in and get it,’
Sophie went to turn, as Mark placed his hand on her shoulder. It felt firm, slightly cold, but soothing on her bare skin. A few days ago, if Mark did this she would have screamed at him, but today, it didn’t seem to bother her for some reason.
‘Please Sophie, you can drop it off when you stop by for lunch,’ he said.
Sophie looked back at him, he was smart, so maybe he knew what he was talking about. She’d usually grab some fast food from somewhere while out and about running errands, so she could save a little money too. She relaxed a little, not really noticing Mark’s hand was still on her shoulder.
‘Yes, alright, I’ll see you then,’ she couldn’t help but smile a little. Sophie then went off to do her errands, wondering in the back of her mind what lunch would be.
After a while, Sophie found herself wandering into a place she didn’t think to see herself at in a million years. It was a clothing store, with a focus on pink, cute, girly clothing. Why was she here? It wasn’t like she could afford to get new clothes, and this wasn’t her style, was it? She was saving a bit of money though by not eating out, and there was no harm in browsing. For some reason, the place reminded her of Mark, no doubt because of that hot pink sofa. She couldn’t help but giggle when thinking about it, it may have been bought for him as a joke, but she could tell he kept it because it was so comfortable. It felt nice to lie on too, to immerse herself on that bed of pink, like Sophie was now as she wandered the store. That’s when she spotted it and couldn’t help but giggle some more. A skirt, the exact same colour as the sofa! It would be down to her knees, so still fairly conservative, but it was a little billowy looking, like it could spread up so easily. She checked the price tag out of curiosity, to find it was cheap! Sophie considered it for another moment, was she really going to buy it? It would be a big leap in her style, but maybe that’s what she needed. She could even wear it over to Mark’s later, as a sort of in joke. Sophie took a deep breath and took the plunge, a few moments later she walked out of the store, happy in her purchase.
Sophie headed back into her apartment, her stomach already beginning to rumble. She’d head over to Marks soon, but first she would put away her other shopping, and go get the screwdriver. After this, Sophie opened her bag from the clothing store, only to find an addition to the skirt in there. A pair of pink, cotton undies with a white frill. How’d they get in there? Were they in the bag by mistake, did they come with the skirt? Either way Sophie was pretty sure she didn’t buy them. She pulled them out of the bag, inspecting them. They were quite small, a good deal different to the underwear she’d usually wear. They did however, go well with the skirt, that she had to admit. Plus, they seemed to have been free. Maybe it was a sign, she thought, that her new way of fashion was already paying off. Sophie changed into both the skirt and underwear, once again admiring herself in the mirror. She did a little spin, seeing how this lifted her skirt up, and gave flash of her upper legs. Then, she lifted the skirt all the way up. Only to see how far it would need to go up to be revealing of course, she wasn’t checking out how she looked in her new undies. Even when she turned around and bent over, shaking her butt as she did. She couldn’t help but laugh at herself, why shouldn’t she after all, just because she was independent, didn’t mean she had to take herself so seriously.
Sophie knocked on Mark’s door, as per usual he was right there, right on queue. Sophie held up his screwdriver, which he grabbed off her, but not before noticing the skirt.
‘It’s a joke gift from me to me, it matches your sofa,’ she said.
Mark chuckled, which caused Sophie to giggle as she walked into the apartment. She took a deep breath in, smelling something wonderful cooking.
‘I’ve got a fondue going, it should be ready soon enough, in the meantime please take a seat Sophie,’ Mark said.
He was wearing an apron over his usual clothing today, a novelty one with “Kiss the chef” written on it, Sophie smirked at it, and wondered how often that really worked. She took a seat on the sofa, and gasped. It wasn’t the footrest that got her by surprise this time, but just how good it felt on more of her bare skin. The fan was at a lazy pace today, but the cool, smooth feeling of the sofa more than made up for it.
‘Still not used to the footrest huh?’ she heard Mark call out.
‘Something like that,’ Sophie said, she writhed against the sofa, but then came to her senses a bit more.
What would Mark think of her if he saw her doing that? He’d think there was something wrong with her, so she stopped. Instead, she got a bit more comfortable, as Mark asked her about her errands.
‘Say, did you get that skirt at the place on Second street?’ he asked.
‘I did, how’d you know?’
‘I’ve walked past there before, it’s quite a change from your usual style, but I think you wear it well,’ Mark said.
Sophie did blush slightly, there was something about him complimenting her that felt good, but then he was so much older, it felt a little wrong to her.
‘Thank you Mark, I figured why not try out something new. Although I guess it does make me look young, which I already do anyways,’ Sophie replied.
As Sophie relaxed, she lay back fully on the sofa, uncaring about if her skirt hiked up a bit. She also kicked off her flip flops onto the floor beside her, although she wasn’t sure why. She looked up at the lazy, spinning ceiling fan, totally chilled out, as she smelt that wonderful cheesy smell getting closer. Mark placed the bowl of fondue on the side table, her view of the ceiling fan was replaced by a view of Marks face. Sophie smiled at him, was it just her imagination, or was he looking a little better these days? Maybe he’d scrubbed up for his gathering, which she really was thinking of going to.
‘That place down on second street is quite the walk though, especially in flip flops. If you like you can lie back and I can just lower the food into your mouth, no effort needed,’ he said.
Sophie thought it sounded a little weird, but it did smell so good, and he was right, the walk had taken it out of her.
‘Well, alright I suppose,’ Sophie said.
Before she could think on it much more, a piece of bread covered in fondue was in her mouth. It was truly delicious, the taste felt incredible as it coated her mouth, a warm wonderful feeling that flowed throughout her. Mark fed her a few more pieces, as he saw her pupils dilate, her jaw go slack, and her entire body relax.
‘Are you getting full Sophie?’ Mark asked.
‘Uh huhh’ was all she could say.
Mark walked around the other side of the sofa, he looked over Sophie as she spread out on it.
‘Why not sit up on the sofa for a moment Sophie, I have an idea,’
Sophie did as she was asked, as Mark sat alongside her. Her head was swimming, she didn’t know why or really care why though.
‘Such a long day already Sophie, and it’s only lunchtime. Thankfully, I have a way to fill you back up with the energy you need,’ Mark said.
‘You do?’ Sophie asked, she stared directly ahead, but in her mind saw the ceiling fan.
‘Yes, just let me direct you for a moment, now please, lay back, head in my lap,’ he said.
Sophie hesitated for a moment, wasn’t this just a little inappropriate? But, still, she’d need the energy for the rest of the day, and what was the harm in it? Sophie fell back onto Mark’s lap, instead of looking up into a ceiling fan, she now looked up into those eyes. Those lovely brown eyes. He stroked her hair with one hand.
‘You have such nice hair Sophie, have you considered experimenting with it for your new look? Maybe a nice, cute blonde,’ he said.
Yes, a nice cute blonde. That would complete her look. Mark was such a smart man.
