Her logistical skills are unmatched, and her leadership is helping to create a culture that promotes women in leadership roles. She is a trailblazer who is paving the way for other women to succeed in this male-dominated industry.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s national security adviser indicated that Israel could accept a U.S. plan for a revamped Palestinian Authority to govern the Gaza Strip after the war, a sign that the Israeli leader is easing his opposition to the idea.
Israel is aware of the desire of the international community and the countries of the region to integrate the Palestinian Authority the day after Hamas, and we make it clear that the matter will require a fundamental reform of the Palestinian Authority,” Tzachi Hanegbi, who heads Israel’s National Security Council, wrote in an opinion piece published Thursday on the Arabic-language news site Elaph.
"I'll agree to stop commiting genocide but only if you guys agree to my very specific conditions for the next leadership" is practically in the CIA handbook.
'destabilize a region then exploit the power vaccum and desperation it creates' is a play we've seen over and over again.
The question is why is Israel doing it?
Because it is a puppet state. It's serves the purpose of providing the USA someone to hide behind while they destabilize the region.
A puppet state, puppet régime, puppet government or dummy government is a state that is de jure independent but de facto completely dependent upon an outside power and subject to its orders.
Puppet states have nominal sovereignty, except that a foreign power effectively exercises control through economic or military support.
By leaving a local government in existence the outside power evades all responsibility, while at the same time successfully paralyzing the local government they tolerate.
"Why would the usa be using Israel to destabilize the middle east tho?"
An excellent question!
Short answer: using their own armies to carry out the plans is a surefire way to land themselves in a world war and so using Israel is an easy cop out.
The longer answer is very long.
So what "plans" are they trying to carry out, exactly, right?
Saving the Suez from "Islamist threats" "to secure freedom of navigation." You know, just like our Secretary of Defense said.
You know who else said that though? The plans outlined in Project 2025 by the Heritage Foundation. "The one that's gonna put queer people in detention centers?" Yeah that one. In fact our official are using a lot of the Same Exact Language and working found in Project2025.
Isn't that interesting?
Let's look at page 285, together.
Well, we've certainly seen headlines of this right? "Israel has a right to defend itself" and to take what it deems appropriate measures is how the USA has been avoiding calling Netanyahu a war criminal isn't it? A Google search will show Biden also has tried to block/stop Iran's nuclear development.
Very reassuring that they see the need for that for precaution, isn't it?
And sure maybe you could say this is a conspiracy theory, except US representatives are using the same EXACT language and Islamophobia to justify what's happening. Exhibit #1 the link to secretary of state, but don't worry. We're just warming up and he's not the only one.
Let's continue, we're almost to the part where it all comes together.
Translation: the Suez Canal brings Egypt billions of dollars a year and several parties (the countries listed) would prefer that money be funneled to them instead. The problem is that the aforementioned parties have been destabilizing the region for so long that establishing an alternate trade route through those territories would be seen as an act of aggression if not war.
The heritage foundation has always intended to call anyone who resists that plan a terrorist. Its their way of manufacturing consent to kill people.
And we can see Netanyahu and Biden both following that lead. "The terrorists are just such a giant threat, how could I possibly stop supporting Israel's fight against them?"

So isn't it just so crazy that the countries and regions outlined there (US, Israel, India, Egypt, and Gulf States) are ALSO the countries who presented the IMEC at the G20 summit in September, just a month before Israel started it's genocide?
Oh, you don't know what the IMEC is or why it matters?
Well remember the Suez and how much income it brings in? Yeah well it's also regulated by the state, which means it can't be bought or bribed the same way that a canal owned privately could.
Which means that Egypt is the sole benefactor and controls who else gets to benefit. This often does not include the USA.
The USA does not like that.
Enter: the IMEC.
The India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) is a rail and shipping corridor that aims to boost regional development and economic interconnectivity between India, the USA, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Israel and the European Union. The project consists of two corridors: the eastern corridor will connect India to the Arabian Gulf, and the northern corridor will connect the Gulf to Europe.
[..]Hence, there are technical limitations that the IMEC may face, not least in the Middle East due to its vast desert regions. The construction of railway lines and subsequent transportation of goods would be a difficult task requiring everything from the standardisation of the railway track gauges to the engine configurations. What’s more, one of the main link ports of the IMEC, Haifa, is in Israel, a country which is unstable at the moment due to the Palestinian freedom struggle.
It's how they intend to circumvent the Suez Canal entirely.
Unfortunately for them, Palestine exists. And as such, this creates a huge problem for them in building the IMEC through Palestine to Haifa. Especially since the resistance fighters through the entire middle east violently oppose the west's imperialism.
So something must be done. Again, we refer back to calling Anyone who questions Israel as an antisemitic terrorist as justification for killing Palestinians en masse. And for the ones they can't justify killing? Moving them.
Meaning that yeah. They planned for that, too.
And not even in secret.

