Other characters about Arle.
Scaramouche:
Tumblr media
Childe:
Tumblr media
From what I've seen she does seem unhinged but in a, uhm... reasonable and tolerable way? What she does seems like necessary cruelty. Both guys are not exactly reliable narrators but I'm still curious if there's something about her that we will find out later. Or maybe her crazyness is a performance for colleagues and nothing else.
There's the Commedia dell'arte trope of Arlecchino serving two masters, but if she simply wants to save Fontaine it's a beautiful and relatable goal, there's nothing wrong with that. Alternative theory: she's loyal to Narcissenkreuz, not Fontaine.
(Narcissenkreuzers are everywhere, just like Rosenkreuzers irl. consider me a conspiracy theorist)
I'm also fascinated by the things she says to the House of Hearth kids. "True understanding can only be found, not sought" to a neurodivergent girl trying to fit it. "No one needs self-satisfied concern" to a guy with a savior complex. These are all not things intended for tying people to her, these are things to make them stronger and set them free. Their loyalty to her comes from a place of gratitude, not fear, they weren't coerced into it. Before the siblings' appearance I contemplated whether she could be a yandere, sweet to her followers and horrible to everyone who dares abandon her. This is something more interesting.
Siblings' lines about her.
Lynette:
Tumblr media
Lyney:
Tumblr media
Also Lyney mentioning somewhere in the 4.1 quest that she has a very unique view on what can and cannot be sacrificed.
Freminet:
Tumblr media
Also she personally saved each one of them.
Their loyalty is so beautiful and genuine, and so sick and twisted at the same time. I want to see more of this.
So far she seems like a character who values survival over everything with a bit of a "strict asian parent" mixed in. Ruthless but not crazy. I wonder if it changes in next patches.
(I have an undestroyable headcanon that Childe has good intuition about people. he would have loved someone acting like a strict dad and he would respect a focus on survival. if he doesn't like her it means she is something else entirely)
I also wonder what happens to kids who are unfit for military/spying. I mean, there's Freminet but he's an engineer and a diver. Would a simple cook do all right in HoH?

Other illustrations from "A trip to Alagadda" The Four Lords + Rat Man (scp 049).
From my knowledge, this is a very non-canonical depiction but hell this is the scp fandom I can do whatever I want.
My thought process: as scp 035 (Dyo) is a Greek theatre mask, and the king closely resembles the hanged king's tragedy it would be fun to make all the Lords a depiction of a different Western theatre style.
Anguished Lord- pretty self-explanatory he's a porcelain ancient Greek theatre mask, in the style of Dionysus henceforth the grapes and golden leaves, and of course, our drama queen needs hair *Dramatic Hairflip*
Odious Lord- despite his Tudor garb he wears a Roman theatre mask. I originally wanted to portray him in a Japanese Noh theatre mask, but being a pitiful sad European theatre kid who eats raisin porridge every morning, has never smelled a chilli pepper and will die in the sun, I am a Western theatre kid and would feel rather strange portraying what I know very little about. Also, I would want the mask to have a wider arrangement of colour but Alagadda's colour palette does not allow for that. Later with a deeper dive into Noh theatre history and culture, I may redesign him but for now, we have Bacchus.
I like to think he has terrible beef with the Anguished Lord.
Mirthful Lord- Commedia dell'arte was a rather silly part of theatre culture, with many gags, improvisation and silly jokes, feels perfect for the Mirthful Lord. Pantalone is often one of the masters of the Commedia, greedy and erratic, hmmm. His other garb is that of a jester, so funzies, and because of the shape of his mask he taunts 049 because of their "likeness".
Diligent Lord- A white Carnival of Venice mask from my understanding the most accurate depiction of all the lords, just funny to draw and also 👁️.
Pierre- No explanation needed, however hohohon.

Have you decided what your fav characters’ favorite plays are?
NO I'M TOO OVERWHELMED LMAO HELP!! Okay but here are some thoughts about what sort of theatre I think they enjoy:
Lestat: Obviously since he got his start doing commedia dell'arte I think he'll always have a soft spot in his heart for those old comedies. (Honestly, I think Lestat is one of the only vampires who enjoys "lowbrow" comedy and I love that for him.) The style of traveling street theatre Lestat would've been performing during his time as Lelio was largely improvisational, and though it moved into a more scripted form over time, I think Lestat is an improv queen. I also get all giddy and happy thinking about his reaction to the fact that commedia dell'arte is still performed today! Like, I did a production of Servant of Two Masters in college lmfao it's still viewed as one of the foundational tenants of theatre to this day and I think that would really tickle him.
He's also a Shakespeare fan but historically speaking we know Lestat would've had to have read French translations which of course weren't impossible to come by, but given all of Lestat's circumstances in his early life (poor, uneducated, etc) it's definitely worth noting that he would've had to have worked hard to get at Shakespeare. I think it's so funny that his favorite play in canon is Macbeth and that he sees himself as Macbeth, whereas Louis and Claudia totally saw him as Lady Macbeth (which is why I wrote a lil ficlet about it LOL)
Okay LASTLY I also just want to say I think Lestat loves loves LOOOOVE restoration comedy and the comedy of manners that was a little before his time but just really focused on like. Outrageous comedy and satire. Lestat likes to laugh, okay!! He loves Moliere just as much as he loves Shakespeare! Tartuffe and She Stoops to Conquer are definitely plays he can quote by heart.
Armand: Shakespeare, yes, but very specifically: Jacobean Revenge Tragedies. These were a lot darker, a lot more hardcore and angsty (as the title suggests!). One day I'll have to get Armandblr's input for some meta and psychological background as to why Armand would be obsessed with plays where the protagonist is wronged so egregiously that they go down a path of murder and (gruesome, often cannibalistic) bloodshed and rage-induced hysteria that ultimately ends in their own demise. But for now I'll just say that I feel it in my bones. I think he staged The Spanish Tragedy at least a few times at the Theatre des Vampires.
Also I think he'd definitely be into theatre of the absurd, especially in his Devil's Minion era! He goes through phases where he really leans into the existentialism and finds it amusing and thought-provoking, but sometimes it also majorly fucks him up (similar to Lestat)
Louis: He's a Romantic at heart, and certainly he loves the classics, but we've already been over Shakespeare so I'll say that I also think Louis has a soft spot for the American canon. Think Tennessee Williams, Arthur Miller, Eugene O'Neill, etc. He's a modernist girlie, and I think those plays would be a good guiding light into understanding modern America for Louis. I think Louis often sees middle class America as a fascinating subject to study (rather than, like, a reality that real people live), and I think modernist plays are really good at toe-ing the line of like, being deeply humanizing and beautiful and tragic if done right, and also still being somewhat performative and maybe even a bit artificial and contained behind a fourth wall. I think that dichotomy would be fascinating to Louis. His favorites would be A View from the Bridge and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.
Marius: Unfortunately there are like 0 Roman tragedies that survived in writing, but we know that they existed and were actually slightly different than Greek tragedies in that the characters actually voiced more of their internal psychological conflict, and also apparently the playwrights were influenced by the development of new rhetorical theory, so a lot of the writing incorporated like public persuasion. So I do think Marius would've been into those but listen I also happen to know for a fact that Marius' favorite play is Shakespeare's Coriolanus. He told me himself. I just read over the wiki synopsis to refresh my memory and I'm losing my mind over this line: "The two tribunes condemn Coriolanus as a traitor for his words and order him to be banished. Coriolanus retorts that it is he who banishes Rome from his presence." like PLEASE that's so petty I love it. Real talk though Marius loves a good political drama and look I know I've brought up Shakespeare a lot in this post already but no one is doing it like him, especially with the Romans!!
Daniel: he's a theatre of the absurd queen <3