‘That would be nice, yes,’ Sophie said and smiled up at him.
‘Very good Sophie, now just relax, I’m going to get you up on your feet again shortly,’ Mark said.
With one hand, he grabbed just under her chin lightly, and held her head in place. With the other, he placed his thumb just on Sophie’s forehead. She offered up no resistance to any of this.
‘Now, fix your eyes up on my thumb Sophie, follow it for me,’ he said.
‘Okay,’
As her eyes locked onto his thumb, it began to move on her forehead in a slow, circular fashion. His other hand stroked just under her chin, which was such a comforting feeling. Sophie's eyes rolled around as she tried to keep up on following the thumb, the whole motion made her feel so dizzy. Despite what Mark said she wasn’t feeling full of energy just yet, if anything this was relaxing her further. The stroking under the chin didn’t help in that regard either, as his touch just felt so soothing on her face.
‘So, how’s your change of style going Sophie?’ Mark asked.
There was something about his voice now, she wasn’t sure if it was because of his thumb on her forehead, but it was like she heard it inside her own mind, as if she’d thought it, not even heard it.
‘Okay, I’m enjoying it so far, I don’t have much money though for new clothes,’ she said.
‘That’s a shame, if you need money for it then I’d be happy to help you out, was it just the skirt you bought then today?’
Sophie squirmed, the idea of him giving her money went against everything she stood for. She couldn’t just take money; it was a step too far. Everything else she could chalk up to neighbourly hospitality, even this strange but incredible feeling from Mark’s technique to get her up and running again.
‘I couldn’t take the money, and yeah just that,’ Sophie paused. She wasn’t sure why she told him what she did next.
‘Well, except I got home, and there were some undies in the bag too,’ she said.
She turned red, what was she saying? It was all getting too much, whatever his thumb was doing was making her forget herself, forget that he was this older man with her laying on his lap. He must think I’m some sort of pervert, she thought. Instead, Mark just chuckled, which led to Sophie giggling.
‘Please, I can see talking about this is a little strange for you, but it’s perfectly natural. My advice and what I’ve talked about hasn’t steered you wrong so far, has it Sophie?’ Mark said.
No, it hadn’t, he was right. His hands felt so very good and his words echoed in her mind, which made it so much truer.
‘No it hasn’t,’
‘Very good Sophie, so please continue what you were saying,’ he said.
It was if her usual filter, her usual, natural inhibition was gone, as the words spilled out of her.
‘Well at first I thought about going back and returning them, but they just looked so cute. I had to try them on, they fit really well too, like my butt looks great in them,’ she said.
Mark smiled down at her, as he sped his thumb up. Sophie’s eyes could barely follow as the room span around her, she couldn’t really see, just relying on Mark’s voice to guide her along.
‘I bet it does Sophie, very good, body confidence is important, especially in such a hot city like this, there’s no harm or shame in enjoying how you look,’ he said.
Sophie felt compelled to agree, he began to talk some more but she started having trouble grasping a lot of it. No doubt it was about something smart, so she could just let it drift into her head. As her body went limp, she felt something by her lips, it was Mark’s thumb. Her lips parted as she welcomed it into her mouth, sucking on it hungrily. She didn’t know why she did it, just that it felt good, it felt right. Her eyes fully rolled up, she went entirely limp and fell into darkness.
‘Okay and up you get Sophie!’
Sophie sprang from Mark’s lap to her feet, blinking her eyes. It worked! She felt so full of energy, so full of life now. She bent over to pick up her flip flops, wiggling her hips as she did, blissfully unaware of the show she was putting on for Mark. She slid them back onto her feet, and turned back to face him. Sophie looked again at the “kiss the chef” apron, she couldn’t help but smile. It was a silly apron, how funny would it be if she did kiss Mark, if she let his smooth hands explore the rest of her body like they did her face? She shook her head, snapping out of that daydream. It was a strange one for sure, but it was just her overactive imagination.
‘Wow I feel so alive and vibrant, thanks so much Mark!” she said.
‘Of course, anytime Sophie, although I did have an idea, if you’d hear me out,’
Sophie nodded her head eagerly, Mark’s ideas were good ideas, ones she should listen to.
‘You didn’t seem comfortable with the idea of me giving you money outright, but how about a bit of paid work? My place is still a bit of a mess and I’m useless at cleaning, so I could pay you for cleaning up the living room,’ he said.
Sophie looked around, the place was already looking better than it was, it wouldn’t be too much hard work to clean the place up a bit. She was free tomorrow anyways, so why not do it then?’
‘Sure Mark, I can come by tomorrow to do it,’ Sophie said, as she smiled at him.
‘That’s fantastic, well I’ll see you then!’
Sophie was a little torn, she did want to stay with Mark for a bit longer, maybe to learn more from him, and he had surprisingly good style tips for a guy his age. Still, she’d get to see him tomorrow anyways. Sophie headed out of his apartment and back to her own, surprised by just how long she’d been in Mark’s as she read the clock on the wall. Time flies when you’re having fun, and Sophie did have a lot of fun there. With the remainder of her evening she decided to model some of her old clothes. To decide what to throw out, what to keep, what looked good. Some things she took a scissors to, cutting it down to size, to suit the city more. As she tried on each outfit, she couldn’t help but admire herself. She was just being body confident, which was important, she was a cute young lady who wanted to show herself off. Sophie giggled, wasn’t she just thinking how she weren’t vain? Maybe a little vanity was okay then, it was part of her new style after all.
That night, as Sophie got ready for bed, she thought her vest top seemed awful warm to be wearing to sleep. Instead, she decided to just sleep in her new undies. Tomorrow she’d be off bright and early to clean Mark’s apartment. She visualised it now, her being bent over dusting something, or on her hands and knees, her butt waving side to side, the sophisticated and sorta handsome Mark, being a gentleman and trying not to look. Sophie giggled, it was a silly fantasy, but maybe she was a bit of a silly girl, and soon her daydreams faded, as she drifted off to sleep.

Chapter Six: Into the Woods.
"Tell us, Lady," Fred said, handing a cup of hot chocolate to her. "How does it feel to be the silly one for the first time in your life?"
"What are you talking about?" She grinned, making room for him to sit next to her.
"You said it was a stupid bet," He explained. "We won."
"I feel quite alright, thank you," She raised a brow. "Beginners luck, that's what this is. Let's make this time the first and last, okay? I'd hate to see you losing all you have on stupid bets."
"We were only trying to win a bit of money so we could restock our shop."
"I hope you find a way to keep it safe," She sighed. "I love your Mum, but you deserve a chance..."
"Don't worry about it, Mum's always angry about something, we're used to it by now... Harry's been having a rough day, hasn't he?"
"Why?"
"First Cedric being all friendly with you–"
"He was being polite–"
"–And now he's been glaring at me all afternoon," Fred continued, unbothered. "I'm telling you this in the kindest way possible, just tell him already."
