When good people do nothing ...

The other side wins. It’s that simple. Before you “withhold your vote” (for whatever reason) try to imagine what happens if the other side wins. The GOP are not quiet about what they want. They want the power to reverse election results. They want to limit who can vote. They want to get in between women and healthcare providers. They want to make cuts to social security. They want to reduce support for the Ukraine. They want to control the academic exchange of ideas to keep a very narrow segment of society comfortable, even if it means lying to children in schools. They want to replace science with ideology. They want to stop investigating the crimes of the last president and the insurrectionists and start retaliatory investigations to waste time and tax payer money instead of dealing with our many, very real problems. They want to create a system in which they will never again lose control of the government.  They are not quiet about this. Believe them. There can be no, “I didn’t know what would happen.” They are telling you. When good people do nothing, the other side wins. Can you live with that? Vote. Find at least three associates who are planning to not vote and get them to the polls.

To all my American friends. With only a few hours left, please make sure your vote counts. It’s more important now than ever before.

Regardless of your political affiliation, always vote at every election. For everything from abortion to minimum wage, the amount of time it takes to vote is minimal in comparison to the impact it will have on your life. People died for the right of universal suffrage. It really is that important.

Roe is not the end. Not even close. Clarence Thomas filed a concurring opinion calling to overturn the right to contraception, same-sex marriage, and privacy in the bedroom. This is their ultimate goal. If Republicans gain a majority, they are going to attempt to pass federal legislation on these issues, no longer making it a states’ rights issue either. Get every person you know to vote in this goddamn election—not because we can vote our way out of fascism, but because voting is the bare minimum. Get involved. Wake up and realize how unsafe you are. I know this is Tumblr, but I am a real lawyer telling you the Court has signaled that your entire lives can be upended. Do not be complacent.

I have made NINE drafts of this flipping chapter over the last two months and I have Struggled and Fought every single scene of it and FINALLY it is all coming together but I don’t know if I should post it tonight or if I should wait until next week so I can stick to the regular posting schedule.