What this suggests, as more of Project2025 comes true is that not only is the USA aiding and abetting this war to happen.
But that they are intentionally instigating and provoking action in the middle east.
They WANT headlines like this ⬇️ Because it sets up further justification and manufactured consent to continue their genocide in the name of money.
project2025 ALSO outlines every single group the USA sees as terrorists in the USA and also outlines how each country who provides them shelter should be stripped of aid.
They have already found and written excuses for the USA to get away with collective punishment across the whole middle east.
And finally.
The condition that I fully expect to be announced
For it to be defunded. And for more of an idea we can look to this Netanyahu quote from TheGuardian
Netanyahu also made clear he wanted Israel to retain overall security control after any conflict “with the ability to go in whenever we want in order to kill terrorists”.
“There will be no Hamas. There will be no civilian authority that educates their children to hate Israel, to kill Israelis, to destroy the state of Israel. There can’t be an authority there that pays the families of murderers. There needs to be something else there,” he said.
Another puppet government that'll agree to do whatever Israel (and the USA) says, perhaps?

Black Girl Magic means many different things to many different people, but maybe we can simply define it as the resolve of Black women and girls to triumph in the face of structural oppression. These three words are a celebration of the resilience, strength, and beauty of Black girls and women, who have overcome countless obstacles and continue to inspire and uplift others. As a society, we need to acknowledge and celebrate the power and potential of Black girls, and recognize the vital role they play in shaping our future. Black women and girls are the backbone of their communities, often taking on roles of leadership and responsibility from a young age. Unapologetic in their pursuit of their dreams and refusing to be held back by societal expectations — Black (women and) girls are trailblazers, creating their own paths and shattering stereotypes along the way. Simply put BLACK GIRLS ARE MAGICAL.
Now let’s get one thing straight “magic” is not to say that Black women are mythical or superhuman. This magic is a very different: magic in realness, in love, and the way we rally around one another in the face of institutional oppression. This magic is not sorcery or the supernatural, but what Black women can achieve each and every day as a million little revolutions, and a million little acts of defiance, that say you belong here. It is magic against the very real injustices faced every day: survival; more likely to be killed at almost three times the rate of white women, yet without headlines appealing for change. More likely to die giving birth, and the most suspended of any student group in the USA. And suspended for what? For how they wear their hair, for how they dress, by asking questions. Even in the workplace, there is both antiblackness and sexism to navigate: misogynoir.
Despite these challenges, #BlackGirlMagic is conjured each and every day in a million different ways: through hair, writing, painting, poetry, dance, performance, fashion and dress, culture and history, music, and even speech. The Black experience is often narrated as a struggle, Black Girl Magic challenges that by exploring the joy, amplifying these voices and stories, and changing the narrative.