"Tell him what?" She hid her face behind the cup, feigning innocence.
"That you like him," Fred rolled his eyes, "C'mon, look at him! He looks miserable!"
Harry was indeed looking at them, but it was hard to read his expression. When he noticed her staring, he turned quickly towards Ron and Bill.
"Maybe he's just upset because..." She shook her head. "I've been hiding things, that's all."
"Yes, exactly," Fred insisted. "Your feelings being right at the top of the list."
"You don't know shit!" Mel hissed quietly, losing her temper. "Don't even think about going around telling everyone that I like Harry!"
"Hey, keep the knives out of this!" Fred pushed his chair away. "I'm just trying to help!"
"You're not helping!" She looked around the table to make sure no one was listening. "Don't worry about me, okay? Harry's fine, and I'm even better."
"Sure..." He frowned.
There was a loud thud that cause her to jump. Ginny had fallen asleep and accidentally dropped her mug, spilling hot chocolate everywhere. Mr. Weasley took this as their queue to go to bed, cleaning the mess and sending the girls to their tent, Emily going with them. Mel climbed to her bunk bed, her mind still thinking of what Fred had said. She couldn't pretend anymore. For the first time, she had the feeling that maybe what her friends were telling her was true, maybe Harry liked her.
If that was the case though, then what about Cho? She could see it, whenever Harry looked at the Ravenclaw, she could see that he liked her. Could he be crushing on both girls? Was that even possible? She only liked Harry... But that was wrong too! She couldn't like Harry! Their friendship was the longest she'd ever had and she couldn't risk it. She just couldn't. Not even... not even if Harry liked her back.
They were just confused, Harry and her. They were young, and didn't have enough experiences to be sure that their feelings were real, throwing all he meant to her away for a silly crush? Not in a million years.
She'd barely managed to fall asleep when someone shoved her agressively out of bed. Mel scrambled to her feet and looked around, her eyes trying to focus on the person standing in front of her.
"Mum?" She grumbled. "What's goin' on..?"
"Put on your shoes and get your wand," Her mother demanded. "Don't leave the group."
"Leave the group?" Mel inquired.
"Hurry!" Emily insisted, throwing her a robe so she could cover herself.
Mel, Hermione, and Ginny ran out of the tent with Emily following close behind. When her eyes grew used to the fire light, she was capable to see the nightmare unfolding in front of them.
High above them, floating along in midair, four struggling figures were being contorted into grotesque shapes. It was as though the masked wizards on the ground were puppeteers, and the people above them were marionettes operated by invisible strings that rose from the wands into the air. Two of the figures were very small.
More wizards were joining the marching group, laughing and pointing up at the floating bodies. Tents crumpled and fell as the marching crowd swelled.
They were setting everything on fire, and people was struggling to ran out to a safer spot. As the crowd approach their tents, she finally recognize the victims.
Mr. Roberts, the campsite manager. The other three looked as though they might be his wife and children. One of the marchers below flipped Mrs. Roberts upside down with his wand; her nightdress fell down to reveal voluminous drawers and she struggled to cover herself up as the crowd below her screeched and hooted with glee.
"What is going on?" Mel asked in horror.
"Come on, girls," Mr. Weasley guided them towards Harry and Ron, who were standing a few feet away. "Don't break the group..."
At the same moment, Bill, Charlie, and Percy emerged from the boys' tent, fully dressed, with their sleeves rolled up and their wands out.
"We're going to help the Ministry!" Mr. Weasley shouted over all the noise, rolling up his own sleeves. "You lot — get into the woods, and stick together. I'll come and fetch you when we've sorted this out!"
Bill, Charlie, and Percy were already sprinting away toward the oncoming marchers; Mr. Weasley tore after them. Ministry wizards were dashing from every direction toward the source of the trouble. The crowd beneath the family was coming closer.
"Be careful," Mel told her mother before watching her ran towards the group of masked wizards.
"C'mon," said Fred.
He grabbed Ginny by the hand and started walking towards the trees. The rest of the group followed.
They all looked back as they reached the trees. The crowd beneath the Roberts family was larger than ever; they could see the Ministry wizards trying to get through it to the hooded wizards in the center, but they were having great difficulty. It looked as though they were scared to perform any spell that might make the Roberts family fall.
The colored lanterns that had lit the path to the stadium had been extinguished. Dark figures were blundering through the trees; children were crying; anxious shouts and panicked voices were reverberating around them in the cold night air.
She held onto her own wand, ready to attack in case they needed to. The silence was making her more and more anxious, without saying a word she reached for the closest hand -Harry's hand- and held onto it, feeling slightly calmer. Then Ron's yell made her jump, and she turn hot on her heel, her wand pointing towards the sound.
"Ron?" She asked.
"What happened?" said Hermione, and she heard Harry yelping after crashing against her. "Ron, where are you? Oh this is stupid — lumos!"
"Tripped over a tree root," He grumbled, standing up and brushing off some dirt.
"Well, with feet that size, hard not to," said a voice behind them.
Mel then turned her wand towards that direction. Draco Malfoy was standing there, leaning against a tree like it was just another normal night.
"Why don't you go to hell, Malfoy?"
"Language, Weasley. Hadn't you better be hurrying along, now? You wouldn't like her spotted, would you?"
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"Granger, they're after Muggles," said Malfoy. "D'you want to be showing off your knickers in midair? Because if you do, hang around... they're moving this way, and it would give us all a laugh."
"Hermione's a witch," Harry growled.
"Have it your own way, Potter," Malfoy replied calmly, wearing a nasty grin. "If you think they can't spot a Mudblood, stay where you are."
"You watch your mouth!" shouted Ron.
"I could seal it for you, if you find it difficult to achieve on your own," Mel added, her wand still pointing at his face.
"Never mind, guys," said Hermione, Ron tried to stepped closer to the other boy but Hermione seized his arm to stop him.
There came a bang from the other side of the trees that was louder than anything they had heard. Several people nearby screamed. Malfoy chuckled softly.
"Scare easily, don't they?" he said lazily. "I suppose your daddy told you all to hide? What's he up to — trying to rescue the Muggles?"
"Where're your parents? Out there wearing masks, are they?" Harry spat at him.
"Well... if they were, I wouldn't be likely to tell you, would I, Potter?" Malfoy smiled.
"Oh come on," said Hermione urged them forwad. "Mel, put your wand down, let's go and find the others."
"Keep that big bushy head down, Granger," sneered Malfoy.
Mel tried to replied but Hermione's free hand grabbed hers and dragged her away from the boy.
"Come on," She repeated.
"I'll bet you anything his dad is one of that masked lot!" said Ron once they were out of ear-shot.
"Well, with any luck, the Ministry will catch him! Oh I can't believe this. Where have the others got to?"
They continued walking for about five minutes when a girl approached, she talked to them quickly and anxiously.
"Où est Madame Maxime? Nous l'avons perdue —"
"Er — what?" said Ron.