A deep analysis on Pantalone
Since his first appearence on genshin on Winter's night Lazzo, Pantalone has become an obsession of mine, which not only made me look further on some Commedia Dell'arte scripts, but also sucked me into a whirlwind of theories regarding the possibilities for what part his character will play in the game.
I'm warning you, this post will be big, but also written in a hurry. There is a chance nothing will make sense, but there's also a chance that I'm not being as crazy as I think I am. After all, I guessed right the first time, when I said here that Dottore and Pantalone could be partners, and it ended up being true.
So fellas, specially Pantalone nation, enjoy this dose of hyperfocus.
The Pantalone archetype in Commedia Dell'arte:
Let's start with a simple question; what is a Pantalone?
I know this question may sound strange at first, but we have to keep in mind that the characters in the original commedia had their main comedic features making their way to be transformed into classic archetypes that still are present in other characters way more famous to us. We may know a lot of Pantalones in fiction, even if we never thought about this connection before! Let me show you some of them:
Tumblr media
The "Pantalone archetype", as you can see, is in a nutshell "old men that love money". However, there is often a very important factor that must be considered when identifying them among comical rich characters; they often have a past in poverty, or at least weren't always as rich as they are now, and that is the cause of paranoid and grumpy behaviour. Another common trope for them (nowadays) is their hidden feelings, commonly having one or more family members that they love more than their wealth. That explains why Mr. Burns is the only one up there that doesn't match that new criteria, despite being obviously a Pantalone archetype from head to toe.
There is a reason for that. When we hear a joke, would you find it funny if you couldn't understand it?
Pantalone was created to mock the richer classes at the time (and it's important to remember, the era was marked by the bourgeoisie starting to get a sit among the higher classes.) but at the same time, he was created to represent Venice. We have a double joke here: in his name, and in his personality. The joke in his name is because the animal that represents Venice is the lion, so, to represent it, he was suppose to ''put/plant the lion''(pianta leone in italian) in the places he went to, being it other cities or colonies. Contracting this, we have ''Pantalone'', at the same time that it means Pants. The main joke of his personality is that although he is very rich, he lives almost miserably. It doesn't seem to be a popular portrayal that he was part of a noble family or always rich; he was innitially a merchant, and he is a symbol of the self-made man. That past in poverty is what gives context to why he is so stingy and obsessed with his money. And people loved it. Well, we still do. In fact, the most famous version of his portrayal is not focused on how powerful or cunning he can be, but in this pathetic and grumpy man that could be having a wonderful life, instead, he is too concerned about spending a single penny, and ends up being miserable. All to keep his status as rich. This is funny because we can still understand it, we still know very well what they were mocking.
That is why Pantalone is one of the strongest characters in the commedia. This exact stereotypical behaviour ended up becoming timeless.
More than that, it slowly became more and more a famous archetype to create characters that people end up sympathizing a lot with once they see their pasts. And why that? Time passes, and now we have families being middle class; not rich, but not miserably poor. The picture changes a bit: Pantalone became less a figure to represent rich people being cruel, and more a figure that can be understood; that is ''just like us'', a figure that still have a good heart deep down. The message being: "anyone can become a Pantalone one day, but it can change". (if they are properly traumatized into being gentle to others, like our man Ebenezer Scrooge).
Or even, a person that got blinded by power. And nothing good happens when a person that learned to hate the world and it's people gets power. They learned that the powerful ones can do as they please with vulnerable people like them, and what is sweeter for the oppressed than being the oppressor?
With all that in mind, let's continue.
The Pale Flame Set:
Tumblr media
Genshin really went hard with the "rich man with a tragic past" trope for him.
So, we have here a man that feels so forgotten by the divine, so miserable and powerless, that he started to feel enraged at the gods and ready to declare war. It's important to notice since now: It's not about the money for him, it's about the power that comes with it. Because money is a power that common humans should control, not the gods. The gods don't need it, humans need. He needs it. In the end, it's more about him than the rest, I'll talk more about it later.
But what more do we know about him?
To start, many things we can discover about him in game shows that he is not stingy like the more classic versions of Pantalone. For example, the Goth Grand Hotel was entirely reserved by the fatui delegation. When we ask Goth about it, he says that Pantalone was so generous in his offer that he had no choice but to comply with the demand. This shows that he has no trouble using mora to get what he wants if words aren't enough. To me, this is just a good example of someone shamelessly using his power.
Tumblr media
We see a similar indication of his "loose" fist on money when in Winter's Night Lazzo, he finds the idea of mourning for half a day absurd. Funny, even. In English, this is not very noticiable, but in Chinese, he sounds very passive-aggressive. He says that Pulcinella's values are ''more twisted than those of a banker like him'', and by that, unapologetically recognizing himself as a twisted person, considering that, right before, he was saying people say that the Northland Bank's true currencies are blood and tears (and cries of loss/wailing, in chinese). We haven't seen many harbingers speaking like this yet; this openly (or implicitly) sadistic.
Ok, Scaramouche was an asshole, Signora was patronizing, and Dottore is simply the cruelest character in the game yet, but I'm not talking about simply being cruel. There are types of cruelty. Signora never bragged about being cruel, neither was she sadistic. She acted violent with Venti for personal reasons, and was very diplomatic with the other archons. Dottore, too, acted very reasonable and calm in Sumeru, and even in the Zandik notes, he doesn't seem to enjoy the suffering of his patients and test subjects, it's just a natural part of the science for him. Scaramouche is the most similar one in that regard, but that speaks volumes by itself. He, too, was a very frustrated abused person wanting to feel like the abuser.
But there's more to it. In Liyue, when we ask Andrei about the Northland Bank, he says that the economy in Snezhnaya "have the brilliance and foresight of Master Pantalone to thank". Pantalone is regarded as a bold mind in economy, and therefore dangerous in many occasions. To start, we have Tartaglia's voice-over indicating his genius:
"Oh, now that guy has a head full of grandiose plans fueled by raw ambition. I don't understand a word he says once he starts talking about his theories… Eh, but as long as he keeps our cash reserves stocked up, I'm not complaining."
Then, we have Uncle tian tellilng us in Yelan's mission:
(...)"However, his "wealth" is not a mere question of how much Mora he has to his name. He has a very unique understanding of wealth… And what he's planning may very well shake the world to its core."
And finally, Scaramouche's voice-over cementing the point being built:
"Oh, the ninth-ranked guy. He's obsessed with the idea of "fair exchange," to the point of wanting to overthrow the natural imbalance between gods and humans. But, I guess it's just how ordinary mortals are like — it's easy for them to come up with pointless delusions. Honestly, it's nothing worth writing home about, just like how there's also nothing impressive about his abilities or choice of partner. Hmph. Anyone who chooses to work closely with The Doctor is sure to meet a nasty end."
Now, we can definitely conclude two things with all that people say about him.
He is very revolutionary and many are already aware that what he is planning will be groundbreaking.
He is ambitious enough to ally himself with a person openly known as destructive and abusive by the other harbingers themselves.
That leads us to the question…
What part will he possibly play in Genshin?
Let's put everything together: We have a character here that has a tragic past, is filthy rich, has revolutionary plans for the future, and apparently is…a bit fragile for a harbinger. What potentials does he have? What can be done with him?
Well, first, I think he will be a parallel to Ningguang.
By that, I'm not stating that I think he is from Liyue. It must seem very obvious for many, but let's not forget that nothing in game confirmed his nationality. Ever. We have to remember that many people were also super sure that Scaramouche would be electro because of ''what the game showed'', but in reality we never saw him using electro powers, we just assumed.
But by saying he will be a Parallel to Ningguang, I'm saying that both were very poor people that are now Teyvat's richest individuals. But while one managed to wake a vision solely by the force of ambition, the other still wasn't graced with one, even if his ambition is as big as (if not bigger than) Ningguang's. Not only that, their views on mora and wealth are very different; while Ningguang is content with things as they are now, Pantalone isn't.
Let's take a look on Wriothesley's signature weapon, the Cashflow supervision:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"We'll start by creating a new currency to replace the dependence on mora"
Hm...
"Nor shall the wealth of the Gods descend, to rescue the dignity of the poor from the feet of the rich."
I don't know about you guys, but I admit that when I first read Pantalone's pale flame piece I thought he was lowkey a radical communist acting as a capitalist(which I found neat, personally), but the Cashflow Supervision opened my eyes. Come on, I know it's not confirmed that the person speaking is Pantalone, but just look at it. He even uses the same analogy of arteries and blood!
Let's think about what is being said here.
He is planning on making a new currency, one that will wipe mora away from the picture. A good plan, if you ask me. And, do you remember? Zhongli told us once, in the end of the Liyue arc:
Tumblr media
This is the best opportunity Pantalone could ask for. As the Golden House ceases operation, the Northland bank can act. And I believe this is the reason Pantalone was trying to interfere with Liyuean politics in the first place, with Liyue being the economic capital of Teyvat, of course it's important to have someone that will be more open to agree with his ideas in charge, even if it was treated as a secondary matter to him.
But aside from that, that final sentence in Cashflow supervision really sticks to me. Again this sort of gleeful enjoyment with the power he will have. It becomes obvious that his main motivations behind the ''fair exchange'' between gods and humans isn't to make things better for anyone particularly. The rich will still be rich and the poor will still be poor. What he craves is to feel like a god in the end. To have the power to give and take, to be both feared and praised. And then deny the ones in need, just like he felt the gods denied him in the past.
Now, returning to the Pantalone archetype.
There are two routes for villains like that: 1, they simply die. 2, they change their worldviews in a very traumatic event.
I think Pantalone will die... I don't know, it's a hunch. I sure hope he doesn't, but I wouldn't be surprised if it happens. It's something in how Scaramouche hints he will have a nasty end too, or his dead anime mom hairstyle(kind of), or his white strands of hair... Or better, I think that he would be a good character to kill. Speaking about the narrative. He could die trying to bargain, or he could die while spitting the hardest truths possible to the traveler, maybe even making them reflect about the gods, the Archons, or what the Fatui want after all. I mean...we have now just 2 nations left, and the traveler didn't question anything about the harbingers' motivations?! Oh, please. Or maybe, if not the traveler, at least make the players symphatize with him. He is a very tragic character when you think about it.
If he lives, I think he is literally the best harbinger to make redeemable without it sounding ridiculous. Think about it: how many times a capitalistic villain was actually an anti-villain? I'll show you a very good example. Tumblr's lord and saviour himself:
Tumblr media
Yes.
Pantalone is the best character in genshin to suffer a deep realization of his own morals in the best case scenario. But if not, he can flee or die trying to defend himself in the most tragic way, screaming. Maybe cry, plead, remember memories of himself in the past, and in the game? I'm sure some people will feel bad for him if there's a cutscene like this, as we defeat him, even if the final conclusion will be ''well, he deserved it''.
With all that said, I will conclude all this by saying that it's amazing how I love this character when he didn't even show up in the game yet. He has so much potential that I honestly feel that he can't fail, no matter the narrative they choose. It's already impossible. If he ends up being pathetic in the game? I'll love it. If he ends up being a complete maniac? I'll love it too. What if he is cold and calculating? Also fits and I'll like it! What about if he lives or dies? I'm all in, I will want to see it. The only way he can fail in the narrative is by dying too fast like Signora, I mean, before we can properly know more about him in the game(not only through weapons or artifact sets), but even so, Signora's death is the reason we got the Winter's Night Lazzo in the first place. Plus, I don't think Hoyoverse would repeat the same event twice, specially when they are improving the story-telling method significantly.
So think of any possibility for him, seriously, and tell me, honestly, wouldn't it be interesting?

