fresh new watcher/listener headcanon: they do better when the opposite sense is completely taken out of the picture

like u give a watcher noise-cancelling headphones and suddenly they gain a +14 to perception, they see Every Detail and can see up to like a billion miles away from where they're standing, everything that makes up everything down to the molecule if they squint, in a fight they're so good at tracking how their opponent swings and makes the smallest, most minute of eye movements that it basically looks like they're predicting their opponent's movements just from analysing what they're already doing down to an insane degree. all you gotta do to make a listener unable to hear you is, well, not talk. that aint gonna work here. you're communicating through body language and overly-expressive looks? the watchers read it like its (very literally) its own language. reading lips is a breeze. passing notes in the back of the class ain't gonna work here.

on the other hand, give a listener a blindfold and they become acutely aware of the Exact BPM of Everyone Within A Billion Mile Radius. watchers, when they are not using their ability to literally see everything everywhere all at once, can be hidden from. you plant yourself behind a big enough tree and you're damn near invisible. hiding from a listener in this state is impossible. both literally and figuratively- give a listener a blindfold and make 'em interrogate someone, they're able to hear every vocal inflection, every hesitation, every cutoff, and will probably instantly know whether youre lying or not. their fighting style becomes completely reactive- with a fast enough reaction time (and lets be real theyre mildly immortal pseudo-gods, their reaction time is fast enough) they can hear the sound of an arrow cutting through the air and dodge it without even looking. they can catch blades on their own weapons and are the master of side-stepping out of the way when someone tries to stab them from behind like the cool kids they are

i feel like if you pitted them in a fight against each other, they'd be insufferable to one another but absolutely enthralling to watch from the outside. i'd like to think that watchers are very formal, since they have that whole lawful evil type nonsense going on, so the way they fight is very by-the-books, won't break rules, fights like they're being scored type beat. on the other hand, listeners are, again, purely reactive. they are impulse-driven chaos mongerers, and thus they fight dirty. below the belt? low-hanging fruit? sounds good to them. they'd go for an easy shot in the Nether region, if you know what i mean (jimmy and grian are exceptions; they purposely act the opposite of what they're meant to because they're sort of just Like That tbh)

but yeah, they'd be SO annoying to one another. the watcher keeps having to parry the listener's bs blows (which annoys the listener to no end because the POINT of those shots is that you DON'T SEE THEM COMING!!), keeps trying to land hits but is evaded at the exact last second, probably on purpose just to make the watcher mad. like, the listener hears the sword coming at them from a mile away but doesn't dodge until the last possible moment just so the watcher can see how small a distance they missed by. but then the listener tries to make shots of their own and they're blocked halfway through the swing. the listener barely even comes close to hitting them because the watcher is predicting the damn future or something stupid like that, making it impossible for them to do anything unless they move like an absolute maniac so the watcher can't predict them. similarly, the only way the watcher can land anything is by exclusively using fake-outs, which just feels wrong.

honestly, i'm imagining a spar between martyn and pearl like this. they're so silly i think they would lightheartedly get on each other's nerves in this way until the fight is abruptly ended by pearl kicking martyn in the nether because yes, she fights by the rules, and it was a spar with no rules so. hey. fair game.

This is my interpretation of Watcher Pearl but be prepared I haven’t watched all of evo yet

Instead of the Watchers just taking Grian from the end and leaving they take him to spawn to show the rest of the evolutionists that he’s going with them and that the evolutionists are kicked out of spawn

this of course angers all the players but most of all Pearl, this leads to her getting so angry she attacks the Watchers and manages to kill one

this causes the Watchers to fear her and decide to take her with them to prevent her from attacking them anymore

so then both Grian and Pearl are taken to the Watchers realm and forced to become Watchers Grian of course try’s to go against them the most and always gets in trouble but Pearl learns that if she gets in trouble it’s a worse punishment (because they want her to stay in line so she doesn’t go crazy and kill them all. side note she doesn’t know she’s powerful enough to do that much damage ) so she plays by their rules and advances in the lessons faster then Grian

this leads to only her knowing how to open portals to servers and so when Pearl and Grian try to escape she doesn’t tell him that in order to make sure they don’t follow them she has to stay behind and manually close and lock the portal to the server they go to so she pushes Grian in (to season 6 of hermitcraft)and closes it leaving her to the will the of the Watchers, this leads to some very very bad punishments

I haven’t thought this far yet so somehow Grian gets her out or she finds a way out and they reunite at season 8 of hermitcraft both very traumatized but alive

Watchers Are Possessive

So, my friend (@upmostrylan) and share a lot of headcannons with each other and here’s something that I need to share.

