Hello! Mom anon here! After playing through Chapter 6, my mom is terrified for Yuu's well-being.

First off, she was scared for life and crying her eyes out when Grim, Vil and Jamil were taken away. She especially felt bad for Kalim and Trey throughout the chapter. She also got deeply concerned because Ramshackle was destroyed.

As each boy was taken away, my mother got more scared and was pissed at Idia. She did understand he didn't want to do this though. She also refused to believe Ortho could do any harm.

When Crowley got taken away, she legit didn't even feel bad for him.

When the boys were being taken away, she thought Leona letting Riddle nap on his lap was kinda cute. She was shook at the reveal that Idia was from a famous family. "Still a capitalist I see" was what she said about Azul.

She was crying about Deuce and Ace. Crewel is now her favorite teacher.

She found it sweet that Epel and Rook wanted to save Vil but pitied Yuu.

She thought the whole gaming part was hilarious as well as her favorite.

Now Rook is her second favorite character.

She was crying for Ortho and Grim the whole chapter.

She felt really bad for Malleus because it reminded her of when she was a teenager. Let's just say my mom used to think she didn't need friends bit it all changed when she started warming up to people.

She was so proud of Epel for getting his unique magic.

Vil kissing Epel, Rook and Yuu was so sweet.

She thought the team ups were interesting especially Jamil and Leona.

Lol she thought the monsters were a fuss.

The Shroud brothers' backstory made her BAWL her eyes out but she was also angrily wondering where the parents were.

She felt bad for Vil turning old and was happy to see him get his young self back.

White haired Riddle is her new favorite thing.

The reunion was sweet to her, especially with ADeuce, Grim and Yuu.

She now calls Malleus "Our Lord and Savior, MalMal"

She's happy that Ramshackle got fixed.

Mama legit bursted into tears of joy when she saw Ortho again. "OH MY GOD!! He's a part of the first years! I'm so happy!"

Overall, she's glad that everything's fine for now.

Now she's worried for Malleus and all of Diasomnia. The trailer for Chapter 7 made her shout "Don't you dare try to put everyone to sleep, Tsunotaro!!"

Crowley is still on her hit list 😂.

Hello again and welcome back!

While I do enjoy chatting about TWST 😅 I ask that you try to cut down on the size of your asks for the future; this one and the episode 5 one have been particularly bulky. I understand that this is likely a function of the main story getting progressively longer, but please try to do your best to summarize the most relevant points.

Making each line is a new point doesn’t leave me with a lot that is meaningful to comment on, so parts of my response may be short or skip over some sections altogether 💦

Thank you for understanding! 🙏 I’m going to spoiler tag this response since 6 is just starting to be released for EN and I don’t want to spoil anyone that wants to go in blind.

I think episode 6 definitely has one of the most bombastic starts of all the main story episodes, and it manages to maintain that momentum for quite a bit. No one was quite expecting the mass raid and kidnapping 😂 we were just joking around about Vil kicking down the door and dragging Idia away from his video games kicking and screaming. 6 is when we get a lot of payoff for all of the OBs that have already transpired earlier in the plot, so the fear really kicks in. It also gives an opportunity for the non-OB boys to step up and do something in the absence of key members of their respective dorms (ie maintain order and keep the mob students from panicking).

There was an initial outcry when the first part of episode 6 released, with the rage being directed at Idia. A lot of people believed that he was the one responsible for the kidnappings and that he would subject the OB boys to unspeakable horrors as test subjects 😔 but it later turns out he’s an unwilling participant (his parents ordered him to), and the experiments mainly consist of simulated battles and playing video games. The test subjects also torment Idia as much as he torments them sooo I guess it’s even?? I just wish people hadn’t jumped to conclusions or had been so reactionary. I understand feeling worried for the safety of the characters, but some of the things being said at the time definitely weren’t warranted and went too far 💦

Something that episode 6 does well is demonstrating the bonds that have been built between the various characters in the core cast. There’s determination in Ace and Deuce rushing in to protect their friends, Pomefiore and Yuu going out of their way to rescue Vil and Grim, the strength of the vices (+ Kalim) and the NRC staff staying behind to keep the school together, and the various OB boys teaming up to venture into S.T.Y.X.’s headquarters. Everyone bands together and tries working things out in their own ways. Yeah, they hit a few (okay, a LOT of) bumps in the road, but they’re able to pull it off in the end. 6 definitely gave me a lot of food for thought, especially on the OB boys and how they have changed since their initial appearances. (I wrote this analysis of the various groupings!) I’m looking forward to rereading the localization of 6 in EN just to experience the magic again 😤

dbjssbkwns It’s good to know that Rook’s getting some appreciation 😂 He’s really the one driving this whole rescue mission with his unique magic/signature spell, so he deserves the praise!

I was in the same boat as Rook, Epel, and Yuu when Vil asked if he could hug and kiss them! I was shocked that he could be so affectionate bfjsbsksns and even funnier, that means Vil’s the first of the TWST cast to canonically kiss the player (most likely on the cheek). The TWST OC/TWSTsona community likes to romantically ship their own Yuus with various boys in the cast (and a lot of us initially got into TWST thinking it was a dating sim), so Vil giving a kiss of thanks is kind of a funny (but probably unintentional) subversion of that.

First it was Deuce in 5, then it’s Epel getting his unique magic/signature spell in 6! (I’m hoping this means Ace discovers his in 7 😭) I really liked that Rook served as a mentor figure to Epel and helped to guide him in stilling his nerves and directing his newly discovered magic! He’s like a proud parent…

Episode 6 is notorious for its time-gating snd restrictive battles (which were not seen in previous episodes). This can be very frustrating so 💦 I hope the EN players are prepared to deal with it! Some of the battles are super tough and will require a diverse card pool to achieve victory. Luckily though, some time can be saved because the JP players have already figured out and posted the answers to some of the puzzles online.

I think the Shroud brothers’ backstory was the only one of the OB boys that made me cry 🥲 It was just so emotionally resonant in a way that the others weren’t. (I also wrote an analysis about Idia, Ortho, and coping with loss, if you’re interested in that!) I believe the commonly accepted theory is that the Shroud parents are absent or hands-off when it comes to child rearing; there’s subtle hints of it throughout 6, such as Idia saying his parents care more about getting results than their son’s feelings and how it is the researchers that check on Idia a few years after Ortho’s passing rather than the Shroud parents.

Vil turning old in his selfless effort to save Idia was a clever way to incorporate the “hag” form of the Evil Queen for whom he is twisted from. It also helps his character arc come full circle 🥺 when he repeats the same words Rook spoke to him at the end of episode 5… “In this moment, I am the fairest of them all”, while looking old and decrepit… It shows that Vil has come to truly love himself in spite of how others may perceive him.

The reunion of everyone at the end was one of the best parts of 6 (though let’s be fair, 6 had a LOT of really bangin’ parts), especially considering that this is happening so close to “the end”. You come to see and appreciate just how far you—and, by extension—all of these characters have come, the genuine friendships they’ve formed… and how that’s all going to go away very, VERY soon (due to Lilia and Malleus’s ominous conversation about the brevity of human life, and how the bonds they form make them stronger). You just KNOW the next episode will tackle mortality, loneliness, and losing the ones you love most (particularly because Yuu finding a way home will become relevant again). It makes 6’s ending super bittersweet.

Ramshackle gets fixed and we get to enjoy that luxury for all of 5 seconds before heading home—

I was so pumped seeing Ortho finally being realized as his own person and a student independent of Idia 😭 He’s the robot that was able to turn into a “real boy”, against all odds. He was able to take that 0.01% and turn that slim possibility into 100%. Ortho has definitely earned his spot at school and in all of our hearts!!

I didn’t really care what happened to Crowley when I was actually playing 6, but now I want 7 to explain what he was up to during that time 🤔 Like, we never know what he was being asked about or if he was actually being interviewed at all??? I just think it’s suspicious that we’re being left in the dark about those details.