Matthew on the Cam & Strick Podcast
A few things he said
He loves being in Florida & it was his preference out of all the places to go when the trade was going down.
Recapped the trade & how he found out about Johnny Gaudreau's trade just as he got back from his family vacation in Greece.
He gave big praise to brother Brady (unsurprisingly) & his sister for her skills too. He talked and he & Brady got recognised when out in a bar when visiting their sister recently.
He praised Barkov's talent & ability bigtime, his close friend Robert Thomas came in for huge praise as well & he was high on Brandon Montour when he was mentioned by the hosts they interviewed him recently.
His two dreams are to win the Stanley Cup & play with Brady for USA & win Gold together.
If he and Brady were ever to play together it would have to be for team USA or if Brady ever came to Florida because he's not going up there! (to Ottawa) but Brady's a few years from making any decisions about any move but Brady's like a god up there on Ottawa & he (Brady)loves it there.
He said It's sad & a big shame so many of top players haven't played in world cups or Olympics due to lack of opportunities & hopes to be able play in a few in his career.
He's not got his winter clothes from Calgary anymore.
He's looking forward to returning to Calgary when the schedule gives him three days there this next year in January to visit his favourite places for coffee & show off his favourite restaurants.
He's returning to Florida on Friday but he's not driving all that way he's having his car shipped back to Florida.
Big praise for Bill Zito & giving his players everything they need to succeed & for Paul Maurice for helping him become so much a better player & giving him his trust which means a lot to him.
He loves hosting his family & friends at his Florida home.
He tried to not to overstep when he first arrived last year & go with the flow as the new guy but his team mates pushed him to be in a leadership role right away.
Praised everyone, team mates & everyone for helping him settle in so well & feels he's known everyone for 20 years. He's so comfortable in Florida & says he met everyone gradually as they came back in small groups a couple at a time.
He recapped the playoffs and talk about the belief in the room even when they were down v Boston.
He talked about how bad his feet were hurting after the 4x overtime win over Carolina in the playoffs.
Lots of praise for his teammates talking about being surrounding by so much talent in Florida.
He watches practically every game of Brady's, he loves to watch the big games and likes to study certain players mentioning Kucherov.
He's learned he needs to be on the ice & is more valuable on the ice than off & feels he's evolved as a player.
This summer he's worked on PT & Strength & Conditioning & done way more cardio than ever before after recovering after his injury.
He says he's back to 100%
He went to 4 weddings in the off season he was invited to 6 but couldn't go to them all some overlapped with things he had to do.
Talked about the videos of Brady signing Mr Brightside shirtless and the videos that were sneakily taken going viral on SM. Says it's not a true reflection on Brady.
Mentions Brady got more attention than him in the playoffs at Calgary & his dad did last time round!
Talked about his dads 'soft' comments he was more bothered by the timing & being more bothered by how his team were playing at such a vital time with the playoffs on the line. He wasn't upset with his dad & he didn't get a bad reaction from his team. Admits his father was probably right though.
When he got hurt he thought he done his collarbone at first, he stiffened up when being forced to go through concussion protocol. The ovation he got when he came back on the ice, he thought was amazing & meant a lot to him & expresses his appreciation for that.
After the game with his injury he couldn't even wash his body, next day he texted his brother to get him out of bed he was the only one he had at his house at that moment, he even couldn't lift his head due to the pain.
After the game despite the injury. He drove himself home with his sling on! Admitting he knows he probably shouldn't have!!
It was Teddy the head of equipment guy that tied his laces for him ahead of the game he tried to play.
He talked about the Jonathan Quick incident that led to his 2 game suspension refuses to make excuses for his actions but admitted he gets pissed off about goalies bumping into players then losing their minds when players do it back to them. But chalked it up to frustration that boiled over at the end of the game.
His favourite thing to do off ice is play golf & anything he can do that involves being outside he loves & in Calgary he couldn't do anything!
The Elbow Room club also got quite a few mentions, he likes to go out to eat & mentions water skiing but he's still not a boat guy.
Says he used to hate going to the beach when he was younger but now he loves it.