Context: Our main headcannon is that the OG Watchers (the ones who take Grian at the end of Evo) are the 1st gen Watchers. Grian, Pearl, and Jimmy Solidarity are considered the 2nd gen Watchers. There’s a couple other things, but that’s the background context you need.

Now, to the headcannon/story idea: TW: Mentions of abuse. Nothing graphic, just a small mention of it so if that triggers you, skip

What the 2nd gen doesn’t know is there was a third 1st gen Watcher, but they never knew who it was. Another thing about the OG Watchers is that they were really abusive to the 2nd gen, to the point the three were constantly scared of them and had really bad PTSD, panic attacks, etc.

Grian was the first to leave and join the humans, but the 1st gen Watchers saw this as a betrayal, cursing him and telling Pearl and Solidarity if they left, they would also be cursed but have it worse. Pearl was next to leave after another year of the abuse. Solidarity stuck through it, thinking the curse he would receive would be worse than what he was going through. However, he also eventually left to the humans and, instead of joining Grian and Pearl on Hermitcraft, he thought he could escape the 1st gen Watchers’ gaze by going to Empires. Obviously, that didn’t work and he was cursed in the end, but he was at least free.

Anyways, rewind to when Grian joined Hermitcraft. Xisuma could immediately tell he was a Watcher. Why? Because he’s one of the 1st gen, having run away after realizing how corrupt the other two were. However, upon sensing the curse on Grian and seeing how shy and nervous he was at first, he could only imagine how much worse they got.

So, he befriends Grian, who doesn’t seem to realize just what he is. Xisuma doesn’t mind and, as their friendship develops, he makes an invisible claiming mark on the back of Grian’s neck, stopping the other two from watching him. When Pearl joins, he does the same thing. He becomes really protective of the two, letting them get away with things he normally wouldn’t let others get away with.

He was also a bit possessive. All Hermitcraft members were open and didn’t mind sharing partners. Hell, some of them were in polycules themselves! So when Grian and Scar started dating and Pearl and Cleo started dating, it wasn’t a shock that Xisuma told both their partners that if they hurt “his dove/butterfly”, he would make them pay. Xisuma was extremely protective and loved them a lot, despite the three not being in an official relationship.

Anyways, cut forward to the Hermitcraft X Empires crossover (also, pretend everyone on HC came onto Empires). When Xisuma was touring Tumble Town with Scar, Grian, Tango, and a few others, he only needed to take one glance at Solidarity to know the sheriff was also a Watcher. Solidarity also stared at him, able to sense... something was up with him.

When they were alone, Xisuma goes to subtly claim him by saying there was something on his back.

Solidarity catches his hand and stares at the other.

“What’s wrong?”

Solidarity blinked, eyes turning purple, “...You’re one of us. I can tell.”

Xisuma went stiff.

“You came after me, right...? I’m sorry... they must’ve been really hard on you. Grian says you never show your face, so I can only imagine...”

“Uh, yeah, but I’m fine now!” Xisuma lies.

Solidarity gives him a hug, “It’s okay now... You’re safe.”

Xisuma hugs him back and makes the invisible claim, finally freeing all of the 2nd gen Watchers. He won’t tell them, not yet anyways. He will just continue to protect them and be a bit possessive.

Don’t worry about the kisses and marks all over Grian, Pearl, and Soli, definitely not marks that Xisuma made because he got a bit jealous and wanted to remind them he loved them and they were his, not at all-

Jimmy’s brain skidded to a stop as he heard Scott address the enemy, a look of incredulity crossing his face.

“Wait, your name is Xornoth?”

“And what of my name is so funny?”

A little laugh escaped the Codfather, “Let me guess, you’re the older twin? Which would leave Scott being named after Xaeraye?”

“How did you know that?” Scott’s brows furrowed in confusion.

“Yes, Xaelane, how did your mortal lover know this about our history?”