On a final note, let’s talk Malleus! I think his general struggle is something many people can relate to. Loneliness is something we’ve all experienced one way or another. Even if we’re surrounded by tons and tons of people, we can still feel isolated and alone because there’s a component of loneliness that comes from doubt, and self-imposed circumstances. In Malleus’s case, he’s so used to loneliness that it has become his status quo, and this isolation is not only perpetuated by others but also unknowingly by himself in the little ways he acts—the arrogance, the standoffishness, etc. It can even difficult to be the one to reach out, because it involves a degree of being vulnerable yourself, of letting others “see” you as you are, rather than as the front you put up for the sake of saving grace or upholding a particular image. I hope that anyone who has ever felt like this is able to overcome it and find good company as your mom has 🙏

Episode 7 ahoy! If part 1 is of any indication, we’re in for a very… exciting ride 😇 in which Malleus may or may not take any means necessary to prevent his friends and family from leaving him—

Thanks for this question! I’m super curious what their next move will be. There are so many possibilities. And you’re right Rick doesn’t play about saving his family, which makes me think some sacrifice from him will be involved in their next move. With my predictions, I’m not fully sold on any of them but I wrote them out still 😁

I have a feeling that the Richonne reunion won’t be private for long. Rick had what looked like a GPS tracking device and let people know they were crashing which means Rick and Michonne will likely hardly have time to thoroughly devise their next move and will have to act pretty fast.

I was so elated when Rick and Michonne first laid eyes on each other that it hadn’t hit me until after that they’re actually in such a dangerous situation. More military is coming and Michonne just took down several of them. It means whoever’s coming to retrieve Rick would want her dead, especially since she’s an undeniable ‘A’ 😬

I think after their moment of shock and being emotional over being back together their next move could be Rick claiming to whatever soldiers show up that Michonne is a ‘B’ he found that was uninvolved in the helicopter attack so that they don’t kill her - but I know Rick would hate to do that because he doesn’t want to bring her somewhere she can’t leave. So I just think that could be the route only if he doesn’t see another option to get her away from the premises so that none of that attack is traced back to her.

I also keep thinking about how the first trailer ended with Michonne seemingly looking up at a helicopter and smiling in that same reunion outfit. That makes me think somehow their next move might involve Rick leaving in a helicopter with the CRM so that they won’t search for Michonne but before they have to part he gives her some type of way to know how to meet up with him somewhere soon idk.

I feel like Michonne will be adamant not to be split up from him but I think Rick, especially after years of feeling dead inside for the sake of keeping her safe, will feel like he’d make any sacrifice to ensure she lives, including being temporarily taken from her again.

I can’t wait to find out what exactly they do next because I’m so not sure and since I really was not expecting the Richonne reunion to be ep 1, it’s changed all my other predictions for the series going forward and I love it. 😊

KinnPorsche Ep11 Lines of Power

You know the drill by now: I'm here to talk about lines of power, staging, and framing in KinnPorsche.

D: I'm a day late. Apologies. My power went out yesterday... which, as @antique-forvalaka pointed out to me, is pretty funny. Totally different line of power.

This post focuses mostly on the first sequences with Vegas, Pete, and Khun Kan (or however we feel like spelling his name today). I won't be showing anything graphic, but there's some camera angle work that is SO interesting that I gotta dive into extra detail.

I have a few fluffier images later to lighten up the post, though, I promise. 😉

Pay close attention to the camera tilts (aka the Dutch angles) throughout this scene. I can't even cover everything because there are sooo many shots and angles, but I'll call out my favorite bits.

The two pics above establish the tilts. Vegas's angle tilts left, and Pete's angle tilts right. Their angles are leaning away from each other, like the opposing poles of magnets.

Be careful how you watch the scene... sea sickness may occur. There's lots of tilting back and forth, and when the cuts are fast, I feel like I'm on a boat that's rocking with the waves, very discomfiting.

Then we get a disruptor coming in. Hello, Khun Kan (Kun, Gun, whoever the hell you are).

This shot is so severely tilted, and Daddy Scarfs-a-lot has a biiiiiig thick line of power at his back with that unobstructed column in the foreground. He stepped in, took control of the room, and is like a crushing power looming above both Vegas and Pete.

What do we have here? Vegas is the focus in this shot, and his angle changed. THIS. THIS GOT ME.

Vegas has gone from the one abusing to the one being abused. He's taken on Pete's tilt, going to the right.

I see what you did there. I SEE IT. And I am so impressed by this choice. 🤌

Khun Namechanger takes a deep breath, cools his emotions, and returns to practical decision-making. He brings the scene into an upright position for the moment. The vertical column to the right helps steady the rocking boat that is this entire scene (though only briefly).

After Papa Goatee leaves, Vegas resumes his left-tilt angle.

FIRST SHOT: Oh hey, look, the column is tilting left, so that screws up the tilts from the establishing shots, doesn't it?

NOPE.

In the top pic here, Pete's head serves as the right tilt. If the camera were also tilted the way it usually is for him, his head would practically be horizontal, which wouldn't be any good. So Pete's right tilt still remains in effect, only with his head.

SECOND SHOT: There we go, back to normal with the pillar leaning right. Pete's head in both shots? Parallel. SO PARALLEL. Holy crap.

This is so good it blows my mind. 🤯

If anyone decides to break down every single angle from theses early VP scenes, link me, please? I'd love to see it.

Tableaus! Beautiful tableaus once again! (I explain what a tableau is back in Ep 5 LoP.) These really look like they could be sets on a live theatre stage.

Mostly I want to say how much I appreciate what they've done with P'Chan here.

This demonstrates a great way to accomplish a lot without any dialogue, using the staging to tell a story.

In the first shot, P'Chan is off to the side. He isn't really necessary to this conversation. Then for the Porsche scene, not only is his gun out, but he's looming like an avenging angle.

Peak comedy.

This is my freebie for this post. I haven't gotten a freebie for ages.

It's pretty. I like it. I could stare for hours.

Oh, and there's a damn reflection again. This show drives me mad.

Tankhun is so big here, and Porchay is so smol.

Tankhun's size is emphasized in multiple ways:

Tankhun can't even fit in the frame — the top of his head is getting cut off, emphasizing his stature.

Tankhun is in the foreground, whereas Chay is in the mid-ground.

Tankhun's fluffy jacket more than doubles his width.

These details all add up to make Chay look even more child-like than usual, out of proportion to Tankhun. His smolness is perfect for a scene where Tankhun basically adopts Chay as another little brother.

In this scene, Kim finally (at long last) makes a big breakthrough in his investigation.

Check out the background! It's an open doorway, a direction, a way forward, even if it isn't the direction he expected his sleuthing would go.

Some Thoughts on Episode 13 (Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury)

(spoilers & long)

*Most of the new footage included in the Season 2 trailer seems to have been taken from this episode, so you could think of the trailer as effectively a preview.

*There’s a few ways in which this episode hearkens back to Ep. 01, the first being an establishing shot of Asticassia from a descending elevator; Elan Ceres (aka No. 5) then starts narrating about Suletta fighting a serial duel, due to the special arrangements Shaddiq had previously made to delay challengers to Suletta’s title while Aerial was being repaired.

*Due to Guel's disappearance, Lauda's promotion to CEO, and Shaddiq's father forbidding him from being involved with dueling, there's a new Dueling Committee roster:

“Elan Ceres” (Enhanced Person No.5) - Peil House

Sabina Fardin - Grassley House

Renee Costa - Grassley House

Felsi Rollo - Jeturk House

Secelia Dote - Burion House

Rouji Chante - Burion House

*For those not familiar with Revolutionary Girl Utena, there was a similar shakeup of the Student Council from the first arc, with a couple members absent, and a new member declaring herself the next president, so this was a development I was anticipating and am pretty happy with since it looks like it will highlight some of the supporting cast.

*I am curious if Renee and Felsi are estranged half-siblings or cousins, or if they just happen to be two people with similar appearances and mannerisms who despise each other as a running gag; either way, between them and No. 5′s jaunty manner, the new Committee is shaping up to be a lively bunch.

*We learn from Rouji’s Haro that there is a rule that ”the Holder must accept a duel once every two weeks”, which is probably something that should have been mentioned earlier but does add a bit of nuance to two past events.

There was a brief exchange between Lauda and Guel in Ep. 01, when Lauda questioned why Guel accepted Suletta’s challenge, since he could have ignored her for 2 weeks at that point. However, given the Holder rule and Guel’s impulsive nature, it makes sense that he would rather deal with an annoyance now than be challenged again later (coupled with the loss of face in front of his flunkies and the fact that Suletta likely seemed to be a new ally for Miorine to use against him).

