the first internet fandom i was in was for the hunger games when i was 11. it was tough back then. the main couple’s ship name was either peeniss or katpee. we really have it so much better these days. like with RatUrine

can't believe suzanne collins gave us two characters that barely had first names and only gave them one line - "cato kneels beside clove, spear in hand, begging her to stay with him. in a moment he will realize it's futile. she can't be saved." - and then the clato fandom just rolled with only that small crumb for the past decade and created 18 pages of fic on ao3 for them

the thing that gets me about the "must read 100 books a year Or Else" thing is that you just.... don't see it with any other hobby?
no one (as far as I know) is telling knitters "you have to knit 100 projects in a year, it doesn't matter if they turn out holey or misshapen or ugly, it matters that you made so many of them!" pretty sure no one is telling gamers "you have to play 100 games a year, doesn't matter if you really enjoy them or explore the worlds, what's important is that you finish them!"
So...why, and I say this as someone who's a fairly fast reader and has read a lot this year, are (terminally online) readers so obsessed with numbers? Is it because more books = more intelligent? Is it just Number Go Up mentality? I understand the thrill of wanting to beat your past self and read more books than the year before or whatever, but why do you expect to hold others to your standards??

I made some oatmeal cookies today, and during the "beat butter and sugar together until fluffy" step the hand mixer really wasn't cooperating. My hand mixer is probably at least ten years old, only works at low speed if you push down on the speed switch hard the whole time, and seems to resent everyone and everything, but usually works! This time it kept flinging bits of butter all over the kitchen. I thought I'd cleaned them all up until I took my phone out of my pocket and found out it was covered in butter because somehow the darn mixer flung butter into my pocket
The cookies turned out good though lol

i tried to make another recipe from the sonic cookbook for my lunch today . emphasis on tried because i thought i had more of the ingredients than i actually did and didn't realize how much i was missing until i had already started cooking and gotten excited to eat official vector the crocodile ramen so i just said fuck it we ball and hoped it turned out ok . what i did end up with was pretty good though even if its not exactly what the recipe was telling me to do

so i remembered the scene in book!thg where katniss observes cato's manic reaction to her blowing up the supplies and clove/marvel trying to point to the sky to suggest that the person that did it is most likely dead and try to calm him down... and now i'm just like thinking of a hilarious dynamic established between cato and clove where cato has his anger issues and clove has gotten to know him so thoroughly, having had to experience the arena with him as her ally/partner and being forced to spend several weeks together, that she becomes one of the few people that can use logic and rationality to appease him, and frequently uses these strategies. and he in turn encourages her sadistic side and allows her to give in to her own rage. they would have such a good push and pull dynamic, riling one another up but also bringing each other back down to earth.