On Pesterquest, The Aftermath of The Homestuck Epilogues, and Why Homestuck Appeals To Us Still.
It's 1 AM, I'm exhausted and can't sleep, and I'm gonna bullshit a little. Ramble incoming, please read past the break if you still care about Homestuck, ignore if you don't, yadda yadda yadda.
Homestuck started out intriguing, it got better, it got wilder, and then it just kinda... broke under its own weight. And that was deliberate. Hussie delighted in this. The entire theme of the work in the end was breaking. Breaking the 4th wall. Breaking the premises. Breaking character arcs. Showing how stories break characters just by containing said characters.
Then came the Epilogues, and the Huss tried to break us. The fandom itself.
And... by all accounts... shit didn't work. We saw his clumsy attempt at satirizing the very nature of the fandom that we'd created (we, not he, as fandom is always the work of the fans, not the original creator of the work) and kind of collectively flipped him off.
Because we're Homestucks. We're already self-effacing to a ridiculous degree, but we know what works underneath us, we know what works underneath the plot, we know why we're here, and it's not for Hussie's masturbatory themes.
It was the worldbuilding and the characters.
That was it. The plot became negligible, because the creator didn't treat the plot with respect. We were just there for the character development, and when that went south (particularly in the Epilogues), we collectively said screw that, we're doing it our way. We wrote our own stories, our own epilogues, our own fanventures and AUs and fucking everything else imaginable.
We said, collectively, FUCK THAT, WE'RE PROTECTING WHAT WE LOVE IN THIS WORK BY TAKING IT FROM YOU.
Now, what does that sound like?
The ending of Pesterquest.
We're locking away OUR collective versions of the main cast, so they can be happy, or whole, or at least logically consistent, or at least not running in the opposite direction of the character development that everything SCREAMS they should have (looking at you, Jane).
So.
With that in mind, in 2023, what is Homestuck now?
What do we treat it as?
Commedia dell'arte.
It's a group of strong characters that can be put into almost any story. A nigh-universal cast, diverse and interesting, with built-in relationships and chemistry that can be savored or jettisoned as the plot requires.
But that's the kicker.
We have plots we care about.
And thus, we have transcended the original work. And with it we have helped the characters ascend. We have protected and guarded them, and they will not be remembered as characters from a webcomic that "used to be good".
Keep writing, Homestucks. Keep drawing. Keep spitting out incorrect quotes (which might as well be fucking correct at this point), scribbly comics, podfics, and fanventures that eclipse the original in all but word count.
Because, by all accounts, we're winning.
(Disclaimer: Yes, this includes the crew that are working on Hiveswap; it's pretty obvious they still Care About This Shit, and it doesn't share Huss' incredibly nihilistic late-game BS. I am including every HS creator EXCEPT The Waste of Space in here.)
That is all.

Hi ABL!
I was wondering if you had any posts about the use of sound effects in BL - the slide whistle for checking people out/boners simply gets me every time.
Perhaps it’s because I’ve watched so much American produced media and tuning out the same concept / soundscape since I’m so used to it.
I’m also always surprised that with this love of sound effects, there hasn’t been the classic echoing noise that’s heard across oceans when they open lube!
Anyway I love your blog! It’s been an incredible resource in appreciating BL in all its glory :)
Hi!
Why All those Sound Effects in BL RomComs?
Tumblr media
I don't have a specific post. I mention it in some of my guidance and warning posts about Thai and Taiwanese stuff in particular, in general I am not wild about it... but I have grown accustomed to it. It can certainly be off putting to new watchers.
One of the worst offenders was Lovely Writer. I think I docked a whole point off that show because the sound was SO intrusive and jarring within the context of the drama.
Tumblr media
These days the more comedy and the more pulp, the more likely and frequent the sound effects. Also Thailand, Taiwan, Vietnam, and Japan are the biggest offenders.
It's simply a comedic tradition. I think of it as similar to panto or commedia dell'arte. It's certainly true that a lot of ancient Greek and Roman plays likely had sound effects, as indeed would have Shakespeare. No to mention Kabuki theater. In fact, it's like throughout the history of stagecraft, sound effects were more common than not.
However, it's not particularly common or popular in American modern cinema out of Hollywood because it's associated with children's performances and clownishness. Like the voice overs, cartoon sound effects now are seen as somewhat clumsy and childish, not to say old fashioned.
There is an element of mistrusting the actors not to convey the correct emotion. Like the actors need audio help to do their jobs properly. But also like the audience can't be trusted to understand and so we feel "talked down to" by the sound effect. At least I do.
Yes I am aware this is a personal hang up.
Instead I think it's meant more as a communal nudge, like "we all together are responding in a certain way to this." Isn't it funny?
I also wonder if it's the influence of anime et al. (I'm really not an anime person partly because of the soundscapes. But then I don't like cartoons. Or Disney. Just not into kid's stuff. Never have been. Even when I was a kid.)
Here's someone else's perspective on Thailand's use of sound effects.
And Japan's.
I would say I'm accustomed to it now, but I still don't ever enjoy it. In fact, I often appreciate the "gritty" drama BLs like The Eighth Sense or I Told Sunset About You or Eternal Yesterday BECAUSE at least high angst means no sound effects.
Also less likely to sing.
Tumblr media
All hail dark BL's good side? The silver lining.
For the record and to show my "history of BL creds" I'm gonna give a shout out to the SINGLE best use of a sound effect in a BL-adjacent piece of media....
THE BEST BL SOUND EFFECT EVER AWARD!
drum roll please
THE POP SOUND
Made by Pree pulling out of Ram's ykw just just after railing him.
Series: What The Duck
(can't remember if it's season 1 or 2, and I will never rewatch that cray cray)
Country: Thailand
I am aware I am being crass but this moment was honestly, truly, hilarious. It's a very sexy scene and then that sound. So funny.
I expect a comment from those few of you who remember this moment.