There was also the convoluted way that No. 4 challenged Suletta, which likely means that Ep. 5 took place less than 2 weeks after Ep. 3, or else No. 4 could have simply challenged her directly, and she wouldn’t have been allowed to refuse.

*Another thing that hearkens back to Ep. 01 is that Suletta absolutely thrashes her 5 consecutive opponents without breaking a sweat; at least two of them seemed to be girls, which means we have another low-key queer moment, which I always appreciate.

* We have a new opening, set to “Slash” by Yama. There’s a lot of shots of major characters, peppered with symbolism and foreshadowing that I’m going to wait on analyzing until a few more episodes are out, with two exceptions:

1) There’s an opening shot with Suletta and Miorine staring at the sky, at a distance from each other; there are ruins on Suletta’s side and trees on Miorine’s side. Towards the end, Suletta runs toward Miorine, who smiles at her (Suletta continues to be the source of 90% of Miorine’s smiles), and the two stand together looking toward the sky. This seems likely to be foreshadowing that Suletta will abandon the dark path her mother is trying to set her on, and instead rejoin Miorine (hopefully sooner rather than later).

2) Aside from Miorine and a group picture of the Earth House kids, nobody else (except Sophie Pulone) is smiling in the opening, which is understandable for Guel in particular, but is odd for Shaddiq and No. 5, since, presumably their plans are going well, so this is likely foreshadowing future troubles for them.

*Despite the smiles above, Earth House has been having a rough time since Plant Quetta, with several visibly flinching while watching Suletta’s duels. The Benerit Group has issued a cover-up, declaring what happened at the Plant to be an accident and threatening expulsion to any student who says otherwise, which effectively means none of them can talk about their experience with professional therapists (assuming any are even available). Chuchu is pissed off, especially with the terrorists (which greatly undermines any theories that she’d ever consider joining Dawn of Fold), Nika is quietly withdrawn due to guilt, and Ojelo and Lilique are huddled on the ground, seeming to be the most visibly distressed. I sigh once again at my inability to offer fictional characters hot cocoa, headpats, and therapist recommendations. Suletta, at least, seems in oddly high spirits (which is remarked upon by others) and tries to be encouraging.

*Fortunately, there’s an upcoming open campus event which might help distract Earth House, which also technically makes this a school festival episode (but with giant robots and, as we’ll see, attempted murder, since this is Gundam).

*There’s a short scene with Miorine, who is absent from school and at the Benerit Front, looking after her father during his recovery. She’s wearing a dark business dress and apparently hasn’t been sleeping properly, poor girl.

*Meanwhile the Benerit Group is investigating the Plant Quetta incident, with Sarius and Shaddiq seemingly in charge, because of course they are. They’re avoiding outright war (for now), and instead sending a small fleet to Earth to punish any terrorists (real or otherwise) they can find. Of course, anybody familiar with the real world history of the U.S.’s so-called War on Terror is likely horrified right now at the potential atrocities that are likely to occur, made worse by the fact that Benerit’s media blackout will ensure most Earthians don’t even know *why* they’re being punished.

*”I wouldn’t lie to you, Father,” lies Shaddiq.

*Shaddiq seems intent on continuing to cause chaos for the Benerit Group, summoning Sophie & Norea to infiltrate Asticassia as students.

*Suletta wonders if she did the right thing at Plant Quetta and her mom reassures her that she was right. Prospera continues to be a very effective manipulator, since she cleaves to technicalities; she’s *technically* correct that Miorine and Delling could have been killed, and realistically, killing the terrorist was probably the best way to protect them, but acting like killing at all is unambiguously good, instead of a necessary evil, and the fact that Prospera coerced her daughter into that position in the first place, instead of using her own piloting skills to help people, undermines any claims Prospera makes to being morally justified.

*Curiously, Prospera seems to be investigating the source of something that’s not explicitly stated; the only current possibility that comes to mind is that Prospera doesn’t know where Lfrith Thorn and Ur came from, and since there was previously speculation that Prospera herself was the source, if true, it raises some interesting questions.

*Suletta to Nika: “You’re a precious friend to me”, aww. While Suletta and Miorine are unquestionably my favorite characters, I also enjoy seeing their friendships with the other characters; Nika in particular, is the second person Suletta met at Asticassia, and since then has helped Suletta join Earth House, and led the mechaincs who have repaired Aerial several times. Recent events have prevented them from interacting much, so it’s great to see them have a friendship moment.

*Suletta describes her mother as “a gentle magician”, which is accurate, but I kind of hate it.

*Sophie and Norea arrive, and join Earth House.

*Sophie and Norea are *tiny* compared to Suletta, on par with Miorine.

*Big Sister Suletta!

*There’s was zero need for me to include the picture above, I just think Suletta’s facial expression is hilarious and adorable (also it somehow matched my expression with the return of this show).

*To anyone who, somehow, thinks Suletta’s bond with Miorine is ‘sisterly’, this episode is an excellent example of how Suletta interacts with someone she explicitly regards as a sister; it is notably not even slightly the same.

*Nika is less than pleased at the latest additions to Earth House, since she knows too well who they really are. She questions Norea in private, who threatens Nika with a knife (yup, just like the trailer) and tells her not to expose them. We also learn that Nika has long wanted to act as bridge between Earthians and Spacians, which is probably why she put her father in contact with Shaddiq, only to find out later that this was a terrible idea, and has been regretting it since; if Nika survives everything, hopefully she can pursue her original dream with the help of Suletta and Miorine.

*There’s a montage of Sophie and Suletta having fun at the open campus festival, with Sophie acting like a little gremlin all the while. Despite being on an undercover mission, Sophie genuinely seems to enjoy spending time with Suletta, though how much of that is genuine affection and how much is excitement with someone new and shiny (until she gets bored), is currently anybody’s guess.

*Hey, No. 5? Stop trying to take advantage of Suletta’s inexperience with sexual harrassment (due to her isolated upbringing) and pressuring her into dating you, go jump out the nearest airlock instead, kthnxdie.

*Fortunately Sophie rescues Suletta, and instead Elan encounters Norea, who has some bleak drawings, says vaguely sinister things, and steals No. 5′s datapad. No. 5 seems intrigued by her, and on the one hand, an alliance between the two would be a match made in hell and probably terrible for anyone around them, but on the other hand, it might get him to stop creeping on Suletta, so, possibly worth it.

*In another nod to the earlier episodes, Felsi & Petra get a scene! They bluster and threaten to take Suletta down during the Rumble Ring, a mobile suit mock-battle royale held at the end of the open campus event, which the Holder is required to participate in. So it looks like we’ll finally see Felsi get to pilot a suit, and might see the return of some or all of the Grassley girls as pilots, and hopefully Chuchu as well. Poor Suletta, girl does not get a break (and yes, despite her recent confidence boost, Suletta still hides behind other people sometimes).

*This is such a small, but sweet, character moment. Ojelo usually gets comedy bits, which is fine I guess, and here he’s seemingly back to his normal self, talking about money, but then makes it clear he’s doing his best to act normal to try cheer up Lilique, whom you’ll recall was displaying distress similar to Ojelo at the start of the episode, and I just...I did not expect to get attached to Earth House kids like I have, but they’re such a good-hearted bunch, who, despite the occasional disagreement, try their best to care for each other, even now after one of the scariest situations they’ve been involved in, and this is yet another example of that. I truly hope they all manage to survive the series, but I also worry.

*Speaking of worry, I legitimately thought that Nika was going to die when she confronted Norea & Sophie while they were trying to steal the Pharact. It’d be shocking for a character death like hers so soon, but the endings of Ep. 06 & 12 made it very clear that it’s a possibility, and it’s actually something I really like from a craft of writing perspective, even though it makes me squirm, about Witch from Mercury’s precise, surgical use of violence in its narrative thus far; having many, relatively light-hearted moments occasionally and unexpectedly punctuated by violence creates tension and dread at the first sign of possible conflict that constant and continual depictions of violence could never achieve.

*But Suletta arrives to save the day, speeding on a scooter, and then using its momentum to kick off into a powerslide, grabbing Nika just before the Pharact stepped on her, and then princess-carrying her to safety.

*Suletta Mercury is a character with a lot of nuance: she’s an anxious mess, an adorkable goofball, and a terrifying killer. But beside all that, one should never forget (despite the fact that it hasn’t been directly mentioned in the show, unfortunately) that she is someone who trained since her pre-teens as a rescue pilot in one of the most hostile environments in the entire solar system; to many, despite everything, she is a hero, and I 100% agree with this post that refers to her as ‘strong and gallant’.