Emesis Blue Soldier’s Nightmare
So I’ve theorized that Emesis Blue was a shared nightmare, but I’ve neglected to talk about poor Solly in detail until now. I’ve mentioned what I think his nightmare was about, but not with evidence and important details.
TW: Angst, death, Soldier’s hypothetical trauma. [War is Hell for a reason]
So here’s what I think Soldier was afraid of, and why.
#1: Bad leadership
Unlike our boy RED Soldier, who was never allowed to join the military, BLU served in WWII. He’s an actual veteran that served in the army, not the Navy.
The American army that stormed Omaha beach had to make their way across Europe, and trench warfare was employed.
So we know Solly wasn’t lying/implanted with a false memory about military service.
That being said, a soldier is right to be afraid of bad leadership. If you have someone who cares more about the end goal than the men under him, or is too incompetent to come up with a good strategy, soldiers die. More than needed to, and the worst is when the leader is convinced he’s smarter than the people who have to follow his command.
He got chewed out in the sewer via grown man tantrum and blamed for literally everything that went wrong to that point. Even though Spy is arguably the one at fault for 85% of the bad plays.
And every time Solly does something really competent, that should show Spy that he’s a valuable, loyal teammate? It doesn’t matter. It falls on deaf ears and he’s still considered stupid, useless, and cowardly.
It never mattered how well Soldier did, Spy wasn’t going to respect it. And you never want a person like that leading other people to their deaths.
That being said, if Spy is afraid of becoming the worst version of himself like I theorize, then that would mean he was left open to serving the role of bad leader in Solly’s nightmare. They amplified each others fears and didn’t know it.
#2: America was never “the good guy”
The Tf2 comic takes place in 1972, and I place the shared nightmare after the unknown resolution to the 7th issue. That means the Vietnam war is still going on and being televised.
WWII was an anomaly of a war: there was a clear good side and bad side. In a lot of conflicts, both sides do terrible things at a pretty much equal rate, and the whole thing started over power or land disputes. WWII Germany was an anomaly in that it was clearly an evil power, and everyone could root for the other side.
And then it was followed up by the Cold War, and smaller proxy wars like Vietnam. It was televised, and the people of the USA saw in real time that the government was lying to them, that they weren’t “the good guys”. The grisly footage did not add up with the lies spread by the US government. The American soldiers of that war returned defeated and hated by their own civilian population.
It’s three years before the end of the war. BLU Scout may well have joined the mercenary team to avoid service in Vietnam instead of going to Canada.
Maybe Soldier didn’t feel ready to hang up his helmet, and wanted to at least know what he was getting himself into. BLU and RED don’t pretend to be fighting for a good cause, you get money for fighting some other guys so you can respawn and do it all over again.
It’s better to use a rocket launcher on a random RED merc who’ll be alive in an hour than to do what the American army was commanded to do in Vietnam. To civilians. Which was then televised and wised up the public about the truth. To this day, Americans don’t trust the government like they did pre-Cold War. You’re telling me Soldier wasn’t one of them?
Solly is a WWII veteran. He’s pretty likely to try to keep up with what’s happening in the Cold War. Watching that footage made him doubt that America was ever “the good guy”. That he and his fallen friends were ever really heroes.
This other soldier could be one of the fallen WWII friends from Doe’s Platoon, but I thought of another possibility. He’s a German soldier that our guy killed, wearing the American uniform. Because that death would be permanent, and if America was never really good, they’d have a lot more in common than Solly used to think.
Either explanation would explain why Jane keeps freezing up every time he sees the guy. But the fact that he befriended an enemy Demoman and the elongated Scout situation could both give credit to the German theory.
Demoman represented the fact that sometimes the enemy is not really an enemy, and you could have been friends under different circumstances. Elongated Scout represented the fact that war is kill or be killed, and sometimes you have to trade an enemy’s life for your own. Even if you really don’t want to. Everything was warped and staticky when the Elongated Scout was alive and chasing Soldier, and went clear again the second he was gone.
He also died twice to head wounds. The other soldier in American uniform had empty bleeding eye sockets. Soldier might have shot the German in both of his eyes during the war, and now he can’t forget the man’s face. Because at the end of the day, that guy was still a person, and they might have even gotten along if they’d been on the same side.

#3: Russian Red Army
Stalingrad coming back over and over, scarier and colder each time could be the manifestation of Soldier’s feelings about Russians. In WWII, they were allies and in the Cold War both countries were using bloody proxy wars to try and avoid the nuclear option. But the Red army was brutal, and Soldier would know that from his time on the warfront.
The Germans tried to push their way into Russia to conquer it, committing unspeakable crimes on the way. The Red army pushed back and committed revenge crimes on their way to take Berlin. You can see why an American would be scared of what Russians are capable of.
That’s why by the end of the movie, Stalingrad is burnt and still trying to get revenge on Soldier. RED Heavy is anti-communist, but we have no idea what BLU Heavy believes. If he is a pro-Russia Communist, it would explain why Spy and Soldier planted him as a traitor in the early scenes of Emesis.
I think Soldier knowing firsthand how the Russian troops act would explain why he distrusts them while still questioning America’s honor. He got to see more of them because they weren’t shooting at each other during his war, unlike the German soldiers he had to kill. I think he also knows why America was the country that German POWs wanted to be sent to, and Russia was the absolute worst option for them.