oh im so excited to get confirmation on arlecchino's constellation/symbol
Tumblr media
i've seen it as common census that she is the third symbol on the right side, but i could argue that it could be pantalone instead
from the left side counter clockwise, these are my thoughts including further explanation
plague doctor mask - dottore
heresy symbol - pulcinella/capitano/pantalone (tentative)
jester mask - pierro
shaman's/healer's hand - capitano (tentative)
marionette - sandrone
narwhal - childe
crystalfly - signora
doll - scaramouche
hand holding an object - pantalone/arlecchino (tentative)
weeping dove - columbina
crucifixion nails - arlecchino/capitano (tentative)
color code: green - pretty damn confident, blue - confirmed, red - confusion
to begin, heresy is roughly defined as a belief or opinion that is contrary/unacceptable by religious doctrine, or public / official opinion.
about pulcinella from commedia dell'arte, its said "he almost always appears in contradiction." however, following that line of thought, capitano always fits the bill. "when the turks seem to be winning, he will join them. when they are driven off, he will change sides again and boast about his loyalty and bravery."
about putting capitano as the shaman's hand and/or the crucifixion nails, it's more of a vibe than anything lol putting him on heresy was only because of his counterpart's description in the play, nothing else. i have no evidence of anything. i am not ashamed. natlan pls come soon i need this man
about arlecchino as the crucifixion nails, my initial thought process also had to do with the play. arlecchino is also known as harlequin. the name harlequin came from another story about a "demon" or "devil." as i'm typing this now, i realize this does not make a lot of sense because the nails have to do with the crucifixion of jesus christ and big JC is not a demon. but he's the antithesis of them so i mean, idk
onto the ninth symbol - it appears to be a hand gripping an object. on first glance, i thought it was a vial, such as the ones used for the essential oils in game.
Tumblr media
however, it could also be an artistic rendition of a heart. this would be a direct reference to the pale flame set, in particular the sands piece, where it talks about pantalone's backstory. "the center of the world is a heart made of gold. [...] when the moment comes, that heart shall cease beating by our will alone."
considering that constellations are tied to one's fate, as a human man without a vision, his constellation could replicate that.
however, pantalone also tracks with the heresy symbol. as its speculated he's from liyue, his goals for teyvat's flow of money and currency as a whole, it would be considered heresy against his homeland's archon - rex lapis. (side note: i will do anything to see an interaction between the two of them)
primarily, i have seen this symbol speculated to be arlecchino's due to the appearance of the hand and the state of her own hands. what i have not seen is any further explanation on the decision. now, say it is an alchemy bottle: flaming essential oil = house of the hearth ? the house is in the palm of her hand etc etc i'm just not entirely convinced on that one either.
i'm not entirely convinced on any of these four. we have next to no information on capitano, and some bits on pulcinella, and a little bit more than that on pantalone...all this to say, i am nowhere closer to an answer than i was before.
there are a variety of ways i can see this being arranged but there's always one thing that does not align.
option 1: heresy (pantalone), healer's hand (pulcinella), hand gripping (arlecchino), nails (capitano) // how does pulcinella fit with that symbol?
option 2: heresy (pulcinella), healer's hand (capitano), hand gripping (pantalone), nails (arlecchino), // how does capitano fit?
or alternatively, option 3, same as before but: nails (capitano) and healer's hand (arlecchino) // how do either of them fit? besides vibes
and finally, option 4: heresy (capitano), healer's hand (arlecchino/pulcinella), hand gripping (pantalone) // how do they fit with those? and who goes with which one?
in conclusion, i do not know. huzzah !! i might have confused myself even more than i was before starting this post, but that's okay because maybe it'll help you understand why i so desperately want arlecchino's constellation confirmed

Okay so I have a kinda interesting request. Okay so say the traveler (whichever sibling youd like. Im pretty sure you write for them. If not you can write for a character that hates the fatui) has a s/o who was a secret harbinger but that are in so deep they don't know how to tell traveler. But one day the traveler finds out and is forced to defeat their s/o. I want it to be horribly sad. I love your writing BTW. You are incredibly talented. *smiles softly and dies*