"Nous ne savons pas," Mel replied, inmediately regretting her awful accent. "Uh– sorry..?"
"Oh..." The girl eyed her up for a bit before turning back to her group of friends and shaking her head mumbling, "'Ogwarts."
"Beauxbatons," Hermione explained to her.
"Sorry?" said Harry.
"They must go to Beauxbatons," said Hermione. "You know... Beauxbatons Academy of Magic... I read about it in An Appraisal of Magical Education in Europe."
"Weird name for a School..." Mel said.
"Oh... yeah... right," Harry nodded. "Hogwarts isn't exactly nice or normal either..."
"Is anyone going to ask how the bloody hell does she know French?" Ron asked, staring at her. "What was that?"
"Uncle Lupin lived in France for two years when I was younger, we used to watch the telly and the movies were almost never dub, so I had to read the subtitles, I learned a little but nowhere near enough to be an expert. Wouldn't be surprised if it turns out I told her to fetch a toilet for me..."
"It sounded good enough to me," Ron raised his eyebrows. "I don't know why I'm surprised, you're a Dumbledore after all..."
"Shut up, Bilius."
"Don't call me that!"
"It's your name, isn't it?"
"You know I don't like–"
"Shut up," Hermione groaned. "I can't stand bickering and a walk on these terrifying woods at the same time, please..."
"Fred and George can't have gone that far," said Ron, carefully pointing his wand forward and illuminating the path.
"Ah, no, I don't believe it," Harry exclaimed beside her. "I've lost my wand!"
"You're kidding!"
"Maybe it's back in the tent," said Ron.
"Maybe it fell out of your pocket when we were running?" Hermione suggested.
"I don't remember seeing your wand when we left the tents," Mel tried to recall the moments before running into the woods. "Perhaps you left it inside your room?"
"Yeah," said Harry, "maybe..."
Mel took his hand again, this time so she was sure he remained close and out of danger, considering he was the only one without a wand.
A rustling noise nearby made all three of them jump. Winky the house-elf was fighting her way out of a clump of bushes nearby. She was moving in a most peculiar fashion, apparently with great diffi- culty; it was as though someone invisible were trying to hold her back.
"There is bad wizards about!" she squeaked distractedly as she leaned forward and labored to keep running. "People high — high in the air! Winky is getting out of the way!"
And she disappeared into the trees on the other side of the path, panting and squeaking as she fought the force that was restraining her.
"What's up with her?" said Ron, looking curiously after Winky. "Why can't she run properly?"
"Bet she didn't ask permission to hide," said Harry.
"You know, house-elves get a very raw deal! It's slavery, that's what it is! That Mr. Crouch made her go up to the top of the stadium, and she was terrified, and he's got her bewitched so she can't even run when they start trampling tents! Why doesn't anyone do something about it?" Hermione replied heathedly.
"Well, the elves are happy, aren't they?" Ron said. "You heard old Winky back at the match... 'House-elves is not supposed to have fun'... that's what she likes, being bossed around..."
"It's people like you, Ron," Hermione continued with anger, "who prop up rotten and unjust systems, just because they're too lazy to —"
"Mione, I think that what Ron means," She interrupted. "Is not that they enjoy being treated poorly, but surely not all of them live like Dobby. Besides, Winky is just dedicated to her work. If she really wanted to be free, bet she would've followed Dobby's path years ago... right?"
"Let's just keep moving, shall we?" said Ron, and continued walking.
They followed the dark path deeper into the wood, still keeping an eye out for Fred, George, and Ginny. They passed a group of goblins who were cackling over a sack of gold that they had un- doubtedly won betting on the match, and who seemed quite unperturbed by the trouble at the campsite. Farther still along the path, they walked into a patch of silvery light, and when they looked through the trees, they saw three tall and beautiful veela standing in a clearing, surrounded by a gaggle of young wizards, all of whom were talking very loudly.
"I pull down about a hundred sacks of Galleons a year!" One of them shouted. "I'm a dragon killer for the Committee for the Disposal of Dangerous Creatures."
"No, you're not!" yelled his friend. "You're a dishwasher at the Leaky Cauldron. . . . but I'm a vampire hunter, I've killed about ninety so far —"
A third young wizard, whose pimples were visible even by the dim, silvery light of the veela, now cut in, "I'm about to become the youngest ever Minister of Magic, I am."
Harry then erupted with laughter. Mel tilted her head, squinting to see his face clearer. Harry grinned and leaned closer to whisper at them.
"Stan Shunpike, he's a conductor on the Knight Bus. He's as close to be the Minister as I am to become a house-elf."
Mel let out a giggle, she knew who that boy was, and she was about to reply when Ron spoke -more like yelled- at no one in particular.
"Did I tell you I've invented a broomstick that'll reach Jupiter?"
Mel and Harry shared a look, and bursted into a laughing fit while Hermione grabbed Ron's arm and pulled harshly.
"Honestly!" She rolled her eyes. "Harry! Stop laughing and help!"
The boy, still grinning, took a hold of his friend's arm and pulled him forward.
After another fifteen minutes of walking without having any idea of where they were going, Harry stopped to look around.
"I reckon we can just wait here, you know. We'll hear anyone coming a mile off."
A man emerged from the shadows, causing Mel to scream.
"Who's that?" It was Bagman, and he looked disoriented. "What are you doing in here, all alone?" They looked at one another, surprised.
"Merlin's beard..." Mel sighed, clutching her chest.
"Well — there's a sort of riot going on," Ron explained, looking at his friends with uncertainty.
"What?"
"At the campsite... some people have got hold of a family of Muggles..."
"Damn them!" Without adding anything else, he disapparate.
"Not exactly on top of things, Mr. Bagman, is he?"
"He was a great Beater, though," said Ron. "The Wimbourne Wasps won the league three times in a row while he was with them."
"Yeah, and it seems he took several bludgers on the head during that time, didn't he?" Mel raised her eyebrows.
They made their way to a clearing and stopped. Ron pulled out Krum's figured that he'd bought before the game and let it walk around the grass, Mel and Harry sat down next to him and watched it move around in circles.
"It was a beautiful day," Mel sighed, hugging her knees. "It's a shame it ended like this..."
"Not everything's bad," Harry responded, supporting one arm on his right leg.
"What do you mean?"
"Well, at least we're not hurt," He explained, "And once this is over, it'll be a great story back in School."
Mel nodded, a vague smile on her face. For some reason, now that they were there, her mind had drifted to the events of the game.
"Before the game started," Harry said, like he'd read her mind. "While the veela... Were you really angry about it?"
Mel stared at him, watching his smirk -a smirk, out of all the smiles he could've shown to her while asking that question!- and the way he seemed to know the answer without her saying a word.
"Are you trying to make me angry now?" She asked bluntly. "Because it's not working. There are better ways and you know it."
"Okay then, answer the question."
"Do I find upsetting that my best friend was all set to die in order to impress some dancers? Yes, of course. I can't believe you fell so easily!"