*Before Norea guns her down, Suletta quietly apologizes to Miorine in absentia, and challenges Norea & Sophie to a duel; Sophie accepts, disagrees with Suletta’s belief that GUND technology’s purpose is to save lives, and promises to prove to Suletta that Gundams are nothing more than killing machines.

*I’ve seen some folks concerned over Suletta losing this next duel, and while possible, I don’t think it will be in a way that would cause her to lose Holder status. Consider the following:

The nature of duels in The Witch from Mercury are largely inspired by the duels from Utena, in which they were actual fights, yes, but also character studies of the participants, something that Witch has continued, using them to flesh out Guel, Elan, Shaddiq, and now Norea & Sophie as well. In this sense, the threat of loss is mostly unnecessary, with the protagonist of Utena losing only 2 of the 23 duels she fought during the TV series and movie combined. In other words, it’s not the threat of failure that makes the duels interesting, it’s what we learn about Suletta and her opponents.

...

There’s also the matter of the technical stakes versus the actual stakes of the upcoming duel. If Suletta loses the duel conventionally, then Nika would likely be killed, which I doubt will happen next episode since if she was going to die soon, it would have been this episode, and either Sophie or Norea (or both?) would end up as the new Holder and Miorine’s groom(s), which would make for a funny omake but doesn’t really feel like it would mesh with the story’s current direction. Aside from that, it also ignores the actual stakes: the clashing ideologies of Gundams as life-saving vs. Gundams as killing machines, and Norea & Sophie don’t need to technically win to achieve the victory they desire; all they need to do is put Suletta in a position where she is either forced to kill someone or let them kill someone. This is complicated by the fact that, despite Suletta’s stated beliefs, she has killed, and I suspect this duel may act as a catalyst that forces her to actually think about her actions at Plant Quetta, and just how far she’s willing to go to protect people she cares about, which may lead to the first step for Suletta in a painful but necessary journey to reconsider her mother’s role in her life, and that’s a far more interesting outcome than her losing Holder status.

*I also appreciate the parallel between Suletta squishing a man to death with her Gundam last episode, and now being on the opposite end and saving Nika from a similar fate; it’s another reason why I expect her duel with Norea & Sophie to have an impact on her character development. The Earth Witches are also shaping up to be interesting foils to Suletta, and I kinda hope they survive the conflict to see where that goes.

*There’s a new outro, featuring the song “Red:birthmark” by Aina the End, and I am currently obsessed with it.

*UTENA!

*Ahem. Witch from Mercury continues to show off its Revolutionary Girl Utena influences, while putting its own spin on them, and it’s great, and I love it. The scene above is a visual reference to one of the characters magically pulling a sword out of another’s chest for the latter to use, and given the imagery that follows, it seems to be an allegory for Aerial pulling Suletta free of Prospera’s influence and allowing her to transform into her own person.

*You should honestly just watch the video, but Suletta looks very stylish with her hair down, both as a witch in a black dress dancing with her GUND-bits, and as a dancing partner for Miorine.

*Miorine looks a bit uncertain about Suletta, but ultimately follows her lead, and it makes sense that she’s nervous since it’s a perspective of Suletta she’s never seen before (although, I personally think there’s also a tiny bit of Miorine feeling really, really gay while looking at Suletta).

*Speaking of Miorine, there’s an after-credits scene featuring her and Prospera.

*While it seems Miorine hasn’t been answering Suletta’s e-mails, she’s definitely been contemplating that dorky keychain Suletta got her.

*Miorine’s already figured out that Prospera manipulated Suletta, and Prospera responds with her typical gaslight/gatekeep/girlboss routine, pointing out that Suletta did it to save Miorine, admitting that Suletta went too far (which is very much *not* what Prospera said to Suletta), and then correctly guessing that Miorine wasn’t planning on abandoning Suletta despite this (while Prospera phrases it as ‘remaining friends’, I’ve heard this was an inaccuracy of the sub, similar to another one back in Ep. 10 that incorrectly inserted the word ‘friends’, so I’m going to trust that Prospera wasn’t being homophobic here and that the dub will be more accurate).

*Prospera then mentions to Miorine that, with Delling inactive, she wants Miorine to help her with the Quiet Zero project, which will supposedly create a world without war.

*And so the battle of wits between Miorine and Prospera begins; Miorine knows Prospera can’t be trusted, and in normal circumstances, I’m sure she would turn her down. But Miorine also knows that Prospera has some sort of influence on Suletta, and is clearly plotting something, and unfortunately the best way to find out and save her groom will involve walking straight into the spider’s parlor and accepting the offer. Miorine has repeatedly demonstrated she’s one of the smartest characters in the show, but so has Prospera, and despite being suspicious of Prospera, Miorine is also vulnerable due to her recent trauma, and her worries over both her groom and her father. If she loses, Prospera will likely either kill her or worse, but Miorine has little choice if she wants to be with Suletta (and the show makes it pretty clear that she does).

hear me out. porsche as water and kinn as fire. many ppl have drawn this comparison but. the hidden messages trailer showed kinn in red and porsche in blue. water can put out fire but they are both essential for the other. they need to be balanced - otherwise, an overabundance of either can cause a catastrophe. i noticed that water makes an appearance when kp are on the common ground and in harmony with each other:

- ep 6 kinn was so ecstatic to find water that it dampened all his anger. porsche puts water on kinn’s back to help him. them lying in the cold water and holding hands, too happy to care.

- they are both freezing in the waterfall trying to wash themselves, then find warmth when they hug each other.

- after their date and they stand behind the waterfall fixture at the compound, it serves as a barrier between them and the rest of the world they inhabit. water lends a feeling of safety and calm, enough to let them kiss at the mafia compound.

- of course, the underwater kiss. another example of the submerging of their world. they can be themselves and be together without the rest of the world getting in the way. under the water they can breathe each other in. they feel safe and content in their little world - under the protection the water offers.

- the first time kinn and porsche level with each other without hostility is the scene where porsche is being punished to wear a mermaid outfit in the fountain, and kinn offers his hand to porsche.

- porsche jumps into the water to get away from kinn in ep 1 (running away from fire and into the water)

- porsche in ep 5 putting the lighter to his lips. he wants to touch fire (kinn) but he knows he will get burned. decides he doesn’t care and that he likes the burn.

- porsche wanting to quit smoking after he and kinn are together. he no longer needs an external and artificial fire/smoke because he no longer has that deficiency. he has welcomed the fire and realised that he needs it and that it is not to be afraid of. therefore he doesn’t need any other smoke in his lungs trying to compensate for something.

- kinn and porsche kiss beside the pier. the soft moonlight reflects on the calm water before them and they feel safe to be themselves for the first time in this moment - enough so that they can kiss and give themselves to the moment.

- porsche in the shower at his house after his SA in ep 5. he lets the warm water run over him, peeling away all the dirty external layers he feels. the water returns him back to himself and he can finally breathe and see clearly again.

- kinn in the bath in ep 3. he cannot bring himself to be with another guy after witnessing porsche get shot/kill someone that day and wondering how he must be feeling. even in the bath where he is supposed to feel relaxed, he is full of tension. that’s because the water doesn’t feel right to him anymore. porsche has taken over all of his associations and there is nothing he can do. something in him belongs to porsche now.

in ep 6 kinn even says “fire and i belong together.” he is joking but it leads to him literally not able to light a fire. kinn at this point thinks he and fire belong together bc that’s what he’s always thought. meanwhile porsche has a short-cut and is able to light the fire easily. what kinn didn’t yet realise was that fire can’t light itself. it is the product of other elements. fire is a chemical reaction that converts fuel and oxygen into carbon dioxide and water — a reaction which can only appear when conditions are right. porsche balances kinn out enough to form a healthy balance, in which fire can be lit together instead of alone.

if kinn is fire, he will let himself be extinguished by porsche. if porsche is water, he will let himself burn. together they create a natural harmony that is essential to the earth, with the potential to be equally as destructive.

When the first trailer was aired in GMMTV2023 I wasn't so taken by the premise but after watching ep 1, I AM SOLD.

Nanon, in glasses?! Yes please. ("plain-looking" my ass)

Throwing shade at the US, whilst wearing a union jack tie? 😅

SING MY BELOVED!!

