Hi! I just wanted to say that I discovered your top 30 Richonne list a few days ago and I've been down the meta rabbit hole you've so wonderfully crafted this entire week so far. I've cried and smiled so much reading them. Each post is just so beautiful.

I was reading one of your Reveling in Richonne posts this morning for episode 10 x 04 where Michonne talked with Ezekiel about how much she still misses Rick and loves him so much and that she misses his walk and now I can't get over it. Now I'm thinking about all those times when she looked at Rick walking towards or away from her pre- and post-canon where she would be thinking the man I'm crushing on, then eventually the man I love is so sexy. Is there any chance you can do a post speculating those moments where they are both checking each out specifically regarding Michonne checking out Rick's walk?

Also I cant wait for you to do a Reveling in Richonne continuation based on TOWL 👀? So excited! Lastly I just need you to know that my Richonne withdrawals have been pretty bad now that TOWL has concluded. So discovering your blog and your metas have been giving me my whole entire life and I just want to say thank you and that I really appreciate all the thought and beauty you put into your posts. I’m feeling it too and really miss seeing them on screen each week. 🥲 Thank goodness we were spoiled with years of richonne content that I’ve just been playing on a loop in my head. The second I'm finally able, I'm looking forward to going all out and writing about every golden moment from TOWL. The towl thoughts and observations are abundant lol.

And I really like that thought of highlighting the times that Michonne was looking at Rick and thinking this man I'm crushing on and later in love with is so sexy. I can definitely speculate on those moments and I've placed my extra self’s speculation right below. 😊⬇

I focused on Michonne specifically for this one because if I were to make a list of times Rick was looking at Michonne and thinking this woman I'm crushing on/in love with is so sexy it would be wildly long because it's every single moment he and Michonne are on screen together. Like truly from TWD 3.06 at the fence to the TOWL 1.06 finale Rick looks like he's thinking that. 😋 While Michonne can be a little more subtle than Slick Rick, she's still head over heels for her husband and I think I pinpointed some clear moments where she was noting how fine her man is and appreciating that walk. 😏 Thanks again for reading my posts and for this kind message! 💗

Moments Michonne Was Checking Out Her Man’s Walk/Thinking Rick Is Fine 😋

Exhibit A:

It started real early if you ask me. 😌 At this point our Michonne had been abandoned by her only friend, unsuccessfully gaslit by the governor, chased down and shot by Merle, and passed out killing walkers at the prison fence. She’d been put through a whole lot in mind and body…but her eyes clearly still work just fine as she seems to be taking in this handsome stranger in front of her.

And sis is an observant person so I wouldn’t at all be surprised if she had a conscious thought that this man from the prison is attractive, even here in their first exchange. Thinking about how she described Maggie and the Governor based on appearances in this ep, I’d bet that had Michonne had to describe Rick this early, some type of good-looking adjective would‘ve been used.

(*Also the footnote for all of these bits of evidence is that Rick is absolutely captivated by her in each of these moments too 💯)

Exhibit B:

Clear is where that Richonne attraction was loud and on display from both of them. We don’t see Rick walk away in this scene at the end of the ep but uh Michonne does. 😊 And of course she likes what she sees with that lingering look and smile she gives. And all that car key shuffling - it’s giving Rick is pretty eager but maybe she is too 🤭

Exhibit C & D:

I put these two moments side by side because I love how similar they are in the way Rick walks up to her and the way Michonne smiles at him. To think one scene is during their early s4 crush era and the other is during their s7 honeymoon ep, just goes to show these two have been smitten a long long time and always will be. In both moments I know Michonne loves seeing his walk just like Rick loves seeing her smile.

Exhibit E:

As she observes Rick here, I think Michonne has a lot of thoughts going through her head, which naturally are deeper than just checking him out. On a larger level, she’s realizing that Rick has unique qualities that she loves and respects and recognizes in her own self. She saw firsthand the way Rick walks the walk when it comes to protecting his family and she’s fallen in love with him. But I think an appreciation for his literal walk can be included in those thoughts during this scene as she starts to slowly become more cognizant that she sees Rick as a lot more than just a friend.

Exhibit F (Pt. 1 & Pt. 2):

I may have forgot if this was a list of Michonne’s thoughts or mine with exhibit f lol. But I’m just gonna venture to say that she and I shared the same appreciation for Rick’s walk in that barn. It’s Season 5 Rick - of course Michonne was feeling a type of way about him. And she might not have agreed with him punching Aaron but I know she wasn’t mad at that walk.

Exhibit G:

Seeing Rick’s clean-shaven face for the first time was Michonne’s most blatant display of attraction towards him pre-canon and she was definitely noting how fine he is. And from my posts on the scene, it’s no secret how much I love this moment and it’s no secret how much these two were into each other. I also just added a later s5 moment of Rick seeing Michonne in the constable windbreaker for the first time because it gives a similar energy. It’s cute how Rick and Michonne both have such obvious attraction and intrigued reactions to seeing each other in ways they haven’t seen each other before.