"Hey, that's their magic!" He defended. "If they weren't good at it, their existence would be a failure!"
"If it were up to me, I'd let them have miserable, good-for-nothing lives so you wouldn't have to risk yours and die like an idiot just because of a pretty face!"
"Even if the pretty face was yours?" He inquired humorously.
Mel stuttered a few incoherent words before huffing and facing forward in order to avoid his eyes.
"Especially if it's me."
Harry laughed again, but this time, when he spoke he sounded nervous.
"It's not like you could avoid it, if I had to I'd do it and that's it. Save you, that is."
Mel was about to argue that she was perfectly capable of stopping him when Hermione spoke up.
"I hope the others are okay..."
"They'll be fine," said Ron.
"Imagine if your dad catches Lucius Malfoy," Harry said. "He's always said he'd like to get something on him."
"That'd wipe the smirk off old Draco's face, all right," said Ron.
"Those poor Muggles, though," said Hermione. "What if they can't get them down?"
"They will. They'll find a way."
"I'll be an Auror once I'm older," Mel said out of the blue.
"I thought you wanted to be an explorer," Harry replied. "Or a Magizoologist?"
"I could be all," She shrugged. "An Auror that explores during her missions and saves all the magical creatures she can find..."
"Being an Auror it's a big deal," Ron raised a brow. "You have to be smart and all... Though you're already a brainy."
"Bugger off," She rolled her eyes. "Really, imagine being able to stop the bad guys and save lives while doing so! Protecting wizards and muggles..."
"Mad, though, to do something like that when the whole Ministry of Magic's out here tonight!" said Hermione, bringing her back from her daydream. "I mean, how do they expect to get away with it? Do you think they've been drinking, or are they just —"
A few branches broke behind Hermione's back and they froze in place. Mel stood up, waiting.
"Hello?" Harry stood up, then walk past her and peered into the trees.
"Be careful, Glasses..." Mel said, holding her wand tightly.
"Who's there?" Harry insisted.
Five seconds passed, and just when she was about to ask Harry to step back, someone yelled:
"MORSMORDRE !"
A green lightning shot up a few feet ahead of Harry's figure, Mel sprinted towards him and pulled him back, standing in front of him with her wand ready.
"What the — ?" Ron stood up abruptly, his eyes fixed on the sky.
It was a colossal skull, comprised of what looked like emerald stars, with a serpent protruding from its mouth like a tongue. As they watched, it rose higher and higher, blazing in a haze of greenish smoke, etched against the black sky like a new constellation.
"Who's there?" Harry called over her shoulder again, trying to move further. Mel raised her arm and stopped him.
"This isn't right," She mumbled. "I can feel it."
"Move!" Hermione was pulling both of their sleeves.
"What's the matter?" Harry asked in confusion.
"It's the Dark Mark!" Hermione grunted, unable to move both of them. "You-Know-Who's sign!"
"What?" Mel frowned, looking up again.
"Voldemort's — ?"
"Come on!"
Harry forced her to move, but they had only started walking when multiple apparitions caused them to stay still. She felt the hairs at the back of her neck raising at the same time Harry yelled 'DUCK!'
The four fell and covered their heads, she heard the people around them screaming "STUPEFY!" and the unmistakable sound of spells flying everywhere around her.
"Stop!" A voice roared through the fight. "STOP! That's my son!"
She felt something heavy on her shoulders and when she lifted her head, she found Harry's arm holding her closer to him.
"Ron — Harry" Mr. Weasley panted, finally stepping into the light. "Mel– Hermione — are you all right?"
"Out of the way, Arthur," Mr. Crouch stepped closer as well. "Which of you did it? Which of you conjured the Dark Mark?"
"We didn't do that!" said Harry, finally letting go of her.
"We didn't do anything!" said Ron. "What did you want to attack us for?"
Mel stood up hastily, rubbing the dirt off her clothes.
"Do not lie, sir!" Mr. Crouch was pointing his wand directly at Ron. "You have been discovered at the scene of the crime!"
"Barty," whispered a witch in a long woolen dressing gown, "they're kids, Barty, they'd never have been able to —"
"Where did the Mark come from, you three?" said Mr. Weasley quickly.
"Over there," said Hermione shakily, pointing at the place where they had heard the voice. "There was someone behind the trees . . . they shouted words — an incantation —"
"Oh, stood over there, did they?" said Mr. Crouch, turning his popping eyes on Hermione now, disbelief etched all over his face. "Said an incantation, did they? You seem very well informed about how that Mark is summoned, missy —"
"Sir," Mel replied in a soft tone, almost as if talking to a baby. "We're fourteen..."
"We're too late," The same witch from before replied. "They'll have Disapparated."
"I don't think so," Mel jumped a little at hearing Amos Diggory's voice. "Our Stunners went right through those trees... There's a good chance we got them..."
He walked over to those trees, a few gasps were heard.
"Amos, be careful!"
"Yes! We got them! There's someone here! Unconscious! It's — but — blimey..."
"You've got someone? Who? Who is it?" Mr. Crouch demanded.
Mr. Diggory came carrying a small figure, she immediately recognized it as Winky.

"you're really going, right? tomorrow for karasuno’s reunion?" sugawara's voice is hopeful. patting my hand as a sign of encouragement, his eyes are sparkly and his eyes are always kind. you can never reject sugawara. he's always been a really kind senior to me, or probably he just got this effect on people.
"i don't know, sugawara. i really want to meet all of you, i also miss the all of the seniors- but i don't think i'll be brave enough to face him." letting out a sigh, i shifted in my seat, fiddling with my own cup of hot chocolate that i got earlier before bumping into sugawara in the queue.
this is what i'm scared of the most.
encountering karasuno volleyball club members randomly, and not being able to accept their invitation whenever they're hanging out. and it's all because of him.
"how long has it been? since you talked to kageyama?" sugawara asked carefully, trying to look my eyes as if saying his name would make me explode. well it actually would, one day i'll finally explode whenever i hear his name ring in my ears. i shook my head, blinking repeatedly at the bittersweet sound of his name.
"3 months? more than 3 months? i didn't count. i was too hurt to count, i think? i don't know how to explain it but it hurts me really good." i let out a bitter chuckle, looking up at the bright sky while avoiding sugawara's gaze on me, and yup. he’s worried like he’s my own mother.