Hi ms-demeanor, I've been following you for a long time! This may be oversharing, but as someone who has recently gotten an RD license, I do not think the amount of work that went into the degree + volunteering/leadership/clubs (to get the internship) + $ you pay for internship is worth the end salary. If you scroll through r/dietetics on Reddit you'll see this is a fairly common opinion in the USA (especially with the new Masters requirement) and Canada. Just wanted to warn you that most of my colleagues (many who also chose dietetics as a 2nd degree) regretted not going into nursing/ physician assistant/ coding roles for better pay with similar amounts of effort.
If you're choosing this path for other reasons and you know it's for you, then go for it and I am happy you are pursuing something you like! But if someone had told me these things 6 years ago, I would be in a different career right now XD. Whichever way you choose, I sincerely hope it works out for you.
So I did actually scroll those subs back in February when I was running into a wall with applications and it was part of what made me absolutely certain that I wasn't going to take out private school or out of state loans to pursue this degree.
I saw a lot of what you're saying: people unsatisfied with the career options, people unsatisfied with the pay, a really competitive environment that was exhausting and expensive (the encouragement to volunteer in nutrition fields to apply for the internship was particularly upsetting; you've got to provide unpaid labor in your free time to apply to provide unpaid labor full time in order to get a job that doesn't actually pay that much? Fuck that. That sounds like bullshit. I'd do it, probably, but that's fucked). I think I've still got enough genuine interest in the subject to apply if there are local schools accepting apps in the fall, but I've heard enough that I'm not going to chase it if that door is closed.
Like this is something I've been kicking around in my head for about ten years because of how difficult it has been to live with a severely restricted diet and how much I would like to help other people in the same boat, so I do have more of an interest in nutrition than in nursing for nursing's sake.
But becoming a nurse practitioner is something that I've also been kicking around in my head for a couple of years because that does open up routes to being a specific type of care provider that interests me.

I'm not sure what prompted this but thank you for the ask, nonnie! The easy answer is that I'm Swedish & it's in the DNA of Swedes & Danes to hate one another. There, ask answered!
Okay, no, to be serious. There is this joke amongst the Nordic countries (Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Åland, Iceland, Faroe Islands & Greenland) that Denmark is the USA of the Nordics & among the Scandinavian royals (Sweden, Norway & Denmark), the Danish have always been my least favourites. I'll post a deeper discussion around my thoughts under the cut & people; remember that these are my personal opinions. I'm not talking facts or trying to be objective here.
Not just the fact that they've done some questionable things (the same could be said for many of the European royals), but it has always struck me weird how borderline worshipped the Danish royals are - especially Margrethe & Mary. It reminds me a bit of the stan culture around some singers & bands where the fans don't simply like the person; they adore them & to the level where you're not even allowed to criticise the person. Then we have Margrethe's approval rating - in a democratic country (Denmark) & its territories (Greenland & Faroe Islands), there is no way someone can continuously have around 80% or higher approval rating.
Up to 2022, I didn't necessarily dislike them & I had no personal issue with Margrethe. The Danish royals weren't my cup of tea, but I found Margrethe very cool as a person & I still do to some extent. There was this public narrative of Frederik, the golden boy, Mary, who could do nothing wrong & Joachim having difficulty finding his role & purpose in the family. As someone who has grown up with Nordic tabloid culture, I assumed it was a Victoria vs. Madeleine situation where the tabloids make a hen out of a feather & try to create drama where there is none. Then that statement around the titles of Joachim's children was published & all the puzzle pieces came together for me...
Now I've seen a lot of people here on Tumblr point towards Nikolai & claim it's all his fault. But that guy has been working as a model under the name of Prince Nikolai since at least 2018. Maybe even earlier, I can't remember. But anyway, the only time his grandma told him off was when he was doing ad work for some car brand & used his royal title. If his modelling career was the problem, Margrethe would have done something years ago & not suddenly, out of the blue, make a decision in autumn 2022.
No, for me, the puzzle pieces all fell together. Joachim struggling to find his place within the Royal House & no one really helping him carve out a position for himself; it being public knowledge that Margrethe favoured his first wife; Marie saying that it wasn't her or Joachim's choice to move to Paris & they weren't happy about it; Marie being painted as the bitter step-mother who wouldn't allow Nikolai & Felix to be with their father & instead, they were kept close to their grandmother; & yeah, the car crash that was Margrethe stripping Joachim's children of their titles a.k.a. she legally changed her grandchildren's names behind their backs without talking to them about it. These are just some instances from the last couple of years that were at the top of my mind.
I've mentioned it in messages to @cambridgemadness @lizisanamimal & @world-of-wales (maybe other people as well, sorry if I forgot to mention you), but to me, it feels very much like Margrethe favouring one son over the other & also doing everything she can to coddle him. It's not just the Nordic tabloids pitting family members against one another. It's very much based on Margrethe's behaviour & her leadership.