Synopsis: From assisting an ambush to fighting to the death, Y/n had hidden their true identity from the Traveler because of love. But when the Traveler found out, they felt like they had been stabbed in the back.
Pairing: Traveler x Harbinger! Reader
Genre: Angst
💮 — Author Answered: Ahh, my first request! I've been waiting for one for so long (or is it because the anonymous asks has been off this whole time and I've just enabled it? Oops silly me :P) Anyways, thank you for the request Anon!
Note: Since the Fatui Harbingers' titles are based on commedia dell'arte, I spent some time doing research and referencing. It is safe to say that I know nothing about theater, so if there's any mistake(s), please forgive me :')
Tumblr media
The sounds of swords clashing echoed in the night sky of Liyue, very contrary to the atmosphere around. Paimon watched the fierce fight from the sidelines, her partner confronted their significant other, who they now know is a Fatui Harbinger.
"Why did you have to lie to me, Y/n?!"
"It was for your own good, Lumine/Aether."
The Traveler has lunged themselves at the Harbinger over and over, yet they haven't managed to land a single scratch on them. Both of them are experienced in combat, but one of them seems to be holding back.
"Fight me, Y/n! Or should I say, Brighella!"
"Lumine/Aether, please don't use that name against me..."
"So what? Isn't that who you really are? You've already lost my trust in you with that name, why do you care about it now?!"
The Harbinger displayed a face of regret, reminiscing about the good times with the Traveler before this incident.
Tumblr media
The first time they met was when Y/n was in charge of collecting debts for the Northland Bank. Even though they're surrounded by Treasure Hoarders, they still maintained their composure.
"You clearly know how loan funds work. You borrow, then you pay the debt according to a predetermined date. Why do you refuse to follow such simple steps?"
They already have their weapons in hand, but you still hope to settle this matter peacefully. But suddenly, someone flew over you and landed in front of you, defeating every single one of them.
"We're sorry, we're sorry! We promise we will pay our debts soon. Just please stop beating us."
The Treasure Hoarders went running wild. Then came a small "floating elf companion" who flew straight to you.
"Umm, are you okay? Are you hurt anywhere? Why did they surround-- Hey, you have a Vision! Why didn't you fight them?"
At first, you came off as aloof and somewhat unfriendly because of the awkward silence and intense stare you gave them. But then, they don't seem too distressed by the aura of your presence.
" *sigh* I just want to resolve this matter in a peaceful way. Fighting them is easy but I find fighting to be quite bothersome."
"Uhh... okay! Well, Paimon feels like it's rude not to introduce ourselves. This here is the Tra--"
"The Traveler who had saved Liyue from the raging waves of the Overlord of the Vortex and the Avenger of the Vortex recently, and their floating companion. Who doesn't recognize you?"
"O-oh, so we ARE famous... Hehe, in that case, Paimon also finds it bothersome to have to repeatedly introduce ourselves..."
The Traveler laughed at Paimon imitating your way of speaking, and maybe that laugh is what attracted you to them.
"Anyways, since you already know who we are, it is your turn to be known to us. Ooohh, Paimon feels like a detective...! State your name and the reasoning behind the ambush!"
"Paimon, you're way into this..."
You think for a moment on how to introduce yourself. The Traveler has a bad impression on the Fatui, so it's better not to reveal your real identity.
"My name is Y/n, I'm a lender, kind of an investor. The Treasure Hoarders had borrowed money from me and refused to pay their debts, until you came and beat them up. I really want to thank you for helping me earlier."
"Aww, it's nothing really... The Traveler here feels that you are in trouble so that's why they helped you. Hmm, collecting debts... Where has Paimon heard this from...? Oh yeah, it was when we babysat Childe's brother Teucer. He's done that before. Wait a minute, could it be that you also have something to do with the Fatui?" Paimon said.
"Hm? So you two have met Childe?"
"Huh, so you know him too, Y/n?" Paimon asked.
"Honestly, who doesn't? The Fatui Harbinger who got the blame for the Overlord of the Vortex incident. And believe me, I have absolutely nothing to do with the Fatui. I'm just a merchant from Snezhnaya that the Treasure Hoarder just happened to find out about my fortune."
The Traveler and Paimon were silent, a little confused about what else to say. "Huh..."
Not wanting to make things more awkward, you offered to treat them to lunch.
"As a token of my gratitude, I shall treat you to a meal."
"Now this, Paimon like!"
Tumblr media
The next day, the Traveler and Paimon were at the Wangshu Inn after staying there last night. They were making small talk on the upper balcony after eating breakfast cooked by Smiley Yanxiao.
"Huh, Paimon's surprised Xiao isn't hanging around here..."
Suddenly, the owner of the Wangshu Inn Verr Goldet came over. "Traveler, there's someone looking for you. They asked you to meet them on the ground floor," she informed.
"Oh, right. Paimon wonders who wants to meet them... Okay, thank you boss lady!" Paimon said.
Verr Goldet even had the time to reply as she descended the stairs. "It's not 'boss lady', it's just boss."
"Huh, whatever. Let's quickly meet this person on the ground floor."
Arriving at the ground floor, the Traveler was greeted with a pile of gifts on a table.
"Woah, what in the-- What on Teyvat is all this?!" Paimon exclaimed.
"Like I said yesterday, I really want to thank you for helping me. So I decided to give you a present, but I don't know what you like, so I bought a lot for you to choose."
You were waiting for them behind the pile of gifts and when you come out of hiding, for some reason their surprised faces you can't seem to forget.
"Sheesh, Paimon knows that you are a rich merchant! But there's also no need to show off your wealth like this either!"
"I did this with good intentions, you know."
The Traveler looked at the gifts on the table, and their eyes fell on a flower brooch.
"Oh, do you like this brooch? It was crafted by a skillful craftsman here in Liyue. You can have it, as well as the rest."
"No thanks, I'm good with just the brooch," the Traveler said.
"Alright then, you can come to my estate at anytime if you want to pick another gift."
"Ooohh, if the Traveler isn't going to take the rest, can Paimon choose a gift for herself?" Paimon asked.
"Hm, very well then."
"Yay!"
Tumblr media
"Woah, Paimon couldn't believe that Y/n asked you out on a date! They even prepared new clothes for Paimon to wear!"
The Traveler and Paimon were getting ready for dinner at Xinyue Kiosk. As Paimon said, Y/n has asked the Traveler out on a date. They also prepared clothes for them to wear.
"What do you think, Paimon? Does it look good?"
"Hehe, you look amazing Traveler! Are we ready to go?"
The Traveler and Paimon came out of their hotel room in Liyue Harbor which Y/n also paid for, and in front of the hotel Y/n was waiting for them.
"You look stunning, my princess/prince."
The Traveler blushed at the compliment, followed by Paimon nudging them.
"How are you liking your clothes, Paimon?"
"Oh, Paimon's liking her new clothes very much. It's strangely comfortable and just so poofy!"
"I'm glad to hear that. Shall we go, my princess/prince?"
You extended your hand and took their hand in yours. As you walk down the streets of Liyue Harbor, you earned stares and whispers from the people.
"They look great together, don't they?"
"Huh, isn't that the Traveler?"
"How romantic!"
When you arrived at the Xinyue Kiosk, Yueshu recognized you immediately and smiled.
"Reservation under the name Y/n, correct? For three people?" Yueshu asked.
"Correct."
"The food is served on the table a few minutes before you arrive. Enjoy your evening."
You nodded at her before entering. Paimon had already rushed over to the dining table.
"Wow, look at all this food! Where does Paimon want to start?" Paimon mumbled as she picked up a small plate.
"I've rented this place for tonight only. If we ran out of food, just say so."
"Hehe, thanks Y/n! Paimon will really use this opportunity to the max."
You took the food of your choice from the all-you-can-eat style buffet and brought it to the table. You remembered the Traveler's sigh the moment they saw the food that Paimon piled on her plate.
"Paimon, you have to make sure that you can finish all that food..." said the Traveler.
"Oh, don't worry. Paimon will finish all this food 'till the very last crumb."
You chuckled at Paimon as she starts to devour her food. "Apologies if you don't fancy Yue style food, eating seafood just reminds me of my homeland."
"Don't worry to much! Paimon and the Traveler have eaten here before, and we love it!"
"More like you love it..." The Traveler muttered.
"Hey!"
Tumblr media
"You are going to Inazuma? Isn't the Sakoku Decree being enforced?"
The Traveler and Paimon went to your estate to inform you of their upcoming trip to the Land of Eternity. To be honest, you were worried. The situation in Inazuma was really chaotic, and you didn't want anything to happen to them.
"How are you even going to get there?"
"Well, Beidou already promised us to take us there for winning The Crux Clash a few days ago. Atsuko said that she can help us get there."
You were silent for a moment. The Traveler and Paimon could feel the aura of feelings you felt at that moment. A little disappointed mixed with sad and worried. You let out a long sigh before telling them your final say.
"I guess there's nothing really stopping you from leaving, huh... Then, I wish you nothing else but the best on your journey. Please be careful."
"I will. Take care, Y/n."
The Traveler and Paimon who was floating by the door left your estate, you still stare at your closed door after their departure. Suddenly, you heard someone's voice from behind you.
"Did you hear that, my Lady/Lord? The Traveler is now heading to Inazuma."
"Yes, I heard that, Igor. I directly talked to them."
Igor is one of your subordinates, but the one you trust the most. You often share your thoughts and your plans of doing things with him.
"I had been close to the Traveler just so that I could report their position to Her Majesty the Tsaritsa. Should I go to Inazuma just to do the same thing?"
"That's entirely up to you, my Lady/Lord. I'm only here to loyally follow you and orders. Though, I think maybe we should go to Inazuma, just to see how things are going."
"I don't think that's a great idea. Too many Fatui Harbingers in Inazuma can make the people there be wary and suspicious of us. I'm pretty sure the Balladeer and the Fair Lady are already there."
"Right, my Lady/Lord."
"We'll see how it will go..."
Tumblr media
Some time has passed and the people of Liyue are celebrating the Lantern Rite. The Traveler hasn't given any news regarding their return to Liyue or their trip to Inazuma, so you decided to relax and enjoy the festival. After buying food from the street vendors on the streets of Liyue Harbor, you returned to your home with the intention of eating it with Igor. But before you could go inside, you heard some hurried footsteps and someone's voice calling for you.
"My Lady/Lord! My Lady/Lord!"
"Oh, Igor, Alexei, and Nikolai. Why are you in such a hurry?"
"We... we received some news... about..." Alexei tried to say as he catches his breath.
"About what?"
"About... Ugh, my legs are tired..." Nikolai complained.
"My Lady/Lord, we were recently informed that the Balladeer has ran off with the Electro Archon's Gnosis. And the Fair Lady was slain by the Shogun's Musou no Hitotachi. As a Harbinger, you are asked to return to the motherland to attend her burial," Igor explained.
" *sigh* I see... You were right, Igor. We should've gone to Inazuma to oversee the situation. I'm sorry. Search far and wide for the Balladeer's whereabouts, also take this food that I bought."
"Yes, my Lady/Lord."
"T-thank you, my Lady/Lord."
They quickly left, leaving you enraged and frustrated. You went into your estate for further planning. What you don't realize is that someone has overheard your conversation earlier.
"Paimon couldn't believe what Paimon's ears had heard. The person named Igor earlier said... that Y/n is a Harbinger!? Ahh, w-what?! Oh, should we run after him or... Wait, Traveler! Wait for Paimon!"
Igor, Alexei, and Nikolai ran to the nearest Fatui camp. Just as Igor was about to give their superior's orders, the Traveler came with their weapon in hand. They beat them down one by one, each attack filled with fury. After taking them down, the Traveler was just about to go and confront their so-called significant other but was stopped by some words from the Fatui.
"What is the meaning of this? What do you want from us?"
"Why did you attack us?"
"Ms. Lumine/ Mr. Aether! I'm sure there must be some sort of misunderstanding. My Lady/Lord would never do something without good intentions. They truly love you, Ms. Lumine/ Mr. Aether!" Igor expressed.
The Traveler listened to what he has to say and left to confront you.
Arriving at your house, they slowly knocked on the door. When you go to open it, you were tackled to the ground.
"How dare you lie to me this whole time?! You absolute jerk!"
"Lumine/Aether, please get off of me. I have a reason to lie to you."
"Fine! Meet me at Bishui Plain and make sure to be there."
Tumblr media
Your daydreaming gave the Traveler a chance to attack you and...
*STAB*
The Traveler's sword pierced through your body, protruding out of your back. It was truly a sight to see. Lovers fighting each other to the death as fireworks from Qingce Village can be seen in the background.
"Gah...! Oh, that... hurts. But it doesn't hurt as much as getting your heart broken by a jerk like me... Huh, I deserved this... I truly deserved this... Thank you for giving me the chance to love you, Lumine/Aether... I hope one day you can forgive me..."
And just like that, the Fatui Harbinger Brighella died because of blood loss and internal bleeding. The Traveler's face showed no remorse at first, until they heard something hitting the ground.
"Oh, isn't this the necklace you gave to Y-- er Paimon mean Brighella back then? Looks like they added a pendant to the necklace."
The Traveler took the necklace and opened the pendant. What they saw inside might have made them regret their actions.
Inside was a picture of them together with words engraved onto one side of pendant written in the common tongue saying "My Princess/Prince, Forever in My Heart".
The Traveler who previously has not shown a single sign of remorse was now sobbing. What Igor said turned out to be true. Y/n truly loves them.
The Traveler cried over their dead body as the fireworks continue to light up the night sky. What a tragic ending for the Liar.