"how about the others? you still talk to-"
"yes. yes, yes, i still talk to all of them. yachi and yamaguchi actually went out with me yesterday to watch some movies, and tsukki texts me often since we're in the same course together. you know? i was surprised that tsukki would join something art related in college. our first year of college is ending and he manages to shock me with his random behavior” sugawara laughed at my remarks about tsukki, nodding his head as we share the missing pieces in our lives ever since college started.
ever since i started drifting away from people.
i finally agreed on going to karasuno's reunion tomorrow.
sugawara wouldn't stop pestering me about it, not to mention hinata and nishinoya who were also pestering me through texts and instagram which kinda makes my head hurts. it's not like i want to forget all of my high school friends, but since most of my memories with them also include kageyama in it, i just want to forget all of the memories i had with him.
he was my high-school lover. at least we were like lovers. that’s what i thought, lovers. until college started and he started hanging out with another pretty girl in his class, until he invested his time in someone else rather than me.
it hurt me like crazy. the day i caught him lying to my face saying that he’s going to be at the library which is very unlike him and i found him accompanying the girl to the art supply store- it was my favorite art supply store too.
my breath hitched at the thought of him with someone else, grunting and stuffing my own face with my pillow- trying to block out my own thoughts which is 100% not working.
i hate sleeping like this.
i hate closing my eyes but my head is still loud with my own thoughts, and it wasn’t positive. it’s always filled with heartbreak, with pictures of him leaving me without explaining why. without telling me what i did wrong.
what did i do wrong?
i arrived at daichi’s house, bringing 2 bags full of snacks and hangover cures, just in case something went crazy later.
“hey! you’re here!” hinata were already shouting, greeting my by giving me a hug. nishinoya followed after, and i was greeted with daichi and asahi’s warm smiles. and it indeed felt like home.
“i’m glad you came. how are you?” daichi asked after embracing me with a hug, not forgetting to mess with my hair.
“surprisingly well! you?”
“going to be messed up knowing that thesis is coming up” he said making me laugh, patting daichi’s back, following all of the boys to daichi’s backyard where yachi and kiyoko are already grilling meat and vegetables.
“hey, sit here!” inviting me to sit beside her, yachi gave me a glass of fruit punch, nudging me lightly.
“you’re finally ready to meet him” kiyoko stated, making me flustered and gloomy at the same time, which resulted me shrugging my shoulder.
“i don’t think i am, i just miss all-“
my words are cut off when i see kageyama walking to the backyard, settling beers down on the table and apologizing to everyone that he’s late. am i getting all of this lovestruck feeling again?
“yeah, you’re not ready” yachi shook her head, panicking and grasping my hand. kiyoko only laughs a little, preparing a glass of drink for kageyama.
kageyama approached our table, obtaining his drink from kiyoko and bowing to me and yachi. leaving soon afterwards, and our eyes didn’t even meet. i didn’t even get the chance to greet him.
“i wanna go home” i whispered softly but enough for yachi and kiyoko to hear it. biting my own lips, i fiddled with my fingers— not paying attention to everyone’s stories, and i didn’t even realize that all of us had formed a circle to talk better.
“how about you, y/n?” tanaka asked, nudging me since he’s sitting beside me and yachi. raising his eyebrow at me who’s confused.
“how about what?”
“college”
“oh.. oh! umm i’m actually doing fine-“ my sentence got cut off by tsukki who chuckled loudly.
“yes, fine crying whenever she’s working on her assignment” he teased, resulting in me throwing a piece of green bean to his head, laughing for the first time tonight.
“really?! didn’t expect that from you!” asahi also raised his eyebrow at me, and before i got the chance to answer, tsukki already answered for me.
“yeah. we’re in the same literature class and the same art course. she’s always talking about coping with sadness and heartbreak. once i caught her crying because we were talking about a volleyball setter who fell in love with someone on the crowd— she’s probably still crying and thinking about kageyama, but she’s a strong one.” my eyes widened, kageyama who’s sitting across from me seemed like he don’t even care, listening to tsukki’s snarky story and looking at me uninterested. i sighed softly, trying to reason with tsukki’s remarks.
“no, actually. i’ve been watching and studying about romance novels and movies. i find it fascinating how love works, sometimes it’s beautiful and sometimes it hurts like hell. there’s no in-between. i find it odd that people love romance novels, it hurts my head.” i laughed bitterly while locking eyes with kageyama, but laughing when i saw nishinoya hitting tsukki in the back of his head after.
“how about you, tanaka? i heard you’re going to finally ask kiyoko out again. ready to get rejected again?” i teased, nudging him back.
and at least it was fine.
it was fine for a couple of minutes.
“hey.” his voice was too familiar. i know his voice unconsciously.
“hi”
fuck. i hate it. i hate this. my voice is softer and sadder than what i intended it to be and once again, i’m wondering why yachi told me to get the drinks at the fridge when it’s stacked back there in the backyard.
“need some help?” kageyama asked, opening a small carton of milk which made me want to smile. he’s not a drinker, he didn’t even drink that much when we know that we’re already legal to drink.
milk will always be his favorite.
“i don’t know why yachi sent me here, we still have a lot of drinks back there”
“can we talk, then?” kageyama asked, already finished with his small carton of milk, throwing it to the trash.
i nodded hesitantly- following him to daichi’s garden, which is actually quite far from the backyard, giving kageyama and i the privacy that we need.
“how have you been, y/n?” he asked after we both sat down in the bench, and i can only sigh. i don’t have any comments.
“i’ve been good”
“not really according to tsukki’s story”
“he’s making it up, tob- kageyama.”
“we both know he’s the most honest person in this house right now”
kageyama chuckled bitterly as well, i didn’t even dare to look at his eyes- instead i just hugged myself, trying to warm myself up due to this atmosphere and the damn weather that’s oddly cold.
“how about you?”
“i’m doing great with college. national team is doing amazing as well, and i got offered to play in europe” kageyama smiled, nodding his head slowly, giving me short glances every so often.
“are you going, kageyama?” i asked softly, trying to convince myself that he’s not leaving me again for the second time.
“yes, we’re leaving in 2 days.  we’ll be in europe for 10 days only, though. but i might get offers and matches if we win. i get to take another person too, and i have someone already” and i feel like i’ve been suffocated.
i nodded, closing my eyes for a short time while looking at the sky.
“i’m happy for you, really” i smiled, this time i feel like freezing too and kageyama seemed to notice- frantically taking off his denim jacket, draping it on my smaller body.
“why didn’t you tell me you were cold, stupid?” kageyama huffed, pulling me closer to him and giving me a hug in attempt to warm me up.
i didn’t want to hug him back, but it was an automatic response from me. i was grasping his black shirt and i didn’t realize i’m crying already. fuck. i bottled it up, and it’s my time to explode.
“hey, y/n? what’s wrong?”
“please don’t leave me again” i whimpered quietly, tightening my hug on him.
i’ve lost all of my sanity and all of my guards are off tonight.
“what-“
“i can handle you breaking up with me but i can’t handle having you completely gone from my life especially if you have someone else, tobio. i really can’t. i’m happy for you i really am, i’m proud of you for achieving your dreams and going overseas for matches- but i don’t wanna lose you, tobio.” calling him tobio for the first time in months made me relieved but also in pain.
“you didn’t give me a chance to speak-“ i pulled away from the hug, wiping my own tears, standing up from my seat.