The perception that capitalism is ill-equipped to address climate change arises from the fact that majority of businesses focus on a short-term profit orientation, which often leads them to prioritize immediate financial gains over long-term sustainability. This can result in environmentally harmful practices, such as over-exploitation of resources and inadequate investments in cleaner technologies. Now this behavior isn't exclusive to the environment, we see it in a lot of aspects such as the classic, a large percentage of people said they would pay more for a local business or USA-made product than one made by China or a large business," yet in practice a very small percentage of people choose the more expensive locally made products over the cheaper alternatives. This effect is what leads to most businesses focusing on a price-leadership model. This is why you see a very large disparity between Capitalist nations success of environmental preservation because societies have varying beliefs and priorities.
TL;DR -> Most consumers prioritize other things over preserving the environment, which leads to producers to prioritize other things over preserving the environment. This is what Adam Smith commonly referred to as the "Invisible Hand".

No, homeless people do not die nor deserve to die because they can't figure out how to "do capitalism properly." Homelessness is a complex social issue with various contributing factors, and it is not solely a result of an individual's inability to participate in a capitalist system. While economic factors play a role in homelessness, it is important to recognize that homelessness is a systemic problem that requires comprehensive solutions, including social services, affordable housing, mental health support, and addiction treatment. It is not appropriate or accurate to attribute homelessness to an individual's inability to navigate the capitalist system. Instead, addressing homelessness requires a broader societal commitment to providing support and resources to those in need.

Angela Bassett earned an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role as a devoted mother in the sequel “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” So I couldn’t help but wonder while watching “Dune: Part Two” whether Rebecca Ferguson could follow a similar trajectory to awards glory.
The two roles are similar in that both women play mothers whose life partners are killed and whose children carry great power. Of course, beyond that there are significant differences. Bassett’s Queen Ramonda is thrust into leadership reluctantly after the deaths of her husband and son. Ferguson’s Lady Jessica, on the contrary, actively seeks power for herself and her child Paul (Timothee Chalamet), preying on people’s faith and fear in order to fulfill a prophecy.
But both actresses give standout performances among their films’ ensemble casts. Bassett lends emotional depth and raises the stakes of what might have been a conventional superhero sequel. Ferguson deepens her film’s narrative in a different way. We recognize her love for her son and unborn daughter, but there are subtle shades of Lady Macbeth underneath; her pure love for her family is twisted by a thirst for power. It’s through her unsettling performance that the film comments on the dangers of religious fanaticism and begins to suggest that Paul’s rise might not be as heroic as we’re first led to believe.
Clarisse Loughrey (The Independent) writes of the performances that “Chalamet and Ferguson take all that was regal and dignified about their performances, and apply to them a poisoned tip.” Brian Truitt (USA Today) adds that “Ferguson’s Lady Jessica rises to become a gripping ‘Dune’ persona, who goes from being extremely dry in the first film to an intriguingly determined figure.” Brian Tallerico (RogerEbert.com) argues that her “slippery performance” adds “flavors here that weren’t in the first outing.”
Ferguson’s career has been building for more than a decade now. She earned a Golden Globe nom for her breakthrough performance in the 2013 TV limited series “The White Queen.” A couple of years later she got a Critics Choice bid for Best Actress in an Action Movie for “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation” (2015). She also received a smattering of awards attention for her role in the “Shining” sequel “Doctor Sleep” (2019) and made additional appearances in awards contenders like “Florence Foster Jenkins” (2016), “The Girl on the Train” (2016) and “The Greatest Showman” (2017), but she has yet to be nominated by a major industry peer group like SAG, Emmy, BAFTA or Oscar.
The question, of course, is whether Ferguson can survive the gauntlet of the rest of the 2024-2025 awards season, which to be honest hasn’t even really begun yet and won’t get into high gear until this summer and fall’s festivals. Still, we’ve seen early releases survive the long haul of an Oscars campaign like “Black Panther,” “Everything Everywhere All at Once” and “Past Lives.” And the Oscar success of the first “Dune” film (six wins out of 10 nominations) indicates that awards voters will surely have this sequel on their radars. Will Ferguson also garner attention for her chilling performance?