And I loved the physical comedy, so predictable but so funny.

And of course it's totally normal to take a guitar with you into the woods for a night of monster/alien hunting.

And this is a dynamic I didn't realise I needed.

In fact, I love the whole group - Namtan, Nanon, Sing, and Drake...and the teacher/advisor.

And I feel like the switch from Young Eng wearing glasses to present day Mew wearing glasses seems like it might be important...could this be a body swap as well as an alien abduction? Could Mew be an unreliable narrator? Is this theory going too far? 🤫

But I'm hooked. Dammit. I didn't need yet another series on the go but i didn't realise this was out already and I can't not watch Nanon. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Side-Note: From here on out, we no longer have separate entries from each of the members. Instead, we get chapters written in third person like a novel.

The people in Strictland have microchips implanted behind their ears which make them docile and obedient

Ateez and the Black Pirates hijack the propaganda speakers to play music, replacing the usual 24/7 propaganda-spreading voice called "Z" which is worshipped by the people

When they show up to perform on the streets, Ateez hand out breakers to disable the microchips and flyers to promote the arts

The flyers read the following:

You are valuable by yourself. No one can define you, and no one can control you. Being alive is imperfect, and it's beautiful to be imperfect. Read poetry, draw pictures, listen to music, dance, and sing. Therein lies your own answer. Black Pirates

However, chipless people get scared and flee (after all, they've never experienced emotions before so this much stimuli must be extremely overwhelming), while still chipped ones ignore everything and go about their days as if nothing had happened

Android Guardians move through the chaos and try to catch Ateez and the Black Pirates who, in turn, use the Cromer's ability to teleport short distances and evade capture

After Ateez's final performance, someone (we don't yet know who) finds a breaker and pockets it

We find out the government has removed reflective surfaces and blocked all sunlight to stop people from recognizing themselves and long for freedom (back in Say My Name we saw some of the mirrors that were confiscated

Additionally, they fully control people's nutrient intake through medicines and supplements

We also learn that, whenever an implanted chip fails, proving the wearer now has become fully self-reliant and free thinking, a signal is sent to the Black Link which Left Eye has set up - this will allow any nearby Black Pirates (civilians who've already joined the rebellion under their cause) to reach out to them

However, even then, if an awakened civilian doesn't wish to join their cause, they're free to live on their law-abiding lives

Back in their hideout, Ateez, the Black Pirates and Left Eye discuss their ongoing struggle to locate Z (the head of the government and main oppressor) whose hideout is the biggest secret in Strictland before they choose to focus on something they CAN do

They develop a plan to remove all window coverings and hand out mirrors all across the city to wake as many people up in one go as possible

Their 1st target: Prestige Academy

A young boy shows up at their hideout (the one from the end of Guerrilla) and pleads for help

He shares that he used the breaker on himself and his older brother but, unlike him, his brother fell into panic and was overcome with pain as a result of the cut link

The boy knows "defective" humans are taken to Guardian Island (which is where Yeosang, Left Eye, the Black Pirates, and Grimes siblings were kept) and is now terrified for his brother

Since Prestige Academy, which both boys attend, is already their first target anyway, they all hope waking up the place will save the brother as well

an honest review of orange blood from musical and conceptual observation (not proofread)

opening remarks: wow... they really let go of manifesto saga all together, huh? ngl i think they're doing this to cater towards the dark moon audience (as per what sunghoon said in the vlog they did in lotte world towards solon, "are you more famous than me? you are me."

also, i'm gonna be truthful here: i haven't kept up with their lore stuff after border era finished (actually it's more of because i've been straying from kpop a lot now). i used to read webtoons but idk man i still think that hybe is really pushing their artists into making intellectual properties so they can license it to everyone (the successful ones are tiny tan and bts universe) but when you're here for the artistry in the music and audio visual aspect of the music, you kinda feel being left behind. so, relating to another hybe artist, i kind of like txt separating from their star seekers character but dark moon is technically enhypen's (and &team's) dna now.

concept-wise visually, i think it's good. we love a sanskrit representation with ksana and kalpa, but i think it'll be more interesting if they dig deeper into what it means cosmological, mythological, etc and relate it towards dark moon, sooha/selen, the werewolves of sunshine city and more.

also, it's an interesting choice on hybe's behalf to make a comeback between &team and enhypen around the same time, especially since they are brothers-with-rivalries group (yes, i just coin that teehee)

i can go on on a tangent about how belift doesn't know where enhypen's is going long-term wise but... eh, that's for another time...

let's start!

1.mortal: intro track as always! i love the more lo-fi instrumental of it (it can be a good bgm to reflect on mortality akfbauewiue4g) i also love that every member participates here, either by monologuing or singing. it's like a poem in a short film (it could actually be in the concept trailer, cmiiw) and i think it's gonna be a good visual spectacle on concerts (which given the state of kpop now. they will do tours even for EPs, too criminal actually)

also WHY THE FUCK IS THIS LONGER THAN THE TITLE TRACK FFS (unless this is not a monologue, but dialogues between differing perspective, i agree that it should be that long) oh gosh...

2.sweet venom: AINT THIS JAKE'S ERA?! my boy!!! also WE GET A FREAKING BRIDGE ISTG YOU DON'T KNOW HOW UNEXPECTED THAT IS AS SOMEONE WHO MISSES ENHYPEN'S BRIDGES (given-taken my love). from the post i made before this, i mentioned hybe is doing something interesting and the answer is... we're returning to 2020 hybe again with their retro-sounding title tracks like chasing the feeling, god of music, and this. also, i watched the mv first before hearing the audio and i love the stop-motion mv like for real (definitely matches the music)

i definitely can see and hear the michael jackson influence for this comeback and the choreo, funk is his genre after all. but the funk is making it easy-listening that it doesn't overwhelm those who aren't funk and disco listeners. the orchestral bytes in the bridges make it nostalgic towards songs in the 90s. it definitely is trying to cater towards gen z's affection towards nostalgia (which hits me too with the mj influence, riki probably likes this comeback so much :D)

highlights? oh the three oldest hyungs get it. jake has never been the center of a comeback (it's always heeseung or jungwon) and i love that he can hold himself up, for my fellow jaeyun lover be prepared to see him in thumbnails now~ heeseung and jay's vocals? chef's kiss! get those falsettos, kings! and their runs in the verses is just so good ughh

also, another tangent of me of the vocal mixing incoming. i think it's better but niki's voice sounds unrecognizable in the audio. maybe it's because his voice hasn't stop evolving or what not but yeah, if i didn't watch the mv first, i wouldn't recognize niki's voice. also the last chorus can be given two more bars cause it just unsatisfyingly ends? and i can understand why sunghoon doesn't have that much lines here because (and don't cancel me on this) it doesn't suit his timbre much because his voice is more on the baritone range than the others who are tenor and this song is in a high key. if maybe they can lower the key like a full step than it can match his voice more...

3.still monster: emo-ballad enha? is that you? the start does sound a bit more bossa-nova ish before the drums kick in. i love how muted the instrumental is so that we can hear the vocals more. it definitely has the analog phone filter to it, kinda of reminds me of haru haru by big bang but mellower. i think i know that synth keyboard sound font is because it sounds so vintage and i like how it harmonizes with the guitar. i can definitely play bass to the song *cue me trying to make the bass tab in my free time after this*. i can hear sunghoon again yay! also we love the ad-libs at the last chorus. get it, heeseung! and this song is very heeseung actually lol

4.blind: wow... synth? at the start i think this is gonna be like cyberpunk by ateez but then it goes into a more rnb route. i almost thought also jersey club percussion, okay drum fills in the pre-chorus. and BAM... synthwave! this is more like take me home by ateez. i think this could even be an ateez song, but it's not as abrasive as the ones ateez makes. that post-chorus part though when the bass kicks in, the fuck was that? and why can't we got more of that D:?

but i actually like how slow it's taking, like they're trying to take the vibes in first, ya know? i think it is because this is their first venture to synthwave from a more rnb/hip-hop-based set of songs. they tried it with tamed-dashed but this is a mature, slower version of it. also, heeseung with the ad-libs istg!!! heeseung stop it, don't tug my heart string like that. that bounce between sunghoon and niki, we like that!