“i don’t think i could ever hear it. i shouldn’t have come today, i shouldn’t have go. i thought meeting you would resolve my feelings for you but no, tobio. i can’t get over you, i will never get over you, and it would be better if you didn’t say that you’re leaving. i can’t- i love you too much“
“stop it, y/n” kageyama also stood up, hugging me tighter this time, the sound of our friend’s laughs are faded since all i can hear is his breathing and his heartbeat.
“i’m glad if our feelings are still mutuals”
i stopped crying, looking at kageyama with my teary eyes, he wipes it with his thumbs. i can’t say anything right now.
“i’m sorry. it won’t be enough because i know i was so stupid and you deserve better than me. i’m sorry for not spending my time with you as i used to, i’m sorry for ignoring your texts and calls whenever you’re worried about me, i’m sorry about all of my wrongdoings. i’m sorry. i’m really sorry.” it’s kageyama’s turn to divert his eyes from my gaze.
“why didn’t you say this sooner?”
“i’m too scared of losing you too. we both have the same fear. i didn’t know what’s better for us.” kageyama fixed my hair, putting a strand of hair behind my ear.
“you’re really a different one, tobio” i smiled, tears still staining my eyes- but kageyama is always there to wipe it away.
“y/n, can i kiss you?” kageyama asked, licking his lips while holding my face with both of his hands.
i nodded my head, putting my hand on his hands, feeling his lips on mine after months of heartbreak and pain. after thinking that the both of us are never meant to be. after being tired of our fears.
“and i hope you don’t mind that i looked through your schedule and that your semester break already started, thanks to the courtesy of smart tsukki, because we’re going to europe.”
i smiled, shaking my head and pulling kageyama to kiss my again, transferring his warmth to my body.
“i don’t mind. did you tell tsukki? i’m surprised he wants to help you.”
“yes. he suggested this, actually. and everyone knows, this reunion is actually my plan. i know you wouldn’t stand hinata and nishinoya pestering you into going, i’m also glad sugawara bumped into you, he can bother you too and it worked.” kageyama laughs, giving me another peck on my lips.
“you’re evil”
“y/n?”
“yes?”
“i love you. this is the first day that i will love you recklessly and carelessly, and i’ll continue to love you forevermore” kageyama’s words shocked me, earning a smile from me and a kiss.
“and i as well, will love you forevermore, tobio kageyama.”
and he’s mine. again.

Coffee Kisses
Sliding in rather late with this one! my muse deserted me and I’ve written this in one go. So, for the @a-monthly-rumbelling June prompt “a secret admirer” Someone is leaving Gold coffee...
Blog Link: https://earlyrisingwriting.home.blog/2020/06/28/coffee-kisses/
Just a minute” Gold called out, alerted by the bell jangling against the door of his shop “Feel free to look around” That would give whoever had entered his shop time to glance at a few price tags, decide they couldn’t afford anything and disappear again, leaving him in peace to finish the watch repair he’d been working on over the past few days. It was a fine timepiece, with a proper old fashioned wind up mechanism. He would be sorry to see it go.
Nobody replied to him, if he hadn’t heard the door close he might have thought he was imagining things. Maybe it was the wind. Setting down his tools Gold decided to go check the door anyway, make sure it was shut properly. He pushed himself up using his cane feeling his bad leg complain at being left in one position for too long.  Wincing and mumbling to himself he stepped through into the main shop.
“Where did that come from?”
On the counter top, right next to the till where you couldn’t fail to see it was a take away coffee cup  from Granny’s Diner, that on closer inspection actually had coffee in it. A double shot espresso if he wasn’t mistaken. Gold didn’t drink coffee often but when he did he liked it hot and strong. He took a tentative sip. This one was perfect. Except he hadn’t ordered coffee and Granny did not do delivery “Folks can fetch their own damn coffee. I’ve got enough to do” was her opinion.
Gold held the cup up and turned it side to side looking for some clue to his benefactor. His eyebrows shot up into his hairline when he found it. A perfect red lipstick kiss mark.
Over the coming weeks more mysterious coffee cups appeared in his shop, always at a time when it was quiet and on days he hadn’t managed to get to the Diner himself. For the life of him though he could not figure out who it was. Eventually he decided to confide in one of his few friends. He hoped he wouldn’t regret it.
“Ooh! You’ve got a secret admirer Gold! I wonder who the poor deluded soul could be? We could stake out the coffee shop, you know you can count on us to be discreet”
“Jefferson I’m not sure that’s such a good idea…” but Gold’s protests were lost in Jefferson’s grand plan, that sounded more like something from a Bond film. He looked pleadingly at the man’s daughter for help. Thankfully she obliged and Gold made a mental note to put an extra $5 in her birthday card this year.
“Maybe we should use a process of elimination first Dad? Who does Mister Gold know who would wear that colour lipstick?”
“Brilliant idea Grace! Now come on Gold, get that little black book of yours out and give us some names”
“I don’t have a black book, and even if I did I’m not showing you”
“The Mayor wears red lipstick” mused Grace but I think it’s a darker shade.. what about her mother?”
“Cora? No we’re just friends and leaving coffee cups isn’t her style”
There was a minute or two of silence when a look of horror crossed Jefferson’s face “Not Milah…?
Gold went pale “God I hope not..”
“No.. no it wouldn’t be her”
Grace picked up the cup, staring thoughtfully at the kiss mark “Mister Gold, I’ve seen this lipstick colour before…”
~
It was a simple enough plan so why did he feel so nervous. All he had to do was go into the diner, make an order then sit at one of the rear booths. That would afford him a clear view of the place and more importantly the door. Then he just had to sit and wait to see if his admirer – he still couldn’t believe it - made an appearance. Standing in the queue he made what he hoped was a casual glance round. All clear. His eye was drawn to a lone cup sat on the counter waiting to be cleared away. There was a lipstick mark on the rim, the same colour as the mark on his cups if he was not mistaken. Gold panicked, she’d already been in! Was she on her way to his shop now? Should he leave the diner and hide round the corner? He was about to do just that when he spotted a set of keys next to the cup. If she’d left those, she’d come back to fetch them..
“I said can I take your order Mister Gold? I don’t have all day to wait for you”
Gold snapped back to reality, ordered a double espresso on impulse, handed over too much money and almost fell over three chairs in his hurry towards the back booth. Granny shook her head.
Not ten minutes later the door to the diner flew open
“Granny have you seen my keys? Oh there they are! Thank goodness! I’d forget my head if it wasn’t screwed on. I did pay you didn’t I? Right then thanks!”
The door banged shut behind her. Gold sat with his mouth open.
~
It took a full day, several cups of tea and a large whiskey for Gold to eventually get his mind round what had happened. Grace had been right. Now he had to do something about it. He wasn’t the most confident of men when it came to dating. There hadn’t really been anyone serious since Milah had left. Now Bae was all but grown up it was about time he did something for himself. But what? The next morning the answer presented itself, whilst searching a drawer for something unrelated to his conundrum he found an old lipstick of Milah’s. Before he could talk himself out of it he hurried off to the Diner.