(We love and respect Mod in this house. Mod is good mod)
(Your Pantalone and Dottore from dottore-official are adorbs together. It is so cute and sweet. I have my own ideas and headcanons for their characters BUT i love whats going on here! )
(I love Pantalone, he's my villian coded fave so he's the antagonist in all of my... yet to be written... stories and such BUT still love this man.)
(But those 2 are so cute together. We stan.)
((Ooc: Omg thank you!!! I'm so lucky you think so highly of me akbdkagka
Yes!!! They're so so so cute I- *smashes their faces together so they cut the crap and kiss already* The petnames THE PETNAMES *slams fist on desk* Ofc ofc! Diverse headcanons are so fun, your thoughts don't need to align with anyone else's ehehe!
Ugh yes I love Pantalone mostly because he's so misunderstood. Ofc we haven't seen much of him in-game but the lore is heavily reliant on his character archetype from the Commedia Dell'arte. A lot of people are very quick to dismiss him as a capitalist when in reality he is the opposite.
He grew up in complete poverty, and he's worked so hard for the titlesand honour he has now. Maybe what he's done in the past to get to where he is is not all morally just, but he's stood up for himself and has achieved what one could consider "greatness," yet knowing this, he hasn't forgotten his origins.
Pantalone has a deep desire to obtain Mora, and to "control its flow." In that very same voiceline, he mentions that the flow of Mora shall cease by the commands of the Fatui. This can be interpreted as the longing to destroy Mora and the vices it brings to people.
Wealth is certainly one of the straightest pipelines to corruption, but there is a little light that shines within our lovely Regrator. He has not been corrupted in a capitalist matter, but has become unhealthily obsessed with the goal to control and destroy the very thing that controls most politicians or other people in positions of power. Royalty simply stems from the fact that one has money and is fortunate enough to be born into a very rich family.
Naturally, he does believe in economic prosperity, but he also acknowledges that Mora (and all money) do the world more bad than good. For this reason, he desires to control the economy and longs to be its end.
Woooooooooooow I am so sorry that is a very long rant *runs away to hide in a corner* Whoops.
Oh my Archons! You're considering writing stories! (Or maybe you just have the details in your head teehee) I am an avid writer omggggg so I won't lie to you that sounds SO. FANTASTIC. You'll have to rant to me about your plans sometime! (Only if you'd want to, of course :)
Yes indeed! We do stan, Dottolone supremacy over here~
I'll have you know that I adore these little asks I get from you, they make my day!!!
I hope you're doing well! ~ Mod))