5.orange flower (you complete me): *cue onf's complete* you complete... ME~~~~ when i see the tracklist, that's the kind of song i predict with this title. and, a signature of enhypen in this album, we have a more mellow version of the style they're going with this song. they're also catering this towards gen z as this is like the type of songs that's gonna be placed in a "indie rock end credits" type of music. it's pretty predictable with a name like orange flower for it to be a feel-good song. i actually like this more than tfw cause the instrumental is more optimistic.

i also like the verses more than the chorus (kinda a bit anti-climatic for me) but it still gives of a music that you play while riding bicycles with your friends around sunset (wish i could do that again but growing up is pain ehheheheeh)

6.sweet venom (english ver): since this is just sweet venom but in a different language, i'm gonna focus more on vocal performance and lyrics.

i like how gritty they sound, like the textures in their voice i can hear it better. the way the pronounce the words is clear enough to be deciphered. i love the pre-chorus in korean version better but i know that they're trying to make the lyrics make sense in the language. idk why but heeseung sounds better here like my man wtf is on with you istg

7.sweet venom (ft. bella poarch): first: i don't have beef with bella poarch cause i don't really care about her. she's just another influencer trying to survive the internet and life honestly. i think it's also another situation how engenes are jealous because enhypen's with a girl because they're delulu that enha can only be with them through sooha lmao (read: enhypen now performing bite me with female partners) because they dig into controversies that don't really involve them (international engenes, especially westerners). i just think that what western engenes are doing with the situation is reacting the same way that korean engene react to them during bite me era. it's part of stan culture and to break it, it's gonna be hard.

second: since this is technically sweet venom eng ver with bella poarch, i'll be focusing on vocal performance and lyrics (if they decide to change it)

even from the mixing, you can hear the difference from the vocals. bella's voice is much more airy with more reverb than enha's. i also think that it makes the song more richer, especially with the harmonics, some are a bit unnecessary. but from me, this changes sweet venom's color from a full orange color towards a peachy one with bella's feminine influence.

closing remarks: i definitely didn't expect to like this album as much.

coming from unliking three enha title tracks in a row, even i can't believe that i like the sound of this album. the sound is more cohesive; a mellow rnb touch in every track as they combine with other genres (sweet venom with funk, still monster with emo-ballad, blind with synthwave, and orange flower with indie rock) yet they still try to push the boundaries of genres they wanna try.

the highlight of the overall album is definitely heeseung. he kills it with his vocal performance and i love how versatile he is as he pushes some fancy things in one song and dim it in another, creating a more diverse set of texture for each song. jay is close second because this album just shows how much of a powerhouse he is (i think his music diversification with listening to rock songs helps him with that).

when it comes to the whole comeback, imo, it doesn't really match that well from both audio and visual. it's like they have two different visions cause the theme doesn't matches with between the art and music direction. it's like if belift just said "the main theme of this album is orange." okay so what do you mean orange? like visually, the concept photo is very orange-like and the music does sound orange to me, but what is the connection here? it also definitely shows with how enha can't explained what orange blood means in one interview they did. because i don't understand what they're trying to say with the phrase orange blood. is it orange because it's like fire? is it orange because it is derived from red blood? if it's like fire, then why did we get a funk song?

also, what saddens me is the track listing like only 5 new songs + one is more like monologue. even i can see it as a scam if you actually are trying to use your money to buy an album + they have 3 versions of this album with randomized photocard. please treat your money carefully!

following the next phrase related to blood (and because of selen from the lore), it's gonna be blue blood: a term used to refer to noble birth, royalty, etc here's me hoping they do a more dpr ian miito sound for a regal comeback

My School President Live Blogging

Wow, am I finally getting to this show? The last episode comes out in a week so this is perfect timing for me technically. I'm still pretty caught up on Beyond Evil and Lee Dongshik/Han Joo Won but I believe the show can hold my attention still.

I've seen so many gifsets of this and clips and GeminiFourth tweets/tiktoks as well and it's all been soooo adorable, so I'm expecting to really like this.

I haven't watched any BL since the start of this month and haven't watched any Thai BL this year except NLMG once a week, so it took a bit to get into the right mindset for this comedic high school BL after watching and being obsessed with Beyond Evil. This was really fun though, glad to see Fourth and Gemini's faces, as well as Chinzilla friend group

I'm gonna chew on glass, such a good episode. I'm so fond of all the characters and am so smiley and giddy while watching. We're getting Gun's POV again next ep I think

The humour for this show really works for me like Sound being like oh you want me to not join? I'll join or sure! and Sound making Win come around with the "P'win nalak" comment reading and our lovely cute Gun, esp at the Booth Checking

Very good last episode. Gave us some angst and tied up some loose ends in the first half. Made me sooo giddy in the second half.

Overall:

I really liked it, especially for what it was: a cute, endearing high school BL with really endearing leads and good acting and sometimes turning tropes on their head.

I didn't love it or obsess over it the way some people seemed to but it was enjoyable nonetheless. I also loved so many of their faces lol Fourth and Prom my favourite beautiful faces but Gemini and Satang are beautiful too, not to mention Gun's mother whew!

This made me giddy and the OSTs are great and there's clear effort from the cast and crew. I liked the dynamic between the characters, whether it be how Gun and Tinn took turns being bold and shy or the parent-child relationships or Chinzhilla band. I might increase the rating by 0.5 if the characters continue giving me brainrot.

Ah, it has certain of the same parts but the new story is so much better. The trailer showed some of the usual tropes of pitfalls of high school BL and I'm glad the final show managed to make them fresh and interesting. Also Fourth looks like a babyyy. I guess he was 17/18 during the final filming and so was probably 16/17 during the trailer but he looks more than just a year younger - aw child

Helluva Boss Theory “Season 2 Trailer, Who Was The Person In The Hospital Scene”

in helluva boss trailer for season 2, in the very last scene we see a arm putting a phone away on the table, and what looks like an IV attached to their arm, and the table seemed to have a pot of flowers, pretty “get well soon flowers”

i have two theories on who this person could be, stolas or fizzarolli

why stolas?

we know for a fact stella is trying to get stolas killed and that striker is an active threat to him, yes while he is a royal prince and can order bodyguards to protect him, and he himself is a very powerful being, that doesn’t make him invincible, the weapon is powerful enough to kill demon royalty

i originally thought stolas might’ve accidentally overdosed on his pills and or alcohol, since he is shown to be a very heavy drinker, but i don’t think it’s very likely, one reason is because he wouldn’t do that since that would hurt octavia deeply to see her father in such a state, and another reason being that royal demons like stolas are powerhouses that cannot be taken down easily, and i think it would be to simple of a incident for a plot so serious

why fizzarolli?

we know from what little backstory that fizzarolli was in the entertainment industry ever since he was a kid, it was clear he was an imp with normal limbs, however now, fizzarolli is nearly unrecognizable, you can’t even tell he’s an imp, and he has robotic limbs, my theory is that, after an audition to get into the big leagues, fizzarolli was offered to have his limbs removed and be replaced with robotic limbs, basically sell your body and your soul in exchange for fame, money and glory, he did and it worked, he’s now hell’s most famous jester, however, it came at a price, i personally think he was checking his phone to reminisces on the times when he was at the circus as a kid with blitz

i personally see this as the most likely one, because to me it makes the most sense, and in seaon 2 ep 1, we see the kid fizzarolli and blitzo playing with their horses and blitzo described his horses limbs to be cut off, and the horse id green, fizzarolli mean colour is green, this is either foreshadowing, or i’m just looking to much into things

Now that I've had some time to marinate in the spicy sauce that was episode 10 I have some predictions for the remaining episodes. In no particular order:

I think Kinn and Porsche will at least somewhat mutually agree to let Porsche quit so he can fix things with Porchay. This will allow for the "was shagging him worth it?" scene with Porsche's uncle. And after some things happen (Porchay finding out who Kim really is maybe) this will also allow for the handshake scene between Kinn and Porsche and the "I'm on your side" scene from the trailer

Kim will further distance himself from or outright avoid Porchay. I think after what happened in ep 10 Kim will feel like he flew too close to the sun and that his potential happiness with Porchay isn't worth him being in danger. This may lead to the break up scene Jeff mentioned.