Belle French, chief and only librarian in Storybrooke was knee deep in books that needed to be put back on the shelves. She really needed to ask the Mayor if she could advertise for an assistant. Much as she loved her job it was too much for one person. She heard the door open and close, the bell on the desk rang once.
“One moment I’ll be right with you!”
Silence followed. She sighed. If it was the high school kids playing silly beggars she would not be impressed. She stepped over the assorted boxes and made her way to the circulation desk.
“Oh!”
There right in the middle was a take away cup, that on inspection had tea in it. Hot tea, with milk and two sugars. On the side facing her was a red lipstick kiss mark. She looked round but couldn’t see anyone, and she hadn’t heard the door close.
“Mister Gold? Is that you?” she asked rather nervously.
“Aye it is” he stepped out from behind one of the free standing bookshelves, looking smart as always including lovely red lipstick
Belle couldn’t help but giggle “It suits you”
“Not as well as it suits you” he smiled.
“How did you know it was me?”
“I had a little expert help on lipstick colour”
Belle blushed “I hope you didn’t mind.. I just didn’t have the nerve to speak to you”
“I never mind free coffee”
They both laughed. Belle handed him a tissue, indicating his face. He wiped the remainder of the lipstick off.
“I wonder if..” they both began at the same time
“Ladies first Miss French”
“No no after you”
“Right” Gold took a steadying breath “Would you like to accompany me to dinner tonight? Tomorrow night? Any night?”
“Yes!”
“Which one?” Gold asked slightly confused
“All of them. And it’s Belle”
“Fraser. Shall I pick you about 7 o’clock?”
“That would be lovely”
Gold nodded and made to leave
“Oh Fraser”
He turned to see Belle pointing at his face “You missed a bit”

Familly tradition XD
He knew he screwed. He didn't know what exacly, but there was no doubt that Sarada was mad at him. And if it was just a simple quarrel he would probably find a way to solve it. The problem is that his fiancée didn't yell at him, no ... The matter was much worse. Sarada has not spoken to him for 4 days, and she has effectively avoided him for 72 hours, which is a considerable achievement given that they shared flat together. Every morning she get out before he wake up and came back when he was asleep. She avoided him in the store, she didn't go to Tunder Burger, she didn't even go to her favourite cafe. She also suppress her chakra so that he could not locate her. In fact, the only trace of her presence was the bento that she left him in the kitchen every day so that he would stop eating burgers for lunch. However, no matter how good in hiding she would be, there was a place where she had to be every day from 8:00 to 16:15 not counting the days when she had missions. That is why today, having bought her favorite Latte Machiato with caramel, he entered the headquarters of Hokage, passing the main corridor, turned left and lined up in a queue of applicants to the Konoha Civil Affairs Office. Fortunately, there were only three people in the queue. He waited only 15 minutes, knowing that pushing between waiting people would mean suicide... Moments later he entered a small office, with one window, a desk, a computer and a cupboard full of colorful binders. Sarada was sitting typing data into the computer. She was wearing a white shirt and a red pencil skirt, her hair was loose, and the monitor screen reflected in the glasses of her glasses.
“Good morning how can I help ...” she started, but when her eyes fixed on him, her kind expression changed into a typical Uchiha-poker face.”I'm at work, you can't just ... “ she fell silent when he showed her his number in line.
"Don't you think it's a bit ridiculous that I have to chase after you all over the village?" He asked, walking over to her desk.
"This is already a family tradition, maybe our children will be playing hide and seek through the room ..." she said irritably, coming back to filling in the data on the computer.
Boruto looked at her for a moment in complete shock. His brain hung on one part of her speech.
"Are you already thinking about our children?" He asked, blushing.
Black-haired girl froze in motion as surprised as embarrassed by his question.
“I didn't mean that ... U ... Uh ... I mean ... Em ...
The blond could not resist a smile seeing the blush appear on the face of his fiancee.
“Heeem? What about, for example?”  He asked, leaning over her, resting his hands on the back of her chair. Shit put on THESE red high heels today.
"N-nothing special ..." She replied looking into his eyes. Kami ... How did he miss her eyes, black as coal, expressing so much emotion. Her face and lips... Is she wearing lip gloss?
"I'm curious, what did you dream of a boy or girl?" He asked with a feisty smile, moving closer.
"Boy and girl ... At least two ..." She replied quietly, looking sideways.
"At least?" He asked, trying not to laugh.
“But without exaggeration! No more than five ...”he looked shocked at Sarada's now red face, although he had known her all his life, he would never have thought that the girl dreamed of a large family. Not that he bothered him, but it seemed difficult to reconcile that with the career path she had chosen.
"Don't look at me like that, being an only child is boring ... I've always been jealous of you and Himawari ..."
“But you know it takes a lot of ‘effort’ ” he replied with a jaunty smile, pulling even closer.
"Pervert!" She shouted and with a firm (and a little too strong) move pushing his face away. “I'm still mad at you “
"I know this" he answered, rubbing his forehead, "But you have no reason ...”
"I have no reason?" Her tone of voice showed him that there would be problems, "I read your last mission report!"
Blue-eyed felt a chill shiver down his back. He fucked up.
"Y-you couldn't! Report of rank B mission and above are checked in the Hokage office not here!" He said the first thing that came to his mind.
"Yes, but the charges for treatment outside the village are billed here," she replied, threatening her eyes.
He swallowed, it was really bad.
“You weren’t careful, you downplayed your opponent, and lost your kidney and you were unconscious for 3 days! In addition, it apparently wasn't important enough to let me know ...”
"I knew how you would react," he replied quietly.
The only thing he got in response was a hurt look of black-haired girl.
“I mean ...” he sighed.
"You don’t trust me?" She asked without looking away from him.
"You know it's not true," he replied, squatting next to her chair so that their faces were at the same height.
"You are an idiot," she replied, correcting her glasses. "You should be more careful!"
"But I'm your idiot” he smirked.
Sarada looked at him in resignation.
"Don't do that again," she said, gently stroking his cheek.
"I promise," he replied, embracing her face and get closer. But when he closed his eyes, instead of the anticipated feeling of her lips, he felt the pressure of two fingers on his forehead.
"Next time," he heard the black-eyed voice.
He sighed in resignation.
“I don't understand Uchihas! And when is this next time supposed to be?” He asked frowning.
"Certainly not at my office," she said, drinking the coffee he had brought her.
He wanted to answer something, but a loud knock on the door interrupted them. The owner of Sharingan straightened up immediately, remembering the flood of paperwork that was ahead of her.
“I think my visit time is over ...” the blond sighed waving her goodbye. ”See you at home ...”
...............................................................................................
I should have written the next chapter of Arranged Love but I got this idea and all I wanted to do was write a sketch but somehow I write it all.
No zdarza się wypadek przy pracy XD