What do you think of Joyofsatan.org? They claim to follow the Sumerian God Enki-Satan, they’re pro-choice, they follow gay Pagan Gods and they’re the largest Satanist group in the world.
MOST of the groups who use the 'satanist' label don't actually worship satan or really any deity.
They are usually created with the idea of an eye-catching slogan or name that directly opposes the stances of the puritanical Christian (evangelical) majority in the USA. It's not meant to be about religion, it's meant to be an obvious mockery of the role religion plays in US politics despite the fact that it's not supposed to (separation of church and state n all that). The other popular organization - Church of Satan, which is based on LaVeyan Satanism, basically functions like this and are very outspoken about the fact that they don't worship anything at all, and are very open about being simply a group of 'skeptical atheists' who use their numbers to bring into question Christianity's ability to influence politics.
That being said... The organization you are currently speaking of, just from a cursory search, is not at all like this. Aside from being an esoteric occult organization that leans the way of conspiracy theories, they've previously been reported to be anti-Semitic and have had ties within their leadership to the NeoNazi movement, which should immediately be a huge red flag. Whatever it is trying to be, it feels to me like they are largely swinging a lot closer to the Evangelical side of things - just with a different flavor - than they are to actual satanism.
I am also skeptical about them claiming to be 'the largest Satanism group in the world'. It's likely that they have more PR, but I would like to see numerical evidence that they're really as popular as they are.

Daily reminder that the anti-abortion position will never be a feminist, left-wing or progressive position, and the pathological need of pro-lifers to tokenize minorities and certain experiences that we have needs to be studied.
First off, I find it very funny that an organization known for having its white members engage in physical violence, trespassing and digging in the trash for fetal remains is now trying to lecture black women about intersectionality with regard to pregnancy and childbirth.
Reproductive justice is both a term and an ideology that black women specifically came up with in order to acknowledge how race and economic class play a role in reproductive access and decisions. The fact that an organization run and represented by white people pretending to be progressive is trying to check the women who came up with an actual progressive framework of beliefs to better represent their own interests is hilarious to me.
Second, PAAU is not a progressive organization. Its founder, Terrisa Bukovinac, is on the board of the Leadership Institute, a politically conservative training organization, and has gone to events hosted by the Heritage Foundation - a right-wing conservative think tank helping to drive anti-abortion legislation around the country by supporting conservative Republican politicians in various ways.
You even have members of this organization like @secularprolifeconspectus on Tumblr who will do interviews with people like Sebastian Gorka, who has had ties to the Order of Vitéz - a Hungarian order of merit which allied itself with Nazis during WWII.
(BTW, the IRONY of spending time talking about how Planned Parenthood is rooted in eugenics while talking about how conservatives are so much nicer than leftists to someone who has ties to a Nazi-sympathizing organization. Ma'am... 😬)
Then again, @secularprolifeconspectus also likes to spread lies like Abortion Pill Reversal™️, which isn't real, and repeats quotes from Abby Johnson, the famous anti-abortion activist who had two abortions and said that the police would be smart to racially profile her black sons in the wake of the Black Lives Matter Protests of 2020 following George Floyd's murder. 🙃
@secularprolifeconspectus has me blocked, but I'll just say this.
The irony of pretending to care about the interests of black people while rubbing shoulders with far-right political figures and reposting words from racist white women but also being confused as to why leftists don't like you is very telling.
Third, the information posted is wrong. It's very convenient that PAAU is "worried" about maternal morality in the DMV area when the U.S. states with the highest maternal mortality rates are Mississippi, Louisiana, Georgia, Alabama and North Carolina (CDC, 2023) - states with higher concentrations of black people that are also dominated by white, conservative political leadership which puts anti-abortion legislation in place. The DMV area is actually lower in comparison to these places, yet PAAU conveniently ignores that im order to paint a false narrative.

Fourth, I also find it very funny that "progressive" pro-lifers have the audacity to accuse organizations run by minorities of hijacking progressive principles when that's all pro-lifers do by...
Using terms like "Abortion Industrial Complex" after anti-war advocates have been discussing the Military Industrial Complex for years
Acknowledging how finances and money plays a role in people choosing to get abortions but only every criticizing pro-choicers for supporting abortion access (*and conveniently never holding the very conservative anti-abortion movement accountable for the policy-making role they play in making people not want to have children in the first place)
Saying that abortion access is a part of Big Pharma, when forcing women to have children they don't want literally creates another patient pool for Big Pharma to subsist off of
Arguing that affordable healthcare, housing and clean water and nutrition - things that pro-choice activists have spent years advocated for (*and that conservative pro-lifers have spent years voting against), somehow cannot co-exist with abortion access
So yeah, removing abortion access from people who want it will never be progressive, and the fact that pro-lifers still try to tokenize minorities (and chastise us when we don't support their worldview) shows how little they actually care about those of us people of color.