(That’s also why I thought it was so funny and doomed that their plan was to pretend like they don’t know each other at the CRM because Richonne hasn’t been able to mask their blazing attraction to each other since season 3)

Exhibit H:

This is such a sweet moment and I always adore seeing the slightly bashful way Michonne can’t help but stare at her man and smile after their first night together. And the way Rick can sense her looking at him and then smiles and reaches for her. It gives me life. This had to make this list because I’m pretty sure “the man I love is so sexy” is one of the direct quotes from Michonne’s mind in this scene.

Exhibit I:

Even when injured Rick’s walk is hot and Michonne knows it. 😋 The scene above and a couple more in this episode were clear signs of Michonne admiring her man inside and out. They were both so cute and couply and in love in this ep and I’ll never get over it.

In The Ones Who Live…

Each of these towl moments deserves dissertations so I’ll wait to elaborate because dissertations are coming later on. But I still had to include them on this list because they’re prime examples of Michonne loving Rick’s walk and/or loving how sexy her husband is - with the last one being the pinnacle 😍

I think it’s fair to say that TWOL has given us license to claim Rick and Michonne been soulmates since the very beginning (which is different than when they may have consciously realized they were in love), simply because this series has been so intensely romantic that it almost seems to be encouraging us to read them this way. Which makes all your romantic interpretations of their scenes as canon lol it’s amazing cause I remember some posts where you were like ‘maybe I’m reading too much into this’ but Andy and Danai said nope! You’re absolutely correct! Knowing how much pain and silent suffering they carried alone before they met each other (and still endured), it never fails to move me that they found intrinsic understanding and the kind of devotional love they had probably only dreamt about, in each other.

First, just had to highlight that quote because what you wrote was beautiful and spot on. 🔥 I agree, I love that TOWL confirmed Rick and Michonne’s soulmate status at every turn. Andy and Danai made sure it was clear that so much of what fuels their characters is Richonne’s love and not only was it great to watch, it’s true to the characters and how they operated in twd too.

And your words really made me smile because I remember a couple of those past posts where I wondered if I was drawing more from certain scenes than was there. (Like when Rick asks if Michonne needs help in season 4 and she says do your thing - now I'm confident he was out there that morning deliberately to get time with her) I don’t doubt those richonne details anymore because their journey has been an epic love story from day one, so each scene really is a special thread in the fabric of their romance.

One of the many gifts TOWL gave us is how now we get to watch every scene from the mothership with fresh eyes and a heightened awareness that these two soulmates have always been drawn to each other on a cosmic level. 🙌🏽

I keep rereading your top 30 list and you completely broke down my favorite scenes and why this is my crackship. So often in BW/WM relationships the woman isn’t cherished or treated like she’s beautiful without being fetishized. But from the moment Rick met Michonne he adored her, respected her, listened to her. Reading how your interpretations of their interactions is so validating and the naysayers need to get on board ASAP!

Thanks so much for this message and reading/re-reading the Top 30! I love that these posts are validating, especially since part of why I started this blog is because I remember thinking there are way too many receipts pointing to Richonne being a top tier love story in media for anyone to try and deny it, and I wanted to break it all down.

And I wholeheartedly agree about how Michonne is so genuinely cherished by Rick in a way that is rarely depicted on screen and irl. It’s super meaningful. What’s especially great too is when it comes to Rick’s utter adoration and respect for Michonne, the shows never pat themselves on the back for it or forces it - they just approach it like this is how passionately and organically a man can and should love the incredible love of his life. I adore that Rick never once reduced Michonne to just a ‘weapon with a weapon’ and with each new layer he saw of her, he treasured her even more. ♡

Hi! 1) This is so sweet, thank you! I hope you're having a great week as well. 😊 2) Yes! I have a feeling my brain won’t let me rest until I’ve put all my thoughts and analysis of TOWL into words so I’ll definitely be breaking it all down at some point. I’m still in awe over this dream-come-true series and processing everything. But the note-taking has already begun! Once I have some more time and can give the series a proper rewatch I’ll be reveling in it all and dissecting every detail. Would you ever update your reflections on Richonne series incorporating what we know from TOWL?

I was rewatching the scenes I have stored from S6-9 last night and its not quite like watching for the first time again, but there is just so much more information to look for. Looking for Rick holding back because of Carchonne. Looking for Michonne's "loving on each other is what makes the world make sense." What it means that she frequently was doing her own thing, but only felt safe when she was with him. [Did she feel unready for safety? Unready for home?]

Like there is just so, so much to incorporate.