The Porsche to Kim to Porchay connection will be complete. Porsche will find out who Kim is and his relationship with his little brother. Porchay will find out the truth but I'm not sure if it will come from Kim or Porsche. Bonus points if Porsche knows who Kim is not because he's the 3rd heir but because Porchay just would not stop showing him Wik videos and that he's seen the shrine. Bonus bonus points if it causes Kim angst knowing hearing how much he's always meant to Porchay

Our favorite pathetic little meowfioso will fall in love (or lust perhaps given how many eps are left) with Pete and Pete will either be found and taken back, escape, or will convince Vegas to let him go. There's a lot of Beauty and the Beast parallels to be made with VegasPete honestly. Belle (Pete) takes the place of her Papa (Porsche) in exchange for his freedom, for example. I think that Vegas' fragile and upset state after having to let Pete go will be exploited or made worse by his Dad causing the big family feud. Pete will help Vegas channel himself and without him he'll be all over the place and looking for an outlet. He's already balancing on the edge of a knife it might not take much to tip him over.

Porschay will be more understanding and willing to let Porsche go back to Kinn once he learns the truth about everything and is brought into the fold.

I think there will be at least 1 more side story that might take place between 12 and 13.

I think the video Porchay is watching while crying from the trailer will be post KimChay breakup and will most likely be either Why Don't You Stay or a new song for the OST from Kim about his feelings for Porchay. Perhaps the song he was writing in ep 9?

I'm trying to think of all the things we know we have left that we know are happening that we haven't seen. The Pool, TimeTayTem, the Family Feud, and there's things I know happen in the novel that kind of have to happen in the series (like what's up with Korn, and the mystery of Porsche and Porchay's parents). Plus I'm still super curious about Mile's favorite scene that involves a red hallway.

(TBH since Vegas' secret room has a red hallway I briefly thought do Kinn and Porsche rescue Pete and the have a little fun by themselves in there? But that I think would be too weird)

HotD S1e8

Another week, another trailer for me to entertain myself with, yay! But first.... DRAGONS:

As per usual, this is going to contain BOOK SPOILERS. Proceed at your own risk. Also, this ep includes the last of the time jumps. I'm not sure exactly how many years, but we'll be getting adult actors for all the older kids, so at least a few years.

After a boat returning to the red keep (probably Rhaenyra and Daemon returning to the city from Dragonstone.), we get this shot of goddamned OTTO about to sit his trash ass on the throne. Now, in this ep Viserys called Alicent Aemma accidentally and I think that it meant two things. 1, he's getting some variety of dementia. 2, this is like the same kind of thing that happens to the elderly when they get close to dying. Like when they say that their predeceased spouse or other loved one is coming to guide them home or something. He's dying AND he's incapable of ruling, and so of course the Greens are taking advantage of it. Although admittedly, the Hand often sits the throne when the king is sick, so it's not weird, I just don't like them. :P

Next we have a shot of Rhaenyra in the throne room on a different day. Again, she and Daemon return to the city after a few years. Behind her to the left is Jace, and I *think* Baela to the right.

I think most people know this, but in case you don't: in the book, the Greens and the Blacks get their names because Alicent and Rhaenyra wear two dramatic dresses to a tourney celebrating Viserys and Alicent's 5th anniversary. In the show, they only had the 1 tourney, so Alicent's green dress happened Laenor and Rhaenyra's wedding welcome thing, but Rhaenyra hasn't had her dress moment yet. I think this is probably going to be her dress moment. This dress is very dramatic and intricate, it's targ colors, and it's implied by the voiceover of the trailer that she has returned unexpectedly.

Here's another shot from the series trailer of the same scene:

Team Usurper looking very medieval painting. From L --> R: Crispin, Aegon the Sulky, Random Kingsguard, Aemond One-Eye, Helaena the Cinnamon Roll Dreamer (actually I have this feeling that in the show she's gonna be less sweet. But she IS dressed much lighter here to make her stand out.), Alicent the Worst, and Otto the Garbage Hightower. Rhaenyra's voiceover says "tomorrow the hightowers land their first blow", and following this shot is one of Aegon smirk/smiling which means something happened that the Blacks won't like, so this is probably that, although I'm not sure what it is.

These next two should be taken together. The first is a window in the small council room with a symbol of the 7 in it, and then it pans down to Alicent sitting below it. She is now sitting at the head of the small council. She is covered in the symbols of the faith, which means she's really leaning hard into piety and purity. Also notice how Alicent's hair here is pinned up and her neckline is high, de-sexualizing her appearance and emphasizing her moral purity. It makes her look matronly, harmless, and stately, and severe. She's again using her clothing as a declaration, just as she did with the green dress. She's also using her clothing to make her look less feminine, because now she's taking an even larger role in ruling. I think that young Alicent had a lot in common with Anne Boleyn, but I think that adult Alicent is just straight up Lady Margaret Beaufort. She was very involved in the War of the Roses, and following Edward's death and the subsequent deaths of all of his heirs, the throne passed to Edward's brother, Richard III. She goes to war with him over the claim of her son, Henry Tudor. She wins, and he is crowned Henry VII. She also becomes more religious later in live and takes a vow of chastity. So this might be them discussing something when Rhaenyra arrives, or discussing her arrival. That kind of thing.

Ok this next one took me a hot second to figure out, partially because Miguel Sapochnik has never met a dark AF scene he didn't love, but there's two options here. This is Viserys laying in bed. When you zoom in you can see that the right side of his face is covered in bandages, and that's the same side of his face that we see him wearing the mask over. The woman who is walking towards the bed has long Targ hair, so it's not Alicent. The way I see it there are 2 options for this scene. First, this is Rhaenyra and what we're seeing is her last private moment with her father before he dies. That she comes back to KL to find Otto and Alicent ruling in his stead, and she goes to see for herself how he is. That's definitely possible. However! I have a more...interesting...option. This is happening during a thunderstorm, and obviously at night. If Rhaenyra came to visit, why wouldn't she take at least a candle to see her way with? Instead, I think instead he's hallucinating the ghost of Aemma. It's his final days, and she has come to either condemn him for her murder and for his poor leadership, or she has come to take him with her. Like I mentioned above, a lot of elderly people start seeing loved ones at the end of their lives, why not Viserys? He's become increasingly focused on her memory in the last two eps, so it could be foreshadowing. Hell, if this episode ends with his death, then this could be that scene. He's said to die peacefully in his sleep, and so this could be that. There's also something about the figure's hair that reminds me of how Aemma wore it in that scene where she's talking to Rhaenyra. (Also I tried to lighten it up a bit for you guys, but there's only so much photoshop can do.)

This next shot is of Corlys's brother, Vaemond, while Daemon's voiceover says "the Sea Snake has taken a grave wound in the battle in the Stepstones". So it looks like you're right @nobodysuspectsthebutterfly and this episode is primarily about who inherits Driftmark.

This is Crispin training Aemond. In the books it specifically says that Crispin trained Aemond harder in order to compensate for his missing eye, and Aemond becomes a good fighter because of it, so it looks like they're keeping true to this part. This is probably what they're up to when Rhaenyra & Co. shows up.

The Queen Who Never Was - one of my fav characters in ASOIAF - dressed up and sitting in the Driftwood Throne while talking to Vaemond about the inheritance of Driftmark. Vaemond is looking pretty pissed in this scene, so with Corlys down and out for the moment, I have a feeling she's pressing Baela's claim to Driftmark and Vaemond is less than pleased. Now, in the book Rhaenys dies with Meleys and Rhaenyra has the Sowing of the Seeds, and that's when Corlys brings two bastards to court: Addam and Alyn of Hull. He says they're Laenor's, but most think they're his because Laenor was gay. Addam then claims Seasmoke. In the show, Laenor's death was faked and he leaves to go to Essos, which means that Seasmoke is still bound to him. But at this point in the story on TV, Rhaenys blames Daemon for Laena's death and Rhaenyra for Laenor's. Why would a person who is that angry at Rhaenyra give her life in battle on the side of the blacks? I don't think she would. I mean, maybe, because she's related to them by marriage and given the choice of Hightowers vs Targs she'd choose Targs, but...Aegon II is also a Targ, and if she were THAT angry...IDK. What I suspect might happen instead is that Rhaenyra either tells her the truth about Laenor, or the events of this episode lead to a rift between Corlys and Rhaenys that's so bad he doesn't feel shame about bringing the two bastards to court early - while she is still alive. Perhaps Addam is actually Laenor with one of those fancy illusion jewels that Melisandre and book!Bloodraven use to disguise themselves, and he reveals himself to his mother. If Rhaenys knew that Rhaenyra gave Laenor his freedom out of love, she'd probably get real loyal real quick. Regardless, I think that this shot means that Rhaenys - the Queen Who Should Have Been - is going to be come out to play next episode.