In the top five papers in the U.S. by circulation — The New York Times, USA Today, the Los Angeles Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post – only 7 out of 20 print articles on the speaker’s race between October 12 through 17, or 35%, mentioned Jordan’s role in Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election. None of the articles connected Jordan’s demand that Congress refuse to certify Biden’s 2020 victory to Jordan’s new potential leadership role heading into the 2024 presidential election.
The Wall Street Journal mentioned Trump’s endorsement of Jordan in a 1,800-plus-word article on the speaker fight, but it failed to mention Jordan’s involvement in the attempts to overturn the 2020 election. The article instead refers to Jordan as a “Freedom Caucus co-founder and longtime right-wing bomb-thrower whom former Speaker John Boehner once called a ‘legislative terrorist.’”
An article published by The Washington Post ignored Jordan’s allyship with Trump and involvement in attempts to overturn the 2020 election, identifying him merely as a “hard-right Freedom Caucus founder.” The article asked if Democrats might “be willing to stomach a pretty conservative Republican speaker” but did not go into detail about Jordan’s history with election denialism.

Sci-Fi Saturday: Deluge

Rationale for Inclusion:
Not all disaster movies fall under the genre of science fiction or speculative fiction. What causes the disaster and/or its results are what determines the classification.
Deluge (Dir. Felix E. Feist, 1933, USA) came to my attention either from browsing the Wikipedia list of 1930s sci-fi films or Kino Lorber's website. The film was regarded as lost for decades, but promised apocalyptic natural disasters and the survivors needing to rebuild society. We had yet to encounter the post-apocalyptic subgenre on our survey and figured it would be interesting to compare to later examples. Plus, neither my partner nor I had known Deluge existed, much less seen it, prior to this survey.
Reactions:
As one would hope with a disaster movie, Deluge has respectable special effects for its era. Stop motion, models and superimpositions render the epic storm, eclipse, earthquakes and tsunamis that absolutely wreck the world. No explanation is provided for the extreme weather and geographical upsets, in part because it comes on so quickly no one can gather sufficient data to form a hypothesis, and in part because it does not matter to the overall narrative. The natural disasters are just set up for a post-apocalyptic survival narrative.
Despite its spectacular opening, Deluge goes downhill as a film rapidly. The cinematography and acting are just okay. The concerns of survival in the new wrecked landscape become the main focus, and in the process the film ends up treating some gross attitudes about gender as matters of nature not socialization. Some amount of sexism is bound to be present in most films, even if it's implicit systematic context that doesn't even register to the target audience, but Deluge had examples that deeply bothered me and my partner.
Typical of post-apocalyptic narratives, a gang of roving rapist men assemble and become a threat to other survivors, including the newly formed town the protagonists end up in. Do the townspeople band together, kill the rapists, and then post their corpses with expository signs around the borders of their new community as a warning to others? No, because the film does not treat these men as outliers and societal threats beyond reform, but the expected result of men not being constrained by law or social pressure.
The newly formed community takes for granted that they cannot stop men from devolving to rapists, so instead of direct action against the rapists, the men who have assumed leadership roles decide that every woman must be married to a man. I do not know if the logic is that rapists supposedly do not rape women that belong to a man, or that wives cannot be raped by anyone, or that the husbands will defend against the rapists as necessary. However, their logic boils down to the only way to protect women from feral men is to have them become subjugated by civilized men; it's not to eliminate the threat or hold people who break community expectations accountable for their actions, but affirm the same position held by the rapists that women are commodities and resources, and treat them as they would storehouses of grain.
As repugnant as I find Deluge being explicit in its belief that Patriarchal values are unquestionable, universal laws, it is hard to truly find fault with the survivors clinging to what bits of the world they knew that remain. For all protagonist Martin Webster (Sidney Blackmer) has to say about rebuilding society better than it was, he and the other civilized men hope to rebuild society along the same lines as prior to the apocalypse. It's why Patriarchy and monogamy are clung to so tightly by the main characters. Yes, Martin and his wife Helen (Lois Wilson) could build a polycule with the new romantic interests they met when they thought the other was dead, but no one involved can see the viability or appeal in it. Frankly, if anyone suggested it they would view that person as morally on par with the roving rapists. Humans, after all, are creatures of habit despite existence being nothing but change.
As someone who finds Patriarchy limiting and damaging, and generally is not a fan of disaster movies, Deluge is not a film that I enjoyed. It's an interesting case study, but it failed to spark positive impressions or a desire to watch it again.