Hello! Thank you for this! I love the moments you mentioned and that’s such a great question to think about Michonne’s initial approach to feeling her safety was tied to Rick. There are so many main show moments throughout Richonne’s journey that have a compelling added layer to them now thanks to TOWL - especially knowing Rick was aware he was in love with his son’s best friend and how that clearly impacts him holding back (or at least trying to hold back because slick rick still couldn’t help but show how much he was falling for her 😋)

I had made a note to myself that whenever I sit down to fully analyze TOWL I want to highlight any moments from the main show that connect, parallel, or are now informed by what we got to see and learn in this miniseries. So I’ll definitely be taking a look back at their whole journey and referencing to these things when I’m able to write out my many reflections on The Ones Who Live. I’m still emotional and marveling over the fact that a beautiful miniseries dedicated to Richonne’s epic love story exists and gave us solid gold moments in every episode. Like you said, there is so much to incorporate. Once I’ve processed and time frees up, I can’t wait to revel in each detail with everyone 😊

What a joy and an honor to have loved Richonne's epic love story as hard as we could while we could. 🥹

Richonne means so very much to me and always will. To say their story has impacted my life for the better would honestly be an understatement. Rick and Michonne and their journey together from season 3 to TOWL played a part in keeping me going because life gets hard but the love captured between these characters is such an inspiring light that is exquisite and powerful and worth sticking around to behold.

And while 'it feels like it's ending'…it’s like Michonne said - they don’t die and neither does the love we have for them. We’ll be able to cherish Richonne and every single breathtakingly beautiful moment they gave us always. Richonne are the ones who live, the ones who love like no other, and the ones who will eternally hold a special place in my life.

This one-of-a-kind, out-of-this-world, moving beyond-words love story between profound soulmates Rick and Michonne Grimes - two of the greatest characters in media brought to life by the phenomenal Danai Gurira and Andrew Lincoln, two of the greatest actors in the craft - it lives on forever. And for that, I’m truly thankful. 🤍

Rick and Michonne got their happy ending with their precious children. 😭 They won. We won. 🙌🏽🎉

Also! In honor of that deleted picnic scene, (which I would have loved to see make the final cut) I just thought I'd share my little headcanon ending scene. A few days before the towl finale, I had this vision of a Grimes Family picnic moment being the final shot of the show, but of course, my vision includes a Carl cameo to complete the Grimes Family moment. This is what I had written down and imagine as a day for their family now that they're back together as they're meant to be:

Rick and Michonne have another Family Fun Day picnic with their kids. There’s this calm quiet moment where Judith is snuggled up to Michonne happily reading the book her parents brought home for her on the blanket, RJ is resting with Rick’s arm around him, Michonne is nestled by Rick’s side, and then Rick looks out and sees essentially the spirit of Carl standing from afar. Rick and his son share this warm smile as Carl gives a proud nod signaling this is everything he’s wanted for his dad - to feel safe and happy with their family just like Carl wrote to Rick in his letter.

And then Michonne looks at Rick and asks, “You see something?” And Rick just looks in Michonne’s eyes, smiles at her and says a content, “Yeah” before kissing her - finally seeing and experiencing the family he thought he’d lost for good but they’re all with him now. And then it ends with Richonne doing their signature thing of holding hands while enjoying this hard-earned and much-deserved day of peace with their family. 🥰

That, along with the abundance of golden moments we actually got within this miniseries and the main show, is how I'll forever remember my beloved Richonne and their Grimes family. Resilient love personified. It's been an unforgettable journey and I'm grateful for every part of it. Thank you, Andy & Danai. Thank you, Rick and Michonne. Long Live Richonne. 👑

What The Ones Who Live has made abundantly clear is that finding Rick and bringing him home was a mission fit for Michonne, and Michonne alone. Because Rick didn’t just need to be brought back home - he needed to be brought back to life.

Sure, other characters could have located him and tried to rescue him from the CRM, but Rick needed more than a rescue…he was in need of a resurrection. And there’s only one person on the planet capable of doing that for him and it’s his wife, the love of his life, Michonne Grimes.

Rick is a man who for all intents and purposes chose to die because he couldn’t see her face anymore and started to believe he never would again. He was only ever going to come alive again when her eyes, her presence, her heart was back in his life. He was only ever going to be free from not just the literal but mental shackles of the CRM when he could hold her in his arms again and reconnect with the woman whose heartbeat he shares.

I love how this story stayed consistent to the message that was true in the main show as well, and that’s that Rick needs Michonne. And Michonne needs him too. Rick’s relationship with Michonne is the one dynamic in his life where he’s poured into as equally and deeply and lovingly as he pours into her. Where he doesn’t have to be anything but himself. It’s the one relationship that can bring him back time and time again no matter the circumstances.

Richonne is a love supreme because they are two halves of one heart. So saving him - not just in body but in heart, mind, and soul - it could only ever have been her. 😌