Who is it that looks back at you in the mirror?
── ୨୧:la signora, pantalone x reader
୨୧﹑synopsis :: you used to see yourself stare back at you when you looked in the mirror, but through a haze of fuzzy memories and the 'help' of the fair lady, something about your reflection looks...off.
୨୧﹑genre :: idk it's food eat it
୨୧﹑content :: gn reader, implied yandere, mentions of drugging, possibly ooc, proofreading? we don't use that word in this house, bad writing and really ramble-ish tbh 😭
୨୧﹑words :: 1063
atp I'll do anything just to post so you know I'm not dead and so I can say I actually posted this year. I was going to write about Signora on her own, then about Pantalone on his own and then I remembered commedia dell'arte has them married or something and I was like "this" maybe I'll write something fluffy next time so I don't sit there for ages wondering wtf to words, I finished both posts tho so maybe they'll come next (Pantalone's came before nvm 💀)
Tumblr media
the last people you expect to share a mutual interest are the fair lady Signora and the banker Pantalone, yet you are constantly fussed over, constantly spoiled, constantly dressed up, constantly treasured. you expect them to be rivals for your affection if they want to share you, and yet this agreement of theirs is mutually beneficial to the point they're perfectly content with sharing. the funding for Signora’s efforts in dressing you up are provided by Pantalone, allowing her the financial freedom to do anything and everything she wants to you, just so long as she turns around to flaunt the results to the banker like you're some kind of prize on auction.
it is not uncommon for Signora to fix your hair, somehow manage to find garments that compliment you even without you there, keep you at least looking happy like you're enjoying this kind of abstract torture. she gets unusually fussy when you don't eat well enough, probably the risk of you looking awkward in some outfits she picked out or maybe just you attempting to starve yourself to escape. she insists you look at it yourself to see, and in those clothes you could swear she just dressed you in, someone else stares back at you.
every morning you're served a pill by the banker and get told to take it, regardless of the fact it makes you drowsy and weak in the knees. that's probably what make them give it to you, a concoction of drugs that keeps you just unaware enough it's hard to tell where you are or what you're doing, though you can walk and recognise things, you're kept feeling detached from yourself and just when the feeling wears off by the next morning, you're thrown back in. it feels as if a different person stares back at you in the mirror each time, someone lost and often confused, who smiles when they're told even when you thought you were resisting that.
that person can't be you, can it?
it’s not a drastic difference, drearier than you remember. they look like you, you can tell that much. It’s just not you somehow. you used to think it was, but slowly it becomes less and less familiar. your body stops doing the things you want it to do and instead complies to the wants of those two. they want you and you go, Pantalone wants to treat you like an accessory and perch you in his lap then you sit, La Signora wants you to sit still and bear the discomfort of what she picks out and you do that. it's not a question, you just oblige.
you've never liked the way the hands of the banker touch you—like some possession that he owns—neither has Signora, you notice how she glares just a little when he has his hands all over you like a shiny ring of the finest Noctilucous Jade money can buy. still, neither of them have killed each other yet. you wonder how exactly, but maybe it's just the fact he's abusing your compliance to let him touch you. she certainly doesn't seem to mind as long as she gets to touch you too, still sitting in his lap and still the centrepiece meant for their enjoyment.
something to be poked and prodded at and squeezed. didn't you join the Fatui to fight? when exactly was it that you lost your way and fell into the arms of these two?
at first you didn't mind, finding it to be harmless gestures, a touch that lasts too long or a stare you notice out of the corner of your eye. more than affection you'd call it merely an ‘interest’, the affection only started when one of them managed to get you working under them as a subordinate. you had to give it to her, Signora is good at getting things she really wants, apparently you were one of those things as she promptly moved you right ‘where you belong’—to her side, of course.
you didn't used to mind things that way until you began to notice that Pantalone loitered around her more and more, and you know he didn't used to do that because you caught him with so much free time before. all of the business coming out of the blue when Signora was in such a stagnant point in her work was suspicious to you. you wrote it off with his explanation of a reworking of the finances in her sector taking longer than expected. to someone who had very little involvement in her finances, it made a lot of sense.
yes, somewhere between then and now, you tripped and fell into this neat little hole they made for you, a honey trap even. you're not sure when or how, all of that time has always been…a little fuzzier than you'd like.
when you looked in the mirror then, you saw your face looking back at you. now you see some lost little child who barely knows how to keep their head straight. for just a moment, in a rare hour on a lonely morning, you stare into that mirror and begin to see cracks of yourself shining through. have you always looked so tired? when did you get your hair to look like that? this person is still not you, but it sure does look a lot like you, a worn down version of you covered in a thick coat of idealisation to mask your weathering and slow spiral further and further into something you cannot identify.
in the very same morning you wonder if maybe you are still there to stare back at yourself in the mirror, that same pill lands in front of you with a cup of water. you recognise Pantalone’s hands, and you know that he can tell from the way you look at him and question his words that you're coming out of your haze. in response, he has to put you right back in. he claims he’s never going to force you, though you suspect that to be a lie. this life of luxury he provides you and the affection Signora gives to you will all go away if you don't take it, and in all aspects that's a good thing.
why exactly do you keep picking up that cup of water and downing that pill?

On account of the new teaser Hoyoverse just realized to destroy us here
I'm not the only one who thought Arlecchino and Sandrone we're gonna be men right? In commedia dell'arte they were male roles right? And I think Sandrone had a wife or a female counterpart
Are the masks just design choices and don't have any deeper meaning or they do have meaning and the fact that: Pantalone, Arlecchino, Sandrone, and Pulcinella don't have masks mean something????
THE GNOSIS USED AS CHESS PIECES BY PIERRO
THE GNOSIS IS WITH PIERRO NOT THE TSARISTA????
Is the Tsarista absentee??? Is she too depressed to lead? Is Pierro the actual leader with the Tsarista as a figure head? Or am I blowing things out of nothing?
ARE WE REALLY REALLY GONNA HAVE DOTTORE AND SCARA FOR SUMERU
They're so hot Hoyoverse pls stop I can't NO DON'T STOP

whats a lelio and why is lestat always associated with it
hey anon! lelio is the name of one of the characters in commedia dell'arte!
lestat, prior to being a vampire, was a mortal who worked in a small theatre in paris (which would eventually become the théâtre des vampires). at first he was a cleaner, but he worked his way up and eventually began working as an actor.
he realised he wanted to become an actor when a troupe of performers (likely doing commedia dell'arte) stopped in the village he grew up in for a day to perform. he saw them and was just absolutely enamoured with the art of performing, as well as the idea that he could be someone who wasn't lestat, so he joined up with them and tried to run away from home with this acting troupe. his father found out and sent his brothers to bring him back to the village, which was a common thread in lestat's formative years; he would make some effort to become less reliant on his father, and his father would send his brothers to drag him home again.
commedia is traditionally a very accessible form of theatre, as it was often performed on the streets by travelling performers when it was first 'created' (ig??) in the late 1600s. it was for the lower social classes, and the performances were mostly satirical takes on the upper class, where they were portrayed as stupid people with shallow wants, who were abusive to their peers and servants. plots were easy to follow; they were generally pretty generic and archetypal (when i was learning commedia we were told there were several generic plots). there are four types of commedia characters: masters and servants, as well as masked and unmasked. most of the characters wore masks that were pretty similar across different tropes, that way no matter what group of performers you were watching, you knew which character was which. lestat played an unmasked character (called a lover in commedia), who was both an outlier for that, and the fact that his character didn't really fall into the high-status or low-status thing going on. the lovers are typically highborn who have been pulled downward by their love for each other, which is typically forbidden or impossible in some way (one may be betrothed to another character etc.) and they just lose all sense and critical thinking and just give into lust which makes the higher-status characters look down on them MORE. so much drama!!
all this to say lestat played the male lover, and one of the more common names for that character in french commedia was lelio! this character was also often called flavio, silvio, and leandro! the accessibility of commedia meant that his (then) inability to read wouldn't have hindered him much, as a lot of commedia is improvisational, where you have a general outline and plot structure that you follow, but dialogue and character action can be fluid within that.
the vampire who turned lestat saw him acting at the theatre and was taken by his beauty, and used his role as lelio, the lover, to taunt him in his tower prior to turning him. it was a pretty central thing that led to his turning. lestat was beautiful and dangerous: lelio the wolfkiller. he would make a perfect vampire. it's very fucked up and insanely sad.
but that's the (very incoherent) tldr on lelio and lestat!