“Pearl, you won’t believe this!” Jimmy called out to the other monarch, confusing every other individual around them.

Pearl hummed, approaching from where she stood near a shocked Wither Rose Alliance, “Hm? What’s up Jimbo?”

“Did you know Scott is named after you?”

Pearl blinked. “Oh? Really? That’s lovely! Not many people named their children after me. But that also means that his brother was probably named after you, remember?” Jimmy froze, staring at Pearl, who simply laughed. “Oh come on Xornaithe, don’t tell me you forgot?”

“I forgot,” Jimmy admitted. After a moment, he perked up again, “They’re named after us for protection, right Xaeraye?”

“Yes?”

Jimmy’s smile widened, a hint of mischievousness finding its way into the expression. “Including protecting them from themselves and silly lesser gods?”

“Again, yes?”

Jimmy turned to their enemy and gestured him closer, a triumphant grin on his face. “Xornoth, you’re not allowed to do this anymore. Exor has no power over you now. We’re going home to the Cod Empire.”

“What?”

“As your namesake, you are my responsibility.”

“Wait! You’re Xornaithe?”

A flash of purple lit up as wings appeared behind Jimmy’s back and his eyes flashed purple, revealing delicate decorations on his ears. If they were to glance to the side, they would see Pearl had also revealed wings and glowing eyes.

Why did I just think of the most craziest yet most interesting AU for limited life?

(Ok maybe not but work with me here) the nosey neighbors + Grian vs the clockers - Etho in a lupat style au. With the nosey neighbors as the lupinrangers(Phantom Bandits) and the clockers as the Patrangers(Crafted.Special.Police.Organization-CSPO).

The world, weapons, gimmicks, and monsters would still be in the Minecraft style but the narrative and characters would be closer to lupats.

Phantom red (Grian)- An avian hybrid. use to be apart of the Watchers, a powerful inter-dimensional crime syndicate but left with Pearl because he couldn’t stand how they tortured humans for pleasure. Formed the Phantom Bandits as a way to fight back against the Watchers and save and protect humans. Runs the Neighbors Bakery as a cover up with Pearl and BigB

Phantom black (Pearl)- A moth hybrid. was also part of the Watchers along with Grian but left for the same reasons. She agreed to forming the team to protect humans and suggested the fact they the could steal artifacts that Watchers lend to patrons and allies to make them weaker. Works in the bakery as a waiter. Owns a cat named froggie that works at the bakery with her.

Phantom Blue (BigB) - A human. Originally was part of the CSPO but a huge argument between him and Cleo forced him to quit. Was kidnapped by the watchers along with others to compete in a death game. Was saved by Pearl and Grian and wanted to join their team after getting to know them. Acts as the main baker for the Neighbors Bakery.

Cleo- a zombie. The leader of the special division Clockers unit. A three man team put together to combat the watchers and phantom bandits. Very strict about her job. Secretly a huge softy who just wants to protect people from hybrids. Absolutely despises the fact that Scar and Bdubs keep referring to her as mom. Also secretly feels bad about the fight with BigB. Usually takes the clockers to the Neighbors bakery to eat.

Scar- a human. an old buddy of Cleo’s that got promoted to the same team as her. Although likes to joke around a lot more than her. The unofficial 2nd in command. Wears enchanted Armour for his legs. Despite his personality he takes his job very seriously and wants to protect people smiles. Wants to help BigB and Cleo reconnect.

Bdubs- a human. The third and rookie member of the clockers. Was slotted as BigB replacement. He doesn’t know Scar and Cleo that well but had no trouble fitting in with Scar. He doesn’t like being referred to as a rookie though and is constantly trying to prove himself. Much to the annoyance of Cleo. Joined the CSPO because he wanted to help people and hated the watchers.

Martyn/Phantom yellow-???. Part of a government organization called the Listeners. Made for the sole purpose of eliminating the Watchers. Joined both the Clockers and the Phantom bandits. Acts as a double agent and wants the two teams to work together. A very mysterious thing. And seems to know a lot of intel about the watchers and how they work.

I wanted to post this au here since it would be easier to add stuff and I wanted to share it with all of you. Maybe I’ll add more. I am working on rolls for more characters and may add those soon. I can also answer any questions or comments if anyone is interested in this au. Might even make some art for it.