I'm pretty sure this is the Blacks' surprise arrival in King's Landing. This is Jace and Luc, some of the small council (I can't remember who that guy on the right is), and some Kingsguard. Crispin skulking around in the background. Something gets their attention, so I have a feeling this is the Hightower boys entering the yard after the arrival of their sister and nephews. Probably to do some shit talking, because it looks like later in the trailer there's a meal with just the kids and a fight breaks out at the kid's table. This return to KL isn't described in the books, but there is a lot of talk about the parties of the Greens and Blacks at court, so it would make sense that she traveled back and forth. It wouldn't have been that hard given that she had Syrax. So this might fill in some of that and establish some of the sides of the other houses.

The next shot is going to include 3 pics after this one of Rhaenyra. First is Daemon picking up a really gooey egg. Second is someone climbing down a crevasse, and the last is Daemon holding a less gooey egg. The second shot is from the "weeks ahead" trailer so I think what happens is that Daemon goes climbing around on Dragonstone to get an egg for one of his kids. Daemon gets Rhaenyra pregnant 3 times, with two successful births, Aegon the Younger and Viserys. Visenya comes out twisted and dies. Now, there is this BTS photo of Rhaenyra and Daemon at the Red Keep (that's the same yard as in the scene where the boys fought in e6, and Daemon has mid-length hair here.):

Which seems to show Rhaenyra as being pregnant. In the books, when her father dies and the war breaks out is when she gives birth to Visenya, who ends up twisted and dying. She blames this on Alicent's trouble-making and delaying telling her about her father's death. Now, episodes 7-8 are the last time jump for the season, and her father dies this season, so realistically she's likely pregnant with Visenya here, which means that Aegon III and Viserys are probably on Dragonstone. Both boys get eggs, although only Aegon's hatches. So I think what Daemon is doing in the hiking and gooey egg scene is retrieving an egg for his next child's cradle. It also could be an egg for Rhaena, as she is given a few of Syrax's to try and hatch an egg from, but I don't think so bc a, why would he wait so long and b, Morning is pink so her egg should be pink and not bronze.

Given the coloring, it looks like it could be one of Syrax's. She's known to have produced several clutches.

Next up is Jace, standing after angrily smacking the table, with Aegon to his left. Both kids are color-coded, and Aegon seems to not have gotten any better about being an alcoholic. There are a few shots here within the trailer of this scene, and the basic gist is that there's another brawl, and it's likely that Aegon and Aemond goad Jace, Luc, Baela, and Rhana into it. Especially Jace bc he's an older teen now, so he's firmly in his "stupid hormonal teen boy needing to prove he's a man or someshit" phase and the bastardy is his soft spot. Actually, this is probably the "three strong boys" toast that Aemond gives at a feast, resulting in a brawl.

There's also this image from one of the earlies series trailers, and it's probably from whatever is going on at the adult table while this is happening at the kid's table. I lightened it - like I did with most of these images - and it seems like the space between them is an empty place setting. It's probably where Viserys should be, but he isn't well enough to attend or something.

Next interesting shot is this one of a woman who I think is Mysaria, and a person coming to see her. Probably Daemon in his Murder Cloak, so he's up to no good. I think we'll get an answer this week as to whether or not she's working for him or Otto. She also later becomes Rhaenyra's mistress of whispers, so it's possible that this is the beginning of that. It's kind of implied that she was in some way involved in Blood and Cheese, IIRC, so we might be getting some foreshadowing for that.

Next is a shot of Rhaenyra wearing a coat over that dress (I think, as the necklace is the same.), saying "this is a trap". It's a different coat than the one she arrives in, and tbh it looks a lot more Dragonstone-y in the background than Red Keep-y. But the hair is the same, so it kinda has to be the same trip/point in time. I *think* she's talking to Daemon, even though the hair seems a bit long, or possibly Rhaenys? Probably Daemon and the angle is just weird. It's probably paired with her saying "tomorrow the Hightowers land their first blow". Whatever happens while they're in KL is somewhat obscured by the trailers, and I can't really think of what it is as far as events go, so this might be some more of the interesting fleshing out of the book by the show. Either that, or Otto has Vaemond killed over the succession thing and that's what Rhaenyra is talking about. Vaemond isn't really their ally, but if they think Corlys is going to die, then they might think that Vaemond's loss is a blow. In the books *she's* the one that kills him and feeds him to Syrax, so that seems unlikely. That would suck, because the drama of someone being fed to Syrax would be fun. Perhaps they think Otto is going to rule against Luc and give Driftmark to Vaemond, and then Viserys surprises everyone by showing up to court in that scene where he's wearing a mask, and ruling in Rhaenyra's favor and allowing Luc to keep his claim to Driftmark.

Next is Aemond "Hapsburg chin" One-Eye brandishing a sword. This is likely the other side of the arrival/yard scene that I showed above with the Velaryon boys in it. I'm only adding this so I can make the Hapsburg chin joke and so you can see how much it makes him resemble Matt Smith. :P

Next is Vaemond rolling up to King's Landing. My guess is that he didn't get the answer he wanted from Rhaenys, so he decided to go over her head. I *think* the two men with him might be Daeron and Daemion Velaryon, Vaemond's sons. It's honestly hard to tell because they made Vaemond Corlys's brother rather than his cousin, so I don't know if that means they eliminated the other 5 cousins. Those 5 cousins go with him to press the claim, and have their tongues cut out by Viserys for repeating the thing about the boys being bastards. I can't imagine they'll kill of Daeron, at least, because he is the father of Daenaera Velaryon; Aegon III The Younger (Daemon's eldest son w/ Rhaenyra) marries her later on. If they're not Daemon and Daemion, then they're Malentine and Rhogar Velaryon. IDK tho because they're both white dudes. I guess if they were cousins they could be white.

And that's it, that's the trailer. There's more in this one than I thought there would be, and sadly no dragons, but I guess we can't have dragons every week, lol.

I'm so confused about the timeline. I think that everything is happening concurrently in the week of spring break but then the scenes of Hawkins High make me think that they are not on spring break.

When is the Cali group expected to arrive in Hawkins?

What are your theories on how the Hawkins group is going to free Nancy from Vecna if they don't know her favorite song. Maybe that is why they had Robin being nosy in her bedroom and she'll have some educated guess based on seeing a tape or something?

So ep 1 is the day before Spring Break begins, Friday, March 21, 1986 (that’s why the Hawkins HS scenes and Lenora Hills scenes are taking place). Then Spring Break begins the next day. I’ve put a whole long timeline below; you can pretty much track the days, but things get confusing in ep 7 because a lot of it appears to be taking place overnight between Wednesday, March 26-Thursday, March 27, I think.

I don’t think Cali gang will arrive in Hawkins until ep 9. That could be March 28, but much more likely March 29. They weren’t in ep 7 and maybe they won’t show any of the drive to the silo, but they have to reunite with El, there’s a salt bath scene, a night stop at a gas station, and idk if they’ll show any of the drive back to Hawkins or how long that will take from Nevada. They could just show one scene of them on the road or the other scenes count enough so they just show them arriving back in Hawkins (I bet that will be so emotional for all of them to see it again!)

Re: how Nancy’s saved; I’m so curious about this too. I wonder if they’ll use music again (in which case yes, Robin did go through her tapes; I like that theory—altho they aren’t near her tapes), or if Steve will do anything, or if there’s anything else that can get you out of Vecna’s trance, or if Vecna lets her out of the trance. It’s interesting that he didn’t stalk her at all before hand—he pulls her in and shows her his full backstory, but to what purpose? You’d think he’d def want to kill her bc he’s revealed so much, and yet he wasn’t going after her exactly the same way—is he so confident he won’t get caught he shows her all this anyway to just mess with her and then lets her go? But I prob lean towards there would still have to be a big rescue moment for her (I’m also assuming that Eddie moment is during Creel house battle but all the things they’d have at their disposal are what’s in Eddie’s trailer). Anyway, how Nancy gets out of Vecna’s trance is going to be so huge to see! Really curious what the writers choice is there and if anyone else has any theories on it, lmk what you think.

But I think when ep 8 resumes it will still be Thursday, March 27?