i made these ocs back in like 2022 and my art style improves at a rapid pace, so they're well over due for redesigns. here are the performers/workers though :3c
- cirque de lumiere / circus of light is a french circus upholding a reputation of it being one of the greatest in france, with performances consisting of a giant cheshire cat, world's tallest man, even one of the most spectacular magicians. though, more sinister things happen under the big top
Tumblr media
fratellini / The Saint or "Saint the Fool" (knife-juggling clown, she/her). she's very silly and likes to mess with the other performers. montblanc is her best friend
françois / "François the Great" (magician, he/him). flamboyant fuck that does all the "mind-controlling" at the circus. he likes to bother aesop, working with him to steal other's belongings when they're not looking
aesop / "He Who Talks to Crows" (crow tamer, he/him). obviously, he tames crows. kinda like a lion tamer, but his crows steal jewelry from the audience when they are too busy being enamored by the show
^^^ this drawing was made 2 months ago, just haven't got to coloring it. it is a redesign for them though, the names on the bottom are their former names cuz i changed them (or their stage names)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
montblanc / "The Cheshire" (cheshire cat, he/him). veery giddy kitty. his voice claim is of course, sterling holloway (voice actor of the cheshire cat in 1951 alice in wonderland). he loves surprises and often dismisses questions, liked by everybody in the circus
apollon / "Big Top" (strongman, he/him). i haven't got to redrawing him yet so the anatomy is off ^^; it's the original drawing. anyways he's cocky and a big show-off. yes he's half spider
as you can see montblanc is also a recent drawing which i haven't colored yet
Tumblr media
cassius / "Cassius the Warrior" (stuntman, he/him). he isn't really developed that well, but he performs dangerous stunts for the audience, though he's very jumpy. works well with montblanc and jack
mister (or wilheim) / "The Living Nutcracker" (nutcracker idk what he does, he/him). he's also Severely underdeveloped. made him as a christmas special and revealed him on christmas day last year. he lives up to the whole british soldier thing, he does whatever he is told to do n stuff
vivienne / "Black Widow" (vaudeville/cabaret?, she/her). she's kind of a flirt, she puts on performances for the more mature audiences. i like her and this drawing just made me realize how tall she is
now THIS is old. vivienne is the only one i drew recently, i'll be putting her at the end. also cassius' design was designed by a friend:3
Tumblr media
chono (ringmaster, he/him). he's the lead of the circus, very very evil
nato (he/him) is chono's assistant. he's on high alert a good amount of the time
jack (or jacqueline) / "Jack-in-the-Box" (surprise performer, she/her). she loves to surprise people when fratellini cranks the handle on her box and she pops out. she can be foul-mouthed and rude, always getting in people's faces n' such
...yyeaah this one is also old. though i made some adjustments to the colors a few months ago, the style and stuff is still old
Tumblr media
vanitas (or nicolaes) / "Memento Mori" (puppeteer, he/him) is the nicest circus performer. he puts on puppet shows, when he speaks he adapts the personality of what puppet he's using, and he'll often make up a conversation. his puppets are commedia dell'arte characters. when not using any puppet, he talks normally + he's polite. his 'face' is a mask by the way
this drawing i made like 3 days ago lol. it's his redesign concept, his original one i just went head-first and i still don't like it >.>
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and last but not least these two. first we have baroness (or marie-christine) / "Dangerously Yours" (singing entertainment, she/her). she also puts on shows for the more mature audiences, in which she'll sing on a stage. her songs are often quite dark, the audience never realizes it though. her design is also by the friend who made cassius
and on the right is primadonna (or marcel. mime, she/her) who is, of course, a mime. i think her face is her actual face. my sister helped design this one
i made these doodles like, a month or two ago. just concepts so i can get their designs down
that's Allll for the circus performersssss ^w^^^^ hope u enjoy them. Oh and there's this other one who's been stuck in concept stage (i haven't even drawn them yet), their name is El Lissitzky, based on the real El Lissitzky's paintings. think they're gonna be a painter as well
onto old/new pieces... wwweeew
Tumblr media
^ here's that vivienne piece i mentioned. i posted her to this blog already...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the original designs and how they're supposed to look when colored:3c also this montblanc is a slightly updated version of his original drawing to make his fur look better
Tumblr media
and finally vanitas' original design... yeaahh. wanted to go for a jester-like look, his design is somehow simultaneously too much and too little. i never really had a proper concept for him beforehand, just the silhouette of what he was supposed to look like. strongly disliking the colors thou
Tumblr media
also recent apollon i did as a style test:3 all of these circus performers have a voice claim BTW :P
...I think this was a reaaaalllly long post

Okay this will probably sound weird, but. Do you have like a favorite thing about being Italian? I mean language, some part of the culture, something about the history, (etc.) or like anything at all
Yeah this probably is weird. But I wanna know.
i do i do i do !! that's not a weird question at all !! i actually have more than one thing so here goes my list (in order of what comes to mind first)
1. the art the landscape the beauty - i don't think there's an explanation needed here just look at it !!
2. history - roman empire !! republic of venice !! there's just so much !!
3. theatre - commedia dell'arte !! goldoni's reform !! opera !!
4. food - it's a big part of our culture, traditional recipes passing on from one generation to another, usually through grandmothers' cookbooks. also the variety of recipes between the northern regions and the southern ones !!
5. poetry and literature - just !! so much !! although i'm not a big fan of some of our greatest poets i have to say they really had an impact and influenced a lot of great minds all throughout europe !! then there are the ones i love (leopardi and saba i'm looking at you) !!
6. dialects - they're really cool but it's kinda sad that we're starting to lose them bc people don't speak them anymore on a daily basis thanks to globalisation
there's probably a lot more but yeah !! italians often say lots of negative things about our country and that's fair- we do have problems (our government being one of them) and all but we also have an amazing history and i want people to be able to say they're proud of being italian and start reconnecting with their culture !!

We know Joker's backstory is similar to the commedia dellarte "the columbina, arlecchino and pierrot". But did you know that, just like mickey that has his minnie, the pierrot later on gets his own pierette? So can I have headcanons for Joker (both hunter and survivor) with a pierette (woman or mostly feminine-alligned gender) s/o. Idea bonus: she knew Joker has been a while and she had a crush of him before he ended up crushing over margie. Thanks!
I apologize if I got some stuff wrong, since I was primarily going off what I know about commedia dell'arte along with Wikipedia. Also, this went a bit longer than multi-character asks normally do, since I really loved this idea, and I might actually revisit this concept in the future if I feel like writing a story for it or get a similar request.
Weeping Clown and Smiley Face with a Pierette S/O (Romantic, Fem-Aligned Reader)
Joker (Weeping Clown)
You two likely met in Hullabaloo, as it would only be a matter of time before the Pierrot and the Pierette were put together for a show.
You two quickly became acquainted and eventually got to the point where you considered yourselves good friends, and he had stolen your heart without even realizing it.
It was a tragedy, truly, that the one who held your heart so tightly for so long was also the one who eventually began to speak to you of his pining for the attention of another person, Hullabaloo’s animal tamer.
Eventually though, those moments of Joker coming to you to sing her praises grew fewer and fewer as you talked more, and instead he seemed to focus more on you.
He would offer to do your makeup for shows or let you do the same for him, not wanting to miss the opportunity to just look at you for a while.
It was during a day that you two decided to relax together that it seemed the dam he had build up to hide his emotions finally crumbled and he confessed to you. He may be a Pierrot, a role known for often failing to win the heart of the Columbina, but you are a Pierette and no Columbina, so you told him how you returned his affections and you two became official.
Very few were surprised by this, as it was a bit more obvious than you both thought. Nonetheless, most of them were pretty happy for you both.
Now that you two are together, he makes it clear he adores you and everything you do. You are the Pierette to his Pierrot, and he wants you to never doubt that he is truly in love with you.
Anyone who he is close to will hear him sing your praises and talk about how much he adores you. If anyone ever tells you about this and you mention it to him though, he’d likely get really flustered and only say that he just likes talking about you to people.
You make this sad clown feel like the happiest man in the world, and he hopes he makes you feel a similar way.
Joker (Smiley Face)
Given the nature of Smiley Face, you two likely met in the Manor when you arrived.
Back in the Hullabaloo days, you and Joker matched as the Pierette and the Pierrot, but now you two contrast as the Pierette, which is a sad clown, and a happy clown.
Even if he has changed, he’s still the Joker who you knew and had taken your heart, and you still adore him. He might not realize this at first, but he’s glad to still be your friend.
As he begins to realize his feelings for you, he also begins to try to make you laugh and smile more. It could be small things, like telling you a joke he had heard, or larger things, like the time he let you use his rocket to try running around with like he usually does. He finds himself enjoying those moments more and more.
The growing mutual affection between the two of you does not go unnoticed by the other major residents. Some respect that it’s not really their business and stay out of it, while others will lightly tease either you or Joker about it on occasion if you don’t mind it.
Joker thinks out his plan for confessing for a while before finally going to see you again. He is unusually quiet when he sees you, and after a few moments, he finally spills what he has been feeling. When you accept his confession and say you feel the same, he is practically ecstatic.
He may not wear his usual makeup anymore, but that won’t stop him from offering to do your makeup or for you to do his. He loves the closeness of the action, and would offer it to you even before his confession.
You may be a Pierette, but good luck playing that role with him around, because he will make it his job to ensure your happiness and that will include pulling out every card he can to see you smiling and laughing.
It brings Joker an abundance of joy to know you two are together, and in a similar fashion to his Survivor counterpart, he hopes you feel the same.
